Relaxing , sitting next to babbling brook. If you prefer shade, many tables and chairs under pergola. Grapes still in the vine but probably for another month!

On 5/29/2022 my wife and I visited GFW. A very nice staff person told my wife and I where some unoccupied chairs were. We went and asked a lady who was sitting beside the unoccupied chairs if we could have one. She said yes no problem no one is sitting here. I picked up one chair then heard a voice yelling NO,NO,NO! This man was the owner Mr. Tatum. Mr. Tatum came up to me and grabbed the chair out of my hand. Mr. Tatum was obviously intoxicated and very rude. We have visited this winery for over two years at least once a month. Also the porta potties are Disgusting, and unsanitary. In short great music, okay wine, drunk Belligerent owner. Luckily there are many Great wineries in the area. Banner Elk here we come. We invite you there as well

Beautiful location. Very professional & friendly staff . We had flights and took them out to sit by the river. Very relaxing and great wine.

Looking for something to do on a drizzly afternoon, we stopped by Grandfather Vineyard. We found 4 adirondak chairs under a tree by the creek and claimed our spot! Had a wonderful afternoon with my husband, adult daughter and mother! We each got a glass of a different type of wine and had our own tasting. Then my daughter and I did the tasting in the tasting room, and picked out some different kinds to buy for later. There were families with kids there - parents sipping wine & kids playing in the creek. A deer even came down the creek while we were there!
Wine was pretty good, but most of all, it was a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

We arrived to find a Blue Grass Band playing. A family friendly place and dogs welcomed too. Had a nice selection on the tasting and was given the glass also. We ended up getting a full case with 15% off each bottle and the wine tasting & glass were free with the purchase of a full case. We sat outside and enjoyed some of the wine we had just purchased

We came for a wine tasting and left with 3 bottles of wine! We liked all the wines that we tried - settled for the merlot, the white & the blueberry. These are all quality wines, a bit pricey, but we wanted some wine to take home with us. We enjoyed a glass of wine outside. Beautiful grounds & a beautiful day.

Stopped by with work colleagues when visiting Boon. We did the wine tasting at the bar then bought our favourite bottle of red and sat by the river in the sun. Great place to come and relax on a sunny day.

It is a small place just off the 105 hwy . The experience wasn't as good as other vinery we have been. The staff didn't pay much attention to us and it seems like they wanted to rush through. We liked the raspberry wine . It was so delicious!! W

Fantastic spot to spend some time. Tables and chairs set up by the river. Nice cool breeze. We enjoyed the wine tasting very much and even purchased a couple of bottles to take home. Children and dogs playing in the water. Gorgeous vineyard. Nice rode through the mountains. Who could ask for more? This spot is a must visit!

We arrived shortly after opening on a Thursday and we had a great wine tasting to celebrate our anniversary. The two ladies were very nice and we got to meet the dogs. We chose a glass to share and sat out by the water to enjoy a picnic we had brought with us. We had a great time and would have stayed longer but we had a tour planned at Apple Hill Farm.

Local vineyard and winery just off the highway. Beautiful setting, great wines and the scenery and atmosphere make everyone feel welcome.
It's a great place to spend a lazy afternoon with the family, enjoying some wine next to the creek that runs near or strolling through the vineyard with a wineglass in your hand.
There was live music when we were there which made it even more special.

A relaxing place to have some wine after a busy day. Sitting by the creek is pleasant. The wine flight was average, no great finds

We arrived shortly before closing unfortunately (be sure to check opening times as they closed very early). Parking was very tight as they had a private event on that evening. We did the small dry white tasting inside and enjoyed the wine but I would suggest doing the larger tasting (appeared to be much better value and can be taken outside to enjoy). Although it was close to closing the staff didn’t rush us and allowed us to buy a bottle of wine and drink it outside next to the river which we did and enjoyed very much! Recommend for a short visit and bottles to take away (good value).

Scenery is gorgeous! Wines are really good...bought a bottle of the Sweet Creek Red and sat by the beautiful creek with mountains in the background to enjoy. Live band, great place to spend the afternoon.

On a sunny day with a good band, there is no place better in the mountains for a glass of wine! Saw the Johnson Brothers on Sunday and earlier this summer. Both times were wonderful -- the band, the gorgeous views, and the great wine. The Pinot Noir and Sparkling Rose are excellent. You can bring in your own food -- just no outside alcohol. They have opened a new parking lot, which has greatly improved parking. Be sure to ask to see the puppy!

wine was awesome - BUT staff was rude and out of touch..they need a reset on customer service - they are so bad

Just a really cool winery and tourist/local visit. We went twice. Sat creekside once, then near the outdoor music venue. Quite nice wines of most tastes. Very nice staff. Several local resorts have discount coupons for the winery.

Visited this Winery this past weekend and had a great time this election is amazing the tasting was wonderful and you even get your glass we enjoyed a bottle of wine and bought some local cheese and crackers to go along with it and enjoy it done and out by the river

This is our favorite Vineyard ....really nice venue. Come sit by the river with your fave wine. The tasting as great and the prices by the bottle are reasonable. We often bring snacks, sit and enjoy the wonderful venue. Live music with local groups like the Corklickers makes for a Perfect Sunday.

We were out viewing the October colors and decided to try this vineyard. It was not busy, as we were there on a Monday. But this is their VERY busy time with all of the people who flock to the mountains during Fall. We were given a menu and the young girl behind the counter explained how the tasting went. We chose to do a wine flight of 4 wines which included a souvenir glass. I tasted the whites and my husband tasted the reds. The wines were very good, and the young girl knew a lot about wines. But what I was most impressed with was the setting...it was gorgeous (pictures attached), with the river running beside it. You could buy a bottle of wine and go sit out in the chairs by the river, or you could sit directly outside the winery with a view of the grapes. The landscaping was beautiful. It's worth a stop if you are visiting the High Country. The wine flight was $6.00 (4 tastes plus the glass to keep), and most bottles of wine ran an average of $20.00.

relax by the babbling stream and listen to good music by the winery building. the creeekside is shaded by treees and they have ample chairs and tables to have a picnic. Buy a bottle or a glass of wine and enjoy!

My husband and I stopped at Grandfather Vineyard to sample the local wines. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety and flavors available - all produced at this vineyard. We sipped our sample of delicious wines by a beautiful stream outside the tasting room. I do plan to return there on my next trip to the area.

Grandfather Winery is my wife and my favorite place to visit in the NC High Country. The ambiance is wonderful, it is family friendly with a stunning view of Grandfather Mountain. The wine is very good and they have good local cheeses and snacks to choose from. On the weekends they have great local music as well. The staff is very attentive, informative and friendly. It is a hidden gem that is a must see if you are visiting the High Country.

When joyed coming here for the wine tasting. I had the Reds and my husband had the whites. The location is absolutely beautiful; however, we missed the whole ambience due to the rain. They were very friendly there and even let my son play with their dog! Very friendly and I would highly recommend visiting their winery!

Very nice winery! We went on a beautiful Friday afternoon and they had delightful live music. The food truck The Ham Shoppe had great food. The wine was very nice - recommend getting a flight to try several wines. Property was very nice! Definitely would come back.

Great place to spend an afternoon drinking wine & listening to music at the dog friendly place. A major downer is the one hole indoor bathroom to accommodate the crowds.

We visited for our first time and were so impressed we returned the next day. The wine tasting was good. The food truck was good. The music and atmosphere were good. We will be back!

We revisited this winery on a rainy weekday, as opposed to our last time, a sunny Saturday, and it was quieter, easier to park and less frenetic. The salesperson who did our tadting was very perky and pleasant . . . the wines produced are still young and less complex than I like. We did buy one bottle if Barberra as a gift. Pretty place w/ picnic options along the creek and under the pergola so it might be fun w/ family.

Grandfather's vineyard has a really special atmosphere for their wine tasting. The wines are arranged logically according to the individual's taste. Each wine is explained in detail. After the tasting, we purchased glasses of our favorites and enjoyed them on the pleasant arbor covered patio. You get to keep the glass as a memento of a classy tasting. Don't miss this one!

Excellent venue looking up at the vineyard while drinking wine & enjoying live music. A most enjoyable day. There's a beautiful stream running through the property with entrance to the vineyard over a single lane bridge.

Decided after several days of hiking and exploring the area we could run to a winery. Grandfather vineyards was a wonderful surprise. I had read in another review to bring lawn chairs but we never used them. We lucked into some very comfortable Adirondack chairs. We purchased two flights one was the reds, the other was the sweet wines. Both had some wines we enjoyed. I added some cheese and crackers, my bill was around $43. These were enjoyed by a babbling creek where we could hear music being played and watched several vineyard dogs chase sticks in the water and kids playing in the water and crossing rocks. Absolutely a relaxing day to spend an afternoon.

Setting is great for relaxing, enjoying the company, a great glass of wine, with a small creek running through the area. The service is very professional, friendly and always ready to provide the service U expect.

This is a little side of the road place that has a bit of a surprising relaxed comfort with chairs on the side of the river. You’ve got to bring your own food, but worth a nice afternoon chat.

What a great place to spend a late afternoon! The people running this place are definitely on to something - very relaxed atmosphere, great tables/chairs set up down by the river or up closer to the building on a deck with heaters. Very easy to find a spot to relax and drink a bit of wine. The 5-glass flights were fantastic! Very pet friendly, as well. We were sad that their open hours weren't longer, but it was a GREAT place to have a glass of wine before heading off to dinner. Went here twice in the span of 5 days. Highly recommend!

Hey STEVE:
You have a done wonders with this place. I have heard from other LMC and ASU alumni about your vineyard and it is the perfect spot for tasting and enjoying a take out lunch. When I spoke with someone earlier in the day, they reminded that you and family had started this vineyard in addition to your gallery.
Great job and see you again. We bought a bottle for lunch and another to take home for dinner

Great place and best wine out of all the winery's in the area. If you have been here in the past you should try it again...the wine maker has stepped up to top quality! My big complaint is the music selection for Sunday's. "Old time Rock N Roll" just don't cut it for wine sipping! How bout some Jazz, or some new age, or even better "deep house lounge"?? Anyway, it's a beautiful spot, give it a try!😉

We packed a lunch brought the dog and kids and enjoyed the afternoon. There is a creek for kids to play in, which kept them busy for the afternoon. The wine was ok, but the atmosphere was fabulous!

They have a nice variety of wine. We enjoyed it very much and will go back next time we are in this area.

If you like to visit wineries, Grandfather is a must! Excellent tasting room, offering cheese trays and wine to snack on w/ creek side chairs!
Beautiful decor!

Stopped in to buy some gifts and if we had more time, would have stayed and relaxed ourselves. It appeared to have a great variety of wines to taste and buy, wonderful seating both on a porch and creek side. So peaceful and quiet.

This was my second visit to Grandfather Winery and it was wonderful. My husband and I enjoyed a wine tasting and then took our selections with delicious Ashe County cheese and crackers and sat next to the gorgeous river in Andirondack chairs and just chilled - it was a wonderful experience! There are plenty of covered places to sit in the event of rain. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing activity while in the area.

Great wine, tons of seating options for couples or for large groups. Got a charcuterie board and a wine flight, and sat under the canopy since it was raining. We had a great time!

Excellent winery with music, food trucks, chairs, umbrellas & tables, mountain scenery & a stream, plus very good wines. It’s one of those places that is normally crowded. So don’t be in a hurry….just relax and enjoy.

This winery is one of our favorites. Great family owned business and staff is always friendly. Even though it was very crowded on Sunday the atmosphere was lively and fun with live music which is a plus. The wines are consistently good so we will definitely be back and encourage others to do the same.

My friends and I came for a chill afternoon. The property is beautiful, albeit appears small. We went inside for a wine tasting and the staff were pleasant and informative. Then we bought a bottle of wine with crackers and cheese to take down to the creek and a bottle to go. Their white wines were great! My one recommendation for the snacking is that #1 they offer a few more food options and #2 they serve the food on a legitimate glass plate with a cheese knife instead of paper plates and plastic knives... It's difficult to cut the current way and that one fix would greatly improve the aesthetic. They have seating (chairs, benches, tables) scattered above and alongside the creek for a relaxing time! Their dog also roams the property so if you love dogs, Casey will run right up for some petting.

We stopped by while we were in the area and did the tasting of sweet wines. All were delicious and we chose one to buy a bottle of but will probably be getting more. The grounds are beautiful and next time we will bring a picnic lunch with us so we can enjoy the tranquility of the area more.

Great winery with beautiful scenery, outdoor and covered seating. Dog friendly. Food truck on site. We did a tasting last year, and this year, we shared a bottle of their Cav Sav, Prevanance. Very pleasant.

Visited with girlfriends on a Sunday. It was a beautiful day and they had live entertainment. We stayed the whole day and tasted most of their wines. Not only is this a great venue but their wines are delicious ! I usually struggle to find good red wine on the east coast but theirs was good. They have 2 ciders also (raspberry was our favorite). They have a food truck on site which was delicious! Definitely try the pimento Cheese fritters and fried Brussel sprouts. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely stop back by !

This was my second visit. The first time I went was in the Summer months and it was lovely. Just spent the wknd in Blowing Rock and made it a point to go back. The atmosphere is so relaxing. Fire pit going, comfortable outside seating, great tasting room. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. Great selection of wine, cheeses, and gifts. Love that it is pet friendly. Only negative is there is only one restroom.

You can sample 4 different wines or take a bottle if your favourite and go sit outside by the creek. Beautiful way to spend a few hours with good friends. Wines were pretty good too!!

Beautiful place, can take dogs & bring picnic. Nice views sit by creek or under gazebo. Very nice fun side trip. Very friendly place.

The staff is friendly and this is a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine. When the weather is nice you can sit by the river. The patio area is nice and it is a great place for a family event.

Very relaxing and the wine was delicious! We enjoyed sitting by the stream with our wine and cheese/crackers. It was a nice ending to our day.

This place never disappoints! They have a great food truck as well. Call ahead and make sure it’s there. Usually only on the weekends.

What a fun place to visit! We stopped by here while we were in visiting Grand Father Mountain. So glad we did. The vineyard is very pretty and tucked away. It’s really easy to miss while you’re driving by. We decided to get a wine flight and got to listen to some live music. The wine was pretty good.

The wines are generally delightful, and the atmosphere is worth the visit. Sit in the river on a lawn chair while you taste, or do as we did, and enjoy the huge patio and walk among the vines. The 2-year old with us enjoyed wandering around the spacious outdoor venue and playing with the many dogs who were visiting with their families! Even people who are particular about their wines will find these to be surprisingly good, the sparkling wine (my favorite) was wonderful! The red blend, the cab, the whites and rose', all were good and enjoyed by our whole group. Get a wine flight, it comes in a unique iron holder that's part of the fun!

The vineyard gets really crowded (even on a Tuesday), but they have plenty of seating by a nice little river or on a couple of patios overlooking the vines. Very surprised with the quality of the wines, since you don't often get good ones from the wineries in NC. We loved the Syrah and bought a bottle to take home. Staff was very nice and they were very organized. Will definitely go back!

Pouring down rain and cold did not drown our good times! Great crowd, live music, good vibe, and people of all ages from babies to grandparents and everyone in between. Excellent vino and food truck as well! Beautiful piece of property. My girlfriend and I had the best time here. Check it out!

This is a smaller winery. My daughter and I went for a tasting. The wine was pretty good and the host was very knowledgeable about each wine. Tasting was $6 for four red wines or $7 for five white sweet wines. There is outdoor seating and seating by the creek.

Had a great time! Several tasting options for different palettes. I don't think all the grapes are grown there, but wine is pretty good. The service was great. Definitely worth the view and experience!

Just spent a very pleasant afternoon listening to music and sipping wine. I felt like I was in Napa Valley. It was busy but not overly crowded. We enjoyed bringing our dog and visiting with the other patrons. Would definitely return.

Such a nice winery. Sitting by the creek was so relaxing and fun. Nice evening for sure. You will not be disappointed.

We visited and each had a red or white tasting and I really enjoyed the Riesling. The staff was very helpful and knowledge. After our tasting we each purchased glasses and were able to sit out under trees in chairs near the stream, which was very relaxing. There are plenty of tables and chairs for people to relax and enjoy the wine. They sell some snacks and children were playing in the stream. I would recommend checking out this winery.

A wonderful place to relax and sip a glass of wine! The view of Grandfather Mountain is so beautiful and the creek is a great place to bring a picnic. We love it here!

It is always a pleasure to find North Carolina wines that are not sweet. These wines do not disappoint you.

Really nice afternoon at the Grandfather Winery! Went there apres ski with my husband and 2 kids. We had 2 wine flights (surprisingly good) + cheddar and crackers. There was live music playing and the vibe was really cool!!

Great wine. Beautiful scenery. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Crackers and cheese for sale along with the tastings. Very affordable tastings and bottles of wine. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Grandfather Winery seems to be suffering from their own success. We visited in August of 2018, and there were in excess of 200 people. Our two previous visits were enjoyable. This time, the two workers doing tastings barely acknowledged us, were just short of rude. The wine is decent, not extraordinary. The live music was not enjoyable.

Great location, awesome areas to enjoy a tasting or a bottle...or just a glass full of delicious wine. My favorite was the Pinot Noir.

Wine flights are preselected. No indoor seating which is unfortunate. They have a hornet issue which is common, if not treated, in wineries. This is not accommodating to those allergic to hornets stings (bees, as many call them).

Even if you don't drink wine, the winery is perched alongside a picturesque stream and is one of our favorite places to unwind. But since we do drink wine, Grandfather is one of our favorite places to taste and purchase savory wines and delicious cheeses. The owners are delightful and their staff are always eager to please. We always take our guests to the winery for a day of beautiful scenery and worthwhile tastings.

We enjoyed our trip to Grandfather mountain winery, some good wines and we went outside and had our wine by the creek that runs through the property. It was relaxing and enjoyable.

Enjoy a wine tasting and set by the river to enjoy a bottle. We come by every time we visit. Always worth the trip.

What an unexpected delight! Anything "vineyard" and I'm there. This scenic little place is worth the stop in. The flights of wine were perfectly explained by our host (an adorable strawberry blonde that met her fiance there!) and then we got a glass of wine and sat out by the brook on their Adirondack chairs and enjoyed the beautiful scenery with a glass of their VERY GOOD WINE. I'll definitely go back.

The winery is a great spot for an afternoon outing. The location is beautiful and the service was friendly. It was so nice to sit and listen to music and sip wine after a morning of hiking. There were lots of families with small children and it was a great atmosphere.

Grandfather Vineyard and Winery produces some of the best wines in the High Country. Even though Grandfather is a relative new vineyard their wines have more mature taste than other wineries in the area. Their vintners that host the wine tastings and sell the wines are very knowledgeable about wines and help make the experience of visiting the vineyard a pleasant experience. The setting, beside the Watauga River, adds to the atmosphere of a visit to the picturesque vineyard.. During the summer musical entertainment on the weekends makes Grandfather Vineyard and Winery a must attend destination in the High Country.

This was absolutely a great surprise. The grounds are beautiful
The wine is delightful..such a gem for the high country. The food trucks are delicious. The live music was very entertaining.

We stop every time we're in the area. Have a wine tasting or just buy a bottle, then go sit by the stream in one of the chairs provided and enjoy life. Bring a snack if you'd like.

Thoroughly enjoyed OUR WINE TASTING at this winery. Friendly staff. Great outside accommodations if you want to just have a bottle of wine with friends and enjoy the quaint and quiet atmosphere. Kick back in a chair by the creek and enjoy some excellent wine. Watched the staff work on the hill amongst the vines before we left. Reds, whites, sweets...something for everyone. Get a bottle for yourself, then another for a gift! Great wine is always appreciated!

Nice little vineyard on the banks of the Watauga River. Wine tastings. Get a glass or a bottle and sit by the river. Nice band music on Sunday afternoon. Attracted a large crowd. Friendly owners. Good wines, too.

Visited the winery as part of my 74th birthday celebration. The vineyard is small providing only a small portion of the grapes that make the wine. Most of the grapes come from other sources but all the wine is produced there. There’s a nice stream running through the property with picnic tables on the bank to taste and savor the wine. I tried the dry red flight consisting of 4 red wines. My favorite was the petite Syrah, a full bodied red. Nice place to escape the heat and hustle bustle and enjoy this wonderful beverage.

We spent the afternoon with delicious wines by outdoor heaters and a wood burning fire. There is seating inside and out as well as along the river for a relaxing experience. The wines we tried were very good. Even on a cold drizzly day we enjoyed the outdoor pavilion. Cheese and wine are available for purchase as well to go along with the tastings. We opted for a bottle to share. We can’t wait to return.

Just got back from a relaxing week in the mountains and Grandfather Vineyard was a nice part of the trip. The wines are good but sitting by the river enjoying a glass was pretty hard to beat. Definitely a place to stop if you like wine tasting.

We enjoyed taking a glass of wine out to the beautiful patio area and relaxing in the NC Spring weather!

We enjoyed a 2 1/2 day stay with friends in the Boone / Blowing Rock / Banner Elk area. We always enjoy visiting wineries and Grandfather Vineyard and Winery proved to be one of our favorites on our 10 day Blue Ridge Parkway getaway.
The outdoor setting is lovely, with wonderful views of the mountains and nearby stream. There were dozens of tables, all safely spread apart. Even though the weather had turned chilly, there was live music (an unexpected surprise), food trucks and lots of very good wine. Sometimes the southern wineries concentrate too much on sweet and fruity wines, but not here. There was a wide range of whites and reds, both dry and sweet.
We were very pleased with our visit and plan to come again when we are next in the area.

Due to Covid-19 we weren’t able to do a tasting, but we did a flight instead. Beautiful property with a very classy atmosphere, the wine is excellent too.

Would not recommend. Asked for a sweet flight. Lady in front of me got one. I asked for one and was told no with no explanation. When I inquired a little further the lady was extremely rude and told me they were out and I was too late. It was an hour and 15 minutes from closing. I understand they do a last call 30 minutes from closing but she could have been nicer about it if they were out of flight glasses. The same experience happened to others behind me. Very disappointed and will not be back or recommend my friends.

A beautiful bucolic setting where you can social distance if you make the effort. Getting a glass/bottle of wine was well organized and efficient. Relaxing music that was not overpowering (You could actually carry on a conversation.) Parking could be an issue on a busy day but the overflow lot is an easy walk.

A really neat place. If you are bringing children with you, pack a picnic. There's only a bit on offer for food. Wine was great. The setting- right on the side of a creek, in the shade, with comfortable seating, was wonderful. But be AWARE. They close at 6. Our first time there, we arrived at 5:45. So go early, pack food, and watershoes for the kids, if they want to go into the creek. I tried the chardonnay, the pinot noir and the rose. All very good. They also have cider to try, but that'll have to wait to next time.

Great wine. Cool atmosphere. Nice outside seating. Good service staff. Had the red blend California scholar. Great wine.

Lovely winery next to a pretty stream. Lots of comfortable sitting areas in a variety of settings. Live music. Decent wines to sample. What’s not to enjoy?

The area has so many seatings area with great views. Especially next to the creek where the kids can play in. The sweet wines were delicious. Great to just hang around and enjoy the fresh air.

My husband & I were in the area on vacation again for several days & our trip would not be complete without a visit to Grandfather Vineyard & Winery.
The Winery was busy the day we were here with lots of people sitting outside by the porch, kids were running & playing down in the bottom by the Watauga River, couples were enjoying their wines and conversation in some comfortable adirondack chairs spread out across the edge of the rocks and along the river banks.
There are additional chairs and picnic tables along the flat bottom that runs along the Watauga River. It is located right across from the parking lot.
We went by the Tasting Room to get a glass of wine and have a seat along the river and "just enjoy the day"....wonderful & relaxing indeed!
Grandfather Vineyard & Winery is one of our favorite places to visit whenever we are in the area. You can play some corn-hole games or crochet in the yard along side of the Tasting Room as you admire the vineyards that are spread out along the hillside.

This was our second year to the winery. The selection for the wine tasting was very good. We ended up buying a mixed case of several different wines. I think that offering some snacks during the tasting even for a fee would be beneficial. I need a little something when I'm there and end up buying wafer crackers!

Grandfather Vineyard not only has very good wines for North Carolina, but it’s also a great spot for chilling by the stream on a beautiful day! On the weekends they have bands and a fantastic food truck with lobster rolls that I constantly crave! They offer wine tastings with a souvenir glass, or you can do a wine flight with 4 wines of your choice. It’s so relaxing here!

Beautiful setting to enjoy a wine tasting. You're offered two choices of 8 wines (8 sweet or 8 dry) and keep the souvenir glass. My friend and I enjoyed a tasting then ordered a glass and enjoyed sipping on this while seated in one of the adirondack chairs placed along the banks of the river

What a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. Beautiful views of grandfather mountain ! Plenty of seating all over.

A nice stop by for a flight of wine tasting (4 - 2 OZ pours) of your choice. It has a "ski lodge" atmosphere and is casual and rustic. You can buy some cheese and crackers (retail) and then take a table and enjoy your wines. Fun!

Beautiful spot with plenty of outside seating. Babbling brook along side the shaded seating and also a large deck area. Enjoyed the tasting well enough to take several bottles home. Nice visit!

I had a glass of Appalachia bubbly and sat by the creek. It was very relaxing. The wine was good. I would go back.

I knew the North Carolina mountains had a lot of great breweries, but I was pleasantly surprised with our experience at many of its wineries. Grandfather Mountain Vineyards is no exception. It's family owned, and its Legend series of wines are top notch and decorated by a quaint and authentic label depicting the vineyard's owner and his dog. It's definitely worth a visit for a tasting. Our current favorite is the Terraced Gold. May switch to the Legacy Zinfandel in the colder months.

It was rainy and cold when we visited, but the heaters kept us cozy. I would love to visit when you can enjoy the sides around the creek. Wine was ok.... Nothing impressive

Decided to check out this winery during a weekend getaway. The winery sits next to the Watauga River and has a nice seating area to enjoy a glass or wine. They offer a variety of wines and guests can choose to a tasting or get a glass/bottle to enjoy.

Delicious wine.
The tasting was a great experience!
I was pleased that they were pet friendly, we all had a very nice time..

they just reopened after the hurricane. what a beautiful place… kids and adults can go up the hill/vineyard. there is a food truck that serves food. u can sip wine by the creek or by the courtyard while a local band is playing. what a gem! came on a holiday so a lot of people where there.
Our family enjoyed this . i would recommend to add bathroom/ toilet. The portalet just kills the whole ambiance. A bottle of wine is around 30 usd on an average. love the vibe of this place. will return

Luv..luv..this place.🌸 So relaxing absolutely beautiful great for couples, romantic, beautiful scenery, nice staff and great wine🍷 Thank you.
The Middleton's ..New Smyrna Beach, Fl.

This is the most quaint of the wineries in the Banner Elk area and deserves a visit simply for its charm and hospitality. The wines here are not our favorites, although we did buy a bottle of the Riesling. The young woman (I can't remember her name but she is studying Nutrition) who did our wine tasting was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and engaged. The cabin-like tasting room with its fireplace, rocking chairs and two house dogs will win you over.

The Grandfather Vineyard and Winery is in a beautiful spot right next to a babbling stream. Lots of flights of wine are available to try for reasonable prices. Lots of comfy sitting areas to relax, chat and enjoy the wine.

Good wine. More outdoor seating needed. Attended with 2 elderly relatives and no place to sit and listen to the music. Beautiful setting, excellent Rhett but could be more friendly with accommodations. One bathroom for 100, at least, people.

This is very much a place to stop and explore when driving through the area . >> Family-Owned Winery in Banner Elk, NC<< . The area is scenic and beautiful. I can only imagine how lovely it is in the peak of the season.

We stopped by early to eat lunch by the creek and had a wonderful time with a great view. We then did the wine tasting and had the sweet wines all of which were very good. Afterwards we bought a bottle of the hard cider and went back out to the creek and talked with the other wine tasters there. It was a very pleasant experience and we got to keep our glasses from the tasting as a souvenir.

Great wines and a very relaxing atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting by the river and taking in the views. Pet friendly and live music is a plus.

We returned over Labor Day Saturday for music and wine. The Johnson Brothers provided great live music. Fun had by all. Weather and setting provided wonderful afternoon. They do need more restroom facilities

Very peaceful, nice outside areas. Purchased a sweet muscadine wine, look forward to drinking with pasta or cheese and crackers.

My husband and I drove around the area and stopped by for a tasting. We had the flight of various wines. Bought half a case and enjoyed our time there. We got a glass to walk outside to where they have chairs to sit by the river.

Love this wine Vineyard. There are several in our area and this is our fav!! It's smaller but quaint! Beautiful grandfather and river views!!!!

Buy a glass or bottle of wine and snag a seat in the shade by the creek. This is a wonderful spot to slow down and listen to the water running across the rocks. Souvenir glasses come with wine purchases.

Such a Beautiful place for a Winery. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Do the Wine Flight and set out by the Stream. There was a food truck there also.

Fun, even in the rain. Beautiful setting along river, live music and decent wine. Happy we stopped by.

Do not recommend. We were stalked and harassed by the guy in the aviator sunglasses. He was rude, and disrespectful. We spent hundreds of dollars here and he was constantly watching us, even standing behind us and looking into our cups. Crazy

What a way to spend the day! The place has tons of seating all over the property to sip and enjoy. The day we were there they had live music as well and a food truck. There is a lovely spring there running beside it as well. There are not wine tours but they do have flights. It was such a lovely day! We do return when we go up to the mountain.

This was a very friendly find! I would recommend beautiful scenic view of Grandfather Mountain. A glass or two of wine here was a pleasure. A must do when traveling the NC mountains! They sell crackers and cheese so bring more snakes if you choose to enhance the experience!

This winery is located along a beautiful mountain stream, perfect for picnicking, which they allow; however, no outside wine is allowed. You must buy their wine, of course! We had two of their Chardonnays, an oaked and an in-oaked. Both were quite good for NC wines. The only downside is you have to drive past a huge power grid and a dump to get to the property, but once you arrive you do not see either. It's really a beautiful spot and a great excursion!

My sister and I visited for some well- needed downtime. They offer "flights" of four tastings at very reasonable cost that we were able to share in addition to traditional tastings or glasses/bottles to enjoy. There is a graveled "beach" with tables and chairs next to shallow running water where kids are allowed supervised play. Lots of seating and able to accommodate large groups. Very good parking. Lovely and restful views of waterside and mountain cliff vineyard.

Great wine selection and super friendly staff! Plenty of outdoor seating, nice heat lamps going on the porch, too!

My close friend highly recommended a visit so we did and we are so glad we did. Weather was fantastic, did the white wine tasting and ended up buying a bottle and drinking it outside, soaking in the sun rays. We had packed a lunch to take with us.
We so enjoyed our visit that we returned the next day and repeated the experience.
Casey their resident dog is friendly and spends time visiting with you.

Great little stop perfect winery dog
Met a chemistry student who gives us hope
Worth a stop nice tasting wines

This was our 2nd visit, we came last summer and enjoyed the atmosphere, sitting by the creek. This year they've added more tables, and a ton of parking, but they still have the inside closed, which means the only bathrooms are Porta potties, no fun in July. Ordered a bottle of sauvion blanc, and after spending $28 for a bottle, was handed just the bottle and glasses. Since it was 82 degrees out, we asked for an ice bucket and were told they were "sold out of ice buckets"?? It was a Tuesday, the place was maybe 40 - 50% full. So the best I can figure out they don't want to pay for ice. I really like supporting local places, but you have to put a little effort into it. Last note, the wine was so-so, no clean finish, kind of cloying. The guy sitting next to me said the same about the glass of red he had, he wanted to buy a bottle but wasn't impressed. There's plenty of opportunity here, maybe they can improve some things.

Our favorite winery we’ve been to - and we’ve been to a lot!! Awesome flight tasting with wine glasses on a rack that you take to your table. We loved Jeff Honeycutt for our live entertainment. Such a relaxing place! Highly recommended!! Don’t miss this hidden gem!

Easy to find winery off rt105, the wine is good and the ambiance is lovely. It's a nice trip while on vacation.

I had the "sweet flight" and it was great. Found two wines I loved. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing by the creek with our wine and cheese and crackers. Highly recommend!

We visit this winery somewhat frequently. There are a number of very good wineries in the area. This one sticks out for the beautiful riverside venue, with great wines and service. Plenty of covered and open seating area to enjoy music on the weekends, or just enjoy a glass outside in a beautiful venue. Bring your pup!

Enjoyed the wine tasting. Ordered a glass and sat outside by the creek (stream). Left with the engraved glass...opposie..lol. friendly staff. Eat a few grapes off the vines. Had live music day I went.

This is such a cute winery! It sits along the Watauga River, and the chairs that line the river are the perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of their wine! They have many different wines to choose from, and they are all really good!

We were there over a holiday weekend and this place was packed, but they were very well prepared to manage the crowd. From parking to wine purchases, they moved things along very efficiently. There were literally over a hundred places to sit either on the patio or down by the river and when the afternoon rain storm passed through people had to scamper but most found cover under one of the tents and never left.

Wonderful place to grab a drink and relax. Would have liked to sample more, but had to pay for samples. They wine was great and it was wonderful to take your bottle and sit by the water. Friendly staff, but not willing to bargain. They offered discounts for quantity, but didn't have the quantity and discount I wanted.

Most places have free or little charge to taste there wines. This is $6-$10 a person. The wine was ok but not the top ten I have had. The grounds are well kept and a good place to sit and enjoy a bottle. Not enough help to handle the crowd, maybe they should have taken advantage of the outdoor tasting tents. All in all glad I stopped but may not again.

Even though we are locals we find this place an Oasis from the norm.Being able to sit out next to the river on an Adirondack Chair enjoying wine on a sunny day is hard to beat. Great entertainment on Sunday get there early during the high season as it can get comfortably crowded.

The best wine in the area as far as I am concerned. Try to visit On the weekend and enjoy the live entertainment. Very chilled out, bring your own munchies and grab a bottle of two if there delicious wines. For me start off with a Chardonnay and finish with a local Barbera. Have been here several times and have never been let down.

We stopped in for a wine tasting. The setting is nice, family friendly, good picnic spots. The wine was good, we especially liked the Barbera they were getting ready to launch. White and red selections, cheese and snacks available. You can sit outside, by the creek or on their patio. Great little find!

Great place to bring the family. Large, plenty of space for the large crowds during the holiday break. Live music. Fast service. Wine was okay. Would go back.

We have so much fun stopping here each year. The outdoor space is beautiful and the wine is always nice. There are sodas and snacks for the non-drinkers and kids in the family.

We were visiting the High Country Wine Trail with a stop at Grandfather Winery. Beautiful location by the river with chairs and tables outside to enjoy wine or a picnic lunch. The staff provided friendly service. The tasting was OK. Only found one wine that we wanted to buy a bottle to take home. All in all, an interesting visit.

If you like great wines and scenery, look no further! The Grandfather Winery surpassed our highest expectations with their wine tasting and expertise on their wines and how they compare to others. They have a long wine tasting bar as well as chairs and lounges by the river and and a large, comfortable covered deck with great vineyard and Mountain views. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. We'll definitely be going back when we're in the area on vacation again! A+++ experience!

Wow...don’t think there’s a better location...comfortable setting and a gentle stream...yup...pretty spectacular...throw in live music and tasty wines....ha...game on...perfect place for a lazy weekend afternoon....

On a whim, we decided to check out this business. We were not disappointed. There are grape vines growing everywhere. They have lots of choices for wine. I am not a wine drinker, but did find one that tasted like cotton candy. I would definitely go back. They have entertainment on Saturday and Sunday, but didn’t stay for that. The river beside it is very relaxing.

Beautiful views while sitting outside while enjoying a flight of wine. You can sit by the vineyard or on the opposite side by a stream. A very friendly atmosphere among visitors and staff. My favorite was the Harvest Moon Red

We spent a charming evening sipping wine, walking the grounds and listening to great live music this past weekend in Banner Elk. We will have to visit again.

A must each year when we visit the area. The wine is wonderful. Particularly love the Pinot Grig and the Muscadine Sweet. You just can’t compare opening a bottle of wine by the stream. We brought a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon listening to live music while we relaxed in the Adirondack chairs. I can’t say enough good things about this special place!

My husband and I enjoy a buttery oaked chardonnay which is getting harder to find these days. This winery has a great one! We ordered a bottle of it and grabbed some crackers and cheese from their shop. We grabbed one of their picnic tables streak side and enjoyed our treats and picnic lunch from home. Our kids played in the stream with other kids who had arrived. It was a gorgeous day. Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful and peaceful setting.

Second evening here, great wine tasting and awesome river to sit by. Seats line the river along with beautiful patio

Three weeks ago now we met friends at Grandfather Vineyard & Winery for conversation and a glass or two of wine. Located right off the highway but nestled in the woods and away from the traffic noise. In fact, the only noise that one could hear was the water rushing over the rocks in the river, conversation and laughter. The weather was perfect- sunshine and a little brisk. They have chairs and tables by the creekside along with umbrellas for comfort. We carried in lunch. So, all we needed now was a good wine and that's what Grandfather Vineyard & Winery provided. Nice folks behind the counter, too.

Located right by a babbling creek, the vineyard has a lovely setting and a nice view of the mountains. Though not particularly large, they have a nice selection of wines to choose from. My only complaint is that the gas heaters on the patio ran out of fuel and it was very cold until they were back in order. I would come again on a warmer day.

Great view with good music most of the summer. Opportunities for wine tasting to settle on you favorite. Sundays are very crowded in summer but they are open most days. Bring your dog he will have lots of playful companions.

My favorite place for relaxing. Pack a snack, buy a nice bottle of wine and chill by the river. Very well rounded wine offering. Should have something for everyone’s taste. Nice selection of tasty goodies for sale is also an option and sometimes a food truck is on location. Live music is offered most summer weekends, but I love the sound of the river. Main drawback is that weekends can be very crowded. Owners and staff are super nice and knowledgeable. Love coming here.

You sit outside under tents or umbrellas, with a beautiful view of the vineyards. If you go on a Friday or Saturday, there is a very reasonable and quick food truck. We enjoyed a flight of red wine while listening to a band.

Small winery but they were very well informed and personable. We sampled the dry reds and they just don't meet the standards of California wines even though most of their grapes come from there. Great setting to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

While the surrounding scenery was breathtaking, the real story is Nicole in the Tasting Room. My husband and I were early and she invited us in, shared the wines with us, suggested some delicious, locally sourced garlic/herb/chive cheese and parmesan crackers, and even tracked us down because I left my credit card by accident! We will DEFINITELY visit Grandfather again and look forward to spending time with the wonderful folks at this vineyard!

Been to many wineries throughout the US but Grandfather was a unique experience. First, it was busy but the staff gave everyone equal attention, which was a nice change. The staff was really nice and friendly. Secondly, the atmosphere around the winery is charming. A stream runs next to Grandfather and seating has been made available with various fire pits. Frankly, the area is short of magical. Now the wine. The wine tasting was nicely arranged by variance. Meaning, they allow you to choose your tasting. The winery offers a tasting of seven dry whites, six dry reds and five sweet. We elected the sweet and no you won't lose a tooth over the sweetness. The first two wines where semi-dry which was fruitful but a little too dry for us. The next three where sweet but enjoyable. You will walk away with a glass as well. Overall a nice experience and the format was a nice change.

We liked the wine and atmosphere so much, we went a second time. The first time, I went with my husband, my mother and two aunts. The second time was with my husband, my sisters and their spouses, and our mom. In other words, great company!
The place itself was really nice. It's slightly hidden from the road, on a beautiful rocky stream. The building was clean. There were tables near the stream. Also, there were chairs to relax in while enjoying the sound of the water. We saw several couples who brought their children to splash around in the shallow water while the parents watched from the sides.
The lady behind the counter was not super friendly during either visit, but we enjoyed tasting all of the reds and whites for $10. We loved their Big Boulder Red, so we purchased several bottles each visit. I'm from Texas, and it's over 100* here today. So the thought of temps in the high 70*s and low 80*s, sitting on a boulder, sipping an enjoyable wine, dipping our toes in the cool water, laughing and catching up while on vacation makes me want to go again right now!

Such a nice afternoon! The location is beautiful. You can walk through the grape vines or play in the river. We were there on a Saturday and had lunch at the food truck. Planning a girls' weekend in October and will be taking them here! Oh, and the wine flight was delicious!

We stopped here on our way of a few visits to wineries and we enjoyed the wine tasting experience. It's not as relaxing as the Banner Elk Winery but we enjoyed it.

The women (and I'm being nice calling the women) were so rude and horrible. They didn't care about the customers.

Grandfather Vineyard is in a special location. A beautiful creek runs through the property with picnic tables to sit at while enjoying your wine. A freight of wine gives you the opportunity to compare wine. A lovely outing.

We have been here several times and love the vibe. The natural surroundings are beautiful and the testing room folks are very friendly. This is a great stop when exploring in the greater Boone/Blowing Rock area.

Great wines, music, food truck, and friendly people all around. We stopped there impromptu and had a wonderful afternoon enjoying a wine tasting, snacks and listening to Adam Musick.

Another fine choice for wine lovers to sample their vintages and enjoy truly wonderful surroundings.

The winery was nice but not my favorite. The wines were okay, not great but not terrible either. They did have a selection of cheese and some other items in a fridge you could buy. I was disappointed they didn't have food to offer-I enjoy the wineries that have food trucks on busy weekends or offer platters of food ready to eat. We were there on a Saturday during fall season and found it a bit too overcrowded for our liking. It was hard to find seating so I would suggest bringing your own lawn chairs and finding a nice private spot near the river. It's worth a stop but I don't know if we'll be back as there are other wineries in the area that we'd rather check out first.

We really like Grandfather Winery. Parking can be an issue, but a great covered area, weekend music and great atmosphere.

Comfortable place with great atmosphere adjacent to Watauga River. Also has good wine. With the number of wineries springing up these days I was surprised that it was unique. Plenty of seating and staff was extremely pleasant. The day I was there a band was playing outdoors. The band was good and the crowd was well managed. Staff made additional chairs available if needed. Transportation was provided from overflow parking which was nice. A very pleasant experience.

Stopped here for a tasting, God knows we love to taste wines. Were pleasantly surprised by the setting so sat by the brook and had a picnic lunch, then went inside. Did our tastings, bar service was excellent and wines were nice. Far superior to our experience at Linville Falls the day before. Did I mention they have entertainment on the weekends.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. From the wine tasting to sitting by and listening the creek, our visit was nice. You can sit inside the pet friendly tasting room and purchase a chunk of cheese and crackers and sip wine or sit outside by the vineyard.

This is a fun place with a beautiful atmosphere! Even if you don't drink their Muscadine Juice is amazing. They had music as well and a good selection of wines.

What a wonderful find on a rainy January Saturday afternoon! We both enjoyed the 4 / $15 wine sampler. I tasted the Oak Chardonnay, Pinot Noir Rose, Malbec and Petite Sirah. All were yummy good! My favorite was the Pinot. The setting is so sweet; indoor seating near the bar, ourdoor seating on the porch in comfy seats and an out door patio. All areas were full and everyone seemed to be enjoying. There are 3 dogs (I only saw 2) roaming around enjoying ear scratched and attention. The vineyard is on the hillside right outside the entrance. You can purchase crackers and cheese to enjoy with your wine. All of the wines are for sale. I will enjoy my bottle of Pinot one of these nights and think back on this beautiful mountain area. I *think* they are only open on weekends, but sure to check. If you enjoy wine, don't miss this place! Enjoy!

A fantastic location where you can sit by a mountain stream and enjoy your favorite wine. We have enjoyed looking up the mountain at the Vineyard and listening to music regularly provided at the facility. A great way to spend a leisurely afternoon just sitting and talking with friends and enjoying the beauty of the mountain

Sunday afternoon with music and friends. Delightful. Wine is not bad either which is high praise for NC wines. Great service.

Small vineyard and winery near Banner Elk and Boone, North Carolina. When the weather is nice you can sit by the vineyard, under cover, or in the sunshine, or by the stream, which is very relaxing. Wine is nice. Great atmosphere. You might even happen upon some live music while you're there. We love Grandfather Winery.

Fun, fun, fun... Great wine and wonderful band. I would recommend this winery to everyone coming up to Blowing rock

This winery has a really cool seating area by the river--just a bunch of Adirondack chairs and a few tables to sit in by the rushing stream/river. The red and unoaked chardonnay were really good. We bought a few bottles and drank them there and were able to bring the rest home. You can bring your own food which we did and enjoyed by the stream/river. There is this high-pitched screeching that occurs about every 5 minutes--figured out it is to scare away pests who eat the grapes. It didn't bother us--we just wondered what kind of bird it was! I highly recommend this winery--much better Linville Falls Winery :(

On a recent girl's get-away to Boone, we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon to sip some wine and hear some good music on their enhanced porch and patio and enjoy the scenery. I overheard one couple comment that they came every weekend. The parking lot was almost full so obvious they are doing something right. They are pet friendly which I enjoyed watching. You can bring your own food and enjoy at outdoor tables but you can't bring in alcoholic beverages.

This is a regular place for us to go, especially when they have music events. We love to stop at the near by deli or go by Lowes Food to pick up a picnic lunch. The family that runs the winery are really friendly. The place is so scenic. Go early to grab a few chairs by the brook and sit under the trees. There is a new deck with chairs and tables. Enjoy🍷

Always love going...great place, beautiful surroundings..AND great wine!!!!
Bring snacks and stay awhile...😎

Great way to spend an afternoon enjoying the scenery. Wine Flights and cheese/meat board were very good and priced well.

Love to visit wineries and enjoy a glass of wine although can't say that I have experienced a NC winery that had wine which could compare to say...California...until now. Grandfather Vineyard and Winery knows how to blend some very great tasting wine from local and non-local grapes. Enjoyed all the wines in the tasting (8 tasting/$10 including the lovely wineglass) and opted for the Rose which was delicious. The setting did their wine justice...located on a rippling creek overlooked by a hill of vines, with covered patios it was lovely and relaxing. Chairs, tables next to the creek are provided and dogs are welcome. We will definitely keep this winery on our "to visit" list every time we go through western NC.

And great western nc wine. Sundays they have live music, go to their website for a schedule of performers and dates

We stopped by Grandfather Mountain Vineyards and Winery and enjoyed a glass of wine sitting in chairs by the river. It was a lovely, warm fall afternoon, and it was a relaxing way to spend some down time.

Service and atmosphere couldn't have been better! Visited a couple wineries today and Grandfather was by far the best in terms of wine, service, and atmosphere.

Stopped by on way back to Beech mountain after a day at downtown Boone. Great place and fun thing to do.

We dropped in here for our second visit to this place. It's a little hard to find but they do have a sign at the road. Once you pull in there is a trash collection center there but drive straight down the hill and over the bridge. You will see the large barn to the right. Park where you can. Free glasses with the wine tasting. We purchased a few bottles and sat by the creek in the shade and sipped on one of them. Beautiful scenery. I would definitely make this one of your things to do while in the area. We brought our own cheese and crackers but they have them for sale inside.

They have done a nice job setting the place up. People are friendly, grounds are nice. Sit by the stream and have a glass of wine. However recommend you bring your own.
I have traveled from New Zealand to Boudreaux through Tuscany etc. etc.
I am not a wine snob, one of my favorite bottles of wine is a inexpensive IGT from Tuscany. $14 a bottle.
But there is no reason to pay the prices they are asking for these wines just so you can say you are serving Grandfather mountain wine.
My home is maybe 3/4 mile away. I go by very often as the solid waste depot is on s a road. I just can’t get use to the wine.
I enjoy one Cab from Banner Elm Winery, but again even at that, $29 a bottle I can buy GREAT wine.

Winery's are easy to love but some more than others. The Grandfather Winery staff make you feel welcome. Like they know you from the start. We have been back to the Winery many times and love it more every time. The music and food truck on a Friday night made for a great evening by the beautiful river. Enjoy a glass or a bottle by the side of the river or inside if its chilly or rainy. Just great no matter how you do it!!

What a hidden, serine Place this is! The flowing stream with a setting of shaded tables and cool trees!
The cab sav i had was excellent as was the dry rose’
My pet pig enjoyed roaming the vineyard...he even climbed to the top of the hill....

COVID continues to impact visits to tourist towns. I planned a long weekend in Banner Elk for an anniversary and Grandfather Vineyard and Winery was on our itinerary. Make sure you have a Plan B. We were unable to enter due to their capacity had reached maximum levels. Look forward to trying again in the future.

Visited the winery today. It is off the beaten path and although a small vineyard, absolutely charming. The small creek that runs along its side with chairs to sit upon is as tranquil as one can get. I tried a flight of their wines. My favorite was their Red Bold and their raspberry cider on tap. With some Ashe County cheese spread and crackers purchased their as well made a perfect pair. And the live music and comfortable cushioned chairs under the covered porch was just the right spot for a chilly misty start for the day.

Awesome location for a taste of a flight of wines. Sitting by a rocky creek or tent. Live music on a Weds afternoon. Very chill!

Good wine, very accommodating and friendly staff. The creek with the mountain setting made for a great time. The snake really impressed my daughter! Don't worry, you have go climbing around the rocks to find them. Plenty of outdoor seating near the creek. Would like more shade and more seating, but then, an amphitheater would not exactly be appropriate. A definite stop for wine lovers.

What an outstanding experience! As long as you buy wine you can bring your own food (which is perfect for my vegan gluten free family). It is kid and pet friendly. The views are breathtaking, the wine is fantastic, and the ambiance is magical. ❤️ 🍷 We even uses the fire pit to roast s’mores that we brought with us.

OMG! I didn't think this could get any better! We just finished our botteling and labeling tour and the staff is amazing. We had so much fun. Stephanie and Nicole met us at the door and put us into a group for our experience. Dylan explained the wine making process from grapes to barrels, Bryan explained what happens from barrels to bottles and we got to see the difference in different years of the same wines. The most fun was botteling and labeling with Brad. The wine from this place is better than most of the wine I have had in Europe and the US but what makes this place breathtaking is the people. Beautiful surroundings, great music, great food, lots of puppies and a delicious bottle of wine....is this heaven?

Wow...don’t think there’s a better location...comfortable setting and a gentle stream....fantastic wines....is there such a thing as perfect? Yup....this place nailed it....the selection of wines will please just about anyone....do try the Zinfandel aged in Jack Daniels barrels....that’s a winner!

Grandfather vineyard and winery is located in a cute area and has their vines growing on the side of the hill. They are situated next to a creek where you can take your wine and sit by the water. It was raining the day of our visit but sitting under the porch was still enjoyable. They have an extensive wine selection and their Cab is really pretty good. They have crackers and cheese available in a cooler for purchase but you have to cut it up yourselves. Would have been nicer to be able to order it already prepared. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The Vineyard is located in a beautiful setting we were there on a Saturday and it was extremely crowded they had entertainment and they had their wine service outside which is quite convenient given the pandemic there is a stream that runs along the perimeter of the property which is very scenic it’s a place you probably want to try but I would not go there on Saturday unless you don’t mind crowds

We have pass it many times and never stopped. We had sometime to kill and stopped. Great experience. Wine was good and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Great little sitting areas along the river and beautiful terrace over looking the vineyard.

Great venue by the river. The wine was very good. It is a very relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend it as a gemreat midafternoon stop.

Good music on Sundays and some of the staff is friendly others can be rude. Always try the wine before you buy a bottle. As a sommelier I have a hard time drinking the reds even their bold red which they state is an award winner very unlikely. The Pinot of rose and Chardonnay is not bad but you are paying for the beautiful scenery as you can see grandfather mountain and they sit on a beautiful property with vines and streams.

It was raining when we arrived, but that did not stop us from having a wonderful experience here. The winery shop is very nice and the tasting was fun. We chose a bottle to buy and sat on the wonderful cushioned sofas and chairs on their porch overlooking a small lake. This was on the weekend so we were entered with live music. We enjoyed a beautiful view despite the rain. We will definite go back.

We enjoyed our day trip to the nc mountains. Especially grandfather winery and vineyards. They made us feel "at home". I liked that they were dog friendly. Nice place to sit and relax.

We happened to stop in to this attraction on a Thursday afternoon, it was a beautiful little winery. The grapes were growing along the side of the mountain. We went into the wine tasting room, and when asked if there was someone who cold tell us about the Vinyard, and history, we were told that would be part of the wine tasting. My husband does not drink wine, so I purchased a tasting, and was handed a card with a description of ingrediants for 5 sweet wines. Shortly after we started a gentleman came in and asked if his group could be served outside, they were told that was not something they normally do, so the group would have to come inside to the bar area. The group entered with someone in a wheel chair, the pulled up to the only table located inside, the server said, they would have to be served as the bar, in a bit of distress the gentleman said, he's in a wheel chair and can't stand at the bar 😑, I could not believe what was happening, she was not being very accommodating. I finished up my samples, purchased a bottle of wine and sat outside on the beautiful porch area. I was then discouraged when I found out that the only rest room was a well used port a potty located across the parking lit5😥.

We’ve been to quite a few North Carolina wineries in the Asheville area and again today in the Boone area. I will say, we’re somewhat wine snobs with a love for the Napa valley and California wines. I can say, without a doubt, this is the best North Carolina wine we’ve had, by far. It’s hard to compare a California wine to anywhere else based on the climate required to grow a great red wine, but with that said, we found that all four reds in the flight were very good. The atmosphere was beautiful as we sat by the stream. They also had live music and the people who waited on us were very nice. I’d absolutely come back and compared to the next winery we went to, not even close. Highly recommend. Thank you!

This was our first time there and we enjoyed the people and the atmosphere. The wines were ok with a couple of good ones like the syrah. Fun place to visit.

Was amazing. You can bring your animals and you can do whatever. There's the wataga river right next to it you can get in and enjoy the view and much much more.

We visit a lot of wineries and this might be our absolute favorite. Their wine is the best in the area (not sickingly sweet like most of the others). Our fav is the Pinot Gris. They offer wine tastings, but we like to buy a bottle, borrow a couple of wine glasses, and sit outside by the babbling brook. There are many chairs and picnic tables available, but bring your own folding chairs on a nice day because it will be crowded with adults, people, and dogs. Also bring a picnic basket because there are only limited snacks to buy inside.

The grounds are fantastic. There's seats by the creek so momma and poppa can drink while the kids play. There's seats under the pavilion to keep the rain off your head. There's seats between the two huge rocks in the yard.
Only issue was, the wine was pretty average. I'm definitely not a wino, but I do think the tastings we've had in the Yadkin Valley are better. The wine is also a bit pricey. Most bottles are 22.95$. I reckon it's more costly to grown and import grapes to the high country.
I may go back, but wouldn't go out my way to visit.

My wife and I have visited Grandfather Mt winery several times with Friends and family over the many visits to the area. It is very relaxing to sit by the creek and enjoy their many fine wines. Try the sparkling rose or their Chardonnay is also very good. Very light and easy to drink. You can also buy some cheese and crackers to enjoy with the wine. I saw a few smart people bring a picnic lunch with them. This time we enjoyed the guitar player on the side gazebo. I could have sat there all day sipping wine in the cool breeze listening to music. Always a relaxing way to spend a day on the mountain.

Just think of a wine tasting, with live music in the background, surrounded by a vineyard and Grandfather Mountain directly above you. What could be better? Only one thing, a river with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs to absorb all the beauty of the cool mountain breezes.

The pluses first: beautiful location. It was pouring down rain when we came, and it was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in the mountains. Good music playing and 3 winery dogs strolling around. Went on a Thursday, so easy, ample parking and no crowds.
The minuses: Thursday meant no food truck, so we bought from the extremely meager selection they offered. Cheese, crackers, and nuts set me back almost $30. Big tip: you are allowed to bring your own food,as long as you buy wine. If I came again, I would bring my own cheese, crackers, etc. I really hate to say this, but the weakest part of the experience was the wine. Not so great, and there really isn’t a good reason for it, as they import their grapes. The CIDER was by far the best selection of my flight. I was certainly not enticed to buy bottles to take home. I’m a bit shocked by all the reviews saying the wine is good. Passable at best. I am NOT a wine snob by any means. I also felt it was over priced for the quality. 8 ounces for $15. I can get a very decent wine at that price.
So....would I go back? Maybe. We own a home in the area and the atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing. I’ll pack my own noshes and warn people that the wine is not so good. Ugh!!!! I really wanted to love this place!
Last thought. I can’t imagine coming on the weekend. Woman told us they shuttle people in from the road for parking and there is a line out the door for wine. No way.

Wonderful Sunday afternoon spent listening to music drinking wine and talking to other visitors. Friendly relaxing day with our dog d e inking a bottle of white wine. Great value.

This is a lovely location in the mountains, with a tasting room adjacent to a bubbling mountain stream, where adirondack chairs and tables are set out for sipping your favorite vintage while enjoy the natural surroundings. There's also a covered patio and a lovely tasting room and bar. I enjoyed the sparkling wine and some of the red blends.

Love this place! Just picturesque, perfect. Everyone was super nice and helpful. We did the red flight and white flight. Seriously liked all of them, although the Jack Daniel red and the Piont Blanc were my favs. Sat for a while at a table at the higher level, then moved down and sat by the river. There was a food truck there and lots of folks were getting food and it looked good. We did the cheese- you pick just one and get a huge brick- we picked the 5yr aged cheddar and went with the sea salt crackers. It was very good. With covid, we were not allowed to go inside, but we were fine with that. Such an enjoyable visit and we will bring friends and family when in town!

We did a day trip to the NC mountains and stopped at grandfather winery. This was our second time. They are pet friendly. The scenery was amazing. It was relaxing to sit by the creek with a glass of wine.

The atmosphere is peaceful. Nice tasting room. Great outdoor patio type area beside a babbling brook. The Boulder Red is great. "Sit a spell and enjoy the sounds of nature."

My husband and I had a couple hours to sight see. We found this winery and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a beautiful afternoon spent by the stream. Several of us took our shoes off and waded in the cool waters!

We loved the setting - the building and grounds are beautifully tucked into the mountain next to a bubbling stream (our two boys had a great time playing in there after we were done with the tasting.) Wines were good, but pricey at $7 for tasting four wines. You can choose to taste their white, reds, or sweet wines. Most wineries I've been to let you taste all of those for that amount of money..... we enjoyed our time, though, and I asked to also taste their raspberry cider, which I actually liked more than their wines! It made a nice finish to our day in Banner Elk.

The ambiance at this vineyard was great we visited while it was raining and it still did not disappoint. Plenty of covered seating outside the food truck there was great and we enjoyed the flights to sample different wines. Only downfalls were the inability to pick your four wines for the flights had to select from a preselected category and the inside tasting room is not open so they only have porta potty for restroom.

Secluded, can see vineyards climbing the side of the hill. Tastings inside and small store. Wrap around porch with comfortable group seating and is dog friendly outside. Seating lines the bubbling brook

I great little winery with tastings and a great place to enjoy the mountain air and beautiful stream. It was Sunday (5/29/16) and they do not open until 1:00 and it was very crowded and lightly raining. We did each did the $6 wine tastings; her white and myself reds. I did not find anything that I had to have a bottle of but did get a glass of their red and sat by the stream and enjoyed the day. I found their pricing on bottles expensive. We just got back from NAPA three weeks ago and found better wines much less than what their prices were. Their was music and lots of dogs.

This is a great place to have a nice glass of wine, have a picnic and enjoy nature, specially during the summer where you can even go and walk in the river that cross along the property.

Loved this winery it was big well set up they have flights that are $13-$15 USD
you get four glasses they have them set up to where you can pick all sweet wine, all dry wine, all red all white whatever you prefer they had live music I went on a Saturday around 2 PM. Great views tons of space for kids to run around they have a shallow running creek that you can wade in.
It’s a must visit if you’re already down here from visiting the grandfather mountain

My wife and I visited this winery this afternoon and had a tasting of eight wines (4 whites, 4 reds). The price was very fair; which included the glass. We settled on a dry white, Pinot Gris, and bought a bottle to drink on premises on a very delightful setting next to a clear mountain trout stream.
The wine was great, and the setting was terrific. We heartily recommend this winery!!

Fantastic venue. Good wine, great atmosphere- good music. Drove 40 minutes from Roan Mountain. Well worth it! Beautiful

On the way back to Boone we stopped at Grandfather Vineyard in Banner Elk where the Tatums have achieved the reality of owning a Vineyard & Winery that started when they first planted their grapes in 2003 and opened the doors of the winery in 2011 as the first producing winery in Watauga County. “There is nothing quite as relaxing as sitting on the banks of the Watauga River in the shadow of the beautiful Grandfather Mountain. Add our award-winning and various wines and there’s no place you’d rather be than at Grandfather Vineyard!” We whole heartedly agree!

I enjoyed a wine tasting and some live music outside on the patio. They had a food truck and lots of seating all over including some down by the creek. Very beautiful. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

People will assume that Grandfather Vineyards has similar standards as Grandfather Mountain. Those people would be mistaken.
Yesterday, we visited Linville Falls winery. One thing we really liked about that Winery was the story. The woman who helped us took the time to tell us the story of the vineyard, and to establish the history and the credibility of the brand. Their tasting option was very simple. $10 for a certain number of wines.
Today I went to Grandfather Mountain with visiting family and then stopped at Grandfather Vineyards. Unfortunately, this Winery paled by comparison. I have to say that sitting next to the river with a glass of wine was incredibly pleasant. On the other hand, I felt like the staff behind the counter at Grandfather Vineyards were less (not at all) concerned about the story of the brand and more concerned about processing me as a customer. It's busy because it's a touristy area. But they know how many people to expect and I feel like they could have had more staff on hand if they wanted to provide that experience. It wasn't like the seating area was overflowing with people. The woman who served us specifically said that they weren't particularly busy.
In addition to that, I felt like their tasting options were overly complicated. The were several kinds. I felt like weighing the pros and cons of different options took away from the joie de vie that you're looking for from a wine tasting experience.
And the wine selection and taste were not that great.
Overall, a mediocre experience by a company more focused on profits than experience. They use the grandfather name, but don't have the same attitude of excellence.

We stopped here for a wine tasting. We arrived a few minutes before it opened so we brought a sandwich to each beside the creek. After the wine tasting we had cheese and crackers and a glass of wine to enjoy the visit.

We spent a wonderful day at the vineyards today, wine was great, the views were better. We had a cute little picnic lunch on the stream by the vineyards. The employees were friendly and they had cute little family dogs on site. It was very cool and clean!

If your in the Boone/Banner Elk area and like wine DO NOT miss stopping here. It is a beautiful place with very good wines.
Some of the wines are from locally sourced grapes, some the grapes are trucked in from CA immediately after picking. In all cases the wines are good to very good.
We did the $10 tasting which included 4 dry white wines and 4 dry red wines. You can do the 4 dry reds or 4 dry whites alone for $6. Lastly, if you like your wine sweet you can do a 5 wine tasting for $7. The tasting include a glass to take home.
The tastings are done in the tasting room but you can buy a bottle of wine (or more) or a Wine Flight of any 4 wines and take it out and sit on the patio with umbrella tables or in chairs or picnic tables along the river that runs right in front of the winery and tasting room. It is a beautiful spot. Picnicing is allowed there as long as you buy something (a bottle, a tasting or a wine flight). You can bring your own picknic foods but no outside alcohol is allowed. They probably are not gonna be militant about it and check you but really...don't be "those people" and come hang out by the river using their property with your cooler full of stuff you picked up at WalMart.
All 4 of the dry whites and dry reds I would be happy to drink with a meal but we really liked their Pinot Gris white, the Zinfandel 80% / Malbec 20% Blend Meritage (both made with grapes from Lodi CA) and their locally grown varietal Marquette which was derived from Pinot Noir at the University of Minnesota. Our winner for the day was the Zin/Malbec blend.
We bought 4 each of the Pinot Gris, Zin/Malbec and Marquette which got us a case discount of 15% and made our tasting free. Anybody that likes wine will be able to something they like here and mix up a case to get the 15% discount and free tastings.
We ask for one of our Pinot Gris to be a chilled one and popped it right there to drink by the river. Made for a relaxing, perfect afternoon.
The wines are not cheap, but not very expensive ranging from $17-$27 a bottle (for the dry wines...I can't tell you what the sweet wines cost), but the quality is worth it that price point.
Last tip...they allow dogs on the property as long as they are short leashed (6') and of course you clean up after your pet. Once again....don't be one of "those people". Have the courtesy to clean up after your pet.
If we are ever in the area again we will stop by and do it all again.

A lovely spot in the foothills near Blowing Rock, NC. The wines are probably the best in the area - even better than Linville Falls. A must DO !

I can never say enough about this place! I am 1 hour from Charlottesville where the wine flows like water, but this is still the perfect place to spend an afternoon. I remember when it was brand new and the wine was still so-so. But you can't beat the ambience and the people there! The wine has gotten so good! They partner with ASU to make some of their wines! The staff is fantastic and they remember you even if you only visit a couple times a year! The creek side table and chairs are a must, plenty of shade. Perfect view of grandfather mountain! So good for families with children, they can play in the creek or up in the vines with the winery dogs! I recommend the viognier or the cabs! The asu wine this year is a red blend and it's really good! They do have sweet options as well, I am a dry fan so I can't speak about the sweet wines, but ahhh that view and the people! A MUST SEE AND DO!! Cheers!!

We went here based on a recommendation from a vacationer from our home town, we met in a park in Valle Crucis park.
PROS:
-We could sip wine while the kids played by the stream, in our view
-The new gazebos they added were nice, and the seating was comfortable
-I liked the wine flights we chose
-Quiet and peaceful
CONS:
-This is a perfect place to unwind, after a day of activity, I wish they stayed open an hour longer. 6pm is so early
-When it’s closing time, they basically tell you to leave. Some places we went to, they start picking up and shutting down, so you get the hint. They flat out tell you, here
We liked this place. Just wish they didn’t close at 6pm

The Sunday we were there was really busy and crowded but they were prepared for it. Directions to park with shuttle service, live music, friendly people, places to sit (lots of folks brought lawn chairs), photo ops and wines that will please everyone. Next time we go we will plan to spend more time.

This was our last stop on our family vacation to Boone/Blowing Rock. We went on a rainy Sunday and were delighted to be able to spend the day outside on the beautiful patio with scenic views under ample seating under umbrellas and tents. My husband and I got the dry mixed flight and my parents got the dry red flight and we were impressed by the wines and ended up purchasing a bottle of Fusion and a bottle of Club Red- those were our faves. We enjoyed the live music- a jazz band that took us back to childhood with covers of TV theme songs- I Dream of Jeannie, Love Boat, and Sesame Street, to name a few. A fun and enjoyable experience and we’ll come back next time we are in town!

We have been to this winery twice now. The location is beautiful and it is a great place to drink a glass of wine. Both times we have visited though the staff was very unfriendly and not very helpful. Parking on a busy fall weekend is a nightmare. This is such a shame because their wine is nice and the experience could be so much better with a friendly staff. They were also completely out of sweet red wine at our last visit.

Stopped in late afternoon on a rainy day. The indoor tasting room was closed but they had an open air pavilion with high tops, multiple tents with seating as well as tables with umbrellas. They also had Adirondack chairs by a creek but due to the rain we sat in the pavilion. They offer flights on weekdays and they have 4 pre selected flights of varying types of red and white wine.I selected the dry white which came with 4 - 4 oz pours. They had nibbles for purchase, cheese and crackers, chocolates and bags of chips. You are overlooking their vineyard and they had music playing. Very relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

I visited this winery with my fiancé, MIL, and SIL yesterday and we did the sweet wine tasting. We liked most of the ones we had, but our favorite was by far the Watauga River White! My sister-in-law says it’s the best wine she’s ever had. The place was crowded and there weren’t any open seats, but we purchased 6 bottles of wine to take back to our condo. At the winery, there is a creek and hills for the kids to play in/on, as well as indoor and outdoor seating, and a fire pit. We plan on going back before our trip is over to buy more bottles.

Went for a wine tasting- barista was great...very knowledgeable, tried to identify my personal preferences, friendly. The wine...I've had better at other local wineries. Too sweet, very muscadine-y. I did get a glass!

Great wine, atmosphere and music. Highly recommended their Cabernet. My husband and I visit the winery every time we’re in Banner Elk.

We found this winery through TripAdvisor while vacationing in Boone. Great location with a creek running along side the tasting room. And the winds were OK, but we did find a red that we really enjoyed. We bought a bottle and went out and sat in the chairs provided along the creek and enjoyed a cool summer day.
I have been to at least 100 wineries, and even though there is no tour here the scenery makes up for it.

We have done a father's day gathering here 2 years in a row with a group of friends. It's just wonderful! The setting by the river is beautiful! Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and buy wine and now ciders on premises. Delicious selection. It was a Sunday and they also had live music on the patio. Highly recommend

We enjoyed our stop at Grandfather Vineyard. We did the dry wine tasting which had numerous lines that were great! Loved the location, tasting room and outdoor space.

Dropped in for some tasting of some new grapes. After our sampling, we bought a bottle for enjoyment while sitting on the porch. Beautiful day out.
I would suggest that the sample pours at the tasting be increased - not much given.
Pleasant staff. Nice surroundings along the creek.

We loved their peach wine and bought a bottle to bring home. It’s so relaxing to sip on your wine while facing the babbling brook. Cheese is available for purchase. They have music & a food truck on the weekends.

We liked their wine, but there was no place to sit at the bar, and both of us were on crutches or used a cane to walk. So, we felt rushed to taste the wine because it was so tiring to stand for any length of time. The staff were pleasant but the wine tasting area was cramped.

My husband and I visited just after Christmas and the place was packed! The tastings felt hurried because staff were trying to attend to everyone as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, we made several selections (Legacy Cab, Terraced Gold, and Dry Sparkling Rose) and thought the staff were great considering the size of the crowd. We also enjoyed meeting some friendly travelers sitting around the fire pit outside.

This was our first visit to Banner Elk and to Grandfather Vineyard & Winery. What an AMAZING time we had! The wine was sooooooo good and the live music was spectacular! Everyone was friendly! We will definitely be back!

To be able to forget everything else and relax,is what Grandfather Winery will do for you!!!The feeling of Italy is all around and the wine is amazing.

The wine here is excellent. The staff is very knowledgeable and everyone is so nice, especially Nicole. We come by grandfather Vineyard every time we’re in town sometimes several times. The grounds are beautiful and it is a lovely place to stop and have a glass of wine. You can purchase local cheeses to try there also.

We were at the winery two afternoons last week and it was wonderful both days. The weather was great, the live music was entertaining, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the wine was superb! We had the "Fusion" red wine blend, full body and smooth. Sally and Steve Tatum even sat with us one afternoon and told us how the winery started and how their son is the main wine maker now. Some of the ASU students that are in the wine making class come out and do hands-on work with the vines, grape crushing, bottling, and tasting. What a beautiful vineyard and setting with Grandfather Mt. as a back drop. It is a must if you are in the area. Dan and Cindi Alman

We were pleasantly surprised to find this winery in the mountains. It is a lovely place with seating outside near the vineyard as well as near the stream. They are dog friendly and kid friendly, so it's a nice place to relax and unwind a bit.
Our group enjoyed the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2014 Grandfather Blend was a close second. They do have a small selection of cheeses and crackers, but feel free to bring picnic food as well.

Just driving by and saw it so we stoped in. Cute place, clean, very friendly. Outdoor activities, like corn hole. Heaters for the porch area. Or sit down by the river and drink your wine. Fun tastes. Owners know a lot about their wines. Even have a couple of "taps" pouring a couple fabored wines at special prices. Had a great visit. Local dogs so friendly too

We had a little wine tasting one day, and we came back twice afterwards to buy a bottle of our favorite one. It was a beautiful and tranquil location to relax and sip wine with friends and loved ones. HIGHLY recommend.

Nice place to visit, even with kids. You sit along a creek to enjoy some wine while your kids explore nature walking in the creek.

Grandfather Vineyard is an adorable vineyard and tasting room. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday in late October (a super busy time in the NC mountains). Thanks to their overflow parking (which is not far at all from the tasting room), we were able to park easily.
We enjoyed a red tasting before deciding on a glass to take to the riverside. I can't say enough about the employees working in the tasting room - they were really busy, but they were so friendly to everyone and efficient. There were a few tastings going on at the same time, and they kept all of them on track, providing info on each wine while making sure no one was waiting too long for the next taste. They concurrently served customers that came in to buy a bottle or glass and kept the queue to a minimum.
They have two outdoor seating areas - one closer to the tasting room, and other by the river. They are both comfortable, with chairs and great views. There are tables also in case you want to enjoy the food truck that is onsite.
All of the wines in the tasting were great - we stopped in just for a glass but ended up also buying a few bottles to take home.
Oh, and they have a nice red that is produced in conjunction with Appalachian State's Fermentation Sciences program. Where was that program when I was in college?!
We definitely plan to visit them again.

We had an amazing time at Grandfather Winery! The staff was so nice and our flight of wine was under $20.00! We took our wine and sat creekside in the beautiful weather! So relaxing! This was on a recent Friday afternoon and they had live music. Once it began to rain, we just moved under the tents and continued to enjoy our day! Great location, great selection, great staff! Definitely add this spot to your itinerary if you are in the Boone/Banner Elk area!

We enjoyed a delightful lunch after our wine tasting. The food truck served delicious food. Sitting creek side to enjoy our lunch and bottle of wine was romantic and refreshing.

Normally we stop by here when we visit so we’re familiar with how busy it can get. It was fully packed, full capacity as there were no seats or tables. Band was great. We asked for a rag to wipe down our table. Instead of asking if they cold clean it, we were just asked to bring the tag back. We used our sanitizer to wipe down the table. There should be someone on staff stopping people before they sit down and watching for people leaving so they can wipe down really quick.

We planned our own winery tour this past Saturday and of the 3 we visited, this was definitely the most popular. Great music, lots of people hanging out enjoying wine...beautiful weather and scenery. We both had a flight tasting and purchased 2 bottles. Can't wait to share with friends! Definitely recommend a visit!

We were in the area celebrating our 50th anniversary! On 7/31, our actual anniversary we played golf at Sugar Mountain and decided to check out this winery after our lunch. We were pleasantly surprised by this very busy, lovely winery. Couples and families everywhere eating, celebrating, listening to live music and drinking wine. I enjoyed the delicious Viognier and to my surprise all their wine is served in their lovely wine glasses which you can return when you are done. My husband loved the rose'! People had obviously brought their own food to enjoy. I believe you could also purchase some snack boxes. It was a very hot day, so we located two adirondack chairs under a tree and relaxed to great music we enjoyed. There was seating along a lovely creek but all were taken, but there many were canopies and umbrellas which helped with the hot sun. There is a golf cart to shuttle you to your car if you are in the extended parking.

We enjoyed our visit to this winery during the holidays. It was a place for all to enjoy even pets. Outdoor seating by the river, fire pit, and under a canopy. Indoor seating is very limited. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. I would definitely visit this winery again. Convenient location.

Grab a table and chair by the river with some wine and enjoy the day. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. I'm not a wine person so I won't comment on that but I enjoyed this place.

We love this place. A little hard to find, but over a bridge, next to a little stream and you are there. It' remind me of places in Sonoma.I always bring my my friends here during our girls weekend. We love to sit outside under the terrace & enjoy the weather. Nice wine, too!

Our resort offered free wine tasting so we decided to try it out. The free tasting included 4 wines. After the tasting we each purchased a glass of wine and spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the beautiful grounds. Pets and outside food are welcome.

One of my lfavorite wineries in NC. Plenty of great wines, friendly guides for the tasting, and Dog friendly/recommended!
We made sure to plan a visit back to the winery, and made sure we had time to relax after. We brought a baguette, some prosciutto, gruyere and some havarti dill, and sat by the water enjoying some of the wine we had tried/purchased, and each other’s company.
My wife and I, and our Golden Retrievers, discussed it, and decided we will definitely be back!

Taste several wines, buy a glass or a bottle and enjoy views of the vineyard or the creek bed. Ashe County cheeses are available with crackers to enjoy with your wine. Relaxing! Weather was exceptional for our visit, but the porch and tents would shelter guests on any day.

My wife and I always visit winery's from different states and this one did not disappoint. A beautiful winery on a mountain with great wines and a great tasting room playing of places to sit and relax by a stream if you like. You get 8 tastings for $10.00.

We visited the winery with our friends and family during the holidays. The wine was good and overall we had a great time. We sat outside by the heaters had our wine and cheese and made great memories.

Beautiful winery tucked into the mountainside! Very easy to order a flight to taste - no entrance fee, just walk up and order. It wasn't crowded when we went because it was in the middle of the day on a rainy Tuesday. But their outdoor seating arrangement allowed you to take in every aspect of the surrounding beautiful nature! You can either sip your wine slowly and enjoy the live talented guitarist, or quickly get through your flight. The staff was friendly, and so were the people there enjoying their wine and company. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.

We had to try this, had free wine tasting with room card. We enjoyed the tasting, all reds were very good, wife had the white wines, we bought 3 bottles, then enjoyed one by the stream, had tables and chairs, great time, recommend for sure!

Great wine and great place to relax as you have a glass of wine by the river. The staff is always very nice and very helpful.

Grandfather Winery is a great little spot with some very nice wines. I especially like their sparkling rose. My only issue is their limited hours. Even during peak season they closed at 6pm. I would have liked to stay longer to enjoy the scenery but it was not possible.

Love this winery and have visited many times in he past. The creek is a favorite spot for my grandson to play with supervision ( careful slippery rocks) and a great place to sit in the shade after a wine tasting.
Great wines that compete well with any wines in the world.

Like that you had your choice of wine tastings. All reds-dry, or mix of dry and sweet, or all white sweet. This was great for me since I don't care for dry at all, so at most wineries, end up throwing all the saplings into the pitcher and liking maybe one.
Very knowledgeable young lady behind the tasting bar.
Loved the outside patio areas. Very comfortable which made having a glass of wine or sharing a bottle very relaxing.
Seems most people on the patio were either locAls or folks that visit frequently when they stay there.

What a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Buy a bottle and walk out to the creek or the beautiful grounds to enjoy the scenery. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. This place was the highlight of our trip to NC mountains.

The 4 of us stopped at grandfather winery after spending most of the afternoon at Banner elk winery. I think the wine itself is better at grandfather but the atmosphere and tasting room is much better at Banner elk. I would recommend stopping at grandfather 1st getting their samples then go to Banner elk where you can sit on the couches in the tables and enjoy the fireplace and the artwork as well as sampling of their wine. Makes for a pretty perfect afternoon.

Granfather Vineyard and Winery was the perfect activity for myself and my group of friends. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting process and I was impressed by the efficiency with which the staff took our orders. I would 10/10 reccommend and I will definitely be going back next time I am in the area! Thank you.

The wine tasting room was beautiful and staff was friendly and informative. The wine tasting menu did seem a bit overwhelming, but I had looked online before hand and knew that I wanted to try their Barbera wine, which was only available for purchase by bottle. I had planned to spend the afternoon there while my husband was out on a motorcycle adventure. It was so peaceful sitting by the stream sipping on my wine! I had brought along crackers, cheese, and antipasto, the setting was amazing, and the weather was gorgeous... I truly didn't want to leave! I would highly recommend stopping here. I can't wait to go back one day!

Nice wine and tables right by the river. It can get crowded so go early. Parking can sometimes be a problem because of the crowds.

We were there July 5th and they were a bit overwhelmed with the crowd. The Band was good but it was standing room only mid-afternoon. The wine was OK but not enough to motivate me to buy any bottles. Zinfandel and Shirah were the better of the 4 we tried(others were Merlot & Pinot). A tourist destination for sure.

Great winery located in Grandfather Mountain. Wines are good. Live music provided on weekends. Check schedule online for live entertainment. Beautiful setting. Good location for families are friends enjoying the day. Only complaint, staff not very friendly. Would have enjoyed the wine tasting more had the server not been so rude.

Beautiful place even when the weather does not cooperate. Good experience. Surprising list of wines- we each tried a flight. A comfortable place to enjoy they have heaters so you have options for inside or out. Wonderful people.

I've been to a few wineries and they always seem very uptight. This one is very different. You can walk among the vinyard, listen to live music, bring food to enjoy on the lawn. Great places for kids to run and play in the grass or by the creek. Great wine too!

Every time we come up here, we love coming to this winery. The tasting room is quaint and the employees are so friendly. There is a beautiful patio where you can sit in comfy sofas...but my favorite is to take a bottle of wine and sit down by the brook. Just love listening to the water tumbling over the rocks. So relaxing especially with a bottle of the Legacy Chardonnay. Don't miss this experience.

After some time clambering around Grandfather Mountain, my spouse wanted to visit a local winery before heading back to our hotel in Boone. After some research of the area (several wineries are within reasonable distances nearby).
We chose Grandfather Winery.
Very nice, pleasant, comfortable environment.
We asked for two glasses of wine and sat outside next to the stream.
Wine was excellent. We enjoyed a feeling of relaxation, with the very pleasant atmosphere.
Very nice indeed. My wife and I enjoyed it very much.

We had a great time walking through the vineyard and then sitting at the tables to listen to live entertainment. The staff is very polite and helpful. The facility is beautiful. Family friendly and great for all ages.

After conducting research regarding wineries in the NC mountains, I discovered that Grandfather continued to pop up. The winery is in an excellent location. Although the building is small, it only adds to the overall ambience. There is a very pleasant greeter who assists with parking. Nicole was my server. She is knowledgeable and friendly. The wines were exceptionally tasty. I purchased the Rose, red blend and the Cabernet Sauvignon. Nicole also honored my industry discount all the way from California! What's not to love....

We spent a great day at this winery, enjoying some delicious wine, a pulled pork sandwich from the food truck, and some nice music. This was our first time here, and I hope to get back soon to try the mimosa flight. It was hot the day we were there, but there was plenty of shade and comfortable chairs. Give it a try!

Nice place to hang for a while. There is plenty of parking and lots of tables. It was pretty busy when we went, but there are lots of places and spaces, so you don’t feel like people are on top of you. They have pre-set flights, which makes ordering quicker, but would have liked to customize my own. There are limited food options, but looks like you can BYO food. There was a food truck with good options and reasonable prices when we went. There are seats and tables near the creek -good spot for families as plenty of kids were exploring the creek and climbing on the rocks.

Get a glass of wine and relax next to the river. Wonderful place to spend a couple of hours with friends.

What a fun afternoon we spent at this lovely North Carolina winery. The tasting was great ! The wines are varied but all worth tasting. We picked a bottle and sat on the patio and enjoyed the scenery. The mountain stream is mesmerizing with the mountain backdrop. I could spend more lazy afternoons here

I was so excited to visit this little winery by the stream. Beautiful scenery, didn't stay as long as I'd have liked. I'm someone who loves to collect glasses from my travels, so I was excited that the wine tasting included the wine glass! Friendly family dogs on site, and nice attentive lady serving us at the stand up bar area.

My bestie and I spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon here recently, it was much more busy than times in the past, but we found a table and I ordered a wine. I got the Rose, that was supposed to taste like cotton candy and strawberries. It tasted like neither. This is on me since I didn't sample the wine. We settled in with some wonderful food that we purchased at a cheese, veggie stand not to far from the vineyard. They had a guy playing guitar and he was really good. People were bringing folding chairs and sat around the grapes in the yard. It was a wonderful afternoon as always here. I hope to be back soon!
Enjoy!
We loved our experience. Fun band, delicious wine. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Would return, and would recommend!
