The highway is quite good and interesting, beautiful and with plenty of side trips to take. I must say the my bi-let knee replacement kinda slowed me down some and was the limiting factor in seeing some of the better areas. Go prepared to hike to some of the areas and DON'T forget to carry water. (DUH!) Do as I say not as I did. Since the rain has not been tom plentiful, the falls we did find were not as flowing as some of the pictures we have seen. Better to go right after a good rainy period OR while it's raining. I was surprised at the gas and motel prices. Yep, you got's to git off Hwy 11 but they are there. Small warning though, the gift shops are expensive and me thinks they are all on a price fix.

I grew up traveling on various parts of Hwy 11 and 45 years later what I appreciate the most is that it has remained the same. That's rare. The handful of exceptions are all for the better - new businesses - wineries, restaurants, etc, - that compliment the peaceful natural surroundings.

A must drive thru and see breathtakingly Beautiful. No picture can do justice to the Beauty you see all around you.

Beautiful ride thru the mountains of northwestern South Carolina. If you need to take this route, consider yourself lucky. Not sure I'd go much out of my way, but not bad by any means.

The highway provides a scenic byway when in South Carolina, and roughly parallels I 85.
The road became quite scenic north of Walhalla. There are several state parks near the route, with Ceasars head providing a great overlook. There are also waterfalls that you can hike to.
The northern end is near Spartanburg, but it is also easy to head to Asheville. A lovely day's detour.

Beautiful drive passing several State Parks. I stopped at every one of them, all offered something unique. Ceasars Head, Jones Gap, Table Rock, Devil's Ford & Keowee-Toxaway parks. It's definitely worth the time and drive.

This is a nice relaxing route in the upstate of South Carolina. There are many natural sites and some historical sites along the way. Nice views can be had. Various little villages along the way to stop in as well.

You get the best view by traveling on the scenic hwy. On your way up to ceasar head , on the right will be a pull over called Bald Rock. You'll get the best views fro there

We just got off this scenic byway and I'm at a loss for what anyone saw to make it a daylong itinerary for us. No businesses to speak of, no roadside stands, no scenery. It has been compared to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I was on the Blue Ridge from end to end and this isn't anything like it. We took this drive today based on reviews; if there was anything but Table Rock Lake to see, WE MISSED IT. Almost everything along the route is boarded up and deserted.

The SC-11 highway is a pleasant scenic drive in the Carolinas and is a pleasant change from driving along a major highway.
There were small villages along the way and general stores with locals sitting on rocking chairs.
Rolling hills and some flat countryside.
If you have the time try it.

I've had an opportunity to drive many scenic highways across the US of which there are many. I was discppointed with the national scenic highway designation for this highway and am not sure what the criteria must be for this designation. Is it pretty? Yes, it's okay, but not something I would recommend you driving out of your way to do unless you have other business in the area such as visiting one the the beautiful state parks such as Oconee State Park or Table Rock.

A very pleasant drive,But get gas when you get on it ,there are not many gas stations. There are several interesting things to do in the area with all the state parks. I recommend Table Rock State park, it has nice hiking trails with water fall.,also swimming area, and carpet golf. There are several waterfalls in the area One is a small one beside the road on Hwy.11 But there is another larger one, behind it down a hiking trail, not many people know about. You can get information about the waterfalls in S.C. on the web. This is our favorite place to go.There are some small motels but camping is the way to go in this area.At the end of Hwy.11 is Hwy .28 in Seneca.,take a right and go to Stumphouse Tunnel, a must see ! Its a train tunnel dug in civil war by hand, also in the same parking lot is the biggest Waterfall in S.C.
with covered bridge, overlook, and picinic area. Waterfall is handicap acessable, But not train tunnel.

Very scenic drive through the appilachian foothills! Several points of interest. Nice deversion instead of I-85.

We just drove the newly repaved Hwy 11. Great drive, but... Why isn't there any rumble strip on the shoulder and why aren't there any passing zones on the newly stripped areas?

If you are a nature lover, this is definitely an area you should explore! The Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway will be your base, but you will find yourself taking numerous side trips. Many, many waterfalls in the area that are worth the trek. Do be prepared for some unmaintained, gravel roads. If you travel off-season, also be prepared with small bills for fee areas that are unmanned. We were lucky and had a beautiful Saturday in January. Light crowds, but a mix of couples, families with small children, and teens! We only had time to explore the lower end but will hopefully have the opportunity to enjoy the northern half sometime soon as well!

the stone bridge was nice, as was the wooden bridge. Disappointed that the wooden bridge is no longer used for travel. nice place to relax.
Not a lot of traffic on the road but enough that you can't go very slow. Did we enjoy the ride sure.

My husband and I have wanted to explore the western part of South Carolina since moving to the state and low country 4 years ago. This past week we spent two days driving around some of the Up Country areas.
We started in the city of Greenville and toured Clemson and Seneca. Our next bucket list pick was the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (route 11). I was determined to see a waterfall! There are so many to see on and just off this route. We started at route 133 and went south, not having but a few hours. Lovely scenery, outlooks and waterfalls. Hope to go back very soon and see the Northern part of this route! Photos are of Upper Whitewater Falls, NC, Bad Creek, SC, Devils Fork State Park in Sc

Highway 11 is a nice route across northern South Carolina, avoiding busy, high traffic areas. We picked up this route just south of Brevard, NC from Highway 276 and followed it to its eastern end in Gaffney, SC. It travels through rural country, low, rolling foothills to basically flat areas. It is an easy drive along a two-lane road. There are a number of small villages. We were short of time so did not make any unneeded stops, but there are numerous opportunities to explore along the way. From Gaffney, we dropped south to Highway 9 for continued easy travel east.

I will admit February is nowhere near prime time for this drive. While the views of the hills are better with no leaves blocking the way, the peach orchards, farmlands, fruit stands, and wineries would no doubt be prettier at other times. This is nowhere near as scenic as, say, the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I do intend to make a day of it at some other time of year. The drive from Gaffney to Table Rock was nice.

The docent at the SC Welcome Center recommended this detour for us. What a bummer that we didn't start it till 3:30. I would recommend you spend a day to take advantage of all this area has to offer. Actually, you could spend a week with all the side hikes, quaint towns, and waterfalls to explore. Unfortunately, we only had time to quickly get in the short walk to the Issaqueena Falls and then we stopped a while later at Aunt Sue's Country Corner for ice cream. This is an area that we would like to consider for a future summer vacation.

The "No Passing" problem has been resolved. I can't think of a better drive, well maybe The Blue Ridge Parkway, but a close second is Highway 11.

You can drive from the Georgia/South Carolina border thru the countryside with some spectacular mountain scenery along the way to the other end of Hwy 11.

I was looking thru my AAA magazine and they reccomended this drive. It was one of the best road trips I've had. It runs for about 125plus miles. It is all on/off state highway 11(runs east-west). I began on the western end(georgia border). It goes all the way to Gaffney,SC. This is a beautiful drive. There are mountains(sasaffras mt-highest point in SC),Table Rock ST PK,Caesars Head st pk. Some of the most beautiful waterfalls to be found. You could spend days in North Georgia,sw North Carolina and northern SC trekking waterfalls! Hiking opps abound. Everything from a few feet to many miles. If that's not enough there are a variety of covered bridges(campbells,Poinsette). Then you can end up at Cowpens Battlefield. It can be done in one long day,but take two or three.

Great views of the mountains all along the way. Also some neat little places to stop at for site seeing or local snacks.

I did a 4 day solo tour of the highway and that was just about enough time. I can recommend for hiking you start at devils foRk state park, keowee park, table rock and on the last day caesar state park. On route you need to stop at whitewater falls and make a detour to north Carolina to find Dupont forest as they have some great walks and falls to.in regards to places to stay wallahamotel is really good place and so too is a nice little motel, use the wallah a for first 2 parks and the latter for final 2. As for eating its limited, make the most of the fruit stands on the road as the cafes are typically Dixie style all fried stuff with cheese. Gas is not. Problem on the route
Our family drove this highway multiple times on our vacation to the upstate and it was great! Coming from Charleston, this was a much appreciated view versus the flat pavement of the main highway. There are multiple things to see along the route, including waterfalls, bridges and parks. Plus, I'd say the mountains are a huge plus! Definitely worth driving!
