A must stop on Hwy 1... and everyone does. We stopped closer to sunset and it was a mad house trying to park across the street then crossing the street. Worth the view and the photos but pack your patience if you’re going close to sunset.

As Iconic as it gets this 1930s era bridge marks the gateway to Big Sur. Plenty of places to park allow visitors to step out and take some nice photographs. Stay away from the edge, however. No rails. A must stop on any trip to Carmel or south.

Springtime in Big Sur is a great time to visit especially if you want to photograph Bixby Bridge. The beauty of this bridge is the many angles you can photograph it. It’s one beautiful and iconic place to see.

Drove from San Fran down to Big Sur. Absolutely stunning overlook. Seen on car commercials and movies. People pull over and park on both sides of the road. Worth a stop for a photo but don’t fall over taking a selfie!!

Fantastic views, really loved the views as saw the fog lift and the sun come through as we were here. Layby to park in as well

We traveled to Big Sur to see the sites. This was at top of the list. We used an app called Gypsy Guide to take us on Highway 1 to see the sights. This was a must see for all that go that way. We stopped on the side of the road and it was a sight to marvel in. Then we pulled on to the dirt road inland from the bridge and there we could see this magnificent structure in all of its’ glory. My gosh how they constructed this concrete bridge 208 feet above the canyon floor is hard to imagine. Don’t miss this stop.

The trip to Big Sur is all about amazing views even on a day with bad weather like we had. It was rainy and extremely windy, but even that doesn't take away from all of the beauty in the area. Because the weather was bad, there wasn't very many people along the highway so we were able to enjoy it mostly to ourselves. I would love to go back in good weather and truly enjoy it.

Bridge is nice but the surrounding view is the winner. Such a beautiful coastline along the PCH. There are a couple placed to view the bridge.

This is a popular spot, especially on the weekends. Do not double park!! There is a lot of parking on the east side, the left hand side as you travel south on Hwy 1. There is a small pull out area on the right hand side as you travel south on Hwy 1.
Walking out on the bridge is not advised as there is no true walkway and cars travel at high rates of speed over the bridge. Enjoy the bridge from any of the pull outs. The pull outs closest to the bridge are not the only way to view the bridge.

Unique combination of the technical monument and wild nature of the Big Sur. Definitely worth of the visit.

Took highway 1 from Anaheim all the way up to San Francisco. This was the stop i was excited about. There are so many pull offs on highway 1 to get great picts. Highly recommended. Me, my sister, my mother and nephew had a awesome time.

Unfortunate day for us. So just be warned the sun doesnt always shine! We had perfect weather days before and after this road trip but the one day it mattered - FOG. We could only just see half the bridge never mind anything else.
Sure the bridge is still an amazing structure but there are no guarantees you will have the best views
Parking off road on north side but not very big so may have to wait or pass it by if busy

The Bixby Creek Bridge is always photographed in such a way that it looks absolutely huge. However, we drove over it and were only surprised by the number of people in front (Castle Rock Viewpoint, Bixby Bridge Vista Point). The bridge and the Vista Point were not clearly signposted.
The bridge is perhaps just 100 meters long and two car lanes wide (no way to avoid it, no shoulder). The railing barely reaches the side window. You also have to be a little afraid of heights when crossing. We did not find an official, secured viewpoint from which you could see the bridge as well as in the pictures. To do so, you would have to go to the steep slope, which most people do, judging by the trails. The sign "Warning Steep Slope Stay Back" did not interest anyone.
I often confuse the Bixby Creek (especially in photos) with the Big Creek Bridge. However, Bixby is below Carmel and only has one arch. Big Creek is above Lucia with several arches.

Okay I suppose. Quite like looking at bridges but I’d like to have explanation and information boards up about it. Roadside parking appalling. Very dangerous. The bridge wasn’t even labelled as we approached it and yet there’s so much hype about it.

Another must see if you're in California. There is plenty of parking on both sides of the bridge so you can get great photos wherever you stop. If you're lucky, you'll be able to stop both sides!

Whilst on vacation(Oct.) in this part of CA, we drove down here from Monterey. A 26mile drive or so, the weather was sunny, warm and clear. It's a drive with lovely views along the rugged coastline towards the bridge. Parking was difficult, due to people doing the same as us. We went over the bridge and parked up there. Great views from both sides of the ocean coastline and bridge. Well worth the drive to see this iconic part of the Big Sur.

Ran the Big Sur Marathon and this was a favorite stop. You can drive and pull over to take photos - do it, you'll be glad that you did.

It truly is an amazing stop. The views of the bridge are incredible, but so is the view out into the ocean. There is ample parking on the ocean side and even more on the other side. Just don't park where it says not to. While we were there, we watched a CHP officer give two parkers $1,000 fine tickets for being in a very well signed no parking zone.

Bixby Creek Bridge has been the wallpaper on my tablet for over a year. Once I made the plans to visit Northern California, I decided we were going to drive down HWY 1 and see the bridge so I could get my own pictures.
Our last day, we drove from Sequoia National Park to our hotel around San Francisco International Airport. I wanted to see Bixby and go to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. HWY 1 was an amazing drive and the payoff of Bixby didn't disappoint me. It's a must stop when cruising down the coast.

Bixby Bridge is a wonderful landmark along highway 1 in Big Sur - 1966. This stretch of highway was the first in CA to be declared a scenic highway and it lives up to the status. There is a convenient pull out, but be on the lookout for traffic as this a popular spot.

Iconic and beautiful bridge to see. Take your time viewing bridge and snapping photos. What else ca I say really.

Awesome views. Its a must stop on way to big sur. Plenty of space to park the car and take photographs.

It definitely worth 8-hours driving from LA to see the bridge itself and the landscape around. Bring some food for squirrels with you.

Spectacular view .. a must visit for an awesome view and experience . Its about 3 hours drive from Sunnyvale, CA and 1 day’s trip

You have seen this bridge in a lot of movies. It was in Ocean 8 with Sandra Bullock. The best side to take pictures are on the north side. The bridge has been a perfect picture along the CA coast for 87 years.

This bridge looks HUGE and amazing in pictures. However, it is boring and very underwhelming in real life. Cross the bridge. Take one picture. Move on.

You can’t miss it as you drive across. Difficult to find turn out during repaving construction. Just keep eyes on road and let passengers look down.

It is featured in almst every car ad at one point lovely vistas if you are a photographer it is a must

It’s worth the drive out Hwy 1 to see the bridge, it an amazing structure and a great photo stop, a must see

This is a lovely place to stop as you cruise the PCH through Big Sur. The views are amazing and the bridge adds a lovely accent to any photo. A must stop.

Beautiful drive up the coast of California. The bridge is beautiful against the backdrop. A nice day drive with lots to see and places to stop to eat.

This is an iconic bridge on your way north or south on pacific highway 1. There is parking on the north side of the bridge on both the east and west side of the highway. I would suggest the east side for photo opportunities.

Patience is truly a virtue here. There is parking for a very little amount of cars. We were lucky to find a spot quickly. Sat on the rocks, enjoyed the view and ate our lunch.
Definitely worth a stop or to atleast drive over the bridge.

If you're in the Monterey area you need to drive down Highway 1 and see this spot - if you're debating driving up or down route one as part of your road trip DO IT!! It's fantastic. Bixby Bridge was beautiful when we got there in the late afternoon sun.

The Bixby Bridge is a great example of quality engineering in a difficult location. Before the bridge was constructed, travelers had to go 10 miles up the Bixby Canyon to cross before returning to the coast. Over 300,000 board feet of timber was used to build a 250-foot high falsework to support the construction of the concrete arch. The deck is 260 feet above the creek.
Views are good from the south side, but better from the north side. We were there in low season and so there were only 4 or 5 cars in the pullout on the north side. We also walked across the highway (after carefully checking both ways) along the Old Coast Road to get the view from the east side of the bridge.
Take care when parking -- be sure to get wholly off the road. Watch your personal safety when near the highway and the other folks who are pulling in and out.

Great views! Fans of Pretty Little Liars will know all about this spot. Tricky to park but well worth it if you’re traveling on Highway 1

Perfect spot for any type of photographer! Anyone can take a great photo here.... this place is so beautiful

The views don't get much better than what you can see from the pull offs on either side of the bridge. The coastline is absolutely stunning.

Now there are roadworks currently surrounding the bridge, so if heading south you have to cross the northbound lane and park on some quite rough ground. However it is worth a stop. The bridge is a fantastic piece of enginerring, but the bigger draw is the amazing views. Defintely worth the stop.

We went for a drive along the coast and stopped to take some pictures of this gorgeous bridge/view. They were doing some road work and we were stopped at the right place for me to jump out and grab a few shots . A view worth driving to see.

We had to stop to get pictures here, I was most excited because of Big Little Lies!
There are loads of amazing views from this drive and I have fallen in love with this part of California

If you love bridges, definitely make your way down Highway 1 to stop and gaze at the Bixby bridge and to cross it. It is beautiful and can get an awesome sunset shot if you come at the right time.

My husband and I visited Bixby Bridge while making our way down the West Coast. The bridge has a parking area on either side of the street on its north end. We went just before sunset, so we could see it bathed in golden light. It's such a unique and beautiful feature. Definitely worth a stop!

Must go to see this scenic bridge. Photos I have seen are great but in person it is just spectacular.

This feat of engineering is a beautiful subject for a photograph. Pull over, take it in, and capture a photograph. Limited parking exists, but it is possible to do so.

If you are a fan of the series BIG LITTLE LIES, you should give a visit to this bridge! Nice view! It’s always crowded and there are lots of people who want to take a picture! So try to find the best spot;)

The view is beautiful, it's a shame that we were in fog the whole time and it was cloudy and the highway was closed, we weren't able to complete the Big Sur route.

There was quite a crowd here when we stopped, so we crossed over to the other side of the road to see the river valley view. Then *carefully* made our way down to a cliff ledge for these photos (we saw other people doing it or else never would have tried!) Whichever side of road you're on, you can't get a bad souvenir photo here!

We visited five years ago and virtually the whole route was shrouded in fog, so sunny blue skies were a huge bonus. However it was virtually impossible to park, and roadworks on the bridge made for a frustrating visit. But it still is a must-see.

Is the perfect ending for your Big Sur trip
The view of this bridge is amazing and you have pretty good parking space on the north side to park for a few minutes and enjoy the vies and take the iconic pictures for your book

Beautiful view...puts Monterey on the map. A must see on the Pacific Coast Highway. Hang on for the ride...it’s worth it.

Fourth time seeing this bridge and never gets old!! This time, we stayed for sunset and we love it!
This is a must when you’re in Carmel or Big Sur area!
Worth the drive.
So peaceful and relaxing!

It's a treat to watch the Bixby bridge which was constructed during 1932
Marvelous engineering and an example for harnessed civil engineering skills
The pillars and arch shaped support which was holding the entire bridge is an awesome engineering execution
Great piece of master mind

Good photo ops down the road from both ends of the bridge. Be advised it's usually busy with all of us tourist, so be nice and be careful pulling in and out of the vistas.

Not as big as it looks in photos. Still a thrill. Beautiful view of the valley up into the mountain on one side and the Pacific coast on the other.
North end of bridge was a traffic jam with people trying to park to take pictures. No where to park on South end of bridge.
Note for this area and much of Highway 1: If you don't like heights (or the feeling you are going to plummet to your death any moment), drive up from the South so you are on the side away from most of the drop offs.

Vaunted as the Great bridge on PCH but falls way short of eg Seacliff bridge south of Sydney NSW - great engineering but poor in comparison

One of countless stunning scenic vistas on the Big Sur coast. Such a beautiful drive, right up there with the best in the world.

Part of the Big Sur was closed when we were travelling so we knew we would have to turn back, but we drove as far as Bixby Bridge and it was worth it.
My husband was driving and when he saw the bridge in the distance he did think he was going to mess his pants, but he braved the crossing and it was amazing! The views are stunning.

The place and view is very beautiful. It has a steep drop, so if you have little kids with you, I would not recommend for them to get off the vehicle. But even if you are driving through, it's a beautiful place for a quick picture.

Fabulous viewpoint for photos. There is room to park both sides of the highway. Need to be careful if you have young kids as there are no rails around the areas where you take your photos.

It's just a beautiful bridge! The drive from Monterey was pretty and I wish I had more time to have stopped along the way to walk through the various parks we passed. There is quite a bit of construction so it made it more difficult to stop, park and see more.

This is what you think of when you think about the Pacific Coast Highway. It is an iconic bridge. There are places to stop for photos and to have a good look.

I'm not sure what amazed me more, the bridge or the home on the cliff nearby! Plenty of parking for photos. Charles Nixby (1837-1915) was instrumental in building roads.

Lots of travelers now that Hwy 1 is open in both directions. Avoid travel on weekends if possible but worth the Stop!

I had always wanted to go to Big Sur, but it was always closed during each of my visits to California due to the effects of inclement weather. I went to Big Sur on a Friday afternoon in late October, and it was not too busy. The drive from San Francisco International Airport was approximately three (3) hours. There were many places to pull over in order for a person to grab photographs. I will say, though, that I found parking to be difficult. The road of Route 1 was incredibly scenic and amazing, but it was also extremely circuitous and treacherous. I would recommend for any visitors to try to take this drive during the daytime hours, and I would recommend that people wear sturdy footwear due to the difficult hiking terrain. The scenery of the mountains, the practically turquoise blue waters, the rock formations, the plant-life, and the serenity were all truly breathtaking. This was is easily in the background of all of the photographs of Big Sur, and it was marvelous to see it and to cross it.

Had to be done just to take the photo. Parking spot on North end of bridge. Good vantage point and photo opportunity up the old coast road/dirt track to the NE of the bridge.

Drove by a few times before but never stopped. I finally made the effort to stop for pics this time.
The limited parking and side of road stopping is tricky. The locals have no patience for tourists and it can take about an hour or two to make your way back to Big Sur. Some fools stop in the middle of road to take a selfie or get a pic because no spots are left, they cant wait, or they want a unique selfie. There is road rehabilitation at the moment so traffic is bad and viewing spaces are limited.
I am torn on this because there is local concern that the area is getting trashed and way over crowded just for selfies, photos, and drone footage. People are abusing the privilege, disrespecting the law, and common sense. There is a law in the works to limit or halt access to the area to help preserve and offer relief to thru traffic.
BUT, I too would love an image from this majestic area of coastline and historically beautiful bridge.
I guess I really should buy or view images from licensed photogs or historical sites! This has got to be one of the most documented sites in the world so access to great images should be easy to find. I am sure they would be way better than a quick snap.

This is a cool bridge. The views OF the bridge are best from the south. There is a vista point about 1/2 mile up the road. There is a paved spot on the north west side of the bridge if you want to stop and grab pics up close.

The drive along Highway 1 is spectacular and so worth it! Bixby Bridge is a must see along the way and be prepared for queues and traffic. This was the only part of the route where it was busy!
Luckily we could pull into a space at the side of the road as another car was pulling out. Most cars tend to pull in, take pictures and drive on. The bridge is so iconic and is amazing; what's even better are the coastal views!! They are breathtaking!
Even though we travelled in August we needed a warm jacket! It was very windy and cold!

Amazing time with my best friend revisiting old haunts and making special memories as part pu a tour from LA to SF. Had the best time we loved and laughed all the way.

My husband and I have taken Big Sur road trips several times and, of course, always stop at the Bixby Creek Bridge to take photographs. This iconic bridge, built in 1932, is the star of any photos here so it does not matter if the weather is bright and sunny or gray and gloomy.
We like to photograph the bridge from both sides: facing inland and facing the ocean. Both views offer lovely scenery: the Pacific Ocean, the waves on the beach below or the hilly landscape inland (although during one of our droughts, the brown hillside is definitely not as photogenic as the blue Pacific). To park on the ocean side and cross to view the bridge from the inland side, please be very careful, especially if you have children in tow.
The bridge is definitely worth the stop on your way through Big Sur. It is at the top of Instagram-worthy destination lists, not that I know much about that, but the bridge is an engineering marvel and a lovely bridge to view and photograph.

Walking the A1 and passing the Bixby Bridge is wonderful. The photo stop is mandatory, with the impressive bridge and silver on the cliff.

Best viewed on your way south since you're on the same side of the road as the existing parking area. On a clear and sunny day, it looks exactly as all the photos you see.
Be careful around edge! It's on the tourist trail, but does not have tourist guardrails to protect idiots. Thankfully! Please use common sense so it doesn't get paved over and ruined with fences!

The wind was whipping. The bridge is smaller than it appears on television but nonetheless a fun moment to identify something so iconic. Such a beautiful drive.

Be careful if you walk down the side trails as it can get crowded. Other than that, it's a must if you're in the area. Very beautiful bridge located at a very special place.

Beautiful view! Very windy and cold when we went so we snapped some pics quickly and then sat in the car a minute to admire the view. Parking can be tricky when it’s crowded and backing up was a bit scary with oncoming traffic and a huge car blocking our view.

This bridge makes a great photo opportunity. We pulled over several times to get different perspectives.

You can't drive the Pacific Highway and not stop at Bixby Bridge, it's the most iconic bridge in Big Sur. You'll know when you arrive because of the hoarded of people and cars dotted around the roadside.
Thankfully the area is big enough to get an unobstructed view of the Bridge and surrounding coastline. The same can't be said for parking however. You'll be lucky to find a spot during the day.
It's a wonderful sight and an engineering triumph. Cameras at the ready!

If you're staying in Monterey or Carmel, you should do yourself a favor and take the drive down to Bixby Bridge. It's an Iconic bridge that you've probably seen dozens of photos of or in movies and tv shows.
It's quite spectacular and beautiful and definitely worth a few photos. Please be careful about parking, walking, or hiking to get that one of a kind shot.

This was a wonderful experience. Great view and not at all frightening. I had seen the bridge in the opening credits and was excited to drive over it. We drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles, stopping in Carmel, Cambria and Santa Barbara along the way. This bridge is only about 13 miles south of Carmel. There are quite a few spots where you can pull over to take pictures along the highway. If you want to turn around and drive over the bridge again however the spot right after the bridge is quite small.

As one drives south on hwy 1 you cross Bixby Bridge. See the bridge from both sides of the road, as the views are different. You will be glad you did.

Definitely worth a visit when in the area. There's plenty of places to park the car on the roadside. Pretty crowded though. The bridge looks amazing.

The scenic drive down hiway 1 is awesome. I would recommend during the week and not a holiday week. Scads of cars and people. Good thing we were early. Coming back around noon there had to be 3 miles of stop and go headed south

The bridge is beautiful, if a bit crowded. It’s tough enough to get a nice photo without other people in it. We were greeted by tiny squirrels, very friendly.

While visiting this area, this was one of my stops. Very famous bridge which ive seen multiple times in shows, commercials, movies. Was abke to stop next to it (north side), and take a few pictures. Very nice bridge

The viewpoint is perfectly situated for viewing and photos. Amazing feat of engineering given when it was designed and constructed.

The Bixby Bridge is on the Pacific Coast Highway about 15 miles south of Carmel. It is a stunning bridge in the middle of a picturesque area. Parking along the road is pretty chaotic but certainly worth it to get a good view.

Nice view, specially for the show fans (Big little lies).
Nice views in the way there (US 1 California): ocean, beach, forests, etc.

Definitely a must when traveling south on HWY1! We stopped by and were pleasantly greeted by the cutest squirrels! I didn't know to bring food, or they would've loved me even more. The bridge is such a nice site, and also the drive on it is also nice when looking down from the passenger seat!

The bridge is not big. There is no place to park at the bridge. You can park on the shoulder and risk your life crossing Route 1. My advice: go, don't stop.

The Bixby bridge is a good place to stop by and take some pictures. Nice view for the occasion and the mountain.

The Bixby Bridge was a beautiful scenic stop while driving down the PCH. The architecture of the bridge and the views were spectacular. We spent about 30 minutes there just enjoying the sights. There are even little furry creatures to observe as well.

Get there early in the morning so that you don't have to wait for parking. Iconic bridge, beautiful and an engineering marvel. Its one of the most photographed spots in the area because of its architecture and its fantastic setting. You cannot miss this on your Big Sur visit.

Traveling north on RT. 1 from Los Angeles to the northern corner of the US we drove over the Bixby Bridge and stopped to admire the coastline.
The California pacific coastline is breathtaking, the rocky cliffs that meet with the blue green water is worth stopping to appreciate.
The Bixby Bridge is an amazement also, the shear size and design as it spans the rocky coast is worth stopping to admire.
Great views and a nice resting spot.

Loved the drive, view along the pacific ocean.
its a beautiful experience and Bixby completes the drive and yes it also gives the best pics :-)
you can park the car just before the bridge and walk down to explore the best place for the photos!

Bixby Creek Bridge is well worth the turnout for a lengthy view of the incredible vista! The bridge itself is spectacular and the view of the surrounding shore is like nothing else!

There is a lone safety/security guard sometimes patrolling here, as it's totally manic with haphazard parking on the sides of Hwy 1. Please be careful as you park and dashing back and forth across the highway if you parked on the opposing sides. The views are gorgeous, but this was one of the most unsafe spots for us due to the mania with congested crowds, cars flying past and people running across the road.

We enjoyed a very nice view fo Bixby Bridge from Rocky Point Restaurant. This is an iconic bridge on highway 1 Big Sur area. We then drove across it
We have been to Bicby Bridge many times.

Living on the east coast this area and bridge have been on my bucket list for years. When I got there it was so foggy that I parked at the bridge area and couldn't even tell there was a bridge there except for the firs visible 50 feet or so. Don't fret if this happens to you. I drove south for a bit and hung out at Nepenthe. I returned about an hour later and the visibility improved however I didn't get any beautiful blue sky pics as others posted. It was still amazing and I got to cross this spot off my bucket list.

We started from Oceanfront Ranch ,drove to Bixby bridge and drove back to Lucia Lodge. This way we were able to experience North and South bound views. We went on 30th Nov. There was a risk of rain and land slides but it was a nice day BUT Careful our fears materialized a weak later when the 40 miles of Big Sur was actually closed off. Next time we will avoid the the rainy season

As a subset of this brilliant portion of Highway 1, the Bixby Bridge is pretty ho-hum. It's worth stopping if one is on the way to/from Carmel/Big Sur, but it's nothing more than a moderately-old bridge in the midst of a spectacular drive.

This small bridge is a well-known attraction on Highway No. 1 along the California coast. Unfortunately, we couldn't see much of it because of the thick fog. Due to the lack of parking lots, many visitors have parked their cars on the side of the road, which is not entirely safe with this rather narrow road.

The bridge is super high and of course it is very famous from all the car commercials. It also pro ides some great views of the surrounding countryside.

I'm a history nerd. When I planned a trip for my mom and myself, I purposely planned a route that would take us by this bridge. I was worried I wouldn't make it before the sun set (we got hung up in Santa Cruz boardwalk traffic), but we did. I did not stop at the turnout because it was a busy Saturday. But I plan to return on Monday when conditions are safer.
I ask that if you go to see this marvel of engineering genius to please respect the safety of others as well as the surroundings. People live here and we don't want them to resent tourists who come to see the beauty that is the California coastline.

You probably have seen pictures of this bridge even if you had no idea what the name was or where it’s located. I know that’s how I first saw it. When you actually see it in person, you say “I know that bridge.” Let’s be clear. It’s a great looking bridge and it’s placed in a fabulous location. Whether you are coming from the north or the south as soon as you glimpse it, you focus on it like a laser, which is dangerous if you are driving. Better to have your spouse drive. The view is phenomenal and I have never driven by without seeing cars parked on the south side of the bridge and their drivers ogling in complete fascination. Usually, it’s filled to overflow and frustrated drivers are forced to move to a different location, further away, to ogle. Get there early so it doesn’t happen to you.

We took highway 1 just to passed by one of the famous most pictured bridge. But because of the limited space of parking you have to wait... but its worth the long trip!!

A Historic Bridge that is Iconic to the Big Sir Highway . Was built in 1934 and amazing for the period. Check the building pictures out at the Big Sir River Inn.

One of the most magical bridges in California. It’s usually crowded with tourists and photographers so be prepared for a little traffic. But its all worth it! The views are incredible, the sounds of the ocean are soothing and the air is so fresh and clean.

This bridge sits in one of the most picturesque spots in Big Sur. It was foggy when we went, but it was still awesome.

The Bixby Bridge is definitely a stop you need to make when you drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. Make the stop just before you arrive at the bridge so you can get the best shot of it with Big Sur in the background. There were just a few cars there when we were there, as people come and go from that spot.

Big Sur is a beautiful stretch of coast and this bridge , built mainly by convicts adds to the grandeur - try not to miss it as you drive along this iconic stretch of California.

It's all that. Take a picture. Coming from San Francisco stop on the left before the bridge and take in Nor Cal at it's finest. Yes, it's worth a drive down from San Francisco just to see this.

Stopped for a photo op of this iconic bridge. The weather was gorgeous and the views are to die for!

Classic motor car photo shoot bridge. Great driving over it but like many things it’s when you stand back and view it from a distance. With the turquoise blue of the Pacific Ocean in the foreground it’s quite a sight.

Stopped as most people do. It is a nice view, but overcrowded to get a picture of a bridge. Be carefull crossing the road.

So headed to take the must do shot of Bixby Bridge- what a disappointment. Road works meant unable to stop. The bridge is much smaller than I thought. The views were very good. However there are so many good views on the road

We went to Big Sur by way of Carmel by the sea. Driving down highway 1, stopping at all
The vista stops and seeing the famous Bixby Bridge. Pictures can’t capture the beauty, you just have to see i! One of the Best day trips I’ve had. The awe inspiring views give you spiritual insight and a sense of well being.

This is an iconic bridge - just make sure you don't drive by and not notice you have missed it as you'll be disappointed

One of the most scenic backdrops I’ve ever seen! Just gorgeous. The bridge and water views are worth stopping!

This is one of those things you need to stop and see when doing the Big Sur drive.
While it is interesting to look at unless you are especially interested in bridge architecture I'd just make a brief stop.
The coast is the star here and anything man made plays second fiddle.

The bridge is beautiful, but the parking is always full and the view is obscured by the people taking selfies. Stop back up the coast and use a strong telephoto lens if you have to take a picture. Be careful when you drive by as the selfie people back right out into the road . . . don't need any roadkill.

This site is certainly worth the pull over. Walk along the bluffs for a good view of the bridge and gorgeous Big Sur scenery. One can't help but contemplate the cleverness of the engineers and courage of the construction workers.

Stopped here on our way down to Big Sur and was just as amazing as photos we have seen. Such an amazing piece of history and breathtaking views.

As a BLL fan had to come here, drive it and photo it. It does get busy at the weekends so be prepared for crowds.

If you are taking the Pacific Coast Highway, the bridge is a mandatory stop. It looks beautiful but a little overhyped IMO. Great to spend some time here and take photos. The bridge surrounding could get crowded but there are enough parking spots to stop by along the highway.

We drove along the Pacific Coast Highway from Monterey to Point Sur Lighthouse and back, so crossed the Bixby Bridge twice. On both occasions it was too busy to park but due to road works we managed to get a great view of the bridge. It’s an amazing structure

Bixby Bridge is kind of the emblem of Big Sur, but it's not the only one
WHAT A DISCOVERY that this coast and this road
Everything is beautiful, beaches, views, waterfalls, small village...
It's unimaginable even

We enjoyed the Bixby Bridge, but we went there at a weekend and it was very busy. If I was to go back again I would try and make it on a weekday, I don't know, bt I feel that it may be a little less crowded.

Unfortunately, the day we passed the Bixby Bridge, the viewing area was completely closed with no place nearby, that we could find, to park. So we just saw the bridge (on this trip) as we drove up to the bridge. We happened to stop at a viewing point before this bridge (travelling southbound) and were able to take pictures of a smaller version of this bridge that was also quite beautiful with the ocean on one side and the green hills with a stream winding around on the other side.

You cannot randomly stop and take narcissistic photos of yourself at most places on the 1. Ruined by rich tourists, the whole coast.

It is not marked on the road, so make sure you know you are coming up to it. Nice areas to get out and take pictures !!!!! Beautiful country side

Drove South on Monday, July 15th, and the small parking area was jam packed, and the queue to find parking extended north, up the side of Highway 1. That’s, mind you, on a Monday morning.
Drove North by the bridge on Wednesday, July 17th, and couldn’t stop, as construction crews were working to remove the “Overtourism is ruining Big Sur” message that had been spray-painted very vividly on the parking lot surface. So no one got to stop to enjoy the Bixby Bridge view—was down to one lane of traffic.
The attached photos were taken by me a mere four years earlier—Monday, July 27th, 2015, at 6 PM: about seven people at the parking site, on a gorgeous summer evening, during the peak of tourist season. Very obvious to anyone who’s stopped at this gorgeous location that there are a very modest amount of people enjoying this vantage point at that moment.
I’m sure these two photos will contrast with any that have been taken at this spot this summer. Whether it’s Instagram that’s causing this, or that ‘Big Little Lies’ intro scene, it’s a shame that this location has gotten absolutely trampled by the public.

I’m not usually a fan of just ticking off a checklist of things to do on holiday so I reluctantly went to visit Bixby Bridge as my wife want to see this iconic landmark. It was however simply stunning! The drive is good fun, you get an amazing viewpoint of the bridge but also if the sea and get a real feel of the power of nature. Highly recommend getting there early and then going to Nepenthe for lunch!!

Imagining the construction of this beauty, nearly nine decades ago, left me in awe. To build such a long and so high of a bridge over a ruggedly beautiful canyon was such an accomplishment. Enjoy the architecture...the natural beauty of the canyon and coast are just icing on the cake.

The bridge is something to see for sure. It was tall and looks so skinny. But going over it is bigger than what you think. A great resting spot to take photos of the ocean views.

Get there at an early or late part of the day. You will avoid crowds, and have better views of the bridge in the morning and evening light. Heading south, pull off on the right side, Ample room and enjoy the view. Cross the street - carefully for a look from the other side. On the way north, cross bridge and pull off onto narrow road on right. Again, depending on the time of the day, the view - light will be different. Again cross street for other view in different light. Middle of the day - light is ordinary, but view is still amazing. It is however, VERY crowded.

You have to appreciate the engineering marvel this bridge was for its time. Several scenic overlooks nearby.

Apparently, if you walk a bit further and down with the trail (but be careful), you'd get a to a spot with breathtaking views of the bridge and the cost. Photos are exceptional. Definitely worth a stop!

This artistically designed bridge is worth a stop if you are driving on Hwy 1. If you are south-bound, there are pullovers along the side of the road. If you are north-bound, there is a dirt road (called Coast Road in Google Maps) that goes up the hill after you pass the bridge. It offers a better vantage point. Whether you plan to stop or not, watch out for tourists trying to cross the highway.

Iconic, Gorgeous and you can drive on it! As a matter of fact, if you are on the Pacific Coast Highway, you have to. FYI- to stop and take a picture, be ready to pull over at the Northern part of the bridge. You can't miss it, as everyone else is there already; however, parking spaces seemed to turn over quite quickly. Death-by-selfie alert! You can get quite close to the edge trying to get you and the bridge in the shot- be careful. Oh, and another thing not to do is to not feed the squirrels (not matter how cute they are). But that admonition is clearly more of a "Me-thing", as many people were treating them to 4, 6 and 12-course meals.

Beautiful views, beautiful bridge. Stop at the north end to get great pictures of the bridge and scenery.

The bridge along the winding road of the coast with views of the Atlantic is pretty. It feels dramatic and fits the landscape. Only downfall is if you are there when the weather is not so great like us. It was still cool even in bad weather though can imagine how much better it would be on a clear day. Still the drive along the coast is nice and this is a good stop along the way.

Beautiful bridge! There aren't huge signs of anything so have it marked in your maps before you head out. Limited parking but lots of little areas to possibly park. Great views but if you have little ones, be mindful of the steep slopes.

Decided to take a day trip to Big Sur and this was my first stop. Bixby Bridge is aesthetically pleasing and has plenty of different spots to take nice photos. Sadly it was very crowded and I was only able to capture photos of the bridge from one perspective but beautiful nonetheless!

Bixby Creek Bridge, on the Big Sur coast of California, is one of the most photographed bridges in California due to its aesthetic design, "graceful architecture and magnificent setting". It is a reinforced concrete open-spandrel arch bridge. It was Completed in 1932, the concrete span soars 260 feet above the bottom of a steep canyon carved by Bixby Creek.
It was under construction, thus we were forced to stop right before crossing bridge. That’s also why we had time to get out of our car to take some photos. It’s indeed very beautiful bridge spanning cross the ocean water. Definitely a must visit and photo-taking spot during your Route #1 driving.

Bixby bridge is a picturesque spot in stunning Big Sur area, and one of the most photographed bridges on the Pacific Coast Highway. We drive over this iconic bridge whilst driving on our road trip.
The towering bridge against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs and the endless Pacific was surely a magnificent scene. If you're driving Big Sur you'll see it anyway, but take a few moments to stop and appreciate it. We even spot an artist sketching the bridge in his canvas by his brush.
Parking at the vista point was a major issue because there was always lot of people to see a glimpse on it, and fortunately, we found some space to park ours.

This drive up the coast is just beautiful! We drove it as the sun was setting and were able to get the most amazing pictures over the ocean.

Beautiful Bridge but we didn’t get to see it in all of its glory because of the construction. I was trying to get pics while hanging my head out of the window and some guy was screaming at me to move! I wasn’t to happy about that but Injust kept taking pics. I’m here one time and won’t get to stop because of the construction but I will take my time to drive/ride over it and take the pics.

Great photo opportunity along Pacific Coast Highway. This bridge has appeared in a lot of movies! If you have any issues with heights be prepared!

This is the monumental bridge that is probably have been photographed almost as many times as golden gate and brooklyn bridge. Last seen in "Big little Lies" on TV. There is parking space (I will not call them parking lots) on both side and people seem to drive past with some care at least. Its beautiful and just getting a 5 min brake from driving is totally worth it. Watch your step when walking backwards towards to edge to get that perfect #selfie :)

Gorgeous place to stop for some scenic pictures. You have the bridge and the ocean. However, I have a huge fear of falling so I didn't venture too close to the edge of the cliffs or walk near the bridge. We stopped here on a Friday. There were quite a few tourists stopped but we still found a place to park and look around. Gorgeous views. Highly recommend to stop. You need a 1/2 hour or less here.

Driving PCH through Monterey and stopping to see the Bixby Bridge is definitely a bucket list MUST DO! The views of the ocean and cliffs is something I will remember forever! Be sure to check weather advisories as I’ve learned it can play a part on driving certain parts of PCH! If you can do a convertible... even better!

One of the most overrated California tourist destinations is still a pretty one. Perfect the Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Grindr and whatever social media narcissist such as myself. Depending on your level of narcissism, you could spend 2 minutes or an hour here trying take that perfect selfie.

Stopped here on our drive along Hway 1 on our way back to Orange county.
This is one of the most popular bridge used in films . So glad we got to see it up close. The view was stunning. Just be warned that it can get crowded. We were lucky to get a parking spot. You shouldn’t miss this if your driving along Hway 1.

We stopped and marveled at the view. The bridge, water, and the sheer steepness of the coast and the pitch of the drop! Just beautiful. A must do for the camera.

Bixby Creek Bridge is one of many things to see during your drive on California State Route 1\Highway 1.
Many of them are worth stopping, taking a picture (or few) and memorizing for life.
This iconic bridge is one of them and you just need to find a place, park and realize that this nature surrounding is one of the BEST you will see (on my opinion).

One of the most spectacular coast lines in the world. It was very tempting to continue driving after a long day. Wow the moment you stop and marvel at the amazing architecture of this bridge and the contrast against the water. Beautiful. Take lots of images.

Very cute bridge, many people stopping to take photos. Gorgeous scenery. Just be cautious while driving through there. Many people fall off the cliff.

My wife insisted on visiting the Bixby Creek bridge while we stayed in Carmel. Big Little Lies she says to me...OK. Lets go see this bridge.
Quiet road to get there but an hour of traffic to get to the bridge and only 1 road leading in and out of it. The views were spectacular on the way there though. Made the trip worth while. The bridge itself is OK..

We drove from LA to San Francisco so we could take the route along Big Sur and drive across Bixby Creek bridge and it was so worth it.
The parking is a bit of a free for all as people just stop wherever they can. We didn't realise at first so we ended up driving over the bridge and then going back. Once you're on the bridge the view is wonderful, with the crashing waves and sea air.
Lots of people there but if you wait, you can get any pictures you want.

The Bixby Bridge is a sight to be seen. It's probably one of the most photographed bridges on the California coast. We were lucky to view it on one of the most beautiful sunny days. Lots of people pulled over to take pictures. Its' breath taking and humbling to think of what it took to build.

This is a historic bridge, so it attracts lots of tourist to stop here. Parking is available on both side of PCH. You can occasionally see people flying drone near here trying to get a goos view of the bridge ( I know I did).

On the way to LA from SFO on the scenic drive comes a beautiful wooden bridge in Big Sur. One can take beautiful pics of it. Climbing down the hill u can enclose the pics of the bridge with mountains . U can even click pics of the magnificent ocean. A nest of puffin birds can be seen down on the beach

Highlight of our west coast road trip. This bridge is the epitome of the Big Sur and it was everything we expected. There's just something really special about this bridge.

Beautiful upon approach- the lookout spots were quite crowded so I didn’t stop. But the drive to and from is well worth the time

Sometimes we take living in California for granted. Since we can’t travel as much as we would like to, we’ve decided to explore the local spots like Bixby Bridge. You’ve seen the the pics on IG, but it’s really cool to see in person. Not the weather is really unpredictable, but once it clears up, it’s amazing. Like the other day, there’s a parking spot on the North Side of the bridge. There’s also a turn off to the left too. Be mindful if you choose the latter as I think it’s a turn off for residents who live there.

As we approached the bridge, we could not use the turn off to get out and get a good look because there was construction and the crew had the lane down to one land. We couldn't get over to the north bound turn off because it was jam packed with cars. Fortunately because of the one lane, we were stopped for a long time on the south side of the bridge after crossing and I was able to get out and get some pictures. Mark the bridge on your map.me or offline map at MON 59.8 so you know to look for the turnoff before it is too late.

We did it, all the photos I've seen and views from 'big little lies', and what an amazing drive.
The big Sur is incredible, each turn is breathtaking, some parts of it is similar to the Mediterranean, and then a bend later it's rugged and wild again. Along the highway you will see seals, elephant seals, otters and various birdlife. Stunning.

I had seen the bridge from the sea and stopped on a drive down the coast. It's very scenic and a great photo op, but consider it a brief stop along a longer journey.

Stopping at Bixby Bridge Vista Point was a highlight of our trip! The towering bridge against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs and the endless Pacific was a sight to behold. We marveled at the engineering and took in the stunning views as a family. It’s worth arriving early to beat the crowds and get the perfect spot for photos. Moments like these make the Big Sur coastline unforgettable.

Pulled off Hwy 1 along with other drivers to take in the great views of the ocean and bridge. It was breathtaking!

Bixby bridge is one of the tourist attraction situated on the coastal road nearby Pacific Ocean. It is a historic bridge constructed in 1932 and it is giant one. Parking facilities are available. Tourist can have a beautiful view.

Another bridge. Not really much to see here to be honest unless u have an attachment to bridges of some sort. Jump in the car and keep on driving.

Not a must stop but makes a good photo. The strange thing is that this is such a highlight of the Big Sur route but there has not been made a lot of effort to accommodate the traffic with all of those cars stopping on the side of the road to take a photo of the bridge.

Going to Pfeiffer Beach I for got all about Bixby Bridge. But on our way back we park on the right side where your not suppose to since every one parked by the bridge.
View is amazing! Super high cliff and you will not be able to go down to the bottom I can tell you that.
Super pretty view and it is a must see if your driving through the coast.
But not to hype it up all the way it is just a little stop with a view, minimal parking and car flying through driving.

If one had to illustrate the marvellous engineering and breathtaking scenery of Highway 1
then this is THE Bridge to do it.

If you are driving around Carmel and doing beach combing of the entire - this is your feast to the eyes and senses . The sheer beauty of it comes to sight as you near it . The spread of the ocean and view from this height gives the experience of beauty of the Big Sur !

This review is more about the entire drive through Big Sur than Bixby Bridge per se. But you can't do one without the other. The views down the coast are breayhtaking. Quiet semi-windy roads which are very well maintained. We did this in January and spotted whales shortly of the coast. Magical.

This is a beautiful bridge in a spectacular location. I was very excited to travel over it. I've seen pictures of it many times, I'm glad that I saw it in person. Traveling south on Hwy 1, Bixby Bridge is a landmark as you enter Big Sur.

Pulled of here to take in the sights. Parking is easy to get in and out. Plenty of spots when we were there. I have a video of the squirrels on my YouTube account @onecoolraisin.

We have driven past the Bixby Bridge a few times and each time we are always in awe of its beauty. When time allows we love getting out of the car and getting close and even think one day we might run the Big Sur Marathon! The best views are coming from the north side of the bridge and when you find a spot take it, as if you go to far and don’t get one you may miss out and might need to circle back!

Absolutely worth the drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. Just a short 15 miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is an amazing site, but not for the front of heart as the bridge and the road leading up on either side is rather narrow with big drops down to the ocean. Be sure to pull over to take photos and look around.

Passed by this bridge at the beginning of September: we drove from LA to SF honestly just to see it. Well, it is really interesting, a big bridge into the wild nature, panoramic view, a symbol for California. But... if it is foggy and cold your visit can become a pain! Plus, consider there are a lot of tourists that like you will stop on the area to take a selfie. I would recommend to visit it planning it after have checked the weather. That we did ( it supposed to be sunny!) so just unlucky people :/

We drive over this iconic bridge whilst driving the PCH on our road trip!
Unfortunately we couldn’t pull over into the turn out to take those special pics, as incredibly busy so no parking space!
We did turn back to go over the bridge again in the hope, but by the time we reached the bridge, fog - the marine layer as it’s known, had rolled on in! Any chance of that much wanted pictured had vanished in such a short space of time!
So beware fellow road trippers, when the mist rolls in……

What an amazing feat of engineering for the 1930s and its pretty beautiful as well. Great stop on your drive down the coast. Such a magnificent site. Make sure you stop and get out and take it all in.

This has become a very dangerous spot to drive through, nevermind stop. Few legal parking spaces results in people just stopping suddenly in the middle of the road to grab that selfie. I have seen them PARK in the middle of the highway, lock their car, and walk away. Locals call it The Nightmare at Bixby.

This place is insanely busy and people walk and park in the middle of the road. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. Gorgeous views but way too many people.

You can stop and walk around. The coast is spectacular and the bridge is just plan fun to check out. Highly recommended.

This is a must see!!! This place looks just like the photos and it is just beautiful. You can pull over to an area just before the bridge for the perfect few. We visited just before Memorial Day and it was not crowded but we were told it is very busy in the summer so plan extra time. I would also avoid going there on a foggy day if possible because it will obscure the view per some of people we met. Again, the drive up or down highway 1 to this site is well worth it.

Big Sur and Hwy 1 are breathtaking. This is a good spot to stop and take it in. Especially for the driver as you have to keep your eyes on the windy road here while your passengers oooo and Aahhhh at scenery.

Because it is the highest of several bridges on the Coast road to Big Sur, and it has appeared on a postage stamp and in films and commercials, the single-arch Bixby Bridge is the best-known of the bridges on Highway 1 south of Monterey. Aesthetically we feel it is not as pleasing as double-arched bridges, and there are no spits of land that give us a more from-the-ocean view. But it has much more adjacent parking space than any other bridge, it is a favored site of BASE jumpers, some of whom tragically have jumped to accidental deaths, and it has been the site of several suicides. Although its height is quite dramatic when seen up close, we prefer the distant view of the Bixby Bridge, even though we can't get farther out into the ocean to see it from a better angle. The distant view from the south includes the signature line of rocks equidistant from the shore, passing in front of the bridge, as if they are stepping stones for a Brobdingnagian tourist who is trying to get a better view of the bridge from the ocean.

Worth stopping to say you did, an amazing feat in architecture. Stop on your way South to get a classic picture

There are so many beautiful things to see on the big sur coast! This bridge was built in the 1930s and is an engineering marvel considering the dramatic cliffs its built on. Its a beautiful historic sight and worth the stop. Be careful though.- it's a windy road and popular picture spot. Great place to view a sunset.

Never seen a similar bridge. Really interesting architecture and good spots for pictures.
Definitely worth the spot along the Big Sur route.

This bridge is amazing. Crossing over to 'the other side' is magical...one is on the way
to Big SUr and the magical redwood forests
and pristine beaches. It's a landmark that's
quite unforgettable...and Big Sur is a must
visit place when in the Monterey area!

Well worth a visit!
Stunning feat of engineering
Beautiful setting
It’s a wow moment!
Go see it! We were so glad that we did. It was on our itinerary and it did not disappoint.
I recommend viewing it.

The bridge is, well, a bridge (no offense to civil engineers intended). I think it’s the views rights before and right after that make the drive there worth it. Getting a picture right by the bridge is kinda sketchy as people are parked all over. Watching people take selfies in the road is (dangerously) funny. Anyways, very pretty views.

this is a stop on my 1 day big sur PCH road trip! i made a y0u tube video with tips and info you need to know about all 5 stops & 2 restaurants, so you can be prepared!
search "Nikko Gandia Travels" or find a link to my y0u tube on my profile.
all stops have free parking options and are easily accessible to most and can be explored rather quickly.

We've been here before and have always loved it. Maybe we are a bit biased because the crowds seem to get bigger and bigger every time.
On a Sunday, with every intention of stopping for the traditional Bixby Bridge photo, we were ready. Only so was everyone else. Wow! The road was lined for a long ways with photo seekers. The vista points on both sides were also very crowded. With very few options for parking we drove on.
Next time I would do this attraction on a weekday, but it is still very worth seeing if you're a first timer.
I'll do it again sometime.

Glad I did research on the highway when we started to make our way back. There it was,Bixby bridge from Big little lies and being the most photographed bridge on this highway. We took photos from both views, the north being our favorite and best in our opinion. Be careful crossing the street. There is alot of history in the building of this bridge. Definitely worth the stop and the visit.

Great drive and very picturesque views along the coast on Highway 1. Parking at the vista point was a major issue and we had to park on the other side of the bridge where the views were not so great.

Beautiful! Very nice view. Getting a Parking spot is a challenge. It takes about couple of hours from SFO area. Worth the drive! There are lot of visitor view points around this area.

The Bixby is a work of art. It joins the mountains and has such a beautiful cove below. The dirt road to the east offers the best views. This road is best for pictures!

Great place to stop and drink in wonderful views. We stopped on our way northbound from Big Sur and found the sights breathtaking.

Stop on the north side of the bridge for the best view that will capture the bridge and the coastline

As seen on Big Little Lies tv show, this spot is beautiful and a must see when travelling the PCH. Highly recommend. Doesn't matter how you take the pictures its, worth it.

The bucket list picture of coastal California must include the Bixby Bridge on the North side of Big Sur.

It’s a wonder to behold the works of man! This bridge is an example of what can be done with mental and physical competency. Crazy beautiful and well worth searching for a parking spot, to get that perfect shot! May 22, 2021

A beautiful bridge along the coast... beautiful views but very limited parking. There are some great views of the bridge south of the bridge along the highway turn outs

I've been by this spot number of times over the years. It's now a "must stop" for lots of people. The "parking area" is not large, it's mostly dirt. Be careful, people aren't watchful and park any where even behind your car. If you go down to the small view level, it's dirt and loose rock. There isn't a railing so it's straight down to the ocean, watch out for those taking selfies! Now enjoy the site and get great photos. Tip: right across the Hwy. 1 is a dirt road across from the parking lot. There are much saver spots to park and spots for photos of the back side of the bridge. You can drive even further up the road for some wonderful views of the bridge and ocean. Enjoy!

My wife and I raced over this bridge on our way to Big Sur from Carmel and then made a point to stop for photos on the way back to Carmel. Iconic!

just get to the Bixby Bridge, cannot count the number of times we have been there.......if is not on our bucket list it should be

There are several of these 1930’s cement spans across the ravines of Big Sur however this is the longest span and is easy to photograph. There are vantage points both noth and south , however northern side gives the best photos.

An amazing drive. I was a passenger so very fortunate to be able to take all the views in. Bixby bridge is an well worth the stop, if only for 5 minutes.

The make-shift parking lot is pretty sketchy. I would recommend parking along the road on north side of the bridge. There were a lot of people there so we had to be patient to get some decent pictures. Bridge is beautiful and pictures are well worth it.

So I have heard about this bridge from one of my favorite bands for forever and I finally got to see it! This was breathtaking. The views were the die for and I just couldn't believe how large this thing was.
Definitely a must see!

Classic PCH View as you drive Highway 1. Be ready to pull over and park. We have only driven the road from north to south.

Everyone stops here for pictures so I did too. Honestly, I don't know the history of the bridge nor do I understand the engineering of bridges. That said, this spot is gorgeous and worth the stop for pictures. Be careful as the wind kicks up here. The view is just stunning. I could easily break out my camping chair, grab a cup of coffee, and sit there just admiring the view. In the kelp forest, my eagle eyed kids spotted some sea otters laying around too. Just beautiful.
A tip - go in the morning if you can. We stopped at the bridge around 9 am or so and there were only two other cars pulled over. When we drove past it again at 2 pm, the pull over area was packed with cars.

Yes supposedly iconic I know, but still just a bridge, and maybe the landscape would actually look a whole lot better without the road or bridge. Fog let us down on the day so review is influenced by that. We didn't see a sign to it and missed it initially.

Drove over Bixby Bridge en route south to LA. This piece of architecture is amazing. Travelling on route 1 you will come across this bridge, it’s worth a stop parking available either side. It’s a must if you’re in the area at sundown the view and colours reflecting on the bridge are beautiful.

Great views of the ocean and bridge. Good lookout points and parking options, but it does get busy quickly. We had both sun and fog during our <1 hr there.

Drove from Sausalito because this was on 'my list'....first stopping at Carmel for lunch. Today was gorgeous; a few tourists but not overly busy...

Lots of tourists like to stopover for photos and we spent about 10mins here before moving on. Definitely worth a visit for some quick photo taking.

Amazing to learn about the history of construction of the bridge. It is so perfectly located and just looks to beautiful from which ever angle you look at it from. first time made be believe that even barren concrete construction can be beautiful.
Virat Bakhshi

Big Sur is nothing short of spectacular. Bixby Bay does not disappoint! It can be photographed from many different vantage points so be on the lookout as you drive closer to the bridge. Also, while driving Big Sur, you will lose internet service so bring maps or info for your stops.

Worth the drive out the views along the way are amazing. Can get very busy obviously a popular tourist spot.

Visited on 9/21/2018 (Friday): Arrived in the early afternoon from our drive all along Big Sur and the overlook parking lots were packed! Going Northbound there's a dirt road on the right hand side that allows for plenty of parking. The bridge itself is marvelous as it's a true engineering achievement, and of course the view is awesome.

What an incredibley beautiful place to visit! We drove through highway 1 and fell in love with mother nature. It is a place of powerful scenery. This vacation brought my family closer together and it's a definitely worth a visit.

Loved stopping here to take pics!! Amazing views! Beautiful bridge. Love that it is opening in Big Little Lies. Very crowded. So may have to park further! Great drive from San Francisco down coast!

Best bridge view while travelling down PCH 1 in Cali. Lots of traffic leading up to it; but worth using a pullout and stopping for a bit to take some photos of the bridge and the surrounding coastlines.

The Bixbt Bridge is one of those iconic american places you have to see in person at least once. The Pacific Coast Highway has good scenery everywhere but this might be the best spot.

This was one landmark that I had missed in the numerous business trips made to San Francisco and LA. It was too far from either location during these business trips and yet the pictures of the Big Sur often flashed by from time to time.
We saw a crowded Bixby Bridge area and passed it and had to turn back around. Luckily we found a spot - took the necessary pictures. We were not there at Sunset when I believe the bridge is best photgraphed.
The parking area does not afford the best views - it is an engineering marvel and if I get a chance to see it again will spend more time viewing it minutely.

Just hop off highway 1 and the pullout and view this iconic bridge. It’s super neat and best seen in a clear day. Lots of people stopping but it should be easy to find a park spot.

We drove north on the 1 all the way from LA and stopped along the way. It is quite curvy and the Bixby Bridge is closest to Monterey. So if you really want to see the bridge I would come south on the 1 from Monterey.
The south does have the best shot but we couldn’t pull over due to traffic.
It was worse on the North side of the bridge

Visiting Bixby Creek Bridge feels like stepping into a postcard that's somehow come to life. You've seen it a hundred times in photos and car commercials-but standing there with the Pacific wind cutting through the cliffs and the ocean stretching endlessly below, it hits completely differently.
The bridge itself is breathtaking: a graceful concrete arch curving 260 feet above the canyon, surrounded by rugged green cliffs and the shimmering coastline of Highway 1.
The engineering is impressive, sure, but it's the setting that makes it unforgettable. On a clear day, the colors are unreal—deep blues, pale turquoise waters, and sunlit rock faces that glow gold toward sunset.

This Big Sur stop, is not only about the bridge. The complete scene is absolutely fantastic, specially with good weather conditions... enjoy it.

Its just as spectacular in real life as it is in the movies. An impressive structure with a number of different viewing points. Watch your step though, its a long way down!

There was construction going on when we crossed this bridge so one lane was closed, with traffic backed up in both directions. We couldn’t stop and take pictures of it, so we just drove slowly across the bridge in the fog while humming the theme song to “Big Little Lies”.
Consider stopping at Rocky Creek Bridge instead, just north of Bixby.

Saw this bridge on the computer at home & wondered where it was cause it looked fabulous, finally found out where it was and that it was on our route down through California so we had to stop & get some pics.
The bridge looks far better in real life, a great place for a photo shoot & a break from driving.

We always make a point to stop and marvel at this bridge! There is a nice pull over to get out and take some nice photos of the bridge and coast line.

Great views on either side of the bridge. Bracing air. Good stop going south on Highway 1. Easy parking.

This is a sight to see. It will only take a few minutes to stop and have a look. As an engineer - I think it's a bit of an engineering wonder. And given we were in California (a bit worried about earthquakes), it was something to drive over! In any case, this is an engineering masterpiece and looks really cool

I lived in Atascadero for over 30 yrs so not that far away, but always a beautiful drive. Worth seeing. I put a picture of the=is bridge in my casita in Laguna Vista TX. to feel more at home.

Visited several time but I’m still impress with the scenery, and the people that built the bridge. It’s an amazing construction along the highway 1 coastline.

First off, Big Sur is magical! ✨ No pictures can give the coast or landmarks any justice. A bridge is just a bridge usually, but this one is featured on Big Little Lies!! Loved the drive. It’s beauty and the peace that surrounds it. 🙌🏼

The Bixby Bridge is one of the most iconic sights on Highway 1. It is an engineering marvel from the early Twentieth Century. It is set in a beautiful setting along the Pacific coast with dramatic views of the Santa Lucia Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. My family and I visited on our drive down Highway 1. Parking can be hard to find nearby because it is a popular stop. Also you need to be careful because people get out of their cars to take pictures and they cross the road near the bridge.
It was foggy the day we visited, but that added a little mystery to the area around the bridge. I recommend a visit to Bixby Creek Bridge if you are driving down Highway 1.

I have severe anxiety of bridges, especially over water, especially at this height. And night driving. And road construction.
Bixby bridge was an actual culmination of all of the above.
Next trip, the husband can drive.
Lol, no pics taken here to memorialize the anxiety attack.

The bridges on the road are all unique, but this one you can actually get a viewpoint of it. In the right light, it pops so incredibly. Only downside is that everyone else also stops here.

This bridge is amazing. I see why the picture of this location is used to promote Big Sur Drive. There is pull over parking on north side but it is busy-go early or you will miss a spot spot to photo bridge. Really is amazing.

Parking situation: The west side is often packed, but there is a dirt road on the east side where signs guide you to parallel park. It’s legal to park there! The views are fantastic from both sides, and it’s an easy walk to either side across the two lane road (Highway 1). Some would argue the views from the east side are better!
This is an iconic bridge that was amazing in person. Worth a stop! The beach and waves below it make for a beautiful background too.
We went when it was foggy and sunny; both times were beautiful! You could see the bridge well. Highly recommend!

We came down from the north so it is a perfect view. There is a pull over right before the curve to the bridge. It’s a great place for pictures.

On a clear day find a safe place to stop. This bridge is beautiful beyond description. Go very early before the crowds arrive.

It may be a bit busy with other folks vying to get the perfect photo, but it's worth it. The view is really stunning!

Short drive up from Carmel. Earlier you go the better as it will get crowded. The drive up is beautiful too. Stop along the way when you see paths for hikes. Trust me their short and breathtaking. Just do it.

A view taken out of a movie/series/game. Lot's of people, and everybody wants to take a picture of the bridge. Show some good "tourismeship" by getting out of the way when you are finished and let others take pictures as well. Please feel free to offer to take pictures for others, which is often highly appreciated.

Great looking bridge with beautiful views from the viewpoint. We decided to pull over and stopped to enjoy the views. There’s limited parking space at the viewpoint but worth it! Do exercise caution when pulling out of the parking.

We were so excited about seeing this bridge. However the weather closed in, it got really foggy and it was down to one lane with construction work. There were other spectacular bridges further south on the big sur though

Also known as Bixby Canyon Bridge, on the Big Sur coast of California, it is one of the most photographed bridges in California due to it’s design, graceful architecture and magnificent setting. The bridge is about 120 miles south of San Francisco and 13 miles south of Carmel in Monterey County along State Route 1. Awesome natural scenes all around this bridge. Certainly worth a photo stop when driving on the Pacific coastal highway.

Great day with your loved ones. Epic views of the Pacific coast and driving across the bridge. Must do if you love the outdoors.

A drive along the California coast on Highway 1 has infinite locations for that once-in-a-lifetime photograph. Bixby Creek bridge, an engineering marvel, ranks highly on that list of scenic locations.
The bridge, the hills and the Pacific ocean come together in a breathtaking view. Be warned that this spot gets extremely crowded with tourists and it is not easy to get a spot to park your car.

I’ve lived only an hour’s drive from Big Sur for almost forty years. For thee decades, it was so uncrowded, I felt it was my own. It was a spiritual place where I came to recharge. No longer. No matter the day of the week or the time of day, there are hoards (this is not exaggeration- in fact it’s not an adequate word) of travelers from every country in the world, of late and in the greatest volume, China.
Take a look into the Mercury News article attached. These visitors are tearing the place apart; leaving garbage, causing wrecks, endangering themselves and others as they take photos and drone shots and parking g illegally and dangerously.
Big Sur is no more. For those who felt as I felt about its spirit-lifting solitude, find another place until our State starts to put controls on access and the numbers of people allowed.
So sad.

One of the stops on our Hwy 1 trip south. There were a lot of people there but I was still able to take some beautiful pictures on a sunny March day.

Driving down Hwy 1 is a favorite of ours. Never-ending beautiful coastal views that will make you want to pull over and take 100 photographs. Well Bixby Bridge is one spot that you should pull over and stop at.
There is parking on both sides of the highway, and even a dirt road on the mainland side of the highway that you can drive up a bit and get an incredible view of the bridge from in-land.
Beware though, parking is limited, and during the warmer peak months of the year, it can get PACKED with onlookers. So we’d recommend going early morning or late evening during the sunrise/sunset hours.

Bixby Creek Bridge is a must-see as it stands so beautifully along the stunning coast. Of course, if you're driving Big Sur you'll see it anyway, but take a few moments to stop and appreciate how it blends in to its surroundings. Glorious.

What a grand ole bridge. Come here during spring for wildflowers along the hillside in front of and behind the bridge.

I'd wanted to stop and take a few photos but the areas on both side of the bridge were congested with others wanting to do the same. We drove on, we didn't get to stop and I didn't get my photo. Oh well.

as much of an icon that this bridge is, there is absolutely NO where to park. If you do manage to squeeze in on the west side of the highway, you are taking your life in your hands. Tourists backing out onto the highway are a big danger. If you park on the east side, you run the very real risk of a $1000 fine! Better to see this bridge is to either drive over it and enjoy the experience...OR pull over about 2 miles north and look back at the view. Much better.

Definitely a busy spot for photo opps and not a lot of places to park. Definitely worth stopping if you can.

This was a nice place to stop and get photos. The bridge is beautiful to look at and with the amazing views of Big Sur behind it even more so. I saw people taking wedding photos here also. A word of caution though it gets very busy and you can take pictures on both sides of the road. Crossing the road can be a bit dangerous as some cars don't want to stop for pedestrians or some people jump out in front of the cars. Be careful!

Located 13.5 miles (21.7k) south of Carmel, the Bixby Bridge was originally built in the 1930’s as part of a huge project to complete CA-1 through the Big Sur area. Since then, it has become one of the most photographed bridges in the US and used in numerous car commercials so chances are you will recognize this iconic symbol of the PCH and Big Sur Coast. The bridge is viewed from a pullout on the north side of the bridge where one can get a good view of the picturesque concrete span, high above the Bixby Creek, and at the edge of the rugged coast.

This is just one sight along highway one in California. This sight is further up north along the highway. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous the entire route.

This was the perfect spot to stop and stretch our legs. It was easy to find with all the cars turning in and out. The bridge was like nothing we had seen before. A beautifully designed bridge in a picture perfect spot in the mountain with an ocean view. It's a wonderful place to take some photos and lots of people to snap a picture of your group.

A must visit! Such an iconic site. The edge of the United States of America. It’s really beautiful to see the rocks’ edge and the ocean’s waves crashing against it. There’s a dirt road to the left of the bridge to be able to see the bridge from a different angle. Worth the very short drive from the bridge itself.

Lots of room on the side of the road to pull over and take a look at this bridge along the PCH. Quite the marvel, especially for the time I am sure.

Add this to you list! A must do drive from end to end through Big Sur. Spectacular views. What else is there to say?

My son and I stopped by to take a picture in front of the Bixby bridge. The views from there and the ocean are amazing! Be sure to stop by while you're driving through Big Sur.

Definite stop for a selfie or get another person to take a photograph for you. An unusual feature is that this bridge is curved not straight

Had to take advantage of this photo op while driving the PCH. There is a small lot on the north side of the bridge where we stopped and took photos. The lot was busy, so be prepared.

Landmark Bixby Bridge on California Highway 1 - Big Sur.
Stop at one of the many pullouts and take pictures.

We returned to drive to Big Sur from Carmel. As part of this drive, we again enjoyed our drive across historic Bixby Bridge. There are stunning views to see.

Enjoy nice view of coastal road with giant and remarkable bridge. Worth to visit and stop here for taking the nice shot 📷

Just plain beauty! Looks 👁so sturdy & strong 💪🏼. Looks intimidating. Beautiful architecture. Must stop 🛑 by & enjoy this magnificent architectural.

Beautiful scenery. Parking is limited. The view is worth stop! The fog can be tricky. We were able to stop on a clear day at 12:00 and take some great pictures.

When driving through Big Sur, I always look for the parking to view this bridge. When you see this bridge in photos, you instantly know it is Big Sur. The history on the bridge is quite interesting. This is a MUST stop for one and all.

I love the bridge. I named my Labrador dog Bixby 12 years ago after contemplating the CCC masterpiece and benchmark to coast Hwy 1.

Bixby Bridge was on my bucket list and it did not disappoint. We drove down Highway 1 from the Northside and stopped along Bixby, Pfeiffer Beach and McWay Falls. The views from Highway 1 was exhilarating.

Nice stop along Highway One. We drove from Monterey to San Luis Obispo and stopped at many of the pullouts. This stop had so many cars they were double and triple parked. Local law enforcement was there to control the crowds. Usually quite windy and hopefully it’s not foggy when you are here. A great stop for done photos,

What an experience driving the Big Sur and the PCH. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to do it. The bridge was incredible and we were lucky enough to see a base jumper go off. Drive the PCH and do not be in a hurry. Stop at the beautiful spots and take it all in.

The big sur drive is beautiful. We stopped at the bridge to take photos. The stop places are well signed and very busy so allow time to drive in and out.

We saw it on the way down in the hour before sunset, which is the perfect light. We saw it on the way back on a grey morning (typical in summer with the fog) which was much less favourable for good photos.
Check out if you can see wildlife in the sea below, whilst you look at the views.

There is road construction on this span, and it was one lane parking for a several mile stretch with no stopping, so we didn't get the best view.

Everyone has seen pictures of this bridge that was one of the first built on Highway 1 south of Carmel. If you want to see it, plan on really tough parking and traffic jams rivaling 'bear jams' in the National Parks. You can only get the best view from the north side.

I've always seen pictures of this bridge and always wanted to visit. It is a must stop while travelling the PCH. The sights are amazing yet parking is kind of limited. Try to take your pictures on the north side of the bridge.

Lovely bridge. The name is a shame. The indigenous people should be honored by changing the name to Esselen rather than after some privileged rich white guy.

Stopped here when driving south from Carmel down Highway 1 to the Big Sur coastline. The overlook stopping point is a great place to take a photo with the bridge in the background and mountains/ocean as backdrop. Definitely recommend making the stop for a least a few minutes to snap pictures, though be warned the parking areas can be crowded as this is a popular spot for everyone making this famous scenic drive. Great views while driving on the bridge itself too.

Most people stop at the first turn off to take pictures of the bridge, but I would recommend the second turn off after the bridge. There you are able to get a better picture with more coastline behind it.

Visited this location along highway 1 on a recent trip to Monterey. It’s free to visit, cool to take pics at and can almost be squeezed into any trip when going somewhere nearby. This is one of the bridges along hwy 1 built in 1932.

Don’t forget to take pictures from both sides of the bridge. Trip advisor has the location pinned at a different location so we weren’t initially sure we were at the right bridge lol.

Don’t plan to stay- pull in take your pic and move on. Be careful folks don’t pay attention to cars. You must watch out for people- they won’t watch out for you.
Nice bridge and view
Iconic bridge on Highway 1 /Big Sur. Well worth a visit, good views of the coastline. We were lucky to avoid crowds but can be busy at the lookout points.
