This is an easy place to get to by driving north on the Grand Loop road and turning off onto the Rim Road. Drive to the end of the Rim Road. There will be a long parking lot. From there walk down the path at the end to the viewing point. It is less than 100 yards down a good slope (all paved) and then turn around. The view is of the falls and the river. Great view and easy to get to. I highly recommend this for anyone coming to the park!

When you are at Yellowstone canyon ypu can't miss this point. This is the image of all the brochures of the canyon. Simply beatiful.

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is one of the most beautiful areas in Yellowstone National Park in my opinion. Really worth a visit, especially Artist Point.

Popular stop, but just gorgeous landscape. I recommend you get out of the car and walk around and take pictures.

Artist Point is at the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The colors of the canyon are amazing. You can see the Lower Falls from here as well. If you are a fan of the artist Thomas Moran, you’ll see how amazingly close he captured the colors. The parking lot is large and can accommodate a lot of vehicles but can become congested around midday. Visiting early or late in the day is recommended.

Been back to this area many times. A great hiking area around the artists pots, would recommend stopping here while in the park. Has never seemed too busy, like Norris basin.

A must see. The beauty of the falls, the view is stunning and the other side the canyon mountains are spectacular

This is a great location that offers unobstructed view of the Lower Falls and the Grand Canyon. As you approach from the parking lot, a lot of visitors are awe-stricken with the partial view through the tress and start snapping pictures. But don't waste your time there. The best unobstructed view is at a deadend viewing platform which is reached by a stone stairway. The view is so well composed that anyone with a camera can get a decent picture and you might have to contend with the hordes of visitors juggling for position to take that I am Here picture.

We're Montanans, and try to visit Yellowstone every year or so. The crowds in some of the park wear us out, but there are some sights that are worth braving those crowds. We stopped ata Artist Point on a sunny June weekday. We got a parking spot, and walked to the viewpoints. There were lots of people, but the vibe was upbeat and friendly. A ranger was giving talks on the history of the falls. The view of the falls and the canyon is indeed world class, and we never get tired to seeing it. So...it is indeed worth braving the crowds to see. Just be prepared for the crowds, slow down, relax and follow the rules. Don't be pushy. This place is truly a national treasure.

A wonderful thing to visit in Yellowstone. Very pretty and fun to stay and watch the canyons that it is in.

This is a trip highlight and a must stop if visiting the park. Always lots of people but the view is worth the effort.

The artist point is probably the most impressive place to look at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. The unique combination of the Canyon Walls with it's yellow rocks, the wonderful Lower Falls, and the green trees around, is simply spectaclar!

Great stop on our tour of park, very popular viewing point and easy to get to. My wife and I enjoyed the photo opportunities.

This is one of the best spots in Yellowstone and undoubtedly best view of lower falls in Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Loved the view and vivid color.

Make sure to stop here. You’ll have some great scenic vistas. It’s not far off the main road. We took a picnic and enjoyed it at this spot.

A small diversion from our planned route but worth it every bit. Parking and bathroom on sight. A few minutes walk from parking.
Scenic, artistic sight. It’s like an artist painted over the valley, different colors, shades at different angles. (God must be a great artist too) but scientifically the sulfur cause the color changes.
Beautiful pictures.

One of our favorite stops on the Yellowstone Loop.
This spot offers breathtaking views of the Yellowstone Canyon as well as open vistas of the Upper and Lower falls. Generally plenty of parking and restrooms with easy walkways and few steps to the top view.
Be sure to check out all the view along the Lower falls access point.

The view from Artist Point is my favorite. The late afternoon sun ruined my photos on our first day so I returned at dawn on the following day. Artist Point is a very short walk from the parking lot. The dawn view was breathtaking. It’s not to miss.
The additional benefit of the early morning drive from the Lake Hotel was the wildlife, including a grizzly bear, enroute in the Hayden Valley.

Most people get here by driving, so the crowds are heavy. It does not take long to see, so the parking lot turns over quickly, but it is crowded.

The various points you can view the fantastic scenery are many but this is a place that is so well named whether you are an artist or not the view is spectacular and you can see looking at the colour of the rocks why the park got its name

This is worth a stop. There are different viewpoints, but you can see it without climbing the stairs. So, you choose how much you want to walk while taking in the scenery.

the hike up to the the whole area is well worth the hike You can see a rainbow of colors in the lanscape below

If you don't have time to go to many points, you can go to just one point and want to view both the lower falls and the colorful (red, orange, white) cliff wall, then I recommend you to go to this Artist point. But of course, it the falls would be much far away compared to the Red rock point, but if your camera have certain zooming power, it's still ok to take closer look picture of the fall.

As elsewhere in the Park, when busy parking is scarce. The trail to the viwing area is smoothly paved, wide and with only moderate slopes. Expect to have plenty of company unless you visit in the early morning hours; the views are worth it though.

The most beautiful spot in Yellowstone! The entire park is something that everyone needs to see at least once. It is an amazing place!

The site of countless photos and paintings. The contrast of the blue sky, white water and yellow and tan canyon walls is amazing. Easy to see why it has inspired so many artists.

Very crowded as you'd expect but worth the trouble to fight the crowd. Parking lot is in two sections. Most don't realize that so it backs up at the first lot as people wait on others to leave to get their spot. Just drive on thru the first lot and head for the end of the second lot. Usually lots of parking spots there.

There’s a reason this place is the picture of Yellowstone for so many. It’s absolutely breathtaking! And it’s an excellent vantage point for those who have difficulty with heights, as you’re looking out over the canyon falls, instead of down!

Beautiful lighted canyon! So much to see! We absolutely loved the area and it was easy to access! Would highly recommend this stop!

The colors are amazing and the picture opportunities at the end are worth the short walk. Can be a bit crowded, but just relax and wait your turn for a picture spot to open and maybe talk someone into taking you pic for you. Great views.

Breathtaking views … a MUST see aptly named natural beauty!
Make sure that you have plenty of time and energy to visit this area as you can have areal views as well as very up close views of the waterfalls and the grand canyon of Yellowstone. Be prepared with hydration, good hiking shoes, rain gear (from water spray/mist) as well as trail safety items. Then, just enjoy this mother nature’s amazing creation that is still in process!

Arrive early, you will want to see this. The massive plunge of the Yellowstone river into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is not to be missed. You will remember all of the locations you visit during your time in Yellowstone, but this one will stand out. The wonder of the falls, the varied colors of the canyon walls, and the beauty of the viewing area combine into a vivid memory. Wonderful!

I could sit here forever and look at this view. It is spectacular and is the iconic view of the falls and the canyon.

This point offers gorgeous visats into the canyon with its varying shades of the eponymous yellow rock. You can also proceed from the viewpoint on natural trails for some hiking. Do not miss this spectacular view.

It’s hard to find words to describe how beautiful this area is. I had no idea that this existed in Yellowstone and I’m so glad we took the time to see this part of the park. Give yourself time to take in the beauty around Artist Point, you will not regret it.

These views are not to be missed so expect the world & his wife to be there. Parking can be an issue but most people only stay for 5/10 minutes so you’ll get a space eventually. It’s only a matter of steps from your car so almost anyone can benefit from this one, however you may spend a while waiting your turn to stand in front of the falls/canyon for photos. Now for my tip.....there’s an unmaintained trail nearer the car park (you can’t miss it, it has an information board at the trailhead). This leads to further viewpoints and beyond, the furthest being 8km. The trail isn’t demanding, just a slight elevation but there are very few people on this trail so, same views but in peace (apart from the mozzies). Just 1 word of warning though, This is classed as a back country trail as it not maintained, I would not advise using the trail unless armed with bear spray & following the standard ‘bear aware’ precautions.

What a beautiful view. There are a great many spots to stop at in the park but this one just WOW! Easy to get to and a nice spot to take a photo.

Must visit Artist Point to see magnificent view of the Lower falls and canyon created by the river.
Recommended to carry zoom lens.

Best view of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the iconic image of the Falls and canyon. If staying at Canyon Lodge it is only a few minutes drive...ARRIVE EARLY

Definitely worth the stop if you are in the Canyon Area of Yellowstone. No doubt middle of the day visits will be crowded -- People know this is a must see location (and the tour busses only add to the congestion). On several occasions I've visited around 7AM -- one time cameras were lined up along the viewpoint wall and it still seemed crowded but on my most recent visit I had all of Artist Point all to myself (for about 20 minutes). Take your time here, be sure to look and listen both directions as downstream the views of the canyon are just as spectacular.

We all agreed this is the best part of Yellowstone, Geysers are cool, but the view from Artis Point takes your breath away!

This was one of our favorite stops in Yellowstone! One of the best views anywhere in the world. We loved the easy of the walk with our 2 year old and the picturesque backdrop at every stop.

We were blown away by the beauty of this place. Beside awe inspiring canyon and falls it was the colors that make this a one of a kind natural wonder.

The view from here is spectacular! The pictures we took here are getting framed. The colors of the canyon are really beautiful!

This is a very busy place as all the visitors want to see it. It’s well worth the drive and wait for a parking spot. Several places to view it too. Nice.

Great stop to view the lower falls.
Tip... most people park at the start of the lower falls lot. Trailhead for lower falls brink trail. They also don’t stop again at this overlook so parking was easier to find

In my opinion this lookout point has the best view of the canyon and fall. It has a pretty large parking lot but was full of cars by noon.

Have been to Artist Point many time and am always AWED by the view. Its a short walk to Artist Point. There can be a rainbow at the falls if viewed in early morning. The colors are wonderful and the whole canyon if dramatic.

It was a climax of our hike along the Yellowstone river. Breathtaking. Most travelers come to the point by car but we recommend the hike

The view from this point is stunning, but because it’s such an easy walk from the parking lot, it gets very busy. Be sure to come as early as possible!

This is worth the stop and short walk to see the canyon and waterfalls! Our “Guide along “ app suggested we stop! So glad we did! Beautiful if the Grand Canyon and river you don’t get anywhere else in the park!
Good parking lots and easy walk.

If you are limited on time and want to to see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone this is the spot that you want to go to. It offers a great view of the canyon, river and waterfall.

There are two levels to view the falls. Check out both levels. The park has it set up so that photo taking is very easy.
There is a handicap accessible ramp available so that no one misses out. Parking can be a challenge. Just be patient as people pull in and out. It may seem like a long time to get into the lot but it is because people are waiting for a parking spot. Don’t turn around!

stunning views and breathing taking. I can see why its called artist point. It looks like a painting

There is a big parking lot at Artists Point and after a short walk you reach a viewing platform to have the best view of the Lower Falls. Go early or go after 3PM to beat the crowds.

If you are lucky to snag one of the small benches right before you climb the few stairs to the viewing platform—do it. Sit there and enjoy!

A must see stop in Yellowstone and enjoy all the viewpoints! Take photos a several vistas and enjoy various elevations. Words can't describe the sheer beauty and magnitude of this waterfall canyon!

We were lucky enough to visit the day after a snowfall, and the view was absolutely gorgeous. One of the prettiest natural scenes I've seen.

A short half mile hike to beautifully colored and steamy bubbling geyser pools. A walkway takes you above pool for great viewing and picture taking

Great overlook for a view up the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone but you had to fight your way through busloads of tourists to get anywhere near the edge for a photo

In the afternoon the sun is behind the falls making photos difficult. Go in the morning to midday for best shots

This review is as of June 6th - 11th in the area. The area may close down due to construction in the area and not be accessible anywhere for 15min to an hours. This is via the South Rim Drive (only access). (Visit the NPS website for the latest update on the project. (Ends next month, July 2018)
Now that you have the head's up continue on...
It is a beautiful spot. While many do the Artist Point circle, there are a few trails that will get you to some beautiful areas (Point Sublime). So if you have the time, and your kids do not complain (ha!) it will be worth it.

The view of the falls from this spot is incredible. I could sit there all day and just marvel at the beauty of the colors of the canyon walls and the falls itself. Some other views are closed for repair this year so don’t miss this spot!

Can truly understand why this is labeled Artists Point. You breath nearly stops seeing this view. When the sun hits it it’s like out of a fantasy movie. Perfect backdrop for pictures. There were alot of people the day we went but it was worth stopping.

I went here very early in the morning to make sure I could socially distance. It’s a truly beautiful spot. The whole park is great but this area is really nice. Great spot for pictures. Didn’t see any artists.

This is the most famous of the view points along the South Rim. I highly recommend walking from the Uncle Tom's Trail parking lot to Artist Point along the South Rim Trail for a nice short, easy hike.

It is as beautiful as you have seen from the "artist" photos. It truly is breath-taking! Even in September after a long hot summer, and the colors more yellows and brown, it is amazing. I really wanted to see it, and am so glad we did. One thing - as we were driving toward it from the north (Tower-Roosevelt) there was a sign for the North Rim - and it mentioned upper and lower falls - I was a a bit confused and thought that might be the access to Artist's Point. It is not. If you have limited time, opt for Artists Point, the north rim doesn't have the greatest views and you have to hike for a while down a path to get any significant views. If you are 65+ and not much of a hiker - skip it.

Of all the things we saw in the park (including Teton), this was hands down the most beautiful. This is a must-see in my opinion. If you follow past the viewing point, you get many more breathtaking angles of the canyon. Unfortunately, one in our party suffers from a fear of heights, and hiking along the rim was too much for her. Also, hang onto your kids - sheer drops! And be warned - if you decide to continue along the trail to hike up to Silver Cord, near Ribbon Lake. This was a strenuous trail in some places, and not recommended to those with health issues. We were disappointed (as were others) that the trail dead ended. You could see the lake through the trees, but no waterfall? No signs or anything to tell you where to go. Pretty frustrating, since I am not an avid hiker.

This is one of the most beautiful views in the park. Make sure you don’t miss this view. Great photo opportunities!!

The trail to this viewing area is an easy walk (technically called a hike but most of it is paved). The view is stunning and one that you see on many postcards and photos published of the park. It does not disappoint! The parking is do-able but takes a bit of patience if there in the middle of the day. The point is also a trailhead for a few trails.

Artist point is at the eastern end of the South Rim drive with the biggest parking lot along the Canyon. However, don't think you'll find your spot easily.
From the parking lot, it's just an easy 5 min walk to one of the most spectacular views - you see the entire canyon all the way to the western end where're the Lower Falls.

My wife and I hiked the Upper and Lower Falls hikes. If you are moderatly in shape you can do these hikes. Go early in the morning to beat the crowds. Wear proper hiking clothes such as layers in clothes, hiking boots, hiking sticks etc. You want be dissapointed at the end.

This spot is beautiful and you can see why it is called artists point. Do the short hike to get the best view from the outlook. It is a small drive off the main loop but worth the detour.

The view of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the falls from Artist Point is stunning. It's unfortunate that several other viewing points were closed but this one was a winner! It's easy and convenient for those who can't hike long distances.

We went to Artist’s Point to see the falls in the Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone. Uncle Tom’s was closed for a new parking lot build. The parking area at Artist’s Point is big but still easily accessible to the overlooks. All is ADA accessible for people. The views in both directions are gorgeous. Restroom area is marginal compared to some other stops. Well worth the time to make this a special stop. Will take less than an hour. There is a hiking trail from this point, but it is quite rugged.

Despite needing to wait for parking and the area being really crowded, this is a must stop at Yellowstone. It really is quite beautiful. From one side of the lookout (easy, short walk) you see beautiful, colorful canyon walls and on the other side there is a wider part of the canyon and the Lower Falls.
We spent about 4 days in Yellowstone and this was easily the prettiest spot that we visited.

This is just another of the amazingly beautiful features of Yellowstone Park. Everything is beautiful but different at every bend in the road.

At the end of the South Rim road. The viewpoint is only yards from the car park but it is so crowded. Everyone comes here & quite right too. The view of Lower Falls which is a mile away is as good as any you can get with an uninterrupted view of the river all the way to the falls. The other way you get great views of the North Canyon walls and the colours in the rocks are stunning down to the thermal activity. The walk to sublime point starts here too.

We have enjoyed views from the various viewpoints around the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the various falls, but this one is always our favorite. The only negative is how busy it is.

This view is spectacular! There are so many things to see throughout Yellowstone! Artist’s Point could definitely inspire artists!

Simply breathtaking. Great spot to take photographs and admire the view. Gets very popular at sunset. Sunrise is a good time for taking photos

This was not on my list of must see attractions in Yellowstone, but I’m so glad we stopped to see it! The rainbow of the falls is gorgeous. There are a lot of people. A lot. And everyone wants a picture in the exact same spot. It’s the only downfall but it’s worth seeing. Go early.

Artist Point is probably the best overlook from which to view the Lower Falls and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Amazing views!

The views of Artist Point and the canyon are beautiful. Worth the stop to walk the short levels down for amazing views. If you later go across to the Top of Yellowstone falls & also lower YS falls you see Artist Point from the other side of the Canyon. Easy drive. Entrances are not well marked for those 2. If you use Gaper Guide which goes off of your GPS it will alert you to turn. Gives you so much information about the whole park all along your days there. We’ve used that guide 2x. Well worth it & easy to use. It’s an App now & Much cheaper than it was previously when there was a box to rent. It’s great for ALL of YS.

A great place to view the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Not that far of a walk down to the viewpoint from the parking lot. It is very crowded even though it was mid September when we were there.

This is the most beautiful spot w. a good overview area. We hiked to Point Sublime from there, great

Beautiful and easy to access. You can park within a block of the site with an easy walk to the point - and it is worth much more. When planning all the places you want to see in Yellowstone include this. It is centrally located so you will drive by whether you are seeing the geysers in the south, the mudpots and fumeroles at Norris, or the wildlife valley in the north.

We really enjoyed this view. What more can you say that has not already been said. We got alot of good ahots

Not much to say, other than that it's one of the best must see places in Yellowstone, with incredible views. I'd argue that it's in the top 5 of most photographed places in the park, which also means it's very busy.
There's a large car park nearby, with wheelchair accessibility.
It would be madness to visit Yellowstone and not make your way to Artist Point.

This area is open even in early spring and is worth the effort to drive to. There are trails and parking on both the north and south sides of the canyon. However, if time limited just go to the south rim drive and follow the signage to Artist Point. It is a very short walk from the parking lot to several absolutely beautiful viewpoints....the end of the walking trail has the best views. You will love and remember this scenic beauty.

My favorite part of Yellowstone. The most beautiful view I’ve ever seen. Almost seemed unreal. There were two artists sketching away. We went in beginning of November, two days before the park closed for winter. It was cold and snowy during that time. Wish I could have seen it again before I left. Hope to return again one day.

The place is lovely, wasn't very difficult to find parking. The walk to the view point has incline & decline. We hiked to the top of the falls too. Nice place.

We had great sunny weather and it was lovely to see the canyon and the falls. Can't imagine what the summer crowds are like!

Gorgeous! Just when you think you won’t find something new or surprisingy at Yellowstone you stumble upon gems like Artists Point! Take your time, stroll around & enjoy something new:)

This is a short walk from the parking lot and tends to be very busy. It is worth the wait though. Beautiful landscape and multiple photo opportunities from the many vantage points along this trail.

Every step along the way at this site is picture worthy! Definitely worth the time to stop and see! Don't forget your camera!

this spot is easy to get to and you have lots of room to linger...nice benches etc. There is nothing but good in the world from this point!

You look at the scenery in wonder what planet am I on? It's just surreal.hence why its artist point.

A must see site, but get there early or you will have to queue to park. If you like walking there are some beautiful trails. We did a three hour walk through varied and stunning scenery.

This is a great view and definitely worth the trip. Parking is tough but with patience you’ll be fine.

This is a view that anyone can appreciate since it's so accessible. It draws a huge crowd, but boy was the view spectactular. There's a reason it's called Artist's Point, worth fighting the crowds.

This is another must see location in Yellowstone. It is an easy walk and well worth the time to visit..... don’t miss out!

To me, this was the most gorgeous view in the park. It was well worth the small hike to get to the Point. One hint, go early and beat the crowds. Parking is limited.

Popular spot with an amazing view of the waterfall and canyon. Easy parking during our fall visit. 5 minute walk to the overlook. If you have to pick one stop at the canyon this would be it.

It is a nice viewpoint for the waterfall, but very crowded and far away.
A good place for photos and overview of the area

As far as viewpoints go in Yellowstone, this is a must do. The colors and the dramatic falls would be enough for the best visual experience and photo op, but when looking at our pictures with the contrast of the river and the canyon walls, they almost look like professional paintings. (I don't have an expensive camera with multiple lenses, by the way.)

Wow. The whole point is Artists Point is that it appears that nature has painted the canyon. The sunlight. The shadows. The time of day. The angle you look. The picture evolves and changes.
Worth the time. Easy parking. 15 min walk

This stop according to our guide was located at the end of South Rim Drive. There is a clear path to the point with stone steps and railings. If you’re in a wheelchair you can only go so far because of the steps. There is no restroom at this attraction. The view is worth it!

I enjoyed the view with my family. A bit crowded and had to elbow in to get the best photo angles but great to see first thing in the morning.

There are lot of cars and people. The lookout to the valley is beautiful and colorful. You can see a lower falls too.

One of the best views of Lower Falls by far. Easy access, short walk, great place to get a good picture.

Most beautiful spot which is picturess like awork of a teal artist. God. It is the place in which you see the grand canyon of yellowstone and the fall. No body can realy paint it.

Everything that the pictures look like, can't capture the beauty of seeing the same person, add-on seeing an occasional rainbow and this is a must do attraction.

At the end of South Rim Drive, with ample parking and facilities to enjoy the view, it is not to be missed. You can start there and then retrace your steps to make the other views before moving on to the other side.

Artist Point offers a great vantage to view the falls. They were spectacular when we visited in June due to the large amount of snow melt. go in early morning or evening to avoid the crowds and get a parking spot.

If you stand on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and look at its grand waterfall, which is Lower Falls, you will see a steamy canyon glowing brilliant with pastel yellow, pink and orange with broken patches of green.
The 308-foot (93.9-m) Lower Falls can be seen from various points on the South Rim Trail e.g. Lookout Point, Red Rock Point, Artist Point .... etc. The most notable and popular and accessible being the Artist Point. Instantly it will reward you an exceptional perspective of canyon’s most famous feature, the 308-foot Lower Falls. The viewpoint juts out from the south wall of the canyon and is just a short 0.1-mile walk from South Rim Drive. Beyond the paved trail, if you continue hiking (certainly you’ll do), along the south rim of the canyon you’ll reach Point Sublime.
Many people think that this was the spot where famous artist Thomas Moran painted his famous paintings: The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Yellowstone’s Lower Falls. Yellowstone Park photographer F. Jay Haynes thought the same thing. However, Moran's paintings were actually created at the north rim overlook named Moran Point.
So Artist Point is an overlook point on the edge of a cliff on the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The point is located east-northeast of Yellowstone Falls on the Yellowstone River. Lean over the rock walls of a cliff 700 feet over the Yellowstone River and you will instantly freeze at the sight of the immense canyon with spectacular and multi-variant relief and geographical features. And you will immediately realize why Thomas Moran got inspired! At the same time you’ll feel the awesome erosive strength of the Yellowstone River!
This is a perfect spot to take your family vacation photo! The hike is 0.2 miles round trip with 50 feet of elevation change. No permit is required to hike to Artist Point, so get out and enjoy!

Wonderful waterfall views. One of the most picturesque spots in Yellowstone to look out at nature’s glory.

to see the rainbow in the water is awe inspiring. Beautiful area to see. A lot of photo opportunities

This place looks too perfect to be real. Therevare so many colors and elements to the photos its hard to describe. You gotta see it to believe it.

Will strongly recommend to drive through South Rim Drive to have the best location to take pictures of the waterfalls. When taking the south rim drive you will have access to two top viewpoints, one is Uncle Tom's trail (that is currently closed) and the artist point which is our preferred view point.

Breathtaking site that should be experience by everyone, especially families with children. School pics and history lessons don’t do this justice.

A beautiful point where you can see a waterfall flowing in all its power and full glory. there are many different points and angles from which you can view the waterfall and definitely worth a stop

Stopped by Artist Point to get a good look at the falls. It was very beautiful and worth the stop! Unfortunately, a busload of people also arrived at the same time we did, so our ability to marvel at the views was cut short.

We went during peak season and the key I found to Yellowstone was to see the "big" attractions between 7:30 to 10:30 am or after 5:30 pm. Otherwise, there is not nearly enough parking. When we left Artist's Point around 12:00, there was a 40-car back-up. The view is worth it. The hike to Point Sublime had nice views as well (actually my whole family thought the hike had better views than Point Sublime itself), but watch your step, there is rarely a guardrail and if you go off the edge, it's a 300-foot drop. If you are just going to Artist Point, it's only a 20-minute visit once you park your car.

Nice parking lot at the end of the South Rim Drive. There is a short paved walkway out to the end. Here you will find a huge multitiered observation area where each level is better than the last. It got its name from a famous painting by Thomas Moran. Best time to visit is early in the morning for best light, but we were there about noon and it was glorious. We were going to go back in the morning but it was so foggy when we left Canyon Lodge, there was no way we could see anything. One of the highlights of our trip, for sure.

Do not miss this under any circumstance. If anything this tops things the park is more famous for. View of the falls is just breathtaking.

Went in the shoulder season (late September) and even then it was quite crowded by the time my hiking tour arrived. There's a reason it's called Artists point - so much beauty to take in.

Get there early because this place fills up fast, like most areas of the park. Nice view of the lower falls.

Artist Point offers up a fantastic view of the falls and canyon. There are multiple views like this on the north and south loop however here at artist point you can really capture that iconic image. Plenty of parking and other trails to venture.

In the Smithsonian there's a painting of the view from this point. This painting played a key role in the formation of Yellowstone National Park. I promise you'll love the views from this point! If you have the time and are you for a little hike check out the trail between the Artist Point parking lot towards Uncle Tom's parking lot. It travels along the rim offer fantastic views.

You need your camera for this stop. It is worth the wait in traffic and parking to see this. Highlight of my trip.

It gets tedious describing sights in Yellowstone as beautiful, but they all are. Artist Point and it's view of the waterfall and Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is no exception. It is crowded, especially around 4:00pm, but make sure you stop and view it. You will not be disappointed. The trees are growing out of sheer cliffs while the waterfall creates a river through the Canyon it formed ages ago. I don't know if you will be able to actually be able to set up an easel, but for the photographer in all of, make a memory with your camera and then put the camera away and just enjoy the beauty.

Take the trail if you want to get away from the crowds for an even better view of the canyon. Many lookouts with scenic views but pretty hard to park. There is a bathroom in the parking lot though.

Artists Point located on the South Rim, is one of the busiest parts of the park. It is probably the most visited of the Yellowstone Grand Canyon overlooks. And rightly so, the views from here are absolutely incredible. Definitely a primo selfie spot! But, expect it to be crowded.
If you want to minimize the crowds to maximize this experience, do what we did. We visited Yellowstone the third week of September. There are about half the tourists here compared to the summer months. The other strategy is to get here early. Very early. We left our hotel at the crack of dawn. There were still many tourists here, but it was manageable. It also beats the tour buses which really clog up this area.
You also need to be patient. Many people setup camera tripods, and there were only a few “holes” in the prime areas for the rest of us to take pictures. But if you persevere, you will get some great shots. If you're not patient, there is an area to the left, before you get to the official viewing platform where you can sneak some stunning natural shots of the lower falls, without the crowds!
We weren’t able to visit Uncle Tom’s Point which was unfortunately still closed for construction. But, we did visit the viewpoints on the North Rim, including the Brink of the Lower Falls, Lookout Point, Grandview, and Inspiration Point. Each of these views gave a different view of the gorge and the Lower Falls, and every different view was amazing. Some tourists skip these views and only go to Artists Point. What a huge mistake! Spend the time to explore these other views. You won’t be disappointed!
We are so glad we spent a couple of hours here to enjoy the many exquisite views of Yellowstone Canyon. If you love beautiful scenic views, you’ll love this part of Yellowstone!

Had no problem finding a parking spot here 4pm on a Sunday late June. About 6 tour busses at end of lot and more seemed to just cycle in and out during our brief visit here. Crowded walk down to the viewpoint...maybe just 50 yards or so with some steps. Once there though, be prepared to be man handled, jostled, shoved, sidearmed with polite but clearly forceful “scuse me” or “so sorry” as a seemingly endless bunch of tourists who have offloaded take first an isolated photo of one person, then another in front of the view. Good luck elbowing your way in to the front near the brick wall to get a photo. It is not serene or peaceful at all and you lose any sense of wonder or amazement. If I had to do it all over I’d go at 8am or 8pm. Otherwise you time may be better spent viewing the falls from another trail or viewpoint.

Artist’s point offers the best views of the Canyon walls and the falls. It offers the classic image. If you time it right you can see a rainbow over the falls - sunny day at around 9.45. Bigger parking lot but not too busy.

The colors here are beautiful and I can see how it got the name artist point. We could see animal trails in the red wall across from where we were standing. Many people here but worth the stop

Try to travel here after Labor Day if you want a parking space in a finite amount of time. But the wait for parking and the walk to the viewpoint are worth it.

One of the highlights of Yellowstone that should not be missed is Artist’s point. Wait for parking you will be glad you did. Try all the angles and perspectives.

Best picture without the shadows is at sunrise. Have to be there by 6, by 6:30 too many shadows. Was there with just a few other photographers, no crowds to contend with.

Definitely one of the must see areas and was a great hike! Be patient when trying to find parking as well as dealing with crowds. Once you are on the trail, the crowds will become less and less.

Was the best view of the Grand Canyon in yellow stone! Absolutely beautiful…was pretty crowded but not to bad. Highly recommend visiting it

It is no wonder how this area got its name. With the vivid colors from the pools and geysers, an artist will have a field day here.

One of the singularly most scenic vantage points in the entire park. You won't want to miss this. (Be prepared for crowds.)

Highly recommend going as early as possible for minimum crowds what a view it's just beautiful easy to find parking was easy

Fun stop as you are hiking the south rim trail. Definitely photo opportunities with interesting colors and a big drop off.

We drove on the South Rim first and saw this view! WOW! The picture of this view was in our hotel room!

The sights are simply awe-inspiring - just as impressive is the sound of the falls in the distance.
The color of the canyon in the morning sunlight offers a different line of sight than at mid-day or in the afternoon.
Despite the quantities of people, this is a special place to enjoy the sights.

Best time to visit one hour before sunset or early in the morning. It is beter to drive there with a car.

This view point is easy to reach, you can catch the amazing view point only a few minutes walk from the parking lot. Good to family with baby and old age.

We stopped at many scenic overlooks of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Artist Point was a clear favorite. The vantage point for the waterfalls and the walls of the Canyon were just magnificent. And compared to most of the other waterfall overlooks, this one had the fewest stairs to climb which was a welcome relief. Don't miss this one!

Beautiful and just an amazing view but EVERYONE is there and it’s super crowded. Lots of foreign tourists with tripods. You gotta see it and can get to it from a hiking trail near Uncle Tom’s point

In 8 trips I have never tired of see the Falls from it's many viewing points. If you plan at least half a day there it is great. If not, just go to Artist point and take pictures with the crowd. People take turns and even non-English speaking folks get the routine and participate.

This was our first stop in the park this morning. Could have stayed longer but we were on a tour bus. It is so amazing.

Best view of the waterfalls which is spectacular. Yellowstone is an amazing place and would highly recommend

When you locate parking which is very difficult during peak times, Artist Point makes you say...Wow...this is the place. The many colors displyed by nature almost overwhelm the senses and make you feel welcome. The number of visitors trying to get that group photo or just the right photo is like being at the mall during a busy holiday season, however there are moments that make any inconveniences that are experienced worthwhile.

Thought we might be able to see “paint pots” which implied lots of color. Nope. Saw a few non colorful pools sprinkled in a gravelly area. I’d pass on this one if you don’t have a lot of time.

Artist Point is one of the iconic views in Yellowstone for a reason. It's n
ot to be missed as you tour around the park.

Please don’t misunderstand, the Point is still utterly fabulous and my clients were grateful I made sure we saw it against all odds. However, the odds against you and I may be great for the rest of this summer and next summer too.
All last summer, 2017, the Uncle Tom’s Trail and it’s parking lot and the South Rim Trail were closed for reconstruction. I understand, mostly. However, they were working on Inspiration Point at the same time. I realize that safety and decaying infrastructure must be addressed. But all last summer the visitors who wanted to see those attractions and couldn’t completely glutted Artist Point and the North Rim Road. Traffic was often backed up more than a kilometer out. This is a must see place, like Old Faithful. Thus, a longer day was required.
Note to all Yellowstone visitors: please plan on no less than 3 days. You will save yourselves a great deal of stress.
That was last year. Two days ago, something was amiss on the North Rim so it was closed around 3:00 p.m. Traffic was backed up 2 km to get into Artist Point. Once we got into the lot, we found there were parking spaces. What was going on? Instead of doing traffic control and directing drivers to move around Instead of stopping and waiting, a ranger with a clipboard was noting the congestion. I expect the data gathered will help in the long run, because it’s going to get worse. But in the short run, it was bad. It’s not even July yet, when they will close down the Upper Falls parking lot THROUGH summer 2019, before Uncle Tom’s is finished. I am on the rangers side here. But there are too many projects being run concurrently so that the visitors’ experience is being eroded. And the superintendent who saw there maybe too many visitors and voiced his concern to the Dept. of Interior is being made to leave his post.
Artist Point is still amazing, simply incredible. But In order to enjoy it, please get there early. You won’t regret it. Old Faithful has a huge parking lot, to best serve all who wish to see it. You can enjoy it after Canyon. (Midway Geyser Basin? Another day. You have to arrive there early too or walk in from a km. out. That works.)
I do not mean to sound alarming. But it was the worst congestion I had seen short of a tree across the road or a bus or a fire in 27 years of guiding. The early bird gets the waterfall.

Wow is all I can say! This point offers a great view of the beauty the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. A person can see why TR was influenced to make this the first national park just by this point

Located in the Yellowstone Canyon, this place is an absolute gem. Great sunrise location, it is best experienced when it is not cloudy or crammed with people. Get there earlier in the day to avoid the crowd. It is also a photographer’s, poet’s, and painter’s paradise - hence the name Artist Point!

I stood there, looking what was happening.
There was hot springs going up.
We saw lots of hot springs. It was so beautiful.
The ground was mostly red.
This is gorgeous!
It looks like an artist had painted the environment.

This spot is so special. It is so awe-inspiring. I see why this view played a major role in shaping the national parks as we know it today.
There were a lot of people here, but not too many that we couldn't still just enjoy this beautiful place.

Wow! The only word I can come up with for this sight! Most amazing place ever, and if you go to Yellowstone, you do NOT want to miss seeing this waterfall! Beautiful scenery all around. Stunning views. An absolutely must see!

I spent two hours here Plein air painting an amazing experience with lots of 7-9 year old girls asking me questions. I actually had an offer on the spot to buy the painting but it wasn’t for sale.

Close to Canyon Village it is on the South Rim of the canyon and can get very busy. P
Spectacular views make this a must stop.

We where there very early in the morning and there was a artist at work. He was making a painting and it was beautiful. We talked to him and we had a very good conversation.

Beautiful short walk down to the Point. I urge patience-it's very crowded-lots of tour buses even early in the day.

The colorful rock formations mixed with the grandeur of the canyon and waterfalls make this a must see stop in Yellowstone no matter how crowded the area might be.

Simply breath taking views. You feel like this can't possibly be real, but it is! Be ready for crowds, even in September, but buses will will come & go & you'll get a chance for viewing & photos. Lot's to see besides the waterfalls, but it is pretty awesome ❣️

You can see why the painting of this waterfall/canyon helped create Yellowstone NP. Words really can't describe all that you can feast your eyes on here.
It's just a very short walk to the viewpoint from the parking lot (which was easily reached during a September off-season visit but is probably much more crowded earlier in the summer). During our time there visitors were easily able to remain COVID-distanced and still get their photos. This is one place where you might just kick yourself for not bringing a tripod. You'll understand...
A nice view of the downriver canyon area is also just a quick walk from the point and there's also a path to a lake (about a mile's hike) available from the parking lot.

Has one of the most spectacular views, natural wonder area in Yellowstone National Park, the parking lot is large.

Artist Point got its name from Thomas Moran's paintings of this area. His paintings helped convince Congress to set aside Yellowstone as a National Park. Moran painted the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Look at the color of the rocks. This is how Yellowstone got its name.

Spectacular nature in waterfalls emptying into the winding Yellowstone river surrounded by a pastel canyon... it was spiritual!

There is no better spot to view the falls than Artist Point, but it can get crowded. Most people wore a mask, but not all. And not everyone was social distancing. The walk is a bit longer to see the falls than from Uncle Tom's Point.

The lower part of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon trail is closed for the 2018 summer season for re-construction. Artist Point gives you a beautiful view of Yellowstone Falls.

My grandmother was an artist and painted Yellowstone Falls many years ago. That painting hangs in my living room and reminds me to make regular trips, especially to artist point in Yellowstone. It’s a fabulous view of Yellowstone falls!

Viewpoint to see the waterfall and the colors of the canyon! There are always people but in September a little less so you enjoyed a beautiful view!

Hard to say much more than has already been said in all the previous reviews. A must see when you visit Yellowstone. One piece of advice, if you want the Sublime Trail, you only need to go about halfway. The views beyond this aren't worth the effort. Too many other great hikes in Yellowstone.

Well worth all the trouble to find and go . Car parks large but get very busy . Glad it was fine weather to enjoy.

Located at the East end of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, it's interesting jagged rock formations that lead to stunning all around views. I see why it has its name. Several view points to see in the area. One of the last stops you will make around d the Yellowstone loop.

Perfect name for this spot. Stunning views of the falls. Best time to me is early in the morning. We also walked from there up the Ribbon Lake Trail to Point Subline. Fantastic views of the colorful valley and river along the entire trail.

The most popular area to view the canyon and falls that everyone in your party can do. You will get out of the car and right to the viewing area, not much hiking at all. This is also the most popular spot to view the falls and canyon, which it did not disappoint. A must stop in Yellowstone!

Place where one of the pioneers who explored the park painted a picture of one of the waterfalls. One of the most visited places in the park. Fantastic view.

I have the picture you see here (as do millions of others), the rainbow off the falls. It is one of the emblematic Yellowstone pictures. Very easy to walk to, and to drive to. Can be crowded so you may want to plan early or late in the day. If the photo is what you are looking for be careful about time of day and the location of the sun.

The view from Artist Point is like sensory overload. Directly in front of you are the towering multicolored walls of rock that extend from the river’s edge up towards the sky. Looking left, you will witness one of the most iconic and beautiful images from Yellowstone - the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, plunging down into the narrow canyon below. If you are serious about photography, I recommend a visit that coincides with the sun’s position so you are not disappointed (photographing the falls looking into the sun). There is decent parking available here along with restrooms. Several hiking trails begin from here although they don’t seem to be maintained and may pose difficult for inexperienced hikers.

Not to be missed! Amazing views all around. And an easy walk to the observation areas. It gets you up close and personal.

Artist Point will take your breath away! Do NOT miss stopping here. It was hard for us to tear ourselves away from the view.

It was so pretty but the park sincerely lacks go signs. Lots of wildlife but not a lot of pull outs in this area. CONSTRUTION on the East side of the park!!!

Yeah, this was one of the most spectacular views of the Canyon. It is very popular and very busy at most times of the day. After hitting the points of interest on the North Rim in the afternoon, we ate dinner and hit the points that were open along the South Rim as the sun began to set. Wow! Incredible views from here for sure. Make this a must stop. This is an easy overlook to get to (no real hiking like Brink of the Lower Falls) so anyone can get to the point. We got some real good family pictures here and will certainly remember this as a favorite point in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

We went later in the day and it was not too busy. You don't see the rainbow then but it is still the most amazing view. DO NOT miss this out!!

Each time we visit Yellowstone National park I love to visit Artist Point. The colors, cliffs, and wild grandeur cannot be appreciated unless you perssonally see it for yourself.

when visiting the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone you can view it from the south or north side. Do both, but know that the best views will be from the south rim. Awesome! Definitely worth a visit while in the park

This part of the park (not too far from Canyon Lodge) has one of the most spectacular views anywhere. Very easy to access from the parking lot and definitely not to be missed. Lovely waterfalls.

Great views and changing colors of the cliffs make this a must stop in Yellowstone National Park. Take your time and enjoy the view.

Absolutely beautiful, don’t sleep on this stop. I didn’t expect it to be one of my favorite stops but it really was. It’s very easy to get to the viewing platform and the view is stunning. I’m terribly afraid of heights and this was very doable for me.

A feast for the eyes. A must see when you go to Yellowstone. Spectacular views. I didn't have a chance to walk the trails but I'm sure they too are spectacular.

So many ways for an artist to find inspiration in this park, this area is just one of the many. Great vies though!

Early morning has the best light and fewest crowds. A sight that will have you just repeating "WOW" over and over again.

A stunning view. Easily accessible by car with parking very close to the viewing area - but also trails if you prefer to hike. It is really beautiful and a "must see" at the park.

This is on the opposite side of the canyon and a nice view, but honestly not that much different from the canyon side. It was also much more crowded with tour groups and instagram junkies.

See my Grand Canyon review. Go in the morning between 8:30 and 8:45 AM to see the rainbow at the falls.

We crossed Chittenden bridge across the Yellowstone river; stopping first at Uncle Toms to view the smaller upper Falls, then on to Artist Point to view the MAGNIFICENT lower falls and the unbelievable colors of the canyon. It is IMPOSSIBLE to describe the majesty of this waterfall and canyon colors, so we will not even try,

One of the most scenic Photo-Ops in the USA. We were backed up for over 30 minutes, because there were more buses than Bus Parking Spaces, They were parking every where. Plenty of car spaces, but hard to get to. The lines to the toilets were 50 deep or more. Anyway very crowded, but a beautiful place.

Artist Point is easily accessible on the south side of the Yellowstone River, and offers unparalleled views of the Lower Falls and the canyon below. From the ample parking area there is an easy, short walk on pavement to the main viewing areas’ a bit of a down slope but not steep, and only a few stairs at the end. There are a couple of different lookout points with great views of the falls. Porta-potties adjacent to the parking area. In early September this spot was very crowded, and finding a parking place took a few minutes.

I cant image that this trail can get bad reviews. This is the most stunning and beautiful place i have visited in a while! I will write in capital to be sure you get it, VISIT WHEN YOU ARE CLOSE TO THE YELLOWSTONE PARK! ITS AMAZING! (Especially if you like nature)

We skipped the canyon as lightning clapped overhead and an intense rain washed the canyon. That was probably a wise decision, because the canyon in the glow of a morning sun was beautiful and empty, except for a herd of elk who meandered on the slopes across the canyon. The colors were breathtaking.

Just a short walk from where you can park to get to this overlook. Awesome views of the canyon and the Falls.

Incredible and colorful. Hike in or drive to the parking lot and walk along the rim to see it all. the canyon and fast flowing river at the bottom or the beautiful waterfalls are worth the visit.

Must see for this is the iconic foto often seen of Yellowstone Falls and canyon. It is an easy walk from the parking area and must take the south rim drive. if you have limited time make sure to include this stop

Artist point is absolutely stunning. The falls are beautiful. The canyon is equally beautiful. it's called the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and is quite "grand" but much different that the actual Grand Canyon. This is a busy attraction but there are plenty of spots to view the canyon from. There are stairs involved with getting to the different viewing areas so this area wouldn't be too friendly to those with mobility issues, although there would be some vantage points that would be accessible. The parking is ample here so no worries there. This stop is an absolute must see!

We spent most of one day in this area and this is one place that is not to be missed even if you are just spending a short time here.

Plenty of parking available, buses and RV's have special spaces. Short walk on asphalt surface, some stairs at the very end. The stairs bring you to a higher view point not really necessary to see the view that made Congress agree to make this fantastic national park.

We arrived just in time for the ranger nad a talk about the spot and the history of the park; we loved it. there were so many beautiful points that we were just in awe

All of the viewpoints are worth doing but this is one of the best.
You can see why it is called Artists Viewpoint because of the colours of the Canyon are great from here.

Get to Artist Point early. The beauty is incredible and well worth the drive. There can be a back up for parking, so be patient. I saw many people turn around within about 5 minutes of Artist Point without seeing it. Ranger talks are very interesting. Kids will love the Junior Ranger program at the park.

The waterfall was an amazing sight!!! I would definitely go back there again. So many beautiful photos! Next time your in Yellowstone stop by for a visit.

we had already seenthe lower falls from Lookout Point. Te view from Artist Point was no better, but it was crowded. Lookout was not crowded!

Don't overlook any chance to stop and see nature's beauty at Yellowstone. Another favorite, this area fills up quickly with guests. Time it right for early or late to get parking and enjoy moving around as much as possible.

one of the must stop spot within the park. it is just beautiful, you have to see it yourself. come at different times if you can. the light changes the color of canyon.

Bring your camera. The views are spectacular. If you have time, hike up to Point Sublime. It's moderately strenuous--500' elevation change over ~2.5 miles. At Point Sublime, the views of the canyon change... they "yellow stone" transitions to green.

With a view this stunning, everyone's photo is going to turn out gorgeous. It is just like the paintings. So pretty!
I would recommend getting here early (before 10 AM). The earlier, the better because of the light. But even close to 10 AM, the crowds can be lower and the light is still very nice. This was one of the highlights of our trip.

Grand canyon of yellowstone - artist point has a breathtaking view, try not to miss it if your visiting Yellowstone. It's natural wonder with approximately 20 miles of Long and 1000 feet deep canyon.

A must. One of Yellowstone’s natural wonders. Awesome in every way. Impressive!!!! Be sure that you view this site. Take pictures to remember this experience.

My favorite view of the River, canyon, and waterfall. It isn’t called Artist’s Point for nothing. It is the image often photographed of the canyon. It changes color depending on the time of day. Morning light is probably the best. But, it is lovely any time of day.

Enjoyed this stop. The hike was easy. Parking is tough and crowded. There are park rangers on staff and they give talks about the area throughout the day. Very informative.

The most famous place to see the canyon and lower falls. It is an easy walk from the parking lot to see this beautiful view of lower falls and the canyon. If you only have time or energy for one stop at the canyon and/or falls this is the one you want.

an easy walk to the over look and awesome views of the fall and canyon make this a must see. plenty of parking even with tour buses.

My wife and I viewed the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone from Artist Point. The walk from the parking lot to the viewpoint is a short one but the rewards are worth the effort. Plan on arriving early because the viewpoint isn't particularly large and it gets crowded.
Plan on spending 45-90 minutes here, longer if you visit during peak hours.

Iconic views of falls and canyon can be seen from here with short walk from parking area. This is a must see in the canyon area.

I almost didn't stop to visit. The first day, I passed the turn. I decided to stop on day 2 of my visit and I'm glad I did. Although crowded and almost difficult to find a parking spot, the views were worth the stop. It's like a mini grand canyon and there's a waterfall. I couldn't see the rainbow that randomly appears. It was a bit too crowded for my liking and most were not wearing masks. I stayed back and took what photos I could.

This was a really cool unique stop on our trip to Yellowstone. Very unique with steamy pools of pastel colors. Easy hike to the top overlooking the pools.

We stopped to see this lovely area, which we were almost going to skip as it was the end of a long day. Glad we took the extra time, as the views were beautiful. We didn't do any real hikes, but hope to on another trip. So pretty!

Artist Point is an awe-inspiring destination. Situated on the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, the point offers stunning views of the canyon and the majestic Lower Yellowstone Falls.
The viewpoint is easily accessible and well-marked, with a large parking lot just a short walk away from the viewpoint. The trail leading to the point is lined with beautiful trees and wildflowers. The falls cascade down 308 feet into the canyon below, creating a magnificent display of water and mist that is truly mesmerizing. The colorful rock formations of the canyon walls add to the stunning scenery

If you can't stop at every single one of the lookout points - and I hope you can - but if you can only go to one - go to this one. The most stunning vista I have ever seen!

It was just okay. Avoid if you are short of time. Not worth it. Do it only if you have lot of time at hand. I would recommend doing this early in the day or late in the evening as it gets way too hot.

I wrote a review of the Canyon and it should have been specifically of this, Artists Point. Parking is difficult, but just about everyone can handle this feature and it doesn't take a long or difficult time to get there. The waterfall is stunning.

We drove to this viewpoint which was painted in the past by artists to attract visitors to Yellowstone. It was a beautiful viewpoint.

The Lower Falls are by far the biggest waterfall in Yellowstone, and the 308-foot-tall waterfall is reportedly the second most photographed attraction in Yellowstone, with Old Faithful being first. There are numerous views of the Falls from both the east and west sides of the river and most require only a short walk or virtually no walk at all to get a great view. Over my lifetime I’ve been to Yellowstone 5-6 times, and I think this is probably my most favorite spot. And yes, I know with all the unique spots in Yellowstone, it’s a hard choice to pick just one. We liked it so much that we purchased a Thomas Moran Giclee Print (reproduction that is painted on canvas) that we had framed and hung right above the sofa in our living room. Moran painted his famous view of the Lower Falls (technically from the other side of the river) after accompanying the Hayden Expedition in a federally funded geological survey of Yellowstone in 1871. The painting came to the attention of the U.S. Government and was very influential when Congress considered the Yellowstone National Park Bill of 1871. Yellowstone was established as the first national park in the United States in March 1872, and Moran's painting was subsequently purchased by the government and hung in the US Capitol until 1950. It was then transferred to the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum where it still hangs. The Lower Falls area is located just to the east of Canyon Village campground which is a great place to stay if you are camping. Don’t make a trip to Yellowstone without visiting the Lower Falls. (PaM)

This has to be the most gorgeous view in the park. There is a reason why it is called Artist Point. You can see so many colors. There are different viewing areas to spread out the crowds.

Don't miss a single pull off at Yellowstone National Park as the pandemic is here and you are not allowed to do much else.

We always spend a lot of time at Artist Point because the views are stunning! The colors of the canyon - yellow, orange, red, purple and white - are vivid and eye-catching.
My grandmother painted the falls from this viewpoint in the 1960s. My husband did a water color of the falls last weekend as our family enjoyed the spectacular scenery.
Make sure to look at the falls and canyon from various spots including the path through the forest to the right of Artist Point. There were bright green mosses and lichen and nice vistas. There are no railings so be careful.

Avoid the crowds and visit off-peak season or early/late in the day. The crowds do take away from the beauty a bit and it's nice to feel a little bit of solitude in the vast wilderness. Watch for snow into mid-May when many trails/roads may still be closed.

Artist Point is a great view of the falls. Don't bother fighting it out for parking at the upper/lower falls, just go here and circle the lot a few time to find a spot. Since it's just a quick photo stop without bathrooms, there is good turnover for parking. You'll get a great photo!

Wow! One visit here and you immediately understand why it is the subject of so many artists. The views are absolutely stunning!

This is a must see after Great Prismatic
Parking is an issue here but then you will get one eventually.
No eating places at location

Absolutely beautiful. Stunning views of the valley and waterfalls. Parking is an issue when it's crowded, but patience and luck and you might get a spot on the first try. Also patience when trying to photograph the falls as there are a lot of visitors posing with the falls in the distance. Worth the visit. I actually think this is a better view than from the other side of the falls.

the smell can t be a bit much at times when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction but the volcanic scenery is well worth the trip - plenty of fab photo op moments

We arrive just after 8 am and it was already busy. Views are simply spectacular. Fierce falls and lovely colours in the rocks.

You can hear the thunder of the low falls. I personally liked the view of the lower falls seen from the north ridge better. But here the canyon is magnificent!!

Simple. This is the prettiest view of the canyon and falls, period. Don’t skip it. If you only do one view, this is the one.

This was a beautiful stop on our way through Yellowstone. I could visualize artists lined up painting these views

Artist point is a must when visiting the Canyon Area of Yellowstone. Parking can take a bit of time but usually you can find a spot relatively quickly. There are multiple to sites to take a picture of the Lower Falls and...you might ask a gracious tourist to snap a pic of you and your party with the falls in the background. It is usually crowded here, so be patient and take your time to be able to get to one of the picturesque snapshot sites.

This is the best view of the falls and the river valley. With the right light you can get a rainbow from the falls.

What wonderful sight for all senses. A bit crowded but just had to move around and explore less crowded areas. Picture Perfect!!

Do not miss this. Try to ignore the crowds and take it all in.
The views at this spot are simply amazing.

Artist point - on the south rim - is probably the most popular of all the Canyon lookouts. You get a sweeping view of the falls and Canyon walls from here, not a close up. When we were there in June - around noon - the lookout was completely mobbed with busloads of tourists. For more relaxed and peaceful enjoyment of the Canyon away from the crowds try hiking on one of the trails from here. We did the Point Sublime trail which goes along the rim (away from the falls) providing the most spectacular views of the colorful Canyon walls. It's a two mile round trip out and back, however for the views no need to go all the way to the end - we did and found the view at the end to be rather disappointing. But if you have the time it's a very easy and pleasant short hike. The trailhead is between the end of the parking lot and the lookout - look for the wooden sign for "Ribbon Lake", and behind that is a more detailed sign with distance info for all the trails starting from here including Point Sublime.

We were here in the third week of October 2022. It’s just a short walk to the lookout point where the artist point is located and you can see parts of the Yellowstone Grand Canyon. There were two painters that were doing their artwork painting the landscape of the Lower Falls while we were there. In addition to seeing the Lower Falls you can also see the many colors of the canyon walls.

This was our favorite outlook for photos of the Lower Falls -- and the rest of the canyon. It's called the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and it is incredibly grand. My husband loves taking photos of the lower falls.

This is a really impressive and stunning location. We have seen quite a few amazing canyons over the past week or so and this one is up there with the best of them... well worth seeing.

A nice spot to hike and see the falls. Wasn’t super busy when we were there. Easy walk. Convenient parking.

We arrived late in the day and the light was still good. Car Park very busy but a couple of circuits got us a place but by the time we left it was quieter and still bright. Other posters do this justice - it is a must visit view. Get the light right and you can match the postcard published view.

Every time we stopped at a different area of the park is was one more beautiful than the other. This place is just Breath taking, serene and just Awesome.

Really nice colors and beautiful sights to be seen here at Artist Point. I would highly recommend the short walk to see it, it would be accessible to elderly people as well as the hike wasn't that difficult. Parking here wasn't as bad as some other places.

Awesome views of the falls and the grand canyon of Yellowstone. I never knew how Yellowstone was named. Now I know...

When we arrived at the park around 9:30am. The place is amazing and beautiful. It’s bit of walk but it’s worth walking key points in park. These are natural wonders of world. Truly beautiful.

We went August 2021
Stunning views. There are so many places to stop and take incredible picture....

There is a decent size parking area here with bathrooms, and it is an easy paved path to walk to the actual point, like a small park unto itself. My wife & I enjoyed the views from here. Different angles produced totally different pictures. Easy to get to this awesome spot.

A popular stop on the South Rim during our visit to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We drove the South Rim after spending the early morning on the North Rim. We visited on Friday, 9/4. After spending almost 2 hours on the North Rim, by the time we got to the South Rim, it was around 10 am. The North Rim was nice and quiet with very few people. There were more crowds in the South Rim but still very manageable.
Artist Point is easy to get to with a large parking lot. The overlook is just a short walk to get a view of the Lower Falls. We spent around 15 minutes here.

It is like looking at a living painting. The yellow stone against the falls is amazing. A easy walk from the parking lot. One of the top sites at Yellowstone National Park

If you have very limited time, I'd pass on this, but we had some spare time to check it out. Kinda looked like several other sites nearby, so we would not go out of our way to see this again. Worth a visit if you have plenty of time.

We were there during a snowstorm and the colors and view were still great. A really can't miss spot.

This is perhaps the most popular point to get a great view of the Falls. You can also enjoy splendid views of the canyon. Be prepared for crowds given the popularity of this location, but if you were going to take only one stop to get a view, this would be my choice.

Being there in the morning provides you the opportunity to see the sun cast a gorgeous rainbow across the magnificent waterfall at Artist's Point. Another natural wonder area in Yellowstone National Park. It's peaceful, serene and a site you wish you could behold for the entire day.

Get here early to avoid the crowds. This is one of the most picture perfect spots in the world. Don't miss it.

Another great place to stop and get out for a nice walk to see various points of interests. Once again, a little overcrowded, but was better than other spots.

Must watch place. The view of Grand canyon from this point is simply marvelous. If you are into paintings nothing like this,

We were overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the Park. The views of Artist Point were indeed a high point

This is a beautiful location from which you can view the Upper Falls. The colors of the canyon walls are stunning.
It is easily reached off Grand Loop Road, with lots of parking. The walk to the viewing area is easy along a paved trail.

A lovely afternoon visit here with my wife and daughter. The sun was shining brightly and the colors were gorgeous.

One of the great things about this view of the waterfall is the rainbow effect that appears as the water falls and the sun shimmers in the fine droplets of water causing beautiful rainbows to appear. This year the water level was very high and caused extra "fog" to appear and it was beautiful.

Amazing waterfall and views. Great for pictures. The sheer amount of water going over the falls is crazy. There are some cool overlooks.

In the summer this place will be a very crowded spot but it is a short hike and well worth the view!

This is really an inspiring view of one of the most iconic features of Yellowstone NP. You can get a great look at the truly awesome and colorful canyon and the Lower Falls from here.
Be aware this is a congested area. Lots of foot and vehicle traffic.

We really enjoyed Artist Point--it was a beautiful, serene, peaceful spot in the park. We were there on a sunny, blue sky day with not a cloud in sight, and the falls were gorgeous against that backdrop. There is a large parking lot, as well as some other hiking you can do near Artist Point.
I would highly recommend coming here early or late to avoid mid-day crowds. We visited this spot twice on the same day. One time, we arrived at 730 AM to only 3 or 4 other vehicles in the parking lot. I spent about 15 min up at the overlook enjoying the view and had no issue at all getting good photos. A couple groups would walk up, take pics, then leave. It never felt crowded.
The second time we came here was that night at sunset, from around 815 to 9:00. Even fewer people were here this time, and we actually ended up totally alone around 9:00! Bring bear spray if you will be going at a time when you may be alone out there and also bring flashlights if you'll be out after dark. Both were really cool, yet different experiences.

Saw this on Trip advisor and probably wouldn't have stopped unless it had been recommend. Most signs in Yelllowstone are non-descriptive. So very glad we stopped to see a wide variety of geological happenings. .

Because the North Rim and Uncle Tom's are both closed, this is the only place to view the falls and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Do not go in the middle of the day, because parking is completely inadequate.

This is one of the most popular spots in the park (along with Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic). The view of the Canyon from here is breathtaking, and definitely the best among all viewing platforms. We did all the North Rim hikes first, and then came to Artist Point. I would recommend doing this first and then doing North Rim.
Best times to go (based on August sunrise/sunset):
- Before 9am - if you want to avoid crowds and parking hassles. Parking spots fill up quick after this, and several tourists buses start pouring in, crowding up an already small viewing platform. If you end up going later, it’s still ok coz cars leave regularly, you’ll just need to wait 10-15 minutes tops.
- Right around 9:30am - if you want spectacular pictures, plan to reach here around 9:30 or slightly earlier. There is a great rainbow that forms around 9:40ish filling up the entire bottom of the waterfall - quite a spectacular sight.
- Around 7:30pm - the sun sets right behind the waterfall on top of the canyon. For a good 15-20 minutes after it sets, there is a gorgeous pink/orange hue in the sky - makes for out-of-this-world pictures.
If you’re staying in the Canyon Lodge, definitely plan on doing this in the morning and after sunset. It’s a 5-minute drive from Canyon Village.

Even without artistic talent, you can appreciate artists from even decades ago enjoying this serene point. Do not skip this stop!

Provides impressive view of canyon and falls. Easy walk from parking lot. While here, definitely drive to the parking lot to the brink of the lower falls.

If you can hike from the falls on the south rim trail, do it. But it's long there and back. We had half our party drive and wait and the other half hiked it. You can also drive to artist point and hike back for about 10 minutes. Great views and you can stop and turn around when the trail gets really steep.

Unfortunately I don't have words to describe the spectacular beauty of this place, which is easy to get to from the main road. It's no more than a 12-15 minute walk along an easy trail.
Views are to use overused words, "Spectacular, remarkable and extraordinary."

just come thru and experience the beauty and majesty lots of others have enjoyed and experienced before....the views and the vistas are just spectacular...bring a nice camera if possible

The north rim is a much better drive, but this viewpoint is the picture postcard jaw dropper that it promises to be. It’s pretty busy but we still managed to park on an August afternoon. The viewpoint is pretty accessible.

Situated in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, the Artist Point offer breathtaking views of nature's natural beauty. You will remain in awe of the art gallery inspired by nature's erosion.

I wish I had a better camera for this stop. The views are amazing in every direction. Expect to spend time looking for a parking spot. The parking lot was very busy and people were constantly coming and going. It was one of the most crowded stops during our entire week in the park.

This is the end stop of the south run drive and well worth the stop. Lots of parking and some restrooms at the west end of the long lot. Really great views of the canyon from this point - it's a must-see location.

Do not miss this beautiful view! Just a short walk from the parking lot at the end of South Rim Road, with accessible pathways to the view. The view here is breathtaking, amazing, definitely well worth the short drive! The best view anywhere in the park.

The view of the falls and the canyon is truly magnificent. The colors are splendid and we took some really beautiful photos.
The View from Artist Point is one of the best you'll ever take in. It's the best place to view the Lower falls, and it's an easy walk to the viewing area from the parking lot.
