I didn't realize how big this park is! We walked from the parking lot to the beach and then back (4 miles) and then halfway past the stables towards the mansion. 6 1/2 miles total before we conked out. It was a beautiful summer day and the walk was worth it. There's tons more trails and of course the mansion. In hindsight we should have gotten a map from the front gate. If you go during the summer, bring water, bring bug spray (DEET or similar - signs warning of ticks and Lyme disease are around) and bring your walking shoes. $8 parking fee until 4:30pm. Park usually closes at sunset.

There is nothing that you could possibly be looking for in a state park that you can't find here. We walked the trails on our first visit and knew we had to bring our bikes on future visits. Scattered people fishing. Never seen anything crowded - just people looking to become one with nature. Great for a solo vists to have some peace and quiet but also good for families to come and enjoy the great outdoors in a serene setting

Really enjoyed the walk on a nice Saturday.
Looks very attractive for bikers with many roads to travel at.
But we just walked with 2 11 years girls and my little one (4) used her bikes.

My daughter and I had lunch in Huntington Village and wanted to walk off our meal. We saw a sign for the park so we went. Got there at 4:30 PM so we didn't have to pay the $8 parking fee. What a lovely walk on a paved walkway. Lots of people jogging and biking. We walked under a lot of shade trees and saw rabbits and chipmunks. After walking for a while we came upon the mansion and the garage. It was an old mansion I believe from 1925. It was nice to look at, but you couldn't go in, but you could imagine it in its day how beautiful it must have been overlooking the water. The entire walk took us about 1 1/2 hours. We would like to return this time with our bikes and possibly a picinic.

I have been going to Caumsett since I was five years old and it never gets old. The trails all vary, whether you're on foot, bike, or horse, paved or unpaved, sandy or woodsy. The whole place is beautiful and it's the perfect spot for a picnic. I love taking walks there during all four seasons. Looking forward to this spring's visit soon!

When you need a "mountaintop experience," this is about as close as you're going to get to it on Long Island. This is my go-to place when I'm upset or need to think. You get both the forest and the beach in one trip. It's a lovely drive to get there from town, along the shoreline. If you want to get to the beach, be prepared to take a hike (it about five miles both ways and you can't drive there). There is a paved three-mile loop in the meadow to walk on which is nice, but it's better to explore the trails. The old Marshall Fields house is there, with its spectacular view of a rolling lawn, a fresh water lake and Long Island Sound beyond. If you go at low tide and it's a calm day, you can walk on the boulders way out into the Sound. Some days the sky and sea blend together seamslessly. It's the kind of place where God can talk to you if you listen. The perfect place for a Fall foliage walk. A must!

awesome views, great bike and walking trails, horses, bathrooms and plenty of places to sit and relax!

This is a lovely place with some very interesting farm buildings. The summer sees lots of insects, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. There's plenty of parking space and plenty of places to walk. In summer there are ticks in the grass, so watch out :)

I would recommend every Long Islander and visitor to come spend the day at Caumsett. The drive there is beautiful once you get off the parkway and the back roads take you past some of the most attractive estates that the island has to offer. Driving past the water near the park almost makes it seem like you are in a private getaway rather than NY. During the on season there is a fee to park however that can be avoided depending how early or late you arrive. The trails start right off the parking lot and it could not be a more serene picture. Barns, a museum, horse ranch and trees all lining a path that stretches down to a lovely beach. Perfect for families, bicyclists, runners, etc.. The beauty of the park is a great distraction and I would go there every day if I could.

We love Caumsett! Whenever we just need to get out of the house for a bit we go over and walk the paths. Very scenic, but with several steep hills--just so you know!

If you are looking for a place to take a long walk through the woods and may or may not to end up on the shore, check out Caumsett. When I first started coming, there was no entrance fee but there is now. Get there before it opens to avoid the fee--a lot of people do. Also a great place to ride bikes.

This is a beautiful park which is perfect for a hike, bike ride or picnic. Often there are local events and fairs.

Try the twice around, total 6 mile walk. Or once around to get in 3 miles. Every season brings out a different beauty there. Only problem - the very fast bike riders, so stay in your path as you walk - that is important.

Large park to walk and play in all seasons. A few small gardens and stables for boarders. A good place to take long walks and it is near the water.

Caumsett is a fantastic place to take a walk, hang out on the beach, or have a picnic. A good bit of space where tree-covered hills with hiking paths lead straight into sandy beaches. It's big enough that you can take a hike with some privacy or have an active beach volleyball game with some friends. It's got a great stretch of clear river too, which is rare for LI.

Great biking. My little one just started riding a 2 wheel bike this summer and has been the perfect place for him. So much fun!

This is a beautiful state park north of Huntington. If is a nice bike ride as well as good for a walk. Great views of Long Island sound. Bring a picnic lunch.

My husband and I hiked the 2 miles from the parking lot to the Long Island Sound. The gravel trail is nicely lined with mature trees. Giving it a cooler shaded walk/hike. The bird watching adds charm to a pleasant walk through the woods. We enjoyed the ocean view and shore walk after exiting the woods at the end of the trail. A few folks had brought lunch to picnic on the sand. Next time we'll bring lunch and ride our bicycles around the entire park.

A great place to walk or ride bikes. If you go after 430 you do not have to pay parking. Safer to ride a bike here than on the road. Beautiful drive to get there.

I try to get to Caumsett a few times a year as it is a wonderful way to get some exercise in. No pets allowed.

I find the best time is during the week because the weekends tend to be a lot more crowded with cyclists, families and cars. There are horse stables and trails, that creates traffic too when the horse owners come on the weekends to take their horses out on the trails.

BE CAREFUL OF TICKS! Signs are posted all over the park. Wear light colored clothing, use bug spray and don't go poking around in the high grass and heavily wooded areas. My friends & I were careful to stay on the trails and take all the precautions but somehow, a tick was found on my friend's neck. Luckily, it wasn't imbedded and was removed easily - she was lucky.

Pack a picnic lunch. You can walk down to the beach (about 2 miles from the entrance) and you can even fish from the shore (no swimming though!).

There is a lovely, peaceful garden close to the entrance - very tranquil (again, I go on a weekday to avoid cars, bicyclists and lots of children). I will go so far as to take a day off from work to achieve this, it is well worth it.

$8 admission/parking fee unless you're a member.

Pretty grounds, amazing views. A nice day walk or bike ride, can easily do a few laps around. Bathrooms and water fountains conveniently located.

We go to Caumsett Park often. It is huge, tree lined, and has a wonderful path for bike riding and walking. There are horses there and paths for riding. There is ample parking and restrooms along the way. There are no concessions on the premises.
If you want to unwind, get some exercise and be surrounded by nature, this is the place.

Went on a lovely Sunday afternoon - lots of people riding bikes. View from the main house to the bay is beautiful. Osprey had built a nest in the chimney and was feeding the chick. Shame that the house is not open - does not look like there is anything left furniture wise - at least when you look through the window. Wish we had more time to explore the grounds but it was lovely.

My boyfriend and I went today as it was absolutely beautiful out for the first time in weeks! There are so many trails to take that there just wasn't enough time to see it all. We were there for about an hour and half. Everything was still covered in snow for the most part which added to the beauty of it all. The Manor sits upon a hill over looking the water. There's also a bird conservation area! We will be returning in the spring time as when we returned to our car our feet were frozen and drenched from walking through snow and slush. If you have the time to see a beautiful open area of Long Island, stop here. It's a piece of history.

This is a wonderful park to walk the trails, walk the beach and take in the beauty of nature. Marshall Field certainly lived like a Lord of his Manor.

This large property on the LI north shore provides a variety of views while biking or walking, though it is much easier to take in on a bicycle unless you have several hours. Easy paved and natural paths in the park as well as original building from the estate, also available for viewing during specified hours. Really enjoyed seeing all the horses at the stable on the property, as well.

Having boarded my horses there prior to the newest management, I was treated to seeing Caumsett throughout all of the seasons! It is beautiful every time of year, including when it rains and you see the rain just sweep across the fields. Wonderful historic buildings. Amazing trails! All kinds of fabulous wildlife! Water views!! Must see!!

This out of the way gem is a great place to go for short walk, a long walk, biking on paved roads or trails. It's great all year long and especially if you want to see great nature. I trained for a 60 mile walk using these trails. The buildings are beautiful. Hard to believe people really lived like this.

I'm showing my age, but I remember coming here with my family way before it became a state park and I am glad I finally returned. It was mysterious and enchanting then, and it is still enchanting and even more enjoyable now! Took a 6-mile walk around the property under autumnal trees of every color of the rainbow, explored the beach area on Long Island Sound with its views of distant Connecticut, wandered around the dairy and equestrian buildings and paddocks, peeked into the 88-year old Marshall Field mansion (just as I did many years ago with the curious eyes of a 10 year old), and ran, then hiked back up the looong, steep hill leading to the pond abutting the Sound. Can you just imagine, owning ALL of this beautiful, well-maintained land, just as the Field family once did and all the places a kid (as well as MY inner child) could have and still CAN explore. There's so much to see and appreciate here and it's accessible year-round, for all ages! Bring your sneakers, bicycles, cross country skis, horses, and imagination!

The best part of going to Caumsett State Park, is hiking to the Sound. It is a fair distance to hike, several miles, and I believe there are steps, so strollers could be an issue. The view there is one of the best on Long Island. This is also a great setting for a picnic. If you go, bring a backpack and water along with your food. If it is at all warm out, you will really need the water. Also, don't miss the formal gardens. When things are in bloom, it is a gorgeous place to visit.

Love walking the paths and trails here. Very scenic. Recommend a visit to Lloyd's Neck Harbor to experience this state park.

Used to keep my horses here. Just a beautiful place, former estate on hilltop overlooking water. Great place for riding horses, bikes or walking. Beautiful all four seasons. Amazing wildlife to see. Trails going all the way down to the beach. Even the drive there, going over causeway to Lloyd Neck is amazing. Don't miss this special place!!!

Those of us who live full time or part time in Huntington are loath to tell many people about the natural perfection that hides away on the north shore of Long Island, but it is simply to good to not share. The drive through Huntington to Lloyd harbor is beautifully breathtaking. As you drive over the last strand of road with the bluest ocean sound on one side and the reed marsh on the other, you think it can't get any better. It does. Up a nondescript, don't blink or you'll miss it road is a paradise of woods to get lost in, a beach that feels private, aging gold coast summer homes and paddocks with the almost perceptible remnants of manicured gardens. The immense property has trails for bikes, hikes and horses and a mini wildlife sanctuary. The stately homes are now used for conservation efforts, outdoor education programs and grounds keeper quarters, all this lends itself to mini community feel. The seasons are well reflected here. The spring brings the audacious young green shoots and leaves that seems almost neon, while the late summer trees grow heavy with dark, moist foliage and humidity. Fall visits are crisp, golden trees exploding in the view over the sound with all of Connecticut seemingly on fire with fall color. The oranges and red against the blue sky and water is a perfect artists palette... It is my favorite place on Long Island.

I really don't see what the other reviewers do about this place.Nice walk but…. There was another walk that goes to the ocean, maybe that was nicer. Certainly not worth going to, unless you are in the area anyway.

Been coming to this park for years. You can walk the paved circle for a 3 mile walk or go down one of the nature paths. This park is great for bird watchers.Bring your camera, you will not be disappointed, there are deer and foxes on the property if you are lucky enough to see them.If this is your first time I would take a map if venturing off to the nature trails. There are 2 restrooms, one in the beginning of your walk by the maintenance trucks and 1 by the main house that is 1.5miles into your walk on the paved path. They have nature walk with a pro guide that can show you things you would normally just walk by.You have to check the dates and times for those walks.I will be back again.

While traveling on West Neck Rd.to Caumsett State Park
the waterview is breathtaking. You feel like your in up State NY.
The rolling hills, the vast open spaces with few homes visiable. When you enter the park, the feeling of tranquility continues.
They have approximately 3 miles of walking paved roads. As you pass the riding stables, you may leave the walkimng trail and venture for a mile down a dirt path to Long Island Sound. There are a privileged few that win a lottery so they can park and fish there. Please keep in mind there are preservationist that house injured birds until they can be returned to the wild.
I do hope you enjoy the park as much as I do!
