Awesome trail

By Marilyn A |

We had an amazing time on this trail - we started in Westfield, MA and rode to Granby and back. Beautiful, wide, smooth, flat trail. We have risen over 20 New England trails and this is still in our top three. Can’t wait to go back! I ride a recumbent and my husband a regular.

Farmington Valley gem

I have biked this section many times over my years and will never tire of it. Even on an oppressively hot and humid day most of the path is blanketed by shade, winding over or near the beautiful Farmington River for a view or a refreshing break. Whether walking or cycling, the trip is safe, fairly flat and scenic, with scores of parking and rest , eating or shopping opportunities, with mile markers ticking off the distances along the way. Some sections are tricky on roller blades where tree roots have pushed up some of the pavement, especially near the Collinsville section along the river. The variety of scenic views, bridges, wild life, friendly fellow users make each venue fresh. Simsbury is now offering bike "rentals" for free for those that need an extra bike for what ever reason, just inquire at Andy's Market. There are numerous access points in most towns that are also wheel chair friendly.

Wonderful Bicycle Trail!

By Felixberto E |

The trail is so long, we started at the Suffield-Southwick section of this rail trail! The wide bikeway is so nice, it passes near the Congamond Lakes, on the Massachusetts side, the trail on this side is six and half miles long, one-way. When fully completed, the trail will go all the way to Northhampton/Amherst, Ma. and perhaps to Vermont in the future! The view is great, passing through corn fields, forests, golf course greens and old long gone canal beds. The trail is considered easy, with rolling hills, gentle up-grades, and mostly flat riding, crossing a few roads/ intersections. There are picnic points/stops and not far from major villages. The parking for starting points are well groomed/marked, very well maintained by the park organizations. It is suited for whole family biking!

always a pleasant bike ride

always a pleasant bike ride on this section of the Greenway. They are actually extending the road bed further south to connect to other trails so you can go all the way to new Haven,CT.

Fantastic Trail

By MMouseMD |

Paved trail for walkers, runners, cyclists, bladers, and just about any other non-motorized method of transportation. Minimal hills, almost all flat. Connects to many other CT trails. Can ride a bike from New Haven to Southwick Mass, all across CT 52 miles. All (minimal) road crossings have warning lights. Lots of places to stop. Beautiful scenery, all times of the year (not plowed in winter, ok for xcountry skiing).

Great bike trail, flat, shaded, scenic, plenty of access and parking from Farmington to the ending in MA

Have ridden this trail a few times and always enjoy the ride. This last weekend some friends put together a century ride and we appreciated the water fountains (one five miles north of the MA border and one in a playground near the outdoor concert arena), porta johns, and lots of shade. There are also plenty of small delis and cafés along the way although we did not avail ourselves of their services. The ride takes you past a plant nursery, tobacco farms, an original station house, marshes, open space, and small to medium towns. From Simsbury to the northern end the pavement is mostly good (some Friday heaves near Simsbury ) and is really good the further north you go. People are generally considerate on the trail and bike traffic volume is relatively low even on a nice weekend day in August. Highly recommended bike trail for short medium or long rides if you like relatively flat trail riding on a paved surface.

A great place to walk or bike

A wonderful place to walk or bicycle for the whole family. There are restrooms along the way at certain points. These can be found on their map online.
