The Cave Without a Name is a small cave but didn't disappoint. Beautiful formations and just the thrill of being underground in a cave was all it took for our grandsons to be impressed. Our guide was informative telling us the history of the cave and giving us lessons on the formations. WARNING...there are steep stairs which were okay going down but this old out of shape granny, had to take several stops to rest and catch her breath!

This is one of the most amazing caves I have seen. We went for the tour which lasted one hour and the went back for a concert at 7:00 pm. Incredible. The tour is $20. AAA and military pay $18. The concert was $25 with no discounts. The formations on this cave are amazing. Our guide was young and incredibly good. The concert lasted 1-1/2 hours and was about the Spring Equinox. The acoustics was great and the music superb. Between our tour and the concert we had a picnic on the grounds. They have picnic tables and you can bring wine and food. Please be aware that there are 126 steps to go down and to come up! No handicap ramps.

The cave itself is impressive and wonderful. Our guide and the people in the shop answered lots of questions about the caves, geology, fossils, and so on.

Upon arriving, I won’t lie, I was a little taken aback at the small gift shop and lack of activities. We arrived at the same time as a group of Scouts, and even though we were forced to wait 30 extra minutes, our group of 14 (including 6 kids age 6 and under) really enjoyed the trails.
The cave was beyond what we expected or could have imagined....even those who’d been years before were impressed. But our tour was wonderful, mostly, because of our guide, Riley. He was kind, funny, knowledgeable, and answered all of our childish questions. He let us set the pace for small feet and never rushed us.
The kids were still talking about him at dinner time. Thanks!!!

Had a wonderful tour of Cave Without a Name near Boerne with family. 8 adults, 6 kiddos ages 6-almost 3. Our guide Riley was TERRIFIC. He took time to answer all our questions and was mindful of the pace (and things of interest) for young children.

We had visited the cave previously (more than 20 years ago). The facilities (and stairs) have been upgraded. It is an interesting stop.

By Sissy581 |

HItting the cave on a slower time and day we had our own private tour with Mike. He told us lots of added details. Where to take the best photos and even took some of us and our friends. Then since it was my birthday trip he got all to sing Happy Birthday to me in the area where the concerts are. It was a fun time and we really enjoyed it again. Would come back with more friends who havent see it.

This is a nice cave to visit. It is not as spectacular as some of the larger caves that I have visited, but was worth the visit. We were in a small tour group, led by Steve and he was very patient with our curious grandchildren. Our 10 year old granddaughter rates the cave 10 out of 10. She really enjoyed the tour. There are a number of steps down to the cavern ( I believe 168) and so there are also that many back up at the end of the tour! The cave is a little off the beaten track, but the GPS got us there with no problems.

Visited Wimberely and wasn’t aware that the caves were located an hour from my hotel. That’s fine my fault but then notices I was double charged and can’t reach anyone to rectify the charges. I’ve been calling for days and can’t reach anyone at all. How can I get my money back ?

My family and I were looking for a nice caved to visit while in the San Antonio area. Now if you would find the staff to be wonderful, the cave is humongous and forth every penny of the price. Skip the Tourists traps and make the drive this Cave.

This is a must see cave in Boerne, TX. Great knowledgeable tour guides. The cave has an interesting history. You will descend 8 stories down and it’s truly beautiful! They also have concerts down in the cave sometimes. It is off the beaten path, but very worth it!

By Kathy K |

We were utterly amazed by the cave. We live here in Boerne, and really never gave it much thought to go see it. Family from out of town wanted to go after they researched things to do in Boerne. The descend down was a little steep but once you are down inside you will be amazed. It is so beautiful and the guide was very informative on the history and the geological formations. We all had a great time, ages from 7-60 years old. Be sure to wear the proper shoes because the steps are steep, the path can be slippery from the moisture in the cave and ascending back up certainly is a workout.

The Texas heat can be brutal and that's when we try and visit places underground. I had never been to Cave Without a Name and had heard so much about it. This is a Family owned property and they have a very nice store with fossils and gemstones, some quite large that are very unique. There is a gate to the "underground" and they have built very safe steps to go down quite a few stories.

A unique feature of this Cave is the chamber music they play inside were they have a small stage. They have had to stop it due to Covid but plan to resume as soon as possible.

The Cave is beautiful and a very interesting tour. They have plenty of room outside for a picnic and they have a kids mining stations so they can look for gems.

Very quaint shop and an amazing cave. We had a great tour guide, Mike. Cave was not cold so no jackets needed. Reasonably priced. After the cave we went into town for lunch. Nice ride kids (13, 11, & 8) all enjoyed it.

By Melissa L |

My family and I really enjoyed ourselves on this tour. While I agree that $18 per person is a bit much, we lucked into a private tour, so it seemed worth it. Lisa was our guide. She was really personable as well as knowledgeable.
We did a little research beforehand so we knew to expect a lot of stairs, but it certainly was not as bad as we anticipated.
The gift shop is quaint. There is an option for gem mining, which we did not choose to do.

We are doing all 5 caverns on the cavern trail in Tx. This was our first stop and I wasn’t sure when we arrived if it was worth the drive but we were pleasantly surprised. Guide Andy is absolutely the best, she is very personable and animated. She explained the history of the cavern and all the rooms as we went through. The different areas were absolutely gorgeous. We loved the tour. The climb down is fairly easy but some of the less fit people had trouble on the way out. If you stay to the back of the pack and take your time it could be done by the less fit. Definitely grab a medium bag of soil and pan for gems! $12 bag is well worth it. We also did the geode cutting but we felt the gem panning was a better deal and brought better looking gems and a small geode for the kids.
Worth the visit!

Bit of a walk down the stairs but not bad. Beautiful Cave, tho smaller than many we've been through. Highly recommend it

The place is pretty cool, and worth the price to go. WE arrived at 11 am, there was only one family of 5 there and the place was empty.. I went in and asked the guy asked about the tours. He then asked if we had a reservation, and i told him no, seeing as it was a cold day in january on a thurday i knew i wouldnt need one. He then starts saying if there was a big group, or a bus full of people, we would need a reservation, or have to wait in a line or something to that effect. I looked around and still cant understand why he even brought it up, but it was a rather dumb remark out of the guy, seeing as there was nobody there. So, i paid and took the tour, and it was enjoyable.

Cool hidden treasure. Especially enjoyable to get out of Texas summer heat! Taken lots of family there and all have enjoyed it
Have also been very pleased to attend a Christmas Bells performance in the cave. Awesome!!

By Neil P |

One of the longest (over 3 miles) and largest, and oldest (opened 1937). I had never heard of it. We say a review on TA and we're in the area. Great decision. This is much smaller than the nearby tourist trap in New Braunfelds but well worth the drive out if you are in the area. It's about 40 minutes from UTSA. Guide was very informative and dedicated. It is about $20 for the one hour tour so take a picnic and make the day of it.

By Ples R |

A great little cave to visit. Its 8 flights of stairs down and of course back up but once you get down its wide open caverns. When i was there a group of musicians were getting ready to play a concert that night so we got to listen to them play violins during the tour . the cave has great acoustics. The young lady i had as a tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. It is not a very long tour but it does have some beautiful formations and to me was worth the stop.

We’re driving through Texas and stayed overnight north of San Antonio.
We decided to have some fun in the neighborhood and found this gem (from attraction map given to us st campground).
We took the tour - about 1 hour- and it was so worth it! Cave is quite large and you go through several rooms. Easy in and easy out. Beautiful formations!!!! The best was that there were only four other people with us, plus guide, so we took tons of pix and Caroline, our guide, could store us a lot and answer tons of questions. She is super knowledgeable - a biology college student- she also takes black light flashlight to show us even more interesting colors in the rooms! We definitely recommend the tour and Caroline! It’s a great place to visit for a couple of hours, for all ages.

While traveling from San Antonio to Austin, we stopped at this attraction. So glad we did. Got the 'senior' discount. The cave was outstanding and the guide was great. One of the best caves I have been in, and they did such a great job lighting the cave. If in the area... I would highly recommend you visit.

By singafer |

Better than we expected. So many exceptional formations. Stairs may be challenging for some. Is it the most beautiful cave in Texas as some say? Come see for yourself!

By Valerie C |

It was a beautiful cave and waaaay biggest than I expected. According to the guide, there is 7 miles more that is not included on the tour because it is covered in varying depths of water... But we totally wanted to explore! The 8 flights of stairs down was a breeze but coming out was definitely a workout

By Btaggart |

Super fun. We had lots of little kids with us and our tour guide did a great job keeping them engaged. The cave was beautiful and has a really cool discovery story. We also sifted dirt and discovered gems. The gems were actually amazing and huge!!

By Sam A |

We did the one-hour tour with just the 2 of us and a family of four with little kids. The tour guide did a great job of making the trip work on all levels, and the cave itself was just astoundingly beautiful. Seems like they've found the right balance of providing good paths and lighting while keeping the structures intact and well protected. We even saw some bats and salamanders. Great way to spend an hour or two.

By Sharon J |

Cole gave us a great tour of The Cave without a name. He kept it very interesting by telling little small jokes and stories along the way. Great job Cole.

By Piperlovestravel |

My nephew and I took a tour on a hot summer day, so it was wonderful too cool off under the earth. Guide was knowledgeable, tour was about an hour, which was a bit too long - steep journey out! Fun little gift shop.

By LoveOahu09 |

Wonderful cave at the end of a long windy road. So beautiful inside, and cool. A great Boerne visit.

By Jeremy G |

Great little tour off the Hill Country backroads outside of Boerne. Beware though if you have over-sensitive children. They like to turn the lights off at one point (after warning everyone) just to show how dark it is (and it is pitch black, no light whatsoever). My daughter was terrified. They also have a large chamber cavern with really great sound where they have an occasional underground concert.

By Tmr R |

Had a great tour of the caves with a knowledgeable guide. Took lots of pictures. The grounds are lovely as well. Camped for several days. One drawback however. You can’t leave the grounds before 10 am nor come back to them after 5 pm as the main gate is locked when the center is closed. Make your plans accordingly.

When we (my family and I) set out to visit Cave Without a Name, I thought, ok, well a cave. The place was really amazing. They have it lighted well enough to see but not overpowering. Very fascinating and our guide was very knowledgeable and nice. A lot of different "rooms" in the cave. We highly recommend it!

By Matt H |

We really enjoyed this tour. The guide was very informative and knew the history of the cave as well as the technical geologic aspects of it

By Dean3839 |

The whole experience was great. It was my first experience in a cave. I did not know what to expect and my expectations where exceeded. The cave is about 80 feet deep and large enough for groups of 25. You must have a guide and it is worth it for the history and geology lesson. The guide mentioned they have concerts in the cave. Now that would be cool! I believe you can call head for the concert schedule.

By TexasBNBLover |

Overall enjoyed... The drive back to the property was scenic.Personnel well trained & friendly=) The cave was fun to explore! Oxygen was thin a bit difficult climbing stairs on departure out!

By G0Pirates |

Had a great visit here. The cave is very interesting and easy to get around.
The staff and guide were friendly and accommodating.

This is a GREAT venue. The underworld is so wonderful and the guides are eager to make the most of it for the visitors.

The Cave Without A Name is a little known "must-see" attraction in the Hill Country. Not easy to find, it's well worth the drive out of Boerne, TX. We had about 10 folks on our tour and I found the cave beautiful and the tour very interesting. The cave is not too big to enjoy and our 1-hour tour went by quickly. The only tough part is the walk back up the 128 [?] steps to the surface. The owners/tour guides are great and the rock shop in the office building is full of great items. Recommended.

By Baybug2 |

This was our last adventure for our Texas trip——and what a way to end the 2020 or start 2021! Our guide A was quite informative- it made the tour even better! She was quick witted and straightforward. The caves were well lit and the largest I have ever been in. Now the stairs down and up are no joke, but it is worth a stop!!!!!

By Linda A |

My husband and I toured the cave, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We got there right when it opened and had a private tour with one of the guides since no one else was there. Because of this, we got to chat and take our time. Our guide, Elaine, was wonderful! The shop there is worth a look, with lots of things to interest young and old. The cave itself is spectacular and the history around it and its discovery are things I'll never forget. My advice to anyone visiting: get there when it opens! Take your time! May not be great for really small children, but perhaps pre-K ages and up would enjoy.
We are going back with our kids as soon as we can.

By Diane1437 |

Very highly recommended! A wonderful concert in the Throne Room of the Cave. The acoustics are fantastic! The performers were superb. Word to the wise--wear safe shoes, bring a jacket and something to wipe off your seat. Chairs are wet. Also the climb out of the cave is a real WORKOUT!

By Robert Gowens |

We took our daughter here for her birthday and it was great. It's not as big as other caves we've been to, but we got a much closer view of the formations. You can't go wrong coming to see this place.

By Suzan |

Nestled in the folds of the Texas Hill country, Cave Without a Name surpassed my expectations! The cave itself is beyond beautiful and the staff’s friendly welcome was then bested by the depth of their knowledge. Try this tour, your life will be better for it.

By BadgerTripper |

Cave without a name is a good tour for you if you like caves. If you are curious about caving but worried about claustrophobia then this is a great place to check it out - since after you get down in the cave the spaces are huge.

The cave is reached by going down 8 stories of stairs - you will have to climb back up this too. Once down you land in a large chamber carved in the distant past by an underground river. The large chamber has lots of unique features like huge stalagmites and lots of ribbon features. There are pools. There is evidence of a large earthquake in the past and a small spring. Underground acoustics are fantastic and our group was luckily serenaded by a member of the group.

The tour last bout an hour but there is not a whole of walking once you get down to the bottom. There are about 5 stops on the tour and you walk less than a 1/4 mile after you get to the bottom.

There is a small gift shop. Be prepared to wait for up to 30 minutes or more for your tour to start. Not lots to do after the 3 minutes of browsing the gift shop.

Been through several caves in Texas, The tour consists of going down 8 flights of stairs, not too bad going down, but leaving puts a strain on an old body, overall a nice place to visit.

By Bill W |

Really enjoyed this cave tour lead by a knowledgeable guide. Our group had only 8 members so it made for a more intimate experience with the opportunity to ask a lot of questions.
Highly recommended.

This was a very nice adventure, a must!!! Thought it might be your typical tourist trap. Far from it, excellent staff and tour.

By joyous-traveler2015 |

We toured this cave the day after Christmas and loved it. We went with our daughter & son-in-law's young family (children ages 7, 5, 3 1/2 and 2) and our older grandchildren asked all kinds of questions and thought it was interesting and fun! Our tour guide, Joseph, was great and we learned so much from him. We were surprised at how big the cave was inside. After the tour, we purchased some bags of sand with gems from the gift shop and let the children find the gems as the sifted their sand out with running water in the outside mining trough.

By mexicanbadger |

Tour was really interesting, very knowledgeable guide. We had a blast exploring, looking at formations and it was cool to see how it would look with no lights on. It is worth a visit!

By Peggy L |

This hidden gem of the hill country will take your breath away, and I don't just mean the 100 steps you climb down to get to this jewel underground. Steeped in history, dripping (literally) with still growing formations, huge rooms, good lighting, more to see than possible on one trip down. The queen's throne, the fried egg, Mickey mouse on the ceiling, the witches den, the cascading dams... So much for the imagination to find.

My grandparents lived a mile down the road and this place is firmly locked in my memory and heart. I also had the pleasure of being a part time tour guide there a few years back, an honor to represent such a beautiful part of God's green earth for the time I was there.

On the surface, the gift shop is full of very reasonably priced rocks and fossils that could compete with any rock shop. Kids can mine for gems in the sluice or have a geode cut, even have a birthday party there. My daughter did several years back and it's still her favorite party ever.

They have a picnic area, a pavilion great for events of all kinds , primitive tent camping grounds, clean restrooms, miles of nice walking trails, a labyrinth, wildlife birds and deer and turkey and more. Pack a picnic and make a family day of it or plan your next event there. You won't be disappointed.

Tour was great, and lasted about one hour. Steve was our guide, and was very knowledgeable about the cave and its history. Also gave us recommendations on places to see and eat in the area. Definitely worth the price of admission!

While on the way to our resort in Boerne after visiting San Antonio for a couple days I was debating whether to stop at the Natural Bridge Caverns, Cascade Cavern or this one. I decided for convenience this was the best but also read the reviews. We have 2 girls, 8 and 9 and I have been wanting to take them to a cavern but was a little nervous they would get scared. They LOVED it and so did we! Our tour guide Nina was extremely passionate and made it interesting for all of us. The way she conducted the tour, just when you thought it was the peak of beauty and intrigue, we would move further and a new area would light up. The best surprise was last. I won't spoil it. Go see for yourself! Cheaper prices, only 2 other families and a very personal tour allowing us to take our time and enjoy the beauty without the crowds.

By G sutorik |

The cave is fantastic, though our tour guide was just kinda so-so. Several times when questions were asked he would reply “I don’t know”. More info about the cave would
Have made it more interesting

My group of 3 adults and 2 toddlers toured with guide Dave. He was very thorough about the history of the caves, how the formations are formed, and answered all of our questions. The cave rooms are amazing and are unveiled one after the next. Definitely worth checking these caves out. They have a nice shop set up to buy some souvenirs, a drink or small snack if needed. Wear appropriate shoes as it can be slippery and muddy in the caves.

We have been to various Caverns in Texas and this one was outstanding. Special compliments to the guide who kindly took us down before a large school group arrived. Recommended

By Tracie D |

Excellent day trip. My husband and I enjoyed the entire experience. Our guide, Andi gave a great tour, answered all of our questions and was terrific with children. The cave is phenomenal and has a lot of interesting formations. This is a must do if you are anywhere nearby!

You never know how 7-9 y o kids will like a cave experience. When our grands were here during spring break we considered cave tours and opted for Cave without a name. It is only 5 or so miles away. Made sense. Good tour. Family friendly. Bought a geode, which they saw open. Good stuff.

By Matthew Reynolds |

went to my first ever cave for my birthday it was a blast! the guide was very funny and even did some cool UV flashlight show. Never would have imagined the cool experience. so glad we did this.

This cave has it's own mystic and is very beautiful. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. I would love to come back many times and I will find always something new miracle. I stayed a night one the camp ground too and hiked the trails.

We have been in caverns before and love them. We found this one while in the hill country area for a week long visit. It is a good drive out of Boerne but we didn't mind. We just combined the visit with a winery in Sisterdale and made a big loop and enjoyed the scenery. We liked that the tour was only us and another couple. The guide was knowledgeable and allowed us to take all the time we wanted to look and take pictures. The place is beautiful and had some formations that were unique and we hadn't seen before in other caverns. It is a small operation and not very fancy but we enjoyed it. The price is kinda steep to me at $20 pp for adults. There are lots of stairs and coming back up is steep and made us a little winded, so keep that in mind with small children or elderly participants.

We just recently visited for the Summer Solstice event and we can't wait to go again! Went to Boerne early and visited the town main street shops then headed to the cave. There's a wonderful area outside to relax or have a picnic before the show starts. Walking down the cave isn't too bad but at some points the stairs are steep and the path narrow. The music was wonderful and the setting magnificent, the group even performed a few songs in the dark. It can get a little chilly so take a light jacket. The walk back up is a bit tough with many people stopping to take breaks. Really looking forwarded to visiting again.

great cave great service.they know there stuff.very helpful super cave.they take there time no fast tour ask them anything a out the ca e they know just see

By Marquez2020 |

A quiet little cave with awesome features. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. It is 8 flights of stairs down and back up but well worth it. A native Texas and having toured many caves, I didn't know about this one! Well worth a drive and a visit.

By MadisonBoy |

Went for a concert in the cave, it was very cool! Band played New Age music. Drums, didgeridoos etc. they played about 20 min in total darkness

By Heiddi1029 |

Not the biggest cave in Texas, but one of the most beautiful caves in Texas. The staff was very knowledgeable about the cave and how it was discovered. They had a nice little picnic area and hiking trails. The trails were not cleared well but we had fun making our own path.

By ncftx |

Just a few miles off I-10 West and less than half an hour from San Antonio is this National Natural Wonder. The winding road just past the City of Boerne is scenic in itself, and the cave entrance is tucked away from the main road. Lots of picnic spots dot the grounds and the small gift shop/admission counter sells ice cream and soft drinks.
The tour itself lasts an hour. Wear good walking shoes - and perhaps ones you don't value because they can get muddy. Ditz the heels! The narrated tour is fascinating and as you go deeper and deeper, it is more and more fascinating. The geological formations are enchanting and the acoustics are amazing. Definitely a spot for photo taking - at every turn!
The one warning is that there is a steep 8-flight climb to get out - so hold onto the rails and take your time.
You will leave with respect for how this cave has been protected and maintained and feel this was a trip you're glad you made.

By tommyburch |

We had kiddos with us and they really enjoyed it. It is a guided tour and guide explains everything and takes questions. It was well worth the trip,I will warn you going down was easy but coming back up will test your endurance it is 7 stories,All in all we had a wonderful time

By yuriyNY |

This is one of the best caves we have visited so far. There is a river there, and the formations are very impressive. Mike, the guide, was very nice and knowledgeable

By BmoreBound |

We all absolutely loved Cave Without a Name! Our tour guide, Georgia, was excellent. She knew all the details and was as polite and informative as she could be. She shared all kinds of information about the geological formations, as well as the history of the cave and scientific experiments that U.T. has underway in there. The lights in the cave make it all look breathtaking. This is a beautiful cave and really very awing in places. I especially liked the natural nativity and the Grinch! It was something to see. Our group consisted of children to seniors ranging from 8 to 72 and two people who have recovered from heart surgery and cancer, and we were all able to get down and up. My parents had to stop briefly on the way back up, but Georgia was very considerate about it, and it was definitely doable for them. Afterward, my kids got rock sawed in half, which fascinated them. This couldn't have been a more perfect experience!

By Joan T |

We got there early on a Sunday and were the second group in. The guide was great! told lots of interesting stories and good info about the cave and its history. Definitely worth the ride out of Boerne to visit.

By CaverMoore |

We enjoyed my favorite Houston string quartet in the remarkable acoustics of Cave Without a Name for the second time. The experience was improved by the new stage constructed in the large cave room that serves as the concert hall. The large audience enjoyed the mixture of classics and lighter contemporary tunes of Taylor Swift, Brittany Spears, and others, the latter scored for string quartet. The classical works were, as usual for Axiom introduced in brief remarks by one of the members of the Quartet. These spoken words help both to enjoy the music and to get to know the musicians.

This cave does not leave you disappointed. I was worried about paying $20 for the tour, but it is beautiful and price worthy!!!

By NW748 |

What a great cave! I’ve done 2 of the other caves in the area and so decided to try this one and we are so glad we did! It’s a little off the beaten path but definitely worth it. Upon arriving I was a little leery, because the visitor center and outside area aren’t the most maintained that we’ve seen, but we decided to stick it out! Our tour guide was good- informative, with some humor but not over the top. It’s an 8 story hike down to the cave, but everything was very well lit. The cave was not as long length wise as some of the others, but the size of the rooms and the amazing formations inside of them are totally impressive. They also do concerts at least once a month in the cave which would be special to attend. Definitely worth a stop while in the Boerne / hill country area.

By CKlass90 |

We took a tour with another couple and it so happened we had both been to Cascade caverns that morning and as amazing as that was the Cave Without a Name (named such because it is too beautiful to name) was better. It just went on and on more fascinating things to see with every set of lights around every corner. So many rooms and each so stunning it's hard to describe with words. Nice and warm (we went in December) and probably nice and cool in summer. Quite the climb up the 120 stairs on the way out but so worth it.

By Holly W |

This is a beautiful cave. The tour takes about an hour. Plenty of parking and they have a wonderful gift shop full of rocks, etc.
Our guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the area and the cave. It was fun hearing about this cave and others he had visited in the past.

Sometimes, it's just better to visit the smaller place with less of a tourist attraction crowd. This place has a great backstory as to how it was discovered. Beautiful natural cavern to enjoy on a hot Texas day. Highly recommend. GPS and signs will get you there!!!!!!

By Patrick R |

Great place to visit! If you’re into fascinating views and caves or rocks and formations you’ll love it here. The tour is slow paced, plenty of time for questions, pictures and group pictures. The stairs into the cave are pretty good, maybe a few spots that are not the greatest for a grandma recovering from a hip replacement, but not difficult either. Good souvenir shop with something for everyone. They also have geodes for sale and you can pick them out by size and tell them how you’d like it cut and they will saw it open in a couple minutes. HINT: try to find the lightest geodes, if they are light in weight, the are usually hollow and have better crystal formations inside. Great area also and plenty of views coming from the east.

While in Boerne, we decided to head to a cave to explore...nearby there are two: Cascade Caverns and Cave without a Name. We chose the latter because it was fairly close and a local told us it was less commercial than Cascade. It was a nice and scenic drive from our resort. We used GPS, but were told when we called that Google Maps had the location wrong so we need to look for signs when we got close. We did and found the signs were great. We arrived with no issues at all. When we go there they were taking groups of about 12-18. We were a party of ten so we were most of the group. The guide we were assigned was a local lady who only had been working as a guide for 6 months but had been touring the cave for 20+ years. She was very enthusiastic about caving and very knowledgeable. Her name was "Si"...not sure of the spelling, but I would highly recommend to get on her tour.

The cave is beautiful and has a ton of different formations. The lighting they have inside really brings out the cave's beauty and wonder. The tour go through several of the cave rooms and lasts about an hour with a number of picture taking opportunities.

We all loved this experience! Our group ranged in age from 5 to 50. There quite a few stairs (100) to get in and out of the cave...you can take them at your own pace, but be aware if you aren't used to climbing. Our guide was over 60 and she did great, so I think it is doable for most people. For younger ones, they may be a little apprehensive going down, but my 5 year old was really excited about it and did fine the whole time. He even got to be the helper and hold the flashlight on the way back out.

These caves are not extensive though beautiful. The cost for the caves certainly need to be adjusted in my opinion. Every parent who paid walked away wondering what exactly what they paid for. Once in the caves the tour guides are so concerned about the preservation of the rocks ON THE PATH that they are willing to chide your kids for a misstep. This is not a great place for kids. Other than looking at rocks there is nothing more for them to do. Again it was pretty and had a fun story but we will never return.

This is a neat place. We went on a Thursday. Almost no one there. Small tours of 2 -4 at a time.
Gift shop on property. Plan on about an hour for cave tour. Bring your walking shoes. About 8 floors worth of stairs. Very cool 65 degrees in cave year round.

Our visit to the Cave Without a Name happened by chance as we were driving and exploring through Boerne. We knew there were caves in the area, but we were not expecting the amazing striations in the chambers, nor the magnificence of the stalactites as we moved through our guided tour of the cave. While all caves are interesting to a spelunker; the Cave Without a Name can handle schoolchildren or adults, with great interpretation and lighting along the way

By Sheryl T |

We visited Cave Without a Name for the first time since my parents were friends with the owners in the late 60's to early 70's. Our tour guide, Cammy (sp?) was fun! She had great plays on words that made us laugh, did a super job telling the cave's history, and she even pointed me out in the group saying I had been through the cave dozens of times as a child. The hundred or so stair steps down and up are a workout for sure. It's still the most beautiful cave in Texas.

I was nervous about taking a guided tour alone, but as soon as I walked into the quaint shop leading towards the cave entrance, I was so happy to be there! The two gentlemen in the store were very welcoming, and my tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and educated on both the history of the cave and the many formations found inside. All of my questions were welcomed and answered, and my guide offered some insider tidbits about the cave and the unexplored areas. The beginning of the tour began with a view and commentary of a map of the cave, it was interesting to orient yourself within the cave you are exploring. The tour was timed well and was not too long or too short, my guide even offered to wait while I took pictures; I felt very fortunate to find this beautiful cave on TripAdvisor. I HIGHLY recommend it! Parking was easy and spacious, I recommend you wear tennis shoes... small spots within the cave can be slippery. Reading about the cave ahead of time made my trip more fun! Oh, and the gift/momento shop is wonderfully priced!

A sight for sore eyes. Such unique beauty everywhere you look. Caverns are a must see in the hill country.

Great tour with knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide, Caroline. First time visiting and ticket prices were very reasonable. Would love to return for one of the concerts held in the cave!

By Terri M |

My husband and I showed up and got a personal tour of the caves. Great conversation and beautiful caverns. Our tour guide even saved me froma scorpion near where I was standing! We enjoyed it so much we went back for a beautiful concert in the cavern that night. Unique fun!

While staying in Helotes one weekend, my husband and I decided to spend a morning/afternoon poking around Boerne. I did some checking and found that there was the Cave Without a Name a short drive further, so we thought we'd check it out. I called and spoke to a woman who told us that there aren't specific tour times and that if we show up, someone will give us a tour. Great! I liked that we weren't nailed down to a specific time, as we were just trying to casually enjoy our day wandering around the country.

The drive from Helotes to CWAN was nice and peaceful. When we arrived, it was as if we were at someone's home. Such a neat little spot. It's amazing when you realize what's hidden underneath you!

We arrived right around opening time, and were the only two people there, so we were given what was basically a private tour. It was absolutely amazing! I can't stress enough how magical this place is! Our guide (I can't remember her name, but I want to say it was Elaine...?). She was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and we could tell she truly loved what she was showing us/talking about.

We were amazed at the cave and the many, many formations, and to learn about how the cave was discovered. We were also amazed to see that they have concerts down in one of the big rooms (and will even host weddings! - wish I'd known that when I got married!!). Our guide sang a song so we could hear the acoustics, and it literally gave us goosebumps.

If you have an hour or two to spare, take time to visit this natural miracle. It's not commercialized as many of the larger caverns are, which makes it all the more special.

Our tour guide, Natalie, did an incredible job showing us around the cave and had so many interesting stories to share with our small group! We were uncertain what to expect since my husband has some mobility difficulties but Natalie couldn’t have been more accommodating or patient with us as we moved at a snails pace, especially when ascending the 176 steps back to the surface. This was our 11 year old’s most sought after experience for the summer and wrapped up our spur of the moment, mini vacation perfectly before heading home. So grateful for the kindness offered to us by everyone we met here!

By Maurice J |

Best little discovery in. Long time! I’ve visited many a places as an international flight attendant for over 28 years, and I MUST SAY this was a spectacular day. From the moment we entered the gift shop the hospitality was amazing! Our tour guide Kathryn was amazing, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the cave, just a pleasure to have met as well! You can tell she really loves what she does and that really made all the difference! Kudos to you Kathryn for making our day a very special one!

By Jami R |

So worth going, never seen a cave like that! Beautiful and was fun to learn the history!! The tour guide was amazing!

By James C |

Anna was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Beautiful caves and would highly recommend exploring all the rooms.

By troytabner |

This hidden gem is absolutely incredible. Privately-owned and can host events!! Tour guide nailed it, and the entire experience was other-worldly. Worth every penny. Went with my wife and we took so many pictures and really cannot wait to go back for one of their live music events or just to visit again. Would recommend to anyone with a desire to see the natural occurring wonders of the world.

By Marcia S |

When you get tired of the long lines at Natural Bridge Caverns, come check this one out. It has more character. Smaller tour groups was a definite bonus. Its remoteness adds to its appeal.

By GoldenEagle56 |

The cave is amaing and well worth your time. Do NOT go unless you are reasonably fit. There are a lot of steps and the climb out is more strenuous than going down. The formations are beautiful and well worth the effort. Our guide was Mike and he seemed disorganized and we wasted a lot of time doing nothing. At times he was quite snarky and when asked about caving more than once he repeated a canned response. He was ok but I believe the other guide is the one you want if you have a choice.

By Rsmarco |

Took my 7 year old daughter and my 72 year old mother and we had a blast! I have a background in opera and sang in the amphitheater, there was water, wonderful structures and great tour guide. This is a living cave and there's a lot that can be touched and damaged, so if your kids are irrepressible and don't take directions well, this probably isn't the place for you. They also have a terrific gift shop.

By SS2019 |

Awesome cave. Our guide David made the tour. His knowledge of the cave and local area was great. This is one of our favorite caves in Texas and it didn’t disappoint on this trip.

By Monica E |

What an experience!! I highly recommend visiting and viewing nature at work by yourself! Our tour was great and worth our visit to Boerne. Our guide was amazing Lizzie I think I heard her name was, she had a lot of info to share, took pictures of us and was fun! Be aware that you have to be able to walk up and down 126 stairs, I think most of us were out of breath around stair 100 but we made it!!

By Ed P |

Cave Without a Name has more than just cave tours to offer. There are several easy trails available around the Visitor Center. We took the one called Rim Trail first which is a 1.7 mile loop and then a smaller one called the Sinkhole trail. It took us about 2 hours to do both because had our two dogs with us and took some breaks to give them water. As I mentioned the trails are considered easy, but do have a slight change in elevation. Must be able to climb small rises coming out of the creek and lots of rocks. Good shoes recommended. Ok for kids and dogs. But sure to take lots of water to be save. Enjoy your hike.

By marlo_stevens |

If you have time during your stay I would make sure you check out this hidden Gem. The tour guy was very knowledgeable. It was just pure beauty at its finest!

By Robert |

Cave Without a Name, is a short, picturesque drive just outside Boerne, Texas. The cave tour was good with some awesome formations. The tour guide was informative about the history and geology of the cave. Only 126 steps down, unfortunately that meant we had to climb 126 steps back up. Took plenty of pictures but they don't do the cave or formations justice. Better to see in person.
After the tour we hiked around their trail systems. I figured the trails were basic gravel pathed, and easy going. Although the trails weren’t too hard, nothing too strenuous, they were more than we expected. It was a good hike, and the trails are clearly color coded. We had fun on the tour, hiking a few trails and we split a geode from the gift store. It is well worth a visit.

Attended a Concert for a friend's birthday, an the cool setting, along with the interesting acoustics, were awesome. I was, like with all caves, stunned by the way nature has found a way to create beauty even a hundred feet below the earth! Pretty cool!

By Shelly H |

We were deciding between 2 caves and I'm so glad we chose this one! The caves were impressive with their varied formations. Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting information. He clearly enjoyed what he was doing! I particularly liked that this cave was not highly commercialized. I am slightly claustrophobic and had no trouble on this tour. My teenagers enjoyed it too!

Had the distinct pleasure of touring the Cave Without A Name in Boerne, Texas today. One might wonder how a cave, open for tours, would have no name. Well, it happened in 1940. This cave didn’t open for tours until 1939 and the then owner decided to have a contest to name the cave. A young boy won the contest when he submitted the cave was too beautiful to be named. The second owner tried to rename it in 1950, but the locals were having none of it. In 2009 Cave Without a Name was declared a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.

I have not been to more than ten caves in my life, but I can say this cave is the most breathtaking in more than one way. The formations that nature has made with water and limestone are beyond belief. The 126 steps can be breathtaking coming back up if you aren’t in shape. By the time I got to the top my legs were feeling a bit rubbery. This is definitely not a tour for individuals with heart or breathing problems. There was a little girl on the tour with us and she skipped up the steps. Guess that is the difference between being 7 and 73. Oh well. I made it and that’s all that counts.

If you are anywhere within an hour’s drive from Boerne, Texas, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. They have places for picnics and a very nice gift shop with a wonderful display of Geodes for sale.

Connor was our guide on our visit yesterday. The cave was great and his tour was full of info. Lots of awesome sights. The only thing I wished was that we had time to just explore on our own, but I can see why we can't do that, haha.

By Safari218870 |

The tour guide was nice but the white male employee was rude. The scenery was nice. One of the customers was also shushing my 4 year old that definitely set the tone for the rest of the adventure. If you have younger children this may not be for you. Intolerant people from San Diego and a rude employee is all it took for this adventure to go from ok to poor. If you do go dont go with children.

By Laurie T |

We greatly enjoyed this cave and our tour guide. We’ve visited a number of caves and this one had features we’d never seen before. And we learned a lot of new things about caves! The 8 flights of stairs were challenging for me, but I made it okay. Be aware that they start the tour exactly on time. 2 late comers had to catch up to us.

By Amy D |

We had thankfully just missed a tour with a bunch of school kids. The cave is pretty, not as cool as you would think down there since it's kinda humid. The only bad part - the stairs going back up.

By Mickey H |

Julia was a great tour guide! Answered every question we had and made it very chill and entertaining!!! It was a unique cave for Central Texas...

By Tim W |

Our day outing began planning to see the Cascade Caverns, but unfortunately the unnamed storm off of Galveston was stirring up some big storms in the area and flooded them out. The guide at Cascade suggested we look up Cave Without a Name instead -so we did. And we're glad we did!

This cave system is not nearly as heavily advertised as other caves in the San Antonio region, so as a result it's far less spoiled. It was spectacular! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the cave system - both its geology and its discovery - and led our group on a very interesting tour.

This is a hidden gem and one to seek out if you're into cave exploration. We've been to quite a few cave tours throughout the southwest and Bermuda, and this one tops the list so far.

The "Cave Without a Name" in Boeme, Texas is one of seven caves in Texas which have tours available to the public. We arrived just in time to join the 12:00 tour along with 8 other adults and 2 children. Our guide Jessie lead us down 126 steps into the cave as she stopped and shared information along the way. There is a handrail for those who wish to use it as the steps can be a bit tricky for those less stable.

Once inside the cave, you will visit several "rooms", with one more beautiful than the other. Lights have been strategically placed to highlight particular formations and serve as a walking guide along the pathways. Jessie did a wonderful job of explaining how the cave was discovered and how the formations developed over hundreds and in some cases, thousands of years. At times you may think you are looking at sculptures by the Masters instead of mother nature.

This is a place you could tour time after time and see differently with each visit. Shrunken heads, jellyfish, bacon, grapes hanging in clusters, and even a Christmas tree are just a few of the amazing formations that delight and entertain.

The tour is about one hour in duration and is $18 pp (senior price) and $20 for Adults. We visited in April and were very comfortable wearing shorts. There are picnic tables on the grounds, and snacks and drinks in the gift shop.

By _kwscoupon |

We chose Cave Without a Name after extensive research and the staff exceeded our expectations.

Our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining on the hour tour. He seemed to really enjoy sharing the history of the cave and geology including Cave Bacon! The talk was age appropriate for both younger kids and adults. There were less than 20 in our group.

The caves are really beautiful and well maintained. There is no railing in the rooms for an up close experience.

We went for a scouting badge workshop, also. Seth was terrific and helped identify the sluiced minerals.

Coincidentally, there was a concert the night we visited.
We reserved separate tickets on the website. The cave’s acoustics are outstanding! This was a great introduction for the kids to Broadway show tunes in a venue few may experience in a lifetime!

I highly recommend Cave Without a Name.

Take in the concert if you have a chance.

Our guide Natalie was very informative and had so many great stories! We enjoyed the tour and great marked trails in the woods too.
Great day trip from Austin

By HelenG |

An amazing find - so worth the drive from San Antonio. Our guide Patti was a geologist so very knowledgeable. They hold concerts several times a year in one of the "rooms". The acoustics are amazing. My first cave and I think it will be hard to beat

By CloseONE |

We have been in a few caves and this was by far the best. Spectacular views, a great guide, and awesome lighting. The tour lasted about an hour and I would highly recommend it.

By SN P |

Really enjoyed the visit. The entrance to the cave looked deceivingly small and uninteresting but you will be amazed by what you see down there. The guide was good, provided great info but not too long winded. Allowed us time to appreciate the cave and take pictures.

By Alice B |

Andi was a spectacular tour guide. So knowledgeable and gave personal accounts. The cave was amazing! Big, open, beautiful!

By Kimmy S |

I love this place. It is cool and full of beautiful stories and images. They let you take pictures throughout and even will take one of you as a couple.

By Jacob W |

Nice easier tour. 45 min some good and more rare items for a cave to have are here including cave critters. Privately owned so not as much of a processed tour like on a government owned operation. Definatly worth the trek price is a little higher than most but worth it as just I and my wife this trip. Guide was great and personable gave good information without being overwhelming.

By Tami C |

This was a great experience a welcome distraction from the heat. The tour was good and the price was reasonable. I thought it was so cool that they hold concerts in this Cavern!

By Sylvia S |

The most beautiful cave we’ve visited in Texas!! Have been here twice, and although it’s smaller than other surrounding caves in the area it’s by far the most interesting and alive! Concerts are held there periodically because of the awesome acoustics. It’s a must see!

By Curt S |

As a geologist, I have been in caves and mines across the country. Since I now live in Boerne, we decided to check it out. I was expecting a few stalagmites and stalactites in a few rooms but was really surprised at how big and beautiful this cave is. We were in some very large rooms with every cave formation you can think of including beautiful throne formations, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, drapes, straws, pools and the underground river. The tour lasted about an hour and was well done. We probably covered at least a 1/4 mi down about 100 ft and the cave has been mapped to about 3 1/2 miles and still expanding. Several universities also have experimental stations set up to study this fascinating karst system.

By Grace N |

Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the cave. Great photos opportunities. Guide took a great picture of us in the cave. Cave was bigger than I thought it would be. Glad we we went!

By Patrycja |

We bought discovery tickets, the tour took 1h15min and I think it's definitely enough to see the cave. The cave was breathtaking, it's hard to imagine how nature can create something so incredible. The tour guide was knowledgeable and explained everything about formation and history of the cave.

By Nicole Fiallos |

Wonderful experience. Staff was also very polite and well trained The tour is so much fun, but I wouldnt recommend for little children or seniors

By Jodi H |

What a hidden gem! Right next to our house! We never knew. We went there on a Monday. No crowds! It was like our own private tour. The guide, Riley, was very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. The history of how the cave was discovered was so cool. Cute little gift shop that was not overpriced. They even have walking trails and a campground. If you don’t like the crowds and want a grade a natural wonder experience this is it.

By Kathy P |

We have been to several caves and we would rate this one as among the best. It is a beautiful drive from Boerne to get there, and the cave is easily accessible, even with a bum knee! The cave itself is a marvel of nature. Can’t wait to attend a concert in the Throne Room. Great tour guide.

By Debi |

This was a great place. Couldn't believe we had this right here in Boerne! What an unbelievable site. Water, caverns with stalagmites were my favorite. It was a wonderful place to bring my son.

By Randy B |

We have stop by many of the caves over the years here in Texas. This cave is spectacular, not that I’m putting down the others. If you have been to some of the others, you don’t want to miss this one. If you have never been spelunking give this one a try.

By ChrissieRutter |

This greatly exceeded my expectations! Our tour guide, Mike, was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with my picture-taking. The cave is extremely well maintained. It is well lit, the footing is good, and there are handrails in many places. If you can manage the 80’ of stairs down and up the main entrance, it’s accessible to most. Wear good hiking shoes, and enjoy the views! The shop and topside signage made me a bit wary at first, but the effort is put into maintaining the cave! It’s a must see!

By hb200805 |

This is worth a visit if you are in Boerne.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cave. We were able to see many different types of rock formations, columns, drapes, etc. The cave was quite large and cool ~66 degrees. Make sure to wear your tennis shoes because there are a lot of stairs to climb!

By Jules35805 |

We decided to stop here in the morning on our way to a Bandera ranch. Cave Without a Name is a hidden gem for sure and exceeded our expectations. Our guide was informative and interesting. We enjoyed learning all about the caverns and seeing all the cool formations. Would recommend!

By Susan S |

It is a long hike down so think twice if your not able to climb the 100 plus steps back up. They don't rush you so you'll eventually make it out but it can be tough carrying a baby or if you have a bad knee.
The tour is fairly short but very interesting and informative. The acoustic are amazing and they hold concerts in the cave on certain nights that are a must see.
The only reason I gave this a 4 and not a 5 was the tour guide. He was informative but he was kind of rude. Bad day? Maybe.

By Nora |

Loved it. Had the greatest guide ever. My 5 year old grandson loved it soo much that he can’t stop talking about. He told everyone that he would like to go back today and take his brothers. The guide made sure we were all taken care of and was very informative. We never felt rushed. Great experience!

By TallyHoHoHo |

Had been meaning to visit this place for years. Really enjoyed our visit. We went on a cold day and were the only ones on the tour, so we got a lot of attention! Our Tour guide was very knowledgeable and told lots of stories to make it interesting. I'd go again! The way into the cave is a little steep, so not good for older people or those with walkers.

By Shannon H |

At $18/person over 12, it is a little pricey for a family visit, but we definitely enjoyed it. More drapery formations than I've seen in other caves in Texas. Great, informative tour. Equivalent of about 8 flights of stairs up and down. Mike turned the lights out for us for a moment so we could experience what it would have been like for the first discoverers of the cave. The drive out was beautiful, too. Great springtime field trip.

By Steve L |

Wife and I visited the cave over Labor Day weekend. I was amazed at the rock formations, very very cool. We've been to some of the other well known caves you see advertised but this one blew them away. The lighting inside really shows the cave. I'm horrible with names but our tour guide was friendly, patient and very informative. The ONLY negative was the hike up 8 flights of stairs to get out. Of course if my chubby but was in better shape it wouldn't be an issue. :)

By Road04317489863 |

I had seen some reviews about this place, and they did not exaggerate! This was such a great experience. We had both been to other caves/caverns, but this one is quite a little gem. Our guide, Steve, was great and very knowledgeable about the cave and its geology. We had originally had other plans for the day and were glad that I had found this gem on the internet. I’ve seen comments about the 126 steps, but we’re in our 70s and this was no big deal.

By Eileen W |

My husband has loved caves since he was a teenager, so we had to see this one. We were late for our 11am tour and had no trouble rebooting to the 12pm tour. The guide really loved that cave and pointed out so many beautiful formations. He went at a slow enough pace to allow for picture taking and questions. This cave was different from others we've seen and we've seen a lot of caves. The guide was able to answer almost every question I asked. The paved paths were easy to walk, although s sometimes wet and a little slippery. We would highly recommend this tour- just beware- there are quite a number of stairs going in and coming out.

By Lisa B |

Great Texas cave experience! We enjoyed this cave tour! Located on private property that is open for commercial tours, this cave was developed in the 1930’s and was done with excellence.

Descending eight stories, you find yourself enthralled with the various formations. Small in size (approximately 1/4 mile in length), this cave does not disappoint.

We thoroughly enjoyed this cave tour and plan on returning in the future with some of our older children.

This is a beautiful property and we enjoyed seeing the deer on the drive to the entrance. They have a nice gift shop with lots of colored rocks and gorgeous geods.

By BeaMena |

Very friendly the staff of the place, Lisy was our guide and masters the information of the place very well. It is a site worth visiting and a different attraction and learning

By Thomas L |

Guide was informative and friendly, cave was a lot larger than I thought and the drive though hill country to get there was really nice as well as the gift shop there was reasonably priced and all in all nice trip

By Brynn H |

This was the best. I was lucky enough to get a private tour as I was the only visitor at the time. I really enjoyed it, the walk down the steps is not crazy, about 80 feet underground. Then you visit about five different rooms, the guide had all kinds of information to share, and was very interested in keeping the cave in good condition, explained how you can't touch anything, as human touch can stop the cave from growing. Many stalagmites, stalactites, cave bacon, rimstone dams. Nice little gift shop available. We had a picnic lunch with us and they had a picnic table, so we had a nice little lunch after our visit.

By ArgiThemis |

Outstanding experience ! The lady who gave the tour was really amazing and provide us with full interesting details of this SPYLAIO . YOU MUST VISITED THIS CAVE

By Tracy |

This cave is worth visiting if you are doing the Texas Cave Trail or you are already in the area. I wouldn't drive far out of my way to visit though. There are larger, more impressive caves not too far away. Overall, we enjoyed the cave and especially appreciated the small tour group size.

By KeeKeePMR |

Loved our time exploring this great cave. Our grandson loved it, too. Would love to go back for a small concert there.

By Chris T |

On occasion they have concerts with school orchestras or hand bells. It is wonderful to hear. You need to be physically able to climb a lot of stairs.

By Gretchen H |

Wonderful cave for families! The tour guide did a fantastic job leading the tour eith storytelling, talking about cave features. Highly recommend for families’ note- there are several flights of stairs. This was a hidden gem and a great experience!

By CharlieMeyer2020 |

Grandfather took 3 and 5 year old grandchildren and it was perfect. Tour takes about an hour which is perfect for young children. Significant amount of steps but they (grandchildren) led the pack on the stairs on the way back up at the end. Highly recommend.
I can’t say that this cave is any more spectacular than other caves, but don’t miss it if you’re nearby and looking for an activity with children.

Visited "The Cave" with family and truly enjoyed it. We arrived for the last tour and were the only four on the tour. Our guide was outstanding and really covered the history of the cave, it's discovery and work done to preserve its natural beauty. Overall I found the tour great and would recommend it to anyone camping in the area!

The ride to and from the cave was very scenic with lots of local wildlife to check out.

Visiting my brother who lives in Austin, he brought me here. We got lucky as the last 2 guests of a weekday ( Tuesday) and got a private tour as it was rainy and no other guests. Jesse our guide was very very good, personable and very knowledgeable. I don't want to spoil it by telling everything... but if your in Texas...well scratch that..Texas is a big state. If your in Austin or San Antonio...say within 100 miles or few hours drive I would highly recommend a visit here. The drive alone thru the Texas hillside country was beautiful ... saw lots of deer and cool old Texas ranches etc. Nice gift shop also. Did not have young children... but trip advisor did not have a fitting "type of trip" for me to select. That being said this would be a great destination if you do have childrens... educational...fun...and there was some fun activities kids would enjoy like the gems etc.... very...very cool sight to see.

Stopped by to check out the cave on our way to Kerrville. Our ages ranged from 1 yr old up to 50+ yrs old. Going down was easy. Cool 70 degrees in the cave which was a nice break from the Texas Summer heat. On the way out we had to climb a few flights of stairs which got hotter as we surfaced the exit. The older crowd with us had a hard time making the climb up.

My family recently visited during Spring Break, and we were so pleased with the Cave Without a Name! Originally, I planned on having us visit Natural Bridge Caverns, but I was unable to reserve tickets online. I found this cave in Boerne, and figured it was a good alternative, and boy, I am glad we visited!

The cave stays a cool 66 degrees year round, rain or shine, so you can visit regardless of the weather conditions. There are stairs with railing leading down to the cave floor. The cave is lit with string/rope lights (like Christmas lights) so visibility isn't an issue. Once you reach the bottom, the formations, the space, and the acoustics are incredible!

We learned that they hold concerts down there! So it's a large space. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and very sweet to the young children on the tour with us. The tour was engaging and interesting. My 8 & 11 year old loved it.

Plenty of opportunities to take photos, the tour is about 75 minutes in length. Which is just about right. There is a little gift shop and a bathroom on the premises as well. We enjoyed this visit very much!

By Guide797091 |

Well worth the visit. Very interesting. We had a private tour. Don't let the unassuming store detract you from going.

By dclaes46 |

We visited the cave without a name 30 years ago and it was a great cave with all kinds of formations. It is a fairly easy walk, other than the steps down and then back up. It has been upgraded in a number of ways, the road in is nice, the parking lot is good and the building is much larger and has more in it. There is a campground too. It is off the beaten path, way off but worth the drive.

By Maggie W |

This hidden beauty is a great experience. Great formations and lecture by guide. Not a huge commercial attraction but a great example of cave systems and water recharge. Formations are beautiful. Volunteers have done a wonderful job of keeping the cave natural. I would absolutely recommend a visit.

By Rick1971 |

The tour guide was great I asked alot of questions (too many probably), but it was great.
I recommend it to anyone, the history was awesome!

By Marcos |

This seemingly modest cave is one of the most spectacular I have ever visited. The funky gift shop and other above-ground facilities give no hint as to what lies below. It's an easy staircase down...past the site of a Prohibition Era still site...through a blasted-out entry into a HUGE room with some of the most opulent cave formations imaginable. Delicate rim pools are everywhere; delicate helictites hide in corners, and massive flowstone formations amaze. The rooms go on and on following an underground stream that ultimately disappears in the distance. This cave is not to be missed.

This cave is the best! Family owned, not commercialized. It’s so beautiful! Our guide Andy was great! She was very funny and friendly. This is exactly why we just keep coming! Best cave!

By mwoz36 |

This cave isn't very long, but it is action packed. So much going on. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Glad I went, a must see!

By scsepke |

This cave starts and ends with 8 flights of stairs and tour is an hour. Tour is great for younger kids as once you pass the stairs the cave has several wide open rooms.

We visited for Spring Break and Mike was our guide. He was very knowledgeable but wasn't to thrilled to answer all of the kids' silly questions.

Overall, highly recommend this cave.

By Amira D |

Brandon was awesome, beautiful cavern with lots of life! Wear good shoes though, can get quite slick in some places, but my 5 year old managed in sneakers so nothing extreme.

By Flower N |

This was an excellent cave tour. The guide kept a good pace and balanced talking with walking. There were significant hills in this cave, as described on the website. We also enjoyed the zipline and ropes course on site.

By Gina J |

We were passing through and decided to make a short stop. Easy access and relatively short tour for those who don’t have a lot of time to hang around. The guide had very interesting information about its history.

By Edward V |

This is a great cave to visit. Tours are not crowded, great staff and beautiful cave. Try the in cave concerts for something unique.

By mshoughland |

This was an absolutely wonderful (and wonder-full) experience for our family. The cave is spectacular, and Kathryn did such an incredible job taking us through the cave and its history, pointing out amazing formations (and explaining how they came to be), and answering our questions. She’s a natural teacher; our kids range from 5-10 years old, and Kathryn tuned into and connected with each of them. Cave Without a Name was a highlight of our spring break—if we were local, this is where we’d take all our out-of-town guests. As it is, we’d love to plan another trip to the area and visit again!

By Niesyj |

Ms. Katherine was amazing!!! She was knowledgeable about everything and took her time with answering any questions. But that’s not it… my mom, who is a little bit older, really wasn’t prepared for coming out of the cave. We had to stop for her at each landing… as soon as we were out of the cave Ms. Katherine went and got her ice cold water and a fan. That’s over and beyond what is required of her job. Thanks Ms. Katherine and your employer is blessed to have you!!!

By Sheila R |

We ended up having a private tour with the 4 of us. Eliah was our guide. He did an amazing job. I can tell he loves his job and the cave. This is a must see

By Peter b |

The caves are amazing! I've been into quite a few caves around the world, but rarely seen such a range of formations. The tour was very well organised, and more accessible than we thought it would be. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, had a great sense of humour, and explained things really well.

By Gloria G |

This was an amazing tour! The guide Alex was knowledgeable and brought fun and humor into the history of the formations and founding of the cave. Would absolutely recommend.

By KeysLife2013 |

went to visit there with my wife and we sure enjoyed every minute of it dont hesitate to visit if you are in the area of Boerne

By Bonnie R |

The tour of Cave Without a Name was a wonderful experience. It was as if u stepped into another world. Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the facts and history of the cave. Would recommend to everyone.

By Virginia H |

my husband worked at the cave when he was a teen ager , he is 84 now , but still has wonderful memories of the cave . i have visited it quite a few times , love the feeling while in the cave , cool and moist . its a live cave still developing ..do try and visit it when i the boerne area , you wont be dissapointed .

By jason p |

Cave is far larger and prettier than expected and I've been to a number of them.
Our young female guide (nicole? jennifer?) was very knowledgeable and has a good ability to read people. It was myself and 3 sons - we didn't need a tour guide - we needed someone to answer questions... She was both and awesome at it.
Great people, Great Cave, Great price - worth the visit.

By Michelle H |

My second time to visit the cave on a field trip - however, this time around was better as we went on a little educational nature walk before we headed down into the cave. Our guide was very knowledgeable, patient with the kiddos, and kind.

By BoerneBob |

We went for a concert in the first big room holding a maximum 200 guests. The sounds created by the instruments playing was amazing. Not a large cavern system, but I plan to go back for a tour of the rest of the rooms.

By Ryan R |

I had an Great! experience touring the cave without a name in Boerne, Texas! The cave itself is full of fascinating history, and our guide, Andy, was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and made the tour even more enjoyable. Plus, the cave hosts special concerts throughout the year, adding a unique touch to the experience. Highly recommend visiting for an educational and fun adventure!

The not-very-well-known “Cave Without a Name” is located a few miles northeast of Boerne, Texas. For those unfamiliar with south Texas, Boerne is located about 35 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio. It took us about 50 minutes to drive from our hotel along the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio to the Cave Without a Name.

Your GPS probably will find this place without a street address. Just enter “Cave Without a Name.” It worked for us.

I’ve been to several cave tours in Texas. The Cave Without a Name is the best I’ve seen. It’s not that this cave is larger than the others, but the formations are especially impressive, the numerous “rooms” are larger than the others and the lighting in this cave is especially well done.

It cost us about $60 for a one-hour tour for two adults and two children. This was well worth the price. The tour guide was very familiar with the cave’s geological history as well as with the history associated with its discovery in the early 20th century.

The cave tour descends about 80 feet below the surface. The stairs are not too steep but bear in mind you will descend and the climb the stairs for a vertical equivalent of an 8 story building.

They have evening concerts in one of the larger rooms in the cave. You will have to call ahead to find out when the concerts are scheduled because they are not a nightly event.

There are other cave tours in the area, most of which more effectively promoted and better known. I highly recommend you try Cave Without a Name. Because the Cave Without a Name is less well known, the size of your tour group is likely to be substantially smaller than it will be at some of the other, better advertised cave tours in Texas.

Reservations are not needed (unless you intend to book a tour for a large group).

By Hillary C |

Steve was really funny and knowledgeable, and we even got a see a tiny bat! The tour was way too short, and we would have liked more time to stop and explore, but it was beautiful, and they really packed a lot of information into the tour.

By ellie e |

An incredible cave and an excellent family activity for those hot summer days! It was a cool 66F down below.. . Our guide, Jesse, was very knowledgeable and the tour lasted an hour. Everyone enjoyed the gorgeous sights and the intriguing stories about the three kids who discovered it all. We even got to see 3 tri-colored, sleeping bat's.

By 236jefferys |

We took our family to see the Cave Without a Name on during a family gathering in the Hill Country. I had heard this cave was worth seeing but it still surprised me. It is worth the time for a visit if you are ever in the Hill Country area. This cave is not advisable for handicapped people or people with difficulty walking on uneven ground or up many steps.

By carios |

We have visited Boerne many times in the past but just learned about this exciting location. It was incredible. We had a great guide and a small group and we walked the entire cave. It has been cared for lovingly and the employees really seem to like their jobs. We understand that they also have concerts inside the cave but we were not able to attend one of the performances. This was a fun adventure and a great day trip.

By Shani_11 |

This is a smaller cave, but it outshines all the others. The formations are awesome and the tour guide was really interested in taking the time to show everyone in the group the formations.

I have been to all the show caves in Texas and this one definitely deserves the title "Show Cave"! Take the time to see this one.

By sabgkids |

Our local relatives told us we had to go visit their local cave and we were glad we did. The guide was engaging and informative and the cave itself is quite beautiful. If you are in this area, go see it!

By Ellen L |

While definitely a bit out of the way, this cave is worth the trip. Great guides, an very unusual features. There are a few activities available for the whole family either before or after the tour. Wear sturdy walking shoes and expect they will get a bit muddy. Tour lasts about an hour so stop at the restrooms before it begins. There are quite a few stairs to get down into the cave and you must ascend the same stairs to exit so be certain you are up to that physical exertion.

By Katrina L |

Blacklight awesomeness 😎 Caroline was the BEST!!!!! She was fun, interactive, jokes, acknowledged the children and we had an absolute blast!

By Sarah C |

We rented a trailer and hooked up in one of the few rv spots. We liked that it was a small site. Great experience! The cave was a must see! Tour guide, Sarah did great. Hiking trails were beautiful! Hidden gem for sure.

By Txaggievet |

Love this cave. Great formations, friendly staff, usually not very crowded. The only possible issue is gettin up the stairs, it’s 8 stories down, and you have to walk back up, so elderly people may need to consider this. But the kids loved the tour. Lots of fun.

By TheLTS |

This is a beautiful cave to tour without the crowds. Do not, however, take children to this cave as the guides are not child friendly. Unfortunately, our tour guide, Chris, was extremely rude. We had our 5 year old grandson with us who did not touch anything but did ask a lot of questions. Chris finally said to our group (which consisted of 3 other adults besides myself, my spouse and our grandson), “Does anyone over 5 have any questions?” The other people with our group did not find it at all annoying that our grandson asked questions. They actually remarked positively about how curious he was. So, for Chris: Never, ever, ever squelch the curiosity of a child!

By David E |

Not well known, not well publicized, but filled with marvelous, ornate, and unique formations throughout the Cave. The ascent is over 6 stories so pace yourself coming back up from the cave floor. The guides are knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour moves quickly even though it is an hour long and worth every penny. Finally, this small operation is like no other in the state, yet the treasure before the surface is a hidden gem.

By Waunderlust |

Seriously a very beautiful cave. The tour guide was awesome too! Great service, beautiful cave, what more could I ask for lol

By amp1231 |

Wanted to find something not as "touristy" as Natural Bridge Caverns. This cave definitely fit the bill. Was just 5 of us on the tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and clearly enjoys what he does. Actually worked out that it was raining the day we went. Got to see some groundwater making its way into the cave. At one point in the tour, we were put in "total darkness" which was pretty neat. Would highly recommend if in the area.

By Ashtb03 |

When you pull up to the place it doesn't look like much but when you walk into the store there's beautiful rocks and other souvenirs! You go on the tour of the cave and again doesn't seem like it's going to be much or that big but wrong again! The tour guides are awesome! They are full of information and great with kids and questions from everyone! The cave is beautiful with many different formations! I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about going to a cave to go to this one! It's also cheaper than the other one around lol

By PB H |

Remote location but if you can find the place, you are in for a real treat! Wonderful cave and tour -- our guide was knowledgeable and great with answering our questions. Luckily there were only 2 others on our 12 noon tour on a Wednesday with 14 on the 1 pm -- go early! Once you get down the 123 steps (yes, you have to go back up), the floor of the cave is fairly flat, and the tour is of 3 caverns and the corridors.....examples of every kind of stalagmite, stalactite, curtain, bacon, column, and popcorn formation. Big open cavern rooms rather than small, narrow corridors. A wonderful experience and would highly recommend -- if you can take the stairs.

By Mary B |

We had a great time at Cave With No Name. Guide was knowledgeable and fun. The cave is beautiful. The tour takes about an hour. Great way to get out of the heat. For those who have difficulty with stairs may not want to visit the cave.

By Paula M |

This was a great adventure as this is a beautiful cave. The tour guide was very informative. It requires the ability to climb many steps.

By Petthebear |

Came to SA for business and stayed at an Airbnb after to explore Texas Hill Country. I chose A Cave Without A Name to avoid the much busier Natural Caverns down the road a bit. This place has all the same attractions at a fraction of the cost and was much more of a personal experience.

Great guide. Be prepared to take the stairs.. they are naturally wet and can be slippery, but the guide stops often and makes it ok for everyone who needs to take their time!

By Jesse M |

This is one of the most amazing caves in the Texas Hill Country! Absolutely beautiful and well preserved with stunning natural formations. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and answer all questions with great detail! A must see!

By MLA707 |

Totally worth going off the beaten track for and the $20.00 admission. Our tour guide was well spoken and very informative. Beautiful cave!

By Hiker3679 |

Cave without a name was a great find! I've been to a few other caves in the Texas and this cave is by far the best. The story of how it was found was interesting to say the least. Elaine was very well informed in and we got to tour the place with a small group of five, it felt like a very intimate experience. This cavern compared to others in Texas is very cool, which I enjoyed since I don't like the heat. The 126 steps back up are a bit tiresome, but doable. I also enjoyed the store, they have a lot of cool pieces and a lot of amethyst, which I love.

P.s. When you put in the address google gives you for the caverns, it'll tell you that you have arrived about 5 minutes before you do. Don't panic though there are at least two signs after Google turns off that will guide you to the caves. :)

By Hardday |

Interesting, name, interesting back story about the cave. Fun story about its name. And the cave is delightful as well. A very good cave experience if you like caves. I recommend it for sure.

By Lisle Brook |

Our one hour tour of the cave was fun and educational. The tour guide was great. Wish I could remember his name to thank him by name in this post. He gave an un-rushed, enjoyable tour, explaining the various formations in the cave. I would have rated it 5 star, but after visiting the Carlsbad Caverns multiple times, this cave and associated tour just aren't in the same category. I would love to come back with my grandchildren....great place for them to visit!

By Lu S |

We visited this cave today after seeing it on the internet randomly. So glad we did. The tour was very small and the guide was super patient and answered all 9 million of our questions. It was well worth the fee. The cave was smaller than natural bridge but you can see so much more cool stuff up close. Tour took an hour and was filled with neat stuff. It made me want to actually learn more about caves. What a gem this place is. Fyi check their website. The groupon price was more than their price on their website.

By Storyteller478475 |

A nice easy drive. The cave was amazing. The tour guide was very informative and friendly. Very interesting. It was very apparent that she loves her job and the story behind the discovery of the cave. She wasn’t just telling a story, she made it come alive . We loved it. Can’t wait to go back with my grandkids.

By laurieramos58@gmail.com |

I've visited many caves in Texas and in other states. This one stands among the best. The young person presenting the tour was informative, funny and patient. She even took photos of the several different groups so we could be in the pictures with our family, friends, etc.
The only word of caution is that is quite a descent and climb back up at the end (sorry, caves don't naturally come with elevators), but it's well worth it. Even as a I a slightly overweight, 64 year old grandmother, I made it. Still, I wouldn't recommend it for persons with serious knee issues.

By Irish311 |

This was a very enjoyable stop on a day trip. We missed the tour and they let us catch up. The cave itself is pretty amazing which they have couples nicely with the tour and the lights in order to help you focus on the portion you were at. The cave is far nicer then natural bridge caverns and the tour was not just hurrying to get finished . We even saw cave frogs and crickets . Really nice place to visit.

By Vinster7 |

We liked it much better than Natural Bridge, less touristy, amazing guide....knowledgeable, very passionate about the cave. Kudos for the patience he showed with the bratty children with no parental control.
The gift shop prices for stones/gems is quite a lower than we’ve seen anywhere else.
Well worth the drive from San Antonio.
Cave in the morning, downtown...food, drink, ducks in the afternoon.

By stang302flies |

It's a really cool cave, well literally cool, but I mean it's beautiful and great to see. The guy giving the tour was informative and took his time explaining the cave etc.

By Wendy G |

My husband and I booked a couple days out in west Texas. On the way up, we made a stop at Cave Without A Name. I wasn't aware of the 126 steps (the way down was easy, but coming up was another story). But the view once inside the cave was something I can't put into words. Our guide, Julia, was full of information and friendly. It's definitely a sight to see!

By DreamaAstrid |

While on vacation in the San Antonio area we decided to try a cave tour. We visited 'Cave Without a Name' near Boerne, TX and really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this cave tour to others.

By stacialmager |

So, we declined going to this incredible site for years because the name does it absolutely no justice. Do not miss this beautiful hidden gem in the Texas Hill Country. It is not as commercial or "sexy" as Carlsbad Caverns or Natural Bridge Caverns but it is worth every penny to take kids to see one of the caves which represent thousands of under ground caverns in South Texas. The road to get their is lumpy and bumpy but worth navigating the backroads to get there.

By Sandra B |

This cave is awesome and well worth the time to tour it. It was so much bigger than I expected, and the rock formations are incredible. Pictures don't do it justice...it's just so pretty inside!

By Carola A |

Wonderful!! And the road to the caves is very nice. Fully recommended. I went with my teenage daughters and they loved it too. The people who make the guide are very friendly and know perfectly well what they are talking about. Very nice walk!!!

By snramsey |

The last-minute decision to take our grandchildren to the cave was one of our best decisions for a family outing. The tour guide was so friendly, knowledgeable and gave us a great experience. The cave was beautiful and a nice excursion from our normal surroundings. I learned so much about our environment and it was very educational for our grandkids. Definitely worth another visit!!

By Pat S |

We took a trip around the local countryside and eventually found the cave . Luckily a tour was about to start. In reception it warned us that was 120 steps down the 120 steps up to make sure you are capable. Mike our guide was waiting at the bottom of the steps. I would advise anyone visiting should wear appropriate shoes I did not and that was not so easy. Mike was very informative any questions we had he was able to answer. It is truly an amazing cave and would recommend it as a great visit.

By Carissa B |

My husband, 4 year old daughter, and I visited Cave Without a Name today and greatly enjoyed out visit. We had visited Caverns of Sonora last year and are trying to complete our Texas Cave Trails Passport. The tour is about 1 hour long and takes you through 6 rooms of the cave. You descend about 80ft. under ground, so be prepared to take some stairs. (Think an eight story building!) So, after visiting Caverns of Sonora (which was our first cave to visit as a family), I think we felt we had seen them all... Not true. Sonora is very sparkly, but Cave Without a Name has much larger rooms and formations. It was well worth it's own visit. They are both beautiful in their own ways. The tour tickets and gift shop items were all reasonably priced and our daughter had fun panning for gems after the tour. Be aware that the cave is under improvements and you may see some occasional wiring or PVC pipes. While it may not appear perfectly natural, the cave wouldn't be accessible otherwise, and I certainly can't fault anyone for improvements!

By Ralph P |

This was a great experience.even better was that we went mid-afternoon, mid-week and we were 2 of 4 people on the tour. Tour guide was knowledgeable and shared some very interesting points. This cavern is 8-stories underground and a cavern thats been carbon-dated over 105 million years old. Lots of new growth too and a few bats.

By Suzanne Y |

Fantastic concert inside the cave. Many improvements both outside and inside the cave.
Lighting and formations are spectacular.

By TMarie1980 |

Great tour to a huge and beautiful cave. The staff were all great and our tour guide Amy was extremely knowledgeable.

By Sarah S |

My husband, son, and I visited this cave last week and we had a great time. It was beautiful and absolutely incredible. We love going to caves and this one is in our top 5. The tour guide was knowledgeable and really involved all of the kids on the tour. After the tour in the gift shop they sell bags of sand that have gems or fossils that you can discover by using their sluice. Our son that was the coolest thing ever. Don't pass this up when you are in the Boerne area.

By Donna C |

Beautiful cave! Only recommend thing is wear tennis shoes and if you have a hard time climbing steep objects you have a steep 126 steps back up to the exit. Beautiful water ponds and saw a couple bats which was very cool! A must see

By cdb15427 |

I am not a Caver. I was in Boerne for an athletic event. Lonely Planet recommended Cave without a name. I was very impressed with the tour and tour guide Jessie. I live in Canada and had no idea that there are approx 5400 caves in Texas. I learned many of these caves are located on private property. The Cave without a name has been well preserved and is a fascinating place to visit. There are 126 steps down and back up.

By Terry B |

Love this cave. Great formations. Good prices. Close to San Antonio and doesn't take all day to tour. Definitely worth a visit!

By Lisa |

My boyfriend and I enjoyed this tour. The cave is well lit, creating awesome photos. Our guide, Taylor, was knowledgeable, professional, and personable.
Tips:
1. It’s not 66 degrees like the website says. It might be 66 degrees during winter months, not not in July. It was closer to 76 with the humidity — but still better than the 100 degrees outside. This chilly willy took a jacket but it stayed tied around my waist.
2. Wear tennis shoes with traction. The rock is smooth and moist. Don’t be that guy who shows up in flip flops and then gets mad they’re turned away.
3. The echo game is strong. If you’re planning to converse with your husband, bring small children, or cough the whole time, then please stay home because the group can’t hear the guide over your noise. It’s mind blowing how disrespectful people can be.
4. Most importantly, bring cash to tip your guide. They work hard to provide a fun and educational experience.

I highly recommend this tour. I can’t believe it’s taken me 15 years to check it out.

By Peter L |

Guided tour lasts about one hour
Walk down & up about 8 flights of stairs.
Costs $20 per adult, discounts for AAA, military.
Not huge but have some interesting formations
Chamber of commerce shows the site north or left of road but it is on the right. There is a big sign.
Tour first come first serve. May wait 45 minutes for next tour if u just miss one
Not for too young children or those who cannot manage eight flight of stairs.

By MissTXtraveler |

This place is very quaint and laid back. The staff were friendly and helpful. The young guy who did our tour was funny and did a great job!

By Ronski766 |

We showed up midweek and were the only ones so we got a private tour. Glorious, well-preserved cavern. Check their website for concerts. That would be an incredible experience!!!

By Ruth |

It is definitely worth visiting. The caverns are just beautiful. The guide is very knowledgeable. The tour takes about an hour. But you must be physically able to walk up eight flights up steps.

By Sid F |

As you can tell from other reviews, CWAN is a beautiful commercial cave - but it is much more than that! All year there are concerts held inside the cave, with wonderful accoustics and atmosphere, these are always well worth the visit. There is a particular group that we love that has been doing solstice concerts quarterly for 17 years. There are 7 band members - each incredibly talented and diverse and each delivers a passionate and stirring performance. We highly reccomend checking this out! All ages were there. You will need sensible shoes.

By wesyz |

Interesting small cavern in the Texas Hill Country. Cave has beautiful formations and the family running it give a friendly and interesting tour. We also attended a musical show down in the main room which was a very unique, fun experience.

By Varvara M |

Hidden in the unassuming surroundings is a real gem! The cave is beautiful, expertly presented with the lights that switch on and off as you go, revealing new parts of the cave… the 1 hour tour was well guided and interesting. Definitely worth visiting!

By er60031 |

I went with a tour group to the caves and it was amazing to see the rock formations. You can tell that the guides know the history very well and were interested in keeping the caves maintained. Parts of the caves were lighted during the tour and others weren't, but this makes sense as this ensure that the rock formations continues to grow.

It was interesting to learn that people hold concerts down in the caves due to the acoustics as well as hold wedding ceremonies. If you look on youtube, you can actually see what it sounds like when a concert is playing.

The distance was far from everything, but otherwise it is worth going off the tourist path and explore a new town and new attraction.

Word of advice is that there are steep stairs to enter the caves, so if you have limited mobility or are disabled, this may not be the attraction for you as there are no elevators to go up and down into the caves.

By Dan S |

The cave is a great small cave. For a senior it was just the right size, and our great tour guide was very patient with the children. We've seen a number of caves in our life, and think this was just right for a not too long caving experience. The 126 steps up on the way out were not easy for me with my lung issues, and our great tour guide made me feel like I was doing a favor making her stop on occasion. Rated it a 5.

By Trisha T |

This is well worth the drive to get there. It has rained lately and the cave's stream was really flowing. Great lighting for pictures and very informative guide. They do concerts there wish I could have been there for that. One of the best and I have been to Mammoth cave, Carlsbad, katchern and lots of other little ones.

By Johnny L |

We love staying at the RV sites. Great location, and the wood and brush around the fence line is a great buffer. The deer also hide out in the trees and it is fun watching them. The new bathroom and shower facility is great! The only improvement needed to make this a six star review is potable water and maybe a dump site. We did the cave tour a few years ago and if you haven’t done the tour, spend the time and money to do so. It is well worth it.

By Paula W |

We enjoyed our trip to “Cave with no name”! Mike was our tour guide. A cave enthusiast himself, who has visited many caves in different states. His tour was not only very interesting, but educational also. I would definitely recommend visiting this cave.

By Reba368 |

This cave is a must see. I have been to a lot of caves and this one by far is amazing. The tour guide does a great job and knows the formations and details.

By Sissy581 |

We really enjoyed the Cave Without a Name. Such a interesting site in the middle of the Country around Boerne, TX. Great tour guide, and lots of knowledge on caves. Would enjoy going to a concert in this cave they have them monthly thru the year. Be able to do the climb up doing the stairs down was not bad. Just a short rest and you can do it.

By Kellieslp |

My husband and I took a tour with Riley on a slow day right before Christmas. He was an amazing tour guide and had so much information to share yet made it interactive. Answered all my questions! The cave is one of the better ones I have been in and rich in history. I even got to see a bat!

By LANCE O |

The cave is filled with spectacular formations of stalactites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, cave drapery, magnificent flowstone, rimstone...just jam-packed with beautiful cave creations. The cave is comfortably warm, quite humid. The leisurely and relaxing tour will take about an hour.

Their gift shop is pretty nice, as well. Worth a browse, to be sure.

Tour cost is $20...money well spent.

Happy caving.

By yarslair |

Located just outside of Boerne Texas this cave is enjoyable. Took the guided tour, about 1 1/2 hour.

Great local story on how rhe cave was discovered.

By Startravel |

I read a previous review from a geologist and decided to give it a try. It was my first cave experience. I was traveling with a 10 years old. We both loved it. The guide was excellent explaining all the different formations and made it very exciting (I hate when guides talk like playing a recording) The stairs going down are not a big deal but going back up are not as fun. Just beware if you have seniors in your group. I feel the entrance is worth every penny.

By Thomas D |

Small cave with several large rooms and very nicely presented. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Must be able to climb and descend stairs on your own. Summertime visit when 100 outside and is 66 down below was a great thing to do. They also have a camping area and gift shop with reasonably priced items.

By Tracy R |

This cave was lovely! The stairs were not very slippery or wet and the path was extremely well lit. There are multiple places to take beautiful photos inside the cave, and you are given ample time on the tour to take the photos.

By Deb B |

Until recently I did not even know this place existed. We went for dinner and a concert. Yes, a concert inside the cave. Dinner was served in another location, and then we went 126 steps down a winding stairwell carved into the rock. Inside the cave there are amazing rock formations that are so cool that you might think you are on a Disney set, but it's the real deal. The acoustics are near perfect. The first songs were operatic, and when the first notes were sung they seemed to go right through to my soul! I burst into tears!

I cannot wait to go back, but there is one warning. Coming back up is extremely difficult. The sign says you are climbing back up 8 stories! My thighs were very sore for a couple of days. Well worth it!

By Michelle R |

The guided tour we took on the Saturday before Memorial Day at 1pm was a small group. The cave is located right next to the gift shop (which happens to be an old building from the early 1900s). Lots of beautiful amethyst for sale if you're an amethyst fan.
To get to the cave, you have to walk down about 8 flights of stairs. ***BEWARE: If you have bad knees, you shouldn't do this cave. You'll have to be walking back up those 8 flights***
Now, if you can handle the stairs, you'll be glad you went down. It is so beautiful! The original entryway into the cave system is a simple hole in the ground, but wow, what a view! Spectacular! The young man who was our guide, I didn't get his name, did a wonderful job providing the history of the cave and pointing out very unique formations created by time and water. One of the really interesting rooms is the Food Court. We were shown a fried egg, some cave bacon, soda straws, someone stuck their 44 scoop ice cream cone to the ceiling, and there were several clusters of grapes. Pretty cool.
In another area, there were a number of small pools of water that reminded me of the agricultural steps or rice patties of Asia. Very pretty.
One cool thing was all the cave kisses. We've been to two other cave systems in the past year and both of them only kissed us about twice a piece. I was kissed 5 times before we made it off of the cement steps to actually see the cave. It is a very lucky cave system.
You must go. It's beautiful!

I really loved this gorgeous cave! It wasn’t too crowded and the tour guide was very knowledgeable! I’d definitely come back

This gem of a place is fantastic to get out of the Texas summer heat. The caves were spectacular. The formations were unbelievable. Definitely something you do not get to see everyday.

By Tracy S |

Very clean, friendly and informative staff, just a beautiful cave! Highly recommend! Easy to find. Clean bathrooms. Love the cool climate down in the cave. Make sure to wear good shoes....get gets slippery down there. But they have railings and that helps.

I have been here several times, get ready for a hike! This cave is gorgeous and the drive there is great too!

By ranger505 |

this has some of the most beautiful formations in a commercial cave i have ever seen. many are quite large and in excellent condition. i had a solo tour as i went on a Monday afternoon. I would imagine a weekend trip would have been full, but it appears they limit tours to 25 people. the walk down the steps into the cave can be difficult for some, because you have to come back up, too. the cave passage itself was very easy to walk.

this cave also has concerts in a large room with excellent acoustics. it looks like they can fit about 200 people in the concert area.

there is a gift shop with some interesting stuff in it as well, along with a nearby campground.

the guide's stories about the history and how this cave ("...I google everything...") really added to the trip.

So, this place is a little out of the way, but totally worth it. The caverns sit off a country road and are privately owned. The gentlemen there took us down a well lit stairway to the caves, where he explained their history and formation. He gave us plenty of time to take photos, never rushing us along. There were only 7 of us on this tour, so it really made for a wonderfully private experience. The caverns themselves, while not huge, are spectacular.

By Jana S |

it's really a horrible name, wish they had better marketing, but the cave and experience itself are IMPRESSIVE! I went with my family (in-laws visiting from out of town) while I was 7 months pregnant and we ALL had a good time. Be warned, there are 8 flights of pretty steep stairs, so this might be a physical restriction for some, but you can go slowly/last if you need to.

I know people posted pictures, but I wish they hadn't because every "room" fo the cave was a beautiful SURPRISE as they illuminate just one room at a time and you have no idea how big the cave is till the very end...the tour guide did a great job. will definitely take out of town guests again!

By Dusty B |

Our tour guide Alex did a fantastic job guiding us through the cavern while pointing out some very interesting features. He used humor and answered all our questions. The cave was bigger than I thought and had beautiful formations. Be sure you are in good physical condition as the climb down and back up - about 80 feet - is strenuous. Well worth the trip! Thanks Alex!

My wife and I go to every cave we are close to. We have been to dozens of caves, and this cave would be in our top 3. This is our third cave in the Texas cave trail and we will be doing the other two later this week. All the other caves are a little better known so we were not expecting to be wowed. The sheer volume of the rooms is amazing and the features in this cave are among the best we have ever seen.

Every cave has something that makes it special and unique The cave without a name as several.

The cascading pools are a unique feature that almost a whole room. There are similar pools and ripples in some of the other caves we have visited but nothing on this scale. 2 or 3 ft of ripples is normal here there are hundreds of feet.

Most active caves have some soda straws, most are a couple of inches to maybe a foot at the most. Here there are thousands of soda straws and many over 3 ft long.

Most caves that have flowstone have some big white flowstone walls but this cave has those and in addition there are stark white ribbons throughout and white drapes and fringes on the edges of brown formations and cave bacon. and there are lightning like streaks of white on some of the walls. They did not have black light flashlights but I can imagine how beautiful these white highlights would be under the black light.

Finally they have the most defined fringes on some of the ribbon features that I have ever seen. Some of them have so much ribbed fringe that they look like a dinosaurs back.

Like I said at the beginning My wife and I have seen lots of caves. In Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia, and likely some states I am forgetting right now and this cave is in the top 3.

If you are in the San Antonio, or Austin area of Texas do whatever you need to do to make time to see this cave. It is an absolute must see,

Beautiful site of nature’s subterranean artwork. This ancient system of caves
Is as good as caving gets. A good, cool place to spend a hot summer day.

Very good family-owned Cave on the outskirts of Boerne out in the country. Nice tour guide. Laid back and low key; smaller number of people on our tour. They have an adequate gift shop too with many mineral specimens. Recommend a stop for a cool experience.

By adventureescape |

It was a nice cavern. The guide told all of the history and explained the formations. There is a large underground river that they haven't fully explored. There are a lot of steps and they are slippery, like most caverns, so wear good walking shoes.

By Joy D |

We absolutely loved visiting this treasure. We were given a tour by a very knowledgeable guide. The inside of the cave was so lovely. We wish we lived closer so that we could attend one of the concerts held inside the cave. The walk back up the 126 steps was a bit of a hike, but very well worth it!!

By karu99 |

We had read the reviews on TA and made sure to include the cave tour on our San Antonio trip. The Cave Without A Name is an easy drive from San Antonio and includes free parking and a small gift shop. The cave is an amazing natural wonder. The tour takes about an hour and our guide did a fantastic job of sharing the history of the cave as well as pointing out all of the many interesting features and points of interest. We have been on several cave tours around the country and the Cave Without A Name is one of the most beautiful. If you live in or visit the San Antonio or Austin ares don't miss it.

By Trina N |

This is a small cave with a big climb. Don't do it if you can't climb stairs, but if you can, this is a great cave. It's not so commercial here, although they do sell Tibetian Singing Bowls, ?.

By juliamontez1971 |

Interesting experience to say the least, it was obvious that the tour guide didn't know a whole lot about the history of the cave or the geological formations but was a very polite guy nonetheless. The cave itself was gorgeous and overall, we did enjoy our time. Definitely a one and done thing though.

By RoboManiac |

We arranged for tickets the night before online and arrived twenty minutes before our tour. The cave is located outside of Boerne on privately held land. The tour guides were busy with two large groups of third grade students and their parents wh arrived late. The guide assured us they would be able accommodate our tour and they did. The cave is unique with it’s underground “food court” and terraced pools and our knowledgeable guide made the tour ever so enjoyable.
We’re looking forward to visiting again soon with friends and family.

By Ashley R |

We were booked as a private tour and it was amazing! The tour guide, Andi, was so informative and fun! She allowed us to ask a million questions and sweetly explained anything that the kids (and adults) asked about. These family-owned caverns are a must-see if you are anywhere in the vicinity. We are already planning our next trip! The giftshop is wonderful and full of gems to remember your trip by, a true giftshop for the caverns without all of the commercial products. Truly a gem!

I have visited a few caves in Texas. Caves sizes have varied from quite large enough to fully enclose a large two floor home, and small enough to require the low ceiling crab walk towards a roomy hollow sphere below street level.
The Cave without a Name us quite spectacular. There are 3 a joining chambers about 150 meters long in total. High ceilings and incredible rock formations. A few local Bats hanging about, no cave crickets or spiders that I could see.
100% humidity and 66 degrees Fahrenheit make for a cool visit or warm visit depending on travel date.
The Cave Without a Name is a must do for any explorer and you leave knowing that what you just viewed may be just the beginning of more to see as braver souls plunge into the nooks, crawl spaces and watery paths to uncover yet to be explored connections.

This place is unbelievable! it is amazing what's underneath your feet. The guides were great! we had a blast highly recommend to anybody who wants to see under the ground

By heather s |

What a neat tour of the cave. Mike was an entertaining guide and gave great commentary throughout the tour. I would recommend the tour for anyone visiting Boerne!

By JodiCowgirl |

We had a wonderful drive down winding backroads from 281 through Kendalia. When we arrived, we noticed how clean and orderly everything was. The guide, who I'm guessing is a retired Geologist, asked us to be aware we needed to climb 8 stories back out of the cave before going in. No problem.
The stairwell done was exceptionally well lit and clean.
Learned a great deal. Took amazing photos. Would love to attend a music concert in the cave considering the acoustics down in there. (110' below surface)
Well worth the drive out.
Fascinating.

Loved our visit to Cave Without a Name. Not crowded or rushed. Beautiful formations with lots of variety. If there was any drawback, you could spend a few hours down there looking at all the different types. Definitely recommend.

By Duke1424 |

Not as big as the Sonora Caverns or some withers others but a great place to explore none the less. We had a great guide and found some breathtaking beauty in the caves. Quick and easy tour but worth it to check out some really old stalagmites and Mother Nature ar her best.

By dc1scsi |

Only 126 steps to the cave floor, smooth walking from there on through the cave. There is one large long room with plenty of stalagmites and stalactites. A great way to spend part of your afternoon, if you like caves.

By Doug G |

A ways out into the countryside - watch out for deer.
We were the only visitors there so our tour with Jessie started immediately. Jessie was very knowledgeable and very easy to understand. Large chambers once you descend the stairs. The variety of formations were highlighted with strategic lighting enhancing the tour. Strongly recommend.

By Dashecky123 |

They had music in the cave... if you go to an event plan to arrive NLT 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Pick up your tickets in the office before you get in line.

By jimmanddawnp |

My expectations were not high, the entry fee of $20 kind of scared me.Once the hour or so tour started and we walked down the 126 steps our fascination grew for this stunning place!

By Heather V |

This was a beautiful cave. It was about a 45 minute tour, not too strenuous. Our guide Steve was funny and very informative. It’s nice to have a guide who you can tell loves the history and science behind their tour!

By Jacqueline B |

We visited the cave on a Tuesday morning and we were the only visitors. We had a great tour and our tour guide was excellent. The cave is beautiful, as are the grounds above it.

By Relax705488 |

Wonderful guided tour by Caroline, very informative with a lot of fun stories, history and her experiences. All the staff were very friendly and an all around great experience. Highly recommended.

By love2go2015 |

We really enjoyed one of the programs in the Cave while visiting the area in our RV. Check the schedule for special events & give it a try! It's a really fun way to see some of the cave & hear a good concert.

By Karavans |

This cave tour is worth the trouble of finding it. Allow a half hour of travel time from Boerne and plan on a full hour underground. Cave is much larger and more beautiful than we expected, and the tour guide was both professional and interesting. Access requires going down and climbing back up 130(?) stair steps, but the actual cave is spacious with plenty headroom and no tight spaces. This cave seems to display all the features of any cave we've visited previously, and is a great family outing.

By Dianna G |

Interesting tour. She turned off all the lights and it was darker than dark. The climb up the stairs where a little taxing.

By Karen B |

This cave is well worth a visit. I saw formations that I have never seen before, and I have visited caves all over the world. The 'bacon' was amazing. I arrived 20 minutes after the last tour left, but Mike took me down anyway and gave me a private tour. His enthusiasm for the cave, its formations, its history, and its conservation was infectious.

Took a family trip to Austin with a day trip out to San Antonio. Along the way, we stopped at the Cave Without a Name and we are SO happy that we did! This was an absolutely unexpectedly pleasant adventure and has been our favorite part of our trip so far. Steve was our tour guide and he made it so fun. It is obvious that he loves giving these tours and it seems like he finds the cave as magical as he probably found it the first time he ever experienced it. The cave was far bigger than any of us imagined. The formations are stunning and mind boggling and we loved learning about everything from Steve :) We HIGHLY recommend the guided tour. You will not be disappointed :)

This little out of the way adventure is a must while visiting Boerne! The cave is no Carlsbad, but is a beautiful example of nature at work. It is a small family owned business that you will find to be very affordable and well worth your time. Very fine family outing.

By K J |

I had a friend visiting from Germany, and we spent a full day seeing the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. This included an hour-long tour of this stunning show cave, which my friend really loved. It is not the biggest cave in Texas, but it is one of the prettiest, and a different view of the state than most visitors expect. Recent rains also added to the moisture in this living cave, making it all the more spectacular. We were in a tour with a family from Europe, and young and old from near and far all enjoyed this natural wonder.

By Lisa W |

My children and I really enjoyed our time here. This place is outside of Boerne and definitely worth your time. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and they have
a cute little gift shop.

By LizHamilton1001 |

Wow what a great find. This campground had hardly anybody here for the 2-nights I stayed. There were deer, wild turkeys visiting daily and the place is so quiet. The stars at night are amazing and I loved the well marked walking trail through the trees. The best part though are the caves. You cannot believe that just below your feet are these huge cavernous caves that are just beautiful. The one hour plus tour is well worth $20 tour fee. Check out their website for the concert series, I was sorry I missed that because the tickets were all sold out.

By Madzech |

I brought my teenagers on this tour and they thought it was very very cool! The tour was well done and loaded with fun facts. There is a river running through this cave that leads to other unexplored areas!!! Easy to recommend this tour!! Well worth the money!!

By Morgann G |

I've been to a few caves, thus far this was one of my favorites. I'm sure a lot has to do with how great your tour guide is. Ours (I believe his name was Jeff) was phenomenal. Super knowledgeable and handled all of my mum's questions with ease. The cave was pretty impressive as well. Definitely recommend if you are a Cave dweller, lol.

By John D |

Attended a concert this past weekend in the Cave Without a Name. A 20 minute drive out of Boerne but well worth the effort. Beautiful scenery, so dark the stars overwhelm you. This was part of a concert series, so call ahead or go online to check it out. Spent $50. Per person, for the incredible concert, and a dinner with wine before the show. Wine was very good, food was passable but the show in this incredible cavern makes this a must see. Go early and enjoy the beauty.

By Majestic222 |

Excellent visit. Everyone should take the drive to see these five rooms. The guided tour takes about an hour. Our guide, Patty, was a geologist and very knowledgeable. Tour times are not set so there might be a wait until they get enough people but it's worth it. Please note you come back up the way you go down, 8 flights of stairs.

By Vanessa R |

Great experience, whole family loved it wonderful opportunity for some amazing pictures. It’s a worth while experience for sure.

By Misty T |

Kathryn was our tour guide and she was amazing! The cave is a sight to see! Don't let this gem get lost in your trip. It is a must see if you love caves!

By EagleTravel29 |

We had a wonderful tour on misty day. Tour is a nice length of about an hour. Would love to return and hear a concert in the cave they have from time to time. Highly recommend this cave. The tour guide was friendly, informative, but not overly so and really showed he cared for the cave and telling people about it.

By Rita K |

This is a wonderful place to go with or without kids. There are other caves in the area but this one has never been crowded and is beautifully kept up. My kids have gone multiple times and never get tired of it. Would highly recommend.

By Denise H |

Our youth choir group loved visiting the Cave Without a Name! Kyle was an excellent, knowledgeable tour guide, and we learned a lot about the cave’s formation and history. They also enthusiastically allowed us to sing in their underground performance space, and the acoustics were incredible. Once the kids start singing, it’s hard to get them to stop, but Kyle was very patient with us. Thank you for a great visit!- MDUMC Agape Singers

By Terry P |

This cave is out of the way but worth the effort to find. This cave has a number of large rooms with unusual formations worth the time to see. The steps and cave floor is wet so good shoes are recommended. Once you are down into the cave, there are no additional inclines or declines of any size. Mike gave the history and current situation of the cave and was helpful with the formations. This cave was a pleasant surprise and well worth the time if you are in the area.

By Scott B |

Incredible tour. One of the best cave experiences we’ve ever had.
Very easy access once you get down. The walk back up was a challenge for some, but well worth the effort!

By GenoK |

We originally planned to stop at nearby Cascade Caverns but it was closed due to flooding. The lady there told us about the nearby CWAN so we went there instead. The tour was great, the cave was alive with some of the largest formations I have seen. The guide was very informative about the history of the cave and answered all questions about the cave. We went right after school was out for the summer so there were only about 10 people on the tour. Highly recommended! The entrance and exit is via 126 stair steps so get in shape!

By Sylvia S |

I highly recommend this tour. Alex was very friendly, knowledgeable and answered every question. We enjoyed learning interesting history of this cave. 1 hour is perfect and the fee is also reasonable. The kids in our group were mesmerized by the surroundings and the stories. I was impressed how much they were interested and how well they all behaved. Do not miss this Texas gem!
