We had an amazing tasting here! The cabs were so wonderful, we left with a few bottles. We had the best tasting experience with G-man. He was so sweet and took his time with us. He showed us how to properly taste wine. We’d come back just for him!

This was a return visit to Clos Pegase for us and we were disappointed that the extensive art collection that once graced the grounds of this architecturally stunning winery was no longer on display. We learned that the ownership of the winery had changed hands since our visit five years ago and that the art was not included in the sale. But the new tasting room, the relaxed atmosphere and the fine selection of wines made the experience quite lovely.

Elegant winery with knowledgeable and friendly staff. I came with family including a baby and a large dog and enjoyed wonderful service by Nick at one of the outdoor areas. The tasting menu had a great variety of both red and white wines and Nick was available to answer all our questions. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

We brought some friends to the Clos Pegase Cave Tour experience and it definitely exceeded my expectations. We toured the architecture and grounds before heading into the wine cave. Within the wine cave we had beautiful pairings of each of the wines with a small appetizer meant to bring out the best in the wine. It was beautifully done, and well worth the cost of the tour! We hadn’t seen our friends for several years, and it was a great way to cap off our day in Napa!

This was a return visit after about 20 years or so. It remains a beautiful setting with nice wines. The magnificent art collection of my memory is no longer housed there but Susan, who kept us comfortable and supplied with wine and information, filled us in on the current whereabouts.
On a more practical level, the winery offered a “two for one tasting” deal and, while we needed to make reservations, they accommodated us when our schedule required a delay. Sadly, they do not waive their tasting fees if your make a purchase.

Not sure what was more fun -- exploring the works of many well-known contemporary artists on the grounds or the wine tasting. The rose wine in particular was a great wine choice; the staff was knowledgeable and friendly.

I have been to Clos Pegase several times for a tasting and also recently for the cave tour. The staff is wonderful, the grounds are beautiful and the wine is awesome.

By Lee M |

This winery is amazing. We went with our family to celebrate their 12th year anniversary. This place has wine, views and the architecture. The only thing better was the way we were treated by the team. Heather was our host and was extremely insightful on the history of the winery. Jacob who is the estate manager also dropped by to say hi to our party. We were very pleased with our experience at Clos Pegase and will definitely be returning. We also made it during the mustard season.

To relax, sip some excellent wine, and look out over the vineyards on a beautiful autumn day, well, it doesn’t get much better than this.

We were attracted to this vineyard because we have had its wines in the past, but we were also intrigued by descriptions of the Princeton post-modernist architect Michael Graves’ design of the winery.  Asked to build a “temple to wine and art” by the owners Jan and Mitsuko Shrem, Graves chose a commanding structure of tall pillars and towering archways in hues of red ochre, yellow and tan (photo attached).  An inner courtyard was lined with tall cypress trees, statues of Bacchus, the god of wine, and bubbling fountains of nymphs and muses. (photo attached)  The name, Clos Pegase, derives from Pegasus, the winged horse that according to the Greeks, gave birth to art and wine. Massive caves were dug underground and the wines are stored here, at a constant temperature.  An underground theater area is used for entertaining.  Another fascinating and different locale…..and the wines were exceptionally tasty!

The female wine host was a key west transplant and her love and knowledge of wine was super. We love their wines.

This was our second time visiting the caves and loved the experience. The food and wine pairings was superb! Our host, Heather, was extremely kmnowledge about the wine and the vineyard. Highly recommend!

By MFM19 |

Wonderful select of wines and Mr. Vincent Martin was very knowledge about the production of the grapes and the flavors produced by each. He was kind enough to give us a tour of the caves which are definitely a site to see. Recommend for those visiting Napa.

By redsfan5824 |

Our first visit and we were blown away by the ambience and great selection of wines. The Chardonnay was one of the best we have tasted and the reds were all amazing. Dustin was attentive and knowledgeable and now we are a proud wine club member

Great staff and good wines. My fav was their cab. The grounds were lovely and not over crowded when we were there (11:00 AM 🍷)

By IlyaNJ |

Clos Pegase resides in a striking building among nice sculptured grounds. It is practically next door to Sterling but has just a fraction of the other’s traffic. Friendly walk-in tasting.

By Anne Marie K |

We had a wonderful afternoon. Our winery ambassador was Susan. She couldn’t have been nicer. She was also extremely up on all the wines including other wineries We talked about and areas of Napa to explore.

By Greg C |

We stopped at the Clos Pegase winery at the end of our first day in the Napa Valley. Our server, Vince, was very accommodating when we asked to split just one estate wine tasting. The $20 tasting fee included samples of four very different wines (a sauvignon blanc, a rose, a pinot noir and a red blend), all of which were enjoyable. After finishing those four samples, Vince provided us tastes of two of Clos Pegase's higher end cabernets. We appreciated the extra tastes and enjoyed the banter with Vince as he poured the wines. At the end of our tasting, we took a few minutes to check out the art around the winery. We were definitely glass we stopped in!

By lilbee1125 |

Diane was wonderful in explaining how they produce their wines from different regions. The wines were delicious, the seating area comfortable and the views were stunning. The perfect ambiance for our first day in Napa. We will definitely be back

By Challenger007 |

BIG art, gorgeous views, funky 80's Michael Graves architecture and gasp! a Henry Moore all nestled in a quiet idyllic spot in Napa. Two flights plus a few unlisted bonus tastes from our friendly and candid Clos Pegase Guide who fortunately shared our likes and dislikes. The grounds are lovely and a perfect place for a picnic.
Some interesting wine-very good to excellent in a beautiful setting.

By lesley |

We hadnt booked but although busy, the manager got us a table as I had said we were from New Zealand and Pegasus was my fathers airborne (parachute) l9go.
Great table outside and cheese plate was goid. Wines nice. Good host. Prices of tasting in California hugely inflated, as was the price of wine. Just coming from France. Where tastings were free and wines not expensive, we were shocked

By LChipNC |

A colleague of mine recommended we stop here to see the art, and I was skeptical, but it ended up being one of our favorite winery experiences. We stopped for a tasting and browsed on our own--no tour-- on a rainy day. The sculptures are really interesting and the grounds overall are unique in Napa Valley. After trying cabs all over the valley, these were our very favorites. We even joined the wine club, which we swore we would not do anywhere! But the prices were reasonable and everything is well done. Definitely worth a trip.

By The Bee's Knees |

Had a lovely private tour of the winery and enjoyed tasting several of their wines, some of which were good enough to be brought home with us.

By freddy787 |

To simply review, the art is interesting and inspired. The wine is just not very good. The competition is steep in Napa and with all of the amazing vineyards to see, this should not be a priority to visit.

By tanya0002017 |

Such an incredible vibe. Wines were great, service was friendly and educational. Outside seating options were stunning! We wound up ordering some bottles for shipping…all around awesome experience!

By josh E |

Had a wonderful Friday afternoon tasting at Clos Pegase Winery. Arvind was our host and was very knowledgeable. Appreciated his hospitality and the grounds were very nice. Great way to start our Napa visit!

By BK |

Amazing views. Dustin was great he was very knowledgeable . We enjoyed drinking wine next to the vines.. We'll be back.

By extrapagespassport |

Of all the wineries we visited in Napa, this was by far the worst ( the rest were mostly quite enjoyable). The tour guide was rude and surly, warning us at the outset not to ask questions. The wine is mediocre. But, the art collection and Michael Graves' architecture is worth a visit.

By Murray M |

Our visit to Clos Pegase was very enjoyable. We took the time to receive a tour of the winery plus included the wine caves and Cave Theatre. This is a special experience that both my wife and myself enjoyed.
The winery has a colorfull history and our guide was very helpful to educate us in it's past. Our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable about the winery and much of the wine history in California.
The tasting we experienced during our tour showed the high quality of many different varietals that this winery produces.
This visit is highly recommended.

By DebMRoswell_GA |

Recommended by a friend, but simply driving by it draws you inside. The owner of the winery lovs art- of all kinds. Great sculptures. Would like to take a tour next time to see what other art may be around the winery. Nice tasting- very helpful server.....spent time with us teaching us a lot about the history of the owner and art.

By Jessica W |

Booked a reservation for tasting here after a recommendation. Our host was Scott who showed us a lovely time. After our tasting we got a great tour of the winery where we learned about all of the art and its connection to the history of the winery.

By Janet T |

We did a seasonal tasting and overall the wine was good. The grounds are also very pretty and we were seated in the old tasting room which was really cool with all the wine barrels surrounding us.

In terms of service, the host who seated us was great. It was raining and she provided all of us umbrellas to walk to the tasting room. Our server unfortunately was the problem. Overall, he was fine and did his job in describing each of the wines that were poured. But nothing more or less, so very transactional. We told him it was our first time at the winery and that some of us were visiting from out of the country. He didn't offer additional information on the winery. We also asked him for water but he never brought it and we had to go to the front and ask for bottles instead. It was odd because every other table he served had water. It could be because we look younger than the usual Napa clientele and unfortunately have experienced this at other wineries before (except the one we signed up for!).

Given the service, we didn't bother looking at their wine club or buying any bottles.

Steven was an excellent tour guide who helped us celebrate our 30th anniversary. It was fun to have him as our personal tour guide, to see the wine cave and facilities, and to learn about the history and beauty of Clos Pegase. Steven was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, the wines were tasty and the overall experience delightful.

By Patricia W |

Went here on recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed! Beautiful grounds and interesting architecture. Friendly staff was very welcoming. Really enjoyed the tour including cave and seated tasting in the wine cave - well worth a little extra cost. Tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the wine and joined their club!

By Elmary B |

This was a fun wine tasting and tour. This was my first wine tasting experience. With great company and great wine, this will be a must every time I come back to California to visit.

My big brother enjoyed it as well and he is not a wine drinker

By Meghan J |

We visited Napa in early June 2018 and visited about 5 wineries. This winery was by far our favorite for so many reasons! First of all, they offered a free wine tasting if you added your email (which we did before arriving). Free wine tastings at major wineries in the area were hard to come by, so we took full advantage! Once we walked onto the grounds of the winery, we fell in love with the building, 16th century sculptures, scenery and more. The staff was absolutely the best service we had in the area! One gentleman spent at least 20 minutes with us telling us the history of their wine, the winery story, and more. We did not get this type of service anywhere else in Napa! And finally, being young and traveling on a budget, Napa is a place where you are not necessarily "welcomed" as wineries want you to sign up for their wine clubs or buy a crate of wine (I wish). This winery never made us feel pressured at all and we truly enjoyed our visit. It actually was the only place I bought a bottle from!

By redsfan5824 |

Had a tremendous experience at Clos Pegase. Wes was very welcoming and took his time to walk us through the cave and to really engage with our group. We finished with our tasting and the wines were truly amazing

By Kristen G |

We had a great time, we enjoyed all 4 of the mixed flights even though I don’t normally love reds. The outdoor seating area was peaceful and lovely and the service was very knowledgeable and friendly.

By Funseeker422 |

Wine Tour was AMAZING, Steve, was very knowledgeable and informative. We had a beautiful day in the valley.

By Jeffry W |

Revisiting after many years.. still beautiful but miss the extensive artwork from the
Jan Stremm era.. wines were good, our server was very nice

By nebguest |

Really enjoyed our tasting at this location. We were able to relax, sample several wines while overlooking their vineyard and Susan, our host, was very informative about the process, the wines and the property. Of the seven we have been to so far, this one definitely has been my favorite because of how relaxing and informative it was!

By Heena V |

Some wineries have refined excellence that mixes well with a casual and laid-back atmosphere. That was the case at Clos Pegase. Staff was friendly helpful and willing to explain all of the lines to those folks who are there for tasting. The grounds are impeccable and very photogenic. Well worth a trip don't forget to make a reservation!

By Kat 639 |

Beautiful winery.Beautiful grounds,an amazing caves. The wine is delightful. The guides are so knowledgable.A winery you dont want to miss.

By Nick S |

Very good customer service. Good wine and very beautiful setting. We sat out side. The chairs outside where kinda uncomfortable and made you lean back to far.

By Jackie2070 |

I was playing it by ear and didn’t really reserve as much as I should have We scored an early tasting. It was awesome! We were not rushed. There was no feeling of that “ I don’t try because I have great marketing” our server was a certified sommelier he was very engaging and knowledgeable.

By jsbutterfield |

We booked connoisseur tour that ended with a tasting in the caves. Gerda was our host and was very knowledgeable about the history of the winery and the production of the wine making. The wines speak for themselves, very enjoyable and complex. The "origami" is a favorite ( cab. and merlot blend). Also enjoyed a 2011and 2005 Hommage Cabernet Sauvignon. Clos Pegase is must visit in Napa, I'm a true fan.

By Colleen M |

Clos Pegase is a great place for tasting. They're usually not too crowded so you can start a tasting right away, their staff is great and they're dog friendly. On top of that, they have a bocci set that is a great way to break up a tasting.

By emfeAthens_Georgia |

Our group had a fun tour here and enjoyed the tour as well as the tasting. This winery is a bit quirky with funky art throughout the house and grounds. There is a lovely picnic spot among the garden art- a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends.

By Lynn R |

This was our first visit to Napa and we are not, by any means, wine people. But, we were willing to learn. We went to Close Pegase after having just spent time at a small, family owned winery. I think this affected our attitude and opinion. We had felt welcomed into the "homey" tasting room and met other members of the family. The owner opened bottle after bottle and was more interested in selling wines than tastings. It was great! We came to Clos Pegase after that experience and, while the winery building and grounds are beautiful for sure, it was a very corporate and cold experience. We got our three tastings with little engagement that left us wanting to pay our tasting fee and head out. This may be the kind of place lots of true wine lovers would enjoy, but if you're looking for an intimate experience, this isn't it.

By Kevin C |

Visited the winery 5 days ago and what a pleasant experience it was. We were taken around the winery by Diane who was not only informative but also very amusing. The wines were excellent with a surprisingly good Syrah. The whole experience was relaxed, informal and left me with the desire to move to Calistoga.

By diane A |

Have only good things to say about our experience last week. Me and my husband shared a common table with 2 other couples (our choice), and this made for a fun tasting. Our server, Steve, did a great job explaining what we were tasting. The wines are very nice which we enjoyed immensely, but equally nice is the story of the place and the artistic touches you will find at the property which reflects the original owner's vision/touch. Wood burning fire added a coziness and warmth to an otherwise
colder January day. Highly recommended.

By PrincessLea20 |

We went here for a friend's welcome dinner for their wedding the next night. It was nice. The ambiance and art were really calming. The wine was okay... Not good, not bad.

By Joseph S |

There are a lot of choices when visiting the Napa Valley, but make sure you take the time to visit Clos Pegase Winery. Our host Scott Salvatierra really made us feel at home and had a lot of wine knowledge, which not all host have. I highly recommend a visit here if you get the chance!

By Countrylawyer |

Diane took our small group on a wonderful tour of the vineyard, caves and entire property. It was really fun and informative. We also sampled a bunch of great wines! Diane has a great approach. Very knowledgeable and pleasant to be around. We loved it.

By sciarapd |

We spent 6 days throughout wine country (Napa and Sonoma) and this was one of the best experiences we had.

Our tasting was very enjoyable - the winery was very quiet. We were the only 2 people sitting outside overlooking the vineyard and there were only an additional 4 or 5 people inside.

The tasting was very laid back and not pushy at all and we loved our host (though I forget her name!) The only way it could have been better was if they were allowed to serve full glasses but I understand their license does not allow this (very few wineries we visited could do this.)

We enjoyed the wine very much and intend to order some to have shipped home.

Worth the stop in!

By kidfree |

We were lucky enough to be guests at a private function at this winery. The setting is magnificent, there is gorgeous art everywhere and our tour guide was wonderful. The winery is designed to separate the working winery area from the enjoyment area. The buildings were designed around this huge tree which is also magnificent. We had a private dinner in the "caves" with different wine with each course. While I cannot speak for the standard tour, I would say that this winery is worth viewing and the wine is well worth the price.

By claudiasutton1 |

Fabulous tour with delicious wines. Beautiful winery and wine caves! The art and architecture make this winery really special.

By Rene M |

It was one of the best wine tastings we had when visiting in Napa the tour was amazing they take you down where they store the barrels and how they make the wine you also get to taste the grapes on the vine best stop on our tour

By Christine15 |

A must see on your wine tour!! The winery was beautiful- the grounds beautiful with modern art scattered throughout. Our tour guide Jason was quite entertaining- had everyone laughing. The wines were spectacular! Make sure you get a tour and not just a tasting. This winery went out of their way to accomodate us (a group of 17.) I will go back!

By casualtraveler318 |

This is winery that truly blends wine and art. The outside has large art pieces of many styles. When you go inside, to the left, is a small room with paintings a few other pieces of art. On their Homage Line of wine, they use art. If you can, call and find out when the tour of the cave is. Though not large, their is art in caves, as well.

The personnel are very knowledgeable and have a long histories in the wine industry. If you tell them you are new to wine tasting (I have witnessed this) and want to learn, they will joyfully teach you. Clos Pegase is a great place to start your tasting. The wines are very reasonably priced to moderately expensive. I strongly recommend trying the sweet wines. There Late Harvest Chardonay is a rare treat.

By Kent D |

Despite the beautiful building and grounds, the lack of service and mediocre wines prompted this rating. It was clear we were allotted 1hour for our tasting. Yet after 90 minutes, we still had not received our final pour. The 2 servers were in lengthy conversations with two groups of wine club members, while the remaining customers were abandoned. Their Sauv Blanc was pleasant but the remaining wines were not. There are so many wonderful tasting experiences in the Napa and Sonoma valleys. We won’t return with guests and subject them to such an unpleasant experience.

By UConnHuskiesAlum |

Susan was great! We traveled to this winery as a group of 4 and had a wonderful time. There wasn't the hustle and bustle you find at some of the other wineries nearby, however, it was a welcome change of pace. Our host, Susan, was inviting, sweet and informative. She didn't rush through the tasting and moved at our pace. We began the tasting in the lounge seating indoors, and then asked to move to the patio to enjoy the view. Susan cleaned off the patio chairs for us and graciously continued the tasting outside - very scenic and relaxing experience on the patio. She was also helpful in providing general tips that were helpful to our visit in Napa. We highly recommend!

By JC |

Beautiful grounds and scenery. We used the 2 for 1 coupon which was a treat. The server was very attentive and sociable. We also ordered the cheese and charcuterie plate which was good. I did not like the meats on the plate because they tasted gamey.

By TonyTiger19 |

Diane was awesome and the tasting was so nice that I will join the wine club. Awesome chardonnay and the environment is so nice that I’ve been twice.

By Caraapril |

Heather was our host and we loved her! She was so knowledgeable, down to earth, and easy going. Heather made the tasting fun and enjoyable while giving us great information about the winery and the wines. We really enjoyed their wines so much that we became members. Thanks for a great visit!

By Julie J |

This winery is absolutely beautiful and exciting! We had such a great time and with Scott being our host it made the experience unforgettable! There is such a great variety. The pinot noir is my fav ;) Had an amazing time and can't thank Scott enough for being so amazing and knowledgeable!

By Prr26 |

We had such a wonderful time on the patio for a tasting. We played giant Jenga with some transient new found friends while tasting wines with the characteristic cherry, tobacco, leather and heavy mouthfeels that you would expect of a Napa red wine. Joined the wine club and we will be back!

By TLB0707 |

Our wine guide Diane was a real pleasure and this review is no offense to her. The wines were okay but not good enough for us to join the club or take any home. The outdoor chairs really sucked. It felt like we were laying on the ground. Indoors the acoustics were awful and it was too loud. Definitely not a repeat for us!

By Peter A Morrell |

On one of the stops during a wine tour on the Napa Valley Wine Trolley, we were so impressed with our first stop, Castello Di Amarosa, we were curious as to what we would find next. Behold one of the most unique wineries in the Napa, Clos Pegase. From the Romanesque entrance to the statue of Bacchus, we were in for a treat. The winery itself is housed in a very modern contemporary block of buildings with part of carved right into the caves that are right on the property. That's right 20,000 square feet of the winery are located in those caves.

This winery is all about wine, not just the grapes the process or the product, it really is a place that lives what wine is. As I walked through the main entrance and made my way to the main entrance I was brought back to the essence of what a gift wine is. The tour of this magnificent winery was very professional and as we made our way past the rooms, the barrels and into the caves it felt as if we were transported into another time.

I felt as if I was in a place that catered to the wine Gods. The tunnels in the caves were finely decorated and as we made our way into cave theatre I felt more and more like I was a part of the spirit of wine. In a beautifully crafted hall, we were able to see a truly amazing space that paid homage to Gods of wine. Did I mention we tasted some excellent wines? I'm am by no means a Rose drinker but for one of the first times, in a long time, I tasted a couple of very well made and enjoyable Rose's. The reds and white were top-notch as well and I drank every drop of every wine I tasted. Clos Pegase is truly a wine lovers experience and an absolute must if you're ever in Napa.

By Jeanne B |

We had a great time. The wine was delicious, and our host was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of timing. We even joined the club. We recommend visiting this gem!

By matkins52 |

Lovely setting both inside and out. We felt embraced by the vines still heavy with fully ripe grapes. Very generous with their pours and extremely accommodating. The charcuterie board is a must as well.

By Jodie A |

We love wine and enjoy exploring different wineries … so after a weekend in Temecula, we took a trip to Napa. Somehow, we stumbled upon (what is now my favorite winery ever), Clos Pegase. Our visit was hosted by Scott and he was remarkable … very friendly and knowledgeable, without being pretentious and educated us form A-Z. We will most definitely return and request Scott as our host; this was an A+ experience!

By Ann Z |

Did the estate tour and tasting and it was a great time. Heather provided a fun, down to earth tour and the wine was excellent. We ended up joining the wine club and we were not disappointed when our first bottles arrived shortly after we returned home. Wish we were closer so we could visit more often.

By Amy S |

Beautiful winery. Arvind was so knowledgeable and accommodating for our party of 9. We enjoyed the wine and left with several bottles and glasses to enjoy at home. A must stop if your’re in the area! You won’t be disappointed.

By Laurie D |

The wine tasting cost us but the wine was very good. The staff was friendly. The courtyard was nice but had no interesting plants. We were expecting a wonderful sculpture garden but the former owners took most of the sculptures and artwork with them so the nice courtyard and dramatic building was sort of bare. There was one nice art glass sculpture. We bought a bottle of wine to enjoy later.

By Mike |

We visit Napa frequently and are always visiting different wineries. Clos Pegase was an absolutely pleasant experience. The service during are tasting was informational and responsive. Wine taste great and was affordable. Will definitely return.

By traveldiscounterscom |

it was a girl's weekend and they had nice, cheap, girl's weekend souvenirs, plus free tour of the winery which was not bad at all.

By 3Ellisons |

My husband and I were interested in this winery because of the caves in the Diamond Mountain area that are part of the winery. We were disappointed that we didn't get to see the caves because of a private tasting that was taking place but the tasting was so much fun it didn't matter! Brian helped us with the wines and he was awesome! We had great conversation and he was extremely knowledgeable about the wine. We are wine "novices" and he didn't appear to mind giving us some basic lessons and answering what may have been dumb questions. The wines were also very enjoyable and even though I've never really cared for red wine, I found myself leaving with a tasty bottle of Pinot Noir!

By moviegal226 |

I'm a long time wine club member at Cosentino Winery and I was excited to learn that one of my new benefits was a complimentary tasting for two at Clos Pegase. It's always fun to discover a new winery so we made the trek up to Calistoga for a visit. While I enjoyed the wines and the hospitality, the outrageous hard sell to join their wine club was simply unforgivable.

We walked into the mostly empty tasting room and were warmly greeted by a man at the front desk. We told him we were club members at their sister property and he got us set up at the tasting bar with Gerta, an older lady with a heavy European accent. Gerta was chatty, lovely and very knowledgeable about all of the wines and told us many facts about each as she poured. I was surprised at how tasty the wines were, especially the Cabernets. The price points were generally right on with only a few being a bit overpriced for what they were.

We were able to taste anything we wanted on either tasting flight menu, something I thought was a very, very nice touch. Usually "free" tastings mean you are stuck with only being able to sample the most basic options a winery has to offer, but not here. We are most definitely wine connoisseurs and I appreciated being taken seriously and given the opportunity to sample the "reserve" wines.

Everything about this experience was great except for one thing so egregious that it made my star rating plummet from a 4 to a 2: the outrageous hard sell to join their wine club. Look, I know that tasting room staff get huge bonuses when they sign people up for their club, but I felt like I was at a timeshare presentation instead of on vacation trying to enjoy myself. Gerta was putting SO MUCH PRESSURE on us that I almost joined just so she would STOP. With every wine she poured she went on and on about how we should join the club, how it was an amazing deal, how we could come up once a year and they'd give us free sandwiches, etc. Even if I HAD been interested in joining, I wouldn't have during my visit because of how annoyingly pushy she was.

Think I'm exaggerating? I'm not. Gerta's final, exasperated line was trying to convinced us to "go ahead and sign up today," then "put your club membership on hold." Wait, what? She was basically encouraging us to sign up, never accept a shipment, then cancel after a few months. This makes me think she must've gotten a huge bonus for all new sign-ups. She didn't care if we were members, she just wanted that initial sign-up credit! I'm guessing if management takes a look at all the new sign-ups this lady has they will see a definite pattern!

Just thinking about this hard sell for the club leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. I did buy a $55.00 bottle of wine that I enjoyed but I would've purchased more if not for that obnoxious employee. I also got the feeling she would start talking crap about us behind our backs the minute we left. Just a feeling I guess.

Based on this experience I will not return to Clos Pegase nor would I recommend it to anyone. Why bother trying to experience new wines when you'll be bombarded with a timeshare presentation? No thanks.

By Murz99 |

Property is beautiful. Not over the top, commercialized as some of the other bigger wineries. Estate tasting tour was great. Heather kept it fun and took us to the dramatic wine caves that could be reserved for events. Best part was we were very impressed with their wines.

By RWinFC |

So I may be biased because I'm a Close Pegase wine club member, but I always love visiting the winery for a pick up when possible. Had wonderful, attentive, engaging service this last visit with Diane. Really nice wines which is why I've been a member there for years. Especially their Homage Chardonnay

By urbanetraveler |

It didn't hurt that the vintner was chatting with us....but Clos Pegase is on beautiful grounds, provides a good overview of the wine making process and, of course, has the most fabulous wines.

By Volleyballmanman |

Our guide Wes made the day memorable. Knowledgeable, funny and a great storyteller, Wes is a huge asset to this winery. The tour is fascinating and the wines quite good. We learned a lot about the winemaking process.

By AndaluciaDubai |

Clos pegase stands apart from the rest as it has some fabulous wines at great prices and also do a wine membership that ships out 4 wines every quarter to you. Of the 5 vineyards we visited , this ones wine and wine blends was by far the best.

By Lisa S |

I found an online 2 for 1 for Clos Pegase Winery and we decided to go when we visited our wine club for a pick up. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we sat outside while we were sampling good wine. We ended up buying 2 bottles of wine and will definitely visit again in the futurel

By Simon Y |

Stephen gave us a tour of some of the grounds and the wine cave. It was beautiful fun and informative. I liked the history of the winery the best. The wines were of course excellent as well.

By Jeff C |

I have been a wine club member and Clough gas winery for 30 years and the reason is they offer wonderful wines so that is a realistic price. The juice is great.

By koleary89 |

A fun experience, a boxed lunch while wine tasting was a great way to do lunch. The sandwiches were good the wine better!

By pammundell |

We had a great time with Wes our host on Sunday. He informed of us of the history behind Clos Pegase and was very knowledgeable with the area.
The wine tasting was phenomenal, and the weather cleared up for us to sit outside and enjoy the garden. The winery is designed by a famous architect, so the building and the gardens are spectacular.
Every time I go to Calistoga, I stop at Clos Pegase, because the wine is amazing. I do not drink white wines much but their Chardonnay is the best. All of their red wines are fantastic. Next time I want to see a concert in their spectacular caves.

A great experience! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our server, Diane, was a delight and helpful with our tastings. Beautiful grounds and a great place to enjoy a lunch with your tasting.

I had some time to spare between appointments in Calistoga so made a return visit to Clos Pegase. The winery has changed considerably but retains its welcoming tasting room with excellent wines. The staff was most friendly and informative about the vintages and events hosted by the winery.

The wine is delicious and this is the BEST winery tour I have ever done. Starting from how the vineyard was founded and laid out to how the grapes grow and get processed, this tour is definitely worth your time. Susan was the best at answering our questions and our group was small so very interactive. We became members immediately!

Unfortunately our schedule didn't permit us to take a tour of Clos Pegase (we went during the week when regular tours are a little sparse). However, we did enjoy the grounds and architecture. It is quite beautiful and interesting. The tasting room is well-furnished as well with the centerpiece being the wine (of course). For $10, the tasting was well worth the price.

Personally, I really enjoyed the 2004 Chardonnay. Their new merlot just came out the day we visited (I didn't get the vintage, sorry!) and I was a little disappointed.

I wasn't disappointed in the visit, however. It's not out of the way and is worth it to soak in the beauty of this great winery.

By N G |

We had a spectacular time here. Wes gave us so much interesting info about the wines, the winery and the caves. We came on bikes and the bike trail was great…..just a couple of miles from downtown Calistoga. Also, tasted some really good wines!

By Denny T |

Located a few miles away from the downtown Napa area. This was a shop on the wine trolley for a day out in the Napa region. Property grounds are simple and spacious.

The facility offers a tour into it's cave and winery. The tour is fairly quick but fascinating. Staff was friendly and answered questions regarding the grounds.

After the tour we had a catered lunch and wine tastings. The tasting consisted of about four or five wines some of their private wine club and most from the public selection. My palette did not care for public bottles.

Pricing was moderate. Nor expensive nor a value. There was no discount for wine tasting and purchasing a bottle.

Good: private selection, tour, and service.
Bad: no value pricing.

Three Stars

We were fortunate enough to be able to walk into a tour and tasting on a weekday morning. We were a group of 4 plus Diane, our guide. We took a walk through of the grounds and explored the cellars. We were then seated at a table in the cellar where 4 wines and various tastes were served. Conversation revolved around the history of the grapes and what to look for when tasting wine. This was a first small group tasting experience for us, so we were pleasantly surprised at how unpretentious and informative it all was. There was definitely a wine club sales pitch following the tour, but nothing that couldn't be declined if so desired. The Cabernet at Clos Pegase was wonderful and the tour is definitely worth the time and cost, especially for a novice.

Highly recommend visiting Clos Pegase - we had a lovely wine tasting and our sommelier/server was incredibly knowledgeable and kind.

By Carol G |

Very welcoming, beautiful setting and Susan was very educational and patient. Also offered a delicious charcuterie board.

By Emily S |

The wines that I tasted here were great and even bought some bottles to carry home. The grounds were also quite lovely. Our experience, however, was ruined by the very unpleasant staff member who poured our tasting. She was unfriendly and her pours were very small (two things we never encountered at the other 11 wineries we went to over our Napa weekend).

By Wallace G |

Each of our large group (11) rated this as one of our favorite tastings on this vacation trip. Diane did an excellent job hosting us and sharing the background on the winery and the wines. We enjoyed everyone of their wines. Their port is exceptional - you will have a hard time finding an equal, much less one better. Their wines are reasonably priced, especially if you consider the quality. Two of us, both wine makers, were impressed to the point that we joined their wine club.

The grounds were beautiful but the weather was nasty, otherwise we would have liked a tour. We would like to do that on a future trip and participate in one of their season events.

By nicolevalencic |

This was a fantastic experience! What a beautiful and elegant winery. We had a great afternoon - the wines were outstanding and the staff were very knowledgeable. We were greeted by Scott who was was very friendly and knowledgeable about wine. He led our tour and tasting and talked to us about the beautiful grounds, artwork and history of the winery. His passion for the wines made the experience for us. You can tell that he loves what he does!

By SRXer |

We had a great tasting! Nick was awesome and gave us a lot of information. He arranged for an unscheduled charcuterie plate and gave us a tour of the caves. The wines were great as was the views!

By Robin R |

Our tour guide was very accommodating to our needs, also most informative regarding winery details and historical features of the property. The architecture is gorgeous and the landscaping beautiful. The all around tour was quite pleasant culminating in the cave tasting with very yummy snacks. Our fourth tour this trip and we joined the Wine Club.

This winery was the first one we visited (4/17) during our week stay in Calistoga. Needless to say we were very excited and looking forward to beautiful vineyards and great wine. I would like to report that the experience at Clos Pagase was wonderful but the man serving the wine took back anything positive I could say about this winery. He was extremely rude and curt when asked questions - acting as if the question was beneath him. At one point he explained that he normally performs accounting type work for the winery. My suggestion - keep him in the back office - he has no personality and should not be interacting with guests. Fortunately for us, every other winery that we visited during our stay had incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff and great wine!

By Brenda B |

We joined Clos Pegase on our first visit in May. We returned this week and it was as beautiful as ever. The staff is so enjoyable and the wines really great. They also gave us a great restaurant recommendation and we loved it.

By lquadros |

We did our wine tasting here as part of the Calistoga Winery Passport tasting. We were promptly seated outside with a gorgeous view of the grape vines and the spring mustard flowers.
Our sommelier came and greeted us and bought the wines in 4 pretty little glass decanters. The amount of wine given here is very generous. As the wines were poured, the person held up a map and explained the whole region, the weather, the soil, history, the location etc everything that leads the the wines that make Napa a world famous region. The person was very dedicated, hats off to her. The wines of course were extremely good.
We walked around after the tasting and took some gorgeous pictures of the property. This place is a must visit. A+++++

By Treece M |

Wonderful tasting experience! Wine tasting at Clos Pegase reminded us of the way Napa Valley used to be. Quality wines, fair prices, generous tastings, lovely surroundings, attentive but not pressuring sommelier, comfortable seating areas, and beautiful grounds off the busy and beaten path. We enjoyed it so much we became Wine Club members. Can’t wait to go back!

By matt k |

We had the wonderful experience of a wine tasting/ food pairing in the caves at Clos Pegase Winery. It is unlike anything we experienced at any other winery. Several wines were outstanding and the staff was very attentive and informative.

By Seneca H |

This review is specifically for the exceptional service that Shelly provided our group. We came in without any reservations for wine tasting and Shelly quickly accommodated us. Timing on each pour was great. She was very sincere and caught on that we were celebrating my wife's birthday. To make my wife's day special, She provided each of us a glass of champagne and also included great details and history of the winery. Since I am not a wine drinker I cannot say how good the wine was but my party said it was well worth it.
I believe the entire staff was delightful by looking around at each group and watching the interactions.
My review is pretty much bias since Shelly was our server, she did a fantastic job! Highly recommend visiting this winery!

By Nanci B |

What a lovely way to end our day with some great people at Clos Pegase! Thank you especially to our new friends, Isaac and Stephen, terrific representatives of this wonderful winery. Thank you boys for a great time. We’re joining the club!

By RayRayUK |

I was very fortunate to have Wes on 3 cave tours during my visit and he did not disappoint! I had a great tour on my first visit with Russ, then decided to it again with Lionel and lastly that I decided to do it again with my friend Chip. I was fortunate to have Wes as you guide as I was still learning on my second and third visit about Clos Pegase, so I highly recommend to do the cave tour a second time! It was great learning about the Clos Pegase wines and even better tasting the wines! Everyone at the winery is great including Jacob the estate director and Melonie the tasting wine manager! I can't wait until my next visit next summer!

By Priscilla |

Gorgeous scenery. Fell in love during my 1st visit, became a member by the end. Recently went a 2nd time and still love it.
Wes is an amazing host. Very relaxed and comfortable energy.

Cave yours have opened and I cant wait to book.

Membership is reasonable, with a few tiers and very customizable !!

What I can say is that Clos Pegase has a much more relaxed approach to wine tasting. Versus a host pouring each glass as a course. You choose a flight and they bring a tray with mini crafts and a card with each description. The host will give a run down of each and then give you space.

They have a grass field that is great. Dog Friendly.

By Jan R |

We love the experience and the wines at Clos Pegase. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Truly a relaxing experience. We’ve been to many other wineries in Napa, Sonoma, Oregon and this is by far the best experience.

By watraveler |

Lovely, classy winery in Calistoga! We had a private tasting which was fabulous and as a result we joined their wine club. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable and showed us around the winery and the room with the wine barrels. The outside grounds are lovely as well. There are several seating areas to have a nice outdoor lunch. The vineyards are well kept and beautiful!

By Ambajejus |

The architecture of this winery made it stand out. It was beautiful, but, in my opinion out of place among the more quaint wineries and tasting rooms in Calistoga. The tasting room was cavernous in comparison with the others. This made for a rather impersonal setting with lots of folks standing around. The wines were fine. We went there on the Calistoga Passport. I'm not sure I would go back when there are so many others from which to choose.

By madge1225 |

Had a tour and tasting with Scott Salvatierra. Beautiful location and excellent wines. Be sure to book ahead

By caraj00 |

We were looking for a winery to have lunch at during our wine tasting day and discovered you could pre-order a picnic lunch at Clos Pegase - so we went there!
A sandwich (there were several types to choose from), crisps, cookie, with a corkscrew and bag as a memento, eaten in their patio area in the sunshine next to the grape vines, was a wonderful midday meal.
And of course, we bought a bottle to have with our meal and afterwards we did a tasting!
The meal was so filling, I'm sure no one would go hungry afterwards.

By 46WM2024 |

We were not going to stop in but then thought what the heck! And were we ever glad we did. The wines are AMAZING! Picked up a bottle of 2014 Clos Pegase Merlot, Mitsuko's Vineyard Carneros $40. A great blend. So good! The winery is lovely, the grounds beautiful. Definitely worth a visit, you will not be disappointed!!

By mooki x |

End of the Silverado trail so we drove a little ways. Nice courtyard. The server was pleasant but there were 'members' there having lunch so he didn't pay as much attention to us. Wine was ok. Left empty handed. ok to stop once. Not sure I would go back.

By SassyGirlJenna729 |

This was the last and fourth winery of the day we visited. We almost didn't, but I'm glad we did. It was a pleasant experience, though I took no wine home. I will say this winery did not have the impact on me that Sterling Vineyards or the Castle had. But, I'm glad we went. It was included in the "Winter in the Wineries" Passport. I would love to go back and do the caves tour. I can agree that it did seem more impersonal and less warm than the other wineries, with a very modern feel.

By genv476 |

Two of us visited Napa yesterday (early Sunday afternoon) and Clos Pegase was a recommended must stop. The architecture and property are stunning. Our first comment was WOW! Tasting room was inviting and nice. We were early in the day and there was only one other couple tasting at the bar. When we departed about 45-minutes later, there were perhaps 20 tasting at the bar. Wines are very good. Service (Ted) was 5-star. Super tall, outgoing, friendly and knowledgeable dude! We highly recommend this as a must see and tasting experience when in Calistoga

By Raymond K |

Beautiful winery and outdoor setting. Heather did an exceptional job with our selected wine flight. All of our selected wines were very good!

By Trust.absolute.unconditional |

I had an amazing time at this winery. Wonderful architecture and great wine.we tried the range of red and white wine, and were happy with both. Our host Steve made our whole time memorable. I walked away with a greater knowledge of the wine making process and Napa valley. Definitely worth the stop, they take care of you:)

By Gwen J |

Absolutely great experience. Arvin was excellent. Very informative tasting. Look forward to coming back in the spring.

By Stefanie D |

Staff was friendly, wine was pretty good. We tasted the wines at the bar inside. Nothing special to this place. Interesting architectural design of the building- modern style with giant concrete balls and stucco style outdoor walls with a charcoal color. We were not overly impressed with the place, but the staff was super nice and knowledgable. I would say if you want an experience with a better atmosphere (I.e.- outside or romantic) go elsewhere. If you want to taste inside at a bar- go here.

By Alexa F |

Visited several wineries in Napa and had a great experience at all of them except Clos. The premises is beautiful, but the minute we got there, we felt our presence was unwelcomed as our appointment was the last before closing. The workers were making exasperated comments to each other about how busy they were, as if customers weren’t sitting right in front of them. We were rushed to finish our glasses or pour it out so they could pour the next. When we asked for a new glass, the server said no because of “COVID California laws” which was complete BS since other wineries had no problem providing extra glasses. And finally they told us to our faces that they wanted us out at 3pm sharp. Worst experience thus far. Skip this one

By Douglas S |

Cave tour with Isaac was great! We had a great time visiting! Worth checking out! Be sure to visit this winery.

By Jolene U |

Went in for the tasting and to see the art. Worth the trip up from Berkeley. Wines were nice as well. Everyone pouring was fun and interesting. They were opening up some older bottles and selling them for a discount, so can't wait to open our "surprise" in a few weeks. Good explanation of agricultural practices in the area.

By JASLAURG |

The winery itself is beautiful and unique in structure. The underground cave and wine tasting experience was interesting and fun.

Our tour guide Wes was very knowledgeable, however, talked a lot about himself. Additionally, after purchasing wines and returning home, we realized we received the wrong wines. After contacting Wes to inform him of mistake, he informed us we would receive the correct wines in a day or so. We are working individuals, not from home, and received a call from Wes claiming he misplaced our address now changing delivery date causing undue stress on our work scheduling.

If you go to check out, I'd highly recommend another tour guide!

By John B |

Got to admit a very quiet Thursday am in July was pretty special. Servers could not have been more attentive. Wine was impressive. Architecture a knockout. So great we joined the wine club!

By GVHall |

We visited Clos Pegase for their Mixed Wine Estate Flight and had a fantastic experience. We sat outdoors in a lovely patio area, and our host, Wes, brought out a parade of delicious wines. We were so impressed that we joined their wine club.

During a stay at Indian Springs we took bikes south from Calistoga on a bike trail which brought us to Clos Pegase. A beautiful winery with picnic facilities. The staff were helpful and friendly. Did a tasting and ended up joining their wine club. Love the Cabernets they produce. Wine club shipments can be tailored to your taste. Love the area and this is a great spot we visit each time we are there.

By Kimberly M |

We had a free tasting pass which led us here. Just ok, the art work has been removed since the most recent owner purchased the winery so don't expect that when you arrive. The wine wasn't amazing but wasn't bad either.

By Lauren P |

We had such an amazing experience during our wine tasting. During our tour we learned so many interesting facts about the Napa Valley region, the various grapes, how they make and store wines, and most importantly - how to properly taste a wine! We had so much fun and enjoyed every second of the tasting. We highly recommend this tour!

By Hollyeliz12 |

What a gorgeous place to kick off a wine county weekend. We loved strolling the beautiful grounds and enjoying the wonderful wines. We thought it would be stuffy considering how impressing the collection is. We found the opposite to be true. We were hosted by Scott and he went out of his way to make sure we felt comfortable and had a first rate experience. His knowledge of the winery, surrounding restaurants and wine in general were beyond impressive. But the fact that he explained it to us like we were old friends made the whole experience so fun and relaxing. We will be back for sure. Thanks Scott!

By jeffpags |

From the road the place looks pretty basic, but they have a nice tasting room, and courtyard. They also have a amazing underground wine cellar where they do tastings--highly recommended if you can experience this tasting. Wines are really good and we joined the wine club to continue getting them back home

By John B |

Clos Pegase, which is at the far north end of Napa Valley, has a modern vaguely Romanesque exterior in a lovely setting surrounded by hills and its vineyard. It offers two different flights of five superb estate wines in red and white or red-only options for $30-$45. The tasting room offers an understated elegant venue -- not large -- with group tables and smaller more cozy seating. The staff is totally professional and knowledgeable. You're sure to enjoy this one, but consider making a reservation in advance.

By Robert M |

Wine caves and monumental architecture. Friendly and knowledgeable tasting room staff. The Hommage cab is to die for--a standout red in a strong field. The Merlot (72%) surprised me. I don't generally favor Merlot, but this one is very drinkable on its own.

By SBallCT |

We stopped to see the architecture--Michael Graves' Palladian-inspired masterpiece in the Napa Valley vineyards, which is truly majestic. We wondered around and into the elegant but empty tasting rooms. After a nice conversation with the friendly staff, we decided to share a tasting that was so good, we joined the wine club--partly to get the discount and partly because it includes guided special tours for two through the vineyards and wine making process. An impressive contrast to the over-hyped disappointment at the once-good Sterling Vineyards.

By Curt P |

We opted for the estate tour and tasting, it was a great choice. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable, the tour was informative, and the wine was great.

By Shankar M |

Wow - this place is a hidden gem!

Probably a bit overshadowed (unjustifiably) by the better known names that are located before on Hwy 29, Clos Pegase turned out to be a terrific winery that I would highly recommend. They make a decent variety of wines (Cab, Pinot, Merlot, S.Blanc, Rose and more) and they are all excellent quality. The estate is a beautiful property very tastefully done up with impressive art and a classy, elegant ambience. I would also advise - don't just taste, take the tour. We opted for the Connoisseur Cave Tour & Tasting and it was the best tour and tasting experience I've had (I live close to Napa, and have visited many wineries in the region). Our guide, Heather was outstanding, patiently explaining the intricate details of winemaking (we visited in the Fall, the harvest season) and taking us sequentially through the steps in winemaking, answering even our silly questions patiently, never rushing, and always displaying professionalism with a dash of good humor and subject matter expertise in winemaking. The final tasting room in the caves is one of the best I've seen - the atmosphere was cool, tranquil, classy, and very romantic!
Five Stars

Be sure to arrive at tour time and then go to the tasting room. These are truly premium wines and the art collection is one of the best private collections in the country. Well worth a visit.

Clos Pegase was THE best winery experience of our entire trip. We visited 14 wineries and this one was without a doubt the best! We were greeted by name with a glass of wine, the hostess was knowleable and so friendly. The grounds and cave tour are awesome and the food pairing inside the cave is off the charts!! We tasted undistributed wines and the value for the high end quality wine is unmatched. This should be A MUST VISIT for anyone looking for that perfect winery

By Nicholas M |

Enjoyable experience and nice service. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Excellent wine tasting. Recommend for anyone.

By JG G |

Loved this place. Setting is beautiful. Wine tasting was great. The staff even gave the kids Etch-a-Sketches to play with while we tasted the wine.

By Stephanie C |

Clos Pegasus wine tasting was a delight! Beautiful setting, attentive service, knowledgeable staff and tasty wines! Go, you will enjoy!

This was our first stop and several wineries later, one of the best. Loved the wines and am taking some home. Casual presentation. Educational. Great experience.

By tronix |

Had a memorable time enjoying the top notch wine and amazing property. There was a mixup with our tasting reservation however they were able to accommodate us while being short staffed. I’d like to personally thank Wes for his attention, knowledge, humor and behind the scenes tour. Don’t miss the Pino, Syrah and Cab. Thanks Wes you are the man! Will be back for sure.

Heather was very informative and fun at explaining the wines and how this winery was started. The caves were fun .The grounds were beautiful. Was my first trip to Napa Valley!

We had a great time at Clos Pegase. The grounds are beautiful and the wine was great. Definitely ask to taste with Isaac--he was friendly, fun, and very knowledgable. We were able to taste grapes and walk between the vines.

By Shevlin Pierce |

We drove up to the top of the valley and were using the little WiFi we had left in hopes of finding another tasting or two to end the day...and luckily we stumbled across Clos Pegase. They accommodated us with a 20-minute call ahead request and we were welcomed with a RESERVED area which was a nice touch. Our entertainer was Joan Mendoza and he was knowledgeable, personable, and just charismatic. We opted for the REDS ONLY tasting at $45. The wines were good (minus the Pinot) and the ambiance was lovely. We did the quick cave tour as well, which was worth it! After visiting 4 vineyards - this is the only spot we actually purchased wine to ship home AND had he best customer experience :).

By Samir J |

Had an amazing time down in the cellar. Got a private tasting and had the opportunity to try some unique wines. They people are really nice. Had a nice, romantic candlelight wine tasting session.

By Y H |

We went to this beautiful vineyard which thankfully was family friendly. They had a wide variety of grapes and allowed us to taste fresh Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that were next to the tasting area. You can choose between sitting inside or outside. Their wine educators were so patient and told us the history of the vineyard and well as the vintages.

By Maria C |

Had a really great experience at this Winery! We encountered severe traffic on our way up to the winery and arrived 45 minutes late to our reservations, thankfully they were very accommodating and did not hurry us in any way! The ambience is amazing and our server (Heather) was outstanding. She wasn't overwhelming in any kind of way, and poured our flights in just the right amount of time spread out. I've been to Napa several times but hadn't experienced this winery before. The patio area has a really nice overlook of the vineyards and couple of hills out in Napa valley. My party and I enjoyed the mixed wines flights, which was perfect tasting!

By Susan C |

Brian gave us a tour of the art inside and then we strolled the grounds to enjoy the outdoor art/installations. Well worth the trip (especially in tandem with Sterling)for those willing to drive up from Napa/Sonoma

By scottr1960 |

Excellent wine and food pairing on the cave tour. It is well worth the extra cost to experience this winery in the best way

By jenhaught |

This was our second stop of the day. It had a clean and modern feel. They opened a new tasting room a couple days before so enjoyed the design and the couches we cozied up on. We ended up there over an hour doing our tasting and chatting with our host. The wines were a little dry for my taste but the experience was still terrific.

By RowlandCarson |

We were impressed by the architecture and the standard of the artwork on display. The wines were less to our taste as we do not care for the very oakey flavour that this vineyard seems to lean towards. We bought only one bottle, and so had to pay for the tasting as well. We didn't have time to take the tour, but are unlikely to go back there just for that. Compared to other wineries, the staff seemed a bit snooty although quite polite.

By Margaret P |

This is by far our favorite winery experience! We came on our own the first time and then brought other couples back with us the next two years. And we will be back again...

Tour begins with a tasting in the tasting room and continues with a discussion of the genisis of the winery and perusal of the architecture and grounds which are stunning, along with an up-close look at the vines. Then into the belly of the operation to have the process explained from picking to bottling. And along the way there are a couple of others tastes I believe.

But the best is saved for last. This part will knock your socks off! We never tell our guests what's coming and let them experience it the way we did the first time. We entered the vast cave of the winery which is naturally cool and fragrant with an earthy smell that always speaks to me. We wound our way through various areas as things were explained and discussed. No question too big or too small. Finally we reached a long candlelit run with sculptures in niches leading to a beautifully appointed table with multiple wine glasses and a platter of various tastes for each guests.

Our excellent guide, Susan Paige, guided us through the various wines and tastes. A wonderful experience in a magical setting, with every wine being special.

Susan explained that for anyone who wanted to join the wine club, two tour fees would be refunded, a $120 total savings. As we really enjoy the Clos Pegasse wines, we took her up on it, along with 25% extra savings on any wines purchased that day.

If my description of our experience appeals to you, do not miss the opportunity to make a reservation to visit Clos Pegasse. And if you really want to make it special, keep the cave tasting a surprise!

By cjosnato |

The wine was good, not great. Still, we walked away with two new wines which are now in our regular purchasing rotation.

The 5-stars, however, comes from the cave tour and tasting. Our guide Arvind was incredible, the setup was neat, and is hands down the best tour we went on during our 10-vineyard trip. Would go 1000 times over. We had to run to another vineyard, and really regretted having to leave.

By Napagal123 |

Stunning winery well known for excellent hospitality and wines. We were greeted warmly, and given a choice where to sit in their outdoor vineyard area . Diana, our wine host, was fun, excellent, knowledgeable and very personable. The weather was FANTASTIC: 70 degrees and sunny on Feb. 5!!! Jacob, the estate manager also came out and greeted us personally. They have a nice charcuterie plate available too. We will return again!

In case you didn't know, the Calistoga "Winter in the Wineries" Passport program has been extended to April, due to the Gov's recent shut down, which is now lifted.

By Kelly D |

We attended as one of the last tours of the day, but it did NOT feel rushed at all. All employees were very friendly (guide, production workers, customer service). Our guide, Heather, was a great time and super knowledgeable on the history of the Winery as well as the processes and methods used to make, package, and store the wine. The caves were very cool and the small snacks made to go with the wines were phenomenal. Architecture of the winery is also a reason we picked this winery over others. We liked the wine and vibe so much that we joined the wine club! Definitely worth a stop at Clos Pegase.

By Pacorulz |

Clos Pegase was definitely one of our faves after 5 days of tours and tasting! Stephen gave our tour and was so fun and personable. The property and caves are beautiful and wine is fantastic. They provide a personal touch unlike some of those large production “corporate” places.

By msmichelleberger |

My husband and I visited Clos Pegase about a month ago, and we're so glad we did! Not only are the wines wonderful (and actually affordable!), but the the warm and welcoming hospitality was a little unexpected considering how grand of an estate it is. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we felt like we were welcomed in like old friends. Scott was our host and he was just wonderful. We talked about food, wine, history, art, and even philosophy! It's the kind of place where we felt like we were sitting with friends having great conversation while drinking wine. Don't miss this place!

By Brittany |

We enjoyed our afternoon at close Pegase, which ended up being a favorite! We bought a bottle of the San Blanc and hung out on the outside patio. Cornhole boards, Jenga games, and cool statues around. Very relaxed atmosphere. Will be back!

By Marie M |

Such a beautiful facility with a whimsical art piece to great you at the entrance that is a MUST photo opportunity. Staff was great and very accomodating. Wine is just as great as the facility!!

By Regan S |

Very knowledgeable staff and the wine was exceptional. The house is a bit quirky but there are interesting art sculptures all over the grounds which makes it fun.

By ebimbo |

When looking at the list of wineries in the Napa Valley, it can be a bit overwhelming. I brought my wife to Clos Pegase after visiting there in the early 90's. The winery left such a good impression, I had to return. Even if you aren't a wine drinker, eat a picnic lunch in their re-production 17th century garden and stroll the ground to view the sculptures.

We signed up for the Artisan wine tour which included their reserve wines and a tour of the caves. It's a great place to be when the outside temps are over 90. We were the only couple on the tour, so we had plenty of quality time with our tour guide. We also got great tips on places to eat while in Napa.

But we were there for wines. The tasting in a private room was awesome, delicious and educational. Our guide was a certified wine snob and treated us to some very good varieties with plenty of time to savor and discuss. We ended up having a case shipped home, including some recently released 1995 Cabernets. I remembered all of the Clos Pegase offerings to have a silky smooth texture, even back when I was a beer drinker.

This is the kind of place where time slows down. If you're on a schedule to hit as many vineyards as possible, don't both stopping here. Grab a lunch at CalMart, sign up for one of the tours and plan on spending a few hours of peace.

By montereychic |

We made our first visit to Clos Pegase Winery just a few days ago. It was raining- just one day shy of the New Year's Eve day flood! But we had a great time at Clos Pegase! As you walk up through the gardens to enter the tasting room, you are treated to a variety of sculpture, both ancient and modern. One of our favorites is a very old marble fountain of Dionysus (or Bacchus, more commonly known). There is also many other examples of more current sculpture, such as a giant thumb rising out of the ground, and a gorgeous fountain, just before you enter the tasting room.

The tasting room/winery is a beautiful example of architecture. As our guide explained, the owner hosted a competition of architects to build his winery. Michael Graves, a well-known architect, won and did a fine job. Tours of the winery and the gorgeous caves are offered. I recommend taking a tour, which is about 1hr or so. Ours was all indoors since the rain was bad. I will revisit in better weather. The caves are very romantic, and a popular event site. My husband's company is actually hosting a party here in Febuary. Another aspect I found interesting is that Clos Pegase does all its own production on site. Not common for many wineries that are not "mass production".

The wines: Every palate is different, but we liked and bought the following, in order of our most favorite: 2001 Home Ranch Reserve Port, Napa Valley; 2002 Pegase Circle Reserve Claret, Napa Valley; and the 2002 Pegase Circle Reserve Pegaso, (red blend) Napa Valley.

Don't miss a visit here. The tasting room staff is friendly, and the tours interesting. The wine is good, and the art breathtaking.

Thank you so much for a great tasting. We were a little late due to another tour that went way over on time and I called and the people at Clos Pegase were very kind to accommodate us. We enjoyed the wine very much!

My fiancé and I went on a long weekend with another couple celebrating a birthday. Clos Pegase was one of our first wineries. We had a private tasting and tour booked and not only did we love our tour guide but when she took us through the caverns we came across this beautifully decorated room, candle lit and romantic, we asked if their was going to be a wedding there and she said, no, this is for you! We were collectively awestruck! We felt so spoiled and honored. Yes, it wasn't cheap but we all agreed it was the BEST experience any of us had out of the 16 wineries we visited and all the private tours we booked. We joined their wine club and took 2 bottles with us that day. You know what they say, save the best for last and that would be my advice... once you go there, none of the others will compare so save it for your last day!

Great wine and a terrific bartender. we had a wonderful time, although we missed the art work we saw 10 years ago.

By FreedomBus |

We have visited this winery when the gardens were dotted with beautiful statues. The statues are gone and the focus has changed to the wine. Their wines are excellent and their staff is friendly & helpful. Their reds are mostly blends which have been aged over a year in french oak. They are pouring wines that are very drinkable now; not recently bottled as is the case at most wineries. We enjoyed a relaxing wine tasting and knowledgeable personnel. They are also dog friendly. They do charge for tasting.

By Philip M |

We were lucky enough to do a tour with Scott. He gave us a wonderful morning! He has a deep knowledge of wine and art that he wears lightly. I highly recommend asking for Scott if you visit.

By poem19girl |

The wines were excellent, the people helpful and friendly, and the grounds were lovely. We got there early on a Sunday morning and it wasn't crowded at that time. It is near Chateau Montelena and Sterling, so it is a good location if you are planning to go to either of the other two better-known wineries.

Beautiful property! Wonderful experience and our tour guide was so kind and helpful. Definitely recommend this tour and tasting.

By Gail82015 |

We tasted a selection of 4 Cabernet Sauvignon wines and a Cabernet Franc. The wines were great and it was fun to taste the differences in the wines from adjacent blocks in the vineyard. The setting at the Clos Pegase Winery is beautiful and the architecture unique. Our host Susan expertly explained the history of the winery, the Clos Pegase wine portfolio and helped us learn more about Napa region. We really enjoyed the opportunity to taste a number of wines and to buy wine for our cellar. A lovely afternoon and highly recommend a visit!

By MsSmart64 |

One of our best wine tasting experiences! Vincent was a fabulous host! He listened to our likes and helped us accordingly. Fabulous wines and service!

By Kimberly S |

They didn't seem to have our group reservation down (16 people) and didn't seem to want to be bothered. We left.

By Robin U |

We went on a Monday June 21. Not busy at all. The space was lovely, small fountain in the front, wide open outdoor seating. High ceilings inside. Our hostess was a very nice woman from Australia, very upbeat and knowledgable about the wines. The bubbly-rose was wonderful. Took home a Chardonnay and Zinfandel. Lovely experience overall.

By SJWilliams |

I am relatively new to the wine scene and wanted to take a tour that gave a little insight to the winemaking process rather than just a tasting. This place was wonderful. The setting and grounds were beautiful (building designed by Michaels Graves). Our guide (Heather) did a terrific job of keeping two separate groups of people with wildly different knowledge levels completely engaged. The tour included some time looking at the vines as well as the production area and caves. We did a tasting with food parings in the cave in a stunning room dimly lit with a red glow - absolutely gorgeous. The wine was wonderful (generous pours) as was the food. It was a really enjoyable experience. I joined the wine club - and enjoyed having some different wines to share over the holidays.

By KevinSchwartz |

I've always heard about the art at Clos Pegase but visiting and enjoying the art while touring the property and trying the amazing Clos Pegase wines was unbelievable. We had a bottle of Cab decanted and poured back into the bottle so we could enjoy it after we left and stopped at Taylor's Refresher - definitely recommend thinking ahead like that!
The art work is varied and allows for lots of great photo ops in and out of the winery itself.
The wines speak for themselves and any wine aficionado should have some of these wines in their cellar. Age worthy with a long history in Napa. Buy enough to drink now but also to keep some in the cellar for a few years, especially the Hommage.

By lagfh |

Awesome setting. Excellent wines. I especially love the Hommage. Very knowledgeable and friendly wine stewards. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting and visit.

By lorit5 |

very pretty vineyard. lovely tasting room. young gal who helped was fun to visit with and hear share traveling experiences. good wine...

By joseph d |

Ok place. Architecture was interesting and the wood barrel room preserved some history. Wines were average.

By Joe H |

We booked a cave tour at Clos Pegase. We are wine club members so we knew we would enjoy the wines, The caves go hundreds of feet into the hill behind the tasting room/winery. This is a very worthwhile tour of an impressive facility. the tasting is done in a room at the rear of the caves and includes cheeses and meats.

By CARIBBEAN757 |

This was a stop in visit as we didn't have a reservation. The grounds and winery are lovely. The guy who did our tasting was a ton of fun and very informative. The tastings can be inside or out. We sat on the back patio and the wines were very week done and reasonably priced. We totally enjoyed our visit.

By rwalkerusa |

My wife & I went to Clos Pegase on our 1st date 16 years ago. We celebrated her birthday in the wine cave 2 years ago. We've always loved this vineyard. We went there last week, and tasted 6 different wines. We were blown away! Wonderful. We ended up buying 5 out of 6 of them, and then a bunch of other older ones not normally on the lists. Their wines have continued to improve over the years - just wonderful. Moderately priced in the $25-80/bottle range, generally, but better than a lot of $100+ bottles at more "name brand" wineries. Love it. And just beautiful grounds and location. One of the best places in all of Napa!!!!

By Bill S |

We had an amazing wine tasting experience! Arveen’s descriptions of the various wines helped us the enjoy and learn while tasting.

By Debs |

We needed to find another winery to try in Calistoga, so we booked this one. Pleasant surprise. We had a cave tasting with a wonderful host, and loved all the delicious wines. The building is amazing, and the grounds awesome. You will not be disappointed!

By Kevin H |

Owner Jan Schrem has really gone all out to share his love or art and good wine with the public. From great statues in the gardens to fine art on the walls, Clos Pegase hits near the top and you don't need to be in a special club to enjoy it. I've been coming here since 1988 and it's one place I never get tired of.

By Glenda R |

We came her 9 years ago on our honeymoon and loved the art and the winery. At that time our state was not included in the wine club. We were so excited to go back and take more pictures and be able to join the wine club this time since our state allows wine clubs now. So disappointed to fine the owner who they explained is 85 years old had donated his 135million dollar art collection to UC Davis. Great for them.. sad for us. BUT we did get a wonderful tasting and this time got to join the wine club.

By Debra6-2016 |

This was our second trip to Clos Pegase. As members of the wine club we enjoy each shipment and look forward to its receipt in anticipation. The tour and cave experience tasting is a must for all first visits.

By Ivan R |

Visited as part of Napa valley wine trolley tour. Had private tour and tasting( which we had to pay on top of tour price). To be honest I feel just another winery that has had millions spent on it, expensive tasting $20 for 4 wines. $55 Cabernet was best and only one I would buy but you have to buy 2 bottles to get tasting fee back, so did not bother.

By richp702654 |

We have visited before and are now wine club members(again). Magnificent grounds, friendly servers in a sit down relaxed environment. We went during the week and it wasn't busy. Every wine we tasted was excellent. We even had a couple extra pours of wine we had expressed an interest in. We had a 2 for 1 tasting with the Sonoma Pass, but when joining the club that was returned. Overall a very memorable experience that we will enjoy throughout the year with our wine shipments.

By SPIguy |

What a wonderful first experience at a vineyard. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and very knowledgeable.

I've had poor experiences in the past trying various red wines and was surprised with what was offered. My view on the red wines have changed quite a bit after this experience.

By DianaLynne11 |

I knew about Clos Pegase for years yet have never visited. So glad we finally did. The service was unbeatable, pleasant surprise! Doug was our guy on Sunday and he was most awesome. We enjoyed the wines and joined the wine club!
Looking forward to our next visit .... :)
Cheers!

By Alison F |

Excellent wines! Beautiful vineyard with interesting architecture. We were the only ones there on a midweek afternoon. Our server was very friendly and let my husband and I share our tasting. We sampled the reserve collection and were not disappointed.

By ManchesterAlbion |

We were really well looked after here. The quality of wines was superb at a fraction of the price of some of the more famous names. Generous tasting measures and shared tastings allowed here. Also a beautifully designed space, well worth visiting from a design point of view too.

By farm2fork |

This was our first stop and the absolute worst! Our host was a young lady with little tact. She was somewhat talkative and when we asked questions answered in an almost demeaning way. I honestly can't remember the wines because we were so ready to leave. We won't return to this property on our next visit.

By livforever52 |

We stopped at this winery because we wanted to see the art. We printed off the self tour from the website and walked the grounds. There are some very interesting pieces.

We went inside for a tasting and were pleasantly surprised. Good wine, but really enjoyed our server. Other reviews may have called this man "rude", but I found his frankness refreshing. He really knew a lot about the wine, the grounds, the area and answered all of our questions very candidly.

There is a tour, we didn't go on it. The tour is more about the grounds than the art. There is a tour at 11:30 and 2:00.

By Mary M |

Wess was a wonderful ambassador for the winery. We really enjoyed the wines and the history of the winery and vineyards, so much we joined the club.

By Kathy R |

Once again, our group enjoyed tasting at Clos Pegase. We were welcomed with the familiar faces of the hosts and a comfortable place and expansive setting to enjoy their wines. The wines are delicious and served by such knowledgeable hosts. We have been members for over 25 years and enjoy visiting with our family, friends and pups.

By Elena V |

Beautiful setting, delicious wines, and excellent hospitality. We spent a delightful afternoon and are looking forward to returning.

By Brian M |

Great wine tasting a property. Excellent host! One of our favorite vineyards we visited. Highly recommended!

By Amanda D |

My husband and I popped into Clos Pegase as we were driving by for a walk in tasting. Our experience with Scott was nothing short of exceptional! Having been to plenty of appointment tastings and tours as well as walk in/tasting room experiences this one went above and beyond.

Scott’s knowledge of the wine along with his knowledge of the Napa Valley in general was amazing! He shared with us wonderful recommendations for lunch, dinner, and other winery experiences. He was genuine and welcoming and his passion for all things Napa Valley was apparent. We look forward to our next trip to Napa Valley to see Scott and use his recommendations!

By jkeating86 |

We took a trip to Calistoga for the weekend and had the pleasure of doing a tasting with Steve. He was fun, personable, and helpful, and we walked away with a great bottle of wine. Would definitely come back!

By Parnelli1947 |

As members, we reserved the cave tasting. While sipping on rose' and sauv blanc, we briefly toured the grounds, heard a brief history of the property and winery, and then headed to the caves for a food and wine pairing. The pairings were spot on and the wines excellent. Issac was a great host ... very friendly and professional. A wonderful experience!

By Dulce Reckmeyer-Walton |

This was our first time at Clos Pegase and definitely not the last! Our host Steven was super friendly and knowledgeable, he made our visit a fun one. The wine selection for the Estate was very well balanced. We look forward our next visit!

By Deanna |

I have been a wine club member here for a few years and it is by far the best value in the valley. I brought a few friends her and both ended up joining after out cave tasting. Diane is a wonderful host and the experience is always great. Looking forward to next time.

By Bp. Martin de Porres |

Nice winery with friendly staff. The tasting area is comfortable (both outside and inside tasting areas). Walnut trees in outside tasting area. Also great tour of the cave.

By C L |

Clos Pegase is a gorgeous winery to visit. Once you arrive you'll be surrounded by the beauty of Napa and incredible art from around the world. Adding to the spectacular experience is a tour of the fantastic wine caves, complete with special cut-outs in the caves for art pieces (usually featuring Greek mythology). Available for conferences or dinner parties, the caves are a fantastic place to consider. Your sure to bring real magic to any evening surrounded by volcanic caves, candles, mythical stone carving and completed by the smell of wine in barrels. Fantastic.

By Ted P |

First and foremost, wonderful wines. The host and setting cannot be beat. Be sure and tour the wine caves. This winery should definitely not be missed!

By Mathew S |

Diane was amazing and so accommodating to myself and my family! Thank you for providing such an amazing experience! Lots of wonderful picture taking as well!!

By GrantW |

We visited this winery on our first day in Napa Valley after finding a BOGO promotion online. We are glad we did! Our tasting guide was Diana and she was fabulous -- very informed and friendly! The setting is very peaceful and the outdoor tasting area is surrounded by beautiful grapevines (and beautiful blue skies overhead during our visit). Our favorite wine here was the sauvignon blanc and we purchased a few bottles to take home to friends. We also enjoyed the pinot noir and bought a bottle of that, too. This winery is fairly far north (in Calistoga) from central Napa, but worth the drive!

By calsun99 |

Had a tasting here. The wines, like most in Calistoga are expensive. A little less pricey here than in most. Very pleasant fruity Rose, some good Cabs and very good service. Tasting is $30!, but there are two for one coupons at the visitors bureau in town.

By Angie H |

This was one of the winery stops on your small group wine tour, the 4 wines a we sampled were very good and the host was very knowledgeable.

By stevens397 |

Trips to Napa can be overwhelming. So many wineries to choose from and they can all seem the same after awhile. Our visit to Clos Pegase this morning was truly exceptional and we could not recommend it more highly. Every single part of the visit, from the grounds and the Michael Graves designed building to the amazing sculptures that fill the grounds and the building, to the tour and, finally of course, to the wines, it was an experience like no other. We were fortunate to have the private tour to ourselves and our host, Brian, could not have been more helpful, more knowledgable and more delightful. Clos Pegase is an experience like no other and I could not recommend it more highly.

By erocha0611 |

Great wines and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly! Love coming to this place whenever I am in the Napa area.

By Mark |

The new tasting lounge with outdoor area is a pleasant way to spend an hour on a warm and sunny day. Wes, our enthusiastic Host, was most personable. He spent the time to educate guests on the quality wines, glorious history and important agriculture of the surrounding region.

By Wini M |

Wine - pretty good, Tasting Experience - left a lot to be desired.

We were gifted a certificate for a free tasting for 2 as part of a related wine club. When making the reservation, we were prompted to give information about wines we like. The tasting menu was set, so that seemed to be a waste of time (for example, we were given Chardonnay while it is not a wine listed as one we like).

The greeter was awesome. He took us to the tasting room where we sat waiting for service for some time. One man came by a couple times to see if we had been helped then finally said he would do it himself, but then the one server did come. He did not offer any information about the wine unless asked. He also forgot to give us one of the four wines included in the tasting. I sought him out to tell him this when our hour was up and he had never returned to our table. He was hanging out in another room with a large party. Not pouring, but laughing, talking, and listening. He ignored me. Finally, I found the other man and he gave us the forgotten tasting and talked about how 2 twenty-something servers had called in sick, and tended to do this on the weekends. He thought they were hanging out with their girlfriends.

In the time we were there, other tables seemed to get service so I suspect either our appearance or the fact that we had a certificate for a free tasting impacted our experience. It also struck me as odd that every person that we saw working there and the two missing servers were all males.

By sccrref |

Granted it's been maybe 15 years since our last visit but a lot has changed. Sculptures and art gone. Apparently new ownership. That would all have been fine except the service we got was underwhelming and we waited way to long in between tastes. Very perfunctory. Nothing that made us want to buy their wines. It's still a nice setting and clearly others like the place. Maybe if we hadnt had such an amazing time the first couple times we visited in the 2000's we might have felt differently

By msosensky |

We had an amazing experience at Clos Pegase with Scott Salvatierra as our host! He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and fun to spend the afternoon with! Not to mention, the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Thank you to Scott and team for an unforgettable day!

By RomanNole |

The Clos Pegase winery is one to remember. From the moment you step on the grounds, you are surrounded by art. Some of it is whimsical - like the giant thumb sculpure - and some of it is more serious. Be sure to look for the fountain taken from a 14th century Italian villa the features Bacchus. If you don't want a guided tour, be sure to get the booklet that allows you to self guide through the property and explains the different pieces of art you will see.

The tasting options are nice. Personally we liked the Sauv Blanc the best, but they were all nice. We had a very friendly guide working us through the different wines, which makes all the difference in the world.

By SAMDtraveler |

We joined this wine club several years ago because we met and liked the owner Jan Schrem. We never visited until this year. The buildings are the product of an architectural challenge and are worth the trip alone, especially the wine caves. Art lovers will appreciate the numerous masterpieces. Be sure to look at the collection of wine labels and the corresponding art work. We liked their wines from our wine club selection, and we're surprised by the mediocre reviews. One of the locals told us Clos Pegase suffers because their wine is so reasonably priced, and some aficionados judge on price alone. Hint- buy wine, have it packed in a shipping box and check it as baggage, especially if you fly Southwest. It's what the locals do and it saves a bundle

By rolsar |

This was our final Winery stop of the Napa region. Very beautiful grounds and was well kept. We got to taste 4 wines in their private room while we heard history of the Winery. Wine was decent. At the end of the tasting they brought out a special port and Chardonnay dessert wine which was delicious.

By DianaBWakeForest |

Made an appointment for the 3 of us ahead of time. Hostess was friendly and knowledgeable. We sat outside right by the vines. Unfortunately, their outdoor chairs are extremely uncomfortable. It felt like we were laying back in a recliner and they were hard to get out of. I chose to stand for part of the tasting because it was a better option than that ratty plastic chair. They make a nice variety of wine. I thought the red wines were very good. From other reviews, it sounds like the indoor experience is not as pleasant. We had a very enjoyable, relaxing tasting.

By JMKMEMSM |

We enjoyed our tasting on the outdoor patio with Diane - she was fun and knowledgeable about all of the wines. The winery is beautiful with large grounds and nice views of the vineyards. Highly recommend adding to your list of wineries to visit.

By brendarn86 |

This tasting space is small, with two long tables. Unfortunately, one of the tables was filled with a large party who were clearly over drinking. We could not hear the server tell us about the wines they were pouring. The servers were even complaining to us about how these people were too loud, but did not do anything about it. It completely diminished any enjoyability from the tasting. At one point, we had to go hunt down our server because he disappeared. The two whites were good, but I dumped all 3 reds because 1, they were not to my taste, but 2, I also was just so disappointed in the atmosphere. We decided to leave when water bottles started flying across the room. I would have walked out before we even started, but because we had to reserve and pay beforehand, this was not an option. Now that they are all charging $50 for a taste, I do expect better than a bar atmosphere.

Located just south of Calistoga, Clos Pegase is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. In 1984, 96 architects submitted design proposals for the new winery. Michael Graves, architect for the iconic Denver Public Library and Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts in Orlando, described his winning design as having “timeless sensibility.” The name of the winery comes from the founders’ fascination with Greek mythology (according to legend, a stroke from the hooves of the winged horse Pegasus – the winery’s logo -- unleashed the sacred spring of the Muses, giving birth to both art and wine); “clos” means “enclosed courtyard.” Clos Pegase offers two tasting options: an “Estate Flight” of 5 wines for $30/person or a “Connoisseur Cave Tour & Tasting for $60/person. The better value is the latter; it ends in the Cave Theater where your tasting includes an ample and delicious charcuterie platter. The bleu cheese on this platter was absolutely to die for; it is mild, creamy and embedded with salt crystals. Tip: Reservations can be made online and shipping is only a penny/case!

By Karen T |

Our server was exceptional. She provided so much information and answered all of our questions. Her pours were especially generous and we even got to taste a few additional wines. Delicious.

By Jan S |

We have had nothing but wonderful experiences at Clos Pegase over the years. The staff is always friendly and informative. We love their wines. The outdoor environment is quite amazing especially in the fall when the trees are turning color.

By sippervixx |

We stopped by here on our way to Chateau Montelena, and we had a spectacular tasting at the bar. We tasted 5-6 wines with a few revisits and had a very good lesson about some of their wines. We loved their Rose, and a few Cabs. We really enjoyed it.

By adamtravels_1969 |

Our visit on a rainy December afternoon was forgettable. We arrived at 4:30, and the server appeared more interested in quitting time than serving us. The wine may have been good, but without any explanation of the wine and with a somewhat awkward tasting experience, we would not recommend.

By richp702654 |

Beautiful location and winery with relaxed atomsphere. The reservation process makes it very nice with smaller groups, and unhurried pace for your tasting. Regular tasting can be inside or outside. The cave tasting is free to wine club members, and quite frankly, is a great experience to see the entire operation, and enjoy the wines and nosh in the dimly lit wine caves. One of a kind experience.

By danielgX3382KR |

This wasn't the best winery for a first time wine tasting experience. Took my stepson for his first wine tasting experience. It wasn't the best because of the price and the attitude of the staff. The wines were good but a bit pricey for my taste. Perhaps better for people with better palates and bigger wallets. Not a big fan of the architecture.

I bought the picnic lunch for two for my son and his new wife as a valentine's gift. Here is what he said....
- "I like the privacy of our picnic blanket and the food was on point!
- And it was all really easy! Staff was friendly and helpful."

By mebramson |

After hearing about the amazing wine and the excellent art exhibit, we finally made a stop at the Clos Pegase tasting room near Calistoga. The grounds are fairly large and the walk through the first set of buildings was nicely landscaped. It is described on their website as "awe inspiring" and, indeed, it is an architectural marvel. Inside it is sort of like a museum, an empty one because there was no artwork to be found. There were two servers on staff that day and neither seemed too interested that we were there, but the one who did assist us explained that the artwork had all been donated to a college in CA. We proceeded to do a standard tasting, but again, the servers were lackluster and made no effort to discuss what was special or unique about the wines or discuss tour times or the caves or anything else about Clos Pegase. I assume that one already has to be an "insider" to get better than so-so treatment. I am sure they have good wines, maybe earning accolades at some point, but I would not make it a point to seek it out or join a club. Believe it or not, I bought one bottle of their 2011 red blend to take home because it was the best of what we were offered that day.

By Jolene912 |

This wine is phenomenal. The winery is in the Vintage Wine Estates Family, which are all excellent, but treat yourself by visiting this boutique vineyard. I am looking forward to going back for a romantic cave tasting!

By Darcy M |

The winery has great atmosphere and the wine was the best that we tasted that day. Will be taking a membership and coming back here for sure!

By Shibumi365 |

The staff was friendly enough, the wines were ok; but the premises were a bit sterile. The tasting room was cavernous and cold. Everything felt empty and awkward for some reason.

By Bigkell55 |

Good wine and a good atmosphere. very clean and definitely upscale compared to some wineries nearby. Would visit again

By Julia W |

Clos Pegase offers the key aspects of what I would consider to be a fantastic tasting. The tour is truly a gem and they do a great job of winemaking fun facts/education and also providing just the right level of insight into their art pieces on the grounds. All who work here are casual yet professional. The wine is a treat. If the tasting room gets busy it starts to lose some appeal so choose off times if possible. NV can begin to have a Disneyland drag with overhyped wineries, crowds and corporate ambiance. Close Pegase is an antidote> if you've ever visited their puzzlingly famed neighbor across the street, you know.

By Wendy |

I would skip Sterling and definitely go to Clos Pegase across the street, the wine was great and they sell little chocolates with wine inside, yummmm. The art work is also very interesting and scattered throughout the grounds. And again... did i mention the wine is fantastic and the owners have a great story.

By kalamakid |

Met with Gerda and learned so much about the history and vineyards of Clos Egas. Enjoyed an in depth tour, watched some bottling and wound up in the beautiful cave space to taste. Very generous with her time a great wine experience. Wonderful wines.

By Jason R |

The post-modern architecture forms your first impression. The sculptures, some dating to 17th century, deepen the impression. Hearing the love story of Jan and Matsuko sets you up for the wines. Tasting them in the underground ballroom by candlelight makes the experience memorable.

By travelwithpam |

Friends & I stopped by there yesterday. I had not been there for awhile. Our group did a great tasting of their wines. I had not been into the tasting room before as in the past the tasting room was in the main building out back. Make sure to take a look at the main building as well. Beautiful grounds & architecture.

By Robert M |

Our wine tasting was one white wine (no charge for the tasting). No tour. Only one person visible. And we called ahead and made a reservation!

Did we arrive on the wrong day? We spent a total of perhaps 10 minutes...maybe less at this winery.

By the way, we bought the wine and it was pretty decent.

By groupleader45212 |

Pretty winery with average wines. Nice tasting room but nothing special in terms of quality wines. Attentive staff

By mini |

We went to Clos Pegase Winery in Calistoga. The architecture of the winery is intriguing. The grounds are also so pretty. We enjoyed our wine tasting.

By Patty W |

We loved this winery. The tasting was delicious and our host very informative. My sister liked their wines so much she joined their club. The building is very modern and has won awards. This has a 2 for 1 with the priority wi e pass. Because my sister joined the club, the tasting was free.

Clos Pegase is in the heart of beautiful Napa Valley and provides a wonderful wine tasting experience. The setting and architecture are unique and gorgeous. We made an appointment several days in advance and were promptly greeted and seated when we arrived. Isaac took excellent care of us, offering a full tour of the palate complete with highly detailed descriptions of their many excellent, top tier wines. The tasting room is very cozy with a pleasant buzz of happy tasters and everyone was super friendly and nice. Gold star for the entire experience. We will be going back next time we are nearby.

Clos Pegase is a great place to visit. The staff is so friendly. The wine is very good. I was disappointed that the port was not available when I visited however I enjoyed tasting the 2013 Late Harvest Chardonnay.

By Carlita P |

I heard about Clos Pegase through the Winter in the Wineries Passport program. I was really excited to have a tasting here as the reviews were really good and all of the photos looked amazing.

I was slightly disappointed when I arrived and was told that passport program only included 2 dessert wines, most of the others were 5 wines - 2 reds, 2 whites and a dessert wine. The wines, were good, were really, really sweet. Almost too sweet.

The customer service was good, I love all of the personal attention that I received. That is a benefit of going to the wineries in the winter vs. any other time of year.

Such a lovely ambiance. Calming, zen, and of course delicious wine. Had a perfect spot in the shade on the patio. The individual executing our tasting was knowledgeable and kind. All in all great vibes

By Powerful_Katrinka |

We showed up with our own picnic, while they normally don't allow outside food as they have their own catered offerings, it was a "slow Tuesday afternoon" and we were allowed to enjoy the food we brought. We selected a bottle of Origami (a red) and purchased 3 souvenir wine glasses. Lunch under an oak near the bubbling fountain was perfect. My friends visiting from Germany were delighted with the wine (they bought some to bring back home) and the venue, which was undergoing some landscaping changes to be more drought tolerant.

My adult family group of 10 took a private tour and tasting recently. The site is lovely--Michael Graves architecture, and beautiful vineyards and grounds. Our tour guide was personable, friendly and knowledgeable without being overbearing or a wine snob. We finished with a tasting flight of four premium wines and small bites paired with the wines, which was a very nice touch and revealed some interesting flavors. We upgraded to the premium wines, which made it a bit pricier, but we enjoyed the experience. We took advantage of discounted purchases, as with most winery tours. The tour and tasting lasted about an hour and a half; it was a chilly day, so we probably hurried a bit. Definitely recommended.

This winery is not attractive from the outside. I have been coming to Napa regularly for ten years, and this was the first time I ventured past the offputting exterior of Clos Pegase. However, this is one of those times to not judge the book by its cover. The tasting room and inner courtyard are really nice, and the service is amazing. I completely enjoyed the wine, the experience, and the amazing staff, and would definately return.

We had a lovely time. Diane the woman who helped us was very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this winery

There is no doubt that Clos Pegas is a beautiful winery. The art and architecture are breathtaking. We did a cave tour and were blown away. There were six of us and this was by far the best tour/tasting we had in the Valley.
My wife and I are members and have been since 2007 we always love coming to the winery when we visit the area. The wine is outstanding and the people are terrific.
Diane was our guide and she was perfect. She read the group well and was full of fun and great knowledge. The food paring was spot on and the setting in the cave will be etched in our minds for ever! Two of our friends joined the club and the other two ordered 4 bottles - and they are not easily swayed into doing something like that unless it's great. And Clos Pegas is great. Thank you Diane and the entire team for making our trip even better.

We went to Clos Pagase Winery towards the end of July and I loved the fact that eventhough we did not had a reservation they were able to accomodate us . The service was wonderful and the wines were amazing!. Iwould recommend this winery to all my friends and family. Go check them out!

My sister and I came to visit for our first trip in Napa, and we loved every minute of Clos Pegase. We had a private tour with Heather, and she was great. She was very knowledgeable and overall one of our favorite tours this trip. We can't wait to come back, thank you Heather!!

This winery has a stunning tasting room. Small and intimate and quiet. Isaac, our own personal sommelier, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. The tasting menu was very varied and we were able to enjoy 5 wines. We liked the fact that the tasting fee was waived if you purchased, which was not difficult, ad the wines we tried were delicious!

Beautiful palazzo feel, loved the barrel room. enjoyed the wines and Scott's knowledge was fantastic!

Excellent wines. Beautiful property and facilities. Great staff. This place captures what a day of wine tasting in the Napa Valley is all about.

Like most of us we do not go to Napa to see the grounds or the building - it is about the wine. I think Clos Pegase has gotten away from wine and moved into better homes and gardens. No lie - the pproperty is awesome. But when their signature wine (Chardonay) is not availible for tasting you wonder why you came? Overall some great people and property but very average wine.

We enjoyed our time at Clos Pegase. The wime was delicious and the server was very informative and polite. Beautiful grounds and a nice tasting room and outdoor seating area made the experience very nice.

I wanted to see how wine was stored in caves and also wanted to see the caves and this winery was the perfect place to go. We went on a Sunday for the 11:30 tour and as it turned out we were the only ones to go on the tour so it was like having a private tour. We also got to try some of their wines which was very very good. The artwork on the grounds was also unusual and fun. I loved the history of winery.

I've done a couple of wine tasting experience, but this one is the best i've ever got. Thanks to Isaac, he was committed to make our experience extraordinary by sharing his knowledge and passion

Everything! If you are headed to Napa. Calastoga or St Helena, you must check out Clos Pegase Winery. From start to finish the experience was perfect. A huge shout out goes to Wes who was extremely knowledgeable and professional. The tour was awesome and the food pairing in the barrel cave was simply a memorable moment. We visited 8 vineyards in a three day span and by far this establishment was our favorite. A Must visit!

Tour started out in tasting room followed by a walk to gardens with history of original owners. Got some education on grapes and harvesting after which we were lead to where they were harvesting grapes and eventually to caves. The cave was very nice; candles lit our walkway to the end where tables were set up with some wine and food pairings. Overall it was a very nice experience and would recommend it.

Clos Pegase Winery costumer service is mind blowing. We arrived in Napa on Sunday with no reservations for wine testing...after calling several places ...we were so lucky to get a yes by Clos Pegase Winery. They were so welcoming and warm to us. The manager ( bold guy and the guy from Fiji ....I forgot their names... were attentive and they have the most outstanding costumer service. We will never forget our time in this winery.
Thank you Clos Pegase Winery Staff.

Warmly,
Jianbo & Jeymmy

The wines are incredible, the patio was intimate and quaint immediately adjacent to their vines. Our host, Heather, was the best! So very knowledgeable!

Our first wine tasting to start our trip off and ended up to be one of favorites. I made reservations far in advance on the website for the Connoisseur Cave Tour and Tasting. Clos Pegase located in Calistoga was a perfect stop on our way to Yountville where we were staying. Upon arrival, our tasting room hostess, Susan introduced herself and gave us a pour while waiting for another couple to join our tour. Our group was only 4 people which was very nice.

Susan was great, very informative during the time we had, talking about the history, architecture, grapes and production. The cave tour was wonderful all the while Susan was pouring tasting of their latest and greatest. We ended the tour in the cave room where we had a pairings of wine and food which we so good. Loved this whole experience!

Definitely worth a visit: loved the wine, hostess, tour and food pairing experience.

This is a little gem. It might not look like a winery from the street but once you get inside it is really cool. There is lots of seating inside and outside. They are a small boutique winery and also have cave tours.

Easily one of THE BEST vineyards I’ve been to. Beautiful views, but most importantly, DELICIOUS WINES that easily made my wife and I want to taste more! It was a no brainer to join as club members. 😁

We were so surprised with the unique architecture, and history to this winery. The tour was amazing and the tour guide made it really a unique Napa experience. The wine is high quality and fair prices. The grounds are amazing and you actually get to see them all .

Wes gave us an intimate, knowledgeable and fun cave tour of Clos Pegase. We enjoyed everything about this tour. The wine was delicious, the food pairing was perfect and the setting within the caves just made it truly special. Highly recommend!

Our guide was full of all sorts of wonderful details about the winery history, the archtecture, the viniculture and the production process. The site, in the north end of the Napa Valley, is beautiful. The details about the caves were facinating and getting to walk through them was really fun. And, of course, the wines are great. Particularly the flight tasting with food pairing which is well worth paying a bit more for.

Recently visited winery on a walk in bases. Entering the reception area, a female staff member who walked passed us with a weak hello and we were not encountered again. We walked about to see if we could find services, but to no avail and staff ignored our presence. We left and visited other wineries with full attention and purchased an array of bottles of wine. Will not return

As part of our Trolley Tour, we made a pit stop at Clos Pegase. We were taken to the caves for our tasting, it’s a bit chilling so do have a light sweater on hand in case you get cold. They had a very good selection of wines. Afterwards, we had lunch provided by The Girl & The Fig. I had the vegetarian sandwich and it was delicious (Portobello mushroom). The views of the vineyards were breathtaking!

Excellent wines and customer experience. Diane was very knowledgeable about the wines and the valley, She did an excellent job of walking us through our tasting

Had a great visit here. The wine was good - we ended up joining their club and will be looking forward to the delivery of our purchases!

The wine of Clos Pegasse is delightful. We went home with some Chardonnay, Hommage Cabernet and Pinot Noir. The grounds and artwork are spectacular. Take a tour of the caves and artwork and end with a nice tasting. You won't be disappointed.

Going into this place was kind of scary the looks is very Eerie almost like its a dead zone but it was a strange like for me. The wines here I actually enjoyed I don't Like Cabernet and I enjoyed this one. I also did enjoy there Merlot. We had the best Service ever From Amanda. She was a treat and very knowledgeable. Glad we had her helping us. Cant wait to go back.

Went for a wine tasting, and thankfully we were served by the entertaining and informative duo of Isaac and Steve. Would definitely visit again! Thanks for the laughter and the wine.

We loved the wine tour and cave experience! Met some fun people and enjoyed the wine . Wish I could remember our tour guides name .. he was terrific

We visited Clos Pegase on Tuesday afternoon and had an amazing experience thanks to our host, Scott Salvatierra! He was very knowledgeable about everything Clos Pegase and took the time to show us across all of the different parts of the winery. It was our 6th winery visit and will definitely be the most memorable!

Wonderful selection of wine, I’ve been a member for about 2 years now. The service is always great, big fan of Wes and you must see the cave tour. They have the best selection of red wines

Gorgeous facility. we stopped accross the street at Sterling and found 2000 people there, went over to the as beautiful Clos Pegase and found it empty. Good wines, knowledgeable staff. Shaded seating to enjoy a bottle.

Made a reservation the day before with no issues. Beautiful tasting room. The wines were very good, and we had a wide variety.

By Amy G |

prepaid more than $50 per person for red wine flight tasting for two people. waited 20 minutes after being seated to receive the flight of 4 wines, served all at once in small decanters on a board. only one glass per person provided, so we had to rinse them out between wines as we went. our host showed up to talk about the wine only once in the 45 minutes we were there, and was very scripted and unengaging. the wines were underwhelming, especially for the price point. there were three staff working the garden at 2:30 pm on a Thursday in March and they seemed harried. decor was lovely and the chairs were comfy, but the overall experience was one of being hustled through an assembly line experience and overcharged. We visited three wineries (Buena Vista, Clos Pegase, and Chateau Montelena) and I am sorry to say it, but Clos Pegase was the least enjoyable for quality of service, drinkability of wine, and overall value of the experience.

What a beautiful property with great wines! We walked the vineyard and tasted grapes from the vine. The amazing tunnel of caves lined with art statues sitting within walls of volcanic rock, and to end the visit with a sit down tasting of five additional wines and a cheese and meat plate..so memorable for us all- Thank you Scott Salvatierra for being such a great host!

Modern chic winery with beautiful tasting room. Troy was very knowledgeable. Wines are moderately priced compared to others. Tasting fee is $15 per person. Neat grounds to relax and drink wine.

By zeendil |

Start with the wines. Very good to Excellent. The facility is very manicured, but not warmly welcoming, and my group of eight agreed, had n almost prison-like look to it. The wines are top- flight and, I think, very expensive. I liked them, and I've had some vey good wine and hope for more. But I have had as good for much lower prices. Bottom line is that this is not a warm and welcoming experience. Not as contrived and laughable as, say, Daryoush, which has decent wines but overdoes the Persian influence, but not a place I would take guests whom I wanted to experience the "real" Napa Valley.
