This is a nice small city zoo that I believe was opened in 1966. It has new giraffe exhibit and many of the other exhibits are been modernized. It has a very good education program also.

Took my grandsons to the zoo, they had an absolute blast. Very easy to navigate around, the zoo also seems to cater to the younger children. They were able to see the animals ride the train, feed the animals, there is a deck that they went and fed fish. Just to much to remember it all. We has a blast and will be returning regularly. Very well maintained, always doing improvements.

This zoo is not very large, but large enough to enjoy. There is a good selection of animals to see and well laid out. It has a nice lake you can sit by. If you are from out of town, you can get a buy on get one free coupon. When we went it was just $8 /per person. Using the coupon made it $8 for the two of us!

I grew up in Fort Worth and they do have a great Zoo, but it's expensive, and long. At the Abilene Zoo, a family of four can get in for less than $25. You can pack lunches, bring in a pizza, whatever. They have a covered eating area for people who aren't in birthday parties, etc. (There is of course an area for them). It's not so big that halfway through you're tired and the kids are starting to get cranky from exhaustion. If it's hot, slip inside to look at birds, fish, snakes, etc. It's not very expensive to hand feed the giraffes and you can feed the large fish (koi?) and ducks at a little dock that goes about 15 feet over the really large pond at Nelson park for less than a dollar. Staff is friendly and Zoo membership is worth the $$ if you have small ones that need a regular outing that won't break your wallet.. I think $70 gets you a year family membership for 6 people and includes 6 guest tickets per year. Also has a train that goes through the zoo that is reasonably priced for young children. Next to the Zoo is Nelson Park and the Splash Pad - a small out door water "park" that is free and a great way to cool off in the summer.

A great zoo that appreciates the community and military. Love the new updates they have provided over the years. The best is the giraffe enclosure where you can feed them lettuce from a balcony. Great reptile space to get away from the heat and be indoors. Very nice place to bring your kids and the whole family will enjoy.

I have gone to this zoo since I was a little girl. They have added a lot in the last few years and it is a wonderful zoo to spend the afternoon. I can't wait to take nieces and nephews here someday! We went once when the lion was roaring and it just gave me chills! It was like you could feel it before you could hear it when he started a new roar.

The Abilene Zoological Society is VERY active in acquiring members and keeping those they have. Our children and now grandchildren were and are frequent visitors, when they are back in town. Only one of our 3 children and 1 of 5 grandchildren still live in the area. The exhibits have been recently renovated on MANY of the animal enclosures, and there are new animals that have been added too, along with a new facility for the giraffes. Your kids will LOVE this zoo. The next closest to the area is 130+ miles away, and much larger in Fort Worth, TX, but this is a GREAT smaller zoo. They have also just added a new "zoo train" that trails through the zoo without the necessity of tracks to follow.

I hadn't been to the zoo in several years. Was pleasantly surprised at how much nicer it is now. Very nice giraffe display, but the over-head observation deck was closed. That was disappointing.
We decided when we got to the carousel that we wanted a ride, but were told that we'd have to go all the way back to the entrance to purchase a token. Inconvenient to not be able to purchase a token at the ride.
I'd definitely go back again when I have more time to spend there.

Very clean and neat, people were nice and knowledgeable. We had a great day, we will be back for sure.

You dont normally expect to see a zoo in a town the size 8f Abilene but they have a very good one and the entrance price is very cheap for the experience.

I came here about two years ago and went again this past week and wow, the renovation is fantastic! Before you could feed giraffes from a bridge, now they have a deck you can walk on and the giraffe's heads are about chest height for adults. You can purchase several large lettuce leaves for $4, I believe it MAY be cash only, but don't quote me on it!
They have some wonderful animals like a white tiger, fantastic birds, and a wide variety of common zoo animals. It's well laid out so you can follow one path to see the whole zoo, or you can wind around paths and see the animals in whatever order you'd like.
Ticket prices are fair and the gift shop is nice.
And for all of the Pokemon catchers or those who have kiddos who play Pokemon, there's a lot of pokestops around the zoo. They even did a promotion where they sold team t-shirts and set up lures all around the park.
Lastly, in the summer, they're open late on Thursday evenings! Whoever, the giraffe feeding closes before the park does, so check hours before you go!

This zoo was ok with the main highlight being the giraffe enclosure. You can feed lettuce to the giraffes which the kids loved. However, if you have been to any big city zoo, this will seem lame in comparison.

We had so much fun, it's a small zoo but we loved it. My son loved feeding the giraffes and the fish. He also loved riding the little train. The kids also loved the splash pad and play ground next door. We went on a Tuesday and it wasn't very busy at all. Great place to have a picnic!

We try to go to zoo's if we're within drive time to get there. Well we drove from Fort Worth where we were staying for our vacation and found this zoo was just average. The zoo is very confusing to get around to see the exhibits and they removed most of the animals due to temperatures. The day we visited it was 76 degrees so it's odd to me that the animals were gone. I was so happy that I had a buy 1 get 1 free coupon because $4 is abouts all it's worth. There is a little train option you can pay $3 for each adult but this is something you would do if you had small children with you. Super glad I didn't take the girl at the ticket window sales pitch.

As Zoos go, this one is great. Lots of room for everyone to view the attractions. Cute train ride for kids. Great new "feed the giraffes" exhibit. Beautiful gardens. Tropicals. Just wish they'd feed animals before the zoo opens cuz the animals disappear. So go a little later in the day. We were there at opening and watching lions. Then the feeders came and that was that.

We love our local zoo! So many animals ! Sadly lately every time we go exhibits are closed or under remodel. We love feeding the fish! The fish food has been unavailable the last four times we went. Boo at the zoo and Christmas as the Zoo are a family tradition in our family now. Staff is always very nice and welcoming ! We seem to always miss the feedings but this Zoo is perfect for little ones! Not too big

Loved this zoo. We really enjoyed our visit. Was a nice walk, wasn't a bunch of hills. My husband is in a wheelchair and he did fine getting around. A good mix of outside and inside exhibits

Fun and relaxing to see all the animals. We loved the Giraffes so much. Fun interaction with them as well. Was not crowded at all by going on a week day.

This little zoo is peaceful and uncrowded. Good price. It has a cute little train for the kids. It is by a nice little lake where you can feed the fish. It is designed well so you see all the animals without walking long distances. There is a new geraffe exibit. It is one of my favorite places to go and relax with friends in Abeline.

I have been to several zoos and Abilene’s is the perfect size with so many wonderful animals. I have teenagers, who still enjoy the zoo, but we take younger cousins to the zoo when they come to visit. It isn’t too big that the 2, 3, 4, and 5 year olds get bored or tired. The way zoo guests can interact with the giraffes by feeding them is so much fun. The enclosures for the animals are just beautiful with improvements being made all the time. Our family highly recommend this zoo for people in Abilene and those visiting our city.

Just took the grandkids to the zoo and was impressed with the size when you have little ones. It wasn't so large that you missed anything and yet large enough for them to feel like they saw it all. The prices are reasonable and highly recommend the $4 rental for a pull wagon for the kids. It's also great because you can bring your own snacks and drinks with you. As for the actual animal enclosures - it was fair. I've seen some terrific zoos and this one didn't have much to offer, like enclosures that were close to natural surroundings. Felt bad for the one rhino just in it's area all alone. Enjoyed feeding the giraffes though! One thing that is poorly labeled is the fish and turtle building - something about a backyard. We had no idea what it was until we peeked in to see. Very poor signage!

the Zoo was great it is one of my favorite zoos in Texas everyone are very friendly. the animals are well taken car of.

Even though it's not a very large zoo there still was a good variety of animals. Make sure to stop by and feed the giraffes.

Took our grandson who is four. We had a great time, very interesting place. Staff was informative and just plain great. Answered every question we asked. Giraffes really got to our grandson, he loved them. All other animals and birds were fun too and healthy. Spent two hours there and our grandson and us had a very fun day. Next time we come Abilene we will surely return to the Zoo.

3yr old loves riding the train and feeding the giraffes. The whole family had a ball! We had lunch at the zoo snack shop. Hotdogs chips, hamburgers and drinks. Lots of fun.

The Abilene zoo was a nice zoo to visit. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to walk through. There were some animals not on display because it is winter and the giraffe exhibit was closed for renovation so we were bummed about that. But overall it was fun and clean. I would recommend going to the zoo, especially if you have kids.

We love taking our grandkids to the zoo. They have updated every time we go and the children love to feed and watch the animals interact.

We visited this zoo while we were on a road trip through Texas. We had planned to visit the zoo before we started our trip. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities and the variety of the animals there. My nieces (8 and 5 years old) loved it - especially the giraffe exhibit. For $4 each, they'll let you feed them. We had a great time.

For a town the size of Abilene this is an impressive zoo. The new giraffe exhibition that will open soon looks like it's going to be really good. The only thing missing? Well about 25 years ago they had seals that were a hoot and I miss that. I'm

For a small zoo it was okay. The down side is we went around 10 o'clock and that seems to be the time they clean all cages so most of the animal were in the cages and we didn't see them. So definitely go after 10 okay.

We love to take the grandkids to the zoo they love feeding the giraffes and going to the fish pond. Great fun

We got there right when the zoo opened, so it would be cool and the animals would be moving. It only costs my daughter and I $4.50 to get in, as we were given a coupon by our hotel. The zoo offers train and carousel rides, but we didn't partake as they cost extra. We spent a total of 2 hours there and were never bored. The highlight of the morning was feeding the giraffes ($4 for three long, pieces of lettuce). It was definitely worth it! If were are ever in the area again, we would most definitely visit again.

We enjoyed going to the Abilene Zoo. It’s exhibits are nice, they are always working to add and improve areas, and the animals look well taken care of. The flamingos are wonderful and the giraffe landing is fun. There’s a carasol and small kiddie train. The gift shop is nice. I would recommend the Abilene Zoo as a fun way to spend the afternoon.

One of my favorite zoos! It is small but SO nicely kept! The train and carousel make it fun for kids! I love it! I’ve been to zoos al over the country and this is one of my favorites!!

We love our zoo! So great for all ages. Our granddaughters have season passes and are enrolled in Zoo camp each year. The new giraffe exhibit is the best. There is a merry go round and a little train that goes all around the zoo. Such a happy place. A must see when you are in Abilene!

I loved the Abilene zoo, it was a nice 30 minutes, nice variety of animals and staff was friendly. It's just not that big, I think it's perfect for younger children.

I have gone to the Abilene zoo several time over the years and have always enjoyed the experience. The place is always clean and the animals are well presented.

I like this park because its the perfect size. The path isn't so long you get lost or tired, but it's not so short your done too soon. They have a wonderful giraffe exhibit where you can feed the giraffe. That's super fun for the adults and the kids. Price is also great. A fun family experience.

It's been awhile since I've felt like a kid again. I took a young little one and it felt great to see life through his eyes! He loved the lion the most!

We have been long time members of the Abilene Zoo and LOVE going, but if you ever forget your membership card they will not let you in without paying for a new card. I guess they got tired of looking up people's memberships. but a little customer service goes a long way.

I love this zoo. This is one of the gorgeous zoos ever. The animals are very active and friendly here.

it is mid size zoo but, have good variety of animals the place looks good and they keep it well my kids enjoy it

Took the grandkids and they got got to see all sorts of animals including feeding giraffes. The cougar and monkeys were fun to see also

Had a nice visit with family while on a Texas roadtrip. Cute little zoo. Giraffe exhibit was terrific. A little pricey for a 2 hour excursion though. Glad we went but wouldn't come back.

Fun time, well kept, friendly staff!
Very knowledgeable staff. Beautiful setting
Be prepared to purchase train or carousel tickets (extra cost)

Cute little zoo that doesn't break the bank. We paid less than $40 for 2 adults, 2 children and 6 tokens for rides.

The zoo is laid out well, with a nice collection of animals and birds. The giraffes are fun to watch. The animals seem to well cared for. It was a nice place to spend a couple of hours.

My kids loved the zoo. Sooo much easier and more enjoyable to walk around with it being smaller and well organized. They have a carousel and a train you can take your kids on for $2 which was fun. Got to feed a huge giraffe up close. Gave him some lettuce which he reached his long tongue out and grabbed - so cool. My favorite was the howler monkeys - the big black one went nuts as was growling/howling for ten minutes.
Zoo admission is affordable and annual pass is a steal; it even allows you to bring up to 6 guests for free any day you want!

For city the size of Abilene, this zoo is a good place to spend a couple of hours. In my opinion the highlights of the zoo are the giraffe exhibit where you can feed some for $4 and a great selection of exotic birds including cranes, toucans, and flamingos.
Don’t try to compare this zoo to ones in Ft. Worth, Dallas or OKC because the size isn’t comparable. But this place is ran well and worth a visit if spending time in Abilene.

Privileged to share the zoo with some great military personnel! Our first visit to the zoo, but not our last. Outstanding zoo the city of Abilene can be proud of. Many indoor and outdoor exhibits. Took appox. 2 hrs. to see everything, but we took our time and enjoyed all areas. Many kids that day and it's always fun to watch their reactions. Very reasonable prices and we found online discounts in Abilene tourist info. Excellent giraffe exhibit with feeding balcony!!!!

This zoo is very entertaining for the entire family! Train ride, merry go 'round + lots of animals!!

Went on a very busy Saturday afternoon. Parking was almost full but fine. Very reasonably priced. Just had a great day, We go every couple of months.

I was so disappointed in the zoo. These kids traveled over 4 hours round trip on a school bus to spend 2.5 hours looking at all small animals. The reptile enclosure was great but that's about it. There are quite a few birds but no large animals. There were lots of empty habitats. It was a total bust. I went to college in Abilene and we loved the zoo. They've spent a lot of money on a giraffe area but it was all closed because of mud. Next time we'll go to Fort Worth.

There have been a lot of improvements at this zoo since my last visit (about 15 years ago!). The animals look well cared for. It's a very nice zoo, although it seems to be laid out a little awkward. We were not offered a zoo map, but I would recommend picking one up if they are available. The giraffes are great! You can purchase lettuce to feed them! ($4 for 3 lettuce leaves, little pricey compared to other zoos) Fun to watch the kids reactions! Admission is reasonable $7 adults, $4.50 for kids I believe. You can also purchase tokens ($2 each) for the carousel and train ride. I would definitely recommend a visit!

its a zoo my kids loved it. love feeding the animals. and the train ride. was hot so did not stay long

Took my nephews to this zoo. We all enjoyed it very much. It's not a big zoo, but it was still nice. I will be coming back.

A beautiful and clean zoo. Lots of interesting animals, beautiful environments, the scenery and being by the big lake was pretty. It was too windy to take out the swan paddle boats but we would have done that too! Definitely worth going!

Nice size zoo for a short visit, had everything (well except elephants), Niece had a great time feeding the giraffe and the catfish/ducks. I have to say I think this zoo had the best gift shop I have seen in a while - great visit!

We go to zoos in many different cities on out road trips. There was not anything specifically wrong with this zoo, it just was not one of our more favorite. It was small, which is ok, but we would probably not go a second time.

I hate to give a bad review but this place didn’t have hardly anything going on. It felt deserted. COVID had so much closed. I think the price was high since there isn’t much to do.

Every time I come back they put improvments into the infastructure. The girrafe exhabite is fun and a little bet scary becuse you are so close to the animals. Good layout and lots to see in a small zoo. I have been to huge zoos in Chicago and Clevaland and this one is still fun to take the faimly too. Also because it is small i do not have to spend the entire day there.

We were able to make 2 rounds of everything in 2 hours. Animals were 90% visible and active on this late spring day

We have long had membership to the Abilene zoo and it’s a great gift to give or receive. This zoo is a great size for a few hours out with my 4 year old and he loves riding the zoo train as a special treat. I love zoos in general but the size of this one is intimate and not overwhelming like bigger zoos can be. We went a few times a week when living in Abilene and now it’s a highlight when we are passing through visiting family and friends! Bring a picnic, a friend, a family member and have a great day!

While the zoo has ample space for waking and special events that are occasionally hosted, it's often at the price of small exhibits for the animals, especially for the large cats. Additionally many of the exhibits do not have appropriate activities for the animals to keep themselves entertained.

They advertised a "Sunset Safari", staying open until 9 pm. We got there at 7:00 pm. We purchased tokens to take the train ride. We walked around for about 30 minutes then decided to take the train ride. We get to the place to wait. The train arrives. The main tells us "This was the last ride". I told him we had bought tokens. He said to go to guest services. We did, and they told us the tokens were NON REFUNDABLE! Now, about the zoo itself. If you are into birds & a handful of monkeys you will like it. The lions were interesting, however any of the larger animals had not been appropriately taken care of. It's very hot in Abilene in July, and there was hardly any water for them. We wanted to see the giraffe. We go to that area, and it's closed. Keep in mind this has been advertised as a "Sunset Safari". So one would think you would be able to see EVERYTHING.. The place where there rhino was, had ''very little" water. We was very disappointed.

This was the second time we have been to the zoo, and I have loved each time. It is worth the time if you are in the neighborhood!
My girls loved feeding the giraffe for $4.

Kids loved it. It would take like 2 hours to cover it completely and you could see lot of animals up close. We went on 12/24 and there was no crowd. Staff were friendly.

I love this place. The exhibits are great, there's a lot of animal interaction with the patrons, and its somewhere I'm happy to keep coming back to.

It is a great place to visit in their improving upon it every time I visit and the animals are seem very happy

I usually use a walker, but decided to rent one of there "wheelchairs" for $10 so I could see easier and not get as tired. I just can't walk that far.
The paths at the zoo are horrible if you're being pushed. Uneven and all different types of surfaces. I got stuck in loose fine gravel that surrounds the Paradise portion. I had to get up and push myself up to the cement walkway. The real wood planks around the alligator exhibit was scary since in places the planks were either broke or missing. Again had to get up out of the chair to unstick the wheel from a missing plank.
The path up to the giraffes was the worst yet. It is plastic planks that look like wood. Even dry they are slick and steep. My husband was literally at a 45° angle trying to push me up to the top. The ride down was terrifying. He had such an issue keeping my speed down while slipping on the planks and again, the incline was steep. The bathroom by the snack bar didn't have handicapped stalls. Barely my 6 yr old and myself fit and again I couldn't bring the chair in with me.
Vending machines for water and sodas weren't even plugged in.
After my attempts to see some things, I basically had to have my husband park me in the shade so he could walk my daughter around to see things.
Getting into and out of buildings was so hard. Double doors were so heavy my daughter couldn't push and hold them open by herself. So my husband had to get me close enough so I try to not fall out if the wheelchair and hold open the door myself. Some double doors had one door locked. That made it doublely hard to get thru the door.
I was so excited to be able, I thought, to take my daughter to the zoo with my disability in mind. We drove all the way from Odessa and it was a nightmare for us. So much harder than it needed to be. I won't be back. I felt humiliated and ashamed. I thought I had done my homework and found a place that could accommodate my disability. I was so wrong. Plus it pissed me off to have to rent their "wheelchair" for $10!

Great smaller zoo without the crowds you get at some of the other zoos like Fort Worth and Dallas. The zoo also offers a lot of the same animals you would see at any other zoo. Prices are reasonable.

Maybe I have been to larger zoos, and this has spoiled me to expecting something better....this zoo is ok for size of area but enclosures are sorely lacking for most animals there unless they are birds or reptiles.
Most areas lack grass and some areas didn't even have water available for animals unless it was well hidden from view.
Overall it was a good zoo, nice enclosures with cute animals.

Such a truly wonderful zoo for a city the size of Abilene! Don't miss it! The giraffe exhibit is excellent!

While this will not rank among the grand zoos, it is surprisingly good. And, you won’t have to commit a day or two to see it all; A few hours will do.
The displays are larger than expected and well designed to mimic actual habitats of many. The train ride is great to get your directions sorted and get a quick glance into the layout. The indoor exhibits are all centrally located and may be sequenced one after another during the heat of the day.
Walkways are wide and easy to maneuver with only slight inclines and all exhibits accessible. Good snack bar with only slightly higher pricing. Overall, the Abilene Zoo, is well worth a visit.

Abilene's zoo brings a large variety of animals & reptiles close enough for an interactive experience for visitors. Weather permitting the lake provides pedal swan boats for rent and picnic locations nearby.

While the Abilene Zoo may not be the largest or fanciest, it is surprisingly nice for a town this size. Several exhibits are small and dated, but they are endeavoring to upgrade the exhibit habitats. They are adding some new animals such as the newest, the sloth. They routinely have festivals and celebrations which make it fun, and they have the train and merry go round (for a small fee) for the kids. It's easy to spend the whole day, with a couple of hours at the zoo, a picnic at the park, paddleboats on the lake, and letting the kids play on the playgrounds and the splash pad!
Here's a hint...if you plan on going 3 times throughout the year, or traveling to other big cities with zoos (not all city zoos though, such as Fort Worth), buy the season pass because you get large discounts on admission to many other zoos and aquariums. We used ours at Dallas, Brownsville, San Antonio, Tulsa, Kansas City, Springfield MO, and Corpus Christi. Have fun!

I've been to dozens of zoos around the country and I think this is one of the best for young families! It has a train, carousel, paddle boats and many great animal exhibits! It is big enough to be interesting but not too big for little ones to walk around! Plus the price is very reasonable! We live in Lubbock but drive to Abilene several times a year just to enjoy this zoo!! Love it!

I took my boys to the zoo every halloween. I can't remember what they called it, but we have so many awesome memories of our boys trick or treating at the zoo. It was so cool to see just how many families would make it the place they took their kids.

Came to Abilene in June to visit some friends and their small children and decided wed go to the zoo. That was a very fun trip made a day of it there are a lot of new things to see and everything has a newer feel to it a lot more appeal .makes me want to keep coming back you can walk around several times and feel like you haven't seen it all but all in all very enjoyable

The zoo was good but it was the only venue we visited that offered no military discount. The attendant was very curt when we asked for it,her words "we don't do that here".Shameful.

The zoo has undergone many changes and updates and is really a great place to take your children. An especially favorite area is the giraffe center where you can feed and view many beautiful adults and watch for the babies as there have been a few born recently!

Went on a slow day with two small boys. They really enjoyed all the animals. It seemed fairly clean and the staff was okay. The price was also okay for the size. The price for feeding three lettuce leaves to the giraffes were too much I thought ($4), however, the boys loved feeding them (and the giraffes did too). If it were a busy day I am not sure it would have been as enjoyable. The Carousel and Train are small but cute. You get tokens to ride those and they were $1 for each person for one ride. A few of the animal displays were fogged up so it was hard to see some of the animals. The gift shop was average. We did not buy any food so can't comment on that. There is only military discounts on the yearly membership.

My family and I love to go to this zoo when we are in town. Its small and only takes 2-3 (maybe less) hours to see the entire thing. My son loved the train and carousal and they were both cheap. The zoo has a great layout and there is a lot of shade and indoor areas to stay cool. There are also a good number of benches to relax on. I loved the giraffe exhibit...it seems brand new and the kids love to feed the giraffes. All the exhibits make it easy to see the animals.

I love this new especially considering that it's from such a small City. They don't have all the primary animals you'd see in a bigger city zoos but the animals they do have have a great enclosures. I love the themes throughout very nicely done. The staff is friendly and the park is clean. I like that it's on the edge of a little Lake. And there is a ton of shade throughout so even on a hot day this would be a great to spend some time at.

This is an awesome zoo! It is the perfect size to walk around with little ones and has a great variety of animals. Everything is well maintained as well. Great way to spend an hour or two.

It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning. I appreciate that it wasn’t priced like a tourist-trap, and it’s the perfect size & layout to keep smaller children from tiring out too soon. We’ll be back :)

Don't expect a massive Zoo like what you see in big cities. It's small but still has the excitement of seeing the animals. We are fortunate to have a Zoo in a place as small as Abilene. The lions looks a little mangy but they are also probably very old. It's worth the trip to go if you live here, just don't expect an all day excursion. I think we walked the whole thing in 2 hours. We are excited to go back and see the new giraffe enclosure.

Even though my kids are grown now, I still enjoy a trip to the zoo! The Abilene Zoo has gotten so much bigger and better since I was a child. Almost every year, it seems they are doing something to add on or improve an existing exhibit. It's well worth the money spent. And I'm not sure if they still have it, but they used to offer a family package that made the value that much more worth the visits!

Well managed and clean zoo with a wide variety of wildlife and reptiles. A family can ride a small train around the animal attractions and view the lake south of the zoo.

This is a small but great zoo! Had a great day. Train ride, carousel ride and lots of animals. Fun time and just right for toddlers and young children.

Very hot in the summertime, so much so we did not stay long. But it is a nice zoo for a small city like Abilene.

This zoo is really well done for a city of this size. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. The train ride is fun for the little ones. The only disappointment is that several of the animals were off exhibit when we were there.

The zoo here is better than good, it is great. Very tranquil, very well kept, and extremely friendly staff. The animals, reptiles, birds, etc. speak for themselves. Beautiful!

really enjoyed my visit to this cute little zoo. Nicely laid out, good scenery, no smell and the animals are very visible without looking thru cages.

Stopped on our way through town on a road trip. We were pleasantly surprised! A good variety of animals and we got to feed the giraffes! For $3 extra. The $10 entrance fee was very reasonable. The grounds and enclosures are well taken care of. Highly recommend

We went to this zoo on a Thursday morning. We were so impressed the zoo is small but well maintained. A nice variety of animals lions, tigers and a bear (oh my). There were birds and reptiles and a small train ride. Best thing the zoo was very affordable. The zoo is getting some new animals (sloth and a anteater) we will be back for sure. Be sure to feed the giraffes!!

We spent 5 years in Abilene before visiting this zoo. Don't wait. Plan on visiting soon. Wide variety of animals to see. Plan on spending 2 to 3 hours at a minimum.

We went to the Zoo on 5 July, early in the morning. What a fantastic time we had...got to see the animals eating breakfast and it wasn't so hot yet. My 3-year old loved the train ride and carousel. I enjoyed feeding the giraffe, my favorite animal. Keep us the good work out there...very neat and clean.

Well worth the trip. In addition to a first class zoo, it is set in a nice large park with lake, playgrounds, splash pads, etc. We've been many times and everyone always enjoys it.

I have visited the San Diego Zoo, Houston Zoo, San Antonio Zoo and the Austin Zoo....San Diego being out of the ballpark, but Abilene's Zoo is the sweetest. It is a small zoo with a lot of heart. The habitats are always being updated and mostly very nice. You can spend a pleasant two hours strolling with your children and come out a very happy camper.

We've been visiting the Abilene Zoo since 1982. The bridge over the giraffe exhibit is a unique feature that my children always loved. The zoo has grown and changed quite a bit and most of the changes have been positive. The train ride is a neat addition.
I don't know if it is still their policy, but we went on Mother's Day one year and all mothers were given free admittance.
It is an exceptional zoo, especially for the size of the city.

Decided to take the kids on a quick weekend trip and the zoo was just what we needed, the zoo is well keeped and we seen all the animals , the staff was very helpful and quick to please. My kids enjoyed feeding the giraffes

People are amazed that in Abilene Texas there is such a beautiful well kept zoo. Full of animals- Rhinos, Zebras, Giraffes, Ekephants and everything n between situated on a body Of water that has fishing or paddle boats and even a splash pad for the kids.

We took our college student staff to the zoo during training and had an amazing time. The weather was a little chilly but this was made up for by awesome and helpful staff and $2 Tuesday. This is a great zoo for a city as small as Abilene. Check it out!

Haven't been here in over 20+ years and I must say it's changed a lot. Love the new giraffe exhibit! The ladies there were very engaged and knew ALL about our giraffes! Great lol walking zoo if you need to get your steps in. Not so much for older folks who have to negotiate ramps and stairs. Overall a very good visit!

Been here many times but always enjoy seeing the animals! There are a train, a carousel, and swan pedal boats to enjoy as well. The zoo is not big so it can be done in a couple of hours. Check it out while in Abilene.

The Abilene zoo is a very nice zoo the lay out is simple and not huge compared to other zoos I've been at . ( San Diego ) it's about a 1-3 hour walk depending on speed and who you take I've been 3 different times and each time it's been a great experience .

June 2014- I went on the unguided tour with my cousin. I don't see what could go wrong. Friendly workers, lots of species of animals. It was worth the $7 pp we paid.

We visited the Abilene Zoo on our road trip for the first time and we were pleased. Lots of great animals to see. Kids can feed the ducks and fish for 25 cents. Cafe was good but pretty expensive - $8 for a cheese burger. Zoo train is fun for the little kids. Gift shop has lots of choices for souvenirs. I will come back next time I am in the area.

The zoo is always a good place to go when you have children. The zoo here has been working really hard to make improvements and it shows.

This zoo is ok for a smaller zoo. You'll spend about 2 hrs walking around it. The new giraffe exhibit is really nice.

What a cute little zoo! Perfect for families with young children. Plenty of activities for them: like feeding fish and ducks, and playing at play areas. I just wish there were some food vending areas. I saw plenty of drink vending machines, but not food.

We celebrated our three year olds birthday party at the zoo. Family and friends drove in for the day, everyone explores the zoo at their leisure and then we met up for pizza and cake.
The one draw back of the visit was the trains were running very slow.

You never know what you will see hete! I love this place!you can most def take the kids for a great day! It’s unbelievable what you may see! I don’t want to spoil it for you but bring the kids and your camera!!!!! Surprise awaits!!!♥️

We visit the zoo everytime we come to Abilene to visit family! Our boys absolutely love it! The new giraffe exhibit is wonderful!

Small zoo, very well kept and great place for family with small kids. Lots of things for the little ones do do, all done in 2 hours.

The staff and animals are friendly! The exhibits are always fresh, and the GIRAFFE EXHIBIT is interactive and so fun for all ages!

Took my 93 year old mother in law there. She had a great time. It was fun seeing her in that environment and relating back to all of the other zoo's she had been to over her lifetime.

Clean, well maintained little zoo, several animals to see, our favorite are the spider monkeys! It's a easy half day visit, never been crowded any time we've been, and the zoo is set in a nice park with a playground and splash pad for the warmer months. Worth a visit if you are passing through!

We've been going to this zoo for over 10 years now and it never disappoints. We love seeing all the progress and new exhibits open up.

We have a great time at the zoo. The girls love it and look forward to it every time. They work very hard to improve the exhibits and add new things so there are always things changing, and the animals are so close we can really get a great view of them.

My kids are now 10 and 8 and they never get tired of going to the zoo. We go several times each year. They have a lot to look at and it's a nice zoo. Plus with the paddle boats and park nearby, it makes for a great family day.

The Abilene Zoo is great for Abilene! Not a lot to do here and the zoo keeps updating and adding on. It's great for kids, they love it. Not the best zoo I've ever been to, but it's good. Granted, $4 for 3 pieces of lettuce to feed the giraffes is a little pricey, but they do have to make money somehow. Be sure to take your own food and drink...if you think the lettuce is high, wait til you get to the snack bar.

The Zoo in Abilene, TX is not huge, but it is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours--and we do it frequently. The weather here helps, of course, but the Zoo itself is the big attraction. A clean and calm oasis, this Zoo is also educational, beautifully maintained, and the animals are obviously healthy. While I'd prefer animals were in the wild, Zoo's are where we learn to appreciate their unique and interesting character and see how they are different from us, and how they are the same. Giraffes are the Abilene Zoo's favorite inhabitants and their compound is fantastic with a viewing area that puts you head-to-head with these magnificent and interesting animals--and they are currently expecting a new baby! Come on down and see us sometime and see our wonderful Zoo.

The zoo staff are very friendly and helpful. The zoo store is stocked with interesting memorabilia. The animals are well cared for and the exhibits are clean and provide an excellent viewing opportunity.

Well maintained, clean and the staff was knowledgable and friendly. Good value for the price. Nice place to bring younger children. My boy is 2 years old

We had a wonderful time visiting the Abilene zoo while we were on a layover during a theatrical tour ... first off, all the animals that we saw seemed very happy and from what we could tell healthy in their enclosures. The zoo was also the perfect size for an afternoon… You feel like you can see everything but also get to see a lot… It's neither too big or too small for a great experience ! Definitely worth spending an afternoon at the Abilene zoo!

This is a great small zoo. They have just about every animal you would want to see. You can spend a couple hours if you take your time or an hour or so and still see everything. Price is affordable but he warned if you take younger children they will want to ride the train and the carousel and both cost extra.

We had a great time visiting the zoo in Abilene. Was blown away by the animals and fun things to do! Will definitely be back on hopefully a not so hot day

This zoo has been revamped from the front to the exhibits! Everything is wonderful! It's an easy 2-3 hour adventure with cart rentals for your kids. The paths are large & lovely for walking. The gift shop has everything kids want to own from necklaces, t- shirts. Very nice shop! Our only downside: the zoo had been advertising the giraffes. We went & the giraffes weren't on exhibit for some reason That was disappointing. They eat out of your hand & lick you with their big ol' tongues! So my grandbaby missed that.

Had a super experience with my grand kids ages 2, 7. Feeding the giraffes was the favorite and seeing the reptiles eat the mice and rats. Crazy.feeding time. We go there every opportunity we have with the kids. Highly recommend this gem of a ZOO>

Great visit for all ages! The zoo does such a great job taking care of th animals. There are quite a good variety of animals! They used to let you pet the Giraffes, but now you can feed them but not touch them. The feeding is $4 for 3 pieces of lettuce. Pretty pricey. Kids had fun!

This is a zoo that's is just the right size for toddlers to seniors. The outside walking areas are easy to navigate and there are several air conditioned buildings housing special exhibits. The giraffe display has been renovated.

Been going here for years and it has always been fun for the kids. It's nice, clean and the zoo keepers are always interacting with the kids.

We all enjoyed the animals and how clean and organized this zoo is. What a fun few hours! Although small, many animals were out making noises anticipating their lunch time.

We’ve been to this zoo many times as we live here in Abilene. They have made tons of improvements lately and are still making more. It was a cute little zoo before and just keeps getting better. The giraffe exhibit is awesome but the cost to buy lettuce to feed them is a little high but fun for the kids.

Went to see a few special exhibits. The staff is so friendly and the park is so clean. The monkeys love the popcorn. It was a good time in the weather was great.

Abilene Zoo built a new giraffes exhibit where you are up close. You can feed them large leaf.
Bring back elephants and I would like it more

My son took us to the zoo on May 6th, 2018. He wanted to surprise his daughter, and she was surprised. It was a 3-hour drive, and well worth it. I am a disabled veteran. I recently had surgery and relied on a wheelchair to get around. I will say that while some areas were difficult to navigate, the majority was easy. I would suggest making changes to the areas where soft dirt was the main pathway. one part was wet, and it was not passable while seated. Bathroom doors could be easier to open but aside from that, I enjoyed my visit. In fact, my wife and I along with our adult daughter are returning on the 21st. I look forward to another exciting visit.

Been going to this zoo since the 80's. It has change a lot over the years. Definitely plenty to do and see for family outing.

I have traveled to many places in the US, Europe and Asia and one of my first stops has been the local Zoo or animal park. Recently I have relocated to Abilene, Texas and visited their Zoo.
I was anxious to see what the Zoo looked like, having read about the birth of a giraffe in September.
The Zoo covers an area of 16 acres and has about 1,000 animals representing 250 species.
Abilene is a great place to live, but I didn't expect to find a Zoo that was as good as this one. The news of a new giraffe made my first trip almost mandatory. I couldn't wait to see the baby, which at birth weighed in at 120 pounds.
Knowing that I was going to be here often, I joined the Zoo membership on my first visit. I have not been disappointed with that decision.
The park is beautiful and well tended and the staff is great.
This review talks a lot about the giraffe exhibit, but will be followed at a later date by other areas.
A unique feature of the exhibit is the opportunity that you will have to get up close and personal with what might be described as on of the most beautiful creatures on earth. You will be able to see these animals from ground level as they roam around their compound and then you can observe them eye to eye from a platform that allows you to feed them lettuce leaves while you admire their beautiful faces and, if you are lucky, be rewarded with a kiss on the cheek.
You will see the youngest member of the group, as well as his family, "Mesi" the proud daddy and "Punk" the mom. Mesi is discouraged from getting too close to the audience and is fed st a point that keeps his head far enough from yo that there would be no opportunity for him to bump into a guest with his head which weighs about 75 pounds. He wouldn't be trying to hurt anyone but a gentle tap in his mind might be more than a playful nudge to you.
Needless to say, I will be spending many happy hours at this wonderful facility and hope to see you there.

This is DEFINITELY one of our FAVORITE places to bring our Grandchildren, Friends or out of town guest!! This is Absolutely One of The Best Zoo's in Texas! Always Clean, the Zoo Keepers are Enthusiastic, and More than Excited to answer your children's questions about the animals. The animal's habitats are kept neat and tidy, and the animals are well cared for! Overall a great place to visit!!! Very Reasonably Priced as well.

This is a very well designed zoo. The animals have lovely enclosures and the new giraffe attraction was fabulous . Even though it was very hot the day we were there and some of the larger animals were not willing to come out, there was still plenty to see. Plenty of places to sit in the shade.
well worth the trip.

This zoo is large enough to be interesting but small enough not to be exhausting. It is easily manageable and makes for a great way to spend half a day. The highlight is the giraffe enclosure where there is a walkway that goes over the top. You can buy feed out of vending machines and feed the giraffes from the bridge allowing you to be face to face with them. Kids big and small love it.

Babies first time at the zoo. Can’t beat $2 Tuesday’s. Not a lot of animals active this time of year unfortunately.

Being from the Houston area, we didn't expect much but we loved the Abilene zoo! The paddle boats, train ride and the overall quality of the zoo itself were incredible! The staff were very friendly and the grounds were well maintained. The food was good and not terribly overpriced. Feeding the giraffes was fun and you could see nearly every animal on display.
Although the zoo itself is not very large, it is plenty big enough to enjoy for several hours. Definitely recommend!

The animals were not out for the kids to see. We walked around to see empty cages. But we still had a nice time maybe we will try again when it's warmer outside

Small but we'll worth it! Will be coming back again soon! Only disappointment was that the graffiti's display was closed and that was one of the things we came to see, but they said it will be opening back up soon and will be even better than before, can't wait to see it.

I have been to many zoos, San Diego and Brookfield Zoo (large), and this one is quite nice for its size. It is not a very large zoo, but wear your walking shoes. The zoo has many different kinds of animals and a lot of them were active, not just lying around. The lions were awake and moving. You can feed the giraffes for a small fee. Parking is plentiful and there is a souvenir shop. Enjoy the Zoo!

This is my favorite zoo to take the grandchildren. It is small and not really crowded. The collection is not as large as the Ft. Worth or Dallas zoos, but this one was a much better experience. The girls loved feeding the giraffes!

fun to feed the giraffes! clean environment, attentive staff, good gift shop and snack shack! Ground crew keeps up maintenance and improvements! Not to mention all the animals, birds, etc.

It’s a very nice small zoo. Surprizeling Very clean and good pricing lots of smalller animals to see and worth a trip if near by. And for few hrs Kid friendly

Great place to take the kids. Neat train for kids to ride across the zoo. Good snacks and plenty of places to sit in the shade. On-going update to displays and cages. Discounts for out of town visitors - show license to verify residence.

The Abilene Zoo is an ever evolving zoo and bird sanctuary. It even accepts injured birds as they have a medical staff to care for them.
My husband and I have taken several injured birds to them for medical treatment.
They have a really fun Flamingo and Caribbean section now too! Ohhh, I nearly forgot to mention the new Cool Giraffe section!🎉 It’s all a must see!!

We arrived with the kids for a fun Sunday afternoon. Really enjoyed this zoo as it is smaller than urban zoos but offers so much to see. Our favorite moments is when the macaws were mimicking our daughters movements! So much fun to see their play. Feeding the giraffes was also a hit. A must see and do. The playground afterwards is very satisfying!

Always clean, friendly staff, one of the most affordable gift shops of any zoo. definitely recommend the giraffe feeding. food is affordable & tasty.

An amazing zoo for the town the size of Abilene. The new giraffe exhibit is one of the best I have seen. Well worth a stop.

Nice new improvements! The giraffe area is really cool, so fun for the kids to have a chance to feed them and see them up close!

This zoo is always clean and the animals are well cared for.We have visited this zoo every year we come. We never get tired of visiting.

The Abilene zoo area has a great little park with an adventure park just outside. Also there is a jogging trail, a dog park, a pond you can fish in, & picnic tables with grills.
The zoo itself has a neat new giraffe feeding area, a creek, paddle boats, a place to feed the ducks and the fish, and a train. The landscaping is well done; lots of photo opportunities.
The zoo is a smaller zoo. I think it best to go in the morning and then get lunch.

While this is not a large zoo, it is a well run & enjoyable facility.
We visited on Friday of Spring Break. They were very busy but well prepared for a big crowd.
We were visiting from out of town & had purchased the Zoo Package from the Fairfield Inn. Upon arriving at the zoo, we were told there is not a package of 2 free adult tickets in spite of the email I had from Fairfield confirming the offer. Shame on Fairfield. Call the zoo to find out what promotions they accept before booking with them. The zoo staff were polite and tried to be as accommodating as possible.
The gift shop has an excellent selection. There is no junk here. In spite of the fact they need to have the revenue to support the zoo, the prices were quite resonable.
We arrived early & were glad we did since the crowd built until well after noon.
This was a pleasant time for preschoolers, parents, and grandparents.

We have been members of the zoo for years and the new giraffe exhibit is awesome!! We love that the memberships are so affordable and if we need to get out of the house for a bit, my kids always pick the zoo!

We arrived at the zoo right at opening time. All the animals were out and about. We even got to see several of them being fed. We hand feed the giraffes and that was very exciting!! We hand feed a gorgeous peacock and he followed us around for awhile. The girls rode the carrousel and we all rode the train. The three kid's rented the pedal swan's and took a ride around the lake. They had a blast. We made all the stops, some twice, and managed to get out just before it got too hot.

I love my trips to the Abilene Zoo. It's small, but well worth it in my opinion. They recently refurbished the giraffe exhibit and added a few more animals nearby. They also just welcomed a newborn giraffe. I personally can't wait for him to be allowed out where he can be seen.

Some friends and I went to the zoo, and we were delightfully surprised to see the updated display area for the giraffes and other areas. Very nice plants were scattered between the displays of animals.

Was very disappointed. It was cold and we weren't able to see alot of the animals. They were inside or in their habitat . Would have wanted to see more.

We enjoyed our trip to the Zoo. For its size it has everything that you would expect to see in a larger city. Worth a visit.

We went on a week day. Not a crowd to push or shove to see the animals. My kids favorite was the 65 year old gator. Warm day and open skies made me looking for shade all day.
A long wait for the zoo train to just go back over what we had just seen. Do this first

Took all of our grandkids to the Abilene Zoo. Everyone had a wonderful experience. Really like the new renovations. Great facility for a city this size, I expect it is the envy of area towns.

We visited the zoo on 5/1/16. Was very pleasant and interesting. My granddaughter was able to hand feed the giraffe, they have an awesome reptile and animals of Texas indoor housing area that's great!!... They have a little small 3-car train that's free for children under 2 and $2 for everyone else... Enjoyed all aspects about this zoo. Would definitely revisit again. Very satisfying for the price.

I have visited the Abilene zoo multiple times. They have made a lot of improvements over the past couple years. Loved the giraffe exhibit!!!

This is a very nice zoo. It is fairly small, but the exhibits are nice. This would be the perfect zoo for those with younger children. It has a small train and carousel. The snack shack was reasonably priced and the food was good. The staff was friendly. My kids are 11&13 and they just wished there was more. I recommend getting the Abilene Round-Up Pass if you are visiting and using it for multiple attractions.

We have been to the Abilene many time when passing through. The kids love it and always have a good time. It's not so large that they are exhausted by the end, but it is also big enough to feel like money well spent. They also now have a splash pad near by if it is too hot!

For a smaller zoo this place is surprising. Lots of new consrtuction too exhibits that are unbelievable. The new giraffe exhibit is amazing as is the new alkigator enclosure.

Took my two grandsons on a school holiday. They love exploring the grounds and learning about the reptiles, birds and animals. A fun, safe and clean place. Snack bar available with reasonable prices. A great way to spend a few hours with the kiddos.

This is a cute little zoo that packs a big punch. They took a lot of care in planning the exhibits and the walkways. Even though it is small they have it set up to where you can't tel how small it is. Do not forget to check out the unforgettable giraffe feeding exhibit.

Very nice, clean and pretty zoo in a large public park. The zoo is small but well-laid out and just the perfect length of time for young kids. Animal highlights: White Tiger, Giraffes (with feedings at certain times), Lions, Rhinos, Camel, Zebras, Cougars, and much more. They have a fossil/gem stone sluice area ($9 and up for a good-sized bag which we were able to share among 3 kids). There's a small sand box area in a shady corner near some brightly colored tables/chairs. As a mom, I really appreciated all the restrooms scattered throughout. There's a mini train with a long line, so we skipped it. It does get pretty hot out here so bring your water. Outside the zoo within the park is a Splash Pad (kinda small and crowded on hot day), Swan Paddle Boat rentals, a playground (too hot in full sunlight), a nice dog park, and sports areas.
13 year old - Liked it ok, mostly played Pokémon Go
8 year old - Really liked the Reptile House (and I liked the A/C)
4 year old - Liked the mining station and giraffes

I love this Zoo! My grandkids truly enjoy the zoo each and every time we go and they want to go as often as we can take them.

We were very pleasantly surprised by how great the Abilene Zoo was! Great day! The grounds are beautiful. The giraffe experience is so fun! The swan paddle boats are so fun. Great stop even if just driving through the area off of I-20. It’s not too large of a zoo so you can experience it all but it won’t take you all day.

We've been members for years, but we still take our autistic son although he's grown now; and there's still great things to see! They are always adding to their animals, and keeping it very upbeat and fresh. It's a small zoo, but it's a real treat!!! It's rarely really crowded, except perhaps special occasions like Halloween, but it's a great place to go back to again and again.

Great Zoo, up close and personal with the animals. Not overly crowded. Easy parking. Great park for the kids. All the animals are out and moving around.

No one will mistake this zoo for the one in St. Louis, Washington D.C., or San Diego but for a town the size of Abilene it is first rate. The kids will particularly enjoy the giraffes up close and personal! Also don't miss feeding the fish on the pond. The fish pile on top of each other to get the food. A little unnerving! Give yourself a couple of hours but don't expect to spend the entire day.

The zoo is very well kept and perfect for a half day or 2-3 hour trip. The giraffe exhibit is the main attraction and was opened in late April.
Fun place for everyone to go.

I grew up going to this zoo. They have completely redone it and I love it! At first I was unsure but it's really coming together. It's nice that it's small enough to make it through in a decent amount of time, yet big enough to explore. Of course our son LOVES the train! We ride every time. Can't wait to see the new giraffe exhibit.

We were there the week before Christmas with our kids and grandkids. What a Great time we All had. We definitely want to go back.

This great little zoo is awesome!
Admission price is reasonable & the employees work very hard to make ur visit pleasant.
Lots of exhibits and all were very well maintained. Loved all the exotic birds!!
Can't wait to go back to see the new giraffe exhibit with the baby giraffe! You'll be offered giant leaves to feed them.
Great souvenir shop!

Abilene Zoo is a fav for everyone. It has a new look and new animal. Great place for the family to have some fun.

Most, if not all of the exhibits are too small for the animals. The most atrocious of which is the ocelot exhibit which is only slightly larger than a shelters kennel.
The carousel was broken when we last went which is our daughters favorite part of any zoo.
The kids train line was so long it literally took an hour for kids to get on.
I will say that we went there for a birthday party and they put together a really nice demonstration for the kids for that.

Nice place visit in Abilene. Came here with wife and love it. Good for visit with a cheap entry ticket

Since the last time I have been here they have improved so much! Definitely fun for all ages. Come visit!

The baby giraffes are exciting to see. We like to feed romaine lettuce to the adult giraffes (about $4)and see their amazing long black tongues. There is a wash up area. It’s an intimate zoo and can be explored in 60-90 minutes. Other animal favorites are the rhino, pink flamingoes, cougars, lions, white tiger, camels, anteater, spider monkeys, jaguars, alligator, and otters. Bring quarters to feed the fish. The swan paddle boats are an adventure, if it’s not too windy. We usually pack water and healthy snacks. The sand digging area is very popular, with chairs for adults to watch. If it’s hot cool off inside with the reptiles.
There’s a play area Fort Imagination and a splash pad outside the zoo. Use the restrooms inside the zoo near the entrance, newest and cleanest.

This place is a nice, smaller zoo. I especially enjoyed watching my kids at the pond feeding the fish. If you are looking for an inexpensive thing to do in Abilene, this place is a must.

We enjoyed strolling around this well planned zoo. The grounds were very pretty and there was quite a variety of animals. It was not crowded and offered several places for seniors to seat and rest.

We Were visiting family and took our grandchildren to the zoo. First, we had roundup passes, best deal ever! Pleasantly surprized that the push cart for tired little legs seats 2 and is only four dollars. The zoo is clean, love the open feel. It offers a nice array of animals. The giraffe exhibit will be wonderful once complete. We all had a great time.

Small zoo but fun. Loved feeding the giraffes - so cool. Definitely do that if u go. Also the exhibits are close to u so u can see the animals really well. Alot of the animals were off exhibit due to the weather but that's to be expected during Nov. We go to the FTW zoo alot so it's hard not to compare but loved the giraffes n the Jaguars.

We have a family membership and go to the Zoo several times during the year.
The train is great and the kids just love it. This is a super nice zoo for the size of Abilene, TX.

The Abilene Zoo is a wonderful, fun place to visit. There are many different animals to see and fun activities for young children When we go we always like to feed the fish in the pond. Visiting the zoo is a great activity for children of all ages. They have a great snake room. The zoo will be getting a giant anteater soon. I would recommend this place.

Small zoo with many animals to see. All within walking distance for kids. Very clean and great coupons available!

I first visited this zoo when I was a little boy. I wanted to see it again. It was a very enjoyable experience! The selection of animals was varied...including animals native to Texas. The kids will enjoy along with the adults. This zoo will bring the kid out in you! Staff was very helpful

The Abilene ZOO is a treasure to this city. It is one of the best I've been to. The new giraffe exhibit is absolutely incredible! You can feed the giraffes in these huts with big lettuce leafs. It's a wonderful experience. There are also brand new HUGE swam paddle boats that you can rent to ride all around the large pond there. Well worth the visit!

The giraffe exhibit they just finished is beautiful! The train rides for kids are perfect to keep them from having to walk. I love this zoo and the staff!

They have worked very hard over the last few years to improve the zoo from the animal habitats to the lovely grounds planted with native species. One of my favorite areas is Elm Creek Backyard because it focuses on species that are or have been native to this location. Often, we have been able to have hands-on encounters with some of the educational animals. Each visit leaves us with a new favorite memory.

We stopped by for a quick visit during our road trip. The zoo is of nice size and is very well maintained. The animals seemed happy and were very well kept. Overall, the zoo is nice and highly recommend it!

I took my granddaughters to the Abilene Zoo Saturday, September 23. Cartoon character Bluey was coming to the zoo. I purchased tickets several weeks in advance, and drove 2.5 hours. I have never seen this zoo so overly packed with people. It was total chaos. The lines were unreal. Didn't get to see the animals, because none of them were out. Didn't even get to see Bluey because the line was so long. I believe tickets for this event should have been limited. It was obviously over sold. If there had been an emergency, it would have been a nightmare. We left not long after we arrived with 4 disappointed little girls. This made me sad because we have always enjoyed this zoo.

We've visited the zoo on several occasions and each time have really enjoyed seeing what's new. Our favorite spot is the giraffe area. You'll be able to walk through the zoo and not feel pushed for time. It's large enough for a nice collection of animals but small enough to do in a morning or afternoon.

The Abilene Zoo has great features and great animals. You can feed giraffes (and maybe get a kiss), see baby jaguars, hear the lions roar from anywhere on the campus, and explore local animals like prairie dogs as well. I have been there many times, and the last time was for a wedding reception we were recording. I am amazed that a small city like Abilene has such a clean, diverse, high-quality zoo, and you will be too when you come and visit.

It was an awesome trip to the zoo they really have taken pride in this zoo great attraction and all very clean. The rhino and giraffe part was my favorite would definitely recommend this zoo.

There isn't as much to look at compared to a few other zoo's we have went to recently. The giraffes were cool as close to them as you can get. It was kinda expensive and everything in the gift shop was really expensive. Feed your kids being you go so they don't want anything while there.

The Ability Zoo is family friendly and fun. The giraffes are great. Feeding the fish was fun. Now there are Swan boats to ride on the lake.

Much nicer than I had imagined it would be. Wonderful for the kids, but watch out for the hot Texas sun, plan visit wisely. Place was clean, we did not eat there but enjoyed the place very much.

I came along for the ride on my daughter in law's business trip so I had an entire day to kill. I decided to go to the zoo all by myself. It was great. The zoo was laid out very well, the map was very easy to follow, the animals were easily visible, their habitats were nice. I really enjoyed myself

The zoo, was very clean, and all of the animals were out and sunning themselves on a very restful day. The zoo train was a great way to travel quickly through the zoo and give a different prospective to the zoo itself. Well worth the admission.

For a town the size of Abilene this zoo is amazing. Very well thought out and executed...fun for all ages.

This was our fourth trip to the Abilene zoo, my son loves it! The zoo is not due big or is it too small, I feel that they have just the right amount of animals.
The staff is very friendly and is always eager to answer questions or help if needed. They are very caring and I feel that they provide excellent care to these animals.
My son is a big fan of the Lion and that is the first place that we go as soon as we enter the zoo.
He is 4 and after every trip we have made to the Abilene zoo, he has retained so much knowledge and information because of the educational material that are printed in front of the animal's habitat.
I would definitely recommend taking a trip to the Abilene zoo it doesn't take up too much of your time and I feel that all the kids and even adults will enjoy it.

Well I live here for a medium city it very nice but not a major city zoo but very nice. The just got the Jeriff exabition open its really nice what i have seen

The abilene zoo is pretty small and quaint. They have a cute train that can take you around and is structurely beautiful to look at. They have a nifty giraffe area and cute signs. Not the usual kinda zoo. No elephants or chimpanzees unfortunately :( but over all its ok for a small town.

The best part of coming to the Abilene zoo have to be when you cross the bridge and have the giraffes come up to you for peanuts. The kids love seeing their long touches and feeding them. The next best is the primates exhibits. If your lucky they will be in a good mood and put on a performance for you:

This zoo is small, but has good variety and plenty of room to rest and gather the family together. There were a lot of animals to be seen and almost all were out in the open and visible.
We especially liked being able to actually feed the giraffes and the carp in the lake!!
My grandchildren enjoyed the zoo train and rode it three times.
I found the gift shop to be expensive, but when you figure the prices help with the upkeep and care of the animals... really hard to complain.
Overall, it was a great way to spend the afternoon, see the animals and enjoy the grandchildren. Also, they have a great playground next door and a dog park across the street, which easily makes for a pleasant days' outing!!!
A great way to spend an afternoon in Abilene!!

Although small, this is a very nice zoo. We have visited it several times and it is very supportive of the local community as well. My favorite is the prairie chicken, I could watch him dance all day.

Abilene has a really nice, small zoo. It's just the right size to keep a toddler entertained without getting overwhelmed. The giraffe exhibit has been recently redesigned and other exhibits are being renovated. It's worth a visit!

Had heard it was a great little zoo and was so impressed. Employees were all very very polite and very helpful, showing us around and answering questions. Nice peaceful walk around the grounds, grounds were very well kept and makes you wanna come back.
So to the employees and management thanks for making our visit SPECIAL and keep up the good work.

Wonderful zoo! This zoo continues to grow but also keep the small town feel. It's small enough to spend a few hours at but not big enough that it takes all day to enjoy. They've added train rides, giraffe feeding and even paddle boats! Fun for all ages!

This is a nice, well laid out, and well maintained small zoo. It has a fairly extensive reptile collection, lots of flamingos, and a group of giraffes which children can feed. Nice, clean, and modern facility, with a lake one can, weather permitting, paddle swan boats around. Lots of places to sit, and enjoy the animals, and the beauty of the park-like setting.

Not a large zoo, but has nice variety of animals in well-thought out surroundings. Got there early enough to feed the giraffes (bring dollars!) Took about 90 minutes to walk through the entire zoo. Was there on a Sunday morning, and there were a number of other attendees but overall a good time to visit.

Took granddaughter and she loved train and some walking...great place for little kids since small enough can walk around and not get to tired or hot....

My husband and I went to the Abilene Zoo on a Monday morning. The zoo was small but beautiful and very clean. Typical animals included lions, porcupine, bobcat, birds, leopard, monkeys, llama, zebras, ostriches, big turtles, giraffes, cougars, flamingos and more. It took about 90 minutes to visit. The reptile building and swam paddle boats were closed, probably due to Covid-19. Masks were suggested due to covid-19 but very few people wore them. Social distancing was easy because there were only a few zoo visitors. I got 2 for 1 coupon from the Abilene visitors WEB page. The zoo is open 9 am – 5 pm every day with last admission at 4:00 p.m. This is a must see.

The zoo was not fully open several exhibits were closed but there were several things to do during this lockdown and the place was full of families I enjoyed my visit

Every Halloween the Abilene Zoo has everyone visit in their costumes and pass out treats! Fun time for people of all ages!

Very nice zoo. I had a lovely day here with my family. The zoo was easy to get around. Animals were able to be viewed and seemed very well taken care of. Overall the zoo was clean and very well maintained and it was a happy experience .

This was one of the best zoos we have visited. The displays, exhibits and buildings were all very clean. The zoo even smelled clean, which means they take good care of their animals. People were able to get up close to the animals. The giraffe feeding was so much fun ( they have a giraffe that is a little bit of a pig). Best part was the animal encounters through out the day. The zoo had a volunteer that would bring out different animals through out the day for people to touch and learn about. Such a great place.

New Baby Giraffe at the zoo is on display with mom and friends. This is really one of the best Zoos west of the DFW Metroplex. Well planned, easy to enjoy and always clean.
They have a variety of special activities and programs for kids and families at different times of the year. Really nice and well worth the time.

Abilene Zoo is not a huge zoo by any means but it's big enough! They have been adding exhibits and attractions to keep it modernized. We love our visits and my grandchildren have a blast on the Carousel, train ride, and feeding the fish and ducks in the small lake. It's makes for a great afternoon visit!

I have visited this zoo since I was a kid and enjoyed sharing the fun with my kids. Small zoo with lots to offer... they also recognize memberships to other zoos giving a discount. Great place to visit when you are in Abilene!

I have taken my kids to the Abilene Zoo going on 17 years: the size of the zoo is perfect for small kids or kids with short attention spans. The City of Abilene has ensured that this family-friendly attraction is wrll-maintained and comfortable at all times if the year. It's a West Texas gem.

Stayed the night in Abilene. The family didn't get moving in enough time for us to make it our next planned stop. I gave a 9 and 8 yr old options to do in Abilene. They chose the zoo. Zoo's have started to become something we do on every vacation. Their selection of creates were interesting. There were signs that stated the endanger level. They had Pink Flamingo setting on eggs, a new baby monkey and a great and knowledgeable giraffe area. We all enjoyed the giraffes. For a small fee you get to feed them and we learned a lot. The staff and zoo are trying to bring in more animals and new exhibits.

Great little zoo, i would come back again. Only complaint is the paddle swan boats were not operating & in the gift shop, you have to pay for a bag if you buy any souvenirs.

I really nice zoo. Not too big would be great for small kids to get some energy out with. Pretty nice and a lot of animals. We enjoyed our visit.

Nice, clean zoo. Lake with paddle boats very reasonably priced. There is a large park area to relax in surrounding the zoo. Very nice place for everyone but especially children

We were traveling from Midland to Dallas with little ones and this was a perfect break in our trip. This zoo is very nice and great for the little ones. Lots of animals and very up close encounters.

This zoo isn't by any means a large attraction that you would see in a larger city but it's quite adequate for the area and it has a wonderful variety of animals of many species to represent a good quality zoo for children and adults to view. It is laid out in a very organized manner so you won't miss any of the viewing areas. The location is easy to find but the road leading to the entrance is harder to navigate. The price is reasonable. It's clean and appealing.

I have lived in Abilene, Tx for 19 years now. When we first moved here my wife and I would say things like, "The zoo here is pretty good for a city like Abilene." We would get family passes and I took my girls to the zoo often when they were little. Steadilly the zoo got better, but in small steps. Fast forward to 2018. I haven't been to the zoo in a few years. Wow! It's fantastic!! Everything has been upgraded. More and better exhibits. The landscaping is beautiful. I am very impressed with the Abilene Zoo and can't wait to see what the next 5-10 years has to offer.

This was the best zoo I've been too! Wide variety of animals and very visitor friendly! A great place for animal lovers you'd and old!

This is not the equivalent of the San Diego Zoo, but a nice visit with reasonable prices in Abilene. Small and easily walkable with youngsters or grandparents. Also, a small train that will take you around the park. We went at mid-day, and none of the key animals were viewable (cats/rhino) as they were sleeping out of the hot sun, so if wanting to see the key exhibits go early or late I imagine. There were no mentions of feeding times.

The zoo was very small and they do not have a whole lot of animals to see. It was very nice and clean. We enjoyed the trails, and the pretty landscaping! All in all we had a very nice time!!! We will definitely visit again!

Not bad for a city the size of Abilene. Actually surprised to find a zoo here. Cheap, family attraction. Decent amount of animals, exhibits.

The family stopped here as a halfway point between Houston and Santa Fe. Unlike most big city zoo's, this one was not crowded and only took 2 hours to see everything we wanted to see. Their souvenir shop was also very nice. We highly recommend this zoo when passing through Abilene.

I have taken my children and now my grandchildren to the zoo for years. The kids love it. They do a excellent job of keeping the zoo up to date. It is always clean . The grounds are maintained beautifully.

Clean and obviously well run, the Abilene Zoo is a spot that shouldn't be missed when you are in the area. With a carousel and a fun train to ride, it most definitely ranks up there with the larger zoos in the country.

We came to Abilene as a weekend trip from DFW metroplex to celebrate my daughter's birthday and get out of the house. This was a good outdoor activity for Covid times. The Abilene website for visitors has a coupon - one free child with one adult admission. Normal admission is $8 for an adult and $5.50 for children (3-12). We could use two coupons - 2 adults, 2 kids. So the entry was $16.
The zoo starts with immediate kid attractions that are extra - a "train" that is $3 a passenger and a carousel that is $2 for a 2 minute ride. We opted for the carousel but not the train.
The layout of the zoo starts with a bird exhibit - flamingos, whooping cranes ducks, geese, etc. Alligator exhibit closed due to cold temperatures. Next is native Texas animals - turkeys, mountain lions, otters, bobcats. The reptile house was closed due to Covid, but there were two small outdoor exhibits with a small boa and turtles. This opens up into a large enclosure for capybaras. Follow the flow of traffic to a jaguar. The larger animals that kids will probably be more excited about is toward the back - giraffes, a rhino, lions, and camels. They have a giraffe feeding experience for $5 using lettuce leaves. Monkeys are sprinkled here and there. There is a Madagascar coming attraction under construction. As you circle back around, they have a Caribbean exhibit featuring tropical birds, frogs, amphibians, and a two-fingered (two-toed) sloth.
We did visit the gift shop, and I felt they had a good selection of souvenirs, inexpensive to more costly. We left with a $13 plush jaguar and 3 postcards to send to grandparents.
The zoo is located inside a large park area. There is a playground not far from the entrance, a splash pad (during warmer weather), a walking track around a pond, and a dog park. If you're coming from the east side of town on Hwy 36 or Loop 322, the entrance is immediately after crossing under the bridge of Loop 322. Be ready.

Even with social distancing and Covid restrictions, we enjoyed a lovely and remarkably cool cloudy August morning at the Abilene zoo. Some areas were closed or under construction which wasn’t a huge setback for us since the entry fee is quite reasonable. The highlight is the interactive giraffe area where we were “photobombed” by a hungry giraffe looking for the lettuce leaves that you can purchase to feed them. Other great exhibits were the cougars, the lion and gorgeous birds. Small and intimate, kid-friendly, with great views of the animals!

Enjoyed the many animals! Animals were active during our morning visit. It is possible to feed giraffes which is wonderful to watch. Really enjoyed being outdoors during COVID on a holiday weekend. Staff members were available to answer questions also. Thank You Abilene Zoo Staff!

Been there with my kids before back then it was worth it now not so much it was hot and very uncomfortable at times

An excellent zoo, I have zero ideas for improvement! We had very young children with us and they were entertained throughout the trip to this zoo. Many different activities and something neat to see around every corner. We loved all of the cute photo op spots with pretty Fall decorations! The train ride was fun too! There were no bad odors and unkempt looking animal enclosures. Very well laid out and not too taxing for the elderly in our party to walk through either with lots of shaded benches to sit and rest. Great time was had by all. This is a great add on activity to the Frontier Texas museum.

This is a great place to come for a relaxing day, youngsters and adults. It's clean and the exhibits continue to be updated. Amazing zoo in a small town.

Took our grandkids and for a small zoo it had a lot of animal exhibits and was just right for a short day tour. Grounds seemed to be kept well and views of animal pens great for smaller children, well worth taking a family to.

We love going to the Abilene Zoo! The new giraffe exhibit is absolutely amazing and you are still able to feed them which makes this zoo a big hit for many people.

We love this zoo, and have a family membership. I take my toddler a few times each week and love how varied the zoo is, while still being "small" enough to easily navigate without being overwhelmed. We could easily go see the "gafs" (giraffes) or any animal quickly if my toddler requests, without having to haul around a huge location. We always leave feeling refreshed and happy with the great outing - rather than burned out and exhausted as we often do after visiting larger zoos. I love big zoos on special occasions but this one is PERFECT for the mid week outing when the toddler needs something more exciting than the backyard! The new exhibits and obvious investment to make it better are getting better and better. I just wish they'd post signs about the specific animals and their names/stories at each exhibit! I know we become attached and grieve when we lose an animal - but isn't that the point??

Overall it was a good zoo. I wish that they had more attractions such as rides and maybe some more food options but overall it was very nice

This place is truly a West Texas treasure. Living in Midland, we don't exactly have a huge offering of places to take the kids for a day trip getaway. So we were ecstatic to find the Abilene Zoo to be such a top-notch facility! The giraffe exhibit was by far the family favorite. Being able to look out from the pavilion - and even feed the giraffes lettuce leaves - was the highlight of our trip. We can't wait to come back!

A good leisurely afternoon trip around Abilene will give you the best of faunas in Texas and most of the rest of the world. Great family experience.

Very small, but plenty to do and see for an afternoon or morning. I recommend the train first to get an idea of what is on site. There's an area you could "pan for gems" which was fun. Clean bathrooms and a fair price.

The Abilene Zoo is full of exhibits! Its small footprint does not feel small as you go from one section of the zoo to the next section. It really is well laid out!
My teenager and I had a great time photographing the animals. The animals are well taken care of and the grounds are superbly landscaped. The animal exhibits are done with the animals and visitors in mind, so it is a very enjoyable experience.
They have a small trackless train that gives you a general overview of the zoo for a reasonable rate. It’s like a fancy golf cart and we thoroughly enjoyed it! They also have paddle boats available when weather and wind (below 15 mph) permits.
You can purchase lettuce leaves for the giraffes or fish food (bring a few quarters for the fish dispenser). Both are fun! The giraffe area is a major highlight of the zoo and is a very nice exhibit.
It took us two hours to view all the animals. It has a nice walking surface and we thoroughly enjoyed all the animals, all the exhibits and all our interactions with zoo personnel.

Great zoo not too big not too little. The staff are very helpful. plenty of places to just sit and visit. The grandkids LOVE this place. We come at least 4 times a year.

Folks in Abilene have a really nice zoo with plenty of exhibits and special animals. Feeding giraffes was a huge hit with their ling black tongues! The cougars and rhino were impressive and our grandchildren loved the reptile house. There is also a nice Texas house full of local critters. A neat train & merry go round make this zoo complete for families.

I met my 3 1/2year old autistic granddaughter with her mother at the Zoo specifically to see giraffes and we called and asked again before purchasing at entrance and again we were assured the giraffes could be seen, however it became clear that either the welcoming staff is not informed or updated or we were purposely deceived just to get our money and I believe the latter. The rest of the zoo was ok but limitted and did not see any friendly or informed personnel along the path and found the fresh lemonade stand girls attitude and personality even more sour then the lemons. The lady at the carousel was the nicest person there and of course the gift shop employees were rather nice to me, I dropped over $100 for souvenirs that included a $36 stuffed giraffe! The Zoo needs to inform their visitors if certain animals and exhibits are not going to be available!

I have a four year old and the zoo was perfect size where she could see and interact with all the animals without being too big that she couldn't make it through. The staff is very friendly and helpful! They have wagons and scooters there for rent very cheap as well as a train ride and feeing giraffes. I give this a 5 star rating for young children.

Get ready for the time of your life at the Abilene Zoo! From the unique entrance sign to the famous giraffe exhibit, the visitor I'd never bored. Flamingos and turtles, lions and zebras, and buffalo and snakes, you will have an educational and fun experience! Don't miss this must-see Abilene favorite!

The Abilene Zoo is remarkably well stocked, well organized, and well kept. It's the best zoo I've seen for a city with a population less than 120,000.

This is a smaller zoo but has a great variety of exhibits. The walking is easy as it is pretty flat and wheelchair assessable ( you can also rent chairs but they need to be pushed by someone else ). There are many water fowl with magnificent colors, reptile display , etc. It was quite chilly and windy the day we went so many of the warm climate animals were inside ( with no viewing access) making it a bit disappointing but understandable. The food concession stand only has " junk" food and quite limited. Great little gift shop . There is also a dog park outside the zoo area and large children's play area.

We have been to a lot of zoos throughout the state and also up into Canada. The recent changes bring even more natural environments and more is in the works. Frequent live music shows give a combination of a show along with the zoo critters who put on their own shows.
Feed the fish and be amazed at the fascinating sight of their feeding frenzy. Stop by the newly improved giraffe exhibit and visit the buildings housing snakes and Texas native animals.
If you want to ride through the park, there are now two small trains and have been changed to let adults comfortably ride through the park. Bring a picnic or buy goodies at the snack bar. Rent one of the new swan peddle boats for some fun on the lake
Season passes are best value. Good at numerous zoos and give discounts at the zoo store. You will even have some complimentary passes for guests and receive a mailed copy of the zoo news which contains fascinating animal articles.
Just outside of the zoo is a dog park, a nice lake and splash pads, playgrounds and shaded picnic spots.

I was surprised by the amount of exhibit. Very clean and friendly place with no waiting anywhere on a hot summer's day. I'd recommend it for a family outing.

We were spending the night in Abilene and decided to come a little early to visit the zoo. It’s a smaller zoo, but the exhibits were nice and clean, and the volunteers and keepers were friendly. My kids enjoyed feeding the giraffes. We spent about an hour and a half walking around and then more time in the gift shop. Food options were limited to one concession stand and some drinks/sweets in the gift shop (we ate lunch before we went, but my kids wanted ice cream and drinks). Overall a fun visit!

If you're looking for a great zoo that is just the right size for people with disabilities and children that is clean, neat, easy to navigate but has a great variety of animals, with friendly, informative workers, this is the zoo for you. Nice gift shop and reasonably priced.

It was a great zoo very clean and friendly staff. Had a train ride that took you around the zoo. Carousel for the small kids. It was small but they are working on making it bigger!

I have visited a lot of very good zoos over the years and my visit to the Abilene Zoo was one of the best. I took 3 grandsons and they had a great time. Lots of animals to see, easy to walk around, clean, and staff very friendly. Highly recommend a visit.

For a small town in central texas this is not a bad zoo at all. The kids had a blast. It took a couple of hours to go through and see everything. Price is great. Plenty of restaurants in abilene to eat at. It was a pleasent experience. Doesn't compare to the fort Worth zoo but once again this is small town texas.

This is worth a stop if passing through Abilene. The only zoo in west Texas! A highlight is the new Giraffe exhibit. My grandchildren always want to go when in town. Their favorites are the lions, monkeys, reptile house, tiger and now the new paddle boats that look like swans.

This is an excellent small zoo. They do have extra things for chiidren to do throughout the year. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful!!!

The Abilene Zoo is a pretty good one considering the size of the town. They are always working to improve it and its prize centerpiece is the Giraffe exhibit where you can feed them lettuce. Mind you, they charge an exorbitant price for the lettuce and have specific rules - no tearing the lettuce into smaller pieces, no bringing your own. I understand the need to pay for the project, but let's be realistic. Still, it's worth the trip to visit the zoo.

The giraffes are a main draw to this zoo. The giraffe exhibit has been greatly updated and more giraffes added. It is more of a money-maker now and I didn't enjoy it as much as when it was a "feeding bridge." However, the educational part has been expanded and the staff tells more about the different types of giraffes.
Some other exhibits related to vegetation and insects were also on the grounds which I hadn't see before.

I mostly travel through Abilene. I love the zoo area. If you're passing through on a rep this is a fabulous place to stop and Abilene can be tricky about that. The zoo is fun. It's smaller and you can get through pretty fast. You can feed the giraffes it is awesome. Next to the zoo is an excellent playground in a park and a splash park in the Summer. For summer traveling families I recommend this as a great stop.

Our family went to the zoo over Easter at the beginning of the season unfortunately the giraffe exhibit wasn't open but what they have done is amazing the zoo was well laid out where you can see domestic and conserved wildlife all at once. The pathways are always clear you can get close enough to the animals to really enjoy their beauty . I especially like the bird exhibit with the flamingos & toucans monkeys and the very large alligator the staff was friendly and informative although the administration should look into expanding their staff these poor kids looked like they were stretched out they always have a smile on though. If you ask them a question they would stop what they were doing and gladly answer it. All the animals looked healthy and if you read their bios they have been with the zoo for a very long time. I understand the zoo has gotten bad press but if you read about the animal at the zoo ( the truth not the news) and ask the staff every animal I inquired about has been with them for an extended period of time and has well surpassed their life expectancy excellent job for a zoo that works on a city budget worth the trip can't wait to go back. Thank you for the hard work and the compassion you share with all these amazing creatures ... their beauty alone is worth the trip.

This zoo is small enough to finish in 2 hours, yet it has great animals. It has the best giraffe exhibit you will ever see in an ordinary zoo. I found coupons in the Abilene Coupons brochure at my hotel. My family of 6 paid $22 for entry.

Great place to spend time with grandkids. Landscaping is beautiful and staff is wonderful. Feeding the giraffes is a highlight

When we came to visit this was one of our first stops. It was very fun. A bit small but there was a lot to do. They have a train ride for $2 You can find the Giraffes, that was $4 for three leaves. You can feed the fish, it was a lot of fun.

This is a very nice little zoo. It's not very big - you can see everything in about 2 to 3 hours - but it's well maintained and pretty diverse. The exhibits make it easy to see the animals and they appear well cared for. The giraffe exhibit is certainly a hit with kids because you get to feed them (for an extra fee, which is a little pricey - $4 for three leaves of lettuce). It's pretty inexpensive to visit - my daughter and I visited for less than $14. They have a small snack bar with a decent menu (and also reasonable prices) as well as a nice gift shop. As a bonus, outside the zoo there is a very nice playground nearby with a water splash pad.

Over all it was a good time. I have a toddler and he was so amazed by all the different animals especially the giraffes! Loved the train that took you around the zoo. Made many memories.

The Abilene zoo really can't compare to some of the big city zoos. That being said, it is a nice zoo and worth a visit. We enjoyed the afternoon and I wouldn't mind coming again.

Parking is free and the admission is also very reasonably priced. They have an exhibit where you can feed giraffes which is just awesome. My daughters love the reptiles and Texas exhibits. It's also nice that there's a nice park and even a splash pad within walking distance. We've gone to all of them in the same day which you know kids love!

This is zoo is perfect for families with children. There is a wide variety of animals and there are also some indoor exhibits. These are great on hot days to escape the heat. They have a new giraffe exhibit & are constantly adding new animals. They also have extra things for the kids to do like a sand pit, mining for jewels, and a train ride through the zoo. Worth the visit!

This zoo was better than I expected. It was well kept with a large variety of animals. We had a great time.

This small town zoo was a nice surprise. It had everything that the big zoo’s have plus the staff was very friendly and pleasant to help you. Took our college age son and had great time.

I love our zoo! We have a new baby Giraffe and it is a girl!
She has a special name. I cant pronounce it . But it fits her personality. If you have no been to the zoo in Abilene, TX you should go.

My favorite place in Abilene to visit! We love feeding the giraffes and seeing all of the unique animals!

We brought our family here today from about 180 miles away. It was WORTH the trip! The facility is very clean, the animals look well cared for, and the price is great. Get the train tokens and take the tour first. I have hundreds of photos from today alone. The zoo was VERY busy today, and the staff were all courteous, fast, and professional. The enclosures are nice and large. With a regular DSLR camera and 55mm lens you can focus through the first fence and get clear beautiful photos. The exhibit houses are clean and dark so you can really see the animals inside. I enjoyed this trip so very much!

We love this little zoo. Takes about two hours to see all the animals. All the animals are well cared for. Clean park, next to a man made lake. Extras include a train that drives you through the zoo with a little tour ($2 per person, ages 2 and under free) and a carousel ($2 each). They just opened a feed the giraffes exhibit, and that was $4 for 3 leaves. We went memorial weekend, and it wasn't that busy. There are coupons that your can print to lower your cost, but it's a great deal no matter what. Very reasonably priced for everything.

Abilene zoo is a great place for a peaceful walk, for a city the size of Abilene this zoo has many species to learn about.

We love the zoo. We bought the year membership so that we can go frequently. My young kids love it and never get tired of it. It's a safe place to let them run out some energy!

This is a must see when in Abilene. It's just big enough to have most any animal you want to see (except elephants, none of those at this zoo). The giraffe exhibit is a highlight and gets you up close and personal with the animals. For $4 you can feed the giraffes (3 lrg leaves of lettuce). The newest additions and are the swan paddle boats and they cost $4/person for a 30 minute ride. Riding the little train costs $2/person and you need to buy tokens when you purchase your admission. Same with the carousel, $2/person and tokens needed. The zoo is fairly easily navigated and can probably been seen in 2-3 hours.
From A to Z a great zoo! No matter the size of the town. The City folks have done a tremendous job of building a great Zoo.
