Interesting and moderately creepy

By xcgal3 |

A bit run down, we stumbled upon this place when returning from gem mining. We didn't realize until we got home that these are the largest Ten Commandments in the world. If you're in the area, do stop by, for the "I was there" factor more than anything else, but it was cool to see. We did not check out the other monuments, but if that's you're thing, you may find it inspirational.

Hidden Gem in the Smokies

Three of my family members and I were going to the Harrah's casino in Murphy, NC and checked to see what there was to see in the area. The number 1 attraction listed by Trip Advisor was the Fields of the Woods. We decided to check it out
And although it is listed as Murphy, it is further than we thought. However, the drive was absolutely worth it. You drive in, it is free to visit but they would like donations, and the first thing I saw were the 10 Commandments on the hillside to the right side of the parking lot. It was immense and hard to take in. Across the way are the Psalms. There is also a baptismal pool and a tomb with the stone rolled away from the entrance, like that of Jesus. You do feel a type of reverence while looking around. There are steps to go to the Psalms and one for the Commandments. My niece and I decided to climb the ones for the Commandments. My sister and mom drove to the top, so that is an option. Now I am not in the best of shape but I made it over half way when my sister convinced me to meet her at the bottom and drive up to it. At the top you can look down on the whole place and it is amazing. When we got back in the car we took the road towards the left to see what else there was. It leads you to the top of a peak where there are numerous flags of different countries. The flags are arranged in the shape of a cross. There is also a gift shop and place to eat. We were all really glad we decided to visit this spot. It was truly inspiring and I felt a sense of peace while there. It is definitely something I would recommend seeing if you are in the area!

Weekend Trip

Very interesting place to visit. It has been created to be a spiritual place. One will find the Ten Commandments written on a grassy hill. One can walk to the top of the hill. This was a very peaceful and quite.

Spiritual Trip

By anita059 |

We went to fields of the wood and have a good time. We climbed to the top of prayer mountain there is about 300 steps and if you enjoy climbing steps up can also climb even more steps to the top of the ten commandments. There is a little café to get some food and it was good, and also a gift shop. There is no cost to visit and you can stay as long as you want. We went on Friday and there wasn't very many people there, which we enjoyed.

Love the Ten Comandments on the side of the mountain n

Really not sure how to review this visit but it was an unexpected delight. I wish my wife and I were in better shape to do more exploring.

Stopped in since we were already in Murphy.. Had not planned on visiting but glad we did. Excellent history and beautiful grounds. It can be walked or driven.. Is free but donations welcomed. Very peaceful and serene.

What a nice day get away! Beautiful !! The area was slightly weathered but still such amazing views. The psalms wall, tomb, prayer mountain, Ten Commandments and Golgotha and such a quaint gift shop. It was such a labor of love. There’s restrooms and cold drinks to purchase. 💕🙏🙌

Peaceful

By Patty24Ray27 |

Beautiful place. Peaceful setting with a couple of hiking trails and areas to relax and reflect. It's a little out of the way form Murphy but worth the trip.

Beautiful & Inspiring !

By Luther S |

We had friends visit from out of state and took them here . They loved it , we have been here many times and thought they would enjoy it and they did . Being from the Northeast they were not used to seeing places like this . They took tons of pictures and enjoyed every moment . A great palace to go and be inspired .

An Inspirational and Educational Experience

By Robert J |

I've wanted to visit this place since I first heard about it in 1966. Now 50 years later I've had my chance and I was not disappointed. In fact, the experience exceeded my expectations. My visit was part of a day trip and unfortunately we arrived late in the afternoon after the gift shop/cafe was closed, but still there was much to see--more than we had time for.

There is much walking involved if you want to read all of the exhibits so I didn't have time to take in the full experience. We did have time to see some highlights and get a few photos. The mountain high depiction of the 10 Commandments is impressive. A road allows one to drive to the top of this mountain for a panoramic overview of the park. Our short visit was enough to make me want to return eventually which I do hope I can one day do. My wife heartily agreed and she wants to bring more of our family members.

The location is a bit remote so allow adequate time to get there. Also there is not much nearby in the way of eating establishments or lodging so if visiting you might want to make sure you've eaten or bring a picnic along. The area has plenty to offer so you have a lot of options for places to visit while including Fields of the Wood as a highlighted stop. Take note that this is a Bible based attraction so it might not appeal to everyone though the scenic wonder of the place is not bad for the eyes. Those who enjoy scripture will be blessed by visiting this attraction.

I look forward to returning to Fields of the Wood.

Small but nice

By ADashOfFun |

When you go... Make sure you go up the hill to the lookout. It's beautiful up there looking out! Gift shop has a ton of souvenirs to choose from. Very peaceful place.

Close to the Lord

By Benny C |

This place really made me think of the Bible. The crosses on the hill, the empty tomb, the Bible verses. It touched my heart in so many ways. Thankful for the church that keeps this place up. It will speak to many people that may not attend a church. Need to drive the property to view the Flags at the Cross, it is beautiful.

very peacefull

The fields of the wood was an amazing place to contimplate your life. Makes you wonder how someone came up with the layout

Amazing

By cathymG8471GV |

Wow, who knew. So,glad I visited here. The peacefulness and the walk brings one back to what is important in life. The food was great, along with the music on Sunday.

Nice park

By carmenolive |

Me and my husband went alone, it was in December their slow season, we had the park almost to ourselves, now that may not sound like a nice time to others but it was cool weather, quiet, peaceful and serene. We loved it, other people arrived afterward we were there early, the gift shop was nice and inexpensive. I would recommend for a peaceful environment. The park really need ALOT of work, but we looked past it and enjoyed ourselves. Some spots have beautiful views as well.

By Carolina Girl |

Full of God's beauty! A must see place for sure! Delicious food, awesome views, and a great gift shop!

Inspiring

By Tonya P |

This was a very great and interesting place to visit. We spent almost 3 hours looking around the different areas and displays. We found it very calming and inspiring. The only thing we found wrong with the day was the heat and humidity. Overall it is well worth a visit and no charge, only a donation if you wish.

A lot to take in

By Kimberly M |

I walked to the top of the 10 Commandments and wondered if 316 steps were significant, like John 3:16. I think I'd need several days to read all the scripture and theology here.

Sunday Trip

By Bebego |

This we saw by accident. It was very nice to see. All biblical. Grounds kept up nicely. We enjoyed seeing it. Free
You don't have to be religious!!

amazing

By Robert G |

never felt such an experience. I'm disabled, and wanted to go to the top of the 10 commandments, found out you can drive up by a road just to the right of them. parking there also

Feels akin to Mayan Ruins, but in a Biblical sense. :)

By Koolbaba |

This FREE attraction is deep in the mountains, surrounded by nature, windy breezes, mountain air, and serenity. All the sculptures are big and add a sense of majesty to all the Bible verses.

Some parts of the park are run down and need work, but it only adds to the charm. We loved the Witness Tree, the Prayer area and, of course, the Ten Commandments.

Quiet, Peaceful, Reflective

By KyGaLisa |

Very peaceful place for Christian reflection. A little outdated in some areas, but very interesting exhibits.

Wonderful Experienc

By Dave B |

This was a truly meaningful place to visit. There was a serenity and calmness that came from visiting here.

A Must see

By Erma B |

Breathtaking! It appears like an impossible undertaking. The experience was peaceful, spiritual, awe inspiring. At times, one is just speechless. The experience is definitely good for the soul.

A Must Stop

By ChristineBrown92 |

This is such a neat place. Yes, it is kind of falling apart, but you get the idea. Very quiet and peaceful. The people were so nice in the gift shop. Glad we stopped.

Awesome place! Very peaceful and inspiring!

By Linda K |

This place is amazing! Make sure you wear good walking shoes. Lots of steps and so worth it! Beautiful views at the top where the flags are!

Gorgeous!

By Carolina Girl |

Beautiful views, spiritual atmosphere, and absolutely unique! Lots of walking, but a beautiful place!

Very neat hidden treasure

By Selena H |

I had never heard of this place before, but found out that my husband had been there as a child. It is a lot of climbing, but a neat man made stop along the road. My husband, four children, and I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful...

By Justmaryk |

A very beautiful place. A place of reflection. A place of renewal.
Off the beaten path a bit, but never the less, worth the trip.

10 Commandments

By M A C |

Nice area for any church group the theme is on target and beautiful in that regard. However, the grounds need many repairs and updates. Marketing and development of attraction needs attention.

Moving experience and well worth the trip

By Mary S |

The gift shop was really nice and the lady that works there is very helpful. She shares a lot of information about the place. The place is more than what I thought it would be. Amazing and moving experience. Looks like it could use alittle repairs but not bad. Still well worth seeing. Hopefully I get will go back! Also you drive to the top of some things.

Very unusual. In need of maintenance

By Special12k |

We stopped here on our way up to the Hiawassee Dam. It is quite unusual and was nice to walk around and stretch have our legs. It is very old and in need of some updating but it had plenty of parking garage and felt very safe.

Wonderful.

By Megan P |

This was an amazing stop on our family vacation back in July 2014. We loved reading the scriptures. And it was great for stretching our legs! We definitely got our workout in!!

fields of the wood

By Kim R |

This is kind of neat to see- everything is built into the side of the mountain. Not the easiest to get around for people with disabilities but you can drive a lot of it.It's a fairly steep hike up to the top (it is all stairs).

A bit strange

By Jay E |

We visited on a Saturday around 2pm. It was confusing if we were welcome or not. No one was around. Lack of maintenance was pretty evident.

Enjoyable and scenic

By Robert A |

Beautiful setting. The faithful will appreciate it the most. Ragged on the edges, but impressive nonetheless. Messaging focused on Church of God.

Interesting

By Missyanne |

Neat place to visit if you’re in the area. A lot of steps to climb if you go to the top
There was a small gift shop and looked like a grill but it ( grill) was closed when we were there

Bizzarre!

By Mary V |

I rate this a '5' because of its 'Holy (!) Crap' factor.
So dang unexpected in the Smoky Mountain foothills, and it's SOOO very strange!
OK - I get that it all about religion - 10 commandents, etc. - but I've never seen anything like it.

Once-beautiful place now fallen into disrepair

By Chris D |

I’ve visited this park every year for 8 years now. Sadly, new owners have left this once majestic site literally crumbling - the entry pillars are missing chunks of cement. The stairway up the Commandments Hill is also crumbling in places and signs and letters need painting. Flags need replacing. A place that honors God deserves better care.

Family visit

By Cruiser786683 |

Went here as a kid and loved it. Came back again with a friend and enjoy the view and all the sites. You can really get a great feel of the views if you climb the steps between the commandments on the side of the mountain.

enjoy

By Thom M |

this is a religious themed outdoor park enjoy the walking . Good place to renew yourself good place to be with like minded people . the bad sadly it needs maintenance in some places badly watch your step in several places repairs are needed . still worth the walking around

this is great

By ken f |

it will blow your mind everything is big wow the location is beautiful from way up on the hill come check it out it wont let you down

Beautiful and Peaceful!

By Stephen S |

It's a drive to get there, and it's a hike once you are there, but the experience is well worth it. It was a beautiful Carolina blue sky day when we were there, which added to the awesome beauty of the place. It definitely needs some upkeep, but the original intention of the facility is clear. Time well spent.

Quick Visit

By cmriggle |

This was cool to see in person and lots to do! We stopped in our way back from tubing! We walked the steps but there is a way to drive to the top - bathrooms were clean too!

One of a kind experience

By spike9090 |

We stopped here while vacationing in the area and it is quite a site. There are more steps that I cared to count to get to the top but you certainly don't have to go all the wall up to view the 10 Commandments. The other site of the parking lot has a huge dedication to Psalms. This is certainly an interesting place and you will gets lots of exercise climbing the stops.

Bible based attrsction

By Tmcrane |

This is a nice place for Christians to visit to remind us of our faith. All scripture is King James and has a 'repent or perish' message. The attraction was created by the Church of God in the 1940's and has their church doctrine and dogma scattered throughout.

Prepare to walk up and down many steps! Also The gift shop and cafe were both worth a visit.

Although my Christian faith doesnt follow exactly withthe Church of God- I praise God for the freedom in our country to have places like this that remind us of His word and plans😊

Thoughtful and inspirational

By fionad1382018 |

This was the first time my family had been there. It was beautiful. Serene, thought provoking, making us wish to improve ourselves, the list goes on. The dedication that has gone into what you see there is Incredible.

Ten Commandments

By carol H |

When you first enter Fields of the Wood you will notice a huge Ten Commandments on the side of the hill/mountains.

Stop and enjoy the peace.

By Walter |

An interesting place to stop along your way if you're traveling near here. The views are excellent and the place well maintained.

Great

By Venus C |

We went on a holiday week, so the gift shop, restraint and stuff was not open, but we still got to walk around and look and everything.

I had my little dog, so we did not walk through the 10 commandments, but my bf did, it was quite a hike for him....def. need to be in some kind of shape..haha

Family tradition to visit here each year

By Sheryl L |

Each May my family goes to Murphy for the Stiles Reunion at Friendship Baptist Church on Highway 294. Fields of the Wood is just down the road so we always swing by here and Hiwassee Dam and take a tour and have been doing so for many years. Amazing place.

Fun place for exercise

By killiritax |

This is a unique place to climb step and read bible scriptures. It is need of repair however but still a different experience. Make sure you drive up the hill to see all the flags. There’s also hiking trails.

Awesome

By Nancy C |

At Fields of wood, you can drive to top of ten commandment mountain and on around and see the largest cross you ever have. It is laying down with flags around the edge of it, that have countries helping support this park. You can walk up or down commandment Mt. There Mt. Calvary, the empty tomb, also there is prayer mt. you can go up and has monuments explaining everything from each state. At the top is an alter for praying. The day we were there, a was baptismal service was in progress. It's a blessing to go visit this Park.

Interesting visit

By Vonnie J |

Interesting site. Needs some renovation work, which we noticed was in progress. Some of the sites require walking inclines which make it hard for older folks or those with breathing problems. But, there is a road that can be driven to view from the top.

Great

By Kenny P |

Well worth the ride. My wife and I were actually being taken to see a lot to buy, and our great real estate agent Joey Reid took the time to show us around. This place is amazing. What a great place to shut out the world for a little while and tune in to God. The short time we were there was very peaceful and we are looking forward to spending much more time there.

Our stop at fields of woods was inspiring We climbed to the top where flags of all nations fly. It had to be quite a job placing the lettering on that hill

Excellent

By Chandra F |

The restaurant was very good and clean You felt the spirit of the lord 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Generous employees!!

Unique site

By Cynthia T |

Enjoyed the idea of the religious monuments but is in need of repairs and upkeep. Spent about an hour, didn't climb any of the steps but rode to the top of each. Interesting read as you tour the grounds.

Fields of the Wood

By Mark Schmetzer |

Great place to bring the family. Awesome place that was not overly crowded the day we went. Take your time and reflect and give thanks to the Lord.

If you build it someone will come

By travelgal5050 |

This place dates back to around 1944. Someone had a passion for his Christian faith, and I can appreciate the fervor-- but would not recommend it to many folks now. A ways out of town ( scenic drive). It is pretty kitchy and run down. The various replicas are pretty bad - and almost sad.aybe it would work for some, but not me.

Fields of the Wood! Religious Site

By Debbie L |

I went to the Fields of the Wood because my mom had gone as a child. We were on vacation in Tennessee and went over to this site. I thought it was a very unique place and enjoyed everything about this. My favorite part was walking up the steps and having the Ten Commandments on either side of me. Also, a favorite memory was standing on top of the giant Bible.

Hidden gem in the mountains

By julie F |

Have been to Fields of the Wood a few times in the last year. Nice place to reflect. Perfect for visitors to the area.

Found this by chance

By 468MarkB468 |

this is a great place to take a break and see an amazing site form the 1940's. It is very informative and peaceful. Take your time and enjoy the views.

Excellent place to visit

By ladodd7 |

This is a great place to visit if you have the chance. Admission is free although it operates on donations. It is a great family trip.

Devastating condition of a once beautiful inspiration place

By Vacationer561055 |

As a previous visitor I had bragged to my church family about this once beautiful, inspiring Bible park & encouraged them to take a trip to visit.
I had NEVER been so heartbroken & sad to see the condition of the place.
It looks so neglected & unkept
Very unlike I'd ever seen it.
The paint on everything was worn & flaking off, broken flower pots, the grass needed mowing terribly, the church & all the many flags were gone, no gospel music playing over the speakers anymore & the once HOLY appearance & feel was gone.
This park is there to bring glory to Christ &; represent His Word.
I was embarrassed for my church family to see it after I had told them what a beautiful Holy Spirit filled place it was.
It looked TERRIBLE.
IT WAS HEARTBREAKING & SO NOT WORTH OUR TRIP FROM SOUTH CAROLINA.
What happened?
There was now a house or double wide looking building there right in the midst of the scenery & that beautiful church that was there before was gone!
I don't know what has caused such devastation to it, but it certainly doesn't inspire anymore with all the neglect of such a once "holy place!"
The only thing that was worth seeing now was 10 Commandments Mountain & it wasn't as cared for as it used to be.
The Psalm tablets etc were missing letters & desperately needed painting. Everything did.
I won't be taking anyone else back there because I know they thought I had exaggerated how beautiful it was.
It's a disgrace to let a place that is supposed to represent Christ look so pathetic compared to the way it used to be.
Very disappointing & sad.

Amazing Park

By Loretta M |

It was well worth our trip to go see this Park. It was amazing to see the 10 commandments written in the side of the mountain. To walk up steps that go up the side of the mountain and see verses from the bible. You can ride up a small road and see a scenery that will take your breath away! No charge but you can make a donation. We also had lunch while we where there which was very good.

Really Enjoyed It

By WildHaireAdventures |

We stopped by the Fields of the Wood and really enjoyed it. The displays were so wonderfully done and so impressive. Unfortunately, a lot of the displays could use some touch ups, but they are still impressive. They have restrooms and a nice gift shop as well. It’s definitely worth a stop if your in the area.

fields of the woods

By 71kathrynh |

Most unique place I have ever seen. Truely a religious experience. Take the time to stop and stroll around the grounds. Beautifully kept.

Great place to enjoy the great out of doors

By Destination_Vacay |

I'm not "religious" so to speak, but I found this area to be beautiful and calming. There's hiking trails around the property, you can drive to the top of the Ten Commandments hillside display or walk up, and the same for the state plaque / stone prayer display.

This is a beautiful place to picnic at the top of the hillside of the Ten Commandments.

There's a ring of flags with flags from countries around the world, and the scenery is peaceful, clean, unique & very pretty. I come every time we venture this way, it's a great place to see at least once!

Great visit to park. The 320+ stars to the top of the 10 Commandments was quite a workout!

By Byron C |

A must see attraction if you are in the area. Walking through this park is like walking through the Bible. Excellent views of the park from the top of the 320+ stairs overlooking the park. You will enjoy!

Fields of Wood

By dttravelinman |

Very spirtitual, beautiful place to visit, totally enjoyed! 303 steps to the top so we drove up and saw a gorgeous view.

Family visit with teenage son & grandfather

By wanderers |

This place is just magnificent! Pictures really don’t do the Ten Commandments mountain justice. I was in awe, the cross made up of national flags was probably the highest point and to me, the most awesome. I could definitely spend hours, days hiking the property in all it’s God inspired beauty. The folks on high shop and cafe were kind and courteous. The gift shop is well stocked with LOTS of beautiful, fun and interesting things. Great gifts for all occasions. 🛍. I’d highly recommend seeing this wonder of the USA at least once.

Spiritual

By Adventurer784775 |

I was skeptical about this place but it really moved me. If you’re a Christian you should check this place out. Very reverent. The kids were moved as well.

Beautiful

By 863Queen |

While vacationing, we made the drive to Fields in the wood. Simply beautiful. There is a calm that resides there that is comforting. The idea of this park is amazing. The living word in larger than life stone was inspiring. We enjoyed the scenery and picturesque views. The gift shop was pricey but the experience was priceless.

Fields of the Woods near murphy, NC

By A W |

I live about 30 miles from this attraction. Before his death, I loved to take my 90 year old father there to eat a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon where there are fantastic views, and lots to see and read about the history of the place. It provides a wonderful spiritual experience for those seeking solace and a great visual adventure for those who just love unique places. You can take the tour on your own time as you drive from each venue. I still go there when I want a restful, peaceful time alone.

Vacation

By MARIE H |

My family and myself loved Fields of the Wood. It is beautiful there and we loved everything there. Going up all the steps is not as bad as I thought it would be

Interesting place

By Travelgirlslife |

We enjoyed our time at Fields of the Wood. The views and the different settings there were very interesting.

Beautiful

By Kelly L |

The huge biblical "theme park" (as described by a restaurant owner up the road) was extraordinary in bringing to life scenes of the bible.

Very inspiring!

By cstiles74 |

This is a place you have to see with your own eyes! It's beauty is awesome! Plenty of walking if you desire - or a nice road if you can't. No admittance fee, but a nice café and gift shop. Beautiful place to take pictures! Come and bring the family for a day of fun!

Outside of Murphy, NC

By Nicole N |

This attraction is located a little ways outside of Murphy, NC. It is mostly an outdoor attraction, so weather is going to make a big impact on your visit here. There is a small restaurant and gift shop with bathrooms. There is ample parking. Many of the attractions are up a significant number of stairs, people with mobility issues will not have an easy time here.

Biblical Experience

By Cheryl M |

This place is pretty cool. There is a huge replica of the 10 Commandments on a hill that you can either climb the steps to see or drive around behind it to see it from above. There is an empty tomb, and many more Biblical things to experience. There is a gift shop, too.

Fields of the Wood

By wandah903 |

I have been here twice. It has been 20 years ago. I was so impressed! It is a beautiful site to see. I hope to go back some day soon.

Great

By Michael J |

You will want to be in good shape to walk up the steps. You can also drive to the top and around the area. Flags were a great also

Beautiful and Serene

By henrye681 |

A great sight to see. Biblical tableau set in a pastoral setting. God’s people will feel refreshed and renewed by visiting here. This is a place to enjoy biblical sights and sounds. It is the home of the worlds largest 10 commandments placed in stone on the side of a mountain. Beautiful recreation of several other sites from the holy land. Nice gift shop and small cafe.

Head Shanking Bad

By Robin R |

I have visited Field of the Woods at least three times, the first with my parents in the mid-80's when I lived about 40 miles away and twice since because I was in the area visiting family and I had people with me I think everyone should see this horrible "religious" place at least once. To call "Field of the Woods" bad gives the word bad a bad name. To call it an amusement park makes it sound like there is something fun and enjoyable about going - believe me, there is not. Each time I have been there, it has taken all my reserve to keep from laughing at the tacky nature of ever aspect. As a lifelong Christian, I find this place sad, depressing and embarrassing. How anyone could find the run-down Field of the Woods anything but horrible, is beyond me. In general the entire place is in terrible repair and just awful. To walk around and see concrete "tablets" of bible scripture paid for by, I guess, the churches of this denomination as located in different states is sad, sad, sad. It is a poor man's edifice to their denomination and provides no, nil, naught, nothing, nix, null, aught, goose-egg, zero, zilch, and nada sense of serenity, contemplation, or spirituality. The only redeeming feature is it is surrounded by the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains. Please go once but be prepared to stifle your laughter. The people who created this place are serious about it - sad and bad.

peaceful

By dogdavid |

Is a very nice place to view the different scriptures of bible. A lot of large grounds displays.
Has a nice Christian souvenir shop at reasonable prices.

Great place for meditation

By Frank R |

Even those who are not spiritual minded will be blown away by the sheer enormity of Fields of the Wood. Plenty of walking. The hike up the Tryn Commandments is breath taking in more ways than one. The view from a plane is fantastic. Be sure to drive up to the top of the Commandments and on to see flags from all over the world arranged in the shape of a cross. You will be disappointed if you fail to drive the very few extra miles to visit this park.

Beautiful

By Melanie pardue |

Went here for my first time with my work last weekend. It is beautiful but can be dangerous because of the wear and tear, BUT, it is worth it and worth every step up to the top. I especially love the representation of all the flags as an example of unity. At least, that’s my view on it!!! A great place for business but I plan on bringing my family here in the near future. Absolutely gorgeous!!

lovely

By Robin M |

This is awesome place to visit and view. especially from the top of both sides. it has nice little snack bar and gift shop. this is a quick must stop. If you decide to walk up instead of drive MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF BREATH there's a lot of steps going up on both sides. By the way it's free.

Beautiful place to visit.

By ruthann1245 |

I love going here, but can no longer walk the steps but took a lot of pictures.Drove around to the top,so pretty to look down on it...

Youth group stop

By jasonc128 |

We stay at a local camp and swing in for our kids to experience the Fields of the Woods. It's a 1940's Bible theme park that is quirky and shows it's age. But it's a great taste of the local culture, it's free, and is amazing to see the design and displays.

Moving Experience

By bill k |

well worth seeking out this place and speading an hour or two.
some of the displays border on awesome.
and don't worry if the steps look too much, there's lookouts above
that you can drive to on both sides.

Wow!

Thank you for sharing the gospel with the world. I'd love to fly over and see the flags and cross. What a cool place to visit while staying at Wagonmaster Ranch.

Great Idea

By Chellee T |

We loved the idea of this park. It was a rainy day when we went but we were tired of being cooped up in the cabin while visiting from FL so we had to get out. We enjoyed the hike up both of the hills and it was good to let the kids get some energy our. My husband counted about 630 steps (one way). You can also drive up to either peak if you prefer.
The airplane was cool, my son really enjoyed that, and the sights from the top were nice.
The park could use quite a bit of maintenance. Lots of it is worn some parts falling apart. Even a new coat of paint could do it wonders. Still the basis of the park is great and we are always happy to visit places that remind us of God's love and His Word.
Definitely worth a one time stop.

Great family place. Take the day and enjoy all. Plan a picnic for the day. You will never see the 10 commandment on the side of a mountain like you will experience there. You can walk the steps and enjoy nature at its best.

Combining the beauty of nature with the joy of our Lord

By ElBar11 |

As we went in winter, the views are just spectacular from the tops of the mountains, since the foliage is gone. You can see the smokies for miles. If you are in to history you can spend a few hours reading the bible quotes and how the Fields came to be. Just a nice "mindful" place to be.

Wonderful place to visit

By Laurie B |

Church of God had designed a meaningful experience in the mountains of Murphy, NC. It was a hit day so didn't take a lot of time wandering, but it is a lovely garden.

Inspiring visit

By hartsellj |

A beautiful place to collect your thoughts. A very well kept place where you can view at your own leisure. Impressive to say the least.

great for families

By Marilyn L |

We have been here 4 or 5 times and now we have 6 grandkids from the ages of 10 to 11 months and are planning a trip for our grand kids to enjoy..good friendly place to visit and enjoy Gods word..

Could be so much more

By Arleene W |

Not really much here to talk about. Ample parking, because no one was there. Nice gift shop. Impressive 10 Commandments, but the other sites were just a little sad, and the place could have been cleaner, given the lack of visitors

Christian attraction

By Elizabeth B |

This place has a lot of Christian things to do, it is free but they have donation boxes through out the park. Lots of steps so make sure to wear tennis shoes.. It also has a old church you can look at. Make sure to get one of the flyers for 3.00 dollars has a lot information in it. Kids can also feed the fish too.

You’ll Find It....

By Rome M |

After having a trip to the beach canceled, my wife and I had to find another spot for a getaway. We decided to go to the mountains of North Carolina. We went to Fields of the Wood. My wife had never been there. I was there about 30 years ago.
It was a wonderful experience. Ten Commandments Mountain was awe inspiring. We climbed the steps, it was a chore, but well worth the effort. The view the mountain provided a great view of much of the park.
Golgotha, the replica of the Garden Tomb, the All-Nations Cross, and Prayer Mountain remind us of what Christ has done for all mankind.
If you need a place of contemplation and an escape from the busyness of life, you’ll find it in Fields of the Wood.

Nice but out of the way

By Runie57 |

I thought it was in Murphy but it is not. It is another 21 miles west of Murphy, almost on the Tennessee line. I don't think we would have gone there if I had realized that earlier. It is a nice concept, but it is run down. You don't just stop by because you see it on the side of the road. It is a curvy mountain road to get there. I am glad I went once, but I don't need to go back.

Great Place to Visit

By Janet W |

We enjoyed our visit very much. We did walk the 350 steps up the side of the mountain with the 10 commandments spelled out on either side of us. There is a pretty view at the top. if you are not able to climb the steps you can drive to the top and park. I was very impressed with the other parts of this place. Jesus' tomb, the crosses, and the place of prayer. It is only about 10 miles north of Murphy and easy to get to right off the highway.

PEACEFUL OUTING

By jplemmons1 |

I was invited by the local CMA / Christian Motorcycle Association group of Waynesville NC to join them on a Ride for the Son. We rode to this location to be awed by the pure hard work to create something with so much spiritual meaning. To enter the grounds thru the archway and proceed up the slope to the parking area while taking in the surrounding beauty of the grounds. The calm and serenity witnessed during our stay was most enjoyable. I must compliment the staff of the snack bar that they too were very pleasant with our encounters. And to note they make an awesome hot dog with slaw at a very reasonable price. If one needs a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life a drive in to the country setting and to step back in to a quiet zone this is the day trip for you.

QUITE IMPRESSIVE

By Albert V |

The grounds are maintained by the Church of God. There is no admission fee, this is bible and scripture intensive but very impressive in its design and layout. Largest 10 commandments I will ever see!

Amazing experience for every Judaeo/Christian believer. Don't miss it.

By northwoodspatriot |

In the most beautiful mountainous area of North Carolina. One mountain side is dedicated to the Ten Commandments as they are listed in full text. Lovely place to go with the entire family. Such a joy and such lovely tribute to the God of all.

Beautiful Visit

By Aubrey |

High on a mountain, private and surreal. Walk among the flags. Great place to visit. Would come back again.

Figured we would check it out

By JnTLibby |

We saw this as an attraction near Murphy and figured we would visit. Being the season of lent, I was able to talk my husband into going.

We are not very religious people (we don't attend church on a regular) however, we really did like this park. There was much to see and read. The stairs are steep and give a good work out. The views are amazing.

I honestly learned a few things and it was great to expose the children to something a little different.

If you are an avid church goer, Prayer Mountain has many different scriptures which are affiliated with every state.

We would recommend for everyone to take the time and visit. The gift shop had many wonderful gifts to purchase and the staff was very friendly.

Great experience in biblical nature exibit

By NancyJane |

There is lot to see and plenty of wide open spaces in nature to enjoy the abundant foliage and beautiful vistas . There are options to drive to the top or climb lots of stairs. A good amount of time was spent reading the huge amount of biblical text displayed around the park. We enjoyed the gift shop and the food was really good at the cafe. It was a pretty well maintained park except for some rusty banisters and crumbly cement areas but you could see that they were working in some areas. My son , who is 15 , had just finished reading his teen Bible in his last school year was enthralled to see this much religious references all in one place. There are plenty of picnic benches and places to sit peacefully all around the property.

Very interesting on a Spiritual Level

Nice place to take the entire family. Peaceful and serene, pack a lunch and stay a few hours on the beautiful grounds.

Larger than expected

Great place to visit. Quiet place to reflect on God and your walk with him. Lots of steps, make sure you wear good shoes.
No fee but donations are accepted.

They have a neat little gift shop with a food counter too.

Yearly trip to Fields of the Woods

Great day for a day trip! We go every year.

The cafe has great food at very reasonable prices.

Gift shop is clean and neat.

Wonderful, faith-filled trip.

Beautiful!

By NorthStar495132 |

This place is where you want to go for peace, serenity and spiritual reflection. It is an area dedicated to people who love God and the people who started their church in Murphy around the early 1900s. It is not in the best shape, needs some paint and pressure wash, its soley supported by the local church and donations but it's still worth a visit.

Amazing

By Maria M |

Gift shop had a lot of choices and interesting items.

Hamburgers were yummy.

Largest 10 Commandments.

Sunday afternoon picnic

By Genese55 |

We hadn’t been to Fields of the Woods in a lot of years. It was still the same as I remembered it many years ago. The many steps up the mountain where the Ten Commandments are and the flags of all the nations!
It’s truly amazing to visit the symbol of the empty tomb..
And when we looked around they have a restaurant that serves sandwiches and a really nice gift shop!
It is definitely a place if your in the area you need to visit!

a serene setting in mid-March.

By DelGer b |

peaceful and quite place. walk up the steps to the top of the hill. walk along the psalms stones across the parking lot. sit by the lake and watch the fish and listen to the water fountain. make a contribution for the upkeep. shop at the store. did not find any restaurants open during mid-March visit.

Interesting Landmark

By Erin G |

I found this place through Trip Advisor and decided to bring the family while we stayed for a long weekend in Murphy. Fields of the Wood was definitely worth seeing, It's larger than life and the kids loved climbing to the top, even though it was exhausting. We have never seen anything like it before, and probably never will!

Moving Experience

By WallandTNgal |

Having visited here as a child with my parents, I have been wanting to take my husband for a visit. Finally made it and was a little disappointed. The message is still there and it is very awe inspiring to see the Ten Commandments on the side of the mountain. A little upkeep is much needed on many of the monuments if this special place is to be here for future generations.

Heart Touching

By prochellej |

We took the bus to the site, then the Bahamas Brass Band marched into the crowded site and gave a concert. On the right side going up the mountain The ten Commandments is arranged in concrete.. On the top of that peak about a mile down is the All nation flag monument. I has flag of all nations. On the opposite mountain range the Church of God of Prophecy has Bible teachings going up to what they call prayer mountain where a long alter is erected. Halfway up that mountain on the right side there is a witness tree. The sign told us that a church flag was on that tree when lightening struck that tree it burned the tree but skipped the flag.

Weird, Interesting

By Stephanie R |

This is an interesting and one-of-a-kind type of place. That being said, I am not sure it is super enjoyable. It's just interesting. There is a lot of dedication to the 10 Commandments and other Scripture. As a Christian, I believe in these things...but wasn't too sure what to make of the reason behind this type of structure. A neat way to kill time, but I wouldn't say it is the #1 thing to do in Murphy, by far.

Beautiful place!

By Maria H |

If you are in Murphy, NC or the surrounding area, this is a must! It is a large bible park with the 10 commandments on a hillside.

Interesting

By robertaS299PA |

It is an interesting place. I found it to be large, but some areas were not well kept. It just wasn't really my type of place to visit, but it was impressive in size.

A Piece Of Heaven

By Penny O |

My husband and I visited here after recommendations from a local. I completely fell in live, felt closer to God and so needed that journey. My only brother had just passed the week prior from stage 4 lung cancer. It was such a calming Blessing for me. And now..4 1/2 months later... we have decided to move to Murphy. I plan on volunteering at Fields if the Wood. It just brings me such peace and joy. You really feel something special here. Don’t miss it.

Moving and Worth the time spent there

By Cari G |

Before traveling to Murphy NC, I looked into landmarks and things that were a must-see. Fields of the Wood was on the list, and I am really amazed at the emotions I felt while being there. The hill with the 10 commandments was a sight, but even more moving was the replica tomb from Jesus' resurrection. While you are there, look for the Witness Tree. The story behind it made the whole visit all the more amazing.

Take into consideration that this landmark has been around for quite some time and some of the sites are showing some wear. This should not detract from the overall meaning behind each display and maybe that will help you decide how much to donate to help them rehab the park.

I will return to this attraction with mother family members, and cannot wait to see their reactions. Enjoy!!

Great Spiritual experience in a beautiful setting

By kblakley2021 |

This is a truly unique and spiritually uplifting park. It was developed in the 1940's and I was raised in North Carolina and had never heard about ir until someone told me about it within the past year. I am VERY glad I planned this trip and visited it. Well worth the trip. Wish I could get all of my family and friends to visit this park.

Wonderful place to visit. We noticed the day we went that it was mostlh senior citizens and they were not able to access everything because of the steps. You are a le to get to the top of 10 commandments by car.

unforgettable experience

By Emely V |

This is a really cool place to go. I still cannot believe that everything is FREE. I love how it has a lot of details. It is tiring to walk to all the places, but it is definitely so worth it. It is amazing to think that everything is based on the Bible. it is so AWESOME.

Field in the woods

By arlaisabelle |

wonderful tribute to our Christian heritage. It is a must see if you have never visited it. It is located on Hwy 294 just on the outskirts of Murphy so it is close by.

What a great place!

By Ncgrama |

I have lived in western North Carolina all my life but just found this gem. What a great place! Almost fully accessible by vehicle but you can also do a lot of walking if you choose to get up close and personal. Well worth the drive as it is donation funded, and please do so, because I am sure it takes a lot to maintain this property.

Amazing and wonderful

By Gary W |

Stopped by to see this in celebration of Holy Week. LOVED it!! Very inspirational and beautiful setting. Ten commandments and all the other exhibits of the tomb, Golgotha, Flags of the Nations, etc, were fantastic. Go see this, you won't be disappointed.

By Laurie M |

This will always be my favorite place in Murphy, NC. If you want to find a little spiritual peace on Earth, this is your place.

A GREAT Biblical place to visit - and it's FREE - Altho they do accept donations.

By jwalker12003 |

This was the second time my wife and I visited Fields of the Wood. If you enjoy visiting Biblical places, you'll love here. There is a lot of walking, altho you can drive up the both sides of the mountain also. But you will miss out, especially on the side that has the stone monuments containing Scripture verses on both sides of the walk up the mountain. Once at the top, there is an area set aside for private prayer time. The other side of the mountain has the Ten Commandments in stone. Big enough lettering most folks will be able to read the writing from the bottom. One side has a Baptismal pool that is open to use, with prior arrangement. There also is an area that has a depiction of Golgotha, the place of the skull. Also, there is a stone depiction of a burial tomb, with the stone rolled away. And there is an area that has a stone semi-circle area with some of the Psalms cut into it. There is also an onsite restaurant and a gift shop. Food good and reasonably priced. - Also, there is a clean bathroom on site. (women and men's)

Better Than Expected!

By Tommy N |

Very Nice, Gift shop and really reasonable priced food. Lots of things to look at and very well put together. We spent about an hour just walking around and enjoying the sites. The walk up the hill was a lot of work but was worth it. If you have time stop by and I think you will enjoy it.

Nice site to see

By Wendy L |

This was something nice to see especially if you are from a Christian background. Wear your walking shoes, especially if you plan to take the stairs to the top. Free entrance but donations are accepted. Gift shop and café.

Nice Drive

By linsteve70 |

Too many stairs but beautiful and peaceful.I am sure it is busy in the summer, was a nice drive, out to the park and you can take your pets.

Incredible

By Melissa P |

During our visit my Husband and I decided to check this attraction out and I am so glad we did. This was the neatest thing I have seen in a long time and the best part was all the states dedicated either plaques or stones to this attraction. The stairs are very steep and small but if you can't do all.these steps you can walk up the gravel path. My husband and I did the steps with breaks in between but we decided to take the path down. The views were so beautiful from the top of the ten commandments. We did both the Psalms and Ten Commandments and so very glad we did. I could go on and on but don't want to spoil the experience for others. I would highly recommend this and I hope to bring my Daughter there so she can experience it. Loved this attraction!!!

Fields of the Wood nice visit !

By retprobowler2001 |

enjoyed our visit. Took about 2 hours to see and read most everything. a lot of scriptures, history of the reformation movement, 10 commandments on a huge hillside.

Church group

By tnstormchaser |

This is a wonderful place to relax. The mountains were beautiful. Everything is easy to access. One area has a a lot of steps but you can see the area. I took my small group from church and they loved it. We had a picnic lunch. It gives a beautiful message of God's love. Pay attention to the details.

Great place for Christian fun and family time!

By Dennis F |

Must be able to climb lots of stairs to get the full view of everything. Not sure if there was a drive way available for those that could not walk up the stairs? Seems that I do remember seeing a car up top? Great place to visit and have a picnic, and enjoy a gift shop and the Bible verses planted on the hill side. The neat thing was also the tomb. Great time and a fun place. Would not go in the heat of the day or in hottest part of summer because it is total sunshine beaming down upon you.

An experience I loved about Murphy

By sylcarlisle |

Before I moved to Murphy in 1998, I always made a special trip to Fields of the Woods. When you pray from the top of Prayer Mountain you feel not only closer to God but as though only you and God exist. I have since moved from the mountains but miss it.

Oustanding Place - Must See

By Stan Miller |

This place is a must see.
It was a bit farther from the city of Murphy than planned, but well worth it. The lady in the gift shop was very interesting to talk to, plus helpful in selecting T-Shirts for my sisters. Be sure to drive up on both sides of the mountain, overlooking the park. Extremely beautiful.
Signs warn of wild animals. I saw either a coyote or a fox. My GPS took me to the wrong location.
You may want to carry an old fashion state map.
Located on Hwy 294. (Highly Recommend this place)

After your visit here (also has a nice cafe),
Recommend visiting the Hiawassee Dam, which is only a few miles from the park.

A Refuge from the Storms

By Roland D |

As we evacuated Beaufort, SC before Hurricane Irma struck, we ended up in Copperhill, Tennessee for 4 days. While in a cabin in the woods, we visited Fields of the Wood, a Biblical Theme Park, in Murphy, NC. For a very good Christian experience allowing for much contemplation, reflection, and prayer...this is definitely a refuge in the storm. It is free (but accepts contributions)...and has a nice gift shop...and a great little café (with super good Reuben sandwiches).

WOW! What a unique experience for any Christian!

By L Michael S |

Renew and Boost your Faith with a visit to this unique place!

The history and vision inspires every visitor to ponder your place in the world. Walk along paths and marvel at the construction and planning that it took to create this "one-of-one" field!

Short drive from Murphy, NC or Turtletown, TN is well worth it to spend a few hours in a place where you are sure to leave with more faith than you came with!!!

Impressive

By L K |

I ran across this site while researching TripAdvisor for things to do in western NC. We went despite the pouring rain. It was impressive, especially the huge Ten Commandments on the side of a hill. We were able to drive around the property which was especially good considering the weather.

Church Oriented Park

By Betty W |

This is a very nice free attractive based on the Bible. I went when I was a child and its just as beautiful and peaceful now as it was then. 10 Commandments crafted into mountain. Cross of All Nations with flags from all nations. Worth a trip to see.

WOW

By gddolz |

Shows that the LORDS word is very important. We traveled all around Murphy to see the beautiful area and Lake Hiawassee. Will return to bring boat and enjoy the water and camping.

This place was awesome

By lstr0h |

Stopped by this place on our way to our cabin. It was awesome, I think it's really great some of the history and dedication by each state in the US. Of course I loved all the religious stuff, commandments, even had a pool to do baptisms. The bushes were carved "jesus died for our sins." It's def worth stopping at.

Weekend Retreat

By Lavada B |

This is a place I would like to have taken my grandkids. I enjoyed my visit & would recommend it. Great chance to get some exercise walking up the 300 steps to top of Ten Commandments.. Very nice gift shop.

Inspiring

By Bill j |

It’s easy to see that this place was once magnificent. Unfortunately it’s crumbling. It’s still an inspiring place to be. If you are in the area it is definitely worth finding it. You can drive to the top, but walk the steps if you can.

Inspiring stop

By Don |

I stop here often when passing through the area. It is beautiful faith based park with hiking trails, monuments and biblical information. Built in the 30's and 40's, it is a refreshing place to recharge ones faith.

REALLY?

By Jamanda1 |

I am not even trying to wonder WHY this is recognized as ANYTHING worth seeing. Just something that somebody claiming to be somewhat "religious" put up and thought it would be ?????? I don't even know. HUGE WASTE OF TIME.

Unique Biblical Place with History

By Ginger C |

I had visited this place a couple of times as a little girl. I remember walking up all those steps on Ten Commandment Mt. This year we took our kids, and it is A LOT of steps! This would be a great place for a picnic with the family, which is what we did. Prayer Mountain is a lovely, quiet place to go to pray and reflect, with a beautiful view. It is free to enter, but donations are appreciated. There is a gift shop and Cafe on site. Clean public bathrooms. The rails and steps are in need of repair on Ten Commandment Mt, so I suggest taking the side road and simply driving up there to the top now. This is a place I would say you do once, and then take your kids.

Beautiful and inspiring Fields of the Wood

By Patricia D |

A beautiful piece of property with a 380 degree view at the top of the mountain;
We visited on Easter Sunday, which was perfectly inspiring. Take a written prayer to the Prayer Garden and leave it there with faith. Climb to the top of the stairs and get a bird's eye view of the property. Enjoy the quiet and peace of the natural setting.

Lovely & peaceful

By jfhasson |

A good deal of stairs to climb, but worth it. Take time to read the various scriptures along the way.

Beautiful and as a Christian, very inspirational

By Angeline B |

We got there late in day, closed at 5. But drove up to cross for the nations. Hiked up the Psalms hill and took in the awe inspiring mountain of ten commandments. Would be great for children. You can not have too much of the word of God, an active and alive instrument for healing, promise, and correction. LOVED this attraction.

Loved the commandments! Tomb! Cross!

By Raretravelo |

Although this place is very isolated, it was easy to find. It took about 3 hours to tour all the sights (many stairs however).

Interesting sights

By kiawahgirl |

I was on a business trip and arrived a day early to explore. I visited the Field of the Woods because I had read from others that it was a "must do" while in Murphy. It was very peaceful and somewhat secluded. It may have been the time of year but I was the only one there which made me feel a little uneasy. The drive from downtown was about 20-25 minutes and construction was going on so it was a bit of a hassle getting there and back. Not quite sure it would be on my "highly recommended" to do things while in Murphy but worth the trip to find some peace and serenity.

Off the beaten path experience

By John B |

This may be a better summer place to visit. The gift shop and cafe were closed. The trek of 326 steps to the top of the 10 commandments is a good cardio workout.

Wonderful vision

By Crystal X |

The person who started this years ago had great vision. I feel this place was awesome in its day but sadly it is in desperate need for some upkeep and love. I know they depend on donations and trust me the need a bunch of them. That being said, this place is a wonderful one time must see. You can walk or see it by automobile. Take time on a beautiful day and plan to picnic and/or hike and enjoy all of God's glorious views and outdoors.

Very inspiring. Beautiful grounds

By Jean M |

A must see in Murphy, very inspiring, beautiful grounds and makes you really think about God and his Glory.

Nice religious-oriented park

By GuyfromILMNC |

I found the park to be very different than others I have visited. The most interesting feature was the Ten Commandments on the hill.

A Good Visit

By Debra C |

The Ten Commandments were as I remember them from about 35 years ago. The gift shop was nice. The grounds were groomed. The Flag of Nations need attention. Some of the flags were on the ground. The restrooms should have been cleaner. I would go ago again because it's so peaceful and quiet there. We spent about an hour roaming around.

Bring your faith and your hiking shoes

By SomedayIreland |

We love this place. The exhibits are a bit dated, and there is a lot of walking. The steps to the top are many but the view from the top is great. It's a little run down in spots, which is too bad. It's by donation only, free actually, wish more folks would donate.

Impressive

By JoeInFla |

It doesn't matter what Denomination you belong to. It is a place that makes you think. You can't avoid it. Nothing was open the day we went. But then, then the object for us, for me, was to see the surroundings.
I wasn't disappointed.

It does need some TLC. There are donation boxes at several locations and I hope that whoever is responsible for the upkeep will be able to start some renovations soon.

Worth the trip

By Marie C |

For lack of a better word, I would call this place a religious theme park. It was so beautiful, peaceful and serene. No admission price, donation boxes are perched here and there. We walked up the 320 stairs to Prayer Mountain, rested along the way and then, of course back down. Quite an accomplishment for us being "slightly older". There is a gift shop there and a small grill/café. It was just beautiful to see the Ten Commandments on the hillside, the replica of the tomb of Jesus and Mount Golgatha. When you are atop the mountain of the commandments, you can see that the hedges are trimmed to read Jesus saved us from our sins. Just a beautiful place to visit.

God’s Country

By Dan |

My wife & I visited this very unique place on Tuesday. Spent about two hours here walking and exploring the grounds. Walked the 300 plus steps up to the top of Prayer Mountain while reading each message on the way up. We did opt to drive to the top of the “Ten Commandments” mountain. There you will find very informative information about the history of “Fields of the Wood” plus picnic tables where you can sit, rest, eat & enjoy the beautiful view. This is a very calm, serene, & stress free place. Good for the soul. Open daily. Free admission (there are boxes for donations which they do need to perform much needed maintenance). Plenty of parking. Restrooms on site. Gift shop & Cafe.

Biblical based must see

Took my granddaughter and nephew. My granddaughter loved going there. We had a picnic due to her Celiac condition. Great places to picnic and family friendly.

Out of town guests visiting with us.

By eagle4332017 |

If you haven't been to this absolutely beautiful "hidden gem", then you are missing out. They are celebrating 75 years this year. It was built in 1943. Whether you are religious or not, you will be amazed by the size, beauty and scenic views. The world's largest set of Ten Commandants on the side of the hill are beautiful. Over 350 steps from the parking lot to the top. Once there, the view downward is unlike any other.
They have a gift shop, restrooms and cafe. We had the Mountain burger and it was delicious. The lady and her husband who oversee the (church owned) property for the Church of God of the Prophecy are super. It's open to the public, no admission fee. We have been twice and plan to go back very soon. Our friends visiting from FL were in awe. The sheer beauty of it all is hard to fully describe. Each Sunday, the Cafe has a special dish, all handmade recipes.

Beautiful Place, great place to pray and read the bible!

I first saw Fields of the Woods when I was a child on vacation, and was struck by the size of the Ten Commandments. Later, on a return visit, I brought my friends from Ohio to see it, and again, I felt the complete peace when I looked on that hill. I've been back many times and I never have lost the wonder of the place.

I feel like if I gave this place any less than five stars I might not sit so well with the big guy LOL. But this place was really cool, and there's a lot of different things to see. The trek to the top of the Commandments was tough but the site was awesome as well as a one-of-a-kind experience. You can definitely spend some more time here than we did, but we saw what we needed to see and enjoyed ourselves. You don't have to be spiritual or religious to understand or appreciate the all and effort put into creating a place like this.

In the mountains of North Carolina.

By Z9379CNangelab |

As a kid, my parents brought me to Fields of the Wood every summer when we visited family.
I remember climbing the steps up the hillside, between the "tablets" of the 10 Commandments.
It had been years since I was there last, but it's still as beautiful as I remember.
If you're ever in Murphy, North Carolina, take a side trip to Fields of the Wood.
You won't be disappointed.
I highly recommend Easter Sunday, the sunrise service.

GOD BLESS ALL THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE THIS AMAZING PLACE POSSIBLE!

By Florence H |

We are so impressed with the details, the beauty, the overall feeling to experience something so profound. The Ten Commandments, Prayer Mountain, just to mention a couple, but how amazing to see scriptures in such an extraordinary display. If only the whole World could experience this.....there was an overall feeling of pure peace there...and all I could think of as I saw so many people .....if only this peace and love could overcome our WORLD TODAY! God bless all the people that made this possible and also for all the people that keep it up and running....we can't wait to return!!! THIS IS A MUST SEE AND BEHOLD BLESSINGS OF THE PURE PEACE....

Not sure what they are trying to accomplish here

By paralegal777 |

Stopped in and was a little confused where it was even open or not. It is run down, no one was out even trying to straighten the letters on the hill that were messed up.

Beautiful Place!

This was a nice place to go, relax and just clear your mind. The gift shop was also wonderful with a great variety of things.

Just a wonderful experience ,left feeling really at peace. Something everyone should experience. The love that went into creating this place was over the top.

I climbed the world's largest ten commandments... AND SURVIVED

By tumbleweedchris |

Fields of the Wood is stuck in the deepest craw of North Carolina. I'll go to any length to see the world's largest anything, so I wound up here. There is a central parking area where you can walk to most of the attractions here. You'll find Prayer Mountain with a bunch of bible quotations, a friendly cat, and a prayer spot at the top with a pile of trash next to it. There is a recreation of Jesus' tomb where you can climb inside for a cheeky photo op. A little farther down is a gift shop with some fun souvenirs, including a shirt that says you climbed the world's largest ten commandments AND SURVIVED. At the top of the mountain, the flag crucifix has no flags, so that is not worth checking out. The main attraction is the commandments. It has certainly seen better days, but is worth climbing up it in case you want to buy an I survived tee. It's a quirky sight, but being tucked away so far from everything makes it tough to justify the trip. Only the most devout religious or roadside attraction zealots should visit this aging wonder.

Beautiful

We enjoyed our visit very much. I had never heard of this. We were visiting my brother in Blairsville and we were searching for something interesting in the area. It is very worthwhile to visit.

One denominations history but such an inspiration for your faith. Ten Commandments on the side of the mountain, flags of all the nations that have churches formed in the symbol of the cross. Must see

Interesting Place

By Tim R |

This was my second visit, but the first one was many years ago. It is an interesting monument to the Bible. I don't agree with some of the beliefs of the denomination that sponsors this place, but it does make you reflect upon the importance of the Bible.

Great Experience

By Teddyhugs4u |

This is such a amazing and I inspirational place to visit. The Ten Commandments on the hill is so awesome! The tomb of Jesus is so well displayed and the gift shop is outstanding. Great souvenirs to cherish for years. The food is awesome! I has the philly cheesesteak which was amazing and melts in your mouth. This place is a must see for sure!

A wonderful place to spend your time. Well worth driving a little out of your way if you have to. I have lived in NC for 53 years and I didn't have any idea there was a place like this to go visit.

Reliving a childhood memory

By barbiewalker72 |

I visited Field of the Wood when I was 12 years old with family while we were on vacation-- remember it fondly and always wanted to go back- 50 years later I had the opportunity while we were visiting friends who lived within 40 min of this-- they had been several times since they moved into the area-- Although the weather was about 29 degrees- I was determined to climb up over 300 stairs to the top-- my friends and hubby waited in the gift shop while I explored in the chilly weather--Very relaxing, peaceful-- beautiful-- I don't remember if the gift shop was there my first visit-- but the hot chocolate I bought after coming down was delicious-- have nice things in shop to buy--

Very pleasant surprise.

By Robin T |

Very pleasant surprise. Didn't know what to expect. Things were a little worn down and the grass needed cutting. But overall a nice place.

Spiritual exercise

By billcondit |

Awesome monumental representation of the Ten Commandments. We climbed the hill and read the Psalms. Taking time to reflect during our journey.

Quiet Place to reflect.

By Barefoot29 |

Must be able to climb lots of stairs to get the full view of everything. You can drive up to the top and look down at the 10 commandments and view the Flags in the shape of a cross. Very beautiful. The photos here are very good. It's a nice place to spend a few hours quietly. It is in an isolated area but easy to find.

Fields of the Woods

By dafbrock |

If you have not visited Fields of the Woods you are really missing out on an awesome trip. Seeing the Ten Commandments on the side of the mountain is really something to see. Climbing the steps to the top to the prayer chapel is very touching. The states have donated a rock with a Bible verse on them. Make plans to visit it the next time you are in the Murphy NC area.

Amazing jewel hidden in the mountains of WNC

By Marilyn C |

We visited on the Saturday before Easter, it was a moving experience to view the 10 Commandments up the side of the mountain and The 3 crosses & the empty tomb. I would highly recommend this park to anyone. A bit of a road trip to get there but so worth it. (a word of warning though, no cell phone service, and some areas are not handicap accessible)

Interesting Spiritual place

By amberg263 |

I have visited her a few times before with my family. You are able to climb the steps to the top or drive to the top. Be sure to drive to the very top to see the flags of many nations. After your visit, you can purchase food at the location or bring a picnic lunch to eat at their outside picnic are located next to the pond. My kids enjoy feeding the fish after we eat. There is also a gift shop.

Great place to walk.

By Y4031QSaliceb |

Great place, but a lot of walking. First time I was there I didn't know
you could drive to the top of the hill and walk down. Second time
was great because I could take my time and enjoy.
It's worth the trip.

Exploring Western North Carolina

By Toyman67 |

My wife and I do a annual trip with no kids, no schedule and no worries. We went to Murphy NC and decide to head over to the Fields of the Wood. It is actually about 30 minutes west of Murphy. If you are a Christian its worth the trip no matter the distance. It has to be one of the holiest places a Christian could visit. I could sit and drink coffee in their park all day, It has a peaceful serene calmness about it, its like you can feel you troubles melt away and the Love of God replace all your worries. I have no affiliation with the park in any manner so when I advocate actually beg you to donate to this place its sincere. We are all to often "Christians of Convenience" and do not stay focused on what we should be doing no matter how apparent it is. We donated when we where there and I ask people give whatever they can so this place can be enjoyed for generations to come. Churches, business, charities, individuals etc help please!

10 Commandment Mountain & World of Flags

In the middle of Gods country in the Appalachian Mountains a man felt and talked to God. Come see the legacy he left to the life altering experience.
Do bring your walking shoes to climb stairs if possible and drive up and see the world of flags that can be seen from space.
There is also a nice gift shop and restaurant.
Thanks

Best deal in WNC

By DonnaAJ |

Well worth the price of admission (free!) on any given day. We decided to stop by this attraction on a whim as we were passing by, and boy, were we glad that we did. It was lovely to wander around the grounds and view the inspirational monuments at leisure. There is also a well stocked gift shop on site, although when I tried to purchase something, the cashier (a volunteer, no doubt) ignored me to chit-chat with someone else until I eventually got fed up and left. The restaurant/snack bar was closing when we got there so we were not able to sample their offerings. It is commendable how well-kept the grounds are, considering they do not charge for admission. Donations in any amount are welcomed and appreciated, of course.

Amazing place for peaceful reflection

By TZDIVERS |

We enjoyed the great view. Perfect place for a picnic and relaxation. Also great for a hike as the steps to the top are amazing. You can also take the short cut and drive up but if you are up for some walking this is a great place for it.

An interesting, very out-of-the-way place

By cbryant13 |

Visited during a genealogy research trip to the area. Full disclosure, this is built on the site of my 3rd-great uncle's house. He was a founding member of the Church of God (Cleveland, TN).
It's an interesting place, unlike any you're likely to find. It is in need of much repair, and the pandemic is obviously taking its toll. I did climb Prayer Mountain, but decided against climbing Ten Commandments Mountain. There's a road that goes up to the top and takes you further up to Flags of the Nations. There are some interesting hiking trails as well. I wish I had had the time to explore them a little more.
I would not recommend going here in the summer, as most of the area is in direct sun.
There's plenty to see and contemplate, especially if you're interested in the history of this church and the Holiness/Pentecostal movement.

Awesome Way to Read the Bible

By Felicia F |

This place is beyond expectations. The Ten Commandments are spelled out on a high hill. For me, this was the main attraction. There are concrete markers found throughout this Park. These markers have bible verses on them depicting important points in the Bible. There is a baptismal pool where people can come to be baptized. There are so many things to see and do. If you cannot climb the 358 steps to the top of the Ten Commandments, you can drive around, stop at the top, get out and have an overview of most of the Park. You can keep driving and circle around the All Nations Cross where flags of other nations who have Church of God facilities are displayed. I plan to return here in the next few months and bring a group with me. Several people want to visit (or re-visit) this most inspiring place.

Amazing!

By jln10961 |

I have relatives that live in this area of North Carolina and visit this place on occasion when I go to visit my family. I can not get past how beautiful this place is. It is very moving and inspiring. I will say I did not use the stairs to go up or down the mountain i used the service road to get up behind the bible and the views from that point are incredible.

Great to see the 10 Commandments at this scale

By Bill0003 |

Walking up the stairs in between the two halves of the 10 commandments is a wonderful experience. These are the principles that will keep the universe safe for all eternity and I love to see this monument to them.

A must see place designed by GOD himself!

By HomerisABE |

I have stopped by Fields of the Wood several times since discovering its' magical place several years ago. Debbie had not had the opportunity to visit so we did on a cold morning recently. It is enough to warm your soul. The gift shop and deli are worth visiting too. They have so many wonderful all year round gifts and lots for Christmas too. HONESTLY! ABE from Jasper, GA

Cool place

By DiscoveringDuo |

This has been on my list of places to check out for awhile now so super excited I finally made it there. Lots of history here and plenty to see and do including a gift shop. You can spend a long time here if you want to check out all the sites and hike it all. They have options to drive to the top so those who have trouble walking don’t let the stairs scare you. It’s a really unique place and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s free to enter and open from sunrise to sunset. Perfect place for groups or families with picnic tables available to hang out or have a meal while there. Cell phone service was very limited. They also have trails nearby.

neat presentation

Nice place to visit. Unique park. Plenty of walking and things to view. Nice gift shop. Beautiful views from the summit at the top.

Inspirational and tranquil setting

By GrandmaJ2014 |

Can't say enough good things about this attraction. Any believer would be enriched by a visit here. There is no admission charge, and visitors are free to roam at will. Parking is plentiful, and the gift shop is well-stocked with a variety of spiritual books, wall hangings and the like. We didn't take advantage of the restaurant on this trip, but hope to next time.

Everything was closed as far as the gift shop and cafe. No one visible to ask questions or give info. We drove to the top of the "Ten Commandments" hill, Then looked at some of the outdoor displays, then left.

This is a wonderful place to visit. Very peaceful and interesting. There is some walking involved but nothing most people could not handle. The café has really good food and the gift shop is nice and has pretty things. Fields of the Wood is free to tour but does take donations. Worth a donation!

Nice side trip while in the Murphy, NC area. There is a gift shop and café. Peaceful and inspirational!

There is much more to see here than meets the eye

By double77s |

The pictures on the website do not do this justice. The hill with the 10 commandments is soooo steep and just gigantic. There were so many little areas where you could reflect, read, and just relax and enjoy the view that we really enjoyed our stop here. We did appreciate that you can drive to the top of the hill for a really gorgeous view of the mountains. We were there before the gift shop or cafe opened, but there was a lot to read and it was just a really peaceful place. Beautiful stop and a wonderful place to reflect and pray.

Mini Vacation

By 219anitaw |

We have wanted to visit Fields of the Woods for a long time and our trip in March, we did. It was awesome and we enjoyed it very much. The grounds are so pretty. I do have to say that some maintenance is needed on the Ten Commandments. Paint is peeling and mildew marring it's beauty. Other than that we had a great time and enjoyed our hike on the opposite side of the park.

Must see! And it’s always open

By Amber R |

What closes is the cafe and the gift shop. So glad someone told me that and that I was able to see this.

Where Scripture Meets Stone: My Trip to Fields of the Woods

By bhlraven1916 |

The Field of the Woods in Murphy, North Carolina is an extraordinary landmark and well worth a visit. It features the world’s largest copy of the Ten Commandments, set into the mountainside, creating a striking and memorable sight. The grounds are thoughtfully maintained, offering both a peaceful atmosphere and a meaningful experience. A unique destination that combines natural beauty with cultural and spiritual significance.

When someone puts their faith into action in such a big way to reach others that is really impressive. Highly recommend a visit to this sacred place.

A forgotten hidden gem

By MS&CS |

I have wanted to see this place for awhile and finally got to go. We really enjoyed our visit. When you go plan on spending about 2 hours. You can see this place for free; but they do take donations to help maintain the place. The Church of God has made a beautiful place. They even have a Baptism Pool, have to have an appointment to use it. They do have a Gift Shop and a Cafe. They have Jesus death to resurrection on display. You can walk the steps to the Ten Commandments, Prayer Mountain, and an Alter at the top. They have picnic tables for picnics. The restrooms are clean. They had people singing Christian Music. They have Nations Croos that has flags from all over the World. A lot of the areas was donated by Church of God Churches from all over the World. It's definitely a good place to visit. It does need some work. They need more donations to make that happen.

Falling Apart

By pudgeUSAF |

I’m sure this was impressive when it was built in the 1940s. Unfortunately, it appears to have not been maintained since then either. Beautiful views from the top, but to get there you pass lots of dirty, crumbling tablets, broken staircases and railings, and the 10 Commandments themselves appear to be sliding off the side of the hill. There is a pronounced anti-Catholic bias on several of the inscriptions, and many others are “Biblical” only in the sense of the particular denomination that created this attraction. I’d say it’s worth a 45 minute stop if you are passing by, but I would not go out of my way for this attraction.

Loved Field of the Wood

By Cbh75 |

We were in awe the first time we visited last year. My grandson wanted to visit again. We love reading the verses, walking the steps of the Ten Commandments. Recommend visiting!

Must see!

By Samantha B |

Stumbled upon this place and glad we did. Spent about 2 hours walking the grounds. Liked that u can drive up instead of walking all the stairs. Enjoyed reading the Bible versus on the walk up. Hate that the gift shop wasn’t open. Would definitely recommend to others and return!

Uplifting

By vhash77 |

What a wonderful way to display God's word. We enjoyed the time we spent walking through the area, reading scripture and seeing how much detail and work had went into developing this place. We did notice that it seemed to need a little extra TLC from all the wear through the years, yet it is still a wonderful place to visit.

Beautiful and unique

By TJ G |

Gorgeous view from the top of those long up, up, up stairs! Great for family picnics. A serene, peaceful beautiful place. The caretakers were wonderful to answer all kinds of questions. Unique and HUGE! I don't know about the other areas of the site because we spent time mostly eating, climbing the stairs, talking in normal voices (loud mouths need to go elsewhere) because it spurs in visitors a spiritual feeling, regardless of denomination or faith. Because someone took time and money to create such a lovely place, visitors should respect the property and the visitors. LOVED IT!

Church Ladies Retreat

Our churches ladies group took a trip to see the Fields of the Wood. If you have never been, it's a must see in the Southwestern NC Mountains. The Ten Commandments were breathtaking! You can walk up the prayer mountain or 10 commandments mountain or you can drive around as they have roads for access.

Wonderful place to Visit.

By crystal28906 |

We took our boys here on a field trip. It was so peaceful and it was a neat way to bring to life biblical stories that we had shared with them. A wonderful family outing. There are trails and picnic tables. You can watch a sunset from the top of the hill.

Amazing. Very spiritual.

By Tab B |

My husband and I traveled to Murphy NC for the weekend. Our first stop was Fields of the Wood. The ten commandments are huge. It's truly a remarkable place. There was also a replica of Jesus tomb and a huge concrete cross made up of flag poles of countries that have Christian religion along with a baptism pool. However the steps leading through the ten commandments are of different heights and I fell once but made it to the top. Beware, the restrooms are very tight quarters. The stall door touches you while you're doing your business.

Day Trip

We loved this experience. We did not walk up to the top but we did drive up and it was so peaceful. The grounds are beautiful and there is a lot to learn while you are here. Great scriptures and just a really calm experience. We loved it.

Beautiful, Serene, Spiritual Retreat

By DeWayne H |

With family roots in this area, I have grown up familiar with this beautiful, spiritual theme park, but when I am around others who see it for the first time, I am reminded of really how special it is. In the center of the park, you are surrounded by two mountains—one containing the world's largest Ten Commandments with the words of Christ resting above it and the other a mountain of prayer with biblical truths. As the Bible says, the rocks do indeed cry out, testifying of His goodness. On either of the mountaintops, you have some of the best views of the majestic mountains of North Carolina. Additionally, there are hiking trails, recreations of Golgotha and the Garden Tomb and a Gift Shop/Cafe with some of the best food around. Admission to the park is free but donations are accepted. Whether going out to spend some alone time in prayer or taking friends and family on a picnic, there's no other place like it. Very highly recommended if you haven't been there.

My husband and I spent several hours refreshing ourselves spiritually. The display of the ten commandments was a beautiful display. Be sure and walk to the top and look down at all the three crosses,The replica of the empty tomb and them climb the prayer mountain. I assure you will leave feeling very humble and blessed.

A Nice Place to Stop & Reflect on the Things of God

By Michelle N |

When you pull into the park there is a mountain on the right that has the 10 Commandments spelled out on the face of the mountain. You can drive to the top to visit the All Nations Cross, other monuments, and view the Commandments from the top of the mountain and then drive back down. Another option to get to the top of this mountain is to climb the 358 stairs to the top.
The mountain on the left (as you pull in) is Prayer Mountain which has replicas of the Garden Tomb, Golgotha Hill, a Baptismal Pool, and then monuments inscribed on marble tablets depicting 29 biblical teachings which can be meditated on as you climb the 321 steps to the top. There is no other way to the top other than stairs, so those who cannot make it up the stairs will not be able to visit this side of the park.
Straight ahead from the entrance is the gift shop and a little snack bar and the people are very friendly. at the top of the mountain).
Parking is free. There is no entrance fee. And the park is run off of donations, and there are donation boxes at various parts throughout the park. There are also benches and areas to sit along the way to rest or simply reflect on the things of God.

By SOster |

As my wife and I passed by on our way to or destination we saw this on the side of the road and made a note to stop back on our way home. Glad we did because it is worth the stop. I was amazed that this was almost 80 years in the making. The various items give you time for reflection if you so need.

Um....now what?

By PeacefulHealthyHappy |

Well, the Ten Commandments are big. We wandered around and couldn't figure out what the hype was all about. No one is around and really you just stand there and look at the hillside with the commandments. It was the middle of the day and the little gift and ice cream shop was closed. Have no desire to go back. I feel much closer to God just sitting on my deck and watching the sun rise. It doesn't need to be commercialized.

A place everyone should visit

By 56joycec |

Loved everything about it. Make sure you go to the top. Also drive up the road behind the Ten Commandments and see all the flags. Check out the store on the property, a lot of items for sale.

Very spiritual, but needs attention

By Nick D |

We took a short drive out of Murphy to go see the Fields, and while it is very spiritual, they need to spend some money on upkeep. Hand rails were failing apart, weeds everywhere. The grass was freshly cut, but a bottle of weed killer would make things look a whole lot better. We walked into the tomb and there were not only bird nests, but 6 bats up in the corner of the tomb.... I don't want to this to sound too bad, the reading of the tablets was interesting and a work out on the stairs. Please stop for the experience.

Can’t wait to go back with more family members this year.

By Tami C |

We love Fields of the wood. It runs on donations.
It is an amazing experience. 2 hill sides full of a great history and faith. No matter where you come from you can climb both areas and learn something new. The biggest 10 commandments we’ve ever seen. There’s a tomb like from Jesus would have been it. Bible verses up one side. Gift shop and cafe are also on site and both are incredible. There’s also a drive bypass if
You can’t make it up the mountain physically. So it’s great for every age.

My children are really young 4 and 5 and they are hard to keep entertained but there was so much to see there that they were never bored. The kids loved the dinosaur's and the mummy's there.

Hidden gem...

We were traveling from Tennessee to Georgia and decided to take trip thru Murphy so we could see the Fields of the Wood (a friend had told us about it). We were all amazed at how pretty the place was. It is kinda out in the middle of nowhere but the drive there was pleasant. As a christian I was very impressed by the magnitude of the park but even those who are not spiritual would enjoy a visit.

Beautiful, serene and awe inspiring

Beautiful, serene and awe inspiring. To think someone devoted a good part of their life creating this from devotion and love. Wonderful place to sit, reflect and just take in the beauty.

A place where God seems to touch the earth with His story.l

A religious park of more than 200 acres owned by the Church of God of Prophecy. It is best known for its 300-foot-wide, mountainside representation of the Ten Commandments. There is a cross on top of a mountain area that you can walk or drive to with outstanding views not to be missed. Numerous religious representations and the history of the Field make for a fascinating activity for young and old. Great gift shop and restaurant also. As locals we visit many times a year and it never grows old.

Wow, what an amazing complex!

Just go see this landmark. Plenty to do, take your camera too! Pretty good restaurant also!
Even if you're not religious, make a point to visit.

My friend and I visited Fields of the Woods. I had been here years ago but she had not even heard of it. We both enjoyed visiting. The Ten Commandments hill is breathtaking and the entire place is spiritually inspiring. Years ago our youth group held a service as we looked upon the Ten Commandments. Very powerful message was received that day. This is a must see to those who believe.

This is a great place for family
Of course it's geared toward those who are looking for a certain type of religious experience
It's a soothing place to visit
The grounds are well kept even though the area has been around for a while
If you are in Murphy please go.

I was really blown away with the whole place. From the Ten Commandments, to the baptism pool, and the tomb. They have a neat little gift shop and a place to eat. Went back a second time our first visit cut short due to rain. Get reading to walk though.

Awesome Place

We had a great time. It takes a while to climb the steps. Good cardio. We loved it. Allow time so you can see everything. Must stop if you are going thru Murphy.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon during the Easter celebration weekend. They hosted an egg hunt for kids and had tons of eggs! Such a beautiful place. Wish we could have stayed for the music and passion play that was scheduled.

The pictures of the location does not do it justice. The scale of the attraction is unbelievable . When you climb to the top you can get a fantastic view of the area.

This is a place where you can walk and see the bible versus on the ground and walls. It is a peaceful place and is not to far off the beating path.
