My favorite part of Niagara Falls

By Brian M |

I loved this attraction, it was so close to the Falls, water running over your feet, falling above you and swirling around. I felt like I was in the Falls! Don’t miss this. (Does require walking up and down a lot of stairs, a bit slippery)

Thank you Kira

By Adrianna |

My tour guide Kira was amazing tour guide. she made she made the experience rememberable on the tour of the lantern tour of haunted cave.

Fall of the winds.

By Abraham d |

A different interesting view of the falls. Acces was orderly and the lifts personnel kind and positively focused on tourists questions.

Highlight of our trip!!!

By aaronkris |

This was an awesome experience!! You get to go right next to American Falls and Bridal falls in Niagara. The sounds, gushing water and mist are incredible. Prepared to get wet! They give you a rain poncho and water sandals. When we were there I saw some people taking babies/toddlers in a chest carrier or holding them. The kids were terrified and screaming. This is not an event they would like. I would say ages 3 and older.

Here's what to expect

By Barbara W |

We had no idea what to expect or what this actually was. Actually went only because it seemed so popular. You first go into a theater type room with displays showing the history and photos of the falls, information about Nikolas Tesla, etc. Then you go into a room where you are provided sandals and ponchos. (good idea to carry a plastic bag with you to put your shoes in and then either put them in a backpack or, just before you get near the falls there is a bench you can leave them at). Then you do down an elevator and then an outdoor path and THEN...there are a series of wooden stairs and different levels you climb up and down stairs to get different vantage points of the falls. The steps are wet and you do have to be careful. NOTE I did not see or hear anything prior to paying about people with mobility issues but I think people should know that it would not be good for anyone with mobility or balance issues. At one point in the stair/level climbing you get close to the falls and your feet/legs get wet almost to your knees. All in all it was worth it if you want to actually get that close and feel the water.

Well run & amazing experience!

By Lindsey J |

Cave of the Winds was amazing! I went on a solo trip and this place didn’t disappoint! The video at the beginning was very informative and interesting. The interaction with the staff along the way was pleasant and helpful. I loved getting to walk on the “Hurricane Deck” and getting to see the falls up close and personal. Getting soaked underneath the falls is an experience I’ll never forget! 😊

A must!

By fnaturtles |

Your shoes will get wet, like soaking wet!! It is expensive for what you get but it is amazing. The experience for my kids (17, 16, 11 yrs old) was great. One of the favorite things we did on our vacation.

Under the waterfall

By Samuel Pasaribu |

It was really an amazing experience to watch the waterfall just beside and under it. The view of the river from here also different. And we could see the Horseshoe Fall from here.

Feel the awesome power of the Falls

By Michael A |

One of the coolest experiences you can do. This as close to Niagara Falls as you can get. One of the platforms is just below Bridal Veil Falls. You can feel the power of the falls up close.

A Unique Experience to Do Once in a Lifetime

By HeardItBothWays |

My husband and I visited Cave of the Winds on our recent trip to Niagara Falls. We were excited to visit, as this is one of the Niagara Falls "staples," and it's definitely a must-see!

The process of getting to the Cave of the Winds is a bit frustrating. Parking was a bit of a nightmare (though, at least the parking for this and Maid of the Mist are in the same park so you don't need to pay twice if you move your car) but we managed to get a spot. You cannot buy tickets in advance so it makes the entire experience feel touristy and unpleasant. You wait in a line to get tickets, then you need to wait for your time to be called to go wait in another line, then you wait on yet a third line to get down to the elevators then to get a poncho. After the experience, you wait in a line in the tunnel to get back up the elevator. It just really takes you out of the experience of enjoying nature when you're waiting in lines like you're in Disney!

The experience itself was amazing and a lot of fun. You can get as wet or stay as dry as you want by just choosing the platforms (or side of the platform) you prefer. We wore water-friendly sandals and opted to get quite wet, which we think added to the fun. The view of the falls up close, as well as the Canadian Falls and the marine life, were really impressive.

Though entry is timed, no one rushes you through the experience so you can enjoy it as long as you want. We took this one very slowly to explore every corner of the walkways and all of the views.

It was $19 per person, which we thought was reasonable for the experience (and it included the poncho that kept our clothes and electronics dry).

I wish this place were more organized but I'd still definitely recommend a trip!

Great even in the winter!

By Amy G |

Low crowds in the winter and the snow/ice is gorgeous to see in the falls! My kids and I loved it! Such a unique experience.

Early in the season problem?

By Rose B |

We had read and been told that we would get a poncho and sandles to wear. When my son bought our tickets, he was told they did not have either one. Needless to say, we got soaked.
If we had known this we would have kept our Main of the Mist ponchos from the day before. As for the actual experience, it was mind blowing. Would like to do it again when the hurrican deck is open,

WOW!

By Susan M |

This was an awesome experience being so close to the falls. There was a chance to see the bottom of the falls, large boulders, etc. I would recommend pressure washing the walkway.

Amazing

By SharonBarling_Ar |

It's wet and a little slippery. However, we stayed on the lower deck. It's worth the visit. It is amazing to stand between the two waterfalls. There are a lot of steps, however handicapped people can find ways around this.

Cool experience

By Beck |

Loooooong lines but sooooooo worth it! I could not imagine going on a cold day, but on a hot day it was so amazing!! My whole family really enjoyed the experience. Don't wear shoes that can't get wet :)

Day at Niagra Falls

By Ric A |

There are many places to view Niagra Falls. None better than the Cave of the Winds experience! You WILL GET WET! The power of the falls is IMPRESSIVE and you will be right underneath them! You'll be given a poncho. That will keep part of you dry. I'd recommend wearing sandals or boat shoes as your feet will definitely get wet. I think this is a better experience than the Maid of the Mist. You'll be climbing wooden stairs. So if that's a problem be aware. This is handicapped accessible. To get down to below the falls you'll be taking an elevator. Pictures and video are a must. be careful holding your phone or camera. Again you WILL GET WET.

Tour Guide Olive

By Danielle G |

We had Olive as a tour guide! She was super knowledgeable and her dad jokes were lovely! She is very quick to answer questions! Very great with the kids on the tour!

Power and beauty

By BosleyJay |

Nothing fancy, but the power and awe of Mother Nature with a close up and personal view of the force of nature. Quite an experience to be right where the force of water pours over the ledge and onto the rocks.

Fell (in love) with this experience!

By Yoda S |

This was easily my favorite experience from my trip to Niagara Falls, NY. The views walking even just ALONG the falls was amazing, breath-taking, but to be able to go up some stairs and stand there, side by side, with the spray of the water just cascading my direction... That was heaven on Earth. If you want an amazing drench, go to the Hurricane Deck. It's wild fun, and you're not coming out of there dry haha... I loved it at Cave of the Winds and would do this experience a million times more.

Wet and windy

By Stellan D |

You will get plastic ponchos before walsking around this area but still expect to get wet. However you can get very close to the falls and feel the energy of the falling water

A Fun experience

By Jo S |

You will get wet, but it's worth it to stand at the base of Bridal Veil fall. A totally different view of the falls! Go early to avoid lines.

Family visit

By Angela W |

We had such a great time but your employee at the exit on July 7 2023 at around 1:30 was a real jerk rushing people through. Maybe train your employees to be a little more people friendly. Other than that it was amazing!!

Awesome.

By 280phillipk1949 |

It was fun walking up the boardwalk getting many perspectives of the thundering American Falls! Getting wet within the mist of the Falls was only part of the fun!

gorgeous

By Brenda B |

beautiful and easy to get too and a wonderful video beforehand, once in a lifetime and well worth it trip

too short, awesome time

By John A |

"over the falls" and our guide Edwardo made the falls a much better experience, well worth the price

Didn’t happen and didn’t get a refund

By Pam P |

I used Get Your Guide to book this tour which I found here on TripAdvisor. They canceled the tour because of fog. It is one month later and I have still not received a refund. I have called called I have emailed I’ve messaged them on Facebook. I spoke with them directly and I got the runaround saying that the activity provider had not canceled the tour and therefore they could not provide my refund so the person who took my money cannot provide my refund.

Brilliant cave of the winds

By Basiltom1 |

Brilliant best thing to do on either side of Niagara USA or Canada.
Couldn't believe how close to the falls you get hurricane deck in unbelievable👍👍

Great way to experience the Falls up close.

By BuckeyeTraveler123 |

LOVED this. It was my favorite activity. Not only are the views amazing, but it was fun to "play" in the water. Seeing the Falls from this view was really cool. I would love to do this activity again.

Great experience

By LoriAnn717 |

What a great time of year to visit - no lines!! The wind/water got a bit much for us so we did not want to go to the very top landing. Tip: we waited a few minutes at the side of a lower landing, the wind subsided, and it was super easy to go to the top!
The yellow poncho's provided aren't that great. Although we did not do the Maid of the Mist, if you do, keep those blue ones to wear during this activity.

Such power and beauty.

By Greg Y |

You really get a feel for the awesome power and beauty of the Falls as you get up close and experience all it has to offer.

A little disappointed for the price paid

By Clémence M |

I was there at the end of November, maybe not the best time of the year, for sure. I paid $14 to go down an elevator and walk a few hundred meters at the foot of the falls, because it was already the season to dismantle the facilities for the winter. So I found the experience a bit expensive, although nice nonetheless.

Definitely do this tour! Worth the $20

By John M |

Do this over the tunnel on the American side - this gets you up close and personal! Wear water shoes.

Not To Be Missed

By fiamma11 |

So close to the falls, this is an extraordinary opportunity, simply not to be missed. Make this your first choice in Niagara.

Some crazy fun!

By disneygrandmama |

Well, we just had to do it! Going “into” Niagara Falls is just something you need to do once. We had so much fun acting like crazy kids running under the water. The price was reasonable for the experience!

Interesting

By TravelingBum10 |

It cost money to take the elevator down to this area. You can stand there and feel the falls on you. You can watch the maiden get close to the falls

Must do attraction

By superross |

Must do destination for people who have come to see Niagara Falls.
Would recommend coming 3 minutes before slot and go to buy tickets early as the queues can get long.
The experience starts with a short video about the history of the falls and then led down an elevator to the base of the falls. From there you are given a poncho ( it doesn’t help ) and are free to walk around the different decks and can virtually stand under the falls.
I would recommend wearing sandals, sliders or taking your shoes off before walking on the decks because by the end they will be soaked.

Excellent

By Juan R |

It is worth this tour, we wanted to get on the boat but they didn't let us because we had a pet and it was this option I think even better!!!

Great experience!

By Mary D |

So much fun! They give you shoes and ponchos and you take an elevator down to the bottom of falls. There was no trash on the walk way, but tons of seagulls. It did smell a bit. You get soaked while on the hurricane deck. I highly recommend!

Very Fun Tour

By M L |

Wonderful tour and great fun! Had never been on Maid of the Mist before and it was awesome. Our tour guide Selen was so friendly, informative, and funny. The tour is limited to 7 people so you get a very personal experience. The little extra you pay to go on this tour is worth it. You don’t have to worry about finding parking or waiting in lines. You get preferential treatment and go to the head of the lines at all the attractions. I would definitely book another tour with TripShepherd. Highly recommend this tour and company.

Worth the money!

By TeamR |

Tip--go over early and get your tickets for later in the day. No standing in line for tickets early. We got soaked!

so so so beautiful

By Tanya Dick |

Wish I had know just how wet I would get and that the poncho fit plus siza better. Went here as a tour and it was awesome.

Know before you go.

By Leza L |

While the falls are amazing and the story behind the walkways is interesting, they aren’t accessible all the time so I would verify before you go. They were in the process of putting them back up which was cool to see but we could only go so far.

Literally bird sh**!

By André |

The view is decent as you can see in the photos, but the area is full of seagulls and the smell of their feces is unbearable. Just got back to the elevator as fast as I could. Would not go there for free.

Fun & Rainbows

By ThaiBlu |

Fun experience.Great for everyone. We were a couple and in our tour were children and older folks and everyone enjoyed it. You are able to get close to the falls and really feel the power. They provide a poncho and sandals, I also wore a light hooded raincoat underneath and still got a little wet. The sandals are great because other wise you would have to walk in soaked shoes afterwards. Also the sandals have grip for walking up the stairs with wet surfaces.
It was also birthing season for the birds, we were told because there are no natural predators on the rocks so seeing the baby chicks was an added bonus.

Wet

By michaelmcfadden |

Prepared to get wet on this amazing must-see view at Niagra Falls along the United States side. Requires paid entry

Must try it

By LESA H |

This was a stop on our tour . I had seen videos and was most worried about the hurricane deck. My apprehension disappeared quickly once I got up there and under the falls. It was truly the best experience of our whole vacation.

Bring dry shoes….

By Bill15Q |

Best part of our visit. Quick tip, the ponchos they give you are like hospital gowns. They give the illusion of being covered, but they don’t do much. Expect to get wet…. If you stay late, especially in August-Sept, you’ll have cold wet feet and you’ll be a special kind of miserable. Bring towels and dry shoes…

Totally worth it!

By badgergirls |

You will get wet, but the experience is worth it entirely! A poncho may help but the water is just pouring on you. Embrace it and take it in. A once in a lifetime experience! You are right at the base of Bridal Veil Falls.

Great experience

By Scott |

Being that close to the falls and feeling the power of it was an amazing experience. We loved it and hope to go again some day.

Fun time

By maryg59_13 |

the cave are a must do thing, feel the force of the water, refreshing as well, wow I can't believe the feeling when your standing there , it breathtaking

Feel the power of the Falls

By David C |

The experience is awesome, you basically get as close to being under one of the waterfalls as is possible without being crushed. You really feel the power of nature. Be prepared to get soaked! I felt the queueing system was not as efficient as it could be but don’t let that stop the enjoyment.

Prepare to get wet!

By Wendy M |

This attraction is a great close up look at the Falls. The steps to the upper level are actually in the flow of the Bridal Veil Falls! Got wet feet but it was an exciting experience.

My top pick for a Niagara Falls experience

By Stardust86 |

This feels like an absolute must do if you want the Niagara Falls experience. The boat rides are iconic for sure, so I would do that too - but honestly I enjoyed this more than the boat ride itself. And though most of the fun stuff around Niagara is on the Canadian side - this one experience all by itself makes it worth a trip to the American side if your in the area anyway.

I did a lot of research before visiting - and I'm glad I did because I kept seeing people kind of implying Cave of the Winds is similar to Journey Behind The Falls on the Canadian side - and it isn't remotely the same experience. If you want to see what it looks like behind a waterfall - do Journey Behind The Falls. But it...looks like water...I honestly would skip that one if we come back one day. Its not all that exciting.

If you want to feel what a waterfall feels like - if you want to be IN the waterfall. This is the activity.

You are going to get wet - so if that isn't your cup of tea, skip this. You'll be mad. But if you bring water shoes, and come when its warm out - this experience is amazing. You just honestly don't get the power of the falls any other way.

That said, we visited end of Aug on a somewhat cool day right after a pretty long heat wave. So we didn't experience much of a line or wait at all...I think because people we're worried it would be too cold. It was perfect for my 6 year old and I. She isn't a big fan of lines and waiting, so I'm glad we lucked into the weather we had. A cooler warm day seems to be the right time to visit to avoid long lines.

We also actually quite enjoyed the little "pre-show", with history about the falls. Learning about the restoration and conservation of the area was pretty cool. And I liked the old-timey presentation.

Close Encounters of the Falls - A Can't Miss Experience!!!

By L C |

This is a can't miss experience!!! Prepare to get soaked, but do not miss this opportunity to get up close and personal with the falls! It is an awesome thing to see so close. We did it as part of a tour, and I'm glad they did this as the last stop because we really did get soaked. The rain poncho helped, but you will get very wet. We booked our tour with Over the Falls Tours, and Marty was our guide - he was fantastic!!!! He was very informative and so funny. He made it such an enjoyable experience. Do yourself a favor and book a tour with Over The Falls - you won't be disappointed.

What Fun!

By Debra Carral |

We visited Cave of the Winds while on a tour. The movie they show about the history of the Falls is interesting. It can get a little overwhelming because they have several different screens showing different things at the same time while you’re listening to the story. Movement of people through the lines was efficient and easy. The Hurricane Deck was so much fun!

The most awesome adventure in Niagara Falls

By kratos2057 |

Of all the activities that there are in the Niagara Falls area this is going to be the best and most fun activity of all. Yes, you will get soaked and you will love every minute of it.

Exciting

By yellowrosesbutrfly |

We were so excited to go to the Cave of the Winds, dressed in our rain coats, and awesome shoes. Getting up close to the American Falls is spectacular. A must see.

Cave of the Winds in April

By Charlie A |

Cave of the Winds was great. We rode an elevator 175 feet deep into the Niagara Gorge. It gets you up-close to the falls. We were there in early April and there was ice and snow on the water. That was fascinating. I highly recommend this wonderful attraction.

awesome experience

By YaniC |

This was one of the best experiences we've had. worth it for all. you can go at your pace and you can take pictures.

Batten down the hatches!!

By Linda N |

Absolutely great. The best part of our falls trip. As we climbed the stairs to the Hurricane Winds Deck, the falls were a mere 6ft away as they rushed past us. You will get soaked to the bone, even with the rain poncho, if you go all the way onto the deck, but it’s worth it.

The power of nature

By Curtis P |

You have to go see this if you're at Niagara Falls You definitely will get so conveyed but you will see the power of nature lock never before

Great thrill for water lovers

By Scubagal |

We loved this so much but we are water lovers! Tip: wear water shoes such as Keen’s. Then you don’t have to walk around all day in wet shoes. The amount of seagulls nesting on the rocks near the falls fascinated me. It was raining the day we went so we were already prepared with rain gear.

Definitely do this!!!

By justme2ooo |

So much fun!!!

If you go to Niagara Falls you have to do this!!!

You get absolutely soaked but it’s totally worth it!

So beautiful!

So cool to see the Falls from below!

A must when visiting!

Holy Seagull Crap!

By 1177Mike |

Nice views of the falls from the American side. Beware hundreds of seagulls are in the area as well as flying around. If u like the smell of seagull poop and don’t mind some mess in the walkways as well as the risk of a “dropping” that may land on you then this is a tour for you.

Amazing birthday surprise for my wife's birthday

By Rhan A |

We live in VA and I took my wife on a surprise trip to Niagara Falls for her birthday mid-October.
Not sure what the weather was going to be like, I purchased us full rain suits for $14.99 instead of using the ponchos they give you.
I also had a small backpack under it with extra pairs of dry socks and shoes as we did the Maid of the Mist and the Cave of the Winds. She said it was amazing.

Amazing Experience

By Natalie P |

Unique and exciting experience. The hurricane deck is a once in a lifetime experience taking you right up to the falls. Not for individuals who have mobility issues, deck is safe but wet and slippery in spots.

Excitement for Children and Adults

By BLMerce |

We had so much fun climbing with our grandchildren up the staircase to experience the Falls. Be advised you must carry your shoes so a backpack would be helpful. Roll up your pants as they will get wet.

You will be soaked!

By Luv2tvl |

A fun time. Really cool to see the falls up close. All of you will be soaked. Plan accordingly. There is a parking lot nearby so can have spare clothes or shoes in the car.

Stunning views of the falls.

By Álvaro Pérez |

A fantastic complement to the boat visit to Niagara Falls. There is a previous explanation and video. Access to the falls is spectacular.

Nice View

By Connie Y |

They were already dismantling the platform when we arrived on October 25 so be sure to check that out before you go. I wish they would have told us that.

A fun, wet adventure!

By KCJ44 |

My husband and I went on this adventure during our vacation in August. We had so much fun and being that close to Bridal Falls was worth it! Seeing how fast and strong the falls come down is a sight to see. We didn’t care if we got soaked ( only our hair, face and tennis shoes because we had a poncho on). They give you a poncho, if you’d like to wear one, but you’ll still get wet. The fun is saying you got a shower from Niagara Falls. If you don’t care to get wet, don’t pay to go on this. There is a fee and the tickets are time stamped so when you purchase them, they’ll let you know what time slot you have. It was a hot day so we were happy to get a mid afternoon time slot.

Splashy and FUN!

By Maryann A |

Best Experience out there and the closest you'll get to the Falls. You certainly will get wet (they supply the poncho). However it's good to have waterproof shoes. They will get wet- guaranteed. There is a video before hand and I felt it was well worth the money. I loved the NY Side of Niagara - parking is cheaper and they have a trolly. It's a more natural experience with the Falls and you can get closer up. Yes, do a "drive by" on the Canadian side to see the sweeping view - but that's all you need. It's a ZOO on the Canadian side.

Great experience

By redsail24 |

We stumbled upon this and was glad we did. What a fun experience to be on different areas of the falls. We did get soaked, standing right under the falls. Some areas were congested, but for the most part you could walk at your pace.

OK for a different perspective

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

Unfortunately in late April this was the only attraction open on the US side (Maid of the Mist boats were not operating yet).
The journey down to the bottom of the falls is interesting, but nothing extraordinary.
15 years ago we visited the Canadian side and I still remember how far better and more interesting were the Canadian side attractions - better viewpoints and the walk behind the Falls.

The most awesome experience!

By Y G |

Our class loved and enjoyed every second of this place! We had a wonderful experience and the staff were really accommodating! Thank you!

Clean and clear cascades

By dagodfrey64 |

This was a great way to cool off on a hot and humid day. Nice, not too difficult, hike right up to the falls. It was an emotional experience, looking up at the falls while they cascaded over me. We were supposed to travel there in 2017, but we lost my mom that year and I just couldn't manage it. This trip served as a catharsis for me and an important fulfillment of a promise I had made to the girls. I'm so glad we finally made it. This and the Maid of the Mist tour made it an experience of a lifetime.

Lantern Tour is fun & spo0o0ky (try to get Regan as your tour guide)

By Sophie H |

The haunted lantern tour was one of our favorite moments of our visit to Colorado Springs. We laughed, we gasped, I only let out one muffled scream, and my husband only cried a little bit 😝

Regan was our tour guide and very enthusiastic and passionate - she absolutely made the tour engaging and fun. Whatever you’re paying her isn’t enough!! Thanks Regan!

Fun and exhilarating experience

By Annie Cacheiro |

Fun and exhilarating experience for our whole family. Worth the money for a few minutes to experience the force of the falls. Definitely got wert even though we had on the ponchos.

Exhilarating Experience

By Babu2773 |

No lines. Being soaked by magnificent rushing water roaring inches from you. Laughing at how much everyone is laughing at being soaked and really loving it. What is not to love about Cave of the Winds? Sure, there is no cave any longer, which the history on the website explains, but who cares? Perhaps the summer experience with long lines would be frustrating, but that shouldn't take away from the power of the falls sharing its strength with you. Be prepared though. The business no longer provides waterproof bags or flipflops, so plan to keep your things in your own bags, and be prepared to be soaked. We brought raincoats from home, used the Maid of the Mist poncho, and topped it off with the Cave of the Winds' poncho. Our waterproof shoes were soaked, as were our faces, but the rest of us was dry. You will ride an elevator down to the platform after watching a short history movie, and then start your hike up wooden stairs and platforms to reach the hurricane deck where you can enjoy a fantastic soaking. If you don't want to be soaked, scoot over to the right where you can take pictures and are minimally sprayed. Cave of the Winds is exhilarating and a must-do if you don't mind getting soaked. Try to go off-high season, if you can.

Amazing

By Colleen C |

Never saw so many sea gulls.....this tour should always be done with maid of the mist. Viewing the falls from this angle is a must see.

Incredible experiance

By DONNACU |

Really got wet....best part of the American side. Will go again and bring my granddaughters. Must do...lots of stairs and walking. Wear the right shoes.

Wonderful experience

By Tracie P |

A must see on a trip to Niagara Falls. You do get very close to the falls so I recommend a rain jacket to wear in addition to the poncho they give to visitors.

Wild Tour

By LovetotravelDunbar |

This part of the tour was included with our Over the Falls Tour. I wasn't sure exactly what it would be but you definitely get wet!! We loved it and we laughed so hard when the water would come shooting over the rails!!

Kids loved it!

By Abby K |

We took our kids (ages 6 and 9) and all enjoyed the experience. One thing to note, this is not a cave anymore (once was many years ago) but rather a leveled staircase that allows you to get very close to Bridal Veil Falls. You will get very wet - they provide ponchos but they are definitely not adequate. We wore raincoats, rain pants, and flipflops under the ponchos and then kept them on for Maid of the Mist, which worked well. I would definitely Cave of the Winds, especially if visiting with kids! Also recommend getting there at 8:30 - it's timed entry and this will allow you to get on one of the first tours before the tour buses and field trips arrive.

Cave of the Winds

By katie126 |

Went with our 8 & 10 year olds and we all loved it! Get your tickets early in the morning to get your pick of times. We had 9:36am tickets, and loved that it wasn’t nearly as crowded as we noticed later in the day. If you have water shoes, those are perfect. You want something that can keep you steady on the wet, slippery decks and stairs, but not running shoes and socks-your feet will get soaked!

As others have said, you’ll get so wet even with the poncho. As you get closer to the falls, gathering the poncho at the neck helped us stay a little drier. The hurricane deck is an amazing experience, but not something you have to do if you have some skittish people with you. Once you’re on the decks, you can stay for as little or long as you like-it’s truly magical!

Also-because we went earlier in the morning, we kept dry sweatshirts in the car to put on after-being wet that early can be chilly!

Cave of the Winds is a great way to get up close to the base of the falls (American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls

By sanju_222323 |

Cave of the Winds is a great way to get up close to the base of the falls (American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls) without getting on a boat After taking an elevator 175 feet down into the Niagara Gorge, you'll be able to roam a series of wooden walkways that put you within feet of the Bridal Veil Falls. It's called the "Hurricane Deck," for its constant state of stormy conditions, the wooden platform stands only 20 feet from the tumbling water of Bridal Veil Falls.

Even with the souvenir poncho, you'll likely get wet. You will be given a ponchos and souvenir sandals - a must for anyone who doesn't want to spend the rest of the day in soggy shoes

Cave of the Winds is on Goat Island. You'll need to walk out onto Goat Island and buy your tickets at the Cave of the Winds Plaza. This is a timed admission ticket, so do this first, and if you have to wait around, you can explore the other sights in this area. An elevator will take you down to the base for this experience.

Very wet but quite an experience.

By Colin G |

We had seen people down near the water when visiting before so this time gave it a go, the wind from the north meant that we felt like walking through a rainstorm and got very wet from the knees down but the experience was good. At this time of year the rocks down to the water were covered in Seagull nests with hundreds of fluffy chicks.

Pretty nice

By Adeline S |

The winds were harsh I could continue half way through but I had to. The sight was awesome but if you do this please bring water prof shoes and don’t bother wearing socks they will get soaked there’s not a part of your body that won’t.

Winter wonderland

By sarahlansdale |

Amazing in winter! Ice formations under and around the falls were really cool (and there were no crows) Even the teenager was impressed.

What an adventure

By Jennifer T |

Absolutely A-Ma-Zing. Possibly the best adventure we've been on. Great value for money and everyone so helpful and friendly. Great experience.

Classic Niagara

Classic Niagara activity. There isn’t much to do in that town but this is definitely the best. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet, they will get wet.

Disapointing and misleading

By bowhunterups |

The Cave of the winds was not what I expected. I along with several other people I talked to thought that you went into cave that came out right behind the falls. This really isn't the case. The tunnel / cave comes out beside the falls then you walk on a series of decks and steps near the falls on the outside. You can get drenching wet if you wish and you can get close to the water. Before you start you watch a short film about Westinghouse and Telsa and the birth or our power system. I'm a history buff so I knew most of the information in the film and it was interesting but it was a waste of time for people wanting to just go to the falls. At $19 a person this tour was not worth the money. Perhaps at a $10 or less price point sure I'd do it but not at $19

Better than Canadian side

By ssusanw210 |

I have done both sides of Cave of the winds and this is better than Canada. This was not really a 'cave' other than walking through an underground walkway. This offered many many steps but got you literally under the water and offered fantastic views of birds, rocks, and waterfalls. You will get very wet and it can be a little slippery.

Worth the Walk

By Tonya R |

I was worried that doing so many stairs would be difficult for me but It was fine. There are lots of stairs but so many places to pause and enjoy that they were completely manageable. I'm so glad I didn't miss this incredible experience.

Up close and personal!

By Adrienne A |

A once in a lifetime experience!! Perfect for our family, with a wide range of kids ages 2-12. We got totally soaked getting up close and personal with the falls! What a way to experience this national treasure! There are places where you can stand if you don't want to get totally drenched. We wore quick drying sandals, but others wore water shoes or just went barefoot. The line moves quickly too, which was great for the young ones. The informational movie at the beginning was unexpected and super interesting! Go on a sunny day so you can capture all the rainbows!

Up close and personal!

By 465DENNISJ |

This was part of our Over the Falls tour. I'm really glad this was part of it. It was really neat to get so close to Bridal Veil Falls. Also, the story of the 10's of thousands of birds nesting on the shoreline was very interesting. To think that many, if not all will migrate back to the Atlantic by late June or July. Recommend.

Don't miss it!

By ladydonnadonna |

This was such a unique and such a great experience. Yes, you get wet but it's so worth it. Just do it!

A MUST

By Kristen W |

This was my favorite part of the tour. I loved every second of it. You have to plan to get wet (feet soaked, LOL) but so worth it. The beauty is breathtaking

A True Senses Adventure

By Deborah S |

The view was amazing. You use your senses-we could feel and smell the wind, the mist was hitting us (you could taste it) in the face, we reached over to touch the water, and the roar of the water was deafing. We enjoyed this excursion.

Beautiful Pros and Cons

By Rob B |

It is October 28th 2022 and we bought our tickets at 9:44am. It is a beautiful cool, (my wife would say cold) morning. Pros, no lines walked right in, and the only ones on the decks. Cons…we were told we’d only be able to do half the tour since they are on winter hours. They were dismantling the hurricane and upper decks, so we didn’t get as close to the Dallas as we could have, which was fine because the second con is we didn’t get any rain ponchos…so if you come late…bring your own poncho. I just don’t think you can ever give lower than a 4 star review for such beauty and power of nature!!

Not worth it in early spring- you don't get the full experience.

By Rachael K |

All I can say is not to go in April. We were expecting something truly spectacular based on the reviews and photos. What we got was the 'WISH" version. The walkway was not finished being built for the season, so there was only one viewing spot, well away from the falls, so you don't even get wet. You don't even get up close to the falls. There was ZERO mention of it not being fully open on the website or at the park, and we still paid full price for our family of 6. Total waste of money during early spring! We went straight over to the Maid of the Mist boat ride afterward, which was amazing! I'm sure Cave of the Winds is as good as they say it is during the regular season, but it just felt like a bait-and-switch in April.

Awesome view of falls

By Ann |

Going down to the cave of the winds gives you such a great view of the falls from below. It is so beautiful, just know you will get wet!

Cave of the winds top tour guide

By John S |

The caves were amazing but i can not say enough the quality of our tour guide Katheryn! Her knowledge of the caves and passion to share her kkowledge with the group captivated the entire group which included 6 children of all age ranges. Thank you so much Katheryn for changing a tour into an amazing memory!

Amazing

By Alice P |

It was fascinating! We were so close to the water. My granddaughters went all the way up. They were so amazed by the power of the water and how close they were

Name is misleading

By RTG2022222222 |

Well worth it! Prepare to get wet! Make sure you bring extra clothes and shoes. The Hurricane Deck on this walk is pretty intense. It's not a real Caving experience! Still cool though.

The highlight of the day!

By DAKD c2c |

I will never forget this experience. Touching the American falls. Standing in the path of bridal falls. You have to experience it, there is nothing like it! Do bring a change of dry socks/shoes or wear sandals. Your feet will get soaked!

Incredible!

By anderson213 |

You can either be slightly wet or completely soaked. Go for it! The views are great, but get up close and you can hear the roar of the falls and witness the power of Niagara.

You will get SOAKED

By Michael E |

Cave of Winds is a trip to the bottom of the Bridal Veil Falls via an elevator located on Goat Island. I think it is worth the trip down and there was a bit more to it than I thought. First, after purchasing tickets you will go into a museum that gives a history of the falls. I didn’t know there was a time when the area around the falls was privately owned property and it was a bit of a carnival sideshow, destroying the very natural wonder that bought people there. The movie before hand was very informative about some of the inventions and world changing events that occurred there and in Buffalo, NY. Afterwards is the trip down the elevator into a tunnel (I wouldn’t consider this a cave, it was man made). Then a walk along a deck taking you to the bottom of the falls. You Will Get SOAKED. Our socks and shoes filled with water from the falls that we brought back to the hotel with us despite our efforts to get the water out.

One thing I should mention, there is no cave. There was a cave 100 years ago, when the place got its name, created by the falls hollowing out the rock behind the falls. The large overhang has since eroded away. You will not be able to go behind the falls as I had thought. Instead, you get to be at the base of the falls and experience the “Hurricane Deck” where the wind whips through your clothing and the spray makes it very difficult to see.

This was an excellent thing to do on a wet and rainy day, because it didn’t matter, you are going to get wet anyway.

Still good, even if they don’t provide sandals

By Gavin |

I went in July and it’s life changing. I have gone here before this July, but 1 year old me did not understand what this was. They provide a poncho, but they stopped providing sandals.

This was our favorite of all!

By free2venture |

This was the top favorite experience of all 5 of us, including 2 adults, 2 pre teens and a teen! We had storms in the forecast for early afternoon so we hit Maid of the Mist first (parking at Prospect St lot/main lot) and then bought our timed tickets for Cave of the Winds at the Welcome Center and enjoyed the 20 minute walk to the attraction going through Goat Island. You can buy them this way or directly from Cave of the Winds. In all other seasons, but summer, I believe the rep said you have to buy them directly from Cave site near parking lot 3, I believe. We enjoyed doing the walk and taking in the sights along the walk, so it worked out well how we did it. Their site does advise buying tix first thing in morning. Fortunately, due to a rainy day forecast, we did not have to battle crowds on a Monday morning in July, so once we saw it was still not storming after Maid of the Mist, we bought our Cave tix directly after around 10:30. If there were no storms, I would have bought them first, but we kept having to play things by ear.

I would rate both this and Maid of the Mist as must dos, but we liked this one a bit more. I think "exhilirating" is one of the best words to describe it. Unlike Maid of the Mist that is over fairly quickly, this one allows for you to stop on the platforms and take your time more/go at your own pace. It is cool that it is like a build up to the climax of a natural sort of roller coaster (my preference) as at each platform, you are starting to get a little wetter, before the top, where you can choose to get drenched by the Bridal Veil Falls on the Hurricaine Deck.

I loved seeing one of my kids seemingly not getting enough of the drench at the top. He literally seemed to stand there for several minutes letting the water trample him and enjoying every second of the experience. After seeing that, it encouraged me to get the full soak as well and the water on my back was a bit like nails, but still so exciting! I enjoyed it so much myself, along with the kids, that I told my husband to change out of all the ponchos and give it and the backpack (with our dry bag inside keeping important things like birth certificates and cameras safe) to me so he could do it too. You can step off to the side to not get so wet and more safely take pics. He was glad he went for it too. Fortunately, the storms held off until half way through the walk back, but we were already wet so didn't mind, ate a snack in the car, realized we missed Three Sisters Island, so drove directly there (small lot right next to it with restrooms near by) and once it let up a bit, walked out there to see cool rapids. With parking, once you pay for one lot, you are good to go all day with all of their lots, so you don't keep paying. Their parking price is quite a bit better than Canada side, which seemed to overcharge or nickel and dime people on parking lot costs. There is also no charge to enter park.

We really enjoyed this park and absolutely loved Cave of the Winds! It, again, was our favorite out of all paid attractions (also did Maid as mentioned and Power Station w/ Tunnel in Canada) in both countries. Our favorite view was Horeshoe Falls on Canada side.

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!

By yeti vedder |

LOVED IT!!!! Favorite thing we did on our trip to both sides of the falls. It's awesome how close you are to the rushing water. If you go all the way to the top you will absolutely get drenched. GO TO THE TOP!!! I recommend some type of waterproof shoe and quick drying clothing.

Very Powerful

By Julie E |

It was amazing to feel the power of the falls. This was very fun and a unique experience. We kept our ponchos from the Maid of the Mist and they worked great, I recommend wearing shorts and waterproof shoes, I wore flip flops and they were fine. The people who wore pants got soaked up to their mid thighs,

3 Feets from the Falls

By Anand |

By far smallest of the fall and it gives you feel of the water power and experience. The best place of Niagara Falls from US side.

Perfect to do on hot day

By lovetoeatoften |

If your visiting niagara falls, you must do this. It is located in the state park on the American side and cost 15 for adult, 10 I think for child under 12. Well worth it as you get so close and so wet to the falls. Great photo opportunities

The birds are disgusting and smell ruined it

By TheTraveler |

You walk into a room with everyon'es nasty smelly feet to put on the sandles they give you. There is nowhere to store your shoes and belongings. The birds are everywhere as you walk towards the falls. Crapping everywhere. The falls and mist are amazing. Definately still worth seeing.

Great experience

By Traveller |

I went to the Cave of the Winds in April 2022. It was a great experience. I paid $12 for the ticket. There is a film that you can watch but in the interest of time I skipped it. I went to an elevator which took me down to the level of the river. I walked through a long tunnel which had information on the walls. I then exited from the tunnel to a walkway which had a view of the river and in the distance Horseshoe Falls. The river was frozen with ice. I was able to walk fairly close to American Falls and Bridal Falls. I looked up to get a spectacular view and took a photo and a video. At the top of American Falls and Bridal Falls you can see people in the viewing area. In the distance was a view of Rainbow Bridge and the Observation Tower. I think the Cave of the Winds was a great experience and I look forward to doing it again my next time in Niagara Falls.

Epic waterfall experience!

By Jodi R |

Put this one on your list! This was such an amazing experience. We actually climbed a deck that practically went into the waterfall! (They provide ponchos too). Our favorite experience so far! FYI - You will need to be able to climb stairs for the best experience.

Rock you like a Hurricane !

By elwoodblues0014 |

Visited midweek as part of a tour. Short elevator ride then various levels and viewing angles of the falls. Ponchos provided, you will get wet. Take your time, enjoy power of the falls.

Exciting and Educational

By darlae1978 |

Cave of the Winds is a must-see if you are in the Niagara Falls area. The entrance building is packed full of truly fascinating historical information and interactive displays and the short film is incredibly educational. You can take as much time as you want once you're on the boardwalk below the falls and there are several levels of boardwalk so you can choose just how close (and wet) you want to get. Make sure to wear water shoes and clothes you don't mind getting wet. This was one of our favorite stops on our trip to Niagara and well worth the price tag.

Cave of the Winds

By Mike J |

This was a cool experience. Seeing and standing right next to the bottom of Bridal Veil falls. You must wear shoes that can get wet and can handle slippery conditions.

The ponchos do a good job, but if you choose to get close to the falls, you are going to get SOAKED.

Elevator ride down was smooth and staff were very friendly.

The Intensity of Niagara Falls from an amazing view point... under the falls!!!

By Seth R |

The intensity of nature can be felt first hand with this unique attraction at Niagara Falls. Cave of the Winds is a tour that should be on everyone's list when visiting the falls. The cave is run by NY State Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation and offers guests an opportunity to see how powerful the falls are at a viewing area at the bottom of the falls. Yes, there's a good chance you'll get wet from this excursion and in some cases, you can choose to get absolutely drenched! Highly recommended. (PS - Bring a change of clothes)

An Amazing Experience

By Joshua S |

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Cave of the Winds. This is such an amazing experience. Words cannot describe what you experience being so close to the falls. You will get wet, but during a hot day, it is such a wonderful relief. When leaving, you may have to wait a bit for an elevator back to the top; however, we were fortunate enough that there was no line as we left! I highly recommend doing this when in Niagara, you won't regret it!

Fierce waterfall

By Jodi P |

This attraction was so worth it! If there’s one thing you do at the falls there is nothing like this experience! Walking up close to the falls was amazing! A must do!

Amazing!

By Jennie S |

Cave of the winds is by far the best tour to do while up at Niagara Falls. It is truly breathtaking! Our group could not stop talking about how much fun they had on here.

Viewpoint from a person with claustrophobia

By Shannon B |

Family loved it! Worth the wait in line.
However - I am claustrophobic so I want to write about my experience for those questioning whether or not the experience is for them.
The elevator ride is short - 30 seconds. We had 10 in our elevator and I was ok. When you get out of the elevator, there is a 175 foot “tunnel” to walk out of. People are walking through quickly and once you are through it, you are out in the open. My problem was standing in line to get back out. You wait in the same tunnel to catch the elevator back up. If it is crowded, you may wait 10-20 min. I don’t like feeling “trapped” so that is what prevented from going through with it. The attendant allowed me to join a group and go back up the elevator. I am disappointed that I didn’t go. I would suggest going early or at non busy times. I could have gone through if it weren’t for the crowd and the wait in the tunnel.

Must Do

By Miranda M |

Be sure to visit the Cave of the Winds. This is a "Must" when visiting the American Side. The views were stunning. You WILL get wet!

Fun little experience

By pickymomEvansville |

It was neat to watch and hear the roar of the falls from directly beneath it. For around $12 per person, we took a short ride down an elevator, then very short walk through an underground tunnel to reach the bottom of the falls. From there, there is decking at various levels to walk to different vantage points to see the falls. My husband got a picture of me on the "hurricane deck" getting soaked from the waterfall directly behind me. You can stay pretty dry if you want to, by staying on some of the decking farther away from the falls. The short 5-10 minute movie experience on a theatre screen that you watch before going to the falls was very interesting. I enjoyed learning about how the Niagra Falls area was transformed from an industrial/manufacturing eyesore into the State park and beautiful sight it is now.

You will get very wet

By jrzj42 |

The boardwalk/decks/staircases take you close, and in one section, right into the edge of the American falls. It can get crowded. The provided poncho can do very little to offer you protection if you chose to go to the edge of the falls. Shoes, mobile phones, and cameras will get wet. I saw a couple of guys remote their ponchos and stand in the falls - it's like jumping into a pool. A must do experience when on the American side of the falls.

Best part of my trip to Niagara Falls

By Stefanie W |

If you want to get wet and experience the true power of Niagara Falls, you must do Cave of the Winds! It's a bit of a misnomer -- it's not really in a cave, nor is it especially windy. It's a boardwalk that lets you get as close as possible to the Bridal Veil Falls of Niagara Falls. It's hard to express the joy I felt as I stood underneath the falls and got completely soaked. It was exhilarating. There's also a very interesting exhibit and short film about the Falls before you go down to the boardwalk. It's amazing that they rebuild the boardwalk every year!

Best of Niagara!

By VictoriaK2 |

Best part of my visit to the park!!!! Be sure to get a plastic pouch to protect your phone. I recommend bringing water sandals and don't do your hair. You're getting soaked here.

Awesome Experience!

By Debbie W |

Feeling the power of the Falls on the hurricane deck of Cave of the Winds was awesome! We had to climb a lot of stairs to get there, but thankfully there were several landings to stop and rest. It was so exciting and worth the climb when we reached the top!

A lot of water

By Joe R |

Awesome thing to do. We went on a rainy day but it was still an awesome experience as you could feel the power of the water and see the beauty of the falls.

One time experience

By Adriene A |

Seeing all the nesting seagulls is very cool. Being near the water is cool, but very short (the decks have not built it up all the way for the summer season yet), they did not have the water shoes or the poncho included in the price (I read that they were before) and the price is not less. The video before the walk is informative. If the price was about half, my rating would be higher. I did read the other reviews and did Maid of the Mist first, kept the poncho (which is longer than the one they used to supply anyway) and brought my own flip flops to keep my shoes from being nasty later. It was OK. I don't think I would go back though. I think Journey behind the falls would be a better deal for the money.

Different Perspective of the Falls

By PRC0809 |

Fun trip very close to the falls. Because of the time of year the entire viewing area was not open yet, which was not a big deal (price was reduced). You get amazing view of the Canadian and American Falls. Be warned you get VERY WET when you get close to the falls. There are a lot of stairs, we saw a lot of people who obviously didn't know this and were really struggling. We had a great experience and would go again!

A trip to the falls should include this

By Darren D |

I'd been to Niagara falls when I was 13, in my 30s, and now in my 50s. I'd heard of Maid of the Mist all my life, but I had never heard of Cave of the Winds. Therefore, we added this to our trip without having planned to do it. What a great surprise. Another exhilarating experience at Niagara Falls. The thundering rush of water above us and next to us - and the mist/rain - was a great experience. I am convinced that a trip to the falls should include both the Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist.

Exhilarating Experience!

By John R |

Great way to view and experience the falls. Liked that we could go at our own pace. September is late in their season, so it was not crowded at all. We were initially going to pass on going up to the Hurricane Deck because it was windy that morning and the Hurricane Deck was getting super wet (a constant flow of about 2" of water running across it), but decided to go back and do it. The other sites give you ways to view the falls, Cave of the Winds gives you the opportunity to experience the falls by being right along side of them.

Literally under the falls!

By Mabami |

Really fun experience under the American Falls. Walkway that takes you right to the side of the waterfall.
They provide plastic raincoats but it is good to keep in mind that you get wet. We were in shorts and flip-flops and had no problems, but shoes not suitable for water and long pants may be impractical.
We are
Went on a Saturday and the first available entrance was after two hours, I recommend going to the ticket office first thing once you enter the park and take advantage of the wait to take a walk.

Don’t miss Cave of the Winds

By Janie R |

So much fun at Cave of the Winds. It was well worth the time and money. Grab a raincoat and get ready to get wet! Don’t forget your camera!

Well Worth The Price

By Ron_hc40502 |

Outstanding and well worth the price. To be able to get that close to the power of the rushing water and actually have it running over your legs at one stage is unforgettable. Highly recommend.

So much fun! A must do!

By Jenascar6 |

Oh my, can not recommend this enough!!! So much fun! Not scary at all. You get a poncho at purchase, thought we would get shoes but we did not. Two of us where wearing sneakers with socks and they got completely soaked. I highly recommend either wearing old shoes or bring a back up pair that can be wet or wear cross or something similar. There is no way to avoid your feet getting drenched. You ride an elevator down to the bottom of the gorge, then walk thru a narrow tunnel to start the climb. The wooden stairs are very secure. Not slippery at all and easy to do. At first glance I thought this wasn't really something for older people or out of shape but I was wrong. Its really easy, you can move at your own pace and its pretty short. I think we did it in under 15 mins and that was with the kids playing at the Hurricane deck for quite a while. Our family really enjoyed this, well worth the money. Bring a camera if you can and get pictures of a lifetime.

Cool experience

By AMSB |

Live in Florida and just like being in a hurricane. Really cool! You get a poncho, but wear clothes and shoes that are able sustain water. Enjoy!

Wow!

By Heather |

This was amazing. We went mid-May and it wasn't busy. When we went they didn't provide a rain poncho, so I would recommend going to the Maid of the Mist first and hang on to your poncho. You take an elevator down and walk out on a boardwalk. The number of seagulls were amazing. Part of the walk way is designed so that you actaully have to walk though part of the falls (feet only). I wasn't expecting that. You get up close and personal with the falls. The very top section is not open and it needs some repairing but it did not impact our experinece at all.

Fantastic

school trip

By Johanna |

The atmosphere in the caves was really cool because we walked around just with our lanterns. Our tour guide Jeremy is a very good story teller. It was fun to listen to him when he tried to scare us. Also the view outside the caves ist really pretty. It was a really interesting experience and my favourite trip since I am on my school exchange here.

Amazing Experience & a Lifetime of Memories

By 2SistersAdventures |

Amazing experience to see the Falls so closely & to feel the power of the water. You will get soaked even with the poncho if you go to the hurricane deck, but it's definitely an experience you'll never forget. The views are amazing and there are rainbows on sunny days across the Falls.

Best thing to do in Niagara Falls

By BrucknerPacific |

I've been to Niagara Falls 4 or 5 times (mostly on the Canadian side) and my visit was the first time I had ever been to Cave of the Winds. It was exhilarating, invigorating, exciting and wonderful. If you do only one thing in Niagara Falls, do this. Standing practically under Bridal Falls is a great feeling and makes you feel so alive. My wife and our three teenage children all loved it. Would give this six stars of I could.

Winter wonderland

By Rosslyn27 |

The ice formations are amazing. Well behaved pets welcome. We liked the short video. No crowds in March

Don’t forget water shoes!

By Marie |

Great experience, especially for anyone with children. Both of us are adults and we enjoyed it, but frankly didn’t care for a shower with our clothes on when we didn’t have extras along. Totally our fault! I forgot waterproof shoes and my shoes were wet the rest of the day. The ponchos help, but it’s still true, YOU WILL GET WET.

Best Attraction in Niagara Falls, either side

End of summer trip

By NQuoryo |

Super activity on a hot summer day can get crowded but all good they control the number of people entering. Once you get your timed tickets there’s a mini theater to explain the history of Niagara Falls and area, then an elevator ride down the walking area toward the falls, poncho provided, beautiful and well-made wooden deck platforms, which gets torn down and built again every year, get to the hurricane deck, such a feeling of fun, stress-free.

Poncho On… Won’t Help… Get Wet… Laugh

By Ines M |

This was the highlight of my trip to Niagara Falls. Not only do you get to get up close and personal with the waterfalls but if you choose, you can even get in it. It was an exhilarating experience that is great for the whole family. Be prepared you WILL get wet, even with a poncho on. Go with the idea that you will get wet and bring a change of clothes. You will not regret it!

Amazing experience

By Mariusz S |

You have to go and see the falls on this tour. It only takes about 1 hour but this experience packs a punch. The first part is a little history lesson which is actually quite cool, the history is reach and interesting. Afterwards you take a lift down to the bottom of the gorge and walk the wooden planks towards the edge of American Falls. You get really close, I mean you can touch the falls if you want in one spot. I truly don't know how they build this walkway each year and tear it down for winter. It feels safe but the power if the falls is immense.
You get totally wet so take sandals otherwise you shoes will be totally drenched.
Amazing experience.

MUST DO when at Niagara Falls, USA!

By Jamey E |

This attraction at the falls on the USA side was so incredible! We chose to do the Cave of the Winds vs. the Maid of the Mist and I am so glad that we did! We booked the very last entry time of the night (9pm) and we practically had the area to ourselves. It also added an element of adventure being that it was starting to get dark - how cool to right up next to the falls as it is lit up for the night! Be prepared - you get drenched even with the little poncho - totally worth it! Make sure you have water shoes or sandals on and there are steps to climb (not many but if you have mobility trouble then this isn't the attraction for you...). This was a highlight of our trip and I highly recommend it!

Awesome Experience!

By DoubleH |

This was so fun! Be ready for a lot of walking, on case that’s an issue. Be ready to get soaked if you go to the top - and it’s so fun and worth it!

Great winter experience

By minimize940314 |

I visited this attraction in the winter and I highly recommend it. Virtually no crowd and you get to enjoy the beautiful scene on you own. The ice over the tree makes the waterfalls more magnificent. Be sure to poncho that is given free.

Fun times

By Daniel |

Before they take you down to the wooden walkway in an elevator, they show you a movie about the history of the falls that we found very entertaining. The views of the American falls from this perspective are pretty awesome. At the bottom of the walkway, you can actually reach out and touch the falls. As you ascend the stairs, you begin to feel winds up to 75 mph and the power of the falls. If you go far enough up, be prepared to get soaked. Another must do while visiting Niagara Falls!

Wonderful experience!!

By cherylthompson1956 |

YOU WILL GET WET - BUT so worth it. Staff was cordial and informative. Thanks for a great experience!

By Lisa L |

Wow! Amazing force of nature. Walk alongside Bridal Falls and revel in its glory. Powerful water gushes by you as you ascend wooden stairs alongside the Falls.

best thing I've ever done in my life.

Extraordinary experience. Go all the way up and enjoy being under the waterfall. When will you ever get the chance to do this again? I am so happy.

Do this you won’t regret it

By Michigan Dad |

Overall just very beautiful and a great way to get close to the caves, take pictures, and have an experience. Also, purchase trolley tickets. $3 and you can take this to maid of the mist and screw great spots for shopping, eating, and taking pictures. Staff were very polite and helpful.

Family fun time

By Peggyld |

Pretty cool experience to see it up close and getting wet with it. It really shows how powerful those falls are! We enjoyed this with my sister & brother in law

Nature power

By adventix |

Really special. the only downside is the long line (expect about an hour of line and a short presentation before you can get there). This is a walkway into the spray of the Niagara Falls. Even with the poncho you will get wet so be careful to leave at the hotel any electronics or at least double wrap them. ware sandals as your shoes and socks will get soaked.

A close-up view of the rushing water

By Kate Illinois1 |

You are not behind the water like on the Canadian side but you will have a close look and feel of the rushing water. Ticket price includes poncho and water shoes. This is the last year the shoes will be provided. No lockers for belongings. We left our change of shoes by table as you enter lower level. Deck and stairs are slippery be sure to hold railing as you climb closer to the water. Thrilling experience.

Great experience!

By Denise B |

This was amazing! The smell of bird fecal matter was a bit strong at the beginning of the walk, but getting that close to the Bridal Veil Falls was amazing!

Took tour that included Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds

By Robert S |

Absolutely thrilling! Walking right up to and actually being partially doused by the water created a lifetime memory.

Wet and more wet.

By Retirement Rules |

Great place to visit and probably a must if your in the area. But not sure if it's worth the amount you have to pay if you have a family. If you want to get up close and personal with the water this is the place to be. We did have a great time getting soaked.

Super Cool to see and feel.

By Elizabeth S |

We took an all day tour was about 6 hrs. in the end.Jimmy our guide was Amazing.Cave of the Winds is beautiful in every way. So happy I saw it.

Must-Do When Visiting Niagara Falls!

By TDG65 |

When you visit Niagara Falls, you must do this! The sounds and views are simply amazing! The entire experience is one you'll never forget!

Excellent

By JosieH |

Went to buy tickets at 9 am, no queues and could book for whatever time we wanted. Super efficient, informative and great fun. You do get soaked so recommend water shoes!

"wow"

By ike t |

wow the language is to poor to describe G-D'S wonder on earth, it's amazing, and as much powerful we think think we are next to this MAGA wonder we feel like noting at all,.

Just isn't worth the wait.

By Kabekona76 |

Waited in line 20 minutes to buy tickets for a timed entry two hours from purchase. When our time slot arrived, we waited 30 minutes for the elevator down to the river and then another 35 minute line for the elevator ride back up afterwards. I guess I had different expectations with a timed entry.

Freaking AWESOME

By JustGo |

Be ready to get WET down to your undies! What an amazing experience to feel the thunder and drive of this wonder! Your heart gets pumping. You feel the thrill of the wind and water. You get to enjoy the awe with others as you navigate up the stairs, higher and closer to the rage. When you finally walk back up to the tunnel, you take off the poncho and have a sense of accomplishment. Definately one of the best things I've ever done! Just remember to bring an extra set of clothes and shoes.

Museum included

By JMagicfan |

I was surprised it had a museum before entering the walking area. It was full of history and very interesting. The boardwalk itself puts you up front of the falls like no other way. You'll get wet but some people got soaked, by choice.

Great

By Wesley |

I love caves and I've done several of these types of tours all around the country. This was one of the best ones I've been to. Our tour guide, Olive, was fantastic and personable, she really knew her stuff beyond just a script, which I've run into a ton. 10/10 highly recommend.

Amazing

By Alyssa G |

This was an amazing site. While this was my third time visiting Niagara Falls, it was my first time at this attraction. We went as soon as it opened which I highly recommend. We bought our tickets at the visitor center (no need to do a tour). My kids ages 11 and 13 said it was their favorite spot at Niagara since you get very close to the falls.

cave of winds

By Laurie |

Great for kids who want to get wet. good view. Maid of the mist is the best way to see the falls!!!!

Long wait but worth it

By Mom21042 |

I have been to Niagara Falls before but this is the first time I took Cave of the Winds. It was a long wait at the line but once we were down there, it was an experience of a life time!

Where's the cave?

By dana |

The experience was outstanding ..literally. Standing on a platform so near the falls that you were soaked by the falls water. That being said...where was the cave? I would do it again ..but the name is deceiving.

Mike

By Mike R |

This is a must do experience. You get very wet it’s worth it the views are amazing. Prices are reasonable. We went early in the day no lines.

Awesome experience

By Zuzana |

We absolutely loved this experience! Cave of Wind together with Behind the Falls (Canadian site) is a must while visiting Niagara Falls! It is short circuit by side of American and Bride Veil Falls from US site. You get so close, so be ready to get wet. They didn’t give us any slippers or coat (but if you do this after Behind the Falls or Maid of Mist, you will definitely get one, or just wear a raincoat of yours). Also, I strongly recommend to go at the afternoon. The sun will shine on all site. In the morning I noticed, it was partially in shade.

Thrilling Experience

By where2nextbabe |

So much fun! You get a rain poncho with your ticket purchase however, you will still get wet! Especially if you have pants or Capris on. I am only 5'7" and the poncho didn't come to my knees. So anything lower than that will be soaked! Including your shoes! Crocks or some type of water shoe is needed. My husband and I wore tennis shoes and when we were done we were literally wringing the water out of our socks. It took 2 days for my shoes to dry. You also do not want to wear a flip flops. We wore our sunglasses and it helped keep the water out of our eyes till the very end. I almost wish we had goggles on! We used our go-pro for some photos and I used my waterproof cell phone. It was hard to take photos when you are getting pelted by the water and the wind. But it was super fun!!

Do not take anything with you that you do not want wet, bags, wallets, or cameras. The neck of the ponchos are loose, I wish I could tell you how to make it more snug around your neck to help keep the water from entering.

You buy your tickets on Goat Island. There is no online ticketing. Your ticket is timed, however, we went in late afternoon and got right in. I would say for us, it took around an hour and 15 minuets to complete this. You start with a group of people but once you get your poncho, you can stay on the decks as long or as short of time you want. We were exhausted when we were done but it was way worth it. My husband says it's way more thrilling than the boat ride to the falls.

Fun fun time

By 658candyw |

Great experience. You can get some great and fun pictures. Your shoes might get damp depending on the route you take, but you can always backtrack to avoid the super wet areas.

Exceptional!!

By Melinda W |

My adult son did this on our recent trip...LOVED IT!!! Of course you get really wet, so be prepared!!

See the falls from another perspective

By Allison A |

Well worth the $12 fee to see the falls from another point of view. Would recommend to anyone visiting as a must do. Also comes with a mini exhibit to read about the history of Niagara Falls and a very entertaining video. Really get your money's worth and take your time with this.

The view was magnificent

By Castle88 |

The last time we did this was 24 years ago and was with our nephews. This time we took our son for the experience. Be sure to wear water shoes or slippers with good grip. Your feets will get wet at the Hurricane Deck, else you are pretty dry longest you wearing the poncho.

Cave of Winds

By Yirmiyahu L |

Truly awesome. You will get very wet (the poncho does not help)! You can stand nearly directly under the falls. Worth every penny. We bought at the ticket booth (timed tickets, so we went early to choose our time).

The sheer volume of water is immense!!!!

By Dave W |

You will get wet, very wet. Experince 60,000 gallons of water a minute on the hurricane deck . Well worth the climb on the decks. Also take a waterproof camera to get the best pictures.

I can see why this is the number one attraction in N Falls. It's a must do.

By 3000calories |

Wow, was not expecting this to be as fun as it was. Really enjoyed the walk and the hurricane deck. You can avoid most water, if you want to, but it is way more fun to get splashed. Thanks to the ponchos they give you when you exit the elevator only your shows and your glasses will get wet. This was an enjoyable experience both for the adult, the pre-teen and the teenager.

Definitely a must do!

By ccb |

Definitely a must do! This was way more fun than we expected! Everyone loved it. You literally walk through the water fall. Believe them when they give you the water shoes and poncho. I thought I would get cold… but not at all.

Fun but be aware that you don't get the hurricane deck

By pastparticiple |

We had a nice time on this tour but we were expecting to get to do the hurricane deck and we were not told it was closed until after we paid and were getting ready to ride the elevator down. This information was not posted online or in person. I felt it was a bit of a bait-and-switch. However, it was still pretty fantastic being able to stand at the base of the falls.

Unique experience

By 6happyhikers |

This experience is worthy of 5 stars! We had a blast. Such a cool thing to do.

I’m taking off stars because #1 there was only one elevator running making for some wait times and #2 there is so much trash all along the walkways and surrounding areas. It’s heartbreaking to see the baby seagulls surrounded by pieces of ponchos and left over deck materials. I started picking up the plastic pieces as I walked but soon gave up because there was just so much.

Might be more fun than Maid of the Mist!

By tropical_art |

This was really fun! It might be even more fun than Maid of the Mist. We did the Cave first, and the Maid of the Mist. We were lucky that there was hardly anyone there. I enjoyed the little movie before going down to the lower deck. You have the option of getting sandals but we chose to just wear our own shoes. When you get down there, you will be right by the water. You will get wet! If you don't want to get wet, there are ways you can go to avoid getting super-soaked. It amazes me that people are allowed to walk up stairs that are flooding with water. Seems like a major tripping hazard. But if you are up for adventure, this is a must-do! We had so much fun here. This was just as fun as being at any amusement park.

Bring a go-pro or a waterproof pouch for your phone to take ample photos. You will not regret this.

Awesome view of the falls from bottom up.

By 697billm |

Start out with a history of the falls and power generation. Then a short walk to an elevator that takes you to an underground (cave) walkway. You then emerge on to a boardwalk. Follow the boardwalk to the base of the falls. You can see and hear the power of the falls. Getting close to false is an awesome experience. Looking up you can see other tourist looking down Depending on how close you get and the wind direction will determine ow wet you get. This is a most stop.

Great experience and fun time

By Avli |

It’s was awesome experience!!If you are shy to get wet, don’t do it!💦💦💦Our family enjoyed the time!

Fun to get drenched

By ColoNat19 |

No caves here, just an elevator. The walkways were just being rebuilt for the season and they did not have ponchos the day we went, but had them the day before, so bring a backup. There are tons of birds so the ponchos protect from poop too! Fun to get drenched and that close to the falls! Bring a waterproof pouch for your camera.

Super soaker

By Steve |

If you follow the designated path, you will get drenched in water . The only option is to not follow the path and go back to the start . That being said , it is a great view from down below

First Caves Experience

By Maya A |

I took my nephew with me. This was both of our first experience with the American Falls. It was so much fun and interesting to learn of its history. Beware of the smell when you get closer to the falls LOL! You will get soaked which is all part of the experience. Make sure you have something waterproof for your phone so you can take great pictures!

Great View

By Dave S |

Great view. A different perspective. I understand that much of the walkway is removed in the winter to prevent damage from ice buildup. And since we were there in mid-April, I'm pretty sure not all of the walkway had been assembled. So perhaps we didn't get as close as patrons would normally. Still, it's a neat experience.

The most awesome experience

By Heather D |

You get very wet and it was a little cold since we visited yesterday mid October but the adrenaline rush took care of that. We had an amazing experience and the falls are just sooo powerful.

"breath taking"

By kathy s |

Just 2 words, "breath taking" The view is outstanding. Lines were long. But, worth the wait time. Must see!

5 Stars!

We can’t add anything more to the thousands of other reviews- this was the highlight of our trip. Never have we experienced anything like this before and WE will return.

Ok

By Katepsu70 |

This place looks nothing like the pictures. There was one walkway. Nothing else was open. Kind of disappointing. Charged the same

So amazing, be ready for it though!

By Isa b |

This is one the key highlight of our US roadtrip. Be ready to be IN the falls. Do not wear flipflops, you'll loose them. Water over you and underneath you.
It was amazing, we loved it.
Do not forget to get your timed tickets ahead of time. Food offering around the activity is expensive and not very good, so eat before you go.

Outstanding & you will get wet

By Penny_is_picky |

You will get wet, so plan accordingly. We went first thing in the morning so we had zero wait. This.was worth the money. It’s a nice walk, mostly on wet wooden stairs. There are areas with wheelchair access. It’s nice to get right up close to the falls and feel the power and spray. Before going through the falls, there’s a small museum and informative video included with admission. Made me want to learn more about the history of Niagara Falls.

Do NOT miss this!

By Beth G |

Such an amazing experience. To be right up against the falls was something I will never forget. Be prepared to get wet!

In the "mist" of it all

By NEVenturer |

Birds, steps and wind are all part of this beauty. You are able, once again, to get as close to the action and power of the falls or stay a bit dryer and enjoy it without the 70 mph winds.

It really gives one the true appreciation for the power of the falls.

I loved learning about how this is a great site for birds to both feed and not be bothered by prey. Amazing stories of nature all the way around.

Get soaked and battle the elements or stand back and relish in the beauty.

Waste of money

By Jg V |

There is no cave. It was closed to the public years ago. It cost $21 to look at the Bridal Veil Falls from below and get soaked. It is nothing like what they have on the Canadian side, where you walk behind the falls. It was a big letdown for $21/person.

Just do it!

By ggat n |

The experience of a life time! It is a wonder to behold and the opportunity to be so close . Put your fears aside and enjoy!

Excellent experience

By Lisa B |

Being able to get wet and have an interaction with the Falls. It was wonderful to be able to get right up by the Falls and get wet at a couple different points. The next time I will wear shoes that are good for walking in water.

Wet and Wild Time

By LexiV |

This was my teen's favorite stop on our trip! I had a great time too, but you will get wet so dress accordingly. Our sneakers and socks were drenched. It is possible to avoid the wettest sections, but it's not as fun without them. There are timed tickets. You start in a room with museum displays, then you go into a room where you watch a short informative video, then you wait in line (outdoors) for the elevator. Once you go down, you get a poncho and walk a short way to the falls. The lowest level isn't bad, but you'll get wetter and wetter the higher you go. At about $20 per person this is cheaper than the other attractions that get you wet in the falls and we thought it was the most fun too. I highly recommend it.

A real highlight

By Chapingros |

You'll get wet for sure even with a rain poncho. My shoes and pant legs were drenched ... but it was well worth it.

Amazing!

By Trish O |

Amazing place for pictures! You will get a raincoat but be prepared to get wet. It is recommended to wear shoes that can withstand getting wet.

An Experience!

By Kaitlin R |

If you ever want to feel like what I assume Jim Cantore feels like in a hurricane, definitely hit up the Cave of the Winds. It was a blast! The tickets are reasonably priced as well. I recommend getting to the platform early to purchase your ticket for a timed slot so they do not sell out.

Fun excursion at the Falls

By Sherry L |

We loved the view and getting soaked with the Hurricane winds at the top. It was a fun event and definitely recommend it. Great

A Bucket List Item

By Steven W |

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. The scenery is amazing. Mother nature is so inspiring. Be prepared to get wet. They will provide a poncho however in the Hurricane deck it will not be enough:)

Like being on an elliptical machine in the shower, so much fun!

By Travelbugsforlife |

Such a fun adventure. You start in the waiting room where they have interactive displays and information. We were only in there for a few minutes when we were moved to the next room with the movie. In hind sight I wished we had asked to stay longer in the first room as the displays were really well done. But the movie was really informative and entertaining. Then you make your way to the elevator to go down to the Cave of the Winds walkway. There is no cave at this point, there use to be one but it collapsed in the 20's but the name remained. The nice thing is you can enjoy this activity even if you don't want to get wet, you just stay to areas of the platform that don't get much water. However if you are looking to be more adventurous you can walk around the platforms and up the stairs to the hurricane deck. Our group was joking taking the stairs up to the different platforms was like being on an elliptical machine in the shower, but we all loved it. I would suggest wearing a Teva or sandal instead of sneakers because if you want to go to the levels your feet do get wet. There is a cafe at the exit area of this attraction and we ate there as there was outdoor seating and it was a beautiful day. We were all impressed by the food here.

Favorite Falls Experience

By G H |

Incredible and immersive way to experience Niagara Falls. We debated doing this one or the Journey behind the Falls (Canadian side). Ended up doing both and were glad we did. If you have to choose one, I'd pick Cave of the Winds. You can stand back and only get misted or you can get really close and get pretty wet. Between the yellow poncho they gave us and our own raincoats we got really close and our clothes stayed pretty dry. So fun to feel the force of the falls!

Awesome time

By tenille0816 |

Breathtaking experience so glad we got to do this. You will get wet no doubt about it so make sure you wear your poncho to avoid getting soaked.

Wear the right shoes! They do NOT provide water shoes anymore.

By 1818Pioneer |

They do NOT provide shoes or a bag anymore. BE PREPARED! Wear waterproof shoes.
It is the most amazing experience when you are prepared for it. Wear the right shoes. We were slightly miserable, and very miserable after. Wear water shoes. Do not wear jeans. We saw some very wet people in jeans. It is an extremely wet and windy experience. It is incredible to be that close to the falls. It would have been spectacular if we had known about the shoes.

The Trek to a Hurricane

By Jordan Morningstar |

This was an amazing experience. My son and my husband had the best time.

It starts off with a video giving you history of Niagara Falls and Goat Island. After the brief video (15 minutes) you will get in line to take an elevator down to where you will begin your walk. They give you a new poncho...you can double up if you have a poncho from Maid of the Mist, but nothing will save you from the water on this attraction.

The Cave of the Winds get you so close to the waters you can touch it with you hand! The higher up you climb the stairs, the more wet and wind you will experience; at the top level, they have the Hurricane floor!

There is no time limit you can visit, however if you're on a tour, your guide will give you a time you need to return. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and admire the power of the falls. The steps are extremely slippery, so hold onto the rails and walk slowly.

The most striking Niagara Falls

By Family B |

The arrival via the state park gives a small Impression of an Attraction Park, but the course is very well designed.
The cave of winds is especially a shower under the water of the falls and what an experience!
The view is striking because taken in the middle of the bride’s veil, and we really feel all the power of the water that we approach very, very closely.
Teenagers loved it and so did we.
Provide flip-flops or water shoes or even go barefoot because you are sure to dip your shoes.
The ponchos are provided once you get off by elevator, but if you go to the end of the course, it protects in a limited way - lots of wind and water. It is possible to avoid the shower for those who are not fans.

Roaring Waters

Next to the Maid of the Mist this experience of getting next to the Fall and feeling the power of the water roaring down is an experience of a Life Time.

This blew my mind!

By Sunny Travels |

This was definitely my favorite experience during my entire trip to Niagara.

A quick elevator ride down, a brief walk through the tunnel, and you are ready to have a once in a lifetime experience.

You will get wet. We brought extra clothes and shoes to be prepared. My socks and shoes were soaked afterward and the bottom of my pants. All in good fun though!

The only thing odd was when I was buying my ticket, the employee was vaping as she was selling tickets.

Wow

By Phyllis H |

Fantastic experience, wear their shoes and roll up your pants. It was a wonderful site to see and worth the steps.

Fun experience

By milliegordon2 |

This was worthwhile, but not my favorite activity. It is very slippery and somewhat dangerous. Yes, it is quite the experience, but I wouldn't do it again. My shoes still haven't dried out and it's been 3 days!

Our favorite attraction at Niagara Falls!

By Travelgirl77710 |

We visited both the Canadian & American sides of Niagara Falls. Both are beautiful and the Canadian side views rival those on the US side but Cave of the Winds was our favorite attraction! The tickets have a specific return time ( don't be late!). There is a small museum area and short, interesting video beforehand. There are ponchos available, which you will need to stay drier but you'll still get wet, especially your feet! We put our cell phones in wet cases to use for pictures & videos- great idea!
There are a series of steps and areas to get up close to the American and Bridal Veil Falls. It's exhilarating and crazy but an amazing experience! Definitely do not skip

Cave of the Winds inspires awe.

By Tammy S |

Cave of the Winds was an awesome experience. We enjoyed it more than the boat to the falls. You are able to get very close to Bridal Falls and see the power of it.
You can stand back and not get wet, but it is amazing to stand beneath the fall and experience it’s force. I’d suggest bringing a change of clothes if you can’t return to your hotel right afterwards.

First time.

By ShellyDDM |

This was our first time doing it and it was great. The kids really enjoyed it. The only thing not enjoyed able was the long time

Skip This and do "Journey Behind the Falls" in Canada

By Judith O |

Skip this unless you just want to get wet walking up some steps! We were led to believe that we would actually get to see behind the falls - NO, that is only possible on the Canadian side at Horseshoe Falls with "Journey Behind the Falls". Basically, this is just walking up some steps that go beside Bridelveil Falls.

Best view ever.

By Joey I |

Amazed when walked to the end and saw the view. Totally Unbelievable. One of the best parts of the trip.

A must do adventure!

By Susan S |

So AWESOME! This is a must. You will get wet, but you won't care! One of the top 3 MUST DO adventures at Niagara Falls!

Excellent - get blown away.

By MrMurphy05 |

This is the first time I done this after being to Niagara Falls 5 times in my life. It was an excellent experience. You are right up there with falls and get blown away. There are no reservations so get there early in the morning or go in the off season as I did with my wife and her siblings and spouses (they are from the UK and loved it) as we are all near retirement age.

Memorable natural fun unique

By perpetualpassenger |

Cave of the Winds

One of our favorite activities that we did while at Niagara Falls. First of all, it is not a cave. This site consists of a walkway and boardwalks with steps that lead right up to the water. We could reach out and touch the waterfall. It is one of the most organic Falls experiences one can have while visiting Niagara Falls.

Our group arrived shortly before 9 AM. Because of this early tour, the Falls were in the shade, which was very pleasant. We walked up the “right hand” path which led directly to the highest point visitors can reach. The wind off the water at the top platform was so strong it was like standing in a mini hurricane.

We then descended all the steps to the bottom, stopping along the way at each landing to take a look at the Falls. Doing it in that order made it easier for us because one did not have to climb up as many steps.

Everything was wet. Even with a poncho our clothes were wet. The railings are slick and the steps are wet. We recommend wearing “rock shoes” or water-proof closed toed shoes.

There is a small museum that visitors wait in before the movie begins. I would have liked to spend a little bit more time there. I think we could have skipped the “photo”. A very exuberant photographer was taking “green screen” pictures. It wasn’t clear whether this was the only line though.

The informational movie we all had to watch before descending was actually very nice. Someone went to a great deal of effort to make it interesting yet brief. The audience we were with clapped after the movie! If you stand in the back of the theater then you will be some of the first down in the elevator.

Parking was interesting. $15 because it was Friday. Less on weekdays.
However, we discovered that we could drive to Maid of the Mist parking lot and “press the silver button” to tell the attendant that we had paid for parking at the Cave of the Winds, thus we could park there for no additional charge.

Gift shop was a little disappointing. The gift shop at Maid of the Mist was much larger. Maid of the Mist also had penny machines with a “Cave of the Winds” penny.

We would definitely visit here again.

As the two of us left the path we headed back through the long empty tunnel to the elevators. No one was around so we removed the chain at the end of the walkway in order to get to the elevators. When the elevator doors opened an angry attendant with a Chucky Doll mug yelled at us to stay behind the chain, “That’s what the sign is for…” Well this was an unfortunate end to what was otherwise a wonderful experience.

Wet adventure

By B.Perry |

Amazing experience. Did it as a child. Even better as an adult. It's definitely an experience you won't forget.. Make sure you bring your water shoes.

Disappointing; No Awesome Features

By VanEsq12 |

I've been in caves and caverns all over the world, and usually there is something inside that is unique or jaw-droppingly beautiful. Not this cave. During our 44-min tour I kept waiting for the "a-ha" moment that never came. It's a cave. Two sheets of cave bacon. Lots of soda straws. One pilar. A couple of sink holes. Absolutely nothing worth the $27 I paid to go in.

You Will Get Wet!

By LAAEastPeoria_IL |

You get to experience a bit of the power of the Falls with this attraction. We visited as part of our All Day Tour. Thankfully our guide gave us tips to help enjoy the falls. Wear old shoes and have a dry pair of shoes and socks to change into after visiting. Also, if you have already been on the Maid of the Mist use that poncho instead of the Cave of the Winds poncho. It’s of better quality.

Breathtaking view of the Falls.

By Debra K |

Self guided tour. Understanding how the elevator was built and seeing the Falls at another angle was very cool. Yes, cold when visiting in the winter, but beautiful!

Great Fun - we all recommend this!

By Surreyx5 |

We had so much fun.
We had already done the boat tour in Canada which was great fun too - but I've never laughed so much as when we did this, we all got drenched but dried off quickly. It was great fun to be stood so close to the falls - you really got to feel the power of the falls.
The information room and presentation was great too, not too much or too little, too long or too short.
We went on the weekend. It was busy but we enjoyed an ice cream before our time slot was called.

Group tour

We went with a group tour. Even though it was a chilly day we had a wonderful time. Would definitely recommend.

Family summer trip to New York and Canada trip.

By Raidiri L |

It was an amazing experience. Make sure that you go when it is hot weather anf wear water proof shoes and swim suit if you want to enjoy the waterfall better 😉. During summer and weekends expect long and multiple lines. We dis 3 lines before you get to the waterfall. They use an elevator to go down.. They have picking area. Don't forget to bring water. But not food or drinks to the falls. There are lots of steps no recommended for people who has difficulty walking.Parking available at a charge credit card only. Don't forget to take pictures at the horseshoes waterfall.

Niagara Must do on US side..

By Larry G |

This place was amazing. Bring a camera that is waterproof. Even though they give you a poncho, you will get wet and you will enjoy it! We brought a backpack to put our good walking shoes in and changed before and after doing the Cave of Winds. My family thought this was the best experience for all of Niagara.

amazing

By Kathleen T |

awesome and great fun. guide prepared us for what to expect ie.getting soaked!! ponchos and sandals provided

An Experience Of A Lifetime

By Sunny P |

On top of our list of must do’s.
Through a room like a mini museum into another room where you watch a video. I found both features interesting.
Then collect a pair of sandals (you can keep these if you wish) and board an elevator down to the bottom of the falls.
Note - there is NO lockers to put your shoes/bags.
Once down, you walk across the falls to the bottom of the falls.
The wooden structure is quite steep so if limited mobility you’ll need to be careful.
You can stay down there as long as you want but one thing for sure is that you are going to get wet!
It’s an experience in its own, being at the bottom of a waterfall, hearing the sounds, the vast amount of water which is never ending.

Very close to the waterfall

By Samuel Pasaribu |

It was really a great experience to be very close with the waterfall. The experience started at the upper floor where we can see the history of Niagara Waterfall. Then we continue experience to go down by using lift and walk along a tunnel. Then we will arrive at an open deck where we can walk through to see the waterfall closely. Be ready to wet, no matter you already use raincoat.

A unique experience

By LoveAGreatBnB |

Very exciting way to get right up close to the falls! Nice 10-minute intro film. Then you get to walk on walkways where the pounding falls will be pouring down on your left! The wind blows on you and the spray from the falls blows all over you. It’s hard to take photos with so much water blowing on you. I tried to take a few, but I couldn’t see what I was doing, and my husband kept on saying I was going to ruin my phone. You are given a free hooded plastic poncho to put on, but you will still get wet. Wear shoes or boots that you are comfortable getting soaked. Pack a pair of socks and pants to change into afterwards, unless you don’t mind walking around in wet socks and pants afterwards.

Beautiful

The Falls were Outstanding!!!! Everyone should see the wonders of the world.Makes you wonder how Great God is....

Winter Wonderland

By LoveUFLoveFLA |

We visited in January. It was extremely cold, so not much traffic. Even though it was cold, this was a great option.

We were able to learn about the falls in a very unique way, warm up a bit during the “show”, then top it off by visiting the icy falls.

It’s stunning in the winter.

Worth the wait and every penny!

By Libby G |

So thrilling and exciting and beautiful! We even braved the hurricane deck! Honestly, we decided to skip the boat ride since nothing else could get us closer!

Experience the power of the Falls!

By Kathy K |

We traveled with our grandchildren ages 6-8. They loved it! It was a great adventure that the kids want to return to again. We were a little cautious since my husband and I are 70, but the walk was easy for us to navigate.

Haunted cave tour

By Lou A |

Had a great day there! We also included the Haunted Cave tour, with Maggie as our guide. This was really fun for our whole family ! Maggie did a great job!

A definite stop for visitors. (Don't bring babies)

By Jen H |

You will get wet! It's a neat experience. Bring water shoes. I recommend going to this. Experiencing the hurricane deck is a must. A few had babies strapped to them. I did not care for that!

Mind-Blowing!

By FoodieGal |

Mind-blowing experience. So amazing to have all that power rushing right towards you. I would do it over and over again.

Under the Falls!

By Nancy F |

Cave of the Winds is life changing. Pictures cannot do the experience justice. Come and see! There is nothing like it!

Amazing. Wet. Worth it.

By KristinErin |

Amazing! Totally worth it, but IF you want to be smart, go to the Maid of the Mist beforehand and keep their poncho and wear it to Cave of the Winds because their poncho is so flimsy. And do what others were doing and wearing both. It barely kept us dry. Water soaked through the neckline. Mine broke by my arms and I had to hold it together. Not sure if it depends on the weather and or wind, but it was so wet.

Warning, wear sandals!!! We made the mistake of wearing tennis shoes and 3 days later, they are still wet. You will get so wet.

However, we all loved it. What a view. What an experience. You have to climb stairs and at one point I had to stop because it was so intense with the wind and the water, but my daredevil kids and husband trekked on and I got some awesome pictures of them.

Awesome Experience!

By Carrie D. |

I have been to Niagara Falls, Canada at least a dozen times, but had never been to the American side of the falls. Every time we’d visit in Canada, I’d look across the and wonder what the Cave of the Winds was like. We finally visited the American side with friends and got to do the Cave of the Winds and it is now hands down my favorite attraction on either side of the falls. It was an incredible experience.

The process is super easy and organized—you buy timed tickets at any of the kiosks in the park. You show up at your time, get ushered in and watch a film about the falls and their history and then get your poncho and are on your way. You can spend as much or as little time as you want on the various platforms, including the hurricane deck. We did get really wet, even with the ponchos, but we didn’t care—it was a hot day and it felt good! It’s pretty incredible to be that close to the falls and to hear the roaring water.

Know before you visit…

Writing a review to try to provide some info that we didn’t see on their website that might be helpful for others:
1) This is *not* a particularly COVID-safe activity. I had been hoping for an outdoor activity for our family. What wasn’t clear on the website is that the mini museum and indoor movie stops are *mandatory* — everyone is corralled first into a small room with various exhibits and then into a theater room for a 7 min video before you can get to the elevators. I asked a staff member if these steps can be skipped and they said no. My family wore masks indoors but very few others did. So if you have a reason to still be COVID-cautious be aware that this might not be the best choice for you. I wish I had known.
2) At least when we were there they did *not* give out sandals / shoes (contrary to the reviews I had read). Maybe they only do that certain days or times of the day?
3) Prepare to get not just a little wet but basically drenched. Best to wear shorts or roll your pants up under the poncho. Our shoes and socks (even waterproof hiking boots) were totally soaked through. Bring extras.
4) You do need a timed entry ticket but you do not need to go all the way over to Cave of the Winds to buy it. If you plan to do Maid of the Mist first there was a kiosk between Parking Lot 1 and Maid of the Mist that seemed official and seemed to sell Cave of the Wind tickets (can’t vouch 100% since we didn’t know about it until too late and didn’t use it — but it would have saved some time and walking in our day).

Hope the info helps some other people!

What an experience!

Went with my wife and we both enjoyed every moment of it. It really rejuvenate your energy and feel young

Wet is what you feel- Awesome is what you see

By Patrick P |

This place runs like a swiss watch. They have the lines moving like clockwork. Only Chick-fila moves folks through faster. You will love this experience

Absolutely Worth Every Penny

By Steve W |

Absolutely a must do American Falls adventure. You will get wet, but change choose to also get nearly drenched if you stand directly under the spray of the falls. Plan on climbing quite a few steps, but it is very doable. At times during the climb, the water from the falls in running right over your feet! That is really cool! (no pun intended). There are places you can reach out and actually touch the falls. Bring an extra pair of shoes that can get wet, they're no longer able to provide the footwear. Pricing is reasonable and well worth it. Best to stop by in the morning and purchase your ticket for an upcoming time slot. Tickets are for a specific time. Would give 6 stars if we could.

Part of a day tour

By Michael Shields |

Very cool experience. You don't have to get WET, wet to experience this, but I chose to get near the Falls and it was amazing. Ponchos are provided and fit closer around your neck than the Maid of the Mist ones.

That wonderful place.

By Yasmine C |

I was really close to nature i feel great with this new experience and i want to go back . This is beautiful place

AMAZING!

By Kay R |

Wow! Amazing! So glad we did this. My husband brought our underwater camera and I am so glad he did. This is an unforgettable experience.

Beautiful

By Keila |

Beautiful...the photos and videos don't do it justice. The walk is a little long but it is worth it. Go with the mindset of getting wet. It's almost inevitable.

Super great experience right at (in) Niagara Falls

By mirax |

Cave of the winds is a great experience to feel the power of Niagara Falls up close - WARNING - you are guaranteed to get really wet here - like a huge shower!
Much better experience than the "journey behind the falls" on the Canadian side... if you can/should only visit one - always choose the CAVE!

Best way to experience Niagara falls with small kids

By Emily M |

Incredible experience. We loved that it was self-guided so you could come and go between the platforms as you wanted. We had 2 4-year-olds, a 2-year-old, a 1-year-old, and a 2-month-old baby with us, so it was nice to be able to take our time and stay behind if we had to. All of the kids loved it and nobody got scared which we were nervous about. You choose how close you get, how wet you get, and how much time you spend which is why we decided to do this instead of a boat tour.

Beautiful view from below

By Sandra F |

This is a must go! You can can spend as much time as you want. You take an elevator down to the boardwalk there are lots of steps if you want to walk up and around on the boardwalk and get totally soaked from the falls. If not you can walk up a few steps and come back down or stay below and not get wet, but you still have a beautiful view from below, It’s amazing how much water comes down and with such force and it runs continuously year after year.

Awesome!

By 2seniorcitizens |

Don’t miss this awesome up close experience if you don’t mind getting wet. You can purchase timed tickets at the welcome center and don’t waste money buying from a tour. We also saw the gull chicks- so many seagulls! A great up close to the falls experience!

Words Cannot Describe...

By DignanAgnew |

Not much to say about this attraction as it is hard to do it justice with words. You need to see it in person. Just for the record, you cannot say you have been to the Cave of the Wind unless you stand upon the 'Hurricane Deck' :). A Niagara MUST DO!

Wet, Windy & Wonderful

By BrenW |

Keep your poncho from the Maid of the Mist to enjoy the Cave of the Winds and an amazing, up close and personal experience!

Prepare to get wet! So much fun!

By caroline1851 |

This was the best experience ever! So much fun! They create the right size groups so that it's not too crowded. Didn't feel rushed. Spent as much time as we needed. Got drenched. Super, super fun.

Don’t miss it

By Susan D |

This is a fun activity for all ages as long as you don’t have problems climbing stairs. We did get very wet on the hurricane deck but it was so fun. Highly recommend this activity.

A soaking wet trip, A++

By Holly @ LoveAtFirstSite.blog |

We loved this. We had never been so close to the falls and had such a great time getting soaked! Could have used some goggles to see a bit better as there was that much water. Loved it and definitely something everyone should do once!

Fabulous experience!

By Donna |

You have to go through the Cave of the Winds to experience Niagra Falls in its entirety! Climbing the staircase and experiencing the falls was fun and exciting. A must do!

Exhilarating

By Middleoftheroad5 |

This is a very unique experience. The Hurricane Deck in particular is fun if you want to get soaked. Tips: Arrive at opening to select your timed entry slot before they are sold out. Wear shoes that can handle slippery surfaces and can get wet. I brought my own rain poncho as the ones included are basically like an off brand trash bag.

Hard pass for this couple

By kbezio |

I would pass if I was ever offered a chance to do this again. Our opinion is that is was seriously overrated. There was nothing enjoyable about the experience. The wait to take the elevator down was long...think Walt Disney World long and no/little shade.
Unless your aim is to get pummeled by the wind and water and walk away soaking wet all the way down to your socks and shoes. Pass. Just pass.

Cool

By Marcy W |

This is so cool to do. Be prepared to get majorly wet. Advice is take your shoes off if you can. It will keep them from getting wet.

Great experience

By Kristine H |

Worth the trip. What an amazing experience. Cools you off. Beautiful sites. Elevator broke though when we were in line and had too wait long lines. Only one working.

Windy and rainy but great fun!

By jeffreys132018 |

Had a wonderful time with Larry S. on our tour! Highly recommend! Prepare to get wet as the falls are very close to steps leading into cave overlook!

Cave of the Winds Great Value

By ryan82474 |

This is a tremendous experience that you have to do. An elevator takes you down to the bottom of the falls where you can walk up a safe system of decks to get right next to the falls. It is insane how close you get to the water.

Great place to take photos!

By Jack |

Cool experience! You can learn about the history and have a great view of the falls! Your very high up and it is kind of scary though. Great place to take photos! Highly recommend!

Do both sidesof the falls. Cave of the winds beats jour

By Carol S |

Day 1 we went to Canadian side of the Falls. They are beautiful. From. That side we saw The Maid of Mist and the Canadian version boat into the falls. The American Maid ship always had fewer people on the ship. Everyone could see. The Canadian side boat was packed! Not a good experience. We also did the Journey behind the Falls on Canadian Side. The 2 observation desks were well worth seeing - easy to get to - no lines. The line to see the "under the falls" was long and definately not worth it to see a cave with water falling down in front of it.

So the next day we did American side. We bought tickets for Maid of the Mist $28 ea. Wonderful! Everyone had rail space on the boat. Each side had equal views. Then we walked over to Cave of the Winds - I thought it would be similar to Journey behind the falls - but No! This was FUN! Close to the water - you can get as wet as you want. The elevator man told us to Embrace the Water. It was Fun & Wet. The force of the Falls create wind & wet!

Don't waste your money with tours. They aren't needed. On the U.S. side you can walk or buy an all day tram ticket to get from Maid of the Mist to Cave of the winds. It was Sept but hot. We walked over but took tram back.

The 2 days we spent there was FUN!

VERY GOOD BUT....

By SUNILDASWANEY |

CAVE OF THE WINDS itself was very beautiful to experience but its surrounding infrastructure was extremely poor. From the moment we entered the lift to go down to the tunnel to the path and then up the steps to this beautiful attraction, the experience was very ordinary, dull, and definitely below average. The maintenance around the area surrounding COTW was very poor, which was very sad as this place should have been spruced up as if you were going into WONDERLAND!However COTW on its own was really very good.

Super fun and adventurous!

By LRichter |

Definitely worth the trip and a "must do"! Save it for the end of your day because you will get WET (unless you bring extra pair of shoes/pants). However, you can walk down and stay dry--but what fun is that?!?

On this journey, you must see the falls. Even though it only lasts for an hour, this experience is powerfu

By arbi n |

A little history lesson is presented in the first section, and it's really very fantastic. The history is accessible and fascinating. After that, you ride a lift to the bottom of the gorge and proceed to stroll along the wooden planks that lead to American Falls' brink. You can really touch the falls in one place if you go that near. I genuinely have no idea how they construct this walkway every year and dismantle it for the winter. Although the falls have tremendous strength, it seems safe.

A highlight at Niagara Falls!

By Ninetta K |

This has been one of my favorite attractions during our visit! Getting soaked on the Hurricane deck was A LOT OF FUN! Just keep in mind you will get soaked even with the rain poncho that they provide to you.

The tickets are timed and can't be reserved in advance. So, get your tickets as soon as you get to the State Park to book your spot. Don't miss this!

Super

By henry5678qddd |

I love the it wish I can stay there for hours and hours. The water pouring on you is amazing. Feels like heaven beautiful place. But long wait time

Niagara Falls vacation

By Frank T |

The cave of the winds is definitely a trip you want go on while at the falls. You are able to get close to the falls to hear the water crashing onto the rocks. You also have a chance to get soak. Walking around the niagara state park was also very enjoyable.

Amazing

By Jenifer C |

We had an amazing time getting to experience the Falls in this way!! Plan to bring a change of clothes, or a towel to dry off before you get back in your vehicle. Tickets are only sold on site; we got there at 6pm and were able to get tickets for the 7:44 time slot.

Park at 15 goat island loop road to be right outside this area. If you park in another part of the park your ticket is good for parking in the other lots same day as well!!

Be sure to check gift shop hours, we barely made it in time to shop.

Also, they take a couple of pics of you so be prepared for that as well!

Amazing Experience

By Joada G |

Great experience. We did the Cave of the Winds on our own. We took our water shoes because we did not want to get our shoes wet. As part of the ticket price they give you a poncho and some type of new flip flops. If you get close to the falls to take a picture you are probably going to get wet, but it is worth it.

Amazing

By Dena B |

So worth the walk up!!! GO to the top you wont be sorry!!! The lines were slow but again so worth it. Just be careful because it can be slippery so wear sneakers!

Too Much Fun!

By Timanddianne |

Too much fun! The Cave of the Winds was great! Being that close to Bridalveil Falls was an amazing experience. As you saw the power of the water coming over the Falls, you also felt it as you got wet! The ponchos definitely helped, but someone else suggested wearing water shoes and then changing them out with regular shoes you had in your backpack- great idea. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Niagara Falls; we hope to be able to do it again!

Tour guide Randy was great! Go for the all day tour!!

By Debbie T |

Outstanding views! We kept our raincoats from the maid of the mist for this adventure. Great idea! We got up close to the falls. It was very exciting.
