1 of 66 Best Attractions in Death Valley National Park

Beautiful view of Death Valley. Great overlook of the entire valley. This is also where a famous scene in the original 1977 Star Wars movie was filmed. Luke and Ben look out upon the valley, which Mos Eisley in the distance, and Ben says: "never will find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." In all honesty, I went for the Star Wars, but I stayed for the view. It is worth a visit.

Death Valley is amazing, beauty everywhere, the weather was cloudy and slight showers, so we did not go to Dante's View.

It was worth the drive from Lone Pine, CA. The drive gave us perspective into just how vast and forbidding this area is and yet how beautiful such a landscape can be.

It takes a little driving to get up to this point, but the views are spectacular. Could sit up here all day. There are a couple of short hiking trails from the parking lot to get different views.

Worth the drive to get to the lookout. This was our first stop in Death Valley and it was awesome to get a grand overview of the park. And seeing Badwater Basin from up above was incredible.

This is one of the highest viewpoint overlooking the valley, and the easiest one to drive to. You get a great sense of the scale of the national park and a view of a lot of the best features. Definitely worth the drive.

You go up, up, up to look down into the lowest spot in North America. Don't forget tom look across at Telescope Peak, which is over 12,000 feet above the depths of the Valley. Remarkable.

This is where Obi one and Luke stand overlooking the valley before meeting up with Han Solo in Star Wars 4.
Now Sci Fi aside this give you a breathtaking view of death valley below and the Salts flats.
This is a must see.
The drive up is on a nice paved road and has the song goes "It's a long long road with many a winding turns" There are toilets just before reaching the parking area. There a nice trail off to the side of the parking well worth the 15 minwalk to get a great view and oportunity for memorable pictures.

Early morning - just after sunrise - Stunning View
The panorama is exceptional and in the morning you could see 100 of miles.
Watch out the bees or type of we going back into your car...... they are everywhere.

Long rambling 12 mile drive, very scenic and relaxing. The last quarter mile a bit terrifying. Worth it.

From Stovepipe Wells, where we stayed, the drive to Dante's view is about 50 miles on paved road. It's worth it, though. Breathtaking view you can see from the parking lot. You don't have to hike.

We drove to this lookout in early October and were incredibly impressed with the panoramic view of Badwater Basin and the Panamints. It's at about 5500' elevation, and the temp was around 54F at the viewpoint, with high winds, while we were there (with high 80s at sea level). Gorgeous scenery!

Long drive in and out is worth the vista. Immediately above Badwater Basin (lowest point in the park) gives interesting and contrasting perspective to the salt flats far below (5000 ft) down the rugged cliffs. With good luck, the distant peaks will be snow clad.

This was a surprisingly breath taking view. I wasnāt sure what to expect but the sheer vastness and drop at the viewing location was incredible

Our last stop at Death Valley at Danteās View provided the best view of our visit. A steep uphill drive leads to a viewing platform just alongside the ample car park. The views of the salt flats and the valley are awesome and you can walk a bit down along the ridge for slightly different views as well. A good place for some panorama shots.

Just an amazing valley, with such a dramatic drop from the mountains to the salt lake, yet so colourful despite the barrenness. Didnāt have many visitors though (itās a bit of a drive but a good sealed road) so was nice and quiet and you can walk out along a ridge for a while. It was much colder than in the valley so be prepared in order to enjoy it.

Dante's view at 5,476 feet high above the Badwater Basin is just 16 miles south of Furnace Creek Visitor center. After an 1 hour and 45 minute drive from Las Vegas, I finally arrived at Dante's View named after the Dante Alighieri who famously wrote "Divina Commedia".
The road from Furnace Creek is paved as is the pull-out for Dante's View. Once at the pull-out there are trail options. One option leads you to the brink of the edge of the terrace with dramatic panoramic views and the other leads to 350 yard walk to a rest area with picnic tables.. Morning is a good time to visit with the volcanic formed Black Mountains are cast in a photographic light. In the summer temperatures can be in the 90's at 10 am and 100 + on the Badwater basin floor which is 282' below sea level.. Winter can be very cold and windy. Spring and Fall are the ideal times to visit Death Valley.
Dante's View was the film location for the 1977 "Star Wrs" movie. The scene shot here was when the characters in the movie overlooked the fictional Tatoonie spaceport of Mos Eisley which was projected in the background.

Follow the signs, drive to the pull-off and get ready to look over the edge of the world. The view of Death Valley goes on and on and on. The salt flats are a blistering white among the sand, earth and rock shades and a smattering of green on the cliffs. You can follow a narrow uneven dirt trail that takes you a short distance to another viewpoint. It involves some climbing so not suggested if you have mobility issues. Seeing from above gives you a sense of the scale of the desert and the park - over 3 million acres. You may need more than one day to see it all but this is great place to start.

This was a long and winding road but weāll worth the trip. Weād have stayed longer but hadnāt realized how cold it would be there! From this vantage point you can really see the valley spread out before you.

The best view in Death Valley. A visit up here is definitely worth the effort. Once in a lifetime pictures. The National Parks in USA are brilliant: download their app. Death Valley is great. We didnāt have time to stay in the resort here but wish we had factored it in because it looked great.

As my title of my topic suggests.. best way of enjoying nature without paying a single cent. Expect crowds.

Having traveled to Death Valley before, we ran out of time and missed this panorama of the Valley. This time, we made it our first stop and the pictures tell the story.
Next time, we will park our butts in a chair, and spend at least a few hours, if not the entire day.

Just a short drive off of the highway, Dante's View is a great panoramic spot to view the Badwater Basin/Death Valley area. On a clear day you can see it all. Unfortunately, on the day of my visit smoke from the California wildfires obstructed most of the view. It was till worth the drive up to the point.

This is a cool drive if you have a sporty car. At the top, steep and hairpin turns.
The view is absolutely spectacular. You don't have to hike at all to see a LOT of the valley but there is a relatively short but steep and rocky hike to see even more.
Signs on the way clearly state NOT to take trailer or mobile home but that didn't seem to stop some people.

View Point on Death Valley, easily accessible by a detour from the main road. It is definitely worth a visit because the view of the hell of the valley, the salt plain of the Badwater basin and the surrounding mountains is truly breathtaking!

Beautiful 360* view of Death Valley. We went in Decemeber and it was cold. Cannot wait to go there during the Spring to view the stars.

Dante's View is a 13 mile drive off the main road up to 5500 feet. From there you can get a view of the entire valley and a sense of what it was like when the rivers were flowing thousands of years ago. It is quite cold up there, so bring a jacket.

First time in Death Valley with my wife. Came to see the sand dunes but made a few more stops.
After being in the basin we decided to drive up on the way back out of the park to Vegas. We are not āsceneryā type people but WOW.
The view from up there is incredible. We donāt mountain explore but this is like nothing Iāve ever seen before. Itās maybe a winding 30 minute drive off of CA 190 and certainly worth the time. Itās a paved parking area at the top with vault restroom just below. All seems to be handicap accessible.
Be aware the temp in the basin was 71 and up the mountain it was 46 and very breezy! I would be careful going up in any rain. There seemed to be areas on the way up that would flood the road.
The only thing that seemed odd was there was still remnants of a car burning in the parking lot. Pieces of glass and a few car parts were still there. That would be a terrible place to blow a tire so Iām not sure why the tow company or park staff left it like that.

The drive might seem quite long, this is a must do for a superb view of the valley and itās surrounding mountains. Itās a little cooler up here too.

Worth the detour. It gives a great panoramic view of the Death Valley. We were in late March, keep in mind it is quite higher up and was considerably colder and windier than the valley floor. You can walk a bit around and get some good shots depending on visibility. Road is all paved, but end has a decent incline (but no issue).

As the title says, the view is spectacular. It is a short drive from the park center and mornings are very nice.

It is so hard to explain in words the feeling you experience! Just go and visit this place! Breathtaking!

We drove up to Dante's View when we visited Death Valley. My son and I enjoyed the drive. It does take some time because it is a winding road, and near the top it gets pretty steep. I think it is about a 15% grade right at the top near the parking lot. We visited in May and the temperature in the valley was about 75 degrees. The temperature at Dante's View was about 53 degrees so there was more than a 20 degree difference. The elevation at Dante's View is more than 5,000 feet above the valley floor and the views are spectacular. You can look down on the salt flats and see peaks on the other side of the valley.
Also a note that this is a basic location that a scene from Star Wars: A New Hope was filmed. The scene where Obi Wan, Luke, and the droids look down on Mos Eisley Space Port. If you are a fan of the movies you will find the view familiar.
I highly recommend taking the time to drive up and see the beautiful views from Dante's View.

We watched the sunrise on a clear spring morning. Itās was as awe inspiring as anyone could hope for. The trip from the Ranch/ Visitors center takes about 40 minutes.

So driving through the hottest place on earth during the summer surely sounds questionable before you get started. However see the Valley and particularly Danteās View (which takes very little extra time), shows views of Death Valley that one has only heard about in books and movies. Somehow the views of āDeathā are quite beautiful. If you are lucky like we were, you will catch it on a day with a thunderstorm. Watching lighting and rai from miles away and watching it approach you is beyond words.
Take the detour!

Although I have traveled all over the world, this scenic view was unlike any other. At about 5000 ft above sea level, this overlook lets you see the entire Death Valley. Since it was a clear day, I was able to see mountains 20 miles away. There was also an option for an eight-mile hike. Even though I didn't do it, I still enjoyed the simply spectacular sights.

Just drive cautiously as you approach top of mountain.
New lookout completed 2018 and itās done very well.
Look out and enjoy view as you wonāt see it anywhere else.
Very windy on our visit requiring a good wind breaker or you will be sitting in your car.
Careful on way down!

One of the most magnificent views you can experience in the United States. You can just drive up into the parking lot and be treated to an astonishing vista that stretches for miles on the western side of the parking lot. Just a short walk from the parking lot is an unmarked trailhead that you can take for a hike and we highly recommend this experience if you are up to the task and have a few hours. The views become even more magnificent and an additional view opens up on the eastern side that is nearly as spectacular. The trail runs the spine of the mountain, about 4 miles in one direction. Of course, you can turn around whenever you so choose. The hike will enhance your experience if youāve already made the decision to drive up to this area. Hiking Dante's View was the highlight of our recent Death Valley trip.

A 12 mile drive on Dantes View Road brings you to a breathtaking viewpoint over 5,000 feet above Death Valley. The view is a short walk from your vehicle and there is an ADA accessible viewing platform.

You have to be there to believe it. Words can not do justice to this place. Well this can be described as a canvas of an artist.

Busy on weekends as the tourist from Vegas come over get there early or during the week. Get there during late winter or spring to beat the heat

Hot hot hot. But o so beautiful. From sea to shing sea. Wonderful day. Dantes View is not to be missed. A special place on earth. The 360 degree views are worth the drive. Wonderful park.

If you are not afraid of the climbing percentage, then you should definitely visit this place. You have amazing views of the valley. It can be rather windy and chilly up there.

We went in July 2020 around 8am.
Danteās view is amazing and provides one of the best views of Badwater basin. It should be the first stop if you enter the park through Death Valley Junction.
On the other hand beware of bees !! There were plenty of them at the Danteās view and after we parked our car, lots of then managed to get inside our car through the A/C and the windows (they were attracted by the smell of the A/C and the freshness inside of the car) !
It was a nightmare to get rid of them...

We stayed in Death Valley for 2 days and one of the things we wanted to do was Dante's View.
It is 6,000-7,000 of elevation, so you are heading up and up and up..... Really great drive to the peak, winding roads and great views. It is a drive in itself of pure scenery.
Once you reach the peak, there is plenty of parking and temperatures drop by about 10 degrees, so welcome break from the heat below..
The views are just amazing, on a good day, which you will be unlucky in Death Valley not to have one, you can see for miles....Literally miles...
Take the walk out along the dirt track to the end and you can feel like you are at the end of the world......Seriously so cool thing to do..... I would suggest as well spending a little extra time and do the walks either side of the carpark, they go higher and views even better... If you have time of course, but worth it...
Enjoy the views... There was a ranger up there checking you had your passes into the national park, so be warned. There is a fee to enter the national park, but it is worth getting one in case. Not sure if you get a fine, but the ranger was on duty the day we were there
Great experience.

One of the most scenic views I have ever seen. Nice to enjoy in the summer...and can even be done during midday because it is cooler up here...~5000 ft. I missed this on my first visit and am so glad I saw it during this trip.

There is a large accessible viewing area at the top. There is also a trail off to the side giving you additional views but not wheelchair accessible

After riding motorcycle in Death Valley we ended the day at Dante's view.....this really puts the whole thing in perspective. The view is simply amazing.

This spot offers one of the highest vantage points in the park, but come preparedāit was incredibly cold and windy about an hour before sunset.
āThe main drawback is the traffic. With the parking lot full, cars were lined up along the narrow road, making it quite difficult to navigate the drive up and down. While it isn't the best attraction in the park in my opinion, the view is still worth seeing at least once just to cross it off your bucket list.

I think it's worth visiting the badwaters and other lower parts of the park first, then making the trip up to here towards the end. I'd bet sunset would just be phenomenal.

Breathtaking view! First stop if you enter from Death Valley Junction. You don't need to hike, nice driving & is paved all the way up there. Lonely drive and no signal in cell phone, but ... so it's the Death Valley ! GPS still works, road is signalized all along the way - but just in case, print out a map from the website, they are very clear-. Not sure why all those bees up there ... lot of them!! They got pretty aggressive and managed to get inside the car ... took me forever to get rid of them. Opportunity for fantastic pictures - once you get rid of the bees :/ ... But the view is amazing!!!

Beautiful view, easy drive and worth the effort. Road narrows, and you can't take trailers or motorhomes. It will take your breath away!

It's called Dante's view for obvious reasons, but it could be called bird's eye view. It is really way up there. You can see a large part of the whole valley from here.

The best of the best overlook in the Death Vally. You see that beautiful view from high on the mountains and this is the number one sight you must reach in the Death Valley.

Have been three times (2014-2016-2018) and going back for fourth this august (2023) . We love this place so much that this time we will be staying 2 nights at the Oasis. We are from the UK so to go all that way means it must be a special place, in fact the whole park is incredible.Dantes View incidentally was used as the wasteland in the original Star Wars film..check it out

Spectacular! Certainly the one place to visit if you are limited on time. Easy drive from the main road although a little steep near the end leading to the parking lot. We were blessed to visit on a clear day with views of the entire valley and the rare re-appearance of Lake Manly. I read prior to visiting that it's disputed whether you can view Mt. Whitney. I brought 12x30 binoculars (recommended) and was able to view the snowcapped peaks in the Sierra Nevada by looking across the saddle between Wildrose Peak and Aguereberry Point (about 30 degrees to the right of Telescope peak directly across from Dante's). After looking at google earth my guess is I was actually viewing Lone Pine Peak, or a similar peak nearby, in the foreground in front of Mt. Whitney. With more powerful binoculars and clear conditions I think it likely you could view Mt. Whitney.

This is fantastic. Go here and enjoy a view out of another world. We had seen several pictures from the place. Still we nearly lost our breath when we saw it ourselves. It is a couple of easy hikes in each direction from the parking. We highly recommend the one going north.

Wonderful experience. My wife and I both exclaimed "wow" when we reached the summit. I also walked from the parking lot to one of the nearby peaks. I certainly felt the altitude when walking back to the parking lot.

The view form Dante's Peak is awesome! The parking lot and viewing area have been recently renovated so there is plenty of parking and view points. The road up is narrow at points with some sharp turns so I would not recommend long trailer setups.

The drive up has great views. 12 miles from main road. this is a great view of the entire park. Great place to start your visit.

We ended up here at sunset not only for the view but also because I was hoping to get some shots from the top. We were definitely not disappointed as the view is simply amazing! You can see a great view of the entire valley including the Badwater Basin area. While you can drive up to the point which is nice, there is a trail that will lead you out from the crowds of the parking lot for a much different view and perspective. This is really is a fantastic spot that you must experience.

We rode through Death Valley and stopped at Badwater, approx. 200 meters below sea level. A few hours later, on Danteās View, we were at 1650 meters looking down at the same site plus with an expansive view of the entire valley. Awesome view and the change in temperature from 41C on the valley floor to 34C on top was refreshing.
The road up to Danteās is made for motorcycling if you get past the slow moving vehicles and flirt a bit with the posted speed limit. Exhilarating the day we were there.

Majestic place. Excellent view of the Death Valley. Serpentine road to the top. Very windy. Must see,

Dante's View is a terrace at 5,475 ft height, on the north side of Coffin Peak, overlooking Death Valley. It is located south of Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park and is easily accessed by a paved road with ample parking.
The view is panoramic and includes the highest (Mt. McKinley) and the lowest (Badwater Basin) points in North America. We visited at sunset and were overwhelmed by the grandeur. We were blessed by clouds which were spectacular. Cool mornings are recommended. There are hiking trails and higher points to climb to and an area with picnic tables as well.

The view from this place is really wonderful! It's worth it! You can see the whole valley! Interesting to go to the visitor center and see the park model to identify the views.

We had just completed a two week road trip of 10 national parks so I did not expect Death Valley to impress. It did!. Pictures do not do it justice. It has to be seen to really appreciate the vastness, the lack of vegetation, the amazing rock formations and the subtle colour changes everywhere. We drove from Pahrump to Furnace Creek and back to Las Vegas in a day (8 hrs) and stopped at all the significant (signposted) features on the way in and out. The unexpected hightlight was a gorgeous lunch at The Oasis. Wow what a surprise that was! None of the significant areas, Dantes View, Zabriski Point, Artists Pallette, Devils golf club, etc were difficult to access, just park and walk (or drive Artists Pallette). I will be writing this review for everything we saw in Death Valley. It is SO worth a days visit. Next time we will drive on through hopefully. We went in October and it was warm...I imagine it'd be a struggle to leave the car in the heat of Summer to climb up to see some of the wonders.

Very long way for a nice view of the valley in a colder environment. Probably my expectations were much higher and i was parfially disappointed. I was there at the sunset. It is likely an extremely nice and safe place to see a wonderful sky.

A must stop when visiting the area, amazing views from the top that must be seen Reay for photographers

BEATUIFUL view of Death Valley and the Badwater Basin area. I absolutely LOVED Death Valley and this was one of the many reasons why.

This place is very magical. The road was easy to drive to even in our RV. Lots of areas to pull over and take lovely pictures.

Sunset was at 4:30 pm in the winter so make sure you get there on time. Spectacular views down and across Death Valley. Stopping here on your way to Furnace Creek give you an idea of where you will be visiting during your stay. Informative plaques.

We stopped by Dante's View the first. Fantastic view! The last short section of drive is led by the park staff because the road is winding and a bit steep.

A bit of a drive off the beaten path, but well worth the time. The overview is sweeping and dramatic, covering both the southern and northern ends of the park. We weren't planning to do this until a ranger said it was one of his favorite spots. There are parking limits for trailers and RVs so check into this if you have one.

Incredible!! This was my last stop my visit to the park and what a stunner. The view was amazing and it was so cool to see Badwater from above after being down there a few hours earlier. When I went it was about 90 degrees at the bottom at Badwater and about 56 degrees up top at the viewpoint. Definitely recommend driving up to this spot for the view! It was also very windy.

It's situated over 5000 feet, it's a high view point in the Death valley, from here, you can see the badland from top. as it is higher in altitude, it's much cooler than the other parts of the Death valley NP, so even you come here in the noon or afternoon, you won't fell very hot. It's a good place for you to view the park at a different angle, but it takes a quite long drive from the other part of the park, but actually Death valley is so big that the route between 2 points are always not short.

I had no idea that Death Valley could be so beautiful. I would go again in November when it's not crowded.

It's a bit of a steep drive towards the end, but the views are breathtaking. Great views of the bad waters.

High atop Dante's View above Death Valley you will see what I can only describe as breathtaking, spectacular views. This is a MUST drive that is about located above Badwater Basin, looking out over all of Death Valley, into Panamint Valley and on the clearest of days you will see Mount Whitney - WOW just WOW beautiful!
Making the drive 16 miles south of Furnace Creek was well worth it, with even getting a reprieve in temperature from the valley floor in Death Valley, seeing a significant drop of 10 to 20 degrees. On the particular day we went we even had wind gusts of upwards of 40 mph that had us cautious of getting close to the edge.
Grab your binoculars to spot out different places at 5575 feet above it all - you will want to photograph your smiling faces with the colors of the desert landscape below and the panaromic views all around. Well worth IT!!

Tip: Made it here from Stovepipe Wells in an hour driving a bit above the speed limit.
Terrific view. Highly recommend taking the 10-15 walk out of the parking lot. It's the only way you will see both ends of the valley floor. A truly unique view of the park. Zabriskie Point is also very nice, and might be more photogenic, but Dante's is grander.

It's a long winding road to Dante's View but it's well worth the drive. This is the "beauty spot' in DV. It's almost always hazy there so, if you've got a polarizing filter for your camera, try it out here. This parking area was improved recently, but watch the road to avoid a mishap you'll regret as you approach your destination. The best view of DV from here is if you walk out beyond the lot or climb up the hill on the right. But there are no bad views here. You will not regret going here.

Great views very beautiful park. I finally got to check this off my bucket list. You most drive up here if you ever come to Death Valley. The pictures doesnāt do it justice.

Dante's View offers the best view of the full Death Valley. It's at the edge of the Park and requires a 13-mile drive on a winding road and is quite crowded at the top. I'm glad I saved it for last as I was exiting the park as it takes some time to see and it wouldn't be a top priority site if time is limited.

The view from this area was my favorite thing in DVNP. You have an expansive view up the valley and across to the mountains on the other side, and you are looking down on the lowest place in the US just below you. There are benches to sit and enjoy the view and a couple of information plaques. There are side hikes off either end of the main area that you can do if you want different perspectives. The road up to the view is a pretty drive -- the last little bit is a few tight curves, but if another car is coming, you can stop and wait so you don't have to meet them right in the tight curves. Don't miss this viewpoint in DVNP!

A great spot to see a large portion of the park from above. Down below lies a number of the parks attractions. This was our first stop as we came in from the southeast. A good view and decent ridge line hike, but not awe inspiring (to me anyway) as some have described.

Great drive up and back, and the view from the top is simply breathtaking. In my opinion Death Valley rivals the Grand Canyon in its scope and grandeur, and this is the best place to view it that we found. Not to be missed.

Definitely worth the drive up to the top. It was so peaceful up here, only one other family was here enjoying the view.

A spectacular, airy view with short walks that make one feel like the ravens flying overhead. Excellent way to put the landscape in perspective and get a feel for the geologic setting. Parking gets crowded so go early. Would be amazing at pre-dawn to dawn.

The view from the top is amazing!! After going to Badwater Basin it is something to see it from the top. A must do when In Death Valley!

From this point you can look down at Badwater, the lowest point in the US. About 5757ft down from Danteās view. Spectacular sight across the valley.

If you hike up on the trail to the right side, you can get an even more spectacular view of Badwater and the salt flat. Also, the hike out to the left side shows you the other end of the valley.

This viewpoint is not to be missed on your visit to Death Valley National Park! It gives you a great overview of the main valley and the salt lake of the park.

Stunning views from here all across death valley and badwater flats. Bit of a windy drive up but worth the effort.

This is a must for a visit to DV. The view of the area is wonderful. While it is a desert, the landscape is totally different. A must stop.

This may be the scenic highlight of Death Valley anywhere in the park. Interesting drive up to the viewpoint overlooking The Badwater area.

After visiting Badwater, the lowest point in the park, it is a must to go to Danteās view to look at the valley from atop.

You climb up the steep windy road to the top of Danteās view and once you get there you get to experience views that you will never forget. On a clear day you can literally see the entire valley. Where as it was 100+ down in the valley it was only on the 70ās with a nice cool breeze.
If your planning on Death Valley National Park then Danteās view is a must stop.
Highly recommended stop. Please remember to drink a lot of water as it is easy to dehydrate without you realizing it.

Nice drive up and the viwe is fantastic. All the valley is so beautiful.
Its so worth it to drive this few miles from the main road.

Nice drive, not as steep as they claim to be. Then at the end do not stay at the parking lot overview, but hike to the real Dante's view point; have hiking shoes; In and Out in less than an hour. Tip: Get AllTrails App (paid version) and use the )beforehand) downloaded Death Valley NP trail map.

This overview into the volcanic geologic past of planet Earth and the American Southwest is fascinating. Educational signage is inobtrusive, up to date, and informative. This is one of the "must do" spots in Death valley. You can make it a short stop for the overlook, or get an even better view after a brief ,(quarter mile) hike. Longer hiking for real enthusiasts, but the view itself doesn't get a lot better... Just up close and personal. Signs warm of bees, but in early August I didn't see any. Unless you're doing just the overlook from the parking area, wear a hat and long sleeves. Hiking?, take electrolyte-laced water, of course.

Stunning 360 degree views and the added bonus of being able to drive to the viewpoint which is a godsend in July!!

This is the first stop if you are coming from Las Vegas, before reach the visitor center.
A must stop on your trip to the Death Valley, do not skip it, just 8 miles each way paved narrow side road with up hill to the view point. Bring hiking or closed toes shoes for the short doable hike.
My favorite of all death valley attractions.

Quite a windy cliff edge drive especially towards the end. But breathtaking views of the Badwater and surrounding areas. A lot cooler than below as high up at 1669m. Nice respite after the heat of the lowlands before going on to more sights. Definitely worth the drive for the peace and quiet and stunning views.

We drove up to the point about noon and the parking lot was pretty full. We walked around the viewpoint area but the wind was pretty gusty and made the temperature even worse. The views from the point are amazing - so colorful! You can see Badwater Basin from up here too. You will climb in elevation and the last little bit before reaching the parking have a few switchbacks. Longer vehicles are not recommended.

This is the highest point in Death Valley. It is a steep drive but well worth it to see the view. This is one of the views of scenery from the Star Wars movies.

Takes a drive to get there, but you can oversee a great deal of the valley and take some super photos.

Its one of many places to stop and see something very different. Difficult to describe its something you have to see.

Definitely worth taking the time to do this drive, with beautiful views on the valley. Would suggest to do early during the day to avoid the haze from the sun. Amazing landscape!

The drive up to Dante's View is very easy and smooth - well-paved and maintained road. The views were breath-taking. We got there about 45 mins before sunset and walked out to the vista points to the south of the parking lot. Would have been really nice to bring dinner and watch the stars. Bring warm clothes.

Travelled up the paved road in the morning before it was too hot. The elevation of 5,000+ feet kept it fairly cool when compared to Badwater Basin below. One can see most of Death Valley from this viewpoint and can view Badwater Basin directly below this point to Mt. Whitney on the distant Western horizon.

Loved the view...and the ride there. We went in mid October, and needed a heavy jacket. The winds were really blowing!
The area at the top has plenty of parking and amazing views from every angle. Worth the trip!

Leave the parking lot and take a short hike out for solitute and amazing views. You can take some amazing photos from this spot. Do not miss.

Went here to view the sunset. Stayed from about 630 to 930 pm. Temperature in mid-July was in the mid 80's. It was very pleasant. Walked around the viewing area, and off on an easy foot path near the parking lot. Took lots of pictures. Well worth my time to visit, and one of my favorite places that I saw in Death Valley.

This is the first place we stopped when arriving at Death Valley. Terrific overview of the valley with good interpretive signage. Some short trails lead out to even more viewpoints, but it was cold and windy (wind chill in the 30s) when we were there so our stop was fairly brief. But totally worth it.

Dante's View is an amazing spot! The view of Death Valley is an inspiration! The short hike gives you another view which is just as perfect!

First stop for those coming from Las Vegas.
Parking at the base and a short walk to the viewpoint.
Always bring a bottle of water out of the car.
Have bathrooms
āChemical typeā hole in the ground.
In the visiting center good bathrooms.
Type paid the entrance to the national park on the automatic machine Us 35,00 and if it is option to make more than one national park in the visiting center pay the
Difference and by annual entry

This was my third trip to Death Valley but my first time up to Dante's View. So glad I finally found the time. Its a laborious climb up via car but the views of Death Valley and the neighbouring mountains are tremendous.

Words failed us. We stopped and stared.
The sheer expanse, the ever changing light and colours.
Photos can not do the views justice.

A must see spot especially good for photographs. Easy access. Real photographers suggest early morning or late evening for the best pictures.

This is a must stop if you like to drive and stop for views. It overlooks the valley, you can see badwater basin from here. We walked around a little bit, the views looked similar.

Stopped here on our way into the park to watch sun set (we had been advised to try this). Lovely. Great view, quiet, lovely.

It is indeed a view, pleasantly cooler than surrounding area, worth detour off main road to see. Couldn't when we went but believe you can see all the way to Sierra Nevada mountains on a good day.

Absolutely incredible! You have a panoramic view if you walk out on the path. This was the best part of our trip to Death Valley!

The switch back drive is worth the view! Our visit was cut short by historic rains - but the sky was dramatic with the clouds.

We finished our trip to Death Valley with this stop. It is an amazing view. If you are ever near donāt pass it up.

The view was amazing! Not sure what it was about the perspective but if you were looking down in the valley while walking it made you feel really disoriented ...but in a cool way if that makes sense lol. We hiked most of the way along the trail but stopped short of what I think was the last hill because the view wasn't really any different as you went down.

I beat out the sunset by a drive through hairpin turns to the top of Danteās View. This mountain is several thousands of feet tall. You can see many snowy mountains, golden canyons, salt flats, and a variety of desert and mountain vegetations. It is colder and windier up on top. The views are magnificent!

We decided to drive up for the top to Danteās view at the last minute and were not disappointed. Spectacular view of the salt flats below. It was a bit windy up top but we were so glad we decided to come up.

The drive up was long, steep and windy. We got out and noticed a lot of bees. They were especially thick where the air conditioning water was on the ground. Iām a beekeeper so not afraid of bees, but if someone had an allergy, there is no where nearby to get medical attention. The rangers were putting up a āwarning beesā sign. Never saw that before, but bc there was a road sign they were putting up, I assume this must be at least a semi common occurrence. The views were great, but kids were concerned about the bees so we didnāt stay as long as I wanted.

Loved Danteās view! Donāt miss it!
Bathrooms located before the final drive to the parking lot (15% gradient). Hike south down the ridge line for some views (easy hike) and hike north for a narrow trek to peak that overlooks the valley (~400ft in elevation).

Our road trip included Death Valley, so after a long driving day we decided to take a 15 mile detour to Danteās View, quite a long way up, but definitely worth the drive. You can visit the Badwater Basin at sea level, but personally itās a waste of time. We went early evening and there were quite a few people about, if you can get there in time for sunset, then I think it would be a vision of loveliness. You just need to consider that you may have to drive the 15 mile road down in the dark.

Once you drive out there off the main road its so beautiful! You can walk out downhill to a lookout point or up the hill for higher elevation, not that its really needed

Furnace Creek is where the visitor center is located which is in the heart of the valley. If you enter the park on Rte 190, the turnoff to Dante's point is before the visitor center. Get a map or google the park to be aware of the turnoffs. The signage is there but it doesn't give you much time to turn while you motoring along at a fast pace. This turnoff is 14 miles long to the base of the point. There is a bathroom at the base not at the top. The road to the top is very good and VERY steep, 15 degrees or more. Low gear, obviously, should be in good shape if you plan the ascent and descent. The spectacular view covers most of Death Valley and the mountains to the west. Since it is high, it can be very windy and depending what time of the year you go can be very cold.

For a great view of Death valley, drive up to Dante's view. Spectacular! The drive is close to an hour and it was windy when we were ther, but not too bad. We went in the afternoon in February to avoid the cold chill of the morning.

Would definitely recommend a drive here to look down onto Death Valley. While the Valley was very hot, the weather here was cold and very windy!

I have been excited about this experience and it didnāt let us down. We went about 6:30PM and watched the sunset over the mountains and waited for the stars. It isnāt very far off the main but it is a curvy road going up the mountain. This was the best part of our Death Valley day trip. Very much encouraged.

It's a bit of a drive up here, and you'll find it is a cooler place than anywhere else. But it is definitely worth it.

Although beautiful, I believe sunrise would be better lighting. Bring a jacket to the viewpoint, even if daytime temps are warm. As soon as that sun sets, the temp drops and the wind blows.

Great viewpoint, and the drive up there is half the fun. Definitely go there, ideally early in the morning.

Better late than never! We only had 1 night in Death Valley 'on our way' from LA to Vegas. Between the limited time and the potential for snowy/icy conditions, I'd pretty much written this off. However, we arrived earlier than expected and had an absolutely perfect day, so we decided to go for it! We arrived at about 4:30pm, just in time for some beautiful sunset views. We had just enough daylight to wander briefly down a couple of close trails. I would have loved more time to explore, but just happy I got to experience it in the end. There were a few people up there, but there was still lots of room in the carpark and space for us all to spread out.

From view point go both directions to additional view points with unobstructed view of more of the area. It shown the enormity of the Death Valley

Up here, like 5000 feet above the desert (below sea level) floor, people below look like ants to the naked eye. Up here you find a dramatic 360 view of the entire ecosystem. In clear weather you will see the peak of Mt. Whitney. And at night, it's a spectacular star gazing affair. Or how about the sunset as it drops in the West? The drive is an easy one on a freshly revamped roadway. Except trailers are not permitted to the top. The road corkscrews around for the final mile or so to the top, but that should pose no problem. But be careful driving down after dark. There is also some hiking to be done here. One trail follows the ridge south a bit, the other goes north. But don't try either of them in water shoes. Don't miss this spot if you're never coming back.

Thirty miles south of Furnace Creek, is the best view that can be had of the whole valley. Truly not to be missed. View can be seen from parking area and one can also opt for a short walk to the left and see the magnificent view from a different angle. There are restrooms half way up the hill to the viewpoint. No other amenities at the site.

Firstly the drive up to Danteās view is superb. The viewās are amazing (for anyone that doesnāt know, Mos Eisley spaceport was filmed from here with Mark Hamill and Alec Guinness). You can go further out with 2 walks but need sturdy footwear and be active.

If you are going to Death Valley -which I highly recommend doing - I would definitely include this stop. The views from Dante's View over looking the valley are stunning.
The drive up is narrow and steep for a bit. Once at the top there is a fairly large parking area and a walkway along one edge. Some people are up there on the mountain/trail side with their chairs waiting for the sunset. Not me, I'm afraid of heights so I can't comment on that aspect.
Go for yourself to see what you think!
Oh and I almost forgot! We went in early April and it was freezing at the top. And very windy. So bring an extra layer of clothes for the top!

A must see if in the area. you drive a mile up the mountain side . You are on a paved road and it is not a hard drive but you must drive slow and you want to go slow to see all the wonders on the way up. (There is a toilet if needed near the top). There are lots of parking spaces and you can get out of car and just look all around. It is a paved area with a wall for safety. It you want to you can walk on the top of the mountain in two different directions. One way has black top and the other way you are walking on the mountain itself. I would recommend walked the mountain itself if you are physical able to. Unbelievable views.

We hiked a lot in DV and this had to be one of the most spectacular views that we encountered. The drive back is decent and there is parking. The trail isn't long but it is down to get out to the view and up to get back. The view is absolutely amazing and shouldn't be missed. I suggest that you take a panoramic photo if you can.

Danteās View is spectacular, but Death Valley looks much better up-close. The drive is worth it if you have time to do this and see everything else in Death Valley too.

Awesome view of Death Valley. People were parking along the road, but there were many parking spaces at the parking lot.

It was cold and windy when we went, despite the late afternoon sun. It's a long drive up, you pass a lot with a vault toilet in a laptop, but drive a bit more to the actual viewing area that overlooks Badwater.
There's a small parking lot there with a few informational signs. If you look you can see where sediment runs out in a fan shape from the valley walls and where minerals pool on the valley floor.
We sold this to the kids as a place they filmed Star Wars. They weren't seeing it because they were freezing from the wind.

Was there mid-morning with the sun shining West toward Badwater Basin and beyond, and a clear day. Spectacular view, and as many reviewers have commented, a great experience at different times of the day or night. There is an interesting relief map in bronze or some other type of metal that shows where the overlook is and the orientation to Badwater Basin below.

The sites are amazing, I never realized that Death Valley was at these heights. The views are simply amazing.

Very awesome views from up here, but we didn't realize it would be as cold and windy as it was. Not sure if it was unseasonably cold, but if you visit in winter you will absolutely want pants and a warm jacket and even a hat and gloves wouldn't hurt. I felt bad I couldn't explore more because I was frozen.

Like they said - definitely worth the long drive for the absolutely killer views. Was quite windy when we were there, but didnāt dilute the grandeur.

Drive to Dante's View is well, well worth it. Not a whole lot of people up there. Spectacular view! Also a bit cooler than down on the valley floor.

Amazing views in the park. Worth the hike. Because the park had gotten a hard rain the day before, several roads were closed so Dante's View was one of our only opportunities to see things.

Had a very good sunset but the wind was super strong. Well worth the time and the drive back down in the dark.

Dante's View is a scenic overlook about 5,000 feet above Badwater Basin with spectacular views. We came up here for sunrise one morning while staying in Death Valley and it was beautiful. The views down to Death Valley and across to Telescope Peak are amazing. Mount Perry Trail starts from the parking area and leads 5 miles to the summit for those looking for a hike.

We came into DV from Nevada and stopped here first which was a good way to get a visual overview. Although you can see a lot from the parking lot, do a short hike to get a little better view.

Can be cold, so take a jacket. Some of the best long-range views of the park. Go early in the morning, and again mid-day to get a good range of pics. Not far from Furnace Creek - about 30 minute drive on the outside.

From Dante's View you have a magnificent view over the salt lakes. When we were there, a fresh wind was blowing. A jacket was already in order. The drive to the viewpoint is a dead end. After the stop, you have to drive the whole way back. But the view is worth it.

If you visit DVNP you must visit Badwater first and then visit Dante's View. An amazing viewpoint which is comparable to the Grand Canyon.

Glad we took the time to drive up to the top on our way out of the park. This is a magnificent view of an amazing park. The vastness of this interesting place from top to bottom and end to end was demonstrated in full here.

The drive up is pretty cool, but the view at the top...is amazing.
Nothing else to say except donāt miss this!

Dante's peak was absolutely amazing. Awesome view of the valley below. There are bees up there for some odd reason which we saw the sign AFTER seeing the bees at the top. It was 96° at the top of the mountain which was relieving compared to the valley. We only visited the peak and the lowest point of the park. We should have headed North after visiting the lowest point as there was not anything that we wanted to do South of here but we were staying in Las Vegas and was ready to get back to the hotel. We never saw ANYBODY on this road and the temperature was 125° with no cell phone service so we were glad nothing happened to us. I would recommend more planning than spur of the moment like we did. Seems everything is really spaced out in the park. Overall we had a good time and were amazed at the sites.

The views are well worth the twisted drive up the mountain side.
From the top you get the most amazing views down over Death Valley. The sunset up there is stunning too!
Lots of room to park and then just sit and observe, would guess star gazing would be fantastic but we were to tired to hang around must after sunset.

You don't have to hike as this is a drive to one of the best views of the valley. We took the time to hike up the trail to an even better view, and it was only 97 degrees F while we were at this point. (In the valley it was at least 120 degrees F.

this is a schlep but worth the ride. you can see the highest point in the continental US and the lowest at the same time. Use the Guidealong app for the park, it gives great info on all the sites.

Great day trip from Vegas. It was a bit of a drive to get out here but the views are well worth if. Plenty of stuff to climb around on while you're up there too. I recommend driving out if you have the time.

Our most favorite viewpoint in Death Valley. Worth the drive to see badwater basin and devils golf course. Was very cold and windy but we visited in January. Colder than other parts of the park we visited

Highly recommend this is the 1st thing you doing DeathValley as it gives you perspective for everything else. Amazing view of the whole basin. The parking lot is right at the viewpoint very little walking for those with mobility issues and the hike out to the viewpoint is not overly difficult but there are loose rocks and such so hiking boots or shoes with good tread recommended.

Its not too long of a drive to get here. The view of the Death Valley basin is excellent. There are restriction on vehicle length and trailers since the last 1/4 mile or so is very steep. Maybe a 15% grade.

Take the short hike up the hill to the north if you are able. The views are even better and you might see some wildlife. We had flowers, lizards and a baby horny toad.

The access road, the parking lot, and the
viewing area are all paved, although the
last mile or so of road is a steep climb.
There is an outhouse at the bottom.
The viewing area is long and roomy.
There is extensive signage that gives you
all kinds of interesting information.
There is also a dirt trail to an adjacent
hill for another viewpoint.
From this location you can see both Badwater
Basin, which is the lowest point in North
America, and Mt. Whitney, which is the highest
point in the lower 48.

We hit Dante's View on our way out of the park. A winding narrow drive all the way up lead to a fantastic view of the park below, with a 30 degree temperature drop (was 118 at the visitor center, 88 with some wind up top) and some agitated honey bees. The honey bees are most likely looking for any water they can find. Be careful or they'll end up in your vehicle and yes, they'll chase you around the viewing area.
If you can get away from the bees (or there are no bees present) the view is absolutely stunning! There was no one present the day we went (other than our angry winged friends) so we were free to roam without anyone getting in our way.

This was the last stop I made during my five-hour visit to Death Valley NP. Allow 35 minutes to get here if you're coming from Zabriskie Point. Dante's View is from a towering 5,475 ft. viewpoint looking down on Death Valley and the salt flats of Badwater Basin which are 282 ft. below sea level. It's named after the 14th-centry Italian poet and author of The Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri. 20 minutes is a good amount of time to spend enjoying this site.

nice view from the top, was hazy august 2020 due to california wildfires, no bees when we were there as others mentioned, definitely good first stop coming from las vegas. its also 20-30 degrees cooler than the valley floor

Obviously this is not to be missed in Death Valley NP.
Tips: plan on reaching at parking 2 hrs before sunset leaving you ample time to explore.
Dress warmly if itās winter. Try to hike up to all ends of the ridges as each offers a different viewpoint.
Sunrise views could be rewarding as well but that involves some steep driving up the hill.

Very easy drive; I suggest you add this to your must visit list; short hike takes you to breathtaking views

Well worth the extra drive off the highway. The road is paved all the way. Excellent view of badwater basin.

One of the best things to do in a desert National Park is take in the incredible view from the mountains. Whether on the South Rim of the Chisos in Big Bend, on top of Mount Lemmon overlooking Saguaro NP and the Sonoran Desert, on the Top of Texas looking across the Chihuahuan Desert at Guadalupe Peak in the Guadalupe Mountains NP or atop Ryan Mountain overlooking Joshua Tree NP and the Mojave, the views from a mountain top of the desert are simply amazing, and for me, Dante's View in Death Valley NP is the best. It is simply that incredible
Today there is a better parking lot and viewing platform compared to my visit 12 years ago. However, the best way to see the valley is to either hike up or down a short distance to the rocks which provide an incredible setting for pictures. Twelve years ago, our family hiked down so this time with friends we hiked up. Here it is amazing to stand on the rocks a mile above the lowest place in North America and see the valley. As with Badwater, we were treated to the lake which is still there from the fall and winter rain. The views are so crisp here with no humidity the day we visited. While we went to Zabriskie Point to see the sunrise, a lot of people come here and I can fully understand why. It is simply incredible and maybe the best desert view in the entire park service

Such a beautiful view. We got to the park pretty late in the day so this was about all we got to stop and see. Fantastic view and a bit of parking. I could see how coming at a busy time would be tricky getting up and down the road to the parking lot with lots of traffic

A drive up to Dante's View is the best way to take in the vastness of Death Valley. It's a little off the beaten path, but that means you're less likely to find a big crowd of people, especially if you go early to mid-morning, which I think is when the light is best there. The viewpoint is over 5,000 vertical feet higher than Badwater, which is almost directly below. Danteās View is a bit of a drive off of the main road but only the last 1/4-mile or so to the viewpoint are particularly steep and twisty - be sure to take that part slowly. Because of this part of the road, no large vehicles or trailers are permitted to go all the way to the viewpoint, but there's a spot where you can leave a trailer about 1/2-mile from the viewpoint. There are no restrooms at the viewpoint itself but there are a couple at the trailer pull-out. Really a stunning viewpoint thatās not to be missed.

The views from several high spots are amazing and worth the drive. Even better, when we were there the temperature in the valley was 111 but up at Dante's view it was a very comfortable 85. We didn't want to come down.

Drive to the top and look out across the valley. Amazing views in all directions. Be prepared for the drive up as there some really steep and curvy areas towards the top

This point is very easily accessible as you can just drive up to lookout and enjoy the views of valley base and amazing sunset.
From the point itself you have few small hikes which can give different view

Unlike other spots in Death Valley, this one is a dead end and so require a long drive back/forth to enjoy the view. It is worth it if the weather is nice, giving you a view of the various places to visit such as Devils Golf Course and Badwater.

Our family went to Death Valley. At night, the view here is just absolutely fantastic. You can really see many pretty things here.

Death Valley is a place of extremes! Dante's View is on such a high vantage in Death Valley that the temperature went down from mid 40s (Celsius)/100s (Fahrenheit) to mid 20s (Celsius)/ 60s (Fahrenheit). The view of the Valley from this point is just amazing. One can witness the vast salt lake at the base of the Valley and snow capped mountains in the distance.

an exceptional view of the salt lake and death valley; reachable by car with parking, find a way to take a short excursion (advisable in the morning given the temperatures) along one of the paths on the sides of the car park from which you can enjoy spectacular views for photos

I was glad to go to this view but it should be a lower priority when time is limited. Would be best for sunset photos but only if sky conditions cooperate.

Impressive, challenging for the unbearable heat but the landscape repays all the efforts. Recommended for healthy people.

Danteās View will literally take you breath away, for after a quiet drive through the desert, you suddenly view the entire valley spread below you. You can look down to Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America and then, if it is a clear day, you can get a glimpse to the North of the Sierra Crest, which hosts the highest mountain in the lower 48 states.
You are standing on the Funeral Mountains, looking 20 miles across the Valley to the Panamint Mountain Range. It is very difficult to judge scale in a desert. To get a good idea of what it means to be one mile above the valley, look down and see the road, a little line going along the curve of an alluvial fan. In the middle of the valley you can see a white layer which is make primarily of halite, or table salt. It is the Death Valley Salt Pan, and we will see it up close when we go to Devilās Golfcourse or Badwater Basin, which is directly below us.

About 35 minutes (24 miles ) from Furnace Creek you will find Dante's View. For me, the views from here are breathtaking and surpass those at Zabriskie Point. There are also many short trails from which you get incredible views of Death Valley below.
I highly recommend getting up before dawn and making the trek here to watch the sunrise behind you ....... and then watch the sun slowly illuminate the mountains across the valley ...... and eventually the valley itself. Mind you, it can get very VERY cold and windy at this viewpoint in the early morning. Dress warmly and wear gloves. At least, this was true in February.

Left Furnance Creek about 45 minutes before the sunrise and got there just in time. Wasnāt the clearest of days, but it was still a great way to start the day and a tour of Death Valley. Lily good to visit anytime, but well worth the sunrise.

The view is unbelievable!
Well worth the drive off the main road around Death Valley.
The Badwater salt flats are mesmerising.
You are breathing rare air in the USA here. Suck it all in, before driving down into the lowest point on Earth in the western hemisphere - Badwater.

A long drive, especially from Panamint Springs. The views are glorious. Plenty of parking. We opted not to stay for sunset but we'd like to next time.

While at Death Valley National Park, my husband and I stopped here. It's about 26 miles round-trip; however, it's well worth a stop. It's a slow drive and bigger vehicles are not allowed. It provides a great view of death valley. It was in the mid 80s here in mid May in early afternoon.

It's a must see in the park. Breathtaking vistas give you a glimpse of everything you'll see in the park. It's a must see while you're there.

A very worthwhile destination in Death Valley. Getting to the summit (with parking) via a rather winding and steep mountain road is rewarded by a fantastic view over Death Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges and valleys, especially of the Bad Water Basin. The Dantes View Peak Lookout is just under 1,700 meters above sea level as Bad Water Basin is 86 meters below sea level.

I recommend that everybody who visited Badwater Basin should visit Dante's View as well. I realized how big Badwater was for the first time when I saw it from Dante's View point.

I know saying that itās equivalent to the Grand Canyon might be shocking, but Danteās view is something that inexplicably takes your breath away. We actually stayed in Vegas and wanted to find something away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Iāve always have heard about Death Valley, and I always pictured it as a boring desert. I was COMPLETELY wrong. Everywhere we looked here amazed us. Itās such a phenomenal park, we wish we had the tome to explore it all. Plan a couple days here if youāre true National Park enthusiasts. I canāt even put into words how shockingly amazing this place is!

Check the times of Sunset/Sunrise as it is a long drive up to the top. There are no facilities there so you need to take everything with you.

This overlook is well worth the drive and short hike for the best overview of the valley and the Badwater Basin area. The access road is paved and the parking lot is good-sized. The short hiking paths are well maintained.

The view here is stunning. It was a little hazy when we went, but it was still stunning. Definitely bring a jacket or coat. Gloves aren't a bad idea either. It was 70 plus degrees in Badwater, but at the view point it was 28 with a strong wind the day we went.

We went too this highest point and overlook at the end of the day. We stuck around to see a glorious sunset. Saw wildlife on the way there and almost got a owl hood ornament as one swooped down when we drove back in the dark. It is a narrow, winding and climbing drive but more off the popular path so it is very interesting. We barely saw another car and there were less than 10 at the viewpoint. Animals come out at night so if you want to see some, stay after dark while enjoying the sunset.

This is well worth the drive! A ranger talked us into going to see the views and we are so glad that we did!

We looked at various tours to Death Valley from Vegas and they were expensive. So we decided to rent a Mustang for the day and do it ourselves. Great way to do it.
We had to put the roof back up when it went from 35 to 47.... But a fantastic way to see the valley

I always visit here, but since I'm never going back, this was the last time. Visit this spot and stay outside the park.

We almost sped by the road to Danteās View, I said no turn here we have to go to see this! My husband was thoroughly amazed and surprised at the view from this point! It was a cloudy day, with peaks of blue sky! It was windy and cold! A definite must see!

The view was beautiful but it was 41 degrees at 7am so dress accordingly or bring lots of blankets! Worth checking this out.

Completely worth the drive! The drive itself was fun, making our way up the mountain roads and watching the temperature drop as we climbed. The views were truly spectacular with the bonus of seeing a view from the original Star Wars movie!

We visited Badwater prior to driving to Dante's View, and we were impressed that we could see the Basin below where we had just walked. From the lowest to the highest points in a fairly short time! Be sure to look down and see the people - they are very small, but look for them to see where you've been!

Worth the trip to the top. Nice with fishing winds when it was 51 degrees in the valley. There is a toilet on the way up, more of an outhouse. Nice view from the top.

You must drive up a mountain but roads are good. Views are amazing. Early morning is better if you want pictures of desert floor. Much cooler up there.

Take the time to drive up to Dante's View. It's about 11,000 feet elevation and you look below to Badwater Basin at 232 ft below sea level. Quite a contrast. Bring a jacket or sweater as the weather is significantly different than the desert valley floor.

Make very sure that you check the weather conditions before you go!!!!!! It is a long ride up there if it is fogged in. Secondarily, it is way above the valley floor, it tends to be very cold and windy up there, so dress accordingly. Lastly, a camera lens that has been sitting in a warm humid car, can fog up when you are up there trying to take a shot

worth the ride up, a bit windy road, very steep at the top, windy as well, but the view was really great !!!!

Definitely worth the time it takes to drive up the climbing, steep at times, road to the top. At more than 5,000 ft., the temperature averages some 20 degrees cooler than on the valley floor so you might want a light jacket. You can see Death Valley's lowest and highest points (Badwater and Telescope Peak), and the shimmering expanse of the white salt flats. You can see across most of the 110 mile long Death Valley. Don't miss it!

Get a 360-more or less-view of Death Valley from this peak-but watch out, as it was incredibly windy when we visited and apparently is almost every day.

Drove up to the overlook on our way out of the park. A breathtaking view. Very windy and cold. Wish I could have stayed longer but I think it was below freezing with the wind chill.

If staying at Furnace Creek, don't miss sunrise at Dante's View. Its worth the short hike since you get a view that contains about as much of the park as possible.

Dante's View is a panoramic viewpoint at 1,669 meters above sea level. Below you see the Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America. A large area of white salt can be observed. It is an excellent photo spot. Its name was inspired by the poet Dante Alighieri and his Divine Comedy. It was also used as a filming location for a scene from the Star Wars movie Representative of the Planet Tatooine.

Even though Death Valley is so desolate and dead, it is also breathtaking and awe-inspiring! Who knew that desolation could be so magnificent?!

Marvelous views on badwater! One of the best views in DV. It's a big climb up but it's definitely worth it.

If you go to Death Valley Dante's View is the best spot to view the entire area. Especially in the morning when it's not too hot yet. It takes a bit of a drive to get there and as you get closer to the top it gets a little steep, but in the end it's worth it. Once you get to the top, there are 2 trails that are very easy to get right up to the edge. You might want to get there early because as the day progresses there are more and more travelers and as it gets hotter, even way up above the heat will affect you.

Itās a longer drive up to Danteās view but this is a must go. View was breathtaking and gives a really good feel of the park.

A great vantage point from which to get an idea of the expansiveness of the Badwater salt flat region of Death Valley. A must see for any park visitor and at nearly 5500 feet above sea level, it's a chance to escape the heat of the valley, too!

This is one of the most beautiful points at Death Valley. It is a drive, but worth the view. You will see a long way away.

A must if you have just done Badwater, since you can look down and see the 5,000+ foot difference from where you just were. People at Badwater appear as mere specks in the white salt flats from here. The road is winding but there is plenty of parking when you get to the top. Be VERY careful if you are leaving the official overlook (which is fully accessible and has guard rails) to walk around a bit; the ground beneath your feet can be uneven and unpredictable, especially if you are bent on the perfect selfie. Watch that drop!

We left Vegas around 8:00am and were back in time for dinner. We didnāt do a lot of hiking in Death Valley but enjoyed the Scenery and the stops. We drove there on NV160 through Pahrump. We returned via Beatty on US95. We followed day 1 of the itinerary laid out by earthtrekkers blog including swapping the last hike they did for the Sand Dunes.
Danteās View was our first stop. It's beautiful and gives you a great overview of where you will be visiting later in the day. Make sure you leave the viewing platform and venture out to left. The views are stunning. We visited Death Valley on a beautiful Friday in February. I did need to put my sweater on up here as it was windy in the morning. We spent maybe 30 - 45 minutes at this stop.

I heard great things of Dante's View, we drove to it and 7 miles in found out it was closed, no notices or signs indicating it was closed before we started the trip. maybe next time.

Definitely worth the drive. Really quite incredible to see. Photo's just don't do it justice. Please make sure you have plenty of water with you on hot days.

Definitely worth a morning trip to watch the sunrise, and how the colors hit the valley. Make sure to bring warm clothes! Also, take the time to do the short hikes as it will give you more amazing views!

While there is a little bit of a drive to get here, the view is incredible. It is worth your time to make this drive and stop.

As all views / canyons / vistas in Death Valley... exquisite -- if this is your type of "entertainment" -- is it?

For sure take the time to go to this overlook. It's amazing and simply a wonderful place to get some great pictures. You can take a short walk down a path leading from the parking lot to get some additional pictures. This is a must when in the park!

Long drive in, and out on a steep winding road. When you get there, if the weather is clear the view is worth the trip. This is a very popular place to visit, so the paved road can be sometimes busy. We encountered a number of folks that were unhappy with us traveling at or just above the posted speed limit - it seems they were in a hurry.

The most amazing views make the detour completely worth it. The last 1/4 mile or so is an āinterestingā drive.

One of the highest and most spectacular points in Death Valley. Definitely one of the most breathtaking and beautiful viewpoints that you can see throughout the tour. For lovers of walks, photography and views I highly recommend spending at least a good half hour here as there is much more to see in the surroundings.

This is an absolute must when visiting Death Valley. Go at sunset the view is stunning. The road is a little scary but wares, is is the best spot in DV!

Worth the drive for great views over the valley, do it as u drive in from Vegas or as u leave towards Vegas
Gives a big picture view of DVNP

Dante's View provides a panoramic view of the southern Death Valley basin. At a height of 1,669 feet, it is located off Route 190, about 30 miles south of Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park. To the south, the Owlshead Mountains can be seen 19 miles away. To the north, the Funeral Mountains are 31 miles distant. To the west, the Panamint Range rises dramatically to Telescope Peak. To the east is the Greenwater Range. Death Valley straddles the California/Nevada border between the Great Basin and Mojave deserts. It is the largest national park in the lower 48 states with 3,373,063 acres and attracted over 1.6 million visitors in 2018. It is the hottest, driest and lowest of all national parks in the United States. The visitor center in Furnace Creek on State Route 190 offers a 12-minute introductory slide program and displays dealing with the park's geology, climate, wildlife and natural history. Sightseers can navigate the park by automobile, four-wheel drive, bicycle, mountain bike and motorcycle. They can hike, too. State Route 90, the Badwater Road, Scotty Castle's Road and paved roads to Dante's View and Wildrose provide access to the many scenic viewpoints. More than 350 miles of unpaved and four-wheel drive roads provide access to wilderness hiking, camping and historic sites. Death Valley also is a popular destination for star gazing with one of the darkest skies in the United States, especially in the northwest part at Ubehebe Crater.

Wow! Great panorama. You can take the small roads to get an even more beautiful view. A short 15-minute walk is enough from the viewpoint.

It was a lovely view and the cool breeze helped to give us a little break from the 120 degree heat. It is also a great place to view the stars at night. Very little light pollution.

Best view of the whole day. A bit out of the way to drive from the visitor center, Badwater, etc. but well, well worth it! No hike required for this amazing view either. Stayed for about 20 minutes before heading back down.
1 small bathroom located at the base of the last steep climb.

you have to turn off of the main highway to get to Dante's View, but if I recall correctly, the road is paved. On a clear day, you can see the entire valley. It is very interesting.

This is easy to access and well worth the effort for the view. After a drive in, there is a parking lot and viewing area.

14 miles from the main highway but itās worth a stop. you can see all of death valley. Go early in the morning parking is limited.

This view is easily accessed by driving to it. The views are stunning and worth the drive up. Most of the way is fairly easy to drive. The road gets very curvy as you approach the summit.

It may only be 30 miles from Furnace Creek but much of the road is two lanes up the hills to the lookout point so it will take longer than you think. Once there, you are rewarded with fantastic views of the whole valley. A very different perspective from Zabriskie Point.

I really liked this spot and feel that if you visit Badwater, which is about 1 mile straight down the hill from here ( a much longer drive though), you should also take the drive up to the top to feel the difference in temperature. It was in the high 90'sF. down on the flats, but as we drove around and up to Dantes View, the car's outside temperature gauge kept dropping, going down to a comfortable 68 degrees on this day in late April. There were plenty of wildflowers and birds around. Be sure to bring binoculars. This also would be a great place for star gazing, as many other places had too much light from cars.

Long paved drive (about 13 miles one way) but worth it. Overlooks most of Death Valley. Can be cool in the fall, so bring a jacket.

Not to be missed when visiting. Death Valley. Breathtaking views. Itās so amazing to be able to take in the breadth of Death Valley from above.

Danteās View is a great first stop if you are coming from Las Vegas. We were there early in the morning and only saw one other person at the viewpoint.

We travelled in October so weather much cooler. Bring a jacket you will need it
Amazing views, the highlight of DV for us. Remember to fill up with fuel before you reach the Valley, petrol is about double the price once you reach Furnace Creek.
A must see if in the area.

Dante's View is a great place to get a big picture view of Death Valley NP.
The view is quite accessible from the parking lot....don't need to walk very far. There are some additional trials which are quite good and give you some different perspectives of the park.
It's a big out of the way depending on where you are coming from but definitely worth the drive. The last section of the road is a bit twisty but quite fun!

This is worth the drive but if it anytime between Nov-Mar...dress warmly, the wind is killer. Be sure to walk all the way and all the way up. The views are incredible

Death Valley is a thoroughly mesmerizing national park. And Dante's View, perched 5,000 feet above the valley floor, gives you a bird's eye perspective on a big chunk of this 3 million-acre park. The views are truly sublime. And if you'd like to spice up your trip a bit, leave the parking lot behind and walk along the crest trail in either direction. The views are stunning at every spot, and once you get a hundred or so yards from the parking area, the views are yours and yours alone, typically.

To do really and especially at sunset or sunrise. It's really beautiful. Look at the few pictures I took. To do really but really

Was our last stop in Death Valley NP = sunset was beautiful over the mountains. A very steep drive up to the view but worth it. Got cool towards sunset - and there is a great mountain to climb if you are up for it. Best spot for sunset viewing in the park

Prepare yourself for an adventure of a drive to top but well worth it. The view and elevation is amazing

Dantes view was a bit of a drive from Furnace Creek, but weāll worth it. It quite a climb but a large parking lot. There is a hiking trail that gives you a better view of Badwater.
It was very cold and windy when we stopped there.

My husband and I visited Dante's View midday in October. The road to this viewpoint winds through the desert (be careful for those who get motion sick) and ends at a parking lot where you can appreciate the view and learn a bit about the area.
This viewpoint is absolutely gorgeous and gives you a 360 degree overview of how massive this park is. I would imagine it's a great place to stargaze as well.
General park info:
Death Valley National Park's entrance fee is included in the America the Beautiful Pass, which I highly recommend. Check for closures but beware that the info might not be accurate. On the day we went, there was info about some construction but the park website didn't mention they would be closing a road in the middle of the park, cutting off our ability to see much of what we wanted to see for 2 hours (which would have put us after sunset).
Overall, I would definitely add Dante's View to your "must-see in Death Valley" list.

Without doubt, the best view in Death Valley. Better than Zabriskie Point IMHO. An easy drive and a short walk takes you up to a breathtaking view over Badwater Basin salt flats. If you drop any parts of your trip. Make sure itās not this one. For Star Wars fans, this was the Mos Eisley overlook.

Death Valley like you have never saw it, we got there at sunset and it was breath taking! Be sure to drive down to Badwater after Danteās View! Free !

Normal car journey, even the most dopey passenger will be impressed. Just not enough stop off points for photos!

I visited this place at noon in December, a few free parking spaces are available. my family walked up the mountain ridge, further enough to see no more other tour people, and enjoy the beautiful view by ourselves. we walked about 1 hour round trip till my 9 years daughter called quit, my wife would like to walk one more hour further.
on one side is the view of icy valley, the other side is the desert mountain terrain with low desert plants, amazing view, it's the picture of the year for me.

10/10. Winding uphill drive but man, what a great view. It is remote, bring water. If you are going hiking you are on your own.

Amazing experience to feel the intensity of the heat that hits you when you step out of the vehicle. Breathtaking & beautiful views that youāll never forget and will stay with you forever.
Take plenty of water and fuel in case of break down. It was 122 degrees when we were there.
Also visit Furnace Creek further along the road which has a gift shop & cafe for a meal with great friendly staff.

The drive up the view are steep and winding but the view from the parking lot is amazing. You can hike across the mountain area up there, too.

We stopped at Zabriskie Point and a nice man told us we had to come here and that it was only minutes away. That being said the turnoff is 15 minutes and then the drive up starts but worth it.

This was the first place we came when we arrived at the park. It was late afternoon and very windy. Awesome views of Telescope Peak across and Badwater Basin below. It's worth the drive from the main highway on a paved road.
There is a lookout at parking but we walked the trail out farther for an even more amazing experience. It's about a half mile ridge out and back.

If you have a trailer, there are two places to park it as you will not be able to drive it all the way up. We stopped here on our way to the campground with our little trailer in tow. It was relatively easy to unhitch and rehitch but it your's is not, then skip this with the trailer and come back at sunrise or sunset.

Don't miss it!!! I am told most visitors skip Dante's View, we almost did. Glad we didn't, it was one of the highlights of the trip. Beautiful, forever views and great hiking.

Do not miss Dante's View as this gives an incredible overview of what you will see in closer detail as you go around the park later.

The drive up to Danteās Point is worth making because the view is out of this world.
There is a small track running out of the visitor area, and this is worth a quick walk along. Only take 15-20 minutes there and back.

Great views of death valley
Interesting photo opportunities and if you stay late enough can get great star gazing
Journey back down a but tricky on the dark
But worth it

We went there early in the morning at sunrise, and the 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains were tremendous. It is some 13 miles off the main road, but it is well worth the drive!

Breathtaking view, must visit this place when going to Death Valley. One of the most beautiful place in this area. Best for pictures and selfies. Will definitely recommend.

Beautiful view. Death Valley is the hottest place in the world but Danteās view is over 5000ft elevation so it wasnāt so hot up there. The higher above sea level the cooler(or in this case not so hot). This offers you s beautiful view of Badwater Basin.

Death Valley is an incredible place and the drive to Danteās View is worth it. It is about 13 miles off the main road but is a regular paved road. The last quarter mile is steep but not a problem in the car. Long vehicles are not allowed all the way up. This view up here looking over Death Valley is spectacular! The winds are stronger up there and the temps are about 10 to 15 degrees cooler. Highly recommend this stop!

We saw it at night and were fortunate enough to have a nice conversation with a group of astronomers who were stargazing.
Beautiful.

Great view, fairly crowded. You are not alone being inspired by it, so prepare for some crowds. It is about 2 hours out of Las Vegas and the sights along the way are interesting too if you are not used to seeing nude mountains of dirt and rock. This is not far from other Death Valley sights. You can easily combine with a stop at the visitor center, Zabriskie Point and Harmony Borax Works.

Itās a fair drive into the mountains in Death Valley, but itās totally worth every mile (about 16)! The views from atop of the lookout show what Death Valley is all about. The salt flats, the sand dunes, the mountain range, the vastness, itās all truly epic! Iāve never seen anything like it in my travels, this will be a recommendation from me to anyone thinking of doing Death Valley.

Best part of the trip. Amazing view of the valley below. Worth the drive. Paved so no offroading. No hiking necessary so it's an easy place to visit in the summer. Was 112 degrees the day I was there. Not significantly cooler at the top.

The drive to Dante's View is pretty easy overall. The last several hundred feet were rather steep, a challenge for our compact rental car, but hey, we made it!
The parking area is pretty big and there are a couple benches to sit on. The views in every direction are spectacular: Badwater Basin is visible, Telescope Peak, as well as the famous Star Wars scene that shows Mos Eisley from a distance.
Aside from the views there are a couple trails that can be taken.

A really nice viewpoint of the valley. Make this a stop as part of your drive in Death Valley. Below you can the Badwater Basin (which is also worth a stop and a walk!).

The view is really magnificent, but when we visited it was freezing cold and the wind made the situation even worse, and the journey there was also quite a challenge towards the end. It is quite crowded here for good reason, but it is still worth visiting at least once.

Know your weather forecast and expect it to be windy on top even if it isnāt elsewhere. Itās an amazing view but very glad we went at 9 am instead of for sunrise as originally planned as it was 45 and windy and would have been miserable at sunrise. I also think the picture was better because the salt flats were lit and not in shadow.

Reached here just in time to catch the sunset. Worth the drive up! Beautiful scenery, great pics can be taken here.

Much cooler than the bottom of the valley but a bit of a swirly drive to the top which is worth it and get a stunning view of the entire valley.

Last trip of the day and very glad we made it. You are over a mile high so itās a lot cooler then the valley floor. I think it was around 70 when we left and it was 47 when we made it to the top.

The drive - narrow and curvy - was pretty cool and an added bonus. The views from this view point are nothing short of spectacular. If you can, take the time to walk down or up from the point. The views just get better and better. Just when you think youāve seen the best view, you find another.

I think most visitors doesn't know the reference to Italian Renaissance Dante's hell. But that in mind, the hell may be 108 degrees as well. The heath and views are breathtaking. If you visit Death Valley, this is a most rewarding must see.

Itās a moderate drive to Danteās View but you had to drive just to get to DVNP, so why not trek to one of the top-3 rated sites in the park? Admittedly I saved this drive for on the way out of the park and by then, I wondered if it was worth the time. It is. Despite all the beautiful scenery throughout, the view from here is not to be missed. Having already hiked Badwater made it all the better as you see the valley displayed below as if from a 787. Iām sure the traffic would be slow during peak times of the year, and despite exceeding the speed limit, I still had an idiot riding my tail the whole time, but itās worth the drive!

If you are going to Death Valley it is well worth the drive. Views are stunning.Take a jacket as elevation is quite high.

East hike up paved path to an outstanding view of Death Valley. Fairly windy that day, but worth it. Amazing!

The Dante's View viewpoint is located on the top of a high hill. To get there you travel along a beautiful asphalt road starting from the valley floor.
Once we reached the top we discovered with immense pleasure that the air was "fresh" (around 27°C) having started from the 47°C of Death Valley.
From the viewpoint you can enjoy a truly magnificent, I would say unique, view. You can take a side path to discover further viewpoints, but the one closest to the car park is certainly the best. Not to be missed!

It might at first glance seem a long strech to get there but it is no doubt more than worthed the effort. Only by looking down from +/- 1700 m height to Badwater (- 86 m) one realises how special the place is. I'l carry the fantastic view with me for the rest of my days.
What a view!
The view from here of Death Valley is just breath taking. We highly recommend this location as you can see all the different colors of the Valley.
