We caught one of the Circulator buses from downtown DC. There are six routes upon which buses come along every 15 – 20 minutes and for $1.00 you can ride the bus wherever you want on the route. We took the one to Georgetown, where there is a pretty port side development along the Potomac River and where there are many little shops, boutiques etc. Pleasant to stroll around.

Nice neighborhood in the city of Washington. More or less, everything happens on the main street: shops, restaurants. In the parallel streets, there are residential villas.

such a beautiful and serene place. Loved the atmosphere of the area and got to visit the university and surrounding area.

This was a highlight of our trip to Washington. Wandering around the old homes, soaking up the history and visiting where JFK hung out. The food, the People, the awesome area - you gotta do it!!

This is a very tony district with lots of expensive shops. The best thing here is the amazingly inexpensive Falafel Inc.

I used to study in DC, and my visiting family and friends enjoyed having evening strolls in this neighborhood after a long day at the Smithsonian. You'll find plenty of places to grab a good cup of coffee or meal. It is also not bad for shopping and there is a cinema too.

Ignore the title: Nothing somber about glorious Georgetown on a crisp, sunny fall day. Block after block of brilliantly colored trees and beautiful early American houses— that perfect blend of decorative trim and honest architectural humility, come by the hard way, through punitive sumptuary ideas, and the fact that the country was young and poor and had yet to acquire its inveterate hubris. Great food, a variety of shops, and the University for a welcome diversion. Easy to park, too. But a sonata nonetheless.

Lots of old buildings and history here. It was a rel nice place to visit. We went on a tour to see and had a great time. The guide had a lot of knowledge about the area.

Georgetown has a great range of both shops and eateries. Lululemon and Dean and Delucca were my highlights. Peet's coffee also good. Ols style america, go an visit!

Our group walked much of Georgetown and found it very quaint. There are some off-the-beaten-path type of things to see including DC Cupcakes (as featured on TLC cable channel) and the stairs from the Exorcist. Plenty of little restaurants and great architecture and cobblestone streets to explore as well.

Walked around the many and diverse shops a big difference from the large malls
Went down to the River front
Lovely area had a drink at Sequoia a. It expensive but lovely river views

If your staying in the Washington area.. you have to make the 15-20 drive. It’s got a old world feel, yet every type of store you can imagine. Great restaurants with all types of foods. There are great hotels close by also. Great way to spend an afternoon.

The streets in Georgetown are always crowded and bumper to bumper after 10am - as are the sidewalks along M Street NW. But focus on the lovely side streets. Take a stroll down R Street - and imagine how old Old Power Washington once was. The power brokers may have mostly moved to the suburbs, but Georgetown remains a big draw and a pleasure to visit.

If you fancy the charm of the past days this is a place you will love. Take a couple of hours to stroll around the alleys and old streets of this well kept neighborhood.: there is more off the beaten paths so don’t just walk on the main road.

Lovely place to take a stroll, and plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, etc., to grab a bite, have a drink, etc. Historic, beautiful, relaxing.

Georgetown 'high street' is much more like and English town that an American one. The canal is being restored and the waterfront along the Potomac is no longer and industrial port but is now a park. You can stand outside JFK's house and visit the fine buildings of Georgetown University

A really lovely area in the city, with lots of beautiful houses. I feel like the canal has a huge potential, it's a pity that it's not in better condition!

We stayed at the Georgetown suites, close to great shopping and food. Visited the Potomac riverbed, parks and watched people have a great time on the ice course.
You will find all kinds of food, special stores and overall the community seems like a friendlier part of town.

My wife decided she wanted to explore Georgetown, so we walked down M street and explored. We went up and down the streets, taking in antique shops, clothing shops, furniture shops, and tons of restaurants.
We stopped at a place for dinner, and then went to a bar which had both a band and comedy night going at the same time.
How can you go wrong? It's a great place to visit. Nice and clean.

A lot of my friends told me to visit it but at very beginning I was not sure , if I would not been there I might make the biggest mistake. Is such a great place where to spend some nice time walking , getting good food and see colorful houses.

Named after King George II of England, GT is home to many landmarks (Volta Bureau and Old Stone House to identify a few) in addition to many embassies.

Search for the interesting street art is part of the George George Town fun activity. Although the weather is hot but we all having so much fun .

I'll bring my kids anywhere, and Georgetown is no exception. In winter we go ice skating and visit Santa at the Fairmont, in summer we hop on a boat tour going down the Potomac. Naturally, you will want to check out the flavor of the day at Olivia's Macarons and Georgetown Cupcakes too. If you aren't with your kids, this is the place to shop until you drop. Every major brand is here, but look out for those local shops too. There are hiding, but worth looking for.

There were many great restaurants to choose from in this area. The neighborhood and riverfront were decorated for Christmas and very beautiful and enjoyable to walk around. There is even an outdoor ice skating rink.

Georgetown is a well preserved, historic area full of calm and beauty. Excellent walking tour with nice small streets, old beautiful houses and Georgetown University was amazing. Also the waterfront is a beautiful place to spend nice time. There are many photo opportunities in the area, pretty buildings with colorful fronts and old fashioned architecture. The architecture and history are amazing and there are so many places to stop and see. Took a delightful stroll from the shops on M street down to the waterfront.

A pretty little area with a small town feel and pleasant to walk around and follow the riverside back to the Lincoln memorial

Georgetown was there before Washington, D.C. It has a small town feel with lots of boutiques, restaurants and bars. Try the awesome cupcakes from Sprinkles.

WOW!
Had no idea how grand the campus was.
Main buildings are cathedral like.
Interesting neighborhood.
Definitely want to explore more.

This a rea of Washington is very different form the rest of the city. It has this European feeling which feels good after all the huge monuments and buildings

Would definitely stay in Georgetown again. So convenient for DC. 10 mins to the centre of Washington.
Lots to see including the Exorcist Steps (and house), good old fashioned American architecture and nice bars (really liked the vibe in Thunder).
Also the Founding Farmers is a wonderful place to eat.

After a allowing visit to Embassy Row we cut across into the backstreets of Georgetown, a nearby suburb famous for its Federal style architecture; trendy surrounds and nearby University (many US politicians went there).
Lots of Halloween stuff in the front yards - scary (lol) - and finally to the main shopping street. Wandered along the C&O Canal Towpath (early water way for the horse drawn barges) looking at the old warehouses that are now residential.
Lots of people by now. Pretty cool - a lovely suburb to visit.

We travel from DC to Georgetown with the Circulator ($1.00). I would define it as an interesting neighborhood.
Besides shopping, the historic houses and sites, the river and his boardwalk covered our expectations and if you are a foodie for sure will find a lot to do. Dean and Deluca its one of them!

Fewer tourists and more students. Great restaurants and boutique shopping. Walkable and pleasant at night.

Loved the vibe in Georgetown. Pretty historical homes with lots if interesting stories and beautiful garden tours.
Visit Casa Rosada Artisan Gelato for vegan nd non vegan gelato. I loved the chocolate and coffee options for the vegan gelato.

Just walking down the streets of Georgetown you feel like you are in a small New England town and not the heart of Washington DC. There is a plethora of restaurants, great shops and worth the trip.

I travel often to DC, therefore I have seen the magnificent musts and dos within the area and I still love Georgetown every time I come. The M Street is certainly the fav for most tourists and locals: shops, restaurants, fun, bars, bakery shops and many more; however, the canal behind M Street is marvelous! It’s a dirt path where you can have a pleasant walk or ride your bike. Some restaurants in M Street now have taken tables and chairs by the canal in order to enjoy the view and the nature.
Big asset, great view, enjoyable place and wonderful walk!

Small shops and quaint boutiques ( that we wished more were open), but at least here there was vibrancy that is reminiscent, a scintialla of pre-Covid life.

George town is an interesting destination both for its old-world architecture and wide choice of eateries and drinking venues.

Whilst on my business trip to Washington DC, I stayed in the nearby Hilton Garden Inn and enjoyed the Georgetown area for its many resturants and other delights.

eating/shopping/walking. excellent shops, nice restaurants, some night life, waterfront park, what's not to like?

Popular area of Washington for a reason! Cozy part of Washington with a lot to see and a nice selection of restaurants, shops, etc. We stayed in Georgetown during our stay in Washington and can really recommend it. Close to the river and easy to get to other parts of the city.

We jumped on the Big Tour Bus with a deluxe ticket about £56. that covers the complete red ,blue & yellow loop the blue loop takes you to Georgetown we spent a day here it was lovely plenty to see down by the lake or shops, cafes, bistros & great cupcake stores ... it was worth a trip we really enjoyed the ambiance & the atmosphere & it was great to see a different part of town. You can also get s water taxi to this destination if you our base the deluxe ticket it’s included.

It was our first visit to the Georgetown area. It is a quaint little area of many shops and restaurants. We enjoyed walking around and doing a little shopping. We ate at a restaurant that was very good ( I can't remember the name ). It was an Irish Pub type of restaurant with some outdoor seating. Even though it was November, we ate outside, as it was very busy inside. They have the heaters going and it was very comfortable. I had lobster bisque- it was very good. My husband had sliders; he enjoyed them.

Many small boutiques and restaurants. Definitely worth a visit, particularly the promenade by the river.

I'd heard so much about this place, perhaps I was expecting too much. Most of the shops were expensive chains, there were little artisan or crafts to be seen. And I noticed a lot of empty shop and restaurant storefronts which is a great shame but is probably testament to how expensive it is to be there. The houses on the back streets and were very pretty to look at but the commercial area was very busy with traffic and cars trying to park. Not quite sure why the canal was supposed to be a tourist stop, I was probably looking in the wrong place.
All in all, this place was our least favourite place to visit on what has been a really great trip to Washington.

I really enjoy visiting Georgetown. It is a charming and clean area that offers plenty of shopping, restaurants and nightlife entertainment.

Gtown is a such a cute and walkable college town it's not to be missed. The architecture is so great you can just wander up and down the streets to see some great examples. M street is a main street full of shops and eateries.

Lots of restaurants and shopping here - yes many of these stores are at you local mall and are nothing special - but still a fun place to come.

This was our first time stay in Georgetown and we were so surprised. We were located near bus and Metro stops and so we walked through the neighborhoods daily. And yes there was the expected glitz, but there was so much more. We kept trying new routes so we could explore discover. I want to return--there's more to see.

Not sure where the happening spot is at night? Locals and tourist prefer Georgetown over the National Mall.

Nice place for long walk and shopping, small colorful buildings in the old style, nice place at water canal. For summer time great place for relax and to meet with friends.

Had a great walk through Georgetown. Took the riverboat to Georgetown. M street is is major thoroughfare where the majority of shops and restaurants are located. Really crowded on weekends. We had lunch at Clyde’s which was fantastic. The river area is beautiful and lots of people kayaking and walking along the river. A fun area to spend the day

This is a beautiful part of the city, it's great to walk around, shopping, dinning and beautiful architecture makes it a hit

Really enjoyed being there at night for ice cream / dinner / and people watching. Be careful of the buses and taxis, they move quick and don't wait. A must see for people that like to be out on a nice, weekend night.

Looks nice area but nothing to do there. Went for a look around, but a bit disappointed. Had lunch there where there were some different restaurants.

The area has good and bad points. Main Street is starting to look tired and several shops have closed or being renovated leaving the visitor without the sense of awe that existed a few years ago. The water front is special but is looking tacky with restaurants having outside tables adorned with Ketchup bottles. Fast food concepts next to fine dining spoils the overall impression.

we visited this area for shopping. I think it was a nice area for shopping, but even better for dining? There were a lot of nice restaurants and a cosy atmosphere when we strolled a round there. Visiting Georgetown is best without rain.

Georgetown ha s become too commercial and has lost its appeal of unique shops ... nothing special about M Street shopping any longer

Georgetown is a lovely section DC with many great restaurants, shops and residential areas. We enjoyed eating and strolling through the streets and parks. A short walk to Massachusetts Ave. and Embassy Row can be added to a visit.

Such a fun neighborhood to grab a nice meal by the water, walk around for a bit and then grab desert at one of the bakeries. Also fun to rent paddelboards.

Georgetown is a combination of good and bad. If you are looking for a quiet quaint old city, stay away from M street. To us angry rude drivers and loud honking cars were a big turn off. As you walk towards Georgetown University things change. Streets become beautiful, quiet, and worth walking around.

The area feels safe and has some beautiful homes. Lots of shops some very unique and upscale. The only drawbacks are the difficulty with parking and the lack of a close metro stop.

This neighbourhood has a quieter, slower pace, with some lovely older buildings (by US Standards). There are some lovely coffee shops, a good variety of shops, but it's all a bit pricey.

We did a quick drive through tour on our way out of town. It was raining that morning, but I loved looking at the homes and cute shops. We didn't go down to the boardwalk. I would have loved to have been able to do the Georgetown walking tour. Worth a quick stop if you're in town.

Got to travel through Georgetown on the Big Bus. It is a very impressive neighborhood. Very upscale, and historic. Did you know that the house featured in the Exorcist is located in Georgetown?

There are lots of nice little shops, including the always-fun Lush. Good restaurants and historic sites, such as the Old Stone House and Dumbarton Oaks.

Simply lovely, vintage and historical! The town streets decorated whimsical for Christmas, easy walking and art exhibits scattered throughout! So glad we took the big bus tour out to Georgetown! Icing on the cake to our DC trip!

The streets of this historic town are beautiful. You can just walk and enjoy the architecture or stop at the different local coffee shops and restaurants and enjoy some art galleries.

I stayed in Georgetown at a boutique hotel. This is a very safe area. We stayed right along the C & O Canal. It was a lovely area to walk through. So much shopping in this area. You’ll find everything from TJ Maxx to upscale shopping. Restaurants are everywhere here and you won’t have to walk far at all to find somewhere to dine. Truly worth spending an evening here to walk around. The Metro does not go to Georgetown so keep that in mind but you can hop on the DC Connector to get you there or you can talk a walk.

You can get there by car, or biking by the river. Georgetown university is a nice promenade. Walk/ bike by the riverside, or in the small streets ir across M street. Choose a sunny day !

PROS
* Historic quaint famous exclusive neighborhood
* Stores, shops, food and entertainment
CONS
* Crowded streets of traffic
* Crowded sidewalks of people
* Crowded stores and shops and restaurants of customers
* No metro train access and bus transport is not adequate
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... when we went to the Apple Store to get the iphone14 that I use to get my fantastic photos (none of this attraction though). Then we wandered around and ate ice cream because the restaurant we had heard about turned out to be not for us.
The area is not new to me- I had been there many many many times
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Being there is free; doing stuff is not
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Not necessarily on intent, but I wouldn't avoid it
ADVICE
* It's a tourist and entertainment area, so go if that interests you
* Public transportation to the area is not adequate

Everybody told us that we must visit Georgetown. We went there by bike, but you probably really need to stroll around, as we didn’t know where to go. It has an old stone house but that didn’t seem very interesting. Maybe our expectations as Europeans were too high.

Stayed at Georgetown Suites. Great neighborhood. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. High end shopping and boutiques. Easy access to downtown DC. Located next to Potomac River. Very quaint old town feel. Loved it.

Walk along the main strip in Georgetown and you can shop at a variety of places (many tend to be high end and several are furniture or kitchen/ home based) or you can stop in and eat at one of the many restaurants along the strip. During the winter months they had Art display along the canal, the artwork was all varied and lit (neon) along the walking paths.

I used to love Georgetown. It was edgy, sort of hippie-ish, a fun alternative place to visit, drink, eat, and hang. But in the last decade or so, it's devolved, much like Whole Foods, into an overpriced shopping mall. The restaurants are still great. And much variety. And the area is lovely. But it's an upscale series of stores and shops and restaurants and bars, none of them especially edgy, and most of them overpriced. I love walking through, but if I want an artsy or edgy area, I look elsewhere.

A historic neighborhood, .georgetown has brick sidewalks.
It has unique retail stores on Wisconsin and Along M.
There are many eateries, often with outdoor seating.
Off the main streets,it is residential with lovely townhouses and stately single homes. There are two historic homes to visit. No Metro but walkable from part of DC…or bus or Uber.
It has fantastic ice cream and, surprisingly, groves of bamboo growing!

We drove through here on our way from Arlington Cemetery. After our respects in this beautifully maintained resting place for those lost in war or later, Presidents etc., this area was so cute, loved the buildings

A must-see if you are in Washington DC!
A nice walk from the metro Foggy bottom, it is a small charming neighborhood with the canal, shops, restaurants and waterfront area; not to mention the beautiful Georgetown university front lawn!
Take at least one afternoon to visit Georgetown!

Probably my favorite small town I've ever been to. Walking the cobble stone streets, shopping the great shops and eating at all the pubs and restaurants can't be matched.

Georgetown is a special and desirable district of Washington DC, upscale and generally clean. Plenty of restaurants and bars, with lovely classic homes around the neighborhood.

We went to the Georgetown area while visiting DC because we needed to go to the Apple store and found the whole area to be a real treat. We stopped for tea at Cafe Georgetown and thought it was relaxing, lovely and a real treat. We enjoyed walking around the area despite the rainy day.

We went to Georgetown for lunch and found it quaint yet modern. There are lots of restaurants and bars by the waterfront and on a nice sunny day we walked besides the Potomac.

We drove around Georgetown, did some shopping and parked our car as well, to walk the beautiful tree-lined streets. I revisted the impressive Georgetown Univerity where I once studied and the memories flooded back. It's a lovely neighborhood.

I took a taxi into Georgetown to walk around by the waterfront then up to M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. Lots of shopping and restaurants in the area, a real historic colonial neighborhood.

It is a very nice neighborhood in DC. For people staying a week or more in the area I would recommend spending a day here seeing the sights,

We spent few hrs walking down the streets of George towns , it’s really very beautiful and quintessentially a village like in England with no high buildings but lots of small shops and restaurants. All in different styles. If someone blindfolded you and left you in middle of street, you would think you were in England.
If you are in Washington, George Town is must visit.

My husband and I enjoyed walking around the Georgetown area. There were many shops to enjoy and great places to enjoy a snack and cocktail.

Strolling, window shopping, eating or drinking - what a lovely venue Georgetown is!! On a busy Sunday afternoon, it was a busy and exciting place!

i loved all the small shops and resturants. there was also a street fair the sunday afternoon i was there, something for everyone

This has a village feel, but it’s in DC proper. Don’t come looking for inexpensive. This is an upscale side of town with shopping, its a trendy chic area. Many chain shops here, but some unique local retailers too. Great restaurants & of course Georgetown University is located here.

Georgetown is beautiful! Walked the neighborhood and enjoyed the architecture as well as the restaurants and the park on the Potomac River. It can be expensive but that is to be expected. And a special note to Trip Advisor; your new format sucks and your site has become non-user friendly. If I am the only one experiencing this then so be it but imagine I am not alone with this sentiment. Please
Change your format and make it user friendly.

Georgetown is so pretty and so different than DC. Walking through Georgetown gives you the impression to be so, so far from DC - a different world. Great for shopping and cafes although beware of the queues at cafes at the weekend! I would definitely go back.

Took a hop on/hop off boat ride to Georgetown on Sunday morning for brunch and a chill down from DC. It's very, very popular and riverside very expensive too for drinks. That said its much more chilled and a great place to watch the world go by.

Took a delightful stroll from the shops on M street down to the waterfront. Very pleasant area with boat cruises rgularly and wonderful eating places.

We wondered for hours, great food, shopping, crowds, and vibe. This is a great area to spend the day or week. First time here and will definitely be the area we stay in next time in DC. Close to everything except the metro.

Georgetown has certainly become even greater place for a walk with the beautification of its waterfront, and the park even on a warm summer day invites for an enjoyable walk.

Walking round Georgetown in the fall is a treasure. Beautiful buildings, beautifully colored trees, lots of interesting shops and restaurants.

Georgetown serves as more of a break from the hustle and bustle of the city than as a “tourist attraction.” However, it is one of our favorite areas in DC for that exact reason. The historic homes are beautiful and walking through the neighborhoods is so relaxing. The restaurants are generally very good and the bars offer everything from super nice craft cocktails to college dive bar atmospheres.
Georgetown University is also a nice stop in the area. The buildings are striking and the grounds are beautiful.
There is also the waterfront park, which is great for lounging in the sun, watching the boats or rowers passing by, and resting your aching feet from all the walking that you have inevitably done.
The downside (for some) is that there are no Metro rail stops in Georgetown, so the only access is by car, walking, or bus line.

spent a lovely evening here good shops , food and entertainment enjoyed a live jazz band in a local bar and in contrast cocktails and an excellent dinner in a first class restaurant.

We caught the Circulator bus from Union Station to Georgetown where we walked around to the Apple Store then went to the riverfront for coffee and to check out a couple of restaurants before moving on to the historic area of Foggy Bottom and a stroll along Pennsylvania Avenue to The Cottage at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

So much fun to walk around and check out all the super cool buildings. So many shops and restaurants. Loved the cobblestone streets and the quaint feel of this area. The canal was pretty dry but was still cool to see.

Amazing University. Super friendly and helpful students. Great place for a wedding in the chapel. We enjoyed our stay and walk through the campus.

My wife and I spent 30+ minutes looking for parking as we wanted to stroll the streets -- but parking was impossible to find anywhere. We ended up giving up and just driving to the National Mall and spending time there. Disappointing...

Georgetown is a great place to consider when staying in DC. It’s a lived in neighborhood & great for shopping & dining all within walking distance. It’s just a short Uber ride to all the great sites too. The area itself is quite historic & charming. It has a younger feel as well due to the university located there as well.

Doesn't feel like you are in a metropolitan city. Great small town feel and beautiful river setting. Georgetown University is beautiful on the hill and the shops are fun, hip and quirky. Don't miss a trip to Dean and Deluca and Georgetown Cupcake!

This is a wonderful neighborhood. Lots of great walking, restaurants and the water is close by. Also, must visit DC Cupcakes - they are amazing!! Other iconic movies were made in this area. Great Visit!

A fun section of DC with historic walks all around from the cemeteries to the colonial mansions, there is something for everyone. If you like to see the next generation and the future DC crowd, this is the place to be. Air BnB's abound and you can walk any hour of the night. Great for history buffs and for those who enjoy the turn of the 18th century feel across from metropolis of DC

Great place to visit. It is located in the heart of an historic district. Great restaurants, places to see and shop!. Loved it and plan to visit again!

Caught an Uber here to have a visit. Beautiful area to walk around and do some shopping. Good restaurants and shops. walk down to the waterfront for some amazing pictures.

I love everything about Georgetown from the shopping to the restaurants to the architecture. I spend much of my time in this area when visiting Washington. Walking along the canal is relaxing at any time of the year despite the lack of water. Walking along the side streets near Georgetown University reveals homes and other buildings that were built hundreds of years ago and others that are fairly new. If you pay enough attention to your surroundings, you will notice unique door knockers, wrought iron fences, cobblestone streets with the original trolley tracks and building numbers. I recommend that everyone visit this beautiful neighborhood at one point.

If you have the choice go to Alexandria far prettier.
We found Georgetown run down not worth visiting.

There is something for everyone here...shopping, eating, history, walking, sightseeing, etc. there is a huge selection of dining establishments and shopping. I never tire because there is so much to do, and you can find anything within walking distance. Very eclectic!

Georgetown is an amazing neighborhood with so much history. An urban area with a real neighborhood feel!

Yes- there it is: the famous Georgetown: it seems that it was at its peak during my tenure there, from mid1970s to mud 1980s. Now, the signature movie theatres are gone and it's more chic and upscale and classy- always expensive but now more so.
It's less exciting than it was: is the corner of Wisconsin and M Streets, N.W. still the place to be and be seen on Saturday night at 11pm? Probably not.
The only thing that remains quaint is the row houses, which we passed without stopping to admire them.
Full disclosure: I was here to go to one of those ynuqie specialty stores.

A must visit for its houses, streets, businesses, restaurants and bars. Waterfront with its businesses on the Potomac.

The most busiest well reserved area in DC for shopping and leisure, I loved the great vibe here offering. The best thing was the Maison Lobster roll in the area and full of things to shop.
One downside there is no direct metro to stop, you will need to get to Foggy Bottom metro then walk or take an extra bus to be here. From Union Station, you can take the Georgetown red bus to here directly.
Great place for friends, family or personal time.

Georgetown is a really lovely place, with its shops and bars. The University is worth visiting. I recommend the waterfront area for a stroll and eating.

Nice town to walk around in. Lots of shops and restaurants. Has the famous cupcake place that was on TLC. Always a line out the door.

A gem, like a small town with beautiful street houses in different colors. Nice shops and nice restaurants. A gem three minutes drive from downtown Washington.
Well worth a visit.

Take a stroll around Georgetown University and the neighborhood around it. Super fun to eat and enjoy the night out. Lots of neighborhoods to see and canal walk is great. Lots of restaurants everywhere

I love NYC and it's for sure my fave place in the world but Georgetown, it was so beautiful, so classic, the style of buildings was amazing and yet still had a little hustle & bustle which I love being from London! We specifically came here for the cupcakes, ended up going shopping for a while (I was wearing wedges and was not in discomfort at all, if you are here all day I would suggest flats), then we walked down to the seafront from there - the walk was so pleasant and felt so relaxing! We walked down a row of house opposite the river and it's just somewhere you see yourself growing old... I loved it!

beautiful And expensive
DREAM ARCHITECTURE. QUIET AND GOOD BUSINESS
RECOMMENDABLE
TO WALK FOR AT LEAST TWO DAYS

Georgetown has several elements that are worth a Visit. There is the main street area, the university, and the neighborhood. Each is worth your time. Stroll and take many pictures, Dress for the season. Dress to walk, The sidewalks can be uneven and narrow. Linger and enjoy a meal or coffee. Great restaurants like Filomena beckon.

If you visit Georgetown, avaoid the crowds. Stay away from M Street shops and the waterfront. Head up hill to where the old houses are and walk the streets. Head all the way up to R street and hit the cemetery and gardens. Georgetown is not about Starbucks and chain stores, its a neighborhood...so, go meet some locals tending their gardens.

this place has a lovely avenue where you can walk, eat from a good meal to a delightful cupcake, take your time place.

Really enjoyed just walking around and popping in and out of the cobble shops. Reading the history and just looking at all of the architecture, and soaking in the vibe. This place is really busy though driving wise. I'd suggest public transportation or a scooter/bike share to get around.

We stayed in this neighborhood, very bourgeois and elegant, neat and formal. Also the malls are different re-exported to other places we have seen. It is a relevant part of the life of this city

Georgetown is walkable and many of the buildings have registry plaques explaining their history. We walked on side streets and wound up at Georgetown University.

We just loved this area and went a few times . Oldest area in Washington. The buildings and architecture are amazing. Many fantastic restaurants. There is a great vibe to the place too.

We really appreciate the place. We took several photos, we walked a lot! Georgetown is only accessible by bus because the subway doesn't get here. Plan a few hours for a visit. Nice place! Take plenty of pictures.

Love Georgetown. Good shopping and restaurants. Young crowds and energy. Many boutiques. Like to stay in Georgetown when we're in town most of the time.

Georgetown is one of the most charming places for walking, shopping and eating. The University and surrounding area are a wonderful draw for students and visitors.

Georgetown is a beautiful area of Washington DC. However we fond the main strips (M street and Wisconsin Avenue) overly commercial and crowded. We prefer the back streets which are much more charming and relaxing. The Georgetown University grounds is worth a visit and the waterfront is also pleasant. Although very short, Cady's Alley just south of M Street is very beautiful.

We try never to miss a trip to Georgetown when in the area. We enjoy the cobbled streets, specialty boutiques and excellent restaurants. It is often possible to find a meal and live music ranging from jazz to blues to more contemporary.

Very nice town with lots of shops, restaurants and older historic buildings. They are working on the canal, which will be very nice. We ate breakfast on the water and had a wonderful view. Very enjoyable.

Georgetown is so fun and I go there all the time. Great shopping, restaurants, and waterfront scenery. So much to do and it’s just a great neighborhood to enjoy, especially on a Saturday. Highly recommend

On my last trip to DC..I spent an evening in Georgetown. Had dinner and drinks and shopped. Just loved it and the history. I really liked the area.

Georgetown is the oldest district of Washington with lots of charm and beautiful old but well restored houses, many small shops , restaurants and possible activities

We loved Georgetown, the Tudor House and gardens and Dumbarton Museum and Gardens. Definitely worth the visit and walk around.

Stayed with friends for a quick "Girls Get-Away." We had a GREAT time and enjoyed the historical sights, dining, and shopping. We either walked to everythihng or took a quick Uber ride. Would go back in a heartbeat!!!

Georgetown is a nice place to walk around and see the Potomac river. however it gets crowded so i wont not drive because not lots of parking. good place for a first date

It was a warm day so I decided to walk from the Cathedral of St. Matthews the Apostle
( located near 17th Street) to this neighborhood.
I took my time walking and admiring the beautiful sceneries I passed by along M Street, NW: hotels, restaurants, shops, gyms, etc. before reaching Georgetown.
Per Trip Advisor, I noted the various attractions located here, visited them and posted results of my visit: Old Stonehouse, Potomac River, Key Bridge, Francis Scott Memorial Park. Georgetown Waterfront Park, C & O Canal, Georgetown University, etc. There are many shops and restaurants located here as well.
Highly recommended to visit!

Myself and my husband walked to Georgetown from Washington, where we had spent the week. The waterfront is beautiful and the views across the river are stunning. We had a lovely meal at Tony and Joe's Seafood Place which was superb. A gorgeous setting to spend the last day of our holiday.

A neighborhood of absolute beauty, with period houses, parks and gardens, vintage or designer shops and the historic georgetown University, which has prepared leading figures of the American ruling class, including President Clinton.

The areas that we visited were rather run down and several of the shops were no longer trading and vacant.

We really enjoy walking around Georgetown. We went on a Sunday and enjoyed our time shopping and sipping coffee. There are tons of great food options as well!

Visited Georgetown recently and can't wait to go back. Beautiful waterfront and park, a perfect place to rent bikes and go for a ride.

We were blessed to stay locally and enjoyed this area immensely. The architecture is gorgeous and the area is very clean with many local places to grab a bite or a cold beverage. Would definitely return here.

If you go to Georgetown should make a guided tour, but I believe it can be a self-guided tour contracted for mobile, because the visit that leaves Washington by the Potomac river do not recommend.
You can get from the center of Washington-Union Station by taking the bus 33 that passes the main street and also in front of the "Matin ́s Tavern", an excellent restaurant frequented by 12 of the last 14 US presidents.
At the very least if you visit the city to stroll and see old houses and so on, it is not worth it if it is not with some kind of guide. It becomes a meaningless leg baptism when much of what you see in downtown Washington resembles the buildings we see in Georgetown.

This town is really a gem to visit! The people of Georgetown and business owners really take pride in the history and preservation of their town. Lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, and beautiful homes. A must !

I have been visiting Georgetown for almost five years ... my son attends Georgetown University. First off, the campus is beautiful. It is a charming area to live or visit, to walk and window shop, to visit historic places from little unique spots to the nearby historical monuments and museums. You can venture out of GT and so quickly you are at the National Zoo studying pandas or at the Tidal Basin soaking up the beauty of cherry blossoms blooming. The Kennedy Center is nearby - a must. Go climb the Exorcist steps adjoining Georgetown U. Stroll along the old canal and head to the river front. Oh and don't forget to eat! The most eclectic establishments abound with all kinds of culinary treats from all over the world. The diversity of the Georgetown scene is a pleasure to be part of, both the people and the landscape.

Great walking along the canal and the Potomac. Lots to see and do in Georgetown. Fun place. We will go back.

this is a lovely part of DC to wander around, nice mix of chain shops and independents. Lots of cute side streets to walk on. Dont forget to walk down to the waterfront.

Fun diversion from the monuments. Some chains like Anthropology plus some unique boutiques, none are bargains as this is high rent district. Nice cafes but small and crowded.

This town is great to walk around. I visited my first amazon shop here!
There are lots of shops to see and many old streets.
So many places to eat and a great walk along the river

Awful grip of a place walked from Georgetown park and a man wearing no shoes possibly on drugs sprinted into an old man walking with two women and knocked him and himself clear to the ground then he was looking around for someone else to attack we felt very scared and unsafe and walked the opposite way only to encounter even more weird on drug people awful place got an Uber away from it

Very pretty with some top named shops as well as some very unique little boutiques. Traditional American diner and lovely restaurant and a canal .

My visit here was pleasant , but not as good as I expected. There was not as much directly related to the Lincoln assasination as I thought there would be. You first go through their museum. It is devoted to the entire Civil War period--not specifically the assasination. You then go into the theatre. You can see the Presidential box to your right--but that is as close as you get. Someone in period costume then comes on stage and talks to you about Lincoln. But, again, the talk is not centered on the assasination that occurred there.

...this part of DC is just amazing with all its old houses and the small shops embedded there in a perfect way. Lovely to visit and wander around...

Georgetown itself was really nice. Lots of good shops. The disappointing thing was the service in the restaurants. I don’t know if it is because most restaurants automatically add the 20% tip or not so that some servers don’t make an effort? I would say that 90% of the service was poor. If there was an option to not leave a tip I would have done so due to the poor service. We have been to USA many times and DC is by far the city with the poorest service.

seems quite safe to walk on every street in this trendy neighborhood. Many restaurants to choose from and less stores but almost all of them are interesting.

We were in DC for four nights and ate dinner two of them here. Mai Thai (good, brown rice option - yay!) and old bar/pub around corner of M Street and Wisconsin (good veggie burger and server Matthew). Also, had to have a cupcake at Georgetown Cupcakes (20 minutes wait in line, but worth it). Nice area, active at night, good mix of people.

While most people get caught up in the historic/political tourist attractions in DC they should take the time to visit Georgetown for a completely different experience - one of relaxation, nice restaurants/bakeries/cafes, shops and a completely different vibe vs the one felt in and around the Mall.

Oh how I could stroll these streets endlessly! Stunning architecture and character, great shops and restaurants & fun cobblestone walkways. Parking can be hit or miss, but you can often find a spot a few blocks north of the shops. Stunning in spring with all of the blooms!

I'm in DC a lot. Such a great city Georgetown has numerous great restaurants, walking areas, many different tours, stores, many historic homes . Italian restaurants on the canal, great restaurants on the river. Speaking of the Potomac, there are numerous tours. You can also rent kayaks and water toys.

It is charming and bustling. Great restaurants and fun shops.
Don't miss it. Walk up M street and back along to canal.

From the banks of the Potomac river , all the way to the Georgian house and mansions, Georgetown is clean, quaint and easy to walk which is a treat in US cities. Plenty of shopping opportunities and sightseeing / running/cycling!

So different than the other side of town ,a great advertisement on traditional values, really worth the trip for the shops and clubs and bars. Laid back and really unique!!

We have done this twice already only because there is so much to see and do. Shops, restaurants, education can all be inspiring at this location. Come with a strong pair of legs and a great appetite.

Although I travel to DC each year this is only the second time to visit Georgetown. It is the kind of place you would want to live and thrive in - full of energy yet dotted with beautiful trees, flowers and postcard front porches. The numerous cafes and restaurants are not as frequent now due to COVID but we still found wonderful spots to stop and people watch.

A Lovely Neighborhood in Washington
I love Georgetown, and mostly due to its architecture, though its history is an important aspect too. On a gloomy March day, I strolled parts of Georgetown, and not for the first time. On previous trips, usually in the Autumn, I have walked the streets extensively, studying the architecture - some famous, but some just attractive. It seems that at least a quarter of the buildings are on the National Historical Register.
With restaurants and shopping, plus several hotels, and then Georgetown University, there is much more to draw one to this neighborhood, but for me, on this Spring day, it was just the architecture, and a nice stroll.
Normally, I will walk along the Georgetown Canal (an historical site, in its own right), but I stayed a little north. I only had about an hour for this part of my stroll, as I had to meet my wife back at our hotel, near the White House, so had quite a few blocks for my return trip. I would allow at least 4 hours to explore Georgetown, with all that it has to offer, and include lunch in one of the myriad restaurants, as well.

Georgetown is a must if you are visiting DC. It's not far from the center (you can catch a bus) and there is plenty to do and see.
I suggest walking through the neighborhood - it's a maze of cobbled streets & colorful Victorian homes, then head to the main street for shopping and dining at one of the many trendy restaurants.
I recommend visiting Georgetown University, an Ivy League institution, and finishing off at Georgetown Waterfront Park for a lovely stroll along the river and to watch the sunset.

Half-Day Grand Sightseeing Tour of Washington DC, a four-hour tour was just right. There were four stops with just enough time to see sites. Ali, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and informative!

We had lots of fun walking around Georgetown, including Georgetown University and other places. All in a very enjoyable experience.

We went in a boat and the history was very interesting... the sights no so much. We didn't spend enough time in the area to visit all there was to see.

all the major shops are her and a lot of restaurants even in winter lots of people walking the streets so while in town check it out

It is a very nice area with stylish architecture houses and streets. It is very good walking neighborhood, which gives the sense of old part of the City as it is diverse from downtown

I was staying in Georgetown at the Fairmont Hotel, so it was the closest neighbourhood to my accommodation.
Georgetown is an eclectic mix of colourful architecture in different styles and colours. There are lots of cafes, restaurants, high end shops and beautiful homes.
The weather was poor for most of my stay, so I took the chance of taking photographs in the early evening when it was overcast with occasional drizzle,
I don't think I scratched the surface of Georgetown as I didn't have the time to explore further. I recommend a visit to this neighbourhood when visiting Washington DC.

Truly beautiful architecture and home to one of the best universities in the country. Great dining, shopping and people watching. Priced accordingly.

I've been coming here since the 60's. A lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. The houses look magnificant--wonder what they're like inside! Some old restaurants are still here and some interesting new ones have come. Unfortunately, many chains (food and shopping) have come, too. There are more unique stores coming back, so it's well worth the walk here--for both locals and tourists.

Truly an area filled with overprice stores and marvelous 18th and 19th homes. A nice place to walk, but not a lot to sink your teeth into. We did enjoy the winter Glow exhibit and if the community can keep on bringing street art to the community then visiting this historic area will be a draw. Ice skating was nice and sitting along the water was most relaxing.

Visited Georgetown twice while in Washington. First time was at night, difficult to find a place to eat as we were walk ins.
Following day, we walked around but the streets were jammed, Sunday afternoon, lovely weather, but would return.

Georgetown is always on our list of places to go when we're in DC. Great shops and restaurants within easily, walk-able distance to the Washington Harbor. You can ride the Metro to Roslyn & walk across the bridge of get off at Foggy Bottom. We took a Lyft for convenience, but once there, walked all over. Always a good, active, fun crowd.

A must visit to Georgetown university, the campus is structures are unique. A short distance to Georgetown with many cute shops, restaurants, and a must visit to Georgetown cupcakes.

We came here as part of our pedicab tour. We thought it was a really beautiful and at times serene area that we could easily see ourselves living in very happily. Well worth a visit to a unique and interesting area.

Looking to get out of Washington for a few hours. Lots of little shops and restaurants and a nice water front to kill a few hours.

Georgetown is a well preserved, historic area full of calm and beauty. Also some great restaurants! Great for a peaceful wander.

The place is wonderfull...but....
We are Italian tourists on a cruise. Never seen such rude people before, no one laughing, all sad faces.
They are not grateful that if they manage to eat, they have us tourists to thank.
Absolutely don't leave the heats, they don't deserve it.
They are an ugly people

this are of washington DC is one of prefered in your visit, all stores are cool to shop, and a great wal on the area.
full of students wher the university is.

This is a great place to people watch and to walk and shopping. They have the neatest mix of everything. you can get deserts, cupcakes, coffee. sit in a cafe, buy some clothes and spend time doing nothing. I love the area and they also have great historical walking tours. I can see why many people like to call this place home.

What a beautiful little town Georgetown is. These shops and restaurants and heritage buildings give Georgetown the unique character of a small village in a big city.
A guided walking tour of Georgetown is a must!
We will return soon…

We were only able to spend a short time here as most of our three day visit was spent looking round galleries and all the larger, important places of the capital. We spent some time having an early evening strill round the area of Georgetown nearest Foggy Bottom and were very impressed with the main street. There was a great feeling of a 'village' and we loved the look of the old buildings and seeing the old stone house. Great atmosphere and wish we had more time to see everything.

We walked to the historic Georgetown area one evening during our stay in Washington DC. This was an extremely pretty area with a wide variety of shops and a beautiful waterfront area with lots of seating. There were also plenty of waterfront restaurants here although we didn't eat in any of them so am unable to comment on price or menu. It is definitely well worth a visit. You can also take a boat cruise from the harbour.

I love Georgetown's colonial facades, modern waterfront, 19th century canal (Chesapeake and Ohio, now a beautiful urban park), friendly pubs and restaurants, and trendy shops. The waterfront is my favorite spot in DC for cocktails. A pleasant contretemps to the massive Neoclassical Revival Federalist style in other parts of the city, for me it is much more approachable and welcoming. Come here to unwind.

This has a village feel, but it’s in DC proper. Don’t come looking for inexpensive. This is a trendy & chic area. Many chain shops here, but some unique local retailers too.

We walked the streets of this pretty area admiring the variation of architecture and referencing some of the notables who have lived here most famous of course the Kennedys. We intended to walk along the canal but it was partially closed off undergoing major reconstruction so we headed for the Potomac river instead.

Nice place to visit while in Washington. Nice shops and restuarants. You can take a water taxi from the wharf districtand make it a nice outing

Subdued version of midtown manhattan sans the massive structures. It seems to us that Georgetown serves as the premiere shopping and dining destination of Washingtonians.

I loved walking all over Georgetown, cute little houses and beautiful gardens, the nice boutiques and shops, interesting cafes and restaurants. It was a lovely experience overall.

We drove through, did not park. The town is quaint, historic, upscale and expensive. The Colleges here give it a different flavor, almost snobby but a credit to the city.

We stayed about 15 min walk from the main bars and restaurants. It’s so relaxing down there, everyone is friendly and so many places to eat with restaurants from all over the world
You can also head down to the river to restaurants and bars there or take a river cruise.
From there it’s a 15 mins ish walk to all the memorials to walk off the fabulous food 😁😋

Amidst the many classy hotel chains represented in this neighbourhood are some beautiful older streets with impressive architecture in the housing structures. We walked these streets several times and enjoyed the views

Shopping , eating , sightseeing and people watching are part of the visit to Georgetown . Walking along M Street is delightful . There are so many restaurants to review with all types of cuisines . The shops include boutiques , national chains , and sweets are unique and interesting . The waterfront area is a great place to run, walk and bike . It is also a wonderful place to stay at one of the hotels .

Take half a day to quietly walk round this quite compact district of DC - it is worth taking time over, the shops are great, the streets are full of history, the canal restoration will undoubtedly be a massive bonus and the harbour area is a great place to go and cool down and eat and drink

Georgetown is a city that maintains a magnificent Victorian style, full of narrow and tall houses. Highly recommended to travel by bus, preferably on the second floor of the bus. The landscape is beautiful.

Always lovely to visit and eat and shop.
However, what was once an upscale and quaint area is now over-crowded and overrun with chains. There are still great eats here. Unless you live here, getting here is half the battle.

Despite a bit of rain, we enjoyed an afternoon walking around Georgetown mostly on M street. There are many shops and eating establishments and most of people we ran into were very friendly and helpful! There are a wide variety of shops ranging from discount places to high end stores, many of which you don't find very often. Parking is a bit of a problem as we found a small lot and paid about $22 for the day, even though we were only there for about 2 1/2 hours (investigate parking places on line before you visit and you will do better). And don't forget to walk down to the canal- it's really nice particularly if the weather is good!

A relatively easy walk from the Mall. Quite a nice historic area but very busy on weekends. Found it a little too crowded, especially the bars, cafes etc.

We lucked out that the great hotel we booked was located here, close to downtown. I'd recommend it not just as a place to sleep, but spend a day enjoying its amenities.

This place has plenty to see, the main streets is full of boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. The waterfront park is great to take a stroll and enjoy the potomac river, which also has restaurant to dine in. The park has plenty of area where you can sit and enjoy the evening. The only hassle is the parking, fee to park.

There is a lot of architecture to see in the area, but it is not easy to find parking, and the traffic is heavy. We found a place to street park a few miles out, and walked.

I love Georgetown, and use to go often when my brother was in grad school there. We visited last week when we were on vacation, and it's as charming as I remembered. Lots of pretty shops and fun to wander the streets and take it all in!

Love Georgetown, really like going there and looking at all the shops and going to my favorite restaurants - a really great place.

a must place to tour while in DC, we had cocktails there, sittign on the Potomac river watching the sunset is great

The Georgetown area is full of life and eccentricity, looking for some fancy meals and upscale threads (or just people watch) then this is your spot.

Wonderful city, full of history and culture, great restaurants and friendly people, lovely architecture and beautiful streets lined with trees.

Georgetown has its own aura and colorful vibes with expensive shops, tourists milling around, cars looking for parking, traffic and long line for cupcakes. One can easily enjoy a good part of the day here. Georgetown is a wealthy aristocrat perched near Potomac river, and presents an entirely different aura from the museums, statues and government buildings for which Washington is famous for. Highly recommended, take a bus or Uber if you like to avoid parking headache.

There are shops that I am familiar with on M and Q street, so I avoided them. I came here to get a sense of Georgetown. Take a walk along the canals and side streets to see the beauty of this neighborhood. I want to live here! The waterfront is gorgeous! There are restaurants along the waterfront as well as outdoor sculptures . Georgetown is truly a gem.

We went to the water front and it was nice. The rest of the visit was really just shopping in a sea of shoppers. Not really a great thing to me, but if you like shopping the you would like this.

You feel outside the usual atmosphere in this wonderful quartier of WDC, views over the river, canoeing, restaurants, and inside the small streets the most incredible gentrified puzzle of houses, bars, small restos, colors, and tress, plants, a mix of green and romantic urban feature! Amazing

Georgetown retains much of its colonial architecture, unevenly paved streets, and charm. Excellent restaurants and shops are clustered on or near Wisconsin Avenue, M street, and the Georgetown University. There are a couple of museums (Tudor House and Dumnbarton Oaks) east of Wisconsin Avenue. Ideally, you'll have a guide to help you pick walking routes and identify particularly significant buildings. Even walking aimlessly will help you soak in the atmosphere of this historic neighborhood. A must, if time allows, during your visit to the Nation's Capital.

What a beautiful area! The canal was pretty empty and not much to look at, but the surrounding neighborhoods were beautiful.
We didn't do any shopping, but loved a long walk around the streets.

After the rounds of monuments and museums there is Georgetown. Kind of like a living museum really. Quaint archicheture in charming tree lined brick paved streets. Worth a stroll around after a busy monument/museum filled itinerary. Loys of eating options everywhere at Wisconsin St, Georgetown, and beyond.

Georgetown in the Kennedy era was where the elite lived. Now unfortunately many of the stores cater to eurotrash and high school kids pretending to be Georgetown University students. There is still a great deal of wealth there but its hidden off the main streets.

Georgetown is a beautiful suburb of Washington DC and can be accessed via metro and circulator buses. The best parts of Georgetown are the side streets where you'll find amazingly cared for heritage houses of all sorts of eras. Most are beautifully maintained and all of which are lived in. Take time to wander these back streets which are peaceful and lovely to see.

One of the most enjoyable parts of DC - filled with great stores and amazing restaurants. Georgetown is a great location to spend the day with your family.

This was our second time to visit Georgetown. The first time we simply drove through on a tour of DC. It was interesting to see the National Cathedral, embassy row, the beautiful homes, and Wisconsin Street with all the shops.
This time we did a self-guided walking tour of 10 homes in Georgetown associated with John F Kennedy. (You can find a map online to the homes as well as a description of the part they played in JFK's life.) This was a great way to see Georgetown in a way few do. You walk through the quaint streets off the tourist beat and see where the people really live. The homes are old, very attractive, and very expensive. The streets are small and compact - easy to walk. We walked up and down Wisconsin street - which is lined with shops and various places to eat. We also went into the Stone House and Tudor Place - both of which are well worth visiting.
We had a very fun and delightful day walking around Georgetown and learning about its history. It is about a 15 minute walk from the Foggy Bottom Metro stop to Georgetown.

Does anybody miss Georgetown on their trip to DC.
It's famous though nowadays shops have taken much of its old glamour. Best thong is to walk on the back or adjacent street; that's where Georgetowners live. I'm sure you'll envy those whose homes are on that area.

Thank the luck stars that planners have recognised the historic and architectural significance of this part of Washington. For ever may it be the case

Just wanted to walk around Georgetown getting a feel for this historical part of DC. The canal was being dredged so not so picturesque, but nice to see the Potomac and redeveloped waterfront, but the best bit is walking along the surprisingly peaceful streets of Georgetown.
Must see

arguably the best neighborhood in dc . such cute streets and shops. very modern and quirky. it reminds me a lot of soho in nyc!

A great place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Either breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is plenty of history as well. Use the free bus to get to here. Yes free! The bus runs from Union Station and does a few stops along the way so you can also use it to see more of Washington. If they could get the canal functioning again at Georgetown it would make a great tourist attraction. Works in the UK.

My daughter and I enjoyed a trip to Georgetown today. We went to go to a specific store, and ended up walking up and down M street, then down to the canal. The canal was dry, but still fun to explore the area. It was very crowded, even in January and during COVID, I can’t imagine how crowded it gets during better times. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but eventually found a place for $5 a day, cheap for DC!

I came to DC for a cultural trip with my family and the town is quiet at night. We went into Georgetown for dinner and we were not disappointed. The town is vibrant, and cute and a location you must visit.

Visit Georgetown when hungry! So many great places to eat, grab a cocktail and take a leisurely stroll. If visiting DC, don’t miss Georgetown. Its a nice break from the national mall area.

We were at the end of a long trip and Georgetown was a delightful spot to unwind. An eclectic mix of people and businesses.

what wonderful scenic visit; great places to see and eat; most relaxing and enjoyable; historic places and fun shopping

enjoy walking the streets that keep the flavour of the old times (XVIII and XIXth centuries); calm, relax and a beautiful University

From a waterfront park, to historic houses, to college hangouts to great restaurants - Georgetown has something for everyone. M street is a must, but we found that walking through the streets, exploring the architecture & culture is as our favorite part! Watch parking signs carefully as some are resident zones at certain times of the day!

We stayed in Georgetown during our visit to DC. It is well connected to downtown via the 30S/N metrobus, and has a nice "vibe" of its own. It has a great waterfront, some nice restaurants and friendly residents. we enjoyed our 4 days here.

Main street full of nice shops, and restaurants, side streets, expensive houses. Walk down to the riverside very pleasent.

Georgetown is a nice neighborhood in DC. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops. It is nice to walk around.

Up market Georgetown can be difficult to visit as the residents will not allow a Metro Station but it is still worth a visit for the outstanding houses and some very pleasant cafes.

If you are in Washington DC, visit Georgetown. Which is charming neighborhood with great restaurants and river views on Watergate and Kennedy Center.

So many interesting styules of architecture and stories about them. Take a walking tour to hear them!

This was my 2nd time visiting parts of Georgetown. I love the set-up of the area and the history. The shops and cafes in the main area are fun too. Definitely recommend taking a break from the crowds and going to this area.

we stopped at Nicks on the water for late dinner, the food was really good, pricey, but good. Nice water view

It's a lot of fun to walk around the old tree-lined streets. Lots of shops and restaurants. The Waterfront is also a fun place to visit.

Better for date night or special retail therapy than gaining any real sense of DC. Parking is not easy, but if you can come at a less crowded time, there are some interesting buildings to see, especially off the main drag. Try to keep in mind this once a slum. That was a very long time ago.

It's worth the detour.
Go and stroll for 3 hours in this very interesting neighborhood.
The atmosphere, the old buildings, the chic, the class, the campus of Georgetown University.

Lots of stores, fun food (Baked and Wired for cupcakes!), very pretty side streets. It's good for a visit, not a long visit.

Georgetown offers a rich collection of shops, restaurants, and bars. I would encourage you not to limit yourself to this part of Georgetown, but also to take a walk down to the tow path along the C&O canal. You can very quickly escape the city.

This is one of the stops on the Big Bus hop-on/hop-off, so it was no big deal to hop off for a quick stroll and a hot chocolate, then continue onto the next attraction. I am glad, though, that we did not go there especially, because it would have been a waste of a trip.
There is of course "the old stone house" that dates back some 250 years. But coming from Europe, that is not exactly "historical". During our visit in December the streets were beautifully Christmas-decorated, which made the place picturesque. But, really, other than the usual offering of shops and restaurants, I cannot see a good reason to deviate from The National Mall area.

A quaint area not far fromGeorge Washington University.A pleasant place to wander around, shop and buy lunch. There are many photo opportunities in the area, pretty buildings with colourful fronts and old fashioned architecture. Well worth a detour from Central Washington for an experience totally different from the grandeur of Central Washington.

Nice feel to this area with more independent shops and an olde world atmosphere. Appears to be nice place to go to university although how can any students afford the local designer shop prices?

Georgetown is a great place to visit for a pace change, much more sedate with enough to go and see to make it worth a visit

I walked around Georgetown in August 2021 on a hot and humid day. I walked from 20th and E (Foggy Bottom / George Washington University) to Georgetown (M and 32nd). I had not been to Georgetown in a long time. It is still full of restaurants and stores and quite crowded, even on a weekday. My favorite restaurant Filomena's is still there although it was too crowded to eat there. I also looked quickly at the canal but did not walk down to the harbor. The challenge with Georgetown is getting there. My walk to Georgetown was 2 miles and took 40 minutes. I walked around Georgetown for around two hours and then took the Circulator bus to 20th and M. In the past we had always driven to Georgetown and parked at Wisconsin and M.

We took a boat over to Georgetown. Georgetown is a great place to spend the afternoon. Definitely a lot of stores to shop and restaurants and cafes to people watch and enjoy a great meal.

Georgetown is really pretty with beautiful old houses and many independent stores. It is, however, very busy and so feels quite chaotic.
The restaurants are often heaving and sidewalks so busy to even walk down

Georgetown is a wonderful neighborhood for shopping, eating and drinking. It’s also great just for strolling and people-watching.

Didn’t have a lot of time to visit, since after all we were there to see the most important parts of the capital. But if I had had more time, we would have explored more. We had dinner there and walked down to the river and back. So what we saw and did was fun and beautiful.

When the weather permits, it's a great street to shop and dine. The people watching is great as well. It's a lively and busy street and a must see.

I wanted to see much more of this place, but just poped into a few stores on the highstreet. really nice vibe, and will certainly be back

Had to walk through Georgetown a few times to get to various places within the area, and it was a nice experience and atmosphere. I was however disappointed that the path following the canal was closed off at the time I was there.
My main complaint is that it is very far away from any metro stations, making my trip there quite the walk from my origin point. I suppose that does help to preserve its old-fashioned charm, however.

It is the "original" neighborhood of Washington, unfortunately poorly connected to the rest of the city. It feels like entering another city, with elegant colored houses with characteristic bow windows, and a more human and urban dimension with many restaurants and commercial activities. Don't miss the Georgetown Park shopping center, the elegant Washington Harbor complex along the Potomac and the area along the inner canal. For the bravest there is also the famous Exorcist staircase.

They have great restaurants scenic harbor and river channel views, lots of store and shops and historical places and even ghost and film references. It is a great town to eat, shop, and tour.

A walkable area of the city with historic buildings and charming shops. We enjoyed eating at Martin’s Tavern and getting ice cream nearby at the famous Thomas Sweet,

Our group thought we would see cute boutiques. We were all dismayed to find more name brand shops. Would not recommend. You have many more choices available to discover.

I called at 12:30 to verify the store was open and they confirmed they were. However, upon making the drive to the store they were closed at 2:00 pm. I was very disappointed as this was the second time I tried to shop at this establishment and they were closed. Both times were during the day.

We have never been to Georgetown so we took a walk. Nice shops, great day for a walk. Stopped at the University to walk around. Toward mid day very crowded. Restaurants seemed overpriced. Once is enough.

Do not understand the hype around this place, few shops and dinning places (most of the look like toursit traps)- nothing special about, after 30-60 min of wondering around you'll start looking for other options.
Might be more evaluated by the local students around but for the casual toursit I would recommed to look for other places

Georgetown very popular but quite 'Benidormish' to us Brits. It was Labor Day weekend so maybe that was the reason but God was it packed and busy. Seen far quieter Mediterranean islands where you could sup a glass of wine and relax less than 3 hours away.

Lovely old style town with lots of nice shops and restaurants and eateries. The Circulator Bus only costs $1 and goes between Georgetown & Union Station. There is a great cake shop called Georgetown Cupcakes which does lots of different flavours

Maybe the nicest neighborhood I have ever seen in USA. Excellent walking tour with nice small streets, old beautiful houses and Georgetown University was amazing...also the waterfront is a beautiful place to spend some quality time.

Highlight of my Washington DC tip, hire a bike or scooter and follow the river to Georgetown. Shop, eat and spend the afternoon/evening.

This part of the city is a must visit. The architecture and history are amazing and there are so many places to stop and see.
Go down the side streets and look at the homes.

Lovely spot. Perfect for morning stroll/jogging. Cute buildings and nice layout. Been there almost everyday while I was in DC.

Take the circle bus for free or underground, beautiful houses, streets. Very nice shopping! Great restaurants, cup cake shops. Definitely worth a visit!

If you get the chance go to Georgetown and walk and explore all through it! So much to see and do. Very historic but also relevant!

I know embassies are right next block to Georgetown, but that does not mean city officials have to put too much attention on security but not enough on cleaning trash floating around the streets here.

We like going here when we visit to just walk around and visit the shops and restaurants here. We were lucky to get into Finomena's for dinner with no reservations. With great weather, we had a great time!

These neighborhoods are definitely worth a stroll around! Lots of shops- my daughter liked H & M, Aerie, Urban Outfitters but they have a TJ Maxx, lots of food options, a couple tourist-type stores, juice and coffee bars, etc. We got there from DV via MetroBus with one transfer (easy) and then got back to DC via MetroBus to the Rosslyn Station and then took the Metro back to DC. It’s easy to load money on the SmarTrip app and just tap your phone when you get on the MetroBus or train. Weekend trips are cheap or free and most day trips cost us $2- MUCH less than an Uber.

A famous Washington neighborhood. Nice colorful houses, nice restaurants, cafes, shops. The water front was a bit old. There was nothing special about it. It is recommended to spend there a couple of hours, strolling around the houses.

This is truly an amazing piece of art. Georgetown is a place to learn and have fun. Through A tour I was able to learn both history as well as art though Acquired Taste Food Tours.

So neat to see the historical buildings as well as how they have made the transition to modern. The city is a great place to stay when visiting DC. A short subway ride and you are downtown DC.

What a great little town. Lots of shops and restaurants. And lets not forget DC cupcakes. they alone are worth the trip.

From the romantic to the vibrant and exciting feelings, this town provides smart and interesting memories for anyone who visits. From eclectic restaurants, historic buildings, gardens, weeping willow-lined canal paths, renown universities, and great places to shop, this town will stick in your memory forever.
Start at the Key Bridge end of Avenue 'M' heading East and visit Georgetown University and the famous 1789 Restaurant (historic and classy $$$$); ease back down to Avenue M and check out the canal (especially when full); stop by the Sea Catch Restaurant right on the Canal then walk back up to the avenue and have a breakfast or pick up some vegetables/fruits at Dean & Deluca Market. Stop at any of the clothing stores on either side of the avenue and head down to Wisconsin Avenue off of Ave M and grab some lunch at a bowling lane or bocci alley at Pinstripes. Close by are a beautiful mall, bookstores and the eclectic Filomena restaurant whose Sunday brunches are famously different.
After lunch grab a Garden tour through Georgetown Garden Club 202-965-1950. Wrap the day up (if you can still stand) art the La Chaumiere French restaurant if you can get a seat.

I have never been to Georgetown but my pre trip impression would be an ivy elite college town. After today, I had to check the map to remind me we were in Georgetown. For a pre Memorial Day weekend, I thought the town was dirty and upkept with garbage littering the streets. There are absolutely no benches to sit and meandor down M street. Francis Scott Key park, with majestic views of the Potomac is in disrepair and overgrown with wisteria, hiding the views of graffiti and lack of maintenance. #disappointed

We love doing free tours by foot when in large historical cities. Our guide, a young lady, I think her name was Ingleborg who regaled us in tales of the cities development. My husband is a bit of a history buff and she managed to sneak some fascinating stories by that even he had not heard of. Highly recommend this tour.

Georgetown is lovely. Its such a beautiful part of our city, There is so much history, and fun things to do.

Nice town with a lot of boutiques. A great whisky/bourbon/rye store.
We walked all the way up and down and to the river to have a glas of wine
A really nice place to go when you are in DC

We walked to Georgetown from out hotel across the bridge. A lot bigger than expected. Endless shops and streets. Walked just a little then took the bus to DC.

Georgetown is a wonderful area of DC that is easily accessible and quite walkable once you get there. Located along the Potomac, there are lots of local shops, restaurants and of course wonderful neighborhoods to meander through.
If you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of the city, take some time out and breathe in Georgetown.

All 3 of my kids got their degrees there, and all have successful carees, snd lasting frienships. The pus is worth taking a tour evn if you dpn't have children aplying there.

Beautiful brownstones lovingly restored/kept up. Quaint, quiet neighbourhood just to wander about in. I loved my time there!

I used to visit Georgetown in the 1980s and 90s. One of the attractions was a street traffic officer who had a flashy way of directing traffic at the M street intersection. Anyway the street seems to have deteriorated in facade appearance, quality of shops and just overall. There'e really not much of a reason to go there unless you want to shop a specific boutique store or have lunch. Lacks Luster and appeal in general.

Enjoyed strolling across Georgetown neighbourhood. Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. Great ice cream shop Thomas Sweet' on Winconsin Ave.

Close to D.C. downtown and the Mall. You have to stop into Georgetown Cupcakes. They are amazing and they have many varieties. World famous !

A lovely part of the city, a visit to the capital is incomplete without a walk / drive through its streets just to get a glimpse of life out there.
Really wanted to see Georgetown University what an amazing campus and the history and architecture is outstanding. Then walked down through the town with its quaint cobblestone streets, the lovely restore cottages add to the atmosphere. Some great retail therapy and dining choices as well
