Don't pas this up whlie in Paso

By Ken T |

We loved our visit to Daou Vineyards. Knowledgable staff and great wine and food. You can't beat the view either.
I had the best wine I've ever tasted - Patrimony

Excellent, beautiful winery

By Penny K |

This winery has a wonderful 360 view. There are numerous spots to sit outside. The wines are very nice. Recommendation: bring your pocketbook! Tastings are $40 and the wine is expensive. We went with some members so we were fortunate enough to enjoy with them. We bought a bottle of UNbound wine.

Beautiful view, but wines not memorable

By CA_wanderer60 |

This is a beautiful place in the coastal hills with an amazing view looking back towards Paso. But my husband and I were disappointed with 5 of the six wines we tasted. Only the 2018 Reserve Cab had an interesting flavor. All were smooth, but lacked any distinctive character. Maybe too young, as the other offerings were 2019 & 2020 vintages. But for the price, $46/person, I was expecting at least one or two pours with some character and depth. Maybe go up the mountain for lunch with friends and the view, but other wineries nearby offer much better wine tasting experiences for far less expense.

If you want a marvelous expience, Daou is the place to go.

By janiceburch |

This is a fabulous tasting room. It's on the higher end price-wise for tasting but the location, views, staff and of course the wine make it all worth it. This is one to add to the list of wineries to visit on a trip to Paso Robles.

Incredible views .

By Cruiser299453 |

Stunning views . We stopped by at the last minute , no time for tasting .
Looked around & were mesmerized by the scenery. A must see , it is breathtaking,

Beautiful! Both the wines and the views

By Oregontraveler477 |

We stopped here on a recommendation from a friend. So glad we did. The tasting's price were a bit of a 'sticker shock' but after tasting the wines I get it. We sampled 5 wines. All were fantastic. It was also an experience because the staff did not rush you through. Our server was knowledgeable about the wines, was pleasant and attentive. It was a most relaxing and enjoyable afternoon

Superb view and wines

By thpmm |

This vineyards is on their hill top compound and become one of my favourite of all time. Superb view of the mountain and vineyards. They have good wines and good food for you to enjoy up there. Reservation is required.

Breathtaking view but pricey and with attitude

By GlennaBLosAngeles |

There's no getting around the visual power of this place: gorgeous buildings, sensational patio area and a brilliant view. But the prices are sky high -- both wine and food. Let's just say you go to Daou for the view, not necessarily the vittles or the vintages. I had one crazy exchange with my lovely wait person: because I was the designated driver, I asked for iced tea with the $44 mezze plate we three were sharing. She said, "this is a winery." I said, "it would be nice to have some options for the dd besides water." But she did find a small bottle of iced tea in a fridge. Just a heads up if you're looking for something like this -- they don't usually serve it.

Don't miss going to DAOU

By Pamela W |

If you want to go to a winery in California, this is one you should not miss. You must make reservation. I went with a group and we had a wonderful time!! Make sure you take pictures under the DAOU Life is Beautiful. We were seated and the view are outstanding. Our sommelier was excellent in explaining the different wines. The whole experience was outstanding. We stayed there 2-3 hours.

STUNNING

By Putt7464 |

I can not possibly say enough good things about this winery. yes, it's a bit on the pricey side. but worth every red cent!!! I loved the view, service and especially the wines. We did a "private pairing" and it was the best experience I've ever had wine tasting. ( I've been to over 200 wineries around the world) .

Breathtaking Views!!

By CURTIS H |

On our trip to California we visited several wineries in the Coastal California region. None of them could match the beauty and quality of Daou. The weather was gorgeous so that helped, but there is something about sipping wine flights out on a patio that over looks a valley fully planted in grapes and olives. The food was great as well. All we had was a platter of meats, cheeses and fruits, but it went so well with our wine. This place is a must visit!

Fantastic setting with great wines and food pairing

By johnmaki |

The only better winery tasting area I have been to was Santorini, Greece at the top of an island. This was a second visit to Daou based on the first being great. We arrived at lunch time and opted for the food and wine pairing with pinot, blend, and cab with duck, scallop and lamb chop. We had an extra glass of white wine and had a taste of an alternative red. Splitting for 2 people was fine and the food was excellent with Lebanese character. Sitting out on the lawn on a nice day was perfect with a great view. I highly recommend the experience, but it is pricey. our total about $100. But considering lots of tastings are $30-50 each, I think this was pretty good for the quality.

Want a view?

By Lucy M |

We stayed about 2 hours, gorgeous view and nice, nice grounds. The tasting was $40.00 and the wine is $75.00 a bottle ++ so if you are not into spending some dough, don't bother to stop. I think you can buy wine by the glass, not sure.
We jumped in, sat back and enjoyed the environment. Wine was tasty and we will enjoy the memory!

Wine tasting

By Sandra Hiner |

It has beautiful views and atmosphere, but personally I think the wine is a little bit overrated for the price. If traveling out, be sure to have a back up plan, because it can be difficult to get into.

Breathing taking Views and Wine!

By James W |

We’ve loved their wine for awhile and when we finally had a chance to visit, we were not disappointed!! What can I say except spectacular views and grounds. They are still in the process of adding more on. Comparable to wineries in Napa and a lot closer to us in SoCal.

Must Visit

By Agnes |

Gorgeous view, good wine and great service. It’s a perfect way to spend the afternoon. The grounds and views are stunning. We were there on Sat and they were very busy but everyone was still very helpful and pleasant. Tasting is $40 each. No reservation needed if you are tasting at the bar. Reservation is needed if you want table service which I highly recommend. Must sit down to take in the view and enjoy the wines.

WOW!!!!

By Nancy A |

This is a must see! Absolutely stunning!!!! Tastings are expensive, so we purchased a bottle after they gladly let us taste a few wines. So many gorgeous seating areas on the expansive patio. We went on Thursday, which was perfect, as we heard it can be very crowded on weekends.

Breathtaking views and elegant property

By Elaine L |

We were impressed with the grounds of the winery. Many outdoor seating areas with breathtaking views. We enjoyed wine and a mixed platter to snack on. We could have spent the entire day lounging. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and provided generous pours. Definitely want to return!!!

Spectacular Views, Lovely Wines, Pricey!

By PaulCTripTip |

What a wonderful experience! Breathtaking views of the vineyards! Enjoyed the wine tasting ... but this is not a winery accessible to all people. It is very pricey! We were a mixed group and several people sat out the wine tasting and food due to the high cost. More of a special occasion outing!

Unbeatable View!

By TheHappyTruth |

The grounds of this winery are lovely...the roses and the view (it is perched on a hill) make it quite beautiful. They have a restaurant, although you really need to make a reservation as it gets quite busy.

Tasting

By Daisymiller |

In the days of Covid, one makes a reservation so that one has his own table which is socially distanced from others. I love the idea, and the tastings were generous and our server was attentive.
Daou is beautiful and the views are spectacular, so it’s worth a trip just to see the venue.

Spectacular property with an unbeatable view

By Knock_me_out_please |

We began our vacation in the Paso Robles area with a visit to DAOU Vineyards. We had the charcuterie and a wine tasting flight and sat out in the grounds admiring the spectacular view. It was early on a sunny October day and it wasn't hot yet. You could combine your visit with lunch, but we were eager to continue exploring. We ended up buying some wine and shipping it home - it's hard to resist!

Views all around

By KASGirl |

Impressive is the key word when describing Daou. A lovely wine tasting room nestled atop a hill offering incredible views. The wines are worth the visit. Add in the refined decor and views, and you have a pleasantly relaxing afternoon.

Amazing views and good food.

By lydia c |

We stop here in our way back to San Francisco while we were looking for lunch. And we will glad to do it. This winery has amazing views. A good thing to take in count you can order food if at least one person in your party do the tasting. The dishes are big and delicious. They had been working in have a exquisite decoration and ambiance.

The best Winery we visited in Paso

By SMKB |

This is a, if not the, top destination for a winery experience in Paso so probably doesn’t even need my review.
We had an excellent experience wine tasting and lunch. We were there for 2 hours, felt very relaxed and comfortable. Great location amazing panoramic views, great staff, large covered seating area on the patio + large outside space with lots of different seating and we moved around.
And of course the best wine we sampled on our trip.
We made a reservation same day through our hotel.
(Also the more expensive of the options but well worth it if you’re into it.)

Amazing views, but that's about it.

By Mary C |

I was so excited to go to DAOU Vineyards on my trip to Paso Robles. When my friend and I arrived, the setting was picturesque. The tasting room was beautiful and the outdoor space was stunning. But that is where it ended for us. When we approached the tasting bar to learn about their wines, we were glanced at and ignored by the female staff. One of the young men finally approached us. He didn't offer any information about the wines but he did allow us to taste a couple before purchasing a glass. He commented about my decision to purchase the zinfandel over the cabernet, assuming that my decision was based on price, not my preference of taste. I was offended. Overall, their $40 tasting fee is NOT worth it, and neither is the price for a glass, even if you prefer the zinfandel over the cabernet. I would not go back and I would not recommend DAOU to anyone.

Awesome location

By malibuirishmike |

Went for tasting in the busy holiday period so had to take the shuttle from the lower lot which really wasn’t a problem. Shared a tasting and a cheese plate. As other reviewers have noted, it’s not cheap but I do think you get what you pay for here. Excellent and knowledgeable service, including an extra pour, from Alejandro.

Birthday Celebration - with Family and Friends

By Pamela W |

My daughter wanted to take me to this winery for my birthday celebration. We were greeted by Rachel who poured us a glass of rose which was good. Our concierge was Amanda, she was WONDERFUL! She provided lots of historical information and explained the wines. We purchase a charcuterie board which went well with all our wines. Beautiful views of the Paso Robles area. Would definitely recommend you try it. Our group was 6 and we everyone was pleased. This place provides outstanding service. Don't miss it.

As good as it was a few years ago.

By mflickermd |

Driving up out of the PasobRobles heat was delightful. The scenery is lovely. But the views at the vineyard are spectacular.
Lunch was very good, but be aware that the portions are very large. The bread plate was yummy and we had the best hummus ever. And then the wines. There were diverse varieties served and we particularly enjoyed the Solomon Pinot. We highly recommend Daou for a wonderful experience.

An amazing experience!

By Lynda A |

We went to Daou to taste the Soul of the Lion line! It rivalled many Napa vineyards! The view was amazing. the atmosphere electric. the food pairing were yummy! the member of the staff were happy and helpful!! I am definitely going back!

Beautiful Place!

By Roberto Y. |

The place is espectacular and the views from the tasting area are formidable. The wines we tried were very good. Our server was very personable and amicable. The tasting area is really nice and great decor. The experience is not about getting to know the vineyard and their process. It is all about the tasting and the location of the tasting. This is a place that you should come if you are in Paso Robles. We visited Alta Colina before coming to DAOU. Both experiences were great and different. I wold also recommend that you experience Alta Colina.

Make this your first stop

By ThePinkCar |

From the bell tower to the vineyards, this place has class. And the view from on top of that mountain? Spectacular! But you came for the wine!
This region is known for its excellent wine soil and red wine. This vintner is at the top of their craft.
Make a reservation. Ask for a charcuterie for your group to pair with this wonderful wine. Yes, I joined their wine club.

Great View, Mediocre Wines, Nice grounds, Good place to chill.

By Alan S |

AS many others have stated, this may be the best views in the valley, and the tasting room is a great place to take a load off, but if you are in a hurry, don't waste your time.

The wines, in my opinion, were just "ok"... not horrible, nowhere near excellent, but quite enjoyable, especially if you are there near happy hour and have had a busy day. It's a great place to unwind before heading back for your evening festivities, whatever they may be.

Absolute treasure!

By Thao Tran-Chang |

Wow, with its spectacular views, knowledgeable and friendly staff, delicious dishes and exquisite wine tasting experience, I’d have to say this is a must do experience for visitors who enjoy the fiber things in life.

The entire experience was magical, special and romantic. Loved the story about the French Lebanese family and how the business evolved. Really enjoyed the open seating arrangements, strategically placed so anywhere you sat, the views were spectacular. The staff practiced mask wearing and hygiene safety guidelines. The venue is stunning with its gorgeous wrought iron gate, wrought iron doors and interior VIP room. It felt like walking into a vineyard palace with its interior extravagance and European architectural inspiration. There’s a small parking space but that was totally fine since the experience is so well worth it. Highly recommend!

The wine tasting experience was very special and well paced. They dishes were thoughtfully arranged both beautiful and delicious. We had the smoked ribeye salad and onyx mezze charcuterie.

Unbeatable View and Wine Experience

By totteranna |

Be sure to visit DAOU Vineyards for the gorgeous view from the patio. We made reservations for the Vintage Experience which provided us tastes of great red wine and a ride on ATV through the vineyard ( expect to spend up to 2 hours in this experience).

Great View.

By Gregory G |

This place has the best view of all, but at a Napa price. The wines are very good, but the $40 tasting fee and pricey wines are not within budget of most people. Think of the cost as admission to get a taste of someone else’s opulent lifestyle.

1th Anniversary Wine Tasting

By Russ M |

In all of the winery/vineyards we have had the pleasure to visit we have finally found our ultimate winery. Daou Winery sits on a hii top over looking the surrounding vineyards and country side. The facilities are top notch with many individuals sitting areas with the breathtaking views on all side of the hilltop. The service and knowledge of the servers is outstanding. They not only know the wines that are served in the tasting but know the history of the Daou Brothers and Family as it relates to their winemaking. We will definetly visit the Winery any time we are in the area.

Hidden Gem

By B3xx101 |

Love this place. The staff is so welcoming and attentive! The ambiance is perfect for anyone that wants or needs to get away!

Excellent Set Up for Wine Tasting

By MH_Golfer |

Daou has a really great set up for tasting. They will pair foods and have a great seating area both inside and out. The outside seats can be either in the sun or in the shade depending on your preference.

Our server gave us some pours that were not on the tasting schedule and spent a good amount of time with us.

As others have noted, it is expensive. The hilltop views are great and the wine is good. It might be a good idea to make an appointment. Those with an appointment get good parking; those without park at the bottom of the hill and take a shuttle to the top.

Beautiful experience

By Sherry H |

Loved not only the wines and wine service but the mountain top scenery was beyond beautiful . The wines were very good and we joined the club !! This is definitely a vineyard/ winery for your bucket list !!!

Beautiful Daou!

By Kim B |

We have been to Daou Vineyards MANY times, and we continue to come back for the beautiful grounds and scenery. The view here is unlike any other in Paso. We always have great service!

Do not miss

By Steve Petit |

We done multiple wine tastings from Napa to Oregon and this was top notch. Setting is outstanding, wines were super and the cheese board we ordered was first rate. Excellent service from our wine conductor. Do not miss this place on your next visit to the area.

Not just excellent wine - a great experience

By Irina711 |

We have spent half a day visiting DAOU vineyard. We shared a tasting , ordered a cheese and charcuterie plate and then bought a bottle of Chardonnay to sit on their lounge chairs , enjoying sun and wonderful view and fully relaxing.
Wines we tasted are all superb, especially their estate cab. Service is absolutely wonderful. Our hostess Camila was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Everything at the winery very well thought thru - landscape, chairs, blankets if you are cold, every detail. The cheese plate is very generous. There were 2 of us but it will be enough even for 4.
Wonderful experience , fully justifies high price.

Best part of Paso

By Stephanie |

I went to DAOU winery with a couple of people over the weekend, and it was nothing short of magical! Not only was the venue and view absolutely stunning, and the views are out of this world, but the service was easily one of the best we have had. Gabriel, was extremely knowledgable about the wines, the history of DAOU and went above and beyond to give us a tour of the vineyard. Needless to say I have been to Paso at least 10 times over the course of the year and this was the best experience I have ever had. Make reservations at least a couple weeks in advance as they seem to fill up pretty quickly. Thank you again for such an awesome time and making this feel like a unique tour just for us!

My favorite winery in Paso

By Stephanie C |

This is the best place to wine taste in Paso Robles. The views from the hill and the gorgeous setting can not be beat! We had a private romantic picnic lunch and wine tasting . The food was almost as good as Daou's amazing wine. We had a great server and the entire experience was PERFECT!

I will be back...wine tasting experience is pricey but totally worth it!

Amazing Paso Winery

By themrsdugan |

We were blown away by the 360 degree views and the whole drive up felt very VIP. My husband and I are avid wine tasters, have been to Napa several times, Tuscany, Malibu, Temecula, and this is up there with our favorite winery experiences that we have ever had. If you make a reservation, they seat you and bring your pours to your table. We also ordered a charcuterie plate that was actually the best we have ever had and we love us some charcuterie! The wines were delicious, but definitely a bit on the pricey side, which given the entire experience I felt were priced appropriately.

Couldn't Even Buy a Bottle

By Octavio Z |

Called the number on the website to ask about purchasing wine on site. Was given an appointment to come in on a Thursday at 3:30pm. Again, this is just to purchase some bottles of wine, not wine tasting or eating. Drove all the way from Pasadena to Paso Robles primarily to buy some wine at Daou, only to be denied entry because they didn’t have my name on the list. To their credit, a manager called me back and took full responsibility after I left her a voice mail complaining about the incident (hence the two stars), but by then we were on our way out and the damage was done. Frankly speaking, no wine in Paso Robles is so special that a customer should be denied entry just to purchase a bottle, especially when he was given an appointment to do so.

Pretentious and Snobby!

By Richard S |

DO NOT even turn in the winery drive way if you don't have a tasting appointment! We were just heading west after a wonderful tasting and purchase of zinfandel port at Wild Coyote. We had heard that Daou has a beautiful view from its hilltop tasting room, so we decided to drive up, just to see the place. We were met by a parking attendant about 100 yards from the tasting room, who let us know that we could not go up and park because of lack spaces there, but could park in a remote area and then be shuttled up to the site, if we wanted to just make a purchase. Or, option B, we could go up to the gate, but turn around before entering, just so we could see the view. We chose option B, but when we got to the gate, there was not enough room to turn around, so we went through the gate to find a place to turn around to go back down the hill. As soon as we entered, a staff member walked right up to our car and asked if we had a reservation. We said no, the attendant down the hill told us we could drive and turn around. She then rudely said, "yeah, the turn around is right back there, you almost did it" Wow, I don't think I have ever been treated so poorly at any venue. I'm sure our experience would have been at least tolerable, if we had made a reservation. It was a terrible experience overall.

Breathtaking surroundings and excellent Wine

By ellireza |

Loved the drive up to this gorgeous Winery.. The interior and the exterior settings are spectacular. Best to reserve tasting in advance to have a nice table to relax and enjoy but we just sat at the bar and walked around the outside with our glasses. Wine is delicious and very impressive. May be a bit pricey but it sure is worth the experience. Highly recommend it!

Amazing Spectacular Views!

By Sooz C |

This is the highest vineyard with a view to"live for!" We had been to 2 Daou wine dinners and the host gave us his card and said to call if we wanted to come up for a special wine tasting treat. We sat outside and had our own personal wine tasting. Plus they have a great food menu. It was just a lovely experience. We will be back!

Gorgeous views, pricey tasting

By PRIYA |

Hands down the prettiest grounds in paso! Perched on a hilltop you get the best view while sipping some fun wine and enjoying great food.
They were packed on a Saturday afternoon, reservations highly recommended to get good spot. We made reservations and got seated in the comfy couches for a nice sit down tasting.
Fee is $40 (on the pricier side compared to other paso wineries) waived with 3 bottle purchase. Includes 5 wines, one white and 4 reds. Our server was great and she was kind to let us try an extra white.
The parking lot is small so we were directed to park into a remote parking area where a “party bus” would take us to the tasting room. We didn’t even wait 10 seconds and a fancy Mercedes Limousine picked us up! How very cool!
I have enjoyed the $20 Daou Cabernet that you can buy at Costco and $16 Chardonnay at Smith’s, however the wines on the tasting menu were pretty pricy. We didn’t really enjoy them as much. Chardonnay and Pinot noir were decent but definitely not worth the price tag that came with it.
We ordered Mezze plate that included a variety of Mediterranean dips and pita. It was delicious but again pricy for $42
They are kid friendly:)
Overall it was a great experience!

Beautiful ambiance!!

By Wine Parties by Design LLC |

DAOU’s ambiance is one of the best and the reason that visitors should visit this venue. It overlooks the valley high enough up that you feel that you are in an airplane. Their marketing strategy is interesting: you can only purchase the wines that you taste at the winery or online DTC. The grounds and open-air tasting room were very impressive. The only concerns were that our group was big enough (12) so that to keep the group together for the tasting, it would have cost an extra $240. The service was average since the intervals between tastings were too long. It’s a county fair environment and we would have preferred a private tasting. Next time….

This is so popular on a Sunday afternoon....

By James Weaver |

They have 2 shuttles taking you from a lower parking area to the mountain top tasting room. Their newer facility is extraordinary, beautiful, and large enough for hundreds. The outdoor seating offers views, the patio offers food. The $40.00 tasting fee rivals Napa. The wines, not so sure. Very good, but their members it seems love them. Several at $100.00 per bottle, prices me out of their upper end. I wish them well and hope the signs along the 101 near Cambria and Hearst Castle Daou Ocean, do not mean a mega winery coming soon to your neighborhood.

Great views - Very expensive tasting - better options elsewhere

By BeachMax |

This used to be one of our favorite places to visit given the panoramic views of the mountains and decent wines, however, things have changed. With a $40 tasting fee (waived with purchase of 3 bottles etc.) it's really not worth it anymore given dozens of other options in the area. I usually buy 4 -6 bottles when visiting a winery, but only if I like what they are serving; here I have to pay up front and roll the dice to see if they have decent wines for sale that day. I still buy Daou - but for $20 a bottle at Trader Joe's instead of $40 for the view and a few sips.

The views and building are impressive - but we've moved on to better options.

Paradise

By rwheeler |

Third year in a row going to Paso Robles and we finally made it to DAOU. So worth the wait! Billie was our sever that led us through our tasting and she was fantastic! So knowledgeable and personable.

So far DAOU is my favorite winery for the view, ambiance, wine and food. It checks all the boxes.

Fantastic

By Jackinbama |

The best wine tasting views I have ever seen. We really enjoyed our tasting at Daou. The wines were good and we shared a huge tray of assorted goodies ($50). Strongly recommend that you include Daou in you plans for Paso Robles.

Bellissimo

By Cynthia-LAX |

My overall opinion outstanding! Not to be missed and certainly worthy of an afternoon. Lovely property.

Quite possibly the most spectacular views of wine country

By SportsReporter |

We had a lucky day coming here in April 2018 (not 2019). Apparently the Daou brothers were in transit because all of a sudden two Bentleys (or Rolls) drove up the steep driveway entrance and I was originally told that they were here. Never met them but the staff was on high alert.

So do yourself a favor and walk to the back patio. Try not to faint. The views go on and on for tens of miles. It's surreal.

The server was trying to get me to try some of their wines that I had already tasted so she was frustrated. I kept telling her that I had already tried this or that. She was intent on giving me something I hadn't tried so she brought out the big gun, their Estate Soul of a Lion. Poured me a nice pour at NO CHARGE. Now since that was a nice treat, I offered to pay the $65 tasting fee (after I found out how much it should been charged to me I felt badly) but she insisted it was on the house.

I left her a big tip and had to admit, that was one of the nicest Cab blends I have tasted in quite some time.

Prepare to spend money here--the pairings are very, very nice. $200 per is totally achievable. This is one of the closest experiences to a Napa Valley experience as you can get in Paso Robles. Guests speak in hushed tones and they dressed to impress. Note: I thought I saw Georges and Daniel Daou but the staff it insisted it was not them. Pretty sure if it was them they would deny it....so we all had a big laugh over it.

Really nice winery and exquisite views and service!

Stunning Views

By Lisa V |

This place is just lovely. We had a reservation for a tasting and also ordered lunch. Everything from the staff, the wines, the food, the view was just surreal.

Ridiculous service and pours

By euro0513 |

We were there on 11/22. We had 1 individual tasting. My wife does not drink so asked if they can get her warm water with a slice of lime. Response - we do not serve warm water!!! Shocking as they have a full restaurant with an overpriced menu.
Pours - the guy was literally pouring wine in a glass that was difficult to make out if there was wine in the glass! Right next to our table there were generous pours.
Great wines but the worst experience at a winery for us.

Magical visit

By Lizzy |

We have been going to Paso Robles for over 14 years & this is our first time at Daou. The most beautiful winery we have EVER been to. The scenery was incredible. Granted it was freezing out at 10 AM and they did their best to keep us warm. Fireplace and heat lamp. Dress warm, it's at the top of the hill.

I had preordered a Magnum of Cuvee Lizzy online, which they had waiting for me & ready to go. Our server was lovely & attentive! The pours were traditional tasting pours. Which was good because this was our first of 3 wineries for that day.

Left with $300 worth of wine between 2 couples. Will definitely go back.

Great Wine Great Family Story

By Steven C |

This place is proof that the American Dream can come true for anyone. The family story behind the Vineyard is amazing and inspiring. Fostered by their father's love of wine the sons started their vineyard after cashing in on a wildly successful tech start up. The vision and the pursuit of excellence is illustrated in their delicious wine. We focused on the Cabs and did the retrospective tasting which was worth the money just to get exposed to the more rare bottles. The Vineyard tour was cut short by the rainy conditions but the staff could not have been any nicer. Daou is now one of my go to wines.

Insane new policy, but Oscar Saves the Day!

By ataraxis |

This review is for our March 2019 visit (yes a bit late). We visited during Zinfandel weekend. We were quite shocked by the new policy of not being able to purchase wines by the glass. To be fair, you can still purchase by the glass if you are a member of their wine club, so this policy has nothing to do with waste and everything to do with how popular and busy Daou has become. We felt that this put the tasting room staff in a VERY awkward position having to tell guests that they can only buy bottles of wine. I have never heard of or visited a winery anywhere that had a policy like this. Also the iconic fountain was moved over to the members only area of the grounds and was not running. Why? Another disappointment was they no longer will be selling their Grenache Blanc (the ultimate spicy food wine).

So why did I still give a "Very good" rating? We made a reservation a few weeks before and they even let us move to a bigger table with a better view after we arrived. We let our wine attendant know how we felt about the new "by the glass" policy. She was very understanding. We were fine with ordering bottles of wine, and were planning to anyway, because there were four of us. The issue is if one of us wanted to try something on our own, we couldn't. We have already had tastings several times in the past, so were were not interested, especially at the $40 price point which is one of the highest in Paso.

What saved the day was the tasting room manager, Oscar. He apologized for the new policy and we talked with him for a while. I am not going to tell you what he did for us, because quite frankly I don't want anyone to expect the same accommodations he was willing to give us. We declined and what he did next, we are forever grateful for. Again, I am not going to give details, but a good attitude and a love for wine will go a long way, even in the face of a ridiculous policy. We will return again in 2020, during Zinfandel weekend, and look forward to the amazing white wine (yes white) and the views. Here's to hoping Daniel and Georges will come to their senses and abolish this crazy policy. There has to be a better way to accomplish what they intending.

P.S. Chemin de fleurs is still one of my all time favorite white wines.

Wine tasting and Lunch

By Bickman50 |

While vacationing in Avila Beach, we always travel to Pas Robles. Wine Country the best in the Country. This was our first visit to Dani Winery and we were impressed. When we arrived for our 1130am lunch, we were escorted to the covered patio with a nice table next to the outdoor fireplace. The slight breeze and coolness of the time made this a pleasant location where we also had a beautiful view of the wine country. Please note that this place is expensive as those in Napa, with a $40 tasting fee. However, the wines are very good to excellent with some having a retail price of over $100 per bottle. The lunch menu although limited had great choices. For an appetizer we had bacon wrapped stuffed dates that were delicious. I highly recommend them. I chose the filet minion which was also very good and perfectly cooked at medium rare. It was served with roasted Brussel sprouts. Good selection! My wife and our friend ordered the Short Rib entrée which was served on a bed of polenta also with Brussel sprouts. They both really enjoyed their meal as well, so I feel safe in recommending it as well. Enjoy, the view and wine tasting rooms also.

Fabulous views, wines and food!

By Curt S |

I knew of Daou wines before our visit but I had no idea how beautiful the site and views would be! On top of the world with nearly 360 degree views of the Paso area. Our immersion experience included a vineyard tour and barrel tastings before our lunch and the primary Patrimony tastings. Amazing wine with amazing food - especially the steak au poivre. Our host, Cooper, was super knowledgeable and down to earth, really easy to talk to and very helpful. My wife doesn’t really like reds so he went out of his way to find a rose and a white option for her. Highly recommended!

Great Views Coupled With Excellent Wine

By winetravelers2014 |

We booked their " wine and food pairing" and were not disappointed. We had our excellent experience out on their terrace which provided great views of the valley. Our hostess was very pleasant and informative about the wines being served.....all excellent . I think our favorite reds were either the Unbound or the Estate Cab. Food pairings went well wih each wine.Overall great experience.
An interesting side highlight------that evening at dinner we had ordered a bottle of Daou wine.....when the bill arrived our waiter informed us the couple at an adjacent table had paid for our Daou wine.......a pleasant surprise, it was Daniel Daou with his fiancee. We had a nice brief chat about our earlier experience that day

Wine with a view

By Hockeydad900 |

Hadn't heard of Daou wineries but glad we came. The location is spectacular - up on top of the highest peak in the area with commanding views for miles. The wine is excellent and covers a broad range of varietals. There is a food menu (Mediterranean focus) if you want lunch or a snack. Be sure to make reservations - it is very popular.

Amazing, gorgeous, and fantastic

By Billy R |

This was my second time visiting in just a few months. I absolutely love Daou because it's one of the most beautiful wineries anywhere. The outdoor space is breathtaking, the service is warm and friendly, and the food is top-notch. Tasting Daou's broad range of delicious wines is so enjoyable while snacking on one of their exceptional mezze plates as you drink in the forever views. This is definitely on the higher end of Paso wine tasting experiences and well worth whatever detour is required to get there. Friendly and knowledgeable staff make the experience truly memorable.

Beautiful Grounds at a price

By Leslie D |

Wine tasting was quite expensive. The grounds were lovely and the food was OK. Our wine steward (?) was not very informative. If we didn't ask him any questions, we didn't get any information. Wine tasting should be accompanied by knowledge about the wine. I am not a wine drinker and would have appreciated learning more about the wine.

First Visit as a Member-INCREDIBLE location

By Getbackjojo |

We joined the wine club and knew this was a must on our list during our long weekend visit.

The four of us had a res for a tasting and we needed to pick up our wine.

The Views and overall spot is AMAZING. breathtaking.

A bit disappointed that there was not ONE bottle of Sauvignon Blanc anywhere for us to purchase and enjoy. seemed odd. It took 30 minutes for them to find one bottle of chardonnay and once we had decided to just not have it, somebody showed up with a bottle. We still refused it. This seemed really weird. Half of our party enjoyed a lovely tasting and we ordered their beautiful charcuterie plate.

The red we tasted were all quite good as expected and we did purchase several bottles.

The winery was packed and it was a beautiful day. Somehow we ended up in the back far from everything-while most people were out in the front enjoying the view. it wasn't awful and I did not ask if we could move but I felt as though we were placed at the bad kids table. I probably should have inquired and next time we go back I will be sure to ask for exterior seating with a view.

Expensive but a must see

By RknRon |

Get a driver and get here. The landscape is amazing and the staff is all about service. It isn't cheap, but it is a must see when here.

Quick visit

By Halle H |

Wish we could of done lunch here...vistas are amazing. We walked the grounds and checked out views. Covid 19 procedure in place. Please make s reservation! Definitely a must visit!

Very disappointed...over-priced for sure

By Tom H |

My wife and I first visited three months ago. We were turned away even before we got to the tasting room. We were told they were full of large groups (limos, etc). That was our destination for the day, so disappointing. So we returned 3 days ago. In short, The Daou experience seems to be trying to turn Paso Robles into the next Napa Valley. In my opinion, please don't. Wonderful view, exorbitantly extravagant tasting room. Tasting was $40 for 5 tastes, and small ones at that. You can buy a glass for around $17. So for 3 of us tasting, $120. When you enter, you are immediately asked if you have a reservation..hmmm. You are then escorted to a separate seating table (no standing at a tasting bar - that is reserved for the not-so-busy staff to practice drying wine glasses), where a server comes and goes, bringing you your next taste. The reds are solid, not out of this world for the high prices. I got the feeling they need to charge so much to pay for the facility and view, and perhaps to encourage a certain clientele. Way too many fine choices of wineries that offer a much warmer and engaging experience for much less.

Phenomenal views - awesome wines - great service

By lazytravelerTacoma22 |

We were here for the first time and were a bit skeptical that it would be pretentious and stuffy. We were very pleasantly surprised at how personable everyone was from the hostess to our server. The grounds and views were absolutely spectacular and we were encouraged to walk around and experience all of it, which we did. The wines were fantastic and they offered a nice menu of snack options - we ordered the baba ganoush which was a great pairing for our tasting. We really enjoyed our experience here and would definitely go again. The whole service was very relaxing.

Scenery is unbelievable!

By Blackchow |

If this is within your price range, stop by! Its $40 a tasting. The hummus and pita was delicious. The shared plates looked delicious but we were too full to try it. If the tasting is out of your price range, just come for the view!

Daou Winery

By Traveler |

The best!!! The wine is perfection. The service was impeccable. The location was heaven on a hill. We sat at the table for 4 hours. Wine tasting, charcuterie tray and a blanket. It was a perfect day!

Taste and relax!

By Karen F |

We arrived at Daou about 11:30am thinking we would walk around before doing any early morning tastings. BUT, as we walked in the hostess greeted us and seated us at a table. This winery is more about visiting the outdoor views and comfortable seating areas. We were amazed at the beautiful scenery of rolling hills, vineyard areas, and splendid trees. We did a tasting and then had a glass of our favorite. Of course this was over a few hours and they were very gracious about staying long as we liked and no pressure to buy. The wine is a little on the pricey side.

Most Beautiful, But....

By Pam L |

DAOU Vineyards was THE most beautiful Vineyard we visited while on our 32 day tour of California. The landscape is top- notch and the views (and photo ops!) are stunning. Unfortunately, our scheduled wine tasting was not as enjoyable an experience as others on our itinerary. I appreciate when there is a bit of food served with our wines.... not a large amount by any means.... but just something to pair with the wines that complement each other. Also, I feel the person leading the tasting was not as well educated on the wines as others we have experienced. The tasting went very quickly and there wasn't much effort to give details about DAOU and it's wines. A bit of improvement could highly enhance wine tastings in this spectacular setting

Nice view, good but not special wine, a bit disappointing.

By Glenn W |

Daou was on our list of wineries to visit on a recent trip. We had heard many nice things about their wines. Tasting is expensive for what you get---1.5 oz pours that seemed like 1 oz. of 5 wines--for 45$. The wines are good and most seem to have good promise, but all we tasted were young and would require a few years of bottle age to develop. Accordingly, with the small pours, not easy to decide on buying 3 bottles of up to 125$/bottle wine. No reserve wines were available for tasting, even for additional charges. The server was knowledgeable but not experienced and her answers to questions were kind but formulaic. Nice view and grounds, and the overall feel of the place is very good. Overall not nearly as special as I might have expected, especially given the price. Of 5 visited wineries over three days this was 3rd best. Much better value exists in Paso.

By Ann B |

The views! Holy cow!!! The attentiveness of the staff and the beautiful wines and light bites!! This is a must! We spent 3 wonderful hours soaking up the panoramic view and enjoying the afternoon!

Very disappointing.

By John123456_11 |

In our week vacation visiting different wineries this was the best view and the worse tasting. Every other winery had very individualized tasting, whereas Daou server was more like a restaurant server who checked in on you periodically. The tasting was $50/each .. Napa prices and ours lasted just 45 minutes. The views are tremendous, if you get a front row view. We were sat almost inside. The furthest back of anyone. Just REALLY disappointing. Probably will no longer buy Daou wines as it will remind me of the poor experience.

rather expensive, but worth it

By LMOverby |

At $45, this is one of the most expensive tastings in Paso Robles, but I found it worth it. Daou sits on a hilltop with a stunning view and plenty of outdoor seating. I had the bacon-rolled stuffed dates with my tasting, and they were decadently good. My server took good care of me, offered me two additional off list pours (one on arrival, one at the end), was generous with the pours, and provided good, detailed information about the vintages and the wines. I was particularly impressed by the Chardonnay, the Zin, and the "Soul of a Lion" ... and ordered a mixed case sent home. The pace here is more relaxed than at other places, so allot at least an hour for the tasting and soaking in the view.

Horrible servers/people

By Chuen Chie C |

Beautiful winery with amazing views. Sadly the service is terrible, worst I have ever encountered. My friend and I decided to stop by and didn’t have a reservation. The server made us feel so unwelcome. We sat by one of the empty couches and then he told us we needed to move because those were special reserved, he also told us we had to buy a bottle since we were walking around the grounds without a reservation. I was ok with that or an tasting and ended up buying a $96 bottle of wine. Later I checked its price online and it’s available for $45-50. What a rip-off. It’s been awhile since I visited but the experience left such a bad memory that I have a negative response every time I see anything related to Daou.

The BEST!!

By HamManYorbaLinda |

If you don't go to any other winery while in Paso, Daou is a must! Fantastic grounds, wonderful wines and extremely guest oriented! Do not miss this trip!

What a memorable beautiful visit and what a nice waiter we had. Best wine, best views, best weather.

By noemir493 |

One of the best wineries in Paso Robles. I haven’t been to all. Had such great late lunch, with a variety of dips and healthy Greek middle eastern options. Presented and served to perfection. Looking over the valley, clear blue skies, clean air. Loved it.

What a View with a glass of Wine

By Ostrichdoc |

Not only is Daou retail wine excellent but the wines they serve for sale at a tasting are exquisite. I am no wine connoisseur but I know finely crafted wines, especially their reds. It is worth a trip for the mountaintop views and gardens at their tasting room and for the chance to buy wines you will never get a chance to purchase elsewhere.

Clearly a Favorite in Paso!

By Bonnie J |

We have been enjoying Daou since they opened. We manage to return every couple of years and each year we are amazed at their success and growth and this year was certainly a stunner! It's Disneyland for adults. Love the grounds and all the wonderful areas they have created for visitors to lounge and enjoy their brilliant wines. We had lunch in the garden patio and were treated to perfect weather and delightful staff who went out of their way to accommodate our needs and desires. Despite the fact that this winery is highly attended you really don't care. It's simply wonderful Their wines are TOP FLIGHT and among of favorite in the world. Have plenty of time when you go, make a reservation and if the weather is good sit outside. We're members so we enjoy the added treat of eating on the wine club terrace. Worth the teriff!

Beautiful to see..........wine, not so much!!!

By Dina J |

This vineyard has SPECTACULAR views!! GORGEOUS. We went up to have a glass of a specific wine and they quit making it. Disappointment. Sampled other wines and I was not all that impressed. I'm no wine snob, but I do love a good wine. You should go for yourself. You may like the wines!! Parking can be an issue, but they have a shuttle service to take you to/from parking.

Pleasant time at Daou Winery

By Dina Z |

It was an amazing experience the views spectacular and our. host Reubin was so hospitable courteous and Daou history knowledgeable will diffidently come back again and recommend it to our friends

First class tasting experience.

By VanillaAce |

Daou has the highest located winery in Paso Robles and the vistas are incredible. Th wine tasting experience is first class. Tasting room and outside seating area provide for a relaxing tasting experience. Our server was very informative and attentive during our tastings. The food menu is extensive and the pizza was very good. A must visit if you want an upscale wine tasting.

Some very solid wines, a bit too snotty.

By Matt G |

I had been coming here since prior to their ascension in the Central California wine scene. The first two times I had visited, the people were so hospitable and welcoming. On my most recent visit everything had changed for the worse. The lady at the front door was awful and entirely arrogant. We had brought a small bag of snacks to have with the wine, which was never an issue, and she made us leave it outside the winery. We had two 40 year old birthdays, among a group of six, and we were there to have a great time, buy some wine, and enjoy ourselves just to have the service put a huge black cloud over the entire experience.

I refuse to spend a dollar on a company that doesn't treat their customers with deserved kindness, so unfortunately I'm out on Daou going forward. It's really too bad too, because I enjoy their wine, but there are a lot of other great wineries that treat people far better. $40 tasting fees in Paso are ridiculous for what you get.

Amazing, panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

By Stay09788406725 |

My sister and I went there for an afternoon of wine tasting. The beautiful facility is located at the top of the mountain road, with amazing, panoramic views of the vineyards and rolling hills below. The service was good and the staff was friendly. The wines we tasted were excellent, although expensive. However, the experience and the wonderful views made it worthful. We were also lucky because the weather was beautiful!

Overzealous

By FunPasoMom |

I've been to DAOU three times in the last six months. The winery has a gorgeous view however lacks customer service. Notes from my last visit when my friend and I visited a couple weeks ago.... it wasn't necessarily what the host said, it was how he said that the grassy area was "off limits" to tastings. But then offered the seats if we order glasses or bottle of wine. Luckily for us we already planned to have a bottle and cheese platter. About 10 minutes our server came and took our order. Then she returned with an opened bottle of wine, which is faux pas. A few minutes after she delivered our cheese platter but was never seen again. After an hour we were done. We collected our empty bottle, glasses & platter and went inside only to be welcomed by six employees. We asked to have the cheese boxed up and asked for our check. One of the employees informed us that our server had left and would happily accept a tip on her behalf. Considering that minimally $50-$75 will be spent on a visit, DAOU should improve the customer experience.

A Must Visit in Paso Robles!

By Courtney |

Book early! We loved this visit in Paso Robles. The views were unmatched. It felt upscale, and the wines were great. Our host was informed and helpful. This stop was a major highlight of our trip.

Beautiful views with yummy wine and food

By Julia H |

Beautiful vineyard tasting even though was slightly expensive. The venue is unbelievable atop the mountain with cute covered couch seating areas. Educator was super nice though. And the salad and cheese board we got were delicious in addition to the delicious wine. Totally suggest going here!

Best view in Paso Robles wine tasting.

By Michael A |

Beautiful! Stunning tasting room with an amazing view of the vineyards and valley beyond. Relaxing and secluded, a wonderful place to finish a day of wine tasting. The tasting menu is more expensive than many of the other local stops but offers great wines and vintages, also the tasting fee is waived when you purchase 3 or more bottles. Today we opted for a chilled bottle of Rosè on the patio. The wine was crisp, not too dry, not too sweet, just right for a hot summer day.

A Little Bit of Heaven on Earth

By Pazful |

The ambiance is breathtaking! Best Charcuterie ever! Wines are very solid but not extraordinary. If you visit Paso Robles it is well worth the journey "up the hill" to Daou. Staff were fantastic by being helpful and informative without being intrusive.

Beaucholic

By Foggirl |

This vineyard has a view like no other and treats every guest like an ambassador. We couldn’t get over the view that goes on for miles, and the varietals that we tasted here were exceptional. We could have stayed for hours because it was so relaxing in the warm sun on a cold day. Even though there were so many people there, everyone was carefully social distanced because the property could handle it and everyone was so spread out. Lovely experience, and fabulous wines even in a pandemic.

The hype is not worth it

By TreborsTravels |

This winery is for out of towners. Ridiculously expensive ($40 for a tasting is for Temecula and Napa folks). The wine is average. But I will say they have some of the best views in Paso. However I go to wineries for the wine.

5 star views and tasting

By tracey k |

Location is hands down gorgeous. Generous seating areas positioned to be comfortable and soak it all in
Service gracious and knowledgeable. Wines premium and well made. Food available. Reservation recommended.

Have gotten way too greedy! No longer group friendly!

By smiller_6 |

Used to be one of our favorite spots. They have just gotten extremely too greedy...even to their wine club members! So sadly disappointed!!

Do GO!

By CaPalm |

Gorgeous setting in which they feature imaginative foods and terrific wines. (When did YOU ever have a bad glass of DAOU?) Typically need to make reservations for lunch, especially on a nice day. Worth it---in the extreme. A great way to break up a day of wine tasing and Club pick-ups.

California trip

By Ed D |

This is one of our top wines. The scenery is wonderful. Their wines are exceptional in reds and whites. They have a very good young female wine educator that did a terrific job telling us about the wine.

Indulge!

By Corina37 |

This was the highlight of our tasting trip. It was the first warm day of spring and we had to beg to be moved to the shade, lucky for us a table had opened up. I would request shade when you make your reservation if it will be a warm day. The views are amazing and there was a great vibe. The wine...AMAZING! Our waitress was adorable and sweet. We shared a cheese platter with our tasting. My only complaint is the TINY bathroom. There was a line for the ladies room for the duration of our 2 hour visit.

California's Best Aren't All in Napa!

By Soulcalsurfer |

Spent a few days in the area and this was our 1st tasting stop. We're fortunate enough to be able to show up with no reservation on a weekday. Parking was no problem, we walked right in and were warmly greeted at the wine bar. It was a lovely fall morning, so we elected to sit outside. The view and grounds are incredible. Service was attentive, knowledgable and well timed. We ordered a tasting to share and the cheese plate. We eventually ordered a couple glasses of the Zin and to go with the outstanding cheese platter. We spent a couple hours tasting, having a few bites and walking the grounds. I loved that we had to actually ask for the wine club info. All in all a really great experience. We walked out with a few bottles of Zin and strong inclination to join the wine club at some point. If you're in the area, I strongly suggest giving this a try. If you're on a weekend, make a reservation; otherwise, just drop on by.

Stunning View & Quality Wine

By Jared F |

Stunning Views! Could spend the whole day here taking in the fresh air, looking at the rolling hills and enjoying great wine! Host was extremely nice, I walked in as party of one, she got me seated at the bar quite quickly. (definitely recommend a reservation, but they accept walk-ins). Jolene was my server she was amazing and so sweet! I enjoyed their tasting flight which was $50… my opinion well worth it for the quality and the views alone! So many spots to relax and enjoy food and wine, great spot for a date or a day with friends! Favorite wine of the day was 2020 Patrimony cabernet & the Reserve Rose!

Best views in Paso

By BradGBurg |

Only one reason I gave this four stars. It’s very crowded and commercialized. It’s a huge place. I like wineries that maybe have 6-10 people during a visit. This had 150. The views are amazing. The wine is great The food at the restaurant was very good. If I were to pick a spot to live and could build my own house, I could copy the setting at Daou. But just way too crowded.

Best views and wines in Paso Robles

This is our favorite location in Paso Robles and serves amazing wines, especially their Cabernets. Their food options are also exquisite. You can easily spend a few hours enjoying the wine, food and views.

Stunning views good wine

By Riley B |

This a higher end winery in Paso, but it is worth the drive and price. The ridge is lined with Adirondack chairs looking down on the vineyards and valley. We stayed through the sunset and it was about as perfect as an afternoon can get. Lots of wine to choose from as well.

Enjoy Smooth. Complex Wines in a Beautiful Setting

By Cerritos_Dave |

Daou is located high on a mountain with beautiful views of the vineyards, and hawks flying overhead. There are seating options inside and out. We were fairly isolated at our outside table--and it was a lovely sunny, breezy day. The tasting fee was not inexpensive ($45 each)--and only waived with the purchase of 3 bottles.
Our "wine educator," Paul, was well-informed, friendly and helpful; he introduced each pour, answered any questions, and then left us to savor the moment. We tried 2 pinots--each was distinctive--the first was light and fruity (New Zealand-like) and the other was more earthy. The Unbound was spicy and not to our taste, though it might have done well with BBQ food. We particularly enjoyed the Eye of the Hawk, a cab blended with petit verdot--very smooth and well-balanced. The last cab, a reserve, was nice for being so young; it would probably improve with age.
We decided to buy 3 bottles of the Eye of the Hawk.

Beautiful Views!

By 195508Anonymous |

We visited Daou for wine tasting. The view is amazing, although we were disappointed to be placed at a large table on the porch with probably the least good view. The wines were tasty and the lamb/pork grape leaves were a nice snack to accompany the wines. There is a bus that takes visitors to an overflow parking lot. All in all a good experience.

Overpriced but nice location

By Daniel |

Location/ambience: 5
Service: 4
Wine: 3
Value: 1

Going to DAOU is about the tasting experience. The view, the nice cabanas, the attentive service. They are really pushing the “wine as a luxury good” idea. You’re paying for the DAOU brand and the fancy tasting room. The wine itself isn’t worth a $50 tasting. No way. One of the wines on the list is a $20 quaffer you can get at Ralph’s. There’s a $100 Chardonnay on the list, but in terms of quality it’s more like a $50 Chard. For $100 you can get a top growth French Chardonnay, and the DAOU chard definitely does not compare. The bottles here are WAY overpriced and if you’re buying them you’re just being up-sold a high profit product for their business.

That being said, the place itself is lovely. We were given a great cabana with an awesome view. There’s plenty of photo opportunities around. Can you get a better view in Paso Robles? Probably not.

The service was attentive and the server was chatty and friendly. There were a couple of things that irked me though. I don’t know if they do this all the time but they were rushing everyone out of their table once they brought the check by. Along with our check the waiter told us the next reservation was coming soon, so we should get moving. It felt like “we got all the money we’re going to get out of you, so leave now!” The second issue: at a lot of other wineries the 3-bottles to waive a tasting rule is negotiable. You can often get away with 2 bottles to waive a tasting or even one in rare cases. But I tried negotiating with our waiter and he wasn’t having it at all. They are strict with the 3 bottle rule. So I walked away with no bottles instead of 1 or 2. Is that good business? Well, I’m definitely not coming back here.

In summary, DAOU is probably something you should experience once in your life but isn’t worth more than one visit. There are better hilltop winery experiences nearby (Presqu’ile is top notch, check it out), and there are plenty of better wines in Paso Robles (Booker and Denner are my favorites).

Gabriel was a great host!

Love the wine (bought a flavorful Chard), extensive views & sophisticated ambience! Would return when the weather would allow us to taste outside! Gabriel spent a lot of time with us & provided lots of helpful wine knowledge & history.

Great experience

We went for a tasting at Daou and it was phenomenal. Best view in town! The level of service and the quality of the wines have greatly improved. Count me in as a fan and customer.

Breathtaking Views!

By Brandywine39 |

This place is just completely gorgeous inside, outside & the views are wow, just incredible! Every single wine we tried we really liked! Needless to say, we left with a few bottles. Our wine educator was Julian from Argentina. He was Carly new, but you couldn’t tell. He very friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. It was a perfect start to our wine tasting day. Make sure to book a reservation online for your tastings. And in case you want to stay overnight nearby, we stayed at the Wild Coyote B&B (which is also a winery) located like 5 mins away from DAOU. Highly recommend!

Great view but $40 tasting

By poodlepoodle |

Views are amazing but tastings are $40 and a mezzo veggie platter is $42Wines are good but way over priced. Just go to the top and view but don’t I because they seat you like a restaurant and you cannot escape. If money is no problem this place is a good as it can get in the area.

Best View Anywhere

By Val D |

We arrived at Daou mid-morning on a Tuesday and they were jam packed. I've never seen such breathtaking scenery. The view alone is worth the stop here. The wines are pricier than many of the other vineyards in the area...clearly there's an enormous amount of property and winery to maintain. The wines are very good...a few stand-outs. 2019 Unbound -- a blend of Petite Sirah, Tannat and Tempranillo is delicious. Also the 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Pricy at $95. They have a completely different set of wines they sell to retail with much smaller price points. Go for the view.

Another excellent winery in a privileged location

By Gabriel H |

Daou's wines are well known, and clearly among the best in the region. The claim to fame is outstanding Cabernet. The winery is located on top of a hill and thus overlooks several smaller hills and valleys. The views are spectacular. The gardens are also beautiful and the organization of wine tasting is quite remarkable. The flights of wine, with or without accompanying snacks are delightful, while you enjoy the views, the gentle breeze, and hopefully, your company.

Wine with a view.

My BF and I visited the DAOU Vineyards on our way back home on Sunday after a great weekend stay at Paso Robles. DAOU was located on top of the hill and the view was spectacular—it was a pleasant discovery and we intend to return in the near future for sure! Sitting on their patio with a glass wine—time really stand still for the moment...

Don’t miss out on this winery

By Flowerpowerfromtn |

Shuttled quickly to the top by a courteous driver and luxurious van ride, our party of six was amazed at the breathtaking views from the winery and tasting area. The charcuterie selections were perfect and the wine was amazing. Our server was Bobbie - knowledgeable, funny, quick, friendly! Our experience here was top - notch.

Members from Before Tasting Room Opened

By whocareswhoiam |

We have been members since the early days, before the tasting room was even built. The Daou wines are exceptional. The vineyard offers spectacular 360 views and the tasting room is an incredible experience, especially for wine club members. Furnishings are comfortable. Food pairings are very good for sharing as you enjoy the tastings. Staff is amazing, especially today we enjoyed our time with Alejandro. Honestly, this is our favorite wine and winery in Paso Robles. Our favorite wines here: Reserve Chardonnay, AUX, Lizzys Cuvee, Estate Cabernet and Soul of the Lion. The new Clone 4 is a lovely blend and about as smooth as a wine can be. The Daou Family treats members like royalty. Beautifully decorated winery with exceptional wines, its an experience. For us, it is a relaxing 2.5 hours and well worth the easy drive up from VC.

THE BEST VIEW AND WONDERFUL WINES

By GFFoodWineLover |

We had a very relaxing wine tasting with the most spectacular views of Paso Robles area.
The wines were delightful and we bought many to bring home. We enjoyed our charcuterie plates as well.

Gorgeous View

By Footsteps2Somewhere |

This winery has a expansive outdoor patio area with gorgeous views. Reservations and masks are required and only outdoor tastings are being done because of COVID19. It would be a great place to see the sunset. We took the last reservation of the day but it was before the time change so the sun didn't set while we were there. The wine tasting fee is $40 so it is on the very high end of tasting fees for the area.

Stunning Views & Great Wine

By minelson1313 |

Absolutely loved our experience at Daou. Yes, the price for a wine tasting was a bit more than other locations -- however, you are paying for amazing service, great wine and a gorgeous view that is like no other in Paso Robles. I highly recommend going in the afternoon/early evening for the sunset (killer location).

A restaurant in disguise as a tasting room

By happycorgi |

The most expensive tasting we had in Paso, with average wine. This is a place to socialize and enjoy the view. The crowd was young and trendy and seemed to be there on an outing, not for wine tasting. There is a very expensive appetizer menu if you want to eat while you taste. The setting is beautiful, the music is loud, and the atmosphere is frantic. It was not enjoyable other than the location.

Overall atracks rated 8.5/10.

We went for a wine tasting. The tasting room and compound on the mountain has really truly incredible views. Very scenic and well worth it to go for the views. Inside is a big operation with multiple seating areas. Lots of food options and good tasting wine.

Absolutely amazing!

By LumiSk |

This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen! the views are breathtaking! The place is amazing, elegant and exclusive. We had lunch and tasted several wines. everything was delicious and the service was great. We will definitely go back.

Amazing View!

By SWarnerOR |

Beautiful scenery & view - breathe taking. The interior is also lovely. My rating is a 4 only because they need options by the glass for just tastings without additional fees/charges.

High-end Cabs with jaw-dropping views.

By Waterloonie |

Jaw-dropping views. Their ubiquitous Cabernet is well-known but a visit here will get you acquainted with their high-end Cabernets and Bordeaux blends. Daou has the tasting program down cold with very knowledgeable reps pouring outside on nice days.

Exceptional Experience

By Jan B |

The trip to Daou Winery is a definite must for wine tasting in the Paso Robles area. The facility is fabulously appointed with beautiful materials that makes one feel pampered. Although the tasting fee is high, it is waived if you join the club. Additionally, the views are beyond spectacular! The wines offer a treat for the palate.

Daou Winery is an Expensive Visit

By rsrubin11 |

First of all, a reservation is a must. Without one, you might not get in to their tasting.
Interestingly, their price for food is over-the-top. One sandwich was $56!!

Nonetheless, I still like their cabernet sauvignon. Good wine for the price when purchased at a store - not sure what their prices are at the winery as we didn't stay due to not having a reservation.

Great experience

By Judy B |

We visited Daou Winery today and had an amazing experience! We loved the wines, food and terrific view. Best of all was our wine educator, Alejandro, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He could see that we were enjoying our experience so he suggested that we sit back and just relax and stay as long as we wanted. We look forward to our next visit to Paso Robles and Daou Winery!

Our Favorite

By David H |

This was without question our best stop on our two day winery tour in Paso Robles. We were greeted immediately by a very nice host. He offered us a glass of sparkling wine and took us to out outdoor table. The garden style setting and views were absolutely beautiful! Our hostess was very nice, well informed and took her time explaining the wines offered. We ordered a charceuterie board and a hummus plate, both of which were very good. The wines did not take a back seat to any of this though, all of the offerings were very very good. It might seem like a small thing, but everything was paced really well also. We never felt rushed, but we were never long with an empty glass either. All in all this was a fantastic experience which I would highly recommend!

Great patio views & dog friendly

By Mugsy001 |

DAOU has a great patio with views all around. We're not wine snobs, but the wine was good, as was the cheese board. Dog friendly !

Worth a visiti

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I had an awesome experience tasting wine with the rainy weather. The blankets were a cozy touch. Our wine-pour-er (Cooper) was awesome. The only suggestion we have to is to restructure your deal for for waiving a wine-tasting for three bottles. It doesn't make a lot of sense when you have bottles from $40-150. Set a dollar amount as opposed to bottle amount. For example, we would have loved to splurge for your $150 Soul of Alion, but that didn't make sense for us with your bottle #s.

Beautiful winery and great wines

By W3694DLchris |

This winery has gotten to be one of the most beautiful wineries we have ever been to. It is located up hill and it has a gorgeous view of the winery. We came for the tastings a bit early and it was still foggy out but it didn’t take long for the fog to lift and you can enjoy the scenery. Definitely one of those places you can spend hours outside. The wines were good, we were offered more than what we had signed up for. Love, love.

The view - the wine - all excellent

By Vern S |

We took a chance on getting in a day before our reservations and were successful!! Glad we did - the weather was great (full sun, mild breeze) - so we sat outside to enjoy the view & the wine; which was great!
This was our SECOND favorite winery (behind Calcareous), but the view was superior!!
Service was good with good follow through. We ended up purchasing a view bottles to ship home.
If we are ever back in the Paso Robles area - we will DEFINITELY return to this winery - worth every penny!!

Wine very Bad, Location spectacular

By APed86 |

The location is Spectacular. Me and my wife we booked for a wine tasting last Saturday. Zowie was our wine conductor and she was very nice, but didn't explain spontaneously nothing regarding the property, the story, but just instead, let us sit, pour the wine. The upset thing that the expectations were high, and all the wines they weren't great, at all. While tasting I realized seeing online that the winery sells also at Costco. Super purple teeth, super hangover and can tell a lot of chemical sulfites. The wines were very bad. Don't recommend the product at all. The company is invested the business in the environment. Been two days before to two other local wineries, and two wine tastings in a row, at night not even a glass of water and slept as a rose. Day after not hangover at all. After instead the DAOU experience, day after felt very bad headache. You spend 100$ in two to taste not a good product at all, and I'm gentle to not use another word. Hope they will be focus more on the quality and not on the chemical sulfites in the future.

Beautiful views and great wine

By Brenna77 |

This is our favorite winery. Quality wines, beautiful grounds with outstanding top of the world view.
Outstanding service and hospitality. Daou Red wines are incomparable. Soul of the Lion and Eye of the Falcon - no words.

Beautiful, but way overpriced wine

By John B |

This is a stunning place to visit. Great views and great facility. Nice staff and very welcoming.

But, the wine is very expensive and not anywhere as good as my basic grocery store $15 bottles of wine.

Amazing wine, views, and staff

By mbanahan |

Outstanding winery with the best view of the valley and in the region.

A nostalgic winery for us having visited many times -- we love the wines and location and must point out the wonderful staff. Our wine tasting host, Kevin, was absolutely outstanding and Zoe was wonderful as we left. Kevin provided extensive knowledge of the wines, the vineyards, and stayed at the winery for almost 3 hours chatting with him throughout our tasting.

It has a wonderful history and the Daou brothers continue to move this winery in the right direction.

Highly recommend if you're in the region.

Stunning

By A_So_Cal_Local |

Such a beautiful property! And to top it off with great Daou wine and food... it doesn't get any better. This is probably one of the best wineries I've been to... and I've been to many! Their position on the hill, their spectacular views, and their wines... it was just perfect. Can't wait to return!

Magnificent!

By Brian F |

The views are surpassed only by the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon! We came for a tasting and wound up staying for several hours. The staff is knowledgeable about the wines and very friendly. We wound up purchasing three bottles as the wine was so good and just not something you run across at your local wine store. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful Location - Very Busy

By Michael C |

Daou is certainly a force to recon with. If you aren't aware of these folks, you better do some homework on the area. They are the seeming heavyweights of this AVA.

Each wine was very good. As we all do, I had my favorites. The Daou brothers' pursuit of a California-based Bordeaux blend that competes with the Bordeaux giants is largely achieved. I've not tasted the best of the best from Bordeaux but have tasted quite a bit - and these wines do compete with their Bordeaux cousins. Very, very nice.

Aaron in the tasting room was an incredible host, offering attention, knowledge, good attitude and good humor. I purchased a few bottles to take with me and I'm sure at some point will order more.

My one comment that is slightly negative is related to the atmosphere and the pricing. The tasting fee is $40.00, which is significantly higher than anything I've ever experienced. I had not done enough research on this - I may not have even gone to Daou had I been aware of this - I hardly ever end up paying the tasting fee because I buy wine, but it's just a bit over the top. I do understand one aspect of that, though, because the tasting room and the environment are somewhat like a large chain restaurant - you are shuttled to the tasting room in a very nice Mercedes sprinter van from a lower level parking lot and, when you arrive, you are greeted by a concierge who inquires about reservations, etc. There was a line for not only the women's bathroom but oddly for the men's room as well. The point - this is a very, very busy tasting room which, of course is a testament to the popularity of the location and the wines. So, to somewhat control the crowds they have increased price and moved parking away from the building, imposing a bit of a control feature on crowds.

This is, however, a beautiful winery with beautiful wines. The staff in the tasting room is wonderful, too.

Drinking with beautiful view

By pldj m |

If you have appointment, you can drive all the way to the top of hill. Otherwise, parking under the hill, will have shuttle to take you to the top to test the wines. Sit in their yard, by drinking the wines, by viewing the whole winery valley, so enjoy.

Anniversary

By goofy6508 |

Location is outstanding and the wine great. We sampled and had an appetizer plate. Spent several hours enjoying the grounds, wine, and food.

Beautiful place

By comcgan |

Visited Daou with my wife yesterday. The view alone is worth the admission, on a clear day we could see for miles. Tasting fee is $45 which is a bit high. Service was excellent. Wines were very good. If you can get a reservation, try to visit. An advantage of Covid is that there is more room to explore and it’s not too crowded.

Wonderful place..

By Jerry P |

Great views.. beautiful property... excellent wines and a great place to stop for lunch. But it is EXPENSIVE... the MOST Expensive of the wineries. And they know it..

Amazing Views; Breathtaking Wine

By Jenny Y |

The true gem of Paso Robles. This vineyard is on top of 2,200 feet of elevated paradise. Sweeping fees and delicious reds. Their cheese plate is phenomenal. Well worth the $48

Amazing wine tasting

By Amy G |

I am thrilled to be able to compliment the extraordinary hospitality we received while wine tasting at Daou Winery! They went above and beyond to showcase not only their impeccable wine but their customer service was outstanding.
I would especially like to compliment that of Lisa, Samantha, Erin and all those that make our time so special

Cheers,

Amy Griffith

Great wines

By lovemaui32724 |

This winery is well worth a visit. Only negative is the cost. Wine tasting is $40 per person. Would recommend you buy a bottle and enjoy the view.

Very enjoyable experience

By SaratogaMom |

We were in the area with 3 other couples and decided to come up to Daou with two of our friend's dogs (a Great Dane and a Beagle). The staff was super friendly and the winery is very dog friendly. We were hosted by the most gracious server, Alejandro (I think), but what I enjoyed the most was before we even ordered our flights, he explained that if we bought at least 3 bottles of wine, our flight would be compensated. In addition, he not only served us the five wines in the flight, but added two additional wines which I ended up buying along with another two in the flight (check - free flight). The view is spectacular, the inside was also amazing, the staff were so nice, the ambience was relaxing and there was no rush by the staff to move our group of 7 plus two dogs out anytime soon, even with the long line of people coming in constantly. We were the first to arrive, which meant we were able to park in the higher lot next to the winery. I was especially relieved that everyone in the group enjoyed the experience since I organized this wine tasting day. Thank you Daou! I will be back again!

AMAZING !!

By Jeff Z |

Don’t miss this place !! Breathtaking views, beautiful- Serene
Setting, great wine and food ! Old world hospitality !!

Skip the tasting, buy a bottle and enjoy the view

By bmah0ney34 |

Great view, we thought that the wines were mediocre. If you’re looking for a view to sip your wine this is the place. I would skip the tasting, buy a bottle and enjoy it with the appetizers available from their kitchen.

Most beautiful setting & Best Wine in Paso

By Adair1235 |

The drive to Daou is lovely and beautiful, but the view is outstanding, second only to the ambiance of the winery itself and the tasting room! It is a very warm and inviting place where all you want to do is sit and visit with a great glass of wine and a plate of fresh mediterranean fare. If you can only visit one of two wineries on your trip to Paso, make sure one of them is Daou!

SO GENEROUS AND KIND, AND THE PLACE IS GORGEOUS, TOO!

By Janet Grey |

I arrived here not knowing what to expect. I'd been to a few other wineries in the Central Coast for tastings, but most were around $10-$15, and some were even free! That's not the case here. You'll spend $40 for a tasting, but it's more than worth it! The woman serving us could not have been more knowledgeable. She explained in great detail how they take care of the soil and teach the vines themselves to work together in "companionship". I can't explain it but she did and brilliantly! They use a low water system that is very complicated scientifically but, again, she made it clear (but I can't possibly!). The wines themselves were some of the best I tasted in the region. Each one was ery special and, well, elegant for lack of a better word! The pours were generous and when my friend was not feeling like she could afford a full tasting, they took care of her anyway, asking what she liked and treating her to some tastes. Because I love sweeter wines, they brought me a bit of their special port -- new to them. It was exquisite. I'd just returned from Portugal where I'd tasted quite a bit of it, but this was every bit as good if not better. The views were nothing less than spectacular as well. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

Wine Tasting at Daou Vineyards

By Ed D |

We have been going to Daou Vineyards for several years now and it gets better each time. The grounds are beautiful along with their tasting. The wines include Sole of a Lion, Estate Mayote, Eye of the Falcon and many others which are all great. Fun visit.

DAOU-a taste of wine heaven?!

By Wine Chic Woman |

DAOU Vineyards is amazing! The views from up there are spectacular and their awesome silky smooth wines speak for themselves. Gabriel, our wine host, was GREAT and steered us to ordering the Mezze platter (veggies, bread, hummus platter) -excellent complement to the wines that day!

A lovely experience!

By CaPalm |

Back to back great lunches which pair with super wines. Tough to beat on a sunny day with friends and an appetite!

Food and wine and view

By John98273 |

This place is expensive but the view ,good wine, & food. Drive up there don’t leave town without going here. Had a good flight of wine and some beef, and pork, and scallop

A MUST Visit for Views and Wine tasting

By Juli B |

We are members of the Daou wine club and when visiting from the Midwest, we always enjoy a special tasting and the gorgeous view. The winding road takes you to the top of Daou “mountain”. Maddie was our host and gave a brief history, which we knew but one couple that was part of our group of 6 had never visited before. We ordered a special charcuterie tasting where each person had a board in front of them, and a flight of accompanying wines, led by Maddie. We had me
Add reservations a few months ahead while planning our trip. The cost was $35/person for members, and $55/person for non members. Take time to walk the grounds and enjoy all the gorgeous gardens and flowers as well as the panoramic views. The wine we typically enjoy at Daou is a number of their bigger reds, such as Soul of a Lion, in honor of their father. Enjoy!

Awesome Paso Robles winery experience

By Bernard B |

Wow! Beautiful setting on top of a mountain and lucky enough to arrive for 11am experience. We received a table for 2 on the cliffside facing south, perfect weather, knowledgeable woman "Billy" was great explaining the product/pairings with foods/personal thoughts. Ordered tableside lunch and did not leave until 1:00pm. Of course, purchased 3 bottles to waive the tasting fee but well worth it. A must see when visiting Paso Robles.

Best view vineyard in Paso Robles

By regis k |

We totally enjoyed the wine tasting experience at Daou Winery. This is the top wine tasting venue in Paso Robles, so reservation is hard to get but a must even if you just come to purchase a bottle of wine.

Just as the vineyard has claimed, the venue is on top of the highest hill in Paso Robles and the view is spectacular. With a glass of good wine on hand and an amazing view of the vineyard, it’s the best way to spend a late morning.

The wine tasting includes 5 separate pours starting from a light Pinot noir to a French red blend and finished with the Cab estate wine. I like the French red blend the best as it’s smooth and not overly tannin.

Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable. We had a good education on wines. I just learned that in order to qualify as estate wine, not only the wines have to be produced and grown in the property but the storage has to be on the same property as well.

The costs of the wine tasting is a bit pricy but it’s worth it. You come this far for wine tasting, you should go for only the best.

As the summer is quite hot here, you should come in the morning to beat the heat.

Gone Corporate

By Ken H |

Used to be one of our favorites but has gone “Corporate” since their sale - View is still worth the visit it the vibe is very different. Not Paso like

Beautiful Place

By Jim_atl |

I have been going to Paso for about 10 years and heard about Daou (and have had their wines). But the high tasting fee seemed out of line. We hired a driver this trip and she took us to Daou late in the day. The views were amazing. They gave each of us a half glass of wine and said they were closing up. We made a reservation for the next day. We sat outside and had a tasting and some food, which were excellent. The staff were very kind and accommodating. It was significantly better than I originally expected and worth the fee. Go for the view on a nice day and a glass of wine at least.

This is the new place to beat!!!

By 10sChick |

With many wine tasting experiences in our travel history throughout many states, I have to say that DAOU is now THEE winery that has set the bar not just high, but I’m guessing unreachable! This place is phenomenal on all accounts. I love a great patio as much as the next guy, but this setting is beyond epic. It was our first stop of the day and we didn’t want to leave. Ever. After all the ooh-ing and aaah-ing over the view and garden, we also very much enjoyed their wine. We purchased 3 bottles of their estate cab which was amazing. Our pourer was super friendly, and never gave off a stuffy vibe at all. Yes, the tasting fee is on the high side, but no different than any other high end winery and you should just know that before you come in. Plan to make reservations a couple of weeks in advance. This is a winery we will absolutely come back to each and every time we’re in the area.

Gorgeous winery with nice seating and food

By RandRCalifornia |

Oh how I loved our visit to Daou. I buy their regular cabernet for at home often so I was excited to try some of their less mass produced wines. The winery is just beautiful - perhaps the most scenic in Paso. The tasting is a bit pricey compared to other wineries ($40) but they allow you to split that with another person which worked fine for us. You may not bring in any of your own food like some other places allow. Their food is not inexpensive but the platters are large enough for 4-5 people. We had the mezze which was a greek platter with pita, several hummus dips, as well as other dips. I believe it cost $42 but it was very big. The outdoor seating is just fabulous. The service was knowledgable and friendly and we could not have had a better experience. It's not a place to be loud or rowdy - but a tranquil serene space where you can relax, not be rushed and take in the beauty that surrounds you.

We will definitely return next time we are in the area. Cheers!

By Steff A |

Our party of 13 had an great wine tasting afternoon at Daou. Our host Kevin was amazing...

The winery is situated at the top of a mountain that overlooks their vineyards and the rolling hills of Paso Robles. They have a luxurious complimentary shuttle that's constantly bringing guests to/from the winery. The tasting room is spectacular, classy, spacious and extremely busy when we arrived. The patio area was also packed and we were setup in a very well shaded tasting area overlooking the mountains.

2017 Reserve Chardonnay - A tasty and refreshing chardonnay
2016 Estate Cuvee Lizzy - I love Malbecs and I had 2 bottles of the Lizzy shipped home.
2018 Daou Rose - A lovely Rose that I purchased for my Rose friends back home.
2016 Estate Soul of a Lion - This is an fantastic Cabernet blend that many of us purchased as well.

The cutlery board pleasing to the eye and the palate. It was a fantastic spread that was generous in portion and highly recommended. We had some tasty chicken, beef and shrimp skewers that were on point. We enjoyed all the plates that we had at Daou.

The best part was Kevin as he was so friendly and upbeat throughout our visit. He had a story for each bottle we sampled and he was entertaining and educational. The kitchen was great with getting the dishes out to our table timely.

Overall, Daou Vineyards is a must visit in Paso Robles. The views are astounding and definitely a major social media moment for your followers. The wines are fantastic and the cuisine is great quality. I hope you're lucky enough to get Kevin as your tasting host. We will definitely return next time we are in the area. Cheers!

Substantially Over-Rated and Over-Priced

By Fred W |

Our group of four planned to end our our day with what we thought would be an amazing experience after reading other DAOU reviews. Unfortunately, our experience at DAOU was vastly inferior to our visits to Tobin James and Calcareous Vineyards. Our group wanted to give DAOU 2.5 stars however we can’t so being generous we rounded up. The biggest positive was the beautiful location on top of a hill over looking the region. Now, here are the disappointments: 1. $40 price point. Although the wines carry a higher retail than other wineries we visited, the pours of 5 wines averaged 1.25-1.5 ounces. Very small pours when you are paying $40! We felt like the five pours averaged to one glass of wine so we were paying $40 plus tip for a glass of wine. The second disappointment was the lack of knowledge of our wine pourer/server. We asked her to describe the wines and she said, “she doesn’t like to give tasting notes” and instead described the wines as “big” or “smooth.” This wholly unacceptable!!! She should have memorized the tasting notes the winemaker made and then recited them. Net/net we cannot recommend DAOU as it is overpriced and served by untrained staff.

My first stop every trip to Paso Robles

By TeresaB25 |

Well, the wine is spectacular, and we travel to Paso Robles for the wine, so it makes sense this would be our first stop. This time, we were sharing our love of the area with first time guests and no other winery has Daou’s “wow!” factor.

We arrived in time for lunch out on the shady terrace overlooking acres of vines and lavender. You need reservations these days in order to park on site. The shuttle system works well, is very efficient, but I like driving right up. While enjoying our tasting, we ordered a bountiful charcuterie platter filled with cheeses, olives, honey, crackers, fresh bread, dried fruit, jam, mustards, and pate’. It was ample for three hungry girls as lunch. Our server, Chase, was professional, knowledgeable, and entertaining (professional staff is a sign of a great winery). The wine was as perfect as ever.

After our tasting over lunch was over, we shifted to Adirondack chairs on the lawn with glasses of our favorites and watched the raptors soar on thermals over the spectacular landscape stretching out to a distant horizon. Perfect afternoon, perfect wine, it’s pretty pricey, but an unforgettable experience. Make a reservation and try to pick a less busy time and day so you can enjoy it for a few hours. Just running in for a quick tasting would make you miss the whole delicious experience.

Make Daou your 1st Stop

By JWinMadison |

There's Daou and then there's everything else. We walked in and we're greeting by the nicest (and attractive) people. It was Zin Fest Weekend so it was pretty crowded but we were treated like the most important people in the room. We were introduced to Brian who knew the product backwards and forward and only worked on the weekend - now that's some good training. Everyone working their was gorgeous - like we're J. Crew and Abercrombie models retire. The wines were delicious and the scenery is spectacular! Brian introduced us to his fiancé, the tasting room manager, who was stunning and incredibly friendly. If we wanted to walk around the property Brian would hold our spot. We had such a great time and didn't want to leave.

You get what you pay for- incredible!

By mimileek |

This is a stunning property with wines to match, you will not find a better view in Paso! The tasting is $40 but you are treated super high quality wines that rival the much more expensive wines in Napa. Let alone Napa tastings like this would be $60 or more. Food is incredible, best cheese plate I have ever had! Can’t wait to head back for another world class wine experience.

Just wonderful

By Hayley C |

The most amazing place! Just gorgeous. Went on the vineyard tour and cellar tasting which was fantastic. Had an amazing lunch with tasting and sampled some fabulous wines. Lisa our guide was wonderful. Loved every second. A must visit if you're in Paso.

A MUST see!!!

By Jen S |

Not only is the wine incredible but the views are breathtaking. Make reservations and wear layers. When the breeze picks up, it gets chilly.

Note: This place is NOT kid friendly. No changing table in bathroom. I was told I could take my baby to the parking lot to change his diaper. You have to take a shuttle to the parking lot. Not cool.

A one time must see and do,

By Gordon B |

We were taken there for a treat. A more tranquil spot with views will be hard to find. Wine tasting at its best. We sat on the hill overlooking the valley and enjoyed the cheese and cracker board. Recommended.

FORGET IT

By MartyPlace |

We have property in the area and go wine tasting in the Central Coast Area three to four times a year. We've been to Dauo twice. The first time was about 4 years ago and wine tasting price was OK. The last time was the last time we are going to be there. A tasting is way over priced and their does not merit what they charge.

There are way to many great wineries to visit with better wines who charge 5 to 10 and will refund that with a purchase.

A BIG THUMBS DOWN

Amazing

By RandSand |

We cannot imagine a better wine tasting experience. The views are amazing, the wines are superb, and the staff is excellent. Our wine steward was especially attentive and helpful.

Beautiful and expansive views!

By Yvonne S |

This vineyard has beautiful expansive hilltop views. My husband and I had a beautiful outdoor location with a very knowledgeable French sommelier. He was very attentive and never rushed us through our visit. We didn’t enjoy any of the food since we were going to dinner afterwards. In my opinion, if you buy any wine your tasting should be comped. We purchased a bottle of their exclusive Patrimony wines at $275 a bottle. We should have had both our tastings comped. They comped one. ☹️

Gorgeous Views, Great Lunch, and Decent Wines

By Mark H |

Located on a hilltop, the Dao Winery offers spectacular views. The tasting room and terrace are modern and inviting. Schedule your tasting near lunch time and enjoy the Pairing Menu. We split the salmon and Onyx Mezze plate between four people and they were excellent. My favorite wine of the tasting was the Unbound, a unique blend of Petite Sarah, Tempranillo, and Tannat. I have always been a fan of the entry Cabernet Sauvignon that you can find at Costco for about $20, however the tasting menu featured two pricey Cabernets that were priced a little high for the quality IMO. All and all, a spectacular winery and well worth a visit.

Stunning views, luxury winery

By travelsavvylife |

Stunning views, busy and booked out at around 11:30am. $40 tasting fee so we did not try the wines.
If you want to spend this much would recommend reserving and having enough time to hang out for a while to enjoy the scenery.
Blankets provided for outside seating.

Beautiful, Picturesque wine tasting

By Kevin C |

Incredible views, fantastic wine, incredible service from very knowledgeable and kind staff. This is a must see if you are in the area. It's a bit outside of town but has the best view in the entire area.

Great wine and great view

Stopped for a visit on a Sunday, with a couple of coworkers Sarah served us and she was so pleasant and great attitude with attention to every detail. On the weekends make sure you make a reservation. They offer a free tasting for Military and Veterans which I applaud.

⭐ One-Star Review: DAOU Vineyards & Winery

By Claudia S |

My recent experience at DAOU was deeply disappointing and left me walking away from a long-anticipated visit completely deflated. While the location is undeniably beautiful, the service and handling of our lunch fell far below what one would expect from a place of this caliber.

I had a specific dietary concern and asked our server if the beet salad (which included pickled and roasted beets) could be customized or at least sampled beforehand due to a sensitivity to spice. He said he’d check with the chef and took my partner’s steak order (medium-rare) in the meantime. He returned with a sample of pickled beets, which were indeed too spicy for me, so I opted for the steak (medium-well) instead.

Oddly, despite saying I didn’t want the salad, the server brought it anyway and said it was "on the house." The salad included two kinds of beets—only one of which I’d sampled. I considered switching my order back to the salad, but told the server not to cancel my steak because I do not believe in wasting food, especially when it involves an animal’s life.

Then came the bigger issue: my partner’s steak arrived, but mine didn’t. The server admitted he’d placed that order first and said mine was “on the way.” That didn’t make sense for a medium-well steak, and sure enough, mine came out just minutes later—completely undercooked (medium-rare). I flagged the issue immediately and requested it be cooked more, even suggesting it be butterflied to speed it up. Fifteen minutes later, a brand-new steak arrived. My original had clearly been thrown out—despite my clear wishes not to waste food. The server shrugged and gave a flat, generic apology.

By that point, my appetite was gone, and so was my mood. We skipped the rest of our wine tasting and asked for the check. And to top it all off—we were still charged full price for everything (minus the salad I originally declined). No offer of compensation or acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong.

We came to DAOU excited to enjoy a beautiful, relaxing afternoon. Instead, we left disappointed, upset, and in a sour mood—so much so it even sparked an argument between my partner and me. It’s hard to enjoy the view when the hospitality doesn’t match it. This visit missed the mark entirely.

Fabulous wine/ spectacular views

By Angie Kristy |

Such a gorgeous view while sipping wine from their exclusive wine tasting selection. You have the option of selecting some food to accompany your wine tasting. The food was superb! Definitely a must see and do!! The atmosphere is delightful with outside or inside options for seating.

Exceeds Expectations

By Thetipsydutchman |

Let me start by saying that during our 1st visit to DAOU we joined their wine club. Yes, it was that good. The place is amazing. Wine is great, views are great and the staff is always on their game. I’ve never seen such an attentive staff. Being a local the perks we got with becoming members was a no brainer. We have been back twice since we joined and haven’t regretted it.

Visiting DAOU is a World Class experience, 8/22/22

Visiting DAOU is a World Class experience, 8/22/22. DAOU boasts one of the prettiest expansive hilltop views I've ever seen. It ranks right up there with Rombauer view, which is my favorite. Hill top views are always amazing and expansive, and this one delivers a panoramic view all around the winery of the valley and vineyards. Amazing!!!

We were helped by William Becker, a very knowledgeable and gracious French host. We learned all the winemakers are immigrants and we enjoyed the world-class customer service attention to detail. Like we ordered a charcuterie board and it was wonderful, satisfying four people. The cheeses were fabulous paired with the wines. Loved the Falcon, Chemin de Fleur and Chard. Thank you William.

great view, poor service

By angie1102 |

This winery has arguably the best view in the Paso Robles area. Upon arrival we were greeted and taken to a table outside to wait for service. We waited for 5-10 min while staff walked around us, none of them welcoming us or even acknowledging us. So instead we walked up to the bar area and again waited many minutes. Luckily someone acknowledged my boyfriend while I was in the restroom, otherwise I told him we were leaving. I was aware of previous reviews mentioning poor customer service but wanted to come anyway due to the view. The wine educator apologized for the wait and offered us a tasting. Wines weren't anything special and as I was already upset about waiting, I didn't buy any bottles and left quite promptly. Folks, come here for the view but don't expect good service.

Beautiful Views from Tasting Room

By Janet M |

The vineyards stand alone at an elevation of 2,200 feet on Daou Mountain. This winery is so busy, you have to park your car and take a shuttle bus up to the tasting room. The views are stunning from the tasting room across the rest of the Paso Robles. But take your wallet if you decide to visit here. A wine tasting flight of 5 wines will cost $50.00 per person (no waiver with a purchase). We had two (2) wine tastings and ordered a Cheese & Charcuterie plate ($50.00) for a total of $150.00. We did not buy any bottles of wine.

Amanda for the Win

By W8514PGdavidk |

Great wine, great views and Amanda for the win. Not only excellent with her wine tasting presentation but all her other food and winery recs in the area were spot on. Well done!

My sister's first wine tasting and she was overwhelmed and delighted

By archi2m |

Yes, it's not free or the cheapest, and they now do a bigger sales job while serving but in a nice and somewhat entertaining way (every place needs to make a living). The server was fun and helpful. As it was my sister's first time wine tasting we felt Daou would be a good first start with the nibbles, great wine and wow those views! The architecture and setting is world class, sort of the top of the hill (a bit of a pun, sorry) class winery and tasting room. So many other's in the region that are equally amazing on various levels, but if you want to wow friends, family and others, this is a sure bet.

Our best wine club membership

By Greg H |

The Daou brothers are very proud of their wines and their prices certainly show it. But the wines are truly exceptional. Couple this with the fantastic location atop a mountain in the Adelaida district, the well-planned evening events, and the beautiful facility, this is the winery to join if you can afford the shipments. And they keep improving - we can’t wait for the new outdoor kitchen to be cranked up and running. At $40 a person, the tasting is no bargain either if you’re not ready to join, but again, the wines are truly superb. Give it a try!

We were delighted to be at this beautiful winery 🍷.

By Joyce P |

Meeting the manager Kevin. Always make a reservation for wine 🍷 tasting.
When we arrived at the gate to the winery 🍷, the guard told us they were booked solid. My daughter ❤️asked to speak to the manager. The shuttle brought us up to the beautiful winery 🍷. We asked the receptionist if we could speak to the manager. We were seated at a small table at the entrance. Kevin Anderson came to talk to us. We told him that we travelled a long distance to be at Dauo Winery. Kevin did not turn us away. My daughter was the wine taster. We order a snack of humus and Naan bread. Kevin gave us a beautiful history of how the winery got started. We especially loved the story about the Daou brothers. 🍷 Kevin was a very charming, kind and knowledgeable host. We will be returning next year but we will be sure to make reservations.

One of our favorites

By Chachi_MN |

Our wine driver made this the last stop on our trip and we were so happy. The winery was almost done serving their tastings but fit us in. Bought some great bottles and will be joining the wine club. Don’t skip this place.

The view, the view, the view!

By hestradas |

The view, the view, the view! My husband and I enjoyed every moment of our time at Daou. The staff was friendly, informative and so helpful. We had a beautiful and comfortable outdoor spot for our tasting along with a light snack. Our pourer was so informative and knowledgeable about the wines. Could not have asked for a better experience.

Great wines with an amazing view!

By My name is Jeff |

Wow, what a view! We were aware of Daou’s reputation for having great wines, so we decided to visit the winery. The tasting room was a refreshing escape from the triple digit temperatures and the view from the patio is amazing! The tasting was a little pricey in comparison to other vineyards in the area ($80 for two). We fell in love with the Lion and couldn’t leave without joining the wine club and purchasing a bottle. We will definitely return. If you are planning on eating on the patio, be sure to make a reservation as it does fill up quickly.

Don't eat the food!!!

By Sandy G |

Tasting room hostess, Zoe was very sweet and charming. Wine is okay, view and are is beautiful. Our charcuterie plate had a dead fly amongst the olives. The attitude of the staff was, what do you want us to do about it??? Uh, hello, how about replacing the food or not making us pay for it? Clearly the staff had not been trained in proper customer service.

Amazing views, ok but expensive wines and dreadful hostess

By CTPreview |

Firstly the view, the location, the setting, are all simply amazing. The Daou wines at Safeway’s etc are one of my favorites, so I had great hopes of finding that outrageously great estate wine in amongst the half dozen for sampling. $40 to test wines seems high but I would gladly buy a box of the standard Daou, so I wasn’t put off. As they don’t charge if you buy three bottles. I went, fully expecting to buy a box or two.

Sadly the wines were all ok or slightly better than ok, but the prices were $50 to $125 per bottle. Which is ridiculous. Nice wine but not in the $100 range of wine.

Not big deal. I was happy enough to enjoy the winery and view. It is amazing. However when our hostess offered to tell us the Daou story, I was at least expecting something close the truth.

Got utter garbage. Seemingly they (the Daou brothers) according to Jill, anyway, founded a software company that had the 3rd biggest IPO ever, in 2005, where they made their fortune and then set about to build a winery. “You must of heard of Daou Systems”. Being a tech CEO, I was a bit surprised I hadn’t heard of them at all. Third biggest IPO! Hmmmm. I don’t think so.

I did my research. Nothing close to reality. Tiny IPO. Company was bought in 2005 for $21M.

Numerous other errors aside, I felt the visit was worth it. The view is amazing. The wines at the vineyard are extremely expensive for how I felt they tasted. But that’s subjective I guess. $40 tasting is worth it for the views alone. But to be told garbage as part of the Daou story was a big disappointment. I had gone hoping to consider joining as a member but left deciding if they can’t their facts & story straight, why trust them

The Best In Paso

By Citygirl1961 |

I love everything about Daou Vineyards. I had been there once, and then I joined as a member. What a beautiful property. The wine is so good, the wait staff is so knowledgeable and accommodating, and the food is great too. We stayed 2 1/2 hours, and could have stayed longer, but we had another wine tasting appointment. If you go to Paso, you have to go to Daou. You will not regret it!

Heaven on Earth!

By Mike A |

Heaven on Earth! I do not drink, but that did not dampen my enjoyment of visiting Daou Vineyards!
Daou is one of the most beautiful parts of the beautiful state of California!
The grounds are exquisite as are the views!
The service and dining ambiance are first-rate!
My companions raved about the five or six samples they enjoyed and purchased!
I'd go back tomorrow!

Beautiful views!

By Happy Trails to All |

The grounds are absolutely spectacular and worth the drive to see. The price for the wine tasting at $50 per person is very high considering the pour was on the small side. The charcuterie tray was very good but again spendy at a $50 price tag. It's worth the trip to just see the grounds but I would recommend just getting a glass of wine and walking around and enjoying the scenery.

An Experience to Remember

By db7477 |

Daou highlighted our visit to Paso Robles. It offered the best wines, grounds, food and service. The views from Daou Mountain are as impressive and their wines. The tasting did not include the brothers homage to their father, “Soul of a Lion” but the wines were excellent. If I lived closer I would have joined their wine club.

It’s a bit of splurge but worth it. Next time I will plan a sunset visit.

Beautiful views, well manicured grounds and great wine and food

By My name is Jeff |

My wife and I visited Daou in September 2020, with another couple. We try to visit Daou every time we are near Paso Robles. Once you visit Daou, you will know why. The views are amazing, especially in early fall prior to a majority of grapes being picked from the vines. The Soul of Lion is my absolute favorite wine and I try to get a bottle when I can. The social distancing protocols were easy to follow since the outdoor seating area is expansive. Every seat has a great view. The wines are fantastic as well as the food. Oscar, helped us pair a ribeye salad with our wines that was delicious. If you plan on visiting any tasting rooms or vineyards while in Paso Robles, be sure to include Daou. You will not be disappointed. And remember to call ahead for a reservation, as all tasting rooms and vineyards require reservations.

Close, but no cigar

By Bea Kissinger |

DAOU is my very first wine tasting experience I've had. We didn't pay for the whole experience where they take you around the winery for a tour and down to the wine barrels, but we did pay to taste about 5-6 wines and relax out in their patio area.

My fave wines tasted and bought were: (ALL REDS)
1740
Eye of the Falcon

I also bought a wine called Clone 412 as a gift for my boss, which they say was super amazing.

The grounds and the scenery are beautiful, but it was a bit busy, I feel like we were a bit forgotten and kinda pushed on the backburner at times. I definitely would like to come back to Paso Robles and give them another chance at giving us attentive service because their wines are pretty damn great.

If I could give them 3.5 stars I would, but for now, until next time....

Fantastic wine with a beautiful view

By Fishin-man59 |

A little hard to find but worth the effort. The wine is all reserve level and fantastic as is the vista view

Great views and nice wines

By paisha |

DAOU Vineyards' grounds are breathtaking. Just beautiful. The welcome, check-in, seating, and tasting run like clockwork. We tasted some lovely wines and enjoyed a fantastic mezze platter. The downside was that our server was a bit arrogant; he clearly did not want to engage beyond sharing his script and didn't remove his sunglasses the entire time he talked with us. Felt a bit off-putting.

Enjoyed the reds.

By Danny B |

The View is well worth the price of admission.

We caught a nice sunny day with a cool breeze coming up the hill. Enjoyed the reds.

Don't make this your first stop, no other view compares.

Outstanding

By Kevin R |

We've read some other reviewers about expense and quality of Daou. We were impressed. Not full of themselves, we would say proud of their products and surroundings. We were. Professional, clean, overall first rate. Charcuterie and cheese plates were just as good as their wine selections and well presented.
Impressed and will return.

Beautiful

By normaray |

This is by far the most beautiful winery in all of Paso. the wines are super, the views are marvelous and their attention to detail in every aspect is matched.
this is a must see place.

Daou is worthy of a visit

By Don W |

5 yrs ago Daou was the Premiere high end wine stop for visitors. Today, the wines are rather less unique and the winery has become overly pricey and pretentious for the quality. Try it and see what you ,think.

Beautiful view

By jeffinsearchoffun |

This is a Napa style winery; meaning that you must make a reservation if you want to have some lunch and avoid the shuttle bus and be allowed to drive to the top. The wines are all expensive; they are good, comparable to many others in the area. The tasting is $40/person. We chose to purchase a bottle and go outside to sit down on one of the barrel Adirondack chairs and enjoy the view. If we had a reservation, we would have done similar, but would have had lunch and a chair in the shaded area. Worth a single trip.

Excellent wine and excellent experience

By joelovesliving |

If you like good wine, you should visit Daou.

We knew about the $40 tasting fee before we visited, so it wasn't a surprise. This is the highest tasting room in the west side of Paso. We decided to order wines by the glass and share among ourselves. We were welcomed to enjoy the setting at our pace, and our server was very engaging. My favorite wine of the weekend was purchased here (falconer?). Nice place with a neat history.

Hidden gem find!

By Donald H |

Located in the hilltops of Paso Robles! Excellent wine and food tasting. Probably the most expensive tasting in Paso, but was thoroughly enjoyed. Beautiful vistas from the outside patio. Food delicious. Again at $40 per person for tasting, not cheap for the area. IF you go, you will enjoy it.

What a view

By K h |

The place is so lovely I dont want to leave. The beautiful roses, lavender fields just WOW!!!!

The wine is fantastic.I highly recommend this place. One of the best view of Paso Robles for sure

Daou never disappoints

By CAKatie |

Just when we think we might give up our Daou membership - their wine is pricey - we visit here and know we can never give it up!

We noticed the tasting fee recently went up to $40. Tastings with our membership are included, but I will tell you that $40 will be one of the best $40 you've ever spent wine tasting. There is not a more beautiful setting and every wine is a wonderful discovery.

The staff (shout out to Orlianna) is attentive and delightful, with generous pours and the ability to revisit a wine. There are so many beautiful spots in Paso, and this has to be the prettiest. We typically buy their red blends, but this time we opted to bring home a couple of their Reserve Rosé bottles. Perfect wine for summer and it was market priced at $33 for members. It was a hot day, and that rosé pour was just what we wanted.

A visit to Daou is a special experience, and we are so glad we joined many years ago, back before the tasting room was completed, when the alabaster bar was just going in. The views, the staff, the wine - wonderful.

A must stop winery if you visit Paso Robles

By acli |

One of the nicest surroundings, nice staff, great food and excellent wines. If you visit Paso Robles, make sure you stop here for lunch and wine tasting. One of the nicest way to enjoy your wine tasting and the food is excellent. Soul of a lion is only available for wine club member and it is outstanding. Their seventeen forty is also very good and part of tasting.

The wine is not as Spectacular as the facility and views.

By James R |

The grounds are as impressive as any winery that we have visited including Napa and Sonoma. The wine at the high end level is quite good, I just do not believe it matches the price point. The lower end wine is quite inconsistent.

Best wine with incredible view

By jill123074 |

My husband and I joined Daou wine club in the last year and have been so impressed. The wine is outstanding and the property is gorgeous. We love having wine outside and sitting in chairs overlooking the beautiful view. We also love ordering their cheese platter that includes various cheeses, crackers, nuts, olives and even fresh honey comb. One of their cheeses is shaped like a flower. Spending a couple hours at Daou winery is heavenly! We can’t wait to return.

A Must See!

By JnMCole |

The views from DAOU are breathtaking! This stop was part of our anniversary weekend, and all I can say is WOW! The grounds are GORGEOUS, the wine is delicious, and the staff is very friendly. Reuben was our sommelier, and he was outstanding. Very knowledgeable about so many wines - California and French! Highly recommend this place!

Inappropriate practice

By josiah r |

Not have a tip request when purchasing wine.
After spending hundreds of dollars on their wine to have that slid into the purchase was inappropriate

Great view- wines are mostly heavy reds

By majoresq |

This winery is by appointment only. We booked a tasting with cheese and charcuterie. We were disappointed in their cheese (one) and charcuterie plate - the items looked like they were not freshly prepared and some were not edible. This winery is all about heavy, heavy reds. Their price point is high for a rather new, unknown winery. I suspect they are doing a lot of advertising. For wines, a visit to Tablas Winery, Adeliada Winery and Le Cuvier are worth a visit when in Paso Robles region.

Wine and views! Great Service

By ctexeter |

Make sure you get a reservation due to the limited seatings on the Patio. It was worth the trip. Awesome service on the patio. The food options were just right and we got to enjoy the view while having some wonderful wines. One of the best options to visit in the Paso region. We will be back.

Beautiful Winery!!

By Fipps |

I’m a big fan of the wines for years now. My first time visiting the property that is majestic! We got a tasting directed by Oscar and it was very good. It’s definitely a most if you are visiting Paso Robles!

Perfect Winery at Paso De Robles

By Jose L P |

It was a very pleasant feel to be able ti visit the winery without reservation. We asked at front area if we could just drop in for a wine tasting experience and he said most likely. We parked down below at parking lot A and wait for shuttle that will pick us up. When we were picked up about 8 -10 min, we were surprised to get picked up in a really nice Limo type huge van. It felt very comforting and A/C equipped.
After dropped off on front door, the view looked spectacular 360 degrees of valley and winery’s view.
So far everything was going well. After we checked in at front desk they greeted with a Rosé DAOU tasting and set us at a very nice and ambient table with a umbrella shade.
The scenery looked awesome and very nicely spread out . They really take care of their grounds. Perfect grounds.
Our Host Wesley Andrews greeted us and asked if it was our first time, of course we said and was very delighted that we came from Napa county are. He gave us a little run down on winery and he is very knowledgeable of wines. He showed us the options of food and wine and becoming a Member after we asked.
We order some food, the cheese platter, beat salad and a kofta meal, perhaps it was a bit too much but we did not have breakfast. We were do surprised with the taste and presentation of plates and even Naan bread on cheese platter. The plates had a middle easter fusion and it was a very good combination of tastes on dishes. We had 6 tastings, we did not know our tastings had six. It was perfect for our big meal. We walked all grounds and all hosts were very pleasant as we walked grounds and took lots of pictures. Some even offer to take our pictures. Which was very nice because my selfies of us were not as nice.
Anyway I won’t make it any longer and definitely will come back again and visit Wesley Andrews our Host.

Beautiful views (make reservations)

By BnRadventures2015 |

The views are amazing!! Simply can’t beat them. Great place to come and enjoy wine but be prepared to spend money. It’s $40 a tasting and you CANT bring in your own food which is very disappointing. I recommend coming and just buying a bottle of wine. Reservations are also necessary. We also had the cheese plate which was pricey but delicious.

Beautiful

By JLC |

Our visit was on December 26, 2018 to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday. We came here after lunch at
Thomas Hill Organics. I had emailed a few weeks prior to secure a reservation for seating for our party of 6. It was so easy to coordinate with the Estate Concierge and they were so accommodating!
We arrived a little early for our appointment, yet we had to park our SUV farther down and a free shuttle brought us up to the tasting room. Our driver ended up being Michael C. Hall's driver when they were filming the TV series, Dexter.
The vineyard it absolutely stunning and the views are amazing. It was a little cold and windy, but it would've been perfect on a warmer day! Still, it was packed for the day after Christmas and there were couples, families with young children, to even pets.
We were seated outside, but my mom got too cold so we asked our server if there was room inside. She was very accommodating and a large party just finished, so she had the table cleared and we went inside for our cheese and charcuterie platter in the wine members room. She made a special exception for us so that we could enjoy our bottle of red wine and our snacks in a warm setting. Everything was great despite being a little pricey. However, that is what I usually expect at any winery.
It was well worth it and I would love to return here in the Spring or Summer with warmer weather. A great vineyard even if Napa is about an hour away for me. I'd still visit Paso to expand our horizons for even more wineries and breweries! Thank you, Daou Vineyard staff for a great experience and a nice stop for my dad's 70th birthday!

Not impressed

By Maria P |

The tasting fee was high, it was crowded and under-impressed with the wines this year. Staff was not helpful or informative as other vineyards.
The view is always spectacular.

Best views, even better wine!

By Michelle R |

Trust me on this and make your reservation at DAOU right now! This was our favorite thing we did during our trip to Paso. Yes, it’s pricy for a tasting but you’re really paying for so much more than that so don’t compare it to the $20 tastings where you stand at the bar and spend 20 mins trying wines before moving on. This is a seated tasting (we did the $40pp one) and I loved that they would come pour your wine and then just leave you to enjoy it. They never rushed you to finish one pour to move on to the next, we easily spent an hour or so on the tasting portion and then bought 3 bottles (to waive a tasting fee) and enjoyed one of the bottles there with a cheese and charcuterie plate (so yummy!). Shout out to Alejandro for the best attention and service. He was so nice and never rushed or pressured us. We ended up buying 2 of their most expensive bottles because it was honestly the best thing we had on our trip. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Paso, I wish we lived closer!

Beautiful wine, panoramic views, great service

By Megan A |

My sister recently drank a bottle of Pessimist red blend by Daou, which is available at retailers such as Total Wine, and she wanted to ensure we included this winery on our itinerary. Other than having had Daou’s widely distributed Cab Sauvignon at restaurants, I wasn’t all that familiar with the winery or its offerings. All of us had no expectations, so imagine our surprise when we drove more than 2,200 feet in elevation and arrived at a beautiful winery that practically sits above the clouds, offering panoramic views of the valley.

You can opt to taste at the tasting bar, have a sit-down tasting on the patio, which we opted to do, buy a bottle and enjoy the views from the many sitting areas on the property, or do a little of everything. If you are looking to enjoy several hours at one winery, this is the place, particularly since they have delectable cheese plates and other menu offerings.

This winery is a splurge, with the terrace tasting being $40, but it’s worth every penny. Our fave was the Eye of the Falcon. The addition of Petit Verdot gives the wine an inky, rich color and adds a velvety texture that creates a uniquely complex Cab.

Fantastic views

By KB9MNN |

The views from the top of the hill are fantastic. You ca see for miles. They have a nice tasting room but the best part of the place is the restaurant and food/wine available (we will partake next visit). Staff was very friendly, more so than many Napa wineries, and were glad to offer advice and assistance.
This is an afternoon trip and one should arrange for transportation to get home on the winding roads after the wine.

Who needs Italy?!

By Yvonne S |

What a wonderful view, winery, restaurant, and experience!!
The wines are robust and flavourful. The pizza tastes like it's right out of Italy and the service is efficient, friendly and engaging. It's a little pricey but far less expensive than a trip to Italy.

Beautiful view

By Mark L |

Arrived around noon. A nice young women asked if we wanted to be seated inside or outside. We chose outside. We were seated on couches over looking the hills and valleys very nice. We tasted a very good Chardonnay to start followed by four more of there premium reds. We also ordered a charcuterie plate as we tasted. After tasting we ordered lunch. Our wine server said this is for wine club members but will see if it can be done. Yes it was ordered along with a bottle of estate Cabernet. Very nice lunch very nice wine worth the drive. It did get cold so bring a jacket or ask for a blanket.

Don't waste your time. There are better and less expensive wineries.

By Bob B |

When one drives up to Daou winery, you are told to park in a lower lot, about 1 mile away. You then wait for a shuttle, and they only have one shuttle, so it is not a short wait. When you do get your ride to the top of the hill, you see a very nice, crowded (why would they come here?) tasting room and large outside patio area. Wine tasting is $40!!!. The most anyone else charges is $20. Daou claims one pays the high price because of the wine quality. There are many, many wineries with better wine. When you leave, you wait 20-30 minutes for the shuttle to take you back to your car. (We declined the tasting and walked down the hill to the car, rather than wait)

Not To Be Missed

By vlfrahm |

Am I in Tuscany or California!?! The view from the top of the mountain is so beautiful and reminded me of Tuscany to a degree. Since this was my first time in Paso Robles I wasn’t familiar with the making reservations for a tasting. After visiting Daou I understood.

What a change it is to have a tasting sitting at a table instead of lining up at a bar. The personal one-on-one service was extraordinary. I enjoyed that as part of the tasting was a pairing also. Duck prosciutto, prosciutto wrapped around cheese, and so much more.

While it may be a little higher price for a tasting, it so well worth it. Our tasting took about 2 hours. They don’t rush you since they want you to enjoy their wine. Take the time, make a reservation and enjoy.

Stay away

By andrea |

Typical American red herring.
The prices are disproportionate for the quality although some wines are good.
The problem is that a minimum amount of preparation is needed for those who work there, there will be more than 20 guys working there, not even one trained in either service or hospitality. Worse managed than a bar in Caracas.
With all the excellent wineries nearby, this one is best avoided

Amazing views and visit!

By SportsMama |

We made a quick stop(ok actually a 9 hr detour😉) to Paso Robles on our way to the beach since our May trip was canceled. The view is breathtaking and the wines and food are so delicious! We are members of Daou and frequently enjoy Daou wine at home(especially with Covid and 4 kids) but drinking it on their property was so much better! We had an amazing visit and can’t wait to come back without the kids (and hopefully without masks) Thank you Daou for the wonderful hospitality!! We can’t wait to come back!!

Incredible wines and food pairings, spoil yourself just once and pay the price, for this is like no other winery.

By Michael B |

The Daou Vineyard estate is just a 20 minutes’ drive west from downtown Paso Robles. Situated on a hilltop, this picturesque winery with its Italian Style facade has amazing views for miles around. Not only do they have an inside tasting room, but offer tastings, pairings & picnics on extensive outside grounds.
We chose to sit outside on the peaceful grounds under a large umbrella, while our waitress presented various wines for our approval, and with great enthusiasm told us about the interesting French Lebanese history of the Daou brothers.
Can recommend a couple of reds, the Seventeen forty was very smooth, as was the 2018 Eye of the falcon.
Just sitting in the sun on a pleasant fall afternoon drinking red wine with friends, and admiring the incredible views of the surrounding countryside, was pure magic.
We even tried the onyx mezze charcuterie, while waiting for our lunch to arrive.
When leaving our hostess took us up to the top of the belltower, to admire the 360’ view of the surrounding countryside.
Thank you Daou for your hospitality.
TIP: When visiting Paso Robles or any wineries on the central coast. Suggest coming in off the pacific coast highway as that is a very picturesque drive.
Thanks for reading. would appreciate a thumbs up if you’ve found this helpful.

Incredible views and wine

By winelady0605 |

This is what you call an EXPERIENCE. You can visit many places but very few like this are an experience. The view is outstanding, the customer service impeccable and the wines are exquisite! You can experience the wines out on the veranda, where they will serve you your tastings, unlike many other places where you stand at the tasting bar. They offered us a few extra tastings, and lap blankets as it was getting cool. A place you can truly enjoy your wine and the view from the mountain top. A must for those who appreciate excellent award-winning wines and life experiences!

Most impressive view in Paso Robles

By LTlorie |

The first thing you notice about DAOU Vineyards is the view. Such a glorious view from the hill top where the tasting room & restaurant are located.
Wines are very good, food is excellent. A little more pricey, the most expensive that we encountered in our two day stay in Paso Robles, but I guess you will get what you pay for.
Very popular so make reservations before you go on a weekend.
Would have given the experience a 5 Star review if the staff had not been so very pretentious and service wasn’t that attentive.
Soul of the Lion is an amazing wine glad we got multiple bottles & joined the wine club in order to get a better price per bottle.

Amazing experience!

By John D |

We came here as a family to check this off the bucket list... I love Daou wines! They were very accommodating to our young kids (6 and 4) and gave us the VIP treatment. We booked a couple of days before, so the best option was lunch. The food was incredible! Wines were as good or better than I expected and the views were awesome! This is a must do in Paso Robles!

We had tasted their wine but never visited the Daou Vineyard. Wow! Spectacular location on top of mountain, beautiful facilities and well trained staff. We had a beautiful seated tasting for 6 with view of the valley. Amanda took great care of us explaining the history of vineyards and wines. We had a beautiful Mezzo platter and a lovely afternoon. 2 of us joined the wine club on the spot.

A-MAZ-ING!!!

By Dakzoo |

My fiancé and I visited this vineyard on a recommendation and it was the absolute highlight of our day of wine tasting in Paso Robles area. Sitting on the veranda overlooking the valley while sharing a bottle of Daou Rose was a gift from God!! If you visit no other winery visit this one and allow yourself enough time to simply take in the beauty!

FYI - the wine tasting is a bit steep in cost compared to other wineries - $40 - but we purchased a bottle of the Rose for $38 and it was PERFECT!

Culture of turning customers away. Very Arrogant.

By Sonya |

Turned away by the security guard at front entrance at the bottom of the hill for wine tasting for me and my husband. Very surprised! Very stuffy winery. Be prepared. Would have loved to try and possibly become a member but after this experience will not buy Daou. A lot of other better wineries in the area with great service!

Atop of the wine World of Paso Robles lies a vineyard that sits on Zeus’s Cloud, Daou Vineyard. They oversee the Paso Robles valley and hold a deity’s post.

The experience is perfected with all aspects of the hospitality, customer service, cuisine, and the crowning wine.

A dedicated search to find an anomaly of wine found a vineyard pure and true. Pure in its focus and true in its Love for Wine and Family (Mama and Papa). It is through this Love, one that arrays the vineyard in decoration and story, so as to permeate your experience to that of a demi-god.

Empowered with the zeal of the Proprietor, our host, Evan Taylor, shared a passion and expertise in his field that could only be attributed to divine grace. As he related the story of the Dauo brothers, Georges and Daniel (God’s Favor), and embraced us with their Mother’s Love and her enrichment to their lives, as well as the lessons of hard work from their Father. Through the impact of the Love they received, we experienced the glory of the family as a whole.

Evan relayed to us the history, the enchantment, and the Love that created this Mecca. Our astute host read the story of the wine and the marriage it enjoyed with the regal cuisine it was paired with (our devoted awe to the Chef), a celestial meal.

Our esteemed host, Evan, was a professor of history on every aspect of the wine. Having been entreated to numerous appointment only vineyards in Napa, it was only upon Zeus’s Cloud that I came to enjoy professionalism of Evan’s caliber. May his name hold reverence to his position as well.

To enjoin a force so omnipotent and to delight in the wares from their table still has me awe struck. The scallops were presented from Poseidon and the power of the Sea attracted the those vegetables from the local earth that the sea had fertilized from centuries past allowing the Oceanic King to select only the best for The table on Zeus’s Cloud.

Not to be outdone, Artemis, gathered the best bounty of wildlife and we feasted on Succulent pork that cut with a spoon adorned in all its glory via the cornucopia of vegetables gathered according to Poseidon’s direction.

The duck was akin to the golden goose as the delicacy, savory flavor, and prepared masterfully! Adorned as the rest of the main courses with the bounty of the Earth’s decadent soil, we feasted Regally.

All this grandeur culminated with a fitting end, Flawless Macaroons made with white chocolate so blissful that one felt baptized by the blissful taste.

An immortal experience that originated with the Love of Family, a Mother’s affection, and the reciprocal appreciation these two brothers have shared to all who entreat themselves to this epic experience on Zeus’s Cloud.

Amazing location, tasting room and views. Gets busy, so make a reservation, but their wine is sensational

Gorgeous Views/ Wines so-so

By Debs |

Booked this winery weeks before visit . The grounds and the views are outrageous! Delightful staff , very on top of it and their service . Problem was ... every wine has such great potential.... and is so over-oaked. Can’t even taste the wine . Prices also were high for the product . We drink a lot of good wine , and this is just fair . Go for the views !

Impromptu visit was the best of our trip

By heatherstravel |

Kevin was most excellent in his education of each wine, history of the vineyard, and stories of the owners. Wine was spectacular, unique, and the entire experience unsurpassable.

I Can See For Miles

By LaTourMimi |

Come for the view, stay for the wine and cheese. Amazing location with the most commanding view I’ve found in Paso Robles. Built in 2011, this stunning mix of California and modern design is a beautiful place to chill for a long while, or warm by either the indoor or outdoor fireplace. Dog friendly too. Don’t miss this location, and save us a seat, as we’ll assuredly be back!!

Amazing views & great service from Zoey!

By Paris93308 |

You can not beat the views from Daou Winery of Paso Robles! Had 10:45 appointment and sat outside. It was a little cool - but they have blankets. Zoey was our wine expert/server and she was friendly and knowledgeable! Did not plan on becoming a member, but enjoyed most of the wines so now we are! Highly recommend going!

Much more than a beautiful view

By Camila R |

We decided to make a quick pass before continuing our journey. It was Sunday, summer, we didn't have a reservation, but still they did everything to meet us. We sat at the bar and tasted delicious wines, even we were given to taste wines that were outside the program. The staff were very attentive, smiling and did everything to have a great experience. The wines surprised me. Celebrates a table of colds that was delicious, good quality items. The place is famous for the view, which is really stunning. It's worth the experience!

A Perfect Afternoon!

By renalrully |

We visited Daou recently on a Saturday afternoon and it was perfection! It is a beautiful location, the wine is excellent and the service was exceptional (thanks Jessie!). We toured the grounds, heard the history and tasted wine all afternoon. Jessie was charming, knowledgeable and extremely attentive. We also enjoyed a top-notch charcuterie and cheese board. If you are in Paso Robles, you must visit. You will not be disappointed.

Wine Tasting

By Steven P |

Pulling up to the vineyard it was so beautiful. When we walked into the tasting room we were greeted with by nice staff. At the tasting bar Mary assisted us and she was delightful. She gave us the background on the vintages. The wines were delicious, they were pricey but the quality to price was perfect. The views from the tasting room and dining area was phenomenal.

Come for the wine stay for the views!!

By Nancy R |

Fabulous wine, tasting full of wines you can’t get anywhere else! Grounds are gorgeous!! Service is fabulous!!! Included a wooden box with three bottle purchase for memories!

Amazing views and vintage

By Carolyn T |

What a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the gorgeous vineyards and a fabulous glass or bottle of wine! By far my favorite Paso winery!

Great wines!

By chris z |

Did the tasting here. The wines are great. The views from the top are awesome. Definitely worth spending some time just looking. The service was off the charts! We are going back again.

Excellent service, high quality wine, beautiful location

By Just Joe |

All around a beautiful, classy, high-quality experience. We made reservations for a tasting and when we arrived we were warmly greeted and escorted to a beautiful seating outdoors overlooking the valley. Sarah treated us extremely well throughout our afternoon there, made us feel very welcome, was very professional and knowledgeable, and attended to all of our interests. The site is beautiful with comfortable stuffed chairs overlooking their gorgeous landscaping and a 360 degree view atop the mountain. The drive to and from is scenic, their wine is of the highest quality. We really enjoyed their Cabs (Soul of a Lion) and their 100% Cab Franc is amazing. Thanks again to Sarah for everything, looking forward to returning. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Wow, what a view!

By BRITTNEY B |

Beautiful winery! Definitely more of a luxury and the bill shows it, but in my honest opinion, definitely worth every penny! We can’t wait to visit again. Very nice staff, charcuterie board was amazing, and the wines are so tasty! So many more options than what are available in local stores so it was great to be able to taste.

A Perfect Afternoon in Paso

By canj01 |

I have been a fan of Daou cabs for a few years and our recent visit to the vineyard surpassed all expectations. The short drive from downtown Paso Robles was lit up with autumn colors and beautiful winding roads. The vineyard is located at a high elevation with stellar views. Tastings are conducted in a very nice tasting room and an outside covered terrace with comfortable seating and tables large enough to accommodate a party of eight. Daou estate wines including a number of very interesting red blends which are excellent. The generous charcuterie/cheese/fruit platter was gorgeous and a great accompaniment for the tasting. Kudos to Oscar, our wine ambassador who curated the wines, the land and their philosophy with great passion and energy. Reservations are helpful for larger groups. If you only have time to visit one vineyard in Paso, Daou is definitely the one to experience! Top notch.

Beautiful winery, excellent wines.

By Carol F. |

Google searches list Daou as one of the top 10 wineries in the Paso Robles area. Though we had enjoyed their wine one time in the past, we really didn't know anything about their wines or the property. We pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the winery, the grounds and tasting room are really beautiful. It's the kind of place where you want to linger with amazing views.

Great introduction to Paso Robles wineries

By Darryl K |

Brought my sister and niece to their first Cali wine tasting - blown away by the wine, service and views. Must do in Paso.

Absolutely amazing views and very good wine

By sheilaoc |

We greatly enjoyed the wine but the atmosphere and views are what really make the place. Our host, Alexandra (?) was spectacular! Very good food as well. I agree that it’s fairly pricey, so if that’s an issue, just don’t go. It’s well worth the money if you have it to spend

A tasting and lunch

By ella052 |

Last weekend my husband and I visited the winery for a tasting and lunch. The lunch was amazing. The pairing of a wine with it was equally as good. We tasted five delicious wine. But at $40 we found the experience to be a little bit pricey. The view however, from the Adirondack chairs, was priceless. If you’re ready for a real splurge I highly recommend this place.

Absolutely beautiful AND great wines!

By Muppet_Boyz |

Amazing Estate wines served as part of the tasting. Yes, it was a bit more expensive, but well worth it! It was awesome to sit and enjoy the views with a bottle of the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Strong service.

DAOU is the best vineyard experience bar none

By customerknowsbest |

Once you go to a tasting here, every other tasting in your life will pale. A tasting at DAOU is truly a multi-sensory event. The view is spectacular, the knowledge of the staff is superior and the wines are extraordinary. Paired with elegant food options it is both a culinary and wine experience worth repeating. Shout out to Yhasheua Rubio our wine educator who put heart and meaning to this wine, family and vineyard. We will be back.

Incredible Wine Tasting with views

By John R |

The entrance with large wooden doors is very inviting as is the circular bar with tables around and in private rooms. Umbrellas on large tables outside and private verandas for special tasting events, all overlooking the mountains and hills below. Carlee Neenan was our host for the tasting and she knew everything you wanted to know about Daou and its competitors too. Chardonnay is full bodied, crisp and great nose. The Cabernate's are excellent hearty, smooth and a lasting after, full of flavor. "Soul of a Lion" is a must to taste and buy as are the Chardonnay's. Make a reservation in advance. Also have some fresh bread or one of their fantastic Charcuterie Boards. Cheers and Enjoy

Incredible Wine with Amazing Views

By SCHRAMZ |

The location atop a mountain is spectacular, this trip is worth making just for the views. Happily, the wine was excellent! The experience was enhanced by our server Oriana, who ably fielded our questions. We’ve visited many wineries throughout California and this ranks as one of the best.

Gorgeous views , fabulous Bordeaux style wines :)

By Interprid Traveler |

I can see why customer experience makes a huge difference. Probably, others had a bad time but for us it was heavenly. We were hosted by Sarah (with an H:)) and she made our experience even more beautiful. Wines were okay. Some stood out and overall not disappointed at all. Had a fabulous time. The views , oh my , the views - best ever I have seen for a vineyard. Totally worth a visit

Great for Enjoying the View

By paso57 |

Four of us took advantage of great weather and chose to enjoy great views, wine, and a very tasty cheese / charcuterie board from Daou. The vibe could not have been better. Although the wine is on the pricy side, the setting, the cheese/charcuterie and service were really excellent - the combination was worth the price paid and we would gladly do it again.

Stunning views

By PR_Bride |

Went to Daou because we already like the wines you can find a local retailers, but mostly because we heard the view was amazing. We did not have a reservation, so showed up soon after it opened. It was a Saturday and all the tables were reserved, but we were guided to a spot at the inside counter and had an attentive staff member guide us through their tasting. What I really liked was that she asked if we wanted to share and didn't make us feel 'cheap' for doing so. We just did the standard tasting.

I was hoping for more from the wines, but I think they were all too young, really. We had a couple that probably would have been fantastic in a year or two, but were just good now. Probably if we forked out for a fancier tasting option the wines would have been almost as great as the view.

Our guide let us wander the grounds while we finished off an extra pour of what we liked best, and wow - that view! We paid for our tasting and she gave us a suggestion for another winery close by she thought we might like based on our comments while sipping the Daou wines. So appreciated that!

Go for the view and be prepared to pay a premium for even the standard tasting, but at least in our experience, this was a classy outfit and we were treated well. Go early or make a reservation if you want a table, if it's a weekend or holiday.

Sensational in every way, but get reservations

By 271diane |

While visiting Paso Robles we had the pleasure of having lunch at Daou Vineyards. Our charcuterie plate was delicious and the wines did not disappoint. Be sure to make reservations if you plan to go. It's worth the drive up the mountain. And be sure to ask for Lauren as your server. She made our visit even more special!

Skip..Over Priced but Best View

By StacisWanderlust |

This is WAY over priced for the experience! Way way over priced!! It does have a really nice view but we had reservations and tasted the high end wines...which were subpar.

Perfect Day at Daou

By StevenJOak |

The winery is beautiful and our server Chasen was very knowledgeable and attentive. The view here is over the top and the wines are excellent. Thank you for a special day.

Terrific

By CaPalm |

We've gone with friends who are wine club members and had great lunches on 3 separate occasions. The charcuterie platter is huge and pairs wonderfully especially with their BIG reds...beautiful facility and a staff that seems to genuinely enjoy their jobs!

When can we move in?

By Debra M |

Daou has the most spectacular views of vineyard I have seen other than near Jerez, Spain. this is my dream terrace with view - and the indoor tasting area is also beautiful. The fact that the wines are really good is a bonus. Definitely book a table tasting and order a sharing plate - the four of us were having such a great time and enjoying the wines so much almost three hours had passed before we knew it! We ended up having wine shipped since it is such a pain to try to fly with even one bottle in your luggage, much less 6 or more! Just wish we could buy these easily back home - oh well, perfect excuse for another visit!

So disappointed as members.

By Wanderer55829358289 |

We are members of Daou so very excited to finally gets to experience a tasting. The view is always amazing there but the customer service needs help. At most wineries if a member you are treated very well. Here we felt like every other tourist there tasting. We ordered the cheese board which was nice but they didn’t tell us what everything was. Pours are small and when we asked for an extra one it was so very small. We are canceling our membership today. To many other great wines in this area that still care about their wine lovers

Spectacular views.

By Marlene F |

My husband and I visited the winery because I had tasted their wine named "Pessimist".
We were enchanted by the view, the ambience and the great customer service we received. Bree was our server and was very knowledgeable about the wine. We had a great conversation with her. The tasting was delicious and the bacon wrapped dates were exquisite. The winery is well worth a visit as the scenery is breathtaking and the wine is fabulous.

Worth the high prices!

By Fay M |

Our first visit to a Paso Robles Winery was here, and it proven to be unmatched for view and decor. We each had a wine tasting and split a cheese board sitting outside close to the fire place. The wine was very good, and the cheese, meat, olives, and other rimes on the cheese plate were close to extraordinary. Our server recommended certain pairings of food and wine, and she was right on the mark with her suggestions. It is very pricey-$40 per tasting-but sometimes you get what you py for!

The perfect package

By ljllevano |

From start to finish a top notch experience. Beautiful drive from San Luis Obispo to the DAOU Vineyards for our scheduled 3:15 tasting (recommended if you want to ensure access). A greeter checks us in before we drive up to the tasting room. Once parked at the top of the hill at the tasting room you are struck with stunning 180* views of the surrounding vineyards and hillsides extending for miles. A receptionist checks us in and we are given a choice of seating locations, this time of day and year outside was best. Everything about the location is tasteful and casually elegant. A menu at each table outlines the wines being tasted for the day, food options should you choose to want some (which we did and thoroughly enjoyed!), wines available for sale and finally, wine club membership options. Our host Lisa guided us through the full DAOU wine and food experience at a relaxed pace allowing us to enjoy the tasty treats and take in the amazing views. Start to finish we we there over two hours and so impressed with the experience and wines that we left with 6 bottles of wine and as a new club member!

Amazing experience!

By park |

This is a must if you are in the area. Beautiful grounds, tasty snacks and delicious wine. Situated practically on top of a mountain surrounded by miles of vineyards. Gorgeous!!!!

You'll want to spend hours

By Tracy Q |

We came for a tasting and booked a pairing for another day. Everyone friendly, smiling, great customer service and knowledge of their product. After a tour of the area, the best property we visited. "The castle on the hill."

Lovely winery. Beautiful view

By Donna R |

My husband and I read some nice reviews for this vineyard so we decided to make a stop here. We’re happy we did. The view was beautiful on the terrace. It was a bit chilly but our host sat us by the electric heater and gave us blankets to keep us warm. We enjoyed some wine and a lovely plate of assorted meats. It was a weekday morning so it was relatively quiet. I’d say it’s a view worth experiencing for sure.

Wine tasting and charcuterie pairing.

By pnwild562 |

Incredible experience, enhanced by the beautiful scenery and the knowledgeable Alejandro, our pairing host. I highly recommend this if you are in the region. The drive on the way to the vineyard is really beautiful.

Wow!

By Randy K |

On our first day of vacation we visited Daou. It was so good we cam back again on our last day of vacation. The wines are truly superior to others in the area. The service was exceptional. We also did food pairings at each visit and the food was fabulous. This place is so much more than just a wine tasting. It was truly an immersive experience.

Amazing Views come with a Price

By DHB |

This was a stop on the way, to celebrate our anniversary. The views and landscaping is very nice! However, the wine tasting for $40.00 and the over priced appetizers are a bit much! We found great food at other wineries for less. They are ridiculous with their pricing, but the winery is nice! We wanted to stay longer and purchase a bottle, but they did not have the CO2 or any system in place to recork, so wine would stay fresh. If it's going to be expensive, something should be provided to keep the wine.

Horrible waiter!

By Karolin9600 |

The location, views and architecture hands down, the best in Paso. Unfortunately the service/service “Victor” if I recall, wasn’t as memorable. After asking for five minutes to review the menu, he just never came back. He walked by our table multiple times to service the two tables behind us, but completely ignored us. We left and went to another winery. Very pretentious waiter and unfortunate experience. Absolutely not worth being treated this way for $50 pp tasting plus food.

Still one of the best in Paso!

By ataraxis |

I wrote a review for our 2016 (first) visit, and wanted to circle back and review our 2017 and 2018 visits. Daou of course still has the best views in Paso, and in my opinion the best tasting room. Everything is just top notch, including the wine and the expanded food selections. They also expanded their patio seating down the hill more in 2017 or 2018.

Unfortunately for us for the last two years visits they were all out of their white wines except for the Reserve Chardonnay! I can't help but think I was partly responsible for this due to my 2016 visit review. I really hope when we visit in a couple of weeks they have their Chemin and their Grenache Blanc available. If anyone at Daou is reading this can you please hold a bottle of Chemin for us? :?)

During the 2018 visit I splurged and bought a glass of Soul of a Lion. While this was an amazing red, I am not sure it was worth the $31 a glass I paid. I am still a huge fan of their white wines though.

This is another must visit winery for us on Vineyard Drive. We will return every time we visit Paso Robles.

Great Winery Tasting

By OaksSGM |

Unbelievable time spent at DAOU. The drive up to the mountain top was fun in itself, but once we got there we were treated like we were the only ones there (we weren't!). Our hostess, Linda, gave us insight on the different varieties of wine, from Rose to a rich Cabernet as she served them while we sat cliff side looking out at the vineyards and a neighboring walnut tree farm. If we are back in the area, we will return.

Incredible service and vistas

By Yo Giacomo |

This is an amazing location and certainly worth a visit. Their wines are excellent, but on our budget challenging. Their food selection is excellent and the whole experience was very worthwhile.

Amazing property

By David D |

Of all the wine areas I have visited I have never seen a property situated in a more picturesque setting. The property is breathtaking. The wine and serve are very good as well. Only drawback to this vineyard is the $40 per person tasting fee which was excessively high. That said it was a high end and high quality experience.

Incredible Views and Staff

By Scott G |

What a great place....highly recommend if you are in Paso. We had a wonderful table for two overlooking incredible views. Camille to such good care of us, guiding us through the wonderful wines and sharing insights and education along the way. The wines were beautiful, from the Rose’ we started with to the Soul of the Lion as a finish......or so we thought....and then we were given the opportunity to try the dessert wine. The tasting room manager even checked in with us a couple of times to make sure our day was going great. What a great experience! Highly recommend Daou....and if you are fortunate, you will get to taste with Camille.

Fantastic experience, awesome wines

By DiverDan88 |

We were familiar with Daou wines before the visit, but it was quite an experience to be there with gorgeous views and great set up. We had some light food and did the tasting.
Our host Alejandro was outstanding and made the experience an unforgettable one. Thank you Alejandro!
The views from the top of the hill reminded us of Tuscany. Great to relax with a nice glass of wine enjoying the views.

What a view!!!

By Matt T |

Love Daou wine anyways. But put yourself in a comfortable chair overlooking the whole Paso Robles valleys drinking the stuff, and that's a winner for an afternoon.

Warm but doable, given the location and breezes.

By Reed W |

Really nice experience with panoramic views of the costal hills and mountains. 95° day had a constant breeze that kept us comfortable. Dog friendly. Preferred the red wines, mostly “Unbound”, over the white offerings.

Just wow

By Volker L |

Anyone that thinks Napa is a must , DAOU IN PASO ROBLES, is an absolute must go destination
What a fantastic property with the most awesome wines and great hospitality
We can’t wait to go back

Wonderful Wine, Spectacular View

By Rob H |

This vineyard perched on one of the highest points on the west side of Paso has magnificent wines and a very engaging staff. I recommend it for a leisurely afternoon sipping and enjoying the view.
