Coney Island is beach, rides and fun. If you like the thrilling rides, there are plenty of offerings. Also the beach is wide and spacious. The boardwalk takes you back in time. What was very disappointing is the catering. The restaurants on the boardwalk are very basic and offer basically the same: Hot Dogs and burgers.
All in all not really worthwhile to take the metro from Manhattan as a tourist.

Nice place by the beach. We took the metro. Was easy to get there. Typical place as you know it from the movies and series. It's worth the trip. It can be done in a morning or afternoon.

Famous amusement park facing the ocean.
Many attractions for young and old.
Beautiful walk on the seafront and on the pier.

Everything is closed in the mornings as late as 10am. This would probably be more fun in the summer, and I would suggest waiting until then to visit.

An interesting experience. The beach was dirty, full of broken glass and litter. My kids enjoyed the sea and it was something different to the city. The boardwalk was good and we went to Ruby's for some food and drinks. It was a disappointing trip overall due to the dirty beach.

Took the subway from Midtown. took about 1 hour 15 minutes. The visual of coney was better than i expected. It was larger than I thought. Beware. It can be confusing when getting tickets to the rides. There are 2 or 3 parks with different owners. WE bought tickets to ride Cyclone. Very rough, but fun. Then we went to ride the big Ferris wheel, and it is in a different park, so if you buy too many tickets in one park, you can't use them in the other. Plenty of games and rides, food, and drinks. It should be a must see place for visitors to NYC. The subway ride was convenient, and fun to see the neighborhoods.

Every year my family and I have made it a tradition to hang out at Coney Island for the 4th- our fourth year in running. And as always we love it. We only do the beach. The multi-cultural crowds, the festive blend of music, the acts, performers, the food and the beach goers never cease to amaze us. We love to swim in what some folks refer to as “dirty waters”. We take our annual salt baths here and it’s serves up a golden- cinnamon complexion tan that last well off into winter. The kids and I build sand castles while my husband looks at all the booties in bikinis. We get out fill in on Nathan’s and life is simply sweet in the sun. Drawback- This year was particularly different for some strange reason; it was nearly impossible to get to the water. People were literally on top each other with their umbrellas and what-not as you had gotten closer to the shore line. I found that disturbing. SPACE PLEASE. One rollover and you’re face to face with a buttock. Lol. Crazy!!! The standard fireworks were great at the steeplechase pier. CI can step their game up for the fourth, they are packing a lot of money; they can buy better firework and give a real show on the fourth.
Side note; We love CI, and anyone going their for a first or any date, it’s a great way to have fun. You have rides, you can play games, arcade and Tom’s CI restaurant offers a great view of fire works on Friday from their rooftop seating; romantic sunset strolls along the beach is beautiful. And a plus for me, I take the kids crabbing and fishing on the pier. Every year during the winter, I look back on my summer pics with nostalgia. Can’t wait to do all again next summer!!!

Over the course of my life I have heard Coney Island mentioned hindreds of times on TV and in movies and how great it is. We were in NYC for a week and had a spare few hrs so took the subway to see how it measured up to our expectations, it failed miserably.
1st off I will say 2 things saved this area from being a complete loss, 1 is Nathans which is iconic and I love their dogs, 2 is thr shop selling Warriors gear.
The waterfront itself is nothing great, the boardwalk has a lot of loose boards in need of repair, the amusment park is actually numerous separate companies running their little fiefdoms and its not cheap for what amounts to a permanent carnival setup. A few restaurants along the boardwalk and a few more on the main drag comprise the area along with the Aquarium which we did not visit.
Go grab a hotdog, get a Warriors shirt & get out.

Coney Island offers a variety of different activities. The amusement park is great if you wanna have some fun. The beach to relax and unwind. The boardwalk and food is also quite an experience. It is a bit crowded for my taste but an experience to have.

More money should be invested, we used to love going there . Not the same .great location , can’t wait to see in a future and hope it will grow bigger and better .

If your are at new york, I totally recommend gong this place and try the cyclone and the Thunderbolt.. OMg those are really scary and totally woth it.. i would go a gain there undoubtedly.

It’s a beautiful place to take the children they can learn a lot. The sea lions was very intelligent

Coney Island is the cess pit of NewYork where all the sewage converges dirty , smelly filthy are the words that come to mind. The place is a hovel and do not go if you value your health and sanity . The amusement rides are a rip off and I would question the safety. Keep your money in your pocket.

Coney Island is a quite old amusement park, but it has new additions to the rides.
The bad thing is there are 2 separate parks so you need to purchase tickets in those parks separately.
We purchased unlimited pass for our son, it was a mistake, he didn’t want to ride on the same rides fee times, and there are not enough rides in one park to justify the price of unlimited pass.
So think twice before purchasing the unlimited pass

Great Luna Park! We paid 99 dollars for the unlimited experience but the 79 dollar pass would have been enough! We paid 10 dollars more for the Ferris wheel in swinging version! An experiment! We had the chance to attend the annual mermaid parade on June 21st! Magic and we laughed!!!! Without filter some mairmaid!!!!

lovely place, nice beach, cafes and the amusement park, it is like in the movies, be careful with the broken glass pieces in the sand :(

We went to coney island because we had heard and read so much about it. Overall we were disappointed. Kind a look like a carnival that was stuck in one place. We did like the guy playing the guitar with all of the birds on the boardwalk.

Going to Coney Island is like going to the beach in New York, nothing more, nothing less. Allow 45 minutes to get there by metro. On site the cliché loses a little of its luster, it is in fact a funfair which is all that is more banal, friendly but a bit out of date, dated in fact... The prices are high, especially for the food, not or few places to sit, little shade, it's a bit disappointing. The beach is huge, we went there to put our feet in the water (very cold despite the heat), be careful of the shards of glass. There are nice pontoons where people fish, it's really nice even if while fishing they listen to loud music!!^^ In short, the whole thing leaves a taste of disappointment all the same .

The place is impressive but in its original state. Everything looks old, not all the rides are open.
Very little information on opening hours.
Definitely better in summer.
On the other hand, very beautiful beach right next door.
The place is still worth seeing!

Coney Island is easily accessible by subway. Be on Coney Island in an hour from downtown Manhattan. There are several parks with attractions ‘stuck together’. Very nice and cozy! During the hot summer days also nice and cooler than in the city. The almost 100 year old coaster is highly recommended!

If you like the smell of sewers it's the place for you. The rides are expensive. Such as the cyclone ride it costs 10 dollars for one single ride with is a rip off. So try to avoid coming here please.

I really loved coney beach. The wooden boardwalk and funfair makes you feel like you're in a movie. We took the subway from manhatten which took around 50 mins, well worth it for a chill day

First time. The rides are WAY overpriced, but the boardwalk and scenery is beautiful. Good selection of above average "fair food", and who can go wrong with a Nathan's dog? We Uber'ed from Manhatten, and I'm not sure it was worth $160 round trip but if you find yourself in Brooklyn, it's worth a stop.

I bet twenty years ago, this was the place to be. It had so much potential, was not at all like you see in movies or during the famous hot dog eating competitions. Hardly anything open, some of the rides weren't working and the restaurants open, was just ok. Glad they had alcohol, otherwise would have been seriously disappointed.

We had always wanted to check out Coney Island. An easy subway ride from Manhattan, took us about 45 minutes from the Canal Street stop without changing trains.
We didn't know what to expect honestly. It was fun to see Nathan's, Ruby's, and of course the boardwalk and beach. Riding amusement park rides isn't for my hubby due to a health condition, yet we loved walking around. In truth, there really isn't that much to see? Fun to people watch while grabbing a beer or ice cream from one of the places on the boardwalk, fun to see the rides in action, and great that you can walk through without paying.
The highlight for us is the Circus Sideshow, so that is a different review for sure! Check them out! And of course the local brewery is a short walk from the boardwalk at their new location. So unless you really want to ride the rides (kinda pricey) or go to the beach (seemed a bit dirty to us though), go check out Coney Island to check it off of your list and say you have been there; yet there's no reason to plan any more than a few hours there maximum.

Coney Island has kept it's charming and inviting atmosphere for years, and remains one of the main attractions of the State of NYC! The Boardwalk and Pier to me, inspires and excites in a calming, cool way!

Extensive beach, with beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean, amusement park, a nice pier, refreshing food and drinks for hot days! You can reach this destination on the Subway line

We loved Coney Island! We walked the boardwalk, rode the Wonder Wheel, tasted flights at Coney Island Brewery, and ate at Nathan’s Famous. It was clean and felt safe the whole time. It is an iconic place and you won’t regret the long subway ride to get there!

It was blistering hot but it's really nice at the beach in Coney Island. All the fun of the fair. abundance of ice cream, drinks and hot dogs on offer. Beach was crowded but clean and sandy. Fair filled with scary rides.

Great scenery and much better than anticipated. After seeing this area in countless movies, it was time for a visit. The boardwalk provides stunning views and lots of fresh air plus exercise. A nice change from Time Square which is where we’re staying.

the beach is amazing, long and wide although full of garbage and glass. the public toilets stink at a distance, so avoid them. The boardwalk is nice, but same trees or umbrellas would be nice, as there is no shade at all and even in May it was too hot.
Theme parks are closed during the weekdays, which was a big disappointment for kids.

This location has some perfect spots to take pictures of Brooklyn Bridge behind you. The amusement part looked good but I didn't get a chance to visit it

Iconic place but very confusing and chaotic. We didn't see the beach, we approached the amusement park and took a short walk. If you have time it's a must-do to experience the atmosphere seen in several films but otherwise it's a skippable stop. We arrived on a Sunday around 4pm and felt unsafe, we had planned to stay until sunset but decided to head back towards the city first.

Great getaway from the busy & tourist areas of Downtown Manhattan. The MTA train drops you off right at Coney Island. It’s about a block or two from the main strip area. I recommend coming here if you want to spend time at the beach, have a quick service meal or check out many of the rides. There is a Six Flags in Jersey (Great Adventure), but would take a little over 2 hours to get there by train and bus. So for an inexpensive and less time consuming way to enjoy another side of NYC, Coney is the the place to come to.

This is a great place to enjoy amusement rides and pharmaceuticals. Just don't try both at the same time unless you have a strong stomach!

We used the Explorer pass and it was a pleasure. The Grandchildren found enough to do. Practically all rides covered. The large Ferrous wheel and go carts were not allowed, found out it was a different park. The Raceway in Coney Island was not allowed, the Exporer information mis-labled this as Go Carts. Recommend FIX IT, use the Raceway name. Great day arrived early left by 4pm when crowds got to large.

Its a must visit if you go to NYC. Easy to get there by subway. Tons to do at Coney Island, rides, eats, drinks etc. Great beach for pass time, sun tanning etc.

We stayed on Friday nights, when they normally do fireworks. The walk on the beach . the rides , the people singing improvising artists ..... everything was fabulous. We would stay again.

We visited Coney Island 3 weeks ago. We were very disappointed with it from the outset - dirty and rundown, not at all what we had expected from such a famous amusement park. The only positive is that we went on a few of the extreme thrill rides to begin with which were great fun and had no queues.
The main negative and a huge concern - we went on a new ride there called Clockworkz (formerly called Nebulaz I believe) and one of the boys working the ride forgot to put our overhead harness down before instructing the boy on the control panel that the ride was good to go. So... they set the ride off while we were sat on it with no safety harnesses what so ever. There were children on the ride but thankfully their safety harnesses had been fixed down. We had to jump off whilst it was moving in mid-air. Heaven only knows what would have happened if we hadn't jumped. I love theme parks and have been on them all over the World but have never experienced anything like this.
As it turns out, the boy in charge of safety on that ride was a Thai exchange student who only spoke broken English. Clearly not adequately trained and how can you employ someone to be in charge of people's safety when they can't speak or understand the language fully- absurd! Another worry- how was the ride able to start when all harnesses were clearly not locked down, and why didn't it stop automatically, surely there should be sensors- the ride operators had to be screamed at by onlookers to manually stop the ride.
Had this been a child then I dread to think what the outcome would have been.
We were offered a free ride on the Coney Island Cyclone by way of apology or a taxi ride home(!) - I couldn't get out of the park quick enough and can safely say this has put me off theme parks for a long time!
This place is not safe, the ride operators of all rides are young kids who are too busy chatting and look completely disinterested in doing what they're employed to do. Horrifying experience.

You have to go to Coney Island at least once Lots of fun. The Wonder Wheel and Cyclone are definitely worth riding and if you can find Zoltar the Fortune Teller, have your future told (Think the movie Big) Despite what you might read from other reviews the beach is lovely and VERY clean. We walked it for miles and didn’t see any trash Stop by Coney Island Brewery too for good micro brews

Hot sand and warm ocean after 25 km on a bike from manhattan really feels good. We were severly burned up but very nice police officers showed us that there is sunscreen for free on every spot which helped us a lot. The aquarium is great and I love the metal water bottles sold there to save the oceans from plastic ( Still have mine 7 days after)

I’ve always wanted to go to Coney Island...but what the heck is even going on here?! It’s so dirty and weird. It’s also super expensive for the rides you get. The people that work here are scary and it just gives you a really weird vibe. I was super let down by the entire experience. The only thing that was worth it was Nathan’s which was pretty good.
Gross, spend your time elsewhere.

If you visit New York in the summer (when it's very hot), a visit to Coney Island is a great activity. Bring your swimwear, in addition to the amusement park there is also a large beach. Nice to have been there after seeing it in several movies😃

Iconic historic place that I have always wanted to go see. I couldn't help to think of The Warriors as I walked along LOL! It is a traditional boardwalk amusement park but one thing other amusement parks don't have is the Cyclone!!! Oh my goodness that was the best wooden roller coaster I have ever ridden. Totally worth the trip out! We took the Q train from Times Square and it was about an hour ride. So much fun and it was our first time on the subway which was great too. "Can you dig it!!!!"

In all the years I’ve been coming to New a York, I’ve never been to Coney Island. We took the subway - it was so easy to get there. Once off the subway it’s easy to get to the beach & the fun fair. Everything was closed up & it was a cold & wet day. But it was wonderful to see everything - without the crowds. The street art was amazing. Will definitely return in the summer. But well worth a visit whatever time of year.

Coney island on friday nights in the summer is special... but more for date night... Saturday Afternoons are supper family time.. bring your cash though. Can spend just as much here as any amusement park.. but you also have a beach and many place to eat..

We came here on a hot humid day in August we were desparate to cool down!
Parking was metered, very easy to get a spot.
The changing rooms although they had workers in them cleaning it was disgusting. It was very outdated and gross my kids refused to change in them they ended up changing out in the open under their clothes. It was pretty horrifying in there.
The beach water has a lot of debris i saw band-aids and straws. The litter is a problem. We didn't stay in the water for long. When we got out we were very sticky, luckily they do have outdoor cold showers to rinse off.
There was a big police presence which made me feel more at ease.
We ate at Nathan's Famous hot dog joint the food was good i recommend the corn dogs and chicken wings. My dad had the fish sandwich he said it was the worst he ever had but the other did we had was really good.
There's tons of rides you can buy tickets or an all day wrist band.
There's also a cool area with graffiti art walls my teenagers loved taking pics there.

I love this place, every time I visit NYC I have to come here, so many things to do, lovely place and great to visit with kids!

There is nothing special about this place that surprises or delights. The beach is ordinary, quite dirty. I think this place is overrated.

I went down to Coney Island on the 4th of July for the hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s not knowing what to expect and ended up having a good time. The contest was a lot of fun.
Then it was off to the New York Aquarium for the afternoon and looking at all the exhibitions. The sea lion show is still a lot of fun and very interactive with the audience.
They also had a very interesting art exhibition with sea animals made of reclaimed plastic that you should not miss. They are located all over the aquarium. The Shark exhibition was also infesting to see how we misjudge sharks since the movie ‘Jaws’.
The Coney Island Museum is really interesting if you want to know the history of Coney Island and its amusements.
There is more than just the rides and the beach but word of advice. Don’t venture too far from the Boardwalk. It is not the greatest neighborhood unless you go in the other direction to Brighten Beach.

We visited when everything was closed but we had a lovely day down at the beach
Coming from Ireland we were delighted to see the sunshine

Unfortunately it was very windy the day we visited and sand was blowing so we were unable to go onto the beach, this did not stop us enjoying Nathan's hot dogs with fries, as it was later in the season the funfairs were closed which I didn't as on my last visit I was subjected to a ride on Cyclone my kids said I would be alright I wasn't it was horrible, but I am sure lots of people enjoy that kind of experience. We had a good wonder around and found a great candy store with more candy than I have ever seen before great to browse to remind yourself of the candy you used to enjoy.

You will have an amazing experience at coney island. This gritty and old school place makes you feel like you stepped back in time. There are everything from street performers, to amusement park rides, to a beach, to a haunted house, to a freak show.

A beautiful place to relax for the afternoon or evening. All of the rides and attractions are still closed, but the boardwalk, beach, ocean, and restaurants are open. Lots of places to relax and get our feet wet!

Coney had gotten better and better,... people are enjoying the freedom with loss a year and a half ago..I enjoy the music by the boardwalk and also by the Pierre..An Amazing place to spend your summer..❤

Cool boardwalk, awesome fun rides. No lines for riding. Great beach & good food. What's not to love! Cool souvenirs

First time visitor to Coney Island as we see it in the movies. What a huge disappointment for us. Lower your expectations and you might enjoy it.
Our biggest problem - good luck finding parking. You are better off parking a mile away and taking a cab. Second, the place is over crowded.
plenty of food options - all over prices - but expected.
Rides are so outdated but I guess they are safe because there were lines of people going on the rides. We didn't go. Plus they are expensive and you pay per ride which could be varying prices.
The beach was overcrowded and dirty. The water was not clean.

Nice place for A day on the beach. We took the train N from Timesquare directly. The train last stop is Coney Island. There was easy to buy tickets by the station. On the beach there Are an amusement park, shops, restaurants and restrooms. On the beach We met tourists and locals.

We love to take the kids there. Is a very exciting place. You feel like your going back in time. However it feels safer and more Exciting..
The beach is a great place to spend hot summer days with the kids..
And then have a great evening on the cyclone or play great arcade games..
BROOLYN is the place to be!!!

The perfect trip to do...Take the train and go to the Brighton Beach Station and walk by the runway made of wood until the Coney Island Park!!! From Sumer until April: enjoy to walk to have the sea in Your eyes and the air in Your chest...Coney Island is nice and A PIECE OF THE STORY!!! don´t miss the AUGUST annual competition of HOT DOGS!!!

We visiting recently, late December. Obviously most of it closed, but we had a good few hours at the aquarium which has a cool shark experience and sea lion show. Wandered down the very quiet boardwalk, Nathan’s hotdog on the walk was closed, but the other Nathan’s which was a few minutes walk away was open and we got a classic Nathan’s cool hotdog/chilli/fries/coke feed.

Coney is cool when the sun goes down (STOP BEING SO PARANOID) I've been going there off & on for years I have relatives there J.Queens we go there when the sun goes down it gets HOT in the summer not St. Petersburg FL Hot but hot enough you'll be fine

Yes it’s expensive, but what did you expect? After you pay, you are given a wristband that can be used to get on the rides for up to 4 hours. The rides are very fun and I would recommend with children older than 7. The park is amazing and for my family it was a great experience!

We had such a fun time at Coney Island last week. I’m from Brooklyn and have seen the transformation of CI. It’s so clean and open. The kids enjoyed all the rides and the yummy snacks and food.

My husband and I took a trip to Brooklyn (we had not been in many years)to go to Nathans. Of course the hotdog and fries are always the best. What a pleasant surprise to see the boardwalk bustling with all walks of people. Kids, Adults, Young Adults...There was a sprinkler for the kids on the beach. There was also movie night. These things I don't remember as a child. So if you want to spend a day at the beach and the boardwalk you don't have to make the long drive to the Jersey shore..Its right there in your own back yard.

The only good thing about coney island is that it has good metro connections so you can leave quickly. The rides that are in the area are horrendously overpriced with one single ride on a roller coaster costing $10 the place smells like a public toilet and probably was used as one. Give this place a wide berth

As a lifelong NYer, this is one place that is a waste to visit. It’s filthy down in Coney. Garbage everywhere, overpriced nonsense everywhere. It’s not even a beautiful sight. It’s a run down dumpster fire. I don’t understand how this place still runs. The whole park is beat up and dingy. And did I mention OVERPRICED? Hold onto your money and go to Six Flags or something. The nerve they have charging that much for run down carnival cr*p at best. Shameful for a tourist trap. At least if it were nice and the surrounding area wasn’t sketchy I could understand the price point but seriously? It’s like walking down shady back alleys with some beat up rides. Huuuuuge no for me. Tear it down, take it out of its misery. Ugh just gross.

Nice beach to make a break from Manhattan, too many vendors of everything, lots of places to eat what here comes to be American food, the bar in Spain

So glad we came here and were lucky to get a nice day. Was great to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Reminded me of an American movie with a beach resort. Most places were closed but I reckon would be very popular in the summer

Nice place to spend an evening, especially if you or your kids are into carnival rides. Lots of places to eat and you can also go to the beach.

Coney Island is a place of extremes. You have a shrinking amusement area, sometimes at night not the best crowds and you do have to watch yourself at sunset.
Still there are many wonderful things to do and see on Coney Island. The new Luna Park is very active with new rides and attractions that keep families amused. The boardwalk still has a lot of excitement to it and on a nice day is the perfect place to get a tan and get something to eat. Nathan's still has the best hot dogs and fries.
The Coney Island Museum is an excellent place to go if you want to learn the history of the amusements of the island and want to take a step back into history. The NY Aquarium has an interesting Shark exhibition that should not be missed and you have to experience the seal show. The beach is still one of the nicest in NYC. Off the beaten track, there are wonderful Russian restaurants in Brighton Beach and Tortino's is still the best for pizza on Neptune Avenue.
You have to look at Coney Island from all angles as it is not Disneyland.

We have seen it on television and now we have been their. This was fun to walk through the park. There are an assortment of rides and prices are reasonable. There is something for kids of all ages. If you get tired of the park, you can walk on the boardwalk. If you want to do more you can go out on the beach or in the ocean. There is plenty to do. If you get hungry Nathans hot dogs is there for you to get something to eat. A fun day.

Absolutely unique New York experience. This iconic place is a must visit for all tourists and New Yorkers! Great family retreat with best views of the beach. Delicious junk food and the best ice cream at Coney Cones.

Here is there something for everyone ,colours ,sounds, fun a place to walk beside the water and enjoy, boutiques ,food ,glass of wine or just to sit and watch tons of people enjoy themselves in laughter.

Visited Coney Island on the 23rd August 2019. Really great amusement park, rides are brilliant. The Cyclone was a great old wooden rollercoaster, would recommend if you like bone shakers! The Wonder Wheel has a really unique take on a normal ferris wheel, the carts slide across a track whilst you move round, a lot of fun! Rides are quite expensive but are really worth it. If your hungry stop off at Nathan’s and get some food, could do with some more seats next to Nathan’s though as it is quite popular. Food was good. Me and my family stayed in Manhattan and travelled to Coney Island on the subway which was fine, not scary like some people think. If your in New York, Coney Island is worth a visit!

The beach is absolutely beautiful and very clean. There are lots of places to eat along the boardwalk and the burgers and hot dogs etc are very reasonable however the alcohol is expensive. If you are bringing young children be aware that the toilets are absolutely filthy at the beach but the theme park toilets are better. There was one male lying completely naked and young children around so need to be mindful of this. Also an extensive use of drugs around the beach. If you are using the Sight seeing pass you only get really three rides at the theme park. The individual stalks eg shooting are 5 dollars per chance so can be a very expensive day if you have children in your group. There was no where to hire sunbeds etc so bring something to sit on. No lifeguards either but this maybe better in the summer.

We went to visit for half a day.
Checked that it was open and rides would be working - but they weren't.
Good job we hadn't gone with children as they would have been disappointed.
It was very quiet and we enjoyed a walk along the boardwalk.
Have been to New York a few times and didn't realise you could get to CI by subway.
We will definitely be going again.

A fun day at Coney Island just to eat a Nathan's hot dog. Felt very safe. A one hour train ride from Manhattan.

For you know the best place where the famous hot dog born ? Here is the place , and a litte expensive and busy place , and has a long wood walk

The worst toilet in Scotland doesn’t compare to the real life horror story residing in the women’s public restroom on the Coney Island boardwalk. Every stall provided a Jackson Pollock-esque work in poo and urine. Literally overheard - “Forget the monster who did this, where’s the government.” Coney Island rides and boardwalk were nostalgic and clean. We had a lovely day, with the exception of the bathrooms.

I'm not going to spend long on writing this as it is an area that brings back bad memories. After the subway journey from Times Square; a free courtesy bus was laid on to take you the final mile or so (but had to walk back through a run down area feeling unsafe to the subway).
At first Coney Island presented excitement but late afternoon as the main crowds were thinning out, you soon realised that the area is rundown, full of prostitutes, druggies & notorious dens within shop areas. The fairground is really overrated too & but for Nathan's fantastic hotdog stand there's no real reason to go. I'm military & don't scare easily, but I sure felt uncomfortable at times.

Coney island is a tourist mecca, the beach is way overcrowded by tourists, so is the boardwalk. It is the perfect place to people watch. There are tons of rides and games. Depending on where you stay it may be a long subway ride, we came from manhatten took about an hour. You could spend all day here if you wanted, but get there early to get a good spot on the beach.

On our NYC trip at the beginning of March 24, we also took a trip to Coney Island. And I have to say that it's worth going there even in the off-season if you have the time. After a 45-60 minute subway ride, you can experience a nice contrast to the loud and busy hustle and bustle of Manhattan. Not much is open here at this time, but you can take a nice walk along the Atlantic and eat a hot dog at Nathan's Famous, which has been serving hot dogs since 1916.

Where’d the name come from? There are several stories, but the one I hear the most is “coney” refers to the rabbits that lived there. It’s not an island now, but in the past, it was.
Coney Island became a beach resort back in the 19th Century. By the 1880’s, it was the country’s largest amusement park area (there were 3 competing parks); the famous boardwalk (its actual name is the Riegelmann Boardwalk) was opened in 1923 and is 2.7 miles long.
The neighborhood is much improved in recent years and is once again a worthy tourist attraction. You’re near Nathan’s, the Aquarium and there’s the Wonder Wheel and the Brooklyn Cyclones minor league baseball stadium. Lots to do and see, but best in summer.

Nice walk, the weather was nice. It wasn't very crowded because Luna Park was closed. Not much to do in the neighborhood though.

We wanted to experience it. It wasn’t all that great. It was kind of dirty and it cost way too much for ride access especially when there weren’t that many rides to choose from. The employees at the ticket booth were very rude and not helpful at all. They had rather talk about what they did the night before than sell ride bracelets. They epitomized the stereotype of rude New Yorkers.

Truly enjoyed my time at Coney Island. Riding the rides. Eating the carnival food. Right on the boardwalk near the beach. Parking sucks but the park is clean again. Will definitely be back.

Coney Island is another location in New York City that I’ve never been to even though I’ve been to New York City many times over the years.. I made the trek from Queens with a little over an hour subway ride and found myself walking out of the station basically right to the boardwalk. It was a cool fall day and a bit windy but overall I could see the appeal of this place during the summertime months. With the boardwalk, the amusement parks, and the food vendors and of course the beach making Coney Island a must see during the summer

There are so many things great about Coney Island:
* the ocean! - it's pretty clean, not too crowded during the week (though it's CRAZY crowded on hot, summer weekends), has lifeguards during the season; note that the bathrooms are technically NOT changing rooms and can get pretty grotty
* Boardwalk - great, WIDE boardwalk. You can walk for MILES. (Really! You can walk almost 3 miles to Brighton Beach.)
* Cyclones - Minor League Baseball with a stadium RIGHT on the water
* Coney Island Circus Sideshow - weird and crazy and fun for all ages
* Coney Island Cyclone is a fabulous wooden roller coaster, probably the BEST ride at Luna Park and at $10, it's a bargain compared to some of the other rides.
* Subway - The BEST way to get to Coney Island is via the subway!
* Movies on the Beach on summer Mondays!
* Fireworks on summer Friday nights and New Year's Eve
* Special events, including: Mermade Parade, Sand Sculpting Competition, July 4th Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition
I suggest skipping Nathan's. You'll be stuck in a LONG line (They seem to have designed their process for INEFFICIENCY) for overpriced and not particularly tasty fast food.

It takes ages to get to Coney Island via the subway from Manhattan but if the weather is good it's well worth a visit. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beach. With the temperature being in the mid 70s it was nice to just sit on the beach and dip my feet in the sea. We had a good walk along the promenade and it was cool to be in a place that I had seen in so many movies.

Nice closest beach from Manhattan
Peaceful place with a perfect hot dog in Nathan's
Many beach lifeguards, very safe beach

We were there the week after Labor Day so no crowds. Not sure if that makes a difference in visiting. Easy subway ride from downtown Brooklyn. Nice clean beach with lots of things to do on the boardwalk and beyond. Friendly, family atmosphere.

Came here 8 years ago in September and thought we'd go back and see if much has changed. Unfortunately Luna Park was open so there wasn't much to see or do (unless your planning to visit the aquarium) we had a huge ice cream from Coney Cones and walked along the promenade but didn't stay longer than an hour. Perhaps when the Luna Park is open it's a bit more exciting. It's nice to be by the sea and watch the world go by but there's definatley some interesting characters. Many of the quirky shops have closed down now as well. Such a shame as Coney Island used to be a real gem but it seems to have lost its sparkle.

Have not been to the boardwalk for years. I was in shock at how nice it is. They really fixed it up. Great food and fun.

Went here over break while visiting family. Nice, relaxing, and being the last stop on the F train makes it super convenient. Shocking that an 1 hour train ride from NYC gets you to a beach. Because I went during early may and the amusement park was under construction, there were not too many people (though water was too cold to swim). Food at the board walk overpriced and not worth it. I had ordered pizza for lunch and was expecting ny pizza only to get what must have been frozen ellios pizza I could buy from wallmart. Other than that enjoyed walking on the boardwalk and will come again.
I am also the person who likes to find relaxing places to study (anything to take away the med school stress) and honestly coney island is perhaps my favorite place. Just put on some headphones, sit on the beach or a bench looking over the ocean, and work on my anki cards or question banks. Perfect to do here when not to busy and phone and computer are maxxed charged.

This place is amazing!
We got there from Manhattan by subway ($3 - 1hr each way) and it leaves you less than 5 min walking from the beach. Perfect to have a break from the busy and crowded city. There are many places to eat and drink and many shops, perfect to have a walk by the beach while having an ice-cream. The amusement park is a quite expensive but we got in a couple of rides and it was good fun! Really nice beach with white sand and it wasn't too busy when I went.
I definitely recommend this place if you are visiting somewhere near it.

We went in March so the majority of things on the board walk were closed, including the amusement park. But we still had an absolute blast. It is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The water is surprisingly really pretty. There's a long pier you can walk out onto the water on. It just a cute little area, even in March with almost no one there. And for my Taylor Swift fans, yes there are plenty of benches to sit on and wonder where your baby went ;) It's worth the subway ride in my opinion. I'd definitely go back.

Returning from a trip to Canada stopped to check off a bucket list trip. First stop Hot Dog stand. Waited in line 30 minutes to get the dog and it was worth the wait. Next stop dipped my toes in the water then on to walk the beach. I do not ride roller coasters so did not ride the oldest roller coast ever. Great time.

In the 70's, this was gang-turf, and everyone was on the menu. As a kid growing up here, I never understood why people would bring their families... It was dangerous! - BUT THAT HAS ALL CHANGED: It's cleaner, safer and there's a lot more rides and restaurants. This is a place with a colorful history and well worth coming to. You have the scariest roller coaster in the country, "The Cyclone" which is a rickety, 90 year old rollercoaster that makes you feel like you might be dumped out on Surf Avenue on one of the turns! You survive that, you deserve a hot dog and a beer from Nathan's, the best most famous hot dog place in the world! Snap into a dog (yum) while walking over to the brand new "Thunderbolt" ~ Strap in, get taken straight up, slowly, building anxiety and anticipation - Get ready, you're not just going to drop, you're going vertical fast... How's that hot dog and beer feel now? If you can do this w/o spewing vomit, you're "Coney Island Strong" (much respect). just those 2 things (w/hot bog and beer in middle of both) make it worth coming here, but there is so much more. A great place for couples, families, friends; I have even taken clients from out of town here! At night, Coney Island takes on it's own energy, you can feel it on a hot Saturday night. Beer gardens, food, date night, and some serious dancing on the boardwalk! Take the train, it's less expensive and more fun. Where a lot of train journey end and your fun begins. Don't forget your hot dog.

While its heyday may be long due, Coney Island is still New York's prime seaside resort. The southern end of Brooklyn is an once-lively waterfront boardwalk with an unparalleled old-world vibe. A stroll along the peaceful beach is enjoyable even if Luna Park is nor the reason to come.

It’s a great place to visit during warm months. Whether you want to experience various rides, have a taste for delicious food, or just want to stroll along the boardwalk, it offers it all and is conveniently located next to public transportation. Enjoy the view.

Coney Island is a great place for everyone. It's a great day trip if you want to get away for a bit from the busy city. Just a ride on the Metro will take you straight there.
It's a place just to unwind, walk the boardwalk, grab a bite, dip in the ocean, (if you dare), and it's truly great for families. There's lots of space for them to run, games and rides. A fairground along the ocean. Once is a must! Who hasn't heard of Coney Island?

Place not very under control playground where by booking you can't play all the games.
Beach full of glass and dirty sea
It can be avoided

At the end of a memorable trip in the USA, we decided to escape the madness of Time Square and head south from Brooklyn to Coney Island
A real breath of air and communicative joy , the permanent funfair with Roller Coasters the old-fashioned, the groups of over-excited children of the US Summer Camps, there is something for all (little) ages; my 2 daughters (16 and 22) returned in childhood
During this time, I was able to enjoy the waterfront and, above all, I went to visit the Coney Island Museum: for a small fee of $5, you will revisit the history of the amusement park illustrated by a large number of objects, photos, old elements of ride
You will also have the opportunity to attend a unique review reminiscent of the movie “Freaks”
Thank you to the staff (special mention to Alice for her kindness and availability) and to the curator who allowed me, exceptionally, to take a photo inside to share it with you.

Coney Island is seaside area in Brooklyn, New York where beach remains overcrowded by visitors. There are lots of entertainment like scary rides, beach walk, shopping and eating.

OMG worse than Blackpool, appreciate it was off season but so run down. Visited the MacDonalds near the train station and was so relieved to get out in one piece. Sadly it just didn’t feel safe.

Great place for young and old. Plenty of rides for the thrill seekers. The old time roller coaster the Cyclone was a family favorite. Did this twice right. The slingshot was awesome, but just a little too much for my 9 year old daughter. We went just before Halloween and the place looked great. Getting there is easy, just catch the subway and it takes right there.

It is not clear how tickets for rides and other activities work. We bought dino’s Park cards (1 per person believing that you could not accumulate on a ride when 1 card for the whole family is enough). If there is 2 euros left on each card you can no longer use them because they are not cumulative to the other...do not buy a Dino’s card , it is stealing!...know that it is rather Luna Park that he ft take and it is better to recharge the card than put bcp in advance...
The Park is good ... quite a thrill ride!! Otherwise the Park is very old, dilapidated limit when you see it during the day... The beach is very dirty!

A short subway ride from Manhattan is a California ambiance beach with a historic Attraction Park. Vintage attractions and some ultra modern! Credits on a dedicated card until we realize that the park is split in 2 with 2 competitors and 2 different cards!! Attention therefore ++++ 5 tractions made ultra modern and original as rollercoaster

I went to Coney Island on a hot wednesday morning. There were not a lot of people at the beach. It was nice to walk over the beach, see the rollercoasters and eat a hotdog.

Place apparently still in time. Relaxing stop for a great local beer in one of the old waterfront bars/fast food, admiring the mammoth beach and the beautiful vintage carnival.

We had a great trip to Coney Island a couple of weeks back. We took the N train from Queens Plaza, with a direct route to Coney Island-Stillwell Ave station. It was a lovely sunny day, and we had sandwiches and crisps in our rucksack. We knew the amusement parks, aquarium and Nathan’s wouldn’t be open (one week too early!) but we persevered as we decided to walk along the boardwalk and the beach. It is a lovely place in the sunshine and the park workers were testing many of the rides. We walked about seven miles along the beach and back along the boardwalk, collecting seashells and watching the world go by. There were a few other walker and joggers too: nice to see the place while it wasn't too crowded. We had a nice beer at Salt and Sizzle (on the boardwalk) too. A great way to spend a few hours!

We've been visiting NYC for the past nine years but this was our first trip to Coney Island and it did not disappoint!! The weather was perfect and we got there just in time to beat the rush at Nathan's Famous on the boardwalk. It was lively and packed and there were umbrellas lining the beach as far as the eye could see. We definitely want to go back on another visit and set aside an entire day just for "beaching". It's a long train ride but it is well worth it. Soooo FUN!!

Proper old school New York but pretty run down. It's about 45 mins on the subway from Manhatran. I wanted to go here as im a big fan of the film The Warriors 1979. When i got off noticed alot of homeless with drug and drink problems. You had to be careful where you walked ,as there was dog crap and human crap on the boardwalk. Also avoid the public toilets here on the boardwalk, they were stinking. I spotted human crap all down the outside wall going in. The homeless in NYC dont seem to get any help, which is very sad. The boardwalk here was in disrepair, with bits of boardwalk sticking up and splintered. You had to be very vigilant or you could have an accident. The beach is dirty and full of broken glass and God knows what else. Although its pretty run down. I did enjoy the live music, Djs, dancers and general atmosphere on the boardwalk especially in the late afternoon. Theres allsorts going on . Lots of hispanics come here so lots of salsa, meringue and calypso music and dancing. The boardwalk is full of fast food places and bars. With the amusement fare behind. All in all we enjoyed it here, even though its a dive. Its proper old school New York.

One of the best days you can have is going to the shore on a day off when its 86 degrees and this is in October. It was one of those fluke days when it was a warm summer day in October and I was headed down to the Aquarium. It was such a nice afternoon during the week and quiet.
It was amazing how many people were on the beach today, enjoying a beautiful sunny day in the 80's at the shore. People were actually swimming in the water and it was very murky and the police were yelling at everyone to get out of the water but people went right back in. To put your feet in the ocean and let the waves run over them after a long walk is the best. The water was so cool and refreshing I can not tell you how good it felt.
It was just a clear and sunny day and to be at the beach with your feet in the water there is nothing like it. Especially on a day that was 86 degrees in October!

It’s the most weird part of new york. But remember that amusement park is closed after August. I like it better that way, it gives you such post apo vibes! When at Coney Island, you need to go two places: retaurant Tatiana and Freak Show

Coney Island is a great place for a time out of the big city. There's a lot to do.
Colorful, funny, varied with theme park, beach and food stalls.
Unfortunately, the toilets were so creepy.
The 2 ladies who had constantly shouted that you should form 2 rows to queue, would better clean the toilets and floors more often.
also the tables at the Foodpossibilities are not wiped. You really stuck to it. So eating is not fun either.

This place is filled with wonder, whether its jam packed or half empty. There is a real charm about it. The food is great and the people are helpful. A great place to spend the afternoon.

I grew up in Brooklyn and moved away. I get to visit home very often, but haven’t been back to Coney Island since I was a child. The last and most rememberable thing about Coney Island was the white Roller Coster. I only got on it once as child and was so terrified I vowed never to do it again. It’s now over 20 years later and I’m grown now so I figured I have to do it again to see if it was as scary as I remembered. Well.... the verdict is in and it’s probably still the scariest Roller Coster I have ever experienced. It’s just full of constant dips and hard turns. It was amazing and exactly what you would expect from a scary Roller Coster. Except this time I didn’t hear the nuts and bolts shaking as if it’s about to fall apart as much. Probably because I was so scared of dying. Lol You must experience that Ride. Also the broad walk was great, full of positive energy music and people dancing. I love Brooklyn!!! You can go to the beach, the city skyline, loud music parks, friendly neighborhood walks and shop at great local boutiques. Brooklyn has it all. Lots of new people from all over the world but still the very best native Brooklyn die hards who can be found still smiling and offering the very best of directions.

We started by riding the Comet. The best wooden roller coaster! Nathan's food was delicious. The beach is wide and long and beautiful. The pier is well designed. The boardwalk is wide enough. Only complaint was the state of the washrooms.

While in New York we had a day out to Coney Island, we knew the fairground wasn't open as its February but we fancied a walk along the boardwalk.
It had been raining for most of the time we had been in New York but as soon as we arrived in Coney Island the sun came out and the day warmed up.
We found a bench and sat in the sunshine watching the tide and the world go by, it was lovely to just chill after the speed and madness of Manhattan.

Gorgeous place only one hour away from
Manhattan wish we had more time to explore . Teenage kids enjoyed Luna Park !

There is not much to do if you plan on going with babies under the age of two.even thought you can walk around and admire the place.the beach is perfect for family outings with little ones.Food and snacks are a little on the pricey side.

not worth time, money or effort, if coming from city. very limited # of rides. older slow loading rides, on the small side.

A good scapade from the city to enjoy the beach, fast food and if you are on the mood; tge roller coasters. Eady to arrive by Subway

We rode the train from near Barclays Center. We had Hot Dogs at Nathan's. Walked to the beach and as we were looking around a person started talking to us. We asked why there are so many Police vehicles with flashing lights going. He said they are trying to deter crime. It did not look that dangerous, but we did leave before dark and took the train back. Now we can say, Been there, Done that, Check that off the list.

We visited the Coney Island Amusement Park in
my beloved Brooklyn, New York for old time sake.
We had a great time walking along the wooden
boardwalk, the people watching, and of course
having a hot dog and fries at Nathans Famous.
Plenty of rides, arcades, restaurants and beach
activities.
Multiple NYC subway lines stop at the Coney Island
Station.
Enjoy!

The park at Coney Island is iconic, but in daylight, it looks rather garish. Prices are rather high, but if you exchange cash into ride-card and fill up with more than 80 credtis ($1 = 1 credit), you will get 40 extra credits. And you will need these credits, as the best rides costs 10 credits ($10) per person. With 4 people sharing the card, 120 credits lasted for only 3 rides each.
Although weather was perfect for a park-day, it was off-season, and the rides were almost empty. Most of the rides are for smaller children, but they have a few for the older thrillseekers as well, like the Thunderstorm or the original Coney island rollercoaster. This is the classic American rollercoster, and I can recommend this, just because it lasts so long!
The staff serving the different rides were mostly young people. The were rather unfriendly, and if you hesitated or tried to chose a seating, they would yell at you and command you to take the seat they decided.

If you’re going to the beach, you would likely run into some actual locals who live near the boardwalk. The same could be said true for the aquarium. Other than that, it’s mostly tourists.
Food is expensive and not very good, the rides at the Coney Island amusement park (Luna) are super expensive. $70 for all day rides for kids. Ridiculous. (Though you can find a better price if you think ahead and go online to buy your tickets.)
You can have a much better time by going onto the beach, taking your kid to the aquarium, grabbing them a crappy hot dog from Nathan’s and moving on.

An hour by subway and you are on the beach. Of course, you can also have Remmidemmi here! Luna Park has many attractions.

We took the subway to Coney Island to show the kids. They rode the Cyclone (of course) which is $10 per ride.
Coney Island seemed a little cleaner and less seedy than it used to be. A lot of the stores are boarded up and overall it is pretty run down. We keep hearing about new development but so far, it looks the same, and the smell of mold as you walk by the boarded up stores is pretty strong.

We were staying near JFK waiting for an early morning flight. Since we'd been to Manhattan many times, my husband wanted to go to Coney Island. Being there early evening on Friday, I thought it would be busier then it was. The beach looked nice. The rides were as expected, although we didn't go on any. Sadly, by time we arrived the aquarium was closed. We had a nice walk on the boardwalk. Was it worth the $66 cab ride to get there and the $50 ride to get back? Probably not. Unfortunately that was the easiest way to get there, as the subway ride is about a 2 hour trip from our hotel near JFK. So we were told. At least we can now say we've been there. Would I go again? No.

Famous Luna Park seen just walking on the Coney Island Pier. We couldn't go inside because we were with a very small child.
Very large with many different attractions, both scary for adults but also fun for children.
The walk on the pier and on the beach is beautiful, just watch out for the crazy and drunk people walking around.

Brilliant day out,,,
Very nostalgic with it being an old world type theme park.
With a bonus of the sea and beach too..
Very friendly people and staff and well looked after.

My wife wanted to visit having seen so much of the amusement park in the movies, it was both our first time. It was great, walk down the boardwalk, see the art work, grab a famous Nathan’s hot dog and ice cream and walk around the fun fair, and our favourite part. The classic arcade with all the 80s classics! A great laugh and easy to get to from the city!

Coney Island beach is true New York City Gem. It always gives the homie feel and its less touristy. You will see so many native new yorkers, real new yorkers with their families out on the beach. at times you feel like you are in a woody allen movie. the board walk is fantastic and so is the new attactions at luna park. Of course whoever visits must take a ride on the worlds first roller coaster even if that means having bruised knees. lol Over all its my fav place in brooklyn. For food you can always go down Coney Island Avenue, there are some great eastern european and South Asian resturans. You will not regret a visit to this part of NYC.

It is easy to get there by subway, it takes just over 1 hour but leaves you in front. It is an experience, everyone at the beach and parks are indigenous people and you find everything. Very good music from Puerto Rico.

With a sandy beach, a wooden boardwalk and dozens of attractions and rides, locals and tourists love to spend a day at Coney Island for some fun in the sun. It is famous for being an amusement resort with two theme parks still thriving today -- Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park. Coney Island is a peninsular neighborhood and entertainment area in the southwest section of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, bounded by Brighton Beach to the east, lower New York Bay to the south and west and Groves End to the north. Between 1880 and World War II, Coney Island was the largest amusement area in the United States, attracting several million visitors per year. At its height, it contained three major competing amusement parks as well as many independent amusements. The area also was the center of new technological events and innovations, including electric lights, roller coasters and baby incubators. Today, Luna Park is celebrating 10 years of rides and thrills with its Thunderbolt, the first ever steel roller coaster in New York City. It has been a thrill-and-chills attraction at Luna Park since it was introduced in 2014. But Thunderbolt is only one of eight roller coasters at Luna Park. Others are Coney Island Cyclone, Tony's Express, Steeplechase, The Tickler, Mini Mouse, Circus Coaster and Soarin' Eagle. Meanwhile, Coney Island also offers 11 dining venues, from Nathan's Famous hot dogs to Sweet Dreams for cake and ice cream to Tom's Coney Island for frozen margaritas to Ruby's full-service bar and grill to Al Cavallini's pizza to Half Moon Food Court for something of everything to Coney's Cones for hand-crafted gelato. Caution: Don't get a Chicago-style hot dog or a thin crust cheese and sausage pizza before taking a ride on the Thunderbolt.

Beautiful beach, aquarium, stadium, and amusement park. Would benefit from more free parking, veg-friendly dining, kayak & snorkel gear rentals, & a lot more trash cans.

we wanted to visit as we had heard of it, but we left early & a little disappointed, it was very busy, but also looked like it needed some money to be spent on the area to freshen it up.

I had to get down to Coney Island on my trip to NY as I am an absolute tragic of the 1979 movie Warriors. But wait this isn't a movie review. I had a fun afternoon walking along the boardwalk visiting some of the eateries, like the famous and original Nathans Hotdogs. It was a relaxing day, and I suggest if you have children it would be an amazing day out to ride a few roller coasters. Get down and have a look.

Had an amazing time! Traveled from FL for my sons 13th birthday to show him the place I called home...

We visited Coney island for the Mermaid Parade in June. My daughter was in awwww by all the costumes and festivities, but myself and several of the adults in our group were disappointed in the overall environment and lack of up keep on the boardwalk. Seems like it's really gone downhill over the years.

I'm not that interested in carnival rides, however, I very much enjoyed watching the Parachute, a former ride that after being damaged by Super Storm Sandy was taken apart, and put back together as a platform for a non-stop light show. It's a hoot!

I grew up here, so I'm partial to the sights and sounds of the beach and the boardwalk. Come by day to swim and go on the rides--I dare you to ride the iconic Cyclone and swinging cars of the Wonder Wheel. By night, the landmark Parachute Jump is ablaze in LED lghts. See the weekly fireworks during the summer or bundle up for the fireworks on New Year's Eve. Street parking is difficult but there is a paid lot.

Enjoyed a day of sun and relaxation. People watching, reading, sun and of course the famed Nathan’s hot dog!

Everyone heard about Coney Island. I wanted to see it. Boardwalk is somewhat shorter than I was expecting. Restrooms are dirty as all seaside restrooms probably... walking on the pier was great. The beach is well tended. Beautiful afternoon.

It’s pretty old and attracts a lot of unusual people. Lots of comfort food and boardwalk attractions.

sat on a bench and wondered where my baby had gone. the fast times, the bright lights, the merry go. sorry for not making you my centrefold :((.

We had a wonderful afternoon at the boardwalk! The rides were fun, and the food was fine. Once the lights turned on, it got magical. The wrist bands should have an all-day option rather just than four to five hours. The bathrooms were absolutely gross and needed attention.

I used the Sightseeing Pass to gain access here. You can go on most rides but have to pay for some of the big ones.
Although the weather was STUPID HOT I loved this place. Easy to get to on the subway and there’s loads to do. Rides did not have such a long queue which was ok. The beach was nice and the place was generally clean. I would deffo come back!

Visited Coney Island in winter because I find funfairs and their environments in the closed seasons to be great sources of photographs. As I am used to Dreamland Margate, to Blackpool and the small fairs found along the coast of Southern France I had good expectations for Coney Island. Everything shut as expected, but drab and behind high wire mesh fences. Not worth a visit unless you like a vry wide boardwalk. The other attraction for me was to try the renowned "Nathans" hot dog. The restaurant was very busy mostly young parents and their children. Noisy out of control and apparently feral. The hot dogs were a disapointment too, after all the publicity I have seen, nothing worth travelling to the end of the world for, chips were ok. Felt this was the bottom of the scale for american food. Very depressive Give Coney a miss in winter, there are better places to visit and food to eat in NYC including all the other boroughs.

First off, Coney Island is a Brooklyn Treasure and a must see. However, it is dirty, worn down and the bathrooms need to be completely demolished. My favorite take aways, the classic rides, the family beach, and Nathan's Hot Dogs - its been there since 1916. Hey Brooklyn, take better care of one of your best treasures.

I didn't like this place at all and was so disappointed. It was dirty, crowded, expensive parking, and just carnival rides.

We were there on a sunny day and unfortunately only one track was open. The metro ride was very exciting because you cross the bridge next to the Brooklyn Bridge.

Went to a Cyclones game, then walked the pier and the boardwalk. It's such a party at night with dancing and music and drums and food and lots of tchokes for the kids!

Although I do see comments from people who did not enjoy, and considered the place outdated and dirty, it was a dream come true for me to visit such an emblematic place in the world! I felt I was in a vintage movie and enjoyed every second! The beach was cleaner than I thought it would be and that was a very pleasant surprise. The Luna Park is fun for everyone, I only went into one ride, the haunted one and laughed so much at myself for being scared at it, had a blast really! I would totally recommend for anyone visiting NY if having extra days, as if not, I would maybe spend it seeing the most famous spots. I not only had enough time but being my 7th time in NY, it was finally time to visit! Went there by train from Manhattan and it was just 1 hour ride. Loved it!!!

Travelled on metro a must in New York .we couldn't believe our eye's .The fair was LIKE going back in time .The beach and promenade were beautiful .

Perfect to get out of the world New York, beautiful place, quiet, solar, it feels good to end up Coney island!!! Even if the luna park is a little aging! Take a refreshment at Ruby's and try their jukebox for $1. ENJOY

Definitely plan a trip here when you visit NYC! Coney Island has been on my list for several years and I never had the time to visit before, so glad to finally be able to visit this iconic park! Weekday late morning visit. Ate at Nathan’s, rode the Wonder Wheel, walked the boardwalk and had frozen cocktails! Great activity for everyone! There were people fishing off the pier, we saw someone catch a stingray!

If you love fun fairs, roller-coasters, or just a sandy beach this is a must. Stroll the promenade, sit on a bench, or take a thrill ride on a roller-coaster. Plenty of promenade cafes and bars serving ice creams, hot dogs, and shell fish.

A place recommended in case one is travelling with kids. Ride park is the main attraction and kids just love it. There is a beach and nice broadwalk. Washrooms are there on site This place is at walkable distance from subway though ride is bit long in case you are staying in Manhattan. Rides are from all levels from small kids to young adults.

I'm sure this is a great place to visit in warm weather, but we visited on a cold, windy, rainy day. I loved the visit, anyway. It was the first week in April of 2019. I really wanted to get to the beach, to check out the ocean. We stopped in a few of the gift shops that were opened, and in the candy store. Sorry, but I forgot the name. It was a cute little candy store. We had lunch at Applebee's, and it was delicious. Sadly, my photos are not accessible, for me to post.

We visited here to go to the amusement park and see the Friday night fireworks display. Good range of places to eat (including Nathan’s). Lovely to spend a few hours out of the city and on the beach instead.

A beach in New York?? Yes it's possible too. Coney Island is a attractions park but not for free pf course.

Coney Island is a Brooklyn neighbourhood, beach and one of NY's top entertainment/amusement destinations in the summer as it is a source of perpetual excitement. Hundreds of thousands of people, locals and tourists, flock to it's beach, thrill-ride in Luna amusement park, which revived this area once suffering from years of neglect. Street performers abound, the Circus Sideshow offers a jump-back to amusement parks of yesteryear and the Mermaid parade is a circus unto it's own. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not trying one of Nathan's Famous hot dogs, as well as taking in (July 4th) the yearly hot dog eating contest (Think: 74 in 10 minutes) executed by very serious hot dog eating athletes (Prize: $40K). The summer is laced with lots of events and special activities to keep patrons exhilarated.
Since my childhood, I have always wanted to go to Coney Island. I haven't been to an amusement park in 60 years when our Parish would treat alter boys to a yearly splurge at a Montreal amusement park (Belmont park). This park was certainly very adrenaline mild when compared to Luna Park rides. I have visions of amusements such as fun house mirrors, bumper cars, ferris wheels, sword swallowers and fire eaters and other vintage amusements and rides. As I toured Luna Park, I was impressed as my astonishment focused on the magnificence of the machines, the complex engineering, the apparent defying of the laws of gravity and the capitalizing on the kinetics of motion.
I read the specification plate on the Thunderbolt ride, a 115 foot tall roller coaster, with 2225 feet of track jacking up speeds to 55 miles per hour. It turns riders completely up side down in a 100 foot vertical loop. This is faster than my whipper-snippers. I would have to have a pair of senior diapers on, to ride this baby. Or how about the Sling Shot which hurls riders 150 feet into the air at 90 mph. Just the name of this machine musters up illusions of jaw-dropping sensations.
You have to be wired a certain way to cope with the gyrations of these rides and the numerous others like it.......not me. So I moseyed on over to Luna Park Sunny Beach
where the rides were much more laid-back in a fashion and more suitable for families and kids. I rode the bumper cars and other softer vintage-category rides (Wonder Wheel & others). The day was over fast and I was glad to unwind back at the hotel with the only thing to worry about being, what I might find in my underwear.
For a great destination for overall family entertainment...Try Coney Island..............Brace Yourself.

LOVE Coney island. Gorgeous beach which is miraculously kept pristinely clean. Love the food on the boardwalk. Tons of fun and I really love the water - clear, clean, perfect temperature, and calm.

You all need to figure out some stuff. If I buy a card it should work for all the rides. I need to carry cash so a small purse the size of a fanny pack shouldn’t be a problem. And shoes. Really you guys? You are literally located on the beach… who wears shoes? Figure it out. Or lose more people. It isn’t hard. Cedar point has fewer rules.

No point. An impression of an abandoned neighbourhood. Many subway times from Manhattan to spend 30 minutes on site. Disappointing.

Travelling from the UK, this place reminds you of Blackpool / Southport. Has a bit of a dodgy reputation (especially if you're old enough to have watched Warriors). We travelled during the day in August and felt perfectly safe. After a very long subway ride from 21st Street/Queensborough Bridge on the F, it was nice just to walk the boardwalk. A visit to Nathans is a must for a hot dog. The fair itself is very pricey. With a very weak pound (thanks old people & the countryside), the small ferris wheel was $10 each, same as the Cyclone. If it's hot & you're a pasty white northern European take an umbrella = there's hardly any shade.

I've been going to Coney Island for many , many moons & although there have been some small changes Coney Island has withstood the ebb & flow of N.Y.C. & Is New York City through & through ! Don't miss the Cyclone , big thrills all around & Luna Park has so many rides for kids of all ages ! Nathan;s Famous hot dogs are still Great & try the onion rings - crunchy outside & sweet inside ! & Coney Island is a great place place to visit !

I had a family member staying in Brooklyn and we decided to go visit her. We are not familiar with the area But had heard of Coney Island and the rides so I thought It would be fun to go walk the boardwalk. I can honestly say that other than the Sandbar Tavern, which drinks and food were unexpectedly good, my experience on the boardwalk, and the beach itself was absolutely horrendous. My heart broke for our oceans. the amount of garbage on the sand being dragged by the tide and people just completely ignoring garbage hitting their feet is something that although I knew existed, had never witnessed before. I’ve never seen such a large group of irresponsible and careless people. It was devastating, to say the least.

Not very crowded, as it is late October. Nice to visit Coney Island, walk the boardwalk, see the beach and the ocean.
Must be so much fun during the summer months when it's hot and the water is warmer.

We stayed on a Friday from afternoon until late evening, at 9.30pm very beautiful fireworks.
Typical American atmosphere with various stands selling food and drinks, families with children, boys and girls having fun in the amusement park and the very wide seafront.
Lots of police so the area seemed very safe to us.
The Wonder Wheel, the tallest and oldest Ferris wheel in the world was a fantastic experience.
Good burger at Ruby's and typical atmosphere.
Everything like in American films and TV series

The staff was rude, paid 81 dollars for not even half of the rides, food over priced for nothing bread was stale, had to pay extra for some of the rides. It’s ridiculous…

A beach day in New York is a great experience!! You can take advantage of the playground behind the beach and take a nice roller coaster ride! All just an hour’s subway ride from Manhattan

Please Fix the Boardwalk up, repair and thoroughly clean and Re-open the public toilets and the First Aid Stations please. Access was easy from the train station and the walk was pretty to find. There were few shops open and prices were expensive. Found a decent lunch at Nathan’s which offered beers as well as regular sodas and thick Ghirardelli’s shakes that were truly wonderful. Foot washing stations were few and far between and only one was working. Homeless people peeing off the covered seating area in plain view of everyone. Lots of flags informing folks of the swimming conditions. Only saw 3 life guards. No seaside smell which was odd but a pleasant change.

Since I first watched The Warriors, if ever I went to New York, I said I’d go to Coney Island. Think of it as a warm, windless Blackpool. Expensive fun fair, long promenade, a pier and a train station right in the centre. The sand and beach are lovely, could easily have spent the whole day there.

It was fun but I can get the same experience at any beach carnival. The rides were ok and the people running them were rude but it's a nice beach.

Took our family of 5 for a visit to Coney Island to swim for the afternoon and amusement park for the evening. The beach was littered with broken glass and trash. It was terrible.
The amusement park rides were very expensive. The games and food were reasonable. $62/person for a 4 hour ride bracelet or $10/person/ride. It would cost our family $50 dollars to ride one ride together. Or over 300 for bracelets. That's more expensive than the most major amusement parks in Canada. (Canada's Wonderland is 50 for the whole day)
Fireworks every Friday through the summer, were very good!

New York, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Bronk tt magical the most beautiful trip I've ever taken and it was the Christmas and New Year holidays and even more unique

Coney Island is a classic New York landmark. Definitely worth a visit. There is a very large amusement park (Luna Park) with plenty to do. Also lots of food options and an aquarium. It is very easy to get here by subway from Manhattan.
When I was there it was very crowded and I could see potential for a younger child to get lost/separated from the group. I would recommend having a meet-up spot just in case, and holding your child's hand as much as possible.

Our first visit to Coney Island and we were pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Because we went in the fall it was likely not as crowded as it could have been otherwise. Food was typical for an amusement area but acceptable. Took a ride on the Farris wheel and it was fine but kind of high priced for the short duration. Had a very nice time there.

Coney Island was on our list when we visited NYC 5 years ago but for some reasons didn’t make it. We planned better this time and here we are. We chose a working day morning, took the subway (from Upper East Side, more than an hour trip per directions). We got off the sub at Brighton Beach and then took a walk by the ocean to Coney Island Beach and the pier.
Overall, it was nice. With an almost empty beach and boardwalk, with no lines at food stalls, perfect weather and ocean, with all the attractions in the amusement park not crowded, you really have no reason to complain. The beach was clean, the boardwalk was clean, I could not say the same about the public restrooms. Lot of space on the beach to lean your towel.
So, if you’re a tourist, go there during the week.

Highly recommend for the summer months. I've gone multiple time every summer for about 3 years. There are always a lot of people, so of course be vigilant with your personal belongings. Most people are great about watching your stuff on the beach if you ask them and they also have lockers if you are really concerned about your stuff. I have vertigo so I can't ride a lot of the rides but when I am able to, they are so much fun! Highly recommend Thunderbolt, Cyclone and WonderWheel. They also have a zombie shooting game and a haunted house. Not suitable for children but thrilling for anyone else!Go to Nathan's for the hotdogs or the fish and chips and also make sure to spend the extra $$ to get a cocktail and take home the souvenir cup!

I was very excited to come here just for the cheesiness of it and having seen it in films. Very easy to get to from Midtown. Good on a warm day to dip feet in sea and just have a break from city noise.

Always wanted to go here and finally did it. We live in Ocean City and have a boardwalk as well and this boardwalk rivals this hands down. We went here during the off season, so everything was closed, but I can imagine all the activities being open and all the people out there having a great time. We didn't walk the complete boardwalk, but what we walked it seemed to be well taken care of and wide. What I really liked it that you can take one train from Times Square to get here. And it's directly across the street from the train station - very easy walk or wheelchair ride. It's perfect if you want to get a beach day in while visiting Manhattan - I think the train ride from Times Square took an hour.

Coney Islamd is an extension of Brooklyn. There's lots to see; it's an amusement park.. There are various entertainments at a variety of prices. If you get bored, take a stoll on the boardwalk. This is New York, not Orange County, it really is just for fun. If you get hungry, have some popcorn, or a Nathan's Hotdog. By the way "coney" is old English for "rabbit." The beach is what an Atlantic oceanfront should be.

Four long years ago, I made a vow to return the following June to see the storied mix of King Neptune's Court meets Mardi Gras, the Mermaid Parade.
As you can imagine, things didn't work out so very well with that idea. But I persevered, and planned my 2023 return around the aquatic celebration.
Bring from another coast (and ocean), I was interested in what the eastern shore of Brooklyn was like. The sand and surf were wonderful, I arrived early just so I could take a beach walk.
Like any proper visitor, I had a late breakfast Nathan's hot dog, then wandered among the vendors. Chicken of the Sea, one of the parade sponsors, was giving away free pouches of tasty kinds of tuna, and some colorful fans, while a local hot sauce vendor caught my eye (and my taste buds!).
I staked out a spot directly opposite the judging stand, so had a gull's eye view of all the participants, and even got on the local news (according to a pal who claimed to have seen me that evening). The scene was amazing, and the artistic creativity of the marchers was just phenomenal.
The only disappointment was that The Cyclone was closed due to the winds. I'd hoped to take a ride, so now I'll need to return for that next trip.
The subway ride to Manhattan was filled with costumed participants headed home. Fortunately, the weather held for the parade, though at one Brooklyn station, it was pouring buckets, but two stops away, the sun was out.
I am so glad I persevered to visit. The whole spectacle was amazing and I feel lucky to have experienced it. I'll definitely plan to come back. Maybe next time, I'll march as a California mermaid!

Great luna park! Beach! Sand! Animations! Russian quarter! Very interesting to includd if more than lne week visit in NY!

It is a resort on the Brooklyn coast, easily accessible by subway N-line. There are beaches, amusement parks, aquariums and boardwalks, so you won't get bored after a day. However, it is a playground for locals, so there are not many tourists. Our son loves the sea, so he could spend some time sunbathing and relaxing on the beach.

Not many people think of it when they travel to NY but its a great get away for the kids or couples who might want to snuggle up on the Ferris wheel. Don't forget to join the long and i mean LONG lines to get your famous "Nathan's Hot dog" and although the Luna park seems pricey, try to imagine how much you'll pay per ride including side show alley when you pay around $70 and everything is included. By the way, Don't do the thunderbolt ride straight after the hot dog ;-)

The beach was completely filthy & littered with trash. We went in a Sunday evening, safety seems like a major concern. I would not recommend.

We visited shortly after the regular season so it was a little quiet. although the stores were open and some restraints were serving. Of course the surf was wonderful to walk thru and it was fairly clean except for the dead rat that was still there when we returned 8 days later

Coney Island is the perfect mix of nostalgia and excitement! The beach, boardwalk, and amusement rides create a lively atmosphere. Highlights include the iconic Cyclone roller coaster and Nathan’s hot dogs. Great for families, friends, or solo trips. A must-visit for classic NYC fun!

I bit dull in the late fall. Once needs to come here in the middle of the summer, maybe on a hot day, when folks are on the beach and all the amusements are running wild. Eat a hot dog.

Kinda stinks because it is not open for summer until memorial day and so we couldn’t swim, also most of the shops are closed

If you’re in New York City for long enough I would recommend a visit to Coney Island (in the summer anyway). We got a direct subway train from Herald Square, which took about 40 minutes, the train was quiet and we had a seat all the way there and all the way back. The beach provides a good respite from the busy city.
The boardwalk is very big (wide) so it never really feels busy. It’s made up of what feels like quite old wood which is bumpy in places with a few rogue screw heads here and there so look out for that. Not sure how wheelchair friendly the bumpy boardwalk is so maybe check other reviews for that.
The amusement park obviously isn’t in the same league as Disneyland but that’s what gives it its charm. We didn’t really go into the amusement park so can’t comment on how good it is or the prices etc.
The beach we did visit and there’s more than enough room for everyone we had a nice hour relaxing on the beach and the sea wasn’t actually too cold. Top tip the sand got super hot so don’t attempt to walk back to the boardwalk without anything on your feet.

Been here several times for a short visit out of season. Usually walk to the beach. A few amusements to entertain the kids and adults and a nice boardwalk. Public restrooms nearby, not to clean, but clean for Brooklyn I guess.
Its not a direct view of the ocean like other beaches, but still waves, sandy beach and things to do.

It was nice to see the local community gathering there and enjoying the weather. Saw many families and friend groups. I really liked the music and dancing, probably one of the liveliest places I went to in NYC. Food and drinks were a bit overpriced, and it seems the idea is to eat while walking, which is kinda sad in my opinion (especially if you are walking through the boardwalk for hours and desperatedly needs to rest).

I have gone to Coney Island's famous Hot Dog eating contest at Nathan's, on July fourth, and I have gone to Coney Island's Mermaid Parade for years: Both of the above are a lot of fun to see If you go, I highly recommend wearing a crazy Hawaiian shirt, to be part of the colorful crazy atmosphere there.
But I had never gone to Coney Island's New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge:
I had seen and read about Coney Island's famous Polar Bear Club for years. It's been around for like over a century. The membership is capped, but every New Year's Day they have a Polar Bear Plunge, and the public is welcomed to join them. And join them they do by the thousands. I'm like old, and it was on my bucket list; so I told myself, it's now or never--"put your man pants on, man up, and do it!" Yeah! that's what I'm talkin' about! So I got my skinny butt out there New Year's day 2020. I didn't have a clue, but before I knew it, I was in the icy waters of the Atlantic smiling and yelling with joy. What a great way to wash away 2019, and to celebrate the coming New Year. In short, it's a blast. You'll be smiling for days after because you did it!
It's best to go with friends. Wear your bathing suit underneath sweatpants. Something easy to get on and off, cause you will be cold after (duh) Most people change on the beach and have someone in their group watch their clothes and belongings. Bring a camera or smartphone and take pictures/video: in and out of the water. The Plunge is very well organized and safe. There are NYFD-NYPD boats in the water. Divers in wet suits, Medics, and ambulances for your safety.
People are in costumes, are dancing on the boardwalk, before and after the plunge. You will start dancing; it's contagious. There are no frowns anywhere. After the plunge, a lot of people go to Ruby's bar on the boardwalk for alcohol: and a fine bar it is.
Be sure to register and come a little early (there are signs and people everywhere to show you, and it is quick) Though not required, give a donation if you can--it goes for good causes. At registration, you will be given a colored wrist band, and they will tell you what time your colored wrist band (wave/group) will enter the water. It sounds complicated, but it's not at all.
I plan on doing it every year. It is such a positive experience. The people there are great. You even get a certificate stating "You did it!" Well done Coney Island Polar Bear Club!

First visit!
While we have been to NYC dozens of times over the years, this was our first visit to Coney Island.
Take the subway from Midtown all the way to the end of the line and you'll find yourself back in time. This quaint seaside town hearkens to an era of parasols and bow ties.
The charming boardwalk, long pier, and carnival rides and games brings back that childhood nostalgia.
We ate at Nathan's for lunch, walked along the boardwalk, rode Deno's Wonder Wheel, strolled down to the end of the pier and ate an ice cream cone before heading back to the city.

I expected worse but I was pleasantly satisfied... a must the amusement park and a ride over the Ferris wheel was mandatory... as in the movies!

We went here just to check off bucket list. It was just ok. Old run down carnival and the restaurants are kinda dirty. My hubby was so excited to get a Nathans hot dog but was unimpressed - he said back home it tastes better. Not sure it was worth the hour subway ride from Manhattan. A homeless guy was going up to everybody and swearing and yelling in their face, while the cops just sat there and watched. It was strange.

Coney Island is a big permanent carnival on the beach with a boardwalk. Lots of horrible fast food places and loud music.

The cyclone is every bit as good as advertised. It is by far the best non inverting roller coaster. The wood track design perfectly augments all of the sharp banked turns and intensifies the clickety clack, resulting in a perfect, yet delicate, balance between a free-flowing ride and the jerk/snap of a critically damped reverberating rider feedback.

We had a great day at Coney Island as part of our holiday to New York. Nice, sandy beach - but get there by about 10.30 to get a spot near the water. We found the american people really friendly so there was a nice atmosphere and Luna Park is a must! Loads of rides and hardly any queues (early July 2019). Kids loved it. We loved the boardwalk too. We had Nathans hotdogs which were much better than I expected. Lovely day, highly recommend it. You can get there easily on the subway too.

I have been to Coney Island three times, twice in the spring and once in the summer. The Ferris wheel was a blast, but there was no line in the spring. The prices were reasonable for the rides. I also got easy street parking both times in the spring. The boardwalk was always nice for a stroll. For Fourth of July, I had food at Nathan’s, I saw the hot dog eating contest, and I thankfully got there via subway. While I found Nathan’s to be pricey, I had to go to it. On July 4, I would say to expect crowds, attitudes, and long lines, but the brag value is insurmountable.

This is an excellent example of a traditional American seaside resort complete with fairground attractions.
The attractions are rather old fashioned these days but that is part of the charm. It is a very popular place for families with children. There is also a huge broad walk and beach.
Well worth a visit if visiting NY with time to spare.

Couldn’t go to New York without going to Coney Island , we were really lucky as we visited in late October and the weather was great, 25 degrees. We went on a Sunday as I researched that the park was only open at weekends during the autumn although I’m not certain about this .Our visit was via a coach trip so we were dropped off right outside the amusements without having to find our own way from Times Square.
It was a lovely day ,sea , sand , walking along the boardwalk and enjoying Nathan’s famous hotdogs , so glad we went .

I have had many experiences when I go to Coney Island and I hope a I have better experiences when I go when I get older. The rides at Coney Island are really fun but some of them are scary but I still enjoyed it anyway. Some rides that I love going on is for example like the Thunderbolt, cyclone , the Electro spin, an finally the Wild river. When I go to the beach that there is I like to go in the water play games like manhunt, tag ,and make stuff from the sand like sand castles.

My visit was in mid September to avoid some of the intense crowds and traffic assorted with a resort area. Although the rides were closed during the week at Luna park, I still felt it was a worthwhile trip. The beaches are wide and clean with a variety of shops along the board walk still open. A pier along 17th street allowed for a great relaxing view of the coast line without sand in your shorts. Plenty of changing pavilions along the beach (which you don't always find at resorts). If you want to avoid summer crowds, a September visit is worth it for a day at the beach.

Not worth it. It is deteriorated and poorly organized. It gives a feeling of insecurity. Very shabby. They charge you for each attraction separately. Poor quality restoration.

I didn’t get to visit Luna Park, as it was closed. I did get to check out the whole island while deserted during COVID 19. There was a lot of debris along the street. Most things were rundown, but that’s part of the nostalgia of it I think. Paint faded and peeling. Nathan’s hotdogs is everywhere, but I wasn’t impressed (see prior review). The boardwalk is an interesting sight, with lots of vendors and games. The beach is nice and clean and there is a fishing pier. It might have a more fun, jovial feel when everything is open and everyone is out playing games and having fun, but this would not be a place I would normally go. Oh, and the D train will always take you to Coney Island, but it’s a long trip from most places.

This is a great way to see another side of NYC if you are visiting. Take the train out (it will be long) and walk around--- is a classic juxtaposition of the festive and the downtrodden. Not your typical amusement park nor your typical beachside boardwalk. Less gritty than it was years back but still quite an experience. And the Cyclone is still one of, if not the best coasters anywhere. Absolutely classic.

To walk on the famous boardwalk was amazing. It was a Wednesday morning and quiet so almost had it to ourselves.
The beach was clean and pleasant to walk on.
A good range of stalls and food outlets make this a good place to just hang out.

Manhattan is of course great but do yourself a favour and take the subway to last stop on the line and visit this iconic place. Just fantastic

Coney Island is the perfect place to close a tour of New York and its neighborhoods. Being there feels like being inside a movie: an amusement park full of color and energy, right next to the beach and the sea.The combination of games, Coastal Mood and that relaxed summer vibe make it an unforgettable experience. An iconic and beautiful place that reflects the essence of a carefree day in the city.

Bought the tickets online, upon arrival the staff at the gate says my son can’t go on any rides with a cast on his arm.
Nowhere on the website when you buy wristbands it said it’s a restriction. The only restriction is the height.
Additionally, staff produced a paper showing what kids of disabilities were allowed in the park. Plenty of rides showed “upper extremity, 1 fully functional “, which was our case.
We argued for 1.5 hrs, the kid was sobbing, staff didn’t care.
Eventually, we wondered over to Deno’s next door. The kid could go on any rides without impeding his or anyone’s safety (apparently, the reason he couldn’t go at Luna park)
Since we are only visiting New York, we didn’t know we could go next door. The staff at Luna park didn’t show any heart at even suggesting we try elsewhere. Sobbing disappointed kid - don’t care. Making up rules just to play safe, covering up with “it’s for your safety” - sure.
Oh, and they won’t refund.

Cool exotic experience after the hubbub of the city
With a small mandatory visit to nathan’s
To be redone

It‘s definitely a tick off a to do list to visit the beach and fun park at Coney Island. Just over 1hr metro ride away from Manhattans Columbus Circle, you can escape the heat of the city at this massive beach. Huge and clean promenade, music, beautiful walk along the pier. Public toilets are quite ok for an outdoor place. We had a delicious pizza and enjoyed a few hours. It gets quite packed in the afternoon. The ride with the magic wheel, overlooking the ocean and the shore was very enjoyable. (2 rounds for USD 10]

To disconnect a moment from the continuous sound of the horn and the frenzy of the Big Apple Recommendation a trip to Coney Island where you can find great restaurants, ice cream parlors and of course beach and funfair with some very nice and fun attractions!!
We tried the famous Cyclone, one of the oldest roller coasters in the country, in fact it's a lot of fun and the curves and salts come down are quite 'rough' but it's worth it!!

Visited with a group of four adults on a NY vacation. Had great expectations that were all ruined within the first 50 steps out of the subway. Ate food at a place that had horrible service and barely consumable food. It appears the last bit of upkeep invested in coney Island was probably in the 80’s. It’s Disney prices for a rundown traveling carnival experience. Save your money and go somewhere else. This was a sad place.

Neighborhood, especially the amusement park and the beach, dirty and insecure. Beach covered with rubbish including glass shards, various packaging, cups, .... very loud music everywhere. Pass your way, don't waste your time here.

I haven't been to Coney Island in years. I love how old school it feels. The boardwalk is fun to walk around. We didn't swim, but the water looked clean. There are tons of places to get snacks and drinks.

Spent the day at the beach to eat delicious terrible food, go on the rides and swim in the ocean. NYCs version of the Jersey Shore. Great to get away and have a beach day in NYC.

Everyone has heard of it, no one seems to have been. To be fair its quite a way of Manhattan. Passed Avenue U (thats not a typo) at the very bottom of the city.
The subway journey in itself is an adventure. When you reach it you are pleasantly surprised. It’s known for two things (at least this side of the pond). First: Funfair, Second: Hotdogs.
There is one thing that seems to get missed by almost everyone, beach, promenade, water etc. It’s a proper little seaside just an hour from the megatropolis.
So let’s deal with what I won’t be dealing with, Nathans, not a fan, the end.
The fun parks (there are several) are all joyously old fashioned with all the sights, smells and noises you expect from such things. It’s wonderful and on a sunny day its packed to the rafters with people from all over the world enjoying speed, screams and ice creams.
The rides vary in sizes and vomitability so there really is something here for everyone.
The beach is proper lovely. I could almost have thought I was in Santa Monica as opposed to Brooklyn, I was throughly impressed with the wide open space, crystal clear and sparkling sea (not sure if its actually the sea).
I beg you, if your ever in Manhattan, take a day and go see Coney Island (the elephant hotel is long long gone).

A great trip to make though I can't really explain why.... It's iconic status, it's cheesy carny atmosphere, the very diverse population, Nathan's Famous Hot Dog. We didn't walk the 15 mins or so to Brighton Beach, a very Russian area with Russian food etc which I regret but we were broilled. Nor did we go on any rides. (Everyone said we should ride The Cyclone, which is 100 years old and made of predominantly wood but I hate rides anyway)
I'm really glad we went. It is quite a long subway ride (50 mins from midtown ish) so you need to put aside probably half a day. It's pretty gritty and you don't see many wasps or tourists there. Huge blocks of public housing behind the boardwalk stretch. My husband swam.
The most democratic beach in NYC with all bathing cultures of the world represented

So sad. Like a demilitarized zone. Middle of August, warm day, empty. Amusement park seemingly abandoned. Homeless and drug addicts yelling at passers by. Police everywhere. This place is supposed to be for family days out???? I’d read it was low rent fun but the place was joyless and the atmosphere was grim. The flip side of Manhattan. We turned around and went straight back. Just terribly sad.

Coney Island is iconic for many reasons: The 2.7 mile-long beach, the Riegelmann Boardwalk, Luna Park, Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, Nathan's, Paul's Daughter, the Aquarium, the list goes on and on. In a city that's rapidly getting more expensive, it is still possible for a family to spend the day at the beach, go on a few rides and still have enough money to pay the rent.

Coney Island has a large beach with a boardwalk. Not as great as Atlantic City's, but still a nice place to walk around and relax, or sunbathe on the sand. They also have an amusement park and aquarium here.

Our visit was great! The rides were well maintained. My daughter enjoyed it! The boardwalk was so beautiful as well! Overall worth the money.

It was off-season and so we didn't expect a lot. It was good to walk along the boardwalk - it's a long way end to end. Luna Park was shut and so not much life around. We walked down the pier too. We had an ice cream but didn't try the famous hotdogs.

Easy to get to on the subway.
Beautiful beach, and walkway between the beach and theme parks.
Lots of places available to get food and drinks.
Purchased a ticket online for Luna Park for a specific date which is much cheaper, picked up at the gate with no issues.
You have to pay separately for the Wonder Wheel.
Lots of gift shops too.
Really enjoyable day out.

During our holiday in New York, we lived in Brooklyn's North Slope neighborhood. Coney Island is a popular adventure for everyone in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Families, including children and parents, love Coney Island. The exciting adventure with roller coasters attracts everyone. Coney Island is neat the beach; access to Coney Island is easy. Prices are reasonable. By the way rabbits were known as "coneys" in days gone by.

Lovely walk on the boardwalk passing frolicking folks at the seaside. Make sure to ride on the wonderwheel and the carousel. Have a snack at Nathans; clams and hot dogs.

We didn’t get a chance to fully experience Coney Island. We took a long subway ride over from Manhattan…the plan was to pump(I’m a new mom) and then have fun…after 45min of pretty much the run-around(employees pointing me here and there) I was told there was a medical room I could use to pump. I finally found the room and the staff would not allow me to pump…even tried bathroom or just a random outlet to plug into and there were no hookups in the bathroom and I was told I could not cover myself and pump on their outdoor outlets… I had to leave the park and go over to a Starbucks just to pump. Just horrible that in 2024 a theme park doesn’t support breastfeeding mothers!

My wife and I went to Coney Island with my granddaughter. She had a great time on the various rides. it wasn't so busy which allowed us to enjoy the rides without long wait times.
Of course, we had the traditional hot dog - we had a good family time.

We had a disgusting customer service experience at Coney Island/Luna Park/Wonder Wheel. We were given "comp credits" because a ride broke down while we were in line. We than added more credits in cash so that we could use them on either Wonder Wheel or Cyclone. At Wonder Wheel and Cyclone, we were told that the comp credits don't work. We tried speaking to an associate AND her manager, only to be told that neither had the authority to refund us and that we would have to wait in Guest Services. There was an obscene line in Guest Services, probably with people with similar issues, so we decided to just leave. I truly hate to use this word but this entire experience leads me to believe that Coney Island/Luna Park/Wonder Wheel in general is a scam. They basically stole our money by making it extremely difficult to get our money back even if the issues at hand are not our fault (i.e. broken rides, comp credits not being accepted, asking for a refund). We plan to stop charges for the credits purchased for the broken ride but we probably can never get back our cash. Coney Island/Luna Park/Wonder Wheel, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves for making it so difficult to get back a measley $20 altogether. You will never have my business or recommendations ever again.

Visited whilst in Brooklyn, got the subway down from Manhattan. Massive funfair right on the sandy beaches. Plenty of eating and drinking places with a fabulous boardwalk to enjoy the views and area.

Coney Island in the south east corner of Brooklyn is probably best known for its amusement park, and it’s been drawing in the fun-seeking crowds since the 1880s. It’s a great place to visit, and there is certainly something for everyone here. I’ve been a number of times, and whilst it’s quite a lengthy journey on the subway from Manhattan, it’s a fun place for the thrill-seekers, the beach lovers, the photographers, and those just wanting a leisurely stroll along the wide boardwalk.
The area has two designated amusement park areas: Luna Park, and Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park; but there are other rides and attractions which are not incorporated into either amusement park. This includes the steep Thunderbolt ride, which is always accompanied by loud screams. There’s a couple of historic rides who love that kind of thing. The Wonder Wheel which opened in 1920 is a bit of a Coney Island icon, and should be experienced at least once. It is a steel ferris wheel with both stationary cars, and rocking cars that slide and jolt along a track. You can choose the type of car you sit in; the rocking car gives a more interesting ride, but whichever you choose, you’ll get some great views of all of Coney Island. Then there’s the ancient Cyclone in Luna Park. It opened in 1927, and iis one of the country’s oldest wooden roller coasters still in operation. It includes quite a steep drop as it rattles around on its wooden frame. Those looking for something more sedate may try the B&B Carousell; it dates back to around 1906.
The beach here is also a big drawcard, and on a warm day it is packed with sunbathers. It’s a clean and well-cared for length of sand that stretches unbroken for some 4.3 kilometres. It is patrolled, and there are ample bathroom and shower facilities along the way. Adjoining the beach, and stretching the full length of the beach, is the broad Riegelmann Boardwalk. It’s wide and flat, and suitable for those using mobility devices. Land side, it's lined with all manner of food outlets, souvenir stands, and the usual tat that fairgrounds offer. There’s plenty of choice for eating and drinking, and plenty of places to sit. There’s also a small pier on which you can walk, and the New York Aquarium to visit. There’s also the reasonably pleasant Maimonides Park, though it was empty on my last visit as everyone was on the boardwalk or pier.
It’s a fun place to visit and there is something for everyone. Once you exit the subway station, just continue walking straight ahead, past Nathan’s Famous restaurant, and you’ll end upon at the waterfront. There’s lots of street murals around the area that are worth checking out, and some good restaurants if you are looking for a substantial meal. I’ve always enjoyed my visits to Coney Island.

Though the beach was nice, the businesses nearby look run down and the amusement areas are lackluster. The public restrooms were disgusting and limited to one main building. As a female traveler, I would not want to be in this area after dark.

We headed out to Coney Island on a Monday morning just to see what it looked like. It was our first visit to NYC and we’d always heard about Coney Island. We enjoyed walking the boardwalk, seeing the beach and admiring the wide spaces. The restroom however, was a horror show. Nasty, cluttered, filthy, complete gag-fest. Stay away, stay very far away. How can they not have staff on hand to clean this place? Otherwise, Coney Island looked like a nice place

It was on our bucket list and we enjoyed it immensely. The beach and the pier were super clean and family friendly

I can’t give it 2.5 stars out of five but that is what I’d actually have given the experience. It is so iconic, I felt the need to drag my family here on a recent trip to NYC. Here are some pros and cons from today’s outing:
Pros: Loved the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone. The cyclone is surprisingly thrilling probably because it is in no way up to modern safety code anymore! Even my teenaged daughters thought this 98-year old coaster was the best one there!
Nathan’s hot dogs tasted great and they had plenty of workers there to keep the lines moving.
Cons (strap in…it’s going to be awhile):
My biggest gripe would be the pricing of the rides. Ugh! We paid over $200 for 3 wristbands for my kids and that was the discounted online rate! ($80 apiece for teenagers + $50 for my 6 year old plus tax). As if this wasn’t bad enough, my son’s did not cover the racetrack and we would have had to pay an extra $26 for him
AND a guardian to ride. I about lost my mind at the ticket counter at that point. A belated apology to the poor girl behind the glass!
Nathan’s came to $90 for 7 basic dogs, 1 FF, 1 onion rings and 3 fountain drinks. This is to be expected I guess.
We parked near the ball diamond which was only $13 but there was garbage and weeds everywhere! Please make this place look pretty again!
There was a pervasive weed smell at nearly all times and people selling crap along the beach like you’re in a Caribbean country…even you guessed it- weed! And watch yourself on the beach- broken glass everywhere! And competing LOUD blaring music. You might think it was festive. We thought it was annoying.
You can’t take anything on rides so you have to keep using lockers. But since phones are locked, it makes communication with family members difficult.
In the summer it’s very hot and there are few areas of shade. Prepare to bake and sweat.
It’s just so dirty all around. My husband even saw a huge intact dead fish and a whole
Bunch of dog crap in the alleyways by the rides. That about sums up the day. We all couldn’t wait to get the heck out of there!
Go if you must but keep your expectations LOW and remember- you’ve been warned!

We were walking on the world famous beach and I almost stepped on a sharp broken glass. I looked closely and realized it’s a Corona beer originally from a Ruby’s bar located at the boardwalk.
The Coney Island is basically an illusion. Lovely to look at but be aware of the hidden risks.

Maybe it’s better to visit here during the off season because the summer months are really busy or I went on a really busy weekend in June. Ate at the famous Nathan’s hot dog stand and if it’s on your bucket list then do it but all the same as other places that sell them. Like going to the first Starbucks in Seattle when it’s the same at other locations. Now the reason for the 3 stars is that the beach is not all that nice, looks nasty and there are way nicer beaches on Long Island. Also it’s a parking headache and expensive. A highlight though was getting a lobster roll at Paul’s Daughter food stand. Worth the price, lotta lobster in that roll. Not that all interested in amusement rides but there are a lot of them there if you’re into that and if you enjoy watching wild antics by some people then this place is for you.

Yes, it is too crowded and too warm. And the rides in the amusement park are probably not the most advanced. But this is such a classic, with such a wibe. The people watching at the beach is quite something and this is just an unique experience.

Coney Island to me seems very run down and outdated. I wouldn’t go out of my way to stop here. Food is underwhelming and it is just not a friendly area. Parking is terrible and the beaches are littered with trash...

This was the first time we had been to Coney Island. We were glad we went to see it. It was very dirty and worn down. Trash laying everywhere. The bathrooms were very out of date. It was nice that you could just walk right off the subway to the entrance. But that was the only good thing we seen.

I came down to Coney Island for the Annual Mermaid Parade and it is really an experience. It is like a drag show, a carnival and costume parade rolled all into one. Between the bands, costumes and games, it really is an experience.
The parade continues with bands on the beach and the unlocking of the sea to open the beach for the summer. That was an experience because the beach was so crowded, the lifeguards had to keep shooing everyone away.
The whole area was so packed the whole day and the beaches were crowded. You have to experience the parade at least once if you come to New York over the summer.

Had looked forward to see Coney Island after seeing it so often on TV. Major disappointment. The rides are ok, but otherwise it is quite shocking. Be careful on the boardwalk- it could do with some repairs. The toilets were either closed or broken, filthy and a health hazard. People were actually heaving. The place needs investment to improve it. There are far better things to see in New York.

What a Dump, Seedy run down area with expensive rides. Tacky souvenir shops and a rip off Hot Dog Shop which is ultra modern, standard hot dog and soggy cheesy chips. Took 45 minutes on subway from Times Square to reach this highly anticipated resort and was true oy gutted. Not worth the visit.

so first we bought tickets again with tiqets app we choose a day and 3 days later we so that going to be vert hot , i wrote to the service to change the date and few hours later its was arranged
we woke up in morning was heavy rain so i checked in the site but looks that the park will be open
we took the subway straight to the park the rain almost stopped the park open at 11.00 am , we where almost alone there
it was great
i have 3 kids 21,17,9
so everyone find his own place and there few roller coaster for everyone
the small kid wanted to try everything but he could do only few
there not much roller coasters for the big one but there’s other park like six flags we wanted something solid
the tickets not includ the cyclones roller coaster u need extra fee
u can get out from park to the promenade
its very nice there u can relax look at the beach and sea and can eat some hot dogs ice cream
and return to the park
the park is on 4 blocks and in our tickets we could enter to 3 of them
again the big wheel not included in price
its was fun nice for 6 hours
so if u want park but solid one that the place 8/10

Coney Island is awful. It’s sketchy, dirty, unsafe and the rides are run by unprofessional people. I just went there and wish I could delete the memory of that dirty, nightmarish place from my mind. If it was ever good it certainly is not now.

Spending the 4th of July on Coney Island this year after pandemic lockdowns was fantastic! The rids, the vendors, Hot Dog Eating Contest, fireworks. Well, true 4th of July experience in NYC. It got a bit crowded towards the evening, but overall was a great family outing for us. We will return again in a less busy time to visit Aquarium and hang out at Brighton Beach.

Decent place for the summertime. Rest of the year this location is pretty dead. There is absolutely nothing to do here during winter time so I give it a solid 3/5.

I am so lucky to live at this part of Brooklyn! The long line of sandy beaches, fun for kids and First Nathan's Hot Dog stand.

It's a 90 degree day and you have teenagers in New York City who don't want to walk around so what do you do? You hop on the train and after an almost 90 minute ride you will be at Coney island in Brooklyn. I must say the water was beautiful and clean with no seaweed and no bug waves. There are some rides there which remind me of the small family run amusement parks of days gone by. But it is a gritty place. It was full of families on a Sunday afternoon/evening. The sunset there was beautiful! Almost like a freak show people watching sometimes. It wasn't a total disappointment but don't expect the Riviera. You must go at least once and check it out.

1st Coney Island is a town of around 30,000. A diverse population from poverty to hidden riches. Then there are the boardwalk and amusement parks. The amusement park is full of rich history. From the “Weird” exhibitions to the Worlds first rollercoaster. In general, Coney Island is full of rich history, memories, and great stories. It will never be forgotten.

Travel from Times Square, takes an hour with subway. This places is a bit strange, very worn out attractions but the roller coaster Cyclone still has it´s thrill. All in all I would say that Luna Park is worth a visit, but avoid the beach, which is very dirty and disgusting

So glad we visited the iconic Coney Island! Had to visit as a big Warriors fan and pleased to have done it on a warm sunny day with great views along the beach.
Worth the hour long subway ride from manhattan, we saw people fishing off the pier and family’s out enjoying themselves. Visited Nathans for a hot dog and had a coney ice cream then sat and had a few cocktails & people watched. Great to relax away from the city on a nice day.

Disappointing that at this time of year the park is opening only at a weekends. I imagine that if it were to have been open we would have been enjoyed the amusement park. However that’s about all there is to Wow you. The beach and cafes are pretty ordinary. Glad we went though as it was a tick box off our list as I wanted to visit the scene of the film The Warriors and it does make for a more low key environment to give you a break from lively NYC.

You will be a child again, So much to do, such lil time in a day! Be a child again. Allow yourself! Do it!!!!

Basically this is a horrible place that’s too noisy, too honky-tonk, too crowded, too tasteless. But go with the idea that you will just enjoy what the place offers. The beach is really nice with an expanse of sand and salty ocean water. Take a dip. Then walk the boardwalk still made of real wood (no longer sustainable in other beaches) and marvel at the rides with screaming teenagers (go on the rides if you haven’t yet had lunch). Listen to the too-loud music and eat some junk food at the many stands, particularly Nathan’s ( the fries are good).
Although it’s a beach, Coney Island is really more of an urban experience attainable by subway.

My review is biased since as a little girl it was a favorite and frequent family outing usually sponsored by an organization in our family church in Newark New Jersey . I remember beach and sand, and shoe boxes full of tuna and other sandwiches, boiled eggs, fried chicken fruit , and home made cake
My daughters(not a teenager) treated me to a day for my milestone birthday, hadn't been in over 50 years. It can't compare to todays theme parks but I rode the rides, including the infamous CYCLONE for old time sake , sat on the boardwalk and reminded myself of days gone by and feasted on Nathan's hot dogs and fries.
A great nostalgic day for me; but games at $5 a pop - it could get very pricey for a family

Its coney island what's not to love good food and drinks plus nathan's hot dogs plus fun for all ages ryding the cyclone is a must trust me you'll thank me for it 👍

I live here and I have made statements before that it is safe to hang out in Coney island
I'd like to retract that statement and take it all back
This year has been the most shootings the most deaths in Coney island of any other summer or year so far..
I don't understand what has changed so drastically
But it is seriously like the Wild Wild West almost every single night with the gunshots and people being shot randomly and killed....
Again I do live here but I'm seriously thinking about moving at this point

We visited Coney Island on a day off from work on a Friday. Our main destination was the aquarium but we walked the boardwalk and ate at Nathans. Honestly the place is run down. There are several broken boards on the boardwalk, some with nails sticking out. The murals are lovely on the walls. The beach itself was clean. Nathans was super expensive and not tasty whatsoever. One thing I did notice was that for a seaside town, they aren't very environmentally friendly. Restaurants sell bottled water and use straws. Also there were cigarette butts, plastic cutlery and straws all stuck in between the boards which was highly disappointing. It was off season so the amusement rides were all closed.

The boardwalk is fun with a variety of places to eat. The shower stations on the boardwalk can get crowded and parents were giving kids complete showers so they were hogging the shower stations whilst others were waiting. The fruit vendors seem to be numerous also and were even blocking the exit from the boardwalk. There should be some restrictions as to where the vendors can set up. The beach is nice and very refreshing and there were no loud boom boxes near to us.

Took the sub here .. it’s very dated and rides are expensive. Would I visit here again? Probably not. Good to say I’ve been though. Had a Nathan’s hotdog and some fries, which were ok.

Nathans has always been my favorite when traveling to the beach. Never missed the opportunity to stop by Nathans for the Franks and Fries and a Sweet Tea.

Brighton Beach was lovely, and it’s nice to have bathrooms close by. Easy to walk to the shops and restaurants and of course it’s all close to a Metro stop.

Definitely an oasis in Brooklyn. Only in NYC, you can take a subway to a few different ocean beaches. Not the nicest or cleanest beach but plenty to do and see.

Went down to Coney Island via Brighton Beach yesterday morning to smell the ocean breezes and fried foods and wasn't disappointed. We started at the western edge of the boardwalk in Brighton Beach and quickly found ourselves in the midst of Luna Park and the Wonder Wheel. Lots of bathrooms, lifeguards, changing areas, showers, and places to eat to cover all your needs. Beach volleyball nets a-plenty, and mats over the sand to help folks with wheelchairs or other issues with walking over the sand.
Walked as far as the Ford Amphitheater and then back to the subway via Nathan's

Coney Island in Brooklyn NY, is our family and friends best of best place to visit. Decent prices, well knowledgeable staff, plenty of police presence, amazing food, candies and huge parking lots. The water clean as well as the beach, visible lifeguards and beach patrol. They have movie night on Monday's and fireworks on Friday's, seafood is divine. I'll always recommend Coney Island. Going solo, with friends, family or even children is always fun.

This is a historical place that must be seen. Many areas are really vintage and others remained untouched for decades giving a strong feel of the past, and how it used to look like when it was in its prime. The 1920's world famous cyclone is still operating with its original and scary wooden seats... scary because you feel every move and every curve makes you feel as if you will fall off... scariest rollercoaster ever! I highly recommend being there at least just for a look!

So I cycled here all the way from mid town Manhattan which was about 13 miles and took me 2 hours - it was raining. When I got there, the place was closed, deserted. I met a very nice policeman in his Segway and had a go. Apart from that, I cycled back again

The rides were fun and it was not busy. Staff was efficient and get lines moving well. My family and I had a great time. Will visit again.

If you decide to go to Coney Island, Brooklyn parking is very difficult so get there early. They have a nice collection of rides. The Cyclone and the Thunderbolt are must ride rollercoasters in my opinion. However, the cost to go on rides is insane! I can go to 6 flags great adventure and ride the rides as many times as I want versus 1 ride at Coney Island.

One of my favorite places. Just avoid the worst crowds by going to the right or the left on the sand- unless you want to be in the middle of dense crowds. I love the boardwalk food, the water is clear and calm and clean.
It IS a city beach so it can be a bit dirty but considering how many people use this beach it's astonishing that it is as clean as it is. If you go away from the most crowded areas, more towards Brighton Beach, it gets less crowded and cleaner.

After a long subway journey from 50th we were hoping that Coney Island would offer lots of fun at the faire..! Unfortunately we didn’t realise at this time of year the faire rides and amusements were closed. It was a glorious sunny warm day so we walked along the beach, queued for a famous Nathan’s hot dog and spent money in the gift shops with the mainly unfriendly staff..! I’d recommend going when the whole place is open..!

Having been to NYC a few times I wanted to do something different so headed out to Coney Island for the day. I was expecting a bit more to be honest. The boardwalk only has shops and stores for about 1/2 a mile and the food and attractions are way overpriced. Worth doing but only if you have 'done' all there is to do in Manhattan.

if you have no intentions going on any of the rides or have children with you that will be going on rides, there is no need to purchase a $20 wristband. Apparently, the wristbands are for entering Luna Park. We were 4 adults and only planned on going on a few rides and just enjoy the boardwalk and the food. The ticket attendant was made aware of that and did not communicate the best options. We are 4 educated people and all 4 of us got a different understanding, we wasted $80 bucks shame on them for allowing us to purchase just to walk around. Bottom line is if you are accompanying a child who will be enjoying the rides, you would need that wristband to get into the park. A few of the rides like are not even in the park and tickets could be purchased separately for those rides. There is also a section where there are rides that the purchased wristband would not allow you to go on those ride. We are going to write to guest services and put in a formal complaint for a refund.
All in all, we did enjoy the boardwalk, the food and each others company. I rate a 2 for Coney Island Staff.

A perfect blend of old and new, clean beaches and the water is lovely. Good food close by including Nathan's, Coney never fails to be a great day out. Although we want to try further afield and Rockaway too next time, we will always return to 'The Big CI'

Good atmosphere, many young people and adults to enjoy the games and equipment that the park provides. Affordable prices for these times and lots of food and music. It is worth spending some leisure and remembering the stages of youth!

Went here as a kid, and I guess that is who this place is for. I have to say that it was clean on the boardwalk, but to me, overpriced and tacky. The rides are expensive and short, but if that it what you are into, you will probably enjoy your day. To each his own.

I am in love with Coney Island! It is a street photographer’s paradise! Winter or summer, it is always fascinating and fun!

I went down to Coney Island for the first time since last summer. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of the amusements and the aquarium are still closed.
The beaches and the Boardwalk are open and most of the restaurants are now open too but with more limited seating so there is life at the Boardwalk. The beach was crowded but people did their best to stay apartment from one another as best they could with the amount of space on the beach.
It was a beautiful day and people were swimming and having a good time. It was just hard to wear a mask when it is the beach. This will take some getting used to in the future.

A nice place to visit to take a beautiful walk along the seafront and see a huge amusement park
Recommended for a half day away from the chaos of Manhattan

We have been to Coney Island in memory of the movie the warriors.
We enjoyed our time at the park, there are many rides and we didn’t had to wait in the line for long.
Big beach but sadly not really clean even if there were people cleaning it. We advise to go eating an hotdog at Nathan’s.

Is the amusement park and the beach of New York. Three line of subway connecting this area to the city (1 hour about) The beach have some equipment to do your workout. The amusement park have many carousel you can buy a ticket for all the day or buy the single ride (very expensive) No problem for eating or drinking there are a lot of bar and vending machine (the credit card is avaible) everywhere

.....Coney Island has always seemed run-down and gritty, which was part of the appeal. The park is now a confused mix of old and new. The old carny vibe now seems less authentic, and more contrived, than before. The food is all mediocre. Worth a visit to ride the old cyclone and wonder wheel for nostalgia's sake. The sleaze factor is still there but the charm fading away......

We spent a lovely sunny day with my elderly wheelchair-bound mom. She enjoyed sitting on a boardwalk bench overlooking the sandy beach while eating a Nathans hot dog. We were also able to wheel Mom up close to the shoreline on one of the access mats put in place by the City of New York. A simply lovely day!!!

Awful. The beach is dirty.Too many people there. You can't go to true to water without stepping on someone staff. Annoying/loud music everywhere. And the weed fog is natural already. And make sure night time you not going parallel streets because very dangerous.

The charm of the first carnival in history does not beat. Funny, vintage, full of positive energy, it really feels like a movie.
I would avoid the beaches in front: really dirty.

What a great place with a good vibe. Visited on a lovely hot day and walked around the beach and boardwalk. Also had a ride on Cyclone which was fantastic! Only downside is that there is very little shade to escape the sun on hot days.

When you have been to all the other tourist attractions put this on your list. It takes about an hour by train. The day we went a big electrical storm came through and the rain was heavy but we walked to the end of the jetty and saw everyone fishing. We saw the sideshows and people winning the prizes. The rides looked really scary

We were in NYC visiting other attractions, but always wanted to visit Coney Island. Well, the beach was nice, the boardwalk was pretty clean, bathrooms DEPLORABLE, and too many "pop up" food places with expensive pricing. I can only imagine how crowded the area must be in the summertime. Nathans is probably the only restaurant worth trying, it was very rundown and the area was depressing. At least I can check the box that we "visited"
Coney amazing
Especially came to New York this time so we could visit Coney Island
It’s so iconic, we really wanted to experience it
Took train from Bryant park early Saturday morning.
Wow!
It was a beautiful sunny day in late October but felt like summer
Lovely views, sandy beach, boardwalk and funfair
We love The Lost Boys film and Coney really made us feel like we were there!
Definitely recommend you go
Funfair was the icing on the cake , along with a hotdog from Nathan’s
