We are fans of Fess Parker wines and were pleased to be able to get to their winery. Magnificent location, great variety of wines, friendly staff. Great spot for a picnic or a wedding. Too bad there's no food available to make the visit perfect.

Nice drive north into Santa Barbara county off of 101. Beautiful canyons surround this winery at 6200 Foxen Canyon Rd, Los Olivos, CA 93441. THe wines are very good. We bought a bottle of the BIG EASY. Dedicated to New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina. We add an iconic coonskin cap they sell as a bottle topper. THe servers are great to talk with as well.

We really enjoyed this winery. The drive up from Santa Barbara was stunning, the location is beautiful, very peaceful. The wine is very good.

The grounds that the winery/tasting room are on, are large & impressive.
We enjoyed learning the history of the owner.
What made it was the lady that we had for our tasting. She was so bubbly & so entertaining, how would you not sign up for the wine club- so we had to.
What a fun place & the wines were the best of the day.
Can't wait to go back.

We visited on the afternoon of New Years Eve, and enjoyed the very good wines and the spacious tasting room. The grounds are lovely, with nice outdoor seating areas for warmer days.
They offer some very good wines, and the staff is knowledgeable about the winery and the offerings. The tasting fee is reasonable and waived for each bottle of wine purchased.

Just a gorgeous winery. You feel like you're in Tuscany. The wines are delicious - the Pinot Rose was amazing. We packed a picnic of delicious cheese and crackers and sundry at the Los Olivos grocery and spent a few hours lolling on the beautiful grass and thanking our Stars for moments like these... Not to be missed!!

Our first visit back in January 2010 was memorable. A nice tasting room, expansive grounds, two for one tasting coupon and the coon skin cap logo wine glass came with the tasting. To top it off the knowledgeable servers made it a fun experience for everyone in the tasting room.
Since Fess passed away, the coupons have gone. The tasting fee is up to $12 and the prices on all their wines are up. We really like the Riesling (not the dry Riesling), and the Ashley Chardonnay. We stopped in to buy both and to try the new Port wine. We had our little 10lb dog with us and they were a little stern about not letting us bring the dog inside. No problem, but even after taking care of the dog and going back inside we got the vibe that we were not wanted.
There were only two couples in the tasting room but I had to gather up some wine bottles on display and bring them to the front before someone recognized that we wanted to buy their product. They finally rang us up but never even offered us a tasting which according to their literature is free when you purchase as much as we did ($100). If the wine wasn't so good, we would have just left and never come back after this visit.
There are plenty of wineries with tasting rooms that are more intimate and welcoming that this one.

Fess Parker was our first wine tasting at an actual winery so we don't have a wide range of comparison...but it was gorgeous and fun! The grounds are a spectacular and a must for a nice, relaxing, bucolic picnic and possibly even a nap. The young man who conducted our wine tasting was fun and outgoing and not stuffy - helpful to us newbies. Overall, a great experience.

While the wine was good, views nice, we were totally ignored as customers! We did manage to buy a bottle of chardonnay and drank it on site, but not a single staff member stopped by our table to even say "boo" to us, offer to sell us food, or sell us a club membership! It was hilarious as they did stop at the two tables surrounding us! Worst customer service I have ever experienced, sure made you feel unwanted! Would not return.

Great winery. Good Wine tasting experience. Enjoyable drive to the winery through rolling hills. No wine tours.

We have been here like 6 times and everytime we like it more and more the grounds are unbelievable . picnic grounds bring your lunch brunch the wine is oh so good the large oak trees for shade and vineyard all around

not too big not too small. bring your lunch goodies and relax on their lawn. tasting room very fun and not not pushy.

We have been members of this wine club for several years. Best Reisling in the Central Valley!

We were never treated so well. James and Adriana are gems for Fess Parker's Winery. Without them I believe sales would drop dramatically. You never had an empty glass. Each took their time to make you feel important. The nice grass area is great for a picnic or just to lounge around in. They are dog friendly, but I suggest leaving your dogs at home. The idea is drinking wine. I love my dogs, but some people don't want to be bothered so be considerate to others. I got off the subject...this is one of the best wineries in Santa Ynez. Please visit.

While visiting our son and his family we decided to visit the Fess Parker Winery (having seen it in the movie Sideways).
The ride from Santa Maria was beautiful. The grounds of the winery were even more beautiful. When we arrived at the tasting center the men behind the bar were exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. As they walked us through the tasting, explaining life at the Fess Parker Vineyards and helping us to discover the subtleties of their wines we capped off the day by joining their wine club - which offered immediate and future discounts.
The Fess Parker Winery makes a wonderful day trip. We will be back.

My wife and I visit Los Olivos often, we occasionally stop at this winery. The grounds are beautiful and there are multiple spots for relaxing with a picnic lunch while enjoying a wine tasting. The tasting room itself is often crowded, and in our opinion the wines are solid (not spectacular), but of course wine tasting is very subjective so you may enjoy the wines more than we do - or not! Still, on a sunny afternoon, you could do a lot worse than spending some relaxing time here.

Fess Parker is rated the number 1 attraction in Los Olivos for a reason. It is beautiful inside and out. We really enjoyed the wines (especially Big Easy) and the staff that was doing the tasting. If you are going to do some tasting in the area, don't miss Fess Parker.

A very special winery. The tasting room with large fireplace and surrounding sofas make you feel like your own living room. I understand that wine preferences are a personal matter, but Parkers's complete wine menu is more inclusive of wine varietals than most. A very wide range of wines to choose from make this different than the surrounding vineyards. Top rated Syrahs and Pinots are the best in my opinion. A number of vintages to choose from. Modest fee to taste is waved if you purchase or are a member.

No charge for wine sampling and we tasted all the wines available plus a couple more that were not on the normal tasting list. They were very generous with their wine pours, unlike most other winerys we visited. Yes, we did end up purchasing some wine.
The grounds and the tasting area are beautiful and had we been earlier visiting the winery we could have had a picinic at the picinic table under the trees.

As a long standing VIP member here....I KNOW the drill....get here early!!!
Place can be a zoo....so you know.... SOLID wine selections and killer view!!!
Ask for my buddy James....or Manager Jonathan!!!

I have been a club member since 2013. Fess Parker is by far my most favorite winery. Each time we go up to Los Olivos we have to make Fess our first taste! The winery itself is so beautiful and peaceful. The Pinots… i love. We just had a bottle of 2019 Pommard Clone that came in my shipment and will have to buy another bottle! This Pinot was so delicious! Put it in a decanter! Wow!! I really can’t say enough about this winery. My mom and several other friends are members too!

I always heard about the Santa Ynez Valley. Although I visited Napa, Sonoma, and Temecula, this area was never a place which I was able to see. This vineyard was the first winery that I visited, and the grounds were spectacular. The server was friendly and informative. I tried many different varietals of wine. I am in the wine business and I was treated amazingly well. There was no vineyard tour, but I walked through various lines of grapes. Also, the grounds were enormous and scenic with huge mountains in the distance.

Outstanding grounds with large picnic area. Tasting room is large and staff is friendly. There are pictures of Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and you can by a coonskin hat wine cover. $14 tasting fee which was rebated in our case as we bought wine. There chardonnays are excellent and I also enjoyed the Traditional American Reserve Syrah.

Really disappointed in the reds. Not worth the money. Charged $14 for 5 short pours. Grounds very nice and great setting for a party or event. They do buses- that should explain a lot!

We have visited this winery every time we come to Santa Ynez. It's a beautiful winery. We always reminisce about Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. Fess Parker was one of many Hollywood actors who had a dream besides acting and succeeded like Fred MacMurray, Kurt Russell, etc. Either our taste has learned about drinking wine or his wine is getting better. The family still owns this winery, which is good.

We visited Fess Parker with high expectations. Totally disappointed! It is a beautiful tasting room and surrounding grounds but it lacks in everything else. I felt it catered to large groups. The staff we’re inattentive and seemed more interested in rushing you through your 5 little tastings and getting you to buy a bottle or two. Don’t waste your time here. Find a nice little winery where the people take the time to know you and educate you on their wines.

They do a very good wine tasting. The servers are knowledgeable about the wines and the history of the Parker family. There are inside & out seating areas plus picnic tables. The grounds are lovely.

My girlfriend and I stopped by here for a Saturday afternoon wine tasting. We arrived about an hour or two before their tasting room's closing time, and their staff also happened to be setting up for a late afternoon wedding in their back courtyard area. Despite the crush of tourists and guests at the bar, the staff busted their humps to keep the wine flowing! The two servers behind the counter were able to remember how far along each customer was into their tasting lists, and they were able to address everyone's questions as needed.
If you weren't already aware: Fess Parker makes some impressive wine! The quality was definitely higher than many of their Santa Ynez / Los Olivos / Buellton competitors. I highly recommend their Dry Riesling!
Their property is beautiful -- tall trees, gently rolling hills, well-manicured lawns, and tastefully-done landscaping and architecture.
My only complaint: they need to make their grounds smoke-free. Nothing ruins a perfect, tranquil afternoon quicker than sucking in the secondhand smoke of some loser tugging on a Marlboro Light ten feet away from your face.

This place is truly amazing. Not only do they offer great wine, but the tasting room and the property is wonderful.
Tips:
The clone wines they offer are great!
Pack a picnic to have while or after your wine tasting. The property offers a great grass knoll area with plenty of shade from tress. There are also plenty of comfy outdoor chairs and couches under an awning.
Make sure to walk around the property and take in its beauty.
This winery is a little far away from other, but it's well worth it. Just be sure to plan ahead and understand that if you are going to drink a bit here to stay and pack a picnic.

One of the "prettyest" rooms we've ever stayed in...attentive staff, relaxing atmosphere, good lookin place, great location, good breakfast (included in price of room)...I would recommend this place to anyone visiting "wine country"

The rooms were cozy, but not worth the money! The staff was slow and not very helpful. At one point we wanted eggs for breakfast... we were told that they only had them on Sundays, but the hotel could not direct us anywhere else. Do not go there looking for a good pool area. It is just OK with a lot of debris in the pool.

We have traveled a great deal and often stop at local wineries. Some are pleasant, some are crowded, some are noisy and some are perfect. Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard is perfect. It was not overly crowded. The Pinot Noir is to die for. We were treated like royalty and given extra tastes. It is a lovey, peaceful experience for anyone in the central coast area.

We wanted to have lunch or at least a cheese plate at one of the wineries in the area and were told to go to Fess Parker! We pulled in to park and the winery from the outside and grounds were incredibly georgeous! What we discovered when we went in was that the cheese plate was only some cut up cheese in a plastic container for $15.00, very disappointing. I recommend to pick up some cheese, fruit and salami and before you go and take it out to the winery, buy a bottle of their amazing white blend and enjoy on othe outdoor patio! OR they are now offering on Saturday and Sunday in November lunch but it will only be one choice, not a menu.

Fess Parker is not the smallest winery in the region, but still has a nice homely feel about it. It has a nice range of wines on offer for tasting and there were plenty that I liked! Well worth the drive up from Santa Barbara to check out a few wineries in the region!

Atmosphere: large shady lawns with comfy couches; tables and chairs near tasting room
Service: friendly
Wine: excellent. We especially liked the 2017 barrel aged Pinot noir. These are quality wines - recommend sharing them with family and friends who truly appreciate fine wines.
Be aware: reservations required for tastings; however, wine may be purchased by the bottle or glass without a reservation.

I use to watch the show, Daniel Boone as a child. Fess Parker's move to Santa Ynez was a great move. Although he is deceased now, his winery is a great place in the Santa Ynez Valley nice wines, good service and a relaxed ambiance where the staff encourage you to sit on their rambling porches to sip wine and nibble on cheeses. Worth the stop when in Santa Barbara County.

What a gracious and lovely property the Fess Parker Winery turned out to be. This was a destination that has long been on my bucket-list, and reality didn't disappoint my expectations. Adriana and Jack were the two I interacted with and by their enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of the wines they were sharing I could tell that both had deep pride in this family enterprise. The Fess Parker name continues its strong legacy. Lucky me, a bottle of Rodney's Syrah flew home with me for my enjoyment on an upcoming milestone celebration.

I really love the setting here. Either do a formal tasting, or just get a glass of fine and sit out on the patio or the lawn and soak up the beauty of the surroundings. The wines are really good too. I especially liked the Ashley's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and the Rose of Pinot Noir or Marcella's white Rhone blend are the perfect sunny day wines to sip in this environment. Don't tour the area without a stop here.

Really nice wines and especially enjoyed the Shiraz. Also had a cute and gift shop. Not too pricey. Beautiful grounds. A must do wine tasting stop in the Los Olivos country.

We visited this lovely winery on a Thursday. It is in a beautiful setting, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had our wine tasting outside where it was peaceful with a lovely breeze blowing. We tried four different wines and each one was good. Several of them were estate wines grown from the vines we could see in front of us. I highly recommend this experience!

Been coming to Fess Parker 21 yrs. Love the wine and the Parker family. You have to try their Big Easy blend!
Visit them in Los Olivos and their Double Tree in Santa Barbara!

My husband & I typically prefer small boutique wineries but decided to stop by Fess Parker winery while driving the back roads of Los Olivos with some friends. We're glad we did. Yes the tasting room is huge and very crowded on a Saturday but the staff, and in particular James, was very good at making sure we weren't forgotten as we went down the tasting list. We were very pleased with the wines we tasted and purchased several bottles. The grounds are extensive and beautiful and the next time we go through Los Olivos we plan on bringing a picnic to the winery. Tables and chairs are provided on the veranda surrounding the tasting room so it makes for a great spot to enjoy a picnic along with some great tasting wine.

Some of the wines are good, but overpriced. The servers always seem like they are doing you a big favor pouring their wine. Tasting fee is $12, Nicely landscaped grounds. Nice tasting room.

Arrived just before closing but two in our party were able to enjoy the wine tasting. Small but tastefully decorated area where you can enjoy your wine or take in the beauty of the area. Lovely stop.

After seeing the movie Sideways of course I had wanted to check this place out. My wife and I got the opportunity recently. Now keep in mind we are novices when it comes to wine tasting, we've only done it a few times so we don't really know good wine from bad. But we enjoyed our wine tasting experience here. The area is beautiful, the establishment relaxed & not over-crowded and our poorer was very friendly & informative. I'd definitely go back the next time we're in the area and recommend it to anyone.

The staff were great and on top of the great wine I loved the property! I wish we would have been able to attend the movie night (they screen outdoor movies at the winery). Can't wait to go back!

This is the place to bring a picnic lunch, taste the wines, buy a nice bottle, and spread out on the lovely lawn to enjoy. The vineyards are right there, and the tasting room is roomie with several bars and lots of help.

We were in the area for a 3 day weekend. This was a very pleasant surprise. A beautiful setting. Attentive service. Coonskin caps to wear in the tasting room if you want. This is a must stop on the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail. Sitting outside on the porch, enjoying the light breeze and sipping wine. We'd do this again and again.

We loved not only the wines but the beauty of the grounds and building. The staff was extremely friendly.
Well worth the trip!

Nice winery with a lovely building in which to sample regional wines. Road out give you a nice perspective on the geography of the region.

One of the perks of staying at the Fess Parker Inn was a free shuttle to the vineyard. We were driven by Jonatahn who was extremely nice, pleasant and so informative about Fess Parker, wines and the vineyards in the area. The Fess Parker vineyard itself is beautiful, pastoral and so serene. There were many seating areas with comfortable sofas surrounding the warm contemporary fireplace. One can picnic in the expansive lawn overlooking the vineyard or play frisbee or just hang out drinking wine. It was a peaceful, calming setting for an afternoon of wine tasting.

Fess Parker has a beautiful, western-styled tasting room, and the wines are delicious. The ride out to the vineyard is lovely as well.

You may know Fess Parker as the actor who played Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett but now you can get to know him -- or his legacy -- as Fess Parker the wine maker. The property he purchased in the stunningly beautiful hills of Los Olivos has been transformed into a lovely winery and horseback riding facility. Generations of Parkers live on the property, but while it's a family operation, it's not a "mom and pop" operation. This is a very serious operation run by very professional people, and they are very concerned about customer service. They are genuinely friendly and polite and are genuinely concerned that you enjoy your visit. From matching you with a horse and leading you, as a group, through the rolling hills and rolling vines past wild horses (truly wild horses) in the fields, to teaching you the history of the area, every step of the ride was a memorable experience. After horseback riding we were directed to the winery. A large and spacious tasting building offers multiple wines and various wine accoutrements, including books and -- the best -- faux coonskin caps for your wine bottle and you. This is as elegant as coonskin gets! The caps are fun but not kitschy. The tasting room has soaring ceilings (and a loft, if I recall correctly) and a long counter with plenty of happy folks who are happy to pour plenty of tasting and award-winning wine. Really a great experience for a couple on a date or a group. We had kids with us and they were very happy to run on the expansive lawns that surround the winery. Los Olivos is known for its wine tasting and this is one place you don't want to miss while you're there.

Unfortunately, we arrived while a large crowd was in the tasting room (not a tour, apparently). It was just not possible to adequately appreciate the wine and the venue, so we left. Will have to try again some time.

Fess Parker Winery then Sideways put Santa Ynez wines on the radar of the general public. The winery thankfully is staffed with pourers who know about the wines. Cost is $12 for 7 wine tastes (we had 3 whites and 4 reds). If you spend $100, the cost of the tasting is refunded. We were a party of 6--and paid for 3 taste flights. Bought a case of the Big Easy--a WOW big red wine--and received a 10% discount, 3 free wine glasses, refunded the cost of the taste flights and they threw in 2 tickets for tastes (4 people) at Fess Parker's son's winery called Epiphany.
Now Fess Parker to me was Daniel Boone. Every kid wore a "coon-skin hat" and carried a flintlock when I was young. Apparently before my time, he was also Davy Crockett on TV. There are these cute "coon-skin" (dyed rabbit) bottle toppers--price is $15. Bought one to put on a bottle of wine that will be a gift. Suspect the topper can double as cat-toy.
The grounds are beautiful. There are picnic tables and food for purchase at the winery.

Located on Foxen Canyon Road in Los Olivos, the Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard is one of the best-known wineries in Santa Barbara County’s wine country, much of that because (as baby boomers know well) Fess Parker was an actor who played American historical figures like Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone on television during the 1950s and 1960s. My wife and I visited there on a lovely day in late February 2025.
NOTE that because of the winery’s popularity, reservations are strongly recommended.
The winery specializes in Burgundy and Rhone-style wines, there is something there for lovers of reds, rosés or whites. The property is large, well-appointed and beautifully manicured, with both indoor and outdoor seating areas – it’s a very comfortable, relaxing environment. One nice aspect of this winery is that the wine hosts come to your table, so you don’t have to stand at the tasting bar. Our wine host was engaging, knowledgeable (but not pretentious) and attentive. The wines were quite good; we ended up purchasing three bottles to take home.
So if you’re visiting Santa Barbara Wine Country, be sure to make a reservation to visit Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard for a tasting – you won’t regret it!

There are 40 or more wineries and tasting rooms to visit in and around Los Olivos—we've been to more than half of them and this is one of our favorites. The drive to the winery alone is worth the trip, particularly in the spring and fall. The wine offering is very good, both in selection and taste, and the tasting room is spacious, with a lot of other merchandise available. The big draw for us are the very large, park-like lawns surrounding the winery—a perfect place for a couple or a family to have a picnic. It's easy to go out there and enjoy your first bottle of newly purchased wine without ever leaving the property.

I had been here a few years back though went again with my wife this time and we both loved the wines. The staff was super friendly even though it was busy. They also poured a couple of wines that were not on the list which is always fun. One of the wines was a pinot, i think it was called clone 115 maybe? And was one of the best pinots I have ever had.
Definitely stop by this place on your wine tour.

We stopped for a tasting at Fess Parker and were pleasantly surprised. I had read
some mixed reviews about the tasting room. Luis was our pourer and was very knowledgable about not only their wine, but the region's wine. He was able to compare CA wines in a way that was educational. Everyone's palate is different but his points were based on experience and knowledge. We found several of their wines very good. There are few wineries I would give an excellent, however, Fess Parker's was very good.

Have been to many wineries over the years and this ranks high among them. I particularly liked their Chardonnay and "Big Easy". Staff was informative and friendly. I liked the winery well enough that I joined the winery - this makes the third of my wineries of which I am a member.

Lovely tasting room, good Pinot Noirs & great staff. Great place for picnic with friends & family. Wonderful photo opportunities .

With a group of friends we did a tasting here a few weeks ago. The person serving us was knowledgeable and very friendly (she is in my picture). Thank you so much for a pleasant tasting! The grounds and area are lovely too. If you belong to the wine club (as my friends do) you get discounts.

Been visiting this winery every time we visit Solvang. Love, Love, Love it. The wine, the tasting room, the grounds, the beauty surrounding this location. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the wines, the family and Fess' history. It's great to hear the stories. This time we joined their wine club and looking forward to our shipments!

We love the drive up Foxen Canyon Road to the Fess Parker Winery during this time of the year. The hills are lush with green grass and during the week traffic is essentially non-existent.
The winery tasting room is set in a great location and well laid out. The exterior expansion has been done well and the interior is spacious and accommodating. Our visit was on a cool day and the large fireplace was a welcome site.
The staff is well informed about the wines offered for tasting; that has been our experience over several visits. The Rodney Vineyard Syrah is a particular favorite of ours.

We used to live on the Central Coast many years ago (moved to Sheridan, WY in 2007), where wine tasting in Los Olivos was one our favorite activities to do on the weekend.
Fess Parker was always our first stop and winery of choice, and we frequented the tasting room numerous times. Of those years we lived on the coast, we had the opportunity of meeting Fess and his wife, had bottles signed by Fess, attended many BBQs, taken family pictures, and have made many memories at this winery.
My husband surprised me with a 26th anniversary trip to visit the coast of CA, and we stopped by the Fess Parker vineyard this afternoon to enjoy both wine tasting and a picnic. We were abruptly turned away. The person who was in the wine tasting room told us that there was no availability and that they were not able to accommodate us with wine tasting since we didn’t have a reservation. When we said that we were visiting from WY, her response was that there were many people visiting from all over the world and that we would need to come back at another date/time. This is the only day we set aside on our vacation to enjoy the various vineyards in Los Olivos.
We are incredibly disappointed by the lack of care and concern by one of Fess Parker’s employees. She was rude and dismissive. Sadly, we will never visit this vineyard again. It is certainly not the place we remember visiting.

Very nice property with a great picnic area. Wine was average and had a good chocolate pairing with their wine. Very busy place but would go back with friends.

If you're of a certain age, you may remember Fess Parker from his Disney work (Davey Crockett, Daniel Boone, Ole Yeller). He used his acting income wisely to invest in properties in and around Santa Barbara, including this winery. Very beautifully landscaped grounds, with just the right amount of Parker's acting memorabilia to give the place a special zest. The tiny hats for FP wine bottles are a hoot, and make a great souvenir. Foxen Canyon Road has many wineries, so be sure to have a designated driver!

Went for a week of wine tasting and started in the Santa Barbara area. Drove north heading to Paso Robles and stopped at Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard. Gentleman at the tasting bar was so knowledgeable and had so much information about the Fess Parker family. It was such a pleasure. Don't miss it.

Far from the crowded wineries of the north, this is a great place to go and buy a bottle or two and enjoy it outside. We were lucky enough to go on a Saturday when they had a band playing and a gourmet food truck. Sure beats the crowded north and the wines were excellent.

Zaca Mesa closed up shop at 4pm which compared to other wineries was a little early and their loss but our gain as we ended up at Fess Parkers. The tasting room is awesome, they have some wonderful gourmet snack foods to purchase to enjoy with your wines. The Mackie's Syrah is the best!

My husband and I visited this winery while vacationing. We found it to be nothing short of enchanting. The grounds are beautiful and spacious. We loved the patio very much. Karen, the tasting representative who waited on us, was professional, friendly and informative. We saw the value in joining their wine club right away and signed up. Karen poured us delicious reds and whites but our favorites were the Big Easy (red) and Viognier(white). We immediately had two bottles shipped to family to enjoy. This very special place deserves 5 stars for these reasons: delicious wines, inviting, relaxing environment, great staff and value. Spend time here and enjoy. I know we did!

Classic SYV wine tasting. Lovely location, beautiful grounds and delicious variety of wines. A hot day but sitting in the cool patio nicely spaced groups on a weekday. We avoided the noise of weekend crowds and picnickers. A most enjoyable way to taste wines from the area.

This is a beautiful place to visit, it is almost like a retreat house. The grounds are massive, it has a great gift shop with great wine and food products. I will definitely go back if in the area again.

We had a wonderful experience at the Fess Parker tasting room. It may have helped that we had Efran, our excellent wine server. He was full of information about the wines, but not stuffy. He paid attention to our likes and dislikes and directed us toward tasting the best wines for our palettes. Efran is full of energy, charm and has great enthusiasm for the wine industry. This winery pulls in a large crowd, which makes it lively toward the end of the day. We ended up buying 3 bottles to take with us. The Big Easy ended up being one of our favorites.

We always loved Fess Parker wines and when in Santa Barbara a few years back, decided to go to the winery. It has become a place for us to always go and visit when we are on the central coast. We pack a picnic lunch and just enjoy ourselves. The tasting room is lovely and the staff has always been friendly and accomodating.

I’m of the age that I remember Fess Parker from TV as Davey Crockett as a very little boy. Living in California but not originally from here, my friends have mentioned about Fess Parker’s resort and winery and I was amazed that he had one.
My wife and I were visiting the Santa Ynez valley vineyards and I had to make sure we had Fess Parker on the list. We enjoyed a few of the winery’s in the area but Fess Parker had to be one our favorites. We didn’t t get the opportunity to stay at the inn we did a tasting at the winery. The wines were exceptional and the tasting room was beautiful.
I highly recommend this place.

We were told at the Solvang visitor center that the Fess Parker winery had great wines and a restaurant. We discovered that they do not have a restaurant but do allow outside food. The wine tasting is about fourteen dollars and they provide a lot of information about each pour. Fess Parker played both Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone in the TV shows and we heard several entertaining tales during the tasting.

This is one of the prettiest vineyards. We have a membership and the savings are wonderful. They are getting many Awards for the whites. We like the Rose also so crisp not overly sweet.

For those of us who grew up in the 50s and 60s, Fess Parker, a/k/a Davy Crockett and then Daniel Boone, was a legendary figure. So it was a natural that we would not miss the opportunity to visit his winery, which we have done several times, most recently this April. And it is always well worth it. The facility and tasting room are beautiful, with covered porches around it where one can relax and taste the wine, have lunch (bring it), etc. The facility is surrounded with the most beautiful rose bushes, mostly yellow, of course, for Texas. The wines are excellent and the staff is very friendly and helpful, and there are a lot of extra benefits for joining the wine club, including discounts at Parker's nearby boutique Country Inn. The winery also holds events for members, such as barbeques, etc., on a large field adjacent to the tasting room. We always stop at the winery since it's excellent and we're supporting a great American icon.

I grew up wearing coon skin caps and watching Fess Parker every week on a black and white TV. I loved him. And I know he had to invest his money in something. But the last time I visited his winery must have been 20 years ago. It's still just as average now as it was then,
I think you need to ask yourself what the difference is between a good winery and a poor one. Certainly the litmus test is: did you buy a bottle (or two) of their wine. Re Fess Parker Winery, I paid my $14 tasting fee and left. All of the wines with the exception of one red (so average I forget what it was and it was only 2 days ago) were very average.
The winery grounds are lovely. Beautiful. The type of place that weddings are made of. The wine? Not so much.
As glad as I am that I tried it again after 20 years of driving past it, it'll probably be another 20 before I do it again. Better yet, I'll just buy a bottle of their wine in a grocery store for $14 and have the whole thing rather than just a couple tastes.
Sorry, I loved him as a frontier man but his wine (may he rest in peace) is very average.

We decided to tour the overall area vs. tasting wines. The tasting room was packed with people, and we shy away from crowds- I love Fess Parker Riesling. I will wait to get some back home. We sat outside and relished in the views of the vineyards and the lovely flowers.
Stop here for the story and history. I did not realize the effect Fess Parker had upon this overall region. This entire area is stupendous!

Absolutely amazing experience with the wine tasting. Special thanks to Lexie and Brice! They made our visit! We can’t wait to drink the wines we bought! We will be coming back!!!

My wife and I visited Fess Parker for the second time. The first was several years ago and we had a good time so we decided to try it again. It was very busy. The person helping us was very nice and efficient. I guess my palate has become a bit more sophisticated because this time around I found the wines to be very average. Nothing really special. The tasting seemed a bit rushed. It is a big commercial operation. I find smaller family operated wineries a better experience.

beautiful grounds short drive from Los Olivos, worth the trip. Friendly staff, we took a lunch from Paninos in town and had bottle of wine on the veranda. We had joined the wine club at Epihany which is of the same ownership so free wine tasting

This was our 2nd time to Fess Parker. We loved our first experience last spring, and brought our married kiddos back for this trip. We did become wine club members in the spring, so we were able to have a free tastings included. We went to the barrel room (wine club members) and enjoyed the atmosphere and wine flights there, then went up to the public wine tasting area, sat down outside (just lovely!) and brought out our crackers, bought a variety of cheeses, and enjoyed a few more flights with our cheese and crackers.
On this trip what we noticed was the people who work here, i.e. the "pourers" are engaging, friendly and seem genuinely happy to be doing what they are doing! We found at other wineries, well, some of the pourers are just so business like, even a little snobby. Not so here.
The only thing is when it gets really busy, well, the tasting room up front can get pretty crowded. We suggest grab your wine, get your cheese, chocolate and crackers go sit outside! Really lovely!

We’ve been visiting Fess Parker Winery for years—making the drive from Los Angeles regularly and always bringing our dogs. It was one of the few wineries that combined great wine, beautiful views, and a relaxed, pet-friendly atmosphere. That’s why this past visit on Saturday, June 21, was such a letdown.
Without any prior notice, signage, or warning (despite years of visits without issue), we were informed that dogs were no longer allowed in the main tasting area and were told to sit far across the vineyard, away from the experience we came to enjoy. It felt abrupt and dismissive—especially for returning guests who’ve never received a single complaint or indication this was ever a problem before.
We completely understand that policies can change, but it’s the way it was handled that left a sour taste. No communication, no courtesy—just a sudden shift that left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed.
Unfortunately, this marks the end of what had been a long-standing tradition for us. We’ll be taking our business to other Los Olivos wineries that continue to prioritize hospitality and consistency.

We stopped here for a short wine break. The drive in is beautiful. Mountains all around. The setting is park like. The parking lot is gravel. I saw lots of people coming in and sitting with their own food to eat lunch. Several picnic tables to choose from. I ordered a bottle of the Riesling Wine. Very good. Not too sweet, just right. The staff behind the bar was very knowledgeable about the wines. Definitely a place to go back too. They do offer food but did not have any and there is a section where you can have a large party with a fireplace outside. The inside is quaint with comfortable seating. A gift shop is also inside.

We liked the enthusiastic people pouring the wine in a cavernous setting; the tasting is free if you stay at the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn and Spa. It was a good idea to order sandwiches from Panino in Los Olivos and cart them with us on the 20-minute drive through interesting scenery to the winery for a picnic. Take a glass of your choice outside with your food (and bring a bottle of water). A dog may visit your table: He's the grandson of Fess Parker's own dog -- and can be something of a nuisance.
We liked the selection of wines, bought one, didn't like the most expensive Pinot as well as others. Overall, great fun.

Stopped in here in February and discovered awesome Chardonnay. I'm not normally a white wine drinker but this Chardonnay is exceptional. I think I will be stopping in there again. The staff is very very helpful. And also the setting is just beautiful.

My wife and I visited Los Olivos yesterday and visited their tasting room to try out their great wines. I have had them before and was looking forward to drinking some more. I am glad to stop by and will do the same in the future.

I didn't have high expectations because friends told us about a bad experience they had several years ago. But, I went along because a friend had a 2-for-1 tasting coupon. I was pretty impressed with their selections. My friend left with a bottle of white wine (don't remember which).
4 stars all around for service, wine, and ambiance. I plan to visit again sometime.
Oh, and feel free to linger a while in the rustic charm of the tasting room. The wine dog might just come visit you and beg for a biscuit.

... but the grounds are lovely. It's worth a visit to see the scenery but avoid the wines which are really pretty darn awful! The staff are lovely, though.

Great stop for baby boomers and matures as you find lots of history from the patriarch and founder Fess Parker aka Daniel Boone! Lovely grounds which are perfect for picnicking. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We always enjoy our time spent tasting here.

Picturesque environment and we liked every single wine we tasted. They have a large tasting room, friendly service and spacious comfortable porch

Of the wineries I’ve tried in the Santa Ynez Valley this one is my favorite. The staff is super friendly and informative. The wine is lovely and when doing a tasting it is nice to step outside and lounge in the outdoor seating area between pours
Loved the relaxed vibe - was there in the morning so that might have added to the quiet atmosphere

We are wine club members and have been wanting to visit the winery for some time. We also stayed at the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn. As it was our anniversary we were upgraded to a suite and it was fantastic. Just an all around great place to visit. The weather was ideal. 50's at night mid 70's during the day. Perfect for some outdoor wine tasting and picnic. Best deal of all the is the package at the INN that included a driver for a day of wine tasting and picnic lunch. Had a great time.

Been looking forward to visiting this winery for a long time. Was not disappointed. They make some very lucious Pinot Noir. Happily joined the wine club plus took9 bottles home to get a head start.

We almosted skipped the winery, but it had been recommended by at least one wine drinking friend. Our thinking was that it was probably a movie star's hobby winery and that the wines would be average. We were pleasantly surprised and loved the Pinots and Syrah's buying three bottles of each. After watching our daughter run a half-marathon we went back for a member's chocolate and wine tasting and bot six bottles of the 2010 Crockett anniversary Syrah/Petite Syrah blend. Joined the wine club. Great service by a knowledgeable staff. Almost skipped this winery, but it was one of the favorites on this Napa/Sonoma/Santa Barbara trip.

I've been to Fess Parker's winery and tasting room in the past. It never gets old. A nice stop on the way through wine country. It has a large rambling porch out front and a generous patio out back. Staff is friendly and the wine excellent. There are many excellent choices, try "The Big Easy" a nice blended red that can be purchased in stores as well. Take a lunch and buy a glass or. Title for a nice break in the seating areas outside. Well worth the stop when in Los Olivos

out of all the vineyards we went to this was by far our favorite though many think it is pedestrian compared to some of the other labels we thought it was great! The guy doing the pouring for the tasting was extemely pleasant!

No pressure, casual tasting, nice convertsation with server and fellow tasters, bought a bottle for home.Sat out on deck and just took in the warm day and setting.A relaxing couple of hours.

We enjoyed a tasting after having a lovely relaxing lunch on one of the large patios...a real veranda overlooking the grounds. We brought our picnic but there was a staff member grilling something and people seemed to enjoy that as well. The venue has an expanse of lawn and trees, very inviting for walking or picnics.

This was the first winery we stopped at (this year's trip) and it was a real hit with us both. We each did our own tasting here, but I would recommend sharing if you are going to do several tastings. It is surprising how much just " a few sips " can get to you while tasting. The reds here were super tasty. We did end up with a membership here. The lady who poured our tastings was super knowledgable about the wine and the history behind the man and winery. We enjoyed this tasting.

This place brings back memories of watching Fess Parker as Daniel Boone and Davey Crocket on a little black and white TV as a kid in rural Ohio. Anyway, the grounds are gorgeous, the facilities are spotless and the people are friendly. The wines are OK but we didn't buy any since they are fairly pricey. Plenty of parking too. Enjoy a picnic with wine on the grounds.

Very knowledgeable sommelier, Dainer (?) who we really enjoyed chatting to and learning about the local wines and comparing with similar wines from our country in Cape Town

Great rustic feel. The wine was not not my favorite, but I loved the atmosphere. The outdoor space was beautiful. The grounds were kept clean.

What a beautiful property. We arrived early on Saturday, and really enjoyed this vineyard. Friendly staff and good wine. We liked it so much we joined there wine club. Can't wait to visit again! Wonderful location for a picnic!

A picturesque setting while picnicking and sipping delicious wine. What more can you ask for? It's a perfect romantic lazy Saturday or Sunday or any day for that matter. This Winery and Vineyard is one of my favorite.

This was the last of the wineries that we visited. We weren't planning on it, but we stopped in and had a nice, relaxing tasting. Most of the wineries charge extra for your tasting glass, but the one here is included with your tasting...which was a nice surprise. It was busy, but the tasting room is so open and large (like a big family room) that it didn't feel crowded. The grounds are beautiful, too. We went outside on the patio and watched a wedding across the way. Also, if you're looking for a coon skin hat for yourself or your wine, this is the place to get it :) Nice winery to visit!

The Fess Parker Winery was a fun place to visit. The tasting was $12 but it was a comprehensive session. The wines were not cheap, but there were a variety of different priced wines to pick from. The grounds were beautiful. If I was going to be a wine club member, it would be here.

This was my second visit to Fess Parker winery this summer. I had hoped things had improved so I wouldn't need to write this review but sadly they have not. While the servers and hosts are friendly, they spend little time discussing the wines being poured and more importantly all are poured at once and left on your table. Needless to say they get hot! Good spacing for the virus but i will now go to the wineries that pour each taste one at a time.

My Husband, Father & Mother in Law and I tasted wine at Fess Parker. Not only was the atmosphere fun and welcoming, Karen, our wine tasting hostess was FABULOUS! She was fun, informative and a huge part of our experience. We will make a point of visiting again every time we are in the area...

We really enjoyed the wines here, and the people we amazing. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we went back to listen to music in the evening. The wines are wonderful and the scenery was just tremendous. Must do!

The wine is absolutely awful here, but the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Just because of the beautiful area it is worth stopping at.

Beautiful location, terrific staff (Adriana is wonderful, knowledgeable & friendly). The wines are great, and the tastings are the classiest & best-presented that we experienced. I REALLY LOVE the F-Red & took home a bunch of bottles!

We really enjoy our visits to the Fess Parker Winery.
The staff is superb and well versed in the several wine offerings. The setting is relaxing as is the journey up and down Foxen Canyon Road.
We particularly enjoy hearing tales of Fess, his purchase and development of the property and the generational involvement in the business that he created.
On this visit, we were entertained by Jack who has a great feel for the wines, the property and relates interesting tales of his relationship with Fess.
The wine we purchased is laying down for a while but when we open it we will reflect fondly on our visit to this special place.

We love Fess Parkers Winery and never miss a stop here when in the Santa Ynez valley. The winery itself is a lovely building but the grounds outside are gorgeous and a perfect setting for a bottle of wine and a picnic. We are always impressed with their Chardonnays and you can't go wrong with a bottle of their Big Easy. The drive up is a beautiful drive and well worth the drive through the rolling hills. The staff are knowledgable and friendly and even when crowded will make sure to squeeze in a spot for you. We have been wine club members in the past but had to let it go several years ago. We were happy we could join again so we can continue to enjoy their wines on a regular basis. Love the nostalgia of Daniel Boone & Davey Crocket. Fess Parker was a class act!

I saw Sideways ... Actually have a long history with this winery, back when Fess was still around. When Eli was just cutting his teeth In the wine business, the quality of wine went way up here, then he branched out on his own and we followed him to Epiphany and some of the other wineries he had an influence in. Sasfrass Canyon earned the reference given to them Influence proved the movie. Now that Eli has inherited the winery, the quality has improved significantly once again. Fess was a greatly showman and very wise businessman. Eli is a great winemaker. The whole time I was filling out the club membership I kept on saying "I can't believe I am signing up for Sasfrass Canyon", but the wine is well worth it now. We only belong to 3 wine clubs and I am happy this is one on before them.

We had a lovely wine tasting experience here and left with a bottle or two. We made some new local friends for the day who made the experience even more fun, Jack and Matthew were working that day and they were both great!! Jack-- keep spinning the tales!!!

Great restaurant that was part of the Fess Parker Inn. We are primarily vegetarians and were very impressed with the variety of food.

You pretty much need to stop by the landmark winery in this area even if you aren't wowed by the wines. Great location. Beautiful grounds - picnics are welcomed. Friendly staff. Didn't love the wine but worth the effort

I'm sure this is a wonderful winery. My neighbor went and loved it. Unfortunately did not get to try the wine. We were told we needed a reservation. Maybe showing up on a Sunday morning at 10:00 was not appropriate but never heard of needing a reservation before. Have been to many wineries in Napa and did not need a reservation. Times have changed. Staying in Pismo Beach was a little bit of a ride so I'm not sure if I will be back. Would have liked to give a five-star rating

This is a very pretty vineyard with beautiful surrounding gardens. The tasting menu was I think $15 for 5 wines.
I have to say none of them were stand out for me. The whites too tart & the Reds lacking the fullness of body that I prefer.
The sommeliers were informal & friendly.
Overall I'd say go to enjoy the cushioned sofas on the veranda, & let the little people explore the gardens.

This is one of the best wineries to visit in the valley. Outstanding wines, great atmosphere and scenic place to relax, enjoy wine and picnic. Only thing missing is food. SB county won't let wineries have restaurants. But bring some snacks and you could spend a day here. The family is actively involved so you are likely to meet them. Wine club members taste for free, but price is very fair and selection to taste is great for us non members.

I have been wine tasting for decades now, but yesterday at Fess Parker was by far my favorite experience! The setting is magnificent—right at the vineyard with mountain views—but what really made the experience special was our wine educator, Zak. Seriously, this young man is stellar! He is extremely knowledgeable and really helped us enjoy a large variety of excellent wines to the fullest. Moreover, he is just so darn charming! I was there with three girlfriends celebrating birthdays and he treated us like royalty. We had planned to visit two other places that day, but we had such at good time with Zak at Fess Parker (our first stop on the tour) that we stayed there all afternoon! Favorite wine was the Addendum cab (very pricey but worth the splurge for a special occasion), but the Syrah and Pinot are outstanding and a great value. I will be going back and asking for Zak as my server!

We came here with couples for wine tasting. Our host was very knowledgable and helpful. We sat outside with a beautiful view and weather. Amazing experience overall! Would definitely come back!

Stopped by Fess Parker Winery and was very pleased, both with the wines and the staff! Jack was extremely personable, knowledgeable and was hired by Fess Parker himself. Got a nice history lesson from a wonderful man full of personality. In my book, that elevates the experience! Loved the Syrah blend The Big Easy!

We stop by when we are in the area to get some of their Riesling, Ashley Chardonnay, and Port. Today they just happened to have their 2011 Riesling on sale for $99 a case and I couldn't resist.

I have been coming to Fess Parker with my dog (CGC Certified) and never had a problem. This past weekend with a reservation in advance we were told to sit far away in the dirt area. Not a dog friendly place anymore. Sauro Mosti “Directory of Hospitality” needs better training on how to manage customers with complains. I cancelled my membership and will not recommend this winery to anyone. Will never go to Fess Parker again, plenty of other wineries that are dog friendly.

Really nice big tasting room and excellent wines including a Riesling that we bought as it was the closest to Australian Sav Blancs
Bought a few presents as well a they had. Good selection
Plenty of parking good service and nice and clean and welcoming

Beautiful property, great wines, fun staff. Special shout out to Jack for the great Fess Parker stories and history. Very interesting. Love the wines.

Fess Parker winery is my favorite spot for wine tasting. Grounds are so peaceful, staff is friendly & engaging, products are delicious! (Wine & food!) make sure you stop at this 1!

We always enjoy the lovely drive from the Los Angeles area to this wine country. The location on Foxen Canyon Rd. is on the "wine trail" with sign posts to the many wineries in the area. The Fess Parker lies just north off the 101 freeway off of state route 154. The property is lovely, with a large dirt-covered parking lot including limited handicap parking spots. The large building where the tasting room lies is surrounded by a large covered porch with comfortable chairs to sit and sip wine. The tasting room is large enough to handle at least 50 people and there is a second area that can take care of any over-loads. There is a $15 charge to taste the wines that they are featuring, unless you belong to their wine club where there is no charge. They offer various kinds of wines that they produce on property. The serving staff are friendly as well as informative and can answer various questions about their wines, We believe that Fess Parker is a terrific stop on our way to the many other wineries on Foxen Canyon Road.

We visited several vineyards. All of them have their own "personality". I would describe Fess's personality as warm, inviting, genuine, and friendly. We sampled through their tasting protocol and purchased a couple of bottles from them. The two we bought, we thought, tasted exceptional. My companion is a Level-1 Sommelier and she knows good wine from bad, come on. Even I know what tastes good and what doesn't. Nonetheless the reception we experienced from the staff was stellar. We had a great time ! Not to be missed if you are up around Los Olivos checking out the many vineyards there.

This winery should be on everyone's must-visit for a few reasons - first the wine selection as its high quality, great tasting and served with care. Secondly, the staff are outstanding - friendly, outgoing and informative and lastly - the setting. It's a more modern facility surrounded by stunning picturesque views and vistas. Its peaceful, inspiring and well maintained - all that help contribute to a great experience here. My visit yesterday was A+. Not sure how any other review can be less than 5 stars as everyone around us was having an equally wonderful time. Just be sure to make reservations which are not difficult to do at all - guests can't expect to just walk in and get immediate service.

The Pinot Noir from St. Rita Hills was excellent and so was the white chardonnay even though am not a fun of white wine-ended up buying and become a member...excellent wines and excellent service. Thank you James for those two wine glasses plus we ended up doing double tastings and paid nada since I bought 6 wines...

First visit here. Recommended by friend who knows vineyards & operations. They are clearly experienced, know what they are doing. Remote, out of the way but well worth a visit and try.

The winery was warm and beautiful - homey with a large rock fireplace. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to try 5 different wines - which we bought all of them. We were told the history of the winery and met Fess Parker grandchildren's dog. This winery was more on the rustic side than those in Oregon but just as wonderful.

We were hesitant to stop in after tasting in several more intimate tarting rooms but glad we did. Wish I could remember our server's name. She was so welcoming and bubbly and sincere about it. We stopped by the first counter nearest the front door. It was busy despite being a Tuesday, albeit the day before New Years Eve. It was cold outside and they had a fabulous fire in the large fireplace to warm it up. We ate lunch outside and were happy to get input of the cold and the wines did not disappoint. Loved the Pinot and Syrah. Also loved the tasting glass with a Daniel Boone hat so had to get one of those. Don't be intimidated by poor reviews, the wines are delicious and the service great. Yes, it can get crowded. But it's a huge tasting room, you can find a spot to enjoy the fantastic wines! We bought enough wine to waive the tasting fee too.

The view from the patio was nice but the server was not knowledgeable and we had to wait a long time for the next pour, even though there were actually very few guests to be attended to.
As if that was not enough to warn us off, we actually got three bottles to take home. But when we received our credit card statement, it shows they had duplicate charged us! Worse, when I called to clear it up, not one but two employees gave me the runaround and denied that they showed there was a duplicate charge. I told them that each charge had a different transaction number listed on my credit card, but rather than look into it they said they would have some other person contact me with “any additional information”…
Maybe I’m being a little cranky here, but being charged twice for the same purchase on my credit card statement is all the “information” I need. I was hoping they would return the duplicate charge to me voluntarily, but instead I had to file a claim with my credit card company!
Unbelievable!!

You will be treated like a friend by the staff and you will make new friends while tasting the wines. My wife and I met two different couples and two different staff members. All were great to talk with over a few classes of wine. The wines are better there than in the stores. I do not know why. Ones that I had from a liquor store tasted watered down. The grounds are beautiful with the smell of rosemary everywhere. I will go back. Fess was my childhood hero as Davy and Daniel. Going there was me going to visit where my hero walked. All of those that you will meet, will tell you the same thing.

Had to stop in if just for pleasant memories of Davy, plus old Fess makes some mighty fine wines to boot. Super nice tasting facility, friendly staff and ease of transactions. Fun.

We did the Sideways self-wine tour this past weekend. (Without drinking from the dump bucket!)
The experience at Fess Parker didn't start off great. The hostess kept telling us that if we sat inside, the service would be slow because no one was assigned to serve that area. Which makes no sense. If you have seating, then you need to assign it to someone. Then we weren't told how to get the menu, and apparently asking questions of the hostess didn't improve her level of service. Because then we had to ask again how to start our tasting.
Finally after 20 minutes or so, Casey appeared. (Not sure how to spell her name.) Wow... things picked up. She was friendly and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions with a smile.
The tasting fee is fair for what you get. I appreciate that they have water available, but while handing out aluminum cans of water reduces single use plastic bottles, it increases aluminum usage. Switching to reusables is the better option... and there is no reason why the staff can't use something reusable.

The winery is pleasant. The staff is great. The tasting is a little pricey at $14 and the wines are even more expensive. Would be nice to see more info on Fess displayed.

California park oasis is how I would describe this property and tasting room. We stopped here on a lark. The team manning the tasting room could not have been more friendly and willing to share the wonderful history of the original proprietor. Such an unexpected gem!!

Short drive from Los Olivios, beautiful estate, extensive grounds, easy parking. Tastings $14 for 5 samples....I only drink white/ rose so kindly substituted the reds for two more whites. Came away with a lovely Rose from the tasting menu and a delicious Dry Riesling which I wouldn't have tried if hadn't of asked for a white flight.
A few people had bought wine inside and were sitting under shady trees with a BYO picnic.

If you want a peaceful afternnon and wine tasting, buy a gourmet sandwich in town or bring a pinic, and visit Fess Parker Winery. If you like to be outdoors with a glass of wine and a bit to eat, spread your blanket out on the beautiful parlike surroundings, grab an outdoor table, or one of the seating arrangements facing the beautiful grounds and enjoy a wonerdful afternnon with family or friends. You can buy a bottle, or a wine tasting. to enjoy inside or outside. I joined the wine club and got a discount on a beautiful bottle of "The Big Easy". You will love the friendly feeling from the lovely setting, and emplyees.
Kids and Dogs love it too!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at this winery. Remembering Fess Parker as Davey Crocket and Daniel Boone on the Disney shows, we had to stop while singing the theme song. The wood work inside and outside of the grounds was well done, and the spacious parking and grounds were beautiful. Plenty of parking available even with a pick-up party going on in the patio area. I wish I wasn't the DD for the day; I would have loved sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine, reminiscing Fess Parker, the actor of adventure shows in my youth. The wines were excellent and the selection of wines on the tasting list was well balanced. I will be back.

Enjoyed tasting through several Fess Parker wines. Nice atmosphere in tasting room. Can’t say staff was overly friendly but would not stop us from going there again. Lots of picnic area and pet area.

A very good stop near Solvang. We enjoyed the 5 fight tasting and the gorgeous surroundings. The wines were good and the memorabilia from Fess Parker's career enhanced the visit.

We tasted here and ended up buying the 2010 Dry Riesling and the 2009 Big Easy (a syrah, petite sirah & grenache blend). We took home two complimentary wine glasses. We really enjoy the Santa Ynez Valley, but hadn't explored this end of it. The setting is beautiful, quiet and serene. One of our party joined us a bit late, but the server did an excellent job of keeping track. Our visit was at the end of the day, but no one rushed us.

Pack a picnic and spend the day with wine, sun, frisbee, or whatever. There is plenty of room. One of the few kid friendly.

24 years ago we were newly weds in Solvang...and because I wanted to see my childhood hero "Davy Crocket we just had to make it to the Fess Parker Winery. I was lucky enough to meet Fess, shake his hand and talk about all the old times of his movie carrer. He knew a mutual actor friend of mine (actually the minister who married us) Edson Stroll, and we had a great time. Now we were once again there on our 25th wedding annaversay and stopped by, the wine sampling was great, the retail house was really upgragded and quite beautiful also but, I wanted to get a simple T shirt and some wine glasses with the "Coonskin cap" logo, to replace the ones that got broke years ago...nada. I was told the shirts were on back order and they didn't make the glasses with the logo anymore...WHAT!? Who's the inventory control person? Does it take a genius to figure out, "We're getting low on XX, we need to order more XX. And why wouldn't you want to brand yourself by letting people advertise for you, by using something with YOUR NAME on it...for FREE? Here's a tip from marketing 101: When you're already famous, if you put your name on something people will buy it, because it says "They've been there". We still love you Fess!

Beautiful vineyard with incredible wines and a wonderful staff. Loved the country vibe here and enjoying a glass of wine outside surrounded by greenery and horses frolicking freely just across the way. The tasting room is quaint and they are very generous with their pours.

This is a great winery. It does get busy on the weekends, so if you can go during the week, you will be pampered!

While the winery was impressive, the wine tasting enjoyable, and the people we met very nice; the view driving up the mountain was so spectacular that it was worth the trip before we even arrived. The positive experience we had once at the winery was a bonus.

Our horseback ride with Katie Parker - granddaughter of eponymous founder of the winery - was filled with beautiful views, lots of animals and great stories about pretty much everything. Loved Katie, dogs Boo and Lacey, goat Lupe and our trusty steeds Stretch, Simon, Napoleon and Laverne. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

We loved visiting this winery with three generations of our family. We three wineries over the course of the day and Fess Parker was our favorite! Adrianna was a fantastic host, loved her descriptions of the wine. We left with a bottle of Big Easy and were happy campers!

I didn't know anything about this winery, it was on our way out from visiting Andrew Murray. What caught my eye when we walked in was the Davy Crockett hats at the winery. Turns out, Fess Parker portrayed him in the Disney TV series. That was really neat to learn. I really like when the wineries take the time to tell you the whole story off their wines.
Stop by if you're in the area, you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful ambiance - the landscape, the winery, the library room where our group did a library tasting. Our tasting guide was excellent but we felt that Pinots and Chardonnays don’t age that well. More current vintages are probably better. The Barrel tasting might have been the better option but would love to come back to experience that tasting.

The staff know their wine and are very friendly. The grounds are very nice

Our dogs are good off leash and we were in an area were we were playing ball with our little ones some worker with French accent came out with nasty attitude and told us to put our dogs on leash. Why they were not bothering anyone. not dog friendly place at all. The whole feel of this place has changed since Covid. Very sad.

This is a big place for large groups and wine buses. Very attractive modern buildings and pretty grounds. Wine was so so.

We decided to go to this particular winery due to the name of Fess Parker. My daughter-in-law’s dad was a big fan. My husband and I definitely watched Daniel Boone. The Winery was very spacious inside and out. The patios and fireplaces inside and out were fabulous. We had three tasting specials. More important was the good time in a very relaxing place with our two sons and daughter were special. What a day in a beautiful vineyard.

We missed meeting Fess Parker ( AKA Daniel Boone & Davey Crockett) by just over 2 years as he passed away in March 2010. His memory lives on there at his winery. The building itself is amazing but there is not much to the grounds to see. We bought & tried the Riesling & Chardonay which was A+. They have lots of gifts to buy & Fess Parker branded items including their wines. They also offer wine tasting for a fee.

Make sure you bring a designated driver. Its a little drive up the road but a worthwhile trip for fans of Fess.

We visited on our twins 21st Birthday and it did NOT disappoint! We had a wonderful tasting and our server was outstanding! The wines are all top picks from our week in Solvang! We were there on a Sunday and had lunch while tasting. The food cart was hands down a delicious meal!

12 buck for tasting 5 wines .take wine in courtyard or sit in the garden p,very picturesque.
All the servers have great personalities with stories
Take a picture with duvet crocket, cap,in front of the fireplace
Bring your own cheese to pair withe the wine
The Chardonnay is wonderful joy oakie

We were driving in this area on a rainy Monday, and decided to stop. There was not much traffic at the other wineries, but this one had several cars in the lot. The tasting room is beautiful, and there was a fire going in the fireplace. The tasting was $14, and you get to try 6 wines. At the end of the tasting the attendant asked if we would like to revisit any of the wines. This was a really nice touch - we tried one of the wines again, and then we were offered to try the port wine, which was not on the tasting list. We also enjoyed listening to stories that one of the attendants was telling about Fess Parker. Also, scenes from the movie Sideways were filmed here.

The grounds for this winery are fabulous. You can taste the traditional way - step up the to bar and have them pour. Or you can sit outside and have them come to you. We sat outside and they came to us. We brought a picnic lunch. There is a large grass area for families to play and picnic. You can bring your kids and there is somewhere for them to go. The wine was tasty. I bought several bottles of the Rose. Joined the wine club - which I didn't think I would do. There wasn't any pressure. I can see us going there more often either just the two of us or with family. It is a very relaxing setting. Plan to spend some time there.

Before the big house winery, they started out of a tin shed. Wine was terrible. Now, it has come into its own. Wine is consistantly good, especially the reds. They use to give nice tours, but not sure if they do anymore. WONDERFUL place to picnic. Grounds are beautiful. Staff, friendly.

beautiful spot. Ranch was a treat. Many are small and not as impressive. Staff attentive. Tasting was good and staff offered more than on the menu, and all were fun with great smiles...even the dog like me.....the Coonskin hat for wine bottles sold me on the Fess Parker Winery....I bought and really like the Chardonnay 2012 and 2011.....the not-Port-Port is worth a sample and a bottle to take home

We joined the Fess Parker wine club when we visited last year in 2021. We had a wonderful experience and the staff was informative and helpful.
One year later, all I can say is we were very disappointed. We made a tasting reservation, had to track down someone to let them know we arrived and we indicated we were wine club members. One staff person in particular really could care less about us. We asked questions about certain wines and all we got as an answer is “we don’t have those here, you need to order on line.”
Another girl came over after to help us and she was more pleasant, but the tone had already been set.
We still enjoyed the wine, but not the experience. We may be replacing this club with another one soon.

A little difficult to find, but it was worth the drive. Loved the Davey Crockett items for sale. Wine was good but somewhat pricey.

Last weekend my husband and I attended a family wedding reception at this venue, and I highly recommend it if you're considering hosting such an event in the area. There's a very large grassy area where the pre-dinner beverages and appetizers were served. Though it had been a warm afternoon, this was after 5:00, and the sunlight filtered through trees made for a lovely prelude to dinner, which was also al-fresco, at the side of the winery. It's grassy, too, where the dinner tables were, but there's a paved area, great for dancing, around which the tables had been placed, and the winery itself shades diners from what otherwise might have been the blinding setting summer sun, It's located 10+ miles from Solvang, at the end of a winding road past fields of grapes, past other wineries, making for a lovely journey, a sort of metaphor for the life's journey we'd gathered to celebrate. All-in-all, a really charming experience.

This was the first ever winery we’ve ever been to. Our wine expert was amazing! He not only was an expert on the wines themselves, but was fantastic at teaching us how to thoroughly enjoy and understand what we were trying. He also had excellent knowledge of the history of the winery and in depth knowledge of the wine making process. His passion for wine was obvious throughout the tasting. We left with several bottles, and very happily signed up for their wine club. We hope to come back to this winery again soon!

Great winery! The grounds are beautiful and so is the tasting room. The people were friendly and informative. The wine tasting was great as we enjoyed almost every one we tried. We strolled around the grounds and found it very relaxing. Cute coonskin caps for sale to bring home as a souvenir for grandchildren!

We were on the Fess Parker Inn wine tasting package and started our out of town experience here. The drive from the Inn in Los Olivos was easy and we were happily greeted by beautiful vineyards, rose bushes, rolling greens and a magnificent stone tasting room.
Once we received our first tasting we were told we could sit outside to enjoy the wine. There were sofas and tables all along the covered patio with people enjoying their wine and the beautiful day. It was easy to go back in and get our next selection. There were children running around playing as well as well behaved dogs having a wonderful time.
The Fess Parker wines are very good, but since we have a number of their wines at home, we decided not to purchase any at this time.
This would be a wonderful place to come back to with a picnic lunch and enjoy another tasting. Think I will plan that soon.

We stopped in to visit during the afternoon of New Year's Eve. The grounds were very nice and well kept. We found families picnicing and dogs stretching their legs on the outside. Inside, we found the staff to be very helpful and knowledgeable. My wife really liked the coonskin cap logos on the wine glasses that came with the tasting.

This is a must stop if you are in the area. The tasting room is lovely with great scenery.
If you bring lunch you can buy a bottle and sit in the gardens - just delightful!

The grounds are beautiful, the wine is worth tasting and not overpriced. James was awesome. Definitely worth a visit!

When driving down the Foxen Canyon wine trail from Santa Maria we always try to stop at Fess Parker. The service is great and we like to take our tastings outside onto the patio area to enjoy the well maintained lawn and growing fields. Also a nice place for pictures.

Fess Parker has a beautiful location and nice tasting room. Staff were friendly and attentive. Wines are pretty good. They have a large picnic area if you want to bring food and enjoy a bottle.

This was our first visit at Fess Parker. Been to other wineries in the area. We did the reserve, more expensive tasting for $16, seating outside, outdoor area. This is a must stop! You get to taste better wines, you can order food. You get to relax and enjoy what you're tasting. We walked away with 4 bottles of wine. Enjoy!

The ride to the winery was the best part. The views of the countryside are beautiful. The winery itself is in a beautiful setting. But the attendants in the tasting room were not of the quality we have experienced elsewhere.

We enjoyed visiting Fess Parker before "Sideways" came out, but it is always fun to taste wines where Miles drank the spit bucket. They have good wines, and a fun atmosphere that includes a lot of local food items for sale as well...my wife is hooked on the smoked mozzarella dip.

We took our friends wine tasting on a Friday morning recently, we started with Fess Parker - which was great! Jack a long term employee there served us wine and wonderful histories of the vineyard and of Fess. Lovely place and we loved their wines- we are now club members there.

Very nice patio area and water bowls for the dog. Staff was extremely friendly. Sat outside because I had my dog with me. They were extremely nice to the dog. They had a door where they could serve through to the patio area. They seemed to pay attention and have my next tasting ready without me having to go inside every time. My dog was allowed to be off leash and he had a great time running in the grass area. The wine was good, the staff was extremely nice (to me and my dog). Would definitely stop by. Although it was a hot day, they had enough patio cover and shade that it was pleasant.

My wife and I loved, loved, LOVED our wine-tasting adventure at Fess Parker. We've been there pre-COVID, but the outdoor venue was spectacularly scenic. Our enthusiastic host (Kasie) presented our tastings in a visual spectrum and was knowledgeable about all wines. We left with some bottles to enjoy at home and look forward to our next visit. We will need to have Kasie again.

Have been to this winery a few times and always have very pleasant experience. Went on this past memorial sunday, tasting room was not any more crowded than other sundays. Tasting host was funny, efficient and knowledgeable (it's better to share one wine tasting per winery if plan on going to several, worked better for us anyway), good syrah and pinot noir, got a few bottles of syrah, the big easy and port-style red as replenishment. Opened a bottle of viognier and enjoyed it while there at their beautiful ground and gorgeous weather we gratefully had, read a few chapters on the ipad, I can certainly do this everyday.

Ol' Davey Crockett scouted out a beautiful place for his winery. The whites are so good (and I don't generally go for whites)! Beautiful grounds that are set up for picnics. The people are so nice and enthusiastic and passionate about their wine!

I've been here before but seemed to like the wines better this time. We were pleasantly surprised to see they have a port now. I just love the grounds and the views there, too.

For our 30th anniversary last month, my husband and I took a Napa trip. After that, we went down to SoCal to celebrate my mom's 85th birthday, and I had also made a reservation for the Fess Parker Harvest Lunch. Well, this turned out to be the highlight of our entire vacation! The winery tour we had at Fess Parker as part of their annual Harvest Lunch was better than any of those in Napa. Not only did we get "up close and personal" to see a good part of the winemaking experience, but my husband was actually allowed to punch down the cap!
And the lunch itself was just SO nice, with about two dozen of us seated at tables of six in the beautiful outdoors -- it was a GORGEOUS day -- with a winery VIP serving as host at each table. We were fortunate to be seated with the winemaker, Blair Fox, who was just so friendly and informative. The other VIPS were Eli Parker, son of Fess Parker; the winery production manager (sorry, I did not get his name); and Tim Snider, Fess Parker's son- in-law. (Yes, just like in Napa, I guess nepotism is alive and well in Los Olivos, too!) All kidding aside, Mr. Snider is very well qualified for the job!) The lunch itself was simple -- just a chicken pot pie and salad, but we had about five wines altogether to sample during the meal. (My personal favorite, though, was the sparkling rose they served before we were seated.)
The cost was $70 a person but the experience was VERY well worth the price. Even though it was held on a Friday, if we lived in SoCal, we would take off a day of work to go again!

We really enjoyed our visit to Fess Parker winery. The tasting was wonderful and a wine glass was included in the price. Our server was very friendly and answered every one of our questions. Well worth our time to visit.

Grab a lunch to bring out here to enjoy the beautiful property and yummy wines. We went here and a group of friends were enjoying a birthday with their own food and Fess Parker wine.

This winery has a great outdoor seating area as well as picnic tables. Their petite Syrah is really good, a stop here while visiting the wineries is worth it

Spent an hour and tasted great wine on our travels around Los Olivos. Great place for a picnic which lots of people were taking advantage of. Take the road to the end for some beautiful site-seeing of the Valley and a historic church at the end.

Having little to no access to Fess Parker wines, my only real basis for these wines was the "Frass Canyon" scene from Sideways. To my (pleasant) surprise, the Fess Parker wines are quite good, and our host (Ephraim) went out of his way to assure we had a great experience. Forget the spit bucket scene and enjoy some fine wines at Fess Parker.

It wasn't busy when we stopped. Our pourer was super friendly. Liked the 'big easy' but bought the 'little easy' to enjoy on the grounds. They do not sell glasses of wine so I had to buy a full bottle. The patio was not inviting- guess it was too close to closing time. Loved the crackers called Neva betta. Going to look them up when I get back to FL

On our visit to California in February we went to quite a few wineries and observed that it isn't just the wine that makes the visit, but the tasting room attendant makes the experience enjoyable or not. We so enjoyed Dana who made our experience one to not to forget and we'll certainly stop there again sometime. It wasn't just the great wine that made us smile as we walked out, but also the marvelous visit with Dana!

Wow! This place is located in a beautiful area and we had a very memorable experience. We started with the horseback ride through the farmland and vineyards, our guide was so lovely and the horses were extremely well trained so it made for a relaxing ride. We then drove up to the main building for our tasting, which was led by very knowledgeable staff and we left with a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir. Beautiful architecture, I could see why this is a popular place. Can’t wait to return!

So nice. The grounds are stunning, the servers were so kind and the wine was very good, especially The Big Easy. It's nice drinking wine made by Daniel Boone's family.

Fabulous wines, great staff, and a gorgeous winery. We became wine club members after our first visit over a year ago and have been back several times and look forward to our shipments as well.

We were very impressed with the beauty of this vineyard and tasting room. The pours were very good, and the wines were impressive. Definately a worthwhile stop.

Visited the Fess Parker winery unfortunately without enough time to take the tour, so we did the next best thing: signed up for the wine tasting. Jack, our tasting host, was personable, pleasently chatty, and most knowledgable of all things wine. Great tasting Chardonney and Viognier. The "Big Easy" red was a hit with our group. Just had to take a case home. Located in a terrifically cool area around Los Olivos. Join the Wine Club and receive a worthwhile discount. Tasting fee may be waived if you buy a certain quantity; ask for the details.

For serious wine people with dogs and/or kids you can skip the visit. My husband and I are club members of Fess Parker and we have visited in the past with our two dogs. Their wines are excellent. However, when we go to the Los Olivos region to taste wine we are looking for relaxing outdoor venues where we can get comfortable, taste new wines with a view toward puchasing bottles for our collection, and enjoy the views and the beautiful weather. Fess Parker provided this in their lovely canopied lounge area next to the main building. Then someone must have complained that dogs and kids disrupted their enjoyment of the venue. If you are visiting with either, you are now banished to a gravel yard up by the noisy road and have your choice of sitting at a picnic table, or if you are lucky enough to get one, a low wine barrel with some wicker chairs. Need water? or to use the restroom? You will need to walk back up to the main area to get both. How about flipping the arrangement? Childless/dogless people sit up by the road and we get to sit in the lounge area. Let's see what reactions you get. I'll bet it would not be well received. I really wanted to vote with my feet and leave the venue but we gave it a shot and sat there. Sandra was our lovely server and patiently listened to our feedback. In the end we bought half a case because their wines are very good as I said before. But we won't be back to the venue. Instead we will visit the sprawling peaceful lawn at Melville, the cozy deck at Rusack or the dozens of other wineries that don't discriminate against dogs and kids.

Worth the drive from Santa Monica (about 2 hours). The setting is stunning. It was very green due to the time of year and the recent rain. Reminded me a bit of the Lake District in England. Delicious wines. Sampled about 6 in total expertly explained. Great setting. Would bring a picnic if we went again. Thanks!

I visited the vineyards in May 2018. While I enjoyed the time I spent at the vineyard itself, I was disappointed in our horseback riding adventure. I was prompted to write this review as my memories just popped up from my visit and the one single picture from my phone that I had of my mom and I on Mother's Day horseback riding. We spent 2-3 hours on our private horseback ride, but did not have any pictures. I brought a nice, professional camera but was told by our guide, that she would take all the photos of us. We posed throughout the vineyard and it was so nice not to worry about the photos. She got so many great shots of us, or I assume. I was supposed to receive all the photos via email and those never came. I followed up for weeks asking if I could get my photos, I texted, I called, and NO ONE replied. Needless to say, I'm still bitter that I paid for a private tour, it was a memorable day with my mom, and I would have cherished those pictures forever. Even if the pictures were lost by the guide, why not just tell me what happened? Either way, word of advice, the grounds are beautiful and if you do have the option of taking your own photos, go with that.

I went for a tasting in late May with my daughter and her husband. The sommelier was so informative and pleasant. We loved all of the wines. They encourage picnic lunches. We bought wonderful sandwiches in nearby Los Olivos which paired perfectly with our wines. Gorgeous vineyard in rustic spot.

My wife and I stopped in during our recent wine tasting vacation in Los Olivos and were very happy we did. The vineyard and tasting room are in a wonderful setting just outside the town. There is a great indoor and outdoor seating area depending on the weather and how you feel that day. We sat outside in the shade and enjoyed the breeze. :)
The staff was friendly and engaging, and the other patrons there were friendly and just enjoying the day. The wine tasting itself was fun and we tasted several very good wines (which we had shipped home).
I would definitely recommend making Fess Parker a stop if you are in the area.

One of my all time favorite wineries!
Beautiful grounds and great wines. Fess is always a stop when I visit the valley for wine tasting.
This is a great spot for a picnic and is usually our lunch stop when we pack food for the day. There are outside seating areas and vast areas to spread a picnic blanket!

We have been members of Fess Parker Winery for a few years now. We have always loved the wine, staff and the events until recently. There has been quite a change at the winery over the past 6 months or so. It used to be a place to go and enjoy the grounds, relax and have some wonderful wine. The manager at the winery where the wine is being poured has made some changes which has caused staff to complain to us and made for quite a tense atmosphere when he is present. He has even been rude to us on occasion although I don't even know if he's aware of it. He seems to lack the social skills necessary for the job. Sadly, we will be canceling our membership after this next wine pick up along with friends of ours. Hopefully, the winery wakes up and hires a new manager. I would recommend going to their sister winery Epiphany. We have always felt quite welcome there and enjoy the wines.

It's beautiful and has great wines. While there are many wineries in this area, this is one of the top 5. A flagship.

Every time we go south (literally, not figuratively) we must stop at Fess Parker and have a bottle of the delicious Rose'. This time they were out of Rose' so we had a bottle of the bubbly. We love the beautiful grounds. This time it was too chilly for a grassy picnic so we drank by the lovely fire pit. So beautiful. Must stop!

We visited many wineries during a day of tasting and this was one of our favorites. Besides the history of Fess Parker (which we love) the wines he sampled were fantastic. I saw one reviewer wrote that the staff was rude. We did not see any of that, instead, it was quite the opposite. The staff was very friendly and that was everyone that we talked to. The grounds are beautiful and a great place to sip wine and enjoy the view. I would highly recommend this as a stop on the tour.

Went on the trail ride with Vino Vaqueros through Fess Parker Ranch. The ranch is beautiful since it was all green but that may not last long. The horses were good, not your usual trail horses. We are riders & hate when you get horses that are not trained well and hate being on a trail ride. These were top notch & well trained & seemed to love being out on the trail. Our only complaint is that it was a little boring. There wasn't any information given along the ride. Nothing about the ranch, the grape vines, the surrounding area, nothing. And the whole ride was just walking. If we had been novice riders, that would have been fine, but we are experienced riders ( used to work at a horse barn, giving lessons) and the only ones on the ride so a little trotting or cantering would have been fun. I will say that the facilities are very clean & well maintained, a good indication that the horses are well cared for. If you are looking for a leisurely ride though, this is it.
We then went over to the winery for our tasting & enjoyed that very much. Jack was our "pourer" and was friendly & interesting to listen to his stories. He was hired by Fess himself.
This is a fun experience if you aren't looking for an intense ride.

Horseback riding through the vineyards and estate...this was the BEST part of our trip!! We were hesitant to go on a trail ride but this trail ride was like no other in the world! Our "Vaquero" Amanda was greatest! She let us customize the ride and made it so fun! I totally recommend this when you go to the Santa Ynez Valley...from beginners to advanced riders...everyone will thoroughly enjoy it!!!! This will be a forever memory!

After bad experience at Firestone, we came here. Grounds were beautifully manicured. Cute patio to enjoy your wine. Went inside, girl bartender was great! Explained the wines, answered our questions. Wines were very good. Inside was decorated very well.such a pleasant experience overall.

The drive to the vineyards is pretty, the grounds are lovely with a lot of space for picnics. I thought the whole coonskin cap thing was gimmicky, but the wines tasted nice. I wouldn't call anything superb, but definitely enjoyable. They are a bit overpriced, though. I snapped a picture of each label to compare on Vivino. I thought the prices at the winery would be lower than retail, but in all but one case, they were higher than the "average price" shown on Vivino. Some of them by as much as $10. Wine club prices were a bit closer, but I didn't like the wines well enough to join the club. All in all, and enjoyable hour, but not a place I can call a "must not miss".

Walked in wearing our cycling gear as we were riding the Foxen Canyon Sideways route, hoping to taste some wine. The bar Diva greeted us with a 'What Can I Do For YOU?' and had a questioning look on her face, like, 'what are you doing here'. She seemed surprised that I answered 'would like to taste some wine'. The flight list didn't appeal, nor did the staff so we just left. We were welcomed much more warmly at the other 4 wineries we hit that day and even had a few cases shipped home.

We love wine for the experience. We love wine and the tastings for the story. There is obviously history and story with Fess Parker, but this has become so big, commercial, and cold, that it's painful. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves laying on the couches or laying on the yard picnic'ing, but we had been to several great, friendly wineries, the and folks running the tastings here were like "here's wine 1, ok, next, here's wine 2, ..." We couldn't finish our tasting fast enough and find somewhere else we really wanted to spend our time (and money).

The wines I tasted were excellent. The staff was super friendly and the made the tasting very enjoyable. The grounds and tasting room were beautiful. The tasting fee was probably the cheapest of the 7 vineyards we visited. Of course I was a huge Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone fan! I did buy a bottle of the cheaper Chardonnay to take home. The wines at the tasting were better than this but of course they were more expensive. All in all it was one of my favorites.

Too young to watch the Fess Parker of Crocket and Boone fame, my first recollection is from my love of watching the movie Them.
Fess Parker Winery was close to another winery I visited and I ended up disappointed in both of them.
Older gentleman in the Fess tasting room was on a "loop" as he said the same exact thing to every single person while I was there. Loop started with his wife wanting him out of the house and his being hired by Fess and the loop ended with his talking about drinking The Big Easy some 6 nights a week.
Visited once; won't visit again.

Wine & ovrall experience were very disappointing ( two ladies in our group felt ill after tasting) we were also looking for a little daniel boone nostalgia. UnfortunatelyI they only have a picture of fee parker hidden up in the corner and scuzzy hats to try on (YUCK) can you say head lice.
There are plenty of great wineries to visit in the area.
We will never visit again!

If TripAdvisor had half ratings, I would probably give this place 4.5, so I just rounded up to 5 for this review. Setting is very nice, especially if you are bringing kids as they can run and play in the huge open grassy fields surrounding the tasting area. Everything is well done and service was great. I’d only dock it slightly because the tasting menu was a little more limited than other wineries we went to in the area, and to be honest, unless you like dry whites the wine just was not as good as some of the other wineries in the area. But still well worth a visit and a great place to have a picnic.

Just the drive to the winery is worth it. If you are coming from Santa Barbara take 154 across the mountains for some spectacular views. And Foxen Canyon is beautiful with its vineyards and horses. We spent a couple of relaxing hours at the winery tasting room. The staff did not rush us through it. Instead they were very attentive, were quite knowledgeable about the wines, added a couple additional wines to the tasting list, and most importantly poured some very generous servings! We bought some cheese for our tasting and had a very enjoyable time.

Wanted to visit one of the scenes from the movie "Sideways". This bar was the wine tasting where Miles drank the entire "spit jar". The Fess Parkeer winery was renamed for the movie. The wine and ambience are great nd you are in the heart of central California wine country. Great friendly staff.

The place is beautiful! The wines are great. My parents joined the club and after having joined other wine clubs thought it was quite reasonable - 2 bottles every 3-4 months. $12 for a tasting, with 7 wines to taste. The glass with a coon-skin cap in free and the whole thing is free if you join the club.

While on a business trip with my husband, I decided to take the tour of this vineyard. What a beautiful place! The surrounding hills of grapes and valleys of gardens take your breath away. There is so much history and the tour and tasting added to the fun. I learned a new way of tasting wine! Will definitely come back with the hubby!

We've visited this winery & tasting room 3-4 times, and enjoyed each visit. The location is great, the views are scenic and the atmosphere is wonderful. The wines are very good, and we've come to enjoy their dessert wines especially. The tasting room has something for everyone, in addition to wines; there are also sweets, salsa and other gourmet items for sale. This winery is kid-friendly, and you can also have a picnic on the grounds, if you wish. I recommend this winery.

Can't miss this stop in SYV! The grounds are GORGEOUS, spacious, modern and inviting. The tasting room is bright and airy and the wines are great. We did a private tasting which I highly recommend and the whole experience was just great! Adele was our tasting guide and she did a fabulous job with this crew from New Jersey!

I have always loved Fess wines. So glad I stopped here. Joined the wine club. The tasting room is huge and on beautiful grounds. I really enjoyed the experience and recommend everyone stop by here while in Los olivos.

My husband and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and started the weekend at this winery. Tanna and Adriana took awesome care of us. We tasted and tasted. It was so relaxing outdoors on the patio. We don't have a dog but it is very dog friendly in case you are interested. The wine was great and the ladies that helped us were friendly and very informative. We enjoyed our experience and will certainly come back again.

Totally enjoyed a great sampling of Fess wines in this lovely setting. Our host, James, was so accommodating and so informative. Not to be missed!!

Although we visited on a cloudy, cool day, the Fess Parker Winery is still a pleasant setting with a fire going and nice people to chat with and taste wine. Being the region it is, there are mostly white wines and some reds, not as many reds as I like but enough. Our server was very pleasant and took time to explain the wines, where they came from, etc.

A Library Tasting hosted by Ashley Amarillas. Outstanding experience. Ashley curated a tasting uniquely tailored to our pre-visit communications about our likes and dislikes. The wines were outstanding. The private room perfect. Ashley a fountain of knowledge. And exceptionally personable and passionate about the winery and her role as a personal wine concierge. One of the best tasting and wine learning experiences we have ever had.

We've been to this winery a few times and always are impressed with the service, the wines themselves and the facility. The park-like setting is a joy to be at simply enjoying th gorgeous grounds. Oh yes, this time we actually joined the wine club!

We have Fess Parker wine before and were not impressed, but they exceeded our expectations. The wines were good, but not great. The tasting room is large and airy with a nice patio. Worth the visit.

It had been a dream of mine to visit the Fess Parker winery for several years. After a full day of biking and wine tasting, we were happy to make it to this winery around 5:30 before closing time of 6pm. The girl pouring our drinks was nice but seemed tired and ready to leave. As other guests below stated, there is a large lawn outside the wine tasting room where you can enjoy a picnic. While my boyfriend was finishing his tasting, I decided to check out the lawn and the path around it. There were several other customers milling about. As I walked over to admire one of the huge old trees beside the lawn, a female staff member yelled at me from inside the building "You aren't supposed to be there!" She said it so rudely I was very taken aback and embarassed in front of the other patrons. There were no signs directing people to keep away from that area and I wasn't doing anything besides admiring the view. Instead of allowing me to return to the lawn area and the tasting area where I had just come from, she made me walk through some sort of back door of the winery and escorted me back to the front of the building like a criminal. Her rudeness was uncalled for and it ruined an experience that I had been looking forward to. So much so, that I threw away the Fess Parker t shirt I had purchased there because it will only serve to remind me of this rude, strange and uncalled for encounter.

Did not love this place. It was kind of stuffy and the wines weren't really that good for the price. Least favorite winery we visited in Santa Ynez.

We have had several good experiences over the years at this tasting room and this visit was no exception.
The excellent staff permitted us to deviate a bit from the published tasting program and we appreciated that.
We enjoy their wines, particularly the Rodney Syrah and look forward to opening those we purchased.

Greatest Central Coast Reisling - bar none! Wine club holds events thru the year. Magnificent rose garden, big front porch to relax on and huge lawns for the kids to play.

This winery has the best wines and is in a lovely setting beneath the starkness of the dry landscape. Staff were helpful and the wines were great.

We had a large group and went to the back room for the tasting. Only 2 servers for 30+ people wasn't the attention I expected. And there was no access, not even a peek, to see the wine making process. Compared to many other winery experiences, it's average on my list.

I have NEVER been to a winery. My friend has been here so we stopped in. What a gorgeous place. Even the dog laying on the welcome mat, which was not a planned thing, made it homie. She tasted a couple different wines and we made a purchase and left.
It would have been great to have had more time to spend. the grounds are beautiful!!

How can you not like a place that Fess Parker started. This winery (the site of the famous bucket guzzling scene in Sideways), is beautifully appointed, and filled with delicious wines from the Parker families vineyards. If you are in the area and only visit one winery, make this it. Small fee for tasting unless you join their club (which is worth it if you buy some wine to take away too).

We have visited this winery several times and have never been disappointed. Great wine, lovely atmosphere, beautiful patio -all around good experience. Highly recommend.

We loved the drive up to the vineyard, enjoyed some really nice wine (had a case sent home), and enjoyed being out on the porch, taking in the view - definitely recommend a visit!

We are members of there wine club and enjoy the drop-in hospitality as well as the events they do. Look for the St Rita Pino Noir, well worth stocking some in your wine collection,. Join he the wine club and attend the the release day in early May, Wine, Very good food ( lots of it) and a super crowd. (hint) we go to the Fridayevent, not nearly as croweded as Saturday & Sunday

Great winery, wine and grounds. My wife and I have been a wine club member for over 10 years. Whenever we get invited over to anyone's house they want us to bring FESS PARKER WINE. I think that is why we get invited. We visit many wineries, this continues to be our favorite year after year.
The winery is in a beautiful valley. The wines (all the wines) are my favorite and seem to be all our friends favorite also. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, they have become like family. I wish we lived closer (We live in Colorado), or we would stop in all the time instead of once or twice a year. If you are in the area make sure you stop in.
Added bonus: Very fun to see the "Davy Crockett" and "Daniel Boone" connection and memorabilia.
To sum it up - GREAT WINE, GREAT STAFF, GREAT LOCATION.

We arrived here at 17:10 just 10 minutes after the wine tasting bar was closed. However we got around, took pictures and enjoyed the beautiful greenery. We sat outside on the porch watching the green surroundings and experiencing the silence. Next time I will definitiley come here for an enjoyable wine tasting. I recommend this place to everyone.

Not the best wine tasting experience ever, but not bad for the Santa Barbara area. It can get really crowded, but it makes a great for people watching. The grounds are really nice and looks like a great place for a picnic.

The winery and grounds are beautiful and modern. The same qualities are reflected in the wines. The tasting room is expansive and filled with Daniel Boone memorabilia, for those of us old enough to remember Fess Parker in that role. The wines are tastefully presented and the staff are superior in their knowledge of both the wines and the vineyard.

My wife and I were in town visiting family, and we all came to the vineyard on Friday (7/29). We were amazed by the beauty all around us, and I loved all of the wine we tasted. The staff was very knowledgeable and polite.

Nice Fess Parker memorabilia and accommodating tasting staff.
Very pretty grounds and a perfect spot for a picnic lunch. They have a nice grassy area with several tables and food for purchase in case you don't bring your own lunch.

Scout's Honor. Wine tasting is an amatuer sport unless you're truly a sommelier. Instead of those tiny tastings, pick a pinot, pop it, plop right down and rest a spell with plenty of provisions to please your palate.
Buying your own bottle is better than waiting for the wine steward, who is way too busy anyway, to administer paltry allocations of Fess's finest fermentations. Instead be a trailblazer, explore the wide open winery like Davey and Daniel would, packing your own provisions in case you have to hunker down awhile.

We were not impressed during our first visit here last year, because of the noisy crowds, but because we were doing a "canine wine tour" this month, we decided to return, because the winery is dog-friendly. It was great this time. The dogs (3) almost outnumbered the tasters (4). Staff were friendly, the Christmas decor was beautiful, and the Dry Riesling (not on the flight for the day, but offered as a courtesy) was excellent. Winston and Jack had a drink (of water) and a nice romp outside in the beautiful grounds. The server told us the tasting room was the location for the infamous "Frass Canyon" scene from Sideways, but ...

A rarely touted reward for raising children comes when they live in faraway locations and you get to visit them. In order to score an invite, an essential prerequisite is that you must enjoy good relations with them. We visited our son in LA, where he is in training to become an Irish Sommelier. We enjoyed a one night stay in Solvang CA during an extended California wine tasting tour. Solvang was like visiting Denmark but without the hassle of traveling that far and no need to exchange dollars to Euros. We had a great stay at the Hadston House in Solvang after an enjoyable day at the Fess Parker Winery just up the road in Los Olivos. As Philadelphians, we kept a low profile and resisted asking for a cheese steak. Iggy Mo

We are lucky, we've wine tasted around the world. Fess Parker winery is such a wonderful customer service experience, all for the best.
The wines are good, wine is a personal perferance. We had lots of fun, great time.
I'd go again tomorrow if I could.

We so enjoyed our tasting time at the Fess Parker Winery! We enjoyed chatting with the other visitors tasting as well, some local people who recommended a number of places for us to visit and restaurants to go to. The host at the Winery was friendly and informative about all the wines and had little stories to tell about Fess Parker (he seemed to be a special man who was loved by many people). A scene from the movie Sideways was filmed at the Winery, so my husband and I had a photo op, holding the wine tasting spittoon at the bar like in the movie. Of course they had coon skin hats for sale, so we had to try them on and take a photo!! The day was beautiful and we could walk around the vineyard and see the grapes just picked in the vats. We did join the wine club, but they were never pushy, just offered the club. Looking forward to our next visit!!

Made a deliberate detour here on the way to Pismo Beach on September 25th out of a strong nostalgia for Fess Parker, and a habitual desire to support family businesses. The beautiful grounds were encouraging, as were the “Fess-isms” posted on the outside wall. One of them was to “never miss a chance to meet and talk with new people.” So It was doubly disappointing to not only not be greeted, but be completely ignored by the staff lady at the counter, who seemed excessively focused on the only couple at the bar. When I tried to get her attention by looking at her and waving, she hid the side of her face with her hand. Deliberately ignoring the only other customer in the room was mystifying until she loudly announced to the couple that “we close at 5:00.” I looked at my watch and saw it was 4:45. So a potential customer is ignored to avoid the risk of staying longer than 15 minutes? I left disappointed and the winery lost my business. Seems a shame. I’m pretty sure it’s not what Fess would have wanted.

This is an excellent choice for a picnic lunch - the grounds are breathtaking and well manicured. The tasting room was very pretty and low key. We enjoyed the wines here as well. Excellent port.

A beautiful winery with a wonderful and engaging staff. Plus, who could not enjoy an afternoon looking at Daniel Boone memorabilia... and tasting the suburb wines. Joined the wine club too... reasonable price and includes tasting for life, not only there, but at a few other wineries as well, along with special events. Looking forward to heading back up there in another month or so. Fun times!

Still run by the family of Fess Parker. This was on the tour offered by Captain Jack's tours in Santa Barbara. Avery nice tour to a very nice winery. .Had to go to "Davy Crocket's" home. well at least the winery for a taste of the wines they make. A beautiful property and excellent wines. Enjoyed visiting the very modern tasting room and the wines sampled. Not everyone's palate likes these wines, One couple didn't like them, and no matter what he served, they didn't like it. They did get to sample one hell of a lot of wines!! What a good idea to get more samples! I was honest and liked what I was served. Clean modern restrooms and ample parking when we were there, bit i understand it can get a bit testy on a week end or on a busy day. You can join the wine club and come back with friends to sample all you want for free. $12.00 for non-members. I would go back in a heartbeat!

I immediately fell in love with this place! My husband and I were the first 2 to arrive so we were a little cautious. However the girl there was great and gave us a little one on one time. She was very informative and friendly. The building was very cozy and inviting. The grounds were breathtaking.I just really did not ever want to leave. The wine tasting was great and the glass actually has a coonskinned cap etched on it.Very appropriate I thought.

Water pans full of water outside the door for thirsty pets. Lovely grounds. Good selection of wines, good gifts and friendly personnel.

Had a great time tasting and having lunch under the big oak trees.. Great fireplace to enjoy on the colder days.

The 4 of us selected the new educational tour with a seated tasting in the newly refurbished VIP Barrel Room and it was outstanding. We started with their sparkling, and continued on to whites, then reds. We loved the wines so much, both couples joined the wine club. The dry riesling was also great. We cant wait to get our wines and we will visit again in the future.

The drive to the winery is beautiful. Winding roads, rolling hills, clear skies. When you enter the driveway of the winery, it is inviting and nicely landscaped. Once inside, the space is big and dark, like a cave, I suppose.
Staff is nice, but not enough of them for summer time. Also, I found staff to be a bit uneducated both in the wines and the benefits of the wine club. The wines are average, however their sister wineries make some excellent wines. Don't waste your time or money at his branch.

This was a nice place, beautiful grounds and the staff were very helpful. We liked the reds but didn't care for the white wines.

Handsome architecture & landscaping enhance a consistently good tasting experience at this friendly family enterprise, one of the oldest in the Valley. It’s a short scenic drive to reach its site near Los Olivos. Definitely put this on your list to try.

This was part of a winery tour from our cruise ship in Santa Barbara. They offer some very nice wines at reasonable prices. It is a small ‘boutique’ style place.

A beautiful winery and very nice landscaping and the wine tasting was very good. The people working at the winery were very friendly and made you feel right at home, the next time we are in the area we will be going back to try some nmore great wines.

We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon. Wine was enjoyable. Nice people. We joined the wine club. Nice wine country. Relaxing

The grounds at Fess Parker are enormous and fantastic if you have kids! You could literally bring lawn games and throw around a football on the giant fields! The wine is high quality and completely worthy of an afternoon here. While I tend to enjoy the wine at nearby Zaca Mesa and Andrew Murray a teeny sliver more... the grounds here just make for such a wonderful day that it's worth putting on your list. Fantastic if you have kids (your kids even found a frog on the grounds once!), parties, and date nights alike, I'd definitely give Fess Parker a try.

Had tastings at five wineries on the trip that included Fess Parker; Fess Parker was the only one where we were not impressed and didn't care for the wine and didn't buy any. It was OK, for sure, but relatively speaking compared to the area possibilities, this place struck me as more formulaic. Sure nice Fess Parker/Daniel Boone history, but other than the fact that the Parker family still is involved, didn't strike me as any plus. Just OK. I will add that these places are in part the sum of the experience of the person who pours your flight, so maybe it just wasn't a connection that also contributed to feeling it just wasn't special.

A beautiful drive to the Fess Parker Winery close to Santa Barbara. I particularly loved the 2013 Syrah that was offered for tasting by the charming wine host, Jack Sparrow. It was so good I brought a bottle all the way back to France! A wonderful setting and a great day out discovering beautiful countryside north of Los Angeles.

After a disappointing visit to Demetria Vineyard (maybe an off day); we drove down the road to the Fess Parker Vineyard and were greeted so warmly. Brent curated our tasting and did an amazing job of explaining each wine. The setting is so peaceful and beautiful. Highly recommend coming here if you are near!

Guess it's been too long since we were here. $14 for tasting of 6 wines and it's primarily whites. Folks were nice, but we remember wonderful reds and sweet wines. Too pricey for me, and to buy wine was really expensive, in my opinion. We didn't stay.

This winery was in a package like many others and I'm so glad we choose it to check it out.
The place is so nicely kept, there are roses all around, the big house with corridors, big trees with a lot of breeze, share and this relaxing environment. There are chairs/tables for picnics and if you bring your throw you can take a nap on the grass too. We brought a picnic and had a nice lunch while visiting.
We tasted almost everything they had, we liked most of them, and the giril that helped us was so friendly and easy going, we kept exchanging nice stories and overall had a great time while there.
We learned a little about new grapes and she definitely did her part to get us to like them more than any other place, and I think she might had just accomplished that. Great wine, excellent attention.

Drove out to Fess Parker from our Marriott hotel in Buelton after hearing what a nice place it was and it did not disappoint. Beautiful grounds and building. The wine tasting was very nice but I did notice that depending on who was your server the tasting pours were much different. We enjoyed all the wines in the tasting flight and the beautiful atmosphere of Fess Parker.

Well... Wine tasting costs 12$, the ladies managing the wine tasting are very nice but not wine experts at all, they even serve two different red wines in the same glass. I finally bought the best bottle - a pinot noir costing 56$ - which is not worth at all. California still far away from France in terms of wine culture.

There are some wonderful wineries in the Santa Ynez and Santa Rita Hills area, but we enjoy Fess more than any for an overall quality wine tasting experience. They offer as broad a range of delicious wines as you will find anywhere in the region with a staff that makes it even more enjoyable. They also offer a broad range of prices from great Chardonnays like Ashley's that cost a little more down to The Big Easy and Frontier Red that are perfect table wines.

I had stopped by this vineyard years ago and recently went again. Jack, a extremely friendly, knowledgeable and friendly server helped us enjoy our visit and over all was the best vineyard experience in the Foxen area. I can highly recommend a visit. Have fun! It is beautiful.

I found out about this "off the beaten path" vineyard from a LA Times article about pet friendly wineries. We made the drive to this beautiful winery and it was a real find, Our dog was thrilled to run in their large outdoor grassy area and was enthusiastically welcomed by the staff. The winery has both indoor and outdoor seating so on a lovely day sitting outside with a glass of wine is idyllic! They has a very large assortment of wines to sample (loved the Riesling and the port) and the pourers behind the counter were super friendly and helpful. Not as crowded as some of the other wineries I've visited, which is a plus.

Of all the wineries we've been to on Foxen Canyon this was by far the biggest we've been to so far. There is a huge picnic area with tables ,pets allowed and also a huge patio with comfortable couches and chairs. The tasting room and the entire building is massive as well. The tasting seemed a bit rushes and less casual than on most other wineries but probably because it was quite busy. Santa Rita Pinot was our favorite

This was our third (4th?) time stopping at Fess Parker enroute to LA or SD. Picture perfect. Like a little slice of Tuscany in the middle of Cali. The wines are great - the Rose' Pinot Noir being our favorite but this time it was out of season. Grab yourself a picnic at the Los Olivos grocery or sandwiches at Bob's well bread. Bring a blanket, so games for the kids and just veg out in the sun and drink in the wine and the beauty. So worth the detour!!

Fess Parker knew a thing or two about raccoon skin caps, and certainly knew how to make a good wine! I'm guessing that most of the younger set who frequents Fess Parker has no idea who he was, which is unfortunate. The grounds are stunning! The wines are fairly good too. I was surprised this time by an excellent Pinot Noir from the nearby Santa Rita Hills, and of course, charmed, as always by the estate Syrah! K Syrah, Syrah!!!! The keepsake glasses are my favorite for big reds! They used to be complimentary with a tasting, but now are available for minimal fee.

We got a flight of 5 wines each , a mix of white and red. Server was friendly and informative, and even pointed out the dump bucket (empty) so I could re-enact the scene from Sideways where Jack drinks it up. Beautiful grounds and very well laid out winery, with new patio furniture.

Words can't express how happy that I was to finally got here! It took me at least 8 years, two major cancellations but the third time was the charm! I've been a member of the Fess Parker Wine Club for many years and of course grew up with Davy Crockett and this was just something that has been on my bucket list. There were no disappointments - it was an awesome visit and I appreciated the extra touches given to me as a Wine Club Member. I had such a wonderful time in the Los Olivos area that I have already made plans to return in 2018. This time, we will stay in the Fess Parker cabins, the one which was Mr. Parker's personal office.

I went to the Fess Parker Winery with my buddy because we were both fans of his but we heard they have some good wine. Well, I have to say we had a blast. The server was a riot and we ended up buying some coonskin hats like Fess wore as Daniel Boone on TV. We enjoyed some very good wine. They had a few really nice Pinot Noir's as well as some nice whites. It was just a fun place for us with some pretty good wine.

At Fess Parker the Staff (one great family) ensures that they meet your needs: Whether your on a journey to learn more about the wines (they have or others in the area); just came to taste and have fun, and or enjoy a superb glass of wine on their manicure garden in a quite beautiful spot you'll find it.
Some of my and my husband's favorites are: '14 Older Barrel Pinot Noir (new fav.); Bien Nacido Pinot Noir, Ashley's Pinot Noir, and Ashley's Chardonnay.
Cheers,
The staff was very informative but not too chatty. They let you relax and enjoy the wine. You were able to buy a bottle , spread out a blanket and picnik on the grounds. BEAUTIFUL!!
