We made a quick stop to this lighthouse and didn’t regret it. You’ll get some great pics and if you can try and make your way to the top. It’s a little walking from the road to here but it’s worth it. Very breezy once you’re at the top.

By RandyRoss |

The Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse at the end of north Water Street defines the entrance to the Harbor. The harbor is large and entered through a modest sized channel on the North side of Edgartown.
This lighthouse is certainly worth a photo stop.

By Jessica B |

This lighthouse and the surrounding area are just so beautiful and I could easily just sit and stare at the ocean for hours. During peak times of year I believe they open the lighthouse to the public for a small fee but it was closed when we went.

By BobC11743 |

Accessible - not the most awe inspiring lighthouse, but the "easy on off" aspect makes it a winner stop.

By Steven W |

Don’t come just for the lighthouse. The area and views near the lighthouse deserve some time. The homes around here are immaculate and maintain their flowers like you would not believe. We saw some of the largest roses I have ever seen.

By Jessica K |

This was a great walk and extra activity at the beach. Beautiful views from the top and fun to see the inside of a lighthouse. The beach is beautiful and not crowded. Worth the time if you are in Edgartown.

By pinkthis |

This light house doesnt just let the sailors know they are home...It let's me know too! I have such beautiful memories at this light house. From watching my son grow up at this beach for many summers to watching my beautiful friends get married here too. If I can make so many great memories here, so can you. It is a must see everytime you visit the Vineyard!

By Scout216girl |

A lovely lighthouse by the sea. We stopped to take pictures and get a closer look at the lighthouse. It was very beautifully situated by the sea and we also enjoyed visiting the rest of this quaint and gorgeous island.

By Bobbie W |

The Edgartown Lighthouse is best appreciated from the water. It’s so scenic and majestic. Definitely a photo op. Not to mention how wonderful it is to see Edgartown from the water.

By Lantai41 |

The light house located pretty close to city center. You need to access through a very narrow bike and moped lane going near the light house.

By Diana W |

Didn’t have to walk too far to get to this lighthouse. Only issue is it that is was closed, due to off season, would have been nice to have gone in and walked up to see the view, but it’s ok. Next time 😀

We rode the transit bus to the area and it wasn’t that far.

By emievents |

The Edgartown Fireworks Sparkle and Illuminate this special Lighthouse every year. The surrounding beach is a perfect place to watch them from. So bring your blankets and enjoy the LIGHT Show!!!!.

By teacher152015 |

When visiting Edgartown this is a place you must see. Views of the lighthouse, water and beach make it a great place for vacation pictures. It is most easily accessed from the end of Water Street. There are bike racks and a walking path to the lighthouse from there. You can walk all around the lighthouse and along the beach for quite a distance.

By HaileyE |

Was a really nice walk to the lighthouse and to the beach. Really enjoyed the scenery and very clean.

By Lolly’s Look |

The Edgartown Lighthouse is a small lighthouse that greets you as you pul into t harbor. We dinghy-ed over to the beach and explored the small lighthouse. You can climb to the top.

By damiano3261 |

We visited this historic lighthouse and the walk was nice and easy. The cost to walk up was a surprise at 5 bucks a person. I know its not alot of money but all you do is walk up and down and it could be maintained better. The person manning the lighthouse was nice and pleasant. The top had nice views of the beach and bluffs so good photo opportunity. Its a tourist thing to do so its done on our checklist.

By snow_beach |

This is a very scenic and beautiful spot to visit. One of 5 lighthouses on MV/Chappy. Easy to get to and easy to see right from the street. There are benches on the main street that you can sit and look out from. Very nice.

By Galewins2014 |

We strolled along the shore to the light and found it very relaxing. Not sure about parking because it was included in our hotel and we were able to walk over.

By SueM0712 |

Edgartown Lighthouse is a really cool landmark!!! It wasn't too long of a climb to the top (approx. 70 steps). Making it up there is its own reward, as the views are breathtaking:) If you're afraid of heights, try it anyway. While I don't think it's high, it may be for some people. If you do venture to the top, I suggest looking out rather than down.

There's a $5 admission charge. The associate (man) working there on 07/25 was very nice & let my friend try the climb first before paying (she opted not to go to the top), which was so nice of him (wish I'd gotten his name)!! There wasn't a guide at the top with any history that day, which was fine.

I forgot to ask if there's a stamp for people who have Passport Books.I got some really nice pictures though. Thank you!!

By 4Hairred |

Benn to MV twice and it wouldn't be a completed trip without a climb to the top !! Well maintained !! Climb to the top and take in the beautiful views !!!

By Claire T |

Definitely worth the $5 for the view and even more for the absolutely lovely man (I think he is the lighthouse-keeper) that was staffing it. Just to mention there is a small space you have to duck down to get out to the top so maybe difficult if you are very big and tall person!

By patrat236 |

The lighthouse and surrounding beach was picturesques in the distance, and even more so the closer we got. The guide was funny and informative. Well worth the five dollars to take te stairs to the top. The beach was not crowed as we went in June before the full vacation season got underway. The weather was beautiful....blue skies with a warm breeze. Loved it!

By Gil H |

Early morning, sunrise walk from the Harbor View Hotel. Magnificent. Shells and natural wonders. Special.

By wvillamil |

You are able to go inside during certain times of the day. I think it’s $7 per person to go up to the top.

By Ro W |

Easily accessible from Edgartown past some lovely houses this lighthouse is simply a treat. It provides quintessential New England flair and personality.

By Piccipiccichock |

The light house is beautiful and is located in a special place. But what is unforgettable is the music that accompanies your visit. The guardian, a very nice man is very very kind and explain the light house history and everything you are interesting to know about Marta's Vineyard!! Enjoy the view!!

By jmoeling |

A casual fairly easy stroll down the beach to the light. Great views of Edgartown Harbor. Not too much near it unless you are staying at the hotel. Seems like it would be a cool wedding venue if that was ppermitted.

By J-Wo-2 |

Loved an early morning run out to the lighthouse and took kids later in the day. Nothing to do there particularly as it was off season and all shut up and a good focal point

By LI2107 |

First off, do yourself a favor, and don't go to the vineyard in the winter. We were staying nearby in Plymouth and took a day trip to the vineyard the week before Thanksgiving. Most restaurants and things are closed. Our bus driver assured us that the lighthouse was open. So we walked down to it and were shocked at how small it was! We're from Texas, so I guess it's true what they say, everything is bigger in Texas! We walked down the beach and sure enough the lighthouse was closed. What a waste of a trip!

By Beebster 2021 |

Nice shops in town as well. Its great to walk around. Great photos- 1 of 5 light houses - great photo ops

By carole212 |

Quick and easy. This was a convenient way to get a bird’s eye view across Martha’s Vineyard and the Edgarton area and Chappy island. Worth the walk up the stairs. Even the walk out the lighthouse is a lovely experience.

By Yonnie E |

The lighthouse is a short walk from downtown Edgartown.

The beach is small and it faces the sound not the ocean. It is a better beach to bring small children compared to South Beach where the waves can get pretty rough.

During holiday season, South Beach is so packed that this beach is a better alternative if you do not wish to step over bodies sunbathing.

By Liz S |

Walking Water Street was nearly as magnificent and the scenic walk down to the lighthouse. Visiting in early May meant homes were all being spruced up for the summer residents. The smell of brilliant white paint and the brick sidewalk made for a lovely stroll to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is dedicated as a memorial to those children that have passed away and that being said, made the trek down to see it quite moving.

By AlexJackSquirt |

The lighthouse is easy to access and very easy to climb. Great view once you climb out onto the walkout.

By Anthony |

We have a beach theme to one of our bathrooms and of all the pictures we took from our trip, this landmark made the final cut. Tough to describe, like a sentry on the beach. Nice place for pictures.

By Joli G |

The cost is $5.00 for each person over 12. The climb is not too bad. There are about 50 stairs then a short ladder to get to the top then you have to crawl through a small door BUT the view is worth the effort. Just spectacular.

By Beth N |

I didn't actually go inside the lighthouse, but it was a spectacular venue for my niece's wedding. The photographer was Alex Paul Photography and the photographs were amazing!!

By rockwood13 |

During our trip to Martha's Vineyard in early May, my wife and I stopped for lunch at the Edgartown Lighthouse. This is a beautiful lighthouse abutting the ocean. It is across the street from the Harbor View Hotel on North Water Street. There is very limited parking right by the lighthouse but it is a short walk from Edgartown itself. We sat on benches up the sand path from the lighthouse and enjoyed our lunch. In May, it can be very windy here so make sure to bring a jacket if you choose to enjoy the view or if you walk down to the lighthouse or the beach around it.

By RickSkinnerTraveler |

A gentle walk from Edgartown. Beautiful views of the harbor. You can walk right up to the lighthouse. Not the case everywhere on MV. The sounds of the water and the seabirds filled the air.

By BML111 |

This is a nice walk out to the lighthouse from town and then to walk along the beach. The view either to Chappaquiddick or back towards the Harborview Hotel are breathtaking.

By Christopher L |

This is my favorite light house on the island. Situated on beach, it is an easy walk to get to from the main road. The beach isn't really used for swimming and generally not very populated. The lighthouse offers tours and people can climb to the top, during the season.

By KnitsbyConnie |

Once you find the entrance to the trail to get you to the lighthouse you are golden.
The flight up is fairly simple, no steep steps and then the ladder steps to get to the top, and you are there. The view is fabulous.

By 35yearsBraintree |

just a quick walk out to the lighthouse on the beach watching ships come in with a beautiful view for pictures Nice place to find all kinds of shells

By Tarah & Keith |

If you love lighthouses check this one out - it's a beautiful lighthouse in a lovely area. You'll be happy you went!

By NutbushNewbie |

Very nice lighthouse a very short walk from the charming town of Edgartown. Nice beach adjacent and beautiful homes overlooking sea. Chappaquidick is just across the straight from the lighthouse and Edgartown

By Brittany A |

The walk up water street is the epitome of Martha's Vineyard. The lighthouse didn't disappoint. So pretty, calm, relaxing once you're out there.

By ChanEvan |

After a wonderful Lunch @ Seafood Shanty, I walked along North Water Street admiring the stately 18th century Captain's houses & gardens in full bloom.

In front of the Harborside Inn are benches with a view of the Edgartown Lighthouse, in the middle of a protective peninsula. I walked the winding sand paths through the dunes & fragrant wild rose bushes to the landmark. It is well maintained & in a picturesque setting, the type that Artists search for.

I enjoyed the easy & scenic walk. There is a beautiful beach on the Left. To the right is Edgartown Harbor.

By jer b |

The lighthouse is located just across from the Harbourview Hotel and just a short walk from town. Definitely worth the walk. Lovely photo ops. Very pleasant walk down to the lighthouse (a bit of a slope and a bit rocky too, so good walking shoes). There you get another spectacular view of the lighthouse close range, the harbor, Chappy and the town of Edgartown. Great place to pause and reflect.

By Mai M |

What a lovely surprise! A short distance away from the busy shops & restaurants, the lighthouse is a must see destination in Edgartown. Follow the path through the foliage and you will be rewarded with a perfect photo opportunity. For a small fee you can climb to the top. Otherwise, take off your shoes and take time to enjoy the view.

By Jeneric94 |

We spent a bit of time in Edgartown. There are plenty of shops and good food. We enjoyed the walk past the ferry, through a nice neighborhood to the lighthouse and surrounding beach. Great view and pleasant, relaxing area.

By artwilliams7002 |

Views are world class and the sights are majestic. Bring a bottle of wine and your sweetheart. Don't go on a rainy day.

By Marty S |

I stayed at the Harbor View and walked out to the lighthouse to take pictures. It is a very short walk. I found it very relaxing to view the lighthouse and sail boats from the front porch of the hotel.Go at sunrise or sunset for the best photos.

By Diego S |

Easy access and beautiful lightpoint house to know and take beautiful photos!!! Nice view :) recommended

By Carrol D |

A little walk to get there, but very worthwhile. It is set among lovely scenery. The walk there is filled with beautiful homes typical of the area. Lovely gardens too.

By Brandon R |

Most beautiful lighthouse I've visited in New England. Stunning views, gorgeous beach and well maintained.

By Mike M |

Nice stroll down a path to this waterside lighthouse. Great views of the harbor as well as the beautiful homes that line the waterfront. Peaceful walk best done during daylight.

By R Lane |

One of the many lighthouses you should see while visiting MV. Worth the walk. Lovely side streets of Edgartown will lead your to the lighthouse.

By X3295CGstaceyb |

This is the second lighthouse that we've toured on the Vineyard. It is tucked away in Edgartown. $5 for adults to go in. We found street parking easily and it was only a short walk in. We wish we had carried in the beach chairs as there was a nice public beach there too.

By denver60 |

We snapped some lovely photos of the Edgartown Lighthouse - beautiful, quaint town & lovely area to visit. The lighthouse appeared deserted when we visited - would have liked to visit the top.

By bthom7010 |

This was my 1st time visiting a lighthouse after much fascination. It was what I expected. The tour guide gave a history and was very knowledgeable about this particular lighthouse. Well worth the $5 fee.

By amanda_m_renda |

We visited Edgartown on the off season and walked to the lighthouse on a whim. It was very windy out, but overall it was a pleasant walk with amazing views.

By Nomisnek |

Another fun thing do on the Vineyard. Go on a sunny day in the afternoon. Walk along the beach and appreciate the beauty of the island.

By Marnely M |

Perfect spot for a picnic on the beach, relaxed and quiet, I recommend this lighthouse to everyone visiting the island!

By 554evlynm |

Great little beach to watch the boats go by. Good view of Chappaquidick. Bring a picnic basket and spend the day.

By Janet C |

There is a path off the main street that follows the water that will take you to the lighthouse. It is between two houses so you have to look for it. You can walk out to the lighthouse and then down the beach and get off at the end of the beach into a neighborhood. Just gorgeous!

By Mike P |

Last of our Lights of MV tour around the island. Definitely can't recommend this one for disabled/wheelchair. it's a very long walk from the road to the light, lots of sand, and path that is barely single-file. Now, back to the Light review.... It was a very nice light, and beautiful views of the water. Tons and tons of shells along the shore for the kids to sift through.

By Melinda E |

This was the first lighthouse I visited when I arrived on Martha's Vineyard is was amazing. I am going to make the picture my profile on Facebook.

By Meg M |

Walk out from Edgartown harbor or the Harbor View Hotel, not only for the lighthouse, but also for the spectacular view.

By Linda H |

We could have gone it, but didn't. It's a very well maintained and picturesque sight. It was part of our tour.

By emlauinger |

A must do while visiting; almost magical. Decorated fabulously for many holidays and occasions. Definitely worth the walk...

By hirkiti |

Love this lighthouse. Awesome that it is built from metal panels bolted together - basically apart from the concrete base you could assemble the whole thing with hand tools. Surrounding area (Lighthouse Beach) is also beautiful and great for a walk.

By G R |

I love this location. It is a great walk around the beach and it offers really great views of Edgartown from the lighthouse. Also, there is a great gift shop inside of the lighthouse at the base.

By TravelingT4 |

This is walkable from Edgartown but the beach isn’t real pretty. I would suggest getting transportation out to Aquinnah to see Gayhead instead. Much prettier out there.

By OH2CTHEC |

I love this spot. The views are lovely and the location is easy to reach on foot. Not to be missed. The poignant memorial is moving.

By Celeste J |

Beautiful views. If you love lighthouses head that way. Then head to town to walk around and grab a bite to eat.

By schmidtmg |

The Edgartown Lighthouse houses a small museum but this had closed down for the season when we visited in mid-October. The lighthouse is situated on a nice beach, and it is a very pleasant walk from Edgartown town center to the lighthouse and beach... Edgartown is easy to get to by public transport from Vineyard Haven, and if you intend to explore MV on a full day, it is worth buying a day ticket for public buses at USD 8....

By fdkmd |

$5 to climb to the top. Nice beach in front. I suggest you sit on the wood benches right across the the Harbor View Hotel facing the lighthouse and enjoy the view.

By OpinionGuru |

Took a tour and saw this lighthouse. Very cool. History was interesting. It is now a non winterized home if I understood the guide. It is not an official lighthouse.

By Harrison F. Carter |

Really nice walk to reach the lighthouse; the lovely houses - all adds to the enjoyment of the experience. Well worth a stop.

By GTheo |

Although it was raining, we drove from Edgartown to the lighthouse. We took some great photos with the ocean and the bluffs below us. This was the perfect New England lighthouse setting. Don’t miss it. Great scenic drive.

By Dinna S |

We rode the bus from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown, walked to the harbor, shopped in the cute shops and then walked to the lighthouse. What a wonderful way to spend the day! The walk to the light house was down an easy trail, and the beach, ocean and harbor around it was wonderful. If you want to enjoy peaceful beach time, pack a picnic and spread out on the uncrowded beach.

By Kim E |

We climbed to the top for a beautiful view of Edgartown and the surrounding water. Gorgeous lighthouse to look at and admire. Worth a visit.

By Ralph A |

Such a nice location. Easy to get to, sit on the rocks and hear the gentle sounds of the waves against the sand.

By JR_NYC |

It was a rainy and windy day, but still we could enjoy the view. Small parking. We saw people walking their dogs, and riding their bikes, it seemed a very popular site.

By Terra M |

Lighthouse was closed when we visited but the surrounding beaches were nice, found great shells, watched the boats entering/leaving and a few fisherman fishing from the shores.

By GeorgiaLucy41 |

An easy walk from downtown Edgartown, this is a beautiful lighthouse with scenic views of the town and harbor. You can climb to the top for even better views

By anartamir |

Not the best beach to sun bath, but the location is very convenient as it is 10 minutes away from the city downtown.

By Sean C |

Scenic, tranquil, picturesque. We visited this location with our pup and watched seagulls dropping shells. No crowds (off-season) and easily accessible down trail in a neighborhood. Free on-street parking was a little hard to find but doable.

By 278Julie |

Nice view overthere. There is a small fee to get inside and on the top, kids dont pay. So its worthy. This place is very cute. We get a nice view on the top. The walk to get there is not short, but still nice.

By ClickerM |

my wife and I took the walk to the edgartown lighthouse while we were on our martha's vineyard tour. it was a nice walk from the shuttle bus drop-off. the neighborhoods we walked through were very pretty. alot of older homes that have been well maintained...quite the new england feel. just a very beautiful area. there is an easy path down to the lighthouse...be sure to get alot of pictures. One of many lighthouses we saw on vacation this year. maybe we'll make our own calendar!

By Houston N |

The Edgartown Lighthouse is very beautiful and sits gracefully in the bay. Take the walk out to see it.

By betsyr827 |

right outside the Harbourview Hotel is a lighthouse and it is a lovely place to walk along the water.

By ITRT |

You owe it to yourself to take the 5-10 minute walk down North Water Street from the center of Edgartown to the Edgartown Lighthouse. This lighthouse marks the harbor’s entrance between Martha’s Vineyard and Chappaquiddick. A sand path leads from the paved road to the lighthouse but is quite walkable. There is a small sandy beach nearby as well as a memorial to children whose died and whose parents were residents or seasonal residents. When we were there, a sign on the lighthouse said it would be open to visitors on the weekend. For those who cannot walk on sand, there is a bench near the sidewalk where you can sit and enjoy the views and get a photo of the lighthouse.

By annapN7702ZW |

We found this spot to be amazing picture taking. Very quiet when we went. Due to covid we could not walk inside.

By roadrun50 |

Limited street parking on the one way street to the Harbor View Hotel across the street from the lighthouse. Off season, it’s a brisk but easy walk to the lighthouse. Can easily be seen from the road as well.

By jeri D |

If you like lighthouses, go there to visit. We happen to like the light houses. Each one is unique. Go!

By VacaCouple2014 |

You can walk to this lighthouse from South Water Street. It stands over Edgartown Harbor and can be seen from the Harbor View Hotel and some of the restaurants that have second floor seating/dining.

By Dorie G |

This is a public beach and it is a great venue for a beach wedding. Beautiful path to the lighthouse beach, flat terrain, gorgeous views. The lighthouse is a bonus for photos.

By Gene R J |

We made this our goal for Edgartown on our day trip around Martha’s Vineyard. Arriving via the Island Queen Ferry at Oak Bluffs, we bought a bus day pass. Bus # 13 took us to Edgartown. The driver said to make a right on Winter St., a left on North Water St. and “voila”, we spotted this beautiful 1875 45’ lighthouse sitting at the end of a sand spit.
Returning to the bus stop we saw many pretty homes, the 1891 Harbor View Hotel, the Chappy Ferry and the Giant Pagoda Tree(brought back in a flower pot by Captain Thomas Milton in 1837) on the nearly 2 mile round trip. Great destination.

By AdnanKakazai |

Edgartown is one of the whaling town in New England and Edgartown Lighthouse is one of the things to see. Tour operators suggest a walk to lighthouse crossing the town from the Edgartown Town Hall which is usually the place to start and end the trip to Edgartown.

If you are in a mood to walk, you can walk to lighthouse through different streets. It is opposite to Harbor View Hotel. Normally visitors are to follow a time schedule so it is recommended to keep an eye on the watch. Use maps on the smartphone to reach your destination if during the walk you are lost in the streets.

Good walking shoes, a bottle of water is must. You can click different views from the lighthouse and on way back can enjoy coffee or food in many restaurants on the way. Good shopping also on the way back and make it sure to reach your pick-up/drop point well in time.

By Jim C |

Sure enough it's a lighthouse! It's tall and bright right there near the water. The beach nearby is actual nice and a good place for small skids.

By Holly W |

We loved walking to the lighthouse simply for the unbelievable view! There are trails around the area and it is surrounded by water. Very nice for romantic stroll.

By boktasofplainville |

Walked to the lighthouse in edgartown from our hotel. Have been to Martha's Vineyard several times but never over to the lighthouse. Nice spot for a picnic on a nice day.

By JeRo411 |

Great vacation in early spring! thank you to "Greetings from Martha's Vineyard tours and Craig our tour guide! This was one of the many stops during our day tour. He even took our picture! The historic Edgartown lighthouse!

By Mary Jane F |

If you want an adorable beach near Edgartown Lighthouse with wonderful shells and calm surf go to Fuller Street beach!

By riprunner1 |

This is a fun and interesting thing to do when in Edgartown on a nice day. It is a very good example of New England Lighthouses along with its history. Be sure to walk up to the balcony around the lens as it provides excellent views of Edgartown's inner and outer harbors.

By argania |

Pleasant walk on the seashore, very nice vegetation and lots of birds and ducks. Worthwhile visiting early in the morning or at sunset, if the weather is fine...

By The Richardsons |

My family and I spent the week vacationing on Martha's Vineyard this July 2017. We ate at wonderful restaurants, spent time on the beach and touring the island. Although every moment of our vacation was great, visiting the Edgartown Lighthouse was simply monumental. Take a walk to the top and you will never regret it. If he's available, spend some time chatting with Wayde Johnson because you will leave happier than you came and even more enlightened. Wayde was lovely and full of information.I can't put my finger on exactly what it was, but I know that we left with a different perspective and will never regret the walk to the lighthouse. I highly recommend visiting.

By lrknek |

This was to be a 'filler in' on our tour. However, it quickly became one of our favorites. My wife made the perfect commendation. 'In my next life. this is where I want to live!" This speaks volumes.

By Patrick S |

Great walk to the lighthouse and of course the views are terrific. There is a beach so you can swim if you can take the temperature of the water.

By Avakelly |

Lighthouse by itself isn’t impressive, the surrounding area makes the lighthouse a brush to the canvas. Kids loved the beach, one kid ate a rock and we didn’t care. We were missing the mimosas and that would have been a cherry on top.

By Kristi E |

Can't give a review of the inside, because it was closed when we were there. But it is very easy to get to and a beautiful stroll alomg the way!

By Rick S |

Although Oakbluff is cute and nice, Edgartown is amazing. Amazing coastline town with great streets, awesome houses, superbe view from lighthouse, excellent marina, cute restaurants in the harbor. The TOWN to see by far!

By Jill R |

We recently visited each lighthouse on the Vineyard and were amazed by the beauty of each!
This one is situated in a location without any shade so bring your sunscreen.

By Slk T |

Beautiful! Unfortunately, it’s hard to truly enjoy these beautiful lighthouses in Martha’s Vineyard due to COVID-19. We definitely made the best out of everything.

By jane f |

Lovely...must take a private 3 hour historic tour with Michael who came highly recommended by the manager of the Christopher Hotel.

By Jewel G |

Not a real hike, but a wonderful walk at the ocean. Sand paths lead to the beach and lighthouse. Beautiful ocean views and peaceful surroundings. Perfect for photos or plein air painting. Then we had lunch at the Seafood Shanty. Marvelous day!

By Stephen R |

This light house is so easy to get to. Just follow the sandy foot paths from Water Street in front of the Harbor View Hotel. It sits on a sandy shore. You might be lucky to see 4-5 painters capturing the terrific view.

By Taxpract |

When visiting the Vineyard one of the most iconic images that people associate with Edgartown is the light house on the harbor. Not only one of the most photographed spots on the Island, but a great place to picnic, fish and just relax. I provides a great vantage point for the Edgartown harbor, the Harborview Hotel, Chapaquiddick Island and a great look out for everything maritime. A must see!

By ninadg61 |

On a beautiful point flanked by beaches the lighthouse provides a gorgeous vista. It's classic New England.

By Amber H |

It was my mother and I.... we very much enjoyed walking the little island that the Lighthouse is situated on and looking for seashells! It was gorgeous weather at about 70-75F and the sun was out all day! It was a good hike and the scenery was beautiful.

By cheryl g |

A beautiful walk out to the lighthouse along a path that takes you out to the lighthouse. Stunning views, great pictures. So peaceful

By Lojometz |

Very pretty setting and grounds- easy walk right in front of Harborview Hotel. Closed when we were there but nice beach area, nice walk next to the harbor in Edgartown.

By pamelaleelogan |

Got to the lighthouse at 3:50 and the girl attendant refused us entry because she said they were closed. Yet the website says they are opened to 4pm each day. Denying entry 10 minutes before closing is wrong. It wasn't easy to get out there, and parking was rough. The girl snidely said, "We open at 10am tomorrow; just come back." Very disappointing that she would close the doors early like that.

By MindStorm |

Small plain lighthouse with nothing really to draw you to it. Fine if you are circling the island, but otherwise not worth the stop.

By Kmad26 |

Edgartown was our favorit stop on Martha's Vineyard. Walking to the lighthouse you see beautiful homes win an unbelievable view. The lighthouse was not open when we were there but it was still cool to see.

By MGQ |

JUst a little stroll to actually get up close to the lighthouse. It is only open one day a week (I think). We did not get to go inside on the day we visited but the area around the lighthouse is nice to stroll around. It is right on the beach so you can go shelling while admiring the lighthouse.

By Ki Bikic |

Nice place to relax and enjoy the calm beach! It's perfect to spend an afternoon with family and friends!

By Francesca Romana Saule |

There are plenty of benches where you can sit and admire the beautiful landscape in fron of the Ocean View Hotel. You will see many white sails in a quiet see

By GADawgGa |

We visited the historical lighthouse. Attendants were there to provide us with all its history, which is extensive. Also, lighthouse has been moved. Had lunch at nearby restaurant with great views.

By cannonater |

It was nice to see a lighthouse up close, however it was closed for COVID reasons. Would have liked to have gone to the top of it.

By Pat P |

It's a short walk to Edgartown Lighthouse and it a very pretty area. The lighthouse was dedicated in 2001 to all the children.

By tidegirl19 |

This was our favorite lighthouse, mostly because the views were amazing! It’s worth the short walk. And it’s an easy walk to the top (except if you are tall, getting to the top part is tricky because it’s a “halfway” door). The views are worth it, though.

By Kerion M |

Nice walk to the lighthouse, you can "tour" the lighthouse if you are interested. Nice to walk along the beach, lovely views

By worktotravel14 |

The Edgartown light is a beautiful light in - you guessed it - Edgartown. There is a short walk through coastal shrubbery and bay roses to get to a serene light standing on its own on the shores of a beach. If you are there before mid-afternoon, pay a small fee to climb the light and view all of its features, as well as beautiful views. Walk around the beach (it can be windy) and enjoy what feels like absolutely pristine shores. Worth a visit while you are on the island.

By Laura M |

Beautiful drive down. Beautiful beach & lighthouse. Easy walk from Edgartown. Beautiful lagoon, beach roses, setting etc.

By Lamouria B |

This is a popular destination on the island. Bring comfortable, washable shoes as you will have to walk a path and through the sand.

By James K |

Iconic lighthouse of Edgartown, was the perfect foreground for morning sunrises from our hotel. The adjacent beach is clean and uncrowded, but located on the Edgartown boat channel...convenient for a quick visit, but not where I'd plan a beach-day.

By Cyndy O |

In addition to a nice little beach on Edgartown harbor and lovely views of Chappy and the iconic cabanas, the area at the base of Edgartown light is paved with engraved bricks bearing the names of Island children who have died. They erode over the period of about 10 years, but it is always lovely to see shells left on the bricks for loved ones.

By TVHOST |

If you are a lighthouse fan- or not- its just so nice to photo these precious gems. And certainly the are is full of them

By Melissa G |

We went here on Memorial Day. The hours on the website for this house said it would be open, but unfortunately it was not. The weather was rainy so this could have been why. Besides that disappointment the walk out there was beautiful and worth our time.

By Karen C |

You can walk through the town and walk right out to the lighthouse. We spent some time on the beach even in the rain...

By Beecat |

Gorgeous under all circumstances, scene of many weddings, wear good shoes it's a bit of a walk over rough terrain.

By Rose M. |

Beautiful setting. Unfortunately could not go inside to the top to see the view because it was closed. But still a beautiful place to see the harbor.

By turquoise-starfish |

Easy access through a pathway of sand and gentle brush. This lighthouse is a quick climb and allows for views of the Edgartown harbor and the ferry entrance to the Chappaquiddick island across. Right at the base of the lighthouse is a small beach with calm waters, great for a picnic after biking or waking through historic Edgartown.

By married96 |

Don't want to miss photos of this lighthouse. Unfortunately with Covid is not open for inside tours. Staying across street at the Harbor View Hotel it was an easy walk across street through the sand dunes to get to the point.

By Aunt_Angie3 |

A short walk from the road takes you down a trail to the lighthouse. You also get good views of the piers and waterfront homes from the lighthouse. The lighthouse was closed and there was no informational sign outside the lighthouse to explain its history. I probably spent 20 minutes walking to/from and photographing the lighthouse area.

By Stevens B |

Rode our bikes down to the lighthouse and walked around. Great way to while away an afternoon in a lovely spot.

By Taste of Massachusetts / New England |

Probably one of the most photogenic light houses there is, It is best to go at sunrise or sunset to get a great angle.

By iSa9969 |

through the streets of Edgartown to the lighthouse. You have a very good view over the Edgartown Marina

By Muriel W |

Short walk from downtown. Gorgeous on a sunny day. The view on the harbor and the town is beautiful. From the lighthouse, we kept walking on the beach which is open to the public.

By Andrew W |

Set on picturesque Edgartown harbor the lighthouse is one of those landmarks lots of people go to. There is a beach around here as well. A little shelly.

By Kim |

We took a bus from Vineyard Haven and caught the tail end of a sunrise. Wow. What a sight. It's very peaceful out there, and a great spot for people who love great photos.

By Tee R |

A great photo opportunity from here. Nice beach - short walk from town. Sit and chill for a moment watching the birds.

By mub1 |

We went to this lighthouse and took some great photos. The weather was great as we could have stayed there all day.If you go to the cape this would be a must see event. We would go again.

By Nick61878 |

About a 15 minute walk from downtown Edgartown, the Edgartown lighthouse offers beautiful panoramic views of Lighthouse Beach and Edgartown Harbor. Lighthouse admission is $5 per person.

By Bonnie P |

Perfectly charming..a real New England view..My daughters favorite place for a peaceful morning walk when in the Vineyard.

By jwarm |

Just in town for the day and wanted to take a long stroll, so we walked out to this lovely lighthouse. Locals were very friendly and helpful on history. We strolled the beach, collected shells, and spent a few minutes relaxing on the lighthouse porch. Such a nice outing!

By Aimerslove |

Every time in Edgartown I walk out and visit the light house. I love the peacefulness and beauty. Great place to walk the pups and have kids run along the paths.

By sweetsinclaire |

Nice stroll to the lighthouse overlooking a beautiful beach and marina. This is the quintessential new england lighthouse. Must see on the Vineyard.

By cookpias |

This is one of the iconic Martha's Vineyard lighthouses which is a short stroll from the harbor in Edgartown--also has a sweet little beach.

By RFClark |

Always worth a visit in any season or weather. In the summer it is open at least a couple of nights a week
Very photogenic but don't expect to make any images not already done many times over!!

By NsMommy |

This is a lovely lighthouse with great views from both the lighthouse and the park. If you don’t wish to travel all the way to Aquinnah to see the sunset, this is a great east coast option.

By mehran97 |

This beautiful lighthouse is located on a great location on the island. It has a very beautiful view. It is a historical landmark on the island and a must visit.

By Gloria E |

Put it on your to see list when you visit the island. Also plan to ee the other ight houses--it is a great place for children--they can look for shells, pretty rocks or buid a sand castle!!

By VR747 |

You'll find the lighthouse at the end of Water Street and onto the beach Sonia a nice walk from Main Street past pretty houses and hotels out to the water's edge.

By Moerom |

Lovely walk from the town to the lighthouse. The whole area is stunning. Definitely worth the visit.

By Madeleine H |

Lovely place to go in Edgartown, its a nice walk from the main town centre and has a beautiful view. It might not be the most important thing to do when in Edgartown but it I think it is definitely worth it.

By D David |

Very nice approachable lighthouse. Easy and scenic walk from Edgartown's retail and restaurant district. There were quite a few young families enjoying the stroll and playing around the lighthouse. The lighthouse is also open so you can walk up to the observation deck and enjoy the view.

By MarleyWay84 |

Lighthouse day for us and this one did not disappoint. Nice walk out to it. Beautiful views and photos opts of the lighthouse. We enjoyed walking the beach and the beautiful view all around the area. Parking was the hardest part. We had to park a few streets over and walk to the lighthouse. But well worth it!

By ssmf |

Lovely light house just outside the town centre. Well worth the climb up to the top. Great views of harbour and Chappy ferry. Definitely worth the $5 entry fee.

By jbrenz |

It was great because it was off season and not crowded. It was also nice because you could walk out right to the lighthouse, too. Unfortunately, the day I had was very foggy and you could hardly see the lighthouse even right up next to it. If you’re on the island, be sure to walk out to the lighthouse and hopefully you’ll have a clearer day than I did.

By paketa |

Soft white sands with surf. Just be careful of the undertow. One of the best beaches on Martha's Vineyard island.

By JadePlant10 |

We were here in the fall and this was an easy stroll from our hotel in the heart of Edgartown. We got some beautiful photos and enjoyed the walk (you will see many beautiful houses near the lighthouse); as always, I enjoyed just breathing the sea air.

By Sea_dreamer2014 |

You must visit the lighthouse if in Edgartown. It's a lovely walk through a pristine beach path to get out to it. Water and beach surrounds you. For a small fee you can climb to the top and enjoy the gorgeous view of the Chappy and Edgartown. Excellent location for photos and perfect for a private picnic lunch or dinner.

By MAMama100 |

It only takes a little time and has a short walk to it with beautiful flowers on the way.
Hold your kids especially if you are walking outside but beautiful view and very cool kids liked it.

By dandre01 |

For all who visit the Vineyard please make sure that you put the Edgartown Lighthouse on your list of places to go! It is an absolute "Must See" because the views are absolutely wonderful and represent the reason that Edgartown is the Vineyards version of Florida's Palm Beach!

By garyrichmond |

Take a walk through the park to the lighthouse. Or just enjoy it from a distance. A nice viewing angle is from the Chappy ferry or from Chappaquiddick.

By yajiprof |

We walked from our hotel up a couple of blocks to see the many outstanding houses in Edgartown. We walked parallel to the harbor to the east until we came to a small park with benches where we took a short rest, then walked down to see the Edgartown lighthouse. It was well worth the walk through the sand to get a good view.

By rrtraveler88 |

We rode bikes to the lighthouse and enjoyed the short walk down to the water. It is a beautiful backdrop for vacation pictures.

By 333river |

Lovely little lighthouse in a charming setting with great views of the harbor.
Easy walk from the town and fantastic views from the top of the lighthouse.

By Queen City Bluesman - Cincinnati |

Fun location, great views of the harbor and beaches, it's a nice place to walk with your morning coffee ...

By Maya N |

Beautiful and romantic location. And we ran into a couple who just had just gotten engaged there. Perfect place for proposals.

By Janice S |

Local guide was extremely informative and sang for us accompanying an Eva Cassidy track - beautiful.

By reneech2016 |

The view was spectacular. The food and the service were haphazard. The bar was e. Excellent and makes delicious cocktails. Go for drinks on the veranda and skip the food.

By Maria O |

Across from our hotel. Not many steps to top but do have to crawl through the last opening. Beautiful scenery!

By Kim T |

We walked here from bus stop. Saw all the beautiful homes, sailboats, etc. There was a wedding that was going to take place later. They had it all set up. Beautiful location. If you want to go up to top of lighthouse you must pay $5 per person.

By DLP |

The lighthouse sits on a small stretch of land off the main road of Edgartown. The view from the road is stunning but as you make the small trek down through the beach shrubbery to reach the lighthouse, the views become even more spectacular. Aside from being a beacon of light, the lighthouse is a children’s memorial and the cobble stones surrounding the base of the lighthouse is a remembrance of a child. It is really beautiful and touching tribute.

By Beluga4162 |

So lovely! Really nice paths out to the lighthouse. Nice to see all the bricks with
names on them. Plenty of fishermen all around and boats coming in and out. Just
scenic and New England feeling!

By Linda K |

Great way to view Chappy and Edgartown harbor. You can fish at the lighthouse beach or
watch the 4th of July fireworks. Lovely beach as well.

By Jeffrey F |

Great short walk from downtown. Beautiful views and area to go to beach and swim. Walking up lighthouse was fun but not worth the $5, but kids wanted to go.

By Kearle7 |

This spot is stunningly beautiful! The lighthouse is lovely and the setting can’t be beat! I took so many photos!! The guide was very engaging and told us the heartbreaking/heartwarming story of the children’s memorial. Just a short walk down the causeway from the road through the beach roses! The climb wasn’t too strenuous and the stairs were replaced in 2010, so very safe. This was a highlight of our recent trip!! I highly recommend it!

By delores r |

This was just lovely and fun I had a lobster roll walk to the lighthouse just a beautiful strong very easy walk it is slow season so I'm not sure what it would be like in the summer months and I truly enjoyed it again just the nicest people.

By Gayle E |

We love to take photos so we had several vantage points to get good photo ops! Very nice and colorful lighthouse. I recommend you walk down or walk to get the views! Lots of sailboats in the harbor today! Hot but great pics!

By langeah17 |

This is the first lighthouse I have seen that you could actually go into. For $5 you get to hear a little about the history from a very knowledgeable guide, and then walk a short flight of stairs to the top. It's a bit awkward to get outside, you have to climb a ladder then bend down to go outside, but its a great view. Definitely worth it!

By Pam K |

Had a professional photo session of our family here. Beautiful and quaint feel with tall grass and beautiful flowers and surroundings. Very peaceful. It's a must see if on the island of MV.

By cgpabon01 |

We always come back to this place, but every year it has become mure difficult to find a parking spot.
The available spaces are limited for two hrs. Which are not reasonable if you plan to spend some time at the beach. So be prepared

By Ladope |

After have a lunch in Edgartown, I decide to stop to see the local lighthouse.
Park the car nearby and walked the path to it. I was admiring the lighthouse and the sea for a while. A couple of boats turned down over the sand give me a wonderful composition to shoot a picture. The lighthouse was closed. I ignore if on certain times it is possible to visit it.
But any way is worth the while to stop by.

By Heather |

Much smaller than we had expected, but it was in such a beautiful location it didn't matter! There is a nice little pathway that leads out to the area the lighthouse is on and was perfect for a sunset walk. There was a wedding photo shoot happening at the time and I am sure they got some amazing photos. It was a great experience!

By DisneyCruisingFamily |

Just a short jaunt down a sandy path, through the dunes, to the water's edge. The approach to Edgartown Lighthouse is filled with wildflowers & beauty, then opens up onto a marina path that leads directly to the lighthouse. It's a short jaunt, but definitely worth it! This path is accessed across from Harbor View Hotel.

By David K |

Very neat old lighthouse to go through. The time it takes is not very long at $5.00 each. walk the stairs to the top, look around some and that is about all there is to do.

By Loretta E |

We walked down Water Street which was a treat in itself with all the gorgeous white homes with beautiful manicured lawns and lovely flowers. Once you get to the end of the street you walk down an easy path to the quiet beach with the beautiful lighthouse. A perfect spot to take lots of photos. You can also go up,inside the lighthouse. We didn't actually go inside as we were running a bit late to catch our ferry back but if I have the opportunity to visit The Vineyard again I will definitely make time to go up inside the lighthouse. Put the Edgartown lighthouse on your list of things to do.

By Joyce |

We loved this location. We drove through town with the windows down and it's so quiet off season you can hear the birds chirping this is a definite must see

By lsmith699 |

A beautiful, must see on the island. Easy bike ride from Oaks Bluffs. Breath taking scenes all along the way.

By KindHeartedNY |

We walked down to the lighthouse before dinner and it was the perfect Martha's Vineyard backdrop. The walk is easy and the old houses on the street are really nice. When you get to the end of the street, you will see a small path that will take you down to the beach and the lighthouse. There is some tall grass but otherwise it was easy to walk. You can walk to the lighthouse and the beach along the water. Super romantic.

By whereami6 |

Beautiful walk out to the lighthouse. Beautiful neighborhood. Worth it!
They charge $5 to go into it. I believe it's a donation for child cancer patients.

By Laura A |

An easy walk from Kelley House. A nice walk down a local street (wouldn't be too easy for a wheelchair due to narrow sidewalks).

By entropy71 |

This picturesque lighthouse is worth visiting; it is a short walk from the road where we found empty spaces for parking (in May!)

By Tee R |

If you visit Edgartown you must visit lighthouse. Set on a lovey stretch of beach. Perfectly placed to relax whilst still close to all that Edgartown has to offer

By Strong Builders |

You won't find a more quaint setting for a lighthouse anywhere... Except maybe Cape Hatteras or Old Barney in New Jersey. Absolutely classic New England setting

By D M |

Have to walk in the sand a bit if you want to go up in it. There is a great view of it from the road though. It is only $5 to climb the stairs to the top. Neat experience.

By Explore09876 |

Very nice to visit. Great photos. If u like lighthouses. See this one. The area is beautiful. Picture perfect

By mikea168 |

Prepare to walk a little distance but when you get to the small beach by the lighthouse, it's nice and peaceful. Great sights with boats and water views. Spent a couple hours, took a nap and went on our way.

By Peter G |

Seriously stunning. I was blown away, the light is fantastic, the beach is beautiful, lazy fishermen line the shore, it really is idyllic. It sums up why people would want to live here

By orienttrader |

This is a beautiful Lighthouse on a nice sandy beach. It is located at the opening of Edgartown harbor, just a few hundred yards from the island of Chappaquiddick and an easy walk from the center of Edgartown It is a popular beach for swimming and a popular site for photographers

By k d |

The Edgartown lighthouse provided a pretty backdrop for some great beach photos. Lots of couples and families were out with pro and amateur photographers. We arrived at “the golden hour” long after the exhibit had closed. It was our destination after a short leisurely walk from our hotel. I must say, all of the lighthouses on Martha’s Vineyard were shorter than I imagined. Next time, we’ll arrive early enough to go inside, even though the attraction is geared to children.

By Laurie R |

It is a beautiful lighthouse with a short but steep stairway inside. Even the three year old went up to the top! Worth the short walk to get to the lighthouse. Great picture spot.

By Christine R |

Went early in the morning in the off season and no one was around. It was calm and beautiful. The lighthouse is about a 5 minute walk from where we parked, all pretty even walking. The lighthouse itself is located right on the beach and in front of a lake, so the picture opportunities are ample.

By Mike P |

After Parking up on the street we walked down and across the causeway to the lighthouse. The entire area is open so you can wander along the shore or the little paths through the growth. A fun area.

By Palmer R |

We visited three of Martha's Vineyard. Great experience. The Edgartown Lighthouse was special. You can go up to the top for wonderful views. The attendant, George(?), a retired guidance counselor, was impressive. He quietly described the significance of the markers on the base representing deceased children. Very compelling. A must visit.

By Matthew M |

My son is fascinated at the moment by lighthouses (4 years old in case you were wondering) so it was awesome for us but I can see why the average bear might not find this amazing. $5 entry fee per person but we found that was flexible, based on one of the operators offering to let one of the party go up for free when it was discovered we did. It have enough cash for all to climb to the top ( cash only, folks). Cool but not can’t miss

By Todd S |

Perfect 5 minute walk up from town to the lighthouse. Walk past all the beautiful homes to the huge hotel overlooking the lighthouse and the harbor. You can walk down the path to the lighthouse and go up to the top. It's not too tall, maybe 2 stories. Enjoy!

By heumanntouch |

While I never went out to the lighthouse itself I did take some nice photos of the location from the road. If you are in the area this makes for some nice photos.

By Gabrielle P |

It's a very pretty site where you can choose to walk around the water, sit on the benches, or have a drink on the porch of the hotel across the street while enjoying the lovely view.

By Kerri S |

This is one of my favorite lighthouses. You have views of Chappaquidick, Edgartown Harbor and all the beautiful sailboats. I’ve been here many times but this was the first time going into lighthouse. It cost $5.00 to go up lighthouse and worth it to see the views and just take in the beauty of Edgartown.

By Dom |

Was a blustery afternoon with our son in his buggy. Impossible to walk there avoiding the sand. Be warned. Great location and could imagine families in their thousands descending to this part of the vineyard. Historic point of interest and worth a stroll...

By Sylvia D |

Located in the dunes across from the harbor view hotel it is a landmark inviting to and worth a little walk.

By Kayakman52 |

You may remember that the Town had to lift and move this lighthouse 125' away from the shore due to erosion. Dispute the move, it is solid as a rock and still provides beautiful views of the shore and beyond. Yes, you can climb the spiral staircase, but not suitable for anyone with a disability that prevents then from climbing in confined spaces.

By Jim W. |

This place was a bit isolated from town. You need to walk out to near the end of Water Street to access it, and then turn right onto a sand-path that leads out to the lighthouse itself. It is probably a 15-minute walk from the center of town.

Until late May, the lighthouse is not open daily. I'm not sure when it starts at least being open on weekends. They apparently offer access for a modest fee. It was closed the day I went. The main activity seems to be people walking their dogs out onto the beaches at the peninsula on which the lighthouse is located.

If you want a short, quiet walk, this is not a bad destination. It is not a particularly tall lighthouse, though.

By Vance D. |

My teenage son raced me to the small Egdartown landmark and won. Fun and short, relaxing jaunt from tourist clogged town and docksde.

By Angelo Mirabile |

The view's the sea air, just being there....walking around the grounds, taking in the scenery, the boat traffic and sail's. The entire area is great to bring a lunch or buy a sandwich there and sit by the water.

By VACATIONLADY2 |

This is a wonderful little adventure to take while in Edgartown. Park on North Water Street near the end when you see the Harborview Hotel and the lighthouse. Walk down the path to the lighthouse and beach area....it's a beautiful walk surrounded by the harbor. If you go during the open hours - you can go into and climb up to the top of the lighthouse.....the views are amazing and it's really fun for kids and adults!! Bring a picnic lunch and hang out on the beach!!!

By waynewalker52 |

Fun visit if you love lighthouses. It was about a 200 years hike down a dirt trail to get there. It is open and you can go to the top.

By MaddieMcKay |

This landmark of Edgartown must be visited, ideally when it is open to go inside and up to the top. The history noted inside the lighthouse is interesting and the view from the top is unforgettable.

By Marla |

Beautiful in the morning light, afternoon and sunset. Cloudy and sunny days.....the lighthouse and quiet beach are a beacon in Edgartown and MV

By Chris C |

This is a special lighthouse. The kind of lighthouse you read about in stories. Its setting is picturesque with the sailboats in the background and the beachy feeling walking up to it.

It is very easy to find. Go and take a picture!

By ctd79 |

Great place to see. Kids had a great time in shallow water. Very beautiful spot. Great for pics. Located around a shopping area.

By Vincent L |

Worth seeing. Wonderful view of Edgartown Harbor. The Historical Society has done a great job!! The gentleman that greats everyone is very nice as well.

By rgnlady |

Oh what a lovely light house went right up to the top and had the most fab view of Edgartown
Worthwhile visiting if you are visiting Martha’s vineyard

By Art L |

Go take a walk out to this historic landmark right on the edge of the Edgartown Harbor. Look back at beauty of Edgartown or vastness on the inlet.

By Vito L Tanzi |

The Edgartown Lighthouse is beautiful. It will take you about 5-10 mins to reach it but its worth the walk.

By bridgone |

Cloudy day when there. It was also closed for maintenance. Beautiful building. Can be seen from alot beaches. Alot history with these houses.

By karenreevespt |

Very beautiful coastline- easy walk to lighthouse. Not a paved path but flat and semi-soft dirt. Closed M-F but can each to it in 10 min and walk around it. Wind is higher here than by shops.

By ashme7 |

Views from the top were beautiful, they were worth the $5. The lady there was very nice and told us the history of the lighthouse.

By Jacqueline D |

Very picturesque setting, the beach adjacent to the lighthouse is lovely. I liked it better than South Beach. Far less crowded.

By Meike_Maria |

Walk over from city centre Edwardtown in just a few minutes and enjoy great views of this brillant white lighthouse, the beach, the harbor and the beautiful front-row houses. Afterwards grab a drink at lovely Harbor View Hotel right across the street.

By diverdriverfwa |

It is a nice little stroll from the Harbor View Hotel. I highly recommend a cocktail at the Harbor View after your stroll. Their specialty cocktails are quite tasty and the bartender super efficient.

By Quanita42 |

Closed and couldn’t go in due to COVID restrictions but could walk around the base. Great view and nice walk to the point though l.

By CraftBeers |

I love this lighthouse. I saw a dozen or so while visiting the Cape, and this is my second overall favorite just behind Brandt Point on Nantucket. The Edgartown lighthouse has charm and scenery. It's an easy walk from Edgartown's shopping area. The houses you will pass on the way here are fabulous. As you walk down the hill to the bay and small dam, you'll see the beautiful white lighthouse with black accents. The water in the background is a lovely setting.

The area directly around the lighthouse is pretty. There is a wooden bench at the beginning of the path to sit and view the area. There is a rock damn with a cement path on top that has water on both sides. Boats are parked in the bay. Sandy paths and grassy dunes cover the area around the lighthouse.

Definitely visit this lighthouse. Give yourself some time here to relax and take in the scenery. Maybe even bring a book and enjoy it.

By Christian B |

Just a walk from our hotel, it provided many good views and photo ops. The beach and waves were fun to explore.

By Pdonatyandkids |

Short walk from the downtown area. Easy walk. The path to get in can be missed as it is an easement between two homes. Dogs are allowed but they need to be leashed. We went in May and the lighthouse was not opened yet.

By cohoman |

Nice lighthouse in Edgartown where you can climb up it for a small fee ($5). Check for their open hours if you want to go inside. Great view of the harbor from the top.

By lauraprice72 |

This is a gorgeous lighthouse, it is in a very magical spot. When we went there were no people around and it was just magical being there with the light house and the water. I think there might be tours at some time where you can go up but when we went there was no one there at all.

By Nides A |

The historical lighthouse in Edgartown have a magnet to visitors to be seen .Beautiful homes to see from Main Street to the lighthouse.Nice blooming flowers.Must visit every time in the island.

By bcnett |

The light house is adorable, but don't go to just see the light house -- go and walk around Edgartown. It is a very unique town with lots of charm. It is much nicer that Oak Bluffs. Our tour guide told us that it is always voted one of the best town in the country to live in. There is a public bus from Oak Bluffs that runs every 20 minutes and take only a few minutes to get there. A round trip is $5.00 ($3.00 for seniors).

By MaryLou S |

Have been going to Edgartown Lighthouse to watch the fireworks for 25 years or more! Watch the 4th of July Parade and head down to the lighthouse for GREAT family fun for all ages.

By kb9ukm |

Go to the top and see or sea!!

The light house keeper is a jem himself too!!

Spend some time and get to know him too..

By pisces025 |

Well worth the walk down North water street (parking is a bit dicey) and the view is wonderful, of course, but the thing that struck me most was the many paving stone type plaques with the names of very young children and babies who have dies far too soon arranged around the outside of the lighthouse.

By Rich G |

Refreshing air and scenery for a short weekend getaway trip, friendly people, fine foods, yet cost is not cheap though, not necessarily on money, but on time and hassle (talk about the notorious I-95 and the long ferry ride). I could get the same air, ocean front view and sea foods down on Jersey shore with much ease. It is certainly a more suitable destination if you can afford a summer rental house on beach front.

Come to think of it, Matha's Vineyard is a bit of hype for the mass public, fueled by celebrities, known events/incidents, possibly even novels, all casting a sense of mystery and curiosity on the island. For me, I can check it off my been-there-done-that list now.

By WendyLauWong |

With all the children asleep in the car, only one of the us walked out to see the lighthouse. We parked by the Hotel and was able to see the view all towards the lighthouse. It was a really pretty backdrop and the walk to it looked long but well worth it. It's $5 to go into the lighthouse.

By patchsunflower |

We came right before peak season so it was nice to be able to walk the beach and lighthouse without a lot of people around. But the beach was not cleaned up yet so there was a lot of dead jellyfish and seaweed. The tours of the lighthouse didn't start until next weekend, so we did miss that but it is still a really nice view and walk around the beach.

By beverley d |

We visited this attraction in Edgartown, just a few minutes walk from the center of town. Small light house with a small beach ,lovely views of the surrounding areas, $5.00 to climb to the top and there is a very knowledgeable guide there .

By Patricia R |

The Lighthouse is beautiful. Step inside and take a look.
Each year my family with grandchildren ages 3-11 heads down and past Edgartown Lighthouse to the water. The kids have their tackle boxes and fish for porgies. You can see the Chappy Ferry and have a very peaceful moment.

By debrad328 |

Love this light house! Nice walk where wild flowers grow along the path. This light house is a memorial to children who have passed away. If you want to go to the top of the light house there is a fee.

By Kkpope |

my husband and I decided to spend a day on Martha's Vineyard. We took the Steamship Authority ferry over early that morning and spent most of the day they're exploring. We paid $8 per person to ride the Martha Vineyard Transit which took us to all of the hot locations to see. This was one of the locations we went to. The lighthouse was very pretty and set upon a beautiful beach with the bluest Waters. It was also need to see the places in Edgartown where the movie Jaws was filmed.

By MNarahari |

Lighthouse itself was closed when we visited, but walk around the lighthouse was nice.
Beautiful water on one side and the nice/cozy hotels/houses on the other side.

By alysseum |

The walk to the lighthouse is beautiful.I loved that you were able to go inside the lighthouse and up to the top. The view is lovely. Look for the granite pavers all around the base of the lighthouse. Families that have lost a child, can have a paver made with the child's name included in a memorial to the child.

By angi r |

This town is adorable. Very "cape cod" type shops and housing. The light house is pretty easy to get too. There are 2 trails that take you there. Went in flip flops and it was fine but real shouted would have been better until you get to the sand. You do have to walk through sand to get to the lighthouse. It may hurt to walk barefoot as there are a lot of shells everywhere. Kids would love it!

Did not get to go in the lighthouse bc it is closed for the season except Saturday and Sunday I think, that would have been really fun too and only $5 per person I hear.

Very good day, glad we went.

By Dave S |

The lighthouse was beautiful and the water in the background made it look even better.
Our group took wedding pictures by the lighthouse.

By Raiza A |

Beautiful area to walk to. Very close to town. There is a beach area surrounding the light house, and the views are spectacular! I did not go up the light house.

By DEBBYB_10 |

I enjoyed walking out to the lighthouse. However it was red tide and there were hundreds of dead jellyfish washed up on the beach near the lighthouse which was sad.

By Scarab-eight |

We hardly reach the Edgartown Lighthouse in a April extremely windy day. Nice position on a sandy beach overlooking the Edgartown harbor. Perfect for scenic Instagram photos ;-)

By hayleypl |

Incredibly charming! We loved Edgarstown & especially the lighthouse area- lots of beautiful lookouts & photo spots. Highly recommend!

My wife and I rented bikes and road down Ocean View road from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown. Awesome ride, about 6.5 miles and the road takes you right to the lighthouse. Beautiful views and can walk along the ocean. It wasn't open yet for the season but the area was great for walking around and taking some great pics.

This was a day trip for us, my son has high functioning autism and was scared to go up
Into the lighthouse the man working his name was Wayne. I would like someone to give this man a very big thank you for just letting my son take his time and Wayne somehow told us to let my son go and he went right up the steps to the very top, my wife and I cannot thank Wayne enough for his compassion and he never knew my son was special needs this world needs more Wayne in it. We are a family from New Jersey and I hope Wayne has the best in life karma will reward this man thanks Wayne

Gorgeous warm and sunny day where we had the opportunity to climb to the top! Stunning view! It felt like our own Lighthouse!

You can walk right up to the lighthouse and all around the outside. Walk along the water, collect rocks or shells, view wildlife and see local fisherman.

We were here hours before a tropical storm was approaching. It was quite incredible to see the waves crashing and the high winds blowing things around. This lighthouse features nice views from all directions.

Dinghy over from your boat and enjoy the clear water and quiet atmosphere. It's a little rocky so wear water shoes. Nice for a picnic. It costs money to go up to the top of the lighthouse but it makes for some cool photo ops.

I think that visiting one MV lighthouse seems like a good idea. We tried to visit the Gay Head lighthouse but it was foggy and not worth the effort. But the edgartown light house was awesome. Climb to the top, crawl through the dog door and walk along the breezy catwalk. Worth the $5 donation.

We love the ocean and therefore enjoyed our walk to the lighthouse where we could look out and soak in the sounds, smells, and sights of the water. We've visited in both summer and winter and enjoyed equally. We were the lone visitors on a cold winter day and that made it even better!

It always great to be able to climb up into the lighthouses here. You can see over to Chappaquiddick and all of the Harbor. Make sure you explore the jetty far out to the left so you can check out the awesome houses from behind.

Breathtaking. It's pretty awesome when you can walk to a lighthouse just up the block from your hotel!! Such a beautiful path of wild flowers and foliage. I also enjoyed the view of the harbor, ferry, and beach.

We got up early and found plenty of parking on the road at the head of the trail that leads to the Edgartown lighthouse. We walked down the path and had an amazing view of the lighthouse and sunrise. Perfect picture opportunity. We did not go up as it was too early for it to be open.

Quiet, natural beach . Clean with a short walk thru the dunes to get out to it. Has boardwalk path out for handicapped access also.

This lighthouse charges $5 for adults, kids under 12 are free. The view is great, but not entirely worth it for a full family. The breeze is sensational and the photo opportunities are amazing, but the view from the ground is just as great.

We visit and stay in Edgartown every summer. Walking to the lighthouse is our second day routine. The attendant at the lighthouse is a retired high school teacher. We look forward to seeing him every year! His knowledge of the lighthouse always captivates our son. The memorial around the lighthouse is extremely meaningful. Make sure to ask about how it came to be. They do charge a small fee to climb to the top of the lighthouse so bring cash.

beautiful lighthouse and beach . just a quick 5-10min walk from town . Very hot beach as nowhere for shelter but lovely to visit .

This lighthouse was just in front of our hotel (The Harbourview Hotel) so we walked down to the beach one morning. It was beautiful, an easy morning stroll right on the water. I would have liked to go inside but it was closed. Worth the 30 minutes to walk around and take it in.

Beautiful area by harbor, inlet and shore fishermen. The museum was closed; but, great photos and new friends made including a young couple where the bride is an alumni of LSU as am I.

A delightful lighthouse seen from so many vantage points in the area. We enjoyed all the photos we took and give it top marks for a beautiful attraction.

It has always been my dream to visit this place. Not only the lighthouse, but the whole island. I’ve read so much about the place, seen so many pictures that I had to visit.

This place certainly did not disappoint. We couldn’t decide initially whether to spend the night here, but when we checked how much it cost to stay the night, we quickly looked at the option of making a day trip.

We parked the car at New Bedford and took the boat from there. It was indeed the best decision. We arrived about lunch time and had seafood lunch. It was simply very good, very fresh seafood and tasty and so surprisingly affordable.

The beach view around Edgartown Lighthouse was so serene and peaceful. Like no other place I’ve been to and certainly not to be missed.

Short walk from Harbor View Hotel and amazing to see everyday. Sit on the rocking chairs at the hotel and enjoy coffee or a cocktail while taking in this Edgartown must see.

Very nice walk, short and very beautiful. You are able to walk up to the top. Lots of people sitting around the light house and on the beach.

I love lighthouses but even if lighthouses not on your priority list of things to see take a stroll to see this lighthouse. Entrance tucked between homes and going down the steps and crossing the grass and sand all part of the experience. Scenic walk and great picture site. Don't cheap out, pay the five dollars to up to the deck.

Nice Place with a wonderful view for making a short walk and enjoying the busy small harbour and very good air.

Nice place to visit and to take pictures, but, is not worth more than a 15 min visit.
Parking is a nightmare.

We walked to the Lighthouse from the Edgartown Diner, the kids went up in the lighthouse and heard from the attendant the facts about the lighthouse. there was a $5 fee/donation to enter. Great view from the top. We waded in the water right by the Lighthouse. Will visit there again.

The homes along the way are picturesque and well maintained. .The gardens are well manicured. Each home has a lot of property.
