Nice place to spend a few hours with the kids. Many different activities, and staff is friendly. Areas for water play, art, hands on activities.

We took our grandson to the Building for Kids and he had so much fun! Which meant we had fun too. He played and played. We will be back!!!

Sunday it opens from 1-4 p.m. and their rates were still expensive at $7.25 per person! yikes.
The museum was fun for the kids though.

My children loved going here. Lots of things for little ones to do. The little shop area was cute, the craft area was nice & well staffed. Even though there was a bunch of schools here for field trips, it wasn't too packed. The Japanese anime room was a highlight for us. You could create your own movie- so fun!!

My kids had a blast and can't wait to go again. There is so much to do, experience, and learn. Such a nice visit for our afternoon.
We will go again.

This is a huge children’s museum with a lot of great features. Our toddlers had a great time. However it is understaffed. There were only a couple instances where I saw staff putting stuff back or monitoring things at all. My sister and I took it upon ourselves to tidy up areas our girls were in. I’m sure it is a lack of funding problem. Signs should be posted to encourage all adults present to keep things tidy. It takes an army of adults to keep up with a few busy kids! I would recommend this for children 10 and under for sure!

My wife and I took my daughter here for her 2-yr birthday (and brought along our 1-yr old son), and they both loved the place. Most of the exhibits had a theme, and the kids couldn't really settle on one, so they ran from point to point trying to explore everything. It seemed that a lot of the setups were geared more towards older (5+) kids, but ours still seemed to enjoy everything.

The Building for Kids is such a great Appleton attraction. Adults can enjoy taking their children, etc. here. It is safe, well-cleaned and a relatively cheap attraction. A must try - the kids (ok and adults) have so much fun!

Great place to entertain the entire family! We've gone multiple times. Always so many areas to explore.

Located in downtown Appleton. Many activities at many levels for kids. A great place for kids to pretend, learn, and burn off steam.

The kids love going here. There are enough interactive exhibits to keep them busy for a while.

Parking is a challenge and it’s a little pricey - but the kids love it.
Lots of different activities and good for at least a couple hours.

This is an awesome place to take younger children to learn and burn off some of that energy on a rainy day.

This place is a lot of fun for small children. It feels like they need to do a lot of small updates to improve the experience. New firefighter coats and hats, fresh toys are needed in many of the exhibits, repair ball tubes that don't work, more clips in the art area for artwork, places to dry pictures and pick up later, etc.

Plenty of fun activities for the kids to do. The admission price is the same for anyone age 1-64, so don't expect a discounted rate for the littles.

Great place for kids under 10 or 12. Hands on fun, science projects and crafts.

I love bringing kids to this place (however, if you have more than two children this gets a little pricey).
The kids have so much fun to check out groceries, play dress-up, "fly" an airplane, climb in and out of a nose and so much more. Great for boys and girls and it keeps them entertained for a few hours. Especially in the winter and it is cold outside, they can run around in this building.
Make sure to bring your camera to capture some great memories!

We came with our 2 and 3 year old and they had a fantastic time. There were all kinds of things to do and they loved it. The water area was brilliant, the best I've seen from many children's museums.

There is a lot to do for the kids. Will be going back if we travel to that area again. Recommended for anyone with kids. Decently priced.

We had been here YEARS ago but were recently back in town so we stopped in for a couple visits during our week long stay in the area. Our kids ages 4-14 all managed to find something to do for a couple hours. The treehouse was a hit - nice to have some active play inside on a hot day.
We were able to use our membership to the museum we have where we live to get in for free - great deal!

Big kids, little kids, young kids, old kids, young at heart kids - let;s not kid around, its a fun place for kids of all ages.

Visited in August 2014 with our 6 & 8 year olds. Had low expectations because the website recommends the place for kids 7 & under. Turns out we were pleasantly surprised, both kids had a great time---lots of hands on things to do that were creative and 'not too babyish'--to quote my 8 year old. The Building For Kids happens to be a ASTC museum, so if you have membership with any science museum with reciprocity admission is free, as it was for us, nice bonus! Plan about 2 hours, and bring your own snack, there is an area to eat, but only a vending machine or two.

My kids love this place and so do I. They get to run, jump, play and learn without the mess and chaos in my house. They especially love to paint and play in the water room. We usually go on a weekday afternoon to avoid big crowds. We bring a lunch and eat in the indoor picnic area (no food or drinks are available to purchase inside).

We had annual memberships for a couple years but our girls have outgrown most of the exhibits (8 and 6). The annual price is a good deal if you live in the area. Also, they have a reciprical program that makes it a great deal.

Took our young child there this past summer, she absolutely loved it. Great activities from a store, to baby nursery, farm, water activities, ball area, and much more. Children of any age would enjoy the place. Reasonably priced, nice staff. Mostly metered parking the area, kept having to go out and put more money in the meter so we could stay longer. Isnt highly advertised but a real hidden gem. Can't think of one bad thing to say about the place. Been to children's museums in much larger cities, this by far is the best we have ever been to.

Wonderful little gem in the heart of downtown Appleton. A lot of activities for young kids and a great place to interact with your child/grandchild.

Our kids love this children's museum (ages 5-11). There are several different areas for children to play. Our kids are never bored here.

During my last business trip to Appleton, I stopped in to buy some presents for my two little girls at the Building for Kids. I found some good deals on some educational toys that made my girls happy when I got home to Canada! I was really blown away by the interior playground that was set up! It made me wish for one of two things: 1- to be a kid again and start climbing through the place. 2- That my wife and kids could have been with me to try the place out! I think this is a great idea for children to enjoy playing in, especially in a place like Wisconsin, with cold, snowy winters! Year round playground fun! I wish we had a "Building for Kids" here in Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada!
This is a great place, and I highly recommend it for Moms and Dads to bring their kids, or to pick up some nice toys to take home to the ones who wait for our return.

We have been to Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Eau Claire, Green Bay, and La Crosse children's museums and this is probably in the top 2-3. I think Minneapolis would be my favorite of the bunch. This place has a small city, a dress up area, a water room, airplane and fire engine cutaways, a rubber mulch room for excavation toy play, a large magnet crane, an art project area, a two story tree house and climbing area, and a toddler play area.

This place was awesome! We took our 1.5 year old son here. It was perfect. I thought they wouldn't have anything to fit his age. He took an interest in almost all of it. Although he is too young to really understand any of it, it was a lot of fun for him to explore the different areas and run around. It's a place where you're little ones could get out of the stroller and go, go, go. I think it would be appropriate up to somewhere around the age of 10.
If you have a large family and like to go to other museums, it is worth getting the preferred membership for $135. You can use it at many places across the U.S. Milwaukee and Chicago, for those who are somewhat local.

This is a great place to take the kids. It has enough different areas to move around to so that they do not loose interest. It is costly to take a family. You have to plan to spend time here to make it worthwhile. We have even done a birthday party here which was great. The staff is great and very friendly and helpful.

This is a great place for kids & one of the largest children’s museums that we've been to (two floors of fun). They have a nice area for toddlers, life size fire truck & so much more.

It is a great places but only a few things change often. For the price for all of us to attend I wish there were more different exhibits.

Formerly called the "Children's Museum", it has hands on permanent exhibits that children love - there is a construction crane, a fire truck, a convenience store, all full sized, and fun for anyone. Then there are the special exhibits, that are there for a time and are featured. Some favorite characters, like Clifford stop in from time to time. There is little there that says "don't touch". The only problem is paying for parking no matter when you go. Most street parking is 2 hour, but there are parking garages nearby-irritating that they are all metered,

We utilize an annual membership to the kids museum and use it often. Updates from time to time are nice, but the classic attractions at this kids museum are wonderful. My kids particularly like the ball area with the chutes, however it seems to be relatively neglected and often has some portion of the attraction that's not working. Kids also love the water room and firetruck. We spend a great deal of time here during the colder months. Love the art area, the guinea pig, fish, birds, and all the diverse play areas.
The main drawback is fear of getting sick in the winter months. The first year we got our membership, we were there 2-4 times per week, but we found our household struck with sickness at least a half dozen times that winter. We'd wait until all of us had gone through the sickness before going back out to places like this, but would almost predictably find the domino affect of our family getting sick within a day of our last visit to the kids museum. They're cleanly there, it's just disappointing when other parents bring their sick or recently sick and still contagious children to a place that is bound to have an excessive amount of germ sharing. Not the museum's fault, but an unfortunate aspect of going there during flu season in Wisconsin. If nothing else, I'm hoping this review helps remind other parents to keep kids home if they're sick or still contagious.

We brought our one year old here! He loved the toddler area and the water play area the best! It's definitely a place I will take him as he gets older too because there is so many fun things to do!

This is a favorite place to take my daughter. It's big enough to allow plenty of space for each activity yet not so huge that you worry about losing your child. We really enjoy the art & drama area & spend a lot of time painting & playing make-believe. Also the mini stores & doll daycare on the first floor are lots of fun. Great rainy day activity!

Took my 2 year old grandson on a rainy morning and he had a blast! There is so much to do he hardly knew where to start. We just trailed along behind him as he wandered from one area to the next, stopping to drive the fire engine or work the "digger". After 2 hours, it was lunch time but he didn't want to leave. He and his parents live across the country and don't visit often, but we will definitely return to The Building when they visit again. As he gets older, I expect he'll enjoy things differently, especially as his tastes change. This place has something for every child.

The facility is very friendly with a very helpful staff. I have been to more lavish children's museums but none where the kids have had more fun. The art area is especially nice.

We spent most up the day exploring with a 6 month old and 2 year old. There was many things for both to do.

The water area was really fun. Ball area was very cool too. There was a ton to do there. We spent 2 hours and could have stayed much longer!

We have been taking our son here on our yearly trips back to WI. This place is perfect for young kids or toddlers. Ideal age is 2 to 10. Our son is older now but he still wanted to go because he loves the water playing room and the art room. They have a lot of activities. They even added a new section since last year.

We love to come here when we stay in nearby Green Bay.Appleton is very safe and you can find cheap parking near this delightful place that kids love.

This is an outstanding entertainment center not to be missed. Took a one and a half year old and a four year old here last December and they both had a ball. Of course older kids will love it too. It was my second visit. They have a water room with fountains for the kids to play in, a real fire engine cab, arts and crafts, a mock heart that is a slide, and many other areas too numerous to mention. They also host kids parties there. It is important to set aside at least a couple of hours so that you will get through the majority of the play areas. Bring your camera so you can record their joy. It is hard to get the kids to leave. It is not cheap, but it is worth it. Afterwards there are several nearby restaurants on College Avenue for a nice lunch if the kids don't have to go down for naps.

I love TBFK, However we don't get there too often because admission hovers around 7-8 dollars. Which is fine to pay for my daughter to enjoy herself in a safe, fun and educational environment, but that isn't per child it's per PERSON. So if her dad and I want to bring her together we are dropping $24 just to get in.

This place is great to take kids. It's all hands on and they love going from place to place and trying their hand at everything. Very entertaining and educational at the same time.

An FYI, if you visit M-F and come at 3pm you can save $2 on admission. That is what we decided to do. Glad we did because 2 hours was plenty of time to explore the museum. There isn't a whole lot on the first floor. The little Kwik Trip shop was a little disappointing because no one was supervising and all the grocery items were missing. At other children's museums we have been to, someone is always making sure these things get put away so all kids can have fun. The second floor was much better. My kids loved the ball area, fire engine, large building blocks and the Davinci area. The crane was broken and that was disappointing. If you've been to Betty Brinn in Milwaukee this is not quite as nice.

Two stories of fun exhibits for kids of all ages! Well worth the price of admission. They will stamp your hands for re-entry later the same day, and they allow adults to bring in coffee in covered containers. My daughter loved the water room, but the raincoat provided did very little and she still left absolutely soaked, drawing our visit short - if you go, save that room for last!

We ended up going on dental day which was an added bonus bc we got a bunch of new toothbrushes.. BUT any normal day is just as fun. whether your child is 6 months or 6 years and above everyone will find something cool to do. theres always something to build, paint, climb, destroy and learn. I try and take the baby once a month, she loves it :)

I cannot say enough how much I really LOVE this place. It is a fun and unique place to bring my child and I am truly greatful that it is here for us. However that being said, pricing is a serious issue that seriously limits our ability to enjoy this treasure. There is no legit low-income option and all accompanying adults are charged FULL PRICE! For my parents to come with on a VERY slow day just to watch their grandson play around for an hour was rediculously too expensive. Its a shame because I do really like this place and wish It was made more available to those of all income levels.

My mother in law and I took my four kids ages 1, 3, 5 and 6 for an afternoon. My kids had tons of fun! There are so many great activities for them! We started in the art center and there was painting, sand, play doh, a play kitchen, books and many other things to do! They had a few tables with special crafts but my kids enjoyed the painting and legos more. There is this great ball room there that all my kids spent a lot of time in. The water room was fun except one of the tables was broke so it was tough for my 1 yr old who doesn't stand well yet to play. All the activities were so great that I can't even explain them all! They have a great little area for kids 2 and under to play. It has a few slides and some toys. We spent about 3 hours there and if we hadn't gotten there so close to closing time we may have stayed longer! The only bad things about it is the parking is in a garage across the street and I think it is very overpriced! I had to pay 7.25 for my 1 year old who really didn't do much of anything! It cost us 43.50.

Went on the fire truck, airplane, and the crane. It's a great place for younger children. The staff was friendly and helpful.

While visiting grandson, we went to the Building for Kids Children's Museum. Hands on exhibits, mostly donated from local manufacturers, were great. We could hardly get the boy to move from one exhibit to the next. We had to "bribe" him to get him to leave.
The sponsors, Gulfstream, Pierce Fire Engines, Boldt Construction, Thrivent Financial and others, deserve praise in providing great interactive exhibits that shows the strong community spirit of Appleton and surrounding communities.
This is a must stop for younger kids.

We visited with our nephew who was 2 years old. He loved it - loved the water section the most! As a child it was probably the greatest thing but as adults it looked a little run down - but still a great place for the kids.

This museum is huge! We took our children, ages 18 mo. and 3 yrs. in June 2008. We spent almost 3 hours and still did see all of the exhibits. They have a huge construction crane for picking up ball bearings with a magnet, an airplane, a fire engine, a whole room of water tables, a toddler playground, a mock town, and treehouse. There is probably much more that I cannot remember. Also, if you have a memebership to your local children's museum or science museum, you might be in-network and get free admission.

What a great place for children. We take our grandchildren there often and they always have a great time. The various displays appeal to everyone. Beware that it can get quite busy especially when school groups are present. We offset that by getting there early.

A friend was visiting from CA (SFO area) and we took our four-year-olds to visit. It is simply an amazing place, honoring creativity, wonder, and fun. My friend sent a donation after getting home, as she had never experienced a better children's museum. For a small community, we are incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity for our children - it's better than museums we have visited in several urban areas. Locals and visitors with kids - don't miss it!

Wonderful water play area, lots of good traveling exhibits and nice location in downtown Appleton, across from the new Houdini square.

The Building for kids looks more interesting from the outside than it is. It is essentially an indoor playground for young children. There is a model Kwik Trip, hospital nursery, and places to climb. It seems mostly suited for kids from preschool age to 2nd grade. My major issue is that there are very few places for adults to sit. Pretty average and not particularly exciting as far as I'm concerned. It is fairly pricey too.

We have taken our grand children, ages 3.5 and 1.5 years old, several times. Each time they are fully engaged for over 2 hours and still are not able to do everything. We like that because the next time they get to do different things. The story time program is excellent as well. Totally and fully recommend this place. Well worth the cost.

Been here several times for birthday parties and special events, but as a paying customer its a little pricey. I do understand its a non profit place, but needs to be a tad bit affordable. I like there is a lot of different stations around the building for kids. Love seeing kids smile.

This museum has 2 floors of hours of non-stop fun for kids. I would recommend spending am afternoon here.

It's a great place to let the kids be free to explore. The tree house is always a hit as are the dropping balls. There is an art room where kids can do many different crafts. Kids love playing in the gas station store. There is a shop that has many educational toys to purchase. Well worth the cost of admission.

Large play area - so many things to see. Really liked the large interactive art area,2 story climbing tree house, beating heart slide. Some areas were not working correctly any longer. Future plans apparently for a cafe - that would have been nice so we would not have needed to leave for an hour to find lunch.
Overall - had a great time and even after 4 hours, the kids did not want to leave.

This place needs a little more attention on cleanliness. The attractions are there for so long and kids get board. Water area seems dirty. Learn some skills from the Green Bay museum....that place is fantastic.

Nice place for kids ages 3-10 or so. Art and craft areas, Pierce fire truck display, Gulfstream airplane display, lots of other things for kids to do for several hours.

This is a well planned kids museum aimed at kids under 7. They had interactive exhibits for parents too. The nearby parking garage is free on Sundays.

Lots to do for all kids of all ages. I have 4 kids and everyone from my crawling baby to my pre-teen kids love exploring at the BFK.

We are here close to once a week. My 2 year old still goes crazy when I tell her we are going. We spend most of our time in the Kwik trip area and the DaVinci art studio. The studio has been changed around recently and is so interactive. The easels are so great for my budding little artist!
Parking is the only challenge, especially if it's raining. Nothing is truly convenient. We choose to park in the parking ramp on Appleton street. Then we never have to worry about our meter. Otherwise there is a metered ramp close to the museum that is nice if it's raining.

The building for kids is a two-story children's museum with lots of interactive exhibits for toddlers-elementary school-aged children. There is a separate "baby garden" area for very young children to play in while the older siblings are busy. An art studio is a great feature for when the kids need a little down time (the glitter mess stays there!) There is a great water play room for the kids to get wet, with raincoats provided. A ball room with tubes always provides fun for the kids, and other activities are a dress-up room, a doll hospital, a big crane kids steer to pick up balls, a dump truck room, a huge fire truck complete with dress-up costumes, and a grocery store/pet shop area. Plan to spend several hours there.

This museum is fully hands-on and fun for little kids. Water room, art projects, special exhibits, walk in jet planes, bakeries, restaurants, etc. Cute gift shop. Parking is on the street and not always easy.

Lots of activities for kids of all ages. Great for learning, exploring, and fun. They have a fantastic Halloween program and events throughout the year. Admission is a little pricey so my family of 5 doesn't make it a daily stop in the summer, but we go on occasion. Probably 4x a year.

Great place to bring the little kids during the cold winter months, or any rainy day! Lots of hands on activities, small gift shop, and normally fairly clean! Can be busy at times, but lots of fun!

Our classes at school have taken many trips to this museum. I like it there when the theme seems to be more geared toward my family. Usually it has a diff theme every other month or so. There is a water room which I don't know why is there...kid usually don't stay in there too long...you are asked to wear the provided raincoats to stay dry when playing in the several water table ares. There is a fire engine area to pretend you are riding or driving a fire engine. (real to life) and several other funa reas...the science area is always diff and it totally depends on the child what their preferences are-you can usually find something in this area the kids will like at some point. I would say to allow a couple hours for the family to have fun and be able to enjoy all it has to offer. Another area is a real to life airplane with seats and a cockpit...whic is neat for young airplane enthusists.

The Building for Kids offers a large variety of activities for families of young children. Plan on staying a few hours if your kids have the stamina...there are plenty of things to do and a lot of space so it doesn't feel cramped like other children's museums. We prefer to go after lunch since it's typically less crowded. Also, visit the da Vinci studio first so your art creations have plenty of time to dry while you're there.

I have taken my kid here a few times. It is a great was to learn and have fun at the same time. If you have multiple kids I recommend have multiple adults so the kids can split up and explore.

We love the Building for Kids - so much that we bought a membership. A great way to spend time with our grandkids. The exhibits are very well maintained and age appropriate. So many different things for them to do, you can easily spend hours there!

Some interesting things for kids to do. They change some of the things but the basics have stayed the same for years and years. I found that the staffing level was less this time than last so that some of the hands on things that require a staff person could not be done. Some of the exhibits such as the ball and motor one continued to get stuck and the water table was not functional the day we were there.

This place is great if you buy the year membership, otherwise I feel it's way over priced. They charge the kids AND the parents for entry which is ridiculous. This said, the place does offer a lot of fun activities and different cool rooms with fun things to do. They have a water room, a ball room, an art room, trains, tree houses. If you live in Appleton and have young ones a year membership to this place is a must. It's best for kids 2-6 yrs of age.

I went to the Fox Cities Building for Kids/Children’s Museum with my daughter-in-law and her three-year-old, two-year-old and for three plus hours there was never a dull moment. From the art easels to the markers, paper, cards and stickers, kids were creative. In the Water Works the kids explored, stopped and changed to flow of water in several stations. With the fire truck, police car, crane, grocery store, hospital and more, their imaginations were let loose. And to top it off, the place is safe and very secure! We bought an annual pass because we will be back often.

Great place to bring family and kids i took my 2 girls and they had a great time playing with everything

Took our two grandsons ages 4 and 5. They could spend all day there and never get bored. They especially love the real airplane that they can pilot. The grocery store and the play area with water are another great hit.

My kids love this place. There is a nice area for children under 3 and the rest of the building has tons of activities. There is so,e work that needs to be done to fix some broken parts of the exhibits but overall, it's still tons of fun for the kids. If you plan on visiting more than once during the year, a membership is worth it.

Our two granddaughters were visiting from out of state and this was a great place to take them. They are 10 and 8 years old and they had so much fun participating in the various activities ( making ice cream, arts and crafts, etc.).
There is enough there to see and do that we were there for over 3 hours.

Great hands on kids museum (fire truck, digger, water section, jet, tree house, crafts, ball area. We buy an annual pass which allows admission to other kid's museums throughout the state. Lets kids explore, learn, and have great physical activity. Recommend parking in one of the connected parking ramps instead of fighting the metered street parking.

My kids had such a great time at this location. They loved being able to paint as well as the water exhibit. There is a giant tree house to climb around. Another favorite was the room that had the balls in it through the air tubes, however, it seemed to not be working that well. My only complaint is the price, especially for adults to pay.

We were visiting family in Wisconsin from our home in Chicago and was looking for something fun to do with our 2.5 year old on a cold January morning. I came across The Building for Kids via a google search. The place is simply amazing! 2 levels of fun in a constructive learning environment. Every room was filled with something fun and engaging. The building was immaculate, full of natural light, painted with bright colors. Every staff member created us with a smile as well. I was so impressed! Needless to say, our toddler had the best time. Also a plus, as members of The Museum of Science & Industry, we got in free! I highly recommend The Building for Kids when you visit Appleton/Oshkosh area. We will definitely be back!

We took our 7 year old son to the Building for Kids and had a great time! We've been to several children's museums in the midwest and this was one of the best. My son really liked the water and air rooms. They also had a mock up of an airplanewhich he enjoyed. There were exhibits for toddlers, too. The few teenage kids we saw there looked bored, so I advise sticking to the 10 and under crowd.

Older children will like science area and crafts. Has a section for the "0" agers that will be away from older kids but you can still see your older children from that area.

My husband is from Appleton, WI and we were on a vacation to visit family in June of 2018. The weather became stormy and in looking for something to do we discovered the Building for Kids! We have been talking about how amazing this place was since we left, and we have made plans to visit in June of this year too! My son was 18 months last year and still enjoyed the "toddler/baby" area but was also super into everything else, the firetruck area, the water room, the pretend car, etc. This year he will be 2.5 years old when we go and I know he'll be climbing the rope course through the center of the building that is a couple floors tall. Word to the wise - plan to stay the whole day and pack a lunch because we were not prepared for the toddler meltdown when we had to leave and he wasn't ready yet!

We visited in November 2014 and our kids had a blast! Our kids were almost 4 years old and 10 months old at the time and they didn't want to leave... even after being there for 3+ hours. We will definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone looking to keep their kids entertained!

Wonderful place to take the kids especially when the weather outside is bad. Lots of hands on activities that let them use their imaginations.

My daughter loved this museum. We live out of state and nearly a year later she still talks about it. Loves of interactive fun!

All hands on, our son didn't want to leave. He is 3 years old. We highly recommend this place also it was on our network of museums so got in for free with local museum membership.

We were looking for some place to take a very lively 3 year old on a cool damp day. This was perfect. So much for him to do and play with. We spent the whole afternoon and had to carry him out at the end of the day. The staff were very friendly and constantly tidying up any stray toys on the floor with out a grumble. Although we had a 3 year old with us there was plenty for older and younger children to do. Great day, would highly recommend

Fun for all ages. There are activities and areas for kids of all ages. Go early so you don't run out of time!

Great place to take the kids; we have been members for 2 years and even had a birthday party there. Best for the 8 years and under crowd - it is big enough for a few hour trip and has some interesting interactive exhibits

Took my Pre K class with parents here for a morning of fun. The kids had a blast, the parents got to play like kids and the class we had about the 5 senses was wonderful hands on learning. I will be taking my future Pre K classes back!

We were looking for a place to have some fun and Building for Kids was it! Our favorites were operating a crane, water gallery, giant foam building blocks and the balls moving through clear tubes area. Spent about 2 hours here. Would recommend to anyone with young children looking to spend an enjoyable day together.

Plenty to do, play with, imagine, and build for my kids, aged 8 and 10 (one boy one girl). Staff was attentive and friendly. Not a gigantic space, but keeps kids interested for a couple of hours. Beyond 12 years old would be pushing it...

Took my 4-year old son and niece here and they absolutely loved it! There is plenty to do so plan for at least 3 hours. We are from Milwaukee and it was great to use our Discovery World museum pass to get free admission as a reciprocal site! For anyone who is familiar with Betty Brinn children's museum in Milwaukee, we felt this place was better! The art center part is great for kids who love to paint. There is a soft play area for children under 3, in which my 10-month old son had fun exploring. My 15-year old nephew had fun with the dominos. We were there on a colder day and had a 2 hour car drive ahead of us, so did not let the kids explore the water area, but it looked like a lot of fun. Overall this was a great museum and we will be back!

This place is great. It has so many hands-on activities for the kids. They have great exibits, art projects, and more. Plus there is one exhibit area that changes periodically, so it stays fun for those who visit often. Only downfall, it's more geared toward younger kids (elementary age or younger).

We took our 6 year old daughter here while on vacation and it was really great! There are plenty of fun and educational activities to do. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And at only $7.50 to get in its a great value.

This facility has it all! My 2year and 10yr old both love it. The baby hospital and gas station were favorites!!!

Awesome facility!!! Especially liked the airplane stuff. If you havent been or brought your kids here you are missing out.

Lots of fun exhibits. My son loved the giant foam building blocks and the airtubes that shoot plastic balls through them. So much to do we didn't get to the arts and crafts...

We always have an awesome time with my four kids here. We only wish there was something to explain the art area. We sometimes come late and our kids would go into that area without knowing it's closing soon.

This is a fun facility for parents with young children to visit - especially on raining or snowing days. There is a lot of different activities for the kids to do such as the "water works" area - rain coats are available! We enjoyed the fire truck, airplane and the area with Legos.

It was an unplanned visit. I took our 4 y/o grand daughter when my daughter and daughter-in-law shopped. It was a very nice experience for both my grand daughter and me! Lots of activities and learning experiences. She loved it and so did I. It was easy to fine on one of the main city avenues.

Our favorite storybook character visited the museum. They had coloring activities after the book reading. He loved every minute of it. He also loved playing in the 3 year old and under area. It's gated off so you don't have to worry about your little one running away from you. Great place for my almost 2 year old.

This offers all kinds of interactive experiences for the kids, including a hugs water table area complete with rain coats. A wonderful place for families to go.

Lots of stuff to do. We had a 12,11 and 6 yr old and all 3 were busy the whole time. My hubs and had fun with the older 2 figuring things and explaining things out.

This is such a great place!
I often take my students ( Pre-K) to visit during the summer and they all usually love it.

I think the Building For Kids needs to visit other cities and get someinspiration from other kids' museums. We've taken our kids to lots of other museums and would rather pay more for a more submersive experience that varies visit to visit.

I have a 2.5 year old and he loves the Children's museum. He would go every day if I let him! Highly recommend it.

The art area is fantastic. Kids can create for hours. A space where kids have options and can spend hours. We will go again. Free if part of ASTC.

My daughter loves going here as do I. It's something to do for little kids to do something different. There are many of different things they can do. Painting, water activity, tree house, doll hospital etc. I would like to see it updated a little more. I know they do things occasionally.

Bought a membership for my 2 year old grandson for Christmas. We took him there once and it was amazing. He goes with his parents so he knew where everything was. We couldn't get him to leave. Will definitely buy him another yearly membership this year.

Very Clean. Always Fun for my little one (especially on a rainy or snowy day). Lots of fun rooms and areas to play for a variety of ages. The staff is very helpful and kind. (Just expect to get wet if you enter the water room! Lesson Learned) Have great activities throughout the year. We ask for a membership from grandparents for Christmas (great to get instead of more toys!)

Whenever I go here, the is always a new thing to do. They have a rope playground, a model plane that you can go inside and operate, mini golf, arts and crafts studio, and an early childhood playground. There is even a whole room filled with water and a room filled with balls. Your kids could spend a whole day here.

This is an excellent place to bring your children for fun and exercise. Especially in Wisconsin with the long cold winters. This lets families have a place to play and stay warm.

We visited recently after my not having been here since my daughter was a kid! What fun! The water room where the grandgirls could splash and control fountains and sprays while wearing raincoats (provided by the museum) was the favorite location; the model Kwik Trip had grandgirl #1 pushing her cart around and buying a cappacino for Mom, and the LearJet was a great flight of imagination! Admission is very reasonable, location is perfect in downtown Appleton, easy parking access - all in all a Class A place!

This is a great place for kids of all ages, from activities to Science an beyond. Lots of Hands-On, loved the static ball, individual playroom area's (doctor office, home, school),Lots of open areas, one was a mock firetruck to climb on.
It's been a few years since we were there this review makes me want to visit again, activities are changing and new being added. Great place for a Rainy Day.

What a great place to go with young kids! Great exhibits, clean, and well organized. Even something so simple as a place to paint a picture with water colors.

My sons love this place. Busy busy busy that is what they are when they go there. Eerytime it rains my little one uses it as an excuse for me to take him there. I like all of the different exhibits/areas but my faorite is the art area where you get to be creative and paint your own paintings if you would like to.

The Building for Kids in Appleton has something for kids of all ages. From the water feature, to the fire engine, the airplane, the craft area, the human heart that kids can climb in, and much more, it is a wonderful place for the kids to play and learn!

This is the best place in the Valley for kids anywhere from 4-9. My kids absolutely love this place. There is so much to do from climbing through cargo nets to water activities to art areas and learning areas. Definitely a must go if in town with kids.

I don't get to see my grandchildren very often. I took them here and we all had a good time. When we visited, the Building For Kids was between major exhibits; but my grand-daughter had fun dressing up in costumes and my grandson enjoyed the scientific experiments. All in all, a very nice experience.!

Loved every exhibit, expecially the airplane! Also love the shopping/gas station area. Kids enjoyed every minute.

We took our 4-year old son and 1-year old there. We had fun, but were disappointed with the quality of the exhibits. They look great at first glance. My son got so excited before he started playing in each one, but after a few minutes he was bored because so many things were either missing from the exhibit or broken. For example:
Only one or two of the blower fans in the "Move It" exhibit were strong enough to blow the balls through the tunnels. Well, what fun are all the pulleys and levers if you can't send a ball through the system to test them out?
In the "Construction Junction" the crane looks tempting. But, no luck, that didn't work at all.
The "Station 99 Fire Truck" looked cool, but very few of the buttons worked.
The first floor exhibits: Kwik Trip, diner and doll hospital were a hodge podge. All of the food supplies, dolls, equipment, etc. were scattered about and pretty dirty. We were in this area only an hour after the museum opened on a Tuesday, so I was surprised to find it in such disarray. I did not see any staff members walking around straightening up.
The Gulfstream Jet was the biggest hit of the day. Everything in that exhibit actually worked. My son had a blast in the control tower and in the pilot seats.
The Water Play area was nice too.
Bottom line? If you're looking for somewhere your kids can run around and burn some energy, then this is a good place. The tree house is fun, the baby play area is alright, and the free play "Imagination Playground" was good.
They do not sell food, but have a vending machine (and, not surprisingly, that was out of order).

We have been here several times. My daughter seems to enjoy different aspects every time we go. I personally like the art studio for the kids. There are some areas that have broken parts to displays and do not work like they should. These have been like this for years though and I doubt it is a priority, such as working buttons on the fire truck and the plane. It is a wonderful place to let you child run and wear them out! I love the quiet ride home.

My kids absolutely loved the Building for Kids. We spent nearly six hours there, closing the place down, and the kids would have stayed longer if it wasn't closing. There is so much to do here, from all the hands-on interactive exhibits to the art area where the kids painted and made a craft. Note to others - go to the art early in your visit so whatever you make has time to dry! There are a number of restaurants nearby where you can hop out for lunch and return to the museum. Also, we are members of an ASTC (Assoc of Science and Technology Centers) partner museum so we got free admission to Building for Kids.

If it is a crumby day and you are looking for a place for your kids, stop by the children's museum. Great for all ages <12.

A hands on activity based experience, mostly fun but some learning as well. Very nice staff and a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon.
As with most hands-on museums, a few things were not functioning and some of the clothing items (for doll dress up or other places to wear clothing ) need cleaning, but overall a good value.

Took my nephew there, he goes all the time but seems to be excited everytime we take him there!

My 5 year old had a field trip here that I chaperoned and all the little kids had so much fun. My sons favorite thing was the little Kwik Trip store, since our visit he's been making me save empty boxes of food for his own Kwik Trip store! Besides the store, the boys also loved the little area with trucks and rubber pieces, the firetruck was a big hit and so was the crane! We hope to return someday soon.

We took our two year old here and he loved it so much we bought a family pass. We bring him when we need something for him to do and he can just run around and play. He really likes the painting area and the ball and air tube area. Always having a good time at the building for kids.

Wonderful place for children to play and learn. After having come here for years, it is clear that there are some area's that need updates and fixes. Otherwise, it is clean, organized and very family friendly.

We are regular visitors to the Building for Kids, and children's museums in the Midwest and are amazed with what a wonderful facility this is. It's nearly as large as the St. Paul, MN Children's museum and quite a bit bigger than the Milwaukee children's museum. On the first floor you will find a reading area, store, restaurant, hospital, and an an airplane. On the second floor you'll find an infant/toddler area, water-play area, fire truck, crane, balls and tubes, golf ball spirals and simulator, birthday rooms, a huge arts/crafts area, and an exhibit space that is currently housing a traveling Grossology exhibit (pretty cool for 5-10 year olds). The staff is very nice and the facility is generally in pretty good shape.

This place is great for kids to get away and explore while parents get to see their children having fun and learning at the same time.

We were visiting family and decided to spend the morning here...it was soooo much fun! Our 7 and 4 year old had a blast! So many things to do, kept them busy for hours!

My daughter is getting a little too old now but fro younger kids this is great. The exhibits are made for the kids to play in and enjoy while they learn

We have a 1.5 year old and he had a blast playing in a number of the different areas. There's a room with all sorts of water features, you can pretend to drive a fire truck, operate a crane, climb in a rope net obstacle course, try some mini golf, or his favorite; put balls into various tubes that go all over the room to & fro. There's an art area for painting/coloring/crafting, they've got an aquarium, birds, & a lizard, you can grocery shop in a little kwik trip store. We enjoyed watching the little guy run around for a few hours here, but he'll love it even more when he's a year or 2 older so I'll recommend it especially for 3 yr & older kids, probably up until 8-10 before kids get "too cool" to play with the stuff haha.
What a great place for both kids and parents to play together! Their art area is AWESOME! They continuously have fantastic programs on weekends and through out the summer.
