Great State Park

By jgoldsmith300 |

A wonderful urban Oasis with extensive walking, biking trails and paths, fishing and boating. A great away for the day any time of the year

By kerrye40 |

CC dog park is the best, it's about 3 miles all the way around. Has a river dogs love to play in! Loads of happy dogs!!!

Bike, run, fish, walk

By U K |

Big open spaces for whatever you want to do. Not a lot of natural splendor, but it's nice. Park is geared towards picnics and fishing more than pure nature, but you might see pelicans, prairie dogs, and the usual birds and fowl. The 30+ mile bike path extends out in both directions. It's paved and smooth. There are some unpaved trails.

Don't try to go across the top of the big dam. The only thing up there is a big busy road.

The Cherry Creek Family Shooting Center is a Gem

By Bringstheeagle |

I attended this range frequently sometimes during the summer months daily but less in winter because it’s outside. The range is well run professional and safe. They have recently remodeled the office area and have a well appointed and equipped shooting center well worth a visit.

They have a pistol and rifle range at the same location. I’ve been a member there for several years and I’d recommend it to anyone interested in the sport if shooting.

My tip would be if you’re heading to the range on a Friday in the summer get there early as the campers cause a slowdown at the gate. If you get past that issue …no problem you will indeed find a spot on the range without a problem.

If you’re a shooter and haven’t tried this range you’re missing out.

Nice trails

By ShellandPat |

This park is loaded with nice huge Cottonwood trees. It has nice trails and there are lots of deer and othere wildlife. We have also seen Great Horned Owls here at dusk.
Laid out nicely but lots of people. Many times when we drive by the entrance cars are lined up to get in. We prefer going in the fall and winter when the cyclists thin out. They are absolutely EVERYWHERE so keep an eye out because they assume YOU will look out for them!
Campground is very nice and kind of off the beaten track. Nice picnic areas too!

Fun place for all

By kenkowoman |

Camping, fishing , boating, sailing, hiking, picnics, biking, dog park, swimming and ice fishing. Its a beautiful park with something for everyone!

Great views and wildlife

By Jeffrey D |

Stretched our legs walking various paths, including the wetlands loop, and were rewarded with close encounters with mule deer, coyotes, hawks, pelicans and a wide variety of smaller songbirds. Despite the gorgeous weather, the crowds were surprisingly light for a Sunday on a holiday weekend. A great place to escape and unwind.

Cherry Creek State Park

By eskyknows |

In the heart southeast Aurora and Centennial....a gem! Hike, bike, boat, jet ski, sail, water ski, shoot, camp, fish....delightful!

Plenty to do!

By ewachtler |

Huge state park in Aurora! Miles and miles of multi use trails, boating, dog park, camping. $10 day use pass or can purchase Colorado state pass. Bathrooms, but no sink or hand sanitizer. No water fountains. Great for a few hours or a couple of days. Would be beautiful in the Fall.

Beautiful park with a range of activities to do

By BKNY201 |

Cherry Creek State Park will not disappoint you. They have a range of activities to do for cycling, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc... I cycled. The trails were amazing with wildlife around. I wanted to sail but didn't plan accurately ha. The views are amazing, the air is fresh and it's just an awesome park to go to.

Walking

By Leyba303 |

Park surrounds a great reservoir which is wonderful anytime of year. Winter months provides for a great walking experience, a place to let your dog roam, and take in some fresh Colorado air. During summer months this a busy place with more activities avaialable.....camp sites ate usually full so make your reservations early. No matter the time of year, it a place to retreat within reach of the Denver Metro area.

Fun Place

By B.E. S |

Clean and several opportunities for activities. My wife and daughters rented the paddle boards. Inexpensive and enjoyable.

Biking, hiking, Animal watching, Boating. Mini Airplanes

By gonuggets |

There are good cover for both riding, biking and walking on the road. Most cars are very safe. A great to stop the Airport...the mini airport plane. Great look in the Water.

A beautiful place

By Michael B |

The park has something for everyone. It is maintained perfectly and just beautiful. Fishing, hiking, camping, bird watching, sailing, swimming, bike riding.

Love and hate

By Laurie S |

The last time my toes went in this water, the were told to get out. Turns out a dead guy needed to be pulled out. That was 35 years ago. Now, I curse this park as it jacks up traffic from DTC to the east side. Every. Single. Day. However, it being a state park and all, you should support that. So go. Perhaps on a nice bike ride on any one of the many trails.

Kayak

By Gladys |

They do not have any jet ski rentals available. You would need to bring your own. Kayaking was fun overall

Best place for RV camping

By Jerry B |

If you remember, make sure that you make reservations for this State Park. They book up fast so plan ahead. If you can get in, you will enjoy the wide open parking, clean sites, and paved parking pads.
The people are all very helpful and fast to react to any problem. This is the best place in the area and I highly recommend for an overnight or a week.......

Pretty park and nice place to walk

By trvlne1 |

We were here from out of town and found this park. It has a nice walking and cycling path that goes around the reservoir. We walked 6-6.5 miles around it. It looked like there were additional areas for cycling as well as the path we were on. There were people boating, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing and tubing on the lake. There were many picnic areas and many were very nice. It is a pretty area.

Off Leash Dog Park!

By Finnstas |

They have an off leash dog park here that is fairly clean with how many dogs and people that come through here. There is a place to unload your boat and take that out in the lake and a huge area to have some great bbqs in the summer.

Nature at its Best

By Deana C |

Beautiful Grounds. We saw a herd of deer, many species of birds and we even got to see several mongoose pop their heads out of the ground. Amazing walking paths and views.

Sanctuary of nature in the city

By Wyldecamp |

Biking, hiking, nature walks, boating, swimming, just hanging out on the beach, live music on Wednesdays, dog park, or a beautiful place to watch the sunset, everything you're looking for for an escape to nature in the middle of the city.

Embarassment

By Susan K |

Poorly maintained, dead grass and weeds abound, trash int he parking lot.
It's a neglected state park. Sad

Great Dog Park

By CUK |

Horrible lines on weekends in the summer but the park itself is superb. Dog park is exceptional. Acres and acres of free roaming for our little Pugs!

Nice lake

By hamiltdm |

Cherry Creek is a nice lake to spend the day on. It is on the south side of Denver. Great place for boating and camping.

Wonderful Park

By Kay S |

I went with my adult daughters & three grandchildren. There is a fee to drive into the park but we parked and rode bikes into park at no fee. Lots of flat paved trails to explore. The reservoir is close enough to get to easily and the swim beach is free. So swimsuits under clothes and we had a great day swimming.

Would return for sure.

By Kesha K |

Really beautiful park with clean level concrete and gravel sites. Very nice laundry facility and clean bathrooms. My only concern was that there were not soap dispensers or soap of any kind in the bathrooms.

Quiet afternoon

By melesac2016 |

$9 admission. Would have helped if the ranger would have directed us to the dog area to begin with. Beaches course sand and rocks. Fun kayaking on the reservoir. saw little crabs and minnows with an occasional random big splash. In saying this we are thinking about fishing tomorrow.

Where I come from State Parks are free for all to drive through or picnic....

By wrktravelr |

I did not enter the park because where I come from State Parks are free for all to visit. All I wanted was to drive in, maybe park for a little while because THERE IS NO PLACE IN ALL OF THE DENVER AREA THAT IS QUIET.

Great park!!

By Glendaho |

We RV a month in August and a month in February. This is a great park. Very well kept, bike trails and clean sites with full hookups. The only thing we have against it is the Denver traffic. Coming and going to the park has to be timed to keep from getting into the afternoon traffic.

Refreshing Close Get-Away!

By aur0rad0n |

We live in Aurora and have a pass. Often take a picnic or fast food, after work; watch sunset over the lake, gorgeous scenery in all seasons! The 2 of us renew our minds watching the water, sky, trees, wildlife; returning home in 15 min drive. Have had group picnics of 12 friends on a summer Sat night, again staying after dark for the Star Show in the clear sky! Not crowded except on holiday. Bro & Sis in law take camper from Littleton (15 miles) and stay 2 weeks every summer. They say its their fav campground w clean modern bathrooms/showers, bikes, hikes, relaxing after work. He goes to work in the city and she relaxes for vacation. We have had a catered Birthday Event at the Boat House which was unique and spectacular for about 50 people. Great food and location. Shooting range seems great, people always fishing from bank as well as boats. Waterski, paddle boats.. Lake large so not crowded. Highly recommend this bit of country in the city! (Need campsite reservation far ahead, but just drive in for day excursions.)

Best Dog Park ever!!

By Surfer1959 |

We go here 4 times a week with our dogs. Just wonderful! They run in the creek when they get hot and there seems to be only well behaved dogs and owners there!!

Wonderful Oasis

By Marilyn A |

Love sailing on the reservoir, bird watching and biking around the park. What a peaceful place to enjoy outdoors Colorado and the off leash dog park is fun for pups and people.

Busy on weekends to put it mildly!

By Doug K |

We visit several times a year and sometimes forget how much traffic it gets on the weekends. Biking is extremely popular there and boating is out of control. Huge boats going in circles in a bathtub. But there are hiking trails and a dog walking are well removed from the action. A shooting range and model airplane flying area round out the encouraged activities.

Love this little oasis in the middle of metro!

By GAE |

I take my grandson camping here often. It's so convenient. Nice beach and great bike trails. Lots to do here! Another great Colorado State Park!

Beware of the absurdities of Colorado State Parks before booking!

By Roadlovers |

This low rating review is not based on the park itself. It is large, clean, well kept, spacious sites and great amenities. However, we were never told about the $9.00 per day surcharge for our vehicle when we reserved our stay through ReserveAmerica. We got that surprise when we arrived at the check-in desk at the park. OK, paid the extra fee and left for our site with the normal paper work always received when checking in. After setting up we went to the rest rooms to shower only to have to return to our RV to get a supply of quarters for the required 25 cents per three minutes of water. We are now rapidly approaching the necessity of a cocktail before dinner. BUT WAIT!. The Rules of the Park sheet states that we cannot consume any adult beverage that contains more that 3.2% alcohol. Having a glass of wine would subject us to possible expulsion from the premises and possibly a fine..... AND THIS is ruled in a state that has legal marijuana stores in downtown Denver. Colorado lawmakers, we love the beauty of your state and will continue to visit it, but will be staying in privately owned parks that have realistic rules.

Horse back riding at 12 miles stable

By tiger1127 |

My daughter went to cherry creek park for one hour horse back riding and she had good time.
The park also has a dog park, so the dog can running freely with other dogs that seems to be fun.

Nice little surprise of a outdoor getaway

By Soodler |

We live close and I find new places to explore each time we go. Great boating can be had we like to take out the boat and eat dinner on the water.

Best You will get for a park in the city

By ajnavy04 |

This is a very nice park. It's big, has lots of activities including: hiking, camping, kayaking, swimming, a shooting range, horseback riding, and a variety of others. It's nice, but on the weekends it usually takes as long to get into the state park as it takes to just drive into the mountains.

Pretty but crowded

By sonibroc |

I could NOT relax here - there were way too many people competing for space. While accessibility to the 'burbs and major metro area is great, it's too difficult to paddle around.

Spring stay

By cccgsc |

We stay here every spring and fall on our way between the mountains of Colorado and the Rio Grand Vally. Most sites are level and clean. Deer wander through the park all the time.

Great Park

By Gruffco |

In the heart of Denver this place is a gem! Fishing, boating, camping, cooking, picnicking, birding, shooting, hiking, and biking.

A beautiful venue that has it all...

An oasis in the middle of Denver!

By Kathy |

What a lovely gem in the middle of a sprawling urban area! We are spending two weeks here visiting family in Parker, and couldn't ask for a more comfortable setting. Lots of shade, paved sites, full hook-ups, relatively quiet for the amount of traffic that passes by (tip: For the quietest sites try Buffalo and Abilene loops. They are furthest from traffic outside the park). Bring your bicycles, as there are numerous trails throughout the park; or your boat and/or fishing gear! So many outdoor opportunities are available here! The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the cost. On top of the nightly cost ($41 in summer of 2019) you have to purchase a park pass: $10/day or $83/annual. Staying fourteen days, it was cheaper to purchase the annual pass, although we live out of state. In addition, you pay for showers! $1.25 for 7 1/2 minutes. So this ended up being the most expensive stay in our two-month trip. The location is central to everything Denver and very convenient to any amenity you require. If cost isn't an issue and central location in a serene setting are important, do yourself a favor and stay at Cherry Creek State Park.

From a past employee.

By lovethose750s |

This park is a great escape in the heart of Denver with boating, hiking, cycling, fishing, a model airfield, and camping all available. There is also a shooting range and marina that are operated by a separate companies. The price may seem high to some, but you have to remember that Colorado State Parks does not get tax money and relays heavily on the fees it charges for entrance, camping, and licenses. The water basin fee also goes to another agency that does projects in and around CCSP and does not go directly to Colorado State Parks. It is best to know the rules before you go, it will keep you from having a bad time. Check for fire bans to make sure you can have your grill on the swim beach. The swim beach has a roped off section which is the only place you can swim. Dogs and glass are not allowed on the swim beach but else where it is fine. Your dog can go in the water but does have to remain on a leash at all times. No where the no wake zones are (there are huge maps at both ramps). Watch you speed. That about covers 90% of the things the rangers will talk to you about. Lastly, the lines getting in. They are horrible, I know, but if it is a holiday, weekend, or overall nice day, expect that there will be many others trying to go to the park, Get there early to get a good parking spot/spot on the beach on holidays and don't forget to bring cash or a check in case there is no one at the gate house. The self serve passes will save you from a $25-$50 ticket for not have a pass.

Wonderful park in the middle of the city

By William B |

Greater Denver has grown up around Cherry Creek State park but for the most part you wouldn't know if once you're past the entrance gate. We spent four days here while visiting family in Denver. Facilities are are excellent and well-maintained. Only complaint was that they seem to nickel and dime you. In addition to nightly camping fee, there is a daily park entrance fee, a water fee and you need quarters to take a shower.

2 Sailing Adventures

By ChefPlease |

Our first event was the 37th Hobie Day outing with over 200 participants. The weather cooperated with warm temps. We took advantage of the beachfront and were able to enjoy a nice picnic lunch. Ramps down to the water made it easier to navigate the sand with wheelchairs

The second outing was near the Lake House. This was much more difficult to navigate as the ramp down to the pier was quite steep. Nevertheless, we had a great time sailing in the boats provided. We had a sunset dinner after our sailing. GReat views and, once again, wonderful weather.

Best Dog Park Ever

By TSMertz |

Can't say enough great things about the dog park at Cherry Creek and the continued improvements made.
The area is always clean and trails well maintained. The acesss to the water for our 4-legged family members is perfect.
Thank you !

Great place for a walk or a drive!

By Jochmarq |

I love Cherry Creek State Park. I live nearby so visit several times a week. I look for wildlife and birds as I am a photographer. I have enjoyed photographing many birds including eagles, owls, woodpeckers, red-winged blackbirds, ducks, geese, pelicans, kestrels, and many others. I also see coyotes, deer, prairie dogs, and other animals often. There are a number of trails for short or longer hikes. Many bikers enjoy the park on the weekends. You can ski, fish, swim, hike, bike, picnic, and camp. I feel very fortunate to live just minutes from such a lovely place even though I am in a big city.

our local fishing hole

By bisbee25 |

Love cherry creek and it's easy accessibility. It's hard to find beachfront property in Colorado and having this practically in our backyard makes up for it! I've spent countless Sundays and Mondays fishing, kayaking, or picnicking here. The only bummer can be it's a small lake and the jet skiiers can really dominate the peace and quiet. :( if you can tune out their senseless droning and chainsawing about then it can be a relaxing day!

Oasis in the city

By Teresa F |

We are state parks pass holders and love to come here for boating, fishing and water recreation. There are many biking trails and an outdoor shooting range at this facility. Boat registration can be done here as well as inspections.

Nice place within the city

By kcs r |

Nice place for a refuge in a busy city. Lots of bicycle traffic.
Lots of places to sneak away and be by yourself if you want.
Radio controlled airplane location, shooting range, lots of trails.

A little slice of heaven in the city!

By DawnShip |

This place is awesome and located right in Aurora. It is like a state park in a city! There are hiking trails, a swim beach, a place to boat - jet ski- or kayak - places to have lunch, walk your dog and you get all this (a whole car load) for $9!
We only spent 3 hours there, but if I had known what all there was to this gem of a place, we would have mapped out a whole day to spend here.

Love it here

By Josh T |

I hope you stay away though. It's already overcrowded in the summer time and on the weekends. If you want to go boating I suggest you seek water elsewhere as the launch line is limited and you will likely experience a wait! Good luck camping here as reservations go early to the expensive big rigs. The yaht club mentality at a public state park! Yuppieville cherry creek car campers!

Ride in on your bike and I'm sure you'll not pay to use the park and bike path like the majority of offenders!

Cheers!

Beautiful

By Sonali Hinduja |

Such a beautiful place. What pleasure to see countless families barbecuing, cycling together, dancing, running around. Saw adorable ducks in the lake too. Really pleasant around August.

Cherry Creek State Park

By BobHandTV |

So a few things about Cherry Creek State Park.It is huge so there is are a lot of places to explore the reservoir, the nature trails, the beach. In terms of parking it is $9 to park but you can park at the High School across the street. Also worth it to bike around the park (no charge for biking) and a lot of the roads are paved and it is a long ride. In addition there are a lot of jet skis, boats, etc that launch off the boats and some for rent for out of towners (Paddleboats, Jet Skis)

Camping and Pizza Delivery Too!

By Penny D |

The campground is always full, so you must reserve months in advance.

We just spent two weeks here waiting for our new home to be completed. We moved four times in the park, because they couldn't accommodate us in the same site for two weeks (due to the dates, it was our fault, not theirs). I walked the dog MANY times in the campground and there are only two sites I wouldn't recommend (88 and 94). All the other sites are VERY nice. Some have shade, some have sun, and many have a combination of the two. Abilene, Pioneer, and Coyotee Loops are particularly nice and have full hookups. The sites are VERY spacious and there is a LOT of space between neighbors. This is one of my favorite reasons to camp here.

We watched deer meander through the campground, saw a wild turkey, heard two coyotes, and had campfires. All the hosts were very nice and helpful. We even ordered pizza one night and met the driver at the entrance gate (about 1 mile)!

The laundry mat could use improvement. It needed major dusting, there is no seating, and no place to hang your clothes. I used a washer (there are 4) that ended up out of order because after the cycle ended, it restarted the cycle by pouring water on all my freshly spun clothes. A week later, it was still not fixed (though it had a sign on it stating it was out of order).

Overall this is a nice park with lots of biking trails, picnic areas, and great views. It truly is a serene place in the middle of the suburbs!

Everything to offer

By cintuchi |

From boating and sailing to hiking multiple places around the lake bicycling paths to go around all over the place. Water sports and much more. Just go there and have lots of fun.

Great for locals

By Cathystroman |

This is Colorado's idea of a local boating option. Having grown up in Michigan near Lake Michigan it is disappointing. Their idea of a beach area is basically ground up dirt and a little sand. The water is not good swimming due to all the boating, the water is polluted. Having said that if your expectations are not too high it is close to the city. They have good trails and a decent small marina. If you are use to large bodies of water this will disappoint you.

Archery

By Susie S |

A beautiful afternoon at Cherry Creek State Park. Archery rental bow $30, parking $9, had personal how-to help from Park Ranger. Take the drive and enjoy the majesty of the range and mountains.

Bathrooms in the rental booth Axe throwing, skeet, target practice. Safety presentation and gear throughly explained.

Hiking

By Bryan L |

We went for the 1 Jan hike and enjoyed it. Good place for bike riding, hiking, fishing and camping. Nice park and for us it is close by!

Jet ski heaven

By Jooleed2 |

Cherry Creek is a small lake but it's local a quick trip, and great on a hot summer day. There is enough room for a boat but better for jet skis. Sandy bottom, some fish, and a good semi-beach day in Colorado without driving for hours.

Afternoon delight!

By Julie D |

Cherry Creek is the perfect spot to gather your thoughts, we sit and fish until the sun goes down, This is the best time for fishing just cool enough to enjoy!

Beach without an ocean

By Babsbunny77 |

If you're like me and you moved to Colorado from the East Coast, sometimes you get homesick for the sand between your toes. This place is great for the outdoor enthusiast. If you bike, run, swim, boat, paddleboard, or kayak, this is your zone. Been here a few times. Pro-tip: If you love hiking and want to make this place part of your summer life, as well, get the annual state park pass! You save so much! I've been hiking about 5x and to CC State Park about 2-3x since May and the pass has already almost paid for itself!

Park with a lot to see

By Alash1 |

This park has boating, picnicking, hiking trails, biking trails, dog walks, skeet shooting, and more. In the winter it’s great for cross country skiing and snow shoeing.
If your into wildlife you can see various deer, coyotes, multiple bird species and more.

The price for this is nominal but it’s not free. The location is close enough that your drive there is short.
I highly recommend a visit in all seasons.

Nice trails!

By Ken Q |

There are nice hiking trails and you can enjoy views of the foothills while going on short or long walks.

Great!

By Edorts9 |

Love this place. And my dog loves this place. The streams are so fun. And everyone i run into here is so friendly!

I enjoy it every chance I get!

By alicebC1818YS |

I live about 20 minutes east of this park. I meet friends here to walk, We camp here when we don't want to travel far. The campsites are hosted and are clean and quiet with many trees. We ride our bikes through the park and they just completed a packed rock trail which completes a full loop around the water. Restrooms are spaced nicely throughout the park. The water is consistently used by fishermen. Early morning and late evening, you will see rowing teams practice. Summer finds boats and jet skis bobbing and racing. There is a nice no wake zone for kayaks and canoes (look for the pelicans). A swim beach offers a roped swim area and snack bar. There are several pavilions for big picnics and many benches and picnic tables for use. All year, you have the opportunity to see coyotes, pheasant, mule and white tail deer. From December to March, the bald eagles come for the ice breakage. Owls and hawks build nests here. I heard there are wild turkeys but I've never seen them. Bring a camera and binoculars. There is access to a dog park and a shooting range. Views of the Rockies are plentiful and the sunsets are breathtaking. I love this park!

Eh

By MJB73 |

If you like crowded lake beaches and stinky lake water, go for it. No concessions anywhere? I guess everyone brings their own. Thankfully, the $10 entry fee allowed us entry to Roxborough State Park the next day before noon!

Great place for a run!

By Theresa H |

I needed a place to do an eight mile run for my half-marathon training while in Aurora. As luck would have it, it's exactly 8 miles around the lake. The trails are well maintained, and there are plenty of restrooms around the perimeter of the lake. The mountain views were spectacular! We are moving to Aurora, and we will get an annual park pass in order to enjoy the amenities. It looked like the picnic shelters and beach area were really nice.

Favorite place in Denver

By Sheila T |

We visit here often. So many options! We love that we can drive a few minutes and end up escaping the city. We enter from the entrance by Cherry Creek High School. Our favorite activities include

Walks
Bike ride
Rent jet skis
Stand up paddle boarding
Camping!!!! Nice bathrooms & wifi!
Swim beach
Picnics & BBQ
Shooting range
Looking for wildlife
And more walks!

Beautiful, and tons of things to do....or do absolutely nothing!

By jessie'smom |

Spent several hours riding around, walking, sitting and watching wildlife. This park is gorgeous and there are lots of things to do: boat, shoot, bike, hike, walk, boat, model airplanes. We spent the day just "recharging" and it was very nice.

By Samantha D |

Clean park, can swim, kayak, boat, dog park, picnic, fish, trails, wild life. Enjoy spending the day at this park enjoying nature.

Okay

By Emily L |

There was lots of trails but not super lot of beautiful scenery, which is what I was hoping for. Maybe will try again in the spring.

Another Great Colorado State Park!

By Douglas W |

Colorado State Parks are always good bets. Cherry Creek is no exception. Excellent RV, Trailer and Tent camping. Has full hookups available. Large sites with level pads. About 1/3 cheaper than a regular RV park, and MUCH nicer. Is almost always full in the summer though, so book early online. Has a large reservoir for all kinds of water activities, full marina with rentals, Small sandy beach for children. LOTs of good walking trails and biking trails.

Dog's Paradise!

By SarahNoella |

I bring my dog to the off leash area once or twice a week. The water is almost always cold, but the dogs love it! There is shallow water for smaller dogs, or those who don't like deep water, and there is deeper water (maybe 3 feet) for the swimmers. There are always people with their pups and trails everywhere! The off leash area is fenced and the dogs generally roam free. It's mostly clean, although I've come across some poop that hadn't been picked up and stepped on. Otherwise it's a beautiful place and fun for dogs and their owners!

There is an entrance fee of $9 (for the park) + $2 (for the dog off leash area). Since we go so often and love state parks we opted for the annual parks pass which covers all 40-something state parks and the Cherry Creek Dog Off-Leash Area, as well as the Chatfield Reservoir Dog Off-Leash Area.

beautiful

By lilian c |

Great place for hikes. There are no significant elevations and plenty of trails for hikers only and for hikers and bikers. There is an astounding amount of wildlife to be seen. The facilities are excellent and the trails are well kept. There are also some wonderful views.

Bike riding and dog park

By Andy H |

Great local resource for biking as you can ride in for free or park at CC HS. The roads could use some repaving but overall not bad. The dog park is a walk from the parking lot and dogs need to stay on the leash until you get into the fenced area. WARNING, there is a deep pool of muddy water so if you're dog likes water be prepared to give them a bath 😎. Also there is a $2 charge to bring your dog.

Nice Place

By Christina Shreds |

Good place to spend the day. Great spot to BBQ and picnic by the water. On weekends and holidays get there early! A few nice little sandy beach spots to relax and some nice camping sites. Nice place to bike ride around the lake.

Quiet Haven in the Midst of Busy City

By cofeebeans |

When in Denver for any reason, this is a great stop to connect with nature. There are lots of walking and/or hiking trails throughout the park as well as a lake to walk around. I love that it does not take a huge time commitment to come here.

Hanging out on the boat

By Cindy M |

We have been coming here for many years. Nice small reservoir to hang out on our boat. The kids love to get pulled around on tubes behind the boat.

We have a car pass and love this park, always take a walk, boat ride, ride & use the gun range!

By Heather Dawson Schrock |

We go to this park often it has so many experiences! Never the same due to endless options to entertain yourself or exercise yourself. Rent a Kayak or small sailboat, rent a bike, skidoo, or shoot your guns at the shooting range in this large park, fly model air planes too. Endless, hike and listen to Prairies Dogs also

Good day of fishing

By diana l |

What a fun time on this little gem of a lake fishing for trout and walleye. Kinda of in the middle of the city but once on the lake you kinda forget that with great views of the Rocky Mountains as your back drop.

Rambled in park

By Barbara L |

Walking in Cherry Creek State Park is a lovely nature experience. You never know what you'll encounter whether it be Hawks, deer, coyotes, all kinds of birds and of course the busy prairie dogs. Just be mindful of the bike riders.

Beautiful

By mrsdinker45 |

Beautiful location. We had anticipated fishing with our family. Due to flooding we were not very successful. Will have to try again on another visit

well used, but accessible park

There are multiple walking or biking trails within the park, and multiple parking pull-offs. The swimming areas are busy. Bring sun shade with you if it is a sunny day.

A stunning place to jog, see a little wildlife

By RobsNorris |

A stunning place to go for a walk/jog/cycle with the whole family. You even get to see some deer and rabbits on your route. Best to go early evenings when the sun is going down great, so picturesque with Beautiful sunsets.

A very nice to visit.

By Maria F |

You can go walking, fishing, or go camping. Lots of natural animals(eagles, wild turkeys), sometimes deer.

picnic areas

By kellyann2kool |

The picnic areas are great. We rented one and had our wedding there, it was really nice and private.

Years in aurora and didn't visit till recently

By Harrison’s |

I'm not sure I completely understand the additional cost above the Colorado state park fee but inside you will find it's worth it. With a man made beach, parks, just ok bike paths (some cld use some work) you can picnic, swim, rent jet skis and more. Defiantly a nice getaway without actually having to leave the city. If you don't have time to get out of town then here you can at least feel like you have gotten away

Nice lake large park

By richard s |

Near to dog park, riding park, shooting park. Trails around lake and good picnic tables. Marina where rental craft can be had

Beautiful park

By agoofygrle1 |

We visited this park while on vacation and went biking. Huge area, nice trails paved and gravel for biking. We biked on the trail around the park by the water. Very lovely. We enjoyed our visit.

Nice park!

By DC20005 |

Cherry Creek Park is a wonderful area not far at all from downtown Denver, and has quite a bit to offer: boating, camping, fishing, picnic areas, nature watching, biking, hiking and shooting. There are dozens of trails of varying lengths, all with unique characteristics that make them memorable. For those visiting for either business or pleasure, this is an EASY and great spot to get away for a morning or afternoon.

Great for dogs

By Travelguru666 |

Came here with my dog. Throughout my travels I have never seen such an awesome dog park. It's HUGE, lots of green, a creek where dogs can swim. I would move to Denver just for this dog park if I could. Usually the dog parks I go to consist of a dirt lot that is fenced off. This was doggy heaven.

Not the greatest

By tntays |

I’m not sure we found the whole park. What we could find was just walking trails with $10 parking fee and a horse riding stable. Wasn’t what we expected.

Day at the lake

By scardenas997 |

A wonderful day at the Cherry Creek lake tubing with two of my amazing kids. The day was caudy but the water was amazing worm and there was not to many people. Perfect day for tubing.

Beautiful!

By melissa t |

It is a beautiful State Park. Very clean and a large park! The views are very pretty. You can also bring your dog!

Nice location in the middle of Denver

By Dee D |

Nice place with some nice hikes. We like being by water and we like that there is a swim area for our dogs. We stayed here at the beginning of the week; garbage from the weekend had not been taken care of...garbage everywhere - overflowing the containers and on the ground - very unpleasant. We might try it again.

Spacious campsites and convenient to Denver

By Heather Gebbia |

We stayed here for 3 nights while passing through on our way to Breckenridge for skiing. This was a great location for shopping for ski gear. There was a lot of snow at the campground which was so pretty, and only the Abilene loop was open in January. It was great to have full hookups at a state park. The sites in the Abilene loop are spacious. The camp hosts were so friendly and we enjoyed talking with them. We would definitely stay here again if in the Denver area. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all worked well.

Denver's only Beach!

By CrisWilki |

You don't have to go too far to find a beach in Denver, it is nice and packed with people and fun things to do. You can bring your water toys and a barbeque and plan a party. The water is nice and clean, refreshing for the hot days of summer. You can bring your motor toys, and not motorized toys, sailing and paddle boarding even canoeing. You will find nice facilities and if you avoid holidays and weekends, it is very peaceful.

30 minute wait to get in, no mowing?

By thyme2eat |

Need better system to get into park. If go to grocery store wait 30th get back in . Sometimes on the weekend only 1 person at the gate. Why aren't campsites mowed

Most reasonable rates

By Diana M |

RV parks in Colorado are so expensive. This state park is awesome. It has a huge reservoir for all the water sports you can think of. It's right in the center of Denver's busiest areas so you're close to nature and nightlife.

Pay showers and laundry ($3/load) onsite.

Great family park.Good for walking and biking.

By Gene B |

Great family park. Good for walking and biking. Weekends in the summer can get pretty crowded. but weekdays are always good.

Best Dog Park

By Lizn05 |

It’s a ginormous off leash dog park! Season pass and day pass is pricey but you will really enjoy coming here with your furry friend. You can even get some cardio time while he’s running around. There’s a creek that you all can walk through and your dog can play with other dogs. I live in Cali now and I haven’t found one like this dog park. I miss coming here with my puppy.

My family loves coming here in the summer. I recommend getting an early start, that way you can get a spot and just chill out for the day. In my opinion Cherry Creek is a bit small for a boat, however we have a wave runner and always have a blast. We get there early, my wife and friends set up while a buddy and myself go launch the wave runner. We play in the water and do a lot of grillin and chillin.

Nice park

By Johnny-Vineyard |

This park is a great place to take a run. There is a trail around the lake that is pretty. There is a swim area too. You can ride bikes

Very nice State Park

By Richard G |

We always enjoy our visits to this park. It helps that it is just a few miles from home. Great campground and picnic facilities.

Boat Rental - Pelican Bay

By BSC12 |

First time renting a boat (pontoon). Rented from 9a-1p. Rental shop doesn't open until 9am which already burns up your time for renting. No boat anchor which made it difficult for fishing. The boat operated well. Family of 4 adults, had a fun day on the water. Be sure to check in advance where the boat rentals occur; not intuitive. Still, we will probably do this again someday.

Dog park

By nate h |

Great open space off leash dog park. Great scenery and very peaceful in the winter when lake is ice. Your dog will love it!!

Beautifully peaceful

By Dat N A |

This was bigger than we expected. It was so pretty and quiet. Lots of people biking and a few walking the trails. Wildlife was everywhere.

This review is several years ago when living in Colorado Springs.

By Richard H S |

colorful with some snow , nice . swimming {summertime of course}, water sking , fishing , Being from Florida (born & raised ) it lacks my kind of water relaxation ( it is a manmade resevoir)

Great Place to Relax

By Mike T |

The weather was fantastic during my trip to Denver and so I took the opportunity to visit the park.

It was very quiet. Not busy at all. Families riding bikes on the pathway. People fishing.

If I stay near this park again then I will definitely make a point of returning.

Ok

By tinkerbsb |

It was ok I wasn't as awed as I felt I would be. I did like the views around the lake of the mountains, very much still snow covered. We did butterfly hill pull out. Saw some pairie dogs & walked a little. Again they have restroom that are vault & composting toilets. The visitors center had very little & no modern bathrooms or maps of the park which would have been helpful it also seems like some locals use the park road to get away from the traffic on the road outside the park and seem to get mad that you are actually doing the speed limit. I might go back if I was to come back to the state but I don't know that I would.

Dirty

By Kim H |

There was trash and broken glass laying around when we went. Only plus is that it has an area for the kids to play in. Never plan to go back.

Lovely state park in the middle of Denver.

By abentongo |

Though not on the top of a visitor's list if they are in Denver for only a few days, but a state park in the middle of Denver is wonderful. There is a large lake for boating and fishing, great dog park, camping and a lovely beach. I bike there often.

Good for families, couples, friends and individuals seeking beauty and solace in the city.

Graet park

By GaryJones777 |

Beautiful lake, well maintained trails. Nice marina and RV park. Very dog friendly with a separate area for off-leash dog running. Huge picnic areas that you can book for large groups, or small ones with no reservations needed. Great fishing, skiing & boating.

Every other city wished they had a park like this.

By Jonathan S |

We love to camp and this was our first family trip to the Denver area. So, we decided to give this place a try. So glad we did. Great place to camp and being in the metro area made everything we wanted to do very convenient. Saw deer every day which is always a plus. Rocky Mountains as the back drop around a fire at night, you can't beat it. Everyone that worked there was great. Looking forward to more trips there.

Very nice place

By Vernon B |

Overall was a five. Clean, level for Motorhomes, spacious site and very convenient hookups. Really, the only dissatisfaction was with the internet. I guess we were just too far away. Spouse says it was fine at the bathhouse/laundry. Only time I was able get any decent signal was about 5:00AM. Was not trying to stream - just check emails.

Cellular data for Verizon and AT&T was pretty good.

It is a wonderful place to visit. There is some road noise but not much. All but one neighbor in our ten days were very quiet. Saturday night was pretty noisy due to the Corn hole tournament until close to midnight.

If Denver is your goal, this is a great place to stay.

Always a Gem!

By annebethmiller |

I try to get over to Cherry Creek State Park at least once a week, year round. It is always a beauty, always wildlife doing something interesting... between the deer, the wide variety of birds, the water and always, the magnificent sunsets. So many trails, tables by the water, benches scattered all around... wonderful for exercise or for quiet.

Just a jewel

By brian |

What a great place to hike, bike, running or BBQ. Highly recommended place to chill out. Easily visible from the air.

Fun place

By gazzillion |

There are so many activities to do here: biking, hiking, camping, picnicing, building sand castles, fishing, boating, and the list goes on! This is the closest there is to a lake in the arid Denver area! Great for families and people of all ages!!!!

Good stop to kill time on the way to the airport

By PuraVidaSTL |

We had several hours to kill before our flight departed and found this park while driving from Colorado Springs to the airport. It had a large lake, biking and I believe some hiking trails. We did not get to explore the entire park but we did spend some time by the lake which has a sandy beach area. It was peaceful and relaxing before getting onto a crowded plane.

Love Hiking Here!

By Ellen C |

Wonderful park to hike, no matter what your skill level! Love walking the dogs here, no matter what the weather! Wish I lived in CO - I would frequent this park all the time!

Lovely campground

By kim d |

Stayed at the campground for several days and loved it. We were lucky enough to get a shady sight( many dont have much shade) with a large " yard" The walking and biking trails are wonderful and the lake is beautiful and made a great base for out of towners to explore the city as well enjoy the peace and quiet of the campground.

State Park....or state dump? Not sure what we visited.

By James7764 |

I always try to give an honest opinion of our experience when we visit a place. We are residents of Denver, but never visited Cherry Creek State Park. Perhaps it was the name that formed an unrealistic and heightened expectation of what we were going to experience. Like most things in Colorado, the State Park entry fee is overpriced. For $9.00...I am not even sure what we were to expect. For the price though, you would expect something decently clean. Yes, there was some pretty grasslands and trees...but that was about the only thing. The water is disgusting, and the beach looked like the perfect inspiration for the typhoid shots we've been holding out on. Each to their own opinion...just not a place we would visit again.

Bike riding

By jgirl2fly |

This is a great place for bike riding as well as walking on paved and unpaved trails. Very beautiful especially when it is hot outside.

Great RV park

By tazman1953 |

We have been to over 100 RV parks and this one ranks in the top 5. we were in site 86 which is a pull through put sideways, everything worked great and the way they have laid the park out no neighbors, great design huge sites

Beautiful location

By Richard B |

The drive along Dam Rd to get there is also a nice vantage point for great views. And a nice alternative to Interstate 225 for getting around.

OPEN SPACES TO TAKE YOUR FURRY FRIEND.

By KARIN D |

This is a great place to walk your pooch....walk one-self...or meet for a picnic. If you are lucky, you can glimpse some great wildlife too! I loved taking my pets for leashed and unleashed walks.

Not huge, but right in Denver

By Mike F |

We've come here several times to walk around the lake. We see many fishermen, not sure if they catch any fish. Our son's favorite place is the family shooting range. There is a special section for model airplanes to fly. Folks bring their dogs there to walk and play. there is a rental office for some water sports. Never tried them.

We've never had a problem with parking, even finding places with some shade for our car.

I'm not happy with all the duck or geese droppings, but don't know what the park can do about that.

Nice Park

By dragonmatrixx |

This is a nice part and there is a lot to do. Bike trails, camping, gun range, boating all in one place. There is a fee, I bought the year pass which is good for more parks.

Great paved walking trail

By Jame C |

We chose the park for a long morning walk and found parking nearby that connected to the trails in the park itself. The trails are wide and paved in most cases and shared with bicycles. The trail along the lake with great views and then on a cinder portion to butterfly hill is particularly nice. Restrooms are available.

Love the dog park

By Molly G |

The Cherry Creek State Park is a great gem in the middle of Denver. It's huge. I've only visited portions of it but I love it. We live right behind a portion of the trail and it's a great place to hike, there's even cool bridges & manmade rock formations over the water. I often take my dog to the dog park and it's a blast! A huge area to essentially hike with your dog and they can splash & play in the creek.

So beautiful

By Christine K |

There are lots of great things to do for the whole family. We rode bikes and hiked on the gorgeous trails.

Greart Biking

By Fred K |

If you are a biker Cherry Creek is SUPER with outstanding mountain vistas and occasional wildlife to view. Love it!

Park for everybody

By romanpiekosz |

What a huge area where everybody can find something interesting. You can bring the gun and shut to the target, you can bring dog and let him play in this great dog park, you can bring boat and go over the lake, you can ride a bike, a horse, you can run or just take a walk. If you like to play with radio controlled airplane models, there is spot for you too.
This is great place and I recommend it for everybody.

Awesome State Park.

By paula_denver |

I love going to this park. It's hard to believe that it is situated in the middle of metro Denver. The campsites are clean and well-kept. They also have a place for group camping which is nice. The reservoir is good for boating and other water sports but sometimes in spoiled by the e-coli runoff.

Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, CO It's a nice park. Clean and quiet camping with many activities.

By BigL0256 |

I've camped here several times in recent years. I'm actually here now. I have a 21' trailer. This park is always quiet as long as you don't mind a little bit of highway hiss and the restrooms and other facilities are always clean. The park is on the south side of town. It's situated near hwy 225 which is a major beltway route. The location is just far enough south to be "out" of the city but still close. Cherry Creek shopping mall is only about 15 minutes. Downtown would be ten minutes more. Overall it's a nice park. There are lots of full hookups. Fishing and boating are available on the rather large reservoir and there's "sort of" a swimming beach. It's prett good. Make reservations well in advance.

Great place to hike.

By Tom A |

Love this park. Not to be confused with the dog park that's right next to it, this state park has more trails than you'll be able to hike. Does get a bit hot in the summer, with limited cover, but that's a minor complaint -- go early! Also helps to go early to beat the crowds.

Nice place

By bgregg21 |

Visited here in one of our day trips and it was a nice place and I would go back there for sure. As well as the zoo and the science museum

Nice park yet no water to drink

By pesmou |

If you visit a big park like that, paying a fee to enter you expect that there should be a fountain that works inside or at least a place where you can buy a bottle of water. Unfortunately I had to leave the park early and didn't have a chance to see it properly because of that

Great State Park!

By Heather R |

My family has been going to Cherry Creek State park for years, primarily for camping. Love their campsites and amenities. Even though you're in the middle of the city you feel very removed - very peaceful. Great fishing, amazing bike and walking paths and even great entertainment! This summer they opened the new boat house and they do live entertainment cocktails and food in Wednesday nights in the summer. Highly recommend checking that out in Summer 17!

Great Dog Park- no place to review this on its own.

By CalGal63 |

The Dog Park is off Parker Road. South of the Main entrance on Parker Road. Has a nice 2 mile loop and several nice river access points. Went with my friend and 2 dogs who absolutely loved running in the open space together and then cooling off in the river. It does cost. I don't know the cost for a day or year but my friend has a CO State Park Pass and a Dog Park Pass. She said on a weekend morning you will want to get there early or you'll have to wait in line for a parking spot. They could use a bigger parking lot. We got there around 0815 on a Sunday and got a spot.

Visited for the dog park, ridiculous lines

By John H |

We traveled to Cherry Creek on a Sunday in early April. I was surprised to see such a giant line upon our arrival to the dog park area, they had multiple signs up advertising there were two lines, one for pass holders, such as us; and one for people purchasing passes. But as we got closer we saw there was only one line for everyone, so pass holders had to wait and wait while people purchased passes there, or were told to go to another location because the staff at the gate were volunteers and they couldn't take money for certain things. It seems like a ridiculously inefficient way to run the park.

Once we got into the dog park area things were fine. There were a ton of people and their dogs enjoying the nice spring day. We had no issues with our dog, or the two young children we were with. The river was running nicely which allowed the animals to get in and have a great time fetching thrown balls.

The pathway was a bit rough in some areas, but that seemed mostly to be from the wet mud that had hardened. I am sure that will be worn down as the year progresses.

I would visit this spot again with our dog, and hope that the line was a bit more reasonable.

Waterski

By doughauck |

Perfect for that early morning ski before work. Come early for the flat water. Also recontaminate your boat for free.

Large Multi-use Park

By Lammer411 |

I am so lucky to have easy access to Cherry Creek State Park. It is a great place for cycling, walking and bird watching. They have a nice paved path that goes from the west entrance to the east side of the reservoir and down to the south side of the park. There is now a gravel path below the dam on the south side, so you can circle the lake on your bicycle. There are also smaller gravel paths for walking.I see many birds around the lake and the small pond that I didn't even knew were in Colorado. The park can fill up (with cars) on summer weekends, so come early on those days. There are also several entrances where you can walk or bike in for free. I often spend a couple hours hear getting some exercise and my nature fix.

Great city swimming

By Nicole H |

This is a great place to go to beat the heat in the summertime. If you can get past the idea of the contents of the water it is really a great day trip. The beach is often really busy but its big and there is room for everyone. The kids will love it and that makes it worth the day! there is a little playground right on the beach

What a wonderful state park!

By Walter D |

Such a great place that we are planning a return trip next year with whole family. Campsites are very large and spacious. In an RV so often we are crammed into small space, but not here. You have lots of privacy and sometimes don’t even realize there are other people around. Deer roam around the area freely and tolerate the humans with little concern for their well-being. There’s a swim beach over at the lake and we heard that the fishing is pretty good here, too. With the lake there is boating opportunities as well. Lots of hiking and biking trails seem to draw lots of people.

Great Summer Fun

By Harry L |

Great place for fun in the sun. Nice sandy sloping swim beach. Boat ramps on both sides of the lake. Picnic areas throughout with some covered tables next to the road on the southwest side. Bike trails, concrete and asphalt throughout park. A marina in the SW corner. If it a sunny weekend, I'm likely on the beach or on the boat.

Fantastic!

By Robin Parker |

Great SP! Convenient to lots of places near Denver. Awesome bike paths and overall a great campground. The park was super clean thanks to great campground hosts! I would go back in a skinny minute!!

Big beautiful park with a large reservoir

By Philip L |

We went for a drive through and a walk around across winter time when a lot of the water oriented activities were closed. The park is well laid out with lots of places to drive along or stop off and let life go by. The reservoir is very big and the water is nice to see being in landlocked area like Denver.
It does feel like you are in the middle of no where at times though I imagine across summer and summer weekends this place could turn into a zoo with cars, boats, bikes and the like.
If you do not have a parks pass for your car (I think they cost around $70 per year and give access to most Colorado state parks) you will get charged to enter.

This is NOT camping...

By mtnmanclp |

Very practical layout and reasonably well kept. Nice campsites and lots of paved trails, but far from the wilderness experience typically associated with camping... Constant traffic noise from surrounding highways and jets from DIA; many inconsiderate campers that ignore their barking dogs; and the shooting range across the way provides non-stop gunfire. If you value peace & quiet on your campout, better find someplace else! Nice concept, but impossible to replicate the reprise of "the woods" in the middle of a noisy city? Only wildlife you should expect to see are scavenging squirrel and Magpies. Okay, if you have business in Denver, but certainly not a typical relaxing camping experience!

Always a wait...need to add parking

By Jamie K |

We usually come for the dog park (we have an annual pass).

If you enter off of Orchard Road, there is almost always a wait - even if there is parking available.

We typically drive to the other entrance and walk the 1/4 mile to the leash free area.

Wish they would add parking near Orchard Road - there is certainly room to add another lot.

Always crowded with locals

By Gary S |

This is a nice little park. I often bicycle the south end which is not as accessible by car as the north end. At the south end, there are wetlands and a lazy little creek that can be explored on bicycle or on foot. Very few people venture into the area on the south end. The main lake, marina, and beach are always crowded, congested and littered.

Best place to stay if you want to be close to the city!

By Keith N |

If you want to be close to anything to do in Denver you have to stay at Cherry Creek State Park. Not only does it have fishing, shooting, biking, hiking and nature trails it is close to golf, downtown and anywhere you might want to be in Denver. An easy run down to Colorado Springs (we went to the Garden of the Gods). Deer, geese and ducks; oh my!!

Pretty dull

By ben f |

Didn't have high expectations. Still was disappointed. Of all the things we did on our long weekend in the Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs area, this was the least enjoyable. I realize we were likely in a flood plain, but infrastructure was very limited. We just sat on the "beach" a few hours. Not much green there.

Great time in the park

By Gene B |

Always a great place for an evening walk. Some of the best sunsets in Colorado at various times of the year. Lots of wildlife that you can see without having to travel too far

Lots of hiking and gorgeous area!

By Leah B |

Stayed in LoDo but wanted to get out and explore so took the H train down to the Dayton station and took in a day of hiking/walking. Was NOT disappointed! Beautiful lake, trails were gorgeous and the weather cooperated. It was a long jaunt, about 12 miles total from train station, around the lake and back to train. Well worth it! Will be back.

Gorgeous

By Linda D |

The sunsets are gorgeous over the lake. Such a beautiful park with a swimming lake, picnic areas, wildlife viewing, open areas to roam.

lots of great bike trails

a beach in Colorado! There are not too many of these. Bring your bikes for the whole family as much of the bike trails are paved (without cars)

Beautiful day on the beach..in Colorafo?

We took a picnic lunch to the beach side and enjoyed watching all the activities in shore and in the water.

Cherry Creek State Park, a great little getaway for a fun afternoon.

By 424leighb |

Recently went for a long walk after it had snowed ad was a beautiful sunny crisp afternoon. We saw lot's of deer who kept appearing at different places throughout the walk. Even in winter it's a pretty park to walk through and in the fall it's fun to enjoy all the golds and orange colors on the trees along with the ducks and an occasional fox. During the spring it's so pretty to see all the trees starting to bloom and all of the different birds starting to arrive for the summer. It's great to also go on a bike ride through the park on all of it's different trails that also get you down by the waterfront. Weather you are there to camp out or go boating for the weekend, or just there for the day to enjoy walk, ride etc., Cherry Creek State Park is a nice quick getaway to enjoy some nature without having to drive to the mountains.

cherry creek dog park not safe for your dog

By John K |

It used to be a great place to bring the dogs to run. Anymore many of the people come to the park, turn the dogs loose to run, don't obey the rules of the dog park "like not leasing there dogs in the parking lot ",start talking on cell phones and totally ignore their pets. The dogs are running wild, knocking people down, and getting into dog fights. The owners are not picking up the waste left by their dogs because they are to busy ignoring them. We have voiced concerns to the rangers and park office by phone because the rangers are never there to address concerns face to face. People are having their vehicles broken into in the parking lot. After coming to this park for over twenty years it is a shame to see it being ruined by inconsiderate people. As a last word of warning, do not attempt to come to the park on the weekend. the woman in the pitcher her dog attack my dog in the parking lot, the dog was not lease and mine was, no apology just a f off.

Excellent nature trails with deer, coyote, and birds of prey everyday experiences.

By Tommy M |

Again a great place to chill, take in nature, great walking trails in wooded areas. Daily viewings of either deer, coyote, or birds of prey. Great place to unwind from daily hustle of our busy lives.

Amazing park right in the city

By jdikeman |

Life in Colorado and Denver is amazing. So much to do and see. Easy access to it all. Cherry Creek State Park is easiest accessed near I225 and Parker Road. Turn off of I225 when the see the giant Radisson Hotel Denver Southeast. Entry to the Park is just about a mile and 1/2 south on Parker Road. If you’re staying at the Radisson, there is a free, walk-in, park entry nearby. Miles of trails, a beautiful lake and beach, boating, fishing, horseback riding and picnicking. The sunset drive across the top of the dam is beautiful. The sunset, the city view...an amazing view of the Rocky Mountains. Stop in the park for a break from the City...in the City.

Great place, a lot of perks, and great location!

By fourseastravelco1954 |

Very clean and well kept up park. Great location.Seems that a lot of transients stay here. Bathrooms are clean. Water area is very nice.

Hidden Gem!

By DurangoCOLyn |

I almost don't want to give this place an excellent rating, because TOO many people will want to check it out! We were so surprised how nice it was! For being so close to the city, Cherry Creek State Park is wonderful. The walking and bike trails are lovely.

Love this place

By Tricia A |

Great for camping, picnicing, bike riding, walking and water sports. This is or camping home away from home spot. We usually make this our first trip of the year to clear out the cobwebs. Reserve early it fills up very fast

Great RV park

By Neil B |

We stayed two nights and enjoyed Cherry Creek greatly.

This is a fabulous setting; it really is like camping rather than pulling up in a car park. The facilities are excellent, although shower/launders blocks can be distant from some of the sites.

The ranger who checked us in was very friendly, which created a good atmosphere from the start. Price is reasonable. There is a $9 park entry fee but this is clear on the park website and when you make a booking.

The park itself has bike trails and lots of wildlife. It's not far (8 min) cycle from Nine Mile Station to get the train into Denver.

Full marks to Colorado Parks & Wildlife for such an excellent facility.

Close and fun

By coppercheetah |

Fun for a picnic with group seating areas, boating is also a mist, or riding your bike. There is also a swim beach for the kids.

Great escape from the city, in the city.

By Rae M |

This place is my favorite place to go to get away from the city atmosphere, without the long drive out of town. I love running here. There are options to stay on paved trails, or to hit some dirt paths. Biking is good. Car traffic is minimal. The reservoir is great for kayaking.

Beautiful Park in the middle of the city

By Andrew B |

What a beautiful place to just have a picnic and relax. We took the kids and the dogs out and found a nice quite area by the beach and had a blast. Water was warm the trees were green and the fun was being had, A wonderful day to paddle board and just enjoy the family. Dont miss out

Lovely park close to city

By Laneybelle |

Lovely park with reservoir for boating, lots of paths for walking, jogging or bicycles, spacious campsites, and a nice wetlands trail. We were enjoying the singing birds and peaceful quietude of the wetlands when non-stop popping erupted from the shooting range, disturbing the peace and quiet. I don't think a shooting range belongs in a park, but other than that, it is a lovely park just outside the city of Denver.

Sad Ending

By IDebDeb |

I am a known, positive reviewer. It makes me sad to give this beautiful campground a poor review. My husband and I have been on a 2 week camping trip that has had us staying in 5 State Parks across 3 states. Most campers leave chairs out, rugs, plants, happy lights and more. There's honor amongst campers. As avid mountain bikers, we've attended many mountain bike events at a number of campgrounds. People leave their bikes out, propped against a tree, leaned up next to the camper, sitting on a bike rack....we've never had any equipment stolen and we're from SoCal.

After a lovely evening stroll at this campground, deer abounding, and a colorful sunset, we turned in. We had 2 mountain bikes and my husband's triathlon, Motobecane bike strapped on a bike rack behind our camper when we called it a night. The following morning our mountain bikes were gone. 3 dogs in our camper. Not a peep. Our campsite was directly opposite the Ranger's Check-in station. Blatantly, brazenly, professionally stolen from our campsite from off our camper!

Most discouraging was when my husband made the report to the Ranger station for them to say, "Oh, that never happens here." Newsflash! Don't say never because it just did. It devalues and discredits our claim. This is surely not a random, first time offense.

We feel staked out. Stalked. Violated. We encourage the State of Colorado to place warning signs in their State Parks that there have been reported thefts. To take all precautions to safeguard your campsites. To provide better security.

We love Colorado. But, we will never stay at Cherry Creek Reservoir again. In spite of all the deer.

PS. Please safeguard your pets there as well. A lone coyote passed directly next to our camper in broad daylight.

GREAT CAMPGROUND

By Judy N |

Campground has large walkthroughs with full hookups also rent spots.Boating and swim beach. Lots to do in the Denver area....Sports..USMint...Molly Brown House...Brown Palace just to name a few. Estes Park and the Air Force Academy are not that far away.

Beautifuk

By Desiree P |

Parking price is a little steep but worth it for the view!

Very cool place to see especially if you're from out of state.

Boats and jet skis can go right up to the beach and the reservoir is just so beautiful.

Cherry Creek Park

By Marilyn H |

Beautiful community park. Large Reservoir with beach, good for all water sports. Camping and all facilities for trailers. Dog park and horse stables.

Quiet place in the city

By allankarr |

There is nothing really special about this place. It is a park on a lake and a good place for a picnic and a walk. If you need a quick getaway from the busyness, you can go to this park on the way to somewhere.

Book Early!

By lovescolorado2 |

This is a great place for boating, camping, bike riding, bird watching and hiking. It's a gem in the middle of the city. That being said there are a lot of people that enjoy this park so the camping books up early and the lines get long to get into the park during the peak of the summer. The lake gets pretty crazy with all the jet ski's.

Cool

By Ray J |

Good fishing and trails. Cherry Creek is a beautiful site with a wonderful backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.

Lots to do and see in the middle of the urban jungle

By Elyse G |

There are many great things that you can do while visiting here. There is a swimming area, playground, picnic areas, boating dock, and lots of trails with wildlife. In a designated area of the park there is a shooting/ target range. It is a far corner of the park away from everything else and run by several range masters. This park is huge for being right in the middle of city.

Great Denver Urban Park

By mitchfromdenver |

Annual pass is well worth it. Hiking, biking, boating, fishing and camping in the heart of a major metropolitan area. If you are a birder bring your camera. Lovely place to go for a walk.

Beautiful park; bad reservations system

By Terry Boehrer |

We have camped here four times during the past few years as we crisscrossed the country in our RV.

The park is, by far, the cleanest, efficient, and prettiest campground we’ve encountered in a big city. Hands down a must stay.

So why only a rating of 4 stars? Because the park has the worst reservation system. Totally frustrating. As an example, we could not book a three night stay because they were ‘full’. But we were able to book three different, consecutive one night stays. So we had to move every night to a different campsite. And the campsite on the third night was empty all three days. The Camp Hosts jokingly refer to this as the Cherry Creek shuffle. I call it a pain in the neck.

And with all the ‘campground is full’ signs posted everywhere but only 2/3 sites were actually filled you can bet the State is getting shorted.

Big beach, lovely grasslands

By Catharus |

We were in Denver for a convention and had a little time the last night so we decided to check out this park. $9 is kind of steep for an hour's visit but after being cooped up in a hotel for 4 days it was nice to get out and try and see the natural beauty of the area. We were surprised by the expansive beach. There is only one little pull off area at the top of a hill to see the mountain vistas, although I saw Pike's Peak way in the distance. Big gatherings of people on the beach and many signs warning of crime so I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable spending much time there. It's interesting to have this remnant of the foothills prairie in the middle of suburbia. The view of downtown Denver is pretty amazing but most of the roads are down at lake level.

kevco

By Kevin L |

for a semi-urban state park this place is fantastic..!!
from the double digit acre dog park... i'm not even sure how big it is...I think you can walk about a mile right down the middle of Cherry Creek with your dog... to the marina lounge, equipment rental , fishing camping swimming hiking biking picnic walking... then there's the model airplane area, full shooting range...maybe I'm prejudiced I get to drive through it every day on my way home from work

Oasis in the middle of the city

By TMWildMed |

Cherry Creek State Park is an amazing oasis in the heart of Denver. Once there it can be hard to remember that one is in a major metro area. Nice picnic areas, swimming, and trails. Great for running or biking. Only down side is that they allow jet skis on the lake so it can be noisy.

ANother one of Colorado's great state parks

By JTr |

THis is where one goes if they want to ride bikes, do water stuff or camp. Park seemed kind of crowded but there is lots of room for people to do a variety of things. Some great hiking trails and open space.
The line to get in took a long time.

A nice walk starting from a local hotel

By Craig G |

A local Denver area walking club hosts a 10 kilometer walking event which is mostly in the park. There are restrooms and water available along the way. Many picnic tables, shelters, and a good looking, well-maitained beach at the reservoir, for people to enjoy.

Don't have a big event here

By The Runaway Ranch |

In the past I have loved this park. I have loved the water and the trails and for the most part I still do. So when I rented Dixon Grove to throw a 90th birthday party for my beloved Dad and people were coming from as far away as Mexico city, I asked Kelly (In the office) if we could get in early to set up prior to the guests arriving. She said "No" and I asked if we could clean the space ourselves and have them come and review it prior and she said "Absolutely not"..... Not, Oh my let's see what we can do to help, or something supportive. She was snarky and negative and made the day so much harder than it needed to be. My car was also hit in the parking lot and the person left the scene. It was very noisy and the fumes from barbecue lighter fluid was strong and it was just really unpleasant. Plus the bathrooms were not functional and so port A Potties were used. Don't recommend this for any special events

Fun place to Bicycle or Walk

By Michael D |

Cherry Creek is a great place to get outdoors that is still close to the city. Trails are great for Cycling or Walking. Nice spot to go to when you only have an afternoon but need some outdoor time. Recommended.

Beautiful Park

By Linda H |

Went there today and it such a well kept State Park, much like the ones in my home state of IL. Had fun watching this guy do tricks on the side of the water with some kind of board?? Don't know much about the things kids use now, I would call it a mini surfboard. Lol!!

Walk for life

By gazzillion |

Although it is a clear sunny winter day, the park is a wonderful place for families with or without pets! Great trails for walking, biking, rollerblading, running, or walking the family dog! Camping spots available, picnic spots to enjoy a leisurely lunch, and don't forget about boating and fishing in the summer months! Must visit!!

Wonderful spot for a day outdoors!

By mdarenfrow |

Hiking, boating and everything in between. This is a beautiful spot for people of all ages and shapes to sit back and relax in nature. The trials are wonderful, lots of flora and fauna to see. You can see birds of all kinds and other animals in their natural habitat. I truly enjoyed the time together with family and nature.

Are you safe???

By Christy N |

I have loved this nice little piece of nature in the city. Have been going there for 16 + years. i visit far lest frequently for two reasons. SOME visitors don't respect your personal space and are quite intimidating and the bicycle traffic (who don't have to pay to come in) many times so not follow the rules of the roads.Sure not the wonderful place it use to be .

Wide open Spaces

By Bob S |

Plenty to do in this lovely park - great hard paths for walking or bike riding - skeet shooting - large lake for boating and fishing - Marina with a restaurant- nice to see such wide open spaces in the congested Denver area - Rangers are very helpful - $8.00 day pass - $80 for seasonal. Will repeat !

Needs maintenance, tired looking park

By fish4manvel |

May be from drought conditions, but the park is really looking tired and run down. A lot of the picnic areas need to be updated and fixed. Nice lake to go boating or skiing in but can really get crowded with too many boats. Had to hunt around for decent area to have picnic and play around at. Could use cleaning up.

Great place for amateur camping

By BP Denver |

Love this reservoir. It's quiet, despite being located in a busy part of the city. It's a great place to bring kids and introduce them to camping.

Love Cherry Creek

By Vickie V |

We love to camp at Cherry Creek the spot are nice a spacious, clean and easy to get in and out of.

We also enjoy playing in the lake or hiking the many trails.

Great Dog Park

By CUK |

Horrible lines on weekends in the summer but the park itself is superb. Dog park is exceptional. Acres and acres of free roaming for our little Pugs!

A natural retreat from the city

By srosene |

I love that I can hop on my bicycle in a very urban environment and be at the lakefront, feeling a million miles from the city in just a few short minutes. I have a bicycle with a child carrier that I used to bring my 5 year old and her beach toys. She loves it, as do I.

Trip to the park and beach

By travelnjoe22 |

Went to Cherry Creek state park with my daughter. The lake has a beach with sand and designated swimming areas. Has a place to grill and many people had tents near the beach.
You need a pass to drive your car into the park a day pass is $9-$10 a day or you can get an annual pass for $70.00. You can ride a bicycle or walk in for free.
There are many things to do at this park. Swimming, fishing, boating, they have a jet ski rental, shooting range, place for remote control toys, lots of trails. And it's all surrounded by cities.

Great place to walk the dog!

By CgPhotog |

I live close by and the dog loves coming here for walks and play in the water. It's like an island of nature in the middle of the city. Hard to believe it's surrounded by building and highways when your there. I even drive thru on my way home from work some days. Great way to unwind!

Gorgeous place to drive through, fish, boat, or bicycle

By Daniel S |

I ride my bicycle here often. A great park with some wildlife (rarely seen, but there). The fishing is very hit and miss but you can land some good sized fish here. The bike paths are wonderful. Very well-maintained and not too strenuous. It's a gorgeous visit no matter how you travel through the park. Also has a dog off-leash park, which is great!

Not Central Park but..........

By KCfromColorado |

This place is a little oasis in the middle of a big City. This is the City of Aurora’s crown jewel. You can boat, jet ski, bike ride, fish, swim kayak, picnic and camp all within a few minutes of home. My husband and I ride our bikes around this reservoir several times a week and I have to say this is my favorite time of year out here, it is absolutely beautiful with the trees and grasses changing colors and their contrast against the cool blue skies. We see deer and other wildlife on almost every ride! Campsites are large, comfortably laid out and cleaned daily they have big shade trees for Colorado’s warm fall days and all sites have campfire pits for the cool crisp nights. Other info: Marina, seasonal boat rental, picnic tables and grills, clean bathrooms located throughout the park, dump station, group camping and picnic areas

Wow

By BIZWITHCACHING |

SO amazing what is in this park if you take time to drive and walk to it all. We went to geocache but the parking on the lake and all the picnic areas were amazing. Fields, swamp, wet lands, and swimming! So close to our hotel in Denver and such a great day. Only complaint would be the boats allowed in with car motors in them racing around the lake with loud roaring pipes. All the others we met at the park were also dismayed as to why that is allowed. Hiking far from the lake you could still here it and it was unbearable at the picnic area as the men kept coming and going out reving their engines like high school kids. Great park otherwise! Amazing I say!

Lots of trails

By Sportyfarmgirl |

The park has lots of trails for exploring and a reservoir to swim and play in. Had I had more time I would have checked more of it out.

Great Spot to boat in the city

By Jason M |

Close.
Not too busy.
Get there early.
Great fishing. Walleye.
My favorite is to take my family and eat dinner on the boat or shore late when lake is calm and tranquil.

Laser light show at Denver Church of marijuana

By Bob |

This was truly an amazing experience simply because you would never think that they would have something like that going on they picked a Perfect soundtrack to go along with the light show. When I think of a laser light show I am thinking of a high-speed laser however this one is somewhat a little bit more imaginative and if you absorb all of what's going on he will truly enjoy the experience

A great place to chill out any time of the year

By ETraveller2002 |

Been here many times and always found it peacful and a place to recharge. Wonderful place to walk and just take in the ceanery and the solitude. Ideal place to get away from the hustle and bussle of the city while still being there. Highly recommended.

Nice park, odd experience

By jimichongaJC |

Just needing to kill a few hours before a late flight out of Denver, I chose to visit Cherry Creek. The park has surprisingly few trees but a lovely lake and calming atmosphere in the middle of the the metroplex. i was shocked to have to pay $9 daily entry fee for what amounted to naptime, but not a problem. What was a problem was the goings-on in the parking lot in which I located. Shortly after resting my seat back, a litany of ranger/police flashers, disruptive chatter, tow-truck doings proceeded for the next few hours. Although they wouldn't discuss it, the park officials and gendarmes were obviously arresting a suspect and impounding his vehicle. It seriously disrupted the peace and quiet of the park setting, but this is hardly a problem to be routinely expected. Overall a nice park within the city.

Just a really beautiful place. Very relaxing, or a great place to swim, run, boat, etc.

By Bruce M |

We were looking for a place to relax and plan our two day visitr to Aurora. This place was more than perfect for that. Lots of nature to take in!

Nice place to hang around one day on a weekend

By sjnv |

It is a pretty good place to do kayaking and a very nice picnic spot, but if you have to do boating please pre-book the boats if you don't have one :-).

Calm in the city

By DrCheese |

The park was a great outing for fresh air and exercise. Paved trails galore for walking or biking. $ 10 for a day pass with lots of trails and quiet in the city.

Terrific way to spend your day

By sheflew |

Being so close to the heart of Denver, this state park provides a ton of outdoor options. Enjoy water sports, biking, bird watching and camping to just name a few.

Great state park

By cindyciciburns |

Great bike riding trail! Water was great too. Fun watching boats and skiers. Wish we had a boat as well;)

NICE STATE PAEK

By DENISE S |

VERY BIG! Great for walks and very pretty area! beach by lake is small but nice! Lots of birds and great fishing! campsites are nice and affordable! Water can be cloudy and is def cold! I would recommend going in the fall or late summer

Beautiful place

By billsimm23 |

Really clean, nicely laid out. I was surprised by all the activities available, especially during the week. Will return when back in Aurora / Denver for work.

Great Trails!

By TCB |

Such a great place to walk with friends! There are clear open trails and lots of miles to roam. There are bathrooms, and fantastic places to take sunset pictures by the water.

Serenity

By DrewJohnston85 |

Cherry Creek park is located between Cherry Creek and Parker. It's a wonderful place to drive through, camp, go to the gun range, etc.

Great running spot

By P & G S |

We stopped here to do an early morning run. The trails, both paved and unpaved are very well maintained. I thought by getting there early there here would be not very many people, but there was plenty of people getting their exercise in early in the morning.

Cherry Creek is GREAT

By Alex A |

the park has an off-leash area for dogs where they can run around, play with other dogs, play in the creek, just an outstanding area for dogs to be DOGS!

also, there are camping areas, picnic areas, shooting, horseback riding, boating, just an over-abundance of activities

The pelicans were showing off in spite of the noisy boats.

By Lawrence |

I also photographed Double Crested Cormorant and Bullock's Oriole. A very popular place for bicycling and boating, and camping.

Long line to get in

By 574gdm |

Ridiculous line to get in. We have been waiting for over one hour!!!! Poor management at best,,, it is unclear what the problem is but it is taking cars over 10 minutes to buy. Pass.

Great Weekend Outing!

By RileyPete |

Cherry Creek State Park is situated smack dab in the middle of Aurora, CO. Adjacent to I-225 and Parker Rd., the park offers a wide variety of things to see and do. We have enjoyed the walking trails (keep your dog leashed please) as well as the biking paths and the shooting range. If you are a dog lover, take advantage of the Dog Off Leash Area (DOLA), accessible from either inside the park or from the south entrance off of Parker and Orchard Rd. This very large fenced in area allows your dog to run free and play in Cherry Creek. We have been going there since our arrival in 2014 and absolutely love it (so does our Yellow Lab Emma). The shooting range also has a great sausage and hot dog stand, serving up a variety of sausage meats to include elk, bison, rattle snake, and more. The range is reasonably priced (ask for a military discount if you qualify) and has a good selection of rental weapons and ammunition for purchase.

I live close to the State Park and ride my bike or walk there all the time.

By DoroH4 |

It is a nice park but I do not like all the motorized vehicles on the water. It has gotten really bad over the years. The water is dirty and there is a lot of trash around the park.

Great for cycling and camping.

By Deborah K |

We tried out our new camper here before heading to the Western Slope. It was really a nice site with clean toilets and showers and a beautiful bike path.

Wonderful park (& great dog park as well)

By Mel N |

This park is very large and has a lot to offer. I have only been here in the winter but there are plenty of places to hike plus they have the largest (and nicest) dog park I have ever been to so far.

Cheery Creek Gun Range

By coappleby1 |

The Cherry Creek Gun Range is located in Cherry Creek State Park. It does cost to get into the park, but it's a reasonable day rate. The gun range is off by itself, and is also very reasonable. They have shooting alleys for both pistols and rifles. The staff is very friendly and safety is upmost on their minds. They sell ammo, targets, ear and eye protection and rent guns. I have visited this range with my grandson on many occasions and have never had a problem with safety.

Family fun for all

By tripalotCo |

Great place for a family gathering, Great for BBq picnics and water sports. Play area for the kids is great.

Nice way to spend a Saturday

By jacobviolet007collin |

The park is in very good shape. They keep it very clean and very safe to go work out. There are miles of walking trails . There is a b8g lake there you can take your boat or jet ski to ride . The park charges money to park there bit there are parking spot for free on the other side off the road. And you can park there till it gets dark . You can go fishing on the lake. You could spend your hole day there enjoying the park.

Great Camping

By Ravenmeister |

State does an excellent job in keeping this park in great shape. Has just about everything for a park; camping, boating, fishing, hiking and cycling trails, off-leash dog area, aero field, shooting range, etc.....and easy to get to.

A Wonderful State Park with an AMAZING Dog Park

By AMathews303 |

We've lived in this area for over 20 years and have been to the lake here many, many times. Sadly, we just only recently discovered the amazing dog park here! It is incredible. Acres and acres of off-leash, fenced-in land for the dogs to run and play. A great stream for them to wade in and swim. It's the perfect open space for them to get exercise and valuable socialization. I can't say enough good things about it. The only thing I dislike is irresponsible dog owners who fail to pick up after their dogs even though there are stations with baggies all over the place. Most do, but too many don't. Also, it can get very muddy during and after wet weather. I recommend getting some good waterproof boots. I'd get them anyway because it is fun if you can wade in the water with your pups and explore the areas across the stream. Do yourself a favor and get the annual park pass (under $100) and the annual dog park pass ($20 if I remember correctly). It pays for itself quickly and even if you don't use it all, what can be wrong with contributing to a beautiful state park? I highly recommend this place.

Beautiful!

By Jennifer L |

This is a beautiful low key day trip stop. There were many places for a picnic including picnic tables with barbecues. We saw deer and many birds during our afternoon stop there. The bathrooms were closed but there were several port-a-potties around.

There is a biking/walking path that runs through the park but we were there just for a relaxing afternoon stop. We took a short stroll in a few different areas and for the most part it was very relaxing and peaceful. They do allow motor-boats and Jet Ski's so there was occasional noise near the water from them.

I wish we had more time to spend there, we would definitely go back if we were in the area.

GREAT VIEW!!

By Bob B |

Great 20 mile bike path around the lake. FYI You can park your car near the entrance and ride your bike or walk in in for free. Entrances are at Quincy Ave or Hampten. You can park at Cherry Creek High School also

Gone Fishin

By Deborah B |

We found a nice shady place to sit and throw a worm in the water. There were quite a few JetSki's and it was a bit noisy. But we enjoyed our day fishing. This park also has horseback riding, biking and hiking trails, swim beach, picnic areas, camping places and even a place to dock your boat .

Grat Park

By Dwayne A |

This park is a nice park with tons to do. I love the way you see people with their dogs, their friends, their family, and sometimes just alone enjoying the park. I love the trail system that goes for miles. Great place to just sit for a few hours.

Do not get married here!!!

By stacden |

We booked this venue for our wedding in June, we met with Tamara and things seemed great, very nice lady. Got a call back from Tamara, came in a couple weeks later to sign contract, BIG mistake.  Durning the signing of the contract Lisa the "president" was asked by Tamara to join in to learn the process. Lisa and coworker snubbed us all and ignored us, but she was able to sit at the bar and sip her vodka soda. Unfortunately we still signed the contract. But before we signed the contract we asked Tamara what happens if we back out of the venue and find something that would work better with us and our guests.  Her exact words were "I have never not given anyone the booking deposit back, ($2,100+.) I have had a few couples that had to change the venue and I allowed them to back out." 8 months before our wedding date in a professional nicely way asked for our deposit back, even offering we would be okay with half of it. They came back and told us to change our wedding date.... NO chance of that happening.
We then emailed Tamara with questions with ZERO response. Several times.
A month later we found out that she QUIT and Susan was now in charge. She had no idea about the wedding or the venue as she was new and was clear about that several times.
We also learned that we had to use a "preferred" vendor of their choice for food.  After visiting the only three allowed food vendors found out that Pelican Bay gets a kick back from these vendors if they are used.
Once we found out that we had to pay almost 13k for food for 30 people we asked to withdraw from the venue, 8 months before our wedding date. We were told to basically kick rocks and no contact was made after on their part.

We NEVER heard from the "president" Lisa, EVER. We then emailed the owner, Eric and NOTHING, complete silence.

BRIDES!!! Brides!!! BRIDES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware, do NOT do business with these people, you never know when people will quit or get fired. Too much money to play with, look elsewhere.
I now see why so many people were upset when the old Marina owners were forced out by this new "ownership".  Stay far away from them. All they want is money and they do not care about you.
THERE Are many other venue's that put this one to shame. Believe me. They took over $2,100+ from us and don't have the nerve to contact us.
I wouldn't want this on my wedding day... WOULD YOU?!?!?!

Lovely day at Cherry Creek Resevoir!

This little lake in the middle of town is so peaceful and quiet. It is a great place to go and just sit and people watch or just to enjoy nature !
It's a definite must go see !!!

Lovely park in an urban setting

By KaneoheBoy |

One would not necessarily expect to find a nice park and lake so near Aurora but we explored Cherry Creek Park for about 90 minutes and found it very nice. The officials are intent on keeping this place nice so there are signs with rules about this and that to make sure you keep it nice. There is a $9 fee to drive your car in, but note that if you BIKE in, you can get in free. There were lots of bikers and also lots of people with dogs on this beautiful Thursday. They have a good sized lake and lots of people in boats and jet skis. I would imagine that on a weekend it is crazy here. I saw a number of fishermen, plenty of people running on the paths, and others just enjoying the view. Anyone bringing a boat must get it inspected first to make sure no invasive creatures get into the lake. If you live in Colorado you can get a season pass and you can also buy a separate pass just for the dog park and that is $20 per year. We saw and heard lots of birds. Also nice is that on the paths they have restrooms at regular intervals. Definitely worth a trip!

But there is a fee. In the winter there was no one at the booth, but i heard during the summer there is

This is not good for swimming...VERY DIRTY WATER

By Cathystroman |

If you are not looking to swim this is a great park. But the swimming is HORRIBLE. I live 5 minutes from here and will not take the kids swimming here. The water is polluted with motor oil, you can SEE it on the water surface. Their so called beach area is full of droppings from the massive about of geese out here, and they don't even try to clean it up. I have lived in this neighborhood nearly my whole life and it has always been filthy swimming. That said, and hopefully clearly. The rest of the park is GREAT for biking, walking, and boating. JUST DON'T SWIM IN IT!!!

Amazing place

By Fabian L |

My wife and I were only there for almost an hour. Wondering place for even a stroll. My lady took some amazing pictures. My 7 month old daughter also enjoyed her time. Cherry Creek is an amazing place to visit, smiles guaranteed.

Best Dog Park I Have Ever Been To

By Rich O |

Near the South side of the park is an absolutely huge dog park. You have to have a special dog park pass (you an purchase by the day or the year). Cherry creek passes through, and the dogs can swim or run around in the water. People are friendly, and usually so are the dogs.

Oasis Near the City

By mblord2016 |

You can hike, bike and roller blade through the many trails surrounding the reservoir. The grassy area is pretty dry now but spring, fall and winter you can spot all sorts of wildlife from pelicans and eagles - to coyotes and deer. It's a good spot to get away from the traffic!

Campground was awesome

By vseljeskog |

This large state park and campground right in the middle of urban Denver was an unexpected delight. Campsites we large, spacious and private. Public restrooms were brand new and very clean. This is a lovely place to camp (either tent or RV) while staying in the Denver area.

In-town campi. They are ng

By KelleySue64 |

We love Cherry Creek State Park campgrounds. They are clean, have plenty of space and full hook-up sites. Since it is in town you do get some highway noise but it's easy to ignore. Summer weekends the place gets really full and if you leave the park, you may have to wait in a long (car) line to get back in. I wish they had a separate entrance for campers:) Usually our first camp of the year is at CC for the easy access to places, in case of an camper emergency and potential snow.
We take our kayaks but not a huge fan of the water there.

Great State Park

By Leyba303 |

Well kept park petfect for family or solo visits. Clean. Multiple activities to enjoy. Camping, biking, walking, boating. What makes it special for me is accessibility. Located within driving distance of the Denver Metro area. Great for week or weekend trip without having to escape to the mountains for similar outdoor activities in the mountain regions of Colorado.

Drive thru

This is an awesome state park. An oasis in the middle of the Denver Metro area! I have used the facilities of this park for 40+ years. The dog park is fun for both humans & canines! Camping is also a great experience ... Lots of shady sights ... Sites are level, spacious, and always clean.
There is a marina, too. Boats to rent ... or spaces to keep your own.
I prefer to camp during the Spring or Fall because it's usually cooler, less busy, and the fall colors are beautiful.

Pros and Cons Overall Budget friendly

By J. H |

I used to visit this place as a kid, birthday parties, swim days, etc.
I have to say this place always remains full.
They have the swim section where all the kids and family can enjoy a splash in the sun. They have the other section for boats and water jet skis. Everyone seems to have their pets leashed which is a plus for safety with all the kids around. I found that the food court that was once there was closed, not sure if just for that day or permanently.
Bathrooms are not very clean at all but, I think that goes for any water park or lake/state park. They do allow you to consume alcohol so long as it is in a can not a glas bottle. Park rangers are around picking up trash and trying to keep it clean. You can take your own propane grill which is nice. Entrance fee was 9.00 which you cant beat. The biggest no no for me was the car line to get in and parking. Parking is always super far from where your picnic area is, and in my opinion they could use more picnic areas. Would i return? Yes.

Nice place for a run

Save a trip to the mountains

By michael p |

Great open space, easy to get to, park and lots of things to do ranging from hiking, boats, fishing, dog park, camping, shooting range, horseback riding and more I probably don't even know about. Get the season pass. Highly reco - great day outside and view of the mountains.

Wonderfully Peaceful

By Angie Morini |

Even though I got lost the first time, I never hesitated to go back. The pathways are paved and the whole park is so well-kept, you would never know it was a public place.

RV Camping

By Paula F |

Nice park to stay at would recommend it to anybody with an rv or tent. We saw Deer rooming around along with wild turkeys. It's a quite and peaceful to stay! We will come back.

Not a lot here . . . but that's okay!

By Jeri N |

Fairly crowded on a Sunday--and a 90 degree at that. Great spot for low HP watercraft and sport. Saw kayaks, canoes, paddleboards (carrying dogs), swimmers, sailboats, jetskis . . . . Some beach areas, lots of picnic spots and things for the kids to play on. There is also an off-leash dog area along with MILES of trails. Great spot for running and biking. A day pass was $9--a little excessive for an out-of-towner with only a few hours to visit--but wonderful for locals.

Great for the outdoorsy type

By berr520 |

I spent the Fourth of July weekend in Denver and visited cherry creek a few different times - first the reservoir, which was a little crowded but beautiful nonetheless, and then the bike trial which was well paved and easy to follow. Great for outdoorsy adventures!

Great Urban Park, Lake and Campground

By GusCam |

Surrounded by city but feels like you are in the country. Boating, fishing, hiking and camping all available with trees and gorgeous views. Well worth a visit.

All the beauty of nature minutes from home!

By ergragg |

If you want to get away from all noise and pressure of the big city, drive a few minutes to Cherry Creek State Park and enjoy the peace and quite while hiking or biking the miles of trails. You may see a wide variety wild life, including Bald Eagles, hawks, wide assortment of water fowl, Mule and White Tail deer and hungry Coyotes. You will also find great fishing, boating and camping opportunities.

Dixon’s Grove is lovely!

By COtravelers2_8 |

Have used Dixon’s Grove for company events in the past. The pavilion is helpfully shaded with picnic tables. The grove is shaded and has a small beach. Restrooms are nicely maintained. The state park is located conveniently close to Aurora and Denver.

Dog Park

By Frederick C |

One of the BEST dog parks in the metro area.. Great place to run and power walk.. Your dogs will enjoy the freedom to run free..

Nice cool steam along the path, get there early when it's cool.. Weekends and holidays get busy.. Make sure you buy your yearly dog pass and park pass..

Nice large park

By 340cruiser |

First off, make sure you get the correct entrance! Initially I went in the south entrance but there's not much there. I got my bearings and found another entrance where there were some nice trails and a lot of water activities. Looks like they have a really nice campground as well.

Good walking. Great birding!

By Bruce H |

Fabulous and easy to access with State Park pass. Thousands of acres and miles of trails. Off leash area for good dogs, horse rental, fishing. Like birds? My favorites include pelicans, bald eagles, red tailed hawks, ducks, wigeons and coots in the numerous wetlands.
Great family areas. Sandy beaches, RVcamping, spaces to play.

Caution: the main paved trails are used by FAST road bike riders in training . Stay to the right of the trail and move predictably to avoid encounters. Also keep snack size dogs very close or in arms. Coyotes love them. No off leash dogs at all.

Awesome park!

By Morgan R |

Possibly the cleanest and nicest camping we have ever experienced. Although the showers didn't work while we were there, The showers and bathrooms were very clean.

A good place to learn to kayak!

By doweger |

always a good place to go to go boating swimming, I even used to take the dog there. Bring drinks and food but take what you bring back home. This is so don't trash the place for the next person

First trip to Cherry Creek for my two new furry family members

By Kari F |

Beautiful. Such an abundance of wildlife, birds and plenty of spots to go and play and hide out. I have camped here before and it was a very special time for my family.

My puppies are only 11 weeks old and do not fit into their collars just yet, so I had to carry them down by the water. And, I had to be careful that they didn't run out onto the ice.

Nice City Park

By Alex D |

Visited near sunset, lots of wildlife to see. Park clearly gets a lot of traffic, the day entrance price was $10 and people seem to come there for fishing, picnicking, etc.

Great place to go biking!

By Ian W |

I live riding my bike out here. Miles of well paved paths and roads for bikes. Great views of the reservoir and the front range everywhere. They have a goofy tiki bar here in summer which is kind of nice although don't think adrift or trader Vic's. You can also rent canoes if you want to have some fun on the water.

I took my friends wedding pictures here (I'm not a professional, just for fun) and it's beautiful ! I've never been here before but I'm going to keep coming back!

Walk through the wetlands

By Janet T |

Beautiful woodsy walk even on a hot summer day. You can even run into a deer on the tree-shaded path. The trails are well maintained.

Very nice state park

By randolphclan |

We stayed 2 nights at Cherry Creek st park while visiting Denver. This was a super nice campground! Our site (pioneer loop #50) was a nice back in site. To me it seemed nicer than the pull thru sites around us. The bathroom was near by and super nice and clean!! Showers were coin operated. I think they were 50 cents for first 3 minutes and 25 cents for each minute after, or something like that. There was laundry facilites nearby, which were also nice.

The park was right off the main road with gas stations, restaurants and stores right outside, but it felt away from the city. And they had wifi!

Would highly recommend.

Too many rangers bugging everyone !

By Glen W |

Fishing is poor at this pond ! Too many rangers bugging everyone . Overall I would pass on this state park 12 bucks too much .

Delightful park in middle of city!

By John T |

While visiting family in Aurora, they took us to Cherry Creek SP for an afternoon outing and an opportunity for some hiking. This large park surrounds the Cherry Creek Reservoir with a six mile paved trail around the lake--ideal for biking and walking. There are multiple loop paths radiating off this main trail. The first we took was Butterfly hill with a splendid community of prairie dogs. We later took the wetlands loop which was partially closed for repair. There is a RC (remote-control) model airplane strip--fun to watch. On the east side is a good swimming beach and a large RV park. If you plan to park your RV you will need reservations made LONG BEFORE your arrival due to popularity. A day's auto pass is $10 payable at either the east or west gate.

Absolutely beautiful park for camping

By Yolanda2802 |

Stopped just overnight on a cross country trek. Wow! What a great state park. RV campgrounds are huge and spacious with lots of trees and grass. Nice fire ring /grill combination. Picnic table area freshly raked and landscapes with low stone wall. First class. Easy online registration even during this COVID time. BE SURE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE! Park is often full and only takes reservations.

Biking in Cherry Creek State Park

By Flyer572787 |

Biking through the reservoir was great. My friend got a flat tire, and we asked a ranger for a ride back to our car. No problem!

Love this place!!

By Jenn S |

Anyone would love this place. Quiet, wonderful hiking and walks. Picnic in nature next time!! Clean.

get outdoors

By Craig W |

I had been on a business trip in Aurora for several days stuck in a crowded conference room with minimal air conditioning. I really wanted to get outside. My co-worker recommended Cherry Creek State Park. I drove there in my rented car and walked around. I saw great scenery, including the sun setting low over the lake, with fierce sunlight that was almost unpleasant to be in. The bicyclists that zipped by on the nearly empty park road looked like they were having great fun. I couldn't really get the most benefit out of the park, since I was in work clothing and work shoes. But it was a nice visit. Being an East Coast person, I did notice that this "park" is nothing like what an East Coast park is - it's a much more desolate landscape than I expected, with few or no deciduous trees.

Dog walks and reservoir

By Vitalina L |

So, I usually take my dogs out for a walk daily in the Cherry Creek State Park, and not only do I love it, they love it too! The dog off-leash area is a great plain where you can have your dogs run around and have them even play in the water (there's a river near), the nature is also especially beautiful... the sunsets are really stunning when you go there in the evening. I also go to the reservoir to try out my boat once in a while during the summer. The reservoir is really big and nice, but usually there are a lot people and pretty crowded on the water if you don't go on the weekends. The only other thing is the mosquitoes, I personally don't prefer going to places with a bunch of mosquitoes there but, depending on the year and season when you're going, there might not be as much-otherwise everything is very delighting. The park is also great for group camps and picnic's I go there annually to rent a group camping area for about 3 or 4 days and train with them. So there's a lot of recreational activities that everyone can enjoy, here's a list:
There's a:
1. Boat marina
2. Shooting center
3. Model airplane field
4. Dog-off leash area
5. Fishing area and much more which I can't really remember right now))) Definitely worth a visit!

Busy weekend but worth it

By BtlsMandy |

Went to the park with some friends. Walked around and enjoyed the nice paths! It has 14 or 16 miles trail. Camping available and you can rent stand up paddleboards or kayaks right near the marina. I never get bored walking around here!

City Folk Water Fun

By bstreetkid |

What an adventure. I am not from a city and have always enjoyed boating and kayaking in remote areas. I am here on business for a few months and brought my kayak. I got there early to beat the rush and as expected, it was fairly quiet until about 10 am at which time the place started erupting with life (city folk cant function properly without crowds, hustle, and bustle). I got there at 5 and departed shortly after 10. Not a place for a quiet weekend.

Many uses for this park

By Jim S |

There are a lot of areas I don't use at this park--shooting range, fishing, camping but I appreciate the bike trails and photography. Colorado is a semi arid climate, but there's so much water in the area that you can see birds you wouldn't see in much of Colorado.

Don't paddle board here

By Meggan Z |

Dirty water, "crystal brown" as someone else said, lots of algae. Rangers are jerks, my husband got a ticket for no life vest - we were unaware of the law (our bad) but he got the ticket when he took the time to take back the life vest they had given him rather than leaving it on the beach

Great outDoor Walk.

By joe g |

Love to take the Dogs to the Park. They love to run and run with other dogs and enjoy the water too.

Nature walk

By Rhona W |

You would never know you are in the middle of a metro area. This will take you into the loveliest forest walk.

Colorado State Parks are simply awesome...

By bertandmary |

You can enjoy the fishing, camping, wild life, as well as birds of prey. Perhaps you'd prefer swimming, boating, sailing or simply watching others totally enjoying these various sports. The Park Rangers are wonderful and helpful...
