Our family so enjoyed walking the streets of downtown Franklin. Window shopping or selecting a store to enter was so enjoyable. Everyone was so warm and welcoming-whether we just browsed or actually purchased something. The downtown stores were enticing to look at and enter and beautifully decorated. We wished we could have had longer time perusing. the charming downtown area.

Downtown Franklin is quaint but vibrant. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from as well as historic sites. Don’t forget your camera!!!

This city is adorable. We enjoyed free parking in the garage and walked up and down Main Street. Great shops and places to eat.

If you would like to spend a day away from Nashville, this is a great option. There are several historic museum homes to visit a short drive away. You can shop and eat in the downtown area before or afterwards. Everything is close together. Parking in the downtown area is limited. Last year we tried visiting in December and couldn't get within a mile of the place.

It is a small historical town that has been revitalized with boutique shops. All are unique and carry a variety of items and lines of merchandise. All of the shops we went in had very friendly staff full of suggestions on where to go next and possible eating places. It is a great way to spend an afternoon if you want to stroll, shop and eat.

We always hope to visit Franklin each time we are in the area. This year we were able to take some time to do a little Christmas shopping downtown. The parking is convenient and easy to access. The shops are an easy walk. Will return and highly recommend some time down town

Downtown Franklin Is packed with history and quaint little shops. Very easy to walk and highly recommended. A lot of museums are within walking distance From the downtown area. Restaurants are great and like I said a lot of quaint little shops that are worth stopping into. Many of them familiar names but a nice afternoon spent downtown. Plenty of parking either on the street or very convenient parking garage. I would highly recommend downtown Franklin to visit and tour. Park once and you can walk around the whole area it's not that huge.

We primarily went to Franklin to visit the several Civil War sites in town, but ran downtown for a lunch break at Puckett's. The free parking garage was wonderful and there were plenty of other restaurants to try out. Many shops to also explore and we could see spending plenty of time exploring it all. Perhaps on the next trip we will.

We've made more than one trip to Franklin and will continue going back. Nice stores, great food, welcoming residents. Homes in the downtown area are beautiful, and I applaud city leaders for maintaining the charm of the old south (minus the Confederate flags, which there were plenty of). During our last trip, we were surprised by all the construction just outside of the downtown area, and can imagine residents are not thrilled with the increase in traffic and congestion. Hope their expansion does not wreck the hometown feel. Drive a few minutes outside the downtown to the Franklin Factory for one-of-a-kind vendors and more good food.

Flew to Nashville to visit the grandchildren in Franklin. Had to spend time on Main Street! The shopping is amazing and the restaurants are excellent. We love that they have preserved the Franklin Theater. Got my hair done at ECCO and oh my! Wonderful salon manager, Ashley! She greeted me and after just a few minutes knew which stylist to partner me with. Can’t get enough of downtown Franklin!

By Lee Majors |

Extremely over priced tourist trap stores, and the parking is a complete train wreck with parking scams with tickets. The downtown is in decay with windows and doors rotting out on street front shops and sidewalks smell like urine.

June 2018 . I visited the downtown area of Franklin TN . It is full of all kinds of shops and nice Coffee Shops and Restaurants. It's like it takes you back in time. I like this Town , it is worth for a Walk . Great visit!

Downtown Franklin, Tennessee, is a walking neighborhood with many lovely shops & restaurants! It's a step back in time when you are able to visit Civil War battlefields, as well as, dozens of historic walking trails that truly gives you a feel of times past! We love walking downtown Franklin. We often do this ... it's so special!

By theatregoer2018 |

Enjoyed walking around and shopping in the town, which is close to Nashville, but with a true small town feel.

By Frances M |

After having a mid-morning snack (yummy bonuts--biscuit/donut) at Biscuit Love restaurant...we then walked all the blocks in the town center, even reading the inscription on the Confederate statue. There's a variety of stores and restaurants (had a great milkshake at The Cheeserie). The Fall Franklin Greeting banners hanging from the lightposts added to the charm of the town. We returned to Franklin that night, ate dinner at 55 South (nice selection of beers, lots of bacon in the shrimp and grits) then enjoyed live music and dessert (fried brownie with icecream) at Puckett's. So happy we included dowtown Franklin on our visit to Nashville.

By BizTravelerMissouri |

Main street was busy and had a lot of family owned shops. There were a variety of retail in a 2-3 block area. Worth taking the time to drive down from Nashville.

By MaryAnn H |

We enjoyed the shops along the streets of Franklin, TN. The local spice shop was humming and the sales people were very helpful. The antique mall was filled with beautiful items and already gearing up for the Christmas season. The local coffee shop was a great place for a rest stop and the restaurants were delightful.

By Cherie R |

I’ve traveled all over the US and other countries. Franklin is one of the cleanest and cutest downtowns. I love all the awesome shops, and amazing restaurants.
Plus this history lessons around town are super cool.

By Vicki B |

Wonderful quaint Main Street shopping and dining. We had pizza at the Mellow Mushroom which was excellent and shopped. Coffee at Starbucks and over a wonderful afternoon.

By jgbtravels |

Although Franklin is still one of our favorite small towns the downtown shops are not as interesting as they once were several years ago. There are still some shops we enjoy going in and we will purchase a few items. But to be honest a number of shops are a bit high end.At one point Franklin had the second highest per capita income in the country for its size. The residents there can certainly afford it. Some of the restaurants are pricey also. We do like Puckett’s and Merridee’s on 4th Avenue. It is a lively downtown and tourists do flock to it.

By NZTripMan |

A pleasant 1 hour walf along main street diving into shops. Was nice that the only mainstream shop was Starbucks.

By Nancy Y |

The downtown Franklin area is beautiful and friendly. Fine shops and restaurants galore. As my friends would say, a place to die for.

By Stacy M |

BEWARE of PD"s furniture store! That PD"s store owner sells poor quality furniture that "Looks Beautiful" at a glance but then cracks and breaks after you get it home! Then the PDs owner will not fix nor replace ...she takes your money and blames her customers and her Chinese supplier for the bad quality. PD's furniture and customer care are both terrible!

My husband and I were in Nashville for a couple of days and wanted something different to do one day. We discovered this fun little historic town. We parked the car and walked downtown to discover so much history, lots of cool cafes and places to eat and wonderful little shops. We spent most of the afternoon enjoying this little jewel. We had a great lunch, homemade ice cream and walked it off in and around the downtown area looking at old homes and visiting all the eclectic shops. It was a great experience!

By Stina |

Downtown Franklin is such a fun, quaint town! Lots of shopping and great food! Plenty of restaurants to choose from. Also nice to explore and check out all of the cute homes nearby.

By itsmedeb72 |

This was our second visit here this time there was some type of festival. Lots of fine dining. If you go on Sundays go early as everything closes early. Good for a driveby one time👍🏽

By Steve B |

Really a great assortment of restaurants, bakeries, ice cream shops, stores, historic homes etc etc. Quaint, charming and wonderful in every way.

By timbo001 |

This was our first trip to Franklin, TN. We traveled to visit family for Christmas holiday and stopped in Franklin on our first leg as well as the trip back home. We stayed at The Harpeth Hotel Downtown on both visits and we were very satisfied with the hotel and accommodations. Historic downtown Franklin is easily walkable and there are many nice restaurants and pubs, quaint and unique shops and a fabulous historic theater that featured different Christmas movies each day. For dining, we enjoyed meals at "1799" (located in the Harpeth Hotel), The Red Pony, Gray's on Main, Cork & Cow, and Puckett's Downtown. We also stopped by JJ's Wine Bar, Scouts Pub, O' Be Joyful, Hop House, Americana Taphouse during our stay. For travelers who are on a strict budget, be forewarned everything is somewhat pricey in Franklin. We paid state, city and county taxes on everything which came pretty close to 10%.

By LAP08 |

A nice place to leisurely walk around. There are beautiful churches, brick homes and government buildings on the village streets. There are signs with historical information that you can stop to read. Very pleasant place, but plenty of traffic.

By rolofduvall |

We thoroughly enjoyed our "self guided" tour of Franklin. There are many sites registered on the National Registry of Historical Landmarks, in Franklin. The historical area is centered around the town square (a round about) with numerous plaques describing the buildings.

By P3902RQwilliamp |

Downtown Franklin bristles with history, hip eateries, shops and beautiful buildings. It is pedestrian friendly with many restaurants and places to buy that thing you have been looking for. Parking can be a little challenging, but they do provide a free parking structure that really helps a bunch.

By Julie B |

Parking in garage or the street was the option. 2hour parking on street. All shops along the Main Street have many options for everyone. Ice cream, food, clothes. Great times

By Cinda10 |

A beautiful & quaint little town with charming little houses and wonderful large mansions! The main street area is full of wonderful & unique shops & restaurants. We were surprised at how affordable everything was! The conveniently located parking garage is free... so give yourself plenty of time to browse & shop, eat and also enjoy an afternoon coffee & pastry!

By nez t |

I visited this city many years ago when it was a quaint little village. now it is a boutique, preppy, extremely overpriced.

By LocaLinda123 |

Was driving from Florida to Chicago & had originally thought to stop in Nashville but Franklin caught our attention. So many picturesque homes, stunning scenery & a darling Downtown area. Our visit was brief but enough to ensure of a return for a much longer stay.

By Georgia G |

Franklin has a ton of history, however, on the 'square' you can just go at your own pace, in and out of many eclectic shops. There is a huge variety of goods to be had. Also, plenty of food and beverage options. If you have time or are interested there are self guided walking tours and photo ops.

By LRF21 |

Downtown Franklin is beautiful and charming. It’s easy to walk, with lots of convenient street parking and several free public parking garages on the outskirts. The Main Street is filled with chic shops and some excellent restaurants and cafes. Live music venues are abundant. The historical buildings in town are well preserved and historical markers are plentiful. Downtown Franklin is a fun place to spend an afternoon.

By jdck |

The downtown area is small with shops and places to eat. Since it is part of the history of the area, it is definitely worth your time to stroll the streets and enjoy.

By Shelley A |

Downtown Franklin is a must when visiting the Nashville area. The shops, restaurants, farmer's market, quaint atmosphere, and kind people make Franklin a very special place.

By TNGuitarguyD2 |

We explored the downtown part of Franklin with our younger daughter and she immediately want to eat at the Mellow Mushroom. After this stop we went in most of the shops on at least 3 separate streets. We utilized the free parking garage located in a back corner of town that was still located very close to the main shopping area. The streets are easy to navigate, there wasn't a lot of people, and the selection of goods was varied and while not cheap at least of good quality.

By Kelly J |

Shops, restaurants, and lots of people watching. Free parking garage. I wish there were more types of shops here as so many are clothing based, but it is great to see an active downtown in a city. My favorite spots are White’s Mercantile, Puckett’s Boathouse, Kilwin’s. There are walking tours based from here and you are very close driving distance to some historic houses that saw significant Civil War action.

By Deborah F |

Really cute town! Cute stores but pricey. Drive around and look at the cute houses on the side streets.

By Patty B |

This is such a lovely town we want to show It to everyone. Great for lunch at any of the places on Main Street. Great shops to visit, so quaint and a great way to spend an afternoon. We love the Red Pony and Cork and Cow. Both are only open for dinner I believe. I would love to go to the theater there, it looks great.

By Jenny K |

My family and I recently visited the town of Franklin and had the best time in this quaint little town. We had a wonderful lunch at the mellow mushroom off Main Street, and Mark, our server, was the best! We visited a coffee shop, a few markets and a lovely antique store. I would definitely recommend visiting downtown franklin if your in the area. It’s just an all around fun and relaxing day in a friendly and eclectic little town.

By Michelle W |

This is a neat to little area to go to. It is actually quite busy. Reminds you of small town USA. There are lots of shops and restaurants and coffee shops. Walking and parking is easy.

By Crystal R |

Downtown Franklin was very enjoyable. There were lots of unique shops and plenty of variety. Was fun reading all the history about the town.

By Melinda N |

Loved this little town great restaurants and shops. Everyone so friendly. Wanted to try every restaurant but ran out of time. Next time you are in Nashville please take a drive to this quaint town.

By Karen H |

We have been to Franklin several times and really enjoy strolling in the downtown area - so many shops and unique items

By Dinkerbugs |

Definitely something for everyone. It can get very congested so either go early in the day or later in the afternoon, just before dinner. There's a free public parking garage on 2nd Ave if anyone can't find street parking.

By Jon M |

Shops were quaint and fun. Locals were friendly and warm. Prices were above the average I would expect.

By Vincent R |

Downtown Franklin is a great place to shop, eat or just go for a stroll. There are several great restaurants from casual to fancy. There are some great antique stores and the architecture and monument are educational. It is a must see.

By Travelheart |

Love downtown Franklin!! MY KIND OF SHOPPING! Unique and varied shops!
Wer especially enjoyed the spice shop! The only negative was that I didn't have enough time to see all that the downtown had to offer!

By Jazzie2me |

It was recommended to me by the Bed & Breakfast in Nashville. The town would be so charming and quaint. So I did not see that at all. The good thing is I had just got the rental car, so I got my feet "wet" on my first driving in TN!! Only thing I really liked here was eating at Puckett's. They just have a lot of shops and I wasn't interested in buying a bunch of "stuff" to bring home. I wanted to just make memories, eat good food, and meet a lot of friendly people.

By Wanderer795140 |

Beautiful little town with a lovely town square and beautiful historic buildings housing great shops and great dining. 20 minutes from Nashville.

By MasterP007 |

There are so many things to do in downtown Franklin. The historic square has lots of photo ops and the shops and restaurants are plentiful. We always love spending time here.

By thorisa y |

Loved the stores along the Main street and everyone be prepared for the tourists. People I passed by were so Happy and Friendly. It was worth my time for looking through the Beauty of this Lovely town.

By JoLee B |

We can't wait to go back! It's quaint and quiet and adorable.
Very pet friendly.
Lots to do and see.

By KyleGTN |

First time to Franklin as we visit Nashville every year. This small town is lively and so comfortable with lots of shops, eating places and people are super friendly! I was amazed how clean the city was and the history of Franklin as well. Highly recommend visiting downtown Franklin!

By PoochieMars |

Old charm with a upscale attitude. I witnessed the transformation of a sleepy little southern town to a vibrant little southern town. Plenty of history, mystery, and panache, Franklin is hard to not like. You'll usually catch plenty of smiles, food options, sweet treats, boutiques, and music. Sit on the sidewalk and have a pint. Pet a dog, take in a movie, visit an antique store (haunted), or just sit on the square and people watch. It's ok to just slow down and soak up the charm like a big 'ol biscuit.

By Kim G |

The Carter House was a spectacular experience. The gentleman that led the tour was very knowledgeable and his story telling made you feel comfortable. The tour was moving.

By Ekekla08 |

You can catch live music some days or a dance troop, but even if you don't, the area is fun and interesting. People are friendly and love to chat with you!

By Carole A |

We have the privilege of escorting continuing guests to "walk around downtown" and never get bored! There's ALWAYS something we missed or didn't notice previously. Unusual shops, food for every taste, and old original buildings. "The Square" contains a terrific Civil War Memorial and the stained glass church windows are worth a trip in themselves. The epitome of "small town" Southern Graciousness.

By E Z |

Super great way to kill some time and visit some awesome small businesses. It’s very quaint with lots of places to eat and interesting stores. Lots weren’t overpriced either, which I found refreshing. I would definitely go back again!

By Jet322101 |

Great place to live. Lots of places to tour, eat and walk. Cool shops and great history. A must see for all ages. Bring your maps! And your appetite.

By TScat2010 |

Very nice town to walk Main St. Don't plan on coming away with any deals! Saw a pair of Goat skin gloves for $95. Everything is priced for tourists, almost insulting in some cases. Found nothing of interest to me. They even have a mattress store in the middle of it. Good to see it once for a nice walk. No need to go back.

By Steven D |

Charming is an understatement. Quaint with historic character. Preservation of the past is honored. A good mix of family friendly venues for meals and celebrating with friends. Places of worship blend in with coffee shops, a vibrant restored theatre, boutiques, fudge shops and apparel stores. Parking is free but can be tricky during major events. It’s very obvious that City Leaders, Chambers, Civic Groups and other Community members have worked hard at fostering and creating this special place.

By ciciof4 |

visited the Franklin Theater to see the Malpass Brothers..WONDERFUL SHOW/BEAUTIFUL VENUE. Loved all of the beautiful houses.

By schlegel1 |

Can’t say enough good things about this quaint town.
From the free parking garages to the friendly people to the amazing restaurants.
Love love love this town

By Adgolden |

My husband and I visited downtown Franklin one morning last week. Easy to walk with lots of parking. We enjoyed it, but unless your significant other likes to shop I think it leans a little towards a girls weekend get-a-way. My hubs enjoyed it but was ready to go after about 3 hours. Lots of great little shops with many terrific restaurants. Prices are what you would expect for the quality of merchandise...no chain stores here...small privately owned shops with unique and curated merchandise. I think I would actually prefer to stay in the quieter Franklin and visit Nashville for a night on the town. Perfect place for a nice evening stroll. Beautifully restored homes and sweet little streets to amble through. Several of the museums and attractions were closed the day we were there. On our way back to Nashville we took the back roads and visited Belle Meade Plantation...worth the stop and the drive is beautiful and should be breathtaking in a week or two when the fall leaves are at a peak.

By Joyce M |

Franklin remains a vibrant, interesting town to explore. Shoppes on Main Street is no longer there as Philanthropy enlarged their shop but some of the vendors relocated to the antique / consignment shop on 2nd Ave South and Margin Streets (known to locals as the Old Ice House due to originally being where ice was purchased for ice boxes before refrigerators were common). There are some new shops and additional ones on 2nd Ave north of Main. Benches on Main Street provide a spot for a brief rest. Water bowls for pets are available at intervals in front of shops. The Visitor’s Center on 4th Ave. is a source for great information and some souvenirs. So explore and enjoy the town’s history and good food.

By Import R |

This is a great change of pace from Nashville, but close enough to the city to get you some fun. Excellence shops all along the main steeet. Friendly faces. Diverse options. Well worth the 20 minute side south from Nashville!

By Terrah08 |

Beautiful area, tons of shops. Fun to walk around and see. Everyone was friendly and enjoying the pretty march day with us.

By TexFlyers |

The biggest things that I love about this town is that it has parking garages that do not charge a thing to park in! That is already one way I am more in favor of this town then I am of Nashville!

But let's get to the serious business: populated with so many small stores and shops, this town also features a Civil War Memorial in the heart of downtown in the center roundabout! On our walk up and down the streets, we came across many historical homes that featured such great elegance and grace!

There was even a shop titled, "The Shop Around The Corner". Even though children's literature was not the focus of this shop, I still would have been tickled pink to have seen Meg Ryan there!

So if you want to visit a very beautiful well-maintained small town and get some shopping done without having to go to Nashville, make the short drive out to Franklin and enjoy!

By PJliketotravel |

This place is amazing. Great old downtown area with lots of shops and a hometown feel! Plenty of cafes and things to do. People are friendly.

By Linda G |

This was a great town to take a walk through. We enjoyed going into all of the different shops. We particularly enjoyed the Savory and Spice shop.

By MF S |

Great shops and galleries. Very fun place to spend the day with a variety of good eats near by too. Worth checking out.

By Bruce D |

There is a beautiful town square with a statue, old cannons and well kept landscaping. There was a beautifully decorated Christmas tree as well. If you like charming cities don't pass this one up. Make sure you eat at Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant.

By MaryannF650 |

We had out of town visitors who have never been to Franklin. We lived in Brentwood for 5 years and visited Historic Franklin on many occasions. We were proud of the area and had a nice lunch here. It was a hot day so we only strolled Main Street and 4th Avenue. Flowers galore. Clean streets and sidewalks. Lots of restaurants. Lots of specialty shops! Lots to do here. Buildings are beautiful, especially the new courthouse downtown. Then there are the beautiful homes and the neighborhoods. This is a "must see" and spend at least one day walking around or even driving through the neighborhoods. No wonders it is one of the best small towns!

By ttowntriper |

I cant ever remember seeing such a beautifully preserved town that looks right out if it is right out of the late 1800,s

By Colln |

Downtown Franklin is an awesome place to walk around. There’s a lot of shops and restaurants to try. The only downside is some of the shops close pretty early.

By Stillfan |

Definitely meant for a shopper. If you go down the back streets, there are some nice old houses. Nice walk.

By KrankyKrew |

Passing through town to visit historical sites and stopped for lunch and shopping. Plan a good day here, lots to see!

By bill berezowitz |

wonderful downtown area to walk around in and spend the afternoon. Nice places to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the day.
If you go, dont miss all the Civil war history - great learning

By PeaceMamaSunshine |

Franklin downtown has a little bit of everything. It's very enjoyable to park and walk around through the shops, grabs some food, and explore. The people are friendly and there is a lot of variety of things to purchase or just look at. A few points of history as well. Will go again.

By SixtyOne |

I honestly haven’t seen a more beautiful town ever. It’s like you have walked onto a film set. I can only imagine at Christmas time it’s off the chart.

By askdrvictoria |

Had a great time in downtown Franklin with much to see. Parking can be a little tough yet the experience is worth it. You see all sorts of people and most of them are courteous and helping you find what you may be looking for.

By Tad M |

Not impressed with the downtown or Franklin in general..Heard what a must see Franklin downtown was by reviews etc..looked like a typical small southern downtown to me…nothing really made it pop or stand out…Drove around Franklin and wasn’t impressed with the town..Sure you have some nice homes, Dave Ramsey makes it sound like it’s Beverly Hills!…which is so, so, so not even remotely close..lol..it’s not even Asheville, NC!!! Save your gas and skip it!

By John M |

You can do a trip to Franklin alone it has so much to offer....especially downtown Franklin. If you are visiting Nashville and are looking for a day trip then visit this historic, vibrant downtown!

By markOttawa_Canada |

Lovely area to wander. Lots of shops to visit and the atmosphere is charming. It's definitely worth making the short drive from Nashville to spend a couple of hours here.

By Kristin E |

Downtown Franklin, Tennessee is adorable. It is very clean, safe, and has great little shops. It has a small town/trendy feel. Great for walking around, relaxing, boutique shopping, coffee and taking in the unique old architecture

By SRusher |

It's picturesque and has an old time feel, but mostly pubs and diners and we didn't see anything particularly unique about the shops. Interesting place to kill a couple of hours and have lunch or dinner.

By Jim F |

So much to say. Do you want history? to eat/drink? to shop? Iive entertainment? It's all here. On, and near, Main Street in Franklin, Tennessee is what every town wishes their downtown was like.

By Jonaleen A |

We were very impressed with the Old Town area. Nice boutique stores, good selection of restaurants and great sights to see. We loved this town!!

By Winnie E |

The perfect country town located 40 minutes from Downtown Nashville. Beautiful buildings, incredible civil war history, lovely people and amazing restaurant / shops. Go past the visitor’s centre for some self -guided walking tours and information about the local civil war houses.

By Shane P |

I love the downtown of Franklin. I was there just this morning (10/5/2019) and in spite of the large amount of traffic (both pedestrian and automobile), it's still such a nice place to go and walk around. I can name a few places to get some wonderful food:
1. Merridee's bread basket on 4th street
2. Puckett's grocery and restaurant on 4th street
3. Mcreary's Irish Pub on Main street
just to name a few spots for great local cuisine.
Big fan. In fact, I think I'll head back down town and take a stroll with my son and daughter. Maybe we'll pick up a pie at Merridee's or a Yeti Cooler at Bink's on Main street (cause who wants a pie without an overpriced cooler).
Thanks and best regards,
--SP

It is a nice walk, only a couple blocks long, mainly places to eat, a few unique stores, several places to get drinks, nice way to spend a couple hours on Fri/Sat night or for lunch Sat. Parking can be a problem, there is a packing garage just off the main street and traffic can get a little heavy. Not an all day thing, just a couple hours and your good.

By William B |

We really loved this area. There is a city circle surrounded by restaurants, boutiques and shops. There is even a music venue.

By cheri975 |

We enjoyed walking down Main street and visiting the boutiques and restaurants. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Our favorite was The Tin Cottage shop. I got the cutest retro sunglasses there. The restaurants are great also. Our favorite was 55 South! So cool!

By foreverart |

Love this area. Very interesting shops abound, good restaurants, nice just to stroll, walk the dog, window shop or shop your feet off. Just a nice place to be.

By Ronald K |

Victorian houses dating back to early to mid 1800's, with many antique stores, boutiques and restaurants. Quaint is how I would best describe this town. People were very friendly and amazingly helpful! We sold around the town and most of homes have dated plaques on their exterior so you know that age of the home. Beautiful gardens in most homes with a lot of civil we history. Definitely as must see town!

By nicholas s |

It's nice place to walk around and see all of the old shops. Stopped in at the Franklin visitor's center but they didn't really have that much info on things to do. They had lots of things to buy though.

By Ellie Talley |

We loved touring downtown Franklin with our pup today. There are many pet friendly stores and the holiday decorations are lovely. :)

By Bine Travels |

20 min south of Nashville. Great for history buffs - civil war era! Lots of boutiques, a beautiful small park, free parking, cafes and antique stores. A definite must to visit. Spend between 2-4 hours.

By KOAABA123 |

Love this town. Can’t say enough good things. Awesome restaurants & shopping. Never disappoints. As busy as it can get sometimes, especially on the weekends, we always find parking and if we pay at all it’s a few dollars. Well worth it!

By Rolltidefamily7 |

This area is nice to walk around and take in a fairly safe day of walking or strolling around lots of shops and restaurants people are friendly. The bad I think the people around this area need a little more driver training or awareness of the surroundings more than 2 occasions we were nearly hit because the drivers were not pedestrian friendly. Even with the pedestrian lights beware some people do not obey the red lights. Other than that a wonderful experience

By Catherine W |

We stopped in Franklin to have lunch. This is a quaint town with lots of history. Much of the architecture is Civil War/post Civil War. Lots of restaurants and boutique shopping. They have free parking in two structures and also on the street. There are historic walking tours and even a Ghost Tour!

By Margaret |

We were the only people in the museum while we were there. It featured all the history of Franklin and the Civil War. I think it's a wonderful tribute to all those who lost their lives in that war. It had a marvelous collection of muskets, arrowheads, uniforms and other memorabilia of that era.

By CurtK525 |

A wonderful environment. Great walking around to visit quaint shops and good restaurants. Very historic, as well. And .. the nicest people you can come across! Don't miss downtown Franklin!!

By Liveforetravel |

What a cool little downtown area. There were restaurants and shops galore. It was not what I expected. I would go back to Franklin just to hang out downtown although our real reason was to go for the history here.(Civil War)

By Helen A |

Franklin is a beautiful American town. Friendly people with fantastic hospitality. Exceptionally clean. Would recommend a visit

By Seayeaitch |

This is a beautiful town, one of the most prettiest centres that I have visited in the USA. Steeped in history with excellent places to eat and visit.

By James Hobbs |

Lots and lots of little shops, some really nice restaurants. The buildings have been restored to perfection. They have started a Big “pet friendly “ push in the shops we could take our dog into most all of them

By Chris H |

Beautiful downtown. Almost a little too perfect. Definitely worth a stroll. The price of living in Williamson Co makes shops and restaurants pricing unreasonable for tourists.

By Paragone9 |

Franklin is best known for being a civil war town. It is very quaint and I mean that in the best possible way. Nice shops and a great selection of restaurants.

By Travelchicks |

Downtown Franklin was okay. We went on a Monday and it appeared that many places were closed. It is cute yet just plan a short visit.

By jhughes522018 |

All the diversity, all the choices, somewhat pricey, but really friendly. It is good to see store fronts that are not empty. Variety of restaurants is tremendous. We will enjoy our next visit.

By Katie R |

Nice patriotic feel, fun gift shops. Tin Cottage was my favorite and Merridee's was a yummy lunch spot. They are proud to be American-all red, white and blue!!!

By Donna and Steve M |

We love hitting downtown Franklin on an early Saturday afternoon. Many quaint shops to choose from. Multiple great eateries. Easy parking, with free parking garage.

By Wesley S |

For persons who like to 'shop small' or those who just enjoy walking where you're obviously welcome to visit, downtown Franklin is the place to go. I came here to do the 'Adventure Lab Tour' hosted by MidTennesse Geocachers, which guided me across Franklin's historical features quite well. The small-town ambiance of this place captured my heart far beyond what I was learning from the historical sites, however. The shops here feature some of the best browsing and artistic shopping opportunities I've ever encountered in this kind of concentration. And don't miss this - the friendliness of this place was off the chart charming! If you enjoy a stroll back in time but like shopping cutting-edge creativity, this is the place to invest an afternoon...

Downtown Franklin provided a needed respite from the hustle and bustle of Nashville. On a lovely Saturday after Thanksgiving we walked the streets, enjoyed the shops, and took in the fantastic 60 degree + temperatures. The shops offer unique wares, especially the spice shop! There is a free parking garage so even on a busy day parking is not an issue. Worth the drive from Nashville!

By jgbtravels |

We have been to Franklin numerous times over the years. It’s a dynamic small town with numerous cute and interesting shops. There are plenty of eateries and more coffee shops than most small towns have. Let’s face it it’s a well heeled town in one of the most prosperous communities in the country. We were there on a Friday and Saturday that was quite busy. It’s a popular place with plenty of Civil War history for those of us who are history buffs. If you go to Nashville and have never been here then you are missing out.

By esquared9396 |

This is a beautiful downtown! We love strolling the streets, looking in the different shops as we go along and grabbing a bite to eat or a coffee in one of the restaurants located here. Whenever we are in the area, we stop here. We are definitely planning a trip to see it decorated for Christmas!

By Jena J |

Very quaint town. I enjoyed the shops and a restaurant and candy shop. I love the history and how quiet it is. I want to come back when there's a music festival!!

By 791bec |

This is a truly walkable downtown with a wide variety of restaurants and shops that range from big name to boutique. Enjoyed my visit very much.

By Jennifer W |

Downtown Franklin is absolutely gorgeous. Tons of really cute shops. Kinda pricey but still a cute place to hangout and meet up with friends.

By Amanda71109 |

Downtown Franklin is filled with many stores and boutiques to spend your day looking at them all. If that’s your thing you will love it. From quaint boutiques, to antiques, to gifts, to spices, ice cream, restaurants and so much more! We went in July, so it was hot. Bring water! Loved the spice store. Finished our day with a refreshing coffee and a bite to eat at Frothy Monkey. Happy visiting!

By Nelson T |

The Franklin downtown area appears to be thriving with lots of visitors as well as locals using their downtown. Lots of shops and restaurants. Historic St. Paul's Episcopal Church is in the middle of town and worth a visit. Other historical sites are here as well. Parking is limited at times, but once parked walking around town is fun and easy.

By Terri B |

And what a nice surprise it was. One of the better organized street fairs I have been to. Even if there is no street fair the shopping is great. My favorite was Philanthropy. A beautiful store with a great purpose. My favorite though was the prayer chapel in the center of the store.

By Smb1600 |

This is a town that is just fun to walk around many of buildings on Main Street are over 100 years old and look great.
Just a fun place to go to and see surround ding areas

By 70tmdf |

Have been downtown while visiting before and love the small, quaint feel. So glad this event got delayed because we could attend when it was moved to Sunday evening. Great event for families, certainly very crowded!

By greshamhill |

Downtown Franklin looks to me like something out of a painting. The historic architecture that lines Main Street is only overshadowed by the local and unique shops that inhabit it. If you enjoy antiques, unique and beautiful decor, excellent eating places, and just a fun and beautiful thing to do on a nice day, then you will love downtown Franklin.

Unlike other small downtowns, the things that you’ll find here are not cheap and are not second rate. In fact quite a few things you’ll find are very high end, exclusive, or handmade.

I’d encourage someone from out of town to visit during a special event. These happen on the weekends all the time and they often line main street with unique little tents that will be selling their own local products. However if you do not want to fight the bigger crowds, then come on a weekday and tried to plan to visit the historic Franklin theater which always has Movies, concerts, and specialty shows happening. If you want to eat somewhere local, try Puckett’s, Grays on Main, Merridees, Franklin Mercantile or the BoatHouse. For a really nice dinner for a special occasion, you can never go wrong with the Red Pony.

By Bill246 |

Many shops and resturants along the main road. A short walk to some of the museums that are well worth the visit.

By betsie g |

What a gem! We were in the area for a wedding and visited the downtown of Franklin on a Friday evening. It's a lovely town with beautiful older buildings that have been well cared for. Many unique shops and some lovely restaurants line the streets. It's very walkable! Parking was quite easy. All the shop staff were welcoming. From the downtown area, there are several side streets that you can drive down to view some of the lovingly restored homes as well. Worth the trip - you won't be disappointed!

By DiverM |

We enjoyed our historic visit. While there are some very nice guided tours we did fine on several self guided tours and never paid any fees for any tours. The visitors center has maps, restrooms, and brochures. We walked around downtown looking at historic houses and buildings. We then went to Pinkerton park and walked to Fort Granger which had lots of Civil War Historic signs. We then went to Eastern Flank park which has a huge battlefield with lots of signs explaining the history. You don’t need to book a your tour to see the battlefield there. They do have a historic house you can pay a fee to tour.

By bdchurch58 |

We stopped in Franklin after spending the night in Nashville. The shops are interesting and the merchants were very friendly and hospitable. Wish we had more thing to enjoy this area.

By jtt37 |

We had a free Saturday afternoon recently, and decided to just go do a little walking around, shopping and eating in downtown Franklin. It is a well kept, clean, safe and charming downtown. There are several good restaurants and bars, and many small shops that are local (and a few stores that are chains). It is also a nice place to people watch, although there are not many park benches or places to sit.

By jgbtravels |

Although Franklin is teeming with a number of restaurants and quite a few coffee shops the unique local shops have seemed to dwindle. We used to love to visit these wonderful little shops and bring home a few items. Did Covid or online shopping have a hand in this? Who knows? It’s still is a very historic place with tons of Civil War history and great places to eat. As I recall they have one of the top per capital incomes in the United States. It’s not a cheap place to live. We actually found more interesting shops in Bell Buckle and to an extent Murfreesboro. We still love Franklin but more for its history and especially Puckett’s and Merridee’s although I do love their coffee shops. But the shops are not the same.

By Sal8997 |

This was such a wonderful experience for my husband & I. We were in Nashville for a few days & kind of stumbled upon this festival which was not a far drive away. The historic downtown was just a perfect setting for the music & entertainment. The weather was good so we did a lot of walking & enjoyed all of it. I am so glad we happen to be in Tennessee on that weekend! This was my favorite thing we did on this trip!

By Piazza1 |

Make sure you don’t lose anything here. It will never be seen again. A person found the item, turned it in and no one claims to have it.

By Kevin D |

We stopped for lunch and had a self guided tour of the downtown area. Within 3 blocks you can see a church and other buildings still with bullet holes as fighting happened downtown as the battle moved south.

By marthaemi |

We had no expectations of the town, but we were really surprised. The town is super cute. Lots of fun shops, ice cream places and restaurants. Nice to walk around in the evening.

By Amy C |

Franklin is a a really cute little city. We went on a Monday and it was busy but not overly crowded. There are plenty of places to eat or grab a drink. There are also plenty of shops and boutiques. Park your car and just start walking.

By Ken B |

A visit to the Franklin area should always include spending time exploring downtown. You should do so both at night and during the day. Many of the old antique stores have disappeared, but it appears more retail and mixed-use are popping up. A beautiful area and a pretty town.

By Spiegs1968 |

Find a parking place walk around for a few hours and have a drink or a meal. Lots of stores and other options- well worth the visit to this beautifully landscaped historical town. Just a pleasant place to be

By Michelle S |

This down town is very cute with great stores and restaurants. Bisquit love was a pretty good breakfast.

By MPTrainor |

They have a great small town feel in Franklin. Lots of stores and restaurants to shop and eat at. Loved the old town feel.

By paws0810 |

We were able to walk around downtown just a little bit last night before an after dinner what a cute little town would love to come back when I have more time to spend looking in the venues and cute little stores and shops that are located on the main street in downtown Franklin.

By Steven |

This little downtown is prime for our style. It was so much better than downtown music city. This was calm VERY CLEAN and loved the homey shops.

By dchassell |

Great atmosphere and great downtown feeling. Love the stores. Can’t wait to go back and check it out around Christmas time!

By Joyce R |

Everyone was so nice. I Love how they have kept the original buildings going with all different shops. Great and Pleasant place to visit.

By Maria C |

We took a walking tour around the beautiful downtown. There are many eateries, bars, shops, and nice people.

By Kim D |

Downtown Franklin was a blast to wander in and out of so many different types of stores, including antiques, art, gifts, boutiques, bath, oils, etc.! I really enjoyed the historic Landmark Booksellers store and could have spent hours and much $$$ there, but they didn't like my young grandson so his parents wanted to moved along. The ice cream stores were wonderful with many unique flavors, and the town square was so classic with historic cannons and signs to explain the history. My favorite meal while there was at Izzy's. The server was so friendly and brought water for our dogs. We loved sitting outside on the patio. And the hot chicken on a waffle with bacon jam was fantastic, better than any we had in Nashville! This is such a wonderful community I would like to return just to check out Franklin and maybe the real estate!

By Kent H |

Much larger than I thought it would be. Lots of shoes for “her”

Not many many for the guys but several man benches for us. Some cool restaurants. Much better than I thought. You can easily take 3 hours shopping and exploring. Nicely done

By Rebekajean |

Loved the original art, spice shop, housewares, antiques, bookstore and historic surroundings. So nice to see a variety of shops without the overbearing presence of chain stores. We walked around the square and down several streets, stopped for a snack and enjoyed reading the variety of posted history plaques around town. Church bells rang out the time each hour.
Free parking in the garage was a bonus. We will return.

By WarmerPlaces |

It is a collection of higher end clothing shops and eateries. The buildings are beautiful but the town proper is nothing more that a quick walk up and down the street unless you stay and take the walking tour.

By jgbtravels |

Generally Franklin is one of our favorite places to visit yet some of the businesses we have visited in the past are no longer there. It’s still fun and very busy but I suspect Covid has had an effect. The last time we came in October there seemed to be more Halloween decorations but not so this trip. It took less time to visit all the downtown shops than in the past. We came away empty handed. On the plus side there’s plenty of history here, free parking, nice restaurants and truly friendly people.

By Julie |

Lots of fun shops and little restaurants to enjoy. Wish we had allowed more time to spend wandering the streets.

By Norma W |

Cute downtown. We had planned to check out a couple shops downtown but it was bumper-to-bumper traffic & we couldn't find a parking spot - especially one where we didn't have to walk too far in the terrible heat!

By vcapps |

Such a cute town!!!! We enjoyed looking at all the old buildings and walking around. We will go back!

By nina r |

Variety of shops, clean streets, friendly vendors, historic buildings and homes. Architecturally interesting. Good girls trip.

By Phil R |

Downtown Franklin has it all stores, plenty of restaurants and small town atmosphere - all within a 4 block area.

By Debs2134 |

Picked up a walking guide from the visitor centre and walked around historic houses on W Main St and Fair St. A beautiful evening and very pleasant walk.

By Buddy H |

Beautiful town especially this time of year!! Great shops and restaurants to visit as well as some galleries.

Puckett’s restaurant has wonderful food.

By SeriousSDTraveler |

Such charm and quaint appeal. Every drive around the square gave a view of the tree installation awaiting decorations. Too bad we couldn’t stay longer. Franklin has a great small town feel of home. Love it!

By anacotton27 |

Cute little town. We actually stop for lunch not realizing that there was a festival going on. Lots of food trucks and local vendors. It was a fun experience.

By Teri C |

While visiting Nashville for a few days we made a side trip to Nashville. We loved the shops, the people were so nice and I bought a dress to return to work in a school. I think our trip to Franklin was my favorite part of our trip!

By jgabit |

A great stop for a walk around town. Interesting shops and a well preserved square. Walking Tours available daily.

By jkantiques |

Lots of fun shops and places to eat in beautiful downtown Franklin TN. UNlike some towns the variety was great without lots of repeats. We especially liked Tazikis for our lunch.

By TRacy P |

When traveling I like to stay in and visit quaint downtowns. Franklin is by far one of the best I have ever visited!!

By Donna H |

I love everything about Franklin. My daughter and I went to the Grand Ole Opry, but we always stay in Franklin. There are so many nice places to stay and wonderful places to eat. I hope to be coming back several times this fall for special events.

By Napunani |

We were delighted to have the opportunity to spend just a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon at the 35th Annual Dickens of a Christmas in downtown Franklin.
It was WONDERFUL. Everything was beautifully decorated and there were numerous people in period costumes!
We were disappointed we didn't realize this was happening so we could have planned to spend more time.
Nonetheless, we will be BACK!

By pkst2016 |

Make sure to spend some time walking downtown Franklin. We ate here, did some tours, then came back and walked around for a while.
Don’t expect to do major shopping like you would at outlet mall. It’s more relaxed and expect to find things you wouldn’t find elsewhere.
We went off the main block a few times there’s lots of neat stores down the side streets as well.

By wazzaw123 |

The bustling city of Franklin , a town renowned for Civil War History is certainly a place to visit when next in Tennessee. We took the Gray Line Franklin Civil War Tour from Nashville which is a convenient way to see all 3 Historical Homes and the city of Franklin. A bid day tour of some 16 hours with a early pick up so come prepared for a long tour. Great commentary during the trip. Franklin's main traffic roundabout a must see...so don't miss out!

By Wfrancis25 |

Great day trip from Nashville.Cute little town with great shopping and restaurants. We had brunch at Biscuit Love (biscuits and sausage gray was great… and the Fruit Tea was my favorite)

By learsisrael |

Small but so pretty to walk through. Many restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream, chocolate shops, specialty stores and so much more.

By KARLA |

What a beautiful town.Beautiful shops, nice range of restaurants.Enough parking to be had.The only thing I found problematic...most of the shops closed at 5p.m.It would be nice if they stayed open later. But I still enjoyed this town and will be back.Stop by the Frothy Monkey..it won't disappoint

This little town is charming, full of fun shops and restaurants. A good leisurely walking on a lovely day. Will definitely be back!

By Sonya S |

The downtown area is a great place to walk around to shops and restaurants. They were having a holiday stroll and some of the shops were open later. It is easy to walk around and they also have a parking garage that is free. Everyone was nice and friendly. We will definitely go back in the future. We didn't get to explore some of the historical sites and I would love to do that.

By Patty B |

Did the Franklin battle tours and spend the rest of the day downtown. The shops are quaint and the restaurants are plentiful. Perfect day trip

By Shamrock |

Quaint downtown with interesting shops and boutiques and great restaurants. Went to 55 South for brunch and the shrimp and grits was great. Other good restaurants for breakfast/brunch: Puckett’s and Biscuit Love. Lovely town.

By Bodasa |

We live here and still never tire of the walk-around in Franklin. Franklin still holds its old town charm. There are ice cream shops and little boutiques, churches, coffee shops where you can sit with your best friend, the Franklin theatre, great restaurants, and you will meet some of the sweetest and most welcoming people. Read about Franklin before you visit; it will make your trip even better.

By Carol S |

Super cute downtown, delightfully restored & maintained. Lots of cute restaurants and shops, and importantly with plenty of parking.

By Jotum |

We were here the week of Christmas and loved strolling along the streets and browsing in all the shops ranging from upscale to antique shops. A guy was playing a violin on one corner and several guys were playing brass instruments on another one.

By Susan M |

We had a fun time here and will definitely return to see the sights Picketts was great as was their food

By Leigh-Ann M |

We spent two hours on a walking tour of historic downtown Franklin this morning, and it was a wonderful experience. We are residents, and have family here from Utah - our ages range from 60-8, and every single one of us loved it! Our tour guide, Alicia, was informed, clever, entertaining, and engaging. We loved every minute...and then our ten year old daughter was so inspired that she came home and spent the next two hours researching one of the historic Franklin residents we learned about, and wrote a “report” all about her.

By FellowTraveler829024 |

My wife and I seen this town on Southern Accents and fell in love with the town and it did not disappoint.

By Bonnie O |

It is not Williamsburg’s or Disney World. It is not pretend. It is a community that preserves its past architectural quality but lives a life of continuous interest today. History is appreciated and it certainly has plenty of history to share. It is a gem!

By craig b |

Great event for families or couples. Had a fabulous dinner at the Red Pony and great lunch at McCreary's Irish Pub & Eatery.

By VKS57 |

We really loved the town of Franklin. We came to a play at a local venue. We spent an afternoon in this quaint town. We were most impressed about how clean and well-maintained it was. There are several restaurants and shops to visit there. The traffic was not bad either. Very impressive area.

By Room2roam1 |

We were in town for happenings in Nashville and read in the paper about the Main Street Festival going on in Franklin so we thought we would head over and check it out. WOW! What a cute town, great shops, restaurants and beautiful homes to daydream about living in..The festival was awesome! Very well planned out and lots to do for all ages. What a great day spent in a very nice town. Highly recommend it as a nice break from Nashville if you have a car.

By Fontes |

Such a wonderful area to spend the afternoon right outside of Nashville. Lots of small shops, restaurants, etc. Love Downtown Franklin. Several AirBnB's in the area to choose from as well!

By cindyloo31 |

Downtown was beautifully decorated for Christmas! When visiting during the holidays, be sure to visit downtown during the evening when the Christmas lights are lit up in the shops and streets - reminded me of a backdrop for a Hallmark movie!!!

Lots of different shops - my favorites included the vintage shop and spice shop. Plenty of restaurants downtown, easy parking and fun places to stop in and look!

By Vivacat12 |

We visited Franklin after reading the great reviews about this town.
It isn't too far from Nashville and it was certainly a worthwhile visit.
The high street is very cute, immaculate with lovely little bespoke shops and restaurants ranging from an excellent t shirt shops to a home/general store.
Parking is easy and free.
It is also has lots of information on the civil war.
It is extremely picturesque and the locals are very friendly.
Please note the shops don't open to 10am.

By jsdejn |

Did a great walking tour with Maggie, mainly about the civil war. Very instructive and interesting. We didn't walk far so it's not physically taxing apart from it was extremely hot.

By Ira B |

We walked around in the downtown area and found interesting shops and historic sites. We particularly like a spice shop, locally owned and very nice.

By Getaway622583 |

Love Franklin! Quaint shopping, great restaurants!!! Beautiful homes and lots of civil war history and more. Fun festivals-Elvis Festival. Great to walk around

By Kelly D |

Downtown Franklin feels a bit like stepping back in time or returning to one's small hometown. Interesting shops line the street along with a number of dining establishments. Whether you want to stroll and browse or find a seat along the street and people watch, you will enjoy the experience.

By RollTide77 |

If you are visiting Nashville, downtown Franklin is a great place to go to get away from the crowds. There are excellent shops and restaurants all within walking distance. You can parallel park or park in the parking garage for free.

By travellp4 |

Downtown Franklin has it all. There are some very good restaurants to try, you could fill a week of great dining. There are wonderful bakeries and the cutest shops to visit. It's worth the trip if you're in the area, it's also great for walking.

By BoBoChipper |

We didn’t get to spend very much time here but there were some cute shops that I would like to visit. The very bad side is the area is small, the sidewalks are narrow, and there are a ton of people. We had to walk in the road to move as people would just stop and talk and there is no where to go. All the places to eat are tiny and the lines were all out the door. If you are going to visit, find an odd time as I would not recommend otherwise.

By GreenbrierBuckeye |

A lot of good shops and restaurant options. Free parking is fantastic on 2 city owned garages. Landmark Books is great and is a little ways off from the square.

By Travelcato |

Great little town. Quaint shops and friendly locals! Just outside Nashville. Worth a stop away from the city. Nice drive too!

By cabOFallon |

What a wonderful and welcoming place to spend Christmas. We wandered up and down the streets and enjoyed our stops in the boutique shops and wonderful eateries.

By Gary S |

This is a cute little town. Several shops to go into including a spice shop that was wonderful. Several places to eat. Very nice people all around.

By Jeremy D |

Check out any reputable "Best of" publication, and Franklin, TN, is generally in the top choices. Organizations from Money to WalletHub recognize the quaint character and appeal of this step back in time. Their annual street festivals are many and worth it, and the over-all attraction to this little gem of a town is the dedication to preservation and pleasantries. My personal food favs include Merridee's Breadbasket and 55 South. There are many options for food and fun around Franklin, but Merridee's Breadbasket is the taste of character I really enjoy so much about this "friendliest town in America." They have great baked items...I personally love their Peanut Butter Pie, with specialty coffees and drinks, and a great assortment of breakfast pastries and breads for every taste. Try their tuna melt...you won't regret it. Around the corner from Merridee's Breadbasket is 55 South...a great place for wings and Margaritas...I mean that. You have to try their wings! They are in my top five for quality hometown wings. There's so much to see in Franklin...not sure there would be enough space to do a full review of Downtown Franklin...you just have to make it a trip stop...for several days.

By Lee Ann B |

This is a cute town to spend a day! Alot of shops and restraunts. We enjoyed the shops & bakery, starbucks, pucketts.

By RJ J |

Rural, small, dead, kind of racist, and very little diversity. Good for older white people looking to retire, but I wouldn't recommend living/visiting here with kids, teenagers, young adults, or people who like the city.

By Lynne A |

We parked at the Carter Museum and walked to Main St. downtown Franklin. There are lots of clothing boutiques, eclectic shops, restaurants, a delicious bakery and a delectable spice shop where I was able to buy some local culinary spices and sauces to take back home. The trees are just beginning to bloom and the city is clean and very historic looking- feels like stepping back in time. Enjoyable way to get acquainted with Franklin and its history. There are signs to read about the history of Franklin all along the route.

By jasonmcbride6108 |

The art crawl is the best. Stop by the Parks Real Estate office next to the theater and they are great host for the town. Every time we visit from Alabama we love the walking downtown here (great restaurants also)

By jeffrey m |

Specifically drove down to attend this festival. Very pretty downtown, tons of period correct dressed actors really made for a nice fun time. We found quite a few interesting unique items to purchase from local stores and vendors, everyone was we delt with were very friendly and helpful. Now The down side, lack of restroom facilities for the huge crowd this event draws in! Long lines at the limited areas where they had porta potties, I've been to much smaller events that had twice the facilities that were here. We heard quite a few people that have been to the festival in the past that were not happy and disappointed that there were not near as many vendors as in years past. Apparently the stores on the block of the theater complained about vendors setting up in front of their businesses so they would not allow anyone to set up on that block, kind of a shame since this event brings this amount of traffic to the downtown and they take away from those who loved all the extra vendors.

By snooze56 |

If you like small, cute towns, you'll love Franklin. Their main street is chockfull of cutesy stores offering cutesy wares. Girls, they even have a bar offering to take care of your husbands while you shop! Spend a relaxing afternoon wandering down the street.

By Jim B |

This isn't a quaint town out in rural Tennessee, but basically a suburb of Nashville. Still, the old downtown core has the feel of a quaint small town. It is several blocks of shops and restaurants. Some have complained about chain stores but we didn't really notice that. What we found were more unique stores with products we don't see all of the time. It's nice to see a vibrant small town out here since there are many others that aren't.

By maryfaithroell |

So many shops!! If you. Any find there, you weren’t looking hard enough. Ha ha. Live Music playing while your shopping, how fun is that

By Rosilyn53 |

We love all the shops they have a lot of variety to choose from .Some of the best times is when they have there city fest in the winter Large dogs with masters that is is site to see , People dressed in clothes like the early 1900"s and restaurants are very good!

By Gary S |

You will experience the warmth of the locals all over downtown Franklin! It is a wonderful little town with plenty to see and do! They have done a great job of preserving the city and its roots! I do not see how anyone could ever be disappointed in downtown Franklin!

By donnar4000 |

Franklin has great food, great shopping and great entertainment!! Downtown is very walkable. Yet a lot to see driving around also.

By alancZ2566CN |

We visited Franklin to tour the civil war homes and grounds but was so impressed with Franklin I could spend the time just visiting downtown. The town is one of the most prettiest in the state and very tourist friendly. We will be back !!

By lmcdonald32 |

We stayed in Franklin for a night prior to flying home. We drove into town for dinner. I absolutely loved Franklin! It is a historical town with a small town feel. Lots of shops with products in all price ranges. Lots of restaurants, in all different price ranges. We walked the town after dinner and just really enjoyed it. If you have a chance, go explore.

By MNice |

We came down from Minnesota in April to see Nashville for the first time. We booked our hotel in Franklin and saw all the big sights, then we started poking around Franklin as we had booked Suzy Boggus at the Franklin Theater, which, by the way, is fabulous. Downtown Franklin is a beautiful space, so historic, clean and beautiful. We realized when we were here that we missed tons of stuff such as the Carter House, Lott House and the East Flank Battlefield. So we returned and drove the entire Natchez Trace and finished off at the Loveless Cafe. Tonight we returned to the elusive Downtown Franklin as we always forget to make reservations at Grays or one of the other spectacular restaurants. We waited outside the Americana Tap Room for half an hour with tons of tables open as did another couple. So, tomorrow, we will find a spot with reservations. We walked around and got up to speed on many of the plaques which encircle downtown. The plaque which explains the cannons in the downtown square was my most interesting. Park on one of the side streets if you are from out-of-town and stroll the downtown sidewalks the moment you arrive. We love this place, but have never ventured down here in the summer heat. The Franklin battle occurred in November; no wonder, what a place to March in July like Vicksburg. We’ve had a great historic ride this week and the historic downtown really pulled it together for us. We really enjoy this area, but too hot for us Northerners.

By glassymom |

Downtown Franklin has a variety of options for everyone. There are many restaurants, shops, antiques, historic walks. If you are into history Franklin is steeped in it yet has enough new to keep you coming back.

By LiketoeatCincinnati |

This is a very historic civil war era town. They have nice shops and restaurants. It was getting crowded on a Monday afternoon about 4:30. We didn’t stay long but will return in the future to do more here.

By Gigi |

There are a variety of shops and eateries as well as a bit of history. Easy parking and shopping that will please every age.

By snowone123 |

Nice place to visit for lunch at a local cafe and shopping or window shopping. Nice to walk in the back neighborhoods to see the beautiful homes as well.

By PJliketotravel |

This place is amazing. Great old downtown area with lots of shops and a hometown feel! Plenty of cafes and things to do.

By Angela |

Downtown Franklin is very quaint and beautiful! The local shops were awesome with unique gifts! This is a must do while in Franklin!

By Kelly H |

We parked on the outskirts of the circle, and walked through the center. It was a great collection of little shops, restaurants, books stores, etc.

By GHZ2011 |

Franklin is very quaint and inviting. Parking wasn’t hard to find and you can easy walk the Main Street area as it’s relatively compact. Cute boutiques beckon you in, however we arrived around 6 on a Friday and more than half the stores were closed. Live music on the street in a couple places added to the atmosphere. Would certainly recommend stopping here!

By gormer |

It's getting a bit over-gentrified, yes, and some of the shops are a little ridiculously botique-y, but for sheer loveliness, this is the place to be.

By sun4fun |

Fabulous historical town. Lots to see if you don’t mind walking. Good eats everywhere. My favorite walking side streets to see old homes.

By mammiepoppy |

What a great area - make sure you stop by the Williamson County Museum - it's free and very interesting. Lots of historical things to see - great atmosphere.

By phl2azo |

There is so much to see and do in Franklin! And the downtown area is full of fun shops and restaurants. Super cute main street and it was beautifully decorated for fall when we were there. One of the posters I saw said that they decorate for Christmas and people dress up historically and sing carols. I would love to go back for that!

By JKDay |

I have wanted to visit here ever since I saw an article about Franklin in Country Living Magazine. It was every bit as charming and fun as the article said! Cute shops, attractive historic buildings and a friendly vibe all over town. Perfect way to spend a day!

We visited and spent the day in Franklin. Great little town with shops and restaurants. Was recommended to us and definitely worth the visit. Had lunch at Meriden breadbasket super popular spot with good homemade food and then we went to visit a plantation house.

Love going to franklin! There is great shopping great place to eat is Puckett’s! Good place to get ice cream and candy! Also they have a old treater that shows good movies ! A lot of stores are pet friendly so you can have your pets with you! Love franklin!

By MarthaS |

Main Street Franklin is full of good shopping and places to eat but the antiques are a few blocks away and all easily within walking distance. I especially like Scarlet Scales. The selection and prices there are both good for accessories and accent pieces.

What a sweet town. Awesome shops, nice folks and great restaurant selections. Clean. Lots of parking options.

Lovely small town with a big heart! Many shop, bars and restaurants to keep you busy for a solid day or more.

My husband and I just visited family in Franklin for a few days. On Saturday, we went to the Pumpkinfest which included a costume parade, many street tents with vendors selling local craft items, and an extensive kid zone. It was a very busy day in downtown Franklin. On Sunday we returned to downtown Franklin. Again, it was a very busy day with couples, singles and families strolling the main street. There were street musicians. The main activity seemed to be visiting the upscale shops, historic sites and small eateries. Late Sunday afternoon we attended Mass @ St. Philip’s Church right in the downtown. This is a very scenic, historic city near Nashville. Highly recommend spending a say there.

Franklin is an easy drive from Nashville. We had researched The Lotz House so that was our primary goal. After finishing our GREAT tour, we walked on down to Franklin to enjoy the heritage and historical buildings.

By Julie B |

Parking in garage or the street was the option. 2 hour parking on street. All shops along the Main Street have many options for everyone. Ice cream, food, clothes. Be aware that most shops close at 5PM so limited shopping after that. Starbucks on the corner at the end of shopping was perfect. Great times

By Clodge |

Lovely to stroll up and down the high town, eclectic shops, bars and restaurants. Lots of history to observe in town too.
Was specially magical because Christmas decorations glistened everywhere.

By Dorinka00 |

Very impressive town. Clean, historical town with great shops and friendly people, interesting Civil War sites to visit. Worth your time to visit.

By Kathy D |

My family walked through the streets by day and again by night. By day, we appreciated the architecture, especially the brick walls, the tin ceilings, the quaint signage, and the spacious town square. By night, we admired the lighting, the decor, the music, and some delicious ice cream. We also explored the old town cemetery by night, which was an oddly fascinating experience.

We were recommended Franklin by an Nashville native
It is such a quaint little town with a Main Street
We arrived early and so hard no issue parking near the church
We ate breakfast at a cafe on one of the side streets
Thus town has such lovely independent shops such as a general home store and a great t shop
Locals were so friendly so no one it’s so regarded so highly by locals

Relax and enjoy the shops and restaurants—(I ate at Bisquit Love, yummy). Take in a live show at the Franklin Theatre, established in 1937, beautifully refurbished. Take your time!

By Smiles4miles |

Downtown Franklin is so much fun and so charming. There are numerous restaurants, including Pucketts, plus the Franklin Theater and many interesting shops. A few blocks off the main street is the antique district where you can find several antique stores and fun PD"s (by JJ Ashley's). PD's has new interior furnishings at highly discounted prices. Love it! After shopping, be sure to drive around town and take in all the historic homes and churches.

We were in Cool Springs for a gymnastics competition and we decided to explore Franklin, TN. What an absolute treat. Friendly people, beautiful old Main Street that has been updated with modern shops and restaurants. It is the perfect blend of old and new that makes you feel right at home.
Totally worth the time to park and wonder, even with young kids!
We ate at 55 South - definitely recommended by this family!

A wide variety of shops are located around the downtown square in Franklin, TN. The employees at each of the shops were friendly and helpful.

If you want to see some specialty shops and take in some local cuisine, Franklin is the town for you. It’s a great little town that offers several shops for a variety of shopping. There are several restaurants to choose for when you get hungry and the parking isn’t too bad at all. I would definitely recommend stopping in and checking it out.

By Shelleybelk |

We started our visit to the Nashville area in Franklin. Quaint streets to meander down, shops to pop in and out of, fabulous restaurants and cafes to visit whether you're looking for a full meal or just cocktails for the afternoon. I could definitely get lost again here!

Charming Downtown Franklin is West of I65 and is rich in history.

Home to lots of great little sundry shops and boutiques. Also great stores too. There are coffee shops, bakery’s and ice cream parlors on a few corners. You can’t leave hungry. Some really great restaurants on Main Street.

Stop by the tourist office and pick up a map. It will tell you all of the historical sites about the town. Walking trails. Look on the calendar for Downtown Franklin. There is always something going on.

By Philip C |

Very nice historical Town Square with several historical marker surrounding the area. Shopping on both sides of the main road gas everything from food to momentos, to the unique must have gift. Parking on street was 2hr only, but other options were available, can be busy around lunch time. Check closing times (5pm) for most stores, but great day out.

By rpears144 |

It’s been 5 years since our last visit but Franklin maintains it small town charm. Great food and shopping. Outstanding historical sites and other activities that will keep you busy all weekend

By ken m |

Nice small main street with many shops and restaurants to visit. Not far from the battlefields and reflects the history of that time.

By Karen L |

Such a charming town! We enjoyed the Franklin on Foot walking tour then revisited many places, including the Gallery 202!

By Carol M |

Terrible!! Festivals are nothing like they used to be yrs ago!!! Few Decent vendors most seemed like info booths. The food a joke. 5 food Places to actually grab a bite. 30 min wait for a $17 hamburger with a kid size chip. Not sure who was in charge of running this event but that’s outrageous and tasted like 50/50 if it was even hamburger. You wanna beer? I used to work the beer at past events when adults could actually be adults. Now you stand in a pen to drink your beer because they’re to cheap to put a few police on so people can enjoy themselves and walk around. They have a couple security guards at the beer pen to babysit. if you wanna have a festival, make it enjoyable!!! decent affordable food not handing you slop and making $15 off off a greasy cheap burger. have decent vendors and allow adults to actually walk around with a beer. If you need to hire a couple rent a cops do it. Was people just walking around like robots. Will never go down there again or recommend to anyone

Most happening place in franklin.
Most of the good restaurant are available there.
You can spend couple of hours there and could be a starting point for Franklin travel.

By ywurry |

Americans will call it a city, but the Brits would call it a town. A lovely quaint small place it is indeed with some great shops and restaurants/cafes. Really everything to do with shopping is along one street with a few small shops off side roads There are other historical areas within the town as it is rich in Civil War history with a main memorial and four canon forming a small roundabout (a roundabout is a rare sight in the USA).

Spent quite a while just walking around the town and soaking up the ambience and atmosphere.

By grpandnana |

Downtown Franklin as a mix of old and new. The older part is beautiful with character. The newer part is being mDe to look old but does not quite make it.
Older family owned stores are being priced out by chains which is sad, chains belong in malls, not historical downtowns.
Cities all over the country should make efforts to keep our mom and pop stores alive.
Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream, bakeries, etc.
Lovely.

By Wylietravel |

A great place to just wander around & enjoy all the little shops. You will find some tasty restaurants that are local as well as Mellow Mushroom & Tazikis. The spice shop there is wonderful with so many fresh spices to try. Be sure and check out The Harpeth Hotel (Hilton Curio Collection) if you are needing a place to stay……wonderful hotel!

By 304kathrynt |

I was in Franklin on business and decided to take a drive to historic downtown Franklin. I am glad I did. What a beautiful, quaint and charming area. I suggest you park your car and walk it (it's very walkable). There are restaurants, gift ships, thrift shops, and a beautiful square. Grays on Main is a must restaurant. Slightly different spin on food, but very good!!!

By LittleMiss99 |

This place has a lot of nice little shops but they are extremely pricey bring your money if you come to this place

By lchambliss |

Enjoyed a few hours walking through the historic downtown district. the street is lined with local shops. Ladies shops are the main type, but there are a couple of cool places guys would like as well. Frankln Road, at one end of the street, has a ton of really cool merch, some of it based on racing gear. Theres a ladies area there too but I didnt see that section.

There is plenty to see and do in downtown Franklin. To mention a few of the many locally owned shops where you will find unique items, try Avec Moi, White’s Mercantike, or Plianthropy, or the chain brands you love and know like Chico’s, Starbucks, and Mello Mushroom. There are so many great options for dining downtown - Gray’s on Main and Puckett’s Boat House are two of my favorites. Biscuit Love recently opened in Franklin and is definitely a must visit! Make sure to order the bonuts, you won’t be disappointed. There are also other unique stores like Landmark Booksellers with thousands of books and rare finds too and the Savory Spice. Make sure to stop there to sample all the spices you want! Don’t for get the art scene, Gallery 202 is worth the stop with beautiful art throughout the gallery housed in a historic building.

There are plenty stores and restaurants to keep you shopping for days and it’s one of the best Main Streets around. Charm, southern hospitality, and so many options. The only issue is the parking and it can be challenging if the garages are full.

Make sure to add downtown Franklin to your list when you are visiting Nashville, you won’t be disappointed! Stop by the Visitors Center on 4th and Main for maps and additional information.

Lots of boutique shops, dining and drinks in historic atmosphere. We had a great day seeing it all and leaving some of our money here ;)

By ArKrWa |

Amazing shops. Great restaurants. Easy to walk. Only downside is having to carry all those purchases! :)

By Marilyn S |

We took this tour on a cold Saturday morning. Our guide Margie, was knowledgeable and informative while being personable. The tour was 2 hours in length and a nice way to get to know the town

By Margaret S |

We stayed in Franklin on a Friday night and hoped to eat in the town after booking an economy hotel on the outskirts. The town was very pretty and looked like the restaurants would be good BUT ... there was no parking and other cars were circling looking for a spot. Nice though it appeared, we simply gave up rather than deal with traffic and the implication taht the better restaurants would be full.

By FamilyTripPlanner66 |

If you ever wanted to walk into a hallmark movie, this is the place. Small specialty shops, ice cream, candy shops & old time theater. My favorite was Savory spice. So many spice you can’t find at groceries like Whole Foods or trader joe.

By Commited_Traveller |

This is a pretty historic town with lots of references to the confederacy. Lots of nice shops and restaurants.

By T. Price |

We went for a 36 hour getaway. So glad we did! We really enjoyed the Franklin by Foot walking tour. That is a MUST! Stayed at the Magnolia House BnB and went to Leiper's Distillery.

By grpandnana |

I love old towns, I love the history, the mom and pop type stores, and the people around.
Franklin is very cute, quaint and definitely delights - for now.
Unfortunately, progress has found Franklin. Cute mom and pop stores are being replaced by chains and higher priced stores. Developers are busy trying to put property on every postage size lot.
Too bad, it is perfect just as it is.

By Amy B |

Bluegrass festival was going on music and vendors set up around the square this weekend. lots of unique shops to check out. Several good restaurants to choose from, charming town, pretty landscape.

By MominOC |

wear your walking shoes and enjoy the history with markers throughout the town to read. Plenty of cute restaurants and shops. At this time of year parking was not a problem.

By Cathie C |

Went to visit family. Had a lovely time strolling along the main street and enjoying some great shopping and food!! A nice spot with nice people!!

By jgbtravels |

We, unlike a recent reviewer, actually think Franklin is one of the most charming small towns we have visited. And we come here a number of times. Sure some of the shops are pricey but there’s still a lot to love about the hospitality of the people, the unusual finds, the restaurants, the architecture, and the history of the Civil War here. Where many small towns are barely surviving Franklin thrives. It probably helps with its proximity to Nashville and the fact that it was named at one time as having the second highest per capita income in the nation. Then again as a Civil War buff I am drawn to this community.

By pfcoach |

Charming & quaint old architecture has been restored well. Town squares/circles provide more interest. Unfortunately, crass, touristy commercialism is prevailing. Otherwise this seems like a very nice town.

By Wanda K |

We went on a balmy November day to visit the shops here. There were some really unique ones, and we enjoyed visiting to see all the variety. It wasn't really crowded, and that was nice, too.

By Alexis |

This was our second trip to Franklin. Here for a family wedding, we loved walking around historic downtown. We were in and out of quaint shops and did a little shopping too. Throughly enjoyed the visit and hope to return! Lots to see, free parking (what a treat!!) and found the locals to very welcoming.

By Jan I |

We loved this place. The designers and developers put some real thought into it. Can’t wait to go back some day. Tours were awesome

By Lloyd E M |

Expect it to be busy..it is. Lots of nice shops and restaurants. Very crowded. Parking can be a problem. Nice place to explore. Probably best for a girls shopping day. Except...very good restaurants, so the guys will like that. Fun place.

By JLONTOOSH |

this is a lovely wee town, lots of eating places , good shops , free carparking and a relaxing place to walk around

By ericalindsey |

We decided to stop in Franklin on our way to the airport. There wasn't a ton to do and the July heat was sweltering, so we unfortunately weren't able to stay long. However, this cute town was definitely worth the stop and short walk around.

By Randy S |

Downtown is certainly designed for walkers and there are plenty of shops, upscale and not, and ample dining options from obscure chains to thriving independent restaurants. We visited on 2 consecutive days and found it easy to get around. Orient yourself, though. The town is not laid out on a north-south grid. Everything revolves around the roundabout at the town square with city and county offices to the east. It's a great place to spend a day. Don't miss the Visitors Center.

By Ruth H |

Weekend with friends and we all enjoyed franklin. Some did old houses and history others did main street shopping. Great shops with interesting finds. Not a lot of diversity in styles or sizes and nothing for husbands but still a nice afternoon with friends.

By soldoutjcforever |

Absolutely enjoyed every minute walking the streets of downtown Franklin! So many wonderful places to eat, Pucketts being first on my list! Lots of delightful shops to browse through. Hearts and Hands was one of my favorites, where everything is handmade. Literally, some of THE most adorable things there.
Every shop we entered we were met with a smile. Truly enjoyed my visit there. When you get done browsing the downtown area, make sure to visit all of the Civil War attractions. They aren't far and will be well worth your time. We purchased a 3 in 1 ticket at the Visitors Center downtown that was a great value for The Carter House, The Lotz House and Carnton Plantation.

By Robin747474 |

Definitely worth a visit to have lunch and do a little shopping. Higher end shops and boutiques with elegant unique items. We liked the town so much we decided to stay the night and visit it again in the morning. We found a great Airbnb close to town. A little like a combination of aspen and the highlands NC.

By Steve R |

The old downtown is still vibrant! Has lots of small shops and many great restaurants. Very walkable - we use the free parking garage and stroll around the four blocks plus the circle. Museum and visitor center at one end and our favorite bookstore at the other end.

By gabil20182018 |

Franklin is everyone’s favorite day trip. If you’re lucky, you might even get to live in this charming town. Young families, multi-generation families, retiree families; they’re all here. It’s the perfect blend of transplants and locals, all of whom like to testify to how much they love the area. ♥️

By Laurie B |

Loved this visit to this town! Quaint but upscale, Lots of activity going on! What a progressive town that knows how to draw in tourists!

By Bev8789 |

We visited family here and went to historic Franklin. Wonderful old buildings with plenty of shops and restaurants to discover. A bit difficult finding parking but we found a spot on a side street. We had lunch at The Grilled Cheeserie ( not available yet to review on Trip Advisor but I have notified them) and after a nice lunch some family members shopped next door at the Tin Cottage where they found a cute gift. We will explore more on our next visit.

By vellpiro1800 |

There are many quaint shops with interesting items to browse. Many storefronts/restaurants are very pretty as well as the residences. Many buildings exceptionally beautiful . Added plus is that you can park on the street and in the garages for free on a Sunday. Restaurants extremely busy and not all open on Sunday which is when we went. So plan ahead if looking for a certain restaurant.

By walter h |

Quaint "little town" atmosphere with lots of unique shops and resaurants. Has plenty of free parking and lots of traffic. Great walking visit.

By travelhound3 |

We were very impressed with this town. The streets were very charming and it was easy to walk around. There are a lot of shops and great restaurants here. We ate at 55 South and loved the food and atmosphere there. I hope folks in our town will come to see this place to get ideas on how to better develop our downtown.

By Barbara L |

I was very disappointed. There were hardly any shops to go into. A lot of higher end clothing shops and little else. Kind of boring

By 10ringtraveler |

Nice day trip down to the Franklin area. So nice to see the old buildings preserved and used. Plenty of shops and restaurants. Great area. Free parking is nice.

By frozentundratrav2016 |

Great time strolling the streets. Some of my favorites are white mercantile and Puckett’s grocery. The small book store down the block was s nice surprise. Everyone had fun!

By Beth A |

We were there on a rainy day, so we spent most of our time driving around, but it was a fun one-day trip away from Nashville. Don't miss the cool old cemetary on the outskirts of town, too.
