Rent a boat, a kayak, a paddle board, a jet ski, or simply hop on the Water Taxi to ride the man-made canals that make up the east side of Fort Lauderdale. This is why Fort Lauderdale is called the "Venice of America"

By TOB |

We took a sailing charter which crossed the intracoastal Waterway on our departure form the Tarpon River. We stayed in Hollywood Beach with the waterway crossing right behind our condo and walked long it many times during the week to go to shops and restaurants. I hope to spend an afternoon just cruising the waterway on next visit. The houses, hotels, boats of every kind and views along the waterway are really diverse.

By MSS |

Loved it, one price but could get on and off for one price. Crew informative, and had a lot of knowledge about houses and boats alone the waterway.

Visited Ft. Lauderdale, and on the recommendation of a friend took the family on a tour of the intracoastal waterway using the Water Taxi service. The tour was fun, interesting and the guides are pretty funny. They help to talk about the Zillion dollar homes, boats, and homes of celebrities that lived in Ft. Lauderdale. Eye opener to the lifestyles of the rich and shameless. Some very very expensive yachts park in Ft. Lauderdale at ridiculous prices for moorage.

Ate at 15th Street Fisheries, and food was great.

By Will K |

We took a boat tour through the waterway and really enjoyed viewing the homes of the filthy rich and not so famous. There are many million dollar plus yachts and cruise ships to see. I highly recommend visiting.

In the late spring of this year we were fortunate to be able to buy a condo on the Intracoastal Waterway in Pompano Beach. This is one of the highlights of this area. The parade of pleasure boats, of all sizes never seems to end. If you have access to a boat, exploring this interesting waterway is a great way to spend a day or two. With all the fingers that shoot off on either side you'll have the opportunity to view some of the most beautiful homes in South Florida. If you don't have a boat you might consider renting one. If not then there are water taxi's that travel north & south along the Intracoastal in both Ft. Lauderdale and Pompano Beach.

Also, there are many restaurant's on the Intracoastal with docking facilities to help fill up your tank and gas refueling locations to help fill up your other tank. A day exploring the Intracoastal Waterway is an activity that you'll remember.

The Inter coastal is get no matter if its a small pontoon boat or a pirate tour or a water taxi.

in Fort Lauderdale, my opinon the intercoastal is the best because its low land and flat

See the Venice of America

By Lynn P |

Rode the Jungle Queen and walked miles. Amazing affluence and excellent bridges to observe opening and closing.

By Jeffrey S |

There are a lot of 4000,000 million or dollar homes on the water way. Another thing that I liked were there were a lot of yachts. Which is cool Also Cruise ships dock in part of the waterway. Finally if you go to the intercostal waterway and your not on a cruise ship take the water taxi.

By mzbh2016 |

The intracoastal Water way from Miami thru to Boca Raton is filled with diversity. Thru Miami and Ft Lauderdale there are many tall motels and hotels of every size, shape and cost. It flows thru reclaimed "natural" parks in Hollywood. The beautiful homes and yachts of the rich and famous. Port Everglades provides an up close look at the shipping industry, with big cranes moving containers to and from cargo vessels. Cruise ships also use Port Everglades providing a spectacular display as they parade in and out thru the inlet (usually from 3 to 5pm on weekends).

By rachanaBk |

it was a lovely ride and its quite overwhelming to see all the million dollars house/villas and the beautiful yachts in from of them ...the costa line the bridges and the visibly seeing the opening and closing of the same is quite a thing.
enjoying a beer with family and kids it was a beautiful lovely ride and to top it iff has been blessed with a lovely weather to go with,.

must do ...like they say truly america;s answer to venice ...

By Lumly |

We had four alligators on the tour. The girl was showing the alligators in the pit. It was amazing!!

By mema98 |

We added this feature for a post cruise experience. Very informative and comedic Captains, first mates! The big ship even serves drinks (for a fee) and popcorn!

By Pepperooney |

This is a great way to spend the day when in Fort Lauderdale, scenery is great, you get to see all the mansions and amazing yachts on the canals. There are plenty of stops along the way so you can hop on/hop off and explore.

By Ken (haileythegolden) |

We rode the water taxi through out the waterway. You see how the millionaire and billionaires live with there yachts. Really interesting and a beautiful ride.

By JSR_Adventures |

We live a couple of blocks from the Intercoastal, and we like to go and sit and watch the boats. You get lucky and see marine life every so often.

By Foashizzle |

It is a great place to watch the world go by either on a boat or on the shore. There are tons of events from the Yacht show to the Boat Parade. There are bars and restaurants that you can access by boat or drive to so you can watch the baots.

By Vincent L |

If you get chance, take a dinner cruise to see the millionaires properties set on the waterway. Then on the way back the home are lit up and it is a dream to see them. The food was good and plentiful. The crew fantastic.

By iramccown |

Love seeing not only the large yachts and ocean liners that traverse Intracoastal in Ft. Lauderdale but also plenty of Manatees and picturesque giant draw bridges.

By Albert V |

Sailing the intracoastal highway, you'll be able to see amazing houses and yachts, owned by billionaires.

By D C |

I love this area - super clean and the people are (even police) friendly
We spent time sailing along the waterway and on the ocean - what a great time
We have been to the area a few times and look forward to stopping back
Make it out onto a boat somehow and enjoy the water - super clear and plenty to see like a school of dolphins while we are on the ocean not to far from shore
If not relax and love the sounds of the water

By fastplayer37 |

Interesting to see . Very unique . We went on s boat cruise and saw this. It was fun . I don't know what else to write

By Billy Goldstein |

Watch your speed in the no wake zones. Bring a camera, Manatee's are plentiful, be careful, don't run over one, $5,000 fine if you get caught. Lots of restaurants / bars right on the water

By Spike M |

Lots of folks living large here. Mansions on the water with yachts. Wow where do these people work? Or do they?

By Marc S |

Nice to be on the watertaxi. Best view to the Port and all the big cruise ships. Very good Photo view.

By Mike C |

What better way to see Fort Lauderdale than from the water and specifically the Inter-coastal Waterway? Easy access via the various taxi stops
Take a water taxi and hop on and off to your hearts content when you see something that you want to explore further
A real opportunity to see how the other half live with Super Yachts on the Water and Super Mansions on the banks
Highly recommended to pass a half or even a full day

By Scott |

One of the best parts of any visit to a Atlantic Florida beach is the Intercoastal Waterway on the other side. It's always fun to photograph from the bridges.

By WheelingTraveler |

I spent a day using the water taxi during my trip and the waterway is definitely worth visiting. The properties and ships along the way are impressive.

By Karen J |

This is one of the best ways to explore parts of Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The water taxi is a fun means of transportation to check out the older homes that face the water.

By 387indy |

Intracoastal Waterway the boat is in good condition, the weather is beautiful, and if don't own a boat; its a great way to see the beautiful homes and boats.

By Pam C |

If your interest is in seeing azillion multimillion-dollar home and Yachts then this is where you need to go! We Cruise the intercoastal for hours on the b yellow taxi and did just that. A bit overwhelming after a while! But I must see!

By C5488QVjanet |

Georgeous sunset. Especially dining venues on the I nner coastal beautiful yachts rowing & paddleboarding

By sugarandspice72 |

Took a boat out on the waters very relaxing and great to look at all the posh and expensive homes, even look at the cruise ships at port evergldaes You can even pull up along side some resturants and they will serve directly from the resturants to you boat! It a perfect way to relax.

By Linda M |

We went on the Jungle Queen River boat cruise thru the intracoastal. I was amazing to see how many huge yachts and houses are along the way. The draw bridges were awesome.

By 387indy |

The Intracoastal Waterway is very busy, everybody seems to have a boat. There are restaurants, hotels, multi million dollar homes, a lot to take in.

By George Meredith |

Between the beach islands and mainland Florida is a discontinuous waterway that is perfect for smaller private boating. Here there is a water taxi that you can use as a water tour of the tourist area. There are some nice places to eat and walk and a great way to see the boats. The trip down here was only about 10 minutes from the Holiday Inn at I 95

By Barry Schwartz, M.D. |

Several different ways to see, fun to rent a boat and do your own trip. Beautiful homes always new ones being done. Lots of opportunities to find good restaurants from burgers at le Tub to upscale meals. An enjoyable trip

By beth |

The riverwalk that runs along the waterway is very relaxing with many spots to sit and watch the boats go by. Take a tour to see all the mansions and yatches.

By Debbie |

Stayed at this hotel which was on the Intracoastal waterway. Short walk over the drawbridge to beach. Beautiful park and zoo within walking distance.

By Alexander F |

It is a nice and worthwhile boat ride, to cruise along the intracoastal in Ft Lauderdale and look at all the beautiful properties

By Mon55 |

This is amazing waterway considering it begins up near Boston and runs all the way to around Galveston. There are so many boats of various sizes constantly on it. Also water taxis connect both sides in the Fort Lauderdale area.

By Pher Travel |

The Intracoastal Waterway is fabulous. Seeing beautiful mansions and huge yachts is a fun activity in Fort Lauderdale. There is no shortage of options from kayak tours, hot tub and other fun boat tours.

By Murnsey |

Took a tour on the gondola rides that you catch near Café Sensi. It was a great way to see the intercoastal which has the most beautiful homes anywhere

By Pennie727 |

If you can travel the Intracoastal or eat at a restaurant on the Intracoastal, it is fun to look at the homes and watch the boats go by.

By John E |

Recently walked along the River Walk in Los Olas and took a ride on the Water Taxi, great place to do so sight seeing.

By erodrig26 |

Took several trips up and down the Intracoastal Waterway on tour boats. It was interesting to see all of the mansions of the rich and famous as well as their yachts. It was also interesting to understand the amount of commerce that goes through the area and the extent of the waterway.

By Saluga |

We walked along the Intracoastal Waterway from Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. It was interesting to see all the expensive yachts and very large homes belonging to the wealthy people who live or vacation there.

By Glamgirls123 |

We travelled the intracoastal by water taxi. There's lots of different things to see along the way and a great way to see different parts of the waterway. There was even a cruise ship docked as well as the cranes loading and unloading large barges.

By Danille C |

we spend the better part of a day and evening traveling around on the hop on and off water taxi, it was great the tour guides were informative i would highly recommend you do this .

By EileenW1 |

We spent a whole day just cruising along the waterway and canals. The wealth obvious in the yachts, houses, condos etc had us gawping in awe but we wondered about the 21% living in poverty in the Ft Lauderdale region.

By saulogod . |

My experience was with water taxi but I believe that there is also alternative tours. Water taxi was great because we could hop off and hop on in different places so it was possible to know a little bit of Fort Lauderdale without our car.

By Jennifer J |

We traveled this stretch on the Jungle Queen Riverboat. It was gorgeous. Tons of $40 million+ homes to gauk at and a nice peaceful ride.

By Jacquie W |

Was very cool to see all the Hugh yactch’s looked up the biggest one I saw when I got home and it was Bill Gates! Great restaurants

By Jay Lo |

Got to tour the waterways via the Jungle Queen Riverboat Cruise. The waterway is rich in history, and goes straight North all the way up to Boston, MA! The drawbridges are so cool to see in action, and there is so much beauty in the homes and yachts along the waterway and adjacent canals. Marinas are obviously abundant. From downtown Ft. Lauderdale, you can sit and walk along the river. If you have an opportunity to tour this area and learn more of its history while in the area, I strongly encourage you to do so!

By ioutdoors |

The view and scenery is second to none, great weather fantastic food lots of fun spots.

Fun place best waterways in the state.

By L .. |

Cool place to drive, see all of the action at sea. Boats, shipping containers etc. Pretty cool, kids love.

By mabinho |

We crossed over this stretch of waterway via various bridges during a few days in Fort Lauderdale, while also waiting while bridges opened and raised to let larger boats through. We also enjoying navigating a short stretch on board the Ft. Lauderdale (FREE!) water trolley. Beautiful scenery and impressive homes and boats!

By nkdp |

The Intercoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale (down to Hollywood) is a nice way to see the towns from a different view. There are magnificent mansions and houses, as well as restaurants and bars. I'd recommend using the water taxi and doing it during the day, then again at night, coming back from dinner, as the houses/mansions have wonderful lighting.

By oakland999 |

Visitors and locals alike never cease to amaze at the beauty and activity on South Florida's inland waterways. The Intracoastal is no exception. Whether by water taxi, private boat or just a car ride along the waterway's coast, it is a site to be appreciated by all visitors.

By SuenDon2 |

We found Hollywood/Hollywood Beach by using the Interacoastal Waterway. It's a fabulous way to travel and see this sights, AND learn the history of the area, as well as the rich and famous who "live" there. The skipper is very knowledgeable! If it's your first time there, don't miss it!

By Blkpearl3 |

Had fun port was really nice lots of shops near by good food and easy to get around lots of nice people working the area.

By boat girl |

If you have the chance to get on any type of floating craft you must go up the intercostal waterway! The yachts, mansions and canals are abundant each being larger than the first. A great day out cruising around with plenty of dockside restaurants you can stop at to see the water from a different perspective. The waterway under the 17th street bridge and 15th st. fisheries can get a bit hectic on the weekend, pleny of boat and people watching.

By Lcox011 |

This is a must if you can! We have family that lives on the waterway. We went boating down the Intracoastal. There are a lot of pull up docks to restaurants and bars right on the waterway. It is beautiful to see all the large homes and the beauty of Florida. We went all the way down close to Miami. Beats sitting in traffic.

By mdf534 |

We spent several hours each day during our visit to Florida. It is wonderful and never gets boring. A tour on the Jungle Queen and several Water Taxi rides added to the great experience.

By Nancy S |

Joined the tour at the Hilton stop
Enjoyed the tour & stops.
Especially enjoyed watching the iguanas enjoying the banana peels the taxi drivers provided.

By scotsnyder02 |

If you find life on the water interesting a water taxi excursion along the Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale Intercostal Waterway has something for everyone in the family to see and enjoy. From small fishing vessels, million dollar yachts, cargo ship off-loads to the mansion of the Rich-and-Famous, this waterway has it all.

By martincH5773TH |

You can take the water taxi for an inexpensive cruise up Ft Lauderdale's Intracoastal waterway past multi million dollar homes and great waterfront restaurants. This is one of the most scenic waterways in the country, especially when you get to the junction of the New River. Port Everglades is also a great sight.

By BaldSerb |

If you want something to burn off some time and is fun for kids, head to the inter coastal and watch the boats drive around. Cheap and entertaining.

By Karin |

It’s a collection of nice, real nice houses- but it’s so much more too. Grab the ayer taxi in the afternoon and experience the sunset on the waters of the intracoastal- serene, beautiful and unforgettably romantic.

By BandDC |

Best enjoyed on a sailing trip for a day or half....sailed on Duffy and Wind Pirate...learned sailing skills and had fun. Both are highly recommended.

By Condo808 |

Lovely scenes, quiet waters. Had a quiet, sunny and wonderful time on the water. It is a must go for anyone who wants a great time on the water.

By FineTimer |

We had never sailed on American Cruise Lines before, and did not know what to expect - happily, we can tell you that this cruise exceeded our expectations on all levels. We took a weeklong cruise from Charleston to Jacksonville and would not hesitate to recommend American Cruise Lines to anyone.

All ships in the fleet are American built and have all American crews! American Cruise Lines sails on the following US waterways: Inter-coastal, Chesapeake Bay, Tolomato & St. Johns River in FL, New England Coastal and Islands, Hudson River, Mississippi River (Upper & Lower), Ohio River, Cumberland River, Columbia & Snake Rivers in WA, Puget Sound & the San Juan Islands, S.E. Alaska and the Inside Passage.

By Karen B |

Been using the water taxi on the intercoastal for years now and its worth the $25 if you will use it all day for a hop on/hop off purpose. The driver and guides are funny, informative and a lot of fun. You get to see all kinds of beautiful homes and its just plain fun seeing the intercoastal this way. You can hop off, buy a drink and hop back on again (plastic glasses of course). Gotta love Fort Lauderdale!

By Paula K |

The Intercoastal Waterway, at any location is s feast for the eyes and senses. It's a feeling of freedom and serenity watching the many types of boats and activities taking place every minute of the day, and the lights and beauty of a calm quiet evening to settle the nerves and bask in the beauty of the night.

By philtasseur |

Love to go a watch the boats on the ICW.
Each time a different one passing by.
I wish I had a boat too

By Karen P |

We came through this area in the water taxing. The area waterways are absolutely remarkable and well maintained. We enjoyed getting around the local area on a very nice water taxi.

By Bob G |

We took the afternoon Carrie B. river/intracoastal waterway tour and had a great time. We saw many homes and mansions of rich and famous people, a lot of huge yachts including one of the largest in the world, and some cruise ships. This is a family friendly activity, reasonably priced, and you can sit inside or out depending on the weather. Food and drink is also available for a small fee. I would highly recommend this activity!

By Peggy D |

Was awesome seeing this bridge open up for the boats to go through! Very enjoyable and worth seeing!

By Patty B |

Don’t miss seeing the area by water. The water taxi is a great way to do it. You can get off at different places along the Intracoastal for lunch or drinks then get back on. Very enjoyable.

By Richard S |

For all you cruise folks out there you should know that this water way includes bays, lagoons, rivers, and canals along the Atlantic coast streatching from Boston to Key West. The body of water is visable to us in the ports of Ft Lauderdale and Miami and as well as when our ships visit Key West. On our last cruise we visited Port Everglades and the views of the Intracoastal are beautiful from our ship. It is always a enjoyable visit.

By EveBob |

Both the beach and the inner costal waterways are very scenic. We spent six hrs just walking a short distance on the beach then taking the water taxi. Great views of homes, yachts, the port and beaches along the way.

By Lindabuslady |

Took the 90 minute tour. Very interesting narrated tour with interesting tidbits about the people who live along the intercostal.
The houses were absolutely beautiful.
.

By Pamela T |

An easy and relaxing way to see the eye-popping yachts and the residences of the 'locals.' Much nicer than a car ride and you can hop on and off.

By Opinion8ted |

There are several tour companies that run boat tours; we left from the one near the plaza off of Las Olas Blvd, not far from the restaurant Wild Sea, on the Carrie B. I believe it is called the Venice of America cruise. It was a blast to hear the captain talk about the yachts and the houses of the rich and quasi-famous, and the boat itself was clean and comfortable.

By 800cabrera |

Boating intercoastal is a good experience as you can see many houses, buildings, restaurants around but be aware that the boat speed has to be very low as a precaution.

By itsfuntotravel-2012 |

First time on the intracoastal. We rented a boat and had a splendid time exploring the water way. Just wish i rented for one more hour. With a billion boats in Florida, we were practically the only ones on the water on Friday, June 30. Had no trouble avoiding other watercraft.

By Suzan Y |

Get off the beach and take the water taxi or stroll along the Intracoastal waterway. Luxurious homes and mega yachts are entertaining and gorgeous. Pretend you’re a millionaire!

By jimfromstockholm |

Interesting to look at all the nice houses by the water and in all the small sub-.channels. Very few public places. Nice lizards "guarding" the bridges

By Penelope E |

We bought a ticket and spent the entire day traveling up and down the intracoastal. We also took the extra trip to Hollywood. Seeing the homes along with way was a great way to fantasize 'if I wish rich...."

By gisellemc2017 |

The intercoastal waterway right by the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina is an intetesting place to visit.

By Whereto2next |

I spent some time sitting and watching the intracoastal waterway. It is nothing overly amazing, but if you are relaxing enjoying Ft. Lauderdale, it is relaxing to watch the boats steam in and out.

By Gary M |

We traveled by water taxi all over Ft. lauderdale to many sites including but not limited to restaurants, bars, museums and the beach.

By Roy C |

Something we looked forward to and it didn't disappoint. The 'free' commentary is informative and most of the houses and yachts they point out are very impressive.

By tourismteach |

Best fun ever just hanging out in Lake Boca on a Saturday afternoon. Take your boat, some brews, hop in the water and walk around and meet the people. There's even a food pontoon - great hot dogs!

By Sbarrett530 |

My wife took this boat ride while she visited family. It was all she talked about. She said the director talked about what celebrities had owned some of home. Many of the homes had a lot of windows where they could see in and she said she the Christmas parties going on. She would definitely go back and highly recommends the ride. There were three ladies who would sing Christmas songs when the director wasn’t talking.

By Stephen D |

It blows your mind to see the extensive waterway system this encompasses, with the stunning array of homes and, for the boat lover, OMG: the yachts are terrific. Water, water, everywhere and no need to drink it: it's utter, pure enjoyment, Florida style.

By aellituv |

The intracoastal dominates the skyline
However we went on it on a segway and it was wonderful.
To see the boats passing by
To see the area from up on high
To watch the bridge open up to allow the yachts to sail through was really great.

By lordupsmansir |

This was a real neat trip on the intercostal. You can go as far as you like, lots to see. If you get hungry and or thirsty there’s lots of restaurant with great bars along the way. No rough seas to contend with her. Enjoy 😉
If you found this post helpful please consider giving it a like.
Thanks

By albertafamily |

You can hop on a water taxi or take a tour like we did that goes around the canals by the luxury homes and yachts and out to the harbour area where the cruise ships port. The guided tours are a better option as you get a little more information on the area than you would if you just boarded a water taxi. Fun way to spend a afternoon

By Terri W |

This was a nice highlight of our stay in Fort Lauderdale after a cruise. The water taxis were great, the guides and crew were excellent and we couldn't have had a better time.

By becsings57 |

We enjoyed our trip on the Intracoastal Waterway on the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure and so many beautiful homes and yachts along the way. It's like having an alley for those of us who live in a city without water.

By B9202IUpaulp |

Navigating the ICW in Florida is a pain in the butt with bridges that you need to wait for every mile or so.
But, once in Fort Lauderdale you may enjoy a wonderful anchorage right in downtown. Surrounded by gorgeous villas with which you share the same view.
Enjoy!

By m w |

Kind of neat to watch all the boats going out. It is a veritable water highway for those not from this area.....numerous bridges to navigate across to the beaches.

By Amos C |

The intercoastal waterway is an amazing thing. We get to admire all the stuff rich people have. The houses along the waterway were very nice. The huge boats even nicer. Everyone always talks about the top 1% with all the money. Well, they must all be here in Ft. Lauderdale.

By Patrick S |

We've been up and down Intracoastal so many times and never get tired of it. Night or Day it is beautiful. Of course evening is much, much cooler. We've gone as far as Charleston and that was enough. Winter on the intracoastal is the best.

By jerrys99 |

Anyone who can should take a boat ride up the Intercoastal Waterway. you would be amazed at the extremely large mansions and then the yachts behind them take your breath away. Makes you wonder where all that money comes from. A must see. Take a water taxi.

By jerry s |

Take the yellow water taxi shuttle .get a guided tour of the homes and boats. Very relaxing stress free way to travel to shopping ,Beaches or restaurants. Pass can be used all day and night and also offers discounts at every stop.

By Katie P |

We toured the intercoastal with BlueFoot pirate adventures and loved seeing the mansions, megayachts, famous restaurants, and cruise ships in Port Everglades. Very memorable!

By Star R |

If you get the chance to travel this waterway, you won't regret it. It's truly calming and refreshing.

By JayDive |

We had a wonderful day boating on the intracoastal waterway. Loved seeing the $million plus homes. Stop and had lunch at a restaurant. Stopped and dropped a anchor on a sand bar and watched million dollar boats go bye.

By sddsman |

Our charter sail boat took us through the Intracoastal waterway. We saw multi million dollar yachts, large ocean going freighters and cruise ships. We saw the Harmony of the Seas was was awesome.

By DW B |

Two couples enjoyed a boat tour of the Intracoastal waterway. We saw gorgeous homes many of which have great histories. We had comfortable seat fboth inside and outside. Even though we have lived here for years, we learned more about this beautiful waterway. Our out of town friends really enjoyed it. A great way to spend time with visitors especially if you combine this with a visit to Las Olas.

By Tom B |

Hard to imagine saying you've been to Ft. Lauderdale without spending some time on the Intracoastal waterways. Whether you use the water taxis (a fun way to get from place to place), a private/charter boat, or one of the larger guided tour boats spending a few hours on a sunny day cruising the intracoastal is a Ft. Lauderdale must do activity. Multi million dollar homes and yachts at every turn and views of the mega cruise ships.

By Daphne D |

The intracoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale is a breathtaking experience. The homes, the yachts and the activity are truly a sight to be seen. Don’t miss out on any opportunity to see this!

By Francie C |

The ICW is a route for boaters who don't want to travel in the ocean or for boaters accessing a marina etc inside the ICW. the ICW serves its purpose well but is slow transit due to boat traffic and bridges. Stayed at Lauderdale Marina which was excellent and ate at 15th St Fisheries which has good food but nothing creative or extra special.

By Tamaracboy |

Ft Lauderdale is referred to as "The Venice of America" for a reason, there are so many waterways, canals, islands, and bridges
The best way to take this in is by water, either on a friend's boat or the wonderful water taxis
(side note: the taxis are officially transportation and NOT tours, but the "drivers" are frequently very informative and deserve to be tipped accordingly)
The homes and condos that front along the intercoastal are marvelous and the mega-yachts docked in front of them are impressive
The Intercoastal itself is the water highway that goes up and down almost the entire Eastern and Gulf coasts of the USA
The section around and through Ft Lauderdale passes through the very busy Port Everglades with its large container and cruise ships then passes through many draw bridges.
If you don't like being on the water you can go by any one of the draw bridges and watch them open and close for tall masted sail boats
This is especially active on weekends

By NII C |

This is a great view of the beautiful Mansions of Fort Lauderdale FL. Take a chartered boat travel by ferry boat free or view from the coast ..Realy enjoy the homes and luxe look. December and Jan it will be a bit nippy by the water but Wonderful trip when friends and family travel to FL out of the cold

By forbesfield245 |

Many beautiful houses along the waterway, each worth in excess of 30 million. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the houses histories, He pointed out houses once owned by such figures as Al Capone, Gloria Vanderbilt, Scottie Pippen and Johnny Weismuller along with many others. Nice trip.

By omeganatasha |

Tour lasts 1.5 hours on a paddle steamer type boat, you get to see some amazing waterfront homes, many owned by celebrities. Informative dialogue along the way. Some homes cosy $40 million. Tickets were $25 per person, good value. We boarded just off Las Olas Boulevard.

By michiecp |

I was visiting family and we ate dinner right on the water. Loved watching the large boats go down the water.

By DenisHereford |

Great trip -a bit pricy, Fun commentary. Possibly a little less emphasis on the values of yachts and waterside properties would be good, with more comment on history and local facilities.

By Sharon C |

Unless you are privileged enough to have your own yatch, make the most of this waterway, with the water taxi. Brilliant commentary from the crew, 14 stops along the way, and a regular timetable. Do up load the app, for up to date timings, really did help, and as one very lovely crewman advised 'kick back and enjoy', and we did 😂

By David N |

We visited this wonderful structure set across the waterways of Fort Lauderdale and found it to be very impressive

By Qskirk |

Our family loved watching the bridges raise and lower for the many types of boats, sail boats and yachts 🛥 our one son is handicapped and loved watching. Very cool!
Find a restaurant that you can watch a bridge for a while very entertaining. Dinner and a show 😁

By ET-retired |

All thru Florida on the east coast you run into the waterway there are numerous restaurants sitting on its banks where you can sit and watch the boats go by. It is wonderful

By Carolyn G |

Took the water taxi. It is a hop on hop off all day long at several different stops. A great way to view the elegant homes and fancy yachts.

By Traveller & Foodie |

I took a trip on a boat to go up and down the intercostal waterway. You can see lots of glamorous homes and yachts. We did go under the bridge on 17th street to go check out the Everglades Port where the big ships are parked. The waterways are stunning and a great way to see the insides of Fort Lauderdale luxury living. You might even see someone famous faces while adventuring on your boat tour. Best days to tour the waterways are Saturdays because you see the most cruise ships at the port which is quite the view.

By Robin L |

we stayed in a condo right on the intracostal waterway! Loved watching the boats/ships pass under the drawbridges. Would stay there forever if we could. Ocean was across the street basically a 10 min walk. and a short walk over the draw bridge was a great selection of eaterys and shopping!

The intracoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale is a great place to see different watercraft from kayaks to yachts. At Pier 66, where the intracoastal spills into the port, you can also catch sight of some of the world's largest cruise ships. The venue for the annual Holiday Boat Parade is populated with private homes and a few restaurants as well as a state park (Hugh Taylor Birch State Park) if you are looking for more than just a place to watch the boats go by.

Wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon, but you need to do it by boat.

You can either do it by Water Taxie or if you are a boater there ate many places that you can rent a boat. Also in down glen Ft Lauderdale off of Las Olas and the New River is a large paddle touring boat.

There are many things to see but a nice ride is down the New River which goes througb the middle of downtime Ft Lauderdale

We traveled through some of the Intracoastal as a sight seeing trip with the Water Taxi. It was nice for what it is but there are only so many mansions and yachts that you can ogle over before they all start to blend together. I recommend a short excursion if you’re from out of town but would limit it to a couple of hours before moving on to something else.

What a beautiful view of the intercoastel whatway and the cruise terminal. You could even see Fort Lauderdale downtown from the bridge.

By Jack A |

Take the water taxi for a relaxing experience looking at the waterside homes. For a good atmosphere with excellently priced good food & happy hour offers try Flip Flops waterfront bar &restaurant (next to Shooters stop 9).

By Mike N |

The intercostal is a must see when visiting Lauderdale. Take the water taxi and witness the highest concentration on MEGA YACHTS and Multi-Million Dollar homes. The water taxi will give you a guided tour of the homes and boats along the way. Stop off at one of the many waterside restaurants, or take it downtown and have a meal there. Lots to see and do!

By Janette Z |

Take a cruise on the Jungle Queen and learn about the rich and famous who live in the mansions along the Intrcoastal, they have a great dinner btw! Take a water Taxi and hop around the bar scene. Our favorite thing to do is cruise the waterway in our friends beautiful boat. At a leisurely pace, we boat around Fort Lauderdale occasionally stopping at a bar or restaurant. Relaxing and entertaining at the same time, as long as you're in the company of great friends, good times are sure to be had- even if were just floating down a canal!

By Rasheed M |

One of the most beautiful highlights of the City, the intracoastal waterway in Ft Lauderdale Florida which is also my home place, gives you a chance to see the road/bridge going up and down as the boats passes by adding a different feel to the surroundings, many a time you try to pass before especially when working and trying to keep an on time schedule but the odd happens and gives you a chance to stop which can be relaxing for the period or just God's way of slowing you down most of the time for your own good and protection which he alone knows.

By mike f |

The intercoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale is a beautiful site. They have water taxis that go up and down and show you the beautiful homes. The private yards are unbelievable. It is a nice tripTo do at night

By Bruce S. H |

The intracoastal waterway in Ft Lauderdale is beautiful. You can watch the boats, sail on it, and dine on it. There are several spots to dine (Shooters, Flip Flops and Bokampers, etc. )overlooking the waterway. It is very peaceful generally. If you get lucky you can sometimes see iguanas, dolphins and maybe even a manatee in the summer months. A lot of the rich and famous live along the waterway and there are tours that take you there. Of course there is also the water taxi which has several stops on the waterway and the new river.

By CyndyandByron |

The intracoastal waterway runs in all its glory between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. There are many vantage points to watch the boat traffic from small pontoon craft to enormous yachts. And some of the largest homes in Florida can also be seen. You could walk along the waterway from the side of the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Or you could take the Water Taxi from beginning to end. There a some private tour operators as well. It is a definite must for all South Florida visitors.

By mojohrarboro |

We were staying in the Marriott Beach Place and our apartment overlooked the intra coastal waterway. Far better than the ocean view!
So much to see! Its beautiful to be there at sunrise or sunset and simoly to watch the traffic on the water. Impossible to be bored,

By Ahems |

Hop on a water taxi and check out the views. Mega yachts, beautiful scenery, anything and everything happening around you on the water. It is a fun way to view this area.

By Marqus R |

It's the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway or less technically stated Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) that makes Fort Lauderdale what it is: The Venice of America, Yachting Capital of the World and Drawbridge City which are just a few of the nicknames by which it is recognized and known. Though Fort Lauderdale isn't alone on this, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway is the lifeblood and major economic resource of the majority of Atlantic coastal cities, towns and resorts as it stems all the way from New Jersey to Key West, it is the one, singular and most outstanding feature that sets it apart from all others.

Having a controlled depth of not less than at 6 feet, though Federal Law mandates 12 feet, at mean low water for its entire thousand mile plus length, it provides a safe toll free water highway for recreational boaters.

Without the Intracoastal Waterway Fort Lauderdale would be a nothing as would the rest of Broward and Palm Beach counties. Their vast network of canals probably wouldn't have been created and even if they had would either be useless or lead nowhere. Fort Lauderdale along with its neighboring cities and beach towns wouldn't have internationally famous boat parades, marinas or any of the myriad of waterfront restaurants, bars and recreational resorts that depend upon for their existence.

Being an avid boater myself and having boated a vast number of waterways within the United States, areas of Scandinavia, Europe and Asia, take my word for it that none can even begin to compare with the Intracoastal Waterway for overall recreation.

Though constructed and maintained by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Jacksonville District, day to day life and enforcement of navigational rules is primarily vested in the United States Coast Guard, more specifically for the areas of Fort Lauderdale, the Coast Guard Station located in Dania Beach. Hence, for the purposes of Yelp and with the waterway being a matter of "Local Flavor," I've taken the liberty of listing that Coast Guard Station as being the "Location of the Business Owner" of Intracoastal Waterway which to me stands out as being the biggest, best and truest gem of the area.

By strongarm18 |

Lots of stops and sights to see including houses, parks, food/bars & Boats (I mean Multi-million dollar yachts). BE sure to find the water Taxi and take a ride and watch out for Patrolman who all over this ICW.

By Dee E |

We enjoyed the activity of taking ferry on intercostal. I had fun looking at the millionaire homes. Very fascinating. We were able to hop on and off on the ferry.

By Rell P |

Took a trip on the Water taxi. We went up a down the Intercoastal water way, observed all of the glamorous homes and yachts on the water way. Spotted numerous manatees on the trip. Crossed the numerous bridges that span the water way. Very interesting trip.

By Phylly M |

You really need to take the water taxi for a day long ride through the intracoastal-waterway. We saw so much and it is a narrated. stay on as long as you like or get off on one of the many stops.
The homes are stunning and the yachts are parked not far away from the house ..

By MaryLouandJohn |

A very nice leisurely way to get to the different areas. We got to see some hugely expensive houses and yachts—mind boggling. How does a person accumulate such wealth?

By strassbeee |

We took a tour of the multi million dollar homes and yachts on and off the intracoastal waterway. It was impressive to say the least. Some homes were over 50,000 square feet and worth tens of millions of dollars. There were yachts that were over 250 feet long that periodically sailed between Europe and the USA. Hard to believe how much wealth is displayed here.

By Jay K |

Lots of history and yachts. This is the water highway of the East coast. And especially in Fort Lauderdale it is where all the mega yachts and mega Mansions are located.
Well worth the visit and a cruise here is a must!

By TOM A |

It is wonderful spending time on the intracoastal waterway and watching all the pleasure craft coming and going. From the mega yachts to the cruisers to the small pleasure craft it is a sight to behold. And there are plenty of restaurants and bars to stop at for
food and libations.

By Keith |

Nothing to see! Absolutely NOTHING! One of the worst tourist venues in Florida! The only highlight was returning to where we boarded our boat. It is even WORSE if done after dark!

By Sharon B |

This cruise was so much fun and unusual. It was so interesting cruising on the river through the city and seeing the bridges raise. The locals are great. They seem to enjoy seeing the boats as much as we enjoyed the ride. Very nice family activity.

Most people respect the nautical laws and it's always good weather on this side of the ocean. Anywhere you are there's a close inlets to the ocean. Pretty to look out onto as well.

By Bruce F |

Great time. The only way to see what's been happening along the water. The new homes are amazing. You can get on and off as often as you like.

By David M |

I am a sailor and know the pleasure of seeing things from the sea. This waterway is one of the busiest I have experienced but also one of the most intriguing. Incredible mansions up-river, fabulous boats, bridges and sights nearer the sea. I highly recommend taking in the whole thing.

By drlau99 |

I rented a powerboat from bestboat Club and cruised the intracoastal from bahia Mar to pompano and back. Beautiful!!
This is a must do for Fort Lauderdale.

By Robert Y |

an eye catching beautiful area with grand sights in every direction.....many beautiful boats cruising the waters and everywhere you look nothing but pretty views.....take a camera and catch some memories

By sendyb63620 |

We arrived a day earlier for our cruise and went sightseeing in Ft. Lauderdale and Southern Miami, took an airboat ride, went to the beach and also on a Lion Safari.

By butterflysolo |

Recommend taking the water taxi to make the most of this wonderful waterway and to get off at the many stops along the route to explore all that is available.

By Ellen D |

We love all parts of the intercoastal. During our ride to this part in florida we viewed may outdoor restaurants and exotic large homes. we saw dolphins galore and many tropical birds..

By Oshent |

Spending some time watching boats of all sizes passing by you and for the lens of your cameras. YOu also can get on board of water taxi from this location.Nice place to see IF you are close.

By Malu de la Fuente |

It was truly fun and quite interesting to experience this boat ride.
Seeing those multi million dollar mansions along the water was a feast to the eyes! Also, the boat guide/narrator was somewhat amusing at times, and delivered stories and descriptions of the beautiful homes we saw during the ride, with clarity.
This activity was worth the time spent.

By p c |

There are water taxis on the Intracoastal Waterway, there are big boat tours, so no excuses. What you'll see along the intracoastal waterway...are..miles and miles of Mega Million dollar yachts..celebrity houses that are also mega millions, dolphins swimming, kayaks (ya crazy eh) marinas, restaurants etc. Go up the New River and get off at Los Olas. This waterway goes from the top of Florida to the keys....but the greatest views are in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It is Floridas Venice....This is an experience you should not miss

By IDC637 |

Inland waterway to travel North/South by water, but us who do not own a yacht or a boat, it’s wonderful to find a great place to have a drink and/or something to eat and just enjoy the “parade” of vessels go by. Even if no vessel goes by still there is always a great view. If you find a place to eat/drink near one of the bridges you get to see the vessels waiting for the bridges to open which normally open every half hour.

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

There are many tiny but long isles in a lagoon between Ft. Lauderdale beach and it's downtown mainland. Those isles host very rich and lavish houses, most of them with terrific yachts docked on the waterway side.
There are many ways to see them. The cheapest way is to drive along Las Olas and to enter the isles. Water taxi tours are better, but they have scheduled itineraries and routes. The best but most expensive is to rent a private boat.
Whatever you do, it will be a feast for your eyes making you think you're in a movie.

By KarenC |

As a resident of our beautiful Intracoastal Waterway I feel blessed viewing picturesque sky’s on a daily basis. There are many waterfront restaurants and areas of town from Pompano Beach to Ft.Lauderdale that are accessible by our water taxi. And available for most beach area hotels. Go online and check out the schedule. It’s a fun ride!

By Profjoe |

The Fort Lauderdale part ofthe US A1A Intracoastal waterway with its bridges, yachts, marinas, fancy homes, parks, manatees and hotels, is serviced by: 2 water taxi services, sight seeing boats, dining ships, massive cruise ships and fishing charterers. Known as the Venice of America, a trip to Fort Lauderdale is incomplete without a water tour. Tip: The sunset catamaran cruise from Lago del Mar marina/ Ft Lauderdale Beach to just outside of Port Everglades is a real treat--Look for Groupons!

By Gracie_mas |

What a fun way to see Fr. Lauderdale's finest homes on rhe waterways. 3 hours from start to finish if you don't exit the boat, longer if you stop at any of the featured stops. Ryan was a great tour guide!

By James G |

Coming from the UK this is a very interesting sight and well constructed. It slows traffic up multiple times a day but only for a few minutes.

By Lana H |

Amazing to see how the rich and famous can afford to live. Hop on and off feature of water taxi is a bonus and the sunset from the Hollywood leg is breath taking. Well worth seeing.

By michaeljH1144SV |

Enjoy a nice two to three mile walk round trip from the marina to Ft. Lauderdale 🏖. Nice protected walking area good for cycling also. Make sure you get across before the bridge is raised for vessels passing below on the water.

By scrapmetal |

If you are into waterfront homes and boats you cant beat this riverway and canal network.Manatees and tarpon are among the water creatures you may see although the water is dark,as well as iguanas. we kayaked and despite large and fastboats as well as jetskis had no safety issues if you stay in the canals and out of the main channel under bridges

By Tania |

Beautiful homes. Nicer boats. Lots to see and walk around. Cool waterway. Easy access by sidewalks, cars or cabs.

By Karla A |

Water taxi is a great way to experience the Intralcoastal Waterway. Many beautiful homes and yachts.

By Asli A |

interesting place ,like a gate to many possibilities ,ı stayed in a restaurant with a intercostal waterway and d not stop myself to take photo videos .

By glencove1 |

You have to wonder where all this money comes from. One of the HUGE boats we saw belonged to the guy who founded Direct-TV. Another one that looked like a warship that had been fancied up a bit belonged to a Russian oligarch. But there are plenty other big fancy barely lived-in houses belonging to people from who-know-where who obviously knew more about making money than I ever did.

By LiveGood |

Romantic, unforgettable, beautiful just to start. Like Venice only closer, cleaner and more beautiful.

By Jenny C |

Fun for boating, kayaking , paddle board, you can go from here to Miami Beach, between beautiful islands . There's many ways to ride even water taxi available at some locations .

By Rhoan |

We spent the day riding
the Water Taxi. The guides were very informative and funny. The ride to Hollywood Beach Margaritaville was good.

By Allen21096 |

We happened to be on the Intracoastal Waterway (aka the ICW or I.C.W.) just before sunset. The scenery on the ICW changes constantly with different boats around you. There are many bars and restaurants along the ICW where you can dock your boat and go ashore to eat or have a cocktail. The skyline is ever-changing as are the sunsets. It would be a fun trip to take a tour boat along the ICW to learn more about the different buildings, homes or the history of the ICW.

By Cheryl W |

We'll of course you're going to be on a boat to visit the Intracoastal Waterway! Private. Public. Anyway you can. Just do it! So enjoyable!

By Richard S |

The many times we cruise from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale we always enjoy the views of this very pretty waterway. You get great views from either port. Also, you can get great views form any number of hotels. In the 50's as a kid I would go fishing on its banks.

By 9Hostages |

Didn't boat on the waterways but thoroughly enjoyed the restaurants overlooking this amazing amenity. Nothing better than sitting outdoors enjoying some food and a beer and watching the boats go by. Recommended.

By 937sjackson |

We took a water taxi which I have never heard of before , it will take you through to waterway and has several stops as the beach, restraints, shops and museums.you can purchase a one day pass and it will take you to several locations or you can just ride up and down the waterway and look at the beautiful homes and boats on the waterway.

I just met 2 sisters thanks to DNA. One is from Texas and one from N. Carolina. They came to Florida so we could get acquainted. Went on Intracoastal River Queen 3 hour cruise to show them my area. What a relaxing, clean, and informative experience. Here is my daughter with my sister, Lu enjoying the intracoastal.

While submitting a review, I was asked about the Intracoastal Waterway. I never thought about submitting a review.

Normally, I see the Waterway in South Carolina. It is always a treat. I especially enjoy the view as it moves inland through the Low Country.

This time, I was in Ft. Lauderdale. Wow the boats. I say boats, but I mean yachts. They are incredible.

Take time to enjoy.

By Marj343 |

Relaxing, and great commentary. Awesome few hours. They run every 45minutes or so, buy a ticket, and hop off & on. The people who steer the boat, etc are knowledgeable, funny & kind.

By R_Sweden |

We decided to take a Water taxi instead of driving around. We saw all the fantastic houses and boats. Very nice afternoon!

By Thomas M |

I’ve traveled the ICW numerous times it’s always so interesting The yachts and sailboat are amazing 🛥⛵️ If you get a chance to find a water side bar make effort to go and watch them go by Capt Thom ⚓️👍🇺🇸

This is a wonderful place to sit and people watch or want help the boats. Always watch the Christmas Boat Parade at this beautiful sight.

By Robert D |

We have charted a dinner cruise on the intercoastal several times. You can have a cocktail while cruising, watching boats cruising and viewing the sites on shore. Dinner is normally very good, service is normally outstanding and sunsets gorgeous. A fantastic romantic outing for couples or special occasions.

The Intercoastal Waterway is a nightmare for travelers that have to use taxis to get to were they’re going and get stuck on it. Get ready to pay an arm and a leg for waiting!

By Florist24hrs |

A ride on a boat through the intercoastal waterway is a sight you don't want to miss . Mansions, yachts, restaurant , natural life , sunrise and sunset , sailing, nightlife and much more . Come on down and enjoy

By Mark R |

We had a very pleasant time riding the Water Taxi from Ft. Lauderdale to Hollywood and back. Learned a lot about the history of the area, the people who own the multi million dollars homes and yachts.

Plenty of stops to get off and enjoy shops, restaurants, cultural exhibits or just sit and enjoy the view.

This is the best way to get around. You’ll also get to see the shipping and cruise ship ports.

A very relaxing time.

By Cass Collins |

I live on the waterway and absolutely love it. Great restaurants along the way and beautiful homes to see!

By rpstrobel |

Beautiful houses to see and many yachts.Very busy waterway but I think it’s because of the boat show.

By Richard S |

This waterway runs from Boston down the Atlantic coast and around the tip of Florida to Brownsville Texas. The total distance is 3000 miles and small boats can cruise this waterway with relative safety. The path includes sounds...bays...lagoons...rivers...and and canals. My wife and I can say we saw it in Boston, and down the coast to Miami including Ft. Lauderdale and around the tip to the West coast of Florida. When you leave on a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale you will see part of this famous waterway. Enjoy it!

By Wanderer584742 |

Took time out to have a day of fishing with the boys and took the Intracoastal Water way to the Port Everglades. The residence and business in the area do take pride in keeping the look. South of the entrance is not as scenic as the port activities get busy at times. Travel north and enjoy the scenery.

By Judith H |

A trip on the waterways are a must if you go to Ft. Lauderdale. You get a really good idea of what the city is like.

By Ed P |

The waterways of Florida's Venice seem incomprehensible at first sight and yet they make a trail from this southern state to the northern parts of the United States. Beautiful bridges rise at attention as yachts and small craft pass under them. The bridges connect Ft. Lauderdale, a barrier island to Florida's mainland and their openings and closings are part of the way of life here.

By kenmcgovern110 |

get on a boat and hit the waterway you can view the sites the homes of the rich and famous where trump spends his weekends and the war time bunker of the kennedys so much to see

By chiefapostlerice |

We took a intercoastal trip just to relax on the enclosed water taxis! The intercoastal was great, travel guide was funny, and a inexpensive way to see great House's! We had a good time!

By TravelManNYC55 |

All boat trips are going to leverage the intracoastal and it was nice to travel down. I was out on it for multiple dive trips and it was a pleasant jaunt. There is one area with sandbar and had many boats anchored against that looked like a fun stop-off point.

If you boat down here, pay attention and don't drink and drive!

By Regulator70 |

You can take fantastic tours on the intercoastal. A great your is millionaire row, where you'll see mega mansions and yachts larger parked behind them larger than some homes.

By terrifurn |

it is so cool to watch the boats. if you get lucky, a huge ship will pass. if you get stuck by the bridge opening, the wait won't be long. shut off your car, get out and walk over to the edige to watch the ships going up and down the intracoastal.

By Paul R |

If you ride the water taxi you will have great views of the mansions and the yachts in Fort Lauderdale. Fun way to see the city other than the beach.

By Adam |

When the rest of the US is in a cold freeze it is clearly a time to head to South Florida. The Intracoastal Waterway is part of that party fun to be included in the tour. Off with the skinny jeans and into the perfect swimsuit, drink in hand and let the coastal breezes blow you.

By kayth0mps0n |

The trips on the intracoastal waterway were fantastic each time. There is something about the water that is as soothing to the soul as it is stimulating. We were impressed by the skill of the Captains as they moved through the various channels. The tour guides seemed very knowledgeable and shared several interesting and humorous anecdotes about the lives and times along the way. The crew were courteous and the boats were clean. I would do these tours many times over and take the opportunity to visit the great shopping areas and landmarks along the way.

By Gakeitse |

We used a popular hop on/off water taxi service to cruise the waterways. It was a fun experience although the weather wasn't great for much of the time. The river walk was a lovely experience and the sun shone for most of it. I decided on the yacht/house I'll buy when I win that mega lottery.

By Dave B |

Water taxi was very informative and had a great time getting off and eating/drinking.
My wife and I also went parasailing, with So Flo parasailing. They were great!
Favorite place to eat while we were there was Coconuts! Fantastic food! Rocco’s Tacos was very good also!

Stunning trip along the Intracoastal Waterway with the Water Taxi. Beautiful locations to see and stunning houses and boats. Highly recommended. ❤️

Sightseeing, transportation, this is a major transportation for Fort Lauderdale. The Intercoastal waterway winds all around the city with many on and off stops. $28 for adults includes all day hop on and off at hotels, restaurants, downtown Los Olas Blvd. They also give you a tour and narrative of the mansions and ships lining the waterway. Highly recommend. Many different boats for riding. Big one has air and drinks.

Lovely view under the sun with a lot of beautiful views. I accidentally passed there twice on my way to the museums and was impressed by their clean arrangements and trash cans spread in an orderly way.

By Charles C |

Years ago we took one of the escorted boat tours of Fort Lauderdale’s intercoastal waterways. It was nice but was expensive. Last summer we decided to see the waterway again. Instead of utilizing a tour boat, we took the water taxi. We got on at the stop in Hugh Burch state park and rode it completely around it’s circuit, ending back where we boarded the water taxi. It was a fun and informative trip. The taxi pilot pointed out numerous sights and told us stories about the people who lived in the grand houses along the waterway. The taxi fare was just a fraction of the price of the large tour boats. The round trip took about two hours and was very enjoyable.

By Tom B |

With all the water in Fort Lauderdale you must spend some time on the intracoastal waterway. There is so much to see and do. Several companies offer daily tours on the intracoastal or you can just jump on one of the many water taxis to explore and discover all that is there.

By Thomas V |

Anyone with a cabin cruiser will enjoy cruising this waterway with stuff to see along the way and a passage to the ocean. For us landlubbers, not so interesting.

By ysd D |

By SharpMinds |

Boats of all sizes and types here on the waterway. That’s mainly what you’ll see but there are certain sections of housing and restaurants tucked in there too. A few bridges to pass under with open water most of the way. A little bit of wildlife was seen however not as much as I’m used to seeing in other areas. You can rent boats if interested.

By Holli J |

If you are visiting Ft. Lauderdale, a great way to get around the city is by water taxis on the intracoastal waterways! There is so much to see and do in a water community and this is, by far, a fascinating way to see things. Download the app called “Water Taxi” (the yellow and green logo) to see when the next one is heading your way.
One of my favorite parts is that the captain’s “first mate” gives you fun facts all along the way! Definitely take a water taxi when we n Ft. Lauderdale!

By Joel S |

The Intracoastal Waterway is an integral part of Ft. Lauderdale's culture. It is the site of lovely scenes, handsome homes, some seriously big boats and cheery restaurants. The gentle swish of the water makes for a pleasant boat ride on the water taxis that ply this canal.

By Cindy K |

Take the Water Taxi and tour the intercoastal waterways of Fort Lauderdale! The homes and yachts are incredible and it's a relaxing adventure. Be on the look out for iguanas!

By Robert R |

its a place that you can watch all these beautiful yachts go by and there is plenty of bars along it that you can do it and water taxi that will take you from place to place for a fee...

By BobAndSatoshi |

It's best on a smaller (private) boat in order to have a more relaxing time and view all the multi-million dollar mansions along the Intercostal Canal. (I'm not big on the big party boats that have too many people and are often very loud and not very personal.) Expect residents to waive hello as you slowly work your way along the canal. A good trip would run from south of Las Olas to north of Commercial. Bring along some wine, food and good friends for a relaxing afternoon or evening.

By Voyager54709179748 |

We took a boat tour of the intercostal waterway. It lasted 1.5 hours and was inexpensive. It was well worth the the money. It was fun just being out on the water. The tour guide was funny and very knowledgeable. The staff was friendly. The bathroom were less than desirable.

By stOOOge |

We took the water taxi and ran up and down the Intracostal. Amazing how it runs in and out here and there and ultimately to the sea itself. Beautiful hours all around it. Gorgeous boats of every description and size. Fun afternoon cruising on it.

By JNB412 |

Great views if you like to look at boats and huge houses. I rode the water taxi (don't really recommend that), but I'd rent a boat so I can be on my own schedule.

By johnwN6511TG |

The water taxi ride was informative, but took over an hour from Hollywood Beach to Fort Lauderdale due to "no wake" speeds. The need to change boats was annoying due to the lack of effective signage.

Rent a boat or take a water taxi up or down the intracoastal waterway. It's a great way to see the different boats, yachts and homes along the way. This is something else to do other than sit on the beach and turn the shade of a cooked lobster.

Never seen so many draw bridges in one city. Very well maintained and will open up to sea traffic immediately. Great job Ft Lauderdale.

By Beachgirl7916 |

The sailing adventure was total fun! The water was very rough though. The ship captain offered to take us to a lagoon, and we should of accepted his offer. Snorkeling was impossible, and no fish were seen.

By often_crabby-travele |

If you drive along these, make sure you're not bleeding to death at the top of the hour or bottom of the hour. Because they stick to the schedule. I understand that folks on the boats can "hit all the lights' if they maintain a certain speed to get to the ocean without waiting for more than one bridge.

very nice and happy people who explain you al about Fort Lauderdale and are, its like a hop on hop off bus we love it!!

One of the great things about Fort Lauderdale is the intercoastal waterway. If you're planning a trip don't miss lunch at one of the restaurants along the water. If your a boat nick you will love it.

We rented a motor boat with a captain. This was really cool. Beautiful ride they mangroves on the canals, saw lots of birds, some iguanas. Marinas were beautiful, packed with nice boats. Downtown was nice, it was cool to see to people on the promenades, pick nicking in the parla etc. A different way to see the city.

This very long waterway separates the barrier islands and built-up coastal developments from the main part of the state. It often appears like a canal and provides its own water views. A heaven for those with pleasure boats.

By Cynthia A |

Have only seen the Fort Lauderdale part of this, but want to see and learn more. Like a freeway for boats crossing many states. Lots of wildlife and scenery.

By LewisandVivian13 |

Atlantic inter coastal is a show stopper. If you love boats and watching everyone come in and out this is the place to be! The boats are so fantastic and we love seeing all the different names of the boats and the different styles. The boat show was going on in Fort Lauderdale so we were fortunate to see some of the latest and greatest boats go by.

Great water taxi tour to Las Olas. Tour guides gave excellent explanation of the mansions and yachts. Las Olas is a great place for a day trip & lunch.

By RhodeScholar123 |

We rode the Water Taxi through the intracoastal waterway, and enjoyed seeing multi-million-dollar homes, geckos sunning themselves, and other sights of interest.

By 387indy |

No matter if on a luxury yacht or the water taxi, its a wonderful ride. The weather is marvelous, the waterfront homes are amazing.

I visited in mid-October 2017, so this is shortly after the hurricane, but life was back to normal, no signs of it.
The beach is fine. Some store fronts are closed/empty. I have mixed feelings about this place, not sure I like it or not.

By BigoBoca |

While many people make their way to the beaches around here, the Intracoastal is another venue that shouldn’t be missed.

By SharonB231 |

Cruise past mansions and yachts. You can take a boat tour or rent a boat and go on your own. Highly recommend the Jungle Queen tour that points out mansions and who owns them. Most mansions here belong to business people unlike Star Island for movie stars and athletes. A great way to see the area.

Great for a boat ride and viewing the city. Use the Taxi Service on the waterway, great value and a great way to get around.

By William C |

We rented a small boat at A1A Boat Rental from 1pm to 5pm. Great guy at the booth.. helpful, reassuring. We spent the whole time being curious up and down smaller canal routes. Then went up to Pompano and back. A great afternoon!

The ICW is awesome. You can spend all days winding through the meandering canals and rivers, looking at the houses, and checking out the bars and restaurants along it. If you don’t have your own boat (or a friends), a great option is the water taxi. It’s a fantastic way to see the city and enjoy the beautiful waterways of our city.

My wife rent a boat for my birthday to give me a personnel stroll of the intercoastal it's a birthday I will never forget she made sure to amaze me in every way possible calm water your guide to explain everything while strolling up and down the coast just simply u believable

Perfect way to get around Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood, especially for first time visitors. The water taxi or the different cruises have different routes including the New River route. When visiting the “Venice of America,” you’ll notice plenty of tropical foliage, mega yachts and mansions along Millionaire’s Row. The guides are excellent, giving you so much information during the ride, so be ready to remember everything.

By Dan W |

All along the waterways are amazing mansions, compounds, restaurants and yachts. Many options are available including boat tours, renting a boat or going on your own along the walkways and docks. It's also delightful to dine and watch as boats command go and the tarpon make appearances. A great way to appreciate the area.

We sailed down the Intracoastal Waterway on both the Sun Dream and the Water Taxi available on the Waterway. Both trips were fantastic, informative and fun!
Everyone is friendly and courteous. Fun to see the lights and beautiful marinas and celebrity homes.

By Jeannie2207 |

Five of us took the first water taxi of the day from Downtown and went all the way to the end of the route to stop 10 where we stopped for lunch. The first part of the trip was on the single deck water taxi and the return journey was on the two deck water taxi. Both had great guides telling us many things we passed, but making the return journey on the top deck made it even better in that we could see so much more.
It was a really fun day and I’d recommend it to everyone.

You can gain an incredible perspective of seriously expensive yachts moored outside seriously expensive properties whilst enjoying a trip along part of Ft. Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway. Watch road bridges rise to enable sailing yachts and other larger luxury boats that are the size of frigates pass under.

By Wangfox |

We always enjoy taking our boat down the intracoastal. In Fort Lauderdale and North Miami, lots of great restaurants on the water to visit!!

Great cruising location on the boat!

By cynthiarob |

There are several ways of seeing these Waterways, Water taxi probably most thorough but Dinner cruises, day trips, fishing trips are alternatives. We have spotted a pod of Dolphins and today spotted(all too briefly) two Manatee cloning up for Air.

By Halkidis |

Make sure to book a Canal/Sightseeing Cruise(like Jungle Queen, near Bahia Mar hotel) or at least have little spin with water taxi, because you just can't miss this! There are dozens of amazing mansions and mega yachts. No wonder they are calling Ft. Lauderdale American Venice. Don't forget your camera!

Take a water taxi on the inter coastal waterway
Pay one fee and travel at your own time and speed
Spend as much time as you want at any of the stops
Take runs from 10:30 am to 10:30 PM
Washroom on boats

Not my first visit to the Intracoastal Waterway but this one put a whole new perspective on it's capability

By larry d |

beautiful ride on the BOAT some of the worlds largest yachts nice restaurants .There is a water taxi that's a nice ride to shopping and having lunch and a drink.

By Mindy S |

It was fun to ride a boat up and down the waterway and see where the rich and famous have summer homes. Beautiful houses to droll over!

By Janice R |

Cool experience to see the homes and yachts along the river and side canals. The Marinas are full of amazing boats.

By drwsurf |

We did about 15 miles on the Intercoastal going North. The Intercoastal waterway here is narrower than other areas in Florida and there is development on both sides. There is no place like this where you can see the most beautiful yachts and mansions. There a lot of restaurants and bars to stop at along the way. Take you time and you will enjoy it.

By cybershellman |

Rented a boat to explore the waterway. Endless expensive homes and boats. Not a good idea to get too close to the properties on the Inter-coastal.

By Arthur T |

Had a wonderful dinner near by (15th Street Fisheries ) and watched the bridge open and close several times. Seems boring right? Not at all, it's amazing to see every time. My children thought it was super cool!! So many gorgeous Yachts and sailboats passing constantly. Very peaceful and beautiful to watch.

By igolfCA |

For the best views of the Intracoastal Waterway, take a tour boat or water taxi. The gorgeous houses and yachts that you pass will certainly keep your interest. From the water, you can see the lovely backyards of these houses and the docks on the waterway for their boats and yachts. Amazing. The Intracoastal is pretty and clean and is so much fun to explore. Loved it!

By 123private321 |

There are many land viewpoints of the Intracoastal, however, by boat is definitely the best. View some beautiful homes, yachts, ships. Remember to catch the annual water Christmas boat parade, at night. Obey maritime safety rules, for utmost experience.

By jlevithan |

There are multiple restaurants and parks that overlook the intracoastal waterway.

A great place to relax and enjoy the boats go by.

By Noel Burke |

Went with some friends on the Intracostal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale Florida. It was indeed a wonderful and worthwhile experience. It was good to see so many boaters enjoying the freshness of the outdoors. There was a friendly atmosphere with persons waving from other boats as they sailed by. In the afternoons of summer it can become very hot; make sure to drink lots of water in order to keep cool. Have a great time out there.

By susan p |

This may not (in my opinion) be the place to swim, but its a blast in a boat. Having friends is such a blessing, having friends with a boat... priceless... lol...

By mersee |

I recommend a hotel / resort with the Waterway View. It's beautiful to look out at while having drinks or your morning coffee. (Visit Aug 2018)

By HarleyMatt |

You have to have a couple of hours on a water taxi to understand Fort Lauderdale.. its great by water and you see things that you cannot by car... It really is a must for your holiday

By Dave B |

WE live on the waterway and feel very lucky to have this spectactualr views and ease of all bars and restaurants -come and visit and take a river taxi to see the stars homes

By LGolden33324 |

The intracoastal waterway starts in Florida and goes all the way up the east coast. It is a method of taking a ship (boat) from the south to the north without having to go into the ocean. In Fort Lauderdale (as with most Florida cities) the waterway separates the mainland from the barrier islands. In Fort Lauderdale the barrier island is the more known tourist areas with the restaurants, hotels, and beach. You can take a boat and see some industrial areas, some very wealthy homes, and even some restaurants. In some places you can rent a boat, or take the water taxi, or charter a boat but I wouldn't suggest walking.

By Pamela&Josh |

What a great spot to sit and dream of being on one of these yachts as they travel along the ICW. Fun place to sightsee.

By AttackedInTheShower |

This hop on hop off attraction is a must for anyone visiting Fort Lauderdale. There are other means of discovering "The Venice of America" but this is the only one where you can stop and smell the various stops the taxi makes. 15th Street Fisheries for lunch or a cocktail, Las Olas Boulevard, the she she poo poo nah nah shopping, dining area of the city, or even take a jaunt down south via the waterway to Hollywood and beyond. The best $ you can spend on an adventure with commentary on all the mega mansions and the celebs call home or history filled stories of what makes Fort Lauderdale Fort Lauderdale. Every time I have visitors, our first adventure is always the Water Taxi.

By TravelerDan1 |

If you're anywhere in the Fort Lauderdale area you must go to the Intracoastal Waterway and watch the parade of every kind and shape and size of watercraft. You could spend hours watching.... and I do!

By Donald C |

This is an area you can tour for days not hours. The views are great and always changing.
We had great weather so that even made the time more enjoyable.

By Allen21096 |

We actually stayed on a 65 ft. yacht on the Intracoastal Waterway and it was fun to see other boats on their tours, as well as some of the other yachts going out to the ocean and come back in to the Intracoastal. The water is always calm, so when you are on board a boat, it just doesn't seem like it. Many of the restaurants and bars have docks, so it is easy to get around on the smaller boats.
