Public Garden

By Agnes G |

I visted Boston in Dec during show storms with lots of know coverage. I did not know that locals sled in this park when snow is present.

A walk in the park

By Andres72423 |

Beautiful park and gardens. Plenty of space for people to take a stroll or just sit at a park bench and catch the sites. Many people just laying out and enjoying the weather and sun.

Absolutely beautiful

Absolutely beautiful place to take a walk or sit and relax. Definitely take the time to relax and check this place out.

Center of Boston

By Charlotte D |

You do need to temper your expectations a bit in terms of the garden part because this is Boston. It gets cold in the winter! You won't regret coming, though. This is right in the heart of Boston and in the center of the community. There are fun little paths and fountains. You are right near the T. The whole area is great to walk around in. I'm always happy when I have a chance to come through here. I've even had fun in the winter here, although I wouldn't suggest that to a visitor.

Absolutely beautiful!

By Tammy M |

The Boston Public Garden is a beautiful area to walk around. It is peaceful and is filled with stunning flowers and trees. There is a pond with swan boats you can ride in. If you can, take a break from touring to spend some time here.

Beautiful walking and relaxing around the pond.

By Michael G |

We were looking for a parking spot to go to Cheer's and found this gem by accident after parking on the opposite side. Nice trails and people just out enjoying the day. Squirrels everywhere and a few ducks in the lagoon.

Beautiful!!!

By Michael M |

I couldn't help but notice how incredible the grounds are maintained. The Public Gardens are definitely more picturesque than the Commons but that is not a dig at the Commons at all. The commons is very welcoming and you will watch dogs, runners, people on their way to work, and some taking in the day on a public bench. Overall I think the Public Gardens and the Commons are both worth the walk through and taking in the greenery!

Boston Public Garden

By RayGCincinnati_OH |

This was the first public botanical garden in America. The flora is attractive and it's a nice walk thru the Garden. Of course, they have Swan Boats! The boats take you on a pleasant ride around the lagoon.

Lovely Park

By copejenney |

Great walking and beautifully landscaped. Be sure to find the duckling statutes! Not crowded and nice place to walk around in the Back Bay.

Beautiful

By Hoover |

Such a beautiful spot to get away from the craziness of Boston. Loved being on the bridge and seeing nature. It would be a great spot for pictures!

Very nice place

By Traveller |

My wife, daughter, two friends and I walked around the Boston Public Garden and I went back two more times by myself in November 2021. It is a beautiful place. There is a foot bridge over a pond. Since I have walked around here during the spring and summer there are flowers and swan boats. But not during the fall. Besides the foot bridge and the pond, there are many benches where you can sit and relax. And there is also a statue of George Washington on a horse. The Boston Public Garden leads out to Commonwealth Avenue, Newbury Street and Boylston Avenue and Back Bay. In the other direction it leads out to Boston Common.

Loved the snow

By Jennifer J |

What an absolute BLAST we had here in the snow!! Lots of people out enjoying the day and night! Snowden/snowball fights.... running around with the kids

Nice Park

By PBPG |

A large open area in Downtown Boston. Mostly grass and paths, some flower beds and a large lagoon in the centre. At least you get the feeling of fresh air!

Family Holiday

By Gillian F |

The perfect place to sit down and rest your 'freedom trail' weary feet. Once you have been to the Granary Burial grounds head across the fence to the Public Garden. We went on the Swan boats (which was really peaceful and pleasant) and saw lots of Ducks and Geese and then once we sat down to eat our snacks my daughter made friends with so many Squirrels and birds it was like she was in a Disney film! The trees are labelled with the name of their species and the gardens were really well looked after and maintained. That evening we returned to watch an outdoor production of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' which started just as the sun started to go down. I would recommend you take a folding deck chair if you plan to do this as the ground did get a bit cool as the night went on. As the gardens are quite central we returned another few times during our stay and enjoyed the kids splash pond and the space to move about.

Green Walking

A great lung of the city with amazing landscape and monuments. Great neighbourhood with majestic buildings, mansions and churches. Only for walkers just in case....

Boston Garden

By Minoolifediary |

If I visit Boston again, I’d like that to be in fall again specially early fall maybe in October or September just to be able to enjoy Boston’s colorful fall. If you live in California you know why I’d choose that time.
One fun thing that I recommend doing is to go to Boston public garden in fall and lay over the fallen leaves and just enjoy looking at the sky, I’m sure you’ll feel great after that.
One of the other tips that I learned traveling to different places is to take your time and don’t rush going from one location to the other cause you really can’t make the memory of that place stick to your mind and all you remember is being tired and nothing more.
The ducks were my favorite they’re so cute and so popular among the kids.

walkabout

By Ali68Kent |

Beautiful gardens to have a lovely stroll brisk walk or even a run
Will definitely visit again when in Boston

Flowers in spring

By Graciela P |

Charming place, a public park with a variety of flowers (tulips of all colors carefully located in stonemasons that make a beautiful contrast) with many trees and shaded benches to rest and relax looking at the beauty of their flowers or the squirrels that move freely. The day I went (spring) a lady threw nuts and squirrels swirled next to her looking for food. A very tender show. Clean and caring. Pleasure to find such a place in the middle of town.

It's no Central Park

By Stephen Andert |

It is a nice area and having the ice skating rink in the winter is cool. However, other than a nice place to go for a walk or a run, not a "must see" in my book.

Swanning around

By Susan |

We had a ball here. We were staying in between the park and the river. Apparently this is the countries first botanical garden. Neat fact. We had a whale of a time on the swan boats. Lots of nice area to walk. Never felt busy despite being a sunny weekend,

Relaxing way to stretch one's legs.

By eliz375 |

There's a nice pond and some statues. Beware of the squirrels: people have fed them to the point that they've become quite bold and aggressive.

A large beautiful clean urban park

By Derrick Aw |

This is one of the more beautiful urban gardens I’ve been to. The area is huge, and very CLEAN. There are lots of benches (or you can just put a rug on the vast expanse of grass). Some interesting monuments and art installations notably look out for “The Embrace”. The park is divided into two portions separated by a road. On one side are lots of flower beds (mainly tulips, which are always pretty) and a lake with boat rides.

I popped by after lunch and sat and walked around, leisurely, for almost two hours. It’s nice, in this cool weather!!

Beautiful Place to Walk

By Ashlyne N |

The garden surpassed any expectation I had of them, the people of Boston are lucky to have such an amazing place to walk and hangout. I would recommend checking this area out if you’re travelling to Boston.

Beautiful Garden

By X101101 |

Beautiful green space in the city. Well designed and landscaped garden with tropical plants and beautiful flowers lining pathways. Majestic willow trees shade the bank of the pond. Definitely worth a look.7

Especially beautiful in the spring

By Charles B |

The public garden is a real gem in the middle of the city. It is well-maintained, and gorgeous, especially in spring and early summer, though it has plenty of charm year-round. It can get crowded on weekends, but it is almost always possible to find a secluded spot if you need some solace from the bustle of downtown. The swan boats are fun particularly for kids.

A large free park in the center of Boston

By Violette54 |

The Public Garden, also known as Boston Public Garden, is a large free park in the center of Boston, adjacent to Boston Common. It is another part of the Emerald Necklace system of parks, opening in 1837. The Public Garden, at 24 acres, was the first public botanical garden in America. Several statues are located throughout the Garden.
Our Tour Bus drove by this park and I snapped these photos.

Lovely little park

By Midnight2673 |

This is such a lovely little park hidden behind Boston common, it has a lake where in the summer swan boats are available. Unfortunately they had been put away for the winter, but there was plenty to walk round and see the brass Boston duck sculptures and the statue of George Washington. It was a beautiful day and you get some good angles of the city skyline too. Nice to sit in the sun and watch the world go by and just across the road is the cheers bar on Beacon Hill if you want to see it.

BEST Park in Boston

By Grover R |

The Boston Common gets most of the ink for its history, but the best park in the city is the Boston Public Garden. This 24 acre park was designed as a civic green space park with a 4 acre pond and true gardens unlike its neighbor, the Common. The park dates back to 1837 when the mud flats of the Back Bay were drained and converted to this public space amenity as the city began its expansion with a new neighborhood.

Unlike the Common which is really just common space, the Public Garden is a true garden/park with civic features like statues, pond, bridge and planned botanicals like trees and flower gardens. The best known feature is the pond with the famous Swan Boats. The is also a great bridge that spans the pond and is made for pictures. The children's story "Make Way for Ducklings" takes place here, so it is only appropriate the statue is here in the park as well. However, the most popular and photographed statue is also here, the one of George Washington on horseback with the backdrop of downtown behind. Unfortunately, there is construction around the statue, so the picture is blocked and not as clean. Still, it is a great site.

Our visit here included a Swan Boat ride and great pictures of the group in several areas of the park. We also got great photos of the statue and true Boston attraction. Make time on your Boston stay to visit the Public Garden. It is the BEST park in Boston and a MUST see.

WOW!!

By Rooindie |

A beautiful space, but the gardens were especially lovely - lots of variety over a large area. I took lots of pictures. Enjoyed the Washington and Ether monuments, too.

Picnic for 1

By Robyn G |

Simple. Beautiful gardens. A lot of squirrels LOL. Only adding that comment bc I need to have a min of 100 characters.

Beautiful!

By halmack811 |

We walked through Commonwealth Park and the Public Garden. They are well maintained with beautiful flowers, plants and trees - and some interesting sculptures.

Beautiful

By bev |

A lovely space, we were fortunate enough to see it on days of cold but bright sunshine and then snow covered, both as beautiful as each other

Beautiful garden

By Kathy M |

This garden is situated near to Boston Common but they are worlds apart in terms of beauty and serenity. This garden is meticulously maintained and the swan boats and ducklings really add to the charm and natural beauty of the place. I highly recommend it.

My favorite place!

By Marlene |

The Boston Public Garden is my favorite place to wind down after work and to spend some good time during summer. Its serene atmosphere, beautiful flowerbeds, and peaceful lagoon create a perfect escape from the city's hustle. The swan boats add a charming touch, and there's always a quiet bench to relax on. Whether enjoying a leisurely stroll or just soaking in the beauty, the garden is an ideal spot to chill.

Nice place amid city

By MAHMOUD ALKHALDI |

Beautiful on a nice sunny day!

We spend an hour just walking around and enjoying the views. It was pretty crowed but tolerable. Really peaceful and pleasant. Take the time to visit one of these public, well maintained gardens.

America's First Public Gardens!

By MKTBE |

Estaished in 1837, the Boston Public Gardens are America's first public botanical gardens. The area is absolutely beautiful! They are meticulously manicured with meandering pathways, over 600 varieties of trees, numerous flowers, a pond, an impressive statue of Paul Revere, and swan boats! We loved wandering through the gardens appreciating the calm & peace felt there!

“ Fun open Space “

By Alexandra Arrivillaga |

I come here a few times a year . It’s a great open space to spend time . During daylight hours and pretty safe and has a friendly vibe . I take my dog and it’s just as fun .

A delightful walk

By larryrneal2016 |

Took a walk after breakfast in this delightful garden. What a change from all the old buildings and new construction. As nice as it as in late April, it must be a delight in the summer.

Beautiful

By Alex F |

Nice, quiet, peaceful open place. Beautiful garden, meticulously arranged, water fountains and walkways to stroll around.

Perfect spring day

By Linda S |

No need to travel to DC to see cherry blossoms. Here you get all those+ tulips!! Sunny spring day. Parked in Tremont Commons lot. Maybe not best choice, as I had to wander north to find tulip gardens. We’ll worth the trip from RI.

Beautiful Area

By StephanieSelene |

If you are in Boston, you will want to come here. Just a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy nature. You will also enjoy the ducklings from Make way for ducklings.

Must go!

By Christina04 |

Yessss! This is a must do. It's beautiful - lovely place to lay down and read a book or just enjoy nature in the middle of the city. We went on the swan boat ride, which is nothing fancy, but we loved it. There is no reason not to go here - it's free, beautiful.

Beautiful!!!

By Heloisa Castelo |

The Public Garden is one of my favorite tourist attractions in Boston! It’s super pretty and nice!!!

Beauty in a concrete jungle

By darinyee |

There is no place more appropriate in a hustle and bustle city to acquire peace and serenity. Observe the beauty and breathe in the nature cleansed air from the trees, plants and greenery in the heart of the city.

Beautiful in the Rain

By Paige R |

I am not a gardener, but I appreciate plants and flowers. I LOVED the Garden! What picturesque settings available for some fabulous pictures, I would think. Unfortunately, I was traveling solo and only had my cell phone for a camera, but I would think this would be a photographer's paradise!

Even though I visited during a rainy day, I captured some great shots. I can't begin to think how breathtaking it must be in the springtime!

I missed the ducks everyone kept talking about. I saw the live ones in the water; I thought that was the hullaballoo; apparently there are actual bronze statues. Wish I would have realized that when I was there.

Magical Winter Wonderland

By MaryNelson |

We traveled to Boston between Christmas and New Years. Spent the late afternoon and early evening wandering around the area. The Garden was beautifully decorated and there were lots of people around. Would go definitely go back again.

Beautiful Gardens

By andyh67186334 |

IK walked through the Gardens on several occasions as I was staying near Copley Square. They are very quiet early morning, but become crowded during the day.
There are bridges, sculptures, ponds and wildlife to enjoy plus when I went the first signs of spring flowers and shrubs. A truly idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

A Great Place to Read a Book

By Lovestoread 1982 |

Boston has glorious green spaces. I took my book and read for a few hours on a lovely autumn day. I would highly recommend as a break from the touring.

Perfect Urban Oasis

By LexiV |

A beautiful park that is well worth anyone's time. You can ride on the swan boats for less than $5 each, and the line moves fast. There are statues of the ducks from Robert McCloskey's "Make Way for Ducklings." The scenery in general is quite beautiful as well. People have been enjoying this park for almost 200 years!

Lovely park

By 937liz |

Lovely park to walk through - check out the famous ducks in bronze - autumn colours nice and plenty of squirrels around. We saw a bride having photos and lots of families out

Wonderful stroll on a weekend summer day

By 2020worldtraveler2020 |

Love the Common, so expansive and a great place to walk with the family. Make sure to see the duck parade statues!

sad to see the decline

By eileen c |

Its been a long time since I was here. We went here to go to the information booth but it had closed at 3:00 on Saturday. We were hoping to catch a tour from here, but they no longer meet near the commons. The park was overrun with homeless people, some even sleeping on the lawn and benches. The park is still beautiful and the paths were full of people out enjoying the day, but it was sad to see that it wasn't clean and parts of it were scary to walk through. The swan boats were also not running due to covid. Many people didn't have their masks on either.

Lovely Park

By CMTravels 🌄 |

Beautiful park for a stroll through, lots of lovely trees and flowers in bloom and loved the duck statues so cute.
Lots of ducks and squirrels roaming around that were fun to watch.
The lake with the swan boats looked like a fun activity for the summer.

Beautiful

By Haley L |

If you are in Boston do not let this park pass you by. Take the time to walk through it and take in the beauty of the surrounding areas.

A Lovely Stroll

By tracysJ4069BK |

Even in the winter, this garden is something to see. While at the time of year it was definitely not beautiful in the traditional sense of a garden (no flowers at the end of December), it was still well maintained and clean. If the weather cooperated be sure to take some time to explore this garden.

Lovely park

By Mikhael DH |

Lovely park right in the middle of the city of Boston. Much nicer than Boston Common, worth going there before starting the Freedom Trail. The lake in the middle of the park is full of animals and surrounded by benches.

Winter Wonderland

By Clara D |

We visited in the middle of winter so snow was on the ground and the lakes were frozen. It was still so beautiful. The paths were very well maintained and so it was easy to go for an outdoor run even in -9C weather! Also very clean. Loved watching people playing ice hockey and just generally wandering round and watching the world go by.

Good park

By Ander_MS |

Nice and safe place, easily accessible by metro for those in other regions of the city, and from there you can go to other points of interest in the region.

Beautiful

By RJTO |

Located at the west end of the Boston Common the Public Garden is really beautiful with plants for every taste. A lovely place to stroll on the way to Back Bay or Old Boston.

Won’t Awaken Your Inner Horticluturist….

By blackeldo |

...BUT IT STILL IS A PRETTY PLEASANT PLACE TO SPEND TIME.

Here’s the thing, if you go to BOSTON PUBLIC GARDEN expecting it to be that city’s version of the KEW ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS with fabulously maintained flowerbeds and rows of hot houses, you may be a tad disappointed.
What we have here is more like a park, with plenty of open space for visitors to enjoy. But there are enough roses, bulbs, flowering shrubs and trees to please plant lovers and enough other attractions (a bridged lake with water birds + swan boat trips, no shortage of chipmunks, statues and memorials) to keep visitors happy.

TIPS
- this area is not large or time consuming. At abt 450mx250, I spent around an hour leisurely checking the whole thing, including a ride in a cheesy swan boat**. But as a base for a leisurely picnic, or if you are into plants and critters, you could spend much longer.
- Access is easy. The gardens are just east of central BOSTON (maybe a half mile) and immediately across CHARLES ST from BOSTON COMMON** (I initially thought the area an extension of the COMMON). 4 minutes stroll gets you from BOYLSTON ST subway.

A good place to enjoy the Boston Skyline

By photoguywisconsin |

The Boston Public Garden is a lovely place to enjoy the Boston skyline, especially at night. It's very centrally located. I think no trip is complete without a stroll in the gardens.

Wonderful

By chrish574 |

This garden is beautiful! I got it confused with Boston Common-- as they are right next to each other. It is beautiful and peaceful. I loved the Swan Boats and the Make Way for Ducklings statutes.

Nice place on your walk to other sites

By Chuckmidwest |

It was a nice day but nothing was opened or operating. However the statues and flower beds were well designed and pretty. The rose garden needs to be enlarged but the gardner knows what they are doing.

Always beautiful!

By bigchuck68 |

This park is gorgeous! It is stunning in the summer when the grass is green and the swan boats are paddling around with the swans and ducks. But it is just as beautiful during a rain or snowstorm! It is the best place to be in the city for a peaceful walk or sit down. This is the place to be to de stress in the busy Hub! Make sure you take a walk through and admire the hard work of the Boston Parks Dept. And if it is summer do yourself a favor and ride the swan boats!

Nice

By Laura W |

I was only here for a little bit. Looks like a nice place to relax for a while. I did not get to see all the beautiful flowers or leaves or snow that other pictures have. It was still relatively warm in early September. Different statues to look at. My favorite was actually the Ether one. Also the 9/11 remembrance.

Wonderfully Relaxing

By Angelo S |

What a peaceful place in the middle of a bustling city. With large ponds, great flower areas, places to sit and small statues, you can wander a bit and not really run into a whole lot of people. The area seems quieter than the Commons across the street. Beautiful trees and great walking paths give a great place to spend a few hours relaxing.

Public Garden

By Tim R |

This is a great place to stretch your legs as well as a very handy landmark when you are walking around Boston. In the summer it is colorful and a good meeting place, winter it is a bit chilly

Lovely clean green area to walk about lots of locals walking their dogs and loads of very friendly squirrels about looking fed

Beautiful ... Beautiful

By mcauleyonki |

This was a welcome respite while on our walking and biking tour around Boston. We took some time to jump off the Blue Bike we rented and stayed a while in the Public Garden to eat our snacks and rest. The view is pretty, lots of wildlife hopping around and lake to look at.

Pretty

By TarJa |

The gardens are pretty. If you have extra time during your visit, this is a great way to spend a sunny day. I stayed on the main path, and I walked straight through the gardens; I did not venture every trail, although I could see almost everything from the path.
I enjoyed being outside, and I was on my to the Commons, from Back Bay. It was a direct walk, with beautiful gardens around me.

Lovely sunny space with beautiful lake

By EcoBean |

Worth walking through, or taking a picnic and enjoying the buskers. Huge squirrels are very entertaining.

By Thomas V |

This beautiful park area is in the center of town and is part of the big green space that graces the built-up city. Lots of elegant landscaping, places to stroll and places to sit. The classic old city is all around.

Cozy walk in Boston Public Garden

I visited Boston in early Oct, the leaves had not turned yellow and brown yet, but it was nice to walk there. Suggest to go on a picnic if weather is good.

Beautiful setting!

Enjoy the swan boats, which have been in existence since 1877, (all ages!) as well as the Ducklings Statues. Beautiful plantings and walkways.

Looking terrible at the moment. The pond is drained and muddy. There is hardly any autumn colour. Not worth visiting.

Boston Garden a beautiful and Historical place

By Terry S |

My son and I decided to go for an early morning walk and ended up as part of that walk going through the garden park, it was tranquil very clean and we saw no homeless people or drug dealings as it has been mentioned on here.
What we did see was a very clean and beautiful park land lush and green and a sparkling pond in the early morning light with some beautiful white swans gliding around in the pond!
There are a number of statues scattered around also.

Nice Greenery

By Jordan |

A lovely communal area, great for dog walking and never too overcrowded in our experience. The statue of George Washington is a great photo-op.

Swan ride

By Elena M |

Beautiful day to take this ride. The day before was so cold they closed early. Beautiful tulips and trees. Ducks and frogs in the pond.

A Must-Visit Urban Oasis!

By Anna G |

A Must-Visit Urban Oasis!
The Boston Public Garden is an absolute gem right in the heart of the city. I visited in the fall, and the vibrant foliage reflecting on the water was magical. It’s the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Boston and enjoy a peaceful stroll.
Of course, a visit isn't complete without seeing the iconic Swan Boats on the lagoon and the beloved "Make Way for Ducklings" statues. It's a great spot for both families and individuals looking for a relaxing afternoon. The beautiful landscaping, the ornate footbridge, and the various monuments make it a picturesque and memorable experience. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Boston.

Make way for ducklings!

By lynnr69 |

A lovely area for a stroll, even when we visited in winter it was stunning. Make sure you see the Make Way for Ducklings statues - they usually have hats or clothing to match the season or sporting calendar!

Beautiful Fall Stroll!

By OHBuckeye |

My husband and I were in Boston for a day and I’m so glad we stumbled upon this beautiful public garden! The foliage and large pond are very well maintained and simply gorgeous. Unfortunately, the swan boat rides were, I believe, closed for the season. However, the fall colors and watching the busy squirrels getting ready for winter definitely made up for it.

Nice walk on a hot day

By Rustyguy |

Not enough mask etiquette in some places!
Makes you wonder what statues shouldn't come down... they are all symbols of something, both bad and good....

Well Known Gardens of Boston

By Mixa's Travels |

With The Public Gardens next to the Boston Common it is a nice area to walk. We used it to just go to the next Hop On hop Off stop. It is a nice garden. We just saw part of it. Having seen the magnificent Public Gardens in Halifax it was a bit disappointing

Summer is such a perfect time to see this area! The weather was gorgeous, the flowers were blooming, the area was clean, a few musicians were playing, .... we wandered for hours and went back every day we were there to do the same.

Beautiful park!

A great place to go for a walk on a nice day. There is a pond, some statues, and lots of trails criss crossing the park. And it's right near the start of the Freedom Trail.

Good park in Boston downtown, a lot of squirrels around you.
It is good to breath air in the town. Lot of residents with their dogs

Take the time out of your busy day to relax here. Be sure to ride the Swan Boats. So peaceful. We witnessed a mother with her seven little ducklings swimming alongside.

A most beautiful place in the middle of the city. Very relaxing and lots to see. Don’t miss the swan boats on the lagoon.

Beautiful Urban Park; Make Way for Ducklings

By ElaineAndGreg |

Before you come here, grab or look up a copy of the delightful children's book "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey. The book is every bit as charming today as it was when it was released decades ago.

The Boston Public Garden is right next to the slightly larger Boston Commons in front of the Massachusetts state house. It is extremely well landscaped and was at its very best when we visited on a nice day in May. We saw large beds of tulips and other flowers, and in some respects, it was hard to believe you were in the center of a major city.

The mother duck and ducklings statues in "Make Way for Ducklings" are in the north/northeast corner of the park. Children love them. The pond described in the book is also there, complete with some of the same swan boats that were in use when Robert McCloskey was an art student in Boston. The boats are still in operation. The ride itself is pretty gentle but fun in its own way.

By the way, if you ever find yourself in Moscow, Russia, there is another set of the statues in the Novodevichy Park, a gift of Barbara Bush to Raisa Gorbachev.

The park has all kinds of enchanting views and trails. This is an excellent place to visit in its own right, but also a nice break if you are walking the freedom trail.

Great at Night

By Larry J |

We walked through the garden as night fell and it was beautiful to see the trees which lined the path gradually gleam with Christmas lights. We took pictures in the dusky light next to the Washington statute. It is a fine tribute to our first President!

Well-Maintained and Popular

By Thomas V |

We walked through this beautiful park on a perfect fall day with lots of sunshine. You cannot always depend on the weather, but you can depend on the fact that this downtown park will be beautifully maintained and very popular. You will find it between the Common and Back Bay.

Beautiful garden in the heart of Biston

By Alireza123 |

My wife and I stayed in Boston for four nights. Our hotel was near the garden and we arranged to cross it every day of our stay at least two times.
In April it was a frame of a master piece. Very beautiful . It is not very big like central park in NY If you sit for a few minutes, one hour is enough. If you want to eat and drink and play half a day is good .

This Garden was a very pleasant place to spend a hot summer vacation day. With a picnic basket and water bottles our family found several benches near the lake to people watch. Most places to sit where under shade trees, too. Lots of scenic views, a cute bridge, and adequate trash cans. Love this place!!!

a must see

By JerseyBenp |

even in Feb the park is very good and a nice escape from the city, the park has many nice walkways and really nice old bridge to view pond from, their are squirels everywhere to and are very friendly

With little kids this is a must stop in Boston so they can see the statues to the famous make way for ducklings ducks

Beautiful park

By Soabrevaya |

It has great greenery, some animals (squirrels and ducks). Even in winter the trees were beautiful. There is a lake, and a lot of places to sit.

Absoultely Beauiful!

By Krr1975 |

We loved our time in the Public Gardens! From the Make Way for Ducklings Sculputure, Swan Boat Ride, beautiful grounds, the lovely footbridge and the lagoon, we're so glad we made our way here.

Amazing gardens from what was once a tidal marshland

By bob l |

Amazing that this was at one time a tidal marshland, mudflats, in colonial times a ropewalk (a place where they manufactured rope for sailing and other purposes) and finally after much landfill, the nations first public botanical garden in 1837.

Of course check out the swan boats but 2 other notable things to see are -- the “make way for ducklings” statues at the north eastern corner from Robert McCloskey book published in 1941 --- and the park bench in the movie Good Will Hunting that Robin Williams and Matt Damon sat facing the water, located just west of the north end of the lake. Found all of this from the Boston walking tours from the free app Free Walking Tours Presents.

Wow

By njsfinest3 |

We really enjoyed this park. I mean wow it was beautiful. It's a great spot to chill, or take photos. All around it's worth the stop

Beautiful and serene park in the middle of a large and busy city. Great place to relax after a long walk and people watch. Went there a couple of times during our trip. Gorgeous in the fall. Highly recommend.

Beautiful park with lots of picture possibilities

This park is dominated by a large body of water at the center of the park with an attractive bridge across it. There are flowers, lush green trees and statues sprinkled throughout the park. This park is not to be missed.

One of my favorite places to visit when I go to Boston. The grounds are beautiful and I can't visit the Public Garden without a ride on the Swan Boats. Sitting in the park there is so much to see. The flowers, the trees, the statues, the pond, etc. The Public Gardens are just beautiful!

Just walk, relax and enjoy

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

Boston public Garden park is adjacent to the oldest US public park of Boston Common, divided by a street only.
It's a beautiful area with greenery, big pond, ducks and many paths for a leisure stroll or picnic.

Very Pleasant Urban Oasis

By Jonathan M |

The Public Garden is more kept up than neighboring Boston Common with trails, a pretty pond, and lots of shaded lawn. Don't miss the 'Make Way For Ducklings' sculpture.

Relaxing Place to Walk Through

By dctravel |

Chose to walk through the Boston Public Garden on our way back to our hotel one afternoon. Really enjoyed seeing everything in the park as we strolled.

Garden walk

By SnooksintheDesert |

Walked the Common & adding garden - very pretty, nice to see the people all out, lots of art here, pretty.

Very nice garden

This garden is located across the street from Boston Common. The garden is a nice and cool place to stroll with plenty of sitting areas.

Serenity

By Rolshchikov-Dmitry |

Lovely small tranquil park. It has picturesque lake/pond, famous statues (e.g. one of George Washington or Make Way for Ducklings) and many friendly squirrels. Awesome place to walk through or to spend some time.

A beautiful garden

By LisaMNUSA |

After visiting commons, we walked here. The garden was well maintained. It was clean, the beautiful flowers, the well trimmed trees, the pond and ducks. It was very beautiful and relaxing.

Walk to Relax

By Koa W |

Taking a walk in the park, you'll come across the famous Swan Boats. These charming white swan-shaped boats gracefully sail across the calm pond, creating a beautiful scene that's a must-see for anyone visiting the garden!

Perfect weather for seeing Boston Public Gardens

By D H |

Walked the public gardens our first morning in Boston. Found the ducking statues, George Washington and found the Frog Pond (no water at this time but a shallow concrete "pool". I liked that the trees had labels on them.

Nothing too special

By Jenny_from_PA |

Nice little park next to Boston Common. Small lake with scenic bridge is a nice detail. In June there was nothing blooming, so gardens is a bit of a misnomer.

Beautiful Place to Visit

By Connie M |

The Boston Public Garden is a great place for a stroll, a boat ride or a picnic.

Visitors can relax on a park bench and watch the swan boats gliding by on the pond. Ducks paddle past you. Everywhere you look, there's a tree, flower or bush to admire.

Don't miss the swan boat ride. This is a very gentle, slow boat ride which is perfect for small children or older people. It's very relaxing and peaceful.

Loved this place.

By DANFORTH L |

we have been going there for years. its a wonderful place especially during summer. lots of activities to do. This is the first park we have visited after moving from Chicago in 2008.

What a beautiful scenic park ❤️

By Kree |

Beautiful park. We all enjoyed the view so much. Our young cousins loved to run around. Unfortunately a lil bit chilly so couldn’t stay longer.

Worth the walk

By Awsomegal |

Had to step into this park. Loved the swan boats. Lots of benches to sit on. Wish we had more time to spend there but was very peaceful with the time we had. Can see how it could be a little sketchy at night.

Must visit

By CP67 |

It's a beautiful park, even in winter. The guided tour begins here, highlighting the diverse tree species planted throughout the area and showcasing the various movies filmed on-site.

Gorgeous Park with History

By Allison K |

Such a beautiful and well kept park. We walked around the entire park admiring the plants and statues - it felt like we were in Europe. Truly a pleasure to be in this park. There is also a lot of history about the park which made it even more fun for us.

One thing - lots of animals - geese, ducks, squirrels, etc - and they are not afraid of people, so just be mindful of them and don't feed them.

Green & Clean!

By XSki007 |

I was impressed with the entire city - green pockets everywhere and the streets are extremely well kept.
My first non business visit.
This space is special and it does a lot to add to the character and charm of the city.

Wonderful

By Charla |

Such a wonderful place to visit. European like garden. A real treasure and gem of Boston. Don’t miss seeing this and the Commons where the new MLK statue is located. A must see for both. Beautifully manicured gardens. Not your typical public park. Don’t miss a ride in the swan boats.

Beautiful and restful.

By Laurie |

There are many clean paths, beautiful sculptures scattered throughout. The flowers are beautiful and there are a lot of benches in the shade to rest and relax. The swan rides on the water end just before Labor Day, so if you’re wanting to do that now, you’re too late.

BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN

By Larry-Calif |

Across the street from the Boston Common is the garden is one of the most beautiful and scenic with lush landscaping place.

Originally the muddy salt flats of the Back Bay was gradually filled with excavation from Beacon Hill. The area between the Boston Common and Boston Public Garden was used as an unofficial dumping ground, due to being the lowest-lying portion of the Garden. The area (now known as Charles Street) was regraded with the excavation of the nearby Tremont Street Subway

Adjacent to Charles Street is the landscaped Boston Public Garden (24 acres) with numerous paths, many seasoned flower beds, a number of fountains, statues, signature suspension bridge over the middle of the pond.

One of the most famous sculptures is “Make Way for the Duckings” a bronze sculpture of Mrs. Mallard and her eight ducklings was installed near the corner of Beacon Street & Charles Street area. Mrs. Mallard’s baby Duckings are named “Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack.” Little kids hug, kiss, climb on and feed the bronze ducks.

The best time to visit the Public Garden is early morning when the birds are just beginning to start the day with their song and the joggers are out running and they dog walkers are strolling through the park. Sitting here in the glorious landscaping, sensing the coolness of the shady trees and experiencing peace all around I feel like I am in BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN … at the Boston Public Garden.

Beautiful walk even in July.

By Peachy K |

All the parks we walked through in Boston were nice, including this one. The iconic swan boats were here and several historical statues. I thought the grounds were kept beautifully for a town that was still recuperating from covid and loss of merchants and city dwellers. I always love a town with a college student population walking to class or studying somewhere and the area where we stayed had quite a few young people. It keep the vibe fresh!

City gardens

By courtney9384 |

It's a lovely green space to have in the middle of the city. Well maintained gardens with lots of benches...perfect for a picnic.

Beautiful Garden in the City!

By Danielle Fernandez |

A lovely garden full of flowers and statues! Along (and next to) the Boston Common, this area is a must-see when visiting Boston. It is so well maintained and the perfect place to relax. You can take a swan boat ride, sit under the trees, or on a bench and people watch. It was great to walk around and enjoy the city!

Exceptional Park!

By MikeRich |

Yet another Olmsted masterpiece. This is why it's so beautiful. The swan boats have been replicated all over the word, even by people who don't know their origins.

BOSTON!

By HOLIDAYLADY18 |

This is where it all began! This is the focal point of Boston. This is where everyone comes in the Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall! You can walk around, lie down, read, people watch or daydream! A must in the late spring/summer is the Swan Boats - they have been around forever! There are performers entertaining people and kids. It's a great meeting place.

A Gem of Boston, in the center of it all

By WizeGuyFromDaChi |

Nice place to walk and talk or hideaway from hustle and bustle. Good spot for a picnic and hanging with friends/loved ones.

Lots of greenery and shade to escape the sun after all the walking required to see all the tourist attractions. A variety of trees, flowers, and bushes can be found.

A lovely place to spend an hour.

By pjgrad |

What a beautiful park! We walked the whole park and it was well worth it. The landscaping is lovely.

Beautiful and clean

By caroline1851 |

We had a nice, relaxing time wondering through the Garden and Common. We had fun feeding nuts to the birds and squirrels. The flowers were beautiful and the park is super clean.

Superb large park in the middle of town

By manzag |

This is one of my favourite places for a stroll in Boston. It is lovwly whatever season you are there. A number of the trees are labelled so you can identify/learn about them. The squirrels are quite tame and even entertaining. It's a great spot to take some really nice photos.

Boston in the Fall

By David G |

The park/garden was beautiful as the we were there for the fall foliage part of our visit. Major disappointment the ponds were completely dry, assuming for some sort of maintenance? So not a lot of picture taking opportunities. Disappointed since we walked so far to get to it and didn’t know the ponds were dry.

Quaint little urban park

Make way for Ducklings

By Sue C |

The statues of Mrs Mallard and her ducklings was such a highlight Read this book many times to my children and the my school classes. And on looking at the book again I saw all the things I saw in the park, swan boats, statues, the title island in the lake. So delightful.Loved it.

Lovely park. Ideal for toddlers

By Gill D |

We visited in November with our just turned 3 year old. She loved it here. Be sure to go see the Make Way For The Ducklings statues if you have time. My daughter asked a few times to come back and see them (if you haven't and have time before your trip look up the book).

Beautiful Gardens

Beautiful gardens. Well maintained and incredibly picturesque. At the end of the Commonwealth Avenue and before Boston Common. Easy to spend a while walking or just chilling.
Cheers Bar is just off to the side too.

Our favorite part about walking through the city

One of our favorite parts about walking through the city was walking through the public garden, it is absolutely stunning in person and exceeded our expectations!! We cannot wait to go back to feed the squirrels, relax and just enjoy the scene!

Raining Squirrels!

The Boston Public Garden was a perfect respite on a May afternoon. We particularly enjoyed the elm tree stuffed to the gills with squirrels by the lagoon.

Nice walk on a winter day

By Northern_Traveler00 |

beautiful crisp day on New Year's, so we went into town to get some fresh air and exercise. Walked all of the paths in the Public Garden and Common, watching all the wicked fat and bold squirrels and mostly masked people. Accordionist on the bridge was playing holiday tunes and kids were climbing all over the duckling statues

Lovely day and evening!

By Adrienne S |

The Public Garden is a lovely place to stroll. Children playing, dogs (on leash) galore, beautiful flowers and friendly people. We felt safe both day and evening. A great city gathering place.

Beautiful!!!

Excellent park , very tranquil and wonderfully kept gardens , a great place to stroll or enjoy a lazy afternoon

Delightful park

By tinylass |

The park was close to our hotel so we found ourselves here a few times. It was spotlessly clean and extremely pretty. It was lovely to watch the birds on the lake, take a stroll around, see wedding parties having their photographs taken and generally just sitting and watching the world go by!

Beautiful Place to spend the afternoon

By Kim D |

Located right next to Boston Commons, we thought we'd just pop over for a quick walk but ended up spending several hours. It's a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. The park is clean and safe with plenty to look at.

A jewel of the city

By RM |

Wonderful area for all to enjoy. Such a great park to soak up the history of this great city. Beautiful and clean. Well kept and plenty of shade and places to sit. Being a fan of "Make Way for Ducklings" I enjoyed the area that honored the classic book by Robert McCloskey.

Good place!

It’s a good place to go and walk for a while.

Amazing! Looks beautiful right now, full of colors, birds and people; it is also a really good place to do a picnic.

Beautiful Place For A Walk

By Mark P |

This is a beautiful verdant oasis in the heart of the city. It is a great place to walk or to people watch. The Swan Boats are a nice feature, and fans of the movie Good Will Hunting will want to locate the bench where a famous scene was filmed.

Beautiful

By Cassie H |

I’m so glad to have visited during fall when the trees started changing, though it’s beautiful every season. The only downside is the people smoking weed and asking for money.

A great place to walk every morning

By Chiili |

Stayed near the gardens and went for a walk every morning. The park is clean and safe. Made you feel you were not in a city. The flowers are beautiful. Must see the ducks sleeping as well as the duck statues. Thank you Boston for pressuring the park and keeping it clean.

One of the loveliest spots in Boston

By LivelyLaura |

Boston Public Garden is a lovely and vibrant place. I was staying next to the Garden and took advantage of going for a walk every day while I was there. It's a bucolic place, and can also be quite lively, like when there was a relay race event there. I just love the public garden part of the Commons, and the ducks statue is heartwarming.

Squirrels 🐿

By 112sandraq |

Such a lovely peaceful place for a stroll, the amount of squirrels provided great entertainment for the youngest. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely in the park

By Travelinglizarded |

Always nice to stroll through when the parking is so hard. Boston is such a great walking city. We always want to use the commons to access good food, good views and good people watching!

I love walking through the Public Gardens. Obviously they are in bloom more in the warmer climates, but it is still lovely to stroll through them any time of year.

Lovely respite from the traffic

Stunning

By NIMA |

Stunningly beautiful, well-kept, peaceful park. Such a gem in the centre of beautiful Boston and worth taking a stroll through.

Serene pathways for serious strolling

By Adventure Diva |

Boston Public Garden's vibrant floral patterns with colorful displays make me come back year after year. This is the first botanical garden in the U.S. where their serene pathways are great for strolling. Take a calming swan boat ride to make your experience special.

Visit during Spring

By Aniket |

Visited the Boston Garden during spring. Since there are lots of trees and flora, you can see spring in full bloom here. It is very beautiful and charming. You can bring your family, or significant other or even come solo. There are walking paths and sometimes you see street vendors on the outskirts.

Just OK

By scooter d |

It's a park like lot of other parks in the country. Nicely done and offers a lot of shade in hot summer days

Do Not Miss This Natural Beauty

By Jamie O |

The Public Garden is truly beautiful in every season, with a variety of flowers and old trees (labelled with variety and planting date), as well as a water feature. The park can be very busy in fine weather. There are often street musicians playing and you can also take a short ride on the pedal-operated swan boats. Worth a stroll whenever you are in Boston.

History and Duckling Statues

By 464merlot |

Make Way For Ducklings, the favorite children’s book about a duck family who settles in the public garden, has a wonderful statue here and is a must see for kids of all ages. Our second visit to Boston and we had to see them again. Even in winter the park is kept clean, the squirrels abound and it’s a lovely escape in the city. Lots of great history as well.

THE Boston Garden!

By richardflazur |

Not the sports arena! This is the real green, plants blooming beautiful garden. Always worth a stroll when in Boston regardless of season. In summer, we’ll-designed beds bloom in a seasonal variety of color, texture , and height. Three years ago (‘16), there were roses blooming in December! But not this year. In winter, lights color the trees.
The Swan 🦢 Boats, propelled by a human, are a delight! By all means, worth the experience. Walk over the bridge, especially in summer when the beds are ablaze in color. In the corner near Beacon Street is a “Make way for duckings” replica, a must stop for any kid familiar with the classic Boston story.
Cross Charles Street and continue through the Common if you want, but the real beauty is here in the Garden!

Lovely green calming space

By Brandymate |

Lovely bit of green space in a busy city .... I loved this area with the pond, fountains and statues and the beautiful ornate bridge . This park in in two half’s, on the second half (over a road) is a ice skating ring which was being fully used when we visited in January ..... we visited both day and night as the Christmas lights were still up and made the park quite magical at night ..... I’m sure this park in the summer must come alive with people, music and picnics and children, but on a cold day in January there wasn’t many visitors walking around .... definitely a nice walk, but in the summer a great place to spend a good few hours I would think .....

Gorgeous park!!

By Nic H |

Gorgeous park. Very walkable. Loved the statues and lake. There are birds walking around (geese, etc) so for those fearful of these beware. The history was lovely and flower gardens were gorgeous!

Tour of Public Garden- a lovely morning!

By Joy M |

We joined Bridget and (Annie I think) for a free walking tour of the public gardens. It was a great blend of history, botany, and art appreciation! It was well worth the time. We are so happy that the Friends of the Public Garden exist and share their time!

Beautiful Green Space

By Thomas V |

This big park is right in the middle of downtown and offers a welcome respite in the busy city. Lots of history here and statues and plaques to tell you about it. Well-landscaped.

Even in winter this is a lovely place with plenty of wildlife and interesting sculptures.

By Vincent D |

We were staying on Commonwealth Avenue which is a beautiful linear park linking both Boston public garden and the Common. Although it was winter time it was a lovely place to walk through and to see beautiful memorials to notable Bostonians. Unlike the Common it has a lovely lake and bridge.

Beautiful walk

By Maltipoo16 |

Beautiful garden/park for a walk. Opted to walk through the garden instead of the streets just to take in the scenery on a nice day.

Beautiful

By Patrick S |

The weather was perfect, bright and sunny which made for a great stroll through the park. Plenty of benches to relax and enjoy the gardens.

Beautiful Public Park

By Carrie D. |

The Public Garden is just a really lovely place to stroll around for the evening. We spent a couple of hours walking through and there were so many people out enjoying the weather. We loved seeing the ducklings and the bridge. The MLK Memorial was very moving. We really wished the swan boats had been open, but it was too early in the season. It’s one of America’s best big city public gardens/parks, in my opinion.

The ORIGINAL definition of beautiful public space

By Ray T |

If you find yourself in downtown Boston and are looking for a respite from the hustle and bustle of Newbury St and downtown crossing, than head over to the Boston Public Gardens (directly next to Boston Common). This space was some of the first public gardens in America to provide some beauty and relaxation to the growing number of urban dwellers.

Don't miss the tulips in the spring or the duck boats in the summer.

The Big Historic Park

By Thomas V |

This is the big public park in the center of the historic district and very close to downtown. It's a big open space and much loved by everyone, locals and visitors.

Gorgeous oasis near Boston Commons

By R J |

Absolutely beautiful garden right between the Boston Commons and Back Bay area. We just wandered around enjoying the flowers and watching the ducks and geese. Lots of folks having picnics and walking their dogs. Just a really lovely place to spend some time. We basically just walked through the garden on the way to and from Back Bay for lunch. If we’d had more time, we would have lingered an hour or so. Only downside is lack of nearby public restroom facilities. There may have been some but we could not find them.

Nice Park

By ufwallygator |

If you go to Boston you will likely walk through the park. It is pretty and relaxing. A great place for people watching.

Nice for a stroll

By Kbisono |

The garden is beautiful. At fall you see all the nice colors in trees surrounding a lake. There are some trucks where you can buy snacks. We went on a Sunday and the bridge area was somewhat crowded but the rest is big so you won’t feel packed.
Nice heaven in the middle of the city

Very relaxing and pretty

By Gail W |

We enjoyed our visit to the garden. We saw school children doing their physical education lesson, more school children having a story. Just very relaxing to walk through

Nice gardens

By WorcesterMoray |

Across the road from Boston common. Not at its best yet but some flowers out and especially liked the large gallium. Will become more colourful as summer progresses.
Large lake with swan boats.

Natural beauty is everywhere

Since inception, this garden has been decorative and very flowery featuring great pathways for strolling or having a picnic. Kudos goes out to the local parks department in maintaining the garden's natural beauty.

Very Cool Park

By bshaw158 |

My wife and I visited Boston for a long weekend. We frequented the Commons because it was fun to hang out people (and dog) watch.

Relaxation for Bostonians

By Kimitaka Sho |

A park adjacent to Boston Common, slightly smaller than Boston Common. There is a large pond in the center that serves as a place for citizens to relax. Duck objects in the park are a popular photo spot. A straight promenade called Commonwealth Avenue continues west from this park.

Lovely space

By jefff727 |

Just a short walk from our hotel to this urban sanctuary. Lovely shade trees, plentiful benches, ample green space.

Make sure you visit

By rafrew |

The Public Garden was a short walk from our hotel and we found ourselves there a number of times. We were there to see the beautiful colors of the Autumn/Fall leaves. There is a statue of Paul Revere in the park as well as a lovely foot bridge over a lagoon where the swan boats are. The Public Gardens are adjacent to the Boston Common, but are much better. Make sure you visit it - you'll be surprised at how long you actually stay there !

great place to walk around after dinner

By E5112UTLawrence |

THis park was quite amazing. It was very open and spacious with lots of photo opportunities. Went there after dinner at Cheers and it was very relaxing. People were friendly. The park is just beautiful.

Visit the Ducklings!

By nylady21 |

I always make time to visit the Ducklings, no matter the season. The sculptures always make me smile. The walking paths are gorgeous as it’s always fun to see the trees, even in the winter.

Beautiful venue to stroll through of a temperate summer day!

By Nomad0921 |

We walked through the Boston Public Garden as it was very close to where we stayed. It is a well kept urban oasis that was very clean even with the relatively heavy amount of foot traffic that was there on a Saturday afternoon. The flowers were in bloom and on full display, along with the masks that almost everyone had including the park ranger who was stationed there for additional security - all good! The only thing that was missing were the swan boats which are not running due to the Covid pandemic. Overall, the venue is thoroughly enjoyable for an individual, couples or a family. We'll definitely return!

Iconic Garden 🌳👏🏻

By giugiberto |

Very Iconic Garden in the center of Boston with the Classic lake in the middle of the garden with the possibility to go On a tour on the famous Swan Boat.. simply Amazing!

A park of Beauty.

By Jack L |

Public Garden is located next to the Boston Common separated with Charles Street. The Garden is about 1/3 the size of the Common, that doesn't mean there is not enough sites to view. The following is what I photographed: the George Washington statue, statues Tadcusz Koseiusk- a Polish officer during the American Revolutionary Waron the patriot side-Wendell Phillips & Charles Sumner followed with he Ethen Monument-the Garden's tallest structure. One exhibit is the 9/11 In Peaseful REmembrance- which is about the people of Boston who's lives were taken from the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on New York City.

The Garden's center has the Duck Pond also known was the lagoon-which houses the Duck Island & Swan Boats where can ride. About the midway mrk is the Suspenion Bridge that leads weat to east.

What I missed was 'Make Way For Ducklings'- sculptures of bronze ducks- and the Bagheer Foundation. If a visitor walks west-pass the George Washington statue-cross Arlington Street, there will encounter a walkway between two Commonwealth Avenue that run west & east the staue of Alexander Hamilton.

What does the Garden over over the Common, the color of gree. Yes the Common has green, however the Garden's green is more green, sculptures bushs & tall circlar bushy trees and very colorful flowers. A garden surrounds the the Garden's greatest site-George Washington on horse bck, mounted on a large base.

PARKING.
The only parking is the Boston Parking Garage off Charles St. The garage is an underground three level facility. If using a GPS unit, use 4 Charles Street, Boston, MA , 02116. The zip code is the most important park of the address. If a visitor does park here, remember which level they park on: TOP, MIDDLE & LOWER and the space number. I walked about 15 minutes before locating my vehicle.

A visit is highly recommended. My visit lasted over an hour. Time spent will depend what a visitor views & reads.

An oasis for recreation until night comes

Excellent , very careful , a sports walk, although at dusk and in low light groups gather varied to consume substances, homeless, etc.

Eat lunch here... De Luca's Market and Deli is nearby

By J H |

Beautiful place for a deli lunch! We grabbed a deli sandwich from DeLuca's on Charles Street and sat near the Make Way for Ducklings. It was the perfect place for an autumn lunchtime.

By Tigeriffic69 |

This is a great big park, and is something you should add to your list if visiting Boston.
There is a nice duck, and hands sculpture, as well as a swan boat ride, that goes under a very pretty bridge. Take your camera, and a picnic. Great place to people watch.

Make Way for Ducklings

By Kate D |

Amazing. Beautiful. Loved it. Do the swan boats if you can book a boat before 3 pm. The gardens and statues are so wonderful and peaceful. The "Make Way for Ducklings" statues are a special part of the park. The trees are so iconic. The Washington statue is cool. There are so many wonderful things to see here or just bring a blanket and look up at the beautiful blue sky. This is worth the trip. Also, clean and safe unlike Boston Commons, which I WOULD NOT recommend to people who want a safe visit to Boston.

Wonderful!

Beautiful park for walking, running and enjoying nature in downtown Boston !!

Belo parque para camimhar, correr e para curtir a natureza no centro de Boston!!

What a gem

By cristoph2010 |

Boston Public Garden is a gem in the middle of the city. It's a great place to relax. Some people do have picnics in the garden. It's well-maintained and peaceful. Above all, it's free.

A beautiful walk through the garden

By jerrys01 |

I actually consider the Garden to be more of a park. Yes, there are some flowers, but with the paths, waterways, swan boats, etc., the elements of a great public park are present. My wife and I spent a pleasant hour strolling the grounds and enjoying the fresh and (for once) sunny air.

One of Boston's Best Attractions.

By Terry H |

A beautiful spot to walk in, through, and around. It is so restorative to hear families and couples laughing and having a good time. We love its history and appreciate the way Boston showcases one of the oldest parks in the country (it may be the oldest in fact).

Well worth a visit.

Beautiful even in the winter

By Drfoodlover2 |

Great place to visit. Well maintained and beautiful even in the winter. Great place for casual strolls.

Peace among the chaos!

Taking a stroll through the Boston Public Garden is a great respite when visiting. It's beautiful any time of year and a great place to catch your breath and reflect.

Must see garden

By seanworc |

An iconic public park in the center of Boston. The Public Garden is a must see in Boston. The weeping willows are my favorite plant here. There is a magical quality of this garden designed by Olmsted, the designer of Central Park in Manhattan. Worth a leisurely stroll around the frog pond and over the little bridge. Great photo opportunities. Great for young couples in love.

Weekend with my bestie

By Michelle C |

A lovely park right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a fabulous city. Really pretty in the snow with festive lights everywhere. It's central to everywhere and sets you off for the freedom trail. The ice rink is great for the holiday feeling. A must do when visiting the city.

A Beautiful, Dynamic Park Full of Gorgeous Trees, Flowers, Statues, and Swan Boats

By volcanogirl |

We loved visiting the Boston Public Garden. We came in mid-April, and there were already trees bursting into bloom and tulips coming up through the ground. The park is beautifully landscaped with a pretty lake area, the famous swan boats, a gorgeous bridge, an imposing equestrian statue of George Washington, and the charming Make Way For Ducklings statues. The tall willow trees surrounding the lake make the area especially scenic. Note that the swan boats close at 4:00 p.m., so go early if you're interested in those. The park was clean and full of people out enjoying the first warm days of spring. This would be an excellent place for a picnic. My only suggestion would be to have a map on display to make things easy to find. After wandering around a bit, we asked some kind locals to point us toward the duckling statues which they did. If you want to get out and enjoy nature inside the city, this is the perfect place to do it.

My happy place

By TravelB |

Boston Public Garden is one of the most serene places you can visit especially in the middle of a bustling city. Don’t skip this place by going to Boston Common. It’s not the same thing! Take a ride in the swan boats and then relax in the shade!

Walking through Beantown!

By Roy P |

My wife and I went walking to several different points of interest and the garden was one of them. We were not sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. It was really beautiful. Fairly quiet, laid out well, and peaceful. Nice walking paths, a pond with a bridge, and many different trees that are marked what they are. It was a very nice experience.
We would highly recommend especially if you are close enough to walk to it. Parking can be tough.

Great in winter and in summer.

By KieraTin603 |

I’ve visited in winter and again in summer both experiences were great. In winter there was ice skating and Christmas lights setting a very romantic atmosphere. In summer the gardens are well maintained for the amount of people visiting. I enjoyed the rose garden area.

Serenity

By SagaloutsTour |

Next to Boston Common, this is a wonderfully well maintained public space, with lakes, flower beds and plenty of seating where you can totally chill.

Great place to unwind

Great time. My family visited from Michigan. They always want a lap around the commons. We had a great time.

Oasis in amongst the hustle

By Kevin D |

Worth a visit whilst in town as you can stand in the middle of the park on the bridge and see the surrounding buildings at a distance. Great walk.

Underwhelming

By Kathleen R |

I've read about this garden in so many books, I always wanted to see it. Unfortunately, the water was drained out of the ponds and not much was blooming. It would be nice if more of the trees were labeled.

Lovely walk in the chilly sunshine!

By verydarklilac |

Great place for a mooch around to people watch and enjoy the greenery. It wasn’t too busy and it was restful to watch the colour of the leaves turning and to view the architecture of the buildings nearby at leisurely pace.

Squirrels!

By Nemelek |

Very nice place to stroll around in any season! Squirrels are everywhere playing with each other. Is right next to Boston Common Park.

Take time to enjoy the beauty of nature and the well kept yards and gardens. The colors of fall were in full swing.

By Damaris A |

Great park with lots to see and do. The park has willow trees jar dance on the wind and birds flowing from one side of the pond to the other. The wall from one end of the park to the other was always an adventure. We saw the fattest squirrels and the friendliest ones too. You can tell people feed them. Not us

Don’t miss this

By Howard K |

A 24 acre colorful oasis. My spouse and I were there the last day of July. Beautiful weather. Lush green grass. Colorful vegetation. Many different walking paths that snake across the garden. The swan boats were lazily transporting folks across the 4 acre pond. We caught sight of a well dressed wedding party taking pictures on the grass. This is a must see.

Vist the garden not the common

By James |

Explored this park on my day off. was the only thing in Boston I wanted to go out and do other than what I came here for. The park was beautiful with tons of people. However The park is a little dirty. The public garden is much cleaner and nicer than the boston common.

Fun walk in the park!

By KKB_HSV |

We were so impressed with how clean and safe Boston was! This includes Boston Public Garden. This green spot in city is always so peaceful! We ice skated at Frog Pound and played at the playground. A great break during our city exploring.

An Informative and Fun Tour of the Public Garden

By JohnandMarylou |

The Boston Public Garden is beautiful and a wonderful place to spend an hour or two when you are downtown. Howver, we saw that the Friends of the Public Gardens do regular 1 hour tours on Tuesday mornings at 10 and Thursday afternoons at 4. We took the afternoon tour and it was wonderful. The guide was a volunteer and very knowledgeable and made the tour fun and interesting. It is definitely something worthwhile to do when you are downtown.

One of the great places to visit

By Travelinglizarded |

This is wonderful on any day to get into a place that allows people watching, dog playing and easy access to other parts of the area.

Stunning

By jensmith52612 |

What a wonderful way to spend a morning. The landscape of this amazing park is amazing. The beauty is worth your time.

Beautiful park

By ldgp14 |

Boston Public Garden is a beautiful park, which can be visited along with Beacon Hill, Beacon Street and Boston Common as they are all next to eachother. The lake is the highlight and with the beautiful colours of the trees in Autumn this place feels truly special.

Absolutely Beautiful Park

By Nicole A |

This is an absolutely beautiful park. There are many paths to walk along. Some take you to large green lawns, others lead to serene hideaways under the trees. There are many sculptures and statues to snap a photo of. The main draw is the beautiful lake in the middle of the park. The swan boats just add to the allure of the time period of the park's origin. It's not hard to imagine people of the Victorian Era, dressed in their fancy daytime attire, meandering the paths just soaking in the beauty around them. The colorful gardens, the shaped hedges, the ornate footbridge, the endless numbers of weeping willows are all visually stunning. I loved my time wandering around this park. I would highly recommend a visit and then take a walk across the road to Boston Common. A different vibe, but also beautiful.

Great free park and pleasant to walk trhough while getting to various attractions

By Sue P |

There is grass, paths, benches, water, pond, swan boats, statues and sits right smack in the middle of the city. You will criss-cross while hitting multiple attractions.

Wonderful Walk in the Summer

By Bigamus |

The Boston Public Garden, located close by the Boston Common, State House, and Newbury Street, is a lovely place to enjoy a stroll in the summer months. If you are travelling between the Back Bay and Faneuil Hall, it's a great way to get there. Much better than sitting in traffic in an Uber or Lyft.

Yes! Come here n!

By torrie family |

It was 20 years since I walked in Boston commons- I felt exactly how I felt before enjoying a sit in bench people watching, I saw kids playing frisbee and some college students with corn hole - and a few folks playing cards and a few singers. My hubby is from mid west never been to Boston - he said wow! Nice let’s walk over to cheers (across the street) “ where everyone will know our names” hahaha! Safe too

My favorite part of Boston

By kelseybundra |

This was my favorite part of Boston. I love the park so much because it has a great view of the older houses. There are so many nice statues, fountains, and things to do within the park.

Beautiful garden and great escape

By Mixie |

Great way to escape the city and relax in a beautiful garden. Take a ride on a swan boat and stroll through the lush gardens. Very clean and well maintained.

Beautiful

Great place to walk around and check out the statues and the beautiful flowers . Lots of areas with shade if it's a hot day. I would definitely recommend taking a stroll through here

Great Outdoor Space in the middle of the city

By 212Moree |

First time in Boston. We visited the gardens on two different days because we enjoyed the first visit so much. The weather was beautiful and the leaves were beginning to changes. The city is doing an amazing job keeping this public space up so well.

Beautiful park, full of flowers and with fountains and bridges.

By jbrsc |

Beautiful park, full of flowers and with fountains and bridges.
To walk and enjoy green, in the most European style you could say.

Beautiful place

By Mike |

I could spend hours exploring or just sitting and taking in the beautiful surroundings. The gardens wonderfully maintained and have lovely relaxing feel to them. We visited in the Fall and colour's are truly stunning. When in Boston do yourself a favour and venture in and just enjoy the stunning scenery.

Nice space

By roaming_kiwi58 |

A lovely space in central Boston. There is a gorgeous bronze statue called "Make Way for Ducklings", which is a must see for kids and adults.

Great for morning walk

By chriscourtney60 |

Visited the common on a few occasions. It is great for a walk early in the morning and is not too busy. Plenty of space for a walk and always felt safe even in the early evening.

Jolly Walk At The Gorgeous Garden

By Ava B |

I love the Boston Public Garden! Whenever we are going to see a play, taking a walk around the city, or going to a restaurant, we always walk by or along the garden. If it is a nice day out, we occasionally take a nice walk along the garden as well. So if you are ever in the city and it is a nice day out, I would recommend walking along the Boston Public Garden and enjoying the beautiful views!

Gorgeous July day in Boston

By Mary D |

Gorgeous day after too many days of rain. Love the trees (ginkos and redwoods and black walnuts, oh my!) and the buskers, the flowers, people watching, swan boats, Frog Pond, carousel. Lovely, lovely day.

Large park

By LauriH44 |

Although we didn't stroll around, we went by the Public Garden numerous times during our stay. It's a beautiful park with a lot of room, for being in the middle of a city.

Beautiful setting

By Lori M |

It is so pretty here! I came on a rainy day which was great as there were very few people. Came again on a sunny day, more people, but still a beautiful setting. Was so excited when I found the make way for ducklings statues. Definitely come and spend sometime admiring the space and it’s also great for people watching.

Beautiful City Escape

By Jrmag2 |

Beautiful green oasis in the middle of a bustling city. Perfect place for pictures, relax, picnic, and/or enjoy natural green space.

Lovely Time in the Gaaaden

By ChairmanJon |

It had snowed so it was very picturesque - lots of statues, the ducks sculpture and open garden to walk and relax in. Worth a visit.

Simply stunning gardens

By 363cymru123 |

Take a walk around the gardens at any time of the day and they are always busy, people know a good thing when they see it! The gardens are very well maintained and we did sit for an hour one afternoon watching the gardeners trimming the ornamental hedges, they do a fantastic job. At the weekends you will see may brides and grooms having their wedding photographs taken here. Families take children for a ride on the swan lake which is very popular along with feeding the ducks and geese. There are plenty of seats/benches around the park in both the sun and shade.

Beautiful Gardens

By Robert B |

These gardens were so lovely and impressive. They were well tended and a nice spot to rest one's weary feet after doing a walking tour of the city. There are several monuments and ponds. September was a great time to be there

Boston Garden is a world-class gem within easy walking distance...

By tmcclintock |

For any season, but you will have a treat of a lifetime waiting until Patriot's Day, or to true Bostonians, Marathon Monday weekend. (Ok, the Saturday before the 3rd Monday in April.) The swan boats are out, the bulbs are starting to bloom well. From then until Columbus Day holiday, the 2nd Monday in October you will simply be amazed. This is very family friendly. No pets, except service dogs. The winter holiday season brings the Common and the Garden to new winter-wonderland life! Do it!

Always beautiful

By Jeffrey B |

Beautiful park. Nearly all the trees are labeled and are from across the US and world. Well-maintained with nice walking paths.

Beautiful

By Kia W |

Well kept up. Nice people at the visitor's center! Very helpful. The gardens were clean and well marked.

Not the best garden in town

By Dwight T |

A nice garden and pond. Nothing particularly special here. Quieter than the commons so go here instead. You get the feel of the commons.

Public Gardens

By Rebecca S |

Beautiful and easily accessible. Loved that lots of the trees were labeled so we could ID them. Nice, free activity in Boston.

Beautiful

By Liz Doc |

Visited in December when snow was on the ground, absolutely freezing but the tree and scenery was lovely and put me so in the mood for Christmas. The squirrels come to say hello too lol

Beautiful gardens...nice to walk through.

By efustok |

Been around since the beginning of Boston's inception. It is a beautiful garden with lots of ducks, swans, and birds. People walking around, picnicking, or riding the swan boats, that are a tradition that dates from a long time ago. They are actually the original boats that have been around, so it is nice to see that they have lasted so long.

It has potential

By Adriana P |

Beautiful park/garden, right next to Boston Common. Easy to access via car, walking or public transportation. Many activities are closed due to Covid, but the park still has a lot to offer, especially on these sunny days.

Felt Safe Walking Around

By packerbeer |

There is the Commons, and the Public Garden. There is a road between them, but man is there a world of difference between the two. Here, you have people playing, walking dogs, children and parents. Nice paths and is a nice place in the city to get a way. You can end up at the Bull and Finch a.k.a. outside shot for tv show Cheers or posh stores like Tiffany. Always visit here when in town,

A must see!

By Traciem10 |

This is what a public area should look like. Everything was well manicured and clean with plenty of benches to enjoy the beautiful day. Great photo opportunities for visitors as well.

Relaxing and Beautiful

By Robert W |

My husband and I enjoyed the walk thru the Boston Public Gardens. The flowers were beautiful and the willow trees amazing.

Beautiful Park

By Andres72423 |

Historic Boston Commons. Beautiful park to take a stroll or just grab a bench and people watch. The gardens were beautiful especially early in Spring time. The weather was perfect for a stroll after catching a show in the theater district. Lots of people enjoying the day! They had the open market where people had tents and all kind of goods to sale.

Beautiful and Serene

By Laurie P |

Beautiful and serene park. This is a must do in Boston. We took a Swan Boat tour...short ride, but seemed like the thing to do in Boston.
Lots of places to sit, rest, and people watch.
You just gotta visit here while in Boston!!

Beautiful

So so beautiful with nicely arragn green lawns among different flowers and a pond. You could easily laze around here for a couple of hours and even take a ride on the pond in one of "The swans"!

GREEN SPACE IN BOSTON

By Tiffany H |

Beautiful day or night. Feels safe and a wonderful space to relax and enjoy. Great little area for kids and surrounded by history. Has a lovely lake and is central in Boston.

Average except when the lake is full and the flowers are blooming, then a 3.5/4

By Colleen P |

A nice green space in the center of Boston. You can walk completely around/through Boston Commons/The Public garden in an hour easy. That being said it has a cute lake and a display of tulips in the spring that draws people from all over to come and take photos in it.

It is nice enough to walk around. Their are occasional musicians performing around.

Beautiful in summer or winter

By Steve R |

Boston Public Garden is a must see in any season. Whether there are leaves on the trees or not. Just lovely. Enjoy the scenery! Don’t rush it. Stop and spend some peaceful time here!

Beautiful public area...

This is a lovely, quiet area to stroll around the grounds. The history and scenery are amazing. So many photo opportunities and just a great place to walk through and enjoy this section of Boston.

Fun stop

By Mark Barnes |

Our kids wanted to see the duck statues so we decided to stop here. Nice relaxing stop. Flowers were very pretty. It was also amazing how close the squirrels would get to you letting you feed them.

Beautiful Garden

By SJ S |

You can spend time just sitting in the shade or walking around. The Information Center is located adjacent to the park in Boston Commons, a good place to stop in for information.

The prettiest spot in Boston

By John |

By far this is one of the prettiest places to visit and relax in Boston. Loaded with beautiful flower gardens and magnificent trees, it is really the breath of fresh air you need when visiting a big city. It is a great place for people watching, elegant and central to everything. There is nothing more romantic or relaxing than a stroll through the garden

Unavoidable

By Toine87 |

A must-see in Boston. What's more surprising is that it's the city's number one attraction. But a green space in the heart of the city is invaluable. It's the local "central park" but smaller. And more peaceful too. It really gives you a feeling of being totally disconnected, you don't feel like you're in the city. It's ideal for a picnic

A joy to experience such beauty within the city scene!!

By MidwestKathM |

For a visitor to Boston, strolling through the Public Garden on its curved paths, enjoying the gardens with the occasional monument, all set against the Boston skyline, is a joy! On a recent late afternoon with the sun shining brightly, we found ourselves back in the Garden for the first time in 30+ years. Knowing that the Garden is the first botanical garden in the country, dating back to the mid-1800s, there is a feeling of history and tradition amidst all the beautiful flowers and weeping willows and other majestic trees! Saw the historic Swan Boats but they did not seem to be operating at the time of our visit.

Fabby

By Michelle C |

Great to have a wander round to get away from the bustle of the city. Lovely and tranquil atmosphere

Peaceful and relaxing garden

By Dana |

The garden was beautiful and peaceful. Was able to do the Swan boat ride on the last day. It was enjoyable and peaceful to ride after a long day of walking. Visited the ducks on parade. Very cute.

Impressive green space in heart of Boston.

By TheBrownHound |

This is a beautiful stop and shouldn't be missed. The grounds are clean and well manicured. We went twice during our stay and would go again next time in Boston.
