We spent the day in Allentown today and we went to the America on Wheels Museum, we all thought it was very enjoyable. The layout was really nice and well worth the money. We wanted to give a shout out to a wonderful lady who works there, Ms Jane Grove. She is super knowledgeable about everything to do with the exhibits and very easy to talk to.She obviously loves what she does and it shows. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something interesting to do. I could see that kids love this as well. The kids cars were wonderful to see and made me remember a petal car of my own.

A beautiful display of vehicles along with a room showing the restoration process. They also have a lot of "hands on" things for the children and a revolving display on the second floor. That what makes it worth returning.

By Suebeep |

Absolutely fascinating display of floors of beautifully preserved vintage vehicles. We adults loved it, but so did our grandchildren who wandered for hours looking at cars they could only dream of!
Anyone living or visiting in the area should make a point of visiting this extremely well done museum.

Nice array of autos from the last 100 years. Exhibit constantly changes. Cafe was closed:( gift shop on site. Plant to spend 2 hours.

By Mary P |

When you walk in ask about the history of the building, and you may be surprised to learn its origins. There were exhibits for all ages, and staff very willing to speak with you
about all of them. My young grandchildren were not impressed by the "old" cars but
loved being able to go inside a Mack truck cab and pretend to drive. Fire engines were another hit. Unfortunately there was a private party so we could not visit the cafe. This was a big disappointment both for the kids and me. The interior looked like a fun place to have a root beer float.

Took a mixed group of first and third graders. Exhibits in good order and very interesting. I would budget 2 - 3 hours. Seasonal trains were a big hit with the kids.

Wonderful time with the family, each having a different car they were interested in, traveling back in time. A great selection of old and restored cars and trucks to tell the story of transportation.

This is a tiny museum for its type, as you'd expect for its location, and thus it's an intersting place to spend a few hours if you're into transportation history. A few of the exhibits, notably the pedal cars and the temporary display of exotic cars are quite good. The balance of the museum is rather dull, and the exhibit placards are very difficult to read due to awkward placements near the floor and tiny font sizes. In addition, some displays are badly in need of updating; the hybrid technology display in particular is ancient and a thinly-veiled product placement for Toyota at the expense of domestic auto manufacturers who now produce more efficient and less expensive vehicles. Minor quibbles like this aside, AoW is a nice addition to downtown Allentown and has plenty of convenient parking.

I really enjoyed this museum of transportation. America on Wheels has a lot to offer car buffs as well as your average person. It is very interesting to see all the cars from different time periods. But not just cars! Motorcycles, children’s toy cars, trucks, and even an old time fire engine! Every exhibit has a written description and details in front of it so your not left guessing the make and model and history. There is much to see and the 1950’s malt shop at the end of self-guided tour was a perfect ending. Also there is a nice little gift shop for souvenirs. I bought a nice T-shirt and an America on Wheels shot glass. I would recommend this museum for all. It is an inexpensive outing that the whole family can enjoy.

I came to the America On Wheels Museum as part of a group. This place is worth taking a detour for if you've got some time and an interest in motor transportation and its history. There's plenty of free parking in a lot right next to the museum building. Docents met our group and provided tours and explanations of the exhibits and displays. The museum layout was clever, and it utilized the available space well. Due to the long history of Mack Trucks in Allentown, you'll hear a great deal about that marque and its contribution to the area's economy and prestige. The museum provides a glimpse of alternative fuel concepts and a few of the vehicles that make use of them. There's a second floor exhibit hall where special exhibits are displayed, and of course these will change from time to time. I especially enjoyed the display on antique auto restoration that conveyed a sense of the steps and hierarchy of the restoration process.

Museum had a wide range of cars, trucks and even vintage construction trucks. The staff is very kind and happy to answer any questions. The museum 50's diner has a restored soda fountain and a vintage hubcap Christmas tree. This museum is a must see.

We were absolutely surprised by this museum. I was expecting just a few cars sitting around that would be fun to look at but instead we were treated to a very new and modern building with absolutely gorgeous cars set in very realistic mock settings. We visited a car museum in Greenwich NY a couple of years ago which was phenomenal so I wasn't expecting anything close to it but except for the fact that it didn't have as many autos this museum in many ways was even better. Even my 87 year old mother in law enjoyed herself and non of us are real big auto buffs. A really nice cross section of autos and motorcycles. So even if you are mildly interested in either autos or history this is a fun way to have a neat day trip. Also, The staff was so nice and very helpful. Thank you Linda for the time you spent with us. Will be back!

I saw the car museum in Hershey the day before this one. And the one in Hershey is top notch. But I liked this one better. This one doesn't have as many pristine cars that are 100 years old but look like they were just made last week. There aren't as many cars to drool over. But in a way, that makes it more manageable.

But what this museum does do is differentiates themselves from the rest. For instance, they had an exhibit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and how it was ahead of the interstate system and how roads like it and the automobile changed America.

They had a car technology of the future portion so as not just to dwell on classic cars of yesteryear.

They had a 12 stage restoration exhibit showing how a car is restored. This had everything from picture taking and documentation to how chrome is restored to how interiors are restored and more. They used an old Hupmobile that was a "barn find" to show a pre-restoration model and they used that same model Hupmobile fully restored to show what could be done. It's really an impressive display.

They also have rotating exhibits like most car museums. It really is a great museum.

We loved this today, great value for money. Picked up a coupon in the front door area and got but one get one free.

The staff is friendly, and the cars are worth photographing

There's an old soda shop as well but it was sadly closed when we visited.

Great place to go to get out of the rain or other unwelcome weather. All indoors.

By Sherrie G |

I learned so much about cars, trucks, trains and even some made for movie cars. This was a wonderful stop on our weekend trip in the Allentown area.
I would recommend highly!

By Sam T |

the exhibit was interesting, smaller that I wish but done very well, the highlights ,to us, were the old toy peddle cars and the T Bird collection. If your looking for a nice sunday drive this is the place and more to do in the Allentown area.

By T0beys |

This place is so great to take out of town guests, they are all impressed. It doesn't matter if you are 8 or 80 you will enjoy the displays. One of the most reasonably priced activities in the area. My grandsons and I go every year for the train exhibit. The volunteers who answer questions, etc. are always willing to spend time explaining things to you.

By christigpa |

Lovely museum, have been three or four times with my two sons over the last few years. The cars and trucks are pretty cool! Even better is the Christmas train display. Free parking in adjacent lot is a plus.

Happy to support America on Wheels!

By alp007 |

Seeing the old cars and the train displays brought back memories for us. The displays were very nice, the cars were beautiful. And it was informative, too.

By Frank R |

Stopped by for an afternoon visit. There was ample free parking and few visitors on the day we went. The museum offers several discounts and we took advantage getting a two for one admission. There are no maps available to guide you and when we asked where we should start we were told anywhere you want, If you go I suggest just keep turning left and you will see everything. The displays included small racing cars, trucks, antiques and some peddle cars. A very interesting eclectic collection. Plan on an hour or two to see everything

By Patti T |

My three-year-old son and I had a couple of hours free, so we went to this Museum. It's small enough for him not to lose excitement over and there's a lot of different displays that he was able to enjoy. Also keep and I out for special events and displays. We happened to be there on a weekday as they were setting up for the Transformers visit. It was great fun! :-)

By Boobookittykitty |

Went here as a family with a 2.5-year-old and infant. Toddler loved going in some of the cars and riding the semi truck. They even had some kids activites to keep him entertained. He liked viewing cars up close and loved the guitars on display with the cars.
Diner was closed only open certain times of year. Lots of free parking.

By Ron S |

I have always appreciated the classic cars and this Museum has a huge selection of all types of cars. Sport , antique and one of a kinds. Visit at you own pace. No rush. There are also motorcycles and trucks.they go over the history of the vehicle and have pictures to go along with it.

By goin_south78 |

My family enjoys cars so I thought it would be great to take them here. I loved the history and they layout. Wish it was bigger. The price is a little much I feel for here, but sometimes coupons are available. Loved the old cars, and the big trucks, and the other interactives they have. Such as bulldog contests and such. If they change it up a bit, I would visit again.

By Cheryl A |

Well done display of automotive history. A way to spend an enjoyable couple of hours if you're in the area. Great for car enthusiasts, but I don't think it's especially young child friendly.

By Doreen G |

I have been here at least twice, they have a standard museum experience, and sometime there are special exhibits. They are all very nicely done and admission is inexpensive. It is seldom very busy so it can be a really nice experience, you can take your time and browse through at a leisurely pace.

By Frank B |

While this museum has either a limited or no permanent vehicle collection, it provides an excellent venue for both car collectors to exhibit and car enthusiasts to enjoy the cars on display.

The show going on in May 2019 included cars from the Bulgari collection (Hudson, Lincoln Zephyr, Nash, Nash Healy and others - on the second floor. A unique Henney hearse from the late 1920's is flanked by a fully restored Graham Shark nose and a Graham barn find that is totally un-restored.

As could be expected in Allentown, PA (birthplace of Mack truck), there is a comprehensive Mack truck display. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Another unique feature to the museum is the soda fountain bar that was dismantled from a former Rexall Pharmacy in Indiana and reassembled in this museum.

By LinRaysTravels |

I keep wanting to go back but somehow don't find the time. I thouurly enjoyed my visit and found the museum a outstanding palce to see vintage vehicles and more. All the personal are pleasant and helpful in answering any questions that you might have about their displays. I highly recommend a visit!!

By Laurence K |

We went to the museum as part of a charity event and didn't expect too much and really enjoyed it. Especially the room where they explain how they rehabilitate the old cars. The cafe was really near too. Easy parking and friendly staff.

By Willy |

We love cars and trucks. Especially older models. Our visit to the museum was much more than we expected. The two volunteers that offered excellent information for the vehicles and the buildings were outstanding. Very knowledgeable. I will definitely be going back again. Our visit included a visit to the restoration shop across the street Another very informative and enjoyable place.

By Dutchsausage |

This place is really neat if you have any interest in any type of early automobiles. A lot of history in a small place. Stuff you won't see anywhere else

By Michael I I |

I brought 45 students and teachers from a NJ high school, everyone had something great to say about the museum. Most had no idea of the early beginnings of the automobile and seemed to find the information very interesting. As a car nut I couldn't get enough. I was blown away by the electric Detroits and how they look a lot like the concept cars we see at the latest international shows.

By Theresa D |

A great museum devoted to the automobile, but not something that you need to visit more than once in a while (unless there is a special event going on). Small children will love seeing the cars on display.

By Sharon R |

We had family visiting from out of state and discovered this wonderful museum while searching for something to do. We all enjoyed the nostalgic look at vehicles from the past. The museum is well kept, clean and organized. Very nice display upstairs to celebrate 70 years of Corvette. The staff was very friendly and provided lots of information and interesting stories to go along with some of the vehicles. Overall, an enjoyable visit to a unique museum.

By janet k |

This car museum is a hidden gem in Allentown, Pa. is located in the shady part of town but well worth the visit. Spent 1.5 hours here, the staff is very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend.

By OnAir20863958395 |

Looked looking at the antique cars. Lots of memories get evoked. I enjoyed it much more than I expected.

By Rosanne Ramunni |

Loved this museum. Collections are eye-catching and informative. Layout and arrangement is party and well done. Great interactive room that features a mechanics station where kids can "change" tires, add oil, etc. Absolutely loved the display of car-related purses. Wish they had them for sale in gift shop! Bring your own lunch or snack and eat in the cute cafe. Admission prices are reasonable and AAA discount is honored. Employees are very friendly and helpful. Neat place ....a hidden gem in the Lehigh Valley. 👍👏😀

By Pavan P |

This place is a GEM for car crazy lovers. This place is the heart of the American Automobile history. This takes us to the inventions, hardwork, creativity, innovations & all sorts of experiments performed to give us the super CARS of today. Else we would have still been in the stone age :). For me or any car lover, this is a must must place.

By DRose517 |

The museum is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, particularly for classic car enthusiasts. While some of the displays (e.g. hydrogen-fuel cars, bicycle food-delivery drivers) are dated, the museum boasts some local historical treasures. Visitors likely will spend most of their time on the first floor. The second floor has a rotating display, as well as a library and a fascinating section on what is needed to restore a classic vehicle. Throughout the museum, there are interactive activities for children. In December, there are model trains and a Lego display. The museum has a parking lot. We visited on a week day, and it wasn’t crowded.

By Barbara M |

I've been here twice with visitors to Allentown. They and I have loved it both times. Great exhibits, very impressive. The first time the major exhibit was very early cars; the second time, cars of the 1950s. But in addition to the major exhibit, there are other exhibits showcasing cars of different eras and other vehicles such as Mack trucks and antique fire engines. Great place for both adults and children.

This review is a little outdated, sorry.
My family and I went here over Christmas vacation to see the model train exhibit. We were pleasantly surprised with the museum and my son loved the model train exhibit. We had a coupon for admission, which was nice, and the price was very reasonable. We look forward to going back.

By Mary_Kay1965 |

I am not a huge classic car enthusiast but I still found it interesting to read the stories about the cars and to look at so many beautiful classics. It’s worth the stop just to show appreciation for the American Automobile.

By Mike S |

If you like cars make a stop here. Currently pony cars on on display till the fall. Cars are on loan from classic car collectors. These cars are still in working condition.

By Tania S |

This cute little museum was a great way to spend an hour or two. They have models of the very first cars and the history of what led up to it. Definitely recommend!

By Elijah W |

My daughter, 2 "tween" girls and I spent a few hours here and enjoyed looking through their collection. We did not know that Mac Truck started in Allentown! Very nice interactive activities for the girls. The "woodies" in their rotating exhibit were beautiful.

By justpeachy48 |

A cool little gem in downtown Allentown, this museum was a pleasant surprise with vintage vehicles of every description. The displays are well done and more plentiful than you would expect. There's everything from antique bikes to WWII motorcycles, to Mack trucks and even an amphibious car! Admission is extremely reasonable and if you are a AAA member, you get a twofer! Kids will love sitting in the driver's seat of a real Mack truck. Another bit of nostalgia is the 50s era soda fountain. Although they do not actually "jerk" sodas as in the old days, the ambience is there. Weekends there may be a "celebrity" behind the counter. If you are in the over 55 crowd, be sure to ask for your soda to be made with seltzer to get the taste you remember from childhood!

By Robert L |

This place is OK. Thought it would be more like the Corvette museum. We went through it pretty quick. Wish there was more to see. I am not into older cars though. My friend thought it was good.

By 743michaelh743 |

Visiting for first time before Christmas holiday we had the good fortune to have the train display operating since a volunteer was present at time when it normally is not scheduled. Granddaughters (3 girls) loved all the displays. Very enjoyable afternoon.

By PAm0m0f3 |

It had been several years since our last visit to American On Wheels, but we hosted my son's birthday party there a week ago. it was a great venue for 10-year-old boys! The Hubcap Cafe was charming and provided plenty of room for our guests. The boys enjoyed their tour (although it got a little too long for some boys - attention spans of little boys aren't always the best), and LOVED racing cars down the ramp! The museum staff was pleasant and accommodating. My son wants to return to spend more time in the exhibits soon.

By cjd3i |

This little museum is a fun place to visit. It brings back childhood memories of cars with fins, cars with style. Lots of nostalgia!

By Glenncca |

Was in the area and able to visit this great museum. Great volunteers! Very interesting, well displayed exhibits, many related to Mack Trucks. Even riding out the tornado alert did not detract from our visit!

By Kathleen D |

This museum is a pleasant surprise. Cars are fantastic. Volunteers very helpful. Look for special exhibits to enhance your visit. Good parking.

By philipr430 |

Great tour, friendly staff, interesting, clean bathrooms. Inexpensive cost. Would bring family visiting there again

By 1carguy55 |

Awesome museum. The vehicles displayed are diverse and distinctive: cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, pedal cars, anything with wheels. They vary in age from the beginning of the automobile to current day. The displays and motifs are professionally and tastefully done and contain period correct decorative items. It is a self tour and very easy to navigate through the exhibits, and is family oriented. The feature vehicles at this time are the "Age of Brass". Absolutely magnificent cars from the early 1900's, a by-gone era.

By Chipper M |

We spent a few hours visiting this automotive museum a few months ago. Very happy we did. The displays are rotated often so you will see new displays if you return every so often. You can get on their mail list and they will let you know when they change displays and what is new to the museum. Reasonably prices. They have an in house restaurant so you can eat in a 50s period soda jerk restaurant.

By Lady R |

Great place to go if you really love cars. Mostly antique. But its very interesting place to go if you want to learn the history of cars.

By Wendy M |

As we drove through Allentown I thought where in the world a we going? Not such a great neighborhood but the parking was plentiful. Handicap accessible with an elevator to travel to the 2nd floor. Cars Trucks Muscle Cars Fire Engines and Race Cars. So much to see and learn. The vehicles along with a Tractor Trailer and Antiques Cars was a great and varied static display. Hungry head up to the Hub Cap Cafe. I am sure Fonzie at there. Hot Dogs and Milkshakes. My malt was just as tasty as in the good old days. Take a drive you will throughly enjoy your visit. Holiday Train display to come!

By Cruiser37518943324 |

Visited in December 2024. I had a lot of fun! I loved everything from the train exhibits and all the vintage cars, trucks, bikes, and motorcycles. There was everything from electric cars from the 1890s to the present. The descriptions were really interesting, including not only the technical issues of the cars, but also the social context. This experience was very interesting.

By Ann G |

Terrific for car lovers (well any vehicle really). Not enough interactive stuff to keep kids occupied for a long time, but certainly enjoyable for an hour or so.

By elynnjean |

We visited America on Wheels several times and now have become Members with unlimited visits for an annual fee. The museum is spotless and all the staff are very pleasant and knowledgeable. They hold some special events from time to time which would be a very good time to visit. There is a cafe, but we did not indulge.

By Eugene J |

Had very good exhibitions going on at time of visit in early September. Good stop while in lehigh valley visiting multiple attractions. We were a couple visiting imagine kids and the young at heart will really enjoy.

By Lisa D |

This place was super cool!! My younger boys love cars and were very interested in every aspect of the museum!!

By Bill57687 |

Has a little of everything, good displays of automobiles of all ages, motorcycles, bicycles, and assorted "stuff". Nice library of reference materials. Excellent example of a restoration before and after, that gives you a good idea of the work involved. Nice gift shop. Items on display are in great shape. Enough to drool over.... Old soda shop display. Just very well done all around. Any car buff will really enjoy it. Smaller kids will have plenty to see as well.

By Stephanie F |

We are members of AOW, and we love visiting several times per year whenever they change the upstairs feature exhibit. They have had great themed exhibits such as "woodies" last summer and the current "supercars and guitars." They, also have special invitational events for members like last night's gala, which featured wines, catered food from several area restaurants, and live music performed by local artists on the sponsors' Martin guitars. If you are from the area don't just visit, become a member!

By ksu-ny |

We love to visit the museum when we are in the area. It has nice collection of historic cars, and some interactive exhibits the kids love.

By Fay C |

Got a Groupon coupon and we went today to get out of the house in this snowy weather! It is only an hour drive, but we had never heard of it. We were pleasantly surprised!! Well done, well organized with knowledgeable volunteers

By traveltheworld012 |

Had to check this place out while in town. You pay only $7-10 depending on your age. Not only do they have old cars, but also big trucks, peddle cars, bicycles, go-carts, motorcycles, model trains and a full size service station inside along with much more memorabilia. There is a 50s style cafe on site, but was closed when we were there. Some of my favorites were the electric cars, the Mack trucks and a very unique (model) hotel bus on wheels. This is a very clean and well designed museum. All items and vehicles have great descriptions and information as to their histories. My favorite car is the 58 Corvette. Parking is free.

By iipuffs |

Great displays and good info during self guided tour. The displays and info are well presented and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

By Dave C |

Underwhelming; it has some singular unique vehicles and some nice displays like the early American electric cars, but not really a place to learn a great deal about the evolution of American cars or the classics or popular cars. Rather small, in fact. The gift shop also was not taking opportunity of car-related gifts or items. Admission is $13 per adult, which was a bit much for the small size of this exibit.

By Dale943 |

America on Wheels is a transportation museum in the city of Allentown. It is easily accessible and offers free parking. Cost is moderate. There are permanent touring exhibits. There is a 1950's themed cafe and a gift shop.

The exhibits cover everything on wheels, from peddle cars to fire engines. The examples of early vehicles are interesting.

Its current touring exhibit is about 1920's/1930's art deco design influenced cars. My wife, who has no interest in cars, loved the beauty of these vehicles. They were spectacular.

Grandkids had a good time, too.

By Pam B |

Fun museum to spend an hour or two. It has a rotating display upstairs which featured the "woodies" when I was there. Great to see the vehicles as all were in impeccable condition. Another favorite was the simulated mechanics garage complete with mechanic, vehicle being serviced and gas pumps. Great spot to grab some unique pictures. Good for kids as well.

By Melody F |

As members of America on Wheels Museum, we are able to visit any time and as often as we like. We are never disappointed in the displays, special events and even the manikins are so life like. Bravo to the staff, volunteers for all their time put in to this wonderful place!

By Frank Masters |

We were on a mission to find old reletives who passed on and land marks in Allentown, and added this to the end of day activities.

Admission was cheap or a BOGO if you had AAA, Anyhow, we went on the tour of the place across the street where they restored old cars. Available only on Wednesday and Fridays.
This museum puts a different spin on old cars because there is a lot of history here. Highly recommend if you truly appreciate the past and old vehicles.
Rich Greene was a volunteer and was so knowledegable too. Thank you Rich

By PAfamily07 |

This is a small to medium sized car museum with a "visiting" display that changes from time to time. There are opportunities for children to do a few hands-on items as well. I am not a car buff, but the guys in my family found it interesting. Some coupons are available to reduce admission price as well. This was a nice little rainy day activity. There are plans to revitalize this area but it is a bit isolated right now. It is quite close the Iron Pigs stadium (Coca-Cola Park) by car so it might be a fun afternoon activity to add on to a night at the ball park.

By Sharon C |

We brought our 2.5 yo son here and he loved it. He did want to try and touch every car but luckly there is a race car and a mack truck he was able to sit in. There were also other touch points for him so he had a blast and couldn't get him to leave. We spent about an hour touring the museum and it was a great pairing as we did the Lehigh Valley Zoo in the morning, grabbed lunch then came here. There is a cafe but it closed at 3.

By Sharon S |

When we went the theme was pony cars. They change the theme every 6 months.
We love looking at the older cars and styles. They had some trucks, fire trucks too.
One interesting thing we saw was an older car, maybe the 30's pulling a camper that slept 2. That was interesting. Up on the 2nd floor you saw the pony cars but we also found a cafe that was designed for the 50 and 60's. That was neat with the soda fountain, juke box and tables that had black and white checkered table cloth with 45 record as a center piece. They do serve some food, ice cream and soda. I think it maybe mainly for events. An interesting place to visit.

By COLEVILLE |

Went with family and one 5 yr old. We had a nice time! They were having a special event that day. My niece was very entertained! Special for my niece too because her picture was in the Morning Call the next day!

By Thomas S |

We had to Allentown so many times and never knew this gem was here . We were in town for a car related trip and asked on Tripadvisor what to do in Allentown . Glad we did . We visited on a rainy week day and had a nice quiet visit . You have got to stop in even if you are just passing through . Worth the visit . They moved and old Pharmacy café/dinner and it's open on Saturday's . You can spend a couple of hours . Staff is happy and helpful .

By rcluther |

Had a good time wandering among nicely restored autos. The signs/descriptions were very interesting.

By Tom M |

I've visited several times, and each time find interesting displays of beautiful cars. I like the fact that they rotate different cars on a regular basis. This is an often forgotten jewel of Allentown.

By Sandy S |

What a great place if you like anything on wheels..From Bikes to Vintage Motorcycles (with some crazy sidecars) to cars of all decades to trucks, they have it all!!

Wish the 50s cafe was open when we were there but it closes in the winter..looked like a lot of fun.

The staff was super helpful also

By Jerry T |

We were experiencing Lehigh University Parents Weekend so we took a ride in the Lehigh Valley. We came upon this museum just off Hamilton / Hanover Blvd in Allentown so we decided to stop in. It is small enough to see the whole museum in a short time and there were many volunteers who were willing to answer our questions. They wee very knowledgeable. If. There are many videos to watch. There are a lot of very old cars to enjoy. I would suggest you take an afternoon and visit this gem.

By Lee B |

Very cool place to visit! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, awesome displays of vintage cars, bikes and Mack trucks. Clean, modern, upbeat! Great ice cream too.

By NewYorkLucille |

It was snowing and we wanted to find an indoor activity. Glad we found America on Wheels. From antique to classic to exotic cars, they have it all. Throughout the museum, there are gentlemen who love nothing more than to talk about the cars and the history. A very enjoyable afternoon.

By R J |

If you are a car person and going through the area, this place is certainly worth a visit. There is an ever changing display of some rare and unique cars and trucks. Beautiful backgrounds and a very comfortable environment transport you back in time. There is a real working 50's soda fountain which has limited hours but it's neat to have a malt at the bar or one of the original tables when they are serving.
The museum is kid friendly but please, if you take your kids, be respectful of others and the rare cars. It is a museum, not a playground.
If you enjoy classic and antique cars, I promise you'll enjoy this!

By Retiredtotravel |

Went to America on Wheels to look at the old cars. It brought back great memories.
The cars are in mint condition. The entire exhibit was really wonderful. The old style
soda shoppe was a nice touch. Made you feel you were back in the 50's. My grand-
kids liked the hands on mechanic shop. Nice place, I would recommend it to anyone
who likes seeing old cars.

By wvfriend |

I can’t express how amazing this museum was. So worth the 5+ hour drive. Visited this museum on a weekend they had a car show. The museum was better than the car show. They had a wonderful display of vintage motorcycles. Tons of classic cars. The first horseless carriage. Scooters. Anything with wheels. Even fire trucks and Mac trucks. Across the street was an expansion of the museum of restored classics along with plaques of how much they were worth.

By Missiwanderlust |

Lots to see, hands on for the kids, very interesting and informative. They cover so much stuff, motorcycles, cars, trucks, everything you can imagine on wheels. It's a nice sized museum and lots of things for the kids to do with photo ops and a nice little gift shop.
The have a section upstairs that is an exhibit that changes, although i'm not sure how often. My family and I spent a little over an hour there and do plan to go back after the exhibit changes, maybe over the summer.

By shoetravelers |

We've visited the America On Wheels Museum several times over the years. It's a perfect for an hour or an afternoon. The exhibits are well cared for and the museum floor plan is well laid out. Wide range of cars from all eras. Fun for adults and kids. Ample parking. Definitely worth the visit.

By Dom R |

Features all types of vehicles - following "on wheels" theme. Upstairs exhibit changes every 6 months - next Nov. 2015, check americaonwheels.org
Hubcap Cafe - retro 50s & 60s ice cream parlor with malteds, ice cream floats, egg cream sodas. Juke box with 45s. Bring quarters. Open weekends by volunteers 12-3. Expanded hours in summer.
Call for details before you go. A treat for the whole family.

Great place to walk threw if you enjoy classic cars. My husband was so excited to see the different exhibits. It was a little much for the little guys (3 and 2) but made it threw especially loving the Mac truck exhibit!
Good rainy day activity

We loved this place! We were heading to this area for Vacation and were looking on Groupon for things to do. We found one for America on Wheels ($8 for two admissions). We bought it thinking that for $4 per person we would at least have an afternoon with something to do.

It's not an overly large place but has ample parking, and a couple of hours is really all you need. We really enjoyed seeing the older cars....Model T, horseless carriage era and reading about the different ways of defining who invented the first car.

In one area there was a family car set up with an early pull along camper. As we were traveling in our new (much larger) pull along camper this was especially interesting to us. How they all fit in that tiny thing is something to ponder.

Upstairs there is a changing exhibit of pony cars. Very beautiful to see them all in one place.

The staff was friendly and helpful.

Over all we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the museum. We recommend this place to others.

Visited on first Thursday of the month, when senior citizens are FREE! Very nice exhibit for all ages, even wives who aren't necessarily crazy about cars - cute toys, old fashioned pedal cars, history of old cars, some Hess Trucks - bicycles, motorcycles and very friendly and informative staff!! Even though we were free - left a donation.... very enjoyable time!

America on wheels is a nice place to go too with family and kids. For those car enthusiast its really cool. I have been there more than once.

By FWDpost |

This museum of classic cars is housed in the most spectacular and modern of buildings, including two-story high rooms, plenty of truck lovers (Mack) exhibits, plus very early car examples. It's the real thing and won't break the bank.

By Joanne L |

My husband and I are car enthusiasts, and this museum does not disappoint! They have everything from a Model T to muscle cars to odd ones we never heard of. There are toy displays, as well as posters, framed advertisements, license plates and other memorabilia. But it's not just cars -- there are bicycles, motorcycles, a fire truck, Mack tractor trailers, etc. The information placards are easy to read (not boring), and the restoration process exhibit is really interesting! Cool part is almost all cars are still owned by local folks -- just on display in this one big building. Probably the only drawback was I didn't notice any outdoor signage when we circled the block -- name of the place is on the building! We really enjoyed our visit.

By martinirock |

We had a great time there. All the different cars were really interesting and there was history with each car. They had staff throughout the museum that could answer your questions. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in cars.

By LouRod17 |

We found this museum via a Groupon. The museum is nice, very clean, easy to find, parking along the side of the museum and not too large. The two story building has a mix of cars, trucks, motorcycles and toys. We enjoyed our visit and think kids would love it. The folks that work there are extremely friendly.

Our only complaint is the cafe is closed for the winter months. It looked like a cool 50s style place to eat.

By Michael B |

May 2017: We go here a number of times a year. Get to see some great cars. The bottom shows do not change that much. The upper floor repair area has new cars every few months. All kinds of cars, motorcycles and pedal cars. For the past many months the downstairs has remained the same. Nice for the kids, but it's not a "touch me" place. Gift shop and they have some activities for the kids (check their calendar). After here we usually go out and do a few more activities, then find somewhere for dinner. There is a 50s dinner upstairs with a very limited menu. But the place runs on volunteers, so don't count on it. Check their calendar.

Been to the reunion twice. always great to meet the drivers I grew up cheering for, some of which my dad and father in law raced against. Museum is well priced and the guides were informative. I don't remember when it was....Nov. I think?

By sandra j |

it was a nice little drive in the country and a nice little museum. they had many old cars even old motorcycles.... nice period artwork behind the cars.. a little movie......they could use a snack shop they just had vending machines...what else can I say.. they just weren't lined up in a row they were displayed with blibs regarding the auto/ owner /use etc... interesting ..brought u back to a simpler time.

By cjsquaredancer |

Wonderful displays of old cars, trucks and memorabilia. Well laid out. Entertaining even for young children. History retold .

By charlieschaub@comcast.net |

This a fun place; you never know what's around the corner. One room may be do-it-yourself hot rods, the next pedal cars, and then Mack trucks. We got there too late for the last tour and meandered about on or own. We were making our way to the exit as closing time approached. The guide who was closing up asked us how we liked our visit. We told him we'd have to come back because we hadn't even gotten to see the second floor exhibits. He told us that section would soon be changing and led us up there for a 10 minute beyond closing time tour. You've got to love a place like that. I definitely would like to come back and spent several hours there.

By Kathie L |

The museum overall feels a bit dated but we enjoyed the visit and it was fun connecting with my Dad about cars. Learned about rumble seats and back seats with curtains. Reminisced about his first mustang.
If you find yourself in Allentown with a quiet afternoon, it's interesting but unless you are a car or truck nut, you shouldn't go out of your way to visit.

By catchat105 |

As this is an indoor museum and specific in what it exhibits, it makes for a great rainy day activity. Whether you're an avid car fan or would like to learn about American automotive history, this museum has a lot to offer. Places like this seem to be easily overlooked by those not seeking this specific type of entertainment, but it was indeed an uncommon experience that stands out as a unique memory among other attractions in Allentown. Plus the staff were friendly and showed passion for the exhibits and the history of the museum.

By Tom H |

Exhibits change often but it's kind of sleepy, kinda like walking through a high rise parking lot, not very exciting. That said, if you are a car fan, you might like it!

By Lala_Tink2008 |

This museum in Allentown is worth a look if you are in the local area and at $8 per adult is very good value indeed.

America On Wheels is a small museum which surprisingly though holds a lot of vehicles. It is arranged over 2 floors and will keep you entertained for a couple of hours if you are interested in anything that moves. There are various types of vehicles ranging from bicycles to trucks. Our favourite part of the museum was the 'Mack' trucks display (who we visited earlier in the day and well worth a visit!!) and my Wife got to drive a Mack simulator which she found good fun. On the second floor there was lots of exotic sports cars from the Italian Ferrari's and Lamborghini's to some good old American Muscle!! The renovation centre was interesting too where school kids are taught some things on renovating old vehicles.

Overall this museum is worth a look if you are in the local area. The museum has a café and a well stocked shop and is very easy to navigate. Both my Wife and I would recommend!!

By Embroiderer1966 |

I’m visited with my two sons in their mid 20s. We had such a fantastic time! They loved everything from the train displays, with the nostalgic town set ups, to the cars. There was everything from 1890s electric cars to the present. The descriptions were really interesting, including not only the technical issues of the cars, but also the social context. I highly recommend this.

By Regina L |

Incredible and comprehensive collection of American transportation. The collection includes motorcycles, trucks, and of course cars! This museum has 2 floors which took a little under two hours to visit. There are some neat hands on exhibits for kids. The staff was very friendly and eager to share their knowledge.

By Laurie D |

We love classic car museums and were in the area. What made this experience OUTSTANDING was our tour by Rich. His knowledge of the cars is impressive and he is such a wonderful tour guide. The museum had some great exhibits but it was Rich walking us through the museum and cars that made it come to life for us!

Rich took us over to the Automobile corner of America company. They are a leading car restoration group. One of the owners Al and Rich walked us through their processes with actual cars they are working on. It was so interesting and we learned a lot! There were many examples of heir current projects as well as cars they have finished and are selling. They even showed us the building they restored to house the cars. The cars are gorgeous!

If you love classic cars and want to see an actual restoration happening, definitely do this! I would give it 10 stars if I could all due to Rich and Al!

So much to see! Great displays, good flow, easy to navigate. Fun Cafe. So many treasures hidden in peoples' garages.

By bennybigtime |

As a former allentonian, it was great to see this beautiful, modern museum that I, my dad and aunt all thoroughly enjoyed.
The cars are beautiful but they also have working trucks and firetrucks and a section showing how cars are restored, as well as lots for younger kids.
Really impressive and the price was good, too.
The volunteers are knowledgeable and helpful.

By Susan M |

Easy to find. Good parking lot. Interesting exhibits that change frequently. Elevator for those who need it

By Philip W |

This was somewhat of an afterthought during a half day day of biking the nearby D&L Canal Trail. However, it became the highlight of the day because it is such an excellent museum. It is not a huge place where you need to devote an entire day. A couple of hours should do it, but they will be hours well spent. The volunteers who were working there were very friendly and helpful. They even suggested additional places in the area for our next trip. We especially enjoyed the area devoted to vehicle restoration. It was extremely well organized and informative. They have a lot of video presentations to supplement the posters and other written material. We also enjoyed the display of pedal cars. Pedal cars never excited me before I saw this display - what detail and craftsmanship!! Oh yes, and we took time for milkshakes. They were the real "old fashioned" kind with real ingredients. Took us way back to our youth days.

By barroske |

The museum is in a nice modern building with plenty of parking. Admission is not bad at $8/adult. The museum itself is small. 2 floors but not a lot on display. The 2nd floor is the exhibit area that changes every 6 months. This month was exotic sports cars. A couple of Lamborghini's a Ferrari, etc. The permanent exhibit is on Mack trucks, but there's only one or two.

Overall I was disappointed in the number of cars on display. Very few vintage or even interesting cars. The museum is dark, so photography is challenging unless you use flash. Also the cars are very close together, so not a lot of room to photograph.

The staff (volunteers?) are friendly but a but intrusive. We did not feel comfortable walking around.

Glad i went once, but wouldn't go back

By Liz A |

Having a curator explain and offer interesting information on the vehicles it added so much more to the experience. They also gave military discount for vets. They have a 50's style café that can be rented out for occasions. A really enjoyable outing.

By Michael S |

Great place to visit. Easy to get to and very easy to park. Outstanding exhibit of old trucks and motorcycles. Very interesting. It take about two hours to go thru the museum.

By JulieCrev |

This museum was much bigger than expected! I am not a big car enthusiast but I found the museum interesting enough.

By Susan |

What a gem! We took our 10-year-old grandson who loves old cars and motorcycles. He absolutely loved every minute of being there! Gary was an awesome guide. He really knows a lot about most of the vehicles there and their history. Would definitely recommend for any age.

By Joann V |

I got the tickets as a Groupon, but my children enjoyed it and so did I. We went back again and paid regular price.

By rlwestney |

My Dad came to visit and we decided to visit the museum. AMAZING Corvette exhibit. The folks there were very nice and very knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the museum. Well worth a visit!!

By John W |

Interesting thing to do on a rainy day felt the admission was a little pricey for a regular adult. Staff were nice but collection isn’t that big compared to others.

By Jim W |

Had class reunion in the 50's soda fountain room and enjoyed tour of the museum after words. Great place to muscle cars from the pass.

By Loren H |

When in the Lehigh Valley, you must visit America On Wheels Transportation Museum on Front Street in Allentown! What a fabulous museum with fascinating exhibits of the history of vehicles and transportation in America. It's "Education" for all ages presented in a most "Entertaining" fashion. And the Hub Cap Café, a 1953 soda fountain and grille, offers wonderful ice cream treats and light snacks after your tour. The guides are all very knowledgeable and share their insights into the many exhibits. We always take family and visitors to America On Wheels to see the changing exhibits. Be sure to visit this Allentown treasure on Allentown's developing riverfront!

By JBTheTraveler |

A great under the radar museum that has quite the niche of a collection of vintage vehicles. Really interesting exhibits that are curated in a very nice way, putting them in context while preserving the integrity of the cars or bikes or even Mack trucks. Actually there is an entire room dedicated to Mack trucks-they are truly part of the American Success story. We loved our leisurely visit of a couple hours, and enjoyed our conversations with the extremely dedicated and knowledgable staff.

By 2011keywest |

Went to America on Wheels for a get together with our financial advisor. It was like an open house they had. It was our first time there. My husband is a car fanatic and absolutely loved it. Every 3 months (i think 3) they change the cars on the 2nd floor. The displays are beautiful. They have a restaraunt on the 2nd floor that resembles old times, soda shop style. Black and white checkered floor, juke box and more.

By Rosemary L |

The quality and quantity of the various exhibits was impressive. The teaching / learning set-up on the second floor could inspire a person to actually refinish an old car! The lego train exhibit as well as the large guage (G?) trains were so much fun to watch in action. The presence of docents added to the enjoyment as they were available to address any question. There is even a cafe, although I did not have time to check it out.

By shash48 |

I love to see the selection of cars from the 1920 through the 70's. They have a nice gift shop and a theater. Great place to take the kids on a rainy weekend.

By Richard S |

If you like old cars and bikes this is the place to go when your in the Lehigh Valley, PA. Easy access and parking

By Madeline C |

We decided to check out this museum and it did not disappoint. My husband loves old cars and we loved looking at the cars over the years. But it not only has cars but bicycles, and trucks. In addition, there are some hands on things for the kids .
There is also cute room upstairs that can be rented for birthday parties

By Randolfe Wicker |

Was amazed at what an incredible experience seeing all types of automobiles stretching back to the early 1900s, including fire engines, every type of vehicle you can imagine. Spent several hours and could have stayed even longer without seeing the entire exhibit. Great value for the money. In fact, we were the first customer to use Trip Advisor tickets. I believe it was 2017.

Took a lot of photos.

By matsays |

Went here on a quick visit in Allentown - my 1 year old likes cars and he loved being able to sit in the Mack truck.

By rkjk87 |

I took my family there 2013. My son, who is a marine, was home for the holiday. We took his 3 year old son to the train display...I did think there would be more displays. However, the amount was adequate for a 3 year. The cars on display are quite interesting. Last year, they did have bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots..you got a discount on ticket prices. Since I do live locally, I also see different events throughout the year. This is a must see.

By nels0n73 |

AWE-INSPIRING MUSEUM Very pleasantly surprised of all th exhibits. Could not believe there were 2 floors of all types of over the road type vehicles. They did a fantastic job displaying local businesses vehicles, even had a large display of MACK TRUCKS that are manufactured in the Lehigh Valley. The guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. THIS MUSEUM IS A MUST SEE FOR ANYONE THAT HAS A INTEREST IN "WHEELS". From pedal cars to heavy duty trucks there all on display

By Ellen C |

This is a great museum! We have family in the Allentown area and have been to this museum 3-4 times. It is always a delight -- for the adults and kids. They have a permanent exhibit but change their special exhibitions every 6 months. We've seen cars from the 30's and 40's, 60's and 70's, and this weekend, Nascar racers. They have terrific knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers at the ready to help answer questions and engage you further in this fun experience.

By srss96 |

First visit at the America on Wheels museum, would definitely go back. A lot to look at & didn’t realize how big this place really is. Some really cool things to check out & learn about.

By AnnaMae50 |

We visited on first Friday of October. Since Covid is keeping visitors away, it wasn't crowded. We were given a tour by Rich Greene. This gentleman had a passion for cars and their history. We learned so much about the first Ford vehicles and Hudsons. We also visited across the street at RB Collections where they restore classic cars. Al R. also provided us with information regarding the work they do restoring vehicles. It was fantastic.
If you plan on visiting make sure it's on Wednesday and Friday when Mr. Greene is there. You won't regret it. The museum was great also.

By Lauris N |

Cisited on a whim. This was an inexpensive nostalgic review of the automobile industry, not just cars, but anything on wheels. If you like cars, and history you'll appreciate.

By Chris G |

I really enjoyed the museum, I was disappointed that I had to ask someone to turn on the TVs for even more info. The staff at the front desk were very helpful, I just wished everything was rearing and ready to go (we felt a bit guilty asking!) It was a nice walk down memory lane and even though the Hubcap Cafe was closed, we enjoyed the thought of what was, years ago. Thank you for a neat space and ever-changing exhibits. We look forward to a return visit!

By Fatima R |

This is a neat museum with a very nice collection of unique vehicles really liked it. Spent about an hour but it closed at 3pm on sat so we could have spent a bit longer but they were closing.

By hotsync50 |

If you are into classic cars and history you have come to the right place. Great place and never crowded or any lines. Little hidden gem that more people should go see.

By Jim B |

A good overall park. We really liked the water section. Also don't miss the dinosaur exhibit. We are season ticket holders even though we live on long island. We always make several trips during the year.

By Old-Grapes |

All I can say is WOW ! What a wonderful museum. All the displays of cars, trucks, pedal cars, bicycles, and motorcycles are well laid out and not congested making it a very relaxing visit. We really enjoyed the "Restoration Shop" as it adds another dimension that we have never seen in other Auto Museums. The photos also add tremendously to the interest. When you walk through the door into the Hubcap Café you certainly are stepping back into time. What a great venue ! This museum is a must visit when in the area.

By Ann C |

It was our first visit to the museum, and we were pleasantly surprised! We enjoyed all of the different displays and found the information fascinating! The museum is well maintained and there are activities along the way to entertain children.
We would definitely go back as many of the displays feature items that have been loaned to the museum.

By Don M |

Tucked in along the river in downtown Allentown is this incredible collection of America on Wheels. Great displays, many on loan feature all wheeled modes of transportation from bicycles to pedal cars to dirt bikes to exotic sports cars - they are all here. Seniors admitted free on the first Thursday of every month. I have returned several times to catch the rotating exhibits.

By LynAn09 |

We visited the museum and enjoyed the variety of vehicles. Did a nice job on the displays. Loved the restoration room. Really learned a lot.

By Joe G |

My wife and I on vacation decided to go visit the America on Wheels Auto Museum. When we got there the neighborhood around it needs to be seriously upgraded. The museum itself is in a beautiful building. lots of nice antique cars and interesting information. They need to grow and get some more activities but at the $10 entry fee, you get what you pay for. Our time there was enjoyable.

By Jessica K |

It's a small museum but great if you have kids. There is something different every few months, so look up what,s there before you go.

By SUSAN H |

This was my 2nd visit with my grandson . We truly enjoyed the train exhibits. One big exhibit made from Legos. ....so amazing. We took my husband this time also. He loves cars and trucks so we lost him a few times!

By larpov |

If you have anyone who likes cars, trucks, or trains (trains are a special exhibit at Xmas time), then you will love this museum. My two children are 3 and 1 and both loved coming here to run around between the stacks and rows of pristine cars, and yell TRUCK, when they saw a giant one there as well. There's also an educational center in the second floor to the back, that has a whole bunch of activities, coloring pages, etc. that you can use when you are there. Overall a fun visit

By Jennifer G |

We visited the museum this weekend with our teenage sons and had a great time. The exhibits were very interesting and we all learned more about autos, motorcycles, bikes, and more. This place is a real gem and an asset to the Lehigh Valley. The staff was very friendly and informative. We loved the root beer floats and milk shakes in the Hubcap Cafe! We showed our teenagers a real jukebox as well as a pay telephone booth. A fun and enlightening visit!

By moviepopcorn4 |

America on Wheels is a small, lovely museum. It has everything from bikes, pedal cars, scooters, to classic cars. When we went, the top floor had a display of Thunderbirds which were beautiful. The volunteers were super nice and knowledgeable. The exhibits change every six months so we will definitely be back! It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours with our youngest son who loves cars. You won't be disappointed!

By Just Get in the Car |

It was a hot day during our visit to Allentown, and we decided that we needed a place to visit that would give us some time in air conditioning, and this place fit the bill!

Kids 5 and under were free, which worked for us, and kids 5-16 are only $5. Adults are normally $10 each, but we found a Groupon deal for $9 for both of us (look for a deal before you head in - you can show your purchase to them on the phone). So overall, we got a family museum experience for $14 total.

The staff was very friendly. The man at the front desk engaged the kids and told them about some of the kid-focused activities they had to offer.

There are some big rooms with displays of older model cars, which were cool to look at. They range from the Model T to modern electric cars. Our kids (4 & 6) were not as impressed with that.

They most enjoyed the display on the first floor with the Mack Trucks. There were some large trucks for them to look at, and a number of interactive displays. The biggest hit was a temporary table set up where they could do crayon impressions of license plates - go figure!

This is a reasonably priced museum to visit if you are looking for something to do in Allentown, and are a car enthusiast. For kids the same age as ours, you can get about an hour out of this place. I think we could have gotten longer if there were more displays or cars / trucks they could climb on, but what can you do. They still enjoyed it, and for the price of admission, it was well worth it!

By kflan57 |

Great mixture of cars, bikes, motorcycles, trucks, campers and kids toy cars, fun time! For everyone from kids to seniors.

By madmackNetherlands |

when you stay in the Allentown/Bethlehem area and you have a little time left go and visit this museum about the transport arround the Lehigh valley

By tommy8244 |

Very nice museum with great displays of cars and other transportation items that you can view in about 2 1/2 hours. The staff was very nice and they have an optional four dollar tour that you can attend that takes you across the street to the restoration building

By Karen C |

We went with our grandson (22 months) who loves cars and wheels. This was a delightful trip down memory lane. The site is clean and well maintained. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The old cars were some I remember seeing on the roads years ago! It was just .. fun to see this part of American history our grandson and delightful to watch our grandson having so much fun seeing cars everywhere. And some I haven't seen for years.

By Honestly902 |

My father at 88 went with my husband and son, 17. They all enjoyed the cars and the attractions . Fair price and senior friendly.

By jbc2016 |

Go to and see.........you'll be thrilled to see beautiful vehicles of the past. Also a relocated from the past, a drug store type of soda and food ... like you would see in years past in many drug stores.

By Scott M |

Very enjoyable place to visit if you like any form of transportation. They did an excellent job with every display area. They even had displays in the stairways and halls. You could spend hours wandering through the museum and not see everything that they offer. They also change their displays which keeps you coming back to see more fascinating vehicles.

Keep this museum in mind for multiple visits. You have to return often to see what's new at America On Wheels. Checkout their website for upcoming events.

By ymg200 |

I enjoyed my visit to America on Wheels museum and will definitely come back there in a year or two. I took my 10 year old kid with me and she enjoyed antique cars and trucks in the museum. They have antique Mack trucks in America on Wheels, which are rarely seen nowadays. They also have an electric vehicle from early 20th century there, early motorcycles, and many other antique and historic vehicles. All expositions are inside the building, so don't worry about the weather. I only had 1.5 hours for the museum, so I had to rush my visit. I'd allocate at least 2 hours for my next trip there.

By liftingchic |

Great place hidden in Allentown,PA.
This museum just doesn't have a Mack truck display. There are other displays as well.
I enjoy seeing the different displays that change every 6 months. I usually go on weekdays. The staff is always friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The place is kept very clean. The new displays always get put on the second floor. The place is handi cap and stroller friendly. There is also a restoration shop on the second floor, it shows how the car got fixed.
There also is an old style Hubcap Café located on the second floor. They serve ice cream, milkshakes, soda floats and hot dogs.

Visited today with our teenage daughter. Spent about 90 minutes; could’ve been longer but we didn’t read all the signs because we knew we’d be back. Really neat place.

By WaterboyII |

Wonderful exhibits and courteous staff. Many vehicles in the museum along with descriptions of the vehicles.

By Jfk08865 |

I've been to this museum several times, with my kids, adult friends and my brother. Some of the exhibits stay the same, but many change. no matter who I bring there, everyone has a great time! I'll definitely be back!

Before you go, check out Groupon.....there is often discount tickets available.

By Donna C |

Very nice museum, we spent about 2 hours there. Lots of American made cars and motorcycles in nice displays. Small gift shop and cute 1950's style snack bar.

By Tikket |

This was a good afternoon out for my husband and I. We certainly enjoyed the exhibits, both the permanent ones and the special Fins cars. Many of the interactive exhibits did not work, and that was a bit disappointing - I wanted to drive a Mack truck :(. The music was great throughout - stayed with the Fins theme of the 50's and 60's. The volunteers were very helpful. Minimal entrance fee - for seniors at least. Worth the time to visit.

By Alan J |

Well done exihibits and interesting cars in museum. Must see for any car enthusiast. My wife thought it was well done too.

By 514wmt |

Went on a super Cold Day last weekend, the Museum is incredible as soon as you walk in the front Door! Admission is very reasonable, under $10.00 per person.
The Layout is Fantastic, Antique Motorcycles, Race Cars, New & Old,
100 year old completely restored Full Size Mack Trucks, Tons of History,
Very Rare Vehicles and some One of a kind Modern Specialty Vehicles.
There is even a beautiful 1950's (Real) Diner inside the Museum, You could spend countless hours looking and admiring the vast selection of Exhibits. A must see!!

We were looking for a museum to hit in the Allentown area and this was a pleasant surprise. The museum is not big, but they have made the most of the two floors without it feeling cluttered or cramped. We appreciated the friendliness of all the docents who volunteer there. There are a variety of displays here, including an old-time mechanic’s shop, a room demonstrating the restoration process, they even have a recreated 50’s- style malt shop! Good for kids and adults who appreciate anything on wheels. Don’t miss the first “horseless carriage” built right in Allentown over 100 years ago!

By JohnBCowgill |

I enjoy seeing the old style cars. Therefore, I stopped by this place. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Oh, there are many cars. Great place.

By Winston -Pete R |

We thought your "Orphan Car" display was excellent, except for the fact that you had 2 Pontiacs, but no Crosley Cars. These were manufactured from 1939 to 1952, in Indiana, with the home office in Cincinnati,Ohio. They were small economy cars built for limited income family's, so that they could afford a "new" car.
Your museum is a great addition to the area, and is always interesting to visit. We especially like the changing exhibits. Being from New Jersey until recently moving to south central Pa. we now have easier opportunities to get to it. We will be seeing the museum more than once a year from now on.

By sharih |

Nicely put together attraction with history of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even collections of kiddie pedal cars, and a collection of slot cars. Very impressive and worth seeing. Lots of enlarged photos, original ads, other props in history.
Has a classroom where students learn how to restore cars. Has an adorable cafe with a restored soda jerk counter from an original rexall drug store.
All staff are retired, and love working there. They are very knowledgeable and friendly.
Glad we stopped in.

Incredible selection of early automobiles, and wonderful displays. Sort of like being at the NY 1964-5 world's fair for us, that's how nice this place is. Give it at least two hours, and bring your camera.

By steffs1949 |

Always something interesting going on.It is never the same, never boring! Different themes. Gift store is fun too. The staff is knowledgeable and eagle to share information.

By Deemarie1 |

I love seen all the antique cars and all the history. Beautiful place and my family enjoyed it very much.

By RetJetFxr |

Nice, small museum in a beautiful facility that's worth the visit. Price is a little steep for the size/scope of what you get to see, but we used Groupon to cut the cost by 45%. The museum is also in a seedy part of town, but parking is ample and felt pretty safe.

To add a little constructive criticism, get rid of the pocket book display. Yes, this museum also includes a display of women's POCKET BOOKS. Regardless of intent, this display has absolutely NOTHING to do with transportation. It's like showing pictures of children picking their noses, trying to justify it because they were doing it while sitting in the backseat of their parent's car.

This museum has been open for 8 yrs. You are greeted by a knowledgable docent who has worked in the area and is a car or Mack truck buff. They honor AAA discounts so for 10$ two people get in. They have a vintage Hupp which there are only 5 or 6 left in existence. There current exhibit is "Performance Cars" from the thunderbirds, corvettes, Rolls Royce and Cadillacs. They also have Mack trucks since they are built in Allentown. Indian motorcycles and the luxury peddle cars made for the jr millionaires. They also have an original soda fountain for snacks from the 50's.

We thought maybe 45 minutes. Nope, we were there for almost two hours. The key is to read the placard to see the one unique thing about that particular vehicle. There are few interactive displays that are meant for the children, but even an adult can have fun with.

So interesting and enjoyable. The folks at the front desk were so friendly. The museum was cozy, clean and quiet. No rush to get in and out...just take your time and enjoy! There was literally something there for anyone to enjoy and appreciate.

we took our grandkids on Sunday when kids go free and get free ice cream sundaes after wards.
The place is so nice. Totally wheel chair accessible. Very clean.
Everyone was very friendly!

We live in the Allentown area, and take our out of town guest to America On Wheels Museum. We always find that there is some new exhibit there, as well as the old standards. We enjoy both the new and the old exhibits.

see old cars and photos, history of auto, always call ahead for neat temporary exhibits like brass cars. a must with pre-teens

We bought a Groupon which was very reasonable. We visited this weekend & there was a seasonal train display upstairs, which was outstanding. The cars and trucks are beautiful..It is a small museum, well designed & laid out. Good for spending an hour or two. The Hubcap Cafe is really 50's & can be rented for special occasions. They have several admission prices, with discounts for Seniors too. You will not be disappointed/

Go …Go….Go Here. Excellent Showing of Vehicles. Went this Friday 9/10/21. Rich Green at 1:00 took us across the street to Tour RB Collection (Dealer and Car Restoration). Al one of the Two Brothers showed us some of his collection. Rich then took us back across the Street and took a Hour to go over the details of the Vehicles. Thank You Rich and Al.

Took my son there, which is was free on Sunday 12 years and under. We had a great experience before we went to the Phantoms hockey game. Lots of cool cars to explore.

By ms22489 |

Our experience was excellent! We were greeted by kind and knowledgeable staff that answer any questions you have about the history of each automobile on display. They also informed us about events that they have going on and when to come back for them. It is absolutely well worth visiting especially if you like cars.

A nice little museum with a lot of fun and interesting exhibits. Truly unique displays of all think automotive and transportation. A great way to spend a day.

We have heard about America on Wheels and finally had a chance to visit. The museum is kept clean and organized, with everything displayed wonderfully. There were people throughout the museum to add even more information to the displays.

I go to this gem every few months - to see the changing exhibits. Like the Allentown Art Museum, certain exhibits stay the same, but the changes here are very nice. A noteworthy room is where they show an unrestored car - and what it looks like when totally restored. I've never eaten in the snack bar, but the retro 50's look is appealing and I'd like to try it sometime. Staff is courteous and friendly and the gift shop has some nice things. They have a reciprocal agreement with the Art Museum, so my Museum membership is good here as well. Come and visit this unique place - then come back again in a few weeks.

The cars were beautiful! The staff was very friendly and very helpful! The building was very clean as well.

By Dana W |

We loved all of the old cars, kids included!! The building was easy to find too! We highly recommend going!

I spent several hours visiting the museum while my wife did some ancestry research. This museum is different than others and I like what they have done. They have very interesting history of Mack trucks including awesome video of a cross country trek of Mack trucks in the early 1900’s. They have some really nice posters and artwork of cars as well as displays of real antiques that interested me a baby boomer. I recommend this to everyone but especially to interested in Mack trucks and Pennsylvania license plate history. A nice plus is the car restoration company across the street which you can also visit. They have some amazing cars in the showroom.

By mrpesce |

I've been here a couple of times and really like it except there isn't much here. It does have some great exhibits but you can see the entire museum in about a half an hour. They regularly change exhibits but not worth it to go back often.

By Dina K |

Very interesting museum with courteous docents and beautifully restored vehicles of all kinds. Definitely worth the visit!

By susan r |

I brought my children here ages 5,7, and 16. My 16 year old loved cars and he thought it was great. My other kids enjoyed it too. The workers are volunteers and are so pleasant.

Our family (with 2 teenage boys) went to this museum over the Christmas holiday break. 2 floors of building with easy accessibility and nice flow of exhibits. Lots of vintage vehicles (some restored and some not) and transportation historical information to see, read, and enjoy. Special (for the holidays) train exhibit and guitar exhibit were fun to see. Admission under $40 for family of 4. Friendly staff.

Whenever I have my Motorhead friends visit me in PA I always suggest that we visit America on Wheels. If they are lucky we get to Das Awksfest or Wheels of Time on Saturday and then sleep late on Sunday and head out for a nice brunch and Wheels of Time.

By leo m |

This is a fairly small museum but has a little something for everyone. They have a nice collection of pedal cars for the kids. There is an interesting diorama of a 1940's garage. Their Indianapolis racecar collection is something I haven't seen accept at larger venues. They cover auto restorations including a before and after example. They even have a Ford GT40 near the entrance with several collector cars and trucks throughout.

By P F B |

Great for car buffs and those interested in automotive and Americana history. Lots in interesting cars. Lots of historical photos of the Allentown area and Pennsylvania relating to cars and travel. A variety of videos play regarding old car ads, auto racing, etc The cafe consists is from a former Rexall drug store soda fountain. The food is limited to hit dogs, but they do serve a variety of soda fountain treats like ice cream sundaes, milk shacks and egg creams. The staff is very friendly and a wealth of information about the cars, the museum itself and the history of the area. Great for a rainy day or as part of a stay in the Lehigh Valley area.

By ilivennj |

A friend and I stopped here on our way from New Jersey to Harrisburg. Nice museum with a good selection of old cars. Nice exhibit showing an old gas station/repair shop like they were when I was a boy.

Their hours/days open vary by time of year so it's best to check americaonwheels.org before planning a visit.

By Beth F |

Beautiful collection. This museum has something for everyone in the family. The volunteers are very knowledgeable; we enjoyed our conversation with them in the gift shop. They told us even more than what we learned in the museum. The museum is very cleverly designed to take you through the history of transportation while showing all the various uses from commercial to recreational.

By sleepingbeauty_10 |

What a great museum! It mirrored something out of the smithsonian. Museum very clean and well put together. Staff extremely friendly and anxious to share stories. Price was far lower than they could have charged. A hidden gem, right here in our area.

By John N |

Keep in mind most vehicles here are on loan from collectors so the variety changes from time to time. There are two floors and both are very well kept and very clean. There is an elevator which makes it easy for those who may need it. Staff on duty will answer your questions and also keep you away if you get to close or frisky with the merchandise. Being a holiday season they have a really nice LGB train display on the second floor. It's not hard to miss although the streets to it are a bit hard to negotiate at times. Well worth a visit of at least one hour or more.

By Kristi K |

We took our 11 and 13 year old and they both enjoyed it. Decent price and worth the trip. Even interested my daughter!

By Jeffrey N |

Great place to visit if you love old cars and there history. They always have new cars in the museum.

By intlrover1 |

This museum is in a somewhat unlikely location near the soon-to-be developed Lehigh River waterfront in a formerly industrial area of Allentown. The surprise for automotive enthusiasts is not just the variety and the quality of the vehicles on display, but the also the design of the exhibits spaces as well. In addition to the permanent collection, there are changing themed exhibits every few months, ranging from race cars, brass era, classics, pedal cars, motorcycles, etc, etc. The staff is very helpful and the price very reasonable. If you're a car (or truck) person, don't pass up the opportunity to visit America on Wheels!

By Susan M |

Beautifully restored American cars, trucks, and motorcycles displayed in creative, attractive settings and vignettes, including some of the very earliest electric cars from the late 19th and early 20th century. Nice collection of children's pedal cars and slot cars and other toy cars. Until October a special display of cars owned by Mr. Bulgari of Bulgari Jewelers - stunning.

Visit this site and be ready to see things from your youth. We loved the place and thought it had some really neat exhibits. We loved the "Woodys" and the Mack Truck exhibits. There is a lot of varied things to see, lots of different methods of transportations. The folks are friendly and helpful. The site is well spread out and easy to navigate.

By macdent2018 |

Went with friends from Pittsburgh and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd been there before, but there's always something new to see. The museum is clean and engaging and really gives you a sense of automotive history. Try it, you'll be impressed!

Very cool museum. Big enough to spend a hour or 2 but not to big where it's over bearing. Great exhibits . The Mack display was very cool.. cool little ice cream shop also on premises. An Allentown must..

By Christopher C |

Very well presented history of things that move us....cars, pedal cars, trains....yes, go play with the train set. It was fun!

By Nextboat |

This is a great Museum dedicated to transportation. They have some interesting static displays including early Electric Cars, and a short history of Mack Trucks. Other displays rotate in and out, so,you can visit repeatedly and be sure to see now displays.
They have a completely restored 1950's Cafe called the Hubcap cafe with food service of the period.

My visit to this museum was one of fun with my family and a sense of nostalgia as I recognized several items from my childhood and growing up in Ohio. It brought back many fond memories and recollections of so many people that I have lost c ontact with in my lifetime.
It is a very nice place to visit. The kids enjoy the Mack truck cab they can sit on and drive as a movie simulates the movement of the road.

Both the grownups and teenagers in our group were absolutely delighted with this display of means of transportation. We loved all the old cars that were there on permanent display as well as all the motorcycles. The milkshakes at the soda fountain were also a big hit.

By G&B |

Enjoyed our 90 minute visit to this beautiful building that houses so many artifacts and vehicles. Impressive, detailed write-ups with several hands-on learning centres, this is suitable to all ages. We loved the featured Thunderbird display and everything is in immaculate condition. Too bad the HubCap Café was closed.

Scheduled this for a rainy morning in Allentown. did not really know what to expect but it exceeded my expectations. A beautiful museum for antique cars. Loved the Mack truck section.

By liftingchic |

It is a hidden gem in Allentown. Great displays of cars. The exhibits change every 6 months. The staff is very freindly and knowledgable. The museum has two floors of displays. The top floor is where the current display is. They also offer a body shop that shows how cars were restored.
Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

By HelenRacine |

Allentown was a pit stop for us but we spent a morning at this museum. It covered a wide range of autos, ie antiques, children's pedal toys, hybrids, etc. It wasn't busy so we took our time reading everything. It was professionally laid out on 2 floors. Small kids' area let them do license plate rubbings. Took photos of them in a mini-dragster.

From the oldest car made in the U.S. to the newest Lamborghini Gallardo and McLaren MP4-12C, this museum is loaded with the coolest things. This and the AACA Museum in Hershey are both great place to visit if you like cars.

What an unexpected surprise. it was raining so we decided to visit the museum and should have gone despite the weather. The exhibits were great especially enjoyed the truck and heavy equipment section. Staff were very friendly and it is great place for a family visit. Admission is reasonable and free parking. Don't miss!

By Stephanie P |

We visited during a mini car show that was set up in the lot outside the building. It was pretty neat to see a bunch of new cars outside and a long history of vehicles inside. This was our second trip, the last being 2021, and several of the exhibits have changed so it was a new experience. We spent a lot of time inside wandering through. The room that was set up with a Matchbox race track and coloring sheets was great for the youngest kids. The interactive exhibits also kept their interest.

By 2Admiral2016 |

The museum is nicely laid out with easy to read info boards and plaques. It contains displays of bikes, motorcycles, cars and trucks with a look to future transportation as well. There is even car related art work to view. They have visiting exhibits, too, and we caught the NASCAR one which was great. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The building is clean, well lit and a fun place to roam around for a couple hours.

Small and compact, well done museum highlighting cars, trains, trucks Disappointing that small size prevented more depth in displays Good introduction to car museums

This automobile/motorized transportation museum in Allentown is BEAUTIFUL !!! It is spacious, expertly conceived and entertaining. As with any quality meseum, some of the exhibits change during the year, allowing multiple visits annually. Go and experience this treat.

By Otwoma |

I bring my three year old grandson here regularly as he loves anything on wheels. Most of all he LOVES driving the Big Mac truck. We come on weekdays and spend at least an hour driving in the simulator. They should have more simulator type of exhibits as kids just love them.

My husband and I took our adult children and our grandchildren to America on Wheels Museum during the Christmas school break. What a delightful experience. Everyone was so kind to the children (ages 14 to 6). In addition to the cars, we really enjoyed the multiple train displays. For the largest display, there was a scavenger hunt for the children to find fun objects on the display. When they were done, each received a candy cane and small gift. Smiles all around. Additionally, at 12:30 PM, there was a performance in the 'diner' room. In addition to a guitarist singing songs about different transportation vehicles, there were activities for the children to do. The most favorite was decorating an upside down sugar cone into a Christmas tree. Decorate now; eat later. So, take your children. It's great.

By John E |

All the exhibits were interesting and well presented. The volunteers were very helpful and could add additional background to the displays. If you can go on a Wednesday or Friday, there is an additional tour of the restoration shop. That was an unexpected bonus

By K16kid |

I’ll admit it; I’m a gear head and have loved cars, especially high performance cars all my life. When I heard I was going there for a children’s birthday party, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. This is not a museum of race cars, although there are some NASCAR and a formula Atlantic car. It’s not a motorcycle museum, but they have Harley’s, Indians and an MX Suzuki. It’s not an antique car museum, but they have a variety of those. It’s not Mack truck museum, but they have some of those.
Get the idea? It’s a collection of vehicles you might see on American roads and race tracks!
And it’s worth the price of admission!

By Jill N |

I can't believe I lived here years without coming across this delightful museum dedicated to cars and other moving vehicles. Despite the small exterior, there were quite a few exhibits on the inside and we were able to keep an energetic boy occupied for quite some time. I'd even like to go back on my own when I can spend more time looking at the exhibits and reading the accompanying material.

By Judy E |

Great place for young and old. Fascinating how we've progressed. Bring your kids and grandchildren. So much to see.

By Paul S |

Not a huge museum, but the restored vintage vehicles are fabulous. They've been meticulously and painstakingly restored to their original splendor, and are absolutely fabulous. Definitely worth a visit!

By aimeelyon |

I took my favorite uncle to this museum because he's loved cars since he was a young boy. As we stood right inside upon entry, we were immediately taken by the old truck with brass fixtures and vintage cars, brilliantly polished and close enough to touch. (We didn't!) Then one of the volunteers approached us and began chatting with my uncle about their first cars. Even though the man was leaving for the day, he stayed for several minutes, engaged in a lively conversation that delighted my uncle.
When he finally departed, we bought tickets and slowly made our way through the exhibits.
The early hot rod vehicles, authentic photographs, and historical information on plaques throughout the museum made it a true walk in the past for my uncle. He was thrilled at each exhibit, and when we got to the large gallery on the upper floor, we both picked out the car of our dreams. Mine was a creamy white corvette with red interior, on loan from The Post Family of New York. I can still picture it in my mind!
Anyway, for those who have always cherished taking to the open road in a sweet set of wheels, this museum has something for everyone, young and old alike. Pristine condition vehicles in an immaculately kept facility. And so enjoyable that we lingered until we really could stay no longer. Worth every penny of the admission price! My advice is to GO!!!

By AlphaRam |

We paid $10 per adult, $7 for a senior, and $5 per child to enter the America on Wheels Museum. Parking is free and the building stands out from the neighborhood around it. There is a variety of exhibits throughout the museum from different eras of transportation. There was an exhibit of muscle cars – then and now that was very good. Mustangs, Camaros, etc. There was even a 1971 Barracuda like the one I was caught speeding in Oklahoma City once in 1982. I got a ticket for general speeding as the officer could not determine my true speed – which was over 130 MPH! Anyway, Pee Wee Herman’s bike was on display, pedal cars, a nice selection of Indian motorcycles, etc. I get the impression that the exhibit pieces get changed out fairly often. There was also a gallery that exhibited steps and technology for restoring an old car. I certainly recommend this museum. I will probably go back next year when I am in the area.

By IrishChief |

Our party of 5, all adults, enjoyed walking around and taking in the cars and other displays. The people offering info were extremely pleasant and offered some interesting info to hear. Recommended to spend some time. Found a Groupon as well.

By Shawn H |

This museum exceeded my expectations on a recent holiday visit. The wide selection of historic cars, historical information, fire trucks, model trains, and mack trucks from the very first cars to modern times was really special. The museum appears to be well-financed, and had numerous volunteers to assist throughout the space. The museum also had exhibits supporting and engaging the local community as well. Definitely a highlight for any visit to Allentown.

By Bill B |

America on Wheels in Allentown is Pennsylvania's best kept secret. Exhibiting classic and antique motor vehicles that change every six months, the museum also has exhibits of pinstriping, restoration and more. Activities for children and paintings of automobiles round out the experience making it fun for the entire family. The entry fee is very reasonable.

By trailerkeith |

This museum isn't a vehicle specific or type specific, but a museum of all forms of road transportation including trucks, motorcycles, muscle cars, pre war classics and modern muscle cars. The most interesting room for me was the restoration area where that had some cars in various states of restoration. Great to go with a "car person" in your life.

By Ann W |

I was able to visit this museum as part of a business event. I was pleasantly surprised as I had never been here before.

I think this would be a great place to take older relatives. They would really enjoy it. There was also a lot of memorabilia from the Lehigh Valley.

The ice cream shop was very enjoyable too. It had a real authentic feel to it.

By Toon N |

The museum has a nice collection of vehicles. Cars, trucks (Macs!) and other. They had a room with sportscars (which was not part of the usual collection) There is also a room which is dedicated to the restauration process. Staff was friendly and helpfull. Worth a visit!!

By BCTSRacing |

This was a very interesting place to visit. It's very well kept and great value for $10. They even have a library where you can look at books on various era's of cars. My husband loved it, worth a visit for sure.

By fawne940 |

The building was very clean and organized. The staff was very friendly. There are 2 floors with interesting displays. It was quite a bit smaller than we expected. We were excited to see the cars from the 50s and 60s that were on display as part of the changing exhibit. There were only about 10 of those cars so that was a bit disappointing. The other exhibits like the stages of restoring a car, the Mack exhibit with the "garage" and the exhibit showing the automobiles around 1900 were all interesting, but small. We visited on a Tuesday and it was not busy at all and it took us about 1 hour to view everything.

By Joe |

Interesting museum, rotating exhibit that changes every quarter in the upper gallery. Very unique place and definitely worth a visit.

By Ralph S |

This is a fantastic car museum located in Allentown, PA. Very nicely laid out, inexpensive to visit, has many different styles and types of cars and some trucks, you don't want to miss this.

By Reasonable50 |

We were in Allentown on business for a second time and had an itch to explore. Tripadvisor recommended this museum and we were not disappointed. There are a variety of vehicles in the museum and many of the exhibits rotate seasonally. Our favorite exhibits were the Mack truck exhibit and the oldies but goodies that rotate. This is a serious car enthusiast museum and great fun. We spent about 2 hours here and were crestfallen that the cafe was closed on a Saturday. We would have enjoyed a malt there.

By VICTOR D |

Nice time seeing different modes of transportation throughout the years. Plenty of different vehicles to see on different floors. Some interactive things to do as well.

By danhF9299CV |

The museum has displays to which all age groups can relate. I went to see the Pony Cars from my generation and also enjoyed seeing the Cars from TRANSFORMERS. Great job America On Wheels staff!

By eaglefan1 |

America on Wheels is a great place for kids and adults alike! We held our son's 6th BD party there and all of the kids had a blast! Planning the party was a breeze with the museum. The staff and volunteers are fantastic-can't say enough about all of them. The party started by the kids going on a tour of all of the cars in the museum, then the kids ate in the HubCap Cafe. We chose pizza as the main food, afterwards the kids could pick their own ice cream. In the cafe-an arts and crafts table was set up with license plate etchings and other paper projects. The huge wooden Hotwheels ramp was a BIG hit with all of the kiddos!!! The party ended with a scavenger hunt in the museum. So happy we had the party at America on Wheels. We will definitely return to visit the museum again. They also have a huge train display at Christmas time!

It is located in quieter neighborhood of Allentown. We were welcomed by several friendly guys. The location has two floors so make sure you have enough time to checkout every corner of this unique place. We saw some very unique vehicles and kids-friendly gas station setup - hard to find anywhere else. Thank you for excellent experience.

By gehutch |

A great place for all ages. You can see things from the 1800's to the present. Bikes, motorcycles, carriages, all types of cars, trucks and a complete '50's diner.

They have a revolving exhibit which right now is performance cars over the last century. A car or two from each decade.
A lot of very rare vehicles.

There is a room set up showing each stage of how these older vehicles are restored.

There is another larger room set up with a complete garage, older Mack trucks (one you can sit in) and some beautiful antique junior cars.

A very small entrance fee, well worth seeing everything in there.

By Kimberly F |

For the $8 to get in I believe this was good deal. Only took us about 45 minutes to go through it all though. Probably an hour or more if you are a real true avid car lover.

By Phil G |

From old classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. The museum had it all. Is was well played out and the staff was very friendly. The only downside was that many of the autos were displayed with a view from the rear and they was no way to look at those from all angles. Still in all this was a great museum.

By Terese B |

Stopped by because my husband and son enjoy looking at vehicles and history. The museum hit both points to a tee.
The museum is well kept and had interesting facts and movies.
The vehicles are in excellent shape.
The workers were all helpful, knowledgeable and kind
Definitely worth a stop.

Being a former Chevy dealer's kid, I went to the museum with my husband eager to see the new Corvette display along with the rest of the museum (first visit). While we enjoyed the museum overall, it had its pluses and minuses. I will state I've limited my rating to 3 stars because of the issues noted below.

The main selection of cars and other vehicles including motorcycles and bicycles was diverse and well done for a small museum. I especially liked that the vehicles or multi-vehicle displays often had accompanying signs that asked and answered why the particular vehicle is important, including both positives and negatives surrounding the particular vehicle. My main reason for going, the Corvette display, was fantastic. From a perfect 1953 convertible that originally belonged to performer Victor Borge in the entranceway, to the upstairs exhibit, the very best of Corvette was on display. It was heaven for me to see a rare 1954 convertible and especially a 1955 in the marvelous shade of brown nicknamed "Corvette Copper," considering only 15 were supposedly made in this color. The display is not large, but it covers the history of Corvette beautifully. This was worth the entire trip.

My husband and I drove to Allentown in our EV, and he joked with one of the docents that an auto museum should have a charging station. Well, we found out quickly why it doesn't and likely won't ever have one. While they had an excellent display of some of the original, early 20th century EVs, the display describing current EV technology was one of the WORST examples of modern anti-EV bias I've ever seen. The car on display was a weird handmade vehicle that doesn’t exist outside of the museum. The display also listed every possible negative about EVs in large type behind the car, including outdated statements about battery composition among other overblown supposed problems. It became VERY obvious why the display was done this way - it was across from a flashy display on the future of hydrogen-powered vehicles that included a sleek, professionally-designed future model. There was also a display mockup of a hydrogen accessibility station and "charger" which was labeled as provided by the company, Air Products. Do I need to tell you that Air Products is the world’s leading supplier of hydrogen, and that its headquarters is located in Allentown?

I can understand wanting local flavor in a museum located where it is; in fact, the sizeable room dedicated to the history of trucking and focusing on locally-made Mack Trucks was well done and enjoyable. However, it didn't downgrade other makes of trucks or competing vehicles to tell its story. I'm a medical educator who is required to present evidence-based facts and avoid bias in the work I do. To see a pair of future technology displays presented in such a biased manner was disheartening. The hydrogen area even proudly asked if the museum had properly presented the potential future of driving technology well. I can answer that easily - a resounding NO.

The museum is not large and you can see everything in about two hours. I would still recommend it to driving enthusiasts. That said, I think EV owners who visit should continue to let the museum directors know that their biased viewpoint on modern electric vehicles is not appreciated and should be updated to reflect a fairer representation against hydrogen technology. With the markedly increasing purchase and use of EVs in the USA, I'm sure the museum can find a corporate or other group sponsor who would be happy to support the museum and help you present the facts as Air Products has obviously already done on the hydrogen side.

This place was awesome! My kids and I had a great time! There were people on each level and in every space ready to answer questions. We even happened to be there on a day to ride in the 100 year old car! Pleasantly surprised!

If you're a car, motorcycle, truck or bicycle fan, you'll love this place. Takes about an hour to see but you could spend a lot longer if you want to.

By retiredfrwork |

Yesterday my husband, my cousin and his wife decided to go here for a visit. This museum was more interesting and beyond our expectations . From the moment we paid the lady who waited on us was very warm welcoming us.

All the displays of automobiles from days bygone to race cars were amazing. Just viewing little childrens cars to the bicycles on display were amazing. The motorcycles and seeing an old electric car were very well done and interesting.

The only disappointing thing was the Hub Cap cafe was closed due to a kids birthday party. My husband and cousin wanted to have ice cream there.

By David M |

My brother, sisters, and I took the drive down from Pocono Downs to check this place out as we were having our annual siblings weekend. We were very impressed by the exhibits which were informative, interesting, unique, and colorful. There were cars of all types from way back when to modern race cars. There was a whole section on Mack trucks which were built at one time in Allentown. I enjoyed the section about pedal cars and how they were restored. You can sit in the cab of a truck which simulates how it looks while driving down the roads. This is a great place to visit. The admission price is reasonable. The gift shop is interesting and the bathrooms were spotless. They also describe the steps involved in how the old cars are restored from being a "barn find" to a beautiful vehicle.

By SunFunSun |

We went on New Year's Eve and luckily got there early enough not knowing they wre closing early, so be sure to check their hours when you go.

We spent about 2 hours here. The staff was very friendly and helpful if you had questions on the displays. Hubby and I love cars, so this was right up our alley to spend an hour or two.

If you have AAA, let them know since the discount is buy one, get one free!

I wasn't expecting much that I haven't seen before, since I've experienced several antique car shows and several antique car museums in the past few years.

Lots of things I haven't seen elsewhere. Lots of VERY old vehicles accompanied by plenty of text to read regarding the history of vehicles.

My favorite display was that of antique children's pedal cars. Gorgeous colors; gorgeous workmanship.

I enjoyed the display regarding the construction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in various stages.

If you want to enjoy a snack at their soda fountain cafe, check the hours. The museum was open til 5 PM the day we visited but the snack bar closed at 3 PM.

I love it at America on Wheels. When I can, I volunteer there with my mom. Everyone should visit at least once to see how cool it is. Right now they have some cars from the Transformers movies.

A must see for motorheads!Friendly, knowledgeable volunteers answer all your questions. Great displays in every area of the museum. Plenty history to learn too! From early electric vehicles to what the future may have in store. Racing history, motorcycles and a nice Mack truck display. Things for kids to do see too! Don't miss it!

Compares very favorably with the Peterson Auto Museum in LA. Very well laid out, Fun old fashioned lunch counter on 2nd floor with ice cream floats, milkshakes, etc. Friendly, interested staff. Beautiful, some unusual cars & other vehicles. Easy free parking.
Available for receptions, etc. Have been there several times & always discover something that I didn't see before. Would rate this an ought to see.

We were conducting a meeting for racing instructors. The staff were very helpful and accommodating throughout. The exhibits were very good covering a broad range of vehicles. We all had a good productive time.

America on wheels museum was a pleasant surprise. I found them on the Inter-net while looking for car museums. It was worth the trip from NC ! Their presentations & information on different modes of transportation was excellant. To top it off it was free for seniors today :)

My tour guide not only hand an in-debt knowlege of American Car history, but a deep understanding of vechicle mechanics on every area of the vechicles throughout history. In addition, there was a cornucopia of car trivia that even the mildly interested
attendee would find entirely entertaining and eye-opening.

Visited July 27 2019. Good transportation museum in Allentown. Has cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles etc. Rotates upper floor exhibit April and October. Good parking and has elevator for handicap access. Plan on spending at least two hours to really absorb everything. When you exit the lot,you must turn right.

Nice vehicles displayed beautifully. A trip to the past. Some great pieces from local collectors. There are frequently special themes and displays.

Great place if you like cars, trucks and bikes, including motor cycles. Three basic areas of displays, but don't miss the alcoves for the smaller exhibits. Many diecast models too and an old fashion soda fountain. Also a small gift shop. Well worth a visit if you are in town.

I like that they're constantly changing the exhibit several times a year otherwise it would be boring. I've attended several fundraisers at America on Wheels that were a blast!

This is a VERY special place that locals may not know about –
but people come very far away to visit !

Where to begin – they have a rotating exhibit that changes every 6 months.
Recently they had MANY exotic cars that were just fantastic.
Cars range from the earliest, to transport rigs, to a workshop that has an unrestored vehicle and how a “barn find” can be restored and what the process is etc….they even have old car “toys” that are from decades ago, & also motorcycles…..last but not least old electric cars !

It is a few floors and my company actually had their Christmas party there a few years ago !

At Christmas time – it gets better …there are O scale trains set up by a local club (including me) with an extensive layout
that includes Thomas the Train !

You really need to go and explore for yourself – it is
Invaluable history that must be preserved ;-)

My sister said we have to go see this museum, and she was spot on. It is a fascinating display of wheeled vehicles from all eras. The displays are imaginative, and educational. Certainly worth a few hours of time if your in the area. Good for families also. Much like any good museum, they have rotating displays , loans from car collectors.

This car museum is larger than expected, has incredible cars and other forms of transportation throughout history. It's inexpensive, and a great place to be on a rainy (or any other) day!! The staff is knowlegeable and friendly too!!

Beautiful, retro and peaceful. Most people have no idea of this wonderful place hidden in downtown Allentown.

Vehicles range from a 1895 Electrobat IV up to a 1984 Dodge Rampage pickup. In between is a 1936 Family Camping Vacation, Guy's Garage of the late 40's, a number of Mack trucks & motorcycles, a restoration center and the Evolution of the Pickup, from a 1924 Ford Model T coupe to the 1984 Rampage. Mounted on one wall are six paintings from the Holland Collection of the early 1900's-1920's.

Most vehicles are in mint condition. Part of one gallery are two Sam Traylor sprint cars from 1948-1954. The motorcycles range from a 1909 March to a 1950 Harley-Davidson Hydra-Guide. Most exhibits will have an information stand. This is a two story facility with both elevator & stairs. I was told every six months a new exhibit of vehicles will be presented for about six months.

From the photos taken here is a break down: five Mack trucks, fifteen motorcycles, eleven pickups, two fire trucks, sixteen autos, & five race type vehicles. Some exhibits I skipped over, so more vehicles are available. Two levels is not a large museum, I classify this museum as medium. All exhibits are well laid ot-NO crowding-with some galleries having bit of a theme, such as the 1936 Family Camping Vacation, Guy's Garage & the Evolution of the Pickup. I didn't look at size, but what the museum has in the way of different types of transportation.

A visitor will find no large crowds, with a self tour lasting at least one four. My visit lasted two hours, that included photographing most exhibits/galleries. Excellent lighting for photography. A gift shop. Restrooms on both floors.

A visit is highly recommended. Plenty of free parking.

This was better than expected. Great to visit, our 9 year old grand daughter liked it and so did we. Very nice, clean, fun!

For old people like me, and for anyone who loves cars, this place is a treasure. Two levels of galleries showcasing vehicles of bygone times. It's not all cars -- there are trucks, fire engines, motorcycles and even the little pedal cars beloved by generations of children. The large facility is very clean and well staffed, with knowledgeable guides available to explain exhibits and answer questions. An intriguing display slows how cars are customized to become hot rods. Another is a replica of an old service station and repair shop. On the upper level you'll find a 1950's soda fountain serving ice cream treats and hot dogs. It's called the Hub Cap Cafe and it has polished hub caps suspended from the ceiling and a Christmas tree decorated entirely with hub caps. The ice cream concoctions are very good.
I was surprised and disappointed by the small turnout. My group visited on a nice spring Saturday and there were few visitors in the museum. The Hub Cap Cafe didn't have a single customer at 1:30 in the afternoon. It apparently survives by hosting birthday parties and other social events.
I enjoyed my visit and plan to take out-of-town visitors there in the future. The entire facility is handicap accessible.

My 5 y.o. boy enjoys viewing, riding, or touching anything with an engine. This museum was a balanced blend of each of those criteria. For the $10 entry fee (he was free, but coupons are also available in local Visitor's Guidebooks), I felt the visit was worth the price. Two floors of varied automobiles, trucks, non & motorized devices, engines, tires, etc. were all on display for viewing. Informative reading was part of each display, and I frequently read parts of the displays aloud to my son so that he could interpret what was in front of him. There are interactive areas for children, of which my boy enjoyed. An art activity with license plates (enthusiasts can run the license plates with crayons, or like we did, create our own 8x10 message with various letters, shapes, and forms from the different plates) can take some time to engage your children.

We anticipate returning during the holiday season, at which time the displays will have been changed and some additional displays will feature trains in a holiday-themed setting.

This is a gem of a museum even if autos don't interest you much. The museum cafe is a real 1950s soda fountain completely removed from its original location and reassembled here. There are some truly unique vehicles here including a Stanley Steamer.

This was a great place to spend some time on a wet day.
While it is relatively small, it is well set out with all displays clearly identified, and easy to get around.
It covers transport over the last 100+ years with some great vehicles on exhibition

If you went once you may want to go again! They change some of the cars on the upper floor every so often. If you went a year ago, you didn't see the new ones they brought in! A good number of these cars are on loan, so they take some out and bring others in. I think they make changes every 6 months or so.

By 50Karen50 |

This is not your typical car museum. It truly tells a story and is always changing, so you can go back several times a year and you’ll never get bored!

By Joan K |

I'd rate this museum a "Good," but it's not an option; my son and I have been to other antique car museums which have housed many more cars and vintage vehicles, but I thought that the truck exhibit in this museum was very interesting and unique. Regarding the cars, there is a sampling from each vintage era, but there are the most amount of cars on the top floor, from more recent decades (We prefer looking at the real antique cars and the old Ford type cars.). There's a room with a model train layout, and a room, which shows the restoration process of a vehicle, although it could have used more explanation.

If you are a car buff, then this is the place you want to go. There are some beautiful vintage cars here and lots of information on the auto industry, Even the kids love it.

Includes multiple exhibits of autos, trucks, motorcycles as well as bicycles. A must see museum if you like cars.

I went on a mystery trip with Benedict's Bus Service and this museum was the first stop. I did not know it existed. It has a good mix of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. There were also two dresses on display. I took lots of pictures and have told friends about this place.

Small well maintained museum of beautiful historical cars from late 1920s through 1960s. Worth the small entrance fee of $10.

If you love cars,it's the best. Could have stayed all day. A bargain. all the cars, wonderful, beautiful.

Wonderful museum of cars, trucks, motorcycles. Fine to see how old transports Are restored or preserved. Some exhibits can be sat in. Videos are good. Good for adults and kids

By Gay K |

The guide(s) were informative and helpful. Learned and saw a lot. Children friendly.
Would highly recommend a visit.

It's amazing that a museum of this caliber is somewhere other than a major US city. The quality of the exhibits, the significance of the cars, trucks and other examples of wheeled transportation is truly remarkable. There is plenty to do for all, ranging from children to learned car collectors.

If you have ANY interest in the history of cars, transportation and the Lehigh Valley this is a must see. Spent 1.5 hours there and could have stayed longer. Watch for any special exhibits, this will enhance your time there. Took my husband and friends for his birthday, saw the "fins of the 50's and 60's. Had to drag him out, only because the museum was closing. Will go back again. Didn't have the hub cap café open, will try to revisit when it's open.
