Very nice little park. Grandson had fun feeding the animals and playing at the playground. There are shaded areas as well.

A great place for family, friends, children, or just a visit to take in some fresh air and enjoy the tranquility.

This place is easy to access and get around. There's plenty of space to get around and a playground for the kids. It's has free admission and it's cheap to feed the animals (bring quarters).

Brought my 3 year old grandson here and he loved it. It has grown and improved so much since my children were young. He enjoyed it as much as he would have if we'd spend a bundle and gone to the Zoo. The fencing is very child friendly. A great place, hard to believe it's still free.

My wife and I took our 4 and 2 year old kids here. Didn't know anything about it but so glad we went. It's free which is always good. But even better was all the animals, the petting zoo part and hay ride. The playground was great too! We all loved it. Well worth a visit!

It's been many years since I've been to Bluebird Gap Farm, but I believe it's still a wonderful place for children to visit. The sounds of the surrounding animals and the visual appearance of "farm life" makes for a for real experience. Many of the animals can be touched without worry of injury to the children. I went there many times as a child, loving each and every trip ! Bluebird Gap Farm can best be described as a simple and great place, for a child to learn. The visit time I checked is not accurate, but a time had to be checked. Take your children, they'll love it !

My daughter loves it here. Playground and trails to explore. She gets to feed the and pet some of the animals and all for free! We also love the gardens

Great place for family fun .It is fun to see all the farm aminals, wild animals that can't be rehabilitated. In the spring it is fun to see the new additions to the farm. They have a fun large play yard. The trail is a easy walk to see birds and rabbits. Picnic area a great day at Blue Bird Gap Farm!

I’ve lives here my entire life and visited since I was younger. It is free, minus the dollar for food (if you want to feed the animals) they have done a lot of updating lately and it looks great.

We went there weekly when our son was small. The animals, gardens, play area made for this being a standard request from our son if asked where he would like to go. In the summer they had special events which we attended and the staff is very friendly

My daughters are 41 and 46 years of age. They enjoyed this park then--riding the real ponies, feeding bread to the birds, etc. Now, we take my grandchildren, ages 6 and 8. They love this park, and I marvel at the changes.

Bluebird Gap is a nice place to kill an hour or so with the kiddos. They have quite a few farm animals that there for the kids to see. they also have a nice play area for the kids as well.

This is an awesome way to spend a few hours on a nice day. There are several different animals from deer to birds to larger farm animals like cows & horses. They offer a free hayride on Saturdays at noon. There is also a playground & picnic area for when your tour is over. The playground is designed for handicapped children to access the equipment as well. Admission is free & there are feeding pellet dispensers for a few quarters per use. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for something for kids to do, something to spend a few pleasant sunny hours, families, those looking for a bit of a nature trail, and enthusiastic gardeners. Every 6 or so months there is a plant sale of items raised in their nursery.

We took our children thinking that we'll be there for 1 hour and we stayed nearly 3 hours!
There are different animals to pet and feed, and arboretum, a hiking trail and a big ol' playground.
There are some vending machines or you can bring your own food and drinks. It can get hot so make sure to get hats, sun screen, etc.
The entrance is free and you only have to pay for food to feed the animals so it's a win win for all.

Such a wonderful Farm and everyone there works hard. They take care of the animals and have alot of things like hayrides, movie night etc...

This is a nice place for people who are on a budget because it is FREE!!!! My five year old loves the animals and she really loves the playground area. there are always lots of children when we go so that's a little nerve wrecking trying to keep up with your child and everyone else but overall it is great!!

We love to go to Bluebird every time my grandson visits from Charlotte. He is five now, and we have enjoyed it every time he comes. I even enjoyed Bluebird with my own children who are now in their twenties!

Enjoyed taking all 3 of my grand children to the Halloween party they put on. The kids enjoyed them, It was nice and organized!

They have animals, a playground, garden areas, picnic tables & it's free & local. This is a nice place to go for a couple of hours for the whole family. It is relaxing & nicely kept up.

We enjoyed all types of animals that were there. The people were friendly.we will be back when we come back to Hampton va

took our grandson there and he had a blast with all the different animals. you can get up cos and personal with them

This is one of our favorite things to do in Hampton- lots of animals to see- FREE ADMISSION (bring your quarters for the feed machines). Huge, new playground for kids- good for all ages.

it's a nice little farm, has been there for years. plenty of farm animals, a white peacock and a blue peacock. nice areas for the children to play, picnic tables. in the spring they have a plant sale and what they can't sell you can take home for free. i have a hawthorne tree that no one wanted, it's a beautiful little tree. bring your lunch, children, camera and make a day of it. it's hiden from the busy road, it's just a nice place to sit and remember happy times, if any of your family lived on a farm. brings back many memories for me

This is an amazing free way to spend time with your family. It’s a farm with chickens, goats, horses, lambs, peacocks, ducks, a garden, and a cute trail with little hills to climb. Back to nature in a safe environment. Can’t believe it’s free. A hidden gem!

It was nice and relaxing spot but its seems to me the animals aren't healthy and happy lol. All the chickens had severe feathers missing and one of the goats could barely walk . I guess if you never seen farm animals then this will be a great spot to visit.

good place to take the kids and let them explore, bring a lunch and let the kids play at the playground and have yourself a relaxing few hr

FREE.. admission & parking! We saw horses, goats, lamas and birds! Playground for kids. Nice date night. Educational trip. ( for all ages)

Well Hampton at one time wanted to close it down, move the animals to the PTC, Sandy Bottom park, yes this was kicked around. I believe they wanted the land for their $$$ pipe dream of high end condos. They have this silly Master Plan for this area.
The have changed aka moved the entrance, and to my surprise, this is still a hidden little gem of a kid's park. A bit of a menagerie of fenced farm animals, a few loose bird live stock.
Nice parking lot. Nice small playground, walking path around what feels like a small farm, minus the farm house. Even a small graveyard can be found. Sheltered cooking areas, large sitting areas.
Was shocked, so unlike Hampton. Well kept small park.
An enjoyable outing with the kids or you just need a short walk in a park.

The park has lost some of it's glamour, Not as many animals and not as well kept as it was years ago. Kids were bored in short order.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with this place . Had my nephews 4th bday party here.. it's all free but you have to reserve the covered picnic area to make sure you have dibs ... there are a lot of different animals on site.. you can also purchase food to feed them... peacocks are free range and beautiful .. there is a garden area and a large play ground for kids. I was also pleased to see a bunch of staff working on site with the animals .. they appear to be very well taken care of .. which is a good thing ...

We love the Bluebird Gap farm. The grounds are always well kept, the animals appear to be fairly happy and best of all it is FREE. If you are looking for a great half-day excursion for younger children, this place is an absolute must.

The farm offers entertainment for small children, they can view the animals, it is fairly small, worth a visit.

A group of friends and family members met here to have a picnic. They had several open picnic tables. The kids enjoyed seeing and touching the animals. It was a great experience. Best of all, it was free!

This farm was very relaxing and the staff were very helpful and nice. Plenty of animals to feed and pet. The peacocks roam around free. Quite a large park for children, just a great place feed and pet. The peacocks roam around free. Quite a large play park for children, just a great place for families.

I would recommend this place for families with young kids. There is a wide variety of animals and a large playground to run around and play. This is probably not a place you could spend all day in but is good for at least a couple hours. The best part is that it's all free!

The well-maintained garden area from the Hampton Master Naturalist is worth a visit to enjoy the flowers and garden hints. Animals are well maintained and cared for, even on the hottest days they are watered and cooled. They are feed by the staff but also you can feed the animals as well (this is regulated to keep with the animal's health in mind). Wonderful to spend an hour or so feeding the animals, taking a stroll, and if you have offspring there is a large playground to explore.

This place has been here since I was little. I enjoyed it as a child then and it is still a nice visit now. All kinds of animals and plants to see!

We combined this location with Fort Monroe for a day trip. There are a lot of animals that you can see and feed for a small fee to buy a bag of feed. Be careful of the llama's breath. It will knock you out!

We love taking our 2 year old to the farm. It is well kept and clean. You can buy food to give to the animals. The playground is nice too!

We LOVED this place. Family friendly and doesn't cost anything. We came from Indianapolis, Indiana and will be back to visit. The kids and us really couldn't get enough. What a great place. Excellent job

Great place to spend some time with the kids. Lots of local wildlife here. If you are into Geocaching there are a couple here

This is a great place to spend the better portion of a day. Feed and pet the animals, bring a picnic lunch, and let the kids play on the playground too! This is a great place to go for families and play date meetups. We really like it.

very nice place for a family outing especially for the younger children. Petting zoo good, free access which families always appreciate and the playground kept the younger kids entertained.
The movie night on Tuesday was a hit with the grandkids. N ot sure they are doing it this year, but it was great fun last year.

There are a lot of animals to see here. Some, like the peacock and peahen roam about freely while others like the birds are in large cages. There’s also emus , llamas and donkeys that you can feed( there are pet food vending machines on site). Great for kids and adults.

Visited Bluebird Gap Farm with children and grandchildren. Such a nice spot to see typical, and some unusual farm animals. Pellets for sale to feed the sheep, goats, llamas. Playground for any that get bored before others finish.Fun place.

First off, I really really wish I had a place like this closer to home. I'd visit way more frequently. But when we do get out there we always have a great time. It has a great playground area for kids and of course the main attraction being the animals. Everyone in the family loves petting and feeding all the various animals (well except the ones they don't allow you to feed) and we all have our favorites.

I haven't been to Blue Bird Gap Farm in years, but when i took my nephews, ages 7 and 10, they had an awesome time. Now its not a big zoo, but they loved it anyways, being able to touch the animals and even feed some of them. I'll be sure to visit again with not so many years in between visits.

Admission is free! (yay!) the animals are well cared for, and the variety of animals to view and/or interact with is (almost) impressive for a city run attraction. Showing up in the spring is beautiful, and the farm workers bring out the various baby animals for people to see. The people working at the farm are knowledgeable, and friendly. There are places to picnic, and old barn with farm implements from days gone by (and lots of signs, so you can answer the kids questions about 'what is that?") Some of the animals can be fed with handfuls of feed purchased from the 'bubblegum' type vending machines, but it is a peaceful, beautiful place to get back to nature and the old days of farming that are slowly disappearing from our landscape. Plan to do a little walking to see everything (well marked trails, and maps available) handicapped accessible.

Your family will love this place. Bring a picnic lunch or use one of their grills, room permitting. There are happenings all the time - like hayrides and movies.

Love this little farm. Nice place to take the kiddies, young and old. It's free and lovingly taken care of. Employees are very friendly and will answer any questions you might have about the place. I've been taking my girls there when they were little and now the grandchildren are enjoying the farm. Don't expect a bunch of 'bells and whistles'. Not very large. It really represents what life would be like on a farm, different animals and small gardens. Nice place for the children run and enjoy for a day.

This place is very relaxing giving you a farm feel. The animals are so gentle and well behaved that you would want to pet them again and again esp the goats and cows. You got to be little careful with the emu birds and the Lamas as they can attack suddenly while appearing normal a second ago. You can feed the emu birds as well. You will see peacocks moving around freely so you can click pictures with them in the open.

We took our two year old grandson and he loved it! Lots of animals and birds to see. Don’t go expecting a zoo but for free it is definitely worth the time. We will visit again!

My granddaughter loved seeing the animals. you can get up close and she was able to pet most of them. she also loved playing on the playground.

I know Bluebird Gap Farm in its new form has been open for awhile, but this was the first time I had both desire and time to check it out. The new entrance is much better and the parking lot is totally paved and expanded. All in all the park looks a lot more spruced up then it was, but I did note a few things which concerned me. The first is that despite wandering over most of the park and spending some time, I failed to see a single uniformed ranger, despite the large number of visitors. Next, I found that both the duck pond and the large open pond were gone, but there seem to be a whole lot more swings and things for the kids. So instead of ten or so different kinds of ducks, I saw one male mallard and two Canadian geese, but someting like four swing sets. If this is supposed to be a farm, how come there are a large number of non-native animals from Australia and Africa, yet I saw exactly one rabbit. The master gardener garden is in fine shape, but the old tractors are still rust buckets. While I'm not sure of its exact connection to a farm, the C&O Railway shed still on the property is still neglected and falling into ruin despite the park being given information years ago as to how to spruce it up.
So some nice stuff, but some stuff to question.

This place is really a hidden gem. The play area is awesome. My daughter love feeding the goats. You Will need some pocket change to get feed for the animsls and they don't normally serve food here but we have on several occasions grabbed some take out food and sat close to the animals. We enjoy taking in the farm feeling atmoshere. I know that farms seem to be disappearing at higher rates as we make our cites bigger but it's nice to have a place like this hidden in the middle of the city. Really enjoy our visits here.

My husband and I took our grandkids here (ages 18 months and 3 years), and they loved it. They liked seeing the animals, running around, and playing on the playground.

People say this place is great but I just don't see it honestly. The animals are fun too look at but whenever I go I just can't get over the smell!! It absolutely stinks so bad it's suffocating it's terrible and unbearable and don't even think about coming on a windy day..They have a small playground which is good for kids and all but this place just isn't for me .

I started taking my daughter there in 1974 and have taken all my grandchildren there. It is one of the best kept secrets in Hampton. Wonderful playground, petting zoo. Wonderful place for parties and picnics.

great place. went on a Sunday in February. Never been before. Lots of livestock, a playground, and gardens.

This place is a gem, tucked away in an area near the convention center and almost totally secluded. An assortment of large and small animals for petting (and some for feeding). Much better than the local zoos, and also completely free. Great place for kids and adults. Much bigger then it looks upon entering. Plenty of parking.

This was a nice place. I went with my 11yr old nephew and 9 year old son. They have a lot of fun animals to look at. Goats, chickens. Even had peacocks running arround the play yard. The kids loved the white one. The playground it self is fantastic. We had a great time. Could of stayed all day if it wasn't so cold. Best yet is it is free!

its a great place for ant 1 any time.its quiet.a great place to just relax.take the kids or alone.wheel chair ex.

What a wonderful place! You will feel like you're at a zoo without paying for being at the zoo. They have a wide variety of animals from peacocks to horses! A very family friendly place! Children can interact and feed the animals. Take a picnic lunch and have a great family afternoon! The price is free with an opportunity to donate iv you wish.

great place to take the kids to play, picnic and see the animals. you can buy feed for them and see alot of farm animals up close and personal, as well as a beautiful garden of flowers in the spring and summer its been around for years and keeps getting better

Nice touch with the movies and you can have a picnic under a shelter by the playground for a simple get together.

great park to take children and look at the animals. Places to picnic and food to feed animals available for purchase. Bathroom facilities onsite. Sometimes schools have field trips here but it doesn't seem terribly crowded even on those days.

A great place for the kids. A petting farm, a playground a very nice garden and farm equipment. A kids dream!

I was visiting and took my little grandson for his first visit. It definitely won't be his last. The animals are well cared for. On a hot day, they had shade, water, fans and no smells whatsoever. Plenty of hand sanitizer stations.
This is a great Park with a pavilion, picnic area, barnyard animals, equipment, playground and areas for kids to run. His parents had no idea this park was about a mile from their home.

Great for families who want to enjoy a picnic, party, playground, and farm animals. Great for couples, too, who want to have a day of fun.
It's a nice sanctuary amidst the suburbs of Hampton so it's like a tranquil, country like escape.
I keep track of them on their Facebook page because they schedule events and activities.

It's that feel at home feeling when you visit this farm. The kids feel like a real farm with real animals.

Since we are animal lovers, this was as fun trip for us. The animals were cute and it was fun to play peek-a-boo with the ostrichs

Found this place using Trip Advisor and stopped by to check it out. For a free place you get a lot. Playground for kids, petting zoo, walking trail, covered picnic tables and open spaces. This is a great place to have a kid's party. We enjoyed petting the animals and just feeling like we were in the county. Wish there was food to feed the animals.

There are farm animals (we got to see and pet little goats) and a playground. Picnic area in a shade of trees. Parking is available. Entrance at no charge. Great place for children!

I love taking my nephews here. The last time I was there the horses were gone but we had a great time and the kids love to feed the animals. I do wish they were stricter about people smoking in the park.

This is a nice place to take kids. Lots of animals and a nice playground. Its also free and you cant beat free!

Visiting family in the area we were looking for something fun and free to do...my Aunt took us to Bluebird Gap Farm. It was neat to see some of the appliances and tools from the yesteryears. There was a botanical garden and it was fun to watch all the bees (various varieties) collecting nectar from flower to flower. From a goat to cows to chickens and hawk to the peacocks that were beautiful and the amount of animals they have was wonderful. Data is their horse that they said was close to 90 in human years and his girlfriend Mayflower made a cute couple. They have a nice picnic area and playground for the kids and restrooms too! I would definitely recommend the experience.

The farm is setup so nicely with walk ways, and the animals are kept in their own spaces, clean and very nicely kept. Great free thing to do with kids.

We took our kids there when they were small and now we take our grandchildren. Past and future memories.

Always a great place to take your family and free still after all these years. They feed the animals and keep up the place with donations. They have a nice play yard for children. I used to take my children there when they were little.

Everyone that has grown up on the VA Peninsula has been to Bluebird Gap Farm at least once, more likely multiple times, on a school field trip. In an area where trees are getting harder and harder to find, Bluebird Gap is a welcome patch of greenery. Here you and your children can get close to (and feed and pet) different animals, some your everyday farm animals and some more exotic. You can walk trails through woods and along creeks. There is also a well equipped playground. For children it's a great place to learn about the animals. For adults it's a great place to relax, and one of the best picnic sites around. It's a part of growing up for locals and a great place to visit for "visitors".

I went there with my son's preschool class and the little ones had a blast! The variety of animals is really awesome and there's even a big playground for the kids. The farm is maintained beautifully. I definitely think this is worth a day trip for parents with small kids.

This was not a true petting zoo. Our grandson was scared of most of the animals. You basically just walked around and looked at the animals. I guess it wasn’t bad for being free.

A place I can escape to and enjoy the animals. It's a plus when I have my grands because it is very affordable.

Went with my grandson go every year to enjoy the animals like horses, roosters, cows, birds, lama & goats just to name a few. Also had a pumpkin patch pick own for $1. Had a hay maze for the kids to run though plus vendors were out there even things to purchase for adults & drinks as well. Food like kettle popcorn, festival corn cob, shave ice, pretzels etc...even live band so Awesome the Fall Festival!😉

Our children (ages 4 & 5) loved it. Admission is free. There were ducks, emus, chickens, goats, horses, llamas, sheep, and more. They were able to feed the goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and geese and pet the goats, sheep, and a horse. Feed is 25¢ a handful so bring quarters. There's a nice playground and picnic shelter there also. This is a definite must-see place for families.

I have been several times to the farm and as an adult enjoyed seeing the children I was with and other children enjoy themself.

My family typically comes here for the kids. There is really no other reason. One of my favorite events is in October when you can pick a pumpkin, do a hay ride, pumpkin chunking and a few other things. It's fun for adults and kids plus the kids love the animals!

I go to The Blue Bird Gap Farm several times a year. My family and I have been going there for over 20 years. I am an avid photographer and there are so many wild and domestic animals to see and photograph here. I take my Grand-daughter too, she LOVES it. They have horses, cows, goats, chickens, pigs, donkey, turkey, peacock, various wild bird species and tortoise to be seen being cared for on the property. There is a petting zoo and the animals are very friendly but you might want to purchase some of the feed that they sell to have them stick around near you, otherwise they move on to the next person who might have purchased a bag of kibble to feed them with. The animal food is the only thing there that you have to pay for, if you wish, they do have a couple of soda and snack machines in one of the buildings by the barn. There is a fenced in pond area where there are various types of waterfowl to see. There are a few picnic tables around the farm and they feature a big covered pavilion with 18 picnic tables and a large charcoal grill for large gatherings like Birthday parties right next to the play ground. The playground is pretty good sized, for kids of all ages. They have new bathroom facilities for all. A good amount of parking. Parking is FREE.
It is a very nice, family place that will keep the toddlers to pre-teens happy. They are closed on Mondays.

This is a basic see and feed the animals for young children. The park mainly contains a variety of birds and some farm animals. Touching in some areas is ok. benches and tables are available for snack breaks and lunches. It is a continuous destination for young kindergarten and elementary schoolers. A nice place to learn about wildlife in an easy walkable setting,

A great place to walk around. Even better if you have kids. There are even some short hiking trails. It is operated by Hampton's Parks & Recreation.

We have been coming to this city farm for over 22 years. Its evolved into a great display of farm animals and their friends. Thanks to BBGF I saw my very first Bobwhite. And the turtle sanctuary that was just built by an Eagle Scout looks great! The playground is well kept and has always entertained them for hours. Its difficult to find staff if you need help. I like feeding the animals with the treats from the machines. They have auto coin operated feeders for $1 a turn (like those gumball machines) and the goats go ga-ga for them. The vegetables garden is so beautiful and healthy. Theres lots of places to sit and chill. It's a definite gem!

The new and improved Blue Bird is a great place to take the kids. From the animals, to the park this place has it all. There is a huge playground, places to eat your lunch, many animals to see and pet, and you can even feed some. There is a garden that you can walk through and a place to sit and read. Some magazines are provided. Grest photo opportunities and some beautiful animals. Awesome FREE experience for the family.

This place is like a mini farm. Lots of various animals that you can pet. Also picnic area as well as play area. You can also feed some of the animals as well. Overall a great place for the kids to burn off energy.

I grew up in Hampton and though I have moved many times this is a staple of places to visit with me an my family (now Grands) - Safe and clean - great place!!!

We had an AMAZING time at Bluebird Gap. We enjoyed seeing all the animals. There was a vending machine with bags of animal feed for $1. The is a playground and picnic tables. Definitely a nice way to spend time with friends, family, or significant others! We will indeed be back!!

This was a great place to take my grandchildren for a nice couple of hours to feed the animals, play on the playground and enjoy the flower garden.

pack a lunch and kill an afternoon without killing your budget. the peacocks are the starts of the park.

We were visiting family in the area and they suggested the place. I was shocked that it was free. They had a large playground for the kids and lots of different animals. The gardens could have used some TLC but considering the place is run by volunteers I totally get it. I thought this was a great way to get the kids outside and moving around. There are several hotels in the area this would be a perfect stop after being in the car for a few hours or before you hit the road. The large turtles and peacock were our favorites!

Fun time for the kids and adults. Nice playground, nature trail and animals. Pack a picnic lunch. Enjoyable free afternoon.

And to play and run around. It's a park and a playground but the main attraction are the animals. All the usual farm animals plus llamas, emus, and a few more exotics. Vending machines sold food the kids could feed the animals. Even the llamada were receptive and willing/eager to be fed. Our 2 year old and almost five year old grandkids loved it.

For a $1 you can purchase a bag of feed pellets to feed the goats, cows and various other animals. My daughter was especially thrilled with the peacocks they had running around.

Nice park, animals are well cared for. However, tour guides would be nice for groups. The staff is not friendly and they grunt at you when you speak to them.

took my 14year old grandson and we ended up closing the place down he enjoyed feeding and touching the animals and free cannot beat that have picnic tables and playground also

The description that I found was, this is a "public city park and petting zoo." Public city park, yes; petting zoo, not really.
When our college-age grandson suggested we pay a visit, I was thinking this is just for little kids (for sure, the nice playground was). Nope, we adults enjoyed the visit quite a lot. Yes, the animals are farm animals (this is not a zoo). We particularly enjoyed the Arboretum. There is a picnic shelter, that I believe can be reserved.

If you have a disability & have a service dog stay away from this park. I have PTSD & a trained service dog to help prevent panic/anxiety attacks & support me if one does occur. I was approached twice by employees in the park. The first woman just asked me politely & then said enjoy your time. The second man who approached me had no understanding of psychiatric service dogs & asked me to leave. Employees should have better training.

This is a free place to take kids and see farm animals. It is moderately sized, and has a good mix... chickens, pigs, horses. Also has peacocks and geese, so you need to watch where everyone is walking in some areas. There is a barn and outside grazing areas. We saw llamas and big turtles, as well as field birds in aviaries... including an owl along a walking trail off to the side. They have a bit of a playground and typical park restrooms. It was worth taking the little ones to see the animals, although more of a park than farm these days.

Terrific for anyone, singles, couples, and families. For over 50 years, Blue Bird Gap Farm has been a great getaway for anyone who appreciates animals. You'll find everything here, from the most gorgeous peacocks and peahens, to horses, cows, pigs and birds.
Admission is free, though donations are accepted. Plan to spend several hours and to explore the walking trails, which take you out to the pond area and even the beehives. This is a true gem of Hampton, something you just do not find in any other big city.
It's a can't miss.

great place to take your little one, they can get up close and personal and there is a nice little playground

Nestled in Hampton they have interesting exhibits an albino peacock, cows, horses. Great playground. You can feed the animals by purchasing feed from the (gumball )machines

This is one of my 5 year old sons favorite places to visit. If you ask him what he would like to do, (on any given day) going to Bluebird Gap Farm is always one of the 3 most common answers. Bluebird Gap Farm is a petting zoo, admission is free, they have two large playgrounds (a smaller one for toddlers and a larger one for the "older kids") picnic areas, vending machines if you get thirsty or need a snack. Its just a fun way to spend a couple hours with the kids or grandkids.

This is a great little park for little ones...there are rabbits, deer and peacocks as well as other animals. There is a nice playground onsite that is visited by many families on the weekend. The best part is that it’s all free!

Nive fun place for younger children. To see the animals and touch them too! Very friendly staff! My Children always enjoyed the visit!

The farm is located very near to the center of Hampton (Coliseum and Peninsula Town Center (Shopping). The farm has many animals (cows, deer, goats, turkeys, chickens, peacocks), and new playground area for children, picnic tables and an arboretum of plants. It's a great place to take children for both fun and education. You and your family will enjoy. Entrance is across the street from Bass Pro Shop. Easy to get to, great parking and clean facility.

It's so nice to have such a clean and great place so close to home. I love to bring my kids here. Great for a young family on a tight budget as it's free :)

BBGF is an excellent place to go for all ages! We frequent this park all the time, in all seasons! We have even had a few parties here. The new enclosures for the birds is amazing, and I love the new entrance to the parking lot, much safer!

We discovered this gem while visiting relatives in Hampton. It's a full scale farm with garden and playground located minutes from downtown! Best of all it was free!
We enjoyed looking at and petting the animals including: Horses, sheep and goats as well as llamas and alpacas. The farm has a variety of exotic animals as well. My youngest particularly enjoyed following a peacock around for awhile.
The playground is huge and well maintained. We enjoyed the swings, monkey bars and slides the best and found the grounds suitable for a spirited game of Hide and Seek. There are a few outbuildings and sheltered areas as well in the event of rain.

What a great free stop for kiddos! Small parking lot but great location near bass pro this gem is tucked away off of a main road. You can pay to feed the animals if you'd like and they have a playground so that the kiddos can get their energy out. Pack a picnic and really enjoy the afternoon, did I mention it's free? Yay!

We've been here bunches of times with the grandkids and we always have fun. There are all sorts of different animals from farm animals to wild animals. There's even an opportunity to feed them! Don't miss the rabbit/turtle exhibit to the right, just past the playground.

While visiting our kids in Hampton VA a couple of weeks ago, we celebrated our granddaughter's first birthday here under a covered pavilion. It's free so it's first come first serve so my step son had to go early to reserve the site and decorate it. There are no balloons allowed to protect the animals that they have on the farm. Upon entering the farm there is an amazing playground on a bed of mulch. It's HUGE! There is food that you can buy to feed the animals and gardens you can stroll through. Be sure and visit the gift shop as this is the way they're able to keep Bluebird Gap Farm free for everyone (besides donations). I believe the animals are all rescue animals that are rehabilitating. We saw one goose with broken wings. Oh and while we were there, the restrooms were stocked with toilet paper and fairly clean. I can tell they really try to keep the place clean and presentable.

You can buy food for $1 to feed the animals so it's worth it! Animals are gentle and friendly-even for the littles. There's a great park/picnic area too and restrooms on site/free parking. There's no admission fee which is awesome!

Very disappointed in our visit to Bluebird Gap Farm to say the least!! We were very disappointed that there were only two cows, two lamas, three horses, a tortoise, one Red Tailed Hawk, several goats, some peacocks, and some sheep to see. There may be a few other animals, but very few in total. Alot of the area and sites are vacant and nothing to see. The garden area was super nice, but the rest was a waste of time. This place has great potential, but poorly managed. To put it all in perspective, there was a school visiting the farm while we were and all the kids were in the playground area and not visiting the animals.

Great place for city children to be exposed to farm life.

What a WONDERFUL place to stop by! Free to get in, they have a box for donations in the antique shed, with history of the farm. A garden area, animals you can buy feed from a vending machine to feed, and a large playground area for the kids. The kids had a blast feeding the animals and seeing the peacocks running around. Great place with history! I always support places like this as it is truly a place meant to be enjoyed.

Something between a petting zoo, a playground and a gathering place for locals. This place definitely deserves a visit.

Fun location to have play dates. Sometimes they have wagon rides too.

This place is like going back in time when you can find a rural farm on the outskirts of the city, where you can just bring the kids to relax, have some old-fashioned fun, and see the animals. It is an oasis in the middle of our every-day busy lives.

I hadn't been to Bluebird Gap Farm since I was little kid on a field trip, now that I have a grandson I decided this would b a good time to introduce him to farm animals up close and personal. All I can say is Wow, we had a great time on Mother's day. Many animals were close enough for him to touch and the Peacocks were a hoot. Thank you so much for a lovely time with my children and Grandson.

There are not many places you can go to with kids and have a terrific time. This is the place! Picnic Tables Playgtound,Nice people very cool animals-I mean where else can you see a Peacock?. Great for kids from Toddler age to 10. (Before they get hooked on Video games. Hampton's weather usually co-operates, and there is plenty of shade in the summer, but on a Spring or Fall day with the temperatures in the 70's it is just perfect! So pack a lunch basket, grab the kids and have fun!

Well kept farm with many different displays. Birds , turkeys, lamas, deer, goats, peacocks and many more.

Best animal farm in the area of Hampton / Newport News. It's been around for years but it has always been a joy to visit with my children now my grandchildren. The animals are all healthy and wonderful to watch , some to pet, some to feed and always the kids play in the play ground after visiting the animals.

Free , no parking fees and just a nice place to visit

Wonderful for infants in strollers, active prescoolers., and curious and busy elementary children. A working farm, many picnic tables, age appropriate playgrounds, and a stage for warm weather presentations. Farm animals to visit, farm equipment to see and a beautiful garden to walk through.

The first time I went was for a child's birthday party last year. My alumni association usually has our annual cookouts here but it was scheduled during the time Florence was expected so we cancelled until the Spring. The shelters are adequate as are the grills. The children loved being able to pet the animals. I've been several times since just to hang out and enjoy the weather.

It was a nice place right behind Bass Pro Shops. It was so hot when we went, that it was miserable. The concession booth wasn’t open, or we probably would have stayed longer. The animals were beautiful, and the kids loved getting close and the nice big play area.

Bluebird Gap Farm is a wonderful family destination. Picnic, party, playground fun & farm animals are kid/family favorite activities.

All the animals, my grandaughter lived it, and the play ground was a big hit with her.

We try to take the grandkids here on each visit. Just enough to see and do with preschoolers. A good variety of animals and pleasant grounds. Sometimes there are also special events, so check their calendar.

Since the Peninsula area does not have a real zoo this is a great place to take young children to experience some animals. There is a playground area and places to picnic. It is not large enough to make a day of it but certainly a nice few hours excursion.

Excellent experience for young children. Animals are accessible, friendly and chldren will enjoy the property.

We enjoyed taking our young ones here. Free wagon rides, petting zoo, playground and picnic area.
Free entry and a great park to go to for a few hours as a family.

We went here for my nieces baby shower and were horrified at the conditions of the animals enclosures, many of the animals appeared stressed because thy didn’t have much room to roam around. The deer pen wasn’t much larger than a walk-in closet. I will never go here again.

A local favorite that I never would have known about had it not been for meeting a nanny who took kids there. Our son loved it when he was there at about ages 3, 4 and 5. Truthfully, I had fun too and not even going to admit to my age. Fun for all.

From cows to horses to sheep, but the peacocks are unforgettable. They strut around doing their presentation like they own the place. There are also a couple short hiking trails.

Bluebird Gap Farm is a nice petting zoo and is a gem of a city park. There are several animals to pet and view. There is also a large playground for the kids to burn off some energy.

Enjoyed this when the kiddies were in elementary school...they're in their late 20's and 30's now...grandkids some day?

Great place for kids! They have apetting zoo and during the summer months they place outdoor movies in the evening. A great time to pull out your picnic blankets and baskets and have a nice free night out!

This farm is operated by the city of Hampton. There are deer, peacocks, rabbits, wolves, chickens, ducks, cows, horses, goats and more. This is not a zoo; it is a sanctuary for animals that would not survive on their own. It is free. There is a playground. There are programs during the warm months for the children (hay rides, puppets, book readings, magic, etc.) It is a perfect size for an enjoyable visit. You can easily see everything in less than an hour but most folks stay longer to savor the relaxation and let the children take their time exploring.

Great place to spend time with kids. It's always clean and the animals seem to be well treated. There aren't many places that are free!

We were visiting our daughter & grandson in April and we came here for an afternoon. This was such an amazing little farm which has chickens, turkeys, goats, lamas, bunnies, horses, ducks, turtles not to mention plants and some antiques! It even has an amazing play area with slides & swings for toddlers to bigger kids. What a gem for a quick play day & the amazing part is it is free! Donations are taken so hopefully folks do donate something when visiting this amazing little farm.

Great destination for animal
Lovers and nature lovers! Great park elements for kids..and they can learn about nature!

We stopped in here between 2 shows at the Hampton Colliseum. It was nice enough with a playground for the kids and assorted farm animals. The gardens were pretty. We did not walk the nature trail. Other than the noise from the interstate it was an enjoyable couple of hours.

My daughter and I have taken her daughters to this farm several times. The girls always seem to enjoy their visit. Although not a lot of animals, the girls had fun.

It was very quite and peaceful place. But, i recommed this place for kids. Its a perfect a day's outing for them. They have very nice collection of Antique farmer tools. You will get amazed to see that. Free admission so, everyone can visit here.

Not only is it educational but they have a playground too! You can rent shelters for picnics, and they also offer all kinds of events, such as hayrides etc. So glad it's close by!
Thank you!

It is fun to be there to see the animals, watch the beautiful male peacocks impress you with their fanned tails, laugh at the goats climbing on whatever is there to climb on, see the learning garden in the Master Garden Arboreatum, watch the kids have fun, see the families together. The Hampton City Council needs to recognize the educational and enjoyable value of The Farm that often has several hundred people a day there three seasons of the year. It is the only place of its kind in the Peninsula area; it is a treasure.

Great free attraction. If you have a little one this is not to be missed. Our son loves birds and had a great time seeing peacocks, chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducks up close. He also enjoyed the deer, goats, cows, sheep, donkey, and horses. They have a nice picnic area as well as a nice playground area. There was lots of area for him to run and get out his wiggles. He napped for hours after exploring Bluebird Gap Farm.

I like bringing my children out here to be free to run around as well as see animals and get to experience the garden. I love to walk around the garden and see how much the park continues to grow. I think this is a great place to take a load off for a few and enjoy the breeze.

I am a Virginia resident and I love this place for my kids. They get to interact with real farm animals. This is just great outdoor fun. Love it!

I have really come to enjoy visiting Bluebird Gap Farm with my wife and three year old daughter. The farm animals are something that kids from the city just don't get to experience very often (and especially for free). The playground is very nice as well. I've never been there when the park was nicely manicured and clean. We also recently discovered that there are a few hiking trails that exist that are a fun short walk. All in all a great hour or two spent outside!!!

A relative mentioned this park after we had been housebound with a 2 year old grandson due to extreme heat. We went later in the afternoon. Several of the animal groups were in shelters and offered us a respite from the sun as did the covered picnic table area. The tortoises surprised us by coming out the their shelter and poking their heads through the fence for attention.
The playground was good for wearing off excess energy!

On my last visit to Bluebird Gap Farm, I was pleasantly surprised at how much it reminded me of my childhood. All of the incredible animals, petting zoo, places for children to play ... It is fabulous ! It was such a pleasure visiting the farm and it put a smile on my face watching my 2 year old great niece experience the animals for the first time. She was absolutely enthralled. I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer, because I’ll definitely be back !!

We were traveling with 3 kids and needed to stop to eat our packed lunches and stretch our legs. What a wonderful place. Free, clean bathrooms, picnic tables, great playground, and lots of animals. the kids loved it. Don't miss the large turtles!
I loved the animals
Great for kids! Can take a lunch for picnic. Like the farm animals and leasurely stroll around grounds.
