Portrays the history of Paducah through artful scenes of the past. Well lit at nighttime. Nice walk through memory lane. Nice sidewalks to enjoy it from.

We walked around to see these beautiful murals. They are so beautiful and meaningful. On every mural there is some information about that particular time. Very historical. We recommend to take a walk by the river and look at these beautiful murals. There is also a beautiful old train donated to the city of Paducah by the state of Illinois to remind the people that aside from barges there were trains that would take merchandise out of town as well.

We stopped in Paducah en route to Chattanooga and, after resting the night, wanted to drive into the town to see the murals. They do a nice job of describing history.
We were fortunate to have a beautiful morning to walk the length, front and back and read about the city.
Plentiful parking in lot across the street.

Had a great walk along the river enjoying these murals on the flood wall. Great idea in making a bleak wall into a work of art.

The Murals are along the Riverwalk, so they are all the same thing. The Murals showcase events in Paducah's history starting in the early 1800's with the explorers. There are Murals depicting events during the Civil War. Some of them are more current, up to the 20th and 21st Century, so it is not just a bunch of old stuff. I did feel like I knew the city a little better. When we were there, an artist was doing touch up work on one of the Murals showing that these are important to the city. There are several panels still not painted, waiting for the future to happen. There is a steam locomotive, baggage car and caboose on display in front of the murals. Great spot for family photos. We walked along the river behind the murals and the maps explained the view. There is a restroom down at one end of the riverwalk. I did not use it so I can't comment further. It was very hot that day, and I did not see a water fountain. May want to take your own water bottle.

Loved the Murals, they tell alot of history so take the time to look and read. We had a great time walking and looking at this, it was morning time and a great time to walk. Met some very nice people on our walk, talked to quite a few and everyone was so nice. Thanks Puducah.

A must see, It shows and tells you a part of the areas history. The artwork is amazing.
You can also relax awhile on a bench on the river and watch the boats go by.

Very nicely done. Nice walk along the blocks. Didn't get all of them seen but enjoyed the time spent. Worth the time. Nice sunny day

I love this idea of artwork on the flood walls. The paintings are awesome and tell the history of this quaint community in such an artistic way!

The wall is painted with various scenes about the history of Paducah. At night the wall is lit so you can take in the artwork as you stroll. Openings in the wall allow you to view the river.

These are the most wonderful larger than life paintings. I was totally impressed. They are continuously being painted so they never look bad. Must see if you are in Paducah.

Stretching on the barrier walls separating the town from the Ohio River is a wonderful array of murals telling the story of the history of Paducah
Well worth a stroll- there are some benches on the river side to picnic or rest

This mural display gave highlights of the history of Paducah. It is a creative way to make the flood wall a point of interest. I enjoyed the artists interpretation of major events in Paducah from the founding to the present day.

I did not realize the history of Paducah’s past. Many Murals depicting the past. Great walk looking at the art while reading history blogs in front of each. Shed light on things I had no idea of. After visiting I researched some further

A beautiful walk down memory lane by the river! Each mural told its own story of Paducah. I would park by quilt museum and walk down! Free to see!

We walked all the way along and read every story. It was a great way to learn about a town. The paintings were beautifully presented.

The paintings are really well done. Its cool how they show Paducah at different times in history. I like to learn about the atomic age things that happened there.

This was very nice to see. Really enjoyed all the different murals. They are beautifully done and really enjoyed them. It was nice walking on the water front and seeing these beautiful murals.

I am from Paducah and I have been here plenty of times. I recommend this place so much and when ever family and friends visit I tell them to go here!

The murals are so beautiful. If you are in Paducah, this is a must stop. You can see the murals and enjoy the Riverwalk at the same time.

I highly recommend a visit to this riverfront downtown, historical community. The preservation of the buildings are a nice backdrop to the floodwalls which are used to tell the history of Paducah, Ky. The massive train is also worth seeing. I recommend spending 60-90 minutes viewing the Floodwalls murals.

Very impressive, unusual experience. Did not take long to walk along and see these. I would recommend going on a day that is not too cool/cold. This was along the river and this did add to how much cooler it felt. The detail on the paintings are excellent. (make sure you make a pit stop before arrival--the restroom area was clean, but somewhat primitive)

During our trip to see the full eclipse, we were able to spend some time downtown walking around and viewing the murals. Although a couple of them were hidden behind other structures, there were a lot of them and it was interesting to see what occasions were thought worthy of a mural. Some were obvious major events, others were more tied to local "celebrity", and still others were just interesting tidbits. If you are downtown, definitely check it out.

Storytelling at its best. Best example of making lemonade from a lemon I have seen for quite a while. The flood wall is a necessity but it is quite ugly. Painting the murals was a great idea and give the history of Paducah. Bravo.

Though it was 93 degrees along the flood wall I got out of the car and walked half the murals and took pictures..they are exquisitely done. There is so much history in Paducah.. William Clark was from this town, he of Lewis and Clark fame..then we drove by the rest of them. Definitely a must see!

We had heard about this and wanted to see it. Unfortunately it was 95 degrees the day we were there so we couldn't see all of it because it just got too hot. They have small plaques on each section to explain it. It was very interesting and we would do it again if we visit Paducah again.
There is a busy road next to it so you have to watch out for the cars as you cross from one area to the next.

Very clean riverfront, it was very well maintained. Interesting things to see. Also a plus there was a concert, that evening and they were practicing. Good music.

This area of the city is rich in architecture, specialty shops and restaurants. An enjoyable afternoon.

Lovely walk along the flood wall. Filled with historical plaques along the way. River views too. Worth the time we spent. Glad a friend suggested it. Downtown area has some nice restaurants too.

Nice place to walk while you read history and look at murals depicting the history of Paducah. Murals right on the River and very scenic. Easy walk, from start to end. Very easy parking and access. On the river side they have benches that you can pause and sit and watch Barges and boats on the river. good section of town, once parked can walk to other attractions easily. Very enjoyable for all ages.

The murals are amazing. The details of each mural tell the history of Paducah and makes you want to research more. Yes it does block the view of the Ohio River but there is a walkway along the river side of the wall. I would definitely recommend taking advantage of visiting the wall to learn the history of Paducah.

The murals were interesting and offered historical information. We enjoyed the walk along the river with our dogs. Most people in Paducah are friendly.

This was a great walk and instead of the flood walls surrounding the city just being cold grey concrete there is the history of the town, a really well presented account dating back a couple of hundred years, well worth the walk.

I loved that this told the history of the area and groups came today to sponsor one of the murals Take the time to read some of the plaques and enjoy

Great way to get a summary of the area history. Informative murals telling. the River history. Enjoyed this a lot

We spent about an hour strolling by the murals painted on the floodwall and reading the explanations of them, learning a lot in the process. Pretty much all ages could enjoy this; plenty of room to move at your own pace. Part of a train is also at the end, making it a 3D experience. Easily accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, and folks in a car could view the murals also.

It's a very nice area to explore along the River. I did see someone who was taking a tour with a guide that explained what the murals were depicting, but I just enjoyed looking at them myself.

The flood walls on the river have local lore preserved in murals. I wanted to learn more after seeing them. Louis and Clark purchased the entire area the towns is built on and more surrounding it for $5. Lots to learn about this friendly place.

If you enjoy art and history and learning about a city’s heritage, the murals are a must-see. The art is beautiful and does a great job of portraying history. It’s a good place to walk and look around.

I had the Fried Green Tomato BLT. Very good! The grape salad was cold and crisp. Easy to find, fun atmosphere.

It was informative and fun making are way looking at and reading about the birth and growth of the city of Paducah.

What a pleasant place to walk and read the history of Paducah. We really enjoyed admiring the area and that plenty of parking area was allocated for visitors. The stores and shops looked really neat. We wished they had opened at 9:00 a.m. when traveling and trying to see as much of an area that you can losing those morning hours add up.

This is really street art at its best and sets out the history of Paducah over recent years. Makes excellent use of the flood wall.

As soon as we got off the riverboat, we were met by Paducah residents that served as a welcoming committee since the American Duchess was in town, and the first thing they pointed out were the murals on the floodwall. They are outstanding, and truly do tell a story. The artist(s) were there the day we docked and several of our cruisers go to talk with them. It was very interesting.

This is an interesting thing to see. It was totally different than what I expected. Would be fantastic to see in the spring or fall.

A great place to go and see the spectacular vision of artist and a special way to commemorate a day gone by. There are beautiful colors, special depictions and patriotic scenes for everyone to enjoy. A great way to see a life saving cumbersome concrete wall turn into a living portrait for all ages to appreciate. Young and old will love this contribution to this city. Great for people passing through or disabled people to be part of this beautiful scenery without leaving the comfort of their vehicle. Easy parking though and walking along side as well and easy access to the waters edge!

Definitely something to see. Lots of history. Next to river. Easy walking. Other things nearby to see.

Fairly good artwork on this floodwall and each panel depicts some of the history of the area. Worth the walk

The history of the area is depicted in many paintings. We watched an artist working on one so there must be more coming up soon. You can drive through the wall to drive along the river for a block or two. Also, there’s a train parked along the wall, too. It’s just a short walk from the restaurants in town.

Neat little walking history of the area portrayed by artists renderings on the flood wall. Small town pride on display.

Out of all the times we have traveled through Paducah, this was the first time we were aware of the murals and made the most of our opportunity to enjoy viewing them. Take time to also stroll along the river side of the Floodwalls and enjoy the view. Well worth the time.

Nice to stroll the wall while taking a visit down memory land of Paducah. Artwork of the wall is breathtaking

I was not for sure as to what to expect with Murals on Flood Walls but to my surprise the Floodwall Murals are Really Cool !!
The Murals give a historic look into Paducah's past as well as into the future.
Very well done.
A whole more interesting than just a gray floodwall!!!

Beautiful way to decorate the flood walls, and a nice way to honor the history of the city. Makes a nice walk to incorporate into a downtown walk.

What a great way to beautify a flood wall and provide information on local history as well. My wife and I took in all the murals on a cold windy Saturday morning.

We came on on a genealogy and geocaching trip. This is such a lovely area, full of history and great restaurants and we loved the Foxbriar Inn where we stayed!

We had heard about the Floodwall but it was so much better than expected in person.
Worth the trip!
We want to return and enjoy all of the art district.

A really great pictorial view of the history of the region. Beautiful presented in an elegant manner on the bank of the river.

There are about 50 or so of these murals painted on the city side of the floodwall, and it costs nothing to see them. You can just walk from one end to the other, starting at the left end, and get a nice local history lesson. If you just look at the pictures, they are enjoyable, but you may not understand what they are showing. To get the real meanings, read the sign below each one briefly telling the story.
Just looking at the pictures will take you only 15 minutes if you don't work at understanding what you see. Reading all the signs will expand that to an hour or two, and you will get a lot more out of the experience.

As you walk along the flood-walls, you learn about the history of Paducah. Each mural is a beautiful work of art and the placards in front of them give you a synopsis of what is being depicted in each mural

Don’t use the map link in this app, instead put, “Historic Riverfront” into your google map app. It’ll lead you the way to historic downtown Paducah and the wall. Cute town!

A beautiful display of the history of the city and its inhabitants. Very easy to find and view taking your time to look at each of the murals. Walking the downtown area is a bonus.

Each mural has an explanation in front of it. At night, there are flood lights on each section making them even neater to look at.

This is alongside the water and so pretty. You have to go see it. I believe that it was just completed this year.

The flood walls are beautiful. They tell the history of Paducah. These wall protect the city and have been there since 1937. Pretty cool to see.

Loved the murals. Stopped and looked at every single one and took pictures of them all. A great way to spend a couple hours.

Great way to see the some of the history in Paducah and to understand how the city had grown. Great scenic view of the river along the walk too!

Walked the length of the Walls, stopping to read the commentary and snap a photo now and then. It was a crisp morning, and this was the perfect way to spend some time outside. We also had a photo op at "Welcome to the Port of Paducah" painted on the river side of the wall. Strolled a little way on the river bank before returning to the street side to finish the murals. The plaques accompanying the murals provided lots of information and a few fun facts about the paintings. Definitely worth an hour to learn about Paducah and the river.

We drove down the street to see these murals as it was raining. Luckily no one was behind us and we had time to take it all in. The murals depict the history of this river city.

It was nice to walk along the river and see a visual history of Paducah. It's nice to see a good use of what could be industrial looking walls protecting the city from potential flooding from the river. Definitely makes the waterfront a nicer looking area.

The murals are really well painted, present an interesting history of the area, and if you follow along them from left to right you'll end up at the train that is outdoors.

These are have been named as the most popular tourist attraction in Kentucky by Trip Advisor. The Floodwall Portraits from Paducah's Past present is a public art experience available at all hours as they are even lit up at night. More than 50 life-sized panoramic murals by renowned artist Robert Dafford and the Dafford Murals Team cover a wealth of themes in glorious colour. You might think, how do they keep them so pristine and combat the weather? - the answer is quite simple, they are maintained and touched up when required to keep them in tip top condition.

We were in Paducah for other reasons but stumbled upon the flood wall murals and were very impressed. Though we were there in the dead of winter and did mostly a drive by for most of it, a more leisurly stroll in nicer weather and being able to read the placards along the way along the waterfront is highly recommended. Haven't seen anything like this anywhere else I've been.

While looking around Paducah Kentucky we stumbled upon the flood wall with many murals on them. What a novel way to make a bland concrete wall pop !!!

Enjoyed looking at the murals before returning to our ship, the American Duchess. These types of murals are quite common, but a lovely way to decorate the levee and depict the history of the people and events along the Mississippi River.

We were pleasantly surprised at how informative and beautiful the murals are. Strolling along the riverfront is beautiful with so many barges and tugboats

My daughter and I spent the night before the night before the eclipse at a nearby hotel. After 8 hours in the car, we were delighted to stretch our legs on the Riverwalk. The murals were an extra special treat for a couple of history buffs! Loved the visuals and especially the accompanying plaques with the historical information. What an incredible and interesting history!

Paducah is my hometown, and I never tire of going down to the flood walls to see the murals. Even though I'm not living there anymore, I am still close enough to go see them a couple times a year. It's withing walking distance of the quilt museum, so it's a nice way to spend an afternoon. My favorite is of the Harley Davidson themed ones sponsored by the local chapter of HOG. I even have a print of it on my wall.

I came upon the murals just by chance as they near the motel and railroad museum. Some really great art work that was just one part of the surprising part of visit .

We had always driven by Paducah on the hwy, but this time decided to stop and check out the historic downtown area. The riverfront is very nicely done! The murals are beautiful and the informative plaques below each one give plenty of good information. Both the murals and the plaques are nicely done and in great condition. There are several places along the stretch where you can go through and walk along the river. Again, very nicely done on that side of the levee as well. Beautiful!

If you're in the area this is a great place to see something unique and learn about the area's history. The murals are neat to look at and the plaques below give a lot of great info about Paducah. It's also a great jumping off point to see everything the fantastic historic downtown area has to offer.

Beautiful art display on the flood wall in beautiful, historical downtown Paducah. My hometown. We have several visitors a year stay with us and the flood wall murals are a must-see every time. A pleasant stroll or drive depicting some of Paducah’s history.

This attraction takes as long as you want. You can stroll from one end to the other learning about the history of Paducah, seeing seasonal events, discovering organizations, finding hidden gems. A good example is the Strawberry festival. Find the young man sitting in the field with a yellow shirt. He is John Lennon "Strawberry Fields Forever". Oh yea, lots to see. Each mural has an instructive sign and if you want you can purchase a book "Wall to Wall" from several stores near by. AND, the walking tour is FREE!

What beautiful artwork to show the history for the area . Is worth checking out , we were able to talk to someone that happened to be down there that told us about the artist and give us some history about the area .

I really enjoyed my early morning walk along the riverfront. I liked the large train and the farmers market (Saturday morning). Well taken care of murals!

These murals depict the history of the Ohio River Paducah area. They are well preserved and very detailed.

Paducah's floodwall displays several panels depicting the history of the town. The art work is beautiful and gives visitors a bird's eye view of the town through out the years.

This is a must see when you are in Paducah. The artist is from Lafayette, Louisiana. The murals are so realistic. Dont miss this.

We've been to numerous river towns that had murals on the levee walls, but these are REAL good! Each one also has a plaque describing the scene and historical value. Spend some time here, it's worth it.

This is a captivating history lesson of the city and surrounding area beautifully displayed. Absolutely one of the best features of the city and a very well done collection. Spent a lot more time than we thought we would because it was so interesting and beautiful.

Outstanding. Informative, attractive, educational. Did not count, but could be 25 murals depicting the history of Paducah. Beautifully painted, and the city has a commitment to touch them up regularly so they don't ever lose that just painted look. Each mural has a plaque describing the mural so the artwork has meaning. I have worked on murals and therefore studied murals widely through travels - and these are the best presentation I have seen. Two added benefits - it is along the river so you can come back along the riverwalk, and it's free. Plus, it is located along the same blocks as the quilt, river history and railroad museum and adjacent to the farmer's market. Just park and enjoy it all.

These murals are obviously something that people from Paducah will enjoy, but for out of towners, they're kind of boring. I did enjoy the history that is represented. I wonder if perhaps the murals are a bit underwhelming because of the state of the downtown area. If anything, the murals are the high point of downtown, so they should be proud of that.

Paducah's Floodwall Murals are breath taking. The attention to detail and the documenting of Paducah's history was really impressive. The best way to see these is to walk the floodwall and read the signs with each mural.

A very interesting and educational place to walk and learn the history of Paducah. The murals are very well done and there are openings which afford access to the Ohio River and the Port of Paducah. Really enjoyed our late evening walk there with our dog.

The flood wall tells the story of Paducah in beautiful murals through time. A wonderful sight to see. A must see! And on the other side see the Ohio and Tennessee rivers join and giant barges of commerce moving up and down stream.

We were in Paducah to see a show at the incredible Carson Center and took some time to review the awesome murals on the flood walls here. First, it's a great way to add color and life to what could be a dreary flood wall, but most importantly, it shares the historical story or Paducah in very interesting way. Never knew that Lewis and Clark were in the area, or the barge-building industry was big here or all the special people who made Paducah great.
Definitely worth your time...visually engaging and lesson learning!

There is never a time you drive by these murals that someone isn’t viewing them. Very informative and interesting. Allow plenty of time to see them all.

Really remarkable use of the sea wall. History of town is depicted. Interesting facts and pictures. River was high because water was seeping in.

I can only dream of some of the mural designs I saw. If you’re here on business or leisure please take the time to walk the wall. You’ll not be disappointed.

We stopped at the murals after visiting the National Quilt Museum, they are very close. It was a very hot day, so our visit was not lengthy and we did not see all the murals. However, my wife and I really liked it, the murals are well-done and most of all provide valuable information about Paducah. Well-worth a visit!

It was basically just okay. When I read about it I had actually expected a lot more then what I seen, I guess if you are right there you may as well go look at it.

amazing murals in old downtown Paducah along the river by the same artist who painted the ones in Covington and Maysville,KY and Portsmouth, OH. Little markers explain what each mural panel is all about. Not only beautiful but educational too for history buffs. And beyond the walls is the Ohio River! beautiful

The murals are beautiful and there are explanation monuments at each one explaining the significance of each. I highly recommend driving down behind them to the water. It’s steep but cool! You can literally drive right down to the water and watch barges.

Great display of artwork along the riverfront. A quick way to learn the area history. Beautiful art too.

I was on a cruise down the Ohio with the Queen of the Mississippi and had seen some Dafford murals in two other cities during our trip. These are gorgeous and historical. DO NOT MISS THESE!

I was expecting graffiti and not pieces of art on a flood wall. Wow! Beautiful portraits of the history of the area. What a genius idea to make beautiful something useful. Fantastic views of the Ohio River in a quaint town as Paducah is. A must see.

Very nice addition the river area and downtown businesses. Parking right across the street. Nice job by the artists and a great glimpse at local history.

Love looking at the murals they show the history of Paducah through time and in beautiful detail. From the Natives to the Atomic boom in Paducah you feel like you are transported in time through the paintings.

When in Paducah head to the end of Broadway and take in the murals on the flood wall. They are just beautiful and do an excellent job in teaching Paducah's history.

Saturday night the weather was beautiful and we walked along the river and read about the murals. It was a great summary of the history of Paducah.

WALK OR DRIVE ~ but don't miss the Murals on the Flood walls. The concrete wall in downtown Paducah are 14 feet in height. The flood walls were constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers between August 1939 and July 1949, along the Ohio River. Now, the walls are home to a series of murals about art and history of Paducah including that of Native and African American. The Floodwall murals were painted by the Muralist, Robert Dafford. The large that life murals feature themes from a time gone by, such as the telephone operators operating the switchboards or a river boat at the edge of the Ohio River. Each mural has a interpretive panel in front of that mural. You can drive in your car slowly pass the wall and see a lot. But, I recommend getting out and strolling along the walk to see these majestic paintings. You will be truly amazed. There is parking, local shops and restaurants are close by to the walk. You can even go on the other side of the wall, and get down to the river. Beautiful walk on a nice day!

These were beautifully done! We wandered down after our visit to the quilt museum. The colors are so vivid, and the paintings themselves are so life-like. Our girls loved them.

We were just travelling through and didn't have enough time to really enjoy the murals or other downtown sites. There are many murals with information at the base of each one. We only looked at them and read a few, but we are definitely coming back to take our time and see more of Paducah!!

We went down early in the morning before the heat and enjoyed the walk through history. Very informative and artistic. The flood wall is amazing to see.

Fun and easy to see these murals near the river. A fast study of the history of the town and the river.

Some of the best murals we have ever seen. It was fun to see how this was the actual floodwall, and how the gates can be removed after flood danger has passed. What a creative way to celebrate this wall that was built purely for function. We liked it better than the quilt museum, which is what we stopped in Paducah to see.

This was a very interesting place to visit. We drove from West Plains, MO It was a 4 hour trip. It was worth the trip.

My wife and I have driven through Paducah on several occasions while traveling between Chicago and Sarasota, Florida. We have stopped to eat and stopped for gas. But we've never stopped overnight to visit historic Paducah's tourist attractions. Not until recently. Until then, we weren't aware that the Floodwall Murals were the most popular tourist attraction in Kentucky. Yes, more popular than Churchill Downs or Rupp Arena or Mammoth Cave. Go figure. If you're in the neighborhood, you've got to see them. You've never seen anything like them. Located along a three-block stretch in the heart of downtown Paducah, from Water Street and Jefferson Street to Washington Street, it is a series of 50 panels that showcase Paducah's history. Designed and painted by Robert Dafford and Dafford Muralists of Lafayette, Louisiana, the project was begun in 1996 and the last panel was completed in 2007. They span three city blocks along the floodwall that stretches 12.5 miles and was built after the flood of 1937. They overlook the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers and give visitors an understanding of how the rivers have shaped Paducah's culture. The murals are flawlessly maintained with bronze interpretative panels at the foot of each painting that tell the history of that particular time. In addition, another historic relic on display along the floodwall is the Illinois Central's 2-8-2 1518 Mikado steam locomotive, the only one in existence today. The murals are fascinating works of art and history. Among the most interesting are Lewis & Clark passing through Paducah in 1803, the Civil War era when Grant occupied pro-Confederacy Paducah and a 1996 painting when all three of the Delta Queen Steamboat Company's boats--Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen and American Queen--docked at Paducah at the same time. The murals are located only a short distance east of I-24. It's worth a stop.

Murals were high quality and gave a detailed review of this community. There is also a steam engine on display...the largest one I have ever seen. Downtown area was also well maintained in original condition from the early 1900's. Just passing by on I24 and stopped for a rest breark. Pleasantly surprised

This is a great attraction and it is free, the only problem is getting there. It may take some planning as the one-way streets make if a little difficult. If you use Washington to get to Water Street, that will put you in the right place. Now that you have seen them, park in the big lot and go back and walk the length of the murals. Next, go the Quilt Museum and buy the book.

There are about 50 murals on the floodwalls by the river in Paducah. They tell the history of the city, and are very informative. It was a good way to spend about half an hour on a sunny day. They're right by downtown and the National Quilt Museum.

A series of panoramas painted on the flood walls along the Ohio River depicting life on the river in the 19th century.

We chose to venture into downtown Paducah on our way by on I-24, during a recent road trip. While walking over to see the riverfront from the large free parking lot, we discovered this masterfully done mural wall with its informational placards. The murals are a depiction of the city's history and the rolls the rivers and Native Americans have had on it. Thanks for the journey thru time that can be done at your leisure at no cost.

Can't imagine how it was before. They are very entertaining and are detailed for everyone. There are beautiful walkways and parks and ice cream and carriage rides etc.

Educational murals revealing Paducah history from early 1300-now. Great brass placards describing the mural scenes.

Enjoyed the murals while staying at the 1895 Washington Hotel!! It was one of the many highlights of our trip to Paducah! We can’t wait to go back and stay at the hotel again and see more of downtown!

What a beautiful way to show the history of the city! The murals are all stunning & the walk along the Mississippi River made the experience even nicer. It's also a short walk to several nice restaurants and the Quilt Museum.

My only regret is that I wanted to photograph all of them, but I had to leave to get to my sister's home in Tennessee by a certain time. The murals are well done and provide a history of the city and area before the town was founded. One was being restored while we were there. I was able to speak with the artist. If you go, look for the mural that is painted in such a way that is shows a bold young man balancing himself on the frame.

The murals painted on the flood wall of downtown Paducah are wonderful--each telling a chapter of the story of the establishment and development of Paducah. Take some time to study each one. Some will be fixed in your mind forever.

The murals border the shopping/restaurant district and the Ohio river. Not only are the murals artistically beautiful to look at, but also give a history of Paducah. Great place to stop and visit; very close to the National Quilt museum and Paducah’s railroad museum.

Interesting murals by the river, supply some history of the area, and offer a nice view of the river too.

Great thing to do at your own leisurely pace. Took me about 45 minutes. Great snapshot of local history. Fantastic artwork.
After perusing the wall return to the beginning via the opposite side of the wall and take in the riverfront view.

Murals depict life and history of a river town in good times and bad, free parking and restrooms located in parking lot, restraunts, shopping, antique stores easy walking distance from parking area, safe and secure, fun trip

Super review of the river town as it moves through history. When we were at the wall, a young man is in the process of repainting all of the murals. He said he is reworking most of the murals as originally painted though he is adding a few of his own portions of the painting.

Great walk, Great history! Tells the story of this historic town! We are amazed on how good the painting are! Don't miss seeing them late in the afternoon when they are lit by the sun!

This is a very nice relaxed walking tour (not guided, but a public area) on the riverfront. Choose your time wisely- don't go on a hot day because shade is not available. There are a few places along the flood wall to sit and rest. The paintings are all very interesting, depicting a part of the history of the area. You can see as much or as little of the wall as you want. It's worth a trip.

What a wonderful idea; take what would be a dreary concrete obstruction, and turn it into a well conceived and artistic depiction of Paducah's history.
The murals are very nicely rendered, and provide a chronological story about the areas transformation.
One can walk, bike or (as we did due to a very hot and humid day) slowly drive along this pictorial pathway.
Kudos to whoever originated this attraction.

Great use of necessary wall after the massive floodings. Cool to see and learn some of the history. Pretty good capture of most details.

Located on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Paducah, KY. Walking distance from the National Quilt Museum. It was brought to pur attention from a local to visit if we were in town. It is a snapshot of the history of Paducah, KY

These capture a lot of history about the area. Interesting to look at, and also read the explanations. And, of course, you're right at the river, so you have to check that out. A no-brainer if you're in town. Maybe not worth a special trip (but the quilt museum is, so won't you be there anyway?).

Just passing through and it was recommend to check these out. Such talent! Really enjoyed strolling past the artwork.

Wonderful walk to see the murals. Absolutely wonderful! Every picture tells a story. And the train is an added bonus.

I was at the south end primarily to look at the locomotive when I started looking at the murals and reading the plaques. I could not stop at one or two and ended up spending time at most of them. If you are a history buff or just the curios type of person it well worth your time.

I love history, and the mural ticked a lot of items off that list. It's worth the walk through the city.

Every time we have guests come to visit us we take them down to the flood wall-this gives the history of the town of Paducah. The walls are beautifully kept up and we enjoy 😊 showing off this part of Paducah.

This was really worth going to see. The murals were just beautiful. I took lots of pictures so I could show my friend and family who will never be able to get there to see them.

The artwork in the murals is nice, but I really enjoyed learning the history of the area. I had no idea that William Clark of Lewis and Clark fame was involved in the creation of the early city.

The floodwall murals were one of our favorite visits in Paducah. Beautiful, colorful painted walls each depicted a piece of history in the area. Glad we took our time and savored the panels.

This was a fun walk that showed the history of the city. The artwork is great and was originally done by Robert Dafford, it's all taken care of by volunteers now who keep it looking vibrant. At the end of the Murals is an old steam locomotive that is a great photo op area.

Interesting panoramic showing the history of the area now known as Paducah Kentucky starting at the time of the Native Americans. Serene and relaxing walk, just don't go if it is very hot and humid. Picture of me is on the other side of the floodwall, how nice for those of us arriving via the Ohio River.

The flood wall in Paducah, KY is an interesting walk down memory lane. The paintings are superb and the downtown area is an excellent place to spend an afternoon.

We spent a weekend in Paducah and some friends took us around town and these murals were amazing to see. Don't miss!

I walked the flood wall mural while my wife was at the Quilt Museum. Tells via the murals of Paducah’s rich history. Took my wife by in the truck later so she could see it. I also bought a nice paper back book with all the murals and explanations. Don’t miss this if you visit Paducah.

We have been visiting these incredible artistic glimpses into Paducah’s history for over a decade and our latest visit was no exception. Worth, having lunch downtown Paducah and walk along the murals on the flood wall.

A must see! The murals are so realistic. The attention to detail is amazing! This is one of those sights that you can visit repeatedly, and see a new detail each time! A must see when you are in Paducah

These lovely murals tell a wonderful story of the area. There is an informative plaque at each mural to explain what you are looking at. The attention to detail is remarkable.

In one word beautiful, what a nice surprise whe we got close to the venue, this beautiful wall with the history describing the different phases of life on the Ohio river.

There is a lot of history in the murals and plaques by the Riverfront. A really peaceful area. We enjoyed walking thru the murals, such talent! Quite interesting!
Plaques are also by the nearby streets
There was ample parking by the Riverfront, also. There were a few vendors selling their wares on a Sunday evening.
We enjoyed walking thru the Riverfront District, we ended up having dinner at one of the establishments.
This is our second time we have visited.

It was a wonderful idea to cover a lond ugly flood wall with excellent artwork. What a difference this has made to the river area. It must be great to walk in this area at night.

Right on the riverfront, the Floodwall Murals are both easy to get to and easy to enjoy. The numerous murals depict different time periods and different aspects of Paducah, KY. Young and old alike can enjoy the artwork as well as the opportunity to soak up historical facts. From the Floodwall Murals, you can walk to several other points of interest, such as the National Quilt Museum, downtown Paducah, and the riverfront. Definitely worth a stop if you are passing by this small, but adorable, downtown.

Not solo but with my sister. We were going to the quilt museum. Arrived early and saw this amazing display on the flood wall. Paintings and plaques telling the story of Paducah. Plus a steam train! Across the street is a small river museum. All alongside the river.

Such a beautiful place to explore and enjoy! Walking along the wall was like walking back in time. A piece of history goes with each mural. The wall tells a story of the city. Very close to all the fun shops and restaurants.

Beautiful way to decorate a floodwall. The murals were fun to look at and beautiful. The history of the walls was very interesting. It made the downtown Paducah area!

This flood wall was created after a massive flood devastated downtown Paducah. The panels have been painted with several murals showing the history of the area and are very well done. It was quiet the day we visited and gorgeous weather. The view of the convergence of the Ohio and Tennessee rivers was stunning. We love history so truly enjoyed taking time to look at each mural and read the accompanying explanations. Lovely.

The 24 murals display Paducah's rich and vibrant river history and are displayed chronologically beginning with the early native Indian heritage to present-day river activities. They are exceptional and should not be missed. You can also walk along the Riverfront and watched barges and tug boats still working to deliver goods along the 2 Rivers.

Murals, mostly historic, are lined up along the riverbank a for viewing. This is a nice spot for walking and learning the history of Paducah and the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Its near the waterfront so you could combine this with waterfront and historical district. I think it will take you maxium of 10 min to walk by the murials and take pictures.

Paducah needs a wall to prevent flooding. This could have been a big ugly wall, but instead they filled it with murals depicting the area's history. You can drive by for a quick view or can spend a lazy afternoon wandering past them, studying them, and reading the stories behind the murals. I wish we had had more time to spend with them. The murals are in great condition, the colors are vibrant, and the stories are varied. A fun way to walk (or stroll) off the calories after a meal at one of Paducah's great restaurants.

So build a wall to keep the water from rising and destroying the town and have murals painted on it! Brilliant! Absolutely LOVED it! We were on a bus, so I was not able to spend as much time as I would have liked. I WILL be back!

Floodwall panels painted with murals depicting highlights and events that occurred throughout history in Paducah. Numerous murals on almost the entire length of the flood wall with plaques in front of each one explain the historical significance. A nice walk and history lesson.

Very nicely done. A comprehensive history of the area presented in a mural format. Worth the walk. Each painting has a large plaque in front with a clear explanation of the murals.

We enjoy mural, travel a lot and make an effort to see murals wherever we go.
These are outstanding. They are large. You can get up close. And each one has a short story explanation about what it depicts. Very interesting. There is a small street with nice little restaurants about a block away.

I was surprised at the quality of the sea wall artwork. Great portrayal of the history of the area. It’s located in the historic area of Paducah. Easy to find. Definitely take the time to check it out.

So great to see the ancient peoples and First Nation people in these murals. What history in this region!

I grew up with stories from my grandfather during the great flood when he was a child. He was sent to the store for bread and was almost washed away when a stranger pulled him back up onto the store porch. He came home with a soaking wet loaf of bread. His mother was upset until the water started coming towards the house. The water eventually covered the entire house except the roof. The murals mean everything to our family as they are a living story of the past and a past that is so close to our family. They are beautiful to see and walk by, they tell an amazing story. Thank you

Very interesting history in those paintings. Great work of the artists that did the work. Downtown Paducah has lots of restaurants and museums to visit.

The time we went it was super flooded but it was still fun! When we got there it was past five all the shops were closed and that was a bummer and the thing we could really do was the floodwall murals.

Nice pictorial history of river area. Nothing outstanding, but charming and a nice addition to an area that is worth exploring.

The artwork is exceptional, the stories the murals tell are unforgettable, and I bet you take a photo or two of the walls.

I really enjoyed these murals & the story they tell about the history of Paducah. The passenger ship, one of the Duchesses, had arrived shortly before I got there. Several of those folks were viewing the murals & offering comment. The murals each have plaques in front that explain story of the picture. These are well worth seeing, if you like this kind of historical, artistic thing.

Always neat to check out the murals of the history of Paducah and see the flood walls. The Ohio river was flooded. Springtime! Worth a stop!

Beautifully painted murals line the floodwalls. Great for a slow walk with a good cup of coffee and time to relax and enjoy. There's no charge to look, and it's very peaceful and contemplative. Lots of information to absorb.

This is a nice downtown attraction for FREE. It shows the history of Paducah through murals. They are so well designed it feels like you are stepping back in time and many of the murals seem to be happening in real time. Excellent Paintings. Only one wish that these were in historical order as they are not chronological.

We were pressed for time so we didn't get to see it all, we just saw it from our vehicle as we drove by.

Murals were viewed from the car this day. We drove through the wall to see the rivers. The murals tell the story of Paducah. I am sure on a pretty day this riverfront may be busy.

I went up to Paducah with a friend from Nashville and we were both impressed with the murals and the detail in the each one.

It is well worth the time to go see these murals. You can drive by to see them, but it much better to take a stroll and examine them in more detail.

It was a beautiful day and we were driving halfway across the country. Stopped here to stretch our legs and looked at this site to find something to do. Paducah has a quaint downtown area that is near the water with these large murals along the coast. There were a lot of murals! Thee seemed to be no rhyme or reason for what was where, it was just okay to us.

The riverfront is lovely. We walked along the wall looked at the murals. They are somthing to see along with the riverfront area.

What a neat idea to dress up a flood wall. The mural's tell the history of Paducah and are in excellent condition. One of the local's said a group of artists come in and touch them up about every year, and it shows. Just a really nice display to photograph.

This is history in art form. The Floodwall Mural is a beautiful depiction of Paducah’s history. While you’re there, walk through the wall and take in the expanse of the rivers.

Another must see if you are traveling to Paducah KY. very enteresting to see very Historial. Beautiful paintwork, it took along time to paint.

First stop was in Paduka KY to see the flood wall murals. These are really cool...especially for an arts person like myself. Each one looks like it is framed, but it’s actually part of the painting. It was pretty cold this morning and the flood gates were closed because of the high river levels and the threat of flooding. I can only hope these walls are actually built strong enough to support the water if it gets that high because risky any damage to these paintings would be devastating. If you are ever through or near, say within and hours drive of Paduka, you have to stop and see these paintings!

What a great place to just hang out and enjoy the views of the Mississippi River, stroll all the murals. Watch people come and go and enjoy life's little things. A lot of talent it took to paint these murals.

Take a minute and walk along the water. Admire the waterfront and these murals! Worth every minute! Make sure that you read the info panels as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed the murals that are right by the river walk. It was a very pleasant experience and a must do if you are in Paducah. Highly recommend.

The portrayals of Paducah history comes to life on these factual floodwall gates.
Absolutely worth the walk downtown to the river to view this. Such wonderful art!

The floodwall murals are beautiful and I love that each one had a plaque to go along with it to explain the history of the scene being portrayed. My kids (6 & 9) also enjoyed looking at the murals. The big hit was the old train at the end of the walk. We also went behind the wall and walked along the river. Beautiful place to explore in downtown Paducah.

Murals from The Mississippi River Tales 18,000 square feet of the 15-foot high downtown floodwall in Cape Girardeau. So much history in the towns that reside on the Mississippi. Many focus on the history as well as the famous people from Missouri. Totally worth your time and a visit.

This series of murals extends over 500 feet and represents a graphic history of the region, and Paducah in particular. You will find vignettes of important historical events, portraits of famous people (politicians, writers, soldiers, diplomats, scientists, etc.). The murals were made by a New Orleans artist, who returns periodically to restore or retouch his masterpieces.

The Paducah flood wall was built after the devastating flood of 1937 In which some 27,000 citizens had to be evacuated. The flood reached its highest point on February 2. Nearly ninety-five percent of Paducah was submerged as water levels swelled to 60.8 feet. The floodwall was constructed between August 1939 and July 1949 and stands at 14 feet which is 3 feet higher that the 1937 record flood. Since completion the flood wall has protected Paducah numerous times with the second highest flood at Paducah of 55.03 ft on May 5, 2011.
Renowned artist Robert Dafford has transformed this concrete wall into a beautiful collection of murals that show Paducah's rich history in lifesized paintings. These panoramic "Portraits of Paducah's Past" bring to life the story of Paducah in color and imagery in a way that must be seen to appreciate. You can walk along the flood wall and view each mural at your leisure.

It was fun to read about the history of Paducah. There was live music out by the riverfront. The murals are very well done. We also liked walking around downtown seeing the cobblestone/brick streets.

Great historical pictures of Paducah through the ages. Nice walk, but can be viewed by car. American Queed riverboat docks nearby. Can easily see across river to Illinois.

A weekend away lead us to Paducah. The river front and murals were incredible. Such talent. A great evening walk.

Very well-done murals providing interesting information on the history of the area. We enjoyed walking the length of the wall to see each section.

Visiting Paducah in early September I was interested in seeing these murals I had heard about 30 years earlier from a co-worker. The murals are painted on the town side of the flood walls erected after the 1937 flood that devastated the area. These walls are about 10 feet high and go on for about 1/4 mile. The wall actually goes for about ten miles on the riverfront. Paducah was originally started by William Clark of Lewis and Clark fame. He inherited the land from his brother, who had bought the 37000 acres for $5.00. The Trail of Tears came through Paducah and was an important point for river traffic settling the west. Paducah has had a history of manufacturing for the railroads as well as river tugboats, many of which are still serviced in the area. It is free and the park on the other side, sloping to the river is quite enjoyable.

The flood wall was an excellent place to put 50 murals. They cover the river, native Americans and other subjects. Right behind the murals is the river walk. They are close to historic downtown. Good parking across the street. There are restaurants close. At one end there is a train museum and at the other a restroom area and the National Quilt museum

The flood wall murals are great. The wall has a lot of Paducahs history painted on it. The paintings have been done by several different artists but they all keep the style.

This was very unique. Enjoyed the murals and a walk on the riverfront. Did not imagine it would have such interesting history since we are not from Kentucky. If you’re in Paducah, make sure to see this.

We really enjoyed visiting these murals and were impressed by their upkeep and the signs explaining their meaning. A nice sidewalk took you past most of them. A few at the beginning required you to stand in a rather busy street to get close.

It brings color and history to Paducah, KY downtown. It also show great artistic work!! It makes you want take long walks down the wall and look at the creative design while relaxing at the water front or at the many restaurants and shopping places.

The murals on the floodwall tell a short story of the things that make Paducah unique. From her founding up to the current river industry. The art work is the best. The plaques at the foot of each mural tell the story and give you an insight as to why the mural is important to the city. It's nice to go during the day, but even better at night during a romantic walk.

My 9yr old and I enjoyed reading each and every one of the plaques that accompany the murals while we were waiting for the quilt museum to open. It was very educational and especially for her because she’d been studying Lewis & Clark at school. The artwork is beautiful.

The floodwalls are necessary to keep the town of Paducah safe. We spoke to a Paducah city ambassador while we were there and he had indicated that the floodwalls were needed just this year to keep the river from invading the downtown area. Also located on the floodwalls is the measurements of each big flood level. Measuring years high level marks. We thought that was interesting.
The exterior of the floodwalls have many artistic depictions of early historical events that took place along these banks here at Paducah. They showed the evolution of the area throughout this areas growth into the interesting river city it is now. Below each mural is a marker telling the story that is represented in the picture.
The murals stretch down the downtown area to the Iron Horse train. We walked the length of the murals reading the correlating stories. It was an informative and interesting (albeit hot - temp in the 90's for our visit). Definitely get out of your car to take these murals in. We had driven by them multiple times but decided to get out and take them in on our latest visit to Paducah.

One of the amazing things about this outdoor art story is that the murals are maintained to repair any of the ravages of age and weather. The pride that Paducah takes in the floodwall murals really shines through. It's nice to have sidewalks right along the wall to get an up-close look. But, if you don't have time or inclination to walk, you can still appreciate them by driving along the one-way brick street they face ... where everyone expects you to drive slowly and "gawk!"

Didn't know a thing about Paducah, but I read about the Greenway Trail in a tourist brochure, so we made it a stop on a road trip. Parked at Stuart Nelson Park and rode the scenic trail into town. We were met at the murals by some super-friendly members of the Paducah Hospitality Association, who pointed us toward a much-needed coffee. An artist was painting a new mural, which was fun to see. This town is a gem!

Marvelously done and so incredibly created by some extremely talented people!
We were very pleased with this wonderful artwork and wish more public spaces were available and offered for use in our city and rural areas.
Perhaps other places will find some similar success jjust like the Quilts on the Barns arts of which are seen on barns across our country!
Beautiful!

Whether you drive by or walk to the river the murals are an eye catching experience. Great history lessons for adults and children.

We always drive past these. They are always a bit kitchen but we go anyway. You will be downtown anyway.

We loved learning about the history of Paducah through the beauty of the floodwalls. We learned things about Paducah that we would not have otherwise known and the artwork on the murals is beautiful.

It was well worth the visit. The historic district was amazing. Will be back again. Several great places to eat in that area. I love museums and there are several within walking distance of the murals.

Beautiful Wall to Wall Murals. It tells the historical tales & events that occurred in Paducah, Ky. One can easily drive through it. But better if you can spare the time to walk the entire length of the side wall painted with murals. It’s a story book on the wall!

Had a very nice walk along the floodwall to learn some of the local history. Murals are very well done and the information at each one is very informative!

These murals are beautiful. It is definitely a way to make the necessary flood walls an attractive part of the river area. The murals tell the history of Paducah as well as provide aesthetics.

My husband wanted to drive through Paducah on the way to Nashville because he has a friend with relatives there. The historic part of town was DARLING and so much more wonderful than I had expected. I LOVE historic river town architecture and Paducah is being revitalized so this was a lovely surprise. We parked in the lot near the wall and even my surly teens were compelled to get out of the car for a look. The murals were detailed and simply stunning. We LOVED that every single mural had a written explanation. So, so interesting!

Love the quality of artwork on the Ohio River good wall. Such details and craftsmanship. Very educational also for those who love history.

The murals are well done, with plaques for each. This is a flood wall, with interesting engineering. The murals are in roughly time series order, and there looks to be room to expand with more.

Walking tour of murals on the flood wall in the center of Paducah. The murals tell the history of Paducah. Many places to eat or set a while at the foot of Broadway and watch boats go by on the Ohio River.

We had time before a banquet we were going to, to go see the Murals we had heard so much about. Glad we went Thursday because Friday afternoon the day of the walk- it was rainy and cold. We really enjoyed time looking at the Murals and reading the paque for each one. If you are into history- this is a must.

They were very nice. Some of them when you were looking at the you can see your self in the picture.

. . . I can't say that your eyes will bug out with delight. Having said that these murals are so interesting. They offer the history of Paducah in paintings that are vivid and beautiful. So much pride in their history and totally justified. It was COLD and still I enjoyed walking and learning. Do this if you enjoy learning about the past.

This is a living work of art undergoing revision and continuing restoration. It tells the history of Paducah.

Beautiful artwork and so well maintained for being out in the weather year round. Really cool to look through an opening and see a barge pass, Even better downtown Paducah is right there!

These murals along the River were absolutely amazing. We enjoyed walking along the murals discovering some of Paducah’s history in such a unique way.

What a pleasant surprise at the river's edge. We would have loved to spend more time, but weather was an issue.

Interesting murals along the river flood walls depicting history of the town of Paducah. Hard to image flood waters up that high.

You haven't lived until you visit Paducah, and drive by all the murals on the floodwalls. The murals are absolutely beautiful and amazing. They show so many different things many involving the riverfront, and can't be described rightfully without stopping by and looking for yourselves.

My only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend here. We took a chance on the way home from Nashville to Minnesota to pull off and grab a bite to eat. The sign said historic downtown and riverfront 4 miles. What a hidden gem! Truly historic and the murals along the river and great! Wish we would have had a full day to explore this place even more!

These murals take up about 3 blocks and show the history of Paducah on these murals. I was able to take pictures with my smart phone, and despite not being able to see well what I was taking due to glare, the pix came out remarkably well.

Seeing this only is worth the trip to Paducah. The murals are expertly painted and with a great deal of care. There are markers with each one explaining the details and historical significance. Some are very colorful and brightly painted.

Very exciting to see the progress over the years. Love the wall and the continued progress. Love the river(s), the confluence of theTennessee and Ohio Rivers. Love the "square." Love this area. So scenic.

Derailed painted panels to enjoy as you stroll along the river wall illustrating much of the colorful history of Paducah.

Must see if you are in Paducah and love history. Chronological beautiful historic murals of the area that, of which you would see in a museum. They are painted on the town side of the floodwall. After viewing the murals, you can sit on the backside of the floodwall facing the river, on picnic tables or concrete stadium style seating and have a romanticized view of the tugboats working on the river and imagine the history and what it must be like as a tugboat captain.

The floodwalls are beautifully painted. The scenes depicted all have historical significance to Paducah. Worth the time!

A great way to learn the history of Paducah, told in both pictures and plaques. Enjoy walking along the river walk and then reading the history of the area.

Paducah, KY is a very quaint town right on the river...beautiful murals and lots to see! We would recommend it and wish we would have had more time to spend there.

You can view the flood wall mural from your car or walk along it and view the Ohio River. There is parking near by the wall. It is reminiscent of the Public works murals of the 30's. It is a pleasing aesthetic way of dealing very important ugly gray flood wall. It also provides a visual history of Paducah's development as well as current culture of the developing artistic community.

This provides a look into the past. It's entertaining and people can take the kids and look back. In some of the pictures you can look at buildings behind you and see they are still standing.

We enjoyed this morning walk along the Ohio and viewing the history of Paducah in murals. It provides a welcoming break from a hectic pace of travel. Beautiful views along the river walk. It is wheelchair assessable.

The walls are amazing to look at and read the information behind each one. It’s also amazing that the waters get up that high to actually use them. It’s a nice place to just stop and watch the barges go up the river.

Learn all about the history of the area, from local celebrities to Civil War. You can do a drive by, but to read the info in front of the murals, walk along the sidewalk and stretch those legs! It is a pleasant walk!

Park in the big lot downtown and take the short walk to these murals. Each mural helps tell the story of Paducah and I could spend hours here. There's something new to see each time I look at them.
If it's a nice day out, you have to take a stroll by the Floodwall Murals. Paducah is such a quaint town with a lot of good restaurants and neat things to see. It's so worth a visit.

This is well worth the time. You can walk at your own pace. The plaques tell the history along with the murals. It took us about an hour.

So pretty, very interesting.......great way to learn some Ky history. Great stop for sure. You will want to include this as a stop.

the walls tell the history of how our city came about and what has happened over the years to the town of paducah.

We visited Paducah for the 2017 eclipse and got in to town a day early, so had time to spare and explore a bit of the city. Besides having the Quilt Museum, which we did not stop at, Paducah has an historical downtown area, the main attraction being the floodwall murals.
The murals are along the Ohio River, and are incorporated into the flood wall that was erected after the catastrophic 1937 floods. The murals depict the history of Paducah from early settlement through the 1900's, and are exceptionally well done. Public parking is abundant and free (or at least was later in the day), and many shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Be sure to look for the flood high-water marks on some of the buildings!
Being our first visit to Paducah, we were impressed with the area, and definitely recommend the floodwall murals as a great historical stop.

These murals are detailed and interesting and best experienced on foot. They depict local history and culture.

Fitting for Quilt City USA, the flood wall murals are huge depictions of Paducah history. Worth a visit if in downtown Paducah.

On a stop over in Paducah we went to look at the Floodwall murals and the river. I wasn't expecting much from photos I'd seen but they were very impressive. Scenes of recent and older historic events tell some of the story the town and the river. The marks of recent flood levels highlight the need for the flood defences, despite the river appearing benign, when we were there, and well below the level of the town.

The flood walls block what would be a spectacular view of the Ohio River, but I get it-when you see the historic photos of the massive floods that have hit Paducah in the past, well you do what you have to do. Paducah, however, has turned what could be a detriment to the community into a thing of beauty. The large panels of the huge mural highlight the history of the town and its surroundings. Plaques at the base of each section describe the various scenes as you walk along the mural. Very well done! A beautiful art piece.

These murals show the history of Paducah and the river traffic. Certainly worth a walk by or a slow drive by!

The murals are interesting. The area is fairly small, so can be walked in a short time. We had our puppy and she did fine because it wasn’t crowded. The town is small but had some cute shops.

Amazing to think that the water can rise this high! Many other attractions in the area that are all walkable, such as the National Quilt Museum and the Paducah Distillery.

I think the paintings representing more recent in time are better. But all of them are worth seeing. I took a picture of my favorite. Downtown Paducah is improving every year.

I loved the floodwall murals because not only are the murals beautiful to look at, but there are signs with pertinent historical background to give context to the art.

Great history lesson and artwork, very nice walk by the river, the old train, river city heritage museum

I stopped by here to see the Riverboat museum. It is a decent museum and worth visiting if you are in the area. The Murals are right across the street from it and paint events from the history of the area.

We went to Paducah during the Water of Life Day. I wasn’t impressed with that, but the waterwall murals and the amount of them and all of the artwork is very impressive! We grabbed a bite at Over Under, and it was good and convenient with having our dog with us.

We love the murals, they are so unique and the artist has such a flair for history. We also visited the murals in Porthsmith, OH. Take your time and look at each one, they all have a story in themselves.

Great to walk and look if you appreciate art and history. The quality of the murals are wonderful and tell a great pictorial history.

Backing up a wall where people can sit as well as walk by the Ohio River, visitors can learn a lot about Paducah just by strolling along by the murals.

As a family we really enjoyed seeing the murals and even got to watch an artist paint a new mural. Beautiful artwork!

I would suggest taking the carriage ride and they tell the history behind a lot of the pictures of the murals on the wall. In September we went and it was only $10 for a 20 minute ride.

The walk along the river could be so much nicer with a better path....but do it anyway so that you can see these murals. Awesome glimpse into the local history. Lots of restaurants nearby as well.

Lovely works of Art. Interesting how they could use the Floodwall as a Tourist Attraction. As an Art enthusiast, I was very impressed. It brings life to the City.

We drove by the flood wall murals after dark, as it was later than anticipated when we arrived back to Paducah. They were well lit, and we drove slowly down the street to enjoy viewing them from the vehicle during a slight drizzling rain.

Each mural tells a part of significant history of Paducah. Art work is colorful and inviting. It is fun to take a picture in front of a mural, looks like you were there at that time.

We stayed within a stone’s throw of the murals. This activity is rated highly among fellow travelers on Trip Advisor. SO glad we went! Beautifully done murals and great historical information on plaques below. Husband and I walked hand in hand along the flood wall and very much enjoyed the murals.
Typo on one plaque - I think should be Myrtle!!

Somebody really went to a great effort to paint all those murals. It was too hot to go from mural to mural, but if you drive slow, you can take in all of them. Impressive.

I've always liked seeing these murals while downtown. It's like looking into the past. I do wish that they'd get touched up more often though, they're starting to look a bit dated.

We walked along the murals after having dinner. Nice area, nice murals. Several informative plaques along the way, detailing some history of Paducah.

Great attraction. Covers Paducah history. Railroad engine nearby. Waterfront nearby. Antique stores nearby.

murals have been painted on the floodwalls to give some relief and depict Paducahs past,eg the confluence of its two rivers creating its important river activities , also was an important railway town amongst other things.

An opportunity to slow down and enjoy the education and history of the area at your own pace. Plus no fee! Be outside and get a feel for Paducah with outside art and easy access to the river. Children can enjoy without fear of being too close to the water. Easy time for all.

A must see of how Paducah became a great city.

Rich and relevant information!
I pretty much appreciate the extensive artwork that those gifted men have produced. Each mural represented millions of thoughts and words.

Do not miss these. They are right behind the National Quilt Museum, and the Riverboat museum is right near there too. Loved that they depict all types of scenes of river life. From the boat yards to the barges. Really well done.

Love these walls. These have alot of the maritime photos painted on them. With my family being towboaters it gives it special meaning to me. They are beautiful. Took several pictures. Awesome colors.

Having a mural artist paint scenes from Paducah's history on the panels of the flood walls was genius. Adding the descriptions of the murals on bronze plaques in front of each scenes takes it up another notch. We had a good time walking, reading and enjoying the art.

We drove into Paducah, parked the car, looked up and there it was! I never even knew these murals existed - I was so fixated on visiting the Quilt Museum. But these murals were wonderful. They depict the history of Paducah through the ages. I took photographs of almost all the murals. They are so well executed and cared for. We were in Paducah while the river had flooded so the gates were in place so we were not able to get to the Riverwalk. No problem, we will go to Paducah again. Congratulations, Paducah on a great idea, well executed.

Enjoyed the walk beside the beautifully painted murals, the history lessons and the activities on the river.

The murals extend for a couple hundred yards along the waterfront in Paducah. They are beautifully drawn and updated with new touches of paint. The national quilt museum is nearby and is worth a visit.

While driving into Paducah...decided to head first to the flood wall murals. How amazing!! Loved it so much on our way out of town after a long week end stay, we went back to take pictures. Paducah is a beautiful and wonderful get away.

We were just passing by on our way home and in looking for a restaurant, passed this wall. If you are in the area, you must go see it. Lots of work and very impressive.

Robert Dafford and crew painted over 50 murals along the flood wall. They depict an array of topics and he used real local peoples faces in the paintings. There are plaques in front of each one to describe what you are seeing. I didn't know that Paducah was once the strawberry capital of the country. Learn this and many other facts during your stroll down the riverfront. Take time to visit many unique area shops and restaurants while here.

While you're in the historic downtown area, stroll along the floor wall and take-in the giant murals on each segment. Created by Robert Dafford, the murals tell the story of Paducah's unique history.

Walk through history and see how it was. Deplicts things one doesn't even realize happened right where they are standing. Interesting to see, no matter what your age. Worth the time to get out and walk one end to the other.. suggest with friends though. Daytime fun. Visit it again and you will see something you wonder how you missed that.

Due to COVID-19 we didn’t want to leave the state of KY. So hubby had me pick a location we could spend a few days away from home. I chose Paducah because I had never been, as well as the National Quilt Museum. The river front with the flood wall murals with all the history is awesome. Makes for a great place to stroll in the evening. The added view of the river and the quaint cobblestone streets in the historic area makes this a must see.

This was so cool! It wasn't that long either! It had murals of the history of Paducah. It was very interesting and fun for all ages!
Must see stop!
What a good surprise the murals were! Very artistic and educational. One of the top 3 places to see in Paducah.
