We have 8 & 9 year old boys that enjoy this type of place. They enjoy learning about the different type if snakes and the gators. They have a pool with small gators that allows them to have hands on experience. This is a outdoor place nothing fancy and not alot of shade. So keep that in mind. For our kids they love it but may not be everyones cup of tea..

We had a blast my grandbaby 3yr begged to swim with gator and enjoyed every minute we were there. Kids can swim in pool with "mouths taped shut" small gators. AWESOME> You can get lunch, icees to beat the heat or a beer. Very low key family owned up close and personal education regarding gators, snakes and turtles. Oh yes we have already been asked to go again and again everytime he thinks about it. Whole family enjoyed!

Enjoyed seeing the gators and the show. Boardwalk near the entry had broken boards and was unsafe being a trip hazard and having sharp edges. Watch your step.

Very entertaining!!! All laughs..WE ALL ENJOYED it..The ppl are very friendly. You learn all kind of info from the workers! You can feed the alligators hotdogs. Resturant has good food.

We went on a Tuesday at 10:30am. No other customers. The intern walked us around entire park giving us information/q&a at every cage. He also took out every creature he could possibly let us hold, touch, or see up close. It's still technically winter so no shows but we got was better in my option. My daughter and I had a blast and now...since we haven't yet...we have to watch the parks show, Gator 911. They did one season on CMT and A&E I think. There's no place u can interact with reptiles like this and they do rescues. I'll post a pic of an alligator with no top snout that they hand feed daily. These are also the guys that their "real" job is to take calls from people with alligators in their backyard. They go catch them. Awesome.

This was probably one of the highlights of my trip to the states this summer. It was amazing to be able to get so close to the animals and interact with them. We particularly enjoyed feeding hotdogs to the alligators! Id definitely recommend upgrading your pass so that you can get in the water with the baby gators and hold animals within the exhibit. All staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and keen to help us. Sadly, it was quiet on the day we visited so the shows weren’t running but these sounded amazing too.

Our 8 yr old boy had a great time. He learned so much and he was so excited. He said over and over how happy he was and how much fun he was having. We bought the adventure ticket so he could touch & hold a small gator and also wade in pool with gators. He also got to sit on a lg adult gators back. He dreamed about our visit there for 2 nights, sweetly smiling and talking about it in his sleep. Its been 3 days and he's still saying he wants to go back. The staff were all great and very knowledgeable. All the kids there were having a good time; the adults were too.
At times it was hard to hear the educational presentation due to some children talking and not being still & their parents weren't making them sit still and b quiet. It was rude to both the presenter and other visitors. If u bring children please make them behave. We stayed from 10:30 to 2pm. Going to Gator Country is a great way for a family to have fun together.

Well, this was not the first gator place we've visited. That being said, we wanted our 17 year old granddaughter to have the experience. Parking was confusing for our 38' motor home. But then we decided, no problem...we're here to see the gators. The first thing we saw was the show with us sitting in bleachers with a whole bunch of school kids. Being a retired teacher, I thought that was great until I saw what the show entailed. The speaker was good but the show wasn't because they had a guy inside with the oldest alligator teasing the gator by continually hitting his nose to get his to open and roar and try to grab the guy's hand. This was done over and over and over for people to see how quick the guy could get his hand out of the way and how ferocious the gator was. It got old really quickly and we thought the alligator should not have been subjected to that abuse over and over. Hey, how many shows a day does that poor gator have to put up with that? We were truly surprised that this happens in this day and age of animal care enlightenment. Then there were two other pens, one with a few young ones and another with maybe 10 adults swimming around. That was a viewing opportunity. Then there was a very small petting zoo with some chickens, ducks and a few goats. The inside had some reptiles for viewing. Just not worth the price of the admission, we thought. Much better gator places in Florida, folks.

The only suggestions I have is to make the classroom portion shorter and have the staff be more interactive with every person they see. It's not real clear where to walk or go when you first enter the facility. Also, we paid extra to pet animals and other experiences, but it seemed like we would have been able to do that with out the extra charge. Perhaps if people with green bands were identified early on, then the extra payment would have been worth it. Great time had by all! thanks!

By Christie P |

We went there a while back. I liked the fact that they were very interactive and knowledgeable. They took an alligator out for you to pet. They rescue and raise awareness.

This place was pretty cool. I DEFINITELY recommend getting an "adventure package" compared to just the general admission. It's like $10 more and you actually get to wade in a little pool with baby alligators and hold them. You also get to sit on a big one and take a pic with the package deal. I think I would have been pretty disappointed if we would have done just the general admission for $15. Don't get much for your money on that one. Except walking around a bunch of fenced in ponds and looking at gators from afar. Getting to hold the gators and let them swim around my feet made it worth wild! Would be a good place to take young kids. All in all I was pleased with Gator Country!

By Ashley C |

This place is so worth the trip. The gators are well taken care of, plentiful, and HUGE. They are knowledgeable about all the wildlife here and there's tons of walking and animals to see.
The wading with the little alligators was the coolest thing ever. My two year old fricken loved it. It was a great memory.

By Zeker213 |

Not in good shape. Very few animals in the park. Took about five minutes to walk through. The staff member doing the presentation was very nice, but 60 minutes sitting on very old picnic tables in full sun with nothing to see was not very engaging. Just not worth the drive, time or the money.

By Christie C |

I wanted to go so I could see the Gators. It was pricey to get in and not much to see really. The part of the park where you could hold the animals was ok. It's a nice thing to go see once, but not more than that.

By danjan111 |

Fun place to take the kids, but timing is everything. Right when you arrive, the kids will immediately be exposed to a host of alligators that are in a sanctuary right at the entrance of the park, so things get started quickly. The issue is that if you don't time it right, you'll either be waiting forever, or you may just turn around and leave. I'd suggest calling ahead to see when the 3 shows are that they generally host.

The shows give you more of an education on the alligators, and also has the largest alligator in captivity as one of it's residents. Again, this is a great experience for the kids, it's right off the highway, and definitely a good way to get a leg stretch in if you're in the middle of a long drive!

Took my daughter to this place to hold and feed the gator's. Upon arrival, free parking. Went inside the big green gator and paid the reg. admission price of $15/pp for 2 adults. Bought some weenies to feed the gators, bought some cracked corn to feed the ducks. Stepped out of the big green gator and immediately to our right was the duck pond. Nice group of white common ducks, mallards, and another type we didn't know the name of. That was great. Next up the "Florida gator pond" with some gators donated by the place in Florida. Next up, we watched the feeding of "Big Al - the 86 year old giant of the park" fun and fascinating. Then we went to the main building to hold some snakes, lizards and of course baby gators. Fun and informative. Lastly, we took our weenies and broke them up and fed them in their special feeding pond. Totally, a great time. Wished I had bought more weenies!!! They did have free food of the pellet variety that you could just get right out of the cooler they had. Now, I would like to address some things. I noticed at first what I thought as a place a bit run down, then I got the full story and now have a new found appreciation for what these people and these majestic animals went thru. Hurricane Harvey was devastating. We are from Houston, Texas and we can call ourselves true survivors. This place was also devastated by Hurricane Harvey, they flooded and lost most of their "gator stock" who simply swam away in the 5 feet flood waters. It has been almost a year to the day and they are working hard to get the place back in shape. They are the sweetest, kindest people who were informative, entertaining and passionate about what they do. Most of these people lost their homes to the flooding and torrential rains that come from a Hurricane. Give this place a chance. There are still folks rebuilding their own homes. The gators are beautiful, living dinosaurs and their collection of snakes, lizards, and tortoises is outstanding. We will go there again.

I just posted this on yelp but wanted to post it here too. We just moved to Beaumont and have been slowly going through the list of Beaumont Attractions. Without a doubt this has by far been our favorite thing we've done so far. In our opinion, the best 14 dollars you can spend on admission to anything in this area.

Here's why we enjoyed our visit so much
1. Background: This place has a really unique story. It was once a alligator farm that was abandoned. The owners took over in the late 1990's and have made the area a rehabilitation center and home base to their rescue center. It seems like everyone in the family helps run this place. It feels like you're going to your best friends house that happens to have a bunch of animals including racoons, snakes, gators of all ages, hedgehogs, and a giant great dane. It used to also have a restaurant but that is not there anymore (some of the other descriptions on yelp are a little outdated).

2. The Staff: It's obvious the staff at Gator Country not only takes immense pride in their jobs, but they go out of the way to make gator country a unique and personable experience. We started walking around looking at the different creatures expecting to be on our own for this part of the park. But within a minute one of the staff members was hanging out with us. He told us all about the little critters as we walked around together and even took the time to take almost every one of them so we could hold them and take pictures. Their enthusiasm for these creatures was contagious.

3. The Show: At noon, the first "show" of the day started. Here the owner presents about an hour long, extremely interactive show. It's got everything. History, Humor, education, live animals being shown to the crowd. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and has been featured on several TV shows over the years (including a new TV show that's about to come out). He creates an environment that the kids LOVE and where the audience is free to ask as many questions as they can come up with. It's such a personable experience that people actually ask questions. Really neat program

4. Big Al: after the educational show, They take you out to Big Al's pond. Big Al is one of the longest and THE Heaviest alligator in the US. he's 80 years old and works well with the owner to demonstrate some of the things he talked about in the educational show. Lasts about 30 minutes. What makes this show different from other gator shows you see on TV is they don't harass the animals. Everything is aimed toward education (which is especially important for people living in swampy east texas) and respect....you wont see them stressing the gators out or doing stupid stunts like putting their head in creature's mouth

5. Swim with gators: After seeing big Al, the staff rounds up a couple gators and tapes their mouths so guests can swim with them and or take pictures. This was incredibly exciting and fun and definitely an experience you wont get anywhere else.

We had an incredible time and will DEFINITELY be going back. Highly recommend this one to people of all ages.

Nice facility with an excellent balance of fun and education for both children and adults. Not exploitive of the animals, who appear to be well-kept and happy.

By Ron B |

This is a dedicated group that puts on a fabulous show. Alligators, snakes, turtles...we even saw a crocodile. They are also a rescue group. There are also well informed youngsters helping entertain and educate and they are very good with the guest (especially children of the guest). This is not a fancy facility but it is very practical. Great fun. Give it a try.

Watching a PBS show called Daytripper, my kids saw it and wanted to go see Big Al so there we go. When we parked outside, the place looked small to me but going in there was bigger and it's exactly what it is-Gator Country! We got there just in time for the noon presentation, I don't remember the girl's name but she did a good job. It was hot when we went so I'm glad I wore my waterproof mascara because they had the water mist on the whole time. You could stand up to move away but oh well it kept me cool as well! My 6 yr old started to get a little impatient but I think it's because she wanted to touch or hold something which at the end they did. I kept my distance from touching an alligator but now I regret it because I'm wondering how their skin feels and my kids could tell me but it's not the same. Big Al is huge, I still can get over how the girl is in shorts and barefoot calling this animal, I'd be wearing an armor suit or something! I was moving around to take pictures and heard Big Al's mouth clamp shut it was LOUD and heavy! Scary! We bought some food and fed the other alligators, went inside the restaurant which is nice, saw the snakes, bought t-shirts,they have a little playground that my daughter wanted to play there but it was too hot and I used my pretty pennies(nice shiny pennies) to put them in the machine and squish the name of the location on it for a souvenir. It's best if you call for info first before you go for show times, swimming with the gators, etc just to make sure. It's also nice you don't have to pay for parking, if you're driving by, one can stop to grab a bite to eat, you only pay for the presentations if you want to see them.

We stopped here on our way back from New Orleans just because we saw the sign. My 8 year old wanted to hold a gator and so did my husband. We were able to walk into the last show at 4pm, it was informative. You get to take pictures with a baby gator and a big snake after. You can also feed the big gators for $2 a bag. Apparently you can interact with the big ones earlier in the day (I guess we missed this). The price is right for admission $12 for adults and I think kids are $8. Not an all day thing, maybe about two hours for this stop, but worth it! Wish we could have taken a picture with a big one though!

By Bruce S |

Very interesting place where you can up close and personal with the Gators and other animals and learn about the animals there.

By Wolfpen |

On our drive from Houston to New Orleans we stopped at Gator Country to hold an alligator and grab some lunch. What originally was planned as just an hour long stop easily turned into 2 hours and we really could have stayed longer but the road was calling.

It's an easy on/off of Route 10. The people are super nice. It's small but the person giving the tour, Maria, was great. She spent extra time with the 5 of us showing us some of the alligators and turtles. You could really tell she loved her job. The food was also very good and not too expensive.

I highly recommend a stop if you find yourself in the area.

Dirty, unorganized and horrible food. Couldn't eat it.

By Mary S |

Arrived at the Gator park about one hour before the show and paid $12.00 each to walk around and look at the gators which were mostly sleeping or under the water. The cafe wasnt open so we walked around and waited. The show the guys put on was educational and explained alot about gators and snakes. They fed them chicken and had two big wild hogs thrown out in the water for them to eat on. Im sure the kids would love this place but I dont care to visit there again. Not much to see or do for the money it cost.

Took the family from Delaware to visit Gator Country in July. We had a blast! The shows are good and the exhibits are, too.

By Momof32014 |

The bridge over the gator pond needs to be replaced, but they appear to be working on it. The only thing between you and the alligators is an unlocked chain link fence and for the smaller ones inside is just a sign saying don't touch. Our 3 year old behaved but it was not without a couple of attempts to touch the raccoons that were reaching for him next to the play set. Our 8 year old was able to follow the rules and look and enjoy. You will not get any closer to an alligator than this place.

The information show was ruined for us thanks to a sacarstic intern that sat next to us kept yelling things at the presenter and teasing the young men giving the presentation in between texting on her phone. Then she looked over to us did a bow and said "your welcome" and walked off. Didn't drive 3.5 hours for that.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate what they are doing here, but I think the interns need to spend a little less time texting and staying in the a/c and a little more time working and out with the guests that are in no shade and heat to make the experience a little more informative and enjoyable.

By Kymberly F |

Great family fun! Lots of this to look at, greeting turkey was very friendly and followed to u til u got to the boardwalk. Definitely recommend

By Gertbert1 |

My husband and I went here today, we were the only people there and got a personal tour by the intern from California (so sorry, forgot your name) he was brilliant and really informed us. We loved holding the alligators and the tiny snake. What a great day out and reasonably priced.

By Kalligurl7 |

For one, this place is horribly overpriced for the lack of anything to actually do. The "shows" were so hard to understand because of the goofball that was speaking. The facility is run down and pretty disgusting. They spent all their money advertising on trucks for a show they no longer have, and no money into making it an actually pretty comfortable place to be. Never going back.

By Chris A |

Visited with our grandchildren and were blown away by the large collection of rescue alligators ! Cool and educational.. They also have a petting zoo with the cutest goats!

By MariAnna G |

I went to Gator Country with my husband. When we were walking up to the font door, Gary came running out the door (faking a skuffle with an alligator that got away and threw a stuffed alligator at me.)! I had no idea who he was, other than a staff member...but I remember saying something like "It's a good thing I took my blood pressure medicine this morning!" He got a good laugh, and I did too, after I caught my breath. LOL I thought the show was very informative and entertaining. To be able to handle the 2 snakes and see all of the Alligator's (especially Big AL) and hold the baby Gator....for $12 a person....That's what I call the most bang for your buck!!! We didn't even try the food-not what we were there for and figured it was prob more of a tourist thing anyway. Wish it had been a bit warmer and Big Al might have got out of the water a little more so we could have taken a better look at him! We were VERY THANKFUL we were not about 15 minutes later getting there, because there was the LARGEST group of "Indian-Cub Scouts" I have ever witnessed in my life that came filing in behind us. There must have been 400 kids. What a nightmare. We got the heck outta there just in time!

By CHRIS D |

Took grandkids to see the attractions ,lots of snakes ,gators and even a a pair of raccoons. The kids loved it ,very informative 30 minutes show and tell on animals and some history of how Gator Country started out.Good trip for schools .

By Tabitha W |

Not worth the time or money. Brought my family from Selmer,TN
After my husband played we took a self walk thru the tour. One gentlemen aloud my daughter to hold a snake. Then nothing. Several workers walked past us without even speaking. I understand they may have bee. Tendon to one particular alligator that just came in. But with the amount of people we seen just walking around and eating lunch. Something should have been done.

By Victor A |

The ONLY reason I was in Beaumont visiting Gator Country was because my son is working there as an intern. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The "show" they put on introducing the alligators (and crocs, caimans, snakes, etc.) is as entertaining as it is informative and the access you have to an incredible array of reptiles you can hold is amazing. And they top the whole experience off with crawfish night! I'd highly recommend Gator Country as a destination in and of itself.

By Nicholas N |

After seeing Gator 911 on AMC I had to check out Gator Country while I was visiting Houston, TX since Beaumont is about an hour away. Met with the owner and since we were the only group of people that had showed up on a Sunday we were given a private tour of the park. We were taken into the back holding areas where we got to hold a dwarf caiman, albino pythons and many other cool reptiles. Since it was December and we were wearing shorts and everyone else in Texas thinks that 60F is cold the owner figured out we were not from anywhere close. After conversation and telling him we were from Wyoming we immediately had a new friend. He was very familiar with Wyoming being that he would come up to Elk hunt. We swapped stories and it made the private tour even better. I would recommend checking out the restaurant as well. Some of the best fried food I had ever had which was not greasy or oily and not to mention the portions were more than filling.

By siberianrusky |

What a great place and great experience! This place is the real deal with staff that love the animals, are very knowledgable, and seem to enjoy what they do. The park itself is small and doesn't have the touristy vibe. Honestly, it feels like they run a rescue and let people come see what they do, which I loved. If you are looking for big time shows and multiple busy attractions, then this place isn't it. But if you love reptiles and have an interest in learning more about them, then I think you will enjoy it here. They have an informative show/talk presenting several animals and discussing them. They also have gator feeding by the staff which was really interesting. There is also gator feed that you can buy and it was so awesome to get to feed them and watch them. We have a real love of gators and learning more about them and we had a great time!

By Matt D |

I went here with my family of 5. I received a military discount which brought our admission price down to $64, which I think is a lot of money. We walked outside and saw a lot of alligators but felt like the enclosures and the park itself was kind of run down compared to what we've seen in the past. But when we came back in everything changed. It was late in the day so there was only a few other people there. The only guy working took is in a room and let my kids and wife hold a baby alligator, no extra charge like at other places. Then he walked us around the place and talked about the snakes, lizards and gators. He let my kids touch the boa he pulled out of the cage and a lizard and they got to hold some kind of small snake and another large lizard. The entire time he was talking to us about the different animals and answering questions. We really appreciated that and that time spent with him made this an excellent visit.

By Niki C |

Took the 7yo boy & we all had a blast. The people are friendly, funny, knowledgeable & helpful! We held snakes and gators, fed gators and saw lots of cool animals. Be sure to get there for one of the informational shows. Bring towel & change of clothes for kids to "swim" with a gator. Really, they just wade in and hold them, but the water is full of alligator byproduct so you'll want to clean them up. The restaurant is closed for renovations (end of Aug), but the snacks were reasonable. Was just @45 for two adults, one kid, and two bags of gator chow. Plan on 3 hours total. Also, we discovered Beaumont has some fabulous antiquing nearby if you're into that to can make the drive out there double duty!

By ron l |

We took six grand kids to Gator Country last summer and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The kids were really impressed with the handlers and with the critters. Everyone of the staff members was very outgoing and patient with not only our crew but all the other people there as well. The orientation talk at the outset of the tour engaged the children and piqued their interest in the "coming attractions".

I would recommend Gator Country to anyone who loves the outdoors and would be interested in learning more about our Southeast Texas animals.

By TWright333 |

We stopped here on our way to Galveston. I bought the adventure package for the kids and it made the trip they loved wading with the gators. The staff was very informative and did a great job explaining everything

By Craig M |

That's what my son James said. Great little park just loaded with gators and very accessible and friendly staff. Arlie, you are one crazy hombre!!!

By Cyndi B |

I really love this place they have it safe for everybody and most of all they save them from Road accidents and any stray alligator running around that might be harmed.

By Hammer2340 |

We went earlier this year and have been back 3 more times. The educational portion is the most intriguing. The staff are very knowledgeable and dedicated to conservation and knowledge.

By Sogozit |

Been here several times since he opened. Even had birthday parties there. Great reptile park, and also a great learning experience for everyone. Nice staff, and easy to find.

By nessa92957 |

We did not try the restaurant but have heard it was really good. We went to see and feed the gators took our son. He even got to hold a small one. We did check out the restaurant it was clean and smelled awesome.

By txgirl049 |

The owners Gary and Janna worked with me to rent the facility for a 3 hour private company event. Poured rain for two days prior to my event. I was worried, but the large porch was available outside the restaurant and the pavilion area was covered. A miracle happened and it quit raining an hour before the event.
A little/lot muddy (path to pavilion needs some work) but very entertaining for our family event.
Most of our employees wore mud-friendly shoes for the event.
All the families were mesmerized at "Big Al", reptile petting, and the educational show.
Kids were very excited. Good experience overall. Heard comments the food was good.

By pnkgirl27 |

I simply can not rave enough about this place and how friendly the employees and owner we met are! They made it a great experience for us by letting us hold gators and talking with us. They truly do love their animals and handle them all as if they are their children! We have been to our fair share of gator places but this is by far the most enjoyable! They do great things by helping injured and abandoned reptiles. I wish everyone had a heart like these people!

By MrJonnyU |

I found Gator Country on the map while looking for things to do between Lake Charles and Houston. It's a cool destination for a quick break off the highway. Lots of gators of all sizes to see and feed. I enjoyed feeding the tortoise some lettuce though! The 1PM or whatever presentation never really happened (which was odd), so we just hit the road. Otherwise a fun quick stop for all ages.

By Passing-Thru-on-I-10 |

We drove into Houston from Shreveport and purposely did not eat the whole way to have an appetite when we arrived here. I knew it had been some time since we had been there but when we had been the kids loved tossing fries to the gators, as did I. We showed only to be told the restaurant portion had been shut down for a couple years and now it was just an animal show.

That said, the interactions were great the last time and we all had fun. Don't open the cooler on the porch if you are faint of heart! My buddy did a couple years back and well...

We did not stay for any shows or tours as we were starving and just headed up I-10 so we could eat. I hope someone updates the description soon to clarify the is NO restaurant anymore.

A friend and I were recently on a random road trip and looked this place up because we knew we'd be driving through the area. Based on the other reviews, we almost didn't come here because it seemed like something that was geared more towards kids (and we're two girls in our early 30's). On top of that, it was a pretty rainy day, so we also wondered if that would put a damper on the outside activities. Needless to say, ignoring the other reviews and saying "screw the rain" was one of the best decisions we made!

Maybe we're both a little on the silly side, but we both had a ton of fun here. In fact, thanks to the rain, for the 1st hour and a half we were there, we were the only 2 people there besides the people that work there...so, we literally had the place to ourselves. Because of that, we got plenty of individual attention, and the guys there not only spent the whole time showing us all of the various animals, but educating us about them, taking them out to show us/let us hold them...it was awesome! Not only that, but we also got the opportunity to get a private show with "Big Al" (and the rain let up, which was great).

Something else we came to appreciate about this place: the people here care a lot about their animals. They rescue many alligators and snakes from the local area, and you can tell by how they talk about them all that these animals matter to them. That was a big + in our book.

We came here with the hope of getting the chance to hold a baby alligator, and left not only getting to do that, but hold a MUCH larger one, a huge reticulated python, watch Big Al all by ourselves, and watch Count make a pretty vertical jump to get some meat.

Make no mistake about it...this isn't a zoo, or Sea World. So if you're looking for a glossy, over-commercialized place...this isn't it. But that's why we liked it. It felt a little rugged, a little raw, simple...but very fun. So glad we visited and if I ever find myself near Beaumont, Texas again...I'll definitely go back!

We were visiting family in Port Arthur and we were looking for somethig to do. Boy are we glad we decided on this!. We did a boat tour of a swamp along with the adventure park. That was one of the most educational and fun trips ever. Our boat captian Damon Bailey was terrific. He is so knowlegable about all the wildlife. We saw lots of wild aligators, turtles, snakes, birds. I highly recommend adding the boat trip to your visit. The park is wonderful as well and all the staff is very interactive with guests. You can tell that they all have a true love for what they do. I consider this to be a not to be missed gem anytime you are traveling through South East Texas but also as a stand alone vacation. Thank you Gator Country and Damon for such a wonderful time

By Baylea P |

Me and my family go almost every year and we love the alligators even though the prices are a little high it's totally worth it !! Me and my 9 year old sister always have a blast and the staff is so friendly also the food that they serve is amazing and they have staff dressed as gators that walk around and greet people and will let the little kids take pictures with them ... If your into outdoors and gators you will love this place .

By Carol F |

Gator Country offers almost hands on experience with gators, snakes and other wild critters. It is not comfortable to visit at hot times of the year, but really best visited in the fall and winter months. Decent food is available at the poolside restaurant.

By Dream29712522048 |

This place was amazing. My girls loved getting to feed that gators and see all of the snakes. The show was definitely worth it. They feed the large gators.

Our family went during our Christmas break and the weather was cold but the young lady who was our guide was wonderful. Very informed and you could tell she loved her job.

Our grandson and his new wife had time to sightsee for half a day. They wanted to see Gator Country. It was not a pretty day, but we went anyway. They were both so excited to have the live snake wrap around their bodies. The gators were big and up close in a pen. A crazy handler even put his head in the mouth of the gator They loved every minute of it. We had to look at all of the snakes, and watch the gators eat and socialize with each other. It was the highlight of their trip to Texas from Alaska. You cannot see this just anywhere.

Felt great to learn about various reptiles. We got to hold pythons and baby gators, it was very exciting and fun.
Only con: we bought adventure pass but couldn't use it well coz we weren't provided correct information on how and where to redeem the pass.

By staandjo |

We have taken our four grandsons and they loved going into the small pond and pulling the alligator upon the bank. I think the price to go into the pond adds some more money to the total cost. I would be nice if the price to get in includes going into the alligator pond.

By Agent O |

A visit to "Gator Country" is something you will not regret. The prices were reasonable and the activities were plentiful. This place is loaded with alligators, from those just hatched to "Big Al", the largest alligator in captivity in Texas. They also have several species of large snakes and some of the bigest alligator snapping turtles I have ever seen. Gary the owner put on an amazing and very informative class about reptiles. Well worth a visit.

By Michael H |

This is a great attraction especially for kids. Lots of educational activities to help everyone understand a generally misunderstood creature.

By Norine14 |

It's not Disney World, BUT it is very cool. Up close and personal with Gators. Something to do that's different. Lots of great photo ops. My kids even wrestled with a live alligator.
Trip Advisor asks when we traveled, our date was not an option. We were there in Nov. 2004.

By Barbara H |

I love love love visiting Gator Country. I have loved alligators since I was a child. Very interesting reptiles.. My grandsons loved visiting.

By Anita O |

The summer is the time to come, but we arrived February 5 in dreary weather. No other visitors were there so we had a private tour! She was great. Explained all the baby and sick alligators. Let us hold them,,,! What a thrill. Lotsa of snakes and he,d them too. Go to this!

By Claudia H |

The show is educational and fun, they explain everything about the place. Safe for visitors, they keep the animals safe. The kids were able to touch the alligators, lizards and snakes.

By Heather C |

Took a quick weekend trip and decided to visit Gator Country. Excellent adventure for kids, mine are 12 & 10. Lots of animal interaction!!

By Erin R |

My boys and I enjoyed the park. It was a fun afternoon trip, less than a 30 minute drive. I didn't notice the restaurant. We'll try it next time. There was an awful smell due to a feeding mishap-lots of rotting turkey and fish. But we managed to ignore it for the most part. The most exciting attraction was swimming with the alligators and catching them! My biggest complaint was the prices of drinks and snacks and my boys' outrageous appetite!

By MeggQ45 |

This is a very small Gator Park - do not expect much facilities. Very basic. Has a playground for children but not much else. Gators are interesting but don't do a lot. Best to check the website for show times. We went early on a Sunday and the show did not start til 12 noon. Would be interesting to all ages but be prepared for it to be a shortish visit unless watching a show.

By CarnivoreGunter_TX |

Drive by for years. Decided to give it a try. Fun thing to hit on your bucket list. Not everyone can say the have held a baby gator

By Diana W |

I cannot say enough good things about this place. There was so much to see and do that my 5 yr old nephew was never bored. He got to feed animals in the petting zoo, feed turtles, throw food to the alligators and even wade with baby gators, which he absolutely loved. The reptile house was awesome as well. He got to hold a couple of snakes & even a Madagascar hissing coach roach 😬
All of the animals seemed to be well taken care of, which I loved.
Oh ! & the shows with Big Al & Big Tex were great as well.
I have passed this place many times off the freeway and always wondered what it was. Glad we decided to check it out.

By garygorsich |

This is a good place to go if you want to see live alligators. As far as the restaurant, that's another story. The place is family run buy a bunch of teenagers and it seems like no one in the family want's to do anything except supervise the hired help. When we went to eat the salad bar was in need of servicing and you were on your own as far as drink refills. The one waitress that wasn't part of the "Family" was being worked to death and others were just standing around badmouthing her.

By Timothy B |

We felt sorry for the Gators. I thought the people who teased, poke were cruel. We went there to see gators, but not to see abuse by the gator boys. It was expensive to take the family. I will not go back.

By Funtimestravelin |

If you want to see gators and snakes up close this is the place to go. Kids were enjoying it immensely. We missed the show but I hear it’s a fun time.

By keiganm2017 |

We had a medium size group with atleast 5 kids and we had a blast! It's something the kids haven't stopped talking about! Will definitely be back!

By Sandra B |

My husband didn’t want to visit this place. We were there 1/2 hour before closing because of traffic. The new man explained every Creature to us and answered every question. The owner actually went into the lagoon with old Tex and then with Big Al the 85 year old 13 foot alligator. He made this alligator open his mouth and snap it shut to make a noise. And it was raining hard. This place is awesome. I only wish we could have taken the boat ride. He never made us leave even though it was way past 5:00 PM. I suggest everyone visit here. It’s truly worth the time and price. I just hope you have the new man from Indiana and the owner answer your questions. They truly love their jobs. Oh yeah, I did hold an alligator. So unbelievably cool. Best part of our trip so far. Even better than Carlsbad Caverns. You all enjoy this as much as we did. My husband was indeed happy we went after all 😂

By Kaybo09 |

People that have never been around or even glanced at an alligator in person, this is a good place for them. Doesn't excite me to see a person or people mess with the alligators.

By 607kendallw |

It was an informative and fun way to spend the day. We all enjoyed it and learned a lot about their 400 alligators. Interns from all over showed us different animals during a brief show-n-tell. If you’re in Beaumont I recommend time here.

By Andrew 3 |

We paid $13 a person which is the general admission. It was well worth it. We bought hot dogs to feed the Gators and Romaine lettuce to feed the tortoises. They let you stay as long as they're open. You can listen to as many tours as you want throughout the day. You can spend as much time with the tortoises or the petting area or the reptile house any of that they offer. There's no limit to your stay for the day in terms of time. The interns are very enthusiastic and enjoy engaging with the audience. They sell fresh eggs in the gift shop (chicken).

By Paul M |

Stopped in with family and small kids, we all had a great time, even the wife who is afraid of snakes held one, the young man working their taught us a lot about the reptiles and I was able to hold a 4 foot long alligator and the kids got to hold baby gators, memories and pictures for a lifetime.

By laguerabonnie |

I often take my grandkids here but just to entrance where we can see the haters in the water,it's fun to just stop for few minutes in hopes of seeing gator

By Crystal B |

What an experience! My son loves the outdoors and animals, so this was a perfect outing. We all had a great time and loved feeding the gators!

By Doug H |

Spent a few hours here last Saturday. They let you hold many of the lizards, snakes and baby alligators! We took photos holding boas and baby gators! You can even get in the shallow water with the little alligators! They also have two of the biggest gators ever Big Al and big Tex.

By Wawbrey |

Took my 10 and 12 year old Grandsons to see the "Gators". Their smiles told the whole story the entire time we were there. From wading with the young alligators, crawling around with the turtles, feeding the big alligators, or holding a more mature alligator, they were thrilled. Great fun for Grammy and Grampy too! The staff were quite pleasant and extremely knowledgeable so we all left with considerable more knowledge about these interesting creatures. Great experience overall!

By hunter f |

My family and I are doing a 9 hour road trip. And followed the gps to the parking lot 2. Walk in and buy our ticket and everything was going okayish until the end we come out to see all of cars blocked in by heavy machinery and golf carts so we had to go back in and try to find somebody to move the stuff. I don’t even know why they thought this would be a good idea. Maybe some employee thought they were pranking another employee if something. But I did not find it to be funny with 100 degree weather but at this point we had our fill, this place is terrible. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyway go to the reptile farms in new Braunfels for a much more enriching experience. The staff was completely useless and but polite at least I guess. Eventually they sent one of the few decent employees who was kind inside but a 16 year old girl? Not sure why they sent her out to move heavy machinery and she was at least nice enough to inform us she has apparently never driven one before. Honestly the lack of responsibility and I can only assume terrible owner/management style and filthy park is honestly disgusting, makes me worried for the animals honestly. I was excited for this but kind of just left with a sour taste in my mouth.

By Jajjamejja |

We were there att opening, so not much people. The staff was very great and had time to spend with us. They told us about all the animals and let us hold a python, a couple of gators and a lizzard. Very exiting. Super memory from our road trip.

By edbson |

I went with my 14 year old daughter, and 3 year old grandson. We paid $35 to get in the park. Gator food( old roy dog food) was $2 per bag, and had about a cup in each. Drinks were $2.50 +.We spent alot of money to feed a few alligators, and see a few snakes. There is NOTHING else to do. The Restaurant is expensive, and the food is not all that good.

By 1gr8grannie |

My grandson works at Gator Country, so it's natural to take out-of-town guests there. Biology students serve as externs, learning about reptiles native to southeast Texas as well as more exotic crocodilians. The great-grandchildren were able to interact with baby alligators (snouts taped shut) for a short time. Care is taken to keep visitors and reptiles safe. Snacks, cold drinks, gift shop.

By Peggy R |

We've passed by this place for years and just couldn't imagine it being worth the time to stop, but we decided to take our 12 year old grandson who was visiting us and am happy to say, it was worth the time and money. The tour starts with a live educational presentation about alligators, turtles and snakes. The handlers do the presentation and answers questions. Next, you get to see ALL of the ponds filled with gators. You can buy food to feed them too. Plus, for a few extra $$ , you can get in the small pool WITG the baby gators (mouths are taped shut) and hold them.

By Vanndchi52 |

I was looking for a fun weekend activity and decided to give Gator Country a try.

The kids loved it! Lots of gators, extremely friendly staff, excellent food, and nice gift shop. The park presents lots of opportunities for photos, and is very educational for kids.

Quite a few birthday parties were going on, and the kids were enjoying themselves a lot.

As far as food, the kids burger was really good, as was the chicken basket. The oyster/shrimp po boy was awesome.

Can't wait to go back again!!

Oh yeah... Big Al is darn big!

By aghyba |

Went there with the family and friends with their family. Good show for the kids and adults. Second time there (summer), but seems like this time (winter) it was better informative. They know their stuff about alligators and reptiles. Kids loved the fact that they could touch the animals. Our friends and their families had a great time, worth the stop.

By YIISD |

This was my 2nd visit, my first being over 1 year ago. There are lots of alligators, but not very organized in my opinion. There is great signage for the first few gator ponds, but once you get in the snake building the signage is small if it even exists. The first time I was there, they had a show. This time you just walked around & could see the gators, etc. they offered to let you hold one & you could see them being fed if your timing is good. It’s an okay place if you’ve never seen gators before.

By Dennis L |

Fun for the family but seasonal. They have a restaurant nothing fancy. Very informative and you get to hold an alligator.

By Scott Nix |

The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable! The food is great, and I highly recommend staying for a show, or going out and feeding the alligators!

By TravelHungery |

I have to say first that we went on a cooler day . I would wait to spend your money until the summer when it will be well worth it. It was neat to see all the different snakes and gators . We were even able to hold a baby gator and pet a huge tortoise in the gift shop. A lot more going on in the summer . The best part was the owner answering all of our questions . Nice place .

By lovelizards |

We stopped by on out way home. They list being open until 5PM, we got there about 3:30-3:40 and we were told they could not let us in as they were closing early. So always call before you go. What a let down!

By tweetybirdrobin27 |

We took our 4 kids there today. I'd say it's more about the show, feeding the gators, and the restaurant. There's not much of a selection in the gift shop, and the fences don't look to sturdy. Although if they really wanted out, they would get out whether there's the fence or not. However we had a good time with the show. Those two guys made it worth it! They were very funny, interacted with the crowd, and we learned alot. I think it's a good place to visit once. Wouldn't go on a regular basis, as there's not alot to see. However the kids thought it's cool to see the guys from the Gator 911 show.. and wanted their autograph hahahaha

By LauritaQ |

It was wonderful hearing about how all of the interns and Volunteers ended up in Beaumont, Texas to care for all of these gators. This is a site not to be missed! Fun for all ages!!!

By thejohnsons556 |

We visited Gator Country this week with 3 adults, a 13 year old, and a 6 year old. Everyone in the group had a great time. The staff and interns were helpful, polite, knowledgeable, and interactive. The inside section of the park has several exhibits, clean restrooms, and a gift shop with snack and drinks along with tshirts, etc. We enjoyed the hour-ish long show. We learned quite a bit about different species as well as snakes. After the educational portion of the show you have a chance to see the alligator feeding in the large pond and Big Al, who lives up to his name! The staff welcomed any and all questions and was more than happy to teach anyone in our group more about a particular animal.

After the show, we had pre-booked a swamp tour. We drove just 10 minutes down the road to the boat launch. It was just our group on the tour. We loved getting out on the boat in the stillness of the bayou. We saw a few snakes, frogs, and a gator. The boat tour held the same friendliness, knowledge, and interaction as the park did and it made it very enjoyable.

I highly recommend taking a day to spend with the fine people at Gator Country.

By Sherry P |

kids love it so does the adults. The people that work there is so friendly and nice and caring. Kids learn alot.

By Dree411 |

When I arrived I was informed that the shows happen in the Spring/Summer, but that in the Fall/Winter you actually get to hold the animals. That was good information to find out. Definitely worth checking out in the summer. Most of the big gators were below the water as it was starting to cool off for the day. So I was a little disappointed to not see many of them. We did get to see the head of big Al, as he was hanging out at the edge of the water. It was fun to see and have the chance to hold some of the inside animals. A caution, the worker sometimes hands you an animal and then walks away. So make sure you have full confidence, and do not drop if they start wiggling or acting crazy.

By bayougirl68 |

Searching for something to do in Beaumont, my husband and I found this place. Enjoyed the experience and live what they are doing. Kids would absolutely love this. The Trainer is is crazy hilarious!

By Debducttape |

We had a great time here. Lots of gators and other critters to see. They had a nice assortment of reptiles and some really helpful people to tell you lots more about them. I would've given it five stars, but with a family of 5 at $12 per kid and $15 for adults, it seemed a little pricey. It really only took an hour to go through the whole thing. I would go back (but maybe look for coupons first)

By Shell B |

I must say this was one of the highlights of this trip! It was great to meet the Gator Boys! They really get into their show! They are friendly and really get the crowd involved! If Seeing the huge alligators and having huge snakes wrapped around your neck is your idea of fun then you will love it here! I had a blast! Learned a lot of interesting facts about gators as well!

By Elizabeth T |

We enjoyed the experience. The people there were nice. My kids enjoyed looking at all the animals. They also enjoyed the playground.

By Brittney F |

Stopped in just in time for show. It was ok, silly little scare gags & facts that most ppl probably already know. The staff was all nice. Big Al was quite impressive. Not bad, kids will like it.

By Michelle P |

My family was in Beaumont for a bowling trip last week. I was worried that it would be a boring stay. We found GATOR COUNTRY in a brochure at the hotel. And I am sure thankful that we did. The show was informative. And the gators were wonderful. Big Al is jaw dropping, and the staff is amazing. My son wants his next birthday party there, and I think we just might make the two hour drive back, just for him. Thank you guys for a wonderful weekend.

By MarfaMan |

At first pass you could write this place off as a generic roadside attraction, but you're missing out if you do. Owners are extremely knowledgeable about all things gator, and they're fierce conservationists - every gator they've rescued would not have survived without their intervention. Kids go nuts petting the baby gators; big kids go nuts seeing "Big Al" - the oldest and biggest & gnarliest gator in captivity in the state of Texas - and there's a warm spot in heaven for the Gator Country staff for giving all those rescued gators a fat & happy existence. Don't miss it.

By Kamille |

We were here March 15th and had a great time. My 7r old enjoyed every minute of it. He got to hold a baby gator and feed the bigger ones with hotdogs. The show was good. It was very informative about alligators, snapping turtles, snakes etc. We watched him wrestle a 7 foot gator . strap his mouth up and let the kids touch him. This is also home to "BIG AL" the biggest gator in captivity in Texas and Boy! is he big. It was cool to see the trainer touch him and hear all about big al's story. We had burgers and fries in the restaurant and the kids had kid meals chicken strips and fries. The kids meals were so big they would have done an adult! Both were delicious. It was lovely to sit on the big porch , eat lunch and watch the gators. My 7yr old ended up getting a cool T shirt out of the souvenir shop with "Gator handler" on the back!! Overall we had a great day and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I really do think it is value for money that you pay. I really hope people start finding out about this place and they can get more money to do more. Thanks guys for an awesome day!

By Siggy314 |

I kept seeing this place on I-10 during my travels back to TX and didnt really pay it much attention until I saw Gator 911 on CMT the first time. I knew then I had to go see Gary and the crew and the gators that have been saved. I had a great time. Gary is down to earth and knows his stuff about gators. If you have kids then this is the place to take them for a few hours. The show and presentation were educational as well as entertaining. Arlie even got a free corndog during the show. I enjoyed the opportunity I got to go inside the pen with Big Al and got some good pictures. You guys(ladies too) keep up the great work you do. I wish I could have met the entire staff but Gia had to do her service for her country the weekend I was there. I wear my Gator Country shirt proudly. See you next time I get back to Texas.

By cooklindsayn |

Gator Country was well worth the drive to Beaumont! I will definitely visit again.

The staff was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about all of the animals onsite.

In addition to alligators, Gator Country has crocodiles, caiman, snakes and lizards.

By Theresa B |

Came here for a couple hours with the family. Watched the biggest alligator show. Watched a couple of other shows. There are baby alligators in the main building along with other reptiles. $15 per adult and $12 per kid. $2.50 for a bag of feed (dog food).

By Sharonda B |

Wonderful outing for the whole family ages range from 4 to 65.(large crowd) Everybody enjoyed the alligators, reptiles. Very educational and it was fun to take pictures with the propts. Workers have a lot of knowledge about the alligators, and they love a good laugh from time to time.

By historybuff41 |

It is a few pathetic ponds with some sorry-looking alligators and apathetic student-guides. Not worth the money.

By Hal H |

Great time by all of us. When we arrived at the park, we didn't know whether to purchase just the general admission or the package. Purchased the package and the kids got to wade with and hold alligators. well worth the few extra dollars for the package, especially if there are children in your group.

By Kathryn C |

There were demonstrations with feeding the gators which were educational. When the feeding weren't taking place you can stroll through the park and see the gators at leisure. There is also a very good educational exhibit with guides who can answer questions.

By adventurers34ft |

Super redneck atmosphere. Entertaining & very educational. The people there love what they do & love their animals.

By aabocha |

Lived in Beaumont for ten years before I went there. I wish I didn't before.
Very kids friendly entertainment
Fun safe and unusual
Lots of surprises in their shows.
Good for ever age.

By Robert Bailey |

It is always pleasurable visiting Gator Country and you can even enjoy a good meal. The staff is good at giving tours but some of the male employees seem somewhat arrogant at times. I've been here with my family several times and they have not changed.

I would recommend to take the kids, but just ignore some the staff when they try to show off.

By Shimbe22 |

This was actually a lot of fun! Everybody enjoy
ed seeing the gators. The day we were there, they caught and released the longest gator in Texas history! Fascinating!

By Colyn B |

We had visited here about 8 yrs ago and decided to check out how it changed. I was kind of disappointed personally, but my 13 year old son really enjoyed it. We paid extra for him to wade in the pool with the baby alligators (mouths taped shut no danger). He also got to hold a couple of snakes. They gave a small informative presentation then we watched them feed the two big alligators.

By judmunamaste |

Capt. Bill was a great guide and knew so much. It did not disappoint as we saw gators, eagles and other bird varieties.

By LE0788 |

Whilst travelling to Lake Charles we came across Gator County home to 100s of Gators. The very in size to include Big Al who is HUGE. There is an inside area where the staff are so hands on and show you a number of snakes and baby gators. My toddler held a gator - lovely memories made! Thank you.

By sshouseholder |

Right as we were pulling into Gator Country we popped a tire. Within minutes, Gary himself was helping us put our spare on (of course we had no tools with us 🙈)! Anyway, NICEST people ever and such a cool trip! Be sure to hold a baby gator! Thank you, Gary!!

By cani2018 |

Very interesting to see and learn about the alligators and all of the other animals. Staff was great at conveying the information

By Shelley C |

This may have been the highlight of our trip to Galveston. My 4 YO granddaughter loves alligators but had never actually seen one. We fed everything. We petted everything. We fed a lot of hotdogs to some very powerful alligators. We laughed a lot. Great seating area to grab a bite and watch the kiddo play games. Staff was EXCELLENT. Great nonprofit mission. Very well worth the drive, time, and money.

By gpompei |

Professional and informative! Our tour guide Blake was very knowledgeable about the reptiles; sharing their unique stories and traits. He park has many alligators of all sizes in a clean, professional and safe environment for the animals and the visitors. Along with alligators they also have a separate reptile exhibit with a large selection of snakes, lizards, tarantulas and tortoises. The facilities let you get really close to the animals. Most of the alligators are rescues from the wild including some enormous 10-13 footers named Tex, Allie and Kong. You can purchase snacks such as pellets and weenies to feed the gators and lettuce for the tortoises. They come right up to you! This is a professional, safe and clean facility.

By Andy H |

The entire staff is very informative and knows their gators. We love to hold Chubs. Big Al, really is bIG.

By txboypride24 |

So Gator Country in Beaumont, TX was a very good place to stop on a whim. I planned the trip for a weekend getaway and Gator Country was on the list. It was small but the staff was friendly and as expected very knowledgeable. I truly had a great time, just was hoping for it to be a bit larger.

By Nancy K |

We went on a whim after visiting Spindletop. Weren't sure it would be worth it when we turned in, seemed run down, drive in full of potholes. Then when we found out the price $15, thought it seemed high for what we had seen while walking in. Decided to do it just because it was something we had never done living in MI. Our guide, Heather, was an intern and very knowledgeable and friendly. Learned so much from her about each animal, mostly snakes and reptiles. It would definitely be a good place to come with kids who don't live in "Gator Country". I then learned that the interns do not get paid, they get room and board and free wifi, live off their tips so please keep this in mind. If yours is good, slip them an extra tip personally instead of tipping when you buy your ticket.

By vision_quest61 |

I had driven by so many times without stopping but when we have visitors from out of town and looking for something unusual we thought of "that place near Beaumont that has gators". What a great idea and wished we would have gone sooner. We were a group of 2 adult couples and arrived and met Ryan who took us on the tour of the grounds. He was informative and you could tell he loved what he was doing. Ryan let us hold snakes, gators and gave us a tour of the ground. The wives were standing a few feet away when we were allowed to handle the critters but let us hold them and explaining the animals throughout our time at Gator Country. I would recommend this stop to all ages. Great tour and thumbs up to Ryan!

By Greg E |

We had a great time. The kids really enjoyed getting in the pool to handle the baby gators. The snake roundup was pretty interesting too.

By cdb4572017 |

This place provides an unusual educational experience. The owner is extremely passionate about these animals and lives to pass on his knowledge. A must see while in the area.

By carol6880 |

Not for me, just seemed dull. They have a nice restaruant
with good food, but a little high.

By Jean P |

Gator Country is a Main Stay attraction to the golden triangle. Kids from every age are in awe of the different sizes of gators and other animals to see. Our grandsons visit from out of state and always are ready to go see and feed the gators..

By Robert |

Had a good time checking out the place. The kids had a lot of fun. Lots of different size gators and you can buy food and feed them. They also had different reptiles housed inside to see. Cool place.

By Kyle A |

We enjoyed the Gator Country. The host was extremely knowledgeable about these massive creatures and does a great introduction prior to walking about the premises. We purchased the package so my daughters could swim with the alligators and they sure did have fun. You get to swim around and try to catch baby alligators (2' ish) and they had a blast doing it. Seeing all the alligators was crazy as there are hundreds here. Don't forget to stop by and see big Al. That dude is HUGE.

By JMurray71 |

My daughter and I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon and loved it. The place was friendly and not overcrowded. The staff was very helpful and hands-on. I think it was $15 per person but we bought the upgraded package for $20 each. You get a bag of Gator Food and you are off to feed the gators at will. The upgraded package allows you to hold a 5 foot Gator and wade with 4 young ones from 2-3 feet long and catch them. (Their mouths are taped shut for safety.) Then there is a bit of a show with Big Al and Tex!

By lilypad000 |

Gator Country is a fun thing to do, for kids and grown-ups. The inexpensive restaurant offers basics such as hamburgers, fried fish, etc. The shows are interactive and entertaining, with enthusiastic presenters. I like Gator Country's philosophy that gators are here to co-exist with, not just to be hunted and poached relentlessly. These creatures are to be admired, and Gator Country does a great job helping to teach this lesson.

By Lisa F |

My son's class had a field trip to Gator Country...........They did a fantastic job with all the kids........The kids all held a Gator, a snake and watched Gator feeding time.......The show they put on was informative and entertaining.........Good time was had by all!

By HoHo1945 |

My wife and I recently took our grandson to Gator Country. The price was reasonable and it was lots of fun! We were a little disappointed that the restaurant was no longer open, but the educational presentation was excellent. The tour of the "farm" was interesting and my grandson was really impressed with 'Big Al', the giant Alpha gator! The kids loved the chance to wade with the baby gator,(his mouth was taped for safety purposes!), and some of them even held the small gator. One of the highlights was a chance to feed the gators. Don't fall for the "FREE" gator food box, I did and I should have known better! Over all, it was a very affordable and educational venture and was lots of fun!

By gfh77665 |

Tired of the "same old same" things entertainment wise? Then by all means GO out to Gator Country. Especially if you are an out of town visitor, go here and see something here you will not find back home. Don't miss this!

By Kevin McBeth |

This place is a blast. The owners are personable and accommodating. You can tell they truly love taking care of alligators. I went during the winter, so they couldn't do the normal outdoor show, but that also means the tour group was much smaller and we got much more personalized attention. We got to hold a variety of alligators, including Spooner, who was probably about four feet long. I'm definitely going back next summer to catch the show.

By Cathy T |

Never been to an attraction like this. Served its purpose. We were entertained and educated. Would definitely recommend everyone visit a place like this at least once. Even my dog got to come along, she LOVED all the unusual sights and smells.

By Kelly Peyton |

I took my son here because he really wanted to see the Gators. He's 24 so not at all a kid! They have interns from all over the nation to work here for the animal experience. They don't get paid but get room and some meals. They really rely on tips for money. I felt bad I didn't have more cash on me as the gal who showed us around was super fun and knew all about the gators and other cool snakes and lizards she showed us. Very hands on experience! We stayed there for 2 hours. It was really interesting. Perfect outing any day. We went in the rain and still had a great time.

Our family really enjoyed our time and tour here. A nice educational show, featuring the owner--who is Hoot!-- and the Interns--who he affectionately calls "The Nerds." Interactive Shows, handling of Baby Alligators, Reptile Displays, time to see Big Al (the Patriarch Alligator) at 86 years young, and Big Tex, largest Alligator sever caught in the Wild. And, well, Alligators Alligators, Alligators. Fun for the whole family.

Great place to take the kids, eat lunch, see the gators and have a cold beer.

This is a great place to see gators. My daughter loves it so much this was our 3rd time to go back. You can feed the gators and swim with the baby gators (both cost extra) You can hold the animals inside the reptile room. Nice & friendly staff.

By WorldTex60 |

This live animal experience is educational on reptiles for the entire family. You get to see gators up close and actually touch and swim with small ones in a pool if you want to do that. And their are other reptiles such as snakes that you learn about and get to touch. There are several ponds with boardwalks where you can see the animals in a natural environment. And movies about how they rescue animals and give them a home.

My husband & I went to Gator Country on 9/23/13 and it was awesome! We enjoyed the tour of all the reptiles, held baby gators, and saw Big Al! Very friendly staff & lots of information on all their animals. If you are in the Beaumont, TX area.... GO TO GATOR COUNTRY!

By Walter S |

Well Worth it! The young staff were eager to help and answer questions. We will be back! The kids had a blast

By jessicashsu |

My family and I came on 2/25/12. My toddler enjoyed holding the baby alligator. That was the good part of our visit. The show is interesting, but not worth the price. The food is overpriced, too. I would only come back if admission and food were half off.

By Lloyd W |

First off, the staff at Gator Country LOVE what they do, and are passionate about educating the public about these awesome creatures! They make their presentations fun for the kids, but not too silly so the adults don't enjoy them as well. If you get the chance, make sure you ask to hold one of the hatchlings... it's amazing to hold in your hand, what will grow up to be such a giant! I would definitely recommend a stop at Gator Country!

My son (7) and I randomly stopped on the way home from Louisiana on a Sunday afternoon. So happy we did!! Arlie and his staff were amazing - high energy, very informative, great with kids and adults alike, and you can tell they really love the animals and want the best for them. We were able to hold a huge snake (and for somebody with a huge fear of them, they made me comfortable enough to do it!) as did my son. We also were able to get into a small wading pool with small gators (mouths taped shut) and hold them and see them super close up. We will absolutely go back and have already recommended it to our friends.

I love this place so much because I came to this Cousin Ashley Turned and My Aunt Sandra and My Sister and my Nephew and Second Cousins

By Dens_lady |

We chose an off-time on a Sunday afternoon. There were very few cars in the parking lot....very few people dining.
We came to the 'Hostess' station and stood a very long time with no one acknowledging our existence. I finally walked to where I could see the window of the kitchen and called out someone to assist us. We were seated, then nothing. No waitress, no drink order, no menus, nothing! We sat for another long time. We made noise thinking someone would remember they sat us there! No response. A man came near where we were seeing, but didn't acknowledge us. I asked him if he could check on our waitress to see what had happened to her. Finally, our waitress came skipping around the other side of the wall as if nothing had happened! She finally got all of our orders, but we weren't overly confident that we would get some food.
Order was slow. Food was unimpressive..It was a pretty bad dining experience....but I must say that the children that were having a birthday party on the porch seemed to be having a great time...maybe it was because the Mom brought the cake (like bringing your own food, jet in case)
Again my question..How Do They Remain in Business?

I am a zoo fan and saw this location driving down I-10 and thought we would give it a shot in the hopes of seeing some great animals. All I can say is this may very well be the worst animal facility I have ever visited. I'm not sure how they manage to stay out of trouble with various wildlife groups as when I was there the fences where in disrepair but that isn't my largest issue with the place. They where actually selling hot dogs to feed to the alligators and also feeding dog food. This practice in a professional facility is appalling when so many better options exist. In addition they had a pool with small to mid-sized alligators in it that you could 'swim' with while visiting. I truly felt sorry for these animals while they where chased and handled by person after person during the duration of our visit. So many better options exist than this roadside stop that I would suggest passing it by and stopping at a higher quality park.

We were the first ones there June 5th 2014. Admission is a bit much but it's okay because it feeds the animals. Our guide was Christina. She knows her stuff. We got to touch a few animals. The thing we liked the most was the little show with big Al.. Some guy would make Big Al snap his mouth..it was really cool. My little boys face was priceless. After the tour we just walked around feeding the alligators. .....they all start coming towards you when you throw the food... went to gift shop.. shirts are $20 adults and kids.. Overall I liked it.

I came back in the afternoon with my daughter ...it was a bit different in the afternoon. . It was like 4:30 or so... Their website says that starting June hours are 10-6pm so I went thinking it was more than enough time. When we get there I am told they will be closing at 5pm. I tell them what their website says. They kept telling me they close at 5 and that they been closing at 5. Again I tell them that their website says that starting June they close at 6. I never got an answer regarding that. I just said it was fine. Our second guide was informative but not like our first. Out first guide will take us to the next exhibit while our second would ask us what we wanted to see next. We went straight to big Al. He managed to get him out and snap his mouth. Loved it like the first time. My daughter was scared of the alligators so it wasn't a big deal. We went back to the baby alligators and my daughter finally touched it. She wanted to take him home :-)

Overall I really enjoyed both my visits.
Oh and when I called before I went the second time the guy that answerd the phone made my chuckle :-)

He answered the phone by saying "thank you for calling so and so what's your favorite color? Lol I sort of froze and said "excuse me but right away I said Orange. :-)

We stopped by Gator Country on our way from New Orleans on the spur of the moment. This is a true labor of love, these folks are always on call to rescue any gator anytime anywhere. We were able to see the biggest and oldest gator in Texas. Big Al looks as if he rules the area very well. We would recommend this attraction to everyone. They do shows that are very educational as well as entertaining. We spoke to some of the interns who were learning how to do gator rescue, they were very informative. From the baby gators, reptiles, holding a 4 foot gator, watching the men catch and secure a gator for safe transport all of the events were great. Stop by, it's well worth the entry fee. Just remember this is a rescue, no kill attraction. They can use all the donations they can get I'm sure.

By Kay |

Although this may be most enjoyable for kids, my husband and I enjoyed it. We saw the show at noon. It was informative and entertaining, be sure to attend the show or it isn't worth the admission price. I was worried about seeing animals not cared for properly but did not find that to be the case. There was a larger staff than I expected and they were all knowledgeable and friendly.

By Sharon S |

My family and I enjoyed the educational program offerred there. It was intended to be fun and fact filled. I think the knowledge I got serves me well as a resident of Texas living on Cow Bayou where the alligators and snakes are plenty.

By Gerald Williams |

I believe the restaurant is now closed but the park is open. The tour is relatively short but educational. Guides are very knowledgable and professional.

We decided as part of our road trip up the gulf coast we had to go to Gator Country, and glad we did. We learned something new and had a great time doing it! The interns were all funny. We got there early and got a personal indoor tour from one of the interns, he was very knowledgeable and loved his job and those critters! Everyone working there wanted to make sure we had a great time from the ticket taker to the interns, and gator handlers everyone was great! It was one of the highlights of our trip, so glad we took the time to stay a few hours. At first we were just going to look around and head back on the road, but once we got in and started looking at the snakes, tortoises, baby gators we had to stay for the educational presentation and "BIG AL" show. We could have swam with the gators if we wanted to dig out our swim suites but they were all packed in the trunk....lucky me! If you have never been there, I would strongly urge you to go at least once and make sure you go early when it's cooler as it warms up the gators don't want to move about too much. Kinda like Humans! We stayed 3 hours and did not swim so if you plan on swimming with the gators it would take a bit longer, the educational presentation is an hour in itself. So you can see there is plenty to look at, if you have an intern with you can hold some of those critters that you would never probably get to hold any other time.

Charming Bride had the intent of seeing an alligator. We toured east of the Sabine Pass, north to Lake Charles, and back to Port Arthur, sadly no critters appeared. The next best tactic to was search the internet and find an attraction that was nearby. Luckily for us, Gator Country was almost in our back yard. Using one of the internet map services we drove right up to the place and walked in.
The visitor area was rustic, and to get to it you have to walk by a pair of ponds that have, well, alligators in them. I was concerned that the critters were going to be mistreated or abused, and at no time did I feel that the turtles, snakes, and a variety of alligator critters were in any way suffering by any measure.
I will tell you that if you think you are going to go one on one with an alligator of any size, you will, let's see, that is the word? oh yes, you would lose. and badly. These are not small creatures. The tour consisted of a walking path and boardwalk that allowed you to walk up near the ponds were the alligators lounge about. There is a "show" of sorts where the staff display small alligators and explain the various species of them around the world. It was very informative. In addition to that they discuss the local snake population, which I found very interesting and technically astute. The main attraction is a huge alligator, reported to be 82 years old. Big Al as he is known is summoned to the edge of the pond and fed tidbits. This highlights the massive jaws, formidable teeth, and the interesting skin features the creatures have, Big Al can be prompted to "snap" his jaws closed which sounds very much like someone slamming the trunk down on a 1950's Chevy, but with a slightly different outcome. You can always open the trunk and take the groceries out, I don't think that is going to be Big Al's plan for what goes down his throat.
There is a modest snack bar. There is a modest gift area. Charming Bride bought some local mixes for later consumption,
All in all, I was favorably impressed with the facility and the care paid to the animals. The staff was personable and more than willing to answer questions. For those with an adventurous spirit they will place a giant snake around your person, a great photo opportunity.

This is an unusual activity for the whole family. The kids (and adults) enjoyed feeding the gators, holding the baby gators and eating in the very good restaurant. Well worth a visit.

We visited this Father’s Day weekend after driving so many times past this place. I am so happy we finally made it in! We had two young children with us and honestly, didn’t go in thinking we’d last more than an hour, summer heat and all. We ended staying there for almost 3 hours!
The staff members were so friendly towards my kids which meant a lot! They were very knowledgeable. The restrooms were clean. The presentations were informative and funny. The building has a/c and they sell kona ice, win win. The alligator shows featured Big Al and Tex and both were just really cool to watch. You can hear when the alligators snap their mouths close. Just a very cool experience all around for the whole family!

By Erie C |

If you aren't from the South, and have never seen Alligators up close and personal,
Gator Country is an experience you won't want to miss.

By danglemoongroup |

Go early to have more hands on time with the alligators. The shows with the bigger alligators seem to involve the young interns getting the beasts to swim over and snap in close proximity to their hands. One day the old gators will get a result!

Is it worth making a long journey to? Probably not given the cost. But if you're nearby drop in.

By Carspino |

This is a nice pit stop if your
In the area. This is not a big place. It will probably take you 2 hours at the most to tour and watch the informational show. Most of the
people that work there are interns. Gator Country is considered a theme park. They are not considered a rescue center by the government. They do not receive any assistance, subsidy and all income is from the the guest entrance and their 911 call out show. Having said this, they need to upgrade the park. Everything seems very cluttered. I believe they lack security in the reptile cages. Cages are just like you would have at home. They are no locks and it extremely easy for curious kid or guest to open and release. There are venomous snakes cages with a plywood cover on top of cage. Not safe at all!!! I hope this does not happen, but it is a possibility. The gator show "Big Al" is cool. This is the oldest and biggest gator onsite. It is also the largest captive gator in the U.S. They sell a package to take pictures with gator. Not sure if they change the size of the gator on a daily basis, but the day I went they had a 2 foot gator. Not worth the extra fee in my opinion. I am rating this poor because of the lack of safety in the reptile cages.

Very nice and clean. Staff went over and above to make sure our two grandchildren enjoyed the experience. They totally loved picking up the baby alligators!

This is one of the best places I have been, if you haven't been there you got to go. Love the gators and the people. Gary and Jana Saurage are very great people! Hope to see them again soon!! Miss you all!!

By MartyParty4 |

We stopped in here on our way to New Orleans. This place is not fancy or zoo-like at all but the folks there are very personal and love caring for their animals. They have college interns working which can tell you about the animals and let you hold them. Our oldest daughter did the adventurer package for $22 where she could wade in the small pool with 3 small gators with their mouths shut then she was able to hold a 5 foot gator with no tape on its mouth. If the temperature was warmer (it was 50F) when we visited she would have swam in the pool with the gators. We had a personal tour just the 4 of us and really enjoyed it. Stop in and see some animals if you are in the area.

We love this park and their park in Louisiana. You can see and hold many types of reptiles, not just alligators. It really is the ultimate petting zoo. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was great as well. It's a little expensive. Holding animals costs extra money as does feeding them, but it's a super cool experience.

Enjoyed seeing the wildlife and the demonstrations by the handlers.

We are from Oregon and wanted the kids to see Gators. We saw gators for sure. It was educational and fun. I enjoyed the park and so did the kids. Definitely worth the time and money.

a great mix of zoo and environmental preserve / rescue. they have a lot more than just gators too. must be a couple hundred alligators at this place and some really big ones that you can watch get fed. a lot of educational material and some well trained and informed staff

Gary and the crew at Gator Country are wonderful. Great place and great fun! We visit frequently and always enjoy ourselves.

We decided to go to Gator Country on a whim one weekend. It was me, my 9 year old son, my 4 year old nephew, ,my brother, my friend and her 2 10 year olds as well as her 3 year old. We paid the price to get in (it was around $30 for 2 adults, 2 kids for me) and went out toward the park. We intended to let the kids hold the baby gator, feed the gators, watch the alligator show and then eat. Well, as it turns out...you have to pay an additional fee for the food, and to get in the area with the baby gator and the show was cancelled because they had an ATV race instead, and the restaurant had a 45 minute wait (which is no good with little kids, given that most of the displays say 'do not touch') . So basically, we paid the extra to feed the gators and then we let the kids play on the little playground, and we left to go home an order a pizza. I just wish when we bought our bracelets, the cashier would have told us that there was no 2:00 gator show. The heat was just way too unbearable to wait until the next showing, so our kids were extremely disappointed. :( I will say that all of the staff were very kind...I just feel like it wasn't worth the money to feed alligators off a high pier.

You will be amazed at what they do with these animals

By 7777777 |

We visited mid week and out of season so we were the only visitors, so we were given a personal tour of the creatures in the indoors enclosures. It was very interesting and fun. We got to hold snakes and alligators. We were left to wander round the enclosures outside.
It was much better than the very touristy ones in Florida. Good value for money. There is a small gift shop.

By mon582 |

Many reptiles and very educational presentations educating the public. They will tape the babies mouth (temporarily) and will let one hold them. It’s perfectly safe and does not hurt the animals!
One can walk through on your own pace. We spent about 1 1/2 hours. Enjoyable and well worth the stop along I-10!

By Nils V |

The staff is very informed and always ready to answer your questions. We got to hold alligators, snakes, and other reptiles, awesome!

By Nicole B |

Large facility with small animals and alligators in different sizes. Food can be purchased at the entrance. Alligators get hot dogs. You can also purchase a separate ticket to touch the small alligators. We thought it was too expensive. A center with information about the alligators and other small animals available. Nice but once enough.

By Litebolt |

Took the Grandsons to see the gators and whatever they had to do and see. Place is typical southeast texas. Rough road in and the surroundings are just plain. Nothing fancy. Needs some upgrades and cleanup. Have several people there but they don't do much. example: ceiling fans almost falling off. One is very dangerous hanging right over where they talk about the gators on the porch. It would only take about 2 minutes to take it down if you are not going to fix it. Anyways Big Al is the main attraction but he is shy at times. He did come up out of the water today but he wouldn't come closer. No big deal.. He did show himself. Saw one other big gator. some big ole snapping turtles and a pond of female gators getting together with their boyfriend.. They have several snakes and bearded dragons, turtles and 2 friendly raccoons. A pond of gators that you can feed. It's ok for the kids. My grandboys enjoyed it.. They even got to hold a snake and a baby gator...

By Dewayne P |

What a fun half-day adventure. Parking is free, small gift shop where you purchase your ticket and food if you so choose to do so. There are tons of gators to feed with a live show a few times a day in addition to a building housing several animals you can hold or pet. Snack bar on site.

By Cherise Parker |

We did a road trip and passed through. Croc showed started at 4. 1st croc just popped his head out, so they said next croc will be better with feeding only to have everyone sit and tell us oh the trainer isnt here. Should have just said that and passed to last crocs. Last crocodile feeding wasnt too bad. Volunteers were friendly, however no show just history of croc farm. Dont mind paying but what we saw and got was pricy ($60 for 2 adults and toddlers). However the turtle feeding was fun! Also feeding the smaller crocs through the fence with pallets

By ~Michelle My Belle~ |

It's a bumpy long walk from the parking lot to the door that doesn't look like your supposed to enter it. Inside it's the Check-In and gift shop. When you go out the back-door you're kind of on your own to wonder around until you find a volunteer or intern. You can go to the main building and hold any of the animals but make sure you don't miss a show. The adventure package $22 was unavailable for us on the day we went, yesterday, it was supposed to rain. The regular admission is $15/adult & $12/child. $2.50/bag of feed. Getting to hold an alligator?! PRICELESS! I think I had more fun than three kids! Snakes, gators, tortoise, and more. The only part that was a bit drawn out was the educational talk. We'll come back forJULY 4TH party though!

By Nora Kennedy |

I visited Gator Country during a school service trip, and loved spending time with the many different reptiles and animals they have. The staff is incredibly passionate about what they do, and their care for their creatures is really inspiring. We loved the reptile house, and we got to hold gators, snakes, and turtles. Also, there's a pressed penny machine in the gift shop you go through when you arrive, and I got a few for myself.

By Rob K |

We always wanted to visit a gator farm and couldn't have picked a better one. It's not a farm but a rescue. See alligators get fed! See the amazing Mr. Arlie do tricks with the huge "Big Al!" And after all that, stick around for a great presentation that will open your mind to the world of alligators and beyond. There is way more going on here than I expected!

By AEvans94 |

If you love any sort of reptile this place is great! The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable allowed us to hold all different types of animals and even allowed us to watch up close a couple of new gators being brought to the park from rescues. Overall so much fun for all ages. They have a real love for all the animals they rescue and care for. We would definitely recommend a stop here for anyone visiting texas from the UK!

By Christopher W |

We came on a whim over a year ago then revisited today with my mother in law. My kids love the hands on experience. My mother In law thought the holding the cayman was great and the staff is awesome. We recommend with kids two boys 8/6. The staff and the owner keep us coming back and recommending this place. Very cool to let the kids hold almost any animal in the place. Very mellow.

We spent a great time with the alligators. People are super friendly, and knowlegdable. it,s not a big place but soo many alligators to see. And very different ones. The kids went in the water with baby gators ( mouth taped). They have other animals Too. It was one of the kids favorite activity in the "Houston area".

We stopped her on our way home from Galveston this was a great place. The staff was very knowledgeable. I learned things that i did not know. U can swim with gators my little niece loved doing that. Remember if u want to do a gator swamp tour book 24 hours in advance. This is a must see place.

A friend and I scheduled the boat tour and had and awesome time. We arrived about 45 minutes early and they allowed us to go walk around the park. Lots of gators and they even let us hold a couple of the smaller ones. The boat ride was fun,we got to see a few gators (was a good day) our guide was very friendly and we even said canoe tour would be fun. Will bring other friends to this place.

A friend of mine and I were in Beaumont for the day looking to kill time and we found Gator Country. We decided to go because I love alligators, but have never gotten too close to one. This place is amazing!! We visited in early January, so we were literally the only people there that don't work there. It was a great experience! We got to see a lot of gators outside up close, within a couple feet. Inside with the snakes and lizards we got to hold three different alligators and a couple snakes! Arlie walked us around and talked to us about the different animals, where they are from, how they got them, and answered all of our nerdy and I'm sure annoying questions. We spent about 1.5 hours there. I can't recommend this place enough. Totally worth the $15.

By VLaBroski |

Gator country was a great experience! So many animals to see, touch, feed, and learn about!!! Very educational and fun! Kids as well as adults will enjoy Arlie and the crew.

By Yvonne B |

We bought package #1 - the kids got to catch small alligators in the pool, hold baby alligators, feed big ones, watch a show with the largest known alligator in captivity and sit on a live gator and get their picture taken. They had a blast! Well worth it after a bust of a "swamp" tour in Louisiana!

This is a very unique place. So many things to see and very interactive. Gator ponds are interesting, the lecture and demo is so very interesting and informative. Worth taking time out to see this place.
