This is a must stop. The lady at work he visitor center was so nice and so helpful. Thank you for all the advices. This made our visit in Galveston a breeze.

A quick stop at the Visitors Center gave me all the info I needed for a short stay in Galveston, including maps, brochures, etc. Also got info about free concerts and the trolley that goes along the Seawall from East Beach to 81st.

We arrived in Galveston, around Halloween - our first port of call was the information centre - it opened early and the staff gave us lots of ideas.
Plenty of ideas from staff.
There is a cute museum in the court house - no signage, so go through main door and you'll find it.
The Rosenberg Library has lots of info, including a short film about the great storm - lots to do in Galveston - stop off there first. The ferry ride is free and worth trip, too.

Best place to start your exploration of Galveston. We were able to take about a 1 hour tour of the historical area. It gave us a basic orientation from which to begin checking out the suggestions given by the Center. Besides -- do look at their building. It is beautiful architecture, We discovered this by asking for restrooms.

Located in part of an historic home, Galveston Island Visitors' Center is staffed with knowledgeable folk who can guide one to specific places of interest. Displays give information about area attractions. One can find money saving offers in the process. If you are new to Galveston Island, stop at the visitors' center early in your stay.

Needing pointers on where to find various places to visit and dine we stopped in here. This should be the first stop for any visitor and a place to return to for refining your plans. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and full of information not easily available online. The directed us on where to go, where to find parking, had maps available, and gave recommendations on where to start for the short time we had available.
We returned on another day to get clarification on where to get on the trolley and they suggested that if we had time a stop at the Bryan Museum would be a good stop. We rode both trolleys (super bargain to see a lot, cost $1 for the entire trip including a transfer to the seawall trolley). They also had coupons for attractions and restaurants.

Going here when you first get into galveston will save you money. And they are so knowledgeable. They will tell you the main saving days (when we went this time it was $30.00 each for all Moody Garden pyramids and boat.) coupons on the places you want to visit. T-shirts are $10.00.

As visitors to a new area we like to stop by the local visitors center. The Galveston visitors center is, as stated in the other review, located in part of a historic home. The other part of the historic home is an event center used for weddings and such.
As my family and I got out of our car and entered the gate to the property, an employee was showing the historic home to a potential client. Without any provocation, the city employee in a very arrogant manner, stated to my family that this part of the property was for private events only, not open to the public, and that the visitors center was located around the corner. I didn't realize it at the time but my husband and daughter were both equally taken aback as I was. We hadn't attempted to enter the historic home nor had we spoken a word to this horrible woman.
We went around the corner and entered what used to be the carriage building of the historic home. The center was busy with about 5 groups of guests in the small area at the same time. It was well stocked and we helped ourselves to the items that interested us. The 3 staff members sitting behind a desk were graciously helping a couple with information they we seeking.
The center cleared out quite a bit - I noticed a tray with donations placed on it close to the employees desk. As we were walking by the desk I expected the employee to give us a friendly greeting. No such response at all...maybe because I walked by the donation plate without stopping with my arms full of Galveston Island information? The employee coldly looked at us without a single greeting to us. Whatever the reason, my family and I couldn't leave Galveston Island fast enough. I promptly dumped all the information I had gathered from the center in the trash can and left their snooty little island without spending a single penny of my money in their community. We proceeded down to Hurricaine Henry devastated Rockport instead and were warmly greated whereever we went, happily spreading our vacation funds in an area that treated us so well. It's horrible how such a bad experience can color your view of an entire area.

This centre provided the materials that we were looking for, however, the seemly uninterested individual who manned the centre did leave us with a shake of the head.
Yes, she did answer the questions, however, she lacked any form of interest in actually sharing anthing about Galveston.

The visitors center has moved in with the chamber of commerce. New address is 2228 Mechanics. Individual was helpful and we obtained info we needed.

We got in at 9 minutes before closing and was still able to get maps and service with a smile. They have a lot of info on all the area shops and attractions. Convenient location and parking.

We drove in not having any idea what to do, they were great and helped us plan our day to the max. They let us park in their lot all day without charge. Very helpful ladies.

Stop here first to get all the 411. Maps, brochures, insider info. The people who work here will ask a few questions about what you like to do and then they will suggest activities and attractions to meet your interests. Really helped us get the most out of our stay.
