We visit the winery on Friday January, 27, 2017. We don't need to make reservations, just walk right into tasting area and not too crowded. The settings is nice and inviting. I tried all red 4 flights, but substitute Zinfandel with Cabinet.
The quality of wine is very good especially Cabinet. All in all, I will return to this winery again.

My husband and I did a private tasting at Black Stallion and had a wonderful experience. The wine was delicious and our wine educator had a wealth of knowledge that they shared with us. Highly recommend this location!

We really enjoyed our tasting event here yesterday. The tasting area was very comfortable as well as the outside seating areas. The selection of wines was above average and we had a good time overall. I would recommend this winery.

My wife and I were visiting Napa for our anniversary, we ran out of time to visit all the wineries on our list. Stopped here to take some pictures and bought a bottle of wine. A little more than we usually spend on a bottle, but it is Napa.

We pulled into the Black Stallion Winey simply because it looked very nice from the roadside as we were driving along Silverado Trail. Once on the grounds, we quickly appreciated the tidiness, care and classiness of the Black Stallion patio and walk areas. This would have made a nice place to sit and take your wine-tasting.

We opted to go indoors and enjoy some tasting at the centre indoor station at this winery. The inside was nicely decorated, including a nice fireplace for winter visits and lots of room for small to medium sized parties as well as couples. The layout of the facilities was very good.

As for the tasting, we opted for the moderately priced Just Red Tasting (US$15) flight. This included four samples; our favorites being the 2009 BSEW Cab and the 2007 BSEW Cab. We also tried the Bucephalus Tasting (US$20) that included 3 reserved wines of which our favorite was actually the younger 2007 Bucephalus Red Blend. We purchased two bottles from this estate; one 2009 BSEW Cab and one 2007 Bucephalus Red Blend.

Overall, we were very happy with our visit to the Black Stallion. The wines were generally very good here. It would have been easy to have become a regular consumer of at least their red varieties if we could find them back home in Hong Kong. Also, the outside grounds were very nice, relaxing and just seem perfectly designed and suitable for a good wine tasting experience.

Based on our good experience at the Black Station, would we recommend a stop here if you intend to visit wineries on the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley

This was our favorite winery 05 on our recent visit to the valley. We felt the winds were better facility equally superior than the other wineries we visited. Also the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend

This was by far our favorite place from San Francisco to Sonoma Valley! They were very informative and made our learning experience fun! They have vines right next to the tasting room that they encouraged us to eat from to see the differences in the grapes/wines. The tasting room was spacious, luxurious and comfortable. The laid back atmosphere and all the great information that was shared made this one of our favorite stops in Napa!

This winery was recommend by a couple we meet eating breakfast at the Oxbow market ( which I also recommend). We were greeted right away. Asked what we preferred in wines. There were lots of staff on board. The Manager was readily available to answer any questions. We joined their club. They gave us gifts ( We missed the party for members the day before). Beautiful property!

When tasting in Napa we always start here. Great for tasting. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and beautiful facility. Normally go for the all red tasting.

I'm 22 and went in with my boyfriend and was nervous because the place looked so fancy that they wouldn't take us very seriously, but I was wrong. We had a staff member talk to us about wines and let us taste some and walk around the premise looking at the grapes and learning more. Very friendly and would recommend stopping by. There is so many wineries it's hard to choose!

Beautiful winery with relaxing tastings area. Chairs and tables encouraged lounging and we did. Although we had made reservations for a tasting what we received was far less than the service we had received at other Napa wineries. We order 2 flights of wine that we intended to try and share. The flights were brought to us without comment. We were told start here. Ok. We did start on both flights. We soon stopped her to ensure what she told us was right. She then retook our wine and labeled the wines1,2, etc. fine, we were now on our path. The wines were very good. However, we didn’t know anything about them as nothing was explained. Just think with reservations there should have been time slotted to us.
The best part of the experience was being able to walk out and taste the different grapes. This was a fun and unique experience! We were amazed at the difference and the sweetness of the various grapes. This experience alone is worth a visit.
The winery was easy to get to, absolutely gorgeous, plenty of parking, relaxed comfortable furnishings, restrooms were clean. I would recommend.

We were recommended to stop here from a person at another winery. We found their wines average and the people were okay. The one good thing was the display of different grapes and information about them.

Whenever we go to CA to enjoy the wine country we always go to Black Stallion. Great wines, great gardens and best place to hangout in the patio

By Ashton P |

I learned the most about the wine making process here on our private tour, and I highly recommend it. The wines are great! Out back, they have a chunk of labeled tasting vines so you can pick the grapes off to eat! I plan on going back to this place once they have their reserve wine ready!

My best friend and I were looking for a pretty winery to end our weekend trip with and came across Black Stallion Winery’s stunning location. When we arrived a little before 4 on a Sunday and were able to find a good spot at the indoor bar, but were fascinated by the outdoor bar that we decided to walk out there instead. As soon as we arrived at the outdoor bar we noticed we were kinda being overlooked and realized that it was because we needed to purchase our tasting inside first. So back inside we went to purchase our tastings, but by the time we got back outside, however, the bar was closing and we couldn’t get our tastings there. Kinda disappointing but the indoor bar server had warned us of that. Their tasting options are great, a mixed wine option, a Cabernet lovers option, Red only, and so on. The atmosphere was nice, the wine was super tasty, the staff was welcoming and engaging, just wish they kept the outdoor bar open longer! It’s so purdy and comfy out there!

Visited Black Stallion for a tasting for about an hour. The entrance to the winery is very dramatic and there are nice views of the vines behind the parking lot. The facility is large and inviting. They offered several different tasting flights from $10-15, which were amongst the most affordable we saw all day. Unfortunately, we thought the wine was very average tasting. I guess you get what you pay for! Staff was very friendly and informative.

The lady at the front desk of our hotel recommended this winery. We did a tasting of some of their white wine and they were very good. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. They had some of the different wine grapes growing right outside by the patio and invited us to pick some and taste them. Very interesting to compare the grapes to their respective wines. This place is definitely worth a visit!

I decided to make this winery one of our stops as no reservations were necessary. Had a flight of four red wines, and every selection was excellent. I do not claim to be a wine expert though; I just know what I like. The gentleman that served us was great... very knowledgeable. Beautiful grounds are great for taking a couple pics. What was really nice about this winery is that it was not crowded. We were able to enjoy the tasting without a mob of people walking around like you might experience at some of the more widely-known wineries. Can't wait to go back for another flight.

By coyer |

This is another winery in a beautiful setting. Large seating areas outside and rustic interior seatings open to spectacular mountain and vineyard views. Flights were a reasonable $15, and you can choose all red, all white, mixed, or reserve (which is more expensive). As a primarily white wine drinker, I liked being given the opportunity to taste different whites. The tasting guide was slightly informative but not exceptionally welcoming (perhaps because it was too close to the 5:00 closing time). Although I can't say this was a bad experience, it is not worth a future repeat visit.

My group really enjoyed our time at Black Stallion Winery. We sat outdoors on the large covered patio. We did our tastings at our own pace by simply walking up to the bar when we were ready for the next taste. There was an interesting garden with description of the various vines. It was fun to compare leaves and read the histories. The wines were very good. Black Stallion was a fun place to hang out with friends and drink nice wines.

By janeinlaguna |

First, many thanks to Jennifer, who greeted our party of four, found us space at the bar, and paid close attention to what we liked, bringing out a variety of wines to try. She was very knowledgeable, considerate of a 79-year old in our party of four with the recent knee replacement, and ensured the experience was what you always hope for. That is, a chance to really experience the wines, enough information to understand the character of the wines, and a complete absence of pretension. The tasting room was crowded, but we did not feel pressed or hurried in any way. Other staff pouring also seemed to be well trained, as far as we could observe.

The tasting room itself is nicely laid out, with several tables and cushy chairs as well as the tasting bar, and there is a large outside patio.

The wines (notably the reds) were well balanced and carefully crafted.

We traveled Napa and Sonoma for inspiring winery tasting room ambiance - not wine excellence, so my winery reviews are going to reflect the setting and the experience, not the wine. Though wines though out Napa are pretty awesome - tough to find truly bad wine here. Black Stallion was one of our favorite spots from a tasting room setting. The back patio with its several private break-out spaces and curved overhead shade trellis was spectacular. They have a great set-up for large and small groups. We sat outside and went inside to fill our tastings. Loved it.

Since we enjoy Black Stallion wines at home, we wanted to be sure to visit this winery while vacationing in Napa. Kevin was awesome at scheduling our reservation a few weeks before our trip and they gave us a 2-for-1 tasting using the Priority Pass (which we purchased separately).
Upon arrival, Scott took care of our tasting and he was VERY helpful and accommodating. He offered to take pics for us and explained not only their wines, but the history of this location, the company, etc.
Their tasting room is one of the mot beautiful we’ve seen in Napa and it’s grand! Amazingly clean and it smelled like oak – nice! Restrooms were perfect and clean as well.
Wines tasted very nicely. We’ve been to hundreds of wineries, but this was the first we’ve seen where they have a small block with each row trellised of a single varietal, complete with a sign at the end of the row telling you about the grape and with pics of the cluster and leaf. INCREDIBLE!!!
The offer a decent/fair shipping cost for their wines as well, if you want to buy some and have it shipped home. And if you buy enough, tasting is free!
Highly recommend this place!

The location is great and the building itself is fairly new. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable.

By wbabb2 |

The staff were so very helpful and the wine testing went so fast and easy. One of the staff was from my hometown in Newfoundland and so friendly and kind. I will certainly return when in the Napa area.

After visiting Black Stallion Winery in Napa this year we were excited to join their wine club. Wonderful wines offered by knowledgeable and friendly hosts. When you plan your next visit to wine country, be sure to put this one on your list. Chris was very informative and took great care of us.

By scm59 |

This is one of the most beautiful wineries I think we visited! The wine was excellent also. You could get a tasting and go outside and sit and enjoy the beautiful weather. They had many grape vines available to go and taste the different varietals of grapes, that was really interesting and yumme. We even drank a few bottles and had to go back for more.

By Simon M |

We were recommended the Black Stallion Winery by the Tourist Information in Napa. It is about a 20 minute drive from Napa on the Silverardo trail. Very impressive building with really knowledgable staff who took lots of time to explain the different wines to us. We also found a 2 for 1 offer online which made the experience very reasonable. Lovely gardens too if you care to take a walk around.

By 7TroopCutCopyPaste |

We visited here on an info centre recommendation and had a great trip. The atmosphere is very serene and chilled out. The wine waitress was brilliant, very friendly, knowledgeable and professional and gave us a great tasting experience. The wines are very nice as well.

The grounds are excellent for relaxing and we had a great trip to this winery overall - highly recommended!

We returned to Black Stallion Winery for a tasting, which was very nice. I also liked seeing their well labeled vineyard with the different varieties of grapes. Since it was summer, it was nice to see the foliage and grapes on the plants. It allowed one to see what the difference is between the different plants such as zinfandel, petite sirah, and so forth. Staff is pleasant. I also liked the truck.

By Happyowl97 |

Sorry I just didn't love this place. The wine was ok but more of the atmosphere. We went on a weekend and it was very busy. A lot of large wedding groups. It felt impersonal and generic. Just not for me.

By Thom S |

Very beautiful estate both inside and out. Didn't find the servers very attentive unless you are a good looking young lady. People coming in were rude and pushy at the bar. I won't go into detail.

By Doug S |

My wife and I stopped by Black Stallion on Sunday, July 9th in the early afternoon. The grounds of the property are very pretty. We walked inside and the bar area was hopping! There were many patrons standing around enjoying wine tasting.

I believe the young lady who greeted us informed us that Jamie (gentleman) would be the person conducting our wine tasting for us. My wife and I each took a tasting, she went with the All Red Tasting and I went with the All White Tasting, and we shared.

I was neither impressed with any of the wines, nor Jamie's service. He would pour us a sample, then walk away. We received very little information about the wines while the groups on either side of us were given descriptions of their samples.

I personally would not rush back to Black Stallion any time soon.

We did a two-day stay in Napa, and by far Black Stallion was stunning and our favorite. The service was the best service we received out of all of the wineries we attended, the views were breathtaking and the ambiance overall was perfect. Of course, to top all of that, the wine was my favorite (I tend to have a dryer pallet and really appreciated their Pinot Noir and Cabernet). Wonderful experience and will be sure to visit again whenever I get to come back to the valley. This is a MUST for anyone trying to figure out which wineries to visit. Thank you!

By jayray26 |

We were turned off immediately by the unkept look of our tour guide at Black Stallion. He was very difficult to carry on a conversation with. The grounds are nice as well as the buildings. The tour did allow us to see the grapes and vines and more of the production aspect then we saw during any other tour, but the wines and his professionalism left a bad taste in our mouths.

My group of eighteen went to Black Stallion as our first of eleven wineries last week .... and it we all loved it! We enjoyed all of the wines that we tasted in the lovely private room that we had reserved; the gift shop was very nice and several of us loved their "western" theme. The facility is beautiful and the staff friendly and attentive. Our group would highly recommend a stop here while visiting this area!

Bring your camera and your wallet -- you're gonna want both when you visit Black Stallion! My husband and I visited on a quiet weekday morning and were the only guests at the time, so we had the full attention of the host. The tasting was ample and was comped, with our purchases. We particularly enjoyed the sauvignon blanc and the cute collection of gifts for sale. Cheers!

We'd been cycling around the valley for several hours and stopped at half a dozen wineries. Almost all of them were snobby and not interested in a father and daughter seeking a couple of glasses of wine or a simple tasting - and maybe a charcuterie plate. We were about to give up hope and turn back into town when we saw Black Stallion and it was a godsend. What wonderful people. I can't say enough nice things about them; they took what would've been a disappointing memory of Napa and turned it something special. Our host was pleasant and knowledgeable. The wine samples were varied and superb, which she explained patiently and well. The sliced meat and cheese were perfect and the price was less than what we would've paid for two people to taste alone at the other wineries. THANK YOU!

By Kevin S |

We stopped in here for a quick tasting, and there are few things to really like about Black Stallion. It is a very nice facility and property, no reservations needed (just walk up to the bar), and they have some really good wines. The person pouring our wine was friendly and knowledgeable, and we felt welcome, unrushed, and tasted some excellent wines. Nice little gift shop as well.

By Magnuz S |

Black Stallion have extremly good wines for the money. The staff is educated, helpful and extremly kind.

I took a tapas plate with the wine which were so delicious.

Don't miss Black Stallion when you are in Napa area.

By Julian S |

We stopped for a wine tasting. The wine and surrounds were great but the staff were fantastic. We were blessed with a lovely woman serving wine and chatting about life in America. Enhanced our trio from New Zealand.

By Natalie S |

Loved the wine and service - it was an amazing visit!!! Far better than big brands in Napa! The tasting menu gives loads of options so your not forced to try a certain set I did the red only option and it was fabulous!!

By Aida |

This was our least favorite winery during our trip! The host was inattentive, just poured out the wine and left. We asked for water and not until the end did they give us water. I do not recommend this tasting "experience."

By DianeXit98 |

Just down the "trail" from Stag's Leap, I took the upscale red sampling, named after some Russian prince's horse, and found that instead of getting better when opened, it got worse. Might just be my palate but I was disappointed.

I actually bought fewer wine items here...a horse pourer and a t shirt.

By SteakGuy75 |

Good quality Syrah. Wine pourer was very knowledgeable. Tasting room and outside grounds are all new and well kept.

By Tina W |

Jorge was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about the wines and the growing area of the grapes. Loved his enthusiasm for Black Stallion!

By Steve C |

Was looking for some “new wine “ knowledge...... and we found it. Being a green horn in wine tasting this place help you feel at home and answered all your questions

By Prayl |

We visited because we are equestrians and felt a kinship to the proprty. We were not disappointed! The property is gorgeous and our hostess Katie was fun, informative and flexible with our slightly loud group. The wine was very good and the atmosphere was casual elegance. I'd say this was definitely one of my favorite stops in Napa.

We visited the Black Stallion winery and had a great time tasting the wine and viewing the vineyards. The wine was tasty, and the people were wonderful. We very much enjoyed our visit!

By western12345 |

Our only experience is attending the Zinfandel dinner, where we had a terrific time. As you walk in for the dinner, there was a fabulous Chardonnay to sample and then the hors d'oeuvres started coming out. There was fun Italian music provided by an accordionist. After a bit we went out to the patio for our sit-down dinner. Each course was accompanied by a wine paired to it and all the food was served family-style except for the main course and dessert. The food was prepared by the chef from Fume Blanc and was spectacular. The wines were well paired and very enjoyable. Overall, an excellent evening which was great fun. Highly recommend.

Located in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District, the grounds of this winery were once the home of a major equestrian center that closed in the 1990’s. Now owned by the Indelicato family, Black Stallion is a small-batch winery best known for their exquisite big reds. Tastings are conducted in either the Tasting Room with its large bar and fireplace, or outside on the patio. Charmaine, our wine educator, imparted a wealth of knowledge over the course of our visit. Make sure you sample the Black Stallion limited-release wines that you won’t find back home: Bucephalus (red blend), Transcendent (cabernet), and a Gaspare Vineyard cabernet, to name a few. White wine lovers don’t despair! Black Stallion also has Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and even an Alberino. Unlike many wineries, walk-ins are accepted here. Make a reservation so you aren’t disappointed!

Interesting wines. The winery has a very modern feel to it they also sell individual pizzas to eat and savor your wine.

By Patricia P |

Beautiful winery and tasting room. Most of all our Tasting Room Attendant was so knowledgeable and informative. Jamieson Clark picked the perfect tastings for us and his presentation- awesome!
Visit will not disappoint.

By Tony Q |

We had a party of 11 for a std tasting. They sat us in a small private room off to the side. it just lacked atmosphere. Felt like I was in a board room about to make a power point. The host did not do a great job on telling us about the wines, history, really not much about the vineyard. The wines were just okay. Guess after having to been to 5 other places over the long weekend, I expected more.

By itsxjackie |

This winery has delicious Pinot noir and other reds. However, it was not super specular where we wanted to buy a wine home.

By Alex V |

Angelisa was such a personable Wine Hostess to our friends & family. Such a tasty variety of whites & reds - and the tasting room was very inviting. This is a must stop!

By Gena424 |

As a zinfandel fan, I was happy to discover that this winery had a zinfandel tasting-3 zins for $12. I thought 2 of the 3 were excellent. Outside there is an area where you can pick and eat the grapes from over a dozen different varieties. Friendly staff, beautifully maintained tasting room.

By Becsim75 |

We stopped here on a whim as the last winery on our Napa trip. We walked in and Angeliza greeted us with a friendly smile and was very knowledgeable about the wines we were tasting. She saw that we enjoyed the reds and even let us taste some that were not on the menu. We enjoyed them so much we joined their wine club, which was reasonable too! Thanks Angeliza for ending our trip with such a great tasting experience!!

By Yoichi_SF |

Wineries and winery visiting/tasting centers especially in Napa feel so commercial and touristy. So I was surprised that this place was not overcrowded even on a weekend day. Really cute tasting room and outdoor area as well.

By t c |

This was a last minute decision for us. We had just finished early at another tasting and when we called here, they said we didn't need a reservation.

Beautiful building and grounds. Of course we had to take selfies with the stallion out front.

We did the zin tasting and the premier tasting. Both were exceptional. We purchased bottles from each.

They also have a large selection of items in the gift shop. These were a bit pricey tho. Many items we saw at other wineries for less.

Overall, worth a stop.

Tip 1: winetasting fee is waived if purchasing 3 bottles.

Tip 2: be sure to walk on the patio side. They have several rows of grapes along with descriptions of each. Very informative. More wineries should do this.

By Ricardo W |

Very comfortable. The service was wonderful, as well the wine.
Nice tasting among the vines or in the sofas outside, service people very friendly and helpful.

By Bob T |

This winery gets very crowded on weekends, partly because they offer two for one tasting coupons online. Very nice scenery and outdoor patio, but the wines are just okay. They do have a very nice reaerve cabernet however.

By laj2009 |

Since we still had a bit of energy we opted for the Black Stallion winery. We all had the white flight which was very good and a reasonable price. We basically had the winery to ourselves. A very nice stop as our last winery of the day.

By Donny W |

We talked to several people and they said we need to visit this winery. They were correct! Tasting room was great and they had several games you could play while tasting. Our server was from Sweden but I don’t remember her name. She did an outstanding job in explaining their wines. Plan a stophere along the Silverado Trail.

By Jeroen |

We just randomly decided to drop in on a Monday afternoon as we were driving around Napa.

We were warmly greeted, and then given excellent service and information during our wine tasting. The guy was knowledgeable and very helpful, letting his try a broad variety of wines to really ascertain what we liked. We ended can up walking out facing purchased eager a lot of wine, and we're very happy that we stopped in.

The grounds are beautiful. Definitely worth a visit.

By SherriLR |

We went here a while back and they were having some type of pizza on the patio, which sounded wonderful. Pizza and wine? We're in! I don't know if they were just understaffed that day, but it took quite some time to actually get anyone to help us try some of their wine. Then, we thought the wine was just ok. Given other reviews here, it may be a winery we go back and try on a regular day sometime.

By John S |

Found this winery and just had to go see and taste with such a beautiful building and great black stallion out front ! Parking is out back and you enter from the rear into a large tasting room with tables , chairs, and couches inside and a wonderful terrace outside ! The staff were helpful but not pushy , the selection for tasting was broad and centers on there Cab . As there were three of us we opted for three different tastings and shared ! Great way to get to taste all the wines ! In the end we did purchase some cab to take home and let rest for a year or two !
All in all a great experience in Napa

By Melanie B |

We truly enjoyed the professionalism, insights and gracious hospitality of Angeliza L. We had arrangements ahead of time for an industry tasting but they were not expecting us when we arrived. Angeliza quickly accomidated our arrangements and graciously apologized. Unfortunately she had a colleague that involved us in their internal competition for sales but she quickly dealt with this uncomfortable situation and attended to our needs to the best of her ability. The wines are tasty and with Angeliza you are in great hands!

By traveller2332 |

Tasting room is too crowded and you often must fight for even a spot at the bar. The wine was not amazing, but it did highlight how good some of the other wineries that we visited.

By pentajs |

We like Black Stallion wines and were anticipating a great experience, especially with the first impression of the beautiful property. Inside the building is also very nice... However, our server was arrogant and disinterested in us! I said something to one of the other servers - this just isn't right when there are SO many other wineries available!

By SoftwareGeek12 |

My finance and I took a Platypus "Join In" tour of the Napa Valley on a Friday afternoon in May. Black Stallion was the last vineyard we visited on our tour. The tasting building and immediate grounds are spectacular, oozing old world charm. Inside is spacious and comfortable with a circular tasting bar. The staff was very friendly and helped us try to find wines we liked. Overall, I would definitely recommend a stop to Black Stallion for a great tasting experience.

By Krysblair |

This is one of my favorite places to visit when in Napa. Great outdoor and indoor seating. Right now it is only outdoor, due to Covid. The bathrooms and the entire area is always so clean. The service is great they don’t stick around for too long… Just long enough. The wine is always great here!

By MichiganMom71 |

This was the first stop on our limo wine tour and it was a great experience. I don't think appointments are needed- you can select the types of wines you want to taste by grouping (whites, reds, etc) and our pourer was kind and informative. He even suggested a dessert wine that was not part of our tasting selection (Encore) and we enjoyed it so much, we purchased 2 bottles of it. Nice gift selection here as well and they waive the tasting fee if you purchase any three bottles. Good deal.

By Sara |

We had a very nice experience at Black Stallion. The property is very pretty, the wines were really good, and the staff was great. Our server was William and we highly recommend him! He made our experience great. A must visit in the Napa region.

By Roma M |

The wines here were pretty good, specially their cabernet sauvignon. The receptionist greeted us very politely and gave us complimentary white wine. The bartender (I forgot to take her name) was pretty rude to our group. I'm not sure if I can term this as racism since I'm not sure what was wrong with her. We actually were going to buy a couple bottles from them but didn't because of the way she treated us.

When she gave us small bite size wine crackers and we asked her to give us some more, she very rudely said that it's just meant to clean up pallette between 2 glasses of wine. We were a group of 5 people, so we did run out of crackers after a couple wines.

Anyway, so when we got the last wine on the list, we decided to step out with our glasses and take pictures with the vineyards. She gave us a very bad look when we walked out, kind of assuming that we would drink wine and run away without paying them. We had a good time sitting outside but since we were hurt by the way she treated us, we decided to not buy any wine, had one person from our group go in and pay and we left.

The winery itself is pretty good, even from outside. Good photo opportunities.

By Elena |

The place is airy and relaxing. The kept the original equine foundation that it started as. Out of all the wineries, their white wine blend was my favorite!

By bhappy50 |

We did not do to many vineyards while in napa, so i can't really compare, but the indoor and outdoor tasting rooms were very attractive and the service was good, (but not great). I am glad we tried it.

I came here for a tasting Aug 2022. This review is for the host who was an older man, the younger man (wearing a hat and uniform) host seemed like a great host who was very hospitable. We ordered the mixed and red tastings with the charcuterie plate (which was over priced and also pre packaged meat + cheese you'd find in whole foods). The host was inattentive -- he dropped the drinks off and said he would be back to explain. We waited a long time, and he spent his time chatting with other tables. When I flagged him down, he said he was going to do it, then half heartedly explained the wines to us. Note - he explained *what* the wines were, but not how they related to the winery (e.g. he said what a chardonnay is, and was dismissive about my question on whether it was grown on the estate.) He came back to do the same with the second wine in the flight, but never came back for the last two until I flagged him down. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for a more hospitable tasting where you can learn about the wines and the winery itself and also wouldn't recommend the charcuterie board which was over priced. The wine itself was also sub-par -- all the cabernets didn't have much variance. I might recommend the other host, who seemed to make sure the other tables he served were well looked after, and walked them through the flight.

Take a super high end horse stall and turn it into a wine tasting facility....that"s what Black Stallion is. Wine is truly on point....but hold onto your wallet...your paying for it. Great outdoor covered area to sit and relax while you drink your wine.

By Lizzymcboo |

One of our friends who was traveling with us had parents as members here and we got a warm welcome and tried excellent wines, even though it was close to closing time. The wines were exquisite. Definitely make this a stop - even though it's pricier, it's worth the tastes (maybe go last so it doesnt spoil you!).

I recently had my rehearsal dinner at Black Stallion and it was incredible. We had it in the evening after the winnery closed and had the entire place to ourselves. They have a beautiful patio where we enjoyed apps and wine before heading into a barrell room for an inredible dinner that was prepared by Linda Thomas Catering. the barrell room setup was perfect with small lanterns lit, it was like a candlight dinner. Black stallion is great for events not only because it is huge, beautifully maintained and has great wine, but because they are one of the few that has a kitchen on site so all food is prepared fresh.
Stephanie helped us with the planning of our event and then Jamal executed it perfectly and was there the evening of the dinner to make sure everything went great.

We decided to do the Zinfandel tasting and WOW! Delicious! They even gave a bonus tasting so of course we brought home a bottle. Very friendly staff. Good vibes. Industry friendly ...

Thoroughly enjoyed our tastings today. Menu has *numerous* options from which to choose, all reasonably priced. We chose a red flight and a mixed flight. Our host also offered us a couple of extra tastes after recognizing our preferences.

Exceptional wines from a place we hadn’t heard of before, and the grounds, tasting room, are just beautiful. It was one of the few places open on Christmas Eve, so we felt especially lucky having chosen this as one of must-sees for this trip.

We left with a bottle of Encore Limited Edition Port, 2015 Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2016 Poseidon Vineyard Chardonnay Los Carneros Napa Valley (but I also loved the “unfiltered” Chardonnay).

We visited several wineries based off the beauty we could see from the road, only to park and be told IMG_1384appointments only. VX highly suggest that you do plan your Napa trip accordingly, however we enjoyed our random girls trip. Finally we were accepted for an appointment at the last winery on our journey. This establishment was named Black Stallion Winery. This winery was very chic, and posh. Could totally imagine a night outing here with everyone dressed in all black ! We chose seating outside, and by this time we had about 10 glasses of wine and were feeling like we were floating. This setup was slightly different, we grabbed a glass and went out to the patio, didn’t really get the full explanation of each wine, however with this being glass 11-14 I’m not sure we would have been the best students. However, one employee by the name of Kevin did a great job of answering my questions and being personable. It was again a great experience and I encourage you to stop by and have a sip :)

Enjoyed the experience, cordial and welcoming staff, beautiful place and great tasting - would recommend.

By Linda P |

My favorite wine tasting and winery. The tasting was personal with a one on one with the wine specialist. These were my favorite wines. The grounds are beautiful. If I could only make one stop, it would be Black Stallion.

By Shakina S |

The space was huge, staff were knowledgeable and professional, & the place is clean/beautiful! The staff member who facilitated my experience was a gem, Juliana! I brought some items because of her knowledge and ability to observe my taste buds.

Devon loves Equestrian theme and horses so this was our first stop. Beautiful! Service was great and we were impressed.

What a beautiful place to taste some wine. We had a terrific young man pour for us, very knowledgeable and he even spoke Chinese!

By esp44 |

Black Stallion is a beautiful venue -- inside and out. If we had started our visit on the Silverado Trail at this winery, we might have been more impressed with the wine. This is the one winery where we did not make a purchase. Cabs were just not that impressive. Our server seemed more interested in telling us about himself than the wine. Glad we had a two-for-one coupon or we would have been disappointed with the value.

By Danni G |

This was our second stop in Napa and we had a great time. We went on a very hot day (108 degrees) and were so thankful to know they have plenty of seats and tables inside. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area but I didn't see anybody using it due to the hot weather; the place didn't feel crowded due to their big indoor area. Their staff was very friendly and helpful.

Carla made our tasting at the Black Stallion Winery a wonderful event. She was warm, engaging and full of interesting insights and knowledge that enhanced the tastings. We thoroughly enjoyed the 2017 Barrel Reserve Cab, the 2016 Mt. Veeder Cab, and the 2017 limited release Napa Syrah. Thank God for the free shipping home! We will return.

My husband and I wanted to stop in at a winery in the area and this was the one we found. It was a really gorgeous place that felt classy but not pretentious. The offer different types of tasting, red only, white only or mixed. This was a great option fir us since we're not big fans of red wine. The one thing we didn't realize was that you're not allowed to purchase a glass on site buy a bottle and drink it (we've done this at wineries in new England before). Black Stallion has a gorgeous patio area and tasting vines you can walk through out back. Wonderful time in a beautiful setting

By mbisme |

In the Napa Valley, wine tasting can become a harried and crowed affair. However, we were delighted with our experience at Black Stallion. On a chilly winters day, tastings were offered at a spacious bar before a crackling fireplace. Our host Mike was most friendly, knowledgeable, and deftly managed a several parties at once without ignoring any of us. Both my husband and I enjoyed the red flight which did not include the Zin. When we asked after it, Mike offer us a taste. Our tastings were both comped when we made purchases. We look forward to returning in warmer weather when we can enjoy the spacious patio.

By Alissa M |

Loved our time at this winery. It felt upscale but yet very relaxing. We did two different tastings. The bartenders were nice and knowledgeable. We look forward to going back for more tastings and possibly if they have a tour.

By Pinklady234 |

Our tasting room associate Darryl was a delight. Darryl used a detailed map of Napa Valley at our tasting table to explain the climate, soils, and grape varietals used for Black Stallion wines . I love the equine history of the winery because I love horses but, anyone can these beautiful grounds . The charcuterie was perfectly paired with the mixed wines we chose. The atmosphere was amazing. My husband and I enjoyed sitting near the fireplace while sipping our wine. We are now wine club members. I have received many compliments on the jacket and cashmere scarf I purchased there. Wonderful memories.

This year's Syrah (2010) is the best yet. Loaded with fruit flavor and a smooth it is well worth the trip. Their Cabernet and Pinot Grigio are also excellent.

Lovely setting with a very knowledgeable guide who took us through a well-chosen flight of superb wines. The pace was just right - conducive to a relaxing afternoon.

I wanted to visit a winery that was event worthy and this place was. Very nice building with high ceilings and bar/tasting area. Outside there were several lounge areas to sit and relax.

Tried a great Merlot from the Red tasting selections. All staff were friendly and checked on us and didn't feel pressure to rush or buy wine.

By Tom M |

We stopped at the Black Stallion Winery on Silverado Trail in Napa, CA for a wine tasting. The grounds and the facility are beautiful, and Jeffrey, our host was great. He was very knowledgeable. My brother-in-law and I both ordered a red wine tasting. Jeffrey asked what kind of reds we liked and we both indicated dry, Italian style reds. Jeffrey suggested we start out with a Sauvignon Blanc and a Rose. They were both quite nice. He then suggested we skip the Pinot Noir and start with their Merlot. We then moved to a Syrah, a Zin and a we finished with two Cabs, the last being their Reserve Cab. The reserve was especially delicious. Jeffrey showed us how to set the glass on its side and roll it back and forth on the bar for better aeration. Really opened the wine up. All in all this was a great tasting experience. A+ recommendation.

By Michael O |

This winery wasn't on our list to visit, but my sister-in-law is a horse lover so the black stallion drew us in. We didn't need reservations, we just walked right into tasting area. There was a good crowd, but there was still room for us at the bar. The setting is nice and the ambiance was inviting. The staff was pretty friendly, one bartender had no personality, but the others were great and kept it fun. The quality of wine was very good and the tastings are affordable. All in all, we were pleased and would return again.

I should preface this review with the following:
1. I’ve been in the wine industry (hospitality management) for over 23 years. I therefore realize people and businesses have bad days but this experience is a reflection of issues deeper than such our experience on this one occasion.
2. Businesses or services I leave comments on are either exceptional or worthy of constructive criticism. I’m not going to mention names allowing Black Stallion management the opinion to contact me if they’re interested in any follow up.

I made a reservation for tasting for 4 through Black Stallions Tock reservation system, which I’ve used personally and professionally for years. I was surprised the system didn’t ask for a review which is standard so I’ll post my review on other platforms.
My wife and I arrived about 10 minutes early as we waited for another couple to join us. The greeter explained we were early (yes we know) so he would need to find a host. He then departed as my wife and I browsed the retail room. At this point a kind gesture of offering water or a splash of wine as we waited would have been appreciated and a good first impression.
When our guests arrived we went looking for the greeter, he took us to a table were we waited for our host. After about 5 min. she arrived and explained the tasting options. We waited for awhile for the glasses of wine to arrive at which point our server stated she got delayed by a phone call answering a guests questions. Isn’t that what the greeter/concierge is supposed to be doing?
She gave a brief description of the wines and as she was doing so I noticed a bug (nat) in my glass and mentioned it to her. Her comment to me was, “and you can’t remove it?” I replied, sure I can and proceeded to flick the bug off to the side. She stated it would have been a lot of wine to taste if she got another glass. Seriously? I could have pressed for another glass but at this point I wanted to see where the rest of our experience would go.
Toward the end of the experience our server approached our table and asked if we would like our bill (we never saw her until this point) I answered yes, she came back and placed the bill on the table stating she assumed we didn’t want to purchase wine. She never bothered to ask, so yes she made an assumption. On a positive note she didn’t charge for my bug glass (which I didn’t consume by the way).
My wife and I have been fans of Black Stallion for years, We’ve seen wine makers come and go and the acquisition of the winery back in 2010. When I saw the winery was lauded by Wine Enthusiast magazine (I question their criteria) I was excited to visit after being away from the valley for the last 4 years. To say I was disappointed in this experience would be a huge understatement.
There are many choices in the valley and I would not recommend visiting Black Stallion. The entire experience was substandard for the valley.

My friend wanted the wine tasting in Napa experience, and unfortunately I don't know much about wine, so I felt a bit lost trying to find a good winery. Thankfully, the visitor's center in downtown Napa gave us great suggestions (and a coupon for the tasting!) based on what my friend said she liked in wine (sweet and not so dry). They ultimately suggested Black Stallion winery, and what a fantastic experience! The tasting rooms I've been to with friends before were frenetic, but Black Stallion had a very mellow environment so that my friend could sit and enjoy each pour, between pours (rather than having to stand by the bar and rush through the pours). The staff at Black Stallion were very friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely bring my other wine lover friends here again. Thanks!

By Carlton |

Please go here! My initial impression was that it seemed formal and corporate but I was wrong. It's actually very cool. What makes it is the staff. They are lovely, friendly people. Clint in particular treated us like royalty. Lydia and Terri were so kind and caring too. The bad news is that the expensive wines are the most delicious so you'll want to dig deep in those pockets! However, you'll still enjoy the 20 dollar taster but you should definitely see if you can budget for something a little more. Thank you Black Stallion.

By MaryKate601 |

My husband and I found a 2 for 1 tasting coupon, and decided to do a tasting session at Black Stallion. Not only were the wines fantastic, but we enjoyed sitting outside on the patio and checking out the "educational grapes" that are planted right by the outdoor tasting bar. We moved inside for our last pour since it was almost 100 degrees outside, and we loved the ambience of the inside tasting room. Black Stallion also has a gift shop surrounding the indoor bar, and we had fun browsing the items for sale. I would definitely recommend checking this out!

By Brian F |

Knowledgeable and friendly staff, great wine. Traditional setup (at a bar), but that didn’t diminish the experience. Great Sauvignon!

By jackal51 |

Lindsey was a gracious host for our tasting stop. She knew her wines and helped us enjoy our visit. Be sure to check out the opportunity for the library wine. Enjoy!

By Bucketheads |

Perfect day with a great sampling of red wines. My husband picked a mixed sampler and he loved one of the blends the most. The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed the morning so much.

By Leana C |

We went here for a wine tasting and had a fabulous time. They had a wonderful outside sipping area. The staff was friendly. We did have one incident where an employee picked up my husbands phone thinking it was left behind, yet we were at the bar and had only been gone from the seating area for about two minutes. Weird. You can also get two for one tickets to this winery from the visitor center in the city of Napa.

By listen4kristen |

For not needing a reservation, I give this place 5 stars. Our family stupidly didn't make a reservation before going to Napa Valley, so we were scrambling the night before our trip looking for a good place. We came across The Black Stallion, which had an offer of buy 1 tasting, get 1 free if we checked in Facebook or Twitter. We ended up having a marvelous time! The wine pourer was sarcastically funny and had a lot of knowledge about the wine. Three members of our group did the Red Tasting, while one did the White Tasting, and we all enjoyed the 4 wines that we sampled. For $30 for our group, how can you complain? The grounds were also gorgeous. We had a great time!

By Kirsty C |

A friend took me here because she rode here before it was a winery. It was busy, but we got a space at the bar for a tasting within a few minutes. The man who served us was great. Very knowledgable and helpful. The tasting room is lovely, and the toilets are really nice, too. The outdoor seating looks fab. The art and photos on the wall are all fantastic, and adds to the ambience. I think I'll be back!

By Lychordia |

A popular winery, we stopped to admire the grounds and sample the vino. They were very busy, but we were still able to enjoy a 4 flight tasting. They run around $15 to $20 for each person. Each of us had a different set. I had the Red tasting. I enjoyed the flavor and bought a bottle of the 2012 Napa Valley Syrah ($40). The Pinot Noir was also very elegant and came at a close second. I was able to purchase a wine bag for my luggage ($2.50). It made it through the airport in my checked luggage just fine. For a tour and private tasting, you can make a reservation. We were a walk-in and still was able to enjoy the environment. The drive there was among many vineyards and beautiful scenery. We arrived a little later in the day, but we were able to get some advice on some other places to visit prior to closing. No real food was available, as it was for mostly tasting only. They do have souvenirs available for purchase along with the wines.

By Amy B |

This was our last wine tasting in Napa Valley. We'd had a lot of red, so went for the mixed tasting. We also had a 2for1 card from the Napa tourism office. Whilst the setting was stylish, and the educational vines interesting (it showed and talked you through different grape types), the wine itself really was nothing special. If you want AMAZING red wines, go to Franciscan.

By Charles L Niell |

Started out the day in Napa here at Black Stallion. Very friendly and attentive staff. I appreciated them very much. They knew their products very well. I really enjoyed the tasting and without getting into describing the wines the cabs were rich and robust. Wound up buying over 24 bottles. Went to much more established and regarded wineries but this place held it's own. Give it a try.

By mini |

With its nice court yard, we like to take our glass of wine and enjoy it outside in the patio area. Its very relaxing. Sometimes they have events where there is food and that is even better.

We stopped here on a repeat visit and the winery was as fun as ever. We like their Cabernet Sauvignon the most.

By Dianne L |

Being from Texas and only having time to stop at 2 wineries during our visit we chose this as one of the two. Tastings were priced right and the bar tender was super friendly and knowledgeable. He took time to teach us some things as well as the other guests about wine and the different grapes and how they graft the vines with french vines, etc. My boyfriend likes sweeter wines and he even veered off the tasting just for him and let him try some that he loved! When we go back it's a definite stop!

By ZaCarlyO |

We're from a very amazing part of wine country in Australia, so the idea of paying for a tasting just seems ludicrous! We went here because it was one of the cheapest and closest to where we'd eaten lunch. The place is beautiful, but the server we had was arrogant and rude. When you pay for a tasting you'd assume they'd at least explain something about the wine, but this guy seemed to be a bit hip and too cool for school. Another server saw what was happening and tried his best to make an effort for us, but we were on our last wine and left as soon as we'd finished. Very disappointing.

By richardgZ6541SE |

Nice food with wine! They have a nice selection of food for purchase which not all wineries do. Folks are very pleasant but its more laid back and casual,,,the tasting is not as elaborate or special as some other wineries eg Mondavi.

By 99texasfan |

Great wines with super nice tasting host. Black Stallion has great everyday cabs and fantastic reserves. Must visit winery while in Napa.

Black Stallion Winery is located on the beautiful Silverado Trail, of Napa Valley. We went in there with our any expectations and were pleasantly greeted by the impressive building and the tastefully done patios.
Outdoor wine tasting was a very good experience. The staff was warm and friendly.
We would definitely go there again and recommend it to our friends.

By NeedsAVacation26 |

Six of us visited Black Stallion Winery on a Saturday for a 60th birthday. We came based on the Tripadvisor reviews and affordable prices. Based on our experience, we would not recommend a visit to this winery. When we entered, we viewed a menu, chose and paid for our selected tastings, and were informed that we could sit in the tasting room area where there was room to accommodate our party. Unfortunately, there was no room at the bar.

The tasting room had good ambiance, as it was decorated with wine barrels, a table for the wine tastings, someone to pour the wine, and adequate seating. We showed the gentleman at the table our receipts, which informed him which tasting we had selected. When pouring the wine, we asked him to describe the wines, and he informed us it was his first day and directed us to read the menu we had chosen our tastings from. As visitors to Napa, we simply expect more. It was not this young gentleman's fault, but there was no one in the room with him, no one training him, and no one to answer our questions. We tasted the wines and they were fine, but nothing to write home about. We wish we could have had a better experience. The tastings were affordable (as cheap as $15 to $20), but at this winery, it seems you get what you pay for.

By poukala |

This place was a lot of fun for us and our group. William was quite entertaining with his puns. We all had the Seated Portfolio Tasting and learned a lot about the wines. It was nice to walk around outside afterwards.

By tigerpopsie |

The Black Stallion Winery is a little known gem in Napa. Sitting on one of the back roads it is not something you are driving by everyday, but take the time to go see this place. We absolutely love their Chardonnay.

By karansimoni |

This was a last minute decision to stop here. So glad we did! It is a beautiful winery built on the property of the old Silverado Horseman' Center. Vestiges of the old equestrian center remain. The gorgeous stallion statue greets you as you enter the property. They have a gift shop that has some amazing swag. For Valentine's Day they had a guitarist singing French songs on the terrace where they were serving oysters. I tried the all white tasting and really liked the 2013 Viognier and their dessert wine Napa Valley Encore, a port like wine that was really nice.

By pwncess |

While on business in the San Francisco area, a friend suggested I drive up to Black Stallion for a tasting. I was not disappointed. I purchased a “mixed tasting” of four wines (two whites, two reds) and as it progressed and while chatting with the person who helped me, she continued to pour other varietals she thought may interest me. I found some terrific new wines and purchased a few to ship back home. The grounds were also beautiful. I can’t wait to return.

By Gotees |

Having been here 10 years ago with my wife, I have a little bit of loyalty to this place. I remember it being exactly the same. The place was immaculate and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable . I did a flight of reds and the wine was excellent.

By Karl T |

This place was a pure delight to visit! The grounds were beautiful (luckily we had great weather that day) and the wines were fantastic, especially the King Louie red. Our server was so nice and helpful (I wish I would have written down her name). She did not rush us at all, but instead really seemed to enjoy her time with us. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they had wine crackers which you can have between wines to cleanse the palate. It was very odd that all the other wineries we went to didn't have anything to have between wines so they kind of ran together. This winery is an absolute must stop if you are out tasting in Napa!

By advcards |

Great venue lovely place to sit and sample their wines. They bring you a flight of four all at one time and don’t really tell you anything about the wines. Overall relaxing hour and a half, did not feel the need to bring any of the wines home.

By travelingfool76 |

This is a beautiful winery with lots of photo ops. The staff is very friendly. The wines are good, but nothing I cared to purchase. Definitely worth the stop though!

By MikeNJ333 |

Had a terrific tasting on a rainy Napa afternoon. Scott, our host was personable, knowledgeable and very helpful.
The wine selection was excellent and the tasting room and shop beautiful.
We would gladly return to this fantastic winery.
Thanks.

By Stephane R |

Great winery with a more european approach: cosy with a more relax attitude in a location which is breath-taking. The wines are very good to excellent and the staff can tell you everything you need to know about the wines or how they are made.

By drfalender |

We had a private driver last week in Napa and they choose Black Stallion as one of our afternoon stops. They had been previously contacted as to when we would arrive; however when we entered the tasting room, they acted as though they had no idea to expect us. Since we had been to three other wineries already that day and had a bad feeling about this one, we split a tasting. From then on, the service went downhill. Our first wine was poured with little information, no discussion and the young man walked away to talk with his coworker. Upon his return, I asked if he could be a little descriptive regarding the winery and the wines. We got minimal description. After the third pour, he never returned to us-we still had one wine left to try. I asked the hostess for our bill, paid it and left. I do not understand this type of treatment of a customer.

By Jedda1 |

What a nice find. Booked private tour so we go a bit deeper into the winery history. Recommend doing that. Fairly young winery but they have an exceptional product. They talk up their whites but their Syrah, Cab and blends are some of best I've had and a tremendous value from some of the higher end places like Alpha, Twomey, Pride.

Really enjoyed the time and now a huge fan of he wines!

By Todd |

We had a great time today at Black Stallion Winery! Jamie, our server, was excellent and we really enjoyed tasting their reserve wines! We liked the 2016 Malbec and the 2015 Transcendent! We would definitely recommend a visit to the winery if you’re in Napa.

By Tia24_12 |

The tasting room was nice as was the view from the patio. I was a little disappointed with the presentation. They did have an awesome dessert wine

By Thomas P |

Let me start out by saying that the next few reviews will be winery-based reviews. First one will be Black Stallion Winery in Napa CA.
We enter this beautiful estate, which was once a predominant horse farm, now transformed into a beautiful Vinyard and winery. The entire winery is super clean and fresh looking. Our host or I would rather call him the master of ceremonies to deliver our excellent tasting. His name was Eric and what a personality! Good knowledge of there wine and historian of the Napa winery experience. If you are looking to relax in a amazing environment with way above average wines. Black Stallion Winery would be a worthwhile visit.

By aamabile13 |

This was our first time here and we were nothing but impressed! There wasn't one wine we tasted and didn't fully enjoy! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great outdoor seating area and the same goes for inside. Definitely a must on your wine tasting trip!

By Dave & Dawn |

Red Zin and Cabernet-conessieur s MUST visit this top-shelf winery!

There's a special Red Zinfandel from a 130-year old vine that is a must-taste if you fancy reds.

Rich flavors and a fantastic venue made this a very enjoyable and worthwhile visit.

Robert was an excellent host, very knowledgeable and went above-and-beyond in service and education.

A+ recommendation!

By gr8vac8tion |

Everything about Black Stallion is stunning. From the moment you arrive at the vineyard and pull up the long drive you are stunned with beauty a d taste. The building is gorgeous with its stone and landscaping. Once you enter, you are welcomed by staff immediately. We met Dave who was our educator and server. We had the red flight and were wow’s right off the top with flavours and complexity building until the fourth of the flight. We paired it with the charcuterie which is a mixed rendition but what it lacks in present ration is made up for in flavour. Dave brought us a comparator for our favourite in the flight and we purchased 2 with a question of “what else should we consider?” He brought us 2 tasters and we debated and selected very special bottle to cellar at home. We are thrilled with our stop at Black Stallion and recommend it 100%

By PapaLaser |

The Black Stallion Winery is not far from the Silverado Resort where we were staying so we stopped in on our last day in Napa. We had a great wine tasting with very friendly staff. We wanted to buy a bottle to enjoy on the beautiful patio but that was not allowed so they gave us a very generous tasting to take outside. One of the view wineries in Napa that we purchased wines for shipment back home in Virginia. Definitely recommend a visit to Black Stallion.

By C E |

We visited a number of wineries during our trip to Napa Valley. While the tasting room and it's surroundings have been beautifully developed, the vineyards are not producing their own wines yet. Consequently it was more like an rural wine bar than a winery.
The staff were polite and could describe the products on sale, but lacked the depth of knowledge of the other wineries we visited

By GGWD |

This winery is excellent. The facility and grounds are beautiful, the wines were absolutely amazing (loved all of them) and they take care of our military with free tastings. Really really good wine and a great experience. Highly Recommended!!

By solonomad42 |

The place itself is beautiful. The wine was average served in subpar glasses by a completely disinterested staff. Granted we were there within 30 minutes of closing.... BUT will never recommend to anyone

By Kathleen H |

We started here first thing on the Silverado Trail. We were looking for sweet wines and they had one: 2009 Muscrat. We ordered two bottles at an excellent price and an equally attractive shipping price. They have friendly service and very attractive grounds. They let us taste the grapes on some of the vines and I must say I was surprised at how well I like these grapes compared to table grapes. The taste is completely different. We will stop here again when we come back to Napa.

If you are into the smaller wineries, we also found several in this immediate vicinity. One I wished I had stopped at because a lot of people from other vineyards were telling me about them. It may have been because I kept asking for a sweet wine. Their name is Hagafen Cellars.

By Gavin S |

Fantastic setting and wonderful wines to taste. Reasonable price and great quality. Lovely seating areas outside and example vines with information on the different grape varieties.

By Chloe |

This is a fantastic winery with wonderful staff - we cannot recommend a stop here enough!

We arrived on a wet and dreary morning, but the beautiful winery soon cheered us up. The grand central bar is a great feature and we enjoyed our tasting here immensely. The wines were all delicious, and our sales associate with generous with the pours and her explanations of each wine. We sampled many more than were on the list!

We left with two bottles of wine (we were desperate to take cases away with us but they don't ship to the UK!) and a haul of souvenirs. We are eagerly awaiting Black Stallion's arrival in the UK, and will certainly visit on our next trip to Napa.

By Damian C |

Cracker reds, go the premium tasting and you won't be disappointed at all with the full bottled Cabernets.
The staff tell the story of the wine and answer all your questions rather than pour and run. Grounds are great also.

While traveling in Napa for a business conference, an associate and I decided to go for a tasting at Black Stallion Winery. Our Sommelier was "Josh"'a dark haired and bearded guy who was charming and new his stuff. The tasting menu has excellent variety and tasting prices vary from around $20.00 to $35.00. The wines they purvey are excellent and full of flavor and character. The winery and vines are picturesque and the atmosphere is very welcoming and charming. The wines are priced from the mid $20.00 to upper $60.00 range and they are delicious. There is plenty of parking and the tasting room is stellar. If you are planning on traveling in Napa and are are looking for a nice tasting experience, by all means give Black Stallion a try. I would come here again without question!

By H2sMom |

Beautiful black stallion fountain out front of this huge winery. Great photo opp. They took our huge group through and explained wine making to us throughout their facility. Informative and they had some good wines. Giant facility, covered back porch area, lots of open air spaces, was a little chilly in January.

By Steve D |

If you want to get away from the main stream wineries and large crowds, find the Black Stallion.

It’s a small, friendly spot with a very nice ambience. No lines, I walked in and was greeted immediately by their staff and a lovely fireplace. I didn’t do the tour but I paid for their reserve tasting and tried some fabulous wines including the 2014 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 barrel reserve, & 2011 Bucephalus Red Blend. Very high quality grapes, and great conversation made for a lovely tasting. They also have a beautiful terrace where you can sit and have a glass or two.

Highly recommend for a more personal experience.

By GJTravel |

This is a pretty impressive place. Really nice. Familiar with their wine we really enjoyed this stop. Tasted some grapes from the vine here. Tastings were great. Nice bar area and other places to sit and enjoy. Good one here.

By StreetPretzel |

We went here for wine tasting. The experience was not very satisfying. It was an expensive tasting for the few wines offered. The samplings were small, and we were rushed through quickly. The need to order 3 wines to waive a tasting charge was excessive and not in line with most of the other vineyards. I will say that pizza and wine tasting on the patio looked like a great option. The people seemed to be enjoying it. It we tried that, it is possible my review would have been better.

By DreamaG |

The winery is very pretty and picturesque outdoors; however, we were disappointed by our tasting experience. The wines weren’t high quality and service was even worse. There are much better options in the area.

By Dick T |

Very impressive facility...modern, lot of goodies for sale, impressive selection of wines, but for our palate, they are just average. Wine tasting there is expensive, unless you buy wine. There are just too many better wineries in Napa.We probably won't visit again.

By Anna G |

We were very dissatisfied with the service. Even though we were interested and genuinely trying to find a wine to buy, the service treated us very snottily when we expressed interest in wines in the "lower" price range of $50-$60. Their passive-aggressive attitude overshadowed any enjoyment we might have had, making it an overall disappointing experience. Needless to say, we left without buying anything.

Jamie gave us a good tasting. We had 2015 Los Carneros Pinot Noir, Napa Valley Syrah, Merlot, Black Seas Vineyard Zinfandel, 2016 Poseidon Vineyard Chardonnay, 2017 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 2016 unfiltered Chardonay, and 2016 White Blend. It was a good experience and right down the street from our hotel.

Love this place and the people that work here. We had a two-day corp meeting in their private room and it was a perfect setting. The food was superb and the staff was attentive but not intrusive.

By bearcats37 |

This is our third trip to Napa Ca. This is also our third trip to the Black Stallion winery, one of two favorites in the valley, where there are so Amy options, just a nice relaxing setting and ver friendly, you will enjoy.

By heckmom |

Disappointed. Between the cost and the wine, not worth the trip. We sat down and the host poured our 4 wines each and left. No interaction, no history, nothing. After other vineyards were so friendly, this was a letdown.

To top off the wines were not on par with other places visited.

By alicerabbit |

This was our first stop of the day on a Saturday morning. It was only 10:30 and there were no crowds. The huge black stallion statue in front of the winery is what brought me in. I love art and wanted to take a photo. This winery is not sleek - it is tasteful western horsey style. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great tasting wines and not over-the-top pricing. Our tasting fee was waived as we purchased several bottles of wine. Their educational gardens had informational plaques and you could taste the grapes if you wanted to pluck them from the vines. The leaves were many shades of red and purple - great fall photo ops.

We had my wife's birthday party here, and were amazed at the elegance and ambience they pulled off without being pretentious. The staff was marvelous, responsive, and just plain friendly. We ended up joining the wine club, and have been back several times for events. The wine is delicious, and again the staff makes it fun to taste. If you can't smell the mulberry and Corinthian leather notes in the nose, they won't look down their nose at you. I'm no aficionado, but I look forward to every taste at black stallion, and opening every bottle that makes it home. Never been disappointed!

By SRIZZO23 |

This was our first stop on a three day adventure through Napa. We didn't have a reservation and just walked in to find the tasting room. They had a nice collection of wines that our group enjoyed (almost as much as they enjoyed the 2 for 1 wine tasting.

Nice way to start the trip but we definitely got better experiences at outer vineyards that we visited later on the trip.

By LsyaB |

Everyone really friendly. Served us right away. Nice ambiance. Good prices on the wine. Would definitely return.

By Molly B |

We ended our day of tours here and are so glad we did! The price point begins at $15 for a tasting and they offer several. We shared 3 tastings: white, mixed and zinfandels. They have a cute gift shop and nice restrooms, too! One of the best outdoor patios we saw, too!

By Kathy H |

For the past two summers in August, we have attended the Black Stallion Zinfandel Dinner and it is fabulous! Although I dropped my membership to the vineyard, the Dinner is open to the public at a very reasonable price ($85) for what you get - great food, wonderful wines and super setting on the patio. Plus the staff at Black Stallion make you feel they are entertaining you in their home. If you don't have time for the dinner, at least stop by this vineyard to do a tasting of their wines - you won't be disappointed!

By Anthony A |

We stopped to have lunch at this winery. Beautiful scenery and service was great. Large winery without the large winery fee.

By Cheryl S |

As a little girl, I loved the story of the Black Stallion. So when I saw the name of the winery on the map, I had to stop by. It was our first stop and my second visit to Napa Valley. The first being 27 years ago.

Among one of the many new wineries, this winery is easy to get to, has parking, and a lovely tasting room. We could not do a tour but looked around. We shared a flight - and the gentlemen helping us were very friendly. We explained our tastes and they helped pick a flight we enjoyed. The wines were very good. They had some unique wine stoppers that I noticed and bought one.

The grounds were very pretty - we were early so not much had started to grow or blossom but the day was warm and sunny, and we wandered around,

While it was very nice and we enjoyed the wine, the $25/flight price was steep so we left shortly after we finished.

By LifeAtlasTravel |

We didn't have the most knowledgeable staff, but the wine was pleasant and the buildings and grounds were just beautiful.

By arlene m |

Terrific wine tasting. Nice history about winery and each individual wines. Hidden gem! Even tried some wines off the menu according to special requests within our group. Spent a couple hours on the patio and have a few new members. Thank you Lydia

By Lisa3676 |

What an amazing, relaxing and informative experience. We tasted delicious wines and learned so much about the Napa Valley's micro climates. We enjoyed this tasting so much that we wanted to join the wine club, but sadly they cannot ship to New Jersey. Daryl hosted us and was so welcoming and helpful. We really enjoyed our conversations with him and left with several nice bottles of wine. We will definitely return.

By Beth V |

Visited as part of a conference where we were able to taste several reserve wines, served dinner in the cellar, and able to walk the lovely grounds. We enjoyed our tastings and the grounds are quite nice, as was the staff. I would recommend.

By Paula R |

Black Stallion Estate Winery was absolutely amazing in every single way! We had a group come in to experience the winery, wine tasting as well as an amazing lunch out on the mezzanine! Everything from the wine maker to the general manager to the chef was spectacular in every way! We were all so impressed with our experience that many of us, including myself, joined the wine club so that we can continue enjoying these amazing wines after we have left the Napa area. We highly recommend Black Stallion for your group events as well as for your small intimate gatherings. Thank you for an amazing experience!

By guamgirl64 |

Stopped here on our way out of Napa. Should have spent more time on the silver ado trail, as it is just gorgeous there. Loved BS tasting room, look for the coupons online. Save some $$ on the tasting and ship a few bottles home. Cute gifts, and private rooms if necessary.

By Helena S |

We came here a little late and they still let us try great wines and had a TV in the back for the guys to watch football! Nice spot.

By GeorgeandJane2015 |

From the time you walk in the door and are greeted by Adriana and walk over to the tasting bar and are served by Angelisa to walking thru the patio to tastes grapes right off the vine everything here is beautiful.
Ops did I mention the Reds??? Everything you hear is true and was exactly what I expected BUT,,,The one that caught me by surprise was the RED ZIN>>AMAZING!
Lots to see as this used to be a horse training center and has quite a bit of history not found anywhere else.

By Sue M |

Fabulous winery. Excellent wines and a beautiful location. Staff was friendly and made us feel like we were the only people there. Loved it. Fire in the fireplace and soft leather chairs. We bought more here than anywhere else. Not to be missed winery in Napa.

By josiegirl97 |

This is was a great stop on Silverado Trl. Being on a lesser traveled road made it less crowded than other wineries. The grounds & tasting room are beautiful. The wine host that helped us was very friendly & knowledgeable. I definitely enjoyed this stop.

By KnightTrainTX |

Good wine, pretty place, but the hit of the visit was the lady that did our tasting! She made us comfortable and we shared some laughs.

By Pioneer54005633005 |

Great tasting room, knowledgeable friendly staff, great wine at fair prices. Eco-friendly winery with extras - when grapes are in season you can try all the varietal grapes next to the tasting room - have never tried that anywhere else and it was so cool. The pollinator garden with picnic tables is gorgeous and a bonus. Can't wait to try the wine/meal pairing next time we return!

By Lisa G |

This place wasn't even on our radar during a recent visit. We stopped by on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. The wines were very nice and the atmosphere inviting.

Next time we will schedule more time here and a possibility a tour.

By 412stevew |

We did a wine tasting at Black Stallion. Our first Napa wine tasting. The staff was very helpful. The wine was very good. Great atmosphere.

By Dan P |

Reasonable tasting fees, knowledgable staff, an interactive vineyard and of course delicious wines make this a nice half- hour or hourlong stop on your Napa Silverado Trail tour

By Chrissyike9307 |

For some reason I’m
not able to rate this winery with a 5 but that’s what it should get. We visited early on a Tuesday and we pretty much had the place to ourselves
for a little bit. Can’t say enough great things about William our server. He was friendly, knowledgeable and had quite a few one liner jokes! My adult children and I loved how
they did the tasting here. They poured all
the wines at once and we were able to taste side by side. We purchased some wines to bring back and share with friends. Right off the Silverado Trail it’s a lovely and convenient location and should be added to your wine tasting list. Thanks William for starting off our day of tasting in a great note!

By R H |

Was unfamiliar with the vineyard prior to just driving by. Beautiful building and interior. Large tasting area the was full late on a Sunday. The wines are good but priced at the higher end of the middle range. Service was just a pour and return no pour again. No complaints just no conversations. Will keep an eye open for their wines in the stores.

By May S |

I was excited to visit this winery as friends at work are members and said there are nice membership events. However, when we arrived an older gentleman served us and proceeded to interrogate me. He proceeded to ask multiple personal questions, even asking me where I worked, what streets I lived near, asked me what hours I worked. Each time he returned to the table he only addressed me and asked another series of intrusive questions. Not once did he talk about the property or the heritage of the wine or owners. He was the oddest host we have ever had. I have been to many wineries in the area as I live 1 hour away. I honestly did not enjoy my time there and felt violated. I did not get to have the afternoon of relaxation I needed instead I felt like I had just gone through an interview. My friend even said what is up with that guy. He was interviewing you? The wine was good but not the best I've had and I won't be returning.

By Max |

A large group of us on business visited the winery. The drive up to the building is lovely, there is a beautiful statue of a black stallion in front of a Mediterranean looking property. We enjoyed wine tasting on the terrace, it was a great experience.

By Rob C |

This is a pleasant winery and tasting room but, considering its location, it has nothing that would make it stand out of a crowd. Many wineries in Napa County have brand new, spacious tasting rooms, many have patios, many have expansive tastings. They all have pretty good wine. This place is nice, no doubt, but pretty bland and , in the end, very standard looking. Staff are pleasant, and the service was good when I was there.

By JessieRue |

We came here with friends because we had a coupon. We weren't sure what to expect. We were greeted by Jeffrey who followed us to the bar to be our wine pourer. He spent the next 2 hours with us- he opened our eyes to so many great wines. His time and attention was so thoughtful and fun that we left with a bottle, glass, and plans to return. We told other couples to visit because Jeffrey have us such a memorable time.

By expelliarmus22 |

Beautiful winery with outdoor seating available. Our pourer, Domenic, was a hoot and made the experience very enjoyable. The wines were fine. Honestly, we have a lot of wine at home so we are not looking to buy any. We're just visiting them for the joy of it so after a day of tasting it's hard to remember how the wines were here as it was our first winery of the day. But, I would definitely go back.

By Gator-Getter-Girl |

A nice place to have a tasting under the pergola outside..the Pinot was my absolute fav! Everyone is extremely knowledgeable and great fun to talk to while tasting!

By Margaret M |

Really great place that doesn’t try to “over sell” their wine or their wine club. Nice tasting area. Our guy was quite knowledgeable about the wine and the winery.

By Mary Jean H |

I was disappointed when we walked in and no one at all acknowledged we were there. I took off to the restroom while my husband looked around. When I returned we were all set up for a tasting. We did the red tasting, enjoyed each one of them. The grounds have grape vines you can read about each grape and then pick it yourself to sample. It was a great experience. Enjoy my friends!

By Nancy A |

We sat outside to taste and got lucky enough to have Terri pouring and passing on knowledge about the wines and winery. There was no pressure here at all. Very relaxing. Good wines (we purchased).

By C L |

We happened to stop by with help from yelpers!
The wine room smells so good when you enter.
Tasting inside within a square.
Our wine guide was knowledgeable and liberal with our tasting, allowing us to revisit our favorite cabs.
Bucephalus 2014 94 points is outstanding!
Aromatic and complex and full bodied!

Highly recommended!

By DRODD1 |

The Black Stallion was 1 of 4 wineries visited during our Wine Country Tour, but it was the absolute BEST!!!! The winery is located in an absolutely beautifully scenic area, the premises were stunning and they won us over when they were the ONLY winery that offered to comp our wine tasting fees since we were military!!! Greatly appreciated and we are spreading the word about your generosity to vets!!!! They also had a beautiful patio area...that offered an interactive educational area where you could taste the grapes grown for the different types of wines....you were the ONLY winery that offered that as well. TOP NOTCH!!!! And the staff were so pleasant, professional and knowledgeable!!! The wines were outstanding...let them know what you are interested in and they will accommodate (I like reds so they ensured I had reds to sample). Looking forward to seeing that Malbec in the near future. This winery is a MUST VISIT!!!!

By SMPFoley |

Love the wine here and the facility was beautiful. The wine tasting was reasonably priced and the they were very helpful in suggestions and selections. They also carry very nice gifts in their gift shop. Will come here again.

By Ashley W |

This was our first stop/winery. The cost was very reasonable and the staff was great! We had our tastings and walked around the area which was beautiful. It was a good deal for the atmosphere. Would recommend

By Perry F |

David greeted us and was welcoming! Lovely setting outside which made for a very relaxing tasting. Lovely wines…loved the reds! David was helpful and passionate about the wines!

By JOSEPH R |

2 for one offer from the tourist info center led us to our first "pay for wine tasting" in Napa. Very busy, upscale $35 for 2 tastings and a cheese platter. Nice setting, 1 free tasting as you enter, since this was our first encounter with pay for tasting in wine country we moved on.

By johnson062610 |

My husband and I went to Napa for our first wedding anniversary and this was the first winery we stopped at. It was a lovely way to start te day! The atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful! The wines were tasty and before you leave you MUST try the peanut brittle...trust me! Make sure to stop here.

By Islandgirl53 |

Our experience at Black Stallion Winery was amazing from start to finish. We were greeted and taken to our tasting location on their lovely patio. Our host, David, was extraordinary! Very personable and knowledgeable, he made us feel very welcomed. The wines were all very good, and even though we are not big fans of sweet wines, their port was delicious! We ended up getting the charcuterie box and the cheeses and meat were all very good. This was a pleasant place to taste some fine wine and relax. If you want a great tasting experience, is it Black Stallion Winery, you will be glad you did!

By N R T |

Their website says walk ins welcome, but when we got there after driving from Folsom,we were told wine tastings were only by appointment. When we mentioned that the info was different on their website, we were told “Sorry, no tasting without appointment.” I usually buy a case of wine after a tasting, but this winery didn’t care about my business. I would say that if you want a wine tasting, go elsewhere and spend your money.

By David F |

The grounds here are great and there are lots of great spots for cool photos. The wine is great and the tasting room is very nice! Tasting fees were reasonable and they offer good value wine clubs.

By dfpe |

I have been here multiple times and am never disappointed. The first time was at my son's recommendation as he is a chef and was moving to the area. I was a little put off by the fact that they did not have their own vineyard but that concern quickly abated at my first, maybe second or third, sip. That was 2010. We have been case club members ever since and have not been disappointed - they are as good as they were all those years ago. None of their wines are for sale at retailers so there is also an element of exclusivity bringing notes of surprise to the eyes of company when we pull out a bottle. The venue is nice and cool on a hot day, plenty of room at the bar. Bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. Tasting for case club members is free and well worth it. You get to taste some things that are not available for the general public and the bartenders will let you in on a few "secret bottles." Whenever we visit our son we go out for a day of wine tasting and spend most, if not all of our time here. There are a lot of good places, this one feels like home to us.

By Robert M |

This tasting was part of a tour of wineries by Dynamic Wine Tours of Napa.

We chose to do a mixed tasting ($15/person) and we shared our tasting to keep the price within reason. Tasting fees are waived with the purchase of 3 or more bottles of wine.

While we enjoyed this tasting, it really didn't stand out among the other wine tastings we experienced in a couple of days in the Napa Valley. We visited a total of 7 wineries in 2 days and this one just was one of the crowd. It wasn't bad and we did buy 3 bottles of wine.

We did not tour the winery either. How many different wine tours can you take when eventually they all look alike. As a retired chemical engineer, the fermentation tanks, filters, pumps and pipes are all too familiar. So we skipped the tour.

By Zactastic |

enough said. I met my Wife here and it's our special spot. we love the new patio upgrades and high ceilings. You must go here. Ask for Josh. He's the bar manager and he'll treat you really well. :)

By richt727 |

I realize that wine is largely subjective, but there were a few things about it I feel I can objectively chide. For one, the tasting bar is cramped and you don't really get to enjoy the tasting experience like you can at some other wineries nearby. Also, The have you taste out of tiny glasses which make it harder to open up the wine and get a feel for it. It was like tasting at a cheap winery, EXCEPT, it wasn't cheap. My biggest complaint is that the tasting options were price equivalent with a Cakebread, Mumm, Duckhorn, or even Rutherford Hill, without any of the comforts that you get in these other places.

Drive down the street to Clos Du Val and pay less for better

By Travelerfan050 |

We had not planned to go to Napa Valley, but found we had extra time on our trip, and made the detour out of San Francisco to visit. This was one of the wineries we visited and boy was it worth it! We enjoyed the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the staff was incredible and the art was amazing. We walked around the winery a bit, and one of the staff members allowed us a small glimpse into their work areas. I am not a big wine drinker, but I bought a few bottles because I wanted to be able to relive this part of our trip when we got back home! If you have the chance... this is definately a wonderful winery to visit... and I felt if you are planning a very special event, such as a wedding, etc.. this would be a great choice for that as well. They have both indoor and outdoor settings... made me want to get married all over again!!

By megboire |

I cannot say enough good things about this winery! Katie was a great host and really helped us in learning about the winery. It was a beautiful atmosphere where we could have spent many more hours had time let us. We will definitely visit here again!

By akafurby |

Our group's visit to Black Stallion was a pop-in to start the day as this winery isn't appointment-only, which is nice. The facility is nice but the outdoor areas are the star of the show - they're gorgeous. I'm not sure any woman can walk out there and not want to take a picture for their "Ideal Patio" Pinterest board.

I had the mixed tasting, which was a blend of whites and reds. For this trip, I was gravitating towards whites so this tasting fit the bill. I thought the wines were good but not life-changing. A friend had the reserve tasting and had his mind blown.

All in all, a good experience. I'd go back.

By Chef Dan F |

We had a wonderful experience at Black Stallion. The wine was wonderful. I really think the reason
for our great time was Alice. Alice was very knowledgeable of the wine and the Napa area.
Alice was a true delight and made our visit to Black Stallion just a real treasure and a great memory.
Beautiful grounds, great wine and friendly folks.

By likes2travel01955 |

Beautiful 32 Acre estate, which was one a Horseman's center. The grounds are so very beautiful, I think it's a must see on your wine tasting adventure. Staff is very nice and tastings start at $15.00 through $35.00 Not too bad. Also, you can have an all red, white, or mixed tasting. For the folks that want to SHARING a tasting is AOK too.

By Tom3318 |

This was the worst experience we had in Napa.during our trip! The host dropped off the $55 dollar tasting and had no knowledge of any of the wines.
She read from a script and would not go of script. We had visited various winery’s that had very knowledgeable individuals who would discuss the wine. When we mentioned this she said this was a casual tasting. So they give you 4 small tastings and leave and you discuss with your company. No interaction with staff why the wine taste or smell. I highly recommend do not do this tasting "experience."

By AlannaB490 |

Black Stallion is known for the Cabs, so as a cab drinker this is a must-see winery.

We did not schedule any appointments for a tasting and was able to walk-in. [I do not remember if they offer tours or not.]

We did a tasting at the stand-up bar area and chose the all cab tasting. We really enjoyed their cabs, especially the ones that are only sold on property - go figure. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to ship to NJ! I wish I had purchased a few more bottles while I was there of their higher-end Cabs because I will not get them for a long time.

We were able to walk around the property after our tasting although there isn't much to see wandering in your own. Overall, it is a well designed winery and definitely recommend this location for Cab drinkers.

By GKHansen |

Black Stallion Winery is located about 3 miles north of Napa on the Silverado Trail. We visited on a rainy Wednesday in January and were practically alone in the tasting room. The concierge, Adriana, was delightful and made us feel right at home. And then there was the wine. To my taste, 2 really stood out - the Sauvignon Blanc and the Syrah. Both were outstanding and will find a permanent place in our cellar. The Syrah was perhaps the best example of this wine that I have ever tasted. The icing on the cake today was when Adriana arranged for me to shoot a few photos in and around the cellar. This was a real treat and likely only available on a slow rainy day. Thanks so much!

By alam555 |

We w et there with a tour and were terribly disappointed. Staff at the front desk is mostly temps and readily admit to not being totally aware of the product or history. We found the wine to be boring. As you arrive a hostess will run you through the process and basically just leave you to your devices. After that good luck. We got shuttled back and forth a couple of times because inside help was not knowledgeable and the outside bar did not have the premium wine that was listed on the menu. Very frustrating. We will not be back.

By Sinatra30 |

Beautiful winery on the south end of Silverado Trail. My wife shared the Red & Zin flights. Both offered 4 different types of wine and they were all tasty. Great atmosphere and the staff was informative. Recommend visiting!

By GoodKarmaTravels |

We won a tasting/tour for four at an auction for this winery. The concierge was so professional in making our appointment, even called to remind us the day before. We were greeted with a glass of rose and to a fun tour, we ended with a great tasting with generous pours and fun conversation. This would be a lovely place for an event.

By eblitt |

We reserved the picnic area and brought our own food. It was a great experience - winery is beautiful and reserved space was incredible. We bought three bottles (used two and took one for dinner later that night) and that was the only cost. Service, location and value was fantastic!

By -HK-Davey- |

Located on the Silverado Trail, the winery didn't have the cozy ambiance, nor the luxury setting of other wineries we had visited. The wines were average and we did not consider buying after the tasting. Service was friendly, but with all the amazing venues and wines in Napa, I would pass on this.

By Tom L |

Every wine on the list is delicious and the surroundings make tasting even better. They have a killer rose which not all wineries can say - just the right balance of fruit and dryness. If I had to choose off the list what to take home it would probably be their signature cab which is soft enough to sleep on but has all the qualities of a beautifully crafted, oak finished cab. The petite sirah is a very close second for me - rich, not too soft, and beautiful to look at. Don't overlook the zins. They have a couple and both are fabulous in their own rights. Price is right in the middle for Napa wines but closer to the top in terms of quality. This is the only wine club I maintain in Napa. I have one in Mendocino and one in the Shenandoah Valley. I also make my own wine which is quite drinkable but when I want to sit back and really enjoy a magnificant wine experience, I can't beat Black Stallion. Give them a try.

By Eagle42 |

I said it all in the title. The wine was just OK... but please remember wine is a very subjective item... "one man's meat, etc."

By Christy Menendez |

this winery and the wine is so great. its a pretty place. theres a statue of a stallion in the front as you enter. this winery use to be a ranch back in the day. which also gives it the name of this winery. the staff are great. the wine is fantastic. theres a pretty seating area in the back side of the winery where you park, and off to the side. the atmosphere is laid back. you feel welcome when you walk in the door. the people who work here are so informative and they give you all sorts of input on how the winery's mission is. you'll love it here.

By asmith6688 |

We really enjoyed our time at Black Stallion. They have so many choices and so many price points. They truly have something for everyone. We liked everything we tried. They have a wonderful outdoor patio lounging area where we relaxed in between tastings. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Make sure you make Black Stallion a part of your Napa Valley experience.

By 684ebenr |

I loved the views from the patio at this winery and the stallion sculpture out front is very nice. Also they had different grape vines right next to the patio with information about each type. It was very educational and the wine was great too!

By Helio B |

Amazing facility and superb service! Wines were robust full bodied and simply a delight to the senses. Well priced for the area and certainly a variety for everyone's price range.

By ColoradoGirl1213 |

My boyfriend and I made our first trip to Napa last week. Black Stallion was the first winery we visited and what a good choice it was! The grounds were nice (we saw more impressive venues as the day wore on, but these were beautiful in their own right) and the people were the nicest we met all day. They gave us a great map and helped us plan the rest of our day and recommended other wineries to visit based on our tastes. The pours were generous enough that my boyfriend and I shared a tasting - the Sauvignon Blanc was great and we purchased a bottle later on. Definitely a worthwhile stop!

By BigDoba |

Nice architecture of the building and the grounds. Full bar area with friendly staff. The wines were good as well. We tasted the Zin and the Cab. Ended up buying a bottle of the 2010 Cab. Outside sitting area was really nice. Would definitely visit again.

By Tamara B |

I found this place because it was listed in an article as one of the area's best boutique wineries, it was listed with Del Dotto which has our favorite wines so I decided the author must have good taste. Ha! Ha! gh a
I really enjoyed their wines. Almost every single one!

I ended up buying their dessert wine too. I am not generally a port drinker but this one was delicious and I decided to branch out a bit!

Their staff was friendly and they have comfy couches that you can relax on.

By KellyV_traveler |

I cant say enough about the property and the staff. We recently celebrated our sons rehearsal dinner and held a welcome reception for wedding guest at the property. The facility was beautiful and met our needs for an intimate dinner for 30 and a reception for 80 guest. The staff went over and above to make our evening perfect. Josiah accommodated our every need and made quick changes to meet the changes in the weather. A beautiful place to visit for a glass of wine or a special occasion.

By flatfootfoodie |

With so many great wineries in Napa, no need to stop here. The wine is just okay (at best) and the location/aesthetics are easily beaten by the other great wineries out there.

By Helen B |

We wanted a breif and last minute wine tasting experience on our one night in Napa so once we got to our hotel we tried to find somewhere. We stumbled across this online and it was nearby, the others we tried needed a reservation.
It is beautiful, the location, the interior, the exterior its all very impressive.
Once in we were served by a lovely lady who looked after us the whole time.
There are a few tasting options which are 4 or 5 wines for $15, we had 1 each on the mixed and then shared the reds. we ended up very merry but it was a very enjoyable experience!!
It would have been nice to have got all the wines at once so we could sit outside rather than loitering at the bar. Also the cheese was delicious but more food choices would have good, just nibbly bits like olives or pittas but I guess the focus is more on selling bottles rather than having it as a bar.
Also closes at 5pm.
Very nice, would happily go back. Sure there are plenty of alternatives that would have suited more what we wanted but we didn't have time to find one!

By Randy B |

First trip to Black Stallion. Beautiful winery. We did a simple tasting at the bar. Felt like the pours were really tiny. Good wine. Not sure I would go back when I am in wine country again. Did buy a bottle of Transcendent (excellent).

By Tony P |

This wine was not worth the $50 tasting fee. The pourer was also not social and overall we a subpar experience. Don’t waste your time and go elsewhere. I also feel wineries should start giving free tastings and making their money when I buy bottles if their wine is worth it.

By Jenny M |

We went here on Christmas Eve. It was busy. They have a variety of wine flights from $15-40. The concierge was preoccupied and didn't want to answer questions. Selina was an excellent wine pourer. There was a military discount for the tasting and retail items.

By Melissa |

Black Stallion Winery has a beautiful tasting room. They also have a lot of cute merchandise. The wine was pretty good, but we didn't buy anything here. You could easily spend a couple hours here tasting, shopping, wandering around or just sitting at one of the table by the fireplace relaxing. This was one of my favorite wineries to visit because of the atmosphere.

By xman92905 |

Outstanding property, wine and service. Highly recommend it as a destination on your Napa Valley visit.

By Ron R |

It seems every time we visit Napa, the testing rooms are charging $5 more. The cheapest flight available for two whites and two reds was $20... and it went up from there. The Cabernet was one of the best i've tasted.

By Edwelsh |

Wonderful experience, Black Stallion excels at customer satisfaction. Beautiful estate, comfortable seating, great staff and amazing tasting wine. We even ran into a family member who took time to stop and talk with our group. Thanks to our server, who we kidnapped to go outside and take group pictures at the Black Stallion.

Interestingly enough, this vineyard doesn't make its own wine for external sales or distribution. It only procures it from other vineyards, but they have a beautiful show facility for tasing. Yes, they bottle a very small amount of wine they sell only through the vineyard tastings and their wine club. This winery does make other known brands such as Delicato and Gnarly Head. We tasted some of their wines and the Rose was best. The facility though is outstanding. Beautiful and educational. If you step outside you'll see rows and rows of every significant varietal and it's history and interesting facts. Even through this isn't a winery you'd know, it was very nice stop.

Very good chardonnay here, and my wife loved the equine theme. We enjoyed our visit to Black Stallion Winery and would recommend it to others.
