Would have given this winery a 5 if we had been treated better when we arrived. But the people setting told us to wait in parking lot (cause we were 5 minutes early) and we waited but they opened 10 minutes late. We almost left as just didn't feel welcome but once we walked in and they noticed we had paid for a private tour they became nicer. Wayne Ryan was our guide and while the tour of the outside was limited he was extremely knowledgeable about the wine making process and the winery and we walked through the processing area. When we say down fur our tasting it was educational and the wines were lovely. We have always been fans but we bought a case and joined the wine club so guess we loved the wine, đ

very nice wine tasting with our knowledgeable host Jim. The line up of wines was high quality. Awesome Cab. Franc and Pinot Noir reserve. Also enjoyed the "92" Stags Leap Cabernet from their library collection.

Beautiful renovation.oh my goodness .Rachel was the best, super knowledgable so friendly. wines were fantastic. Canât wait to go back

We began our wine tasting here and were fortunate that it wasn't crowded when we arrived. Having selected the tasting of choice, our hostess began pouring . I erred and hadn't selected the tasting with Chardonnay but she poured one anyone since I'd asked about it. Loved it and bought a bottle along with another from the tasting menu. While this is a lesser known winery, it was fortunate to be our first stop. Beautiful setting and reasonable prices.

We were not intending to stop here on our bike trail but we were drawn in by the stunning buildings. With huge gables the front was amassed in ivy and looked stunning. We entered the tasting room through huge wooden doors and we were greeted by a very friendly young man who further enhanced our experience. He adapted the tasting to our needs and we enjoyed this vineyard experience the best of the day.

It's a nice winery to take a few photo's, but the wines and wine tasting is not a good value compared to others in the area.

Clos du Val was our final stop of the day on our first day of wine tasting. Located in southern Napa county just of the less traveled Silverado Trail. We chose Clos du Val because of their Reserve Red tasting ($25/pp) being more of red wine drinkers. The estate itself is lovely with beutiful grounds and outdoor seating. The tasting room itself is cramped and tiny. The L-shaped bar might allow for 4-5 couples to comfortably enjoy a tasting. To alleviate the bar area, they have placed a few wine barrels out on the floor. We arrived about 35 minutes before they closed to find the bar cramped with young, raucous adults. We took a spot at a wine barrel and it took quite awhile before someone greeted us. He explained that he wouldn't have time for a full tasting but could possibly pour us one or two complementary tastes which he did without fanfare or explanation. Even trying to engage the server in conversation was like pulling teeth. When the young crowd finally left (without making a single wine purchase) we were still made to feel like an inconvenience. We found the wine to be okay but outrageously overpriced. But I've come to learn that everyone's pallete is different (their pocket books not so much). As we left, the staff member who was dismanteling the outdoor seating area (would be lovely for a picnic) was more engaging than anyone in the tasting room. I don't know if we'd give it another try with so many other options available.

We had a 2-for-1 tasting and enjoyed the afternoon here. One of the best kept secrets is their Chardonnay Toffee.

Clos du Val stands out in offering a private cabana tasting to visitors â you can bring your food, the wines will be provided, and you make an hour-long picnic out of it. We managed to talk our hostess, who mostly left us to our own devices during the hour, into offering us a couple of extra tastings. For an afternoon change of pace, this can hardly be beat. The views from the cabana are good, not exceptional, but still a fantastic choice for a winery visit.

Clos du Val has a beautiful new tasting room at it's winery in the Stag's Leap district. We chose the Hirrondelle House Tasting which focuses on current releases. Lupita was our server and she was very friendly and professional with a very good knowledge of the winery and vineyards.
You're tasting fee is complimentary if spend at least as much on wine. A no brainer to buy a nice bottle.

We started our day in Napa with a table for two experience organised for a special occasion. This included a private table in the vineyards, roses on the table and a tasting of four different wines. The setting was beautiful. Unfortunately it was a bit windy, so the rose vase tipped knocking our wines over and covering our belongings in red wine. Fred was amazing and came to our rescue with paper towel and a wine removal spray. He went above and beyond to make the remainder of our experience great and was the nicest gentleman we met on our travels. We moved to a picnic table to continue the tastings. It was a hot day and Fred went and got us an umbrella to sit under. Wines were nice, winery is picturesque and peaceful and staff, especially Fred, are great. You won't be disappointed visiting Clos Du Val.

Best winery in Napa for a no frills, honest to goodness real french picnic. It is simply this: a winery. That is all. However, I note that I don't enjoy the wines as much as I used to.
Whatever the case, it is so close to so many places, and I am sure I will end up here time and time again with a baguette, brick of cheese, and $20 for a bottle of their Chardonnay.
It is inevitable, and inevitably is rare in this world. Four Stars surprisingly lovely vineyard. Well done!

My two girlfriends and I visited here as part of a private wine tour. We had reservations for a wine tasting, and were seated at a beautifully set table upon arrival. Our wine educator, Luis was spectacular. Very personable and friendly, knowledgable, and passionate about wine. The wine we tasted was fantastic and the space is absolutely gorgeous. We will be back!

We went with friends 4 of us in total to this vineyard. We had purchased a VIP tasting and tour from a charity event. Fred was our tour guide. He was a hoot and so informative. The property is beautiful. We got to see most of the property. We enjoyed our tasting and Fred taught us a few new tricks along the way. I recommend making this a stop. We were in the off season and had a reservation. It seemed pretty busy and maybe a good idea especially if you want a tour.

Excellent wine! I am a member there and relaxing in one of their cabanas while relaxing with a bottle of wine was very relaxing. It was February a and 80 degrees. All was right in the world. A great place to bring a picnic lunch or have a small party or gathering. The tasting room was very busy on that Sunday, but we received as much personal attention and service as humanly possible. The pours were generous as well.

I loved all the wines I tasted. Reasonable shipping costs and wine membership fees. The staff was great too. Educated, but entertaining too.

They are known for their Pinot Noir that comes from Carneros quite far to the south. They are in the heart of Stags Leap surrounded by their vineyards. They have a very nice picnic area both in the shade and out front in the sun. The newly redone tasting room is a big improvement.

My original impression of this winery was very good as service was very helpful. We ordered 2 bottles of wine July 7th and by the 19th I wondered what happened to my bottles. When I called and emailed I received a prompt reply although I found the answer lame - "all orders going to Texas have been delayed by an extra week due to weather conditions.". We have had hot temps like normal but no drought with fires in Houston - more rain than normal but I don't see how this delays a UPS shipment. Promised delvy 24th and now another day delay. What is interesting is tracking# was CREATED on the 16th and UPS states once shipment ARRIVES at the UPS Facility the staus including delivery will be updated. Sounds as if someone dropped the ball and did not take the bottles to UPS. I would rather have an honest answer given as to the delay rather than an excuse. Very disappointing and an adult signature is needed - wish I had given office address and not home - another mistake I feel the winery made by not informing customers.

We had a lovely time visiting the Clos du Val Winery. The drive in is enough to make you swoon as you are enveloped in the plush greenery around you. We had a reservation and were promptly escorted to our table for our tasting. We ended up buying a bottle of the Cab and got our tasting either comp'd or significantly discounted (can't remember may have been the Cab). Would highly recommend making a stop at this winery.

My husband and I went here with two other couples (friends). They set up our separate tasting table inside the barrel room. Rosie did an outstanding presentation. She's very knowledgeable and full of personality! We thought the wines were great, so much so, we joined their club. Loved all the extra things she showed us as well, like the wine luggage and coravin device. Front tasting room going through renovation, so don't judge from that.

We had a wine tasting here. The Wine is very good but a little different than other wineries. We did join their wine club. They do not do tours but it is worth your while

This was the second stop on our daylong Napa Valley Bike tour and we could not have felt more unwelcome. Even though our tour company had booked and reserved a tasting time for us, they appeared to be totally unprepared for our group of nine. After some confusion upon arrival, we were reluctantly ushered into the barrel room and told to stand at the small bar. We instead seated ourselves at a tasting table and waited for our tasting guide to join us. She was busy complaining to someone about having to "handle" our group and did her best to hurry us through the tasting. The vineyard made each of us purchase a tasting, even though not everyone wanted one. The wines were fine, but we felt pushed to finish and get out.

a great visit, very relaxed, excellent host, we were able to spend time with the president of the winery and tremendous wines

We have enjoyed Clos Du Val wines back at home for years and this was one of our "must sees" while in Napa. They did not disappoint. Their grounds are absolutely beautiful and the staff was super friendly. By chance, our visit was on the first day of harvest and the staff invited us to watch the first grapes of the season go into the press. The tasting was excellent. We discovered Clos Du val makes many more wines that we do not have access to at home so we joined the club. Cheers!

Great example of Napa - lovely wines in a beautiful cellar door. There's the option to book ahead and reserve an outdoor lounge for tasting.
Fred was great - he was also there last time we went two years ago. Great knowledge of the wines, and he pulled out an old bottle for us to try. Love this winery.

We went for the tour and tasting. the tour was similar to other winery tours. Our host, Fred, made the difference. he spent a lot of time in the vineyard explaining the growing process. then, the tour proceeded through the other steps of production, followed by the wine tasting. Fred really made this a special experience instead of an average experience. The wines are very good and you should consider stopping here even if you only do a tasting at the wine bar.

This was our second visit to Clos du Val. We love the delicious wines and the friendly service and care! Rosie was our hostess and we enjoyed her lively conversation! A must stop on the Silverado trail!

We're members at Clos Du Val and visit every other month. The grounds are beautiful and are available for rent by members and non-members alike (non-members pay a rental fee).
All wines are delicious, but their cabs are a special treat. The tasting room staff are so friendly and welcoming, not to mention knowledgable. Extra bonus is that their room is dog friendly with a water bowl right next to the front door.

Not a high standard service. The serve to many people! More hollywood than a serious winery. Great picknick area - but if you are into wine, you want more than just the usual!

My husband and I did the reserve tasting. We were two of six people for the private tasting of their reserve wines. After a bit of a slow start they introduced us to Nic who was pouring our tasting. He was fabulous - so pleasant and so knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend tasting here. Ask for Nic!

Really enjoyed this winery. Felt like we learned a lot about the style of the wine.
The staff is extremely helpful. A group of women asked one of the people at the winery if he could take some pictures of them. He obliged by taking as many as they wanted, with multiple cameras. Now that's above and beyond.
The wines, people and views are all great. I will be back.

If you are a Cabernet lover this should be on your list! We had a great tasting out on the patio area. The wine is fantastic!

The view is ok. The wines in the cheaper tasting menu are not so great. The experience was like "drink, next, drink, next...", not so much explanation or a place to hang out during the tasting. They do have a cute little picnic yard though.

Delicious wine and beautiful grounds but I found the service to be a little spotty. There were about 2 or 3 pourers to about 25 guests so we couldn't really ask any questions about the wine.

The wine is amazing and we learned about the different ways to trellis the vines. There is a great outdoor area that they encourage you to explore while enjoying your tasting or a picnic lunch

What a beautiful setting....nicely appointed winery with some of the best wines in the valley. Set on Silverrado trail this beautiful winery is a must stop when visiting Napa. Kristy Melton makes some of the best juice in Napa. Ask for a winery tour as it's as impressive as the wine. Enjoy!!

We joined the Club.... Gerta was great ! She taught us much about air and wine and how to make the work together... Nice wines at a very good price .

This is a nice place to visit at the start of the Stag's Leap district. The wines are ok but nothing spectacular. Good service.

We recently took a big group here and tasted wine and played Petanque. It is a beautiful winery and the staff is fantastic. The wines are excellent and well priced. Would recommend highly.

Smaller winery with awesome wines and easy to chat with servers. Outdoor tasting areas are beautiful. We always buy a few bottles from here. Beautiful packaging and great last minute gift items for friends back home.

Yes, this is true: absolute perfection. We arrived in the morning and decided not to go for the testing - it was too early. However, Clos du Val Cabernets and Merlots are some of our favorites, so I ordered a glass of their divine Merlot to start the day. Unexpectedly and despite the fact that we were not tasting wines, we had a wonderful wine guide, who told us about the wines, the owners, and the architects of their beautiful estate. The interior of the winery and the terrace is a shining example of the most exquisite modern architecture in graceful harmony with natural light and the vineyards. We are very grateful to our host for his detailed explanations and very personal approach to his customers. I am not even mentioning the vineyards themselves - stunning beyond description.

Clos du Val was a must stop for my wife's 50th birthday trip as we were here for my 50th a couple of years and we loved the wines and specifically the tasting with Rosie. We planned our private tasting with Rosie a few months back but when we got to the winery on Friday they advised us that Rosie no longer works there and we'd be tasting with Bill. Nothing against Bill, he was a gentleman and very professional, but we were bummed that Rosie left (she's now at Grgich Hills) so it just wasn't the same. Bill is definitely more reserved while Rosie was a burst of energy. Wines are still tasty, they have a new Cab called SVS that you can only get at the winery which was very tasty so I ordered a few. A lot of construction going on for their new tasting area which I'd like to go back and see once it's done. Nice grounds.

Enjoyed the visit and tasting! Tasted a good variety of quality wines. Knowledgable and professional Well known for its Cabs but impressed by the Chardonnay and Merlot as well. Good setting. Parking was close up to tasting room.

Delicious wines & beautiful setting...we got in without a reservation, much appreciated!
Victoria was very kind and hospitable

2008 Pinot Noir was amazing!
Beautiful grounds to look at. Tasting was only $15 (cheapest we had all day). If you buy two bottles, the tasting is free. Bottle prices are reasonable.
They have cute wine barrels set up to alleviate the crowding around the wine tasting counter - really cute and functional idea. Service was excellent - very down to earth!
Must visit winery in Napa Valley!

My husband and I came here Martin Luther King weekend with another couple and of the 7 wineries, this was our favorite. We ended up joining the Mirth wine club and are looking forward to our first wines coming in March. We worked with Rod who was the absolute best! He was so helpful and funny. My husband and his friend ended up buying hats, vests, and wine openers because Rod was so helpful with everything! My husband still swears by that wine opener, that it makes his bartending so much easier. This week we received the nicest hand written letter from Rod telling us how much he enjoyed our company and wishing us the best in the Chicago cold. I can not wait to come back and see not only him, but bring other friends out there too! Thank you! Thank you!

Good wine. Go for the library stuff in the 90's.
Young wine is good, though best to let it age.
We are members, we may stop it though because we don't get discounts on the library wine.
Outdoor area is fabulous!

This was my first stop during my napa trip. The best western gave us a two for one tasting voucher. Considering we had that, it was a great deal. Individually, had we paid without the voucher, it was $15 or $25 a tasting depending on the selection you chose.
Jim the hospitality and wine education associate was great. He was nice, helpful and taught us a lot. I wasn't a huge fan of the wines here. Again, I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to wine, but other wines have blown me away, while these were decent.
The grounds, like everything I've seen so far in napa are beautiful. You really can't go wrong on a nice day! We went on a weekday so it wasn't at all crowded. Jim noted that on nice days on the weekends the tasting room is packed wall to wall. So you may want to consider a weekday visit if you want some space and personal attention.
No complaints here!

The tasting room at the property was under construction when we visited for our tasting, but the proposed plans sound amazing. Don't let the rather dated wine labels fool you, the wine is very good and the staff is beyond courteous.

We had an industry tour of Clos du Val, and it is such a beautiful property. The winery has a lot of history - traced back to France, and it was so interesting to hear about it all. We tasted three reds and two whites, and our favorite (besides the reserve Cab, which we could never afford, lol) that we took home was a Carneros Pinot.
We had a beautiful picnic outside the winery after our tour and tasting (with lovely food from Dean and Deluca). We will definitely be back if we have the chance.

My first review of this place stands.
Good solid wine, great staff, but there are some visual aspects that have to be mentioned. They have recently ripped out the entire front vineyard and it is a huge dirt pit. Your entire beautiful view approaching and look out from the winery is horrid. This really detracts from sipping wine outside with stunning valley views or enjoying a picnic lunch. Personally the visual aspect of a winery is almost as important as the wine itself. Had to happen though grapes don't last for ever and have to be grubbed out every 25 years or so ....
They are putting it back together by spring but for the next 6 months or so plan on being in the tasting bar or turn your lawn chairs around and look at the loverly ivy wall.

After a day of tasting some of the best wines in the valley, Clos Du Val was just an "okay" experience. I could barely get through the tasting actually. It was small and crowded and wasn't a relaxing experience.

Stopped here during our wine tour. The pourer was knowledgeable. We got to taste grapes off the vine. We had a picnic lunch under the trees. The staff was friendly. THe vineyard was beautiful.

What a WOW experience! My husband and 2 kids were met with a young man holding a glass of white wine and handed it them. I was off handling a call and thought to myself " oh, he must think they have an appt"...we were walk ins.
As I was finishing up my call and inching my way to the door, that same young man ( Noah) hands ME a glass too. What a sweetie. I finished up my call and then went and sat down with the group and Noah say with us. He explained all about the winery, the owners, the wine and then 15 min into we finally ask how old he is.... he is a young pup... 22 ( almost 23) but he was wise beyond his years, charistmatic and educational.
The wine was wonderful, every last tasting was wonderful! He had us buying a few bottles. The remodeled place is wonderful!!! LOVE IT !!

This place is all about the gorgeous setting which makes it a great place to spend an hour or so tasting the wines or just having a drink. Unfortunately, the wines are rather ordinary and don't do justice to the setting.

Outstanding wine. Great tour. Not a glamorous facility, but if you can make it on a weekday, a private tour is yours for the having since it's not overly crowded. Our tour guide gave us samples from their 2000 cab reserve straight from the fermenting vat when we went that summer. It was out of this world. A real hidden gem in Napa.

Enjoyed the hand picked Cabernet grapes at the tasting, very good Cabernet. Able to accommodate party of 2 with no reservation.

This was my first stop. Friendly and attentive staff. They will let you bring in your well behaved dog, which is unusual for the area. Wines are good. Grounds are beautiful.

In the Stags Leap area of Napa Valley on the Silverado trail is this great winery. One of the first to recognize the potential of Stags Leap for Cabernet and Carneros for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Just pull in and step up for some relaxed discussion of the wine from Wayne. Former educator for LARGE wine companies he is relaxed and very knowledgable.
The wines are excellent and priced well for the world class quality they are.
A stop worth making!

Grounds and tasting room are very nice. The wines are quite good as well. We had a good time in the tasting room sampling their latest vintages and even took a bottle home with us. Very nice place.

I was surprised by the mediocre wine here. The friendly guy helping us kept letting us try extra wines that weren't listed on the tasting menu but nothing impressed us. We typically find and buy at least something at every winery we go to.
On the bright side the outside of the tasting room is beautiful but feels a little pretentious with the cabana style seating outside in the front. Feels to LA to me. The tasting room itself was also unimpressive for Napa standards. I likely would not come back here.

I made a reservation prior to going and the process for check in was so smooth. Itâs a very welcoming atmosphere and lucked out that it wasnât so busy since it was a Sunday afternoon. Wine was amazing, and Julia was so knowledgeable and such a pleasure to have as our tour guide. Definitely recommend this to be one of your stops!

The Clos Du Val Winery is conveniently located on the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley and always has good medium & higher priced red wines. We have visited this winery over the last 20+ years and have never been disappointed with the wine tasting experience and more importantly with any of the wines we brought home.

Very scenic place to visit and have some wine with it. We ended up trying the over 20 year old from 1994 cab I think it was and it felt special.

Clos du Val is one of the founding members of the Stags Leap district in Napa. It also has significant holdings in the Carneros region where they grow the Burgundian varietals. I first went to Clos du Val 30 years ago and was impressed with the finesse of Bernard Porter's wines. His training and generations of winemaking in France gave these truly American wines polish and a consistency. Tasting here again, it is still the same way. Even though Bernard has retired, his legacy lives on. The Chardonnays are not oak and butter monsters but nicely balance with some malolactic and oak but it does not overpower the fruit. The reds (especially the cabs are large structures suitable for a lot of aging. Here is what I tasted:
Chardonnay Reserve - 2012 - nicely balanced, 30% malolactic and combo of new and old French oak. Smoothed out and terrific finish.
Pinot Reserve - 2011 - powerful Carneros nose. A bit vegetal, strong on the palate, needs some age. 14 months on French oak
Cab Reserve - 2010 - 24 months in two stages on oak, seems a little light on the fruit, mild tannins, good finish but not great.
Cab Stags Leap - 2010 - great wine - big and bold. Will age well. Tannins not huge but will age well. Strong finish
Cab Franc -2011 - good but not great. Really tannic.

We enjoy this vineyard emensly. Have been club members for a number of years. Great service and atmosphere. Big reds full of flavor. This trip the new Merlots are excellent.

One of the oldest wineries in Napa - their wine is truly superb! We have been winery members for a very long time but they treat everyone like family! They have some of the oldest wines in Napa and their Cabernet is NOT to be missed!

The wine is really good, nice relaxed environment and ask for the special deal of taking bottles home when purchasing a tasting.

Our entire group was blown away by the service and tastings we experienced at Clos Du Val! One of our group purchased the wine membership and we can't wait to receive our wine and continue to enjoy the flavors!
I'm more of a white wine person and i really enjoyed their Chardonnay but mostly their staff made our experience fun and we ended up staying much longer than we did at any of the other vineyards. The cabanas were an excellent break from the sun and also provided a beautiful setting for some great family photos.
Would definitely revisit or recommend to any one! Special thanks to Devon!

Great wines, and a wonderful place to have lunch and enjoy a beautiful view! Rosie McGhee is awesome too!

We stopped in for a short wine tasting. Tastings are $40 here - fairly standard for Napa Valley but sticker shock anywhere else. The wines are French style. The tasting room is small but pleasant. There is an outdoor area as well. One section is reserved for Club members. The Chardonnay was good, not great. The Pinot Noir didn't wow me. The Cabernet blend was the best wine on offer and very good. There are so many choices in Napa Valley. The best feature here was the friendly wine pourer behind the counter.

Value not as great as what you receive for a $30 tasting at other wineries. Wine was pretty good though. Service was friendly.

Always luv a wine tour, very interesting, info on different grapes etc. worth a visit, and the tasting helps too

This was a nice winery but nothing to write home about. The wine was good and the staff was friendly. It was not at the top of our list as one of our favorites, but it was good.

My husband and I come to Napa four to five time a year , and decided to try this winery . We were greeted promptly and all the staff were so friendly . Glorious and gorgeous surroundings in and out . Sparrows all around and so peaceful ! Luis has our table ready for tasting even though we were early . He was so great ! Very knowledgeable and seems to really love his job! We ended up buying many bottles , and will be back . Absolutely one of our faves, and the winery is very high end with yummy reds !!!! Donât miss this spot !

We stopped by for a tasting and were the first to arrive in the morning. We were greeted by Fred who lead us on a guided tasting of some very nice cabernets. Fred was knowledgeable and very friendly. What a great stop!

My wife and I visited Clos du Val on a Friday morning. We had reservations and they set a little sign out with our name which was a nice touch. We don't drink white wine and they were kind enough to let us substitute the white for another red. Our host was excellent at telling the story of the winery and what makes them special. I was impressed and joined their club. They treated us very well and the Cabernet is the best!

We like Library vintage to be poured alongside the new releases and it's nice that they are able to do this for you. Prices are also reasonable and the team is very friendly and wise.

I have been to this winery multiple times. I'm a wine club member. Bottom line - good wines, not overpriced, not pretentious. They also throw one of the best release parties in August!!

We were lucky to have a driver from Napa Bee Driven that chose to take us here at the end of our day of touring around wineries in the Napa Valley. His wife Patti works there & she & the rest of the fabulous staff there, including Rosie, made us feel very welcome, we had a good laugh (which is always important!) & enjoyed some fabulous wines as well. Really a treat at the end of our day!

A relaxed, fun tasting room with a knowledgeable friendly staff. They offer a good selection of wines and don't overcharge for the tasting. While best known for their reds, their whites are excellent and deserve more attention than they get.

Nice facility but not great, we got there and was some Asian group with kids taking over big part and lot of other kids. But disappointing overall and would not recommend especially with hefty pricing, couple of wines are decent but again over priced as becoming norm in Napa, they have a good name and use it, no plans to go back.

This winery was a gem. read the past reviews.
But they are pumping up their image and pushing the 'were part of the great tasting ... bla bla bla' But what have you done since??? I ask you?? Re branding your self a luxury brand is not sitting well. Heres what wrong with my last visit with five friends.
1. They have discontinued a ton of their napa products. So value is gone
2. Appointments are required. Saw so many people be turned away mumbling terrible things in the parking lot.
3. Their Stags leap juice is not that good and expensive.
4. Staff are hard wired to push and push and push sales, wine club and that stupid Corivin. Our taster said they get a bonus for those sales.
5. Two kinds of tastings one in that old fun room. but now you stand wordless at the bar or go into the barrel room for a dark intimidating tasting
6. The staff that built this place the past few years have all quit or were fired.
7. The property is in shambles. Cabana's gone, picnic tables gone, bathroom still a disturbing mess. UGH!
8. Last pick up party was a joke. We went back in hopes the experience would be better but no ....
My girlfriend quit the club and we will find other places that want our money. It certinally won't be the cookie cutter, wine stations and lame history crap that Clos du Val, Stag's Leap, Caymus, and Phelps spout from their well trained car salesman staff.
Regusci is two doors up. I am going there

We got to Clos du Val on a Wed afternoon. The place was almost empty and we got some of the best service I've had in Napa. Very knowledgeable and personable staff, outstanding wines, the tasting is a bit pricey but if you take your time to experience it it is absolutely worth it.
We even got a treat, the day was about to end, so we got an extra taste, out of menu, of their absolutely outstanding 2013 Cab Sauv.
The place has a bit of construction going on, but its very clean and welcoming nonetheless.

we really liked this winery. the cabs are smooth and full of taste. and like most wineries, its right off the road. you have to really look for the places you want to go, because you can drive right by them easily if you're not paying attention. we had great conversation with the people who work there. its a big room when you walk in, but small if the room is full of people of course. there are barrels as tall tables you can stand at, or at the bar. you can see inside the room, where the wine is made. not sure if you have to schedule a tour, but you can just go in and have tastings w/o an appointment. great place to go.

We have been visiting wineries in both Paso Roble and Napa and had Clos Du Val on our itinerary because my wife liles their 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately, we did not make a reservation and arrived late on a Friday to find their tasting room to be very small and since they were expecting a party of ten which although running late they stated they could not accommodate any other parties. There was less than half a dozen other people in the tasting room. We would have like to have visited but because of the limited size of their tasting room we could not get in. Suggest you make a reservation if you want to go there but there are a lot of other better winery options in Napa in my opinion.

Clos Du Val has a beautiful facility with great outdoor seating. However, they do not let you use it. I also found the staff to be quite rude, one of the reps was starting to answer my question, but as soon as phone rang and he walked away to answer mid sentence, having finished the phone conversation he went on to have a couple of arguments with other staff members before returning to me 10 minutes later. Also during that time none of the other three pourers came over to check on us.

The wine wasn't for my liking or my husbands. It could be for someone else though. For us nothing stuck out but the man that helped service us he was very nice. Which he why I give it more stars and the grounds were very pretty!

I love this lovely design of the "Clos du Val", and majority of the client attracted to this winery are females I guess

This tasting was so awesome - maybe because first thing on a Monday in January, we were the only ones there. But, while we started with Aez who was phenomenal, the other two tasting hosts came over and joined in. They are passionate and love what they do. And love their wines.
That passion makes such a difference in the tasting experience.

The wines were good, but we prefer whites. Our friend enjoyed the wine and ordered a case. The place is very nice and you can enjoy just sitting outside.

I love Clos Du Val, so this had to be my first stop while in Napa for my first time! Happy to say, it will always be my first stop. It is at the beginning of Silverado Trail, conveniently located next to Chimney Rock and many other vineyards. It is breath taking! The staff is over the top friendly and fun. I am now a proud Clos Du Val member and can not wait to get back!

My favorite tasting experience while in Napa.
I've had Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon before and loved it, and had debated visiting the winery. That morning I had programmed the GPS to go to a different winery and at the spur of the moment pulled over and changed it to Clos du Val. What a good decision.
Jim handled my tasting. He is extremely knowledgeable about the Clos du Val wines and the Napa Valley region as a whole. There were two different tasting options and I chose the more expensive one, perhaps the reserve and limited release tasting? I did want to try the Petit Verdot from the other tasting as well and he said not to worry, he would take care of me.
What followed was a wonderful selection of wines, some with a lesson on decanting (I had to buy the decanter too!), one with chocolate and all in all just a great experience. I had no intention of signing up for the wine club, especially since this was a solo tasting, but I did sign up for Club Splendor and ordered six bottles to be shipped home.
Jim suggested I come back the next day with my husband and he would set him up with a great tasting as well and he'd hold off on submitting the order. My husband got out of his conference earlier than expected and we both headed back to Clos Du Val. Jim delivered on his promise and he had a great tasting as well.
I like Chardonnay and we both like big, bold red wines. We did end up ordering a case made up of the 2012 Petit Verdot, the 2014 Estate Block 5A Chardonnay, the 2014 Estate Block 73 Pinot Noir, the 1992 Stag Leaps District Cabernet, the 1996 Reserve Cabernet, the 2012 Stag Leap's District Cabernet, the 2014 Three Graces White, the 2011 Reserve Cabernet and the 2013 Napa Zinfandel.
I highly recommend a stop here and ask for Jim if you do.

I recommend this winery, the wine was very good, the information we received was informative, and staff, especially Rosie, was great.

a must stop for Stags leap area. The Cab's are bold and rich - some very good vintage wines available also. We joined their club so ships to us quarterly and always a good selection. One of the 6 must stop at wineries in Stags leap area.

I'm going to recommend this winery based on the tasting options they have to offer. We had a picnic (bring your own food) in the garden and it was very nice. I will say, since it was harvest time the machines were running and the garden area was very loud. But once the machines quit running, it was a very nice location for a picnic (and shaded.) They had cabanas in the front, view of the vineyard, for a price per hour. They had tables on the front lawn for a lawn tasting experience. You can also taste inside, but like many have mentioned, it is small and could get crowded. I would go back just to taste in the cabana area, it had a lovely view of the whole vineyard. The wine was not the favorite I tasted in the area, but ambiance in these wineries really add to the enjoyability of the experience.

Beautiful vineyard location and tasting room... Spoiled by the awful wines and the indifferent service. Keep driving past this one, no matter who told you to go there.

We enjoyed our tasting at Clos Du Val so much we bought 2 bottles of the Grace Valley cabernet. They waived one of the tasting fees b/c we purchased 2 bottles. Our pourer was very informative and we had a nice time chatting with her. We took a lot of pictures here b/c the views were very beautiful. If you are traveling the Silverado Trail I would recommmend stopping in for a tasting.

I went to this winery almost 18 years ago, and it has definitely expanded. It is a beautiful location, and the wine was great. Becky (I think that was her name) was fantastic and gave us lots of time and information. We bought a case of wine and had it shipped.
Of the three wineries that we visited, this was the most intimate, informative, and welcoming!

very accommodating great location great tastings and shared the reserve options without a fee.. For the money stop by here and you will love it!

We had a lovely and lively session with Rosie. She showed us everything, and explained everything in detail. What makes a cab? What are the five grapes in a Bordeaux? How long until we harvest this vine? Which is better? Real cork? Fake cork, screw top? And why? Why swirl? And more!!! We are family now and hopes her daughter comes to college near us! Take the friends tour, it was awesome.

One of the two best winery experiences we had while in Napa. if you visit, ask for Diego as your host, he is very knowledgeable, very friendly, and very relaxed and easy-going, he made our experience wonderful! The wines are phenomenal, from the Reds to the whites. There Cabernet Sauvignonâs and Cabernet Francâs are incredible! We are not Chardonnay drinkers, but bought two bottles because of how good theirs was! Beautiful setting, sleek and modern, go there you wonât be disappointed!

Our estate wine expert made our experience special. Bill was very knowledgable, enthusiastic and patient during our tasting; Highly recommended!! Will come back!

We visit Clos du Val on every visit to Napa. Excellent wines and a great staff. Highly recommend the outdoor cabana's to grab a snack while tasting. Tasting room is starting to get a little crowded though.

We'd driven up from Los Angeles, stopping off en route. Our visit to the winery was pre-booked. When we arrived we were immediately impressed by the tranquil environment, albeit an afternoon in the 90s. We expected to be part of a group seeing the vineyard and then doing some tasting. In the event we had an exclusive tour with Fred. Fred was exceptional in every way, totally charming and able to gauge the level of information we required. We left with a great understanding of the vineyard itself including the actual process.
I tasted about five wines including one that retailed at $120. I soon learnt that it was fine to not like all of them, but the process was relaxed and informative. I felt the amount of wine offered was appropriate to savour them.
We had booked as a couple, one of whom was designated driver. Because of this we were just charged for one person and a further discount was applied as we were unable to access some areas. I felt this was a very reasonable approach.
Outdoor seating by the tasting room was elegant and to the right of the building was a shaded picnic area with olive trees for shade. There was a small shop within the tasting room.
Overall this was an excellent visit and, if you get Fred, he's a real gem. Thank you.

This was our first stop, going up the Silverado on our first trip to Napa, and I must say, it was an awful way to start the day. Perhaps it was because we started at 2pm, and the staff was tired from the morning visitors, but it was most definietly the worst experience of the day. There were only a handful of visitors at the time my boyfriend and I went, yet the customer service was vague and not at all engaging - they seemed more interetsted in talking amongst themselves than with the customers.
They had the stingiest pours I've ever seen - less then a good sip's worth. And each pour was from a different staff member, who occasionally stopped by just to pour, not to talk, not to smile, not anything but ask which wine we we just had. I did like the Chardonnay, so despite it all, I opted to buy a bottle - which waved the tasting fee, thank goodness, and made it somewhat worthwhile.
The worst, however, was when we were checking out, and I wanted to buy a magnet at the register to add to my collection. No one was waiting behind us, so I took a few minutes to pick out which one I wanted. Granted, they were all of the same design, but each differed in the placements of the cracks (since it was a stone magnet). So while looking, the sales woman said "having trouble picking one?" And I said, "Yes, just want to pick the right one" And from that, she just grabbed the one that was in my hand, tossed it in our bag and rang us up. HOW RUDE. I was shocked, and just paid and walked out. I wish I had told her how rude that was. How dare you just grab something from a customer's hand? So my only recourse is to write us a review on any relevant site possible . So that's all. Not worth the 15 min. stop, and NOT the way to start or end your day. - jw

We enjoyed this winery so much. The tasting was fun and our family joined the wine club. The wine was excellent.
It was elegant and we all decided we would visit again when back in California. The area they have available to just sit, relax, and enjoy your wine was really nice.

Brady was awesome. He took the time to explain the whole process and he seemed genuinely into it. Thanks!

I visited with a few girlfriends in February. We packed a picnic and had a great time sitting at their picnic tables eating during our tasting. You do have to reserve a table but there was no fee to do so.
Their tasting was slightly less generous pours than I've had elsewhere. However the picnic tables and affordable lunch made it completely worth a visit. I had the Cabernet at a Silicon Valley event after visiting and really enjoyed it, wish I'd picked up a bottle.

Was not a planned stop, but was along our route, so we stopped in. The tasting room is small, but they are near completion of another much larger room which looks like it will be stunning upon completion. Great wines and merchandise as well,

Wonderful views, art, lush, helpful stewards were terrific....the art on each bottle is worth saving. We hate to throw them away!

We reserved an afternoon tasting for two couples. The reservations process was very easy and the price seems similar to the tasting prices at other excellent wineries. We had a lovely table with a nice view. Our host Wayne described each wine and the wineryâs history very well. Clos du Valâs pinot noir and cabernets are outstanding. We purchased two of their more rare cabernets. I would take visitors there again.

Just a lovely little spot to visit on Silverado Trail, if you are doing some wine tasting in Napa. Friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful grounds.

Of all of the tasting experiences weâve done in the Napa/ Sonoma area, our experience at Clos Du Val was by far our favorite. Not only is the tasting room beautiful, classy, and romantic - but their staff, especially our host Serf, was warm, inviting, and really went out of his way to make this experience one-of-a-kind for us. We would recommend this to anyone in the area, and we canât wait to come back for a visit soon! Best of the best!

I was told to visit this winery by my hotel, but if I knew that I was going to be treated like sh** I would have never gone. They were rude and acted as if we were invisible. The only thing I could figure is that because we're in out mid-twenties and not our 50's or older they decided we weren't worth the customer service. There was two older women working the tasting bar and they walked past us about 10-15 times in all and completely ignored us, even when we were trying to talk to them!!!
One of the women yelled at a group or twenty somethings as if to scold them for paying for the tasting first!! It was the worst winery I have ever visited and they have lost my business forever.
I would never go there, it's not worth it when there are so many other better wineries.
If you want to have a nice time at a great winery check out V. Sattui!! They're the best.

We aren't very big red wine drinkers, so this was definitely not the place for us. We did actually like the pinot noir, though, which is unusual for us. Expect to pay $15 for a tasting.

Visited the tasting room at lunchtime in late October 2013. We had made a reservation for a picnic space well in advance of our arrival. Unfortunately, there was a large corporate party going on that day, so the tasting room was mobbed, the service was challenged, and our picnic reservation confused. Very good wine, but the staff was very overwhelmed that day.

Was excited to again participate in a tasting at CDV. Great to refresh my palate on the current releases and got to experience a sneak peek at a barrel wine. Great experience time after time.

I was there 2 weeks ago as a second-time visitor. I had been there previously for a wedding in 2015 and the new construction/renovations were jaw-dropping!! The staff was extremely kind and courteous, as we didn't have a reservation or anything & were seated promptly outside. I don't recommend this method as it was very lucky on our part to be able to walk right in and sit-down like this at such a beautiful winery. The wine flight was $45 a person and with the order of a bottle or two, you are likely to get the $45 flight charge waived. Their Cabernet & Pinot Noir selections were absolutely delicious as always, leading me to order a couple of Pinot Noir bottles back to my house.
I always recommend this winery as a must-stop and will continue to do so..

My family and I were allowed by this winery to use its camping area provided either a tasting was done or a bottle was bought.
We opted for the latter and loved the sight surrounding us (vine trees) while enjoying a nice glass of their wine "Three Graces" (ref. USD 35). It is to be highlighted that although the staff is very friendly, this place is quite popular an can feel a bit crowded.
I would certainly recommend to take advantage of this picnic location as it is difficult to find a place that allows for such activity, more attractive and convenient than Clos Du Val.

We were pretty unorganized with our trip to Napa. The only things we had booked were our accommodation and bikes. Riding past Clos du Val, we decided to stop in and see if they had any availability, luckily they did. David took us through an amazing and lovely wine tasting. He was knowledgeable, charming, patient, and he wasn't pushing an order form in front of us the whole time, like another wine tasting we had the next day. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely go back!!

This vineyard was very unique in setting and itâs new tasting room. Exquisite, unique look with a glass wall looking out over the front of its vineyard. Our host, dubbed âNapa Nickâ was a great guide, knew the vineyard and the region like a homegrown local would, and was great to talk to. One of the few wineries that showcased a delectable Cab Franc that was equal, and in some ways, more enticing than their equally inviting Cab Sav. Donât miss out on a great fine, beautiful tasting room, and wine that leaves a pleasant memory after every sip.

I really enjoyed the wine, this is one of the few vineyards where I purchased bottles to take home. The staff at the tasting were friendly and very knowledgable and the vineyards themselves were beautiful. If I am ever back in Napa I'd certainly return here.

This was not a special wine tasting. The pourer made fun of our college age traveling companions because of their areas of study. They do have a beautiful property and we were able to eat our picnic lunch in front of their building. We had arranged that the day before.

We just stopped in but the staff was very friendly. Out front there was very comfortable couches, ables and chairs to just sit back and relax.

My first impression when we arrived was WOW! Really beautiful winery. Brought some lunch to picnic but first went for a tasting. The gentleman that attended us was very friendly but was interrupted a lot of times. There were moments where he poured the wines but didn't explained it because he had to go do another things. Nevertheless the wines were delicious. Bought a bottle of Bourdeux style wine and took it to the grounds and had lunch. We took our time and never we were hurried up.

We tasted four wines for $15, but didn't like any enough to buy. Our wine pourer was new on the job, but she gave it a good effort. The grounds are clean and pleasant.

Favorite winery of our trip! We did the Past, Present, Future | Yettalil Immersion Tasting and it was exceptional We had a private tasting in a cabana at the edge of the vineyard. We loved learning about the vineyard and having our own private oasis to sit and enjoy the wines. The wines were exceptional and we are looking forward to getting wine club shipments.

I'd fallen in love with the spectacular reds from Clod du Val years ago and love to revisit when up in the Napa Valley. You get a splendid tour of the estate, vineyards, production facilities, winery and tasting room. Nice pours of super reds for my taste. Join their wine club and get the best of the best. Enjoy. ...

I had winetasting there. The staff were nice and patient. Just make sure though that there is a designated driver in your group who will not join you winetasting.

I really like Clos Du Val wines. They are consistent, not overpriced and very dependable.
The winery is nice. You have a good tour, see how they make wine and the best part you get to drink some.

This was my first visit to the Clos du Val Winery. It did not disappoint. The tasting room has a vibe that stands out. It's relaxing, chill and perfect for tasting wines. You could spend all day there. The wines were outstanding....especially the Cab Franc. Was able to spend time with Raquel and our host, Luis. If you have the opportunity, ask for Luis as your host. Incredible knowledge and great conversation about the wine. You will not be disappointed when you visit.

My wife and I had a great time with a tasting. It is a comfortable relaxed tasting with great wines. We tried wines at every price point and our host was knowledgeable and entertaining. Good tasting experience. And by the way - wines are pretty good too. We ended up shopping a few home...so maybe we will post a follow up.

Nothing to complain about. Wine was good. Friend lost her purse, but they called us to retrieve it. Thankful!

I have been visiting Clos du Val once or twice a year during the last 15 years and each visit I bought at least 4 to 6 bottles of wine. I decided to take few wine lover friends from overseas to Napa and of course stop by Clos du Val. When we arrived at their brand new tasting room (which was half empty) we were asked what time was our reservation. I said we are here for tasting not wine tour. They said no you can't, you need to make a reservation. I said I understand the need of making a reservation for a wine tour but why we need a reservation for a standing few minutes at your half empty bar for tasting few wines. They said no.
I'm very frustrated by this new "only with reservation" trend in Napa.
As I wine lover Napa is about taking our time in discovering and enjoying wine and winery not stressing about the time of your next wine tasting reservation. We are already stressing 5 days a week at work. For me restricting wine tasting kills the whole Napa experience.

stupid business policy, they didn't give anything to 2 people without signing in.
no visiting guests

With a "2-4-1" Coupon from the Napa Valley Visitor's Center this was our first stop on our day trip tour through Napa Valley.
Although the tasting room was a bit "touristy" the staff was warm and welcoming. During our tasting we were encouraged to walk around the winery and vineyard which were both beautiful.
There are also two picnic areas where you can relax and enjoy your samplings.

Nice Vineyard, but you can tell it is moving in the direction of a commercialized experience and losing the family touch. I would spend my time/money elsewhere next time.
It is sad, as there is great history with the founder and this vineyard, but the ambiance and experience tell you that they are focused on turning a profit above all else.
PROS: The view was fantastic and the wine was good. It is a nice French touch in the traditional California cab world, however they are certainly proud of the wine (prices). It was not as good as the pricing; Better wine for the price elsewhere.
CONS: Felt stiff, and expensive. A very modern building with a pretentious feeling about everything. Upbeat music like you would have at a rooftop bar downtown somewhere; not what I would expect for a quite afternoon in Napa Valley. It all felt purely transactional, like any run of the mill bar.
There are many more genuine winery options in the Valley.

Expensive tastings, small pours, crowded room, average wine. Go to Alexander or Dry Creek valley in Sonoma instead

Stopped by Clos du Val on a short trip to Napa. The tasting room has recently been redone and has a great feel - very clean. Grounds are lovely and everything is starting to turn green. Beautiful picnic area and wonderful place to spend the afternoon with one of their great wines. A must stop while in Napa.

Clos Du Val Winery is a higher end or Estate type winery with lovely grounds and a nice tasting room. They offer several different tasting options ($20, $30, and $40) and feature various Clos Du Val wines. They also have an option of crediting your tasting fee toward a wine purchase, which we opted for. Beyond tasting some fine wines, we got a very nice education on growing and making wine as well as some local history about Napa Valley. All in all, a very good place to visit if in Napa.

Clos du Val was the first winery we visited on our four day trip to Napa Valley . It definitely set the bar high for us as we were very well taken care of by Bill. It was a pleasure listening to the history, facts, and follow his lead and advice on tasting wine, sharing knowledge and even making us try additional special wines according to our taste!
Thanks again to Bill, this was the best experience we have had our entire trip!
Annie and Vijay

Stopped here on a recent visit to Napa. We called about a week ahead of time to reserve a picnic table for lunch. When we called, their tasting room was extremely busy, but Rose called us back within an hour and helped us with our reservation. When we arrived, we stopped in and bought a bottle of white wine. The staff was well informed and helped us choose a few other wineries to visit on our trip as well. It was a picturesque spot to have a picnic- sharing a bottle of wine and overlooking the vineyard was amazing. Would definitely recommend!

Very knowledgeable staff and great wines. Also not very crowded which is good because tasting room is on the small side.

Interesting, good wines, economical. The plantings and landscaping were stunning as was the area surrounding the place. It appeared that tours could be booked for groups both outdoors (under large canopies) and indoors (with a massive, elaborate table inside the tank-holding room itself). There was no pressure and no rush.
The tasting consisited of two whites and two reds - good representatives of their products. There was also a gift shop on the premises.

We had a nice time at Clos Du Val. The tasting was great and the poors were very good. It was my Birthday so I got an extra pour. Also, our guide took a wonderful pix of us which was a nice touch. The grounds are amazing.

We have recently visited clos du val vineyards. The facility lives up to the wines you already love. Make this a don't miss on your i ternary!! You won't be disappointed

We tasted wine at this vineyard during our Napa Valley tour. Overall, the wine was enjoyable and the tasting room fairly standard; moreover, we found the staff and faculty to be very friendly and helpful. They provided us with some advise as to where some of Napa Valley's "hidden gems" could be located. Which thankfully lead us to find some other amazing vineyards. Enjoy!

We ended up visiting this vineyard only b/c they have picnic tables and allow you to bring your own food. The only caveat is that you either have to do their wine tasting or buy bottle of wine from them. The four of us ended up doing 4 wine tastings and spent 2 hours just enjoying the view and our picnic lunch. The wine itself is okay, nothing I would purchase - it wasn't bad either, very light. The smarter option would have been to just buy a bottle of two of wine from them and enjoy that with the wine.
The only unfortunate part is that it was very windy on the day we went so some of our plates kept on flying out and it felt cold. However, otherwise it was nice to sit out over looking to the vines, the main road, and the mountains in the back.
Def. recommend it if you are looking for a picnic spot where you can enjoy some new wine and bring your own food!

We're members so were treated very well. Tasting was of top wines and we bought one for our collection. Information provided was both timely and in depth. They did a great job and it's a very nice set up and the grounds are beautiful.

Clos Du Val has a large tasting room and also outside cabanas that can be reserved for $__ per person (I forget, call the winery). Nice whites and reds, I particularly liked their Sauv Blanc and 2013 Cab Franc.

Staff was very friendly. Enjoyed our tasting experience. Manager went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Purchased two cases of wine. Will definitely go back. We were served "impressionist" wine from Clos Du Val at the De Young museum in San Francisco. This was one of our first stops in Napa.

This was our very first winery visit in Napa, so I didn't know what to expect. As it turns out, it was a lovely stop. We had reserved a picnic table in advance (you have your choice of main lawn or olive groves and can reserve online beforehand). The main lawn has the best views of the vineyard. The olive groves are quaint and private, but harvest was going on when we visited, so the equipment was quite loud.
We purchased a bottle of chardonnay, and took in the views while enjoying an excellent lunch that we picked up from Oakville Grocery.
We purchased another bottle of wine to take home with us (their tasting menu says you get a free tasting with each bottle purchased, which seemed to thoroughly confuse the guy who checked us out, but he eventually figured it out and charged us correctly). All in all, it was a nice vineyard to visit.

We just loved this tasting experience. Our gentleman server Fred went above and beyond, meticulously explaining the art of wine tasting (always take two sips...the first sip is the warm up for the 2nd!) while discussing each varietal and the subleties that are indicative of each.
We spent quite a bit of time there but it didn't feel that way as we had so much fun really enjoying the whole experience. Fred waived our tastings as we purchased a few bottles. Clos du Val has a gorgeous Rose that I can't stop thinking about.
As we were leaving, we couldn 't help noticing the welcoming cabana seating outside. Fred followed us out and happily took what became the nicest photo of the 4 of us on that trip.
highly recommend!

This was my second trip to Napa and I have visited around 20+ wineries so far. Clos Du Val is one of my favorite wine makers in Napa and we had an amazing experience. Our host was Lupe and she went beyond great service to make sure we had an amazing experience . She gave us lots of information about the history of the winery and the multiple varietals they offer. She took us behind the scenes to see their barrel storage. We are very impressed with the quality of the wine for each varietal. We started with Malbec, then Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon. She also gave us tastings of their top wines and these were so good that we decided to become club members. The winery is modern and the design is espectacular. I highly recommend this place to experience great wine with a just price tag.

Loved the picnic at the cabana. Enjoyed the idea of tasting at your pace, sit it out at the cabana and enjoying the view. Could not have a better afternoon with friends.

Stopped here first on a recommendation from a friend. Don't know why all the bad reviews as we thought it was great. Got there just as it opened and the staff was extremely helpful. Even bought a couple of bottles. The grounds were immaculate and what we thought a winery should look like.

My former colleagues and I reunited for a fabulous girlsâ wine tasting at Clos du Val, and it was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, Ani greeted us with her signature warmth and gracious charmâshe always makes us feel like family. We were then hosted by the amazing Lupita, who was truly fantastic! Her knowledge of each wine and her passion for sharing the Clos du Val story elevated our experience. Every pour was stunning and delicious.
I picked up my wine club allocation and couldnât resist purchasing a couple of large-format Cabernet Sauvignons. My friends were equally impressedâcollectively taking home eight bottles, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each one was a winner!
It was also a joy to see familiar, smiling facesâSara and Erin bring so much beauty and warmth to the experience.
Clos du Val continues to be one of my absolute favorite wineries in Napaâelegant wines, impeccable hospitality, and a feeling of coming home every time. Highly recommend!

Grand entrance to the vineyard, with a beautiful courtyard. The tasting room is not grand, but sufficient. Tasting fee is $15, but we purchased the cabernet sauvignon, fee was waived.
An A Cappella singing group entertained the crowd while we were there, quite amusing.

We ended up with MANY bottles and chocolate. You have to try the combination of wine and chocolate it's to buy more wine for.

We happened upon this place totally by chance. It was the last day of our trip and we thought it looked pretty, so we drove in. We were met inside by a fine gentleman named fred. He was so kind and helpful to us. it was late in the day and all the tours had finished, and all the tours in the neighboring wineries would be over by the time we got there. He made an exception for us and took us back int ot he fermentation room, showed us the oak barrels and gave us quite a lesson on wine making. It was the best hour we spent in a winery because he was so chock full of wonderful, useful knowledge. He took the time to explain and field all our eager questions.
After his generous tour, he took us to the bar for a wine sampling. He made us sample wines in a variety of price ranges. Some were very expensive. He was patient and allowed us to take the time to taste the wine and learn as much as we could in the time we were there. We are not novice wine drinkers, but we felt as if we were because of sll that we learned here. The other "pourers" at the bar were friendly and nice too but Fred was special.
The outside of the tasting area has a beautiful deck on which you may picnic on. Nice clean tables and chairs with umbrellas that over look the gorgeous spanning vineyard. We were free to sit and drink our wine there, eat or simply enjoy the view. Which we did unhesitatingly.
We decided to order some wine to be shipped back home because it was delicious and because of the treatment we received. As a side note, the wine was to be delivered via 2 day express. Upon checking the weather forecast for my area, a rep from the winery contacted me. tShe informed me that it would be dangerous ship the wine on the date I had expected. She said she would keep checking and get back to me with either more options or a new ship date. This rep has stayed true to her word. She has contacted me several times,to keep me abreast of what i can do, or if i wait -she would keep checking the weather and let me know when it would be safe to ship. Through all her emails, we have decided when a safe time to ship will be. I thank her for her wonderful customer service and attention she gave me, to ensure my wine arrived perfectly. This is a winey not to be missed. Because it offers so much i the way of customer service! We LOVED it here!

As members, we looked forward to visiting this location, one of our favorite wineries, especially because we know that we can plan a fabulous picnic here. After our delicious lunch with a predictably well priced and delicious chardonnay, we ventured into the tasting room. Filled with barreled tables, we were very lucky to have Rob approach us as our tasting guide. He was exceptional, and without our usual aggressive encouragement, he served and suggested a range of remarkable wines...many off the standard list.
Brad was exceptional in every way and made our visit unique! I hope he is valued as much as much as we feel he deserves to be, based in our experience today!

They welcomed my Yorkie and even put out a water bowl for him. They allowed both of us to stay inside in the AC.
We ended up purchasing two very nice SB

This winery is my favorite in Napa Valley. A little off the beaten path of Hwy 29 (the winery is on Silverado Trail), the setting is peaceful and has an expansive view of the vineyards to the west, with the mountains to the east. The staff is delightful and friendly, and if you have been there more than once, they tend to either remember you or treat you really well with a sample of some precious vintage bottle. We go to Clos du Val every year and are never disappointed. Also, they have cabanas that you can rent for that Napa Valley dream picnic you always imagined. An absolute must for the wine connoisseur: the reds are *divine*. I'm sure the whites are just as stellar.

Beautiful property, but didn't offer anything that would entice me to go back. Our host didn't offer much insight into the wine aside from what was described on the paper. She was young, and admitted it wasn't her passion. Wine was good but felt overpriced. The complimentary charcuterie offering was appreciated.
They have a barn that offers by the glass options without reservations, which gave an impression that it's more of a quick stop along the way vs. design your day around stopping there.

The whites we tasted here were good but they are supposed to have good Cab's. The ones we were poured smelled like eucalyptus or grass and had descriptions of cigar box and tar. The reds were "new" and tasted grassy with harsh tannins. Not my taste personally.

My wife and I stopped by Clos du Val in the Stag's Leap district of Napa Valley on Thursday and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful winery grounds, the excellent wine, and the friendly hosts in the tasting room. We enjoyed it so much on the next day we came back and brought three friends with us. Our hosts, Linden and Nik were very friendly and very knowledgeable of not only the Clos du Val wines, but also of the entire area and Napa winery history. Unlike some wineries, Clos du Val actually encourages you to bring some food while you visit so you can sit on their patio and
enjoy a snack or lunch during your visit.

Small but intimate place in a beautiful setting, lovely wines and friendly staff. We sat outside and enjoyed a nice wine tasting.

Stopped by for a wine tasting and I must say this place is something else. Nik took care of us and his candor and personality were only surpassed by his immense knowledge of all things wine. Took the opportunity to ask him some tough and interesting questions and the conversation that came out of it was nothing short of incredible. I learned so much about Clos Du Val, Napa, the business side of the industry, local laws and regulations, club memberships, and everything in between. The space is gorgeous but Nik really was the star of the show, the wine a close second. Definitely will visit again and by far the best wine tasting of the trip.
Cheers đ„

Arrived with a packed lunch to sit. Went into tasting room and purchased 1/2 bottle to have at picnic table.
Wine was good, Cabernet, tables were really nice with good view of the vines. Clean and quiet.
A nice break to the day and most important the picnic area was not right off the highway!

First off, this is the wine club you should join! The wine is wonderful and becoming a member of Clos Du Val wine club allows members to reserve the cabanas facing the vineyard and bring outside food for a picnic with a complimentary tasting for four! If you are a frequent visitor to the Napa Valley, it will become a permanent stop on your tasting tour. Second, the service is fantastic..friendly, comfortable and personable. Claire is just the best hostess... we always request her and each time she has exceeded our expectations!

We visit here often and can't get enough of the wines they offer here. The beauty of the grounds and the vineyards are breathtaking. The tasting room staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They make every visit feel like a special occasion. Thanks is one winery that should not be missed when visiting Napa Valley!!!

We visited in January of 2011, having enjoyed their wines at home. We actually joined the club while we were there. We've enjoyed the wine shipments (reds only club, but we do occasionally buy their whites too), with the exception of the Cab Franc. We just don't like that particular wine, not to say it's a bad one. Sadly, we get 2 bottles every year. I guess I'll stash it in the cellar for a decade or so, then try it and kick myself for not buying more.
CdV also has a lot of nice specials around the holidays that they will email you about.
Tasting room is nice, and the grounds of the winery are fun to walk around and relax while sipping a glass.

(I automatically deduct 1 point for places that charge, which is pretty much all of them. I know I'll sound old, but I remember the time when there was no such thing as reservations and tastings were free. Popularity comes with a price, I suppose.)
We waited til the last minute before making our plans, so I was happy to find a place that didn't require reservations. The grounds are beautiful, and the tasting room was very nice. It wasn't too crowded, it was pet friendly, and the wines were very good. Best of all, our pourer was knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. We chatted and sipped. We admired the views. We relaxed. And if that isn't the point of going wine tasting, I don't know what is.

Wine tasting is a fun.. and you should try to rent a cabana for a group. The hourly rates for the cabana are not expensive and the way to go for a group. Or just stand inside and sip and swirl. Nic was our wine guy and he was knowledgeable, laid back and not the stuffy Napa wine experience I expected. A great time and good wine..

Just north of the town of Napa, on the Silverado Trail (which parallels Highway 29, but with much less traffic), is Clos du Val, a winery located in the heart of the Stags Leap District and which played a crucial role in the events that put Napa Valley on the map. Clos du Val was founded in 1972 by a descendant of the oldest winehouse in Bordeaux, Barton & Guestier, who set out to produce world class Cabernet Sauvignon. Its inaugural vintage was one of the six California wines in the legendary âJudgment of Paris.â In a rematch 10 years later, Clos du Val took first place!
Clos du Val means (in French) âsmall vineyard estate of a small valleyâ but it is unimaginable to use the word âsmallâ to describe its sprawling facility, the wines produced, or the tasting experiences offered here. Hirondelle House, the new tasting room which opened in 2018, is an homage to the swallows that return each spring to nest in the rafters and leave their mark on the side of an adjoining winery. Inside, the walls and ceiling are paneled with straightened oak barrel staves from old fermentation tanks; concrete exterior walls are stamped with wood grain. The premiere of Somm 3, the third installment of the wine documentary series, was the first event held in Clos du Valâs new tasting room, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame glorious views of the vineyards.
Bill Adrian, the host for our tasting, enthralled us with his knowledge of wine, how it ages and how it pairs with food. Wines are made in the âOld Worldâ style; they are less âfruityâ with higher acidity and a slightly tart finish. This style results in wines that are food-friendly and age worthy â demonstrated when Bill brought out a bottle of its mid-range, mass production 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was spectacular!

Gorgeous grounds which are meticulously manicured. Lovely tasting room with an extremely knowledgeable pourer (Jim) who provided us with the history of the winery, their vineyard(s), each wine, all. Fabulous wines! Relaxing experience with personalized attention. Don't miss!

It was amazing! We chose it from a list and feel like it was fate! Signed up for the wine club after an amazing tasting and received a hand written note from our somm. Claire a few weeks later. It was personal and heartfelt and ensured we made the right decision visiting there and can't wait to go back!

We have made several visits here and it is always amazing. The staff are not only super friendly they know their wine. You can reserve a cabana or find a seat out side and taste their wines overlooking the vineyards. Superb wine and vista. Don't miss this experience.

The basic tasting here is always great, and there are lovely cabanas you can reserve for picnicking (and some tables you don't have to reserve). But to my mind, the real treat here is for those who love aged wines. Once staff figures out that you like old wine, they bust out library selections to try. I don't mean two or three years old, I mean a couple of decades old (or more) -- so unusual in Napa Valley (or anywhere in CA). Cheers!

We visited this winery a few days ago and loved their wines! We had a private tasting that completely fulfilled our expectations. Their Pinto Noir is one of the best we have tasted.

We were treated by and friendly and professional wine guide. He was engaging and we enjoyed a high quality selection of wine. We recommend it.

We came here with some guests, specifically because we get free tasting through the Napa Neighbors program. They don't honor NN on weekends anymore. Luckily they squeezed us in anyway without a reservation. The manager did honor the NN discount and we bought some bottles of their amazing Chardonnay. It's an old winery, one of the originals in the valley. The father recently stepped down and the son had taken over with fresh new ideas. We were impressed and will definitely be back.

Great vineyard with fantastic views. The tasting room is large and airy, and they have outdoor seating overlooking the vineyard and under a row of olive trees. The wine is quite good. I really loved the 2012 Petit Verdot, very unique and flavorful. $25 or $35 for tasting and fee is waived if you purchased $50 worth of wine (Feb'16).

Their 2010 Cabernets are quite nice. Was too breezy to sit outside. The tasting room was crowded so the experience was not as personable this time. We had a person fairly new to the vineyard, but he was very nice. I will make a point to book ahead of time, and during the week next time to have a better experience. Their Chardonnay brittle is a favorite of my husband's.

We had such a lovely time at Clos Du Val. Our host, Nik, was gracious and personable, which ensured that our tasting was fun and casual, not cold or stuffy at all. The wines were outstanding but we really enjoyed the atmosphere most of all; being able to relax and enjoy a quiet, casual tasting amidst the hustle and bustle of the rest of the valley was a welcome contrast to the rest of our busy day!

The wines were good, the price point was good, and the atmosphere was average. What made our trip special was our wine host Fred. He took his time and was very personable. More importantly for us he helped us plan our remaining time in Napa and Sonoma recommending some vineyards that we likely would not have visited. Not to mention we arrived very close to their last call and we were not rushed at all.

My husband and I enjoy this wine so it was very nice to visit their acting room although it wasn't anything special it was quite enjoyable.

Three of us went for the Hirondelle House tasting on a beautiful afternoon in mid October. They have a new tasting room here, and the outdoor setting is gorgeous. Our host was very friendly and knowledgeable. We didnât end up buying any wines to ship home as we thought they were good but over priced.

The wines here decent, but nothing spectacular, and inside the place felt a little cold. The wow factor, however, is outside - the private 'cabanas' to be reserved to spend time drinking wine or doing tastings in the sun. I'm sure this would be a lovely place to spend an afternoon on a gorgeous day!

Stopped in while driving through Napa. The grounds were gorgeous. We saw sheep ecologically trimming the grass. After sauntering around and swinging on a rope swing; my parents and I enjoyed a glass of their Rose and Cabernet on their shaded deck. The hosts were quite cordial and informative. Overall great experience!

My husband and I came here for our first winery stop on our anniversary trip, and it exceeded every expectation we had. We were seated on the beautiful patio (the wine tasting room with big windows was lovely too if youâre seated inside) and the staff went above and beyond to teach us things and answer our questions. We overstayed our tasting length and never felt rushed or pushed out. In fact, when we left they were sure to say stay as long as youâd like. The wine was delicious and Surf and Justin made us feel right at home. We even got a little tour of the barrels and machines they use to make the wine. A+ tasting in every respect.

We were with another couple on a trip to Napa and decided to give Clos du Val a try since we had vouchers for free tastings.
First I'll plead amnesty. We like to talk; not just drink. If you pour for the four of us, we will ask you about what you're pouring, how it was fermented, how it was aged, where the grapes were grown, etc. We ask because it makes a difference to us and we are interested in knowing the details. We're not experts, but we have a moderate amount of wine knowledge and like to learn more.
Our experience at Clos Du Val went like this: We had to search out a pourer because no one even looked up to make eye contact with us when we entered. We had to ask the pourer his name because all he did was get out glasses and start pouring. Once he made the first pour, he showed us the label and walked away. This repeated itself through two more pours. When he returned for the fourth pour, we nicely told him we were all set (no need to spend time there when he didn't care if we did or not) and we turned to leave. As we walked away he said something like, "Well it didn't seem like you were really into the wine anyway."
Hmmmm - Very strange comment when other wineries invited us to stay longer and keep asking questions.
Very nice grounds, wine was tolerable (although we might have liked it more if he had talked us through it), and very pour service - pun and misspelling intended. We won't be going back even though it was free.

Really great amazing service. Very informative, and friendly staff. Over extended customer service by far!! Gorgeous winery as well! Will be back!

Great place to picnic! Nice tasting room and beautiful grounds. Lots of tables, out front and in the shade under olive trees to the side of the building.

I especially loved the Rose at this winery. I had it last year and was glad when I found out they still have it. Our friends bought it and won a 2 night stay because it won over 15 other wines at the wine contest at our dinner. The people that work there are especially friendly and informative.

At the end of a Weekend of Wine Tasting in Napa Valley, we discovered we were close to Clos Du Val vinyard, which had been among the best wines I'd ever had during my business travel and Dining Well on corporate clients dime days...We arrived at a new, modern and gorgeous facility in the Stags Leap Wine District. Our greeting was friendly and inviting even before our 'Wine Ambassador' - Rod - came along. He was the perfect guide to an over the top Tasting adventure.
The wines were superior to nearly all we'd tasted over the course of the weekend. The Cab Franc was out of this world. The Estate Cabernet sung a deep and rich song of complexity and accessibility. We enjoyed every stage of a more than an hour tasting. And we joined their Wine Club before departing. Clos Do Val has it going on, still again and now.

This winery was a highlight of my day of wine testing in Napa, CA. The wines are spectacular and the connoisseur, his name was Bill did an amazing job of explaining and going into details that were important to me. I am a wine fanatic, and have been testing wines around the world. In addition, I am a chemical engineer , working in biotechnology, and view wine making as a professional hobby. The wines at Clos Du Val and I did the expensive wine selection were special, with everyone to be a surprise as Merlot( 2013) was not your usual one but a treat, and Cabernet Sauvignon was amazingly balanced also different. I became a wine club member and purchased 2 bottles on the spot. I got also special testing of the Reserved Cabernet of 1995, which I treasured. I got a tour of the inside winery machinery and explanation of the process of wine making.

We visited Clos Du Val recently on a Sunday afternoon. We found the tasting room to be hectic, noisy and not an awful lot of fun. The staff working during our visit appeared to have been hired for looks rather than because of their knowledge of wine or ability to interact with customers. We were hastily rushed through our tasting menu with little additional information provided about what we were drinking. We were repeatedly asked if we had finished yet, and were ready to be moved onto the next wine. The wines themselves were unremarkable and certainly not worth the pricetags.
Given the choice again, I would avoid Clos Du Val. You can do so much better in Napa.

Tried several wines which were very nice. A bit lacking in body for my tastes but very nice. Jim the bartender is a hoot and we had a great chat about wines, Napa and local restaurants. Enjoyable visit and a lovely building.

My husband and I and our two friends came upon this winery while travelling the Silverado Hwy and took a chance at stopping in. We are really glad we did. Tastings were $15 pp and we were very fortunate to get Fred as our server. He was so friendly and so knowledgeable about the wines we were sampling and although the four of us are wine enthusiasts, we all learned a lot from Fred! He took his time to explain the different Cabs and Pinots we were trying and did an experiment involving the aeration of wines and how it affected the wine's taste (he proved the expensive aerator we own which is commonly sold in winery giftshops was more or less a gimmick and in actual fact, adversely affected the taste of our wine). There is a nice picnic/lounge area outside which we didn't take advantage of. But we did enjoy the wines and purchased a few to take with us (my friend's tasting fees were waved because of the purchase she made). When checking out, my wine was put in a nice decorative cloth wine bag with the Clos du Vol logo on it which is a nice keepsake from the winery. This was our first visit to California wine country (our friend's second) and the Silverado Trail has absolutely stunning scenery. We reside in wine country in the Niagara area in Canada and so are used to seeing vineyards. But I can honestly say that the rolling hills of perfectly groomed vineyards for as far as the eye can see provides for some breathtaking scenery in comparison to the sporadically planted vineyards integrated here and there throughout Niagara (which also offers some great wines!). The four of us talked about our visit to Clos du Vol during our holiday and how wonderful Fred was in taking the time that he did with us to make us fully understand and appreciate the wines we were sampling. I'd highly recommend a stop at Clos du Vol and definitely a drive up the Silverado Trail.

We were hosted at Clos du Val by the winemaker herself. A very pleasant short visit with a lot of technical information and tasting of their powerful reds! Will go back any time...

Beautiful winery with lovely views. Clos wine is not my personal favorite. All the gems are further down on the Silverado Trail!

We had a great time here in our own private outdoor covered lounge. Wines were bought out on a very nice timber board. A good description of the wines by Rosie and a run down on the winery was very well done. Oh yeh and the wine was great!!!!

Well set back off the road with a nice seating area with parasols. Wanted to buy a glass of wine but they cannot sell it like that. So we was offered a bottle of Merlot which they would open and pour a glass and we would pay for the bottle.
Make sure you ask for the price first.......I didn't and for those of you from the UK this was most certainly not 3 for ÂŁ10 from Threshers wink wink..
Lovely to sit outside and look across the vineyards.

If you just stop in they will give you a tasting at the bar! Make a reservation and you will get a private tour and tasting for the same price and itâs so wonderful!! This was our favorite place of everywhere we have ever visited in Napa! Scott lead us through such a wonderful tasting and was great help in showing us other wines that we also might like! We went back again two days later to get more! We will definitely go back every trip!

We stopped in for a tasting after being recommended by our hotel. So glad we did - although wish we had more time there. the staff was outstanding, view and patio area lovely.

This winery is in the heart of the Stags Leap district. Their red wines are excellent. The wine tasting staff was very knowledgeable and we had a great time tasting. This has now become one of the few wine clubs I belong to.

For the not so frequent visitors of Napa Valley, this will be a lesser known venue. The winery is, from what I was told during a previous trip, still owned by a Frenchman who has been here for at least 30 years. I know the feeling. It's very hard to leave Napa Valley. I think he has done an exquisite job with his red wines. Well worth stopping and enjoying for a bit.

Of the multiple wineries we visited in Napa, this is one of the few we left without purchasing something. The site was overcrowded at the time we visited, the staff stretched (and it showed), and the wines just not that special.

The time afternoon we spent at Clos Du Val was perfectly lovely. Dan gave us a mini tour of the harvesting process and then gave us an exceptional tasting. He was very personable and informative. It felt more like an old friend sharing his love for wine with us than the typical touristy tasting. If you only visit one winery in Napa Valley, make it this one! We left with fond memories of a lovely experience. We also have a greater appreciation for people who are in the business because they love it, not just to make a profit. The grounds and tasting room are lovely, even their bathroom is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting outside under an umbrella enjoying our wine while overlooking Napa Valley.

We had a lovely afternoon sitting at the social table tasting red wines. Like a lot of places in Napa it was only red wines at the tasting. My husband who enjoys red said that the quality of wine was high. We were thoroughly impressed by the staff and particularly Craig who was the host of the tasting. He was a delight, incredibly knowledgeable and so welcoming. The tasting cost us $35US per person. Which considering the stunning surroundings and time youâre there it was worth it. Really worthwhile doing, definitely book a visit.

Half of the tasting room at Clos du Val is outside, right next to the vines which at this of year are changing color. Even when taking into account the high standards of Napa Valley tasting guides, CdV stands out in terms of engagement and knowledge. I've learned so much about the land, family history, the art of wine making... the wines (cabs sauvignon, franc, blanc) were uniformly outstanding.

6 of us stopped at Clos Du Val, bought a bottle of their Chardonnay, went to their tables on the lawn and enjoyed a picnic that we brought. The setting is lovely, the staff extremely friendly. The view of the gardens and the vineyards are exceptional. This is my second time at the winery and I shall return to enjoy more of their excellent wines.

We were very impressed by this winery. Being that it was Bastille Day, the tasting room was decorated and the pourers were all wearing berets. It was apparent that there were some special activities for wine club members, but we did not feel that we were ignored being that we were not club members. Great wines, the guy pouring for us was very knowledgeable in the sciences involved in the wine making process.

The cabernet wines were first class and we of course purchased. Recommend that anybody visiting the area include on itinerary. Winery is French owned with an Australian connexion

During our wine tasting, we had a server named Clint who totally ruined our experience. He rushed us through our tasting and was just plain rude! We were on a biking tour and he even had the nerve to yell at our guide for something she never did! He did this in front on everyone in the room. We have friends coming to Napa and we have advised them not to even bother with this winery because there are so many great ones!

We wanted to go somewhere we could just show up and taste wine unlike some of the pretentious wineries we went to where you can only participate if you book ( sometimes at outrageous prices) . The winery is very nice, and the service was good. Tasting was probably similar in cost to many other places ( it still blows my mind that it costs around $25+ to taste 3 wines) - that's Napa for you I guess.

We have visited twice and are now club members, which really enhances your return visits with outdoor cabanas looking down on the valley, special pours, comp tastings, special events, etc.

Great place to plan a wine tasting and yet be able to bring your own food. Winery is very accommodating in that guests can bring outside food provided wine consumed on the grounds is only purchased from Clos Du Val. Fair enough - it is well worth it since they make consistent quality wines.

We made our plans to bring our lunch in from a deli in St. Helena to pair with our tasting at Clos du Val. We found a perfect bottle after the tasting and enjoyed their private picnic area. Of the many places we did a tasting and ate lunch during our week-long visit, this was the nicest.
We will likely return next year.

We have been here many times and it has great wine. The staff is friendly and it can be busy at times. The views are nice from outside when tasting.

I got to experience Clos Du Val recently and LOVED IT!
Their wines are beautiful, the ambience is beautiful, and the hosts are AMAZING.
Luis took care of us, and his knowledge was phenomenal. I am a Napa Native... and I can tell that Luis is the real deal. He really knows his stuff. He is definitely not your typical tasting room worker!
Their recently redone tasting room is absolutely GORGEOUS. We went on a rainy day, and the views were still beautiful. With their floor to ceiling windows, I canât imagine a bad time of year to visit.

Talk about some phenomenal hosts, we arrived late to open arms by two guys who should both get raises. They allowed us to do a vertical tasting so we bought a bunch of bottle. We were the last customers but they made us feel like we could stay forever -- and totally made our day.

Yountville is the most beautiful place in Napa County. Clos du Val Winery, just 2 miles south in Napa is one of the most beautiful wineries and they have wonderful wines.

First visited in 2008, then 2012 and now 2016. Friendly, knowledgeable, talkative pourers and a lot of friendly people were here when the family visited.
The wines are getting even better and had a fine experience tasting and I'll have to say again that this is one of the most beautiful wineries in Napa Valley.
Easy to find on Silverado Trail road, and easy to park. Tents and tables are outside to sip. Enthusiastic employees make a difference. I recommend this winery.

We always see Clos Du Val in movies and TV shows. It's a very recognizable label. They are open until 5 pm, which is later than many other wineries. Thus, we ended up here at 4 pm after tasting at a few other places. We fell in love with the setting and joined their club. "Bill" was our host and took great care of us.
The tasting room was filled with youthful, trendy couples and groups. Our type of crowd! The wine was spectacular. During warmer months, you can sit outside at picnic tables or cabanas (club members only, reservations required) overlooking the vineyard and western hills and enjoy tasting or a picnic.
We can't wait to go back with our other wine-loving friends and enjoy an afternoon of private cabana tastings.
If you are in Napa Valley, you must go to Clos Du Val. They are on Silverado Trail, between Napa and Yountville. In the Stags Leap District. Cheers!

This was our first stop on our virgin Napa trip. Maybe they were just understaffed but we felt like we were being "processed" politely. Good thing our next stop was Domaine .

Fred is one of the hosts behind the wine bar helping out with tastings. We got there early today and after asking him to explain the different regions in California, he went on to explain the 200 micro-climates in the state, and recommended 6 more vineyards to visit for either tours or tastings. You can imagine how helpful this was given that their are some 200 within 10-20 miles. Fred M knew so much and was very helpful.

We had the best time doing a private tasting in a cabana that overlooked the vineyard! It even came with a personalized sign, which made it feel super special! Highly recommend Clos du Val: good wine and beautiful winery!

The wines here were not stellar. They are a huge winery producing thousands of cases per month. But what they lacked in quality and craftsmanship, they made up for in diversity and quantity. This winery has something for everyone. A HUGE list of wines to choose from. Large tasting room, would be great for a big group, especially those who are new to wine. Cool merchandise for sale.
Not suitable for wine snobs.

Beautiful Winery, grapes growing everywhere. We joined a Wine Club there. The grounds are just beautiful to walk around. Their wine is different but good. Very impressive Wine Tasting. I would go back

Our best Napa wine tasting experience occurred at the Clos Du Val Winery, which is located on the picturesque Silverado Trail. Our "Wine Education Associate" Alex, did and outstanding job, and spent a great deal of time teaching us proper technique and what to look for when tasting fine wines. As an example, he did a paired comparison of a wine that had been aerated vs one poured from a freshly opened bottle. Similarly he pointed out the unique flavor characteristics of several grape types, and how when blended, influence the wine's final taste. In retrospect, we probably learned more during this one tasting at Clos Du Val than we did during our entire trip to Napa. After the tasting, Alex took us to the back of the winery and allowed us to see the freshly picked grapes being unloaded from plastic bins and readied for crush. This was the perfect "final act" to a already great visit. Overall we can't say enough about our experience here and would like to once again acknowledge the great job done by Alex.

This was our 25th winery to visit on our 25th anniversary. A perfect way to end a vacation. We enjoyed both their white and reds. The winery is set against the hills on the 'wine trail' road. A few reserved tables/couches are available but we just enjoyed time at the tasting bar

We got the best seats in the house facing the vineyards. Problem was there were too many fat flies around us and our wine glasses. It was hard to enjoy with flies around the entire time making this $75 tasting not worth it.

We stopped here by accident and loved it! No hassles to do a wine tasting when my husband doesn't drink! We were able to but a half bottle of wine and sit outside and enjoy the scenery! Heavenly view! Nice staff!!

We came here in Memorial Day. The grounds are beautiful. It was our second winery ever so we weren't sure what we were doing at that point, a man behind the counter showed us the ropes. We drank, had a glass by the vineyards and went on. The cabanas look wonderful to reserve.

We picked up a picnic from a nearby store and visited the Clos Du Val. We bought a great bottle of wine from the vineyard and sat on their picnic tables to have our lunch. We all loved it. We were so lucky with the weather too. Not a cloud in the sky. So memorable.

Our pourer, Fred definitely made this a Great experience for us. He was so friendly, warm, knowledgeable and NICE! Not at all snobbish or condescending.
Fred took us through each of the wines; my fave was the '97 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which was, unfortunately, $125. eeeeks. The Petit Verdot was interesting too.
But we managed to find a wonderful decanter (Soiree) which made our reds noticeably YUMMIER. Omg.
The tasting room was Packed and there were a lot of people...but if you are lucky enough to snag Fred as your pourer, he'll take care of you. Beautiful grounds too.

We decided to squeeze in one last tasting for the day and we made the stop at Clos Du Val. I work in the wine and spirits industry and had emailed ahead and their hospitality director informed us we could get 2 free tastings at the bar upon arrival.
Rosie was our hostess and she took good care of us as we tasted through the 2 different menus they were offering that day. We enjoyed some of the wines and some not as much. All in all our experience was very good and we had a great time.

I recognize I will be in the minority here. I am a reviewer who visited Napa but is not a huge fan of wine tastings. I'm a wine enthusiast who has lived in France but I am too much of a cheapskate to really enjoy myself in a winery setting. I just don't enjoy the sales pressure even if the host has a light touch. 1-2 tastings over the course of a weekend, that I can manage.
So this will be a bit of a cynic's review.
We rented bikes that came with a map indicating Clos du Val was friendly to walk-ins. It seems that information may have been out of date. Since recent renovations, they operate on a reservation basis like most of the other wineries. Not knowing this, we showed up unannounced. They took a moment to figure out if they were going to have room for us, and then did accommodate us very nicely.
We tried one flight. The hostess seemed decently knowledgeable, but later I learned this winery has undergone some big changes in winemaking philosophy recently, and none of that was part of the presentation. If the goal is to understand the wines all the way from the source, I would like to know the whole story. As a bonus she did pull off an extra taste from an older, higher end bottle using the Coravin, the device that lets you pour wine without uncorking it. Since another tasting room offered this to us too, I am thinking it is what the wineries are doing these days.
It's a big facility but since this was not a tour, we were only shown the tasting room, which is big (maybe 30' square), high-ceilinged, bar along two sides, frankly I found it a little cold. Out front there is a nice garden area, display of different grapevine varieties and an outhouse.
We bought a few bottles to have shipped home. As is typical out there, if you buy then your tasting fee will be waivedârather worthwhile if you ask me. They ended up keeping my credit card by mistake. When I called an hour later, they hadn't found it, so I cancelled it. They called back a few hours after that to say they had found it after all. SORRY! Since getting home, I have noticed the way that merchants are so careful to hand your card back promptly and explicitly. This seems to be Merchandising 101, particularly if your clients are drinking.
Bottom line, we had a good experience but it was hardly life-changing. I don't want to criticize too much because they fit us in without a reservation.

The wines were average. The place was crowded, so others must think the wines were great. The tasting room servers were friendly and knowledgeable. It's on Silverado Trail, which makes it one of the easier wineries to get to (not as much traffic).

Our wine pourer was nice and the property is attractive. The wines are not bad for the price. There was one wine that we and the couple we were traveling with all liked and we each bought a bottle. When we got back to the hotel we noticed she sold us a 2010 instead of the 2009 we tried. Everyone knows 2010 was not as good a year in Napa in general, and it's either a mistake or just dishonest. Needless to say, with so many amazing wineries in Napa, we will not be back.

My wife and I tasted wine and we ended up buying some wine. The retired part-time employee was very friendly and very helpfull. This was a nice place to visit because it was not crowded like some vineries.

We enjoyed going to the very pretty Clos Du Val Winery. We tasted their wines from the Stags Leap and Carneros Vineyards. They have been in the area for over 40 years. We also enjoyed our picnic lunch here.

A must visit! Pre-book the social circle, the staff are very knowledgeable and wines are simply delicious! The property is stunning, a must see!

My wife and I recently visited and did a private wine tasting (with Rosie). We had an excellent experience, Rosie was awesome, and we joined the wine club. The building and grounds are beautiful and the wine is excellent.

As a member of this winery, I am a little biased to this place. But, I think that my experience tasting around the region emphasizes that this is one of my favorite memberships. The staff is great, friendly, and down to earth. Nic is our favorite host so make sure to request him for your tasting!

In Napa and looking for a winery to visit, then look no further than Clos Du Val. An excellent property nestled off of Silverado Trail just a short 6 miles outside downtown Napa, this winery offers and excellent selection of vintages for all palates. Dan was our tour guide on this wine adventure and really made the experience wonderful for us and our friends. It was one of the most enjoyable of our time in Napa and one that you should definitely visit. He also gave us a great recommendation for another winery to visit, and that one turned out to be excellent as well. So, a big thumbs up to Clos Du Val; a must visit in Napa!

My wife and I came to this winery just for a tasting, and Nik was thoroughly enjoyable, stepping us through a number of vintages, contrasting the different regions the grapes came from, and the subtleties that result. He was very informative, and a lot of fun. Oh, and the wine was outstanding. We are looking forward to what the wine club will bring us. Thank you Nik!!

The wines were underwhelming and the pours were the smallest I've ever had (in visiting 50+ wineries). They use the shot pour devices found in bars. Indifferent service, forgettable wine.

This was our first stop. I don't drink but my husband had the tasting. What a classy friendly staff. They were very helpful in their recommendations of wine and food in the area. It was also clean!!

Our first stop on a Platypus Wine Tour bus, and we couldn't have picked a better way to start the day. Jim was our host and gave us a private tasting in the room with the large metal tanks. He took the time to explain the proper way to taste wine, and what we learned was amazing . And to top it off, the 4 wines we tasted were great, and reasonably priced for CA wines. The winery and tasting room are also very nice.

What a wonderful experience with Sarah who took us around the grounds and explained the wine and the history of the place perfectly. It was such an enjoyable and memorable experience.

We booked a private tasting on my 50th birthday with two other couples. They were OK that one of us didn't drink wine so they didn't charge him although he was there for everything including the discussion about the history of the winery. Rosie was our host and she rocks! Very friendly and personable, made the tasting fun yet informative. You can tell she really likes her job, ask for her if you book a private tasting. You get to try 5 wines, starting with a Chard, a Pinoit, a Merlot, the Cab, and then the Reserve Cab. The Cab and Reserve Cab are awesome. Because it was my 50th birthday Rosie broke out a 1995 Cab Reserve and poured to our hearts content! I feel like we really learned a lot, had fun, and best of all tried really great wine. Not too much sales pressure to join the wine club because frankly we wanted to join anyway. We left with two Clos Du Val wine glasses as well. I highly recommend tasting at Clos Du Val, you won't be sorry. Also, the grounds are very beautiful and you can do private tastings either inside or outside under some beautiful canopies.

We decided to stop here for a tasting (and to sit outside with our cheeses) and had a great time. This is a busier, well known winery, but we got lucky and had one of the winemakers pouring for us who had been there since the beginning. He was so informative and took us out to the vines to give us a great education. Wines were good, and we bought a couple of bottles, but I tend to prefer the "off the beaten path" types. The winery itself was beautiful, and a great place to stop with a picnic.

Many friendly, talkaive pourers and a lot of friendly people were here when I visited. Nice wine and great experience tasting and learning. I'll have to say that this is one of the most beautiful wineries in Napa Valley in my opinion, Tasting fees are low for what you receive. Easy to find on Silverado Trail road, and easy to park. A joyful experience made special by the enthusiatic employees.

Just visited in September. The wine was good, customer service was great (he took the time and gave us a little bit of history of the winery) the property was so beautiful. I would definitely return.

The host was very informative, we had just dropped in after a round of golf as we were driving by. It was my first tasting of the day, but nothing stood out as a need to have here. That's not saying YOU won't enjoy the wines, they just were not my cup of tea.

One of my favorite wineries out in the Napa Valley, Clos du Val is a great stop on the Silverado Trail. It has a beautiful view of its vineyards from the tasting room, which is nice and open and doesn't feel overcrowded. You can roam the vineyards, sit an relax, or just keep on tasting - especially if you're a wine club member. The staff is friendly and attentive, but give you time to taste and doesn't make you feel the least bit rushed. The wines are delicious, reliable, and noteworthy. My favorites are their cabs and red blends like the Three Graces. Some of their more common varietals can be found in stores, but taking the trip to try the others is well worth it. After several trips out to Napa, Clos du Val is still one of my faves and I love being a wine club member.

Tasting was great. Exciting to the palate. My friend is a member and we enjoyed siting in one of the cabanas and enjoyed our picnic. They also brought in the snacks. Take time to enjoy the sites, company and the wine. The pourer was a delight.

We had a wonderful wine tasting experience at CDV. The setting is just beautiful. We started out with a white wine on the patio then all assembled for a brief, unexpected tour. There was cab processing occurring as this was during harvest so our host took us briefly through the back area then outside to watch the fresh grapes being processed. We learned quite a lot and appreciated that experience. We then all adjourned to the beautiful tasting room for a leisurely experience. All the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We were first time visitors to Napa, on our first day and probably asked a lot of basic questions but we were not made to feel dumb at all. I would fully recommend this winery.

Stopped here while visiting Napa Valley and glad we did! Great tasting room on beautiful grounds. We arrived and Matt made us feel right at home. He was welcoming and very informative.
After a lounging time of tasting and visiting with Matt, he was kind enough to take us around back to see the destemming process in action. Very cool experience. My wife and I enjoy the knowledge of the process and nuances as much as the actual tasting. Not only were the wines great (Petite Verdot and Cab Franc are standouts) Matt made our experience very personable.
Thank you. We will be back soon!

. We love Clos Du Val wine anyway, but our presenter was very interesting and informative. Had a lovely wine tasting and bought several bottles to enjoy later. One of our top 10 wineries in Napa.

The property is stunning and provides tremendous photo opportunities. The Cabernet was our favorite we had in Napa. Clos du Val is a must-do when winery hopping through the valley.

Our criteria: Napa, Top Tier, Dog-Friendly. Solution? Clos Du Val.
The new tasting room and adjacent outdoor patio are incredible -- a perfect location to relax with a wonderful tasting and a happy dog. Let's hit the main points of this incredible winery tasting:
1) The setting. The vineyard, the mountains, the facility. Nothing compares to the beauty of Napa and the exceptional architecture and style of the visionary wine makers.
2) The wine. Clos Du Val wines are exceptional. From the greeting of chardonnay, the added bonus of a newly bottled Pinot Noir rose -- and then through the red tasting from Pinot to Merlot to Cabernet Franc to Cabernet Sauvignon to the extra special Bordeaux-style blend, every wine was outstanding.
3) The expertise and service. Craig took personal care of us and did an amazing job of making us feel welcome, learn more about the winery and share his love of Napa and Clos Du Val.
4) The dog stuff. No fuss, just a chance for the dog to relax in the shade (on leash). Big bowl of water and a nap.
Great idea (and thank you to our daughter). Highly recommend and looking forward to enjoying the wines we purchased (NB, each purchase of two bottles comped the wine tasting; so we bought enough to completely refund the price of the visit.)

Had appointment & was greeted well and we had a host to ourselves. One of our party is a member, so tasting was free. The host was very nice. Very knowledgeable. Worth a try. Tasting Room is very nice, but wish there was a place to sit.

TIPS
--There are two areas for picnics: outside by the vines, and under the shade by the bathrooms
--Bathrooms by parking lot (separate building)
--Cheap white wines (not sure if you get tasting comped with purchase, so might be good idea to just by a bottle and skip tasting)

The tasting room is nice and wasn't busy during our tasting but could feel small at a busy time. The tasting was good and staff was willing to adjust a few of the tastings based on your preferences. A good stop for non-expensive high quality Cabernet while in Napa.

I liked the wines here but it was a bit more of a cold clinical feel in the front room but was made aware that it was under construction so a lot of the display wines were moved out of the tasting area

We chose this winery as our first pit stop in Napa based on the reviews and the winery offerings. The visit was very good including wine tasting and picnic lunch at their premises. The wines are good and we bought two locals - a syrah and a cabarnet sauvignon. Not to say that we finished both of them during our lunch in their well maintained garden :)

The new tasting room is modern with lots of cozy seating both inside and out. The wines are also exceptional. A lovely stop for a tasting.

Their wines are very good, but not worth the prices they charge. The tasting experience was wonderful, and our host, Nikko, was fantastic.

Beautiful grounds. We skipped the tasting and bought half a bottle of wine to share to enjoy at the tables outside by the vineyards

This was BY FAR my favorite place in Napa! It's gorgeous, it's fun, the wine is fantastic the people there are friendly, fun, Knowledgeable and passionate! We loved it! Romantic or just fun with friends Clos Du Val cannot be missed!

Clos Du Val manufactures a consistent good wine, within the Napa Valley...

We rented bikes at Napa Valley Bike Tours and rode to this winery, perhaps a 4 easy mile ride. They have nice bike racks to lock up your bikes. The winery is lovely, with vines growing on pretty much every exposed surface of the building. The picnic area, the olive grove, is lovely and a wonderful place to sit and eat lunch. They don't serve food, but we bought sandwiches in Yountville. We had a nice lady named Aez pour for us, and she was delightful and informative. One wine we really loved was their Pinot Verdot, which is somewhat unusual. The vintage we tasted had just been released. Out front is a section of vineyard with labels about what type of grapes, what type of trellis was in use, and what type of training the farmers were using for each row. Each row was different, and I enjoyed seeing all different methods of trellising and training the grape vines. They had been harvested when we were there, but were still growing and green. My wife and I are veterans, and our tasting was complimentary, so we returned and bought two bottles of the Verdot after our bike ride. Excellent experience all around, and I would recommend this winery to anyone into wine tasting.

A group of 5 of us stopped in, something not all the wineries in the Valley will now do. Our wine expert offered us 3 options and we chose all 3 and shared. Plus she let us try several of their cellar collections and we were able to purchase some wine.
Prices keep going higher for tasting but this winery seemed to have a fair amount on them. Just not something for nothing like back in the good old days.

Went on a weekday morning, only a few people out and about here. Very picturesque building and grounds. The young man int the tasting room was very friendly and helpful, but kept yawning. Lol. Enjoyed the wines very much. Didn't purchase as we were headed out of town and really didn't find a favorite.

We were looking for a vineyard to enjoy some wine and food at lunchtime which is surprisingly difficult in the Napa Valley. Almost none of the vineyards have restaurants and only a few have picnic areas. Anyway we were recommended to go to Clos Du Val and what a fantastic recommendation. We picked up a picnic from Bouchon Bakery and headed to the vineyard for lunch. It is a beautiful setting with an ivy clad building and immaculate grounds. You can picnic on the lawn or under the trees providing you either buy a bottle of wine or have a tasting which is fair enough. We bought a delightful bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and sat on the lawn. The staff were the best we have come across at any vineyard in Napa knowledgeable friendly welcoming and proud of their vineyard. I wish we could have done a tasting because they seemed to be doing a brilliant job of it. If we ever return to Napa this will be first on our list to visit

Our experience was fantastic. Jim was our host and made our experience of the winery very information and delightful!

My wife and I only booked a by-the-glass tasting at Clos du Val, but we were made to feel like honored guests from the moment we arrived.
We were warmly welcomed and seated in a lovely outdoor tasting area. The surroundings are stunning â beautifully maintained grounds and a property that clearly reflects care and passion. The buildings are modern yet full of character, with thoughtful details like wall panels made from old oak casks adding a personal touch.
The wines were the true highlight. We started with the Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc âfresh, well-rounded, and very easy to enjoyâfollowed by a smooth and satisfying Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. These were served alongside delicious bread and an incredible homemade pesto, which paired beautifully with both wines.
We then moved on to a crisp, balanced RosĂ© of Cabernet Franc, and ended with the âYettalil,â a red blend from the Stags Leap District, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon. It was exceptional â elegant and full of depth, with a lovely balance of fruit and acidity. Definitely one for special occasions!
Overall, a memorable experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Napa!

Great Winery reasonable priced, always worth to visit, good selection of wines and tasting is always an experience great team.

Beautiful winery, very friendly staff and most important, absolutely delicious wine. Will be purchasing the Pinot Noir online when I get home!

My husband and I stopped here as the last winery of the day. We loved sitting outside on the patio. The wine was great and so was the service. We would definitely recommend.

Charming and affordable wines. Staff extremely friendly. You were not rushed. Very relaxing atmosphere

I visited 12 wineries and this one had the most down to earth staff. Also for the price point, the quality was above average. Get the higher end tasting and you will not be disappointed. Staff recommended a nice cafe. Look forward to the club shipments!

Napa is amazing and there are SO many options for wine tasting that there's just no reason for going to a place like Clos du Val. For $40 you get 4 tiny sips of wine with a sales pitch about how great they are. Pretentious, boring and expensive. Our least favorite stop.

We loved the friendly service here and aside from all of the wines being excellent, our tasting room attendant gave us a very nice educaiton about the wines and even shared with us his knowledge of some wines in Italy. It was near closing time when we tasted and never felt rushed or pressured to leave. :)

My husband and I first went to Clos Du Val in 2011, we really enjoyed the tasting and the beautiful grounds. This year we made a point to go back when we were in the Napa area, the experience was just as pleasant. What I love about Clos Du Val in general is their open and friendly manner, they are not to 'big' to care and they truly out effort into providing a enjoyable wine tasting experience. Next time we go back we'll definitely be stopping at this winery again.

I love Bubbles, an unexpected surprise to fine the 40th Anniversary Bubble at Clos Du Val so good. The tasting was a treat the Staff did a wonderful job in helping you appreciate the rich history of the wine making tradition at Clos Du Val. I say if you live any where near Napa in a 200 mile radius sign up for the club and plan your trips to Napa around wine club events and pick-ups. There are great values and big FUN to enjoy!

Located at the south end of the Napa valley, Clos Du Val winery produces excellent wines from the Stags Leap district of the Napa Valley. The winery features a very nice, shaded, olive grove picnic area. Our tasting experience was quite enjoyable, and unpretentious ... even after I declared my distaste for Pinot Noir. We bought a couple of their 2006 Estate bottled wines which will mature in about 6-7 years. I actually love the taste NOW ! The only notable disappointment is that the tasting fee is not waived with the purchase of wine - most unusual for Napa Valley tasting rooms.

We came here for a wine tasting in early April 2015 with my fiancée and her friend. Our uber driver recommended it and we decided to give it a try. It was $25 per person for four samples, slightly expensive like most places in the Napa region. The gentleman doing our tasting had a bit of a dry sense of humor, slightly annoying and not real funny. We thought the wine was ok, nothing fantastic. We went on our way with other stops that were more enjoyable. Probably wouldn't come back as there are much better wineries to choose from.

Great vineyard. We were given a tour of the winery and loved the fact that the staff wasn't annoyed by our very basic questions!

Nice Property, with great views. The property had a large patio and cabanas that are reserved for VIP tasting.
The tasting room was fairly small and there was a feeling of move them in and move them out. The young man that was serving the four of us was nice enough, but clearly just there to poor their wine, he even had to check a text on his cell phone twice in the brief time we were there.
The wine fair to midland in my opinion, not worth the stop.

Pretty typical/average winery; I don't actually remember much about this place, but I do know they had one of the most balanced -- rosés (a rosé of pinot noir) I have had -- not too sweet, not too crisp/dry/tart.

We arrived just as the winery was opening for the day and so we were the only ones in the tasting room. The young man who led our tasting was very friendly and very knowledgeable. The setting is beautiful and we left wishing we could bring more wine home to Canada.

Great views, interesting architecture and great wines. Try the Syrah. They are part of the Codorniu family (very commercial cava brand form Catalonia Spain) but I we were very please with the quality of the wines. Excellent and very friendly service.
Winery is great
Great winery, very knowledgable staff. Reasonable prices on wine. This is a great stop in Napa on your tour.
