It was a nice walk we also biked on a double seater bike
which was fun. Good for a morning and evening stroll.

My husband and I took this walk while visiting the area. It was beautiful. You can experience many aspects of MD nature. Crab boats, then, many areas of wildlife, trees, fish, etc. we enjoyed our post brunch walk.

So the trail is very flat and paved the entire way. It splits at the half way point so you will need to back track to walk both sections. There are wooded areas that you walk through, however the mosquitos were really bad. I would difinitly suggest putting on some bug spray to save your yourself from being eaten alive. I saw several small dirt paths off of the trail, however due to the mosquitos, we did not attempt to try them. Nice relaxing walk and to stop and view the wetlands and wildlife.

Interesting walk along trail through local wildlife area. Beautiful bay inlets with different types of birds, fish, etc easily visible. The trail also follows an old railroad rail line converted to rails to trails walking/biking route.

Great gentle walk along an easy trail alongside the water with good opportunities to see the wildlife.

Welcome because Chesapeake beach: very dirty, artificial and also very expensive 25USD entry

We are big fans of the Rail Trail. We walk this several times a week. This is an easy walk suitable to all ability levels. One can easily walk, run or bike. The trail starts off the parking lot behind the water park. It can be a bit hard to find at first. Just follow the sidewalk near the townhouses and you will come to the start of the trail. The trail starts with a boardwalk over the shipping channel. Then the trail comes to a T to the right the trail leads through a lovely marsh to a housing development. This trail is boardwalk and paved and a tiny bit hilly. To the left the trail leads through the marsh to a more open area of the creek. At the end of this trail you can watch schools of fish jumping out of the water and keep your eyes open for a variety of birds.

The trail is lovely in the early morning and the evenings just before sunset. But great all day and all year long. If you are in the area and want a nice walk this is the place to go.

The trail is a boardwalk predominately over a marsh, so it is accessible to most everyone. Walking both legs of the trail (it splits) totals almost 2 miles. There are informative plaques along the way that lets you know what flora and fauna are out there and why it is important to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Parking is nearby and a concrete path leads you to the above-water trail. Worth the walk!

Beautiful scenery, highly maintained walkway with clear signs along the way. Several options and not too long. Highly recommend, especially on a nice evening. Take your camera.

A very nice trail going around the marshland, the canal and the community. Great place for family and individuals.

Very difficult to find. Behind the water park. Only one signpost that I saw. Parking not particularly easy - a lot of spaces reserved for boat users. Once you find it and park, however, it is a lovely experience. Boardwalk is in excellent condition and easy to walk. Interesting facts presented as you walk . Very peaceful.

I live a couple of miles from here and this is a nice area to walk or run. If you are a photographer, you can get some nice pictures especially at sunrise. The path is wide and is easy for children to walk. At times, you can see the local eagles flying around.

It's a very scenic trail on Fishing Creek with an overlook and access from several points. Great for running, biking or nature watching for marine life or birds.

1+ mile walk one way, walking along the old Railroad path that came from Washington DC. Starts at the water park and dead ends where you can see the old railroad posts and raised bed. If you're lucky you'll see a bald eagle or osprey!

We love this trail. Beautiful scenic views. However, most of the parking is reserved for the Rod and Reel since they are renovating their lot. The other parking lot is specifically for the Water Park and boats. We couldn’t figure out where those going on the trail are supposed to park 🤷🏽‍♀️

Beautiful walk Great wildlife, very informative signage, and lots of picture taking opportunities.make sure to save time for a beautiful 4 mile walk

The walk was good. The city obviously put lots of money into the trail. Good information boards along the way, VERY VERY hard to find amongst all the boats and parking lots! It took 4 people to explain where it started! You walk out--- get to the end and come back. Good job with information boards along the way.

Went there on a gorgeous day. I had to keep my walk short cuz my dog was getting overheated. I'll be back!

Very nice trail but it just sort of ends...it will be nice whenever they actually finish it. We like to walk our dogs there and we usually see several different types of birds and sometimes fish or crabs in the water.

The boardwalk is a wonderful addition to the beach. You can walk or bicycle along the water and the marsh. If you come at sunset be sure to bring bug spray! The trail is not completely lit if the sun sets before you finish your hike. Nearby is a vendor who rents kayaks and paddle boards- another fun way to explore the waterway!

I took my little fold-up bike from one end to the other and off the extensions. A pleasant little ride. Probably two miles with extensions Stopped at the lookouts.

A walk into nature, red wing black birds, osprey, crabs, I have seen snakes on the sidewalk, I hope they continue to expand as planned, its a great place to exercise.

We use this trail often, lots of wildlife to see and enjoy. Only thing is make sure you wear the bug spray in the heat of the summer, there are sections that will get you..

I have loved this trail since it opened. It's perfect for a walk or run - with or without your four-legged friends - almost any time of year. You get beautiful views, close-ups with amazing creatures like eagles and ospreys, and a healthy dose of sunshine. It's a long enough trail that you can spend plenty of time out there, but not so long that families with young kids can't enjoy. I've always felt relatively safe even alone, and generally cross paths with at least a handful of friendly folks.

I walked the trail with my 3 year old granddaughter. We saw a lot of ducks including 4 ducklings. She was thrilling! There are a many different birds. We also saw a few fish. A very pleasant walk as well as a learning experience.

We took an early morning walk here and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We saw several types of water birds, and enjoyed reading the descriptions of the trees along the way. They also have stops where you can read about the history of the area. Early on our walk we met 2 women walking dogs and they said they had had to turn around because the flies were so bad. We didn't have any trouble with flies, but talking with locals later in our stay, they said they can be a problem. I would definitely recommend a walk on this trail, it is well kept and interesting.

This is not an incredibly long trail, but it is one of my favorites, and always a refreshing break. It is fun for all seasons at any time of day. I have biked it, "powerwalked" it, strollered along with my baby boy, and kayaked and paddleboarded on the creek below. The beauty of the sights along the trail--the creek, wetlands, wildlife, fishing boats, and blue sky--always put me a good mood! Also a great place to watch the sunset.

The trail itself is really well built, and goes right through the marsh. We saw an osprey, a heron, and lots of red winged blackbirds. There are nice information boards along the trail. Unfortunately, there is a disgusting amount of pollution in the water under the trail. There are lots of rotted sawn off fish heads, and dead crabs, but we did not see a single living aquatic organism, not even a minnow or small crab. Yet it was still a nice walk. Someone clean the place up, this trail could be amazing!

I frequently walk this trail by myself and with my family. There is lots to see throughout the walk including: lots of wildlife, fishing boats, the old railroad bed, the marshes, etc. I have done lots of photography there.

I love this trail. This is one of the reasons we moved into one of the adjacent neighborhoods running through the trail. There's plenty of nature to see and a decent amount of foot traffic as well as cyclists. Unfortunately there is no fishing allowed anywhere along the trail which would be a nice feature since there is so much water around.

Well worth the time. Beautiful views. Excellent walkway!!!! Enjoyed watching the terns fight and the lazy seagulls.

This trail provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to get out and strech your legs while enjoying the natural beauty of Fishing Creek. The trail is primarily boardwalk through the marsh, which allows you to see working crab boats and fishing charters as well as osprey nests and shore birds. The trail splits after approximately 1/2 mile and if you go left you walk into a forest along an old rail corridor. The trail ends on a bridge spanning the creek, but you can see that the abandoned rail corridor continues just waiting for the next segment of trail to be developed.

This trail starts right behind the parking lot behind the Marina located in Chesapeake Beach. It's also behind the Water Park. As soon as you pass the Water park heading northbound, take the road between the Water Park and the convenience store/gas station and follow that road to the back most end of the parking lot. Head towards the creek (Fishing Creek) and you'll see the beginning of the boardwalk trail. It follows Fishing Creek and has historical and nature interpretive signs along the way (every 100 yards or so). When you get to the "T" intersection - head left. A right turn will take you to a bunch of apartments. Having made the left turn, the boardwalk/trail takes you over Fishing Creek to the other bank and now you will be following the old train bed that went all the way to Washington, D.C. over a 100 years ago. When you see trees on the right hand side, you may want to search in the wooded area here. This was a dump stop for the trains before coming into Chesapeake Beach. The train line was disbanded in 1935. You can find many old bottles - some still intact along here. The trail ends at a raised platform overlooking Fishing Creek. You can see the train bed continue on the other side of the creek. And if you look down at the very end of the platform, you can see the remains of the old creek crossing trestle - just under the water. Scenic trail - a good way to spend the day!

The trail is very well maintained, primarily boardwalk made of recycled material pathway and wood rails, with stamped pavement portions as well. There are benches throughout the boardwalk potion as well as informational placards describing the different aspects of the natural surroundings. The only downside was the lack of shade throughout the boardwalk portion and lack of benches on the shaded concrete portion. The flat one mile walk (two miles round trip) was perfect for me in my 7-months pregnant state. Just a bit hot!

You have the feeling of being able to see the best viewing of the beautiful Chesapeake bay on a clear day. Walking around looking at magnificent boats harbored in the marinas and seeing the catch of the day if the captains were lucky. Just a nice way to get exercise to build a hardy appetite.

This is an easy walk for all ages with a close-up view of the wetlands/Chesapeake Bay tributaries. The boardwalk is new and easy. You will see lots of water-life and birds. The day we were there we were treated to a bald eagle flying over head and then perching up in a tree not too far away. As a kid, my mom told me stories of taking the train to Chesapeake Beach and it was really cool to see the old railroad tracks along the way.

Beautiful classic bay scenery on a nice path. We biked, but people were walking too and the wooden parts would be wheelchair accessible. Nice observation benches with simple explanations about the bay. Excellent parking behind the water park.

Only problem. Too short (about four miles round trip) for a good bike ride.

I walk this trail often. In the summer it is home to osprey, mallards, the occasional great blue heron and a variety of smaller birds, particularly red-winged blackbirds. I prefer it in the winter, when long-tailed ducks and buffleheads appear, and when it is less humid, but it is a nice walk anytime.

By Shana A |

We love taking walks along the rail trail. It is quiet enough to see some wild life and the informational placards on the boardwalk are great for the kids to read.

By shaluhe |

The trail consists partly of a new boardwalk next to Fishing Creek on the left (as you head out) and marshland on the right. The trail splits where it crosses the creek. If you walk to the left, you'll cross the creek and the trail is actually a modern path that follows the old railroad tracks. It stops at a scenic, peaceful bend further up Fishing Creek. If you turn right, the path/boardwalk takes you past some homes then over more marshland and into some woods, and it deadends at another housing development. You can get about 2 1/2 miles in if you walk the whole trail and back. There are benches and good signs about local wildlife along the way. Plenty of free parking in second lot behind the Chesapeake Beach Aquatic center. Over the past year I've seen white egrets, ducks, geese, osprey, herons, bald eagles, water snakes, a large water turtle and a beaver!

Nice easy trail for all ages and dogs as well. At one point it forks, both trails dead end, so you need to double back. There are benches along the way if you want to sit and take in the views. It is a little difficult to find. Park in the Tot Lot, if facing the playground turn around, you will see a white fence,go down steps so you are on the other side of fence and turn right. After a few minutes you will see the sign for trail and boardwalk.

Love looking at the marsh and wild life. Beautiful in every season. Fun to watch the fishermen bringing in their catch.
