A must-see when in Chicago, it was one of the first things we saw during our time there. Definitely a fascinating piece of art that is visually appealing and also fun to take funny photos in haha
Shops nearby also sell key rings, magnets, shot glasses and more of Cloudgate if you're looking for something to remember your time in chicago!

Very interesting piece. Loved to take lots of pictures. It was very busy. Took a while to get inside Millennium park but this was amazing.

This stop is always worth the time. Tons of great options for photos - outside and underneath. Plus the surrounding park is very nice with great access to downtown activities.

A shame it was under construction. A beautiful work of art that could be appreciated from a distance. There was no shortage of opportunities to see her again.

The area around was so much fun. Take time to look around. The area called faces was very impressive.

This is a truly inspired public art installation. It reflects the surrounding architecture, gardens and people and invites everyone to strive for unique “selfies”. We were there before 10:00 a.m. and it was already quite crowded and hot. On a hot summer day, the bright reflections must make this area uncomfortably warm. Fortunately, you can scurry back into the nearby shady gardens to cool off.

A must see on your trip to Chicago. It was fun taking pictures of and with the bean. We went early so there wasn't too many people.

Iconic, over-rated, "Bean". Way too crowed. Cloud Gate is a better and more accurate name! Stay at a distance and admire the reflected clouds.

Walking around and under the "Bean" is really cool. Looking at eth distortion while you walk can actually make you dizzy.

Cool sculpture in Millennium Park. If you have never gotten out of your car to view the bean, I recommend a visit. It was very busy on a gorgeous weekday around noon. There were security stations set up at the various entrances. We felt completely safe. It was midday. We walked to the lake all the way up to Navy Pier and back to Michigan Avenue to board an architectural tour boat. It is a lovely area.

Just really cool to experience! Never expected it to be as big as it was or how cool the reflections are. We went twice since it was so close to our hotel and went at a busy and not busy time. A must see and you don't have to be there long.

I was a really nice place to see and we got some good photos. The only negative was Joe busy it was but we couldn't really do anything. We went during the day and then went back later and it was much quieter, however I thought the photos were better during the day.

It is an interesting and fairly simple piece of art. Many of the smaller pieces nearby in the park are equally if not more impressive. Definitely worth a visit

Beautiful view of the city. Not too crowded. Great place for taking photos. Close to concert pavilion.

This is actually really cool to just stare at the way it reflects and distorts the city and people around it. Constructed between 2004 and 2006, it's made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together and polished so it has no visible seams.
The design was inspired by liquid mercury and you actually walk right up and under it. In fact, the lower 6 feet are windexed twice a day and the entire sculpture is cleaned twice a year with 40 gallons of Tide.
The final cost of the sculpture came in at $23 million, a bit more than the projected $6 million but it is expected to last 1000 years.

Silly how a reflective object could be fun. We just keep walking around the bean taking photos of ourselves. LOL

It’s nothing spectacular. I guess it’s one of those things you have to say you saw in Chicago. It won’t leave you in awe or particularly inspired.

It's free and a great spot to get pictures from every side...and bottom. We happened to visit during a gospel music festival in the park so it was a bit crowded.

My wife and i came here to check it out. Its a very cool experience. People were everywhere as it was a beautiful day but we were still able to see our reflections and enjoy the park.

Stoped by millennium park to see ‘the bean’. I had seen it before but couldn’t walk by without seeing it again. It is very impressive in person and is great to see up close. The surrounding park is lovely to walk round on a sunny day, there are many other sculptures. Do be prepared for the crowds, I’d recommend going at the start or the end of the day for the fewest people in you’re pictures.

beautifully designed specially the atmosphere was so good when ever i visit this place love to get more n more selfy.

The bean is magical, its smooth curves reflect the excellent Chicago skiyline. There is something hypnotic that attracts hundreds of people to admire this sculpture and that includes me!

In August 2024, the bean had just been freshly polished and shone in its new glory. Crowds are probably always here. In the late afternoon it was really crowded but you could still take pictures and go for a walk.

When I first viewed "the Bean", correctly named Cloud Gate, 15 years ago, I was underwhelmed and didn't understand all the fuss. Over time, I have learned to appreciate this public work of art. The reflective nature of the artwork is quite beautiful and the concave chamber inside that multiplies reflections is really cool. The much-photographed piece of art has now become an iconic part of Chicago. It, Millennium Park and adjacent Grant Park with its Buckingham Fountain is well worth seeing during a visit to Chicago. My only negative comment is that it is always mobbed with visitors which detracts from the experience. I suppose it could be fun to be part of the excitement when it is busy, but I would try to visit very early in the morning especially if you want to get some good photos. Even though it is all the good things I describe above, it really doesn't deserve the amount of attention that it ends up getting.

Not edible:(((((( I was really hungry so I wanted to get beans. I searched beans and this place got good reviews but it didn't have food. I was sungry (sad & hungry).

It was an amazing piece of art. Great area and fun atmosphere. Definitely recommended if you never been to Chicago. Its a big beautiful park.

Paris has its Eiffel Tower, New York its Statue of Liberty and Chicago its famous "Bean".
This perfectly smooth 110-ton work by Anish Kapoor is a total success.
I won't elaborate any further. .. The best thing is to go there to take exceptional photos... in the middle of an intense crowd!

Much cooler than I thought! It was easy to access and very cool to see the reflection of the city and a too! Fun photo op. It is easy to pair with the other local attractions. No need to spend long here

This outdoor sculpture and art piece was quite stunning. Bright in color and sparingly in the hot sun. It is displayed in a square in the center of town. Looks a bit like a whale. A popular spot.

Public art providing interesting perspectives on surroundings. Best to not visit on a weekend (too crowded). Good places to sit, relax and “people watch”.

Not sure this is mandatory destination. If you want local art, go see some murals in Pilsen. This is cool, but hardly reflects the city, regardless how mirror-like

This is a nice stop while at Millennium Park, even at night because of the great reflections. The Bean was surrounded by people but you didn’t feel crowded.

The “bean” as they call it is really neat to see up close and personal. The reflections are quite interesting and make for cool photos. Also found it interesting that it is not hot to the touch. Definitely worth checking out if in Chicago.

Inside millenium park, try to make it in the evening when the sun is setting, and you get to see the skyline and the beautiful colors in the sky reflected on the dome. Surrounded by benches so you can rest and enjoy the dome if walking around the area.

The rating has to do with the fact that access was closed and will be closed until 2024. Works could be finished sooner.

We visited the Bean, since it is now open again after being renovated. The surrounding sidewalk is new and refurbished. It is a free attraction and a modern icon of Chicago’s lakefront. I recommend a visit. It is interesting to take photos of the reflecting images and skyscrapers of the Chicago skyline.

This is an amazing sculpture called "The Bean" but officially known as CLOUD GATE. GO take snaps...you will love it...then after go to Chicago's HUGE fine arts museum just next door.

"The Bean" is a must-see when visiting Chicago. It's located in beautiful Millennium Park. The park has concerts, gardens, and artwork.

It is definitely very cool to see and coming to Chicago for the first time, this was high on my list of places I wanted to see. It was very cool! However, due to all the covid restrictions, you cannot get close to it. which was a little disappointing. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds!

May be cliche, but worth it. Place is nice, great views of the surrounding buildings and it is kind of mesmerizing to see the “bean”.

This is a fun installation with photo opportunities. Absolutely packed. It looks like a giant silver jelly bean. The reflective surface makes for fun pics.

For a huge shiny bean, it was pretty cool. Trying to find yourself in the reflection and then taking pics with the kids make it worth it. Plus, it's a landmark that you have to say you've seen when in Chicago.

Well, "life ' happened to me. it was under construction for remodeling till Spring. well, you can't get everything. Nevertheless, I did catch a glimpse of it from some distance.
The Bean is a work of public art in the heart of Chicago. It was constructed in Millennium Park between 2004 and 2006 as part of a design competition, created by British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor.
The sculpture, which is officially titled Cloud Gate, is one of the world’s largest permanent outdoor art installations. The monumental work was unveiled in 2004 and quickly became one of Chicago’s most iconic sights.
The Bean’s reflective surface was inspired by liquid mercury. This shiny exterior reflects the people moving around the park, the lights of Michigan Avenue, and the surrounding skyline and green space — perfectly encapsulating the Millennium Park experience. The polished surface also invites visitors to touch the surface and observe their reflection, giving it an interactive quality.
One might wonder how it was built - well here you go- The exterior of The Bean is made entirely of stainless steel (weighs 110 Ton). It was created using computer technology to precisely cut 168 massive steel plates, which were then fitted together and welded shut for a completely seamless finish.
Fact: The Bean receives a power wash each day and a deep cleaning twice each year. During the deep clean, workers use nearly 40 gallons of detergent to bring the metallic surface back to its mirrored state.

Our tour guide also called this the bean - it was a great place to visit and just relax and take it all in!

A must-see when visiting Chicago. The "Bean" was a lot bigger in person. It was neat seeing my reflection as I walked around and under it.

We go around to admire the reflection of the neighboring buildings and our broth marked by surprise. It's beautiful from near and far.

Did you even visit Chicago if you don’t stop at Cloud Gate for a photo? I think not. Fun 15-30 minute spot to walk the park and take some photos.

The masterpiece of artist Anish Kapoor, located in Chicago Millennium Park. Mind blowing, a masterpiece, an example of intelligence and creativity. Be sure to explore your path. You will already see this work, which is positioned at the most central point of the city. Watch that impressive beauty as reflections of the park, the skyscrapers, the hundreds of people there, and of course yourself. take photos. The artist named his work Cloud Gate. People called it bean because of its appearance. I think it is the most important symbol of this city. Enjoy

Another great landmark to visit. In a great area surrounded by museums, it is easy to walk to everything. Can easy spend the whole day in that area.

Amazing to see, how shiny this sculpture is.
You could clearly see your own reflection; even when taking pictures.
You should see it, while in town.
And hey: it’s for free!!

It was under renovation but it's still worth trying to get up close and see a beautiful work of art... where you can see your image in it

The bean was cool to see, it is very much a iconic Chicago sight. You really don’t need more then 10-15 min to get your fun pictures. There are tons of people so trying to get a photo, so trying to get a picture without people is next to impossible.

It only takes 15 minutes to explore this iconic landmark. It's an enchanting interactive and not to be missed landmark.

This piece of public art is intriguing and entertaining. It’s a thrill to see, to photograph and to experience.

I saw the Cloud Gate or "The Bean", when I walked through Millennium Park. This is a Chicago icon, great place for photos and gatherings. When I went I was able to see it with ease, there were not big crowds, I was able to explore the whole landmark. The whole visit lasted around 10 minutes, enough time to walk through landmark. The Cloud Gate is worth at least one visit.

The bean is a cool structure and it was fun to see the skyline and ourselves reflected in it. Millennium Park is beautiful, I loved the gardens. There isn't a lot to do there but it was an enjoyable 10 minutes or so to see it.

I was amazed by the sight and shocked about the the history of the Bean. It’s a must see.Advice -go underneath to take a picture -it looks cool

Go day and night to see the difference. Saturday was very crowded but we found Monday morning to be the quietest…in fact we had it to ourselves!! So many photos taken…just loved it there. They were setting up the ice rink and putting up the Christmas tree too….

It’s a beautiful piece of work, but right now it is being repaired and has a large fence around it. Check online when it is reopened, although you can see it from a distance.

Having seen other examples of Anish Kapoor’s work I was looking forward to seeing this whilst on a self guided walk of Grant and Milennial Parks.
Whilst it is a classic example of his work it was super crowded with tourists and thus hard to appreciate.
We should have gone first thing in the morning, lesson learnt

There is a reason why this is so popular: it is a fun marvel that puts a smile on everyone's face. After you take your photos and cruise under and around it, you will want to learn who designed it and how in the world did they achieve this engineering and architectural marvel.
It was dreamy to wander, after exploring The Bean, to experience the Chicago Symphony rehearsing in the Jay Pritzker Pavillon. It was a moving and delightful way to spend an hour with free divine music included.!

The great Indian artist Anish Kapoor made this great sculpture that stands in the beautiful Millennium park . A must to go when in Chicago . Take a photo from every possible angle.

An amazing structure, Went to it a few times. Very crowded on , Saturday, Labor Day weekend. Tuesday after, able to take photos without anyone else in it. Shape reflects surroundings and repetitive reflections. Well worth visiting

Like I mentioned, this piece of art attracts a lot of tourist, but no doubt is it amazing to look at. It is incredibly hard not to take the obligatory selfie in front of it or under it! I would suggest visiting during the week in the morning, when crowds are low.

There were a lot of people there when we went. I was still able to get lots of great pictures. The view of the skyline is great in the reflection.

Must see if you are in the area. Reflection of the city is beautiful but don’t forget to walk underneath! It is mesmerizing!

Just think of how many pictures can you get in this place. This is probably one of the most visited monuments in Chicago and it is totally justified, as the Cloud (or bean, beanbag or kidney) is really a masterpiece of Modern Art

You have to stop! Beautiful - crowded when we were there but you need to take a pic! The park itself was a much bigger surprise to me in this huge city.

A very unique piece of art! A full 360 experience. A great reflection on Chicago😁 Prime spot in the city.

"Bean" here before and I just love how this is such a landmark whenever I go to Chicago. I love photographing it from different angles, & different times of the day. Don't forget a "mirror" picture underneath it!

Even on a heavily overcast day, it was just a pleasure to visit Millennium Park and -- before seeing many other attractions there -- to say Well, Hello Again! to Cloud Gate, that is always as gorgeous as a beautiful cloud in summer.
There were a lot of visitors in the park, and since Cloud Gate is very close to S Michigan Ave, for many it is very often the first stop at this unique sculpture, which is quite photogenic, at that. Besides taking photos of the sculpture itself, it is also very exciting to see the Chicago skyline, peculiarly reflected on the convex surface of the sculpture, as well as to have a look at your own unrecognizable image on the Cloud ... !
Big Thanks to the designer of Cloud Gate -- the very talented sculptor Anish Kapoor -- and to all the developers for giving us such fun and joy!

Every time we see Cloud Gate we are blown away, the reflections are incredible and it draws everyone in like a magnet

We were lucky that the Bean was reopened a few days before our visit. Very very busy but certainly a must in Chicago

For years, I anxiously waited a trip 2 Chicago, 1st stop on my wish list "The Bean", Millennium Park. Imagine my disappointment as I approached the "Cloud Gate" 2 find it totally surrounded by high, plastic fencing! So much 4 photos but rather than miss the opportunity I climbed up a concrete fixture 2 snap a few before the local security noticed me. Not a way 4 the best view. No info. was available explaining when the fencing would B removed or IF it ever.

Really interesting modern sculpture in an incredible setting…..I bet concerts here are incredible but we also enjoyed the tranquility in a high octane city

It was crowded in the area, but it is definitely something a visitor to Chicago should experience. It was surprisingly neat!

The bean was so cool! Loved the View from both sides. When the park is reflected in the building skyscrapers are in the background but from the other side it was really cool to see the sky scrapers reflected in the bean. All the reflections from beneath was also incredible! I felt 100% safe.

I don't know what it is about this bean but it's fun to walk under and around it. For whatever reason, it draws people like a magnet. It's a must see if you are visiting downtown Chicago.

It’s amazing to think that the bean comprises lots of individual highly polished sheets but you’d never know it just looking at it. It an amazing public artwork, especially whacky if you try to walk underneath while looking ip at it. Best visit during the day as there are long lines after 6 for bag searches and body sweeps.

From afar we didn't realize where it was as it reflects everything around it. As we walked next to it, you can't help but be impressed by the design and appearance of the art work

Visited: 06/07/2023
Inside Millennium Park, this sculpture/artwork is affectionately nicknamed "The Bean". It is quite remarkable and we enjoyed trying to take pictures of ourselves in the reflective surface.
Can get hot when in the sun for a long time, so be careful on warm days. However, the underneath/gate of the sculpture is really cool and refreshing. It is a lot bigger than you realise and spcaious underneath as well.

I remember how divisive this sculpture was when it was revealed and made much fodder on the interwebs. In person, it's a pretty impressive design especially with the fun house reflective properties, not to mention the size. This is now a must-see Chicago experience.

Every time I come to Chicago it is a must see just great how fun the different angles make you look in the pictures and all the different ways you can see yourself in the reflections, although it is hard to get good pics without a ton of other people in them. During the week it's way less crowded than on the weekends of course. We were there at 10:30 on a Friday and it was still pretty busy,
Great fun to have silly pictures as a good memory and the little ones love seeing themselves in the reflection they laugh and giggle

Great fun taking pictures here from all angles as we go smaller and smaller in the reflection.
The iconic skyline looked great too.
Couldn’t find any info about it and the website doesn’t work any more but then Chicago doesn’t have a tourist information center either …..

Just a great gathering spot for Chicagoans and visitors to the City.
The “Bean”is a lot of fun to look at, walk through, pose with for pictures and hang out around.
It has become an iconic symbol of Chicago and so you have to go visit when in the area.
Surrounded by parks, restaurants and more, the “Cloud Gate” is a great meeting point for many activities. The beauty of the piece itself is enough to enjoy, but interacting with all the people gathered, adds to the festive atmosphere.
Go and enjoy.
Joel & Rosalie...Delray Beach, FL

A must-see in Chicago Area and it's free. Be sure to take a Photo down the bean to enhance the experience.

This is Chicago's most visited tourist destination so it can get quit busy. Highly recommend going in the early morning when the park opens to beat all the crowds. We got great pictures this way.

We loved walking around the bean to view it from different angles. It was very busy early on, around 8am, I’m not sure what it’s like later but if you want crowd free photos, go early.

Any review with just words and photos will not do this piece of artwork any justice. I have been to Chicago so many times and never visiting the famous Bean that I made sure I scheduled some time to visit. I am glad I did. This piece of artwork is so interactive that I found myself walking around and through and towards and away from it for over 20 minutes. I probably could have spent more time finding different perspectives. Just stop reading this and go, you won't regret it!

Beautiful and interesting piece that can be viewed from a hundred different angles. It's a place for people-watching, too, but if you visit ten minutes before the Art Institute of Chicago opens, it's a great opportunity to see both the Crown Fountain and Cloud Gate in the Park.

Iconic Chicago! Lots of tourists crowded around it, but I’m glad I made sure my afternoon jog ran through Millennium Park. Beautiful blue skies make a difference!

Brilliant, just loved the reflection of the buildings and sky on the "Bean". Simple, free, with refreshments available locally. Can get very busy, so time your visit well. What's not to like. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately it is closed for renovation until spring 2024. A disappointment. If you want to visit it, come in a year.

A beautiful place to stroll, as always the “feijão” is the protagonist of the place, but now in August 2023 the flooring around it is being replaced, so the “feijão” is temporarily closed. But it's still worth a walk in the park 😍

A stunning site to visit in Millennium park
Good photo opportunity and on route to visit the museums etc

Fun little thing to visit! All kinds of weird shapes and sizes, great for photos and it is easy to get to and requires only a small investment of time!

If you’re visiting Chicago, you must stop at the iconic “bean”. While there isn’t much to do at the bean itself, it’s a great photo op and cool piece of art to admire.

Loved Chicago and all there is to do and see. Cloud gate was amazing at sunset! It was a little crowded because the weather was so nice!

Very cool to see the famous cloud gate. Free attraction inside the park. Highly recommended to see this when you are in Chicago. Lots of people and beware pick-pocketers. A must!

The bean is remarkably shiny. It’s kind of mesmerising even. It seems to always attract a lot of people taking selfies.
There’s a possibility to drink something or buy a snack, and the restrooms in the park were clean when I visited.

I enjoy visiting the Cloud Gate sculpture by Anish Kapoor, also known as The Bean. This shiny, reflective stainless steel structure pulls me to it. I like touching the smooth surface and looking at my reflection on it. It is a unique free activity and draws lots of visitors. The park is nice and there is a water feature called Crown Fountain. It is comprised of two towers which project video images of Chicago citizens and a fountain with a reflecting pool. The shallow reflection pool is amazing on a hot day as you can splash in it.
I have yet to visit the rest of the park or the Jay Pritzker Pavilion where performances are held. There is the Lurie Garden with different plants and visiting wildlife. Boeing Galleries in both the north and south ends of the park housing temporary exhibits. The Millennium Monument at Wrigley Square is an impressive semi-circular row of Doric-style columns. Wrigley Square has trees which provide shade for you to relax under. There are other attractions to visit. I look forward to exploring more of the park on my next visit.

I didn't think it would be as interesting as it is. We wandered all around it, taking photos from several angels. The center was fascinating.

Cloud gate also known as the bean. Is a free outdoor sculpture. It mirrors a reflection of what it faces. Tons of people at all hours of the day so get there mad early. My friends and I went before sunrise to beat the crowds.

Must visit if you come to Chicago. Worth a visit for a photo and memories to cherish. Great time with family!

Currently closed off for pavement construction, but you can still get a decent view of this piece of art. Pictures with clever angles can block out most fencing and vehicles. You really can only be disappointed if you are dead set on getting up close photos with it.

If in Millennial Park or the area it’s a must see.. at least once. It will definitely play on your eyes/brain. So cool to see.

A beautiful sculpture to visit to get some great photos of Chicago skykine in the reflection. We went in the morning and it wasn't too busy.

The Bean was smaller than I remember, but just as curvaceous and beautiful. Unfortunately, this time, The Bean and park surrounding, was fenced-off and there were lines (and an admission fee?) to get in. The public place seemed more controlled—which took off its shine. Guess it’s a “reflection” of the times in Chi-town.

Unique yet simple sculpture that sits in Millennium park. It is commonly referred to as the bean as it does appear to be shaped like a kidney bean. The sculpture appears to have been made from mirror like material which allows for the opportunity to achieve some cool photos. The crowds at the bean seem to be constant so do not expect to be able to get individual private pictures. Area around the sculpture is clean and well maintained. Underneath the sculpture provides some shade on hot days. A quick stop but worth a visit

A must see in downtown Chicago, fun place to walk around and take some pictures. There are lot of other things to see and do in the area, all walkable.

This is a fun bit of public art. It was a bit too crowded when we were there and I would recommend choosing a time when it might be less so. People love a photo op.

We stopped by early in the morning since this is an iconic part of Chicago. There are always a lot of people around, so keep that in mind! Easy to get to and right at the beginning of Millennium Park!

When Cloud Gate was first installed, of course, there was a lot of hubbub about it. I'm not one to do the trendy thing, so I waited a while. When I got there, I was impressed by the smooth, seamless surface, as many are. The city was reflected in the sculpture and it was beautiful.

It’s a giant silver jelly bean looking items that offers great opportunities for unique and fun photos of the city and yourself.

In the Pacific Museum there are many paintings and sculptures, in the second room there are paintings by Tenkate, Joseph Payen, and Hans Snel. In the ninth room there is a map of Bali

The cloud gate is just one of those things you have to do while visiting Chicago. Be prepared to be patient. There are so many people there. lol! Having others walk around while you take pics will be bound to happen.
Thera are photographers out there that will take pics for you. If you prefer to have the perfect shot.
It's located close to Michigan Avenue which has plenty of stores, eateries, museums, etc. . We parked in Millenium garage (underground parking). it's conveniently located for all the things we did that day.
This is such a staple piece in Chicago go get your pic!

Nice attraction in Chicago. Great place to take a few photos with your reflection in the Bean! Lots of things to do and places nearby to eat.

This huge bean - a giant mirror installation in the Millennium park quickly became one of the most recognized Chicago landmarks.
I don't know the meaning of it (if there's any), but it's really cool offering great views of downtown in curved reflections. One of top free attractions.

Cloud Gate is a must-see in Chicago. This iconic silver bean in Millennium Park reflects the city's energy and offers a unique interactive experience. Whether you're capturing distorted selfies or enjoying the skyline backdrop, it's a captivating symbol of Chicago's artistic charm.

Of course I've seen pics but seeing this in person is much better. I love the way the skyline is reflected in the sculpture and when you go under it and look up it looks like it goes on forever. Great selfie spot!

This is a fun place to take some unusual selfies, especially for kids. Don't expect to get any photos that only have your group in them, since it's a popular place and the Cloud Gate structure means you get all sorts of views of everyone who is there. It's out in the open and free for all, so just enjoy it for what it is, a unique piece of art that also involves you, the viewer.

Cloud Gate, or "The Bean," is a must-see attraction in Chicago. There's a reason so many people have taken their picture around it. But photos don't do it justice. You have to see it in person to truly appreciate the scale.

Myself and my wife recently visited Chicago to take part in the Marathon.
We had a few days to explore and had been recommended to get down to Millenium Park and have a look at "The Bean".
The centre of the city is really clear and easy to walk around and definately recommend a trip over to see this unusual piece of art.
There are great photo opportunities and just watching the effects of the light against the metal is really interesting.
Worth putting on your list of "things to do".

My wife and I visited Millennium Park and enjoyed seeing Cloud Gate, or “The Bean”. We saw various interesting reflections as we walked around it. It is definitely worth a visit when in downtown Chicago.

If there are 100 people in downtown Chicago, 50 of them them are here. It is a truly amazing people draw.

Visible in all the films set in Chicago, it is a must. Located in Millennium Park, the giant peanut reflects the city's skyscrapers.

Great Masterpiece ins tainless steel where it is impossible to see the welding. It is really incredible how they could have made this monument

Go early before the crowds and fingerprints. As you can see from the picture, it picks up reflections from the city's landscape. Go underneath, and it is a fantastic reflection of you and any others that are dead center underneath. It is the reason to go early.

This is a very unique sculpture, it really does look like a bean. The park is beautiful, and was not far from my hotel. Loved it.

It is delightful to see various reflections in "the bean," as most call the cloud gate. It's a modern sculpture that incorporates the visitor into its reflection and shape.

Impressive park—“The Bean” (Cloud Gate) makes everyone smile. Good restaurants nearby and you’ll love watching people romp in the unique fountain.

Cool piece of art in a beautiful setting in Millennium Park. You should go to say you’ve seen the bean. Great photo ops! Not too busy first thing in the morning.

City's iconic post card, you must stop at least for a picture. The Millenium Park is beautiful and this is part of the park's atraction.

The main request of our granddaughter was to see “The Bean”…mission accomplished. An icon easily accessed in the park. Parking is available right at the park; look for Millennium parking underground

Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, that is the centerpiece of Grainger Plaza at Millennium Park. Built between 2004-2006, the sculpture is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its shape. The design was inspired by liquid mercury and the highly polished surface reflects and distorts the city's skyline and clouds moving overhead. Visitors are able to walk around and under Cloud Gate's high arch and it is popular with visitors as a photo-taking opportunity.

The cloud gate statue is certainly interesting to look at and I'm sure even more interesting to photograph if you're serious about it. I truly don't understand the meaning behind it or why someone would create a large metallic jellybean shaped statue. But it's something.

If you are walking on Michigan Avenue between Randolph Street and Monroe Street in Chicago's Loop, you can't miss it. And, no, contrary to persistent rumor, there is absolutely no evidence that someone is living inside the bubble. It is Cloud Gate, more commonly known as The Bean, an extraordinary work of public art by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, one of the world's largest permanent outdoor art installations. Unveiled in 2006 after two years of construction, it sits above the McCormick Tribune Plaza at 201 East Randolph Street, the centerpiece of Grainger Plaza in Millennium Park, one of Chicago's most iconic sights, like the Picasso sculpture in Daley Plaza and Buckingham Fountain. The 110-ton elliptical, kidney-shaped sculpture is 66 feet long, 33 feet high and 42 feet wide. The design was inspired by liquid mercury and was created by using computer technology to precisely cut 168 massive stainless steel plates which were fitted together and welded shut for a completely seamless finish. Visitors can walk around and under Cloud Gate's 12-foot high arch. The surface offers a spectacular view of the city's skyline while giving a warped view of the viewers.

Just a really fun place to take pictures. It was pretty warm yesterday and the reflections showed beautifully in the sun.

Since this was our first visit to Chicago, we wanted to make sure that we stopped by the Cloud Gate (Bean) sculpture. We had thought that we would only be there for 10-15 minutes, but spent around an hour photographing the sculpture from different angles. The art is amazing, and lends to some really interesting photos. We visited around 8 AM and there was already a small crowd. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in Chicago.

It was fun to just people-watch while we were here…taking time to soak up the joy of so many happy families. There is plenty of space to move around and get all the photos you want.

Yes, we walked to the bean, just a few blocks from the river and easily accessible from the Loew’s Hotel. Great experience and fun place for a picnic.

The Cloud Gate is like a huge reflective coffee bean. It serves to distort the images and you can walk and take photos under it.

Unlike Loop artworks by Picasso, Chicago, Miro, and Calder that celebrate "the City of Chicago," two installations in Millennium Park and one in a park south of the Art Institute focus on "the people of Chicago," or more specifically "how the people of Chicago inhabit public spaces like parks." "Cloud Gate" (also called The Bean) is the most popular of these. The upper part of "the bean" reflects ALL of the surrounding city. The lower part reflects ALL of the people who enter the park and approach the sculpture. What is a city park? It is where countless people gather inside of a great city. People see themselves and others in their city. It's interactive. As you move closer, you change, those around you change, and the city changes. Everyone laughs and poses and smiles and photographs. The happy people of Chicago endlessly watch the people of Chicago being happy.

Iconic must-see during a visit to Chicago. Try to get a photo of your reflection in the “bean”. Crowded but I think that doesn’t detract from the experience.

Great park, offers lots of possibilities for everybody, from small children to adults. The mirroreffect of the bean is mesmerizing. Open for free.
Excellent to combine with a seaside walk to the Navy pier

We visited because we knew we "had to" but it turns out it's even better once you start walking around! You can walk around, and through... and don't forget to look up when you're in the middle. :)

Biked over to the Chicago bean, the kids had a great time getting their pictures taken. Fun picture momento.

Bucket list item checked off my list. A must see when visiting Chicago. It wasn't too crowded and you can take your picture at almost every angle.

Cloud Gate aka The Bean is a MUST SEE in Chicago! The reflective surfaces off of this large structure make for great photos. I would highly recommend going during the winter months as this had very low volume of people around due to the cold weather. Even with holiday fesitivities going on in the area we were able to get clear photos of me and my husband without too many people in the background. You can take selfies in the reflection of the structure and walk underneath it as well to get a different view. Such a fun tourist spot for couples, families, and friends!

Very cool to see in person and a great photo op. We visited in the winter and even though it was freezing it was worth braving the weather for a pic with The Bean.

It is under renovation. It even appears to be broken!! We tried to make a forum from afar… unfortunately!! But think on the bright side, you'll have to come back

Cool site and many areas to see. Time we when was more used as a shade for rain!
Chicago site to see in millennium park can expand to other sight of this park

you have to see this when in chicago. on of the top landmarks. and it is free, so it is best value compared to some other rip-offs.

It may seem odd but when we knew we were coming to Chicago this was the first attraction/ sight that came to mind.... and we loved seeing it in the flesh. It's as interesting and impressive as one imagines. Really cool photos to be had with the bean nd the cityscape in the background. We came past this a couple of times - late afternoon and it was absolutley heaving but 9am we almost had the bean to ourselves.

While a part of Millenium Park, it is great to see it has its own listing as this is such a great attraction for the city, in fact as much as a symbol for Chicago as any skyscraper. We visited multiple time because it is such a cool thing to see and it changes with weather and the people. I think that it is what is most impressive is the way it reflects what is already there in a different way, really cool idea for whoever thought of it. Again it is made for pictures so get plenty of them.

I lived in Chicago for 30+ years; left for 10 and came back Summer 2022 to enjoy the city again. I was here when the city was planning, building and finally opened Millennium Park. Back then, the foliage and plants needed to grow roots the fill in. Let me tell you by 2022 the perennials are full and beautiful from summer through fall as the now tall and limbed trees turn colors. And the city plants and replants annuals throughout the summer. Also back then, the opening of Cloud Gate was literally shrouded in issues - delays etc and under a big white tent as the artist buffed and polished the sculpture.
Today, Cloud Gate or "The Bean" is a highlight of any visit to Chicago and Millennium Park. I am fortunate the Park and Bean are my backyard and part of my daily walks or cut through on my way south. See secret viewing spot at the end of the review. ;)
Here's some secrets to really enjoying a visit to Cloud Gate:
Early Morning - Go before 9am - earlier the better. Watch the sun come up and reflect off the east side of the sculpture. Early morning - especially weekends and often during the week, you'll have the place to your self. Uninterrupted selfies, photos with no one in them or to just gaze and notice all the reflective details with no one else around. Also very cool being inside the vortex underneath alone.
Using your phone camera - try wide angle shots a little farther away. If you have an iPhone take advantage of panorama. Inside the vortex take a 360 photo. Look up. Use zoom to focus on the reflections. And of course those selfies - I recommend standing about 20-30 feet away and use photo or portrait and find your light. Take them on all sides. Any Chicagoan will be happy to help take a photo for you and your travel buddies. Just ask.
Reflective surface - be sure to walk around the entire sculpture. Focus on what's being reflected not the sculpture. The reflections from every side, including the sun is different and changes depending on the the time of day. Buildings, trees, people, sky, clouds. The Park and sculpture are placed at the foot of some iconic new and old architecture. Prudential and Aon buildings to the north. Cultural Center to the west. Pritzker Pavilion and trees to the east. Including these in your photos gives a great perspective.
Secret View - Best overview of the park and Cloud Gate. The Chicago Athletic Association at 12 S. Michigan. It's another great place to visit one of many buildings on the historical register. Now a hotel run by Hyatt, the original insides have been updated keeping the original wood, banisters, fireplaces and more.
But here's the kicker - Cindy's is their rooftop restaurant. The view of the park, Cloud Gate and Lake Michigan is unparalleled. Take the elevator up and staff at the host stand are happy to let you walk in to take in the view. They have a bar with first come first serve seating - step out on the balcony for the view. If you can go between lunch and dinner weekdays - you'll have the place to yourself. Personally, I don't think their menu has recovered from Covid - so eat elsewhere.

We stop at Le Bean during a few days in Chicago. Super nice and original, it is a must!

It is cute and you can spend 10 minutes looking at yourself in the Bean as it is known. The Park is beautiful though and deserve a walk

We went early morning to avoid the busy crowds. The structure is good fun for taking pictures with reflections.

Great palce to take pictures. Always crowdy. It is unusual sculpture and it will make you smile. I recomend it.

More disappointed than you can imagine. The Bean was fenced off because of??? No notice until you get up to it and realize it is entirely fenced off - not just a portion- the whole thing.

This huge silver sculpture , also called “the Bean” because of its shape, is located in Millennium Park and is constantly photographed at the right

A unique public sculpture at the heart of the Millennium Park. This is one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations. The "Bean" is a curious attraction. Reflecting everyone around it and the cities skyscrapers. Take pictures, touch and enjoy it.

It's alright. Small-ish park with a big metal bean. Good for a quick pic. Went at Christmas time and there was a big tree and ice rink

we both enjoy here very much. we didn't have any problems here. we both like this place so much. we both we did come here

This piece of art is incredible. I love the reflections that you receive from every angle of it. Stroll around and find your favorite perspective!

Just go! Give up your inhibitions and enjoy the crazy images. Take lots of photos and be glad that you did. Appreciate the joy of the children who love being there.

This is the symbol of Chicago. Of course, you have to take a picture in front of it in order to show everyone you visited Chicago.

Visiting The Bean (Cloud Gate) in Chicago was an unforgettable experience! The unique, reflective design is stunning and makes for incredible photo opportunities from every angle. Located in the heart of Millennium Park, it’s a vibrant spot full of energy and a must-see for both locals and tourists. The surrounding area is beautiful, with plenty of green space, walking paths, and other attractions nearby. Whether you visit during the day or when it’s beautifully lit at night, The Bean is a true Chicago landmark that you don’t want to miss!

I have never seen a spot more crowded than “The Bean” in Chicago; maybe because we had been in the Millennium Park over the weekend. Funny thing to see once but better to enjoy it from the roof terrace of the historic Athletic AssociationHotel.

The best part of The Bean, no one calls it Cloud Gate, is people watching. The sculpture is unique, but hardly worth going out of your way for. Really the idea would be to include Millennium Park, where this is located, in your visit - but only if you like people watching because the other features (fountains, food carts, free musical performances by locals) may not be taking place when you are there, may only be there on weekends, or may not be weather appropriate.

We took a walk after dinner from our hotel to Millennium Park. They have security and you walk through a metal detector so you feel safe. The kids loved it! So many photos for Instagram and SnapChat. I really enjoyed it as well.

Of course you're coming here. It's a fun photo op and definitely worth the stop. Gets super crowded, so it may take a little while to get the shot you want.

Can't go to Chicago without visiting and posing in the Bean. Up close I was amazed by the countless stainless steel plates smoothly welded to curve and reflect everything around it. Genius!

It was fenced off for 1 year renovation. It was still worth going. You can’t step up on the be ch to take a picture:) I am sure it’s great when open but you can take pictures through the fence

Popularly known as "The Bean," this is an amazing piece of architecture! It begs you to take pictures — of it and of yourselves next to it! Located in the heart of Chicago, it is a Must-See.

This was on teenagers list to see, and it is pretty cool. Lots of people around but crowd moves around so you can get close up easily.

I love seeing Cloud Gate (the Bean). It is one of those places/sites that you have to see if you are in Chicago. I also like how you see the reflection of the cityscape when you look at it. If you are planning a trip to Chicago you have to have this on your to do list.

Not a bad walk from the Riverwalk to Millennium Park to see the Bean. Place was so crowded with rude people it was difficult to get any good pictures as others just walked in front of you in their own little worlds. The sculpture is cool looking though. Walked under it and honestly got a little dizzy looking up at it from below. Since we were here, we needed to see it but probably wouldn’t go out of my way to see it again.

High crime area. Last night a 16 year old was shot and killed at 7:30 pm. This is an iconic tourist attraction in Chicago but with all if the crime, just beware. Hopefully that will change and folks can feel safe enjoying it again. Great spot right in the center of Chicago.

A definite 'see' while in town. It is in Millennium park, which is also worth a visit. It is an artistic wonder as well as fun and alluring to see.

We stopped to see 'the bean' at the request of the teens...and it was cool
We spent a good 25 minutes there - people watching, taking pics, and wandering around this landmark.
Stop and see it, don't make it a destination point - but it's close to the Art Institute, great places to eat, and more!

Chicago is a wonderful place, it is the cultural center by nature of the USA, we can find in one place, Pareos on boats, near theaters, museums and its symbol, the bean, that leaves it in full remodeling.

This is a must-see in Chicago! Plenty of people come here and it can be very crowded, luckily when we went it was not terrible and we could enjoy some photos and the view of the skyscrapers surrounding this bean!

Cloud Gate, aka "the Bean," is one of the top tourist attractions in the city of Chicago. That is why we went there. Still trying to understand the appeal. It is basically a large, bean shaped mirror. Now you know so you do not need to go yourselves.

What seems to be a simple sculpture provides an array of multiple reflections from underneath. Highly recommended if you're anywhere near Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park.

A very nice place that you can take amazing pictures reflecting downtown chicago in different angles. Park your car few blocks .

So fun to take pictures at with the grandkids. They are mesmerized and then when you take them under it they are amazed at seeing themselves.

Go early! We were there at 8:30 in the morning and there were maybe 30 people around the bean. Got lots of great pictures. We went later in the day and the thing was mobbed. Chicagoans love to hate on the thing, call it touristy and overrated, but I thought it was pretty fun to look at, at least for the first ten minutes. Worth a visit if you're a tourist.

It was not too busy when we were there, the children loved it, including the different reflections that the toy could see.

This site was so cool, and we enjoyed taking pictures and selfied at this location very much. It's also accessible as a view from a hyatt hotel across the street. Flood with people but you should be expecting that.

Need a place to take an incredible selfie? Here it is! Of course, there's 10,000 other people around, but that's why we have PhotoShop, right? :)

It was ok. Wasn't to busy when we went. Was good to see once. Underneath was neat to look up at the middle. At least a couple different entrances to the park area. Both had security checking bags and metal detectors. Took about 10 minutes to get through the line. If near by is worth a stop but wouldn't go out of the way to see it.

The ‘bean’ is always a hit. Chicago landmark. You have to get there early in the day if you want decent photos due to the crowds.

This amazing sculpture is beautiful and exciting to be near. Quite a vision. Any time you see a photo with this beautiful “Bean” you know you are looking at Chicago. It’s wonderful all times of the year and any hour of the day or night. Beautifully reflective. Good for photos. And simply a joy to stand near or beneath. Great for both chills and smiles.

We loved taking selfies with this iconic piece! We visited on a clear day, with the sun shining, as the snow and ice melted off!

It is definitely a tourist must see attraction. You can visit any time of year and will see tons of folks gathered around the bean taking pics and reconnecting with each other at the same time. There are vendors around the area for a drink or something to eat as well.

Cloud Gate affectionately known as the Bean was a cool quick thing to do while in Chicago. Synonymous with the city’s personality. Love how the locals surround all that this structure has to offer.

Be sure to walk around Cloud Gate to see all of it. It's easy to take a photo of yourself in the bean.

Under construction and can’t take good photos. That was a bummer, but the surrounding area is gorgeous!!

A must see in Chicago, but spending more than five minutes would be a waste of time. The bean itself was covered in finger and hand prints and badly needed a cleaning, as did the plaza.

It’s always too crowded, it would be nicer to be able to take turns for photos or something. It’s an amazing piece of art, but people ruin it

Great to be able to see the bean finally up close and personal. The bean was the best part of the park, it was also the busiest part of the park

Most people go only for the pic but it is a really nice piece of urban art that you must know if you are in Chicago, also the park is super nice.

Millennium Park was scheduled to open in spring 2024 and during our week in Chicago, we saw NO employees working on the grounds. I doubt that it will open very soon and as we don't plan to return to Chicago, it was A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT not to have access to it, as well as to the fountains and others, really disappointed!!
You ignore the importance of having access to tourist attractions and especially the price of a stay in Chicago, which does not come cheap with hotels and restaurants.

Is a famous point in Chicago. It’s nice because is strange to see a big bean.
A lot of people there taking photos and walking through the gardens. I recommend u

It's such a tourist trap, but that doesn't mean it's not cool. Have breakfast near the Bean so you can take it in with a morning coffee.

Hard to believe someone was able to create a seemingly seamless piece of stainless steel. We also had a pleasant surprise when a boys choir from Germany stopped the crowd and sang two breathtaking songs.

A lot better in real life than on pictures. Quite surprised at the size. Intersing to find out about the British designer too. Well worth stopping here for a hour.

The best time to go if you are walking is the middle of the day. There is a lot of crime In Chicago and a lot of shootings everyday while I was there the middle of the day was the safest time it seemed

We went early so the crowd was small. We were able to get some cool pictures with the bean and of the surrounding areas. A must see.

Very unusual experience but worth it. A giant stainless steel kidney bean is something you don't see everyday. Yeah--it's an ellipse--but it looks like a bean. Watching people taking pictures of it is hilarious. The sculpture itself is nice but the people watching is out of this world!

Had to go through long line and metal detection at security as a result of crime in Chicago. Security guard working the metal detector took my friends pepper spray. Seems counterintuitive since, as I said before, crime, Chicago, yk. Anyways, finally got in and couldn’t find it? Where’d it go? Photo of my friend Claire not with the bean for reference. Nevertheless, we persisted and stayed in good spirits. I love this city. I love the hat I bought in line to “see the bean.” And I love my friend Claire. 4/10

Given the proximity to "corner of Wabash and Lake" used by Neo and Trinity to exit the Matrix, this piece of art is just trippy enough to be worthy of its proximity to the legendary location used in The Matrix. Best view is from the bottom wher it feels you're in a gigantic kaleidoscope.

Wonderful to see people out enjoying this amazing sculpture! Great park and great art in Chicago's Millenium Park.

very interesting, especially on a clear day but with reflected clouds. A must if you're int he park.

Most iconic spots in Chicago! It’s even more impressive in person. The reflections of the skyline and people around create such a cool effect.

I chose to make a connection in Chicago precisely because I wanted to have the famous photo in the beans and it was the biggest disappointment as it is still closed. Strange to be under renovation for so long.

We really enjoyed stopping in the park, and there was so much going on at the park. The Bean is quite something.

Pretty hard to get a clear photo with so many people, but worth the visit! Really beautiful structure and relaxing to look at/walk through.

I gave the bean four stars because its iconic and in the end, its just a bean and a nice photo op. I would definitely recommend going here to take a picture but unless an event is going on, you'll be here for 5 minutes.

Have you been to Chicago if you haven't seen The Bean? It's a fun stop and a great photo op location. But bring hand sanitizer; you will touch where many have touched before!

It's fun to see the Bean! Every angle has new reflections; you can even walk under it. You will only spend 15 minutes here though.

Monument in Millennium Park, one of Chicago's landmarks. As the name suggests, it is a metal oval object like a cloud, but its reflection is interesting because its surface is like a mirror.

What a wonderful piece of Architecture- definitely a must for first time Chicago visitors. It is a statue with a fantastic shape and decor.

My mom and I took a pit stop at THE BEAN on our way to visit the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Not only did it reflect our beautiful faces, it reflected the Windy city behind us leaving us with an amazing view. I 100% recommend stopping at the bean (or Cloud Gate as some other more boring people may refer it as) any time you are driving through Chi town!

Spend a week with family. Stay at the south loop, S Wabash.
Chicago is famous as windy city in USA. Then, I realize what this mean, especially when the cold air blowing from the lakefront at below 10 degree celcius - really freezing.
Chicago is rich of history and culture. We bought Chicago CityPass which allow to choose 5 attraction for 9 days validation. Chedd Aquaruim and Skydeck Chicago are mandatory with other 3 picks from 6 choices. We chose Shoreline Sightseeing Architecture River Tour, Griffin Museum of Sceince and Industry and Adler Planetarium.
These attractions are worth for money and time. We spend a day for each attraction.
Beside this, we spend one day sightseeing by walking around 7 km in 3 hour. We spend other day to visit Lincoln Park Zoo.
This 9 days trip is enjoyable and eye opening for this partner of USA.

When one thinks of over-hyped tourist attractions, that are more trouble than they need to be, the bean, comes to mind immediately. This very famous structure was behind a barricade, so we couldn’t really enjoy it. To make matters worse, parking was a total nightmare for a first time visitor (me).
My advice to anyone reading these reviews: take public transport to the park. If you have to take your own car, download SpotHero for parking coupons. Avoid parking in the underground garages - it’s $30 for anything between0 and 3 hours!

I wish I could have found this on the internet before we paid a taxi to see “The Bean”.
We are here on August 17, 2023 and when we got there, the sculpture was fenced off for construction.

Unfortunately, there is renovation around the prayer" and it is therefore not possible to get close. Definitely a great piece of art and worth a visit

Even under construction the work is beautiful, can't wait for spring 2024 for the space to be returned to the public. It still remains a safe bet to see

A giant object in Millennium Park, right next to the Art Institute of Chicago. At first I didn't know what it was, but when you say Cloud Gate, it looks like a cloud. The silvery surface reflects the surrounding landscape like a mirror. It's worth a look.

Arguably the icon of the city - it’s a must see for a first time in Chicago. If you’re visiting at any time other than the start of end of the day expect the crowds to be large but the area is spacious enough for it not to be unpleasant. The entire surrounding area is nice to wander round too, so you can spend a fair bit of time. A lovely spot.

Nice park. The BEAN is under renovation until April, 2024, and behind a fence with mesh. Hard to get pictures. This park has many other features and is a great place to visit!

The bean what a great thing to see . Stopped here on a coach tour it was raining but still a great thing to go and see. Would definitely recommend, got amazing photos

Beautiful reflections of the sky, buildings and people which looks like a painting, except it constantly changes as people move around. It was incredibly difficult to build yet looks so simple, a really beautiful piece of sculpture.

This is so worth the visit - Millenium Park has much to offer - the Bean is so much fun seeing the reflection on any day cloudy or sunny. All the holidays lights were up along with Ice Skating and very nice ice rink outdoors. Highly recommend it

This might very well be the best-known sculpture in the United States, and it's certainly worth a visit if you're in Chicago. Be prepared for crowds, but then just find an open area to take your photo, selfie, or even reflective photograph while you're there. Due to its curvature, you get different perspectives when looking at its reflection.

Very blocked off due to construction. Wish they made some kind of accommodations during construction to see more. Was able to get some pictures.

everyone was trying to do the same thing - take pictures at the beanie! go to lakefront and rent a bike and avoid the stupid crowd!

This darling of Instagram will be a mob scene, but it's still worth seeing. Very cool perspective if you walk underneath and then look up!

Really cool piece of art to be able to view from various angles. Going underneath it is pretty awesome. A Chicago staple that is fun and takes about 10 minutes to view (with smaller crowds). The park area surrounding is beautiful as well.

Be aware that it takes hours to go through this place, but there are no food/beverage concessions inside the museum. COVID shut down both of the cafes and as of this year nobody has come in to fill the void.

Go to the bean at night! Less crowded. More beautiful pictures. I personally think the reflection from the buildings onto the bean makes it better. We went during the day and it was insanely busy. At night was a different story.

Going to Chicago as a tourist means going to see "the bean"! I'm not sure if it's coming out of the COVID malaise, but seeing the delight on people's faces as they see their reflection in this architectural magnificence just brings a sense of joy to the heart. On a beautiful sunny day with all the smiles, it's a little heavenly.

That was my second visit and I was so disappointed this time because the park now opens only at 8 am until 9 pm. For a big city like Chicago with that nice sculpture I couldn’t believe these hours. I got up early tans hoped to get great pictures of the bean with the beautiful sunrise but security kicked us out. At 8 am the sun was out but the pinky clouds were gone. It was such a beautiful sunrise and the reflection of the pinky clouds could have been my super great photo of the bean but the city of Chicago destroyed that experience. The same for the night. If you are into photography you don’t want a ton of people in your photo. But with these hours there is no chance that you could get a photo just with the bean or with yourself or your company.
The photo here is from the opposite side outside the park.

A must see if in Chicago to see the iconic bean sculpture - you need to walk under it and try and find multiple versions of yourself. The skyline in the area is also great and it's nice to wander around Millennium Park if it's a nice day

Had to stop by and see the "bean". You can touch it and walk under it. Conveniently located near other attractions so a easy item to do. Visited during a warm and sunny day in May. Will say it is hard to get good pictures if you are a solo traveler.

It's there. In the middle of the crowds. Lots going on. Great park too. There is always a crowd so don't try to own space for your selfies.

Had no idea the area around the sculpture is under renovation. The sculpture can only be seen from behind a chain link fence.

Ok
I get it that sometimes that places need "refurbishment"
And therefore that fencing may need to be in place for obvious reasons
BUT
Surely it wouldn't have been beyond the wit of management to at least leave the fencing clear - without obscuring sheeting - so that it can be viewed from all sides ESPECIALLY from the front
POOR SHOW CHICAGO

Must see the “bean” at the park. Fun to people watch, benches nearby, walk underneath, take photos … and enjoy this unique., fun sculpture.

Part of our Millenium park experience - was fun trying to find us located in the cloud (which we did). You only need a few minutes here.

Cloud Gate (The Bean) is a feature sculpture at Millennium Park. It is the work of artist Anish Kappor (2004-06) and is the shape of moving liquid mercury with a perfect reflective surface, allowing visitors to walk around and even under the sculpture, seeing themselves as well as the park and parts of the Chicago Skyline in the background.
It is a really fun sculpture that is become one of the most easily recognisable landmarks at Millennium Park, a quick thrill for children and something interesting for everyone, regardless of your interest in monument viewing.

This sculpture is more commonly and more affectionately known as The Bean and is now a symbol of Chicago. The sculpture reflects the local environment including the park and the buildings. Visitors and locals live to take their picture with The Bean assuring that people you don't know will be in your photo

You cannot come to Chicago without visiting The Cloud Gate in Millennium Park. Be prepared to take a ton of reflective photos from different angles - make sure you go underneath and look up too!

Whenever I visit Cloud Gate in Chicago's Millennium Park, I am instantly reminded of Aladdin's Castle at Riverview, the amusement park at Belmont and Western that thrilled millions of visitors from 1904 to 1967. One of Aladdin's most popular features was the fun house mirror that distorted the images of its viewers. Which is exactly what attracts many visitors to Cloud Gate. Located at 201 East Randolph, at Michigan Avenue, it is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza, an enormous sculpture constructed between 2004 and 2006 by Indian-born British artist Sir Anish Kapoor. It is located on top of Park Grill, between the Chase Promenade and McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink. It is Kapoor's first permanent public outdoor work in the United States and has become one of his most famous. Kapoor named Cloud Gate because 80 percent of its surface reflects the sky. But Chicagoans have affectionately nicknamed the sculpture "The Bean" because of its shape. It is made of 168 stainless steel plates welded together. Its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet and weighs 110 short tons. Its 12-foot high arch allows visitors to walk around and under the sculpture. Hence, its popularity and similarity to the fun house mirror at Riverview. The Bean is popular among tourists as a photo-taking opportunity for its unique reflective properties. On the underside is a concave chamber that warps and multiplies and distorts reflections of any subject. Interestingly, Kapoor's contract states that the constructed piece should be expected to survive for 1,000 years. Trivia buffs will be delighted to learn that The Bean is wiped down twice a day by hand using a Windex-like solution.

We really enjoyed this place. I already reviewed this under Millennium Park. A fall visit with Chicago wind floating yellow and orange leaves all over the air. We enjoyed it.

We went early in the morning so it would be less crowded. Centrally located and easy to find. This is a fun place to take pictures. This location seemed safe and it was very clean. A visit of about 45 minutes was sufficient for us. Definitely worth the time to visit this iconic location.

Cloud Gate located in the Millennium Park in Chicago of the top attractions visited in the city. Nice to be visited while you are in the park.
People loved ti take pictures and hang around.

We got there about 11am on a sunny Saturday morning and this part of the park was packed. The "bean" is a simple enough concept beautifully designed and built, pity other peoples' enjoyment is somewhat ruined by idiots with not just fingerprints but splashes from the likes of milk shakes!

My out-of-town company always thanks me for bringing them here when they come to Chicago for the first time.

It's hard to miss this great attraction while visiting Millennium Park. An early in the day, or later in the afternoon visit may be less crowded, but it make for a great "photo opportunity".

Be sure to photobomb someone nearby so they have a fun memory to take home. And then be sure to offer to take nice photos of them afteward, without you in them.

An interesting sculpture and fun to try and take pictures with. I'm not 100% sure it's worth coming out for on its own (unless you're a modern art enthusiast) but if you're going to Millennium Park already then I recommend stopping by.

We came first thing in the morning to avoid crowds. We had a great experience. Lots of great photo opportunities. Well worth the stop. As afternoon approaches crowds come in waves and vendors around trying to sell snacks and trinkets.

This is a really neat piece of art. I enjoy people watching here. It’s fun. The park is lovely as well. Bring a snack or lunch and watch people take pictures.

The Cloud Gate massive sculpture is an interesting site as you walk to and from the adjacent Millennium Park. Besides its unusual shape, the polished curved exterior provides interesting crowd reflections as you walk by. One of several massive and eye-catching outdoor sculptures inside this park section of the city worth visiting.

I’m not sure why this place is such an attraction. If you really want to see it, I recommend walking through Millennium Park on your way to the Field Museum or Shedd Aquarium. That way you can pass Grant Park with Buckingham fountain to make it worth the trip.

SO DISAPPOINTED! The area is under construction right now and it is completely fenced in. It’s impossible to get a picture without construction fences and cranes in it. This is our first time in Chicago. Such a bummer!

This is a pretty popular attraction, so don't expect everyone to clear out of the way of your photos.
I was looking forward to finally seeing the "Bean" on my third trip to Chicago, and it did not disappoint. My six year old was less than impressed, though. Luckily, it is a pretty quick stop, once you get some photos in and around it.
After you are done, take your time and enjoy some of Millennium Park. It is pretty cool as well.

Cloud Gate was not disappointing. Great people watching and a very calming rest from walking, just staring into the reflective surface.

Not sure you can visit Chicago for the first time without getting a selfie here.
Busy spot but a quick and easy stop when wandering through Millennium Park.

Missed the actual reopening of the Bean to the public by a mere 2 days. Kept on asking but cannot get an affirmation. Well got to sneak in some photo shots . That’s it . Shucks !

Called cloud gate but known as the bean is a must do in Chicago. Great photos in a lovely park. A must see. Would highly recommend

If you’re wanting to see the Bean, go early in the morning as it appears to be a lot less crowded. We went in the evening, and it was terribly crowded. You must go through security to get in, but admission is free. The Bean itself is fun to take a picture with and something you can check off your list of things to see in Chicago fairly quickly.

If you get the chance, visit 'the Bean' early in the morning as there will be very few people about... we had the site pretty much to ourselves at 7.30am in late July, & could really 'lose ourselves' in the sculpture without loads of other tourists being around.

This amazing artwork attrakts many people. Searching for your own reflektion you also notice other people in the cloud gate who do the same thing. Makes great pictures of the surrounding skyskrapers.

Such a neat thing to see. Very crowded when we were there. There is seating around it. There are restrooms but they were not kept up.

We had a 9 hour layover in Chicago so decided to explore. CTA was very easy to navigate- Millenium Park, Cloud Gate, Buckingham Fountain, Chicago Art Institute, Deep dish pizza at Pizano's. Easy walking, beautiful city. The Bean is so much fun. Bucket List...✔

Woah, nobody ever told me what happened when you walked under it. All disputes with Anish Kapoor aside, absolutely go see this. It's touristy but in a way that's not disappointing at all.

Sadly, during our visit, the Cloud Gate was closed. Even though the attraction was fenced off, you can still see it from a few places and even get a few picture.

Wow, this is amazing one could easily spend an hour here. Also the surroung grounds are spotless and there is so much to see in this area

This big reflective bubble is right next to the lakeshore and its visit can be part of a walking tour of Chicago.

It's something beautiful to see and admire, take a few pictures in front of it too while you are there.

Fun to see but the bean was fenced off for some reason put a real damper on the visit. I assume it’s either a short term project or for the winter weather. Regardless it was cool would like to see it up close next time.

It's a cool sight to see the city skyline stretched out in a reflective bean. You can take a cool picture of yourself and family. Pretty cool place. Even has a view of the lakeshore.

This is a must-do if you’re in town. It looks spectacular in the good weather. Plenty of tourists were swamping around the feature. I would definitely recommend that you swing by just to marvel at the sculpture

Very sad, because it is closed to the public, you can only take some photos from afar but nothing redeemable, in general apart from this fiasco, the area is beautiful, it is worth visiting the rest of the park (it's a shame that the nearby front was also off)
:(,
Good luck...

Go early in the morning, it's is the best time to see it and take pics. If you like crowds go in the afternoon. It's neat to see and way bigger than I imagined. The Bean has great reflections of the city. Awesome to see. Make sure you check it out!

If we are downtown it is easy to meet friends here. When we stay in Chicago it is easy to tell people to meet us at the bean. Our daughter went to school here we would meet at the bean. It just an easy meeting place.

If your going, plan to go early, as amount of people that are there is High. We went later just on off chance, but if we hasn't gone wouldn't of missed much.

This is the most photographed object in the park, the Cloud Gate, although the locals call it 'The Bean', which I believe rather annoys the artist.

This is definitely a unique sculpture. It's very reflective and very cool. I think it's a must-see sight in Chicago.

It’s a great place to hang out at least once during your Chicago visit. It’s an Interesting piece of art, reflects the city nicely. Go down to the Playground, it’s fun for kids & adults.

Simply great modern art in the center of the millennium park. Amazing reflection of lights and the Chicago buildings.

This is just a kind of art work you feel happy when you see it, star struck is the feeling. Knew it all to well from all the pictures but then to be see in for real was just a topping on the cake.

The "Bean" is iconic to Chicago. Definitely go if you're nearby and grab a few photos, but don't expect the experience to take long. Now that we've been there, done that, I don't think we'd go back again, unless we happened to be in that area.

The Cloud Gate is a pretty neat place to see if you have a few minutes to fill while in Chicago. Definitely shouldn't miss out on visiting.
Mandatory in Chicago
There's not much to say. Everyone who goes to Chicago visits this sculpture. Enjoy the surroundings for a good meal or beer in a pub
