We stumbled across this awesome beach one morning at dawn.We were the only ones on the beach for 2 hrs.Very pretty place.5$ per hour parking charge.

We have been vacationing in Captiva for years but opted for Cape Coral this year since we brought our dogs along. We really wanted a solid beach day and chose Bowman’s. It did not disappoint! Very clean and MASSIVE so you don’t feel crowded. Parking and payment is a breeze via phone. Restrooms were very tidy considering the setting and volume of users.

Beautiful beach with sea shells scattered everywhere. My kids discovered larger shells farther from the crowds as they walked along the beach, washing up onto the sand.

very long beach but lots of shells. The walk isn't as long as some have written unless you have kids and lots of stuff to lug without a wagon. crowded near the boardwalk but if you want to walk it has lots of room to spread out and if you want to collect shells plenty of apportunity.

We rented a house in Cape Coral and took a couple of day trips to Sanibel Island to explore the beaches. This Bowman's Beach had SO many reviews, that we felt it imperative to explore this beach on our last day. After having visited Lighthouse Beach and the Blind Pass/Turner Beach area on a prior day, we were very disappointed with Bowman's. While it has more parking, the water itself was not the greatest. There are not a lot of waves for boogie boarding - we knew this would be the case, however despite this, there was a steep drop-off right near the shore, so if you have young kids or elderly parents, Lighthouse Beach is a much better bet, and the water there stretches for so long in the shallows and is very clear. We had found a lot of shells and sand dollars at Lighthouse and Turner Beach, but here we did not and the water was not so clear. The reviews for Blind Pass/Turner's Beach made those sound treacherous as if one couldn't get in the water, but it was the opposite there and much more enjoyable than Bowman's Beach. I hope others find this review helpful.

This is a very large and beautiful beach. They have amenities here such as changing rooms and a restroom. You pay for parking. It is a bit of a walk from parking to the beach (10 mins). The beach and in the water is not a sandy bottom but a sandy and shell bottom, wear swim shoes if you have them. A very nice beach with plenty of space.

My husband and I went to Sanibel Island for shelling. Bowman Beach was recommended to us, and it didn't disappoint! We came home with some great shells that we'll use in some crafts and gifts. When we went the beach it was still during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and it wasn't at all crowded. People practiced social distancing and respected the state mandate of no more than 10 people to a group.
My mother-in-law has been a frequent visitor to Sanibel Island and recommends getting out on the beach with a flashlight before daybreak to get the best shells first. My husband and I didn't do that, and we're pleased with our findings. Perhaps we'll try that next time.
Unless you stay at a beach front property, you'll probably have to park at one of the lots provided. Be prepared to pay at least $5.00 for the first hour and $2.50 for each additional hour you park there. That was the only downside that I could see for the beach.

Great beach but preferred Lighthouse Beach. I love to collect shells and lighthouse beach has great shells and nice beach to walk.

I'm not sure if the parking regulations are the same throughout the island as we've been to this beach but Sanibel Island Northern Beach but if they are you'd better off flying to the French Riviera. It's $5 an hour and strictly enforced. So if you plan on spending a full day at the beach you will tap a bill for $40-$50 for parking fees alone. Besides the beach itself can be described as mediocre at best. We stayed in Sarasota and decided to explore Sanibel. It turned out to be a complete waste of time and money. Sarasota and St Pete beaches are so much better it's not worth the trouble of driving to Sanibel.

Beautiful beach with great shells and white sand. Go to the tourist office for information on the tides and when the best time to go shelling is.

We arrived at the beach shortly before sunset. I believe it was $6 to park and a short walk to the beach. Not overly crowded, facilities were clean and there were lots of shells to hunt for! Great place to relax and soak in the evening.

One of our absolute favorite beaches on the gulf side. There is a small toll to come on to sanibel island but the sand and beach is the best. The Island itself offers so many cute shops and eating venues. The Beach offers shaded parking area that are a short 1/4 mile walk to the beach front. Parking is 5$ an hour. They have outdoor showers and a small outdoor changing location just near the beach plus indoor bathrooms plus cover picnic tables . The water was the perfect temp 70 degrees which was a wonderful reliefs from the 97 degree heat. I do recommend that you wear water shoes due to the abundance of shells especially the first few feet when entering the water. We found several sand dollars of various sizes while in the water. You may get lucky enough to see manatees as you walk to the beach.

Shelling was great, witnessed manatees in the canal on our walk to the beach. Clean beach, not over crowded. Only downside was the no-see-ums. I got eaten alive. Bring bug spray!

Beautiful deep beach with powder soft sand. Sadly the tourists blaring music and smoking and drinking basically ruin it for everyone around them. Last time I was there a family parked right next to me, set up their box with additional speakers, and proceeded to blast Spanish music at 80's nightclub levels. I go to the beach to relax and enjoy nature, not to go deaf.

Not impressed. It probably is very beautiful but the day we visited water was brown murky, red tide was in, many shells & dead fish. Long walk from parking lot. A lot of people.

Nice beautiful area. Didn't find many shells, but nice beach. Loved the walk to the beach. Bridge area was nice and scenic.

Nice long beach, but Wasn’t as special as We thought from reading about it and seeing pics. We could Have stayed in Ft Myers beach, not all that different.

We rented bikes from Fennimore's Cycle Shop and left our car there. It was a leisurely 50 minute ride on the trail to the beach. No concessions or umbrellas to rent. Good restrooms.

My wife and I were here 2/29/2024. Having read previous reviews on shelling we were anxious to get there and give it a shot. Well, as for shelling, we couldn’t have been more disappointed. We waded a couple of hours, but did not find even one fighting conch shell. As for the beach itself, it was great, and very spacious, but don’t be going there thinking you’ll easily get the “mother lode” of shells. It’s not going to happen. We’ve done a lot of shelling and this was disappointing.

The beach here is huge and the water is awesome as well as the shelling. This beach goes on and on and on so there is plenty of room for everyone.

Nice beach, we biked so didn't have to pay to park. There are bathrooms and an outdoor place to wash off. Super hot this day, no shade unless you bring it.

Nice beach. The parking lot is about a quarter mile walk from the beach - $5 per hour to park. Everything was clean and well maintained.

Beautiful clean beach. Great for kids and families. Parking was easy with honor system to pay. Very relaxing

My husband and I visited sanibel Island, just off the coast of Southwest Florida, last week. The weather was 80s and sunny every day, the beaches were pristine and go for 12 uninterrupted miles on each side of the island. Most of the beaches are public, and very well maintained. Sanibel is known as one of the premier shell-hunting islands in the world, so plan a few days of sunrise waking on the beaches. Rental bikes are a huge business, as the quaint, last century feel of the island makes it easier and faster to ride everywhere on bikes rather than in a car. The middle of the island is a nature preserve with roads criss-crossing it in discrete ways. While it is a relaxing place to visit, it is always crowded coming on and leaving the island, so allow plenty of time to crawl over the long causeway. Still, If you want to spend a few days with no worries or hustle and bustle, come visit Sanibel Island in March.

Beautiful beach! Great shells! Get there early otherwise finding parking will be tough. Pay for parking via the parking app.

This is a gorgeous public beach with picnic areas, a children’s park, changing rooms, delicious shady areas.
I have seen some families with their dogs. This beach is a great place to spend the day with the family and do a BBQ.
Pro tip: Make sure that you pay before walking to the beach.

We spent an afternoon at Bowman’s Beach and enjoyed every minute. It was a beautiful day- the water was very clear and the shells were plentiful. We enjoyed the short walk and even saw some manatees as we crossed the foot bridge to the beach. Will definitely return.

Nicely maintained beach park. Plenty of parking. Like all the county maintained beaches on Sanibel. We were very impressed - even saw maintenance crew blowing debris off the walkways in the early morning. Restrooms were cleaner then most found in restaurants. Loved the informational kiosks. Family friendly.

We have been going to Florida for over 20 years.
Sanibel hasn't actually been a destination for us for 5 years.
We now have much nicer beaches as our favorites.
On November 17th, 2023 we were on Sanibel to see what it looks like there now.
It was very sad to see what Hurricane Ian did.
Despite the restrictions, there were a lot of people on the beach on this weekday, most of them came with the pontoon boats.
The water was very brown, it smelled extremely of the washed-up seaweed.
Hardly any mussels, but we're not looking for them anymore anyway.
The really bad thing, apart from the damage, was the No See Ums.
We were there around noon, had rubbed ourselves with mosquito repellent, but my wife still got at least 40 bites.
And that was just from the lighthouse beach. We skipped Algiers or Bowmans Beach completely, there are small lakes and puddles everywhere, so probably even more mosquitoes etc.
SO...make sure you take local protection with you!!
By the way, parking only works with the mobile app, so get a US SIM card.

Loved this beach but however I saw a jellyfish. I was very scared and got out of water. It was right in front of my face.

This was a beautiful beach with white sand, perfect for shell collecting. The parking is a bit expensive compared to other nearby beaches, but it more than makes up for it with the fact that it wasn’t overcrowded. The parking is, however, about a quarter of a mile away from the access point. So, bring a way to carry your stuff. I saw plenty of families bring wagons to carry their coolers and beach items.
Once at the beach, there is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the scenery. Come early and BRING WATER SHOES! Shells are everywhere but can be sharp when standing in the water. My kids enjoyed bringing goggles to be able to search for shells. There are rinsing stations and restrooms as you walk to the beach.
There are no restaurants that are within walking distance, so if you get hungry, you’ll have to bring food/drinks/snacks with you. There are picnic tables nearby the beach access areas, however, if you can’t eat without a table.
We even saw a pod of dolphins swim and play nearby!

This was a great beach and not too crowded in October. However, the parking was $5/hr and the walk was a good quarter mile from the parking. I didn't have time to scope out a different beach (especially after I paid $10 for parking), but would definitely try another Sanibel beach next time.

You will get a parking ticket if your even 5min late. This beach as lost my business due to $300 in a parking ticket. A speeding ticket doesn’t even cost this much. I was walking back from Tarpon beach with a new born and 2 toddlers and got a ticket. The ticket guy Rick says I’m so sorry call them and see if they through the ticket away. I will be taking my business to fort myers beach or lovers key.

We love to wander this beach and collect shells of all sizes and colors. Very natural beach, no high rises in sight.

Water is okay nothing like some of the other beaches around the coast line. Be prepared to deal with a ton of shells

Beautiful beach with sooo many shells!! We absolutely loved this beach!! Very clean and well kept, easy to find, parking, etc.

Bowman’s is a great beach. Bit of a walk from parking, but worth it. Bathrooms and playground are newly remodeled. Great shelling. Very busy in season.

Beautiful beach. A walk of about 1/2 mile from parking to the beach. Spent a few hours soaking up the sun. The beach is known for its shelling. We got there at 8:00 and nothing. We were told we should’ve been there by 6am.

I don’t have any complaints. No high rises, beautiful beach with beautiful water. Restrooms were a bit of a walk, but at least they have them. Very family friendly, clean beach.

Bowman’s Beach is popular for good reason. It has ample beach parking, and when other San-Cap lots are full, there is a good chance you will find a space here. Just do not forget anything in the car because it is a .25-mile walk one-way. Look for manatees as you cross the bridge, they are commonly seen here. Amenities includes restrooms, changing rooms, outdoor shower, picnic tables and BBQ grills. It may be crowded near the boardwalk, but this beach is so big you will be able to find your own quiet spot. One of the reasons I love Bowman’s Beach is there are no hotels or condos nearby (unlike Tarpon Bay Beach which always feels crowded to me). Bowman’s is a great beach for walking and shelling. All of Sanibel’s beaches are covered in beautiful shells, so bring appropriate footwear unless you have feet of steel. About parking: yes, it is $5 per hour and strictly enforced. Don’t even think about testing your luck. The fine is $150. And remember, no parking roadside island-wide!

Beware of the parking scam!!!!
I arrived and thought I paid for 1 hour using their off brand confusing app
In 12 minutes they wrote me a 150 dollar ticket
Ok yes I was irritated then…….. I spent 22 minutes and then 29 minutes on the automated line to give up and pay it after unsuccessfully typing in the ticket number and license plate and being told citation not found on the rinky dink Sanibel parking phone number
The beach looked rough very few shells actually bought some from some enterprising kids !
I called the city to complain
And it was cathartic . They admit the system is confusing etc she was professional and pleasant
Guess what so Am I and I won’t go back for at least 5 years just my way of saying I get it the town is going to gouge anyone who shows up
Post Hurricane as business is way down and many dead plants and boarded up businesses.
Has anyone on the town council ever heard of a traffic circle ?
That stop sign and disinterested traffic cop at the entrance and exit provided me with the 90 minutes to sit on hold to get off the island after my brush with Barney Fife.

The parking set-up is a racket for the island to generate revenue and stick it to families who have small children and can’t make sense of the vague and poorly placed signs. If you blink and miss the ONE entrance sign that says you need to pay for parking (prior, which the sign clearly does NOT say) you will get a $150 ticket. To pay or contest the ticket you deal with a company in New York! HUH?!The vague, misleading and confusing signs are posted with this review. I should note that when we parked there were NO signs the whole length in front of the 10+ cars around us. The main sign we later found at the entrance suspiciously has wording covered up , and two other signs that say nothing about paying BEFORE or PRIOR to getting out of your car. Please look up the term “entrapment” and it will give you an idea of how Sanibel officials are escalating the revenue for the hurricane damage. So sad for law abiding tourists. They must not realize people talk about poor experiences on vacations. We are sticking to Siesta Key beach for all our future trips. There is a reason it has been voted best beach in the USA and a top beach in the WORLD!

Nice public beach with plenty of parking. Restrooms, changing areas, picnic table, playground and outside shower area

Bowman's Beach is a great beach for families with young children! It has bathrooms, shaded picnic tables, and a playground. These amenities are located right near the parking lot. The actual beach is a short walk from there. The beach is spectacular...white sand, a lot of shells, beautiful blue (relatively calm) water. The beach is very large so we had plenty of room to spread out. Please note that you must bring your own beach equipment (chairs, umbrella, etc) as you cannot rent this stuff at Bowman's Beach. Would definitely recommend!

Bowman’s Beach changes from hour to hour . From strong waves and few beach walkers to suddenly beach umbrellas and families and couples covering the sand. We are always surprised how fast the conditions and beach inhabitants change. We can always count on a beautiful sunset though.

We visited Bowman's Beach twice on our SWFL trip during Memorial Day weekend. We went once for sunset. There was ample parking for $5 an hour. We paid for an hour 7:45-8:45pm, which was perfect for watching the sunset and collecting a few shells. I would say that it is about a 5-10 minute walk from the car to the beach. I have limited mobility, but can walk. There are ramps that do help getting from the parking lot to the actual beach. The bathrooms are well kept. This beach area seems to be very popular during the afternoon. We returned the next morning to have an early beach day. Around 9am we parked in the same front parking spot as the night before. We had nice spot and enjoyed a few hours searching for shells and enjoying the water. Be careful of the currents. We noticed a few kids that were not being watched by their parents so that was concerning. As we left, cars were waiting for parking spots around 12:00pm. Overall, excellent parking and viewing for sunset. This would be my top pick for Sanibel Island for the sunset and early morning shelling.

I probably idealized Bowman's beach. Certainly, the beach is beautiful but I would not describe it as exceptional. What is exceptional, however, is Sanibel Island, its streets, its homes and its vegetation.

On of the worst beaches in florida. I have absolutely no idea why people go there. Parking fine is ridiculous $150 and there is mosquito epidemic , you will keep scratching your arms and legs for day’s. Avoid if possible.

This beach is fantastic, has lots of parking and sone amenities too, like restrooms and a changing area

The beach, once totally covered in seashells, has half the shells it once had. For shelling, you must have beach shoes. I found so many shells! I finally found a system that works. See the videos. You have to go into the water and catch the spiral type shells! I bought pendants and glued on shells for my 3rd grade students back in Philadelphia.

I have always read great reviews on how great this beach is. So, I decided to visit this beach on Sanibel Island. I was not too happy about paying the $6.00 to get to the island. But, I thought this must be worth it. Once we got to the parking lot, 5.00 per hour to park! Now this is ridiculous! Then, you have to walk at least 10 min from the parking lot to the beach. While walking, I was getting hammered by no see ums bugs! Okay, I thought, once I get beach , they will go away. Wrong! This was one of the worse beaches I have visited. I live in Florida, and visited quite a few beaches. There was no good seashells. Hence, the capital of Florida seashells. Maybe, it was not my lucky day or too busy getting eating alive by the bugs. Overall, I think there is no sense going to a beach you can’t enjoy afterwards. I have at least 50 bites all over by arms and legs. After two weeks, I am still itching these painful bumps. With no cream, spray, oils that can combat these suckers!

Biked out to this beach from out resort because of some of the reviews. Was a nice beach - very wide and open - but nothing really noteworthy. Walked up and down the beach a bit and saw some shells but nothing spectacular on that front either. It is a bit of a hike to the beach to parking - we rode our bikes out which shortened it a bit.

We spent a few hours at Bowman's Beach last Saturday. Parking is way better here -$5 an hour- than Captiva Beach - $25 for two hours. It's a nice beach, but wear your water shoes if you are planning to swim, because there is a lot of shells in the water.

Nice public beach, lots of shells. Have to pay to park ($5 1 hour, $1 more each additional I think).

This beach is a little hidden on Sanibel Island, but it's where the locals all go. It's huge and there is plenty of parking. There is a bit of a walk to the beach. The shelling was a little limited in terms of larger shells, but one of our favorites.

This was our kids favorite beach. We went there twice during our week on the island. We rode our bikes from our condo on Middle Gulf drive. It is quite a large beach. If you walk a bit you can have your own bit of beach to relax upon. I don't think the walk is that long, probably half a mile. If you bring a lot of stuff to the beach you may want to go to another beach.

Lovely beach we were able to access from our condominiums at Blind-Pass. While it's a bit of a walk from the parking area, it's worth it - long beach, lots of room to find your own little spot.

Bowman's Beach is so perfect. It is calm there is a lot more people if you go in the afternoon.
We went in the morning though. Perfect for finding shells ( please make sure that if you go there, before you take the shells home please make sure they are not alive!)
There is some sand but is is mostly tiny shells.
So many animals to see well you walk to the beach.
Water is warm! Amazing!!

Bowmans Beach was a great place to relax, do a little shelling & watch the waves. The facilities were clean & the beach was too!

We are staying on Middle Gulf Drive but went to Bowman's to see the best beach for shelling, supposedly. We were surprised that at a public beach parking was $5 a hour. Pretty hefty in my book. At any rate, the shells were scarce and there was a warning about contaminates in the pool of water between the beach and the gulf which made me a little anxious. We stayed only 30 minutes. The shells were much more plentiful and varied by the fishing pier near the lighthouse.

Bowman beach is a beautiful location and has been cleaned up very well after the hurricane. The sand is full of small broke shells which can injure a small child as it did my grandson aged 8 trying out his boogie board.

Was great for shelling. We were staying in Cape Coral so it was a drive with all the traffic. So bring some lunch and stay awhile! (Side note: if you want to find some great fossilized shark teeth go an hour or so depending on where you are north to Venice beach!)

Although its a bit of a walk to the beach, it is truly an amazing spot with seclusion if just make a right turn and walk along the shore a few minutes.

you will not be disapointed, only thing is you have to get there early, very small parking lot with only 20 or so cars to fit.

Hung out a Bowman’s Beach recently. Not super crowded due to the Covid19 Pandemic. Lots of social distancing but people still enjoying being out. Not my favorite beach to swim at, only because there was seaweed all along the stretch of this beach. Most people would just walk through it but it was hard for me and then have to come through it to get out 😐. I did it though and once past it, the swimming was so nice. Water is beautiful. We even saw dolphins playing on the distance.

Great beach and I found a big Conch. The carparking system is straightforward, and yes it works with non USA credit cards. There is even free WiFi so no problem connecting. Good restrooms.

Beautiful beach, nice clear greenish water. We even saw a manatee! Beach is very clean too! We went on a Saturday and there was plenty of room, wasn’t crowded at all.

We went to Bowman’s beach twice during our trip to look for shells. I recommend walking 20-30 minutes from the main area to find the best shells

Went on a Saturday morning, 3/27/21. Got there ~ 10:30am and got parking spot in main lot. Reviews here complain about the walk from the lot to the beach. It’s not that long of a walk. Beach wasn’t that crowded except for the immediate are near the boardwalk entrance. Great beach for long walks. We were by ourselves most of the way. Tons of little shells and occasional bigger ones.

Changing area and restrooms, long walk to beach, good amount of parking which is $5/hour, long stretch of beach, but it's getting busier and fuller all the time. Last several times we've been here, there have only been small shells, and not the quantity that there used to be. Still nice beach and ocean entry.

For me it is one of the most beautiful beaches. I really like the little path to reach the beach.
There are so many shells it’s a bit of a treat, I was able to observe a manatee in the distance.
The beach is infinitely large and long so don't panic to find a place.
And to reach the beach there is a kind of park, it’s very clean, trash cans, toilets, bench, barbecue etc… it’s really cool.
I recommend for a good beach day to enjoy the sun, the beach and the shells.

We stayed at Blind Pass Condos which has a walking path that leads to Bowman’s Beach. We were there in June, the water was warm & we played in the water a lot. Beach is great and has lots of shells. We took bikes down Silver Key Trail that runs 3.5 miles behind the beach. If you head out to the end of the trail there were no people and mountains of shells. We picked up so many perfect shells that we eventually had to stop because we just didn’t need any more! We had several close encounters with stingrays, the water was a bit cloudy from storms going through so the stingrays could easily sneak up on you. They’re not aggressive.. but not everyone’s cup of tea.

Clean beach with good parking. Clean restrooms. No sign directing you to the beach, but once you get there it’s worth the visit!! Great place to visit!

We were able to get lots of shelves at the speech. It was a long walk out to the beach but it was very nice and it was a beautiful evening out there

This was a lovely change from the small beach out front of our vacation cottages. The parking the easy, but be sure the pay adequately (we expired and were ticketed within 15 minutes!) From the parking lot you must walk some 200 yards to the beach. On the path there are clean bathrooms, changing areas, and a nice shaded playground. The beach is lovely, bigger waves than at our cottage, but still casual enough for kids to play in without huge concern. Lots of sand to spread out on, though we went mid-week and there were not a lot of people to distance from. Overall, a lovely beach and well worth the parking fee ($5 to start, then $2.50/ hour)

Sanibel Island is approx. 29 miles from Cape Coral area. I always want to travel here and boy was I not disappointed.
A year after Hurricane Ian, you can still see the devastation but they are slowly recovering from it.
I went to Bowman's Beach to check it out. Trust Me, you won't be disappointed. The white sand, blue water, beautiful scenery and the piles of shells from the Gulf. I could live here. I love shell collecting and sun worshipping. In two hours I was red all over, lol.
The best time to go shell hunting is the day after a storm, holiday or a weekend. From sunrise for approx. 3 hours you will be virtually be alone.
Here are a few pictures I took.

Wonderful beach to visit , shelling, swimming, picnic, people watch, read book. Grounds were clean and playground seemed new and clean. Despite all the warnings about parking problems, I arrived at2:30 and there were lots of parking. Nice that you can get a text to lyk that time will expire 15min and you can add money from Your phone to extend parking. Recycling available. Bathrooms, and fishing line recycling. And THE SUNSETS .. words will never do that awesomeness justice.

Stopped here for just an hour to look for shells. While we didn’t find anything special, we did notice there was good parking, showers, rest rooms, changing rooms, and clear water for swimming.

Very clear water, clean soft sand. This is just a beautiful beach and a short walk away from parking, showers and bathrooms. It will cost you 5.00 per hour to park here but for what you get in return it's worth it.

We visited with our young kids to look for shells and swim. It seemed kind of a party beach. There were large groups playing music. You also have to walk about a quarter mile or so to get from the parking lot to the beach.
There were medium waves but the undertow was not bad. There are a lot of shells. We got there around noon and still found a lot of shells, just not really large ones.
Also had a flush bathroom, showers, and changing areas near the parking lot.

Each person is different and this beach could be awesome or just ok for you. Parking is far from the beach. If walking a good distance isn’t your thing, you might not like it here. Very clean restrooms. all kinds of walking trails and picnic areas on the grounds before you get to beach. You cross a bridge over a river where people were kayaking. Water was very dirty though. Large Long Beach when you get there. Not soft sand. Wear water shoes. Water was somewhat clear. Carrying chairs and a bag and umbrella was a lot. So excited to collect shells and there were none to be had. Each tide will bring something different I guess, or not. We were disappointed.

Went to look for shells and there were none to be found. Another disconcerting thing was a public beach oarking was 5$ and hour. No shade whatsoever on the beach.

We wandered over here in the car yesterday. Drove all of Sanibel Island.. what a pleasant drive. Stopping here has a changing outdoor roomm, bathrooms and a walk to the beach. Nice shell beach but mostly smalls. EVERYONE picks up shells here so not a lot left. I was here wIth two friends from Europe and one gal picked up loTs to take home with her. She said she wasn’t but she did. Lol. We sunbathed while she picked! It actually got hot ! The weather has been a bit iffy and chilly. They have not been able to Swim in the ocean yet!! It’s been cold here in Jan. I actually got a bit pink even with sunscreen. Ah and there is $5 hr parking.

This beach is on the quieter side of the island, away from the hustle and bustle and crowds. We went for sand, shells, and sunset and it did not disappoint. We stayed at the property across from the parking lot so did not have to deal with parking and driving. Long stretches, no resorts, low crowds.

We went to Bowman’s Beach two separate days with similar experiences. It’s very crowded, and you have to pay $5 an hour to park, but the lots are big so the chances of finding a spot are better than the other beaches. Also—the beach is bigger so more room to spread out. It’s a little bit of a hike to the beach BUT we spotted manatees—including a mom and baby—on every walk, so that’s awesome. Water I beautiful; not as clear as near the lighthouse but a beautiful color. We didn’t find conch or sand dollars, but we had a great day playing in the gulf.

Although we were definitely disappointed by the lack of quality shells that the Sanibel Island beaches are known for, we had a good & rollicking time standing in the surf, hand-dredging for shells & getting a good, wild ocean "bath" at the same time as the tide came in (we started looking during the ebb tide but, post-low tide, the waters came in REALLY quickly). We had a few, successful finds shelling in this manner. As for the beach, it is nice & long with lots of folks walking it, has a lot of detritus on it, mostly natural, ocean things such as dried twigs, lots & lots of old & calcified shells, dried beach grass & those super cool "Mermaid necklaces" that hold whelk eggs in their flat, opaque pods. They were everywhere as you walk northward on the shoreline. The beach is fairly crowded closer to the parking lots ($5/hour to park & there are bathrooms, showers, water fountains & history/geography info between the parking area & the beach) & thins out after around 5 PM. The water gets rough pretty quickly as the tide rolls in but offers great sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.

Beautiful beach! Shells amazing. Big beach and all the facilities you could want. Loved it! Would highly recommend

A bit disappointed with the beach. Just because we had to pay 5.00 an hour/no change given. We were staying at a hotel in the beach so this beach didn't offer anything we haven't seen. Be prepared to walk a bit before you see the water. They do have facilities available and they are clean.

Tough navigating the traffic on Sanibel, but bthis beach was worth it. Nice amenities, good rest rooms, kids play area, not real crowded in the AM, great for walking and shelling. I didn't really see anyone swimming though. Though they do have a lot of picnic tables and grills for family cooking and/or lunch
Visit the Sunset Grill for a great meal after the beach.

This was a great beach for walking and shelling, although by the time we got there (10:00am) all the shells are pretty picked over. I would suggest getting there early in the morning for the really good ones!

I love Bowman's Beach! Plenty of parking (pay by the hour), restrooms, a changing area, picnic tables, a playground for the kids, a bike rack and of course the beautiful beach! It is a bit of a hike, so do plan on walking a little once you've parked. I've visited quite a few times and have never walked right out onto the beach to find shells. You definitely have to do a bit of walking but have always been rewarded. Bring your food! There is a soda machine there but no concessions.

Sanibel is still rebuilding not many restaurants open so do your research before. Recommend stopping at the Visitor Center first. Extremely friendly staff which provided excellent information.

I had visited 3 years ago and loved it. Perhaps the difference today was the time of year. The beach was littered with red sea grass, and the shells were pretty uniform. My kids were less than impressed. I am not giving up on it though....blame the time of year not the beach

Wonderful place, full of nature and very relaxing. Beautiful beaches and good restaurants with fresh produce. Relaxed and calm atmosphere

We had a great morning on the beach and it is beautiful! If you love shelling this is your beach! The park and restrooms are well kept and clean. Be prepared for some high dollar parking if you stay for a long time. I wish they would just offer a day pass for all of the beach parking areas.

We did a quick stop here for some walks and a mention of turtle habitat. The parking fee is ridiculous, $5.00 for an hour so if you are going for a day at the beach, go elsewhere. There are many trails but all pretty much the same and no turtles. The restroom facilities are very nice and clean. Once was surely enough because of the parking.

We walked the beach different times of the day and it was covered with shells everywhere. We brought back the most shells ever from all our beach trips!

Nice beach with good facilities. Arrive early to get parking and you pay via app or website. There is wifi at the payment stand if you have poor cell service. Parking is $5 an hour, but you get notifications when you're time is close to ending and you can add more time from your phone.
There are lots of good and large shells to be had, but you have to look in the right places for them. We made the same mistake as most people and were looking for them on the waters edge. We learned from others that the best pickings are further away from the water, between the sea grass and the mound on which the side-by-sides drive on. If you walk down the beach passed everybody you'll have more shells than you know what to do with.
Big shells are all over. The interesting and more unique shells are usually found while digging through the big patches of shells, far away from the water. When in doubt ask the people with big bags of shells where to look.

The beach area is very large and can accommodate lots of people without feeling crowded. Take a trail north or south from the parking area to get to a less crowded spot. I appreciate the care and maintenance of this area to make it accessible, but clean and supportive of the wildlife.
It was windy, and a little chilly, when we visited.

Nice beach but a long way to walk from parking area. Sanibel parking is like $5 an hour at all of their beach parking areas. BUT if you have a handicap card to hang from your rear view mirror, then parking is FREE.

We will NEVER return here or Sanibel Island for a day trip............parking fees are ridiculous and we received a $150 citation at the end of the day. We planned to return with a large group in March and the city of Sanibel will get no money from us or any family ever again. Why drive visitors away with ridiculous penalties???

Not my favorite beach on Sanibel. It’s a bit of a hike to the beach. Water not as calm as the other Sanibel beaches. Not as many shells on this particular visit. It’s just an okay beach.

Covered with beautiful shells. So beautiful- like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Blankets of shells everywhere. I arrived at 3 pm in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.

Parking is pricy ($5/hr)but same as rest of the island so if you can, ride bikes. Nice little playground in the shade for the kids, bike/walking paths throughout. Lots of picnic tables with grills. The beach is great for strolling/shelling. It is a good walk from the parking lot to the beach so if you’re bringing lots of stuff, better bring a wagon. We were there in Dec so not crowded at all.

My family considers this beach our all time favorite. Large sandy area with lots of shelling. Great Gulf waters make this a must do beach. We have seen manatee, dolphins, and numerous fish and birds here.

Visited in August an hour before sunset. It was a nice beach to walk on. 5 min walk from parking lot to sand. Shells on the sand at low tide were just ok on this day. Recommend not to visit for sunset on a day with no breeze. The no-see-ums were quickly upon us and they seemed unaffected by insect repellant.

Bowman ' s Beach is located at the western end of Sanibel Island. It was suggested as the best place for seashells. It is a beautiful spot where you can view and swim in the Gulf of Mexico. It was not crowded and long walks along this 5 mile stretch can be taken in either direction. There are washrooms and picnic tables available for a long stay. There is an hourly parking fee which is closely monitored.

It blows my mind that people cannot pick up their garbage. After using the bathroom, I wanted to wash my hands but couldn't get near the sink because someone was washing their FEET!! Yes, their FEET!!!
I guess this is what people come to expect at a public beach.

It’s like any beach, timing is everything. I have found some of my best shells here!! I was shocked to read a review saying no unique shells. Sand dollars, lightning whelks, tulips, shark eyes, and much more. I even saw a shark swimming near shore one day. It’s my favorite beach!

A great beach for those who just want to relax! Unspoiled by shops and high rises as are all the beaches on Sanibel. Bowmans is long a wide offering plenty of space for social distancing and long walks. This is the best beach on Sanibel to watch the sunset! The island tips south so you need to go to the northern end of you want the sun to set over the water! This beach is 10-12 miles north of the causeway so it’s a bit out of town (good and bad).parking is about 1/4 mile from the beach but so is it at Tarpon. The bathrooms are clean and there are separate changing areas. Finally as you go over the creek bridge you are likely to see manatees. I did and was later told “they are usually there”

Soft sands, albeit lots of shells, and big waves. Beach seems well-kept, with nice amenities like a playground for the kids. Will be back!

There are lots of shells, but I feel that $5 to park for one hour is a little ridiculous. I realize that "everything" is overpriced, because you are on an island, but golly.

Very pretty beach, lots of shells and great swimming. Also a wonderful place to take a long walk. The major con in the parking fees. RIPOFF! $25 to park there for the afternoon? Thanks county gov parasites, we're taxed enough already and the people own the beach.

REMEMBER THAT IN FLORIDA HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACES WITH PLACARD OR LICENSE PLATE HAVE NO FEES EVEN WHEN THERE IS A CHARGE FOR REGULAR PARKING SPACES. i ONLY SAW TWO SIGNS STATING THIS BUT IT IS FOR ALL OVER THE STATE.
This island is so famous for shell hunting I wish they would make the effort to offer assistance for mobility handicapped individuals then publicize it widely. We parked in the large parking area but the long path to the beach was loose gravel or shells making it impossible for me to go in my wheelchair so I waited in the car. I would have loved to watch my young grandchildren in the waves and hunting shells. If they would just pave the path and a pad on the beach where wheelchair users could park and feel a part of the activity. Just doing this at one beach isn't asking too much then have signs telling people of this amenity.

My wife and I recently stayed in Cape Coral on vacation. While there we spent a day at Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel Island. This is a great beach. The downside is that they charge $5. an hour for parking. There are a lot of shells and my wife loves to collect them. The sand is very nice and the beach is very well kept. We enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend this beautiful site.

I love this beach! It is exactly how it is described. No real beach area just seashells every where. If you enjoy searching for seashells, don't even hesitate about coming here.

Easy parking, short walk to beach, very clean property. Has restrooms and boardwalk. Not too busy. Could enjoy day there, but we stopped just for sunset.

The ONLY things that made it 4/5 are the no-see-ums and all the debris in the murky water! Shelling was freaking amazing!

This is a beautiful beach with clean amenities for picnicking beach goers. It was a lovely sunny day when we visited and the beach was not very crowded.

We spent 2 days here..there isn't shade so go prepared. It is great for swimming, shelling, walking, and the facilities at the carpark are good.

The beach itself was nice. Far from the shelling paradise everyone talks about. I personally wouldn't pick this location for shelling

We got to Bowman's super early for shelling, but as the weather had been mild, there wasn't that prolific of shelling. Beautiful and peaceful. $5/hour for parking.

Beautiful, clean beaches. Shells of all kinds everywhere. Plenty of scenic areas for relaxing & miles & miles of beach for walking. Spectacular sunsets to end your day!

Sanibel and Captiva never disappoint! We’ve been vacationing there since 1971. We've passed down our love of the islands not only to our children, but to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. It has been a family tradition for many years.

The National Shell Museum was the highlight of visit to Sanibel Island. It's an extraordinary learning experience about sea life and the multiple uses of shell over the millenium.

Its a beautiful beach nice and clean .. Things to WATCH OUT ?????
Parking FEE is very expensive $5.00 per hour if miss one min or so that you will get ticket for $100.00
No one available to pay the Toll Road ..They closed the booth and so you cant pay for the tool FEE which is extra pain ..
Shame quite a few people lost their job due to closing the Toll Booth ...
they could implement better way of paying the toll or the parking Fee so people can park knowing that they wont get ticket of $100.00 if missed the time ..
Pay online system or Ticket at the entrance from the machine then pay on way out will make life much easier and less stressful for everyone ..
By charging hourly rate it does create a worry and rush so then people cant enjoy their stay at the beach!!!
I feel like the way it's planned to create more income so they can ticket as many people as possible this way .. which is very Disappointing ..
i hope this will help brothers and sisters whose is going to visit this beautiful Island .
PS: Dont have the a big expectation to collect many shelves . you will be disappointed not finding many shelves like my family .

Saw a lot of marine wildlife. There were three Dolphins, must have been feeding, jumping out of the water maybe 10 feet high. This lasted for at least five minutes. One after the other, Wife and I thought we were watching some sort of show....It was spectacular, people were clapping after the performance.

Just a Beautiful Beach.... Went on 2 different days, to collect the shells. It was cheap to park and walk down to the beach.

I feel quite differently about his beach than other readers. This may be due to the fact I live near St. Pete beaches and we have our own beautiful beaches and I went with high expectations. This was our 1st time visiting this beach and I will say we will not return. My husband did not think highly of this beach either. Parking is difficult to find and expensive. We had to drive a round the lot a few times before we could secure a spot. Parking was 5 dollars an hour, so to stay 4 hours was 20 dollars. Depending on where you park determines the length of the walk to the beach, we were at the end of the lot so it was a bit of a distance to reach the beach. Since it was our 1st time there we had no idea you would need a beach buggy/wagon to carry your things. We would of had to make a couple of trips to carry all of our items (chairs, umbrellas, cooler, ect). There is also no chair/umbrella rental available on the beach. The sand is not "white sand", it is actually fairly course. To get to the water you have to walk over quite a bit of shells. Stepping in and out of the water can be difficult, we watched a women fall trying to get out of the water due to the incline. Entering the water you also are dealing with small pieces of shells so if you have sensitive feet I would suggest water shoes. Once in the water you are still dealing with more shells and rocks but it is not as bad as the area walking into the water. If you are a shell collector you will find plenty.

So Bowman’s beach is really nice beach but make sure you wear shoes theres a walk before you have to get to the beach where you have to cross one bridge and a walkway that is very hot for bare feet trust me I found out the hard way but there is a bathroom before you get there and a shower so the beach is very nice clean sand clean beach not too crowded dog friendly also.

Parking is plentiful, but costs 5 dollar an hour. There is toilets with wheelchair access, showers and change boots too. Takes 5 minutes to walk to the beach. There is one roofed place with benches, or you have to bring chairs. Like other beaches on Sanibel you can find shells, and watch the birds.

Worth the price. $5/hour. But great facilities and plenty of room to roam the expansive beach. The water is clearer here and we had a great day on the beach.

Amazing beach. Gorgeous and so many shells. We had so much fun shelling and my kid built sandcastles. I have never seen so many beautiful shells in nature. I would recommend water shoes. All the shells are brutal on the feet.

We loved the white sand and color of the ocean. It’s just gorgeous. The bathrooms, changing area and rinse area were a plus and clean. The beach wasn’t over crowded either and we found some cool shells!! Loved it!

You will make a lot of effort to get to this beach and it used to be worth it. Not so much anymore. Beach is located towards the top of the island, it is a long drive snaking through slow traffic. It is quite a hike from the parking lot to the beach. Most people just camp out right at the walkway entrance, which leads to a noisy cluster of kids and radios. I like a more quiet beach experience, which involves additional walking either way to try and get some peace and quiet. So door to door from beach to car could easily be 20 minutes. Also this year there were relentless flies. Every single time for two months.
Shelling used to be plentiful here, but now it is only the shellers that are plentiful. Everybody and their brother is out shelling. It also used to be mostly women who shelled and I noticed that they mainly stuck to the shoreline and beach. Now that the men have joined the craze, the ante is upped. Observe masses of people wading through hip deep water trying to capture the elusive shell that they hope the 50 people before them did not notice. Observe people floating around far out in snorkel gear, perusing the gulf bottom for shells. Observe everybody coming to the beach armed with a sheller's net and carry bag for their treasures.
That said, I found better beaches and better shells in other places. Those places shall remain unnamed as I don't want the world following me there. In fact, that's what ruined Sanibel - everybody blabbing about it on social media.

Such a very pretty beach with nice big waves. We loved the manatees in the river along the walk. Will visit again.

This was one of the most BEAUTIFUL beaches I’ve ever been too! Gather tons of cool shells, seeing dolphins was amazing and the sunset was breathtaking.
Don’t be in a hurry to leave because it took us 2 hours from the time we left Bowmans beach until we got home which is typically only a 35 min trip.

I loved this beach! The water was so clear and the sand was soft....It was a bit shelly but not too bad. There was a bit of red seaweed though. The parking situation is awful. We got there around 12ish and the parking lot was absolutely full. We spent 30 minutes circling and trying to find a spot before we just decided to be dropped off. Be careful when walking down the whole beach to they right from the entrance.... a couple of miles down there were some nude sunbathers... near a shipwreck. We just looked away and continued walking. I’ve heard that this beach used to be clothing optional but it is DEFINITELY not allowed anymore. The beach was a bit crowded...( we went on a Sunday in spring Break) but you could hike a bit farther down and find a spot very peaceful and secluded. It wasn’t wavy at all and the ocean was warm. Also keep in mind the 6$ fee to go to the island and the walk to the beach is a bit long. OVERALL IT IS A GREAT BEACH!

It is a beach, a very crowded beach with a long walk from the parking lot. Yes there are shells, lots of shells, but I could not get over the crowds. Traffic to get there (on a Friday) was terrible and it took us about 45 minutes to travel 6 miles or so.
Coming from the Caribbean with huge nearly empty beaches I guess I am spoiled.
We are glad we went to see it but I would not return.
BObK

This is the beach further north, which I understand gets less busy. I managed to accidently drive past the nearer more southernly beach (missed the sign).
Arrived around 11AM. There were queues on the road, but this was a consequence of an art festival. Once passed this the roads were clear.
At this location parking was plentiful and reasonably priced.
Access to the beach was easy with changing, rest room, and showering facilities.
The beach was long and not particulary busy. Weather was fantastic (good as a UK summers day!).
Beach was a mix of sand and shells. Saw plenty of people collecting shells.

Spent 4 hours shelling and didn't want to leave. Found so many shells. Also saw several dolphins close to the shore line.

Bowman’s beach is great for shelling and relaxing without large crowds.
There are plenty of parking spaces & the cost is $5/hour. Paid parking is strictly enforced and they do have someone who comes around and checks for your parking receipt on the dash. It’s definitely cheaper to pay for parking than to get a $150 fine. The walk to the beach is .25 miles one way.
The beach has bathrooms, outside dressing rooms, showers to rinse sand off, a playground, picnic tables and trails.
The beach is big enough to spread out and not be right on top of the person next to you. Just stay clear of the marked areas for sea turtles. We love that there aren’t any buildings in sight, just sand and water! I’d recommend water shoes as there are lots of shells, in and out of the water. We found several keepers within minutes. We love Sanibel Island and this beach did not disappoint!

Went to Bowman's Beach to get away from the crowds at Ft Myers beaches during February break. Less crowded, a bit of a drive but just what we were looking for. Sand is not as fine as some other beaches but don't be wimp.

One of the best beaches on Sanibel - terrific for shelling, heron and egrets gather when people are fishing here,so it's an opportunity to see these magnificent birds up close!

We drove to Bowman’s Beach to escape the red tide in siesta key and so glad we made the drive. Definitely worth it! The water was beautiful and gentle. Great place for kids especially if they love looking for shells. I recommend arriving early since the crowd grew the later it got. Even though the parking lot looked full when we left the beach is large and it didn’t feel crowded. Parking is $5 dollars and hour and you pay when you go in. I also recommend bringing water and snacks as well as a wagon to pull your things to the beach. There is a 1/4 mile easy walk to the beach from the parking lot. They have nice restrooms past the parking lot and a changing area. We will definitely go back!

Only stopped for a brief look. It is gorgeous with plenty of room to spread out. Bathrooms are available.

Nice beach like typical gulf beach with an expensive parking. 5 dollars per hour.
The beach is clean but the water was very warm. Not to much shadow and if you don’t have an umbrella you are out of luck.

Bowman's Beach is away from all the development on Sanibel, so it is very peaceful, although a lot of people sometimes come here to enjoy the beauty of the area.
Sometimes there are good shell piles here, but like anywhere else on Sanibel, sometimes there are hardly any special shells at all here.

My wife and I recently stayed in Ft Myers for a couple of nights. While there, we drove over to Sanibel Island and to Bowman’s beach. This is a very nice beach and we enjoyed walking along gathering shells. We would recommend this place.

Parking at $5 per hour but that allows you to access a beautiful beach made mostly of shells. Before accessing the beach you can use the bathrooms (quite clean) and changing rooms to change.

Got a parking ticket while trying to pay online meter maid said tough
two months later did court zoom judge said tough had proof of payment court said tough tried to pay 150.00 for ten minutes of parking couldn’t do on line couldn’t do on phone had to mail cash what a racket
Skip Sanibel

We never actually saw this beach because the walk to it was so long and it was so hot we turned back. Beach may be lovely, but be prepared for a hike!

With other beaches on Sanibel closed for the 4th of July weekend, we chose to spend some time at this beach. Parking is plentiful ($5 per hour) but it is a LONG walk from the lot to the beach. Bring a wagon or enlist plenty of friends to help carry your gear. THe beach is very wide and we had plenty of room to put up a tent and maintain social distancing. The water was warm and swimming was fun. If you're heading to the beach later in the day, this one would have a great sunset.

Beautiful wide beach. We found other beaches more full of shells, but this particular beach beats the others in terms of beauty.

We visited here based on sightings of sea glass and the beach. We did not expect the murky waters that came with it. Realizing the area is still rebuilding, there were also very few amenities open, which we expected but the beach itself was disappointing. Traffic and parking costs didn't help, unfortunately.

I was really hoping when I came here it would be something spectacular. when I arrived there's a parking area where you have a parking meter you have to pay and put the ticket on your dash in your car. There is a short walk to get to the actual Beach area. Along the way there is a restroom and water soda machine. Upon getting to the beach the saint wasn't as soft as I thought it would be and the amount of shells was just average.I'm glad I came here to see it but I think a lot of the reviews went out of their way to say this was a spectacular Beach.

Great beach for shelling, especially after a storm. Parking is a bitch, and $5 an hour, and the method to pay for it is outdated, but generally there are spots. Rolling small waves and nice temps make this a good family spot. Not a spring break party spot. Bring shade and chairs and drinks. Collect cool shells with the kids. Enjoy the sunset. Bugs come out at dawn and dusk. Bring bug spray for these times. I’m no joke eaten up from the walk back. Clean bathrooms too. Enjoyed this place minus the bugs.

You would think with four large parking lots that they could accommodate one more car. But what we found at this beach and every other beach on Sanibel and Captiva Islands is that can be impossible to find a parking place. Not only were all of the public parking lots full but there is absolutely no off street parking anywhere on the islands. This meant that we ended up driving around for over 1 1/2 hours and never once saw the water. This occurred for the next two days driving up and down the Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida as well. This is one part of the world that we won’t ever be returning to.

This had to be the worst beach ever. Over rated making people think there’s plenty of sea shells there. The only sea shells in sanibel are in their gift shops. What a joke. Then you have to pay 5$ an hour for parking absolutely ridiculous. We paid for three hours thinking we would spend that much time there but after seeing nothing worthwhile we left after about 45 minutes. We gave our parking ticket to another couple. Beach was completely neglected and dumpy. No worthwhile sea shells to be found. Would have been better off spending the parking fee $15 at s sea shell store. Look at the pictures and avoid this place. We couldn’t wait to get back to our hotel on the beautiful beach in Fort Myers.

Gorgeous, expansive beach. lots of space to spread a blanket and enjoy some privacy the sun. There’s plenty of beach for everyone to enjoy. The trip from the parking lot to the beach is like a little adventure. The shelling is amazing! Walk with bags! Facilities are available and parking is $5. Per hr.

The drive was a bit long and we were trying to hurry for sunset. After parking, we walked a bit until we rounded the corner and found the beach. It’s a beach of shells! Wish we could have went during the day when we could see better. The sunset was beautiful too.

Plenty of space on the sand for everyone. Parking is pricey and the walk from the parking lot is a haul, but the beach is wide open. Bring an umbrella if you want any shade at all. Plenty of shells wash up if you're into shelling.
Showers, bathroom and Coke machine available as well.
Great beach to hear the waves, watch a sunset, get your toes in the sand and read a book.

We had a great time at this beach. Sand was nice and even though there were a lot of people that day, it's big enough that we had our space. There is also a nice restroom/wash area. Plenty of parking also.

Long walk to the beach but it was beautiful! We found some nice shells and the sunset was breathtaking! I would definitely suggest going to this beach if you have a chance! Make sure you bring bug spray!

Went early and got prime parking that does cost big bucks. The beach is sugar sand and was perfect. Our shelling was nice and the crowd built until we left at noon.

We tried a few beaches until we found Bowman's beach. For my family this is the best place. There are only two minuses: it takes about an hour from Cape Coral; no cafe, just vending machine. The beach is very long and sandy with lots of shells. Many people walk for shells hunt. We saw dolphins and pelicans. It is also a best place for sunset. As everywhere on the island $5 per hour parking and $6 toll bridge on the way to the island. The beach is a paradise. Once you come, you don't want to leave.

I love Sanibel because of the multitude of shells. Bowman's Beach is lovely, has restrooms, but is a walk from the parking lot.

We had been to Sannibel twice before and never went at this beach. What a mistake. This place is great especially if you have kids.

The only negative I can say was the price to park! The beach itself was beautiful. You can see they put effort in to keep it clean and had great bathroom facilities. Shells everywhere although I think you need to bring some sifters and colanders so you can catch the best shells out in the surf. We got there early, were able to pick a prime spot and enjoyed the sun and shells.

We got there at high tide on a windy day. The waves were rough and it was a no go for me. When I took a beach walk, my husband and two girls gave it a go. They had a bucket full of awesome shells they had pulled up going out about shoulder high. We ended up having a blast although I was wary of being out too far, my family loved catching the waves. Made a shell addict of my husband!

Visited here with the family over New Year’s. Beach was a little crowded and difficult to find parking. Parking lot is very clean as are the bathrooms. Nice areas to rinse off the beach sand and change clothes. Parking is five bucks an hour but that is the going rate for the area. Pleasant walk of about five minutes from the parking lot to the beach. Might be a struggle if you bring a lot of stuff or small children. Each is a little difficult to walk on with bare feet due to the broken shelves. Flip-flops would be a good choice. Most people stop at the first bit of sand that they find but if you walk five minutes up or down the beach it becomes very secluded. Nice place to spend a few hours!!

This is a nice, clean area with lots of room for families, sun bathers and beachcombers. The parking fee is $5.00 an hour and there is a healthy walk from the parking lot to the beach. But the bathrooms are clean, there were no party groups on the beach, and the only disrupters were seagulls. Great pelican watching as well!

This is our favorite beach. It was great to see lots of people enjoying the sun. Great location for shell hunting as well. Dog friendly beach. We always hit this beach when in the area.

decent amount of parking with restrooms good shelling and decent sand for lounging . beach was not very crowded when we were there

Happy to pay a reasonable fee for parking, but 5/hr is exorbitant. Walk to beach was.very long for people with babies.

Anyone you ask says you want to find good shells go here, well they are RIGHT! Bowman's beach does not disappoint! Could have spent all day ! Went for a few hours and came home with a bucket of shells no lie.

What a wonderful place! The park is beautiful! Lots of shells, playground equipment, and picnic tables. We also saw a couple of Manatees. Worth a visit!

The most beautiful beach we went to! The beach was quiet in the AM and plenty of space. The water was warm and plenty of big waves, we loved it!!

This was the 2nd time we have visited Bowman's Beach Park. We love the small crowds at this beach, unlike resort beach fronts. We decided to stay off the island during this visit to Sanibel, because we planned to only visit this beach. During a previous visit, we stayed at a beachfront hotel on Sanibel and drove to this beach.
There is a bit of a walk from the parking lot, but it is worth it to not be crowded. We literally had at least 20+ yards between our umbrella and the nearest person. While it wasn't like we were on a private beach, it was definitely unlike our recent visit to Nags Head, NC. If you are willing to walk north up the beach some distance, you can get to where you cannot even see other people on the beach.
At the beach, we saw some dolphins up very close to the beach, a manatee in the gulf, and large Tarpon fish jumping. The water is fairly shallow, so you can walk out a decent distance without being over your head.
We stayed until the evening on our first day and enjoyed the sunset.

We went at low tide and were told since there hasn’t been a storm recently that the shells would not be that great. It was fun but next time would get the baskets on a stick to dig around out at the breaks and would also get goggles since we were told today that it’s best to go in the water and feel with your feet for the bigger shells!

Nice day at the beach shelling and hanging out. It was nice. The sand was soft and very inviting. But what sucks about Captiva is you are not allowed to go to the north side of the island which is private.

This beach was nice, the waves were slightly rough but the water didn’t go beyond hip level. Right at the start of the water it’s coveredddd with seashells but once you walk past the shells there was quite the drop off but way less seashells. I swear I kept touching fish but the water isn’t clear to confirm what I touched. I didn’t really find any magnificent seashells like some people talk about. Bathrooms are decent for being a beach bathroom.

Really nice beach. Went in off season so parking was not bad. Has restrooms and changing area. No lifeguards but water was calm and great for swimming. Would definitely recommend. Found some nice shells but the best ones came from swimming in the water with goggles.

The beach is beautiful. Large expanse of sandy shoreline to relax on. There is a playground, but it's small and in the sun.

This beach is so pretty at sunset. Very clean and well kept. Super soft sand and a few shells. Wish we could have found more. Just means we will have to come back!

Not the larger fancy shells as expected but depends when you visit. We went early morning and definitely found shells just not unbroken and fancy just basic. Nice and clean. Parking is per hour and lot could fill up quickly in busy season.

It's a long walk, and the rest area is a long hike back, but this was our favorite beach. Lovely, wide beaches. Many shells to find.

I lived in Hawaii for 4 years and this beach is all of what Hawaii has to offer. Absolutely beautiful crystal clear waters white sand beach’s. What more could one say. We loved it. A little bit of a walk from car to beach, and parking is a little pricey at $5 per hour.

This place would of been amazing but check before you go. Right now it’s covered in dead fish and everyone was coughing due to red tide.

We walked many beaches in Sanibel and Captive. This was our favorite. $5 / hr to park but they have bathrooms, showers, changing areas. Houses along the way are spectacular. Not as many shells as other beaches but plenty because real shell collectors go where there are more.
Many people spend the day, we spent 2 hours.

Lovely beach right outside of the refuge trail. We saw dolphins a few times passing through the water in the distance. There were many shells to pick through. The water is a beautiful green. Plenty of beach area so your not close to others. We wish we would have worn water shoes because some of the shells were sharp.

Bowmans Beach was wonderful. The sand was soft and white, there were plenty of shells. There was a nice breeze blowing off the Gulf and it wasn’t too crowded.
The parking was easy and a short walk to the beach. There are bathrooms and (outdoor) showers. There are many reviews that claim the parking police are “out to get you”. It was quite simple to text the number, pay the fee ($5/hour) and enjoy the beach.
We will be back!!

Some beaches were covered with seaweed, but we found some that we're perfect. Shelling at Blind Pass was great. Very peaceful week walking the beaches.

We were there on a Monday afternoon after visiting the J.N.Ding Darling National Wildlife refuge. Nice temperature, low humidity. It is a shelling beach and it is $5 an hour to park here. So be prepared to estimate how many hours you need on the beach! It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot. Have some bags with you if you are interested in collecting shells. Apparently the types and volume of shells you can expect depends upon the tides and some times of the year when lots and lots of shells are washed ashore. We collected some shells but nothing spectacular on the day we were there. Nevertheless nice beach and nice visit. Be careful about traffic on the way back. There is only one road in and out of Sanibel island and Captiva island combined. It gets backed up for miles. So don't plan on catching a flight on time if you are heading out of Sanibel Island! Go over to Fort Myers and do something else before the flight.

Pretty spot. Lots of people but not overly crowded. Watched a large pod of dolphins just off shore for a long time. Good shelling.

This beach has great facilities -- bathrooms, changing areas, showers and more. There's also a little playground tucked in along the path to the beach in case the little ones need a break from the sand and surf.
The beach itself is gorgeous. The water is fairly shallow for a long way, so there's plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy the water.
Parking is paid by the hour, but it's affordable and there's plenty of spaces.

Sanibel beaches are all lovely and fun to walk, boat, and explore wildlife, but Bowman’s Beach is truly the most lovely. There are also facilities there, which is a plus. This is a must see if you visit Sanibel.

We tried here as a dark sky park because it is on the beach and there aren't a lot of buildings with lights on nearby. We saw a lot of stars at night.

Awesome place to watch the sunsets. Bring a bottle of wine, a blanket and a TON of bug spray (the no seeums are ruthless!) and enjoy. Long walk from the parking area (which u have to pay for) . Bathrooms on the premises.

We were visiting the Cape Coral area following a cruise out of FLL. One afternoon we decided to go to Sanibel Island. We were excited about going to Bowman’s Beach but a bit worried about being able to pay for parking after some of the reviews we had read. We are international visitors and we were able to use the app and pay for parking. Now for the disappointing part. We followed the path into the beach and only once we arrived at the beach there was a Red Tide warning. Shame on the Authorities at Lee County for only posting the warning after you have paid for parking. What a deceitful money grab. Who wants to go to a beach with health warnings of respiratory problems, and dead fish washing up on the shore. The Lee County should close the beaches and the warnings should be posted before you Pat for parking.

I intended to spend the morning at Bowmans, a beach I have enjoyed in thr past. I paid 20$ to park and as soon as I hit the beach I began to cough. I tried to stick with it but soon my eyes were irritated, and my nose running. After walking a bit I was in moderate distress. There were some dead fish not many. I could not enjoy the beach at all so I had to leave after 1/2 hour or less. I noticed others with the same irritation. No warnings had been posted. All reporting websites stated the beach was clear.

Every beach on Sanibel has $5/hr parking, but this one has plenty of room and amenties. Great bathrooms, play ground, walk over tidal area where you can kayak (bring your own), and play in the Gulf. FAVORITE beach!
We kayaked for 2 hours - saw all kinds of birds including two bald eagles. Easy put-in right next to parking lot. No charge for kayaking - just have your own boats.

Very nicely located on Sanibel Island. We also found very nice shells and snails. Parking costs $5 per hour.

We saw groups of dolphins and manatees! That's always a nice surprise. This beach is all shells, small ones. But nice open areas, lots of space. The water wasnt as clear as Lighthouse beach, and not much sand, just crushed shells. The parking area is about a quarter mile from the beach, so if you bring a lot of stuff, bring a cart. 5/hr. to park. They do have a playground for little ones, but it isnt covered, so it's too hot to play on. Bathrooms available.

What a n8ice beach. It has plenty of parking and it is $5 an hour to park via text or app to pay. If you have problems with that you can call a phone number and someone will come from the parking division of the Sanibel PD. Very nice people. There is a short walk to the beach but along the way you cross over a small creek via boardwalk. The beach is beautiful and plenty of shells. There are changing rooms, bathrooms, water fountain and an outdoor shower. Beach is dog friendly with dog having to be on a leash.

Great beach that is typically not very crowded. Great shelling at low tide. Lots of different birds to see. No red tide this year so very enjoyable.

I was disappointed in this park. The parking is 5.00 an hour and a large fine if you are not back on time. Pretty good hike to the beach if you have very much to carry. I was expecting to see many more shells on the beach. There were heavy rip currents the whole time and the water was too rough to get in.

We weren't as successful with our shelling here but this is a really long beach and much less traffic than the other beaches on the island. You can walk clear to Blind Pass if you want, you just have to find the path through the mangroves, which is best done at a lower tide. Restrooms, lots of parking, interpretive signs and place to rinse off the sand.

My husband and I finally visited Sanibel post Ian. The island is a mess but slowly recovering. Less than half of the businesses are operating and downed trees line the roads. We decided to check out Bowman's Beach then get lunch and do some shopping at the businesses that were open. At Bowman's Beach many areas were marked off with protective orange temporary fencing and yellow police tape as well as signs say "wear shoes - debris may be in the water". We checked out an area of the beach that wasn't fenced off, took a quick dip and headed back to our car.
At our car there was a ranger issuing us a parking ticket. The beach was virtually empty and the parking lot was at best 10% full. She laughingly told us "it's too late and this is going to cost you $150! It's all electronic, there's nothing I can do about it." To which my husband replied "why do you need rub it if you can't do anything about it?" After our warm welcome back to Sanibel greeting we got the $150 dollar ticket and got out of there as quickly as we could and do not plan on returning any time soon.

We enjoyed our walk on this beach. If you walk far enough you can have the beach to yourself. Still like Lighthouse Beach better though.

Bowman’s beach is one of our favorites on the island great for shelling and a great place to spend time hanging in the water, bird watching, and if you are lucky dolphin watching. Parking can be a pain and basically you pay by the hour. For the most part very family friendly

If you like to go to the beach with a lot of other folks, this one is for you. Not so much for me! It's quite a trek to the beach and the shelling wasn't that great, as it was picked over quite early.

Sanibel Island is a dreamlike destination with quiet beaches, lots of nature and a relaxed atmosphere. The island is ideal for cycling, shell collecting and relaxing beach days. Everything looks well-kept and pleasantly calm – perfect for escaping everyday life. A really worthwhile stop on Florida's Gulf Coast!

Facilities were incredible, the beach was nice and not too crowded. The Bugs on the walk out at dusk though. Oh my goodness. We were swarmed. We practically ran to our car and still were eaten alive, then a whole bunch got in our car. This almost kept us from visiting Lighthouse Beach and missing out on low tide shelling there. There weren't nearly as many mosquitoes there.

Nice beach. However, don’t go over your parking time limit they will fine you a hefty 50$ .was over an hour so all day pass might be more beneficial

This is a beautiful beach with plenty of space for everyone to gather. Restrooms, picnic tables and places to wash sand off of feet. A bit remote so bring your own food and beverage.

If you haven’t been to Sanibel it’s worth the insanely slow wait on the only Main Street in town. But, if you go early ( make SURE you get a parking pass! ) it’s a fascinating place to go. Currently there is some erosion repair on Blind Pass (which some of the beach fronts on) but that’s not likely where you’d have a family swim anyway, but that is a great place for avid shellers. There’s a huge beach to sit, sun and shell on (Sanibel is mega famous for that) and enjoy. Get there early for great parking, and park yourself too and enjoy some of beautiful Sanibel. You’ll come back again and again. And maybe you’ll find one of those most elusive of shells...a Junonia.

We were a bit disappointed that in August of 2022, there were very little shells on the beach, due to the season. But, right after, Ian hit!
I've been to Bowman beach before, when the shells were plentiful. Its a great beach!!

It was so wonderful to be back on a gorgeous, huge, white sand beach after a big hurricane of destruction a couple of years ago! Lots of shells, and plenty of space for folks to spread out and enjoy the beauty of Florida Gulf Coast nature! However, the qr parking mechanism really set me back. Though several others had no difficulty with the system, my debit card number somehow got stolen while I was waiting for it to be registered, and I received two calls from fraud alert! It took literally one hour, two phone calls to the Sanibel police (who have NO other option for paying!!) several calls to my bank, and kind assistance from two other beach-goers to FINALLY get parked and join my friends on the beach!! This system is terrible when it goes awry!!!!! Beware - there is no plan B to pay for parking!!!
Recovering from the Red Tide
We were happy to see marine life recovering from last year's deadly red tide; Bowman's natural beauty is still there and the water is pure once again, with schools of minnows and other marine life starting to return.
