Busy area, visit Beverley Grove...

By JohnTripAdviser |

About a mile south of Melrose Avenue is Beverley Grove, a large shopping complex with a farmers market open on Thursdays.
Well worth a visit, eat drink and be merry!

Thank God for Cantors on Fairfax!

By steven w |

Cantors Deli on Fairfax is a real New York style deli. After moving from the Fairfax Area to San Diego, I discovered that
the operators of our delis make regular pilgrimages up to Cantors. A real Ham and Swiss needs to be on Jewish Rye
with that golden hard crust that they bake at the front of the
shop. You can't get that in San Diego. And it is located in the
center of the last Jewish Neighborhood in LA. And if I wanted
more, I would order the chicken dinner or the corn beef and
cabbage. Never did try their Lox and Bagels. When you are
there, especially for us non-religious Jews, the smell of the
bakery, the traditional food, the ladies serving you, the sound of all the conversations, and even the location... all that
wonderful ambience create a down-to earth
experience which you might take for granted,
but will last a lifetime. Thank God for Cantors!

Trendy. Cool.

Fairfax is a trendy cool part of LA. Lots of interesting shops and places to stop by. Its all fairly spaced out in terms of its geography and not in reference to cannabis consumption which is legal.
Many opportunities for eating, shopping and browsing. a cool place to visit.

Great for Ethiopian Food

By Miriyam |

Fairfax is a very mixed location. North of San Vicente is "Little Ethiopia," which has an array of fine, inexpensive, Ethiopian restaurants, including vegetarian and vegan. The food is spicey and delicious, although clearly not to everyone's taste. Then comes the 3rd Street Farmer's Market (an array of shops, restaurants, etc -- informal and tasty places), Whole Foods, etc. -- and then North of Beverly (the equivalent of "lst street) it turns into a mix of old Jewish places (kosher bakeries, the famous 24-hour Canter's Deli) -- since this was once the heart of the Jewish community -- and much more hip (and expensive) restaurants. It's a "scene" -- very, very, L.A.

Nothing special for a visitor

Stayed close to here for a couple of nights but found little to appeal. Yes, shops and restaurants but no better than anywhere else.

vintage market

By Zachary R |

sunday morning vintage market was the coolest thing ever - seeing pieces that you have never seen before from as far back as the 50s - retro streetware alive and thriving in LA

Nothing much in this area. Shopping average

Nothing much in this area. Shopping average.
However, there are several hipster and interesting stores around.
Several nice eateries and restaurants around.

Stay off this Street

By sethmichaels2017 |

During traffic times, this street turns from one lane to 2 lanes to 1 lane again, other than that don't go here during rush hour, which in LA is 24/7. You have little Ethiopia which has a row of good Ethiopian restaurants. I suggest eating here when you have a chance, just choose the one with an "A" in the front window

The Delis are Good

By Thomas V |

This is a big residential district, an older part of town. But it is most famous for the traditional delis here that are very good.

Hardly anything open

By Sophia P |

We went there looking for flight club which when we go there we found out was closed. In fact hardly anything was open and we only came across a few second hand shops . Didn’t feel safe at all and there were many unsavoury characters we were glad to leave and go further down to the Grove.

A little too hipster these days

By JohnRyan724 |

you can still enjoy walking the neighborhood as there are still a few Mom and Pop places, and there's always Canter's, but the new hipster places have really taken over. Not that these places are bad, there's a lot of really good food options, it's just that it's a very different vibe from the old neighborhood.

World Renowned Canters Deli & Edgy Grand LA Culture

By TonyFi18 |

The Fairfax district has morphed over 75 years, but it is completely hip, and historical. Very current restaurants, old historical Deli, and Kosher bakeries. Art and trend setting clothing. A must see LA place indeed.

Can’t get enough!

Absolutely love the edgy, cool vibe. Lots of quirky cool shops.

Can get crowded

By itsthetravelguy |

The Fairfax District is a good mix of hip and trendy restaurants and shops. It can get very crowded on the weekends and rush hour.

A lot of trendy shops here.
I bought a jacket that reeks of cool.
It's hip and has a vibe.
But take your time as it pays to look around first.
