Beautiful place!

By 710ruthb |

Very beautiful place, but also very crowded. Hard to find a parking spot but a great photo opportunity and well worth it

Another beautiful site in Maine

By Christy |

This is another must see on coastal Maine. Lighthouse is spectacular; however, you cannot go up into the lighthouse itself. The grounds are beautiful and there is ample opportunity to take great photos.

Photo opportunity

By Michelle H |

You can’t walk into the lighthouse or the grounds but it’s a cute place to stop and take a picture along your drive. A great photo opportunity.

Beautiful New England Lighthouse

By Wandering boom |

Beautifully restored and maintained lighthouse just north of York, Maine. Parking is very limited, but the view is stunning. Park gift shop is well stocked and reasonably priced. Local artist is sell prints for $10-$20...beautiful. Worth the stop.

Beautiful Lighthouse

By Steve M |

This is a beautiful picture perfect lighthouse that is on a small island. They have a great gift shop to purchase shirts and magnets and etc. Parking is horrible, we drove around multiple times waiting for a spot to open.

A Must See Nubble Lighthouse!

By Daryl Sepega |

OMG! Stunning one of the most beautiful light houses to see a must stop! A great place to take pictures too!

Family visits beautiful place

By Deborah B |

What a beautiful place. But wow it was crowded! Almost everyone took the required COVID precautions. I loved that the gift shop proceeds went to haul pay for the lighthouse.

Very scenic stop

By Ginger B R |

There isn't much to do here except the view, but what a view! It's not hard to park, but you walk a little bit. Then, just enjoy the sight. The lighthouse is so cute, and you get a good look at it and the coast from large, flat rocks. Great photo stop. There is ice cream across the street as well.

Awesome

By Brian K |

A must see if you are in the area. Great adequate parking and amazing view of the lighthouse and grounds and the amazing ocean crashing waves on both sides. Must see for yourself.

worth a drive

By greg s |

one of the most iconic lighthouses i have seen in person. we thought it might be too crowded, but it was easy to get in and out. we got some great pictures.

Love The Nubble Lighthouse !

By scrappingmytravels |

We are lucky enough to visit York in June, August and October.
The lighthouse is beautiful during all times.
I love the little gift shop too !

Fantastic views!

By dfb260 |

A beautiful, coastal spot! The lighthouse itself is not open to the public; however, there is free parking and the views are great. Worthy of a visit of you are in the area. A public park; no admission charge. Watch your footing if you explore the rocks! Find a place to sit and enjoy the scenery.

Picture Perfect

By TrayBN |

Whenever we are in the area we make visiting the Nubble a must. The Nubble always makes us smile. We were there for the first weekend in October and the crowds were even bigger than when we had visited in summers past. The gift shop has the usual souvenirs and restrooms.

A Nice Morning Activity

By Bobbi S |

More than checking out this lighthouse, we (three sisters) enjoyed simply sitting on the nearby rocks, doing some people & ocean watching. The lighthouse is good enough to see, although we wished we could have been able to go right up to or into it, but sitting in the sun, listening & watching the ocean crash against the rocks, check out all the many, many people taking selfies here was good enough for us. The visitor center is also a good find, and the folks working there are happy to share history, kids' crafts & other info with you. Get here early if you want to get a parking spot, or be prepared to wait in the line of cars waiting for someone to pull out of a spot.

Nice Lighthouse

By Kevin R |

Beautiful Lighthouse. The view around it were tremendous. Nice Gift Shop with friendly staff. Easy parking.

Magnificent but overrun with tourists!

By Serviceprof |

Lighthouse is a photographer’s dream. Sitting magnificently out on rugged coastline it epitomizes New England. The only problem is like many other treasures it is overrun with tourists. I suspect an early morning visit or late afternoon one will find you with many fewer individuals crawling over landscape.

Simply stunning

By Joe D |

A simply stunning Lighthouse, in a lovely area of Maine. Parking was accessible and not a far drive from York. A must visit in the area

Iconic New England Lighthouse

By Peg M |

The Nubble is a beautiful New England lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is on a small rocky island right off the coast and not accessible to the public but it is still a sight to see. There is a small parking lot and gift shop. Parking can be an issue but be patient because people are coming and going regularly. Gift shop has the standard touristy items but sitting outside the shop is an elderly man selling prints of his lighthouse paintings and he will add your name to a boat in the painting ALL for $10.00 and all monies donated to the lighthouse!!

You can see it, but you can't go there

By Beth S |

We were hoping to walk in the lighthouse, but you could only look at it from across the bay. This was the end of the season, and the gift shop was closing. The place was packed on a beautiful Saturday.

Always a great view

By gypsywomen2 |

You can never have a bad day after a visit here. Yes the parking lot can get full, but it's worth the wait. Spend a few minutes breathing in the salt air and enjoying the view. Rainy, sunny, blizzards all worth ignoring to see this view.

Scenic, historic, iconic

By Russell W |

This is a beautiful lighthouse in a beautiful location. Prepare for crowds. Go during off hours. No fee, no facilities.

Calming park

By September_Love |

Road coming from long sands is currently under construction. Having been born and raised in York, the nubble was always been a calming place to me, even more so now since I've moved away and started a family. When ever I'm visiting I always make sure I stop by.

Beautiful spot

By Crissy K |

Stunning. We went in the evening and were able to see it with full sun and as the sun was setting. There is a parking lot and cars moved in and out. The lighthouse is on a island so this is as close as you can get. Nice area to walk around with benches all around you can sit on and enjoy the views. Take a minute to relax and just enjoy.

Beautiful lighthouse, grounds and coast views but NOT lit at night

By BassetMa |

We tried to go to Cape Neddick Light in the evening but discovered it is NOT lit at night despite having seen lots of photos. The next day we did go and it is very photogenic and the coastal views pretty. A must if in this area.

Beautiful spot for our one stop in Maine.

By 1-Year-of-Adventure |

A spectacular view! Great place to take shots of the lighthouse and the ocean. Just beautiful. The gift shop was closed but the Christmas tree out the front was great. We had very limited time and really wanted to get into Maine so this is where we got to. It was worth it.

Beautiful

By Drea M |

So beautiful... Very peaceful, relaxing , I would definitely go again and again , easy to get to , and lots of parking

Great stop

By Adamson100 |

Made a quick stop and was able to see the light house and take some great pictures. Crazy to think how people get out to the island and lighthouse.

Scenic Lighthouse

By BeachWalker143 |

Nubble Light is a very scenic spot just off the coastal shoreline. You can sit on rocks overlooking the little island the lighthouse is on and see a variety of shorebirds. It’s an easy drive from the Portsmouth Kittery area.

On a small island but very close to the mainland.

By Marmie29 |

The originality of this lighthouse is that it is located on a small island very close to the continent, which allows you to still admire it up close.
Very pretty lighthouse but it's a shame that the parking lot is right in front, it misses the wild aspect.

Gorgeous setting

By Cherry_Wonderdog |

One of the prettiest lighthouses you’ll ever see. We saw it from Long Sands Beach and decided to take the 5 minute drive to the end of the road in order to experience the absolutely stunning vistas from across the water. It’s a gorgeous setting of a picturesque lighthouse and adjoining wooden shed, decorated in season, with the sun beaming down from the deep blue sky, with reflective waters winking wearily at watchful wanderers in wonder.

ICONIC 1879 LIGHTHOUSE ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES

By Maurene_K |

I never tire of revisiting the Cape Neddick Light Station a/k/a The Nubble.

Along with Portland Head Light, it is one of the prettiest and one of the most-photographed lighthouses.

One of things I really like about this lighthouse is that it’s almost a twin to the Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse near where I live. The Nubble is about 41 feet tall and was first lit in 1879. Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse is 48 feet high and was built in 1878. The architectural style of both is Late Victorian. Both are on the National Register of Historic Places.

One can always get great photos of this lighthouse because it is on Nubble Island about 100 yards across a narrow channel. One will not get other visitors walking into one’s photos.

During this visit, I met people from many different places. I spoke with a nice couple from Billerica, MA who were up on a daytrip.

Also, at the time, the cable car to and from Nubble Island was hooked up. Back in the 1800's, there was a manual version of this that the lighthouse keeper used to go ashore to get supplies and bring them back and for his boy come and go for school.

As usual, I enjoyed my visit. The lighthouse itself is very scenic and photogenic. It’s also very well maintained by the Town of York which has owned the lighthouse since 1998.

Twice a year – July and December – the Town of York decorates the outline of the lighthouse with white lights and illuminates them at night for a couple of weeks.

I rate this visit at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit.

The reason for the delay in submitting this review was due to a months-long loss of my ability to post photos with my reviews and some health issues.

Nice quiet stop

By Whse340 |

Day was a bit foggy and cold but still a nice quiet place to stop and see the scenery. Dog friendly and plenty of places to sit

Known as one of the most photographed lighthouses in America.

By NHjo |

I've been here literally hundreds of times and never get tired of the lighthouse and the views. It's especially pretty when the beach roses are in bloom.

Wonderful spot to visit.

By lnglgs |

While technically the in-between of "summer season" & "leaf-peepers", the Nubble was still busy. And a wonderful and beautiful spot. You drive up to the parking area & it's right there. It's definitely worth the time to get through town. Tide was coming in, so not much rock walking They need a sign with tide times, that would help. Good pics though. Totally accessible for people with mobility issues. Great little gift shop (with restrooms) as well.

A well maintained site, just what you imagine

By Edmondgrams |

Looked like a postcard, clean and nautical. I went to visit a couple, was just driving around and if one was close I drove over. Glad I did.

ONE OF MAINE’S MUST-SEE LIGHTHOUSES

By Maurene_K |

No trip to beaches in York is complete without a drive out to Cape Neddick Light a/k/a The Nubble.

After a trip to Long Sands Beach and Long Sands General Store for lunch, I went to Cape Neddick Light, one of the most-photographed lighthouses in Maine. It’s most likely second to Portland Head Light, the most-photographed lighthouse in the world.

At the time of my visit, it was near high tide, and it was quite windy. The waves were crashing on the rocks and sending up some spray. With a nearly-cloudless sky, the lighthouse was as picturesque as ever.

With the lighthouse out on Nubble Island about 100 yards from Sohier Park off Cape Neddick Point, it’s always easy to get photos of just the lighthouse property.

This lighthouse is a twin to Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, another 48-foot conical cast-iron, brick-lined lighthouse in New Castle. NH. What makes this one different is that it has unusual stanchions on the walkway railing up in the lantern room. They are trimmed with 4” brass miniatures of Cape Neddick Light.

During this visit, I saw several fishermen down on the rocks off to the side of the lighthouse. It's a popular spot.

And, nearby Fox’s Lobster House was doing a brisk business with outdoor dining.

Across the park road, I visited The Nubble Gift Shop inside the Sohier Park Welcome Center. It had a lot of souvenir merchandise that included T-shirts, caps, etc. at popular prices.

Don’t miss the sea roses that grow on the edge and in the middle of the parking lot. And, check out the hydrangeas planted around the Sohier Park Welcome Center / The Nubble Gift Shop.

I rate Cape Neddick Light at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit to this must-see attraction in Southern Maine.

There are some handicapped parking spaces up front in the parking lot that face the lighthouse directly. The parking lot is paved and level at that point so that someone in a wheelchair could get out of the car and move around to several parts of Sohier Park.

Pretty picture

By mon582 |

This spot provides a beautiful picture. One could not cross the water to walk up to the lighthouse. It’s out on its own island. We were still close enough to have a good view of the full property. It was very worth going to.

Lovekt

By AmyBGS |

Lovely spot with stunning views. Great for photos. Visited in the fall and was disappointed to find the restrooms closed for the season.

Nubble Lighthouse!

By Joanna L |

This lighthouse has many connections to my family so this was a special opportunity to get to visit. It was my grandparents "honeymoon" location, the theme of my cousins wedding (and proposal spot) and a childhood visit spot for my mom and her siblings. While you can't go over onto the island, you get the beautiful view of it set on the ocean, and water bursting up onto the rocks, the birds sitting atop the rocks, and so much more. The parking is VERY crowded, but there are lots of places to sit and enjoy the view, a great giftshop (Where 100% of profits go to the maintenince of the lighthouse) and clean restrooms. Must visit!

Beautiful View for Sunset

By Heather K |

We love visiting the lighthouse at sunset. Gorgeous, romantic setting. Follow up with a walk-in Long Sands and the evening is made.

Iconic Nubble Lighthouse

By snl1129 |

The Nubble Lighthouse is a quintessential New England experience and we're so lucky to be locals! This iconic lighthouse just takes the stress out of your entire being no matter what season you visit! Even our pets get all their holiday photos taken here!

Standing Tall On All Weather

By Romel S |

Magnificently braving the winds and waves of the seas to give warning to mariners of perilous conditions on the landing approach. Still standing tall.

Scenic Overlooks

By Renee M |

This was a very pretty area. I would recommend going when the weather is pretty good, otherwise it feels very very cold. There were views from every angle, and beautiful houses to see. Plenty of places to just sit and enjoy the area. If you walk down the coast there are a lot of places to eat across the road from the beach.

Beautiful!

By Spacet35 |

Very beautiful spot on the water. I was visiting family in NH and wanted to go see a lighthouse. We had lunch and hung out on the rocks and I could have stayed there all day. The one thing I wasn’t happy about was the parking. There is a parking lot but not big enough for the amount of people that were there. I would recommend going to see this place.

Love visiting the Nubble Light and walking on the rocks!

By Patty H |

As we visit the Nubble Light house, we always make time to walk on the rocks at low or high tide. On the North side is a place where the Light House Keeper would park his white row boat when going back and forth for supplies and visits ashore. This is where my Grandfather's Bench is "Paul & Roy Heath of Concord, NH" We can sit and watch the scuba divers go out and practice their skills or on quiet days the fishermen are there.
There are simple walking paths and handicapped spots so that a Wheel Chair or Walker or bus load of visitors can enjoy the sight. One of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine as it is so easy to get to. in 1874 Congress appropriated $15,000 to build the light station and by 1879 it was put into use. There is a cable that stretches from the Nub of the Light House to the solid telephone pole across on the land where the visitors are. It's white basket was used to transport groceries before the light was mechanized.
Have you seen the turtle? If you look closely on the southern side of the nub of land, you can see the rock have formed the profile of a turtle's head with it's right eye looking out to sea and a distinctive jaw line. If you have a good imagination the other rocks then look like the back of the turtle which is "Carrying the Nubble Light on it's back!" Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Good luck finding it! It's how we local can tell if the artist painted/ sketched the actual rock, or took the liberty to ad lib!

A Must-See Lighthouse

By Kelli |

We visited this lighthouse on our first day in Maine and it was absolutely gorgeous. There was free parking available for visitors and it wasn't overly crowded compared to some of the other lighthouses we visited. Although you can't get right next to the lighthouse (it's on a small island across from the main land), you can walk out onto the rocks to get a closer view. There are plenty of benches available for those who choose not to go out onto the rocks as well!

Sunset Coming Down at the Nubble Light

By PegD |

Classic iconic Light - clamber over the rocks - watch the tourists and locals snap memories - was hoping for a nearby t-storm to grab some photos - but passed us by - enjoyed sunset coming down at the Nubble and dinner at Fox's Lobster Restaurant right next door - great food - lobster every which way and pie -- stay for the warm blueberry pie - with blueberry ice cream w/ the Nubble right outside the windows - or pop into the gift shop and ice cream - extra treats.

Beautiful scenic views with a nice place to eat

By Memaw & Papa |

My sister and I loved our visit to Nubble. It was gorgeous! The views all around were breathtaking. There is also a great little restaurant with outside seating next to the gift shop.

Beautiful

By Nikki |

This Light House is absolutely beautiful... a must see if you are in the area.

We climbed a bit down on the Rocks .. it was such a great Day

Stunning

By LauraMcT |

While it is a shame there is no way to visit the lighthouse itself, it's a lovely spot to enjoy the view.

Always a glorious sight, but even better lit up for the holidays

By NHjo |

While passing through York, I couldn't resist making a detour to see the lighthouse lit up for the holidays -- a sight I never get tired of. This year it'll be lit during the entire month of January, probably to give people some needed cheer during the pandemic.

View from our room

By BostonsMike |

This was our view from our hotel. It was also a short walk away. We were there during preseason. The gift shop was close but try were setting up so we were able to buy a small item. You cannot get to the lighthouse island but the rocky beach was great to walk around & view the lighthouse.

Great view of a lighthouse.

By KenFromIllinois |

This is a great stop as you are enroute to other destinations. We weren't very lucky as we stopped during the October 2019 Cyclone Bomb- northeasterner and the winds were running a constant 20 mph with gusts to 30.

Beautiful Location

By Mark S |

The parking can become difficult, but if you time your visit properly their are plenty of spaces. You cannot visit the lighthouse, it is on an island a few hundred feet away from the coast. There are plenty of photo opportunities of the lighthouse, the ocean and waves crashing against the rocks. It was really nice to find a volunteer that took time to tell the story of the lighthouse, he was very knowledgeable. Their is a gift shop and local restaurant nearby. The gift shop maybe a bit overpriced but that is how they raise money for upkeep on the lighthouse. The restaurant is not associated with the lighthouse. We really enjoyed the views.

Stunning

By nonsense193 |

This is a beautiful lighthouse. Well kept and scenic surroundings. Just picture perfect. It was a windy day so the waves were crashing to make it picture perfect

Beautiful Main Lighthouse

By Glenda M |

The view of Nubble is quintessential Maine! Although not a perfectly clear say, we got great pictures. WEAR GOOD WALKING SHOES! Some of the rocks are coated and slippery.

Worth a stop...even if just for a short while to see the views!!

By MidwestKathM |

After two days in Maine, we were heading back home but I still hadn't seen a lighthouse! So we decided to stop here to enjoy the view and a small picnic dinner. Unfortunately the storm clouds and cooler weather moved in as we drove south and by the time we reach the park, it was dark and windy and cool and rainy. Plus the parking lot was packed. Truly I had thought this was a green park with more than just the parking lot (and two seaside restaurants nearby). But the views were dramatic with waves crashing and the dark stormy clouds above. We ate our sandwiches in the car before moving on. Worth the stop!!

Very threatening prohibitions

By Tnlfnc |

Despite being marked on the guides, the lighthouse is no longer accessible. Signs at the entrance road definitely discourage even the sportiest. Too bad!

Iconic view

By JennyMc |

Well cared for lighthouse. Beautiful views. Great stop for a picnic! Easy to access and benches to sit and admire to setting sun.

Very photogenic lighthouse

By David C |

This is a great spot. It’s free to park and you can play on the rocks or just sit and watch the waves. The lighthouse is perched up on the island just across a small channel. It’s a great place for pictures because it’s so easily accessible and so visible. There were many who were fishing so I guess it’s a good spot for fishing. There are a lot of parking spots and a bathroom on the outside of the visitor center. Many places available to sit and enjoy a picnic lunch. You could probably launch a kayak here if you tried but the waves are deep water waves, this is not cove or bay protected waters.

Great spot for photography!

By notb4mybeer |

This is a photographer’s dream. Beautiful location with nearby parking and easy to get to. The rocky shoreline has tide pools and it’s a great introduction to Maine’s beautiful landscapes.

Captivating

By Edie A |

This is a must-see. Beautiful lighthouse and scenery. We sat on the rocks and took it all in. There's parking and a gift shop. There is no public access to the lighthouse, but it's right there for pictures. Definitely want to see this again.

Nubble Light House

By Stay777758 |

Gorgeous light house and arguably the most photographed light house in the US. It is a very short distance from the mainland and sits on an island but you can still get nice photos.

Beautiful Spot.

By nhlefty |

Great Location with incredible views. Outstanding at high tides with the waves crashing the rocks. Gift shop and restaurant nearby.

Beautiful - even at night!

By crapschick |

Just beautiful! Even at night. Visiting from New Jersey, we hopped in the car at 8:30pm and headed up to the lighthouse hoping that during COVID it wouldn't be crowded. It wasn't so crowded and even at night it was gorgeous.

There are plenty of large rocks all around, along with benches to sit and just watch the moon beam down on the water with the waves crashing in front of you. The stars were crystal clear. Everyone there was very respectful and found their own nooks and crannies to sit and just be at peace with the water.

We'll have to go back during the day at some point to get a different experience.

Daughter's wedding and site seeing with my wife

By Peter |

Enjoyed the area. Plenty to do and see. We had a great time. Daughter's wedding at York Harbor Inn. We had a blast in the area.

One of the prettiest lighthouses to visit!

By Pamela R |

This place never gets old. We have been to York, Main 5 times and every time we make it a point to visit the Nubble. This was a bright and beautiful day and the view was spectacular.

Absolutly Beautiful

By babynbaby |

The park is absolutly beautiful and the view is really amazing. Now I know why the light house is number one for the most photographed in the united states.

Lighthouse on the bucket list

By Visilea |

During a fall foliage tour, one of our group requested that we find a lighthouse since she would like to see one in person. This one was along the way to one of our stops for the night. Despite the cold weather, this place is beautiful! There are no visitors to the lighthouse itself and you have to view it from across a small channel. Well worth going out of our way to view it.

Picturesque lighthouse

By gr8ful4222 |

The parking lot here is shared with Fox’s Lobster House, and when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon it was already packed. We had to circle several times before securing a spot. There’s a Welcome Center nearby that has flush restrooms and a gift shop.

What a picturesque spot!

By YotaPower |

Wow! What a beautiful spot to just enjoy a view. We ended up here by just driving around and then following signs when we saw them. Glad we took the time to walk around some as well. Very nice spot!

Picturesque

By peanut18881 |

Last stop on our trip to Maine and was not disappointed. Views were amazing. Anyone with an interest in lighthouses this is a must see.

Amazing views and one of my favorite places!

By jbrenz |

Love this lighthouse. When I’m in Maine, I have to go see Nubble! First visit was in May 2022, then again in September and October 2022, and it is so peaceful at night and stunning during the day! I’m so glad my friends introduced me to Nubble, because it has become one of my favorite spots!

Beautiful Sunrise location

By Baystate Images |

One of the most photographed lighthouses in the world and it's easy to see why. Visit early in the morning and they'll be many photographers lining the rocks to catch the sunrise.

Beautiful view, picturesque lighthouse

By 888travelert |

There are lots of lighthouses to see in Maine and this should be at the top of the list. It's such a scenics spot and reminds me of England, It's just beautiful.

Lovely day

By TravelDiva001 |

Such a beautiful setting and beautiful light house. A photographer’s dream! Plenty of parking and a nice gift shop. Everyone we met was friendly and informative.

Great place for pictures and no rush during the visit

By KDG2098 |

This visit is a great way to enjoy wonderful views of the ocean, and a great view of this lighthouse. Plenty of free parking and you can take your time in exploring the area. Small gift shop. Well worth the trip.

Nubble Lighthouse - Cape Neddick - York ME

By PandyPandora |

A good place to sit and watch the world go by for an hour or two. There is free parking at Sohier Park in York Beach, with a great view of the lighthouse on the island. There is also a lovely little gift shop at Sohier Park Welcome Center.

Do it! Go see it! It’s beautiful!

By Gabe |

This was a great stop. The ocean and the lighthouse were stunning. What great place to hangout at or take a date on. It’s soothing just to sit there and take in the views!

Worth the Side Trip

By belkm |

Beautiful coastline. Lighthouse is not accessible, but the viewpoint is gorgeous. The parking lot was full, but spots opened up pretty quickly. Small gift shop. No cost to park.

Great view

By Dannamy |

This was a beautiful view of the lighthouse. You can only see it from shore but it is close enough to enjoy the layout with the sea as the backdrop. Very picturesque.

Great views

By cjfog92 |

Great evening views and free parking make this a Maine must stop. We saw many people relaxing there and even some people fishing and a scuba diver. We were pretty surprised to see it so crowded in the evening.

Favorite Lighthouse

By bigtyke |

This is our favorite lighthose. We visit at least once on every visit to York. Not a whole lot of parking, but we always manage to find a place. We love it because it is on its own island and there are no people to spoil a good photo

Gorgeous in any weather

By travellerfromatown |

Even in the rain, this is a gorgeous lighthouse. Love the basket thing that runs from shore to the lighthouse to drop off supplies.

The best view in Maine!

By JeannetteE |

I have been coming to this spot for over 50 years and it never disappoints! Ever since I was a child vacationing in York, Nubble has always been the place to see and enjoy the endless view of the ocean, rocks, surf, sun and lighthouses. We now bring our grandkids here to continue the joy!

Nubble

By Kerry B |

Interesting to see a lighthouse on it's own island. You cannot get to it but you will have great photo ops. Parking is limited but free. Always someone coming and going so wait a minute or two for a parking spot. Amazing views.

Great

By Rue F |

Wonderful and rocky coast. We were blown away at God’s majesty. A lot of people were there but room to roam, kids loved it. The waves and the lighthouse were wonderful.

Quick stop

By Chris B |

We love a good lighthouse and this was on our way so we decided to stop. It's pretty straight forward, there's a small parking lot where you can view the lighthouse across the water. After maybe 20 mins or so we had all the pics we needed and we back on the road.

Comfort on the Coast

By sullific |

We are lighthouse people and visit them whenever we can. We have been to this one before, but stopped again when in the area because we had to have our lighthouse fix (there is a small one in Ogunquit, but difficult to get close to with crowds and cars and no parking...needs to be seen on a walking tour). Always a pleasure to see it. There is a small shop/visitors' center but closed at this time of year.

I just wish there were some sort of information or guide about the lighthouse (I don't remember it in the visitors' center either, just a shop). Many lighthouses have small museums or an informal guide. Considering this is one of the most famous in the world (the one that is pictured in the SETI spaceship which was sent into deep space with Beethoven's 9th, drawings of humans, etc., representing life on earth), it really deserves that.

Beautiful setting

By Scott B |

In our short stay in York We went twice..so beautiful and peaceful. The waves crashing was awesome. Highly recommend

The ultimate Maine experience

By Cara S |

The nibble lighthouse is a classic Maine experience. The lighthouse is beautiful and surrounded by a beautiful rocky coastline. You can smell the saltwater and hear the crashing waves. If you have not been, make it a priority.

Great Day to Site Outdoors by the Ocean

By Bernard L. Fontaine, Jr. |

We drove back up to lighthouse and sat on the park benches. The summer breeze was superb during the afternoon sun. The breeze coming off the water was equally delightful. After taking pictures, we headed out for an early evening dinner. It was nice that it was not crowded. So parking was easy.

Relax with a great view

By Katie J |

This place is beautiful! I’ve been here 3 different times, early morning, mid afternoon and evening. I would recommend sunset to be best. Only down side is parking lot is horrendous.

Quick Stop

By Bill S |

I stopped here on my way to Acadia. This is a very cool Lighthouse; it is on an Island so you can't actually get to it but pretty close. It was pretty crowded when I was there and parking is limited, I had to park up the road. Traffic was pretty bad as well. It was worth the stop.

Stunningly Beautiful

By Radrev |

A must stop if you are in the area. This place is different every day and is a beautiful place to visit.

Amazing view

By Napsterthecat |

Amazing view. If in the area its worth visiting. We visited on a clear day and it was stunning. Parking was pretty easy.

Sunny view & a great spot for photographers!

By Bhushan Timla |

Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse is very scenic and photogenic, a pretty busy place with lot of tourists in every day, It’s very well maintained by the Town of York and decorates the outline of the lighthouse with white lights and illuminates them at night for a couple of weeks in the holiday seasons (I'll visit again in evening time during this period). You could go down on the rocks and get some interesting photos of the lighthouse. It's on its own island, which is only a few hundred meters off shore, but the lighthouse and grounds aren't open to the public.

Classically beautiful

By silver2319 |

Sure Im biased as I grew up here...but the Nubble Lighthouse is always fun to stop by either just a drive by or get outside and explore the rocks and the tidal pools

Picturesque lighthouse

We stopped here while driving from Portland to Boston. I t was a Wednesday afternoon with gorgeous fall weather in early October, we found a parking spot right away. The parking is free, and you can see the lighthouse from the parking lot. We got off the car, the lighthouse was there in a small island, very close to shore. You can not get onto the island, but you can walk to the shore to get closer to the lighthouse. The pictures are like postcard perfect! We were there for about 30 minutes.

Beautiful views

By Mainer0 |

A great place to stop and take in the views. You cannot get to the light house but there are many places to relax to enjoy the ocean view. Pack a lunch and bring a camera.

Stunning

By Cindy Lou |

Had a great visit! Lots of tourists because the weather was awesome. People wore masks and kept physically distanced. We were at the point looking at the lighthouse. The gift shop run by York’s Park & Rec was excellent. A must visit - great for people of all ages!

Definitely stop if you're in the area

By jd2870 |

Stopped here during last year's road trip through NE on our way to Acadia. The lighthouse and town of Ogunquit were recommended as a lunch time detour on our way up from Plymouth by people we met down there. You can't actually get to the lighthouse - it's on a small island just off the shore from the parking area, but the view is phenomenal. The kids loved exploring the the rocky shore and we were able to take our shoes off and (carefully) get our legs wet in the ocean. It is only a short detour from 95 and worth the stop even if you happen to be passing through as we were.

Picture perfect.

By Gene R J |

We stopped here for our light picnic lunch, happy to find a parking spot. It's a perfect postcard picture of Maine with the close view of an island lighthouse, then add people taking selfies, pictures of the coastal houses/hotels and others fishing with their dogs. A really pleasant place to spend an hour.

Scenic walk

Fabulous area, lovely walk along the water made better by Fox’s Seafood Restaurant - top notch for food and service!

Please stop and photo the greatest vista that you can't walk to cuz its on an island...Great view with afternoon sun on the buildings!!!

Breathtaking Views!

By melissaf0131 |

We stopped by the Nubble Lighthouse en route to Kennebunkport and were in awe at the gorgeous scenery. While you cannot access the lighthouse, you can still get amazing views of it from the shore. Be sure to arrive early, especially in the summer, as parking can fill up quickly. We loved exploring along the rocky shore. Definitely a must see if you are in the area!

Great site!

By Jan C |

Every time I come to Maine I have to check out the Nubble Light house - Just a great site - so beautiful.

Go when it’s wild and windy!

By Chris H |

Popped in on the way past, and the ocean spray made it very dramatic. Good to wait and see which is the biggest waves!

It's All About the View

By kcsdelimom |

While you can not go up in the lighthouse because it is on it's own little island, the views are just beautiful. There is free parking, and we had no trouble getting a spot, but I'm sure there are times when it might be difficult. There were people fishing and picnicking on the rocky shore and others enjoying ice cream from a nearby restaurant. There are clean restrooms and also a gift shop on the property, as well as several plaques giving information on the lighthouse.

Atlantic Ocean views at their best!

We have a cottage in Maine. One of our favorite places is Nubble light! Have been going there since the 1970's! It never gets old. Great place to go.

Make sure you stop here!

By 1RaiderFan |

Excellent! Sweeping views and what a picturesque place. We snapped great photos here and had fun climbing on the rocks. Not to be missed!

Really beautiful place. Romantic, rocky coastline. lighthouse located just offshore. Parking free onsight. Beautiful view on bothe north and south sides.

Sight seeing

By Kevin S |

Took a drive from NH up to Maine we decided to check out the lighthouse. We weren’t disappointed. The granite cliffs provide a scenic view of the lighthouse just offshore. Lots of maritime history in this area. Make a day trip it’s worth your time

Fabulous gem

By greenpanther30 |

Beautiful exposed location. When the weather is good, its just a sublime place to see. At the end of a long suburban street it seems a surprise when you arrive. Well worth the detour. Enjoy

Best views for a lighthouse!

By Bogdog44720 |

This one is a real gem! The ocean breeze here is always in invigorating and you can often pull your car up, roll down the window and listen to the waves hitting the rocks. Located near York Maine it makes for a great trip. The sunrises here are spectacular! In the winter after Thanksgiving they put Christmas lights on the lighthouse!

Majestic Crashing of Waves

By Lori M |

Sat for an hour on the boulders and watched the waves crashing on the rocks. It was my place of peace, even though it was windy and overcast. Just a pleasure to sit and observe God's mighty power in the sea! The sea was always changing - loved the huge spray of water as the waves hit the shore!!

Senic Stop

By paxvobiscum |

This lighthouse is classic New England, and a family favorite for three generations. Whenever we're in the area, we need to visit Nubble.
Access and parking can be a problem, especially if a tour bus shows up. My suggestion to to try to arrive around low tide, and if you don't mind stepping from boulder to boulder, you will get some views that are different than those from the parking lot.

Beautiful view

By Dave34698 |

A visit to the lighthouse is a must. Waves crashing in along the seashore. T he lighthouse in the background. A place to have a cup of coffee and sightsee.

Nubble Light Is A National Treasure

By NHWanderlust |

We're lucky enough to live within driving distance of the Nubble Lighthouse and try to visit at least once or twice a year. It's a beautiful sight no matter what season you happen to be there. Summer is busy, but the lighthouse is just as lovely in the spring and fall, and the lighthouse is lit up at Christmastime for a special treat. On the same street you'll find restrooms, a gift shop, a restaurant, an ice cream shop, and not too far away you'll be at two of the best beaches in the area: Short Sands and Long Sands Beaches. So much to do in the area, but the lighthouse alone is worth the trip.

Nubble Lighthouse and Blueberry Ice Cream- Perfect!

By FlowersontheTable |

Totally worth the 35 minute drive from Kennebunk to York to see the lighthouse. You can sit on benches or walk on the rocks for fantastic views. There’s also a visitor center and a restaurant. I arrived closer to sunset, which is my favorite lighthouse viewing time, so the visitor center closed before I made it in, but the restaurant and ice cream window were open. Another blueberry ice cream for me while visiting Maine! It’s a popular destination and the parking lot can get full but people are always coming and going. I arrived closer to sunset so it wasn’t too bad. This is definitely a Maine lighthouse you should visit.

Worth seeing any time of year

By kthomasva |

I love this location and lighthouse - and have only seen in the off season! This time we had unseasonable warm weather so we were able to spend time climbing on the rocks and getting some fantastic pictures while enjoying the salt air, the view and the wildlife.

Not much to see

By MLE0904 |

We were they on a drizzly afternoon. We got out of the car, walked to the cliff which is quite a ways from the lighhouse and took some pictures. Took about 10 minutes and most of that was pionding a parking space.

an outstanding spot to take a picture postcard photo.

By Barry N |

what a photo op location. this outstanding place is where so many people go to take that picture post card photo. you can walk almost up to the house itself and take great pictures. be careful on the rocks around it. there is a spot for parking.
a great stop on the way North. The view itself is worth the trip.

Beautiful, Picturesque Lighthouse

By PowerTrippers |

My wife is crazy about lighthouses so I put together a Massachusetts-Maine lighthouse road trip for her. Out of all the great lighthouses we saw, Nubble was our 2nd favorite after Portland Head.

The lighthouse is located on a small island, but there is a viewing area very close so you can get great views. The entire area is beautiful and lends itself to some amazing photos. There is also a gift shop and public restrooms on site, and a great seafood restaurant just across the street.

Nubble is definitely a "must see" for any fan of lighthouses.

Gorgeous Lighthouse

By FLVisitors |

This lighthouse was stunning and you could get close enough to take stunning photos. The rocky coast provided great contrast to the smooth lines of the lighthouse. Definitely should be on everyone’s list when in the area.

By Joyce L |

The views were amazing, was the first one on our list to visit. Visited in the evening so parking not that bad. Can only be viewed from afar.

Always a stunning view.

By NHjo |

You shouldn't pass through York without seeing Nubble Lighthouse, even if you've seen it before. It never gets old. We went a half-hour before sunset this time around.

Nubble Lighthouse

By Kimberly F |

This is one of the most photographed light houses in Maine. There is no public access to the lighthouse but you are able to take beautiful photos of it. The park is breathtaking gorgeous. It also has a cliff walk making it easy to take it the coastline and lighthouse. This is a must stop!

Incredibly gorgeous

By Sandra B |

One of the most stunning locations I've ever seen! Great location for pictures. Good ice cream just down the road too.

I see the light

By Stevie B CT |

Visited the Nubble Lighthouse alone and then with family. Truly amazing. Seeing the basket which carried people or supplies was cool. The area is so lovely and a nice walk.

Free and fun for the whole family

By JanetWoo |

Went during Memorial Day weekend. The weather was foul, but we all still enjoyed ourselves. 2 young adults and 2 middle-aged adults were in the party. I have bad knees, so I stayed upstairs seated on a bench. My husband and the kids climbed down to the beach over the rocks, and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The only shame is that you can't get over to the lighthouse, but great pictures were taken regardless. Also no bathroom or snacks. But it seemed to be very popular with bicyclists and foreign tourists.

Picturesque Lighthouse

By DLP |

We visited on an overcast day and the sight of the lighthouse was still magnificent! There are rocks and tiny shorelines from which you can get pictures at different angles. Parking was not an issue as people were constantly coming and going. It is not a stop that requires a long amount of time but it is a stop that is worth making. Adorable gift shop and clean bathrooms onsight.

Located in a charming coastal town

By Teammilitello |

What a gem of a place Wells is. We loved the nautical feel of every building in the area. The lighthouse is still active as witnessed by the flashing red light. Got great photos that you can only take in Maine.

Stunning

By Hgtravl |

While visiting Maine, we stopped at multiple lighthouses. Nubble was beautiful! Easy parking (free) The parking lot over looks the cliff & the lighthouse is right across. You can’t “walk” to it as it’s surrounded by water but it’s close enough to enjoy! It was low tide & we were able to walk down on the rocks to get a little closer. Iconic & famous Maine lighthouse on the rocky coast. They have a nice gift shop right in the parking lot that offers clean restrooms to use.

Love this lighthouse!

By Chris |

Quintessential lighthouse, quaint little roadside park. Great spot for photos and easy to get to. Near several nice towns. Well worth a stop any time of year, in any kind of weather. Must stop.

First and A Must Visit Lighthouse in Maine

By HeaveNEarth |

There are many lighthouses in Maine you could visit. But if you're not into the lighthouse or one of your members does not like the lighthouse, then make this lighthouse your fist and last lighthouse in Maine. This is, I believe, the first lighthouse you would hit when you drive up to Maine. It has parking lots close to sea and the lighthouse. As you soon as you get off your car, you're practically at sea and the lighthouse. Nice sweeping views.

Great lighthouse in Maine

By Mitchstewart |

My favorite little lighthouse. one of the best picture spots around. don't miss the little gondola like passageway that they use to ferry the kids across in the morning and afternoon to go to school.

Beautiful Lighthouse

By Radrev |

We were not able to tour the lighthouse, but the visit is breathtaking. The ocean views with the lighthouse in it are amazing.

This is a Lighthouse!

By Cac1234 |

When we visited Cape Neddick NUbble Lighhouse there were several plein air painters there and we certainly could see why they chose that spot. The lighthouse makes the perfect subject for a coastal painting. When in the area it is worth a stop.

One of the best sites in Maine!!!

By WilliamWillieWilson |

This might be the best stop in all of Maine outside of Acadia National Park! Dramatic waves come roaring into two different bays on two sides of the road, crashing against the rocks. The lighthouse cannot be visited as it’s situated on a separate private island. But it provides the perfect backdrop for the quintessential picture of the Maine coastline.

From here, you can walk into the main intersection of downtown York where shops and treats abound. Having seen every point of interest in Maine, this is one of the top two or three things that you truly DO NOT miss!

A Great Place to visit, Maines answer to Peggys Cover in Nova Scotia

By Oven-Boy |

I have been going there for 70 years, they do not have the goats at the light house anymore, but it looks just like it did. A time travel to a earlier time.

Worth the visit

By David F |

Really beautiful views and even better view of the lighthouse. It’s free, the only thing is there is very limited parking.

Charming Spot

By fiamma11 |

When is this area Nubble Lighthouse is definitely worth a look and a photograph and a walk around. It is a beautiful spot and a somewhat iconic sight.

Cross Off Another Maine Lighthouse

By Joyce |

As a resident of Maine, I'm not sure how I've never been to this lighthouse but that was remedied this weekend. We stayed in Tork Beach overnight and woke up this mor ing to 50 degree weather and full sunshine in January. Excellent timing to see this place! Beautiful lighthouse, ocean was tremendous and loved visiting in the off season.

Beautiful Sight

By Msugirl76 |

This is one of the most fabulous photo sights. It was a beautiful day and the view was magnificent. The only downfall was that I must have missed the regular open season for the gondola out to the lighthouse. Nevertheless, well worth the trip and really enjoyed the scenery.

Nice view

By s s |

Great views parking is there but may have to wait for a spot. Plenty of places to sit and just relax. Restrooms are close by

Must go!

By kerrih442018 |

So worth a stop and photo op! Very relaxing, listening to the waves crash on the rocks. I’m always curious what the guys are diving for on the one side of the shore!

Don't miss this!

By J M |

We drove from Ogunquit to see the lighthouse. Our whole family loved this little adventure. The little cape is so cute and the lighthouse is so pretty. You don't need much time to visit- an hour tops. There are lots of benches to sit and look at the lighthouse and lots of rocks to climb on if you are adventurous. The small visitor center is nice too. It was oppressively hot when we went but another time I would walk around the fun little town.

Wonderful View

By Darren L |

Worth the short ride out to see the lighthouse and the surrounding coastline. Parking may be a bit of a challenge and require some patience. Allow 15-30 minutes to visit. There are places to get food and ice cream and they looked quite busy on the weekend.

Light The Way

By gladysbarros66 |

What a breath taking experience. We had to stop and visit again before leaving Maine. The waves crashing on the rocks were incredible and the lighthouse on the hill made for perfect pictures.

A Picture Perfect View

By TarHeel071 |

Absolutely beautiful. The weather was perfect and quite a few tourists viewing the lighthouse and surrounding area. Luckily we were able to grab a parking spot so we were able to walk around and visit gift shop and water areas.

Gorgeous place to visit at any age

By Michelle C |

Stunning views!!! Lots of parking. Great photo opportunities !!
Romantic walks on the rocks. A must visit for the entire family

Quintessential Maine

By 649001 |

Somebody described this place as "quintessential Maine". That's true! The place is beautiful! The lighthouse, the ocean, and cliffs... Red, white, gray, and blue colors... You can add overpriced lobster roll and blueberry ice-cream for a full Maine experience.

A foggy visit.

By NHjo |

It was extremely foggy and cold when we went to Nubble Lighthouse, but it was still a nice experience. We took a lot of pictures of the lighthouse and the family. The kids had a great time walking on the rocks (but not too close to the edge). The holiday lights were recently removed, but it would have been awesome to see the lighthouse and outbuildings lit up in the fog.

Sunny Nubble Day

By amathesontrips |

March in Maine can be cool and foggy but we got a burst of sun for our day at the Nubble. The off season meant no crowds with lots of space to wander and explore the rocky coast. Small coastal birds and ducks everywhere. Watch out of the seagulls diving for snacks.

Fantastic views

By Elle23Kaye |

We went to this lighthouse at the beginning of May, so it was not very crowded. We had no trouble finding a parking spot, but I could see how in the middle of summer it would be frustrating to find parking. It was fun to walk around and explore some tide pools. The views are incredible. We did not go into the gift shop or try any of the restaurants in the area.

Very scenic lighthouse.

By Davigeta |

This is a very beautiful lighthouse located on a small island. It is not easily accesed, but the views of the lighthouse and the area are great. Worth a visit.

Lighthouses

By Jackson |

Nice picture area. Incredible tides. Not a lot of parking. We arrived mid week in Sept. Saw several couples sitting on chairs reading books.

Breathtaking views

By Andrey N |

This was our first visit. The fantastic view took our breath away. This special place is very peaceful, it so good good to sit and watch the waves, the rocks, the lighthouse, the sky and the seagulls… This lighthouse is iconic one of Maine. Highly recommend this spot for visitors in the area.

Absolutely must see if staying in Portland!

By Marie F |

So happy to have found this lighthouse within an hour of Portland! I thought the Portland Head Light would be the only major lighthouse we would be able to visit on our trip to Portland. We didn't have time to drive far north up the coast. York was only about an hour ride south with just as stunning views as the Head Light!

Worth a Trip- Columbus Day Weekend

By Kelly V |

Getting to the lighthouse, was a treat as well. You travel through an upscale neighborhood, where everyone was out jogging and walking. Beautiful houses on the water. The lighthouse is beautiful, great views, very windy, dress warm in cooler weather!

Great views

By DianeTheAdventurer |

We went here recently when staying in York and it’s beautiful. I know in the winter they decorate it nicely with lights. Just be careful navigating the rocks of you go down them. Very pretty to observe. Recommended.

Beautiful and breathtaking views

By ChChantraveler |

Beautiful area, can just sit here and enjoy the ocean views for hours. Awesome volunteer guide on site to give you brief history of lighthouse and area. Flower gardens had lots of monarch butterflies (migrating) this time of the year.

Quintessential Lighthouse

By Journey03907 |

What more can be said? It's the most iconic lighthouse in the world. Definitely worth a visit! Pro tip: go at dawn :)

Nubble Lighthouse

By brucekgarber |

A great destination located in York Maine for families or with friends or maybe by yourself. Very nice for photography any time of day. And its always different. The different ocean being sometimes calm and sometimes rough with splashing on the rocky seashore. Don’t forget the light to help set the mood. Sunrise or sunset to help with the glow on light can be fun.
Enjoy your visit!

Nubble Lighthouse Visit

By Patsy |

Went to see the Nubble Lighthouse October, 2019. Unlike other lighthouses, the public is not allowed to tour inside. I was disappointed with respect to that. My picture of the lighthouse is very similar to the one shown.

A must see!

By Jet07553756879 |

Nubble light was easy to get to, lots of parking!
The views are great! You can drive right up and snap pictures. You cannot walk up to the lighthouse. It is on an island but the pictures are great!

Classic Maine Lighthouse

By redeco |

Welcome to Maine! Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse is one of the most picturesque in the state. Built in 1879, the Lighthouse is situated on a rocky island a stone's throw from shore and was operational up until 1987 when it was automated. Easy to find just off route 1A, there is parking, and a small restaurant adjacent. Great fun to visit.

On the day of our visit, there was a scuba diving class taking place...interesting to watch.

What a beautiful spot in any season. Enjoy!

Beautiful ocean views and a lighthouse! Wonderful!

By Kmcoyle |

Gorgeous views of the rocky Maine coast, classic lighthouse, and free parking! Ya! You can not tour the lighthouse, but have a clear view of the little island and rope tow that connects the island with the mainland. The parking area is pretty small but turnover is fast. There are benches surrounding the area for a nice little picnic. The Visitor's Center is really more just a gift shop, but there were also clean rest rooms which was good.

York, Maine getaway with friends

By Tim Martin |

Had a great time in York, Maine. We went up for a good friends wedding. 12 of us (6 couples) rented a house and stayed 4 days. We took in the sites, ate local food. Mostly lobster! Had a great time. Saw the Hubble light house. Bought lobsters from Off the boat lobsters. It was amazing. Fall colors were in full affect. Would definitely go back.

Very picturesque lighthouse

By siddy666 |

Glad we decided to visit this lighthouse; very scenic and picturesque. It reminds me of the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse further north in Portland.

Would recommend visiting at sunset for getting some nice pictures

Only drawback is that it can get busy

one of the most photographed lighthouses

By JenniferandAlan |

This is one of the most photographed lighthouses and after visiting, you can see why. The red and white buildings are on a barren rock island called the nubble, hence its nickname "the nubble". There is a nice parking lot and many viewing areas. You can even climb on the rocks below but be careful. There is no bad view. A wonderful place to watch the ocean. Although there are crowds in the summer, you still get a feeling of peace. Don't miss this.

Great views

By Keith F |

We spent several hours here on multiple days just watching the waves. The views are always different every time we visit.

Charming and historical lighthouse!

By muffinAvon |

My husband and I had been to the Lighthouse a couple of years ago with family. This time we brought some friends to see it. A volunteer, John, offered to take our picture and then he began a fascinating story of the history of the lighthouse! He was very knowledgeable, humorous and shared many details that were we had not known. He also told us about the boat ride we could take around the lighthouse, which begins in Perkins Cove. Additionally we learned about a raffle for a special picnic and boat ride to the lighthouse itself, including a tour! Two of us signed up in the gift shop after making a small donation. The gift shop is worth checking too! How lucky we were to come across such an interesting volunteer!

Glad To Find It!

By RaceTravel |

It was a beautiful day for a drive up the coast of New Hampshire and Maine.
There was a little road construction close to the lighthouse, but we managed to get where we needed to go. There was ample parking. There were many visitors, all busy getting good photos. Even a couple school buses for a high school field trip.
It's a pretty spot and a picturesque lighthouse.
Well worth the trip to get there.

A Special Lighthouse

By Ohio Traveller |

We visited in the middle of October on a beautiful, crisp autumn day. We have been to Nubble Lighthouse before but went back again because it is one of our favorites. The visitor center and the restrooms were open that day but they do close around Columbus Day. One of the pictures we took might possibly end up on our Christmas card this year.

Tree lighting!

By Speedy38 |

Impromptu visit for the annual tree lighting has someone in our hotel said they go to every year. We didn't know where to park or what to do what we found the spot and walked about a mile to see the lighting. It was a fun experience to go to next time if we do you ever go we would go a little early and figure out a better spot to park. But it's worth visiting even if it's not near the holiday season. Great views great photo opportunities all the times of the year.

Photo Stop

By Krr1975 |

Had about 15 minutes here on a bus tour. Enough time to grab some wonderful photos. Make sure you notice the chair that the lighthouse keeper uses to get back and forth. Nice gift shop and restrooms are there as well.

This lighthouse is gorgeous in all seasons. We often take a short side trip to see this lighthouse on trips to Maine.

True lighthouse experience

By Colleen C |

Nubble is one of Maine most famous lighthouses and for good reason.
1) Its one of the first places you come across as you drive into Maine.
2) Free and abundant parking
3) Cute visitors center/ gift shop
4) Amazing views on the left and right sides of the lighthouse
5) Huge rocks to carefully walk on
6) Great resturant (fox's) and ice cream shop (Dunne's) right next door!

A Must!

Windy but beautiful site

By Witt |

Enjoyable visit. Extremely windy & cold. Most people stayed in car to take photos, but we got out, climbed on the rocks, and touched the waves splashing up. Went to the beach nearby to watch some crazy surfers out there enjoying the water. Ice cold.

Prettiest Lighthouse Ever!

By Trish W |

We stopped to see the Nubbles Lighthouse on our trip up the coast of Maine. We had no idea how beautiful this location is. It wasn’t overly crowded mid morning end of September. We were able to walk on the rocks although it was not low tide. You dont have to walk to get there—it’s right by the parking lot. I t is possibly the most photographed lighthouse and still pictures barely do it justice. A definite must do!

On the rocks, Nubble lighthouse

By mommadoc2420 |

Visited on a fall weekend near dusk, the parking is a little tights but the views from the rocks is spectacular. You can climb down on the rocks and get great photos with the rocks in foreground. However, getting back up to walkway can be a little bit of a problem as the drop is about 4 feet. So you have to place your gear up on top and climb up slowly. It helps to have someone to help you. At night the lighthouse is bright and able to be seen for miles. long exposure for waves.

Nice looking lighthouse

By TravelsWithGeorge |

You can’t go in the lighthouse but the views are beautiful and you can go down to the edge of the rocks and dip your toes. The gift shop is clean and has a good variety of Maine and lighthouse related products from hats and clothing to ornaments and things for the house.

There’s parking right there but if you’re looking for a more athletic visit it’s just a 30 minute walk from short sands.

Short worthwhile visit

By Bellsc22 |

Tried to go at beginning of trip on Memorial Day - too busy no parking. Went on a Friday morning on way to airport - much better. Great short stop.

Beautiful lighthouse - A must see if you are driving the coast of Maine.

By TravelinTif |

A must see if you are driving the coast of Maine and looking for lighthouses. The Nubble is picturesque even in the rain! The gift shop employees are very friendly. The parking lot was not full but we were visiting in late season.

Great photo stop, even on a dreary afternoon.

By Have Camera, Will Travel |

It was a very interesting lighthouse stop. The tide was low, so there were some tide pool areas we could explore. You could go down on the rocks and get some interesting photos of the lighthouse. It was a pretty busy place, even when rain was threatening. I had never seen a lighthouse quite like it. It's on its own island, which is only a few hundred yards off shore. There was also a Bald Eagle sitting on the top edge of the roof, which was a great bonus.

Impressive every time!

By KLATAMPA |

Have visited here before but this visit was an awesome experience! We were there at the time of the nor’easter storm and the waves crashing against the rocks was a mighty and powerful scene.
Since it was Columbus Day weekend, there were many people there. It will probably not be as crowded the rest of this year because things slow down after Columbus Day.
If you like lighthouse hunting, be sure not to miss this one!

Good luck with parking...

By Saireea |

The lighthouse looked awesome but there was no parking available. We could only drive past it multiple times. There was also no entrance to the lighthouse. You can only view it from outside.

Breathtaking views of the Maine coastline!

By jbrenz |

What a beautiful light house and the coastline of Maine. Of course, it was a foggy, dreary day, but the place was still gorgeous. I can’t wait to go back in October to see the lighthouse with the autumn colors. Just a very nice and clean area on the coast.

Wonderful views and peaceful

We had such a nice time exploring the area near the Nubble Lighthouse. There are so many rocky areas to explore and so many beautiful views to take in. Just a warning very limited parking

Perfect

By Angie G |

A perfect spot and must do if you are in the area. The parking is limited but is you are patient, a spot will come available. There is a restaurant nearby and an ice cream shop. Enjoyed watching people fish and kids playing in the rocks.

Beautiful view and history

By JOHN C B |

Amazing history, access and views at Nubble Lighthouse. York is also nearby and quaint. We enjoy visiting and sharing with friends during their first visits to New England. Always worth the trip.

Pretty lighthouse

By Kim R |

Made a quick stop on our way home from Kennebunkport. The lighthouse is beautiful and great for photos. You can't actually go out to the lighthouse, but there is a visitor's center. There is also plenty of parking there. There isn't really anything else to do there, but it was fun to read the few markers around it and to get some photos.

Nubble is worth the Trouble

By Michael W |

We were in York for a few days and decided to take a ride to the Nubble Lighthouse. It is a beautiful drive along the shore to the lighthouse. The trouble is the parking. We felt very fortunate to find a place to park. It was a nice day and a very enjoyable experience.

Nubble lighthouse walk

My husband and I took a walk from town (town of York) up to the Nubble Lighthouse which took about 25 minutes one way. The good part about the walk was we got a chance to grab some soft serve mango pineapple and strawberry Dole Whip from Dunne's ice cream shop which is about 20 minute walk going up and a 5 minute walk from the lighthouse. We were happy we walked up since there was quite a bit of car traffic once we reached the lighthouse. There is a restaurant and restrooms which we did not use. I recommend the walk but if you're not a walker then take the drive. It is a nice view.

Absolutely Beautiful!!

Absolutely beautiful spot for photos and just hanging out. We brought a sandwich and just let the world melt away for awhile as we enjoyed the amazing views and crashing of the waves.

Only from far away

By Noah S |

OK. Not the highlight of our trip.
Can be seen from far away on the island.
There are some nicer lighthouses in Maine.

You can't miss this

By worktotravel14 |

As a frequent visitor to light and lighthouses, this was a highlight of a trip to Maine this year. Though we were there during a very foggy and cloudy day, the nubble stood as a beacon of warning in the mist. Love that this is tucked away in what still feels like a fishing village, though the houses are now much fancier. It reminds me a bit of Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. There is a lot of history around the grounds and while the feature is the light and the rocky coast, there is a great gift shop, several fine memorials, and plenty of grounds to walk. On this stormy day, you could imagine how the light was a protector of great coastal ships. Great way to spend part of our first full day in Maine.

Christmas magic

Seeing the lighthouse decorated for Christmas was magical. It was a very cold and a few minutes before 4:00 the lights came on. I never noticed before but you can see candles in the windows.

"The Nubble" - One of the Most Beautiful Light Houses

By sandylovesCT |

This Lighthouse is a must-see if traveling through Southern Maine. We have visited it for fifty years. It is a sight that never gets old. We have visited it in beautiful balmy summer weather, Tidal Storms, all four seasons and it always captivates us. In the summertime, it can be a bit crowded but it is always beautiful. There are plenty of parking spaces facing three directions. There are clean bathrooms and a small gift shop during the summer season.

Beautifully lite during the Christmas season

By Michael H |

I’ve been to Nubble Light so many times from the time I was kid. It is perfect, picturesque Maine in the summer time. This is the first time I have gone during the Christmas season. It was stunning! Quiet, beautiful- a perfect place to reflect and catch your breath during the busy holiday season.

Beautiful lighthouse

By Nicole C |

We stopped at the Nubble Lighthouse on our way home from Ogunquit and I am so happy we did! It was a beautiful area to walk around, take some photos, and learn a little about the history of this lighthouse. While you cannot get close to the lighthouse (it is on its own island), it is still a great stop if you are in the area!

View

Beautiful view of the lighthouse even with fog.
So glad we made it to see this. My kids even enjoyed it. Highly recommend this drive to see it. Some cool antique places on the way to stop also.

Here's a parking tip: go for ice cream first.

By leneyB |

Very Cute lighthouse. While you can not actually get to the lighthouse, it is worth the classic view. Parking was difficult when we were there, likely peak tourist season. However, there is a delicious ice cream place just up the road. We parked there, got ice cream and walked over to see the lighthouse.

Spectular Views of the Lighthouse

Cape Neddick Nubble lighthouse9-6-25
This Nubble lighthouse is beautiful. The surrounding water and land that it sits on is just spectacular. This light house was built in 1897 and it looks like it was just put-up last week. It is in very good shape for its age. You cannot walk up to the Lighthouse as it sits on a small island. You get a very good view from the surrounding rocks. They do have some benches so you can sit and take in the views. This is a must see if you're into lighthouses you won't be sorry you did. There is a Welcome Center with restrooms plus a gift shop right near this and a fantastic Lobster restaurant called The Fox's Lobster House all within walking distance. The parking lot gets filled quickly and you may have to wait until someone leaves to get a spot but it's well worth it. I must give this Lighthouse a 5 out of 5 stars.

Surprised at Number of People on a Fall Weekday

By 2doglady |

I was surprised that the parking lot of approximately 60 spaces was almost full on a weekday fall afternoon. But after being there, I can understand why. This was a beautiful spot to just sit and enjoy the view — the lighthouse, the birds, the rocks, the waves, and the ocean sounds. There are some concrete benches to sit on and also a number of large rocks that are great for sitting while you enjoy the ocean. There is a small gift shop here and an eating place nearby. I did not stop there so I cannot tell you about the eatery. There is construction in the area but there are signs that lead you to the lighthouse. Dogs are allowed but they must be leashed. You might even like a picnic here. I really recommend this stop — it is just a lovely sight!

Lovely view, quick stop.

By zacsmimi1 |

I have been many times. This is a short stop, with a small parking lot and on busy days people simple circle until someone leaves... we usually stay about a half hour. You can climb a bit on huge rocks and watch the water, get great pics of this quite famous lighthouse. There's a small overpriced gift shop, but its a tourist place so that is to be expected. You can stay as long as you like - there are benches... and there are restroom facilities. There is also a seafood restaurant on site - which is always packed with a long wait - again - tourist engineered. We take our out of state visitors to this spot to see - and its near Walker's Point which is the Bush compound and interesting to see.

Gorgeous spot

Windy day! Gorgeous park and view of the spectacular lighthouse! Worth waiting for a parking place in busy times!

Beautiful Lighthouse!!

By tarheelhusker |

We visited in the rain and wind, and it was amazing!! The waves crashing on the rocks all around you makes this lighthouse very delightful! Gift shop there and benches all around for a great place to sit and take it all in.

Magical

By FlossEm77 |

Durning these trying times we all could use a little magic so go to Nubble Lighthouse & take in the wonder. This memorable experience begins before sunset. The western sky is ablaze as the sun falls below the horizon. The lights on the lighthouse come on about that time so stay to watch the progression as darkness falls. It is a most wonderful sight. If nothing else, it reminds us of the simple pleasures winter brings. Don’t miss it.

Cute lighthouse with beautiful views

By Sandy D |

This lighthouse went from four to five stars because it has a visitor's center with a shop and clean bathrooms. When you are on vacation flush bathrooms can be hard to find. This was a picturesque setting. It was quite windy. The lighthouse is on a separate island, so there are no tours, but we did not find any lighthouses with tours on the vacation. There was lots of parking. There was a tour bus there when we were so the shop was too crowded to bother with for long, but they seemed to have reasonably priced calendars, mugs etc.

Absolutely Beautiful

Absolutely beautiful easy parking and easy to take pictures and indulge in the beautiful surroundings

Rocky Point - Scenic Atlantic

By Prentiss P |

This lighthouse point juts out into the Gulf of Maine just north of York Beach. The lighthouse itself is not accessiable but the rocks and sea walls on either side are fun to walk out on and take photos. In bad weather it can be very windy and raw but on sunny days the views are spectacular. The only major problem is parking. There are just about 20 spaces, so if full, you're just out of luck. There is also a giftshop there full of Maine seacoast souvenirs and information about the natural environment.

Popular Lighthouse on York Harbor

By MaineMountainOwl |

One of Maine’s most photogenic lighthouses, this 41-foot (12.5 m) scenic beacon (built 1874) on a small island at the head of York Harbor was a magnet for tourists on our weekend mid-afternoon visit. Vehicles waited in queues for places to park in town-owned Sohier Park. A volunteer-run visitors’ center had restrooms, souvenirs, and information about the area. Several interpretive displays and a bronze marker described the site and its history. We enjoyed the view of the lighthouse, but not the throngs all around us. We’ll never return.

A picturesque spot on the coast of Maine with lots of beauty and history too.

By Tracy O |

Nubble Lighthouse is a picturesque spot on the coast of Maine for sightseeing and picture taking. We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon there and were given a science lesson from local University divers that showed us their catch and taught us about each animal/ shell they had found.
This place is worth visiting and capturing the beauty all around. Wear good shoes as the rocks can be slippery near the water.

Beautiful lighthouse & rocks

The beautiful lighthouse and rocky terrain are a sight not to be missed. Gift shop was one of the best we’ve visited and the couple running the shop were delightful.

Classic New England scene

By Jallard0600 |

Took a drive to see the Nubble Lighthouse during our recent stay in southern Maine. It’s a classic New England scene with waves crashing against the jagged rock island where it sits. Lots of places to capture some wonderful shots. Glad we went.

Really interesting

By stephenskier123 |

This was a really pretty spot and we were lucky enough to have a local guide tell us about the history of the area and about the families who manned the lighthouse.
Really interesting and great fun.
Weather was good when we were there so some good photo opportunities.

A Stop on the Way to Bar Harbor

By Kathy S |

Loved stopping at Nubble Lighthouse. My house wanted to paint a oil painting
of it. Had a great lobster meal at the restaurant there.

One of my favorite NE lighthouses.

By NHjo |

I stopped by on the way home because I never get tired of seeing Nubble Light. The area was packed with tourists -- it was a perfect summer day. The colorful pink sea roses are hanging in there but will soon be gone. I took some photos -- it's hard not to!

A nice place to visit

By Bob J |

This is a great place for a photo op as it has a lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean! Beautiful spot to relax and take in the beauty of what Maine has to offer with the great ocean view.
We didn't spend much time here, but we did get some nice pictures and relaxed a bit. I would say this is a nice 20 minute relaxing spot.
It's worth the trip to visit.

So beautiful

By Courtney S |

So beautiful!!!! Easy to find parking and so gorgeous. We will definitely be coming back to the area to explore more.

One of Maine's best lighthouses

It's so picturesque here. Also the beautiful ocean and the view is great. You can see the Isle of Shoals, too. Gorgeous at Christmas with the lights.

Interesting lighthouse easy drive

Interesting small park with lighthouse just off shore. The lighthouse island is not accessible by the public.

Get your camera ready or scuba or go fishing off the rocks

By Harmonicaharold |

This iconic lighthouse is a must if you are in the area. There's plenty of free parking at Sohier Park. It made our day despite crawling up the coast in a long convoy past a huge trailer park.

Beautiful light hose with great views.

By Climber120027 |

The lighthouse was beautiful with breath taking views. Will visit again. Plus its right on the ocean and right next to foxes lobster shack.

Beautiful!

By Stacey S |

This setting is so picturesque! We spent an hour taking photos from across the way at all angles. I don't believe you can actually visit this lighthouse but you can get some incredible photographs and explore the rocks across.

Very scenic

By Tonto7 |

Very pretty lighthouse on a rocky knoll just off the road.
Very crowded, but if you keep circling the parking lot you should be able to find a spot. The best lighting is in the late afternoon when the sun lights up the southwest side of the building. The is a small gift shop that has a lot of interesting items.

Lighthouse on Rugged Maine Coast

By Howard S |

A historic lighthouse on the rocky Maine coast. If you are in the area, it is worth a trip. The lighthouse is on an island, just off shore, so you cannot get there.

Beautiful Light!

By Hannah C |

The Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse is a beautiful sight. The history of this site is so interesting. The Town of York does a great job maintaining this light. I think that donations can be made through the Town of York.

Wonderful view if you can get through the gridlocked traffic.

By Hopjim |

Views are wonderful but the level of interest has made in near impossible to park nearby. Went there on a Monday morning and we waited 15 minutes on the road and the line didn't move. Not sure when the quite time is.

Beautiful but very crowded parking

By pisc0011 |

The lighthouse and view is beautiful. The gift shop is a average with overpriced souvenirs. It took us awhile to find a parking spot. It was also a challenge to walk around due to it being so crowded and having to walk across the parking lot to see the other views. They had bathroom and they were decent.
