Naxi ancient music, derived from the Han Chinese Dongjing and Huangjing music, is said to be music from the Song Dynasty. Originating in the 14th century, this ancient music is one of the oldest in China and perhaps the world. Composed of Baishaxi music, Dongjing music, and Huangjing music (the latter is now lost), it incorporates elements of Taoist ritual music, Confucian ceremonial music, and even the ci and qupai music of the Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties, resulting in a unique charm and earning it the reputation of a "musical fossil."
