Go To Eagle Falls for a better experience!

By Jessica R |

Cumberland Falls was great, but very commercially run in the main area. They had most of the sites to walk out on blocked off. You can not swim in the falls or around it!

Eagle run on the other side of the falls was a blast. The trail is a good hike with decent difficulty. At the end it comes to falls which you can swim/jump into. Beautiful views at the end of the Cumberland Falls from afar.

Wonderful waterfall

By Chris H |

Been here several times. Always impressive. Beautiful falls. The moonbow is not what you’re expecting. Be prepared to fight the masses on nights of the moonbow but it’s a very peaceful place the rest of the time. The road there from either Somerset or Corbin is a curvy roller coaster.
Don’t know why they don’t trim the trees where the moon comes up so you don’t have to wait for it to rise so long to see the bow.

Very nice curvy drive threw the mountains! Nice place any day! Adventure with spectacular views!

By Yehbut |

My wife and I took a cruise to this wonderful falls located in Cumberland State Resort Park! We were just in time for a day rainbow! There are so many trails and waterways in KY! This one is located in the middle of mountainous terrain! The parks crew makes sure everyone is safe, but common sense does come into play! The falls are dangerous and you should pay attention of your group and the little ones! Bring your bike, kayak, or running shoes and have a blast! They have camping sites in and around the park. Bring your snacks and pack a lunch there is no we’re to get a snack FYI! Nice view of the falls and you can even get down right below them! Clean bathrooms with a cool nature environment!

A Must

By Jim L |

Stayed in a Woodlands cottage. Very nice. Staff were amazing. Falls are beautiful. Go to falls in the morning to see the rainbow on sunny day. Falls are a 3 minute drive from lodge. Could not hike trails but looked nice. Dining room was not open for eat in so we got carry out. Catfish and KY Hot Brown were great

beautiful falls

awe inspiring falls, short walk down. Had a picnic lunch there, went back several times. Lovely clean neat park

Stunning Falls, Disappointing Trash

By surfsidecl |

The falls are beautiful and mesmerizing. The drawback, which significantly takes away from the beauty was the amount of trash on the banks at the base of the falls. I can't help but think about the impact on the natural environment from the aquatic life rippling out to the surrounding life on land.

Just overnight but glad we did.

By capt281 |

My wife and I were traveling from N Kentucky to the Great Smoky Mtns NP with stops in between. We stayed at Cumberland Falls Resort State Park (not to be confused with Lake Cumberland Resort SP) and were impressed. We rented a cottage (at near motel rates). The place was clean, well maintained and quiet. Well, as quiet as one can be using air conditioning. The beds were comfortable, the staff knowledgeable of the area and the hike from the lodge to the falls and back moderate (slope on return hike). If one chooses you can actually drive to the falls. We went on another local hike and meet some locals that were very friendly showing us some off the beaten path adventures. We had lunch and dinner at the restaurant in the lodge was adequate. We definitely did not go hungry. Prices middle of the road.

Cumberland falla

An easy hike in to a great Falls. Very family friendly even with smaller kids. Limited services so pack accordingly. If you go early in the morning the chance of seeing wildlife is greatly increased.

To expensive to stay there and limited menu

By Judi Spencer |

Mid week we thought maybe a nights lodging would be fun at this lodge with a good buffet as we had stayed there before but the price of 150.00 for a room was out of our budget. Disappointed we still thought we would have lunch only to find out they didn’t offer the buffet. I ordered the soup and salad and it was good my hubby ordered the chicken, mashed potatoes and carrots (no salad, just basic meal and no bread/ roll) and it was just as good.

Must see!

By JessicaG0623 |

If you are heading through this year please do yourself a favor and make time to visit the falls!
My family enjoyed it very much and walking on all the paths were great and easy to do!

Make it a weekend

By Shane D |

April 2021- made a nice weekend getaway. First day came to see just the falls, able to see everything we wanted. Gift/snack and restrooms were operating. Second day hiking around the falls. Several trail start right around the falls so you can easily spend a day going to each. We then came back to catch the moonbow. Check the dates for the moonbow and bring your camera/phone.

New Years Eve Cumberland Falls Lodge.

By Jill M |

We went to the lodge for the New Years Eve event. The rooms were nice, worn a bit but cozy and clean. The food for the event was delicious. The event was fun, nice people, great DJ. Over all a fun experience.

I would like to try the cottages. Cumberland Falls is a must see. Make sure if you’re in Corbin KY. You go the The Wrigley Restaurant. Yummy!

Cumberland Falls was a beautiful place. If you love nature, you will enjoy yourself. Check out my review of the hotel.

Cumberland Falls is beautiful. You will enjoy yourself. Check out my review of the hotel. I did a review of the Woodlands which is a group of cabins next to Dupont Lodge.

Hiking visit

By smrini17 |

This state park was recommend to us from a coworker. It was amazing! The falls are incredible and the park offers so many landings on the side of the paths for different views of the falls. Dogs welcome. The gift shops and coffee cafe at the park were nice and had a lot of cool souvenirs.

Great nature and comfortable cabins

By yulia |

The cabins are well maintained, comfortable and have lively porch to sit and enjoy nature. Haven’t seen much wildlife: only a few birds, a squirrel and lots of fireflies))). Oh, and stock your fridge, the area around is a #food desert. The restaurant in the lodge is OK, but very limited menu.
Lots of trails, amazing views and of course the falls!!! And the moonbow is real, visible with your naked eye and a very popular attraction to everybody, including people who shine industrial brightness lights in an effort to see something best visible in the darkness.

Wonderful place to spend a few hours.

By Greg P |

Beautiful falls and great outdoor environment. Nice walking and viewing area. Small restaurant available and rest rooms. Great place to relax and enjoy nature.

Fantastic Fall family getaway

By kyboston08 |

This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. We had a great time horseback riding and doing several trails (Eagle Falls and part of Cumberland River Trail (2) ) with an 8 and 10 year old. The cabins were in great shape and we loved having our own private space and porch. It was also nice to be able to walk from cabins down to the trails without having to park at a trailhead.

BEAUTIFUL WATERFALL!!!

By pondgal |

We traveled to eastern Kentucky to see friends and the Falls. Both were wonderful. The Falls are so beautiful and calming!!! Our friends had 4 children and they seemed to enjoy the place as much as we did!!! Our ages ranged from 5 to 83 and we all had a great time!!! The teens went fishing and the younger kids loved climbing the rocks (not too near to the Falls). The gift shop had some nice things to bring back at reasonable prices. The walking was doable for the 83 year old and everyone else. Couldn't ask for more!!!

A Somewhat Disappointing Stay

By Cherrie M |

We had visited the “moonbow falls” before and had always wanted to stay at the lodge and eat in the dining room overlooking the fast flowing river, so you can probably imagine our disappointment in learning that we would have to trek half a mile down the road to a grungy little order-at-the-counter grill, get hamburgers to go, and have supper in our lodge room! The following morning, breakfast was waffles to make ourselves, hard boiled eggs, a little cereal, and energy bars, all in a crowded meeting room. Not exactly what we had imagined! However - our room was clean and well appointed, we were able to open our windows and listen to the river, and of course the falls are always spectacular. So all was not lost. Next time we’ll make sure the restaurant is open before we book a room!

Beautiful falls and mountain scenery.

By euby1957 |

Visited the falls yesterday, and the amount of water flowing was astounding. All the rains have caused the water to flow way above average. Stayed at the Dupont Lodge and ate at the Riverview restaurant. Wonderful getaway.

Worth going out of the way

By TKB71 |

I am sure going to the Cumberland Falls State Park is worth visiting for a few days, but we decided to do a quick visit as a detour on the way home. We had spent a few days in the Red River Gorge area and I decided to add the Cumberland Falls to the end of our trip. It was out of the way a couple of hours on our way home, but we headed out early to allow for this extra trip within a trip. We were all glad we did!

Getting to the falls is easy -- there isn't too long of a walk from the parking lot. There are several vantage points to provide different perspectives in viewing the falls. We found the falls to be absolutely beautiful and the walk to the different viewing spots is relaxing.

While Cumberland Falls is sometimes compared to Niagara, I didn't find it to be nearly as dramatic , but in the flip side, it is much more peaceful and relaxed, and not as touristy. Still it is a very beautiful site well worth a trip out of the way.

Breathtaking every time

By Christine P |

Cumberland falls was our playground when I was in college. Magnificent to see and watch evolve throughout the seasons.
A sense of majesty and historical permanence is renewed with each visit. DuPont Lodge is a gorgeous vintage but updated modern, comfortable inviting place to stay while enjoying the falls and surrounding woods.
A sensational natural wonder.✨

Peaceful and Beautiful

By Ashley Lane |

Me and my husband went here twice, the first time it was just me and him the second time we took our daughter. This is a very beautiful and peaceful place to go and the hiking trails are amazing. If you're hiking, make sure you take the Eagle Falls Hiking Trail, there's a very beautiful and amazing surprise at the very end of this hiking trail.

See The Falls!

By rzahm |

We have passed this area several times on trips to Florida and this time we stopped. So glad that we did. The drive back to the resort park is beautiful. When you get back to the inn and cottages the views are awesome. We toured the inn and will plan to stay on our next trip. The Cumberland Falls ate a mile from the inn. You gotta see the falls. They are in a beautiful location, with huge boulders, cliffs and the falls! The park area has a cafe and gift shoppe at the falls. This state park is worth the trip.

Relaxing afternoon

By Bunny |

Restroom facility were well lit and clean . The view was Amazing and the Gift shop lady's super friendly!

Nice Moonbeam Falls

By Moiaussie |

We parked at the parking lot close to the lodge and hiked to the falls, approx. 0.75 Miles. It should be noted that the natural rock stairs are very steep at times, also one needs to be careful not to stumble over the roots and stones on the way. We saw many wildflowers and also the Mountain Laurel were starting to bloom. The fall seemed like a very small version of Niagara Falls. Perhaps due to the rain, the water in the falls were quite brown. The large rock formations were gorgeous.
There is a clean bathroom on premises. Parking is free. I should note that one can drive all the way down to the falls, no hiking required. Entrance to the Park is also free. There is a gift shop close to the fall. Also picnic tables, which several people took advantage of. One can rent cabins or stay at the lodge, if desired.

Always beautiful!

By allyouneedistara |

I hadn't been here in a long time but it seemed bigger than I remembered it! Loved the short walking paths to see the falls. Also very nice gift shop. There are places to picnic and hike here more than the short path. It was a good time! Glad we stopped!

Breathtaking

By Trip4AWeekend |

Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest, this beautiful waterfall is worth the hair pin twists and turns to get there. All you hear is the roaring water and birds as you breathe in fresh air. Worthy of stopping and checking out. Make sure you hit the photo opportunity spots.

So much fun!!

By kathy4117 |

Wonderful place! Stayed in woodland cabins, loved the room, the second night we had a tiny visitor, a black mouse who enjoys pretzels left out carelessly. The pool was wonderful! Good sized and everyone was so nice. Beds were comfy. Noise level was non existent. Plan for 2 or 3 days at least, there is so much to do and see.

Very nice and beautiful scenic views

By Ryan |

On my way back from a business trip for my job. I decided to see what would be a good place to stop at for a tourist attraction and Cumberland Falls was the first to pop up it was only 10 miles off I-75 on 25 west and the would actually bring me further down to I-75 on the road back out to i-75. As far as the park it self it was a beautiful place and the waterfall was a very short walk from the parking lot. Please stop by here if you’re given the opportunity to. Also the gift shop was very nice as well and had reasonably priced goods.

Breathtaking

By Nicole M |

The Falls is a beautiful place. Lots of hiking trails and always a refreshing experience. I only live about 15 minutes from the Falls and it's our go to place.

Mini getaway

By anitaf222 |

We stayed overnight on way to Ark Encountet after viewing the waterfall, they were sliw on reservations so gave us a good price. We went to pool to relax did not really expect such a large pool it had two low diving boards, only down part was only about 4 tables to sit at to eat or drink soft drink they were not allowed in pool area. Of course they were taken and they were not about to move. No chairs by pool with umbrella for shade either, maybe they will add some next year. All in all nice experience. They do have cabins and camping area there. We ate dinner in dinning room it was reasonable 9.99 and oh my such wonderful deserts on desert bar blueberry and cherry cobler with ice cream to dip and a chocolatr ooee goey cake to die for.but breakfadt wad same price I felt overpriced for breakfast.

Never gets old!

By Polly M |

It never gets old visiting this state park. History and nature abound. The lodge was built during the depression through one of FDR’s programs. It is a thing of beauty itself not to mention the view from its windows.

Bring your camera and take the trip

By BJ L |

It was a cool morning and the steam coming off the falls was beautiful. Even though we only had time for a short visit we enjoyed the scenery, took lots of photos and shopped in the great gift shop. It was worth the adventurous drive. Wish we could have spent more time hiking in the area.

Great stay. Friendly staff.

By Bob F |

As usual an excellent trip. Staff always very friendly. I highly recommend this place great trails. Nowhere close to eat is a down point but we bring food. The restaurant at the lodge is ok. Wait staff friendly.

Hidden Gem

By Kimberley E |

Nice drive to this "little Niagara". Popular area for families, bikers, and even locals to browse the park area and become mesmerized by the falling water.

Great place

By JASON8502 |

We enjoyed this as a weekend trip. The falls and the trails are all very pretty. We had fun taking pictures and enjoying nature. Not very crowded and free. The views are amazing. Must see.

Awesome Falls!

By William C |

I wasn't expecting the falls to be as awe-inspiring as they were. It was a great place to visit, and I would recommend it.

Side Trip to Cm errand Falls

By Adventurer279189 |

Enjoyed hiking along the Cumberland River. The Falls were beautiful. Enjoyed the paved trail and we were able to experience the amount of damage that can be caused by excessive water.

Hidden Gem

By TheArtemisMoon |

While Cumberland Falls is more or less a hidden gem, some of the look out points could stand some attention including several steps and fence posts. Not exactly ideal for anyone with really small kids or mobility issues as there are a lot of steps and uneven ground. The falls are great. You Can almost always see a rainbow and even sometimes a moonbow. Cumberland Falls is worth driving the narrow, steep, curvy roads.

Beautiful, easy to access.

By deex9 |

Beautiful falls. Easy to access. The lodge is a little dated [no microwave, refrigerator or balcony] The breakfast was very good.

Awesome

By Judy D |

It's free to see this awesome water falls. Short distance walk. Disappointed people littered by the beach/water.

Couples weekend

By indyponygirl |

The falls are absolutely beautiful. The park is very peaceful and relaxing. This is an attraction that you can take your time and enjoy it.

Cozy Cabin

By TWB |

The walk down the rock steps and path to the one bedroom cabin at dusk was enchanting; really, like time traveling. Cozy cabin, simple furnishings, with extras like a stone wood burning fireplace and full kitchen. Mattress was pretty hard, fine for a short stay. Didn't have time to use the fire pit or grill, but noticed them. I spent most of my time here on the large porch overlooking the woods one night August 2020.

Well worth the time to see this one

By Jaycee7200 |

We really enjoyed our time here. Clean and easy access. Bathrooms are clean and easy to get to. Missed the moonbow this trip Will be back for sure

Easy walk to the falls

By Donna S |

We parked in the lot and walked a short way to the gift shop and cafe. The falls can easily be seen from right there. There are trails and stairs to go down to get a different view. I had one disabled gentleman with me who walked with a cane. He was easily able to do the walk.

A great visit to Cumberland Falls State Park.

By Richard F |

A great state park, and free. We started at the visitor center. The woman there was very helpful and friendly. We viewed the falls from the visitor center side, and then, due to time restraints, could only do one hike on the Eagle Falls trail. It was excellent. We would go again. The park is about 25 minutes west of I-75 at the Corbin exit.

Beautiful Falls

By DLP |

Cumberland Falls is a stunning waterfall within the Daniel Boone National Forest. There are a couple of overlooks that offer different viewpoints. It is an easy walk to each overlook on a paved path, but there is some steps required. . The falls have a large volume of flow and provide beautiful photo opportunities.

Fun adventure for the day

By MsNashville40 |

Definitely hike the dog slaughter trail! The beach didn't appear open from the floods but would be nice normally. Went to see the moonbow but it was cloudy the night I was there.

Worth the trip

By Leigh H |

Great park! Spectacular view of the falls! Fun stop! Keep driving past the address to the actual park.

Always Wonderful Falls, Unique Full Moon Experience

By jann |

The waterfall at Cumberland Falls is its central attraction, especially when there is clear weather with a full moon and large crowds descend on it to see the moonbow, which only occurs at a few sites in the world. (Even if you can't be there to see a moonbow, there is a time period every clear day when the angle of the sun to the falls makes a rainbow appear.) The falls are easily accessible from a parking lot, and there is a gift shop and a snack shop there. We stayed in the lodge, and there is a well-marked path from the lodge to the falls (although it is a woodland trail with a significant elevation change, so best taken in daylight.) There are several other trails as well and other activities available through a nearby outfitter.

One of the best state parks anywhere!

By 4forus |

Still can’t get over that there is not an admissions fee. Free parking, as well. This place is a beautiful natural wonder. Most people view the falls and then leave. There is much more to the park, though. If you continue walking along the trail (it gets strenuous and is not wheelchair accessible) to the right of the falls, you will find yourself on a beach with plenty of boulders for climbing and driftwood for building forts and other structures (free entertainment and problem-solving for kids). You could picnic on this beach, as well. There is a restaurant, vending machines, a gift shop and well-maintained restrooms here. If you are in this part of Kentucky, you’ll not be disappointed with your stop here!

Moonbow visit!

By Patricia H |

Just returned from our stay to see the Moonbow! WOW! Lodge was older but beautifully decorated for autumn. Food at restaurant was good and very reasonable. Staff was super friendly. We did not encounter any issues. They don't advertise well but there is a nice free breakfast in the restaurant for guests and you must stay two nights in the lodge (at least if going over a weekend). Rooms could use some updating but clean. Several little things in area to visit if you get worn out from hiking. Beautiful area. Robin in the gift shop at the falls was awesome and offered suggestions and directions for us.

Close waterfall viewing

By jmc1958 |

Second visit in a year, much less crowded this trip. Multiple viewing spots give you different looks at the falls. Some of the viewing areas require navigation of steps of varying heights which can be a little difficult.

Beautiful falls, hike Eagle falls loop to add to your experience.

By Juliann B |

The Cumberland Falls is something to see, and the Sheltowee Trail runs through here, which is interesting because we section hiked it up near Campton in the Red River Gorge a day earlier. The real gem is Eagle Trail on the other side of the river. What a spectacular hike. We did the loop and the geology and water fall views were just beautiful. We got caught in a pop-up rain shower but ducked into a cave until it blew over. There is some rock scrambling to get to the actual Eagle Falls.

The lodge is just part of the experience!

By JodyLovesTravel |

My parents stayed here every October for 30+ years! This is our second time to stay at the DuPont lodge. Our room this trip was very accessible (I have trouble with stairs) but very small. We arrived early enough to enjoy the view on the patio, play some cards and enjoy a cocktail - bring your own; they don’t have a liquor license. We enjoyed talking to people and even though the dining room was only available for takeout, we enjoyed the food, especially the Kentucky Brown! Our trip was timed in the hopes of seeing the Moonbow. And see it we did! It literally took my breath away! My first time to the falls was in 1987 and I’ve been determined to return for the moonbow ever since! Mission accomplished!

Long drive but worth it.

By rdvance |

The falls is very beautiful and has several spots to be viewed from. It could use a little tree trimming in certain areas to make it more visible. It rained on the day we were there, so we plan to go back in the summer to walk some of the trails.

Spectacular Visit

By Bill F |

I spent two full days tenting in the Ridgeline campground. The booking experience was easy. The clerk Jean was very helpful both during that process and during my stay. The site was level and covered in small crushed stone. There is a deck/platform as well. Also a nice fire ring, water and electricity. My only downer was that site 4 is in the direct sun from noon to sundown. Hot tent. The grounds were clean. The washroom and showers were very good. The little store had a few snack items and a few other camping essentials. I hiked about 10 miles per day. Some of the trails were tough due to trees down.

Absolutely beautiful.

By Julie P |

My husband and I are here for a little get away. Did 6 miles around Cumberland Falls. Hike trails are very well marked. Great for dogs there are water stops constantly and places to comfortably sit for a break if needed. We needed a couple. Can't wait to come back.

The Lodge Was Substandard

By MileBender |

The Cumberland State Park’s sights and trails are beautiful and well worth a visit but avoid the Lodge and stay in Corbin instead.

Very disappointed with the lodge and will not stay there again. The overall facility appeared rundown. Our room was shabby, the furniture was in disrepair, and it did not have the advertised amenities of a microwave and small refrigerator. The restaurant was not open during our stay, but we were not informed of this issue when making our reservation. Consequently, the advertised breakfast included with our room reservation was unavailable, and a 30-minute drive to Corbin was required to eat any meals. The staff was lethargic and unresponsive in general and gave vague excuses when answering questions. One small example: The front desk attendant refused to start a fire in the Great Room fireplace, stating “it was too early in the season.” On checkout, management was unwilling to adjust our room costs to compensate for the above issues.

P.S. We are experienced travelers and "low maintenance," but we expect a degree of truth-in-advertising when we make a reservation, and a minimum level of service at our destination.

Nice views and walk

By Steve W |

Nice walking paths with several good views of the falls. The moonbow is awesome to see Walk can be extended if you want

VERY VERY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE!!!!

By Tigerman777 |

This is a must see if you are planning on visiting or passing through Kentucky!!!! There are A LOT of great things about this park!! First of all, I decided to camp overnight the night after full moon since there were no campsites available the night of the full moon because people wanted to see the moonbow very near the falls. It was a very nice campground, with good space to park and put your tent down. The only thing to mention is if you have a passenger car like mine, site 48 in the Cliffy campground is not a good idea. There is a two foot drop off onto the gravel, which will cause your car to get hung up and may cause serious damage. It is only for pickup trucks. I think Cliffy is better than the other campground because the large campers drive through that one, meaning a lot more traffic. The bathrooms are a little far of a walk, but it’s good exercise for the young or us “old” people (I’m 50, but young at heart 😂).
I really enjoyed the falls a lot!!! It’s nice to view Cumberland falls at different times of the day with different lighting. The gift shop is pretty nice as well. The bathrooms across the way are pretty clean, considering there are a lot of people coming to see the falls. The first parking lot was full most of the time, with the second lot obviously required to use. The first night attempt to see the moonbow was not easy, due to high cloud cover. It was visible for about 30 seconds at about 2:00am. After getting a campsite for the next night, it was clear and ooooh soooo BEAUTIFUL!!!! It occurred between 11:00pm and 2:00am when I was there, although it was visible for an hour or two later as well I’m sure.
Some points to consider when photographing the falls: 1)it’s a good idea for you cell phone users to download an app that changes camera settings manually to take good photos. Using a flash to get good photos of a moonbow is not a good idea because the moonbow itself is light, meaning the flash, which is light obviously will defeat the purpose of getting the moonbow when it is pretty dark. It will likely also cause your photos to have very uneven lighting, ruining them (why most people tried taking the same photos five or six times in a row with flash on, getting the same poor results). Flash is beneficial in certain situations when taking photos of people and things, but most of the time when taking flash photos of things over ten feet away is ineffective. Plus, you will ruin photos of professional photographers, which of course will not make them happy. I highly recommend playing around with the settings on the app during or near the time of a full moon where you live before visiting Cumberland so you can be well prepared when taking photos at the falls. For the DSLR camera users, the settings for taking good Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) photos are about the same as taking photos of the moonbow. I used F-2.8, with ISO 800 and Aperture 15 seconds. Those numbers are only a base. You can adjust accordingly. 2). I highly recommend bringing rain gear due to the high amount of mist from the falls, which creates intense color in photos in the moonbow. It may be warm out, but with fairly strong winds, especially at the two lower viewpoints, you will get wet and cold. 3). I highly recommend viewing the moonbow from the upper viewpoint (still bringing raincoat) due to a better overall view of the moonbow. The lower viewpoints give a different perspective, but when I was there, you couldn’t see the total bow. 4). Please don’t just come and see the moonbow and leave like most others did. I know it might be difficult to go to work or travel that day, but soo much more can happen. I saw a double moonbow because of staying when almost everyone left. The early season fireflies were magnificent to watch flying over the water. 4). To see the fireflies at their best, I recommend coming in June, when they mate, which the skies light up. Imagine, seeing moonbows and fireflies at the same time. MAGNIFICENT!!!!
In conclusion, I VERY highly recommend visiting Cumberland between two days before and two days after full moon to get the opportunity to reliably see one of the world’s rare natural phenomenons: the glorious MOONBOW!! Cross your fingers for clear skies and enjoy the ride. Believe me, you will. Even if you don’t see the moonbow, you have other great waterfalls in the area to see, including Eagle Falls, Yahoo falls and a number of others.

Quick stop to say we did it

By Samantha Townsend |

It is a beautiful waterfall to see. Do not need to spend a lot of time here. It was very hot and humid this day. So we were quick. There are some hiking trails and a small gift shop on site. If you are in the area or on site it is something to do, but not something I would go out of my way again to do.

Nice

By Karen S |

It was a wonderful waterfall. to view especially if you have kids. You can easily walk to it from the parking lot.

Worth the short drive off the interstate

By Sherry M |

Made an early morning stop here to see the falls while driving towards Lexington. Beautiful area to visit.

Cumberland Falls is beautiful!

By James C |

Have been to Cumberland Falls a few times in my life and this trip was perfect. Took a lot of pictures and some video too of the falls. Since I had been here a few times didn't stay as long as I have in the past.
I absolutely love having the falls here in my home of Kentucky. Truly the best waterfall in our State.
If you've never been here, I truly encourage you to visit. There are places nearby that you can rent things to experience below the falls experience as well. One of the most beautiful places to take photos and videos as well.

Short trip on a hot day

By Manab |

This place is awesome with a giant water falls with visible rainbow, trails, picnic spot and gift shop. Has lots of trees with cool shades on a hot day. We availed a boat ride to the falls and loved the experience although it was costly.

Absolutely awe-inspiring.

By T P |

Multiple viewing positions for one of the greatest waterfalls in the country. Informative displays and an absolutely massive parking lot.

So, so campsites but beautiful water falls

By dbauman |

Just passing through the area and stopped to check out the camping facilities. From what I saw, they are small sites crowded together. The falls on the other hand are beautiful, just a short walk for the parking lot. There isn't much room for parking large RV's or cars pulling campers so beware.

Viewing the Cumberland Falls

By LeSteveO |

From the visitor center, the top of the falls is easy to get to and a short walk anyone can do. There’s a better view point at the base of the falls, which is down quite a few steps. Falls are bigger than I expected and well worth a visit.

Beautiful scenery and gorgeous falls

By Michelle M |

We loved the falls..They’re totally beautiful..we were hoping to see the moonbow but no luck this time Hopefully next time

An Amazing Gem in East Kentucky

By tenntravelguy |

The waterfall here I understand is the 2nd largest in the country next to Niagra Falls. You can read about how many gallons of water per second and minute in some of the signage along the trail. The walk ways are a good way to relax and take your time viewing this breathtaking piece of mother nature.

I would also suggest visiting the main lodge where there is a restaurant and places of lodging across the park. You must stop here when you are in the Corbin area.

cool pit stop close to parking lot

By nicole s |

this is a big waterfall that is a short walk from the main parking lot. You can literally walk right down to the falls, it is an at your own risk place which is good and bad depending on your situation. I appreciated the free range of the area and loved the sounds of the rushing water.

Very nice

By Fred Boyd |

I’ve seen bigger and better falls but this was very impressive for back East. The amount of water going over the falls was surprising. This is a nice place to take a short stroll and check out the falls and the river.

Cumberland Falls- The Niagara Falls of the South

By Beth B |

My kids and I recently explored Cumberland Falls and couldn’t be more in awe! The natural beauty of the falls is overwhelming, so it’s no wonder it’s called the Niagara Falls of the south. We visited the park as a pit stop and it was absolutely worth the extra time to get home. One of the best parts was that it was free! We got tons of great pictures and stretched are legs as we walked through the trails. We took one trail to a beach area where people were fishing and picnicking. Even my 3 year old was impressed and said “this is a beautiful place!” I got the kids an ice cream cone at the snack shop to eat as we walked and stopped in the gift shop as we left where they had lots of nice and unique items. If you pass Corbin, Kentucky on your travels, I highly recommend visiting the Cumberland Falls!

Beautiful sights in every direction!

This area offers hiking, sight seeing, white water rafting and so much more. Each month you can view one of only 2 moonbows. Well worth a trip!

Awesome waterfall

By Theresagb6189 |

The waterfall is awesome. It's a bit of a hike to the bottom and you have to climb up the some rocks to see the falls from the bottom but it is worth it.

Cumberland Falls, Ky

By therealtlc |

The water level was low but that made for the water on the top of the falls to be wadeable on the edge and for the water to be crystal clear. It also made for the waterfall to pond at the bottom into a beautiful clear blue/green. So many times we have gone and it had been dirty looking from recent rains. We got there around noon and was rewarded with a double rainbow from the falls mist. It's a great spot to get out and see the falls within a few steps of the road or go past them and hike no matter what the weather is though.

Great solo trip

Scenic drive to the park from Somerset and a satisfying hike to the falls! Amazing views, happy people and a quaint resort center!

Cumberland Falls State Park

By Becky19_2006 |

Beautiful place to visit. Well maintained. Trails that you can walk. Depending on weather when you go the falls can be very large or small.

Beautiful and clean!

Cumberland Falls is a park Kentucky should be proud of! It is very clean, interactive and beautiful!

Great Hiking and scenery

By Toby M |

Horse riding is a wonderful asset. Very well operated and the love of my life enjoyed her first horse ride. The only food available was Moonbow Cafe which is adequate at best. Lodge restaurant and mini-store were both closed during Moonbow. Robin at the Visitor Center was great. Very engaging and helpful. Hikes are beautiful indeed, well worth the visit. Highly recommend the Dog Slaughter trail as it ends at a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. Camp sites are great for tent camping. We were fortunate to have perfect Moonbow viewing the two nights we stayed. 5 stars if the Lodge restaurant and mini-store were open.

Great place to see a waterfall

By charleslambert392 |

The park is nice and well kept. It is an old park with new updates. Paths are rustic and get you close to the falls (not ADA accessable for older ones due to the age and rock formations). They say come for the moonbow but we got there for the sunbow today. Often it was a double one. The upper part of the park is ADA and gets some great views. This is also the area for family avtivities like gold panning, restrooms and gift shop.
There is also a lodge, pool, horses, boat rides, etc. if you want to stay.

Easter Trip

By MamaK |

We spent Easter Weekend at this park and saw the Moonbow! We had a fantastic time! I would definitely recommend to anyone! We Hiked Eagle Falls hike and Dog Slaughter falls! Both were stunning. The falls were flowing hard as it was a wet weekend. We stayed in the campground with an RV. Wouldn't recommend anyone with a BIG RV attempting this. Ours is a 17 footer and it felt tight! The campground was amazing though with beautiful spaces through out! Highly recommend! 5/5 stars!

Moonbow

By Mary C |

My husband and I are here at Cumberland falls for the weekend. Moonbow weekend. For our 37th anniversary. No moonbow on friday. Hoping tomorrow. Our first time. Love the falls.

Beautiful Falls but the trash all over was just sad!

By Jen MTG |

The Falls were beautiful. The hike all around the falls was stunning. We ate at the little Moonbow Cafe. That place was gross! I ate a burger that tasted like fake meat or something. Wouldn’t recommend eating there. The picnic area was nice. There was a ton of trash all around the Falls. Up in the trails... trash...not as much thankfully. Really sad! Not only is it ugly, bad for the environment, but the poor wildlife. They really need to clean it up. I have never been to a Park with so much trash. I have traveled all over to our Parks too. Other than the trash problem it was fabulous and I highly recommend.

Beautiful

By Shirley L |

Beautiful and free to do. Easy walk from the parking lot for a view. Walk to the observation decks for even better views. Great little gift shop as well.

Group trip

By Alaine L |

Met up with a bunch of friends for a birthday weekend. Falls were beautiful. Hiking was great. Stayed in the cabins. Good accommodations. Good for groups. If you are planning on doing a lot of cooking in the cabins plan to bring your own kitchen stuff (there was a coffee maker, but no filters, an oven, but no cookware that was oven safe, etc.). Overall great time!

Loved the park in the daytime. Lots of great hiking! They have a snack bar so you don't have to leave to grab food. The moonbow was amazing!

We absolutely loved the Falls. It was breathtaking to see the beautiful waterfall at the looking point. Our boys absolutely loved the gem and fossil mining experience. My favorite part of our visit was horseback riding through the beautiful hills of Cumberland Falls.

Cumberland Falls and the moonbow!

By Dreamer40260096908 |

Cumberland Falls is absolutely amazing! The entire place is super clean. There’s so much to do and see! It was on my bucket list to see the moonbow and it did not disappoint! Beautiful place!!

Need to return

By anicesurpriiiiise |

I agree with the previous review about the trash. Sad that so much has washed up or been left there.

The falls are beautiful, particularly at night, even though we didn't see the moonbow due to the clouds covering the full moon. We went back the next day but didn't have time to walk around as much as we had planned, since we were up so late the night before trying to see the moonbow! We definitely would like to return--maybe after the lodge gets an update. We stayed in Corbin which was 25 minutes away because the lodge's most recent reviews were not good.

CHALLENGING HIKE

By giuseppe0057 |

We hiked the 3 mile loop of the yellow trail #9. If you this trail take the left to the loop and come back on the straight side. Take it to the end so you can go to eagle falls. The restaurant and the general store double as the visitor's center and they don't do a very good job. there are no park rangers just people who want to sell stuff and don't have a lot of information to answer questions. Cumberland falls was fabulous.

Beautiful Waterfalls and Beautiful scenery

By Doug P |

Beautiful scenery, not too busy this time of year. The leaves were changing, falling, and the trails are well maintained, but can be strenuous at times. The falls are great to see, and hear. well worth the stop on a fall trip.

Beautiful

This lodge is beautiful, old with lots of charm , They had it decorated up very nice for fall, the outdoor Fire pit and swings are inviting. Rooms up stairs a little small but comfortable. Restaurant is good

Falls with an historical past

By Deana M |

Thank you to Mr Du Pont for preserving such a place of beauty full of history. We had a party of four and we were all so glad that we visited and hiked around the falls. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Kentucky.

Beautiful Waterfall and easily seen with little effort!

By jgwisdom |

This is a beautiful site to behold and it can be seen with little effort. Many waterfalls require a hike, but this is an easy walk to the upper level and then a short walk to the lower viewing areas. They have a great parking lot area that leads to a gift shop and visitor center, and then an upper and lower level viewing areas. The lower level viewing area is amazing, don't miss that! I just rolled through and stopped to admire the waterfall, but this place has a Lodge and Cottages too, along with camping. Worth a trip! For two wheel folks, the ride to and from this place on Highway 90 is about as good as it gets anywhere, so put it on your motorcycle bucket list as a destination!

Wonderful back to nature location...

By Eva C |

This is in the middle of the woods with hiking trails galore -- though look out for the bears as they do abound and were sighted while we were there (not by us, but due to campers that left food out). Waterfall is very scenic and not far from the parking area. The hotel/lodge itself is also very nice and rustic in the middle of the woods. Some activities (e.g., swimming pool) do close early -- perhaps a bear/safety issue at night but don't know...

Beautiful Falls !!

By Christina B |

Nice drive to see the Falls. Easy walk, although there’s some stairs it’s not bad. We also continued down a little farther to another look over. No need to go any farther. We did walk along the top part of the stream bed. Beautiful Falls that were flowing.

Fabulous Falls!

By DalovelyDamanda |

We happened to be on vacation and visited the falls when it was snowing and 22 degrees outside. We were very grateful that the walk to actually see the falls from the parking lot is very short because we were so cold. It has an easy path to view the falls from above with bathrooms and a gift shop nearby. If you want to walk a little lower to see closer, there are a few easy stairs. There is no long strenuous hike to get to the falls. The falls were beautiful! I only wish we weren’t so frozen and were able to enjoy more of the nearby hikes...maybe next time! A beautiful experience.

Can’t say enough great things about this park

By julie6114 |

If your looking great hiking, beautiful views and friendly people this is your place.
Upon arrival to the campground we did find the sites to be close together and small. Before you book make sure your RV will taking into consideration your vehicle. Campground has electric/water available and a dump station. Restrooms are spotless as well as showers. Camp store and firewood available and staff is so nice and helpful with any questions you may have.
We hiked to the falls from the campground which was about 1.5 miles one way. The falls are absolutely stunning with plenty of opportunity for great pictures. Make sure you schedule your trip during the “Moonbow” when the moon is full and aluminates a white rainbow over the falls.
We brought our kayaks and spent the day on Laurel River lake. Lots of spots to pull over and enjoy a dip in the lake. Great spot to put in head north out of the park on 90 to 25W heading north. Turn right onto 1193 at the Dollar General and follow about 8 miles where you’ll come to the damn. There is parking, a beach and that’s where we put our kayaks in. If you can make it to this beautiful park I highly recommend, also stop at the DuPont Lodge and check out the view from the back patio. They will let you BYOB and sit and relax. Staff there was also so friendly and helpful with info.
We will definitely be back!!!!

Beautiful scenery.

By Crystal B |

Great pic nic area by the river. The falls are gorgeous. We went talking around the falls and down to the river. It was beautiful

A must

By Sue S |

Another beautiful Kentucky state park with great hiking trails and views. Maps are available and there is a store to purchase goods.

If the hike says strenuous, believe it!

By ahaskell |

We took two hikes. The first was on paved walkways to various vantage points around the main falls. The second was to one of the smaller falls. This was the killer. The pathway was full of large embedded rocks and partially exposed tree roots. There were many steps up the side of the mountain most with no hand rail. When we got to the end of the hike, there was nothing to see but a microwave tower. On the return, I slipped and fell about 20 feet down the mountain and my wife who tried to catch me followed. We were both injured and could walk no further. Another hiker happened along and summoned help. We were carried out on backboards and taken to the hospital in Corbin by ambulance, about 25 miles away. We spent about 8 hours in the emergency room then returned to our room at DuPont Lodge. We decided to cut our stay short and returned home the next morning to heal.

Day in nature

By Lisa B |

After pulling into the visitor center & gift shop, it’s a quick walk to two different views of the Cumberland Falls. Next, we drove over the bridge to walk to Eagle Falls Trail. It’s about 40 minutes one way. A little challenging, but doable. The waterfall at the end was worth it.

Wonderful for nature lovers!

By JulietGSierra |

The scenery at Cumberland Falls is just beautiful. The hike to Eagle Falls is long and fairly strenuous, but the magnificent views make it well worthwhile! I was traveling with four kids, and they loved the hiking in this park. The gift shop is very nice and reasonably priced as well. A good place to spend a day or two.

Moonbow Aug 2023

By Jenn A |

We went late evening for the Moonbow and it was a really amazing experience. We were not staying at the park so here are some things that may be helpful since there is not a ton of specific info on the website. Look up the Moonbow schedule on the website (2 days before full moon, day of full moon, 2 days after full moon). Also, look at the weather to see what the cloud coverage looks like. Before you go, call or find times for optimal viewing hours. It seems to be a 2 hour window and these are not listed on the website and they change each night of the Moonbow. We were told to arrive 1 hour before the optimal viewing time starts. We got there about 1.5 hours before and didn’t have trouble getting a parking space. We brought bug spray but didn’t find that the bugs were too bad. As you walk into the falls area from the parking lot, there are bathrooms that are open on your right. The park pathway to the upper falls is semi-lit (lower viewing not lit). Your phone flashlight is all you will need for either viewing area, but you could bring a small flashlight. You can stop at the center/right side of the upper falls viewing area to see the falls, the bottom water & the Moonbow best. We were able to see the Moonbow best a little before the optimal viewing times. For us, it came and went based on the mist coming off the falls and if there was any cloud coverage. The Moonbow looks white to the naked eye. If your iPhone is an 11 or later, night mode will automatically capture your photos (hold still). I was able to capture these photos with my iPhone 13 and adjusted the settings later to show the color bands. If you use a DSLR you will need a tripod. There’s no great place to prop your camera to get the exposure time. After you’ve seen the Moonbow but it’s still active, try heading down to the lower viewing area. We were able to see it there too and it had slightly less people, although I wouldn’t call it super crowded in either spot. Overall, it was a cool experience and we are glad we went!

Beautiful Falls, worth a side trip

By EAL17 |

I have been to Cumberland Falls several times and am always impressed by the magnitude and beauty of the falls. Take the easily accessible trails to the lower overlooks and down to a large sandy area for several good views of the falls. There is also a small visitor center with displays and a gift shop. Beyond that there isn't much to do, but it makes for a nice side trip when traveling through the area. My main complaint would be the level of trash caught up mainly below the falls (I know, the rangers are limited to what they can do about it... people can be real jerks). Another "nearby" stop for those in the area is Laurel Falls Lake, about 30-45 minute drive to the northeast. There is a swimming area at the spillway right off highway 1193. Enjoy the falls and then go for a nice refreshing swim!

Chasing Moonbows: My Enchanting Adventure at Cumberland Falls, KY

By Jennifer D The Frugal Vacationista |

Chasing Moonbows: My Enchanting Adventure at Cumberland Falls, KY

On August 1, 2023, my family and I embarked on a breathtaking journey to witness the mystical Cumberland Falls Moonbow in Kentucky. Nestled amidst the picturesque Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, our experience turned out to be nothing short of enchanting. From the awe-inspiring moonbow to the plethora of outdoor activities, our stay at Cabin 502 was a truly unforgettable adventure.

Arriving at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, the excitement among our family was palpable. The park, known for its stunning waterfalls and unique moonbow phenomenon, instantly captivated us. Being not far from our home, we chose this destination as our first Frugal Vacation Adventure.

After checking into the cozy and well-equipped Cabin 502, we were excited to begin our mini vacation! The cabin was clean and everything we needed for a brief stay was provided. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the living room and kitchen were well-equipped. We enjoyed having the option to cook our meals, which was budget-friendly and convenient. The only thing I would note is that if you have very small children, the cabins on this road are just a short walk from very steep cliffs, and there are no gates on the back porches. So, bring a gate to guard the stairs going down on the back porch for safety.

Day 2 was the much-anticipated day to witness the elusive moonbow, a mesmerizing nighttime phenomenon created by the moon's reflection on the mist of the Cumberland Falls. As the moon climbed higher into the night sky, a soft and ethereal arc of colors emerged right before our eyes. The Moonbow, often compared to a lunar rainbow, cast a spell of wonder upon us, leaving us in awe of nature's magic. It was a moment we will cherish forever.

Day 3 was filled with fun outdoor activities that catered to the whole family. We enjoyed swimming in the resort's pool on a warm summer day, and the kids had a blast splashing around. Horseback riding through the park's scenic trails was a highlight of our trip, and the gentle horses made the experience enjoyable for our whole family. Kayaking on the Cumberland River offered a unique perspective of the park's serene beauty. And though we didn't catch any trophy-sized fish while fishing, spending quality time together by the water was priceless.

As our stay at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park came to an end on Day 4, we couldn't help but reflect on the wonderful memories we had created. Witnessing the moonbow was undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the park's abundant recreational activities added an extra layer of joy to our trip.

In conclusion, our journey to Cumberland Falls, KY, will forever be etched in our hearts as an unforgettable adventure. From witnessing the elusive moonbow to indulging in various outdoor activities, our family vacation at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Cabin 502 was a perfect blend of natural wonders and family fun. If you ever find yourself yearning for an enchanting escape in the heart of nature, Cumberland Falls should undoubtedly be on your travel bucket list.

Cumberland Falls.

Not a bad place to spend a little time. Plenty of parking. Access to see the falls and river below were adequate.

Disappointed

By Firedude201 |

We booked a 2 night stay (park requirement) in one of the parks 1 bedroom cabins as part of our family vacation. Our check in (October 4th) was easy and the desk clerk was very nice. Our arrival at the cabin for the first night was very disappointing to say the least. Upon our arrival to the cabin we found a very smelly, damp, dirty, spider invested cabin. After some cleaning and killing 20 spiders (exact number ) we chose to not be miserable any longer and checked out the next day for the sake of our health and sanity. Kentucky State park system needs to invest in these very out dated cabins and purchase new furniture and bedding. These cabins are way over priced for what we encountered upon our arrival. The only thing we enjoyed doing while in the park was Cumberland Falls it’s self. I would not recommend staying at this location.

Very Friendly Staff

Didn't dine at restaurant but it looked nice.
Would definitely stay again.

Great stop!

By AW35 |

Great stop for beautiful scenery! We spent about an hour exploring and it was just as described. It was very very hot, but worth it!

Great Road Trip Stop

By Adam N |

While traveling through the area we stopped at Cumberland Falls. It's proximity to I-75, it's convenient parking lot, and easy access to the falls makes this a Must-Do. My father was on a walker and was still able to go out to the Falls. All around great facility.

There is also a historical lodge right out of a Hallmark movie, a pool, camp ground, hiking trails, and smaller falls that you can swim in! No wonder this is Kentucky's most popular and visited State Park.

Excellent

By hblant859193 |

The place is absolutely peaceful and amazing and the gift shop is so amazing and the people running. It is so sweet. I love it there. I’ve been going there since I was a little girl and since I got with my new husband, we’ve been going there for the last four years with our new Babies and making it a family tradition

Love the falls

By Cindy H |

I missed seeing a moonbow, but even though it was hot, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Not too many people and after dark, the frogs singing were magical.

Must see falls

By Marianne M |

Moon Bow worth the trip, go at least one day before and after full moon so you won't miss the bow. Also, visit falls during the day to get a different perspective and a walk the beautiful pathways. The gift shop is wonderful, too.

Magical!

By Becca S. |

Cumberland Falls has always been sort of a magical place, and it's practically right in my backyard! My family and I visited on moonbow weekend... the night was cool, clear, and the moonbow was perfect! We also booked a rainbow mist boat ride through Sheltowee Trace and got an up-close encounter with the waterfall and rainbow. Every bit of it was incredible!

Free park

By Michelle B |

Clean, nice had some shops for a refreshing I've cream and drink since it was so hot. Worth the stop.

Take the time to go here!

By Mandy Jo |

While on vacation, it’s fun to not have a perfect schedule. Don’t fill it completely up. Leave room for the detours. We were driving on I-75 from Knoxville, TN to Cincinnati, OH and came across a sign for Cumberland Falls. Neither of us have been there, so we decided to go find it. We got off the freeway and followed the signs.

The road was very windy and curvy. We arrived at the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park Visitor Center. The park is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest. When we got out of our vehicle we went to the opening in the fence. I was a bit confused. We saw quite a bit of rock, but very little water. There were tiny waterfalls, but nothing worth putting a sign up for. However, we could hear waterfalls. So, the sound we could hear did not match what we could see. We then walked along in the direction the water was flowing. Coming upon a sign that said to go no further, we walked over to the ramp and followed the walk to the overlook that we could see.

We got to the overlook and saw the waterfalls. This was beautiful! It was well worth taking the detour. There were a few people around, but not too busy, it was a Thursday. Also, we journeyed around to get a better look, which is much lower and closer to the falls.

I have put this as a place to return to when we have the extra time to go for boat/raft rides down the river and close to the falls. There’s so much to do in the area. I look forward to returning.

The falls

By Ian H |

I wish I’d visited during the one night a year when the moon bow appeared.
I’ve been extremely spoiled in my life and visited both Niagara and Victoria falls, the falls here are great but no where near the scale of these.
Visitor centre nice and the staff are very helpful.
I suspect it would be even nicer visiting during the summer or fall.

A Beautiful Day!

By Ed S |

Beautiful area n the hike is small. Stopped by on our way through headen to Asheville from ohio. Haven't been here since i was a kid with my parents

Gorgeous!

By VanillaAce |

Short walk from parking lot to viewing platforms of falls. Great photo opportunities from several vantage points. Stairs do get wet and care is needed when using them. Definitely worth a visit.

Glad we stopped

By Chshrcat873 |

We wanted to slip over the border of Tennessee into Kentucky on our long road trip. Our National Geographic 50 states guide book, suggested we go to
The “Niagra Falls of the United States”
Fairly easy to find. We might have hiked to the falls, if we had the time, so we were glad we met an employee who directed us to the main park instead.

Dissappointing!!

By jane b |

Dissappointed! This well-worn lodge is in desperate need of investment and refurbishing. With the exception of a comfortable bed, the whole room should be redone. The food was poor! To make the visit worse, the interface with staff at welcome, during our one night stay and departure was simply poor. This could and should be an exceptional property. The lack of management and "value added" staffing simply means we will not return or recommend a stay at Cumberland Falls State Park. Please do better!

Beautiful waterfall , blighted by plastic trash

By X4290JFjamess |

We spent one night at the state park lodge.
There were nice trails and the river was impressive. The waterfall was spectacular, but , unfortunately, large amounts of mostly plastic trash have accumulated right below the waterfall. A really sad sight! Mostly these were plastic drink bottles. It has made me redouble my efforts to avoid buying plastics .
We were at the park in the offseason, so only a few other guests were present.
The staff in the lodge , dining room and gift shop were all excellent. Menu items in the dining room were limited as it was offseason.
The lodge is dated and in need of a renovation to bring it up to modern standards.

Breathtaking

By foxymamaruth |

This was my first visit to Cumberland Falls and it was spectacular. The falls are just beautiful !!! I'd love to return at night to see a moonbow, however we did see a beautiful rainbow. We spent a few hours here sightseeing. It was a great day!!!

MoonBow Eagle Falls Visit

By lovetravel2 |

We went to the park 3 different times while in the area. One night to see the moonbow, then we hiked Eagle Falls, that is absolutely beautiful and there was a rainbow at the base when we arrived. The other time was to see Cumberland Falls during the day.
The gift shop is fully stocked with tons of different souvenirs.
The visitors center staff are not very friendly, nor was there much information inside.
The only complaint is all the trash that is laying around everywhere, it does need to be cleaned up.
The Falls are beautiful and you need to make a visit to the Niagara Falls of the South if anywhere close to the area.

Natural beauty, nature not so cooperative

By MonkeyMania |

Beautiful falls with paved walkway; love that we could bring our leashed dog. Visitors’ Center was closed. The park itself is not clearly labeled and we were disappointed the steps to descend to the water’s edge were closed. Water is really receded

Previous renters dogs brought in ticks to bedroom carpet.

By Ray N |

Pet friendly means dogs in woods bringing back ticks. Grand kids go swimming, drop underwear on floor. Later return and dress. Ticks in underwear and itching start. Trips to Doctor. Gutters overflow on deck and furniture. Decks and deck furniture not cleaned. Cob webs in bath room.

Beautiful

By Renita E |

The falls are beautiful and the walking is easy. Glad to see the trash will be cleaned up this summer but understandable with all the flooding this past year.

Beware Cottage 502

By DGW |

This was to be a memorable get-away for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. Three nights to enjoy the park and see the MOONGLOW on the Cumberland Falls on our actual wedding date 25 years ago. We checked in and were provided access to Cottage 502. The front door was badly warped and my wife could not push the door open. I had to give it a hardy shove to gain entry. We brought in our food and clothes for the stay and soon found unwelcome leftovers from the cabin's permanent residents. MICE. We found mouse dropping literally everywhere. On the floor, kitchen table, on top of the refrigerator, in the kitchen drawers where the silverware was located, on the coffee service tray, in the coffee pot (don't ask me how this was possible), bath tubs, sofa and the bed. I was afraid to look any further for fear of finding more and/or the mice themselves. We placed all our food in the microwave, the frig and our coolers to keep the mice from visiting. Other things not needed immediately were left in the car. We left the lights on throughout the cabin hoping that would keep the critters from freely roaming the cottage. We spent the 1st night and contacted the management the next day. A cleaning crew of 2 arrived quickly and did a superficial cleaning, wiping down of the areas I had mentioned to them. The cobwebs and areas I did not mention were not cleaned. My poor wife, on our anniversary, was cleaning up this awful cabin. This was unacceptable. I contacted the supervisor and cancelled our 3rd night and was given a partial refund. We were still hopeful we could see the falls and then leave the next day. However, after returning to the cabin at 11:30 p.m. and our Falls Moon Glow viewing, we discovered new droppings where a cleaning had been done earlier in the day. We both were very tired and wanted nothing more to go to bed since we had hiked all day on some local trails. As we entered our bedroom we spotted a mouse scurry off our bed. My wife let out a holler and we quickly decided to vacate the premises. No one was going to get any rest in this place tonight. We packed up and drove into Corbin and stayed at a local hotel for the night. Our Anniversary was in ruins as you can imagine. As I said at the start, this was to be a memorable experience and it surely was, just not the one we had hoped for.

Beautiful Park

By Mstallwo1 |

We were taking a trip on I75 and decided to go to Cumberland Falls Park to eat our picnic lunch. I am so glad that we stopped at the park. The view of the falls is gorgeous and they do have a way for wheelchairs and walkers to have a great viewing spot. The bathrooms were clean. There is a nice gift shop. Although we didn't buy any food, it smelled wonderful and plenty of people were eating. Hope to come back one day and hike!

Just OK

By jdc |

If you come on a full moon, you might give it four stars, but otherwise, it is not a great stopovee place. The accommodations are substandard. Small rooms in the lodge, dated fixtures, and crowsws parking. The staff is friendly, and the food is OK. Budget considerations have led to limited hours/days of operation for the gift shop and cafeteria. The falls are nice, but would be more enjoyable if our nanny state would allow closer access as in years past. All-in-all, it is barely worth the effort to come, except to say you have been here.

Beautiful

By Mary S |

Well worth the trip, nice area. Lots of hiking or just areas to walk. The falls were beautiful and the area around the visitor center was clean. We brought our dog, there was plenty of spacewoman walk with him.

Eagles Fall wow

By Linda B |

The beauty of nature is amazing here. There are several places to hike so bring your comfortable shoes or hiking shoes, a walking stick to go on the trail. Take your time to take pictures and enjoy the peace. The Eagles Falls route while going uphill to the falls is challenging. The road has tree roots, stone steps, manmade steps and other obstacles in the way. Just keep alert and be aware. My group someone spotted a copperhead snake on the trail. Bring water or snacks. Once you arrive at the falls to take a break and enjoy taking pictures of the falls. There is an easy hike the Cumberland Falls which is located close to the parking lot and it has store to shop in and a reptile place where you can hold a snake if you want. There are 2 ways to get to the falls climbing steps or you can go uphill on a ramp if you have a wheelchair or walker. Then at night at 930[pm we saw the Moonbow wow.

This is suppose to be the number 1 place in KY?? Yikes! major disappointment for a state park! Trash in the water, everywhere and graffiti around most of the park. So sad to see. This could be a really nice place... pick up your game Cumberland Falls!

Do not recommend Cliffy Campground

By tripdad |

Cliffy Campground site#40 is not flat - made for miserable SLEEP!

Beautiful falls

By ekehlet |

The falls are always beautiful, and rainbows are a common sight. While there is more strenuous hiking available if you want it, the walk to see the falls is short and very easy. Unfortunately, during our recent visit the restaurant was being remodeled, so if you plan to eat at the park, be sure to call ahead to see if it is open.

A COOL PLACE TO EXPLORE

By EclipseTraveler |

Contrary to most ppls beliefs, the park is not very far from Corbin and I-75. The facilities like lodging camping swimming are on top of a hill so there's not a whole lot of room to have more than what they have there. The lodge is historical but smaller than most State Park lodges with cabins scattered about.

Beautiful Falls

A fun place to stop off I75. Great for a short walk to see the falls. Our children enjoy seeing and watching the falls. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Ark Encounter Trip

Beautiful waterfall. Great stop on the way to the Ark or just for a day trip. Several short trails and some long trails with great views.

Good Day Trip

By Elizabeth |

Beautiful park with lots of hiking options. We saw Cumberland Falls and Eagle Falls. Eagle Falls is definitely worth the short hike! It’s less impressive than the big falls but it’s prettier and you can get closer. Plus it’s not as crowded!

We found that the park really lacked in good signage and maps for their other trails. Highly recommend choosing your hikes ahead of time and printing off a map online in case you don’t have good cell service. Otherwise, you’ll have no way of knowing the name of the hike, what you’ll see on the hike, and sometimes how long the hike is. We got by, but it took some detective work.

Beautiful falls

By Rich |

Enjoyed my visit to the falls. One of the best in the eastern U.S. Sure water volume impressive. Can drive or walk down to. A little out of the way but worth it.

Have been going there for 20 + years. Beautiful! Restaurant in the lodge needs to improve. Management does want to please.

Wonderful experience at Cumberland Falls!

By Eric |

We loved our visit to Cumberland Falls! It was very impressive! I highly recommend it to everyone! We also loved our cabin! We will return!!

Great day or weekend trip

By KYTwinzMom |

Incredible view and great trail options. Stay for the day or longer. Weekdays are the best bet if you want to avoid crowds. The moonbow is worth the trip to say you saw it if the weather cooperates.

Trails galore, off the beaten path

By SoberNomad |

We've been to Cumberland Falls 3 times now, and it has become one of our favorite places to visit! The cabins are first rate, the falls are magnificent, and there are 3 or 4 outstanding trails with varying levels of difficulty. Highly recommend!

Magnificent

By Dina M |

The Falls are absolutely beautiful. We spent about an Hour and a half walking the trail. We went in late fall, there was still some color. Would love to see it at peak fall foliage!

BreathTaking View

By Greg F |

Well worth the drive and walk. Very impressive waterfall with several viewing areas. The trails were well maintained and easy to walk. There is a parking area right at the falls for those who do not want to hike there.

Visit a crown jewl in ky state parks crown of many parks

By 287Robert_G |

We wanted to get away from town for the day so took a hour an a half ride from Lexington to the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. Summer time is a good time to see groups and families enjoying the outdoors. Marked walking trails lead to different points of interest. We ate a great buffet lunch at the Lure Lodge restaurant. $9.00 per person on a Saturday offered a wide variety of soups, fresh salads, fruits and vegetables, A choice of different main dishes, lasagna, fried chicken breast strips and baked catfish, Several deserts to choose from pies, cookies and cakes. The wait staff was on hand to refill drinks and remove dishes as needed. A pleasent dining experience with a great view of the Cumberland River landscape.

Beautiful with Breathtaking Views

By DutchLace |

Beautiful waterfall with easly walking to. Nice visitor center and gift shop. Plenty of areas to enjoy the "Niagara of the South", Parking lot isn't real large, so can see on a busy day it would fill quickly. Nice trails. Some more strenuous than others. If you like a easier trail along the river its beautiful. If you want strenuous and lots of stairs and rocks walk to Eagle Fall; its breathtaking.. The lookout trail has too many trees to see any real views, but its an accomplishment.

Home of the Moonbow

By Art and Ginny |

The large waterfall is the highlight of our visit. There are a number of good overlooks within a short walk. The parking lot is small and crowded. There is an extensive gift shop and a visitors center which had a helpful staff. No WiFi access during our visit. The falls can create a nighttime rainbow, called a moonbow.

Beautiful!

By Kyle-Kayla |

We went on a Sunday in November. It was very cold, But it was a beautiful water fall. Barely anyone was there, but the gift shop and a food truck was open. We didn’t go hiking but if we was to ever go back I think it would be worth it.

Beautiful, accessible Falls Overlook

By 01DayTripper |

Very easy to access the falls. Large parking area and special RV parking. Paved path to the Falls overlook. Small gift shop and restrooms.

Gorgeous falls 11/02/19

By usmcpoppins524 |

Gorgeous falls during the leaf change November 2, 2019. Easy walk back to upper lookout. The lower lookout does have stairs and is not handicap accessible although it has the best view which is where I took my photo using an iPhone 8+.

Beautiful!

By sybil k |

Stopped here on our way to Bristol, TN to get out and stretch our legs. LOVE this park and entire area. Pretty drive with some fall color and temp in the low 70's - perfect!

Lots of trails and platforms to look at the falls/water, nice gift shop and clean bathrooms. Wish we would have had more time to explore, but wanted to get to Tennessee before dark. One of the prettiest spots in the country, and we will definitely make plans to spend more time there during our next trip south. Can't really comment on the Lodge or restaurant as we didn't include those areas in this short visit.

Very pretty

By Angie M |

A very pretty walk along the river and falls. Plenty of places to stop and see the falls and/or take pictures. It isn't a difficult walk - there are stairs but not a ton all at once.

Nice get away

By Carol F |

The park itself is nice, but some of the overlooks are over grown so there isn't really a view of the falls. That said, we enjoyed hiking several of the trails. Trail 9 was very nice, but prob one that you would not take small kids with you as there are alot of uphill steps. The trail at the falls is very easy for everyone to enjoy. Trail 6 and 4 were pretty easy also. We also went to the Natural Arch Scenic area and the hike was long, but worth it!
We do not recommend staying at the lodge. Very old and rooms need major updating. Restaurant was fair(only ate breakfast & that was enough) Plenty of good places in Corbin (@20 min drive) and the Whistle stop in Stearns was good(@30 mins away) We had planned on staying longer, but pretty much did everything we planned in @2 days

Weekend getaway

Sitting on the back deck reading a book! Kayakers on the river!
Listening to the water, birds, and soaking up the sun.

Very peaceful and Pretty

By Sweetra |

We camped here as part of a road trip and ended up seeing the moonbow. It was a relaxing afternoon and evening. There were many people there but everyone was friendly and having fun. We walked some of the trail and got many different view points of the falls. It's a very pretty and peaceful place. The campsite was not close to the falls. We had to drive there and park. The convenience was just being able to stay there overnight without having to drive far after watching the moonbow.

SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!

By Cheryl B |

We went to this park, which was way off the beaten path and they were doing raod work so it took forever to get there. It was beautiful to see the falls. There were a few different places from where you could view the falls that gave you different views. Very pretty area, Saw a tree growing out of a big rock!

Afternoon Excursion

By Chloe Thomas |

My family and I visited Cumberland Falls on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It had been years since some had been and others had never been. The falls were amazing and the park offered many different areas to look at them! So many great views and photo opportunities! We were able to walk down to a beach area as well. The park also has a gift shop, snack shop, and restrooms. You could easily spend an entire afternoon here or even a day! After visiting the park, we hiked Eagle Falls. This trail was right over the bridge and around the corner. We passed it on the way in. It was about a 2 mile hike. Parts of it were harder than others but it was worth it. Eagle Falls was beautiful but the views of Cumberland Falls were what made the hike! I highly recommend both of these activities for a fun afternoon excursion!

Mother Nature at her best

By Mainzer |

We are camping in the area and took a little drive to see this beautiful park. It’s a nice ride in the country to get to the park with a couple older pull offs on the way. Take time to stop and check out the views from these pull offs. We stopped at the resort hotel and walked around and checked out the rich history inside. Then we drove about 1/2 mile down to the falls. Give yourself an hour or more to walk around the trails and see the natural wonders of this falls. I asked in the gift shop for a post card that shows the falls frozen…. I was shocked the had no large pictures of the frozen falls.

Wonderful Kentucky Park

By Kim T |

I live within 2.5 hours of this park but this was my first visit. I was with my husband and 2 teenage sons. The main attraction is the falls and they are pretty but the large logs and trash along the banks are a little off putting. I understand with flooding that this happens but the amount of trash is pretty extreme as in televisions, tires, and plastic of all sizes. We got a map and were advised by the staff to do the Eagle Falls trail. Very small parking area so go early. Shorter hike but pretty extreme with many rock formations and steps but worth the work. Beautiful and quiet falls and the trail follows along the river so even more wonderful views of the main falls. We plan on going back for the Moonbow and do the raft.

Hikes and Buffet

By IrishVoodoo |

The Kentucky Park system is one of the best in the Nation.
The trails were well maintained and not busy. Likely due to the heat. The overlooks and gift shops were not crowded. The ed center was welcoming with cold drinks and AC!
The buffet was well priced, had great options and a beautiful view! Plenty of parking, friendly service with tips of what to see and skip.
We have a list to see in the fall for a return trip!

Beautiful in any weather

By Steve B |

We dropped by on a very rainy and chilly October day. The color of the trees added to the beauty. Very nice park. We may try the cabins next time.

Beautiful Falls and Lodge

By RobertSuzanne |

The Park is quite nice and plenty of places to rest and picnic. A short and easy walk will take you to the Cumberland Falls – very beautiful. There are many hiking trails and places to fish if you need an activity.
Dupont Lodge is a very nice, old lodge building. The rooms are well decorated and a good size. The grounds are very well maintained and have places to sit to see the river below as well as a fire pit for cooler evenings. The on site restaurant is good but it does not serve alcohol. It does serve a very nice buffet breakfast which is included with your room. We did not find the staff to be very friendly or helpful. We arrived at 3:30 pm and were told that check in is at 4:00, no exceptions so come back later. And we were told it just like that. There were 3 staff members standing behind the desk, as well as the person checking people in, and none were helpful, they never seemed to want to help you or really answer any questions. The guests appeared to be a bother to them. The wi-fi did not work the whole time we were there even though the staff kept telling us it did.

Great stop on way to Tennesee

By Greg S |

Was looking for a stop to break up our drive, and this was well worth the time. Easy park and visit with great views. We spent about 45 minutes there exploring the falls and river. Could have spent longer if we would have hiked the trail. The drove into the falls takes about 20 minutes off the interstate. Definitely recommend.

Eh!!

By Conrad K |

The staff was the best thing about the resort.. the vending machines were out of service for the two days there.. the restaurant only had a small buffet.. the same thing both days except the main item.. one day it was meatloaf.. the next day Shepard pie.. good taste but for the price the buffet was small same soup on the two days.. the room was small outdated uncomfortable.. no microwave or mini fridge.. but like I said the staff were amazing. We won’t stay here again. At the falls Christian I. The nature center was a amazing young man

One could not have found a better place!

Coming in from a long trip in ten hours of rain, we found this unusual lodge for an overnight stay. It turned out that we both wished we could stay longer.

Beautiful waterfall! Several different spots you can go to in order to see the falls!! Next time we are going to do the rafting!!

Great Place For a Weekend Getaway

By Kevan A |

I planned a visit to the falls and the resort for my wife's birthday. The staff were very accommodating and professional in the communications we had leading up to the trip. I wanted to surprise my wife with a bouquet of flowers for her birthday, and the staff was able to recommend a local florist and had them waiting in our room when we arrived. Overall the room was in satisfactory condition. There were some hairs on the bed spread, more than likely left over from whomever had made it up. There was also a small amount of something on one of the bathroom toilet seats. Which for me being a guy none of this was an issue, but for a clean freak like my wife it was a bit concerning. Overall though the everything at the resort was great. We ate in the restaurant and it provided a good buffet for both dinner and breakfast. The area around the lodge was a great place to get out and explore. We had a good time and I would highly recommend to any of my family or friends.

Beautiful Views

By Eden H |

I was very pleased with the sites, i had a wonderful time with friend's and family hiking for the day. They have great accomodations in regard to food and a nice gift shop. The waterfall and the surrounding nature is just breathtaking, i would recommend to everyone that it is a wonderful place to spend the day to enjoy nature.

Beautiful Park all the way!

By Eric T |

We went here to see the falls and do some hiking. It's an extremely clean and well maintained park with incredible views everywhere you look. The hiking trails were more intense than we expected, but views made it worth it. The camp ground was very nice as well.

Beautiful Park

By Terri K |

We visited the park and it was very well-maintained and clean. There is no direct access to the falls but you can view them from the top and get close.

Beautiful and amazing

Went on the whitewater rafting trip, don't waste the money, go kayaking instead. Beautiful and amazing.

At any season throughout the year at any time of the day or night Cumberland Falls is a beautiful sight!

Fantastic falls and park area, trails not so much

By Paul K |

We were lucky enough to visit during extremely high water levels. The falls were roaring! Walk to the overlooks are easy and paved. To walk to the lower viewing spots you will walk down stairs, which may be wet.

If you wish to walk trails be prepared to navigate with little descriptive signage. Markers were absent and trails aren’t well maintained. We attempted to hike to Slaughter Dog falls and bumbled around. There was zero indication where the trail head started. We did finally come upon the falls but it was happenstance.

The high river level also was above the trail as well, though no signage or warning.

Still a pleasant visit. Go for the falls not the hike.

A jewel in God's country

By Jerry R |

Wanting to take a short daycation my wife and I decided to visit Cumberland Falls in Corbin Kentucky. The park is immaculate and handicap accessible. The views of the Falls was something you should not miss if you're in the area. A great stop.

Beautiful Views and Amazing Rainbows

By jcslmt |

We visited in fall 2018 and saw the rainbows off the waterfall. The day we were there, there hadn't been much recent rain, so the water was super clear and flowing well. The views were amazing all throughout the area. We are going to return in September 2019 for the moonbow.

Beautiful

By Michael J |

The park is great full of hiking trails and great set up for views of the falls themselves. Make sure to get a cone before you leave. BEST ice cream ever.

What Mother Nature has done

By Jged |

We love the falls! This is the third time we have been. The river was up and the falls was roaring. It’s incredible to see the power of Mother Nature. The walk to the falls from the parking lot is close and fairly level. Visitors with disabilities can easily see the falls. The area is smooth and has a snack bar, bathrooms, and gift shop. There is a more challenging path on the other side of the falls for climbers. We have been there in the spring, fall and summer. The falls have been different each time.

A Respite From Covid 19.

By BILLB47 |

My wife and I took a three day tour out of Newton NC with Christian Tours to see the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in KY. Due to Covid restrictions the normal itinerary was changed. On our way from NC to KY we had a pit stop at the Falls. What a beautify pace to stop. The 69 foot water fall was in full swing. You were limited as to how close you could get to the falls but the views up and below were very good. It is a place of peace and tranquility. It was well worth the stop. There is a place to get snacks and of course a gift shop.

Well worth the stop.

By jgbtravels |

We were actually coming back from Pine Mountain State Park and decide to make a quick stop here to see the falls. I haven’t been here since I was a teen and forgot how beautiful the falls were. The viewing area is well maintained and easy for folks to take pictures of the magnificent falls. Fortunately everyone was maintaining social distancing during this virus threat and most were wearing masks. We stopped off at the lodge first and were greeted by friendly staff. It’s really a beautiful lodge so a stay in the future may be in the works for us.

No Moonbow

By Paul H |

These falls are in the state resort park which also includes a public pool, horseback riding, camping, hiking etc. I just went to see the falls. Very wide and spectacular. Like a mini Niagra. Many stairs to climb down near the base and down to the beach which is about .25 mile walk past the falls. Wanted to see moonbow but park closed at dusk and the best way to see it is with a full moon. Park has gift shop and a little sandwich shop near front entrance. RR's are located just past them and are modified. Not just pit holes. If you have problems with steps, you will only be able to see it at eye level. Be careful if you go down to beach. Steep stairs, slippery rocks and a wet footpath are just some of the things I had to conquer. Seems like a place where a family could really enjoy themselves.

A great, relaxing time

By Boro270 |

A great place to visit, hike, and let kids run around. We love visiting here every time we are in Corbin! A must place if you’re in the area!

Fun trail!

By Carolyn W |

Great Dog slaughter trail but don’t go at the end of the day, gets dark quick! Beautiful though! Missed the falls sadly

Great Park and amazing Falls

By Bill P |

Have looked at photos of Cumberland falls but to see it first hand was very impressive. There are several viewing spots just a short walk from the parking area. Park is very clean and comfortable. Highly recommend this if you are in the area.

Great weekend trip

By dianeinfarmers |

Enjoyed our stay that included hiking, kayaking and relaxing at Cumberland Falls State Resort. Perfect time of year with weather and leaves not fully out - makes for a better/different view than summer. I love hiking the same place in different seasons to see the difference nature brings each time. Brought my dog and he was very welcome by all staff and other visitors. Only negative was the cabin (per the online reservation) was supposed to have daily housekeeping and was not cleaned. We only stayed 2 nights so we managed. Management was apologetic and I am sure they would have accommodated our needs if we asked during our stay. We plan on returning again.

Beautiful, peaceful place

By Nicole |

Was a very clean place to visit. Enjoyed being there in the fall. The leaves were changing colors, and the weather was beautiful. Even a city girl like me can appreciate it here in the woods of Kentucky.

Amazing Falls

By Mark L |

View was incredible. Guide suggested we walk down to some lookouts for more views. Wouldn’t have known about them had we not been told.

Beautiful

By Dustan Sanders |

This place is amazing. Cumberland Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls anywhere and is so easy to enjoy. We also hiked to Eagle Falls and Dog Slaughter Falls, both of which take about 45 minutes to get to, but are worth it.

Cumberland Falls in the Fall

By Lynne T |

This is a really family friendly place to walk and enjoy the falls. You can hike as far as you like and choose the difficulty range you are able to manage. All ages were in the park the day we were there. Lots of picnic spots too.

Don't Miss the Moonbow!

By DreamingwithEyesOpen |

Cumberland Falls State Park is beautiful by day, but you must return on a full moon night to see the moonbow over Cumberland Falls. The arc of white light extending from the base of the falls has an unearthly beauty.
But take note: You can only see the moonbow from the observation point nearest to the park entrance.
The first night we visited the park we stood watch at a viewpoint farther away, hoping to miss the crowds. But the only thing we missed was the moonbow.
We tried again the next night and were resigned to disappointment when we decided to stop by the main overlook on our way out. And there it was! For once, the easy path was best.
If you're looking for something more strenuous, spend a morning on the park's Eagle Falls Trail. It's quite steep in places, with a rock scramble at the end of the trail, but you'll be rewarded with great views of Cumberland Falls and a refreshing stop at the base of Eagle Falls. Well worth the effort.

Awesome experience

By Jennifer D The Frugal Vacationista |

The cabins, lodge, staff, and grounds exluding the base of the falls was absolutely beautiful. The view from the terrace at the lodge is absolutely breathtaking . There was a delicious continental breakfast and the restraunt was very affordable for lunch and dinner. The only complaint I would have iss the base of the falls contained a ton of garbage Even in areas that were easily accessible to clean up.

Niagara of Kentucky

By Justin P |

We visited Cumberland Falls for a day hike with our dog. It's only a short walk on a paved trail to view of the waterfall. The massive drop on the Cumberland River produces a lot of mist, so rainbows are likely on a sunny day and you can even see a moonbow at night. This area of the park stays open late to view the moonbow after dark. Despite what the park says, it is definitely not the only place in the Western Hemisphere to see a moonbow. There are several other trails in the park as well. Moonbow Trail follows the river downstream to Daniel Boone National Forest and access to Dog Slaughter Falls. Eagle Falls is on the McCreary County side of the river. Dogs are not allowed, so we took turns to visit this beautiful waterfall. Awesome place and definitely worth a visit.

Easy stroll, convenient parking

By LiveAsATraveler |

An adventurous drive to get there but the parking is easy and it's very short stroll to the falls. Maybe it's the locations of the viewing areas but the falls seem much, much smaller in person then in the pictures. Nice stop, but not very impressive.

Worth a stop

By Julie W |

This is a beautiful place to stop and take a quick walk to see the Falls. There's a visitor center and shop too.

Something to remember

By Rick S |

Raft ride to the falls!!! I highly recommend it to anyone who can make the walk down and back. I walk with a cane and it was hard but worth every step of the way to me and my wife. We would both do it again. The falls are spectacular to watch from both above at the railing and below in the raft. I am 66 my wife is 65 and we both really had fun.

Enjoyable place, reasonable expectations

By TwoKs2017 |

Wonderful state park. Hiking includes some very easy trails and other more strenuous. Cabins are not fancy yet well appointed and we were very satisfied. Restaurant is a convenience and so long as keep expectations in check all is fine. For better food head into nearby towns or bring in some groceries. We found a couple of very good eateries in Corbin. Staff was very pleasant.

Fun little trip

By Stephanie B |

Nice paved walk. Dogs permitted if leashed. I really recommend going before noon to beat the crowds.

Beautiful stay

By R1lissa |

The area is very beautiful with lots of hiking trails. We hiked a few with our 8 yr old, and she did great. The falls area has a parking lot, visitor center and bathrooms. It is very disappointing that you cannot swim or even wade in the river considering there is a "beachy" spot just below the falls.
We stayed in one of the park's Woodland cabins with two double beds. Beds were not comfortable, and the room could have been a little cleaner. The restaurant inside the lodge was very good with great prices. (Kids meals are less than $4). The dining area has a view of the mountain ridge and part of the river. It was fun for bird, squirrel, chipmunk and raccoon watching while dining.
The horse back riding was worth the $20/person charge. The ride was about 45 mins long and went into the mountains.
The pool is currently closed due to COVID.

Quick Detour

By Lindsey S |

Took a detour from my route so I could revisit Little Niagara, Cumberland Falls. The grounds here are very beautiful and the waterfall is a marvel, of course!

Cumberland Falls is worth a trip

By Candace |

Cumberland Falls is a great fall and so many vantage points easy to get to without a hike. We stayed at the cabins while here and enjoyed being so close to the trails. One was right off the front porch. I would have loved to sit on the porch of the lodge, but we’ll have to do that next trip. Eagle Falls is worth the hike, but lots of steps is an understatement.

Great place to stop and stay for a while

By Terri B |

My husband and I went here on the way home after a vacation, it was a great place to stop and spend the night and have an excursion. We had a wonderful time and the falls are gorgeous!

Would return

By Wendy L |

Beautiful park that is well maintained. Highly recommend seeing moon bow water falls. We did miss trail 1 & 2 next to falls somehow but explored beach and rocks at water edge. Also had very informative nature center.

Great half day trip

By AverageJoe |

Second time this year visiting Cumberland Falls and this time was great, the first time the water level in the river was very high. I was going to put a few photos on here but it seems that Tripadvisor will not allow larger format photos to be downloaded. Get with it Tripadvisor.

GREAT stop while traveling through!!

By keith1121 |

Stumbled across a pic of the falls on facebook and had to go see for ourselves! Nice little drive and only a few hours from home. We had seen a post comparing to Niagara Falls... they really don't, but still a very nice water fall. The sound was amazing! I went to the lower level for some better pics while my wife waited in the shade at the park. Not a whole lot to see besides the falls, unless you like to hike, but well worth the stop if you are close to the area. I enjoyed watching people go near and under the fall in their kayak.

View the falls

By Renee T |

Awesome view of the falls and handicap accessible. The area is all paved and can be easily walked. For those that steps are no problem, you can even get closer to the river. There is a nice gift shop with cold drinks available if the food cart isn't open.

Beauty of Nature all Around!

By Lori M |

I love the area this was the first time I have been here but I do plan on going back. We wanted to see the MoonBow, but it was too cloudy. We camped at Cliffy Campground, THis was not a really obvious place to find. WE drove back and forth in the ridgeline campground till we got frustrated and left. Stopped in at the lodge for directions, the camp ground was hidden behind the pool area. It was a really nice beautiful tent only area which I love because I hate being next to a camper. Wood was easy to find but this was in april so I dont know if they sell it somewhere or not. We went to the lodge for breakfast. The food was really good.

Gorgeous view of waterfall.

By Randall |

Me and the wife love coming here on our way to Gatlinburg TN. Waterfall is gorgeous and the drive is something. In my opinion, fall is the best time but that’s just me.

Family weekend getaway

By cheryljag |

Cumberland Falls is always beautiful and this weekend visit was no exception. The gift shop is adequate and there was even a funnel cake truck there.

Beautiful state park

By Chris S |

On our drive from the Smokies to Mammoth Cave, this was a great spot to stop (need to go out of your way, but worth it). Pretty quiet state park with a very large waterfall that really does look like a smaller version of Niagara falls. Nice walkways downstream from the falls allow you to stop at different vantage points.

Beautiful Falls

By Amanda S |

Beautiful waterfalls, quiet setting. As mentioned previously, the copious amount of trash is especially hard to miss at the lower level, taking away from the beauty of this location. General maintenance and upkeep seems to also be needed.

The gift shop and snack bar area are a lovely asset to this state park. I was also shocked to see no gate fee, which could potentially generate revenue for the upkeep needed.

So disappointed

By Betsy M |

We ave stayed at all 8 Ohio State Parks that have lodges and were excited to expand to a Kentucky State Park. Wow what a difference. From the outside the Lodge looks lovely but inside it is very old. Our room with a “river” view was on the 3rd floor with no elevator. There are no balconies off the rooms. The King bed took up the entire room. The mattress was ancient and too soft for us.the tv was tiny. After hauling our stuff up and discovering our room we hauled it back down and asked for a refund. They gave it graciously,I don’t think we were the first to ask for one. The room was certainly it worth the 145.00 they asked for it. We did drive on down to see the falls and they are very pretty. Are they the Niagra of the South as advertised? Not for me.

Beautiful

By Debby W |

Beautiful and very clean park. Plenty of parking but there is a lot of walking to get close to the falls. There are a lot of tables for a picnic or just to rest. Restrooms are open. There is a path for handicapped to see the falks

Wild River

By Jim K |

Just watching the waterfall’s is mesmerizing! A couple short hikes along the falls are easy for all ages. Gives you various perspectives of the falls. Amazed by the amount of garbage the river sweeps downstream and so will you. Kids can pan for gems at a small cost. Nice little gift shop for snacks.

Beautiful fall

By Sally W |

Pull into parking lot and fall is right there, no hike needed. You can walk a little further to the 2 other observation points to view the fall full on. And walk to a lower point to look up at the fall. At this time of the year, there was nobody there so you don't have to fight with people trying to get a vantage point to take pictures.

Beautiful Waterfall

By TrailTrekker15 |

Cumberland Falls was recommended to us by some relatives. We were not disappointed! It is a short walk from the parking area down to the waterfall. The falls were beautiful! I can see the resemblance to a small Niagara. There are a number of overlooks with different views of the falls. There is a ton of trash everywhere in the park. It seems to be a major problem. There are other trails too with additonal waterfalls and views which we did not have time to explore. We'll save that for next time!

Scenic wonder

By jbtraveller2000 |

The falls are beautiful , the scenery in the park is lovely . The falls are magnificent ,
but there is an area just past the falls , full of trash , which takes away the
whole experience . Seems some people have no respect for nature ,
themselves or others . Has been going on for many years , because there is even a tourist sign stating high water carries the trash downstream .Well , if it's been
going on that long , why not install netting over the railing or plexiglass in
front of the railing? Problem solved .
Stopped in at the lodge , beautiful building and incredible patio views of the
river . Due to present environment , they practically scream at you that
restaurant is only doing take out . Both in person and over the phone . Very disconcerning .

Worth every penny!

I searched for 3 days for a cabin that would allow my 60 lb. dog. We needed to be near Corbin for a funeral. The cabins were 15-20 minutes away from I-75 which was right there where we needed to be at the first Corbin exit. I had read some negative comments about the resort and was a little worried about what we might find. We booked and executive cabin though it was more space (2 bedroom, 2 bath) than we needed. However we wanted to have home-like options since it was a fair distance out in the country; especially after dark on those curvy mountain roads. The cabin was lovely! We brought food to prepare breakfast each morning and I had all the cookware required to complete that task each morning. I was happy to find a 10" cast iron skillet as part of the mix. I did have to work on the skillet, someone put it up wet I think, as it was a little rusty. There was a metal scrubbing pad there so I scrubbed it with salt and oil, rinsed it, and put it in the oven upside down @ 400 for a bit to season it properly. For the staff and other guests who don't know this, now you do. The rooms were clean though the couch had a smell to it like someone had smoked in the room so I covered it with a sheet. My hubby thinks that when the wind blew hard outside, the odor was coming from the fireplace directly in front of the sofa. We didn't build a fire but someone did and the ashes were still there. The sheet worked for me and I was no longer distracted by the smell when I sat down. Speaking of the couch, it's the one negative in my review. Both chairs were very comfortable but that couch had seen better days and it was the only seat that allowed you to lift your legs. Since I spent my most pleasant day with my dog at my feet, the windows open, curled up on the couch reading a good book, the only thing between pleasant and perfect was the spongy couch. I have no complaints whatsoever about the beds, bathrooms, quantity and quality of towels, kitchen supplies for basic cooking, deck, or the spacious yard area we had off the decking and front of the cabin. Thank you so much for providing outside trash receptacles at each cabin! We have stayed places before that I had no idea where to place the doggy poo bags. The outside was illuminated, paved, and felt safe even at night when I was out walking my dog. Given that we were there for something other than a vacation, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in this cabin and it was closer and cheaper than any other similar accommodation I found in my 3 day search.

Such a great place. Hotel, cabins and restaurant was amazing. Perfect friends trip! Restaurant buffet was very good

By Shelley M |

We had a couple stay in the hotel and two couples stayed in different cabins. Loved the lodge it was great. Cabins were perfect!! Restaurant buffet was good-great deal for the price. Great vacation!!

Waterfall

Beautiful park with hiking trails and beautiful views of the falls. I enjoy the lower falls because of the beautiful area around. Trails are easy and shady.

Moonbow and Rainbow

By Nicole L |

We traveled to the falls in order to see the Moonbow or Lunar Rainbow. We loved seeing this beautiful natural phenomenon. It was absolutely gorgeous seeing this at nearly midnight.
We went back the next day to visit the falls during daylight hours and was not disappointed. Just as beautiful!
Parking for the Moonbow was a mess, my advise would be to carpool for this, there were cars parked everywhere.

# day stay with a group.

By Airchaplain |

Arrived on Sunday and left Wednesday at Noon. A stone lodge with a rustic interior recently updated. Had a nice room with up to date bath. Ate all the meals buffet style. All three daily meals were great with enough choices at each setting. Don't pass on the catfish it is great. The activity director was great in having us play some games and the 1/2 day trip to a closed coal mine was fun and informative. And don't forget why we were there Cumberland Falls, ask them about the night moon bow. You will enjoy as our entire group of retired folks did. I got to sing with a local band one night.

Disappointing weekend

By Barb J |

Went for a relaxing weekend, definitely not a relaxing place. Staff were Very nice and friendly, room was very clean, but the air conditioner in our room was making a terrible noise so we had to turn it off in the middle of the night. There was a side exit door near our room which slams loudly every time someone goes in or out. Some housekeeping staff were not wearing masks in the hallway. Every time someone in the room upstairs walked around the floor squeeked very loudly. Went to the falls, there was alot of trash around, people were climbing on rocks and getting in the water where the signs were clearly posted this was not allowed. No sign of a park ranger there at all, even late at night. We did attend a program by the park naturalist which was very nice, but for the rates they Charge at the lodge, it is definitely not worth staying there. Very disappointing weekend.

Waterfall Delight

By GSMLover |

We spent several hours here viewing the falls and hiking. \We hiked to Eagle Falls which was slightly challenging as you need to descend several sets of stairs and then climb over rocks to get to the actual falls site, but it was worth the effort to get there. After that we continued on the loop trail.....not highly recommended. You move away from the river and walk mostly uphill through the woods to get back to your starting point to get to Eagle Falls. After that we moved over to the other side of the falls to have lunch and take more pictures of Cumberland Falls. The park was quiet as we were there on a Wednesday. There are rest rooms in the park, and they are air conditioned! There is also a gift shop which was open so we were able to buy a few souvenirs. My daughter and I went down below the falls to take some more pictures in the designated spaces. Lots of picture opportunities.

Great stop no matter how long you have!

By Monica Hall |

We only had a brief time but wanted to stop on the way to visit family. It had been 10 years since we visited. Always a breathtaking sight, and well worth it even if you can’t stay long.

Only here for the Moonbow, it did not disappoint!!!

By luvhighway1 |

First off I want to say the Moonbow has been on my bucket list for a couple years now and I finally got to see it!!! Yes, it is amazing and worth the trip, even during the cooler months. I would say the cooler months are the best because most likely there less people (opinion only, have never been during the warmer months.)

With that being said...... unfortunately there are going to be A LOT OF RUDE people. People who have not read the suggestions about common courtesy surrounding the Moonbow. People will still use flash. People are going to use bright flash lights to navigate and shine them directly in your eyes, rather than using a red or blue light. A LOT of people just want a picture and aren't there to enjoy the beauty, they don't care about others trying to get photos, esp if they are using a tripod and DSLR camera.
Make sure you read the suggestions about camera settings.

Nice Getaway!

By Lorraine B |

We were very surprised by the falls. Being from the Pennsylvania, I didn't expect much because I was used to visiting Niagara Falls in NY. Of course this didn't compare, but for Southern falls they were very nice. All in all it was a very pleasant day. Worth the drive from Knoxville, TN.

It sucked

By William |

This place is awful. Our site had trash everywhere when we arrived. Our firepit was missing major parts. The bathroom was nasty.

Day Trip

By wintershalo |

Visited the Cumberland Falls. Took some great pictures of the falls. Nice Day trip to just get outside and enjoy nature.

Beautiful Park and Falls!

By rzahm |

We took a 2nd visit to Cumberland Falls Resort Park since we just passed thru on our 1st visit. The park is beautiful, even in winter. Some blooms were present, but the real star is the Falls. They call it the Niagara of the South. It is impressive this time of year because of thaws and rain.
We also booked a room at the Dupont Lodge. It is an old stone building with rustic charm. We visited it before and decided that we wanted to stay here.
It is well kept, for being in the middle of the woods, and most rooms have been updated. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff is excellent. Breakfast was included with our room.
The Falls are .5 miles from the lodge and there are trails to the main areas.
This is a great place to visit and hike.

Beautiful park that deserves your visit

By danieldfultzphd |

Cumberland Falls is sort of a hidden gem for hikers. There are several trails, some of which are not very well maintained, and with various levels of difficulty, but all are doable. Our family visits every few years and we usually have a great time. There are many things to do for all ages. Watch out for poison ivy, ticks, and mosquitos, but if you are prepared for that you'll have a great time!

Beautiful Falls, and nice walk down to the bottom.

By Dave N |

Had been here once before by myself, a few years ago, and wanted my wife to see it. In terms of volume and size, probably second only to Niagara Falls. Very impressive. Probably as a hangover from COVID, there were parts of the park above the falls that were closed, but hopefully they'll be opening up soon. Nice, easy walk down to the river. All in all, well worth spending a couple hours here.

Historical Building

By travelwriter52 |

I've always wanted to stay in the lodge. I got a king "suite" mostly because I didn't want double beds. It wasn't bad, but I won't stay there again. Unable to get internet, lots of stairs, A really odd set of rooms that utilized part of the hall I think. And the bathroom was so small, the door almost didn't clear the toilet. There was a partial view of the river from the sitting room. The sitting room had a pull out sofa and tv and bathroom. Perfect for a family with kids. I only used the main bedroom. I will go back but will stick with cabins. Don't go late to breakfast. The food was not freash.

Serene!

By Rebecca M |

The waterfall was beautiful! There is a place to view the falls as it overlooks it or you can follow the trail and signage for the lower view.
Both were nice!

I found the park by the gift shop and falls to be well kept with picnic tables and trash cans available. But you know, sometimes people are gross and just throw stuff down. If you come across that please pick it up. It’s your park too and don’t let it stop you from enjoying the falls.

The gift shop was cute and full of this and that tourist stuff. The check out was smooth and the service was pleasant.

Always our go to place

When the family wants a little adventure and we can’t think of anywhere to go we always find ourself here. Been going since I was a kid

Review of park resort

The service is nice. The employees are very attentive. The hotel is clean as a whole. But it is soooo crowded. Still, we come every year because the sea is so beautiful.

What Beauty

They claim its the 2nd largest water falls east of the missisipi, The views are breathtaking,You might get kucky and the mist will create a rainbow, The day we went we got to see 2 rainbows,Hike down to the lower falls and look up stream at the spectacular view on the main falls, We went during fall foilage and hiked from camp area at cumberalnd and the 1.5 mile hike was just one beatiful view after another,Fall foilage is very special time to visit..

Have to See!

By Beachcomb_33 |

If you love waterfalls, you have to see this one. So picturesque and beautiful! My first time visiting and I really liked it. Plenty of parking. Park and then you walk up to the falls. There is a gift shop, restrooms, and a place to grab a snack. The waterfall is very beautiful. You can view it from the top or take the path and see it from the bottom. I like both views. So beautiful, worth a stop!

Relaxing and beautiful scenery

By S336 |

I've been to cumberland falls both during the day and at night to see the moon bow. Neither a disappointment> Theres hiking, kayaking and what i like to do look and listen to the water. The beautiful scenery will just take all your cares away. The moon bow was something to see. we went lower down and waited to see it, then walked up top to see from another angle. My cell phone couldn't capture this on camera but the regular cameras was. A nice gentleman let me see what he took and it was breathtaking. So if nature or photography is your thing you'll love this area.

Neat

By hoosierboy72 |

This was a pleasant surprise. The park was very clean. It was quite busy the day we went. I was neat to see the big waterfall, there were other waterfalls you could hike too but it was a hot day so we decided to skip that.

Dog Slaughter Falls

By shareneva |

Dog Slaughter Falls Trail is located about 4 miles on 195/Forest Rd. We skipped the first trailhead that was 3.75 miles long, and instead drove about 2 more miles to the second trailhead. The second trail is only 1 mile long, but there were no markings off the road. It was on the left hand side, with a small place for parking. Once we passed a footbridge, we saw a sign verifying the trail. We had elementary age children and were able to hike to the bottom of the falls in about 45 minutes (shorter on the way back). The waterfall was beautiful and strong. The water was clear, but with a brown, rocky bottom. You can swim at your own risk (we did not), but we did bring water shoes and walked around in it a bit.

Beautiful place

By Natasha |

A lot of fun and also educational! When we was there a man was playing a flute like instrument and it sounded very beautiful, they had signs to teach you about the people who once lived here under the cliffs and they also had a gold mining thing

Nice but crowded camping

By Uncle Bill |

Beautiful park with nice walks and nice staff. My wife and I with our three grandchildren aged 10, 7 and 3 stayed 2 nights at the ridge line campground. My only complaint is that the camping sites are very close together and crowed. I spoke to the very nice staff and we were moved to another spot that was still inclined 15 degrees but doable. She said the campground is old and RV s have become larger. But be aware of this is you are pulling a trailer.

Waterfall worth the drive

By George D |

A little off the beaten path, but the waterfalls is worth the drive. Other than that, there is not a lot there this time year. The lodge is not open for food. Giftshop is ok.

The falls speak for themselves!

By hj99 |

We were passing through and decided to stop! The falls are a short walk from the parking lot by the gift shop/visitors area. I've been to Niagra Falls on the US side and thought Cumberland Falls matched this scenery-wise. I would like to go back when we have more time and explore more!

Campers Beware

By ortwinverona |

Beware the campground if you have a camper or RV. Campsites are situated on a narrow ridge; small and crowded with no turn around space. They don’t tell you that. After a long day of travel we had to abandon that plan and go to a private campground down the road, where they just laughed. They see it all the time
The park is beautiful and it’s easy to view the falls. Definitely glad we came back for this experience

awesome falls

By bettek |

Had heard about this place from a Youtube video. Sure glad we stopped! It had rained the day before so falls were really rushing. Easy walk paths to get different views. Not very many people there. Looks like it would be a fun place to visit and stay in the summer time.

Great stop on our road trip.

By Rosa C |

Everything that I look for in a road trip stop! Beautiful nature, waterfall, gift shop, visiting center, consecration w/ice cream, clean restrooms, trails, history, a little beach area and gem mining. We really enjoyed our time here.

Priceless view of the Cumberland River

By Helen P |

We stopped overnight in the Park and had a good look at the Falls. It's a beautiful area. We made reservations to stay overnight at the Lodge, and while it is not a 5 star location, and a little in need of updating, it was warm and welcoming. Since not many guests were registered for this time in the Winter, a limited restaurant service was offered. For supper, there was a soup-and-salad buffet which was quite fine, and in the morning, a limited breakfast of scrambled eggs, biscuits, and sausage with gravy. The gravy was less-than, but the effort was kind and we were the only people in the restaurant. But here is the money-shot! We had the most amazing view of the Cumberland River at sunrise from our hotel room.

Kayaking trip

By DerbyCityWanderer |

This place is gorgeous. The park facilities at the falls are pristine and well kept. If you're going to kayak below the falls this is where you put in. Take the stairs by the falls all the way down to the water and this is the beginning of the "below the falls" trip. There are maybe 4 to 5 class 2+ class 3 Rapids so make sure you know what you're doing. If have kayaked whitewater and have good boat control you'll be fine. We paddled it at a low level, can't remember what it was but it was a lot of fun. Screaming right, center rock, and pinball were a lot of fun. There are a handful of spots you can stop and surf especially surfers wave which is also a great place to stop and have lunch. Just make sure that of you kayak below the falls that you pay the $10 to Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort to catch the boat ride out otherwise you'll be paying 4 to 5 miles of flat water which is torture.

Visit to Cumberland Falls

By Kathy S |

Cumberland Falls is breath taking. A beautiful spot in my home state. Has a nearby trail to Eagle Falls that is just above Cumberland Falls.

A beautiful place to spend a few days.

By Denise M |

We booked a campsite and was able to experience this park for 3 full days. The moonbow was absolutely stunning!! Yes it is CROWDED but worth it. You can't see the moonbow in its full glory with the naked eye so make sure to bring a camera to capture it! We took the Rainbow Mist Raft tour. It was pricey and short but definitely worth it to get up close to the falls. We hiked to Eagle Falls which was a beautiful well manicured trail. Horseback riding was fun if you like riding and at a great price. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is cleanliness. It's a bummer visitors are clearly trashing this place with rubbish faster than the park can clean up after them.

The park was great! The lodge, not so much.

By Amy B |

The park is definitely a must-see if you are visiting Kentucky, or even having a staycation, as we did. The trails were well maintained and the gift shop and cafe were nice. They do need some speed enforcement on those windy roads, however, and it would be great if there was a walking trail alongside the road for people that choose that route to get from the lodge to the falls. Otherwise, loved it! The lodge was ick, though. Wrote a separate review on that - can't recommend it. Stay elsewhere and drive in. It's inconvenient, but if you stay at the lodge you'll be leaving every mealtime anyway.

Great but pricey

By Jenna Garver |

We stayed for three days and two nights. We will be returning!! We didn't stay in the cabins, we had a lodge room, one of the ones that over looks the river. The view was great! Ate breakfast at the resturant which was good and not over priced. If your looking for a cheap regular hotel room though, this isn't it. It can be a little more expensive, especially if your getting a cabin. But overall we had a great time and stay! The staff was friendly and answered any of my questions. You can tell the lodge itself and the rooms are older but it's very clean.

A very nice photo walk

By Have Camera, Will Travel |

My partner and I arrived at the park about an hour before anyone was there and had the whole place to ourselves on a Tuesday morning. The flow in the spring is very impressive. There was quite a lot of mist being kicked up at the platform down closest to the bottom of the falls. We walked to the more distant view points and took so pictures. The beach area showed a lot of signs of flooding with trees piled up all over and a few man made things that appeared to have been swept away from somewhere. It was still an excellent area for pictures. Once we got all the shots we wanted, we headed back, used the restrooms, and were able to check out the gift shop, which had just opened. It was an very good stop.

AMAZING GEM!!!

By Connie D |

We rented a cabin which we shared with my sister and her husband. Well equipped, clean, and comfortable. Continental breakfast was offered for free at the lodge but we chose to cook. Trails, falls, and the park exceeded our expectations. We were blessed with beautiful weather and many hours of relaxation in front of the fire place or out on our patio deck overlooking the creek.

Lovely park, neat water fall.

By GeorgiaGal09 |

As we entered Kentucky, we stopped at the welcome center. I told the attendants that we were staying in Corbin, and one of them immediately suggested a side trip to the falls. We had a bit of extra time, so we visited the park with the sole purpose of seeing the falls. There had been quite a lot of rain, so the falls were really active, but it was an interesting area. I'm glad we took time to visit this park.

Perfect weekend getaway

By Steve K |

These folks had a tough time coming out of COVID, due to lack of available workers. Now they are up and running to their old professional standard. Hotel and restaurant staff are friendly, attentive, and professional. The building is immaculate.
We stayed in one of the newer cabins (256), and it was fantastic.
This park is a joy for hikers, with several great woodland trails. Of course, you should spend some time at the waterfall.
We will definitely be back!

Beautiful, dynamic falls

By TomandCarol312 |

State park staff a little shaky on activities, trail characteristics but couldn't take away from the beautiful falls! Most hiking was strenuous level so we didn't, opting for Big South Fork Rec. are instead.

I love this park!

By Otter H |

This is the crown jewel in the Kentucky state park system. The decor in the historic lodge is tasteful, the rooms are simple and homey, and it's always fresh, clean. and impeccably maintained. I hope they never change a thing, because it's perfect as is! With cheerful fires in both massive stone hearths, Christmas music playing, and the "halls" decked for Christmas, it feels warm and cozy, just like home. As always, the front desk staff is smiling, welcoming, efficient, and helpful. And that's just the lodge, to say nothing of the equally charming historic cottages, the many trails, and the historic waterfall itself. The view from the dining room is breathtaking, and the hot breakfast is free. I recommend this park above all others. I visit often and can't wait to return!

Charming!

By Wawamcb |

My sister booked a woodland room for us to look for the Moonbow and get away during COVID. What a treat! We read the reviews and became skeptical, but once we arrived we couldn’t have been happier. It’s a state park, not the ritz, but for a state park we were delighted. All needed conveniences for what I am referring to as glamping, amazing trail system, and the lodge is a beautiful stone structure that reminded us of a miniature Grove Park Inn. AM coffee on the big veranda overlooking the river was so very peaceful. I recommend this park highly, just remember it’s meant to be rustic.

Beautiful, need to return for longer visit

By Natimom1 |

Very easy to get to up a windy road and no fees, looks like there are nice camping facilities and trails to hike. Dog friendly. Not spectacular like Niagra but beautiful in its own woodsy frontier way. Loved our quick visit. Must return.

Niagara Falls of the South

By ascrappinmom |

This place is so worth the trip. The waterfall is amazing. I don't do well with steps because of knee issues but there is paths that took you to view points that dont require steps. There is one spot that I'm sure has an amazing view but there is steps involved. We visited after alot of rain so the water was pretty violent. Beautiful though.

Beautiful

By Myles313 |

We only stopped for a short hike around the main falls and it was pretty amazing except for the litter. Can’t believe human beings in a first world country in the 21st century are capable of that but either way worth a visit.

Loved It

By WildHaireAdventures |

We spent one night here and Loved it!
The lodge was super nice, our room was spacious and clean, and we had view of the river. The lodge restaurant was ok, not great. The restaurant staff was so friendly. The views of the waterfall was amazing. The gift shop and grounds were very clean. We hiked to Eagle Falls which had amazing views. The trail was well maintained and well marked. We would definitely return here.

Eagle Falls is a Must!!!

By Wanda R |

Take the hike to Eagle Falls. It is fantastic and so worth it. I am in my 60's and can be very cautious. There was nothing to be scared of on this hike. Yes there are stairs but they are sturdy. To get close to the falls you do have to climb over some rocks but it is very doable. Your reward is seeing Eagle Falls. So beautiful. The hike will take you at least 2 hours round trip but again it is worth it. This hike is across the river from the resort. When you start the hike you are walking next to Cumberland Falls which is very cool experience. I am so glad I did not chicken out on this hike based on some of the reviews I read. If your legs work good than you can handle this hike.

Great Falls, Go Horseback Riding

By Andy |

We were traveling from Tennessee to Michigan and made a quick pitstop at Cumberland Falls. Driving in we noticed there was horseback riding in the park.
After visiting the falls we stopped at the horses to inquire about riding. The guy working was in the middle of getting another family on horses and they were just about to leave for a ride. He added our family of 3 to the ride no problem and we were pleasantly surprised by the cost of only $20 per person! The guide was very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable.

The ride itself was great. You go up and down several mountains and other than crossing a couple of roads you stay away from any signs of civilization and you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere.

The horses were all well behaved and it seemed like they were well cared for. The horses are use to the ride you don't have to guide them at all. Except our 8 year old daughter was on a juvenile horse that hadn't quite finished his training. He kept stopping along the trail to grab a quick snack, eating leaves off of tree branches and leaves that had fallen on the trail. But everyone thought it was funny and it was the joke of the ride.

This horseback ride was extra special because we had to cancel our horseback ride in Gatlinburg Tennessee a few days before due to bad weather.
In ended up working out because the Gatlinburg horseback riding was something like $80 a person! I can't say for sure but I'm willing to bet this $20 ride was better than the $80 ride.

Cabins

By gailinnovato |

We are staying in Cabin 517. It's clean but there's a dusty musty smell. It's completely dark in every room. The bedspreads and curtains look ancient and worn.
The real problem is the showers. After we figured out how to use it the water stream is pityful.
For $205 per night I expected better.

Like to see staff

By Tommy H |

Beautiful. Awesome views. Went in evening. Nice lighted parking lots. Clean park area. Didn't see any park staff anywhere.

Great nature in action

By Sondra T |

Nice little walk to view the beautiful falls. There are stairs throughout the trail so I don’t recommend it for the disabled. I was sad to see all the litter on the shorelines. Mother Nature is so beautiful and to see human disrespect just makes you want to cry.

A death by a thousand cuts

By Catfan02 |

As a retired state employee and a 40-year long guest of KY State Parks, it breaks my heart to witness the steady decay of the facilities. These parks are in the most beautiful areas of the State. This past weekend, I stayed in a Woodland Room at Cumberland Falls SRP. The Falls and the grounds were beautiful, as usual. However, the food quality has slipped below that of a school cafeteria. And my mattress, if that's what it could be called, was TERRIBLE. I can ignore broken-down furniture, pealing paint, tiny bathrooms, and doors that don't close properly, but I refuse to loose sleep because of a hideous mattress. The budget has been reduced due to the decline in usage - but this situation begs the question - which came first - fewer guests due to inadequate facilities or inadequate facilities due to fewer guests?! Either way the staff remain OUTSTANDING and a special shout-out to Rosetta in the dining room (when it was open). They are doing the best they can with what they have to work with.

Beautiful Park - great views, walking trails.

By LiptonT7565 |

This is a beautiful park. We arrived at night/dark & the drive from the entrance to the resort takes about 15 min. due to the hilly/windy road. We were there on a Mon., Tues. We were very disappointed to find that the restaurant is NOT opened Mon., Tues., or Wed. Well...... that's a problem since we didn't bring any food & it's nearly 30 min. drive to the restaurant. You would think that they would have microwaves & mini fridge in the rooms... but nope. Nothing. The nearest towns are very small - so not a lot of options for meals. The one thing I do have to rave about was the mattress - it was very comfortable!! First time I've not experienced hip pain from lying in bed all night.

Been 4 times and this was the worst. We won’t be back.

By orgrits |

We rented a cabin (511) for 3 nights. The cabin was beautiful but the floor was filthy dirty and we had a 14 month old crawling around. I would have brought a mop if I had known. I brought a lot of utensils, plates, condiments, air fryer, paper towels and cups and washed all the ones they provided. There was a free breakfast at the lodge which was not edible. There was nothing to drink and the eggs were cold, watery and no microwave to warm them. It’s like no one cared

Fun Food and Camping

By Goldwing1_11 |

We enjoyed a great trip to the area. We camped at the one down on the right from the lodge. We were tent camping so for us it’s all about the bathhouses. The ones here were very clean, they even have two for families which were nice and roomy. We went to view the falls in the late afternoon. In areas you could almost walk across the the top. Nice area to walk around and take pictures of the falls and other interesting areas there as well. Went to the lodge for dinner all they had was the buffet not wild about that but the catfish was delicious and highly recommend.

Impressive falls, good views, lots of garbage

By ctc10s |

The falls themselves are very impressive and there are a number of good lookouts. As such, there's a large volume of people coming through the park. The amount of trash (bottles, tires, containers, multiple basketballs, etc) mixed in with natural debris washed up on shore at the bottom of the falls is sad. At the top of the beach, our family was greeted by the stench of rotting deer carcass - left their long enough some of the skeleton was exposed where it had been picked clean.

Stunning views even without a moon bow

By Pablo B |

I don't know what I was expecting but the falls were way more impressive than I was expecting. Looks like some new maintainence and railings installed along the pathways. Very easy to get around, pretty accessible and the views were stunning.

First Time Here and Quite Surprised

By MasterP007 |

Really glad that we decided to meet some family here. It does get super busy on the weekend, so parking can be crowded. The falls are simply beautiful. We are glad that we chose this place to meet.

Must See the Falls!

By js |

Enjoyed the falls, the beach and Eagle Falls trail. Just didn't know dogs are not allowed on that trail and the one across the street from it. So be aware that certain trails do not allow pets.

Karen Ison, who works in the visitor center, was very helpful and friendly! She helped us figure out where to go and what to see. She even gave us a map and told us how to get there. Thanks, Karen!

Fantastic

By Richard B |

This is such a gem here in Kentucky. Everything is well maintained and everone is so friendly. Fantastic views every where. Highly recommend this place.

Beautiful Park and Falls with lots to do

By Lynda H |

This is a beautiful park with lots of hiking opportunities, a gift shop, and a visitor's center. The staff in the visitor's center was very helpful with suggestions for not only the park but also nearby restaurants. We stayed in the area for three days to take advantage of the hikes and other attractions, but we could have stayed longer.

A Week in Paradise!

By Sunworshiper52 |

What a beautiful resort! We stayed for one week in October in one of the old CCC cabins. It was very cozy and picturesque. The cabin was completely furnished with comfortable beds and a full kitchen including all cooking utensils, appliances and even an ice maker in the refrigerator! We also had a working stone fireplace! There was a porch out front with two comfortable chairs in which we spent many hours reading or enjoying a cocktail!

There was plenty to do at this resort, miles of hiking trails running along the river under beautiful limestone cliffs. Of course the waterfalls were the big draw. We were there during the full moon and were lucky enough to see the "moon bow" during two separate nights. Horseback riding was another favorite. We were very impressed with how clean the paddocks were and how well kept the horse are. The wranglers were very knowledgeable and chose horses according to your ability. The trails were spectacular, winding through the woods with the trees in full color! The price was very reasonable too.

Ate breakfast in the lodge a couple times which is included in your stay. And we also had two great dinners, catfish and ribs! The food is buffet style, but the chef is a master and the food was delicious! The view of the river out the restaurant's windows are a bonus, as is the view from the veranda behind the lodge.

Absolutely Beautiful

We stumbled upon this by accident. So glad we did. We were on short trip from Michigan and saw Daniel Boone State Park on the map so we headed there. The falls were not huge but they are beautiful. We were there when you would be able to see the moonbow and it was a clear day. They said it could be seen between 10:30 and midnight. We went down around 8:30 and at 9 the clouds rolled in. So no moonbow but I would like to go back and try again.

Fresh air

Great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Ideal place to go on a Sunday afternoon and just chill

Great Park

Got to the park early and there were just a few other people there. Got some great views of the falls and were able to spot several rainbows over the water in the early morning light. We followed a rafting group down to the river's beach and my girls enjoyed playing in the sand a little. If you are just coming to see the main falls the hikes to the view areas are very easy and paved. We crossed the river and also hiked the Trail 9 loop and to Eagle Falls. Well worth the hike but not easy hikes. Had a very nice little gift shop where we treated the kids to souvenirs since they were such troopers on the hike.

Great Get-Away

By Jenny W |

The Falls are amazing, the hiking trails are stellar, and the lodge is wonderful--the staff are all so friendly and helpful, and it's beautiful. Pro-Tip: Ask for a river view room (there are only two). The view is incredible and we had a great time. Drove over to Blue Heron Mining Camp (really cool, about a half hour away) an into Corbin for dinner at the Wrigley Taproom (great local food). If you're looking for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, you can't do better than this. Also good for meetings--our weekend started out with a Board retreat and the accommodations were perfect.

Nice falls and trails

Nice spot with many hiking trails. Would have checked out a few different trails if time and situation would have allowed. A hiker could easily waste a day or two here. Beautiful spot!

Beautiful

First time visitor and enjoyed it. Plenty of vantage points with varying degrees of ease to view main fall. Wish there were more opportunities to clean up the litter. If you have a chance, good lungs and suitable shoes, hike the Eagle Falls trail too. It offers another vantage point to the main falls and takes you to another fall. Smaller in scope but worth the effort.

Second Largest Waterfall in Eastern U.S.!

By WiTraveller608 |

Just spent a morning at the Falls, starting with the obvious viewing area near the visitor center. Then crossed the river and took the trail to Eagle Falls. This trail is 1.5 miles and actually brings you closer to the large falls where you really sense the power and sound of the river. Eagle Falls itself is a small falls that may or may not have much flow depending on the season. There are other longer trails like Moonbow (10+ miles) and Cumberland River trail (5 miles) that I would like to try when I have more time.

Could Have Stayed Longer

We made a short stop on our way to Mammoth Cave. It's a beautiful park, and the waterfall is impressive. I could see staying to camp here for a couple of days. Admission to the park and the parking was free. There was a nice little gift shop. A lodge with a restaurant was not far, but we only stopped there to ask directions to the falls.

Amazing Waterfall

I've gone both during the summer and fall. Both times of the year are awesome. Make sure you go to the lower part to get an even better view of the falls.

Moonbow

We went specifically to see a moonbow, WOW it was really cool! Went back the next day to just enjoy the park, good times

Niagara of the South

By srobby |

What a hidden gem in the hill country of Kentucky. This is quite a spectacular water falls billed as the Niagara of the South it certainly lived up to the Niagara of the north. The staff was friendly and the gift shop very nice. We didn't stay because it was cloudy for the Moonbow but what a special unique thing to see. Multiple great viewing points for the Falls.

Always beautiful!

Great fall getaway! Looking for the Moonbow! Rustic cottages are comfortable with all the necessities. Be sure to grab some firewood and starters if your cottage has a fireplace.
