Peaceful walk in nature

A surprisingly easy jaunt from Laughlin although the road is quite bumpy. Easy "hike" through mostly flat terrain to see some magificent petroglyphs - for free! Clean restrooms at trailhead/parking lot. Recommend for all ages. Stunning views.

Historial Petroglyphs

By bonny132 |

Loved light hiking through Grapevine Canyon. Another area to enjoy but don't disturb. Little creatures in and out of the plants around the rocks. Super cool ancient Petroglyphs. Wear closed toe shoes. Recommend for sure!

Great hike in winter months when cooler. Bring water

By DrFoofie |

Do early in morning when not busy and hot. Wonderful scent from blooming wildflowers. Careful with thorns and flash floods

Petroglyphs

By CaroleLondon_Ont_ |

This was the one place where we saw the best petroglyphs! Be sure to take water, wear a hat and a snack or picnic. You can explore so much in the area but please remember to respect the environment and take out what you take in. Enjoy and explore, don't destroy this beautiful wilderness area.

Petroglyphs

Lots of petroglyphs to see, road a bit of a washboard but easy if you drive slow. Took our car. Well worth seeing

Nice Place to View Nature

By Chipperhigh2 |

Drove to Grapevine Canyon with my wife down a dirt road. We continued through Christmas Tree Pass to return to art. 95. Wonderful trip and the views are fantastic. Would recommend anyone in the area to do it.

Fantastic outing! Oasis in the desert Check out the photos.

By Cindy G |

This is only about 20 minutes away from Laughlin, Nevada; you need a vehicle to get there, unless you like long treks. It was mid March, and the desert is drab. Here is a well posted location with parking and restrooms. Only a 10 minute hike to the beautiful, green spring-fed canyon. There is various plant life that thrives in this area. Spring blooms all around. The huge boulders make me think of 'The Flintstones'. Water from the spring (and rains) have created small recesses, or pools in the rocks. We saw a small lizard, but no other living things. The attraction is the petroglyphs! So many. Some are up so high, you can imagine the landscape before the rains & spring had washed out the sand and gravel. There are balancing rocks to marvel at.
Go early in the day - no people will be in your photographs.
No trash seen, love that! We accessed the area with a small rental car, so a 4WD was not necessary. Avoid area when raining heavily. The wash (dried water bed) is evidence of that. You can walk up a trail, or in the wash. Cross this off my bucket list!

If interested in History, this is for you

We actually visited Grapevine Canyon when we lived in Parker, AZ in the early 1990's. Lots of petroglyphs that are easy to see.

Hidden Gem in the Desert

By Carolynn Thomas |

Beautiful short hike from the parking area. The hike is maybe only a quarter of a mile, one way. Take Christmas Tree Pass off of 163, just north of Laughlin,Nv. The parking lot is two miles off of State Route 163. There is no sign for Christmas Tree Pass from the south. We drove north, found the sign and drove back to Christmas Tree Pass. It's a bit hidden, but well worth the hunt. We saw numerous animals and the petroglyphs were amazing. We will definitely do this hike again.

Trail Not Well Marked

By cruiseanytime |

Once my son and I found the right trail the view was great. Only about 15 miles from Laughlin. Keep to the center up the dry stream and u will find it. Only say the beginning because of being tired going on the wrong trail to the left. Finally saw a couple coming down the trail from the center when we were back at the parking lot. There were several petroglyphs to the left and right high on the cliffs. The couple who we say walking out said that there were many more further in the canyon. They had walked about 1.5 miles into the canyon and also say a dried up waterfall. Have fun exploring but take some water with you will get thirsty. Also take ur camera to take some memorable pictures. We did not see any animals on out trip up the trail.

Great Place to See

By mymorgan2008 |

We took a little drive away from the casinos and decided we would do the short hike to view the drawings. It was very peaceful slightly overcast so the temperature was not a problem. It is a well worn trail easy to follow and many drawings to see. Just make sure and wear a hat and bring plenty to drink if walking in the heat of the day.

Amazing experience for grown ups and kids alike!

By dlsteffanic |

Visited here this past weekend on our trip to Havasu, and what a surprise! This place really is amazing, and you can just feel the history of the tribes here. Definitely worth stopping! However, I would not suggest going here towing anything - the road is fairly narrow and washed out, and we were towing a 20 foot pleasure boat... bit hard to park anywhere or turn around once you get to the site!

Amazing Place

By Karen R |

Grapevine Canyon is an Amazing Place along the Christmas Tree Pass RD., near Laughlin, NV. The Canyon is about 2 miles in off the Main Rd. We had a car, and it was doable but the going was slow. If you have a SUV you'll be cruising. Do not go in a car if the weather has been bad. Once you get to the Grapevine Parking Lot there is about a 1/4 mile walk to the Petroglyphs. Take plenty of water, and keep you dogs on a leash. The area is sometime the hottest in the country in the Summer-so HIKE EARLY. We went in late October-just perfect.

Great place to explore

By mruddyduck |

I spent a week on vacation in Laughlin, and liked Grapevine Canyon so much I visited it 3 times. As an avid outdoors person I spent hours scrambling through the canyon, as there are numerous routes to explore. Many petroglyphs are an easy walk from the car (suitable for anyone), though many more are tucked up higher in the canyon for the more adventurous to find. In addition to petroglyphs there are many interesting rocks and I saw a good variety of birds here. You can hike about a mile up the canyon to get a nice view of the canyon and surrounding mountains. Further up Christmas Tree Pass there are more canyons and mountains to explore, with gorgeous vistas and interesting rock formations. A must-see for anyone visiting the area.

nice walk

Great break from casinos in the outdoors for fresh air and exercise.

Petroglyphs at Grapevine Canyon

By upsouthvolleyball |

We had a very nice time exploring Grapevine Canyon near Laughlin, Nevada. It’s a short walk from the parking area and you can explore as far back into the canyon as you feel like scrambling over the rocks. There are many interesting petroglyphs on the rocks inside the canyon. Don’t forget to walk up the right hand side as you approach the canyon as there are many petroglyphs there as well.

Just incredible 🙂🙂

By Larry S |

On our way back to Vegas after spending the night in Laughlin we decided to make a stop at Christmas Tree Pass and check out Grapevine Canyon, we're so glad we did, just incredible! Words and pictures can't truly do justice to the beauty of this area. 1st of all it's about 2 miles back off the main road following a dirt road so it's a bit slow going but not an issue if you have an SUV or a pickup. Once you get back to the parking area it's a short hike back into the canyon and it's well worth it to see the Petroglyphs and all. We had never seen anything like this before and glad we stopped by to see, just amazing! It's not a far drive from the strip so if you're in Vegas and want to try something new check this out, just incredible!

Good moderate hike. Needs a few trail signs.

By amuzed2death |

A short hike to petroglyphs. Then you can continue to some small springs. If you like to hike further up the hills without climbing a lot boulders, you should take the left side. There are no signs and no visible trail. If you go in summer, be aware of extreme heat. A few bottles of water won't be enough if hiking in summer.

Interesting Area to Hike

By Richard D |

Short walk will get you to interesting petroglyphs. Does not take long to cover this area. Short drive from Laughlin casinos on Christmas Tree Pass. No special vehicle needed if coming from casinos, but if you decide to continue down Christmas Tree Pass all the way to 95, I would recommend a 4x4 type of vehicle, depending on the condition of the gravel road. It can get a little choppy in some areas.

A great place to visit

By Michael G |

We visited this place while we were staying in Laughlin at Harrah's. The road turn off is approximately 5 miles from town and another 2 miles on a dirt road easily accessible for cars. Look for a sign saying Christmas Tree Canyo. The hike is approximately a 1/4 mile to the beginning of many petroglyphs and a easy hike.

"Tons of petroglyphs"

By Bill85210 |

Very easy to get to. Christmas Tree Pass south entrance. Maybe 1 1/2 miles up and your there. Signage, big lot to park, bathrooms and you can take your car on a little bumpy road, no problem. Walk by the first little hill o the left to the canyon in the short distance. You can walk in the wash west bound too but of coarse your in sand that makes it a little tougher. EASY to find.

Out in the desert/ Sacred Indian Land

By Bullit2 |

First let me say that the weather was absolutely perfect for making this trip. It is on Indian Sacred Ground it is peaceful, quiet, and beautifully surrounded by mountains. We were able to find Indian markings which this canyon is famous for. Depending on the month you visit it is an excellent place to see.

Best Hike Ever

By Sue F |

When visiting Harrah’s in Laughlin, Nevada during the spring, my husband, brother-in-law, and I decided to spend the day hiking at Grapevine Canyon. We easily followed the signs that directed us to the canyon from Laughlin. There was a short bumpy dirt road that lead us into a parking so you may want to avoid taking a small car. We visited during the week and had most of the canyon to ourselves. There was signage to hike at our own risk and to watch for flash floods. The hike took us along a dry sandy river bed with the most spectacular panoramic views. Shortly into our hike we were rewarded with ancient Native American Indian Petroglyphs on the rocks at eye level and close up – WOW. We began looking around only to discover more Petroglyphs higher in the rock formations. There were many trails but we seemed to wander admiring the 1,000 year old artwork and magnificent geological rock formations.

Suggested Hiking Tips:

Wear comfortable hiking shoes – Be prepared to encounter everything from a sandy river bed to loose gravel while climbing the canyon so make sure you have a good grip on your shoes.

Coverup – Either wear sunscreen or loose clothing to coverup your skin. You can easily spend 1/2 day hiking the canyon and the desert sun can cause havoc with unprotected skin.

Bring water – You are on a hike in the desert need I say more?

Be in shape – The terrain can be rough and it’s easy to become mesmerized with what the canyon has to offer. So, if you walk in make sure you are able to walk back out.

Take photos – Enjoy the day over and over when viewing your photos.

Research the history – After viewing the Petroglyphs you will thirst for more knowledge on the area so do some research before you hike.

Take the kids – Make this into a multipurpose hands-on experience. The kids can learn about desert habitat, rock formation, Native American Indians, and more.

This by far was one of our coolest hiking experience. The cactus and wild flowers were in bloom, the views were majestic, and Petroglyphs were more than we could image. I highly recommend a visit to this unique wonder in the desert.

WATCH FOR SNAKES

By Nancy F |

This was a great day trip. Get out of the casino for the day. It really was interesting to look at the petroglyphs.

Easy to Get To and Lots to See

By Susan H |

This is a must see if you are into pictographs. The drive in is only a couple of miles down a well marked and maintained dirt road. Then the walk in is in a sandy wash about 1/4 mile and there you will see a large number of pictographs amongst the rocks. So many to see and so easy to get to. You can hike in farther if you like, but I was more than thrilled with what we saw so close to the parking lot. Nice for those who don’t want a long hike.

Go!

By John W |

Some of the best petroglyphs ever. Most are very accessible. Easy drive /walk in. Don't miss this fantastic collection of ancient art and history.

A Very Spiritual Hike

By Mark B |

On our Christmas tree Pass trek we came out on the opposite end and pulled up into the Grapevine canyon rest area. We parked the car right by the washrooms which were clean and well kept. Around the bend you could see the grapevine canyon plaque with directions to the site and a brief history of the area. We walked through the mainly flat area with our kids and it was about 3/4 of a mile....so pretty easy. We did see a tarantula come out of a little bush that seemed to freak us out for a second and that was all part of the fun of the day. When we finally got to the petroglyphs it was super cool to see. We all just were in awe and stayed silent for a moment to let the spirituality sink in...lol awesome place

A bit of culture

By ostan14 |

Let's be honest, you won't get your fill of culture in Laughlin, so you will really appreciate a visit to see the petroglyphs in Grapevine canyon. The canyon is located down a very bumpy rough track of the road to Las Vegas. Our rental car just about made it, just drive very gingerly.

The petroglyphs are amazing, mysterious and very accessible. A must see if you are in the area.

Best free excursion!! Beautiful scenery

By murph711 |

What a wonderful excursion for the day. It is a dirt Road off of the main highway but it's flat and can be traveled with a small car. Very easy walk to the petroglyphs, which are right in front of you. No heavy climbing unless you have the urge to. You can walk down from the parking area to the dry creek bed and just walk straight into them. Simply gorgeous scenery and it's free. Christmas canyon is further down the dirt road but we only had time for grapevine. Just wear close toed shoes and bring a bottled water. Well worth the stop!!!

Amazing and Awe inspiring

By Dushiman |

I am surprised that this was listed as #6 of Things to Do in Laughlin.
Its a pretty flat hike, to see ancient sacred spiritual grounds.
Petroglyphs are easy to see in plain sight. Climb up the rocks, and you will see carvings from at least 800 years ago!
We went just before Christmas, and it was overcast, so we weren't in hot sun.
If you're quiet, and just listen, you may hear coyotes and other animals.
Beautiful place. Serene and moving.

Short ride from town, nice desert experience

By SDNetGeek |

We found Christmas Tree Pass/Grapevine Canyon listed on the visitlaughlin.com website, and those directions are accurate. The dirt road is quite bumpy, 10MPH is about it in my Explorer, but no major ruts and it's quite navigable even by car. The parking area at Grapevine Canyon (about 2.4mi from Highway 163) has a restroom and small information display. Walking to where the canyon narrows is only 10 minutes, beyond that is narrow and rocky but easily hiked for the reasonably fit. I hiked about 600 yards in the narrows and found a trickle of water (but this was Sept 2 so probably the low water point of the year). You can see that the vegetation is much greener than the rest of the desert so there's water there. The petroglyphs are/start right where the canyon narrows.

We also drove another 3-4 miles up the dirt road into the area, and we saw nothing major there. But if you are not one to go desert hiking, this is a pretty good way to get a desert environment 'feel' without being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Fantastic hike!

By Jola O |

This was a gem of a hike in the middle of the desert. I never expected to find a spring of water running through the middle of the canyon in the desert. It was fantastic! A volunteer was walking around telling us stories and helping us navigate the area. Take Christmas Tree Pass road outside of Laughlin, NV and drive down a dirt road for about 2 miles. We took our truck for this expedition and were glad.

Grapevine Canyon, a sacred place

By Karin T |

Grapevine Canyon is a sacred place to many Native American tribes and wonderful opportunity to view 100s of ancient petroglyphs. It is located approximately 10 minutes West of Laughlin, Nevada off of NV road 163; turn onto a hard packed dirt road marked "Christmas Tree Pass" and travel 2 miles to the parking lot. A fairly easy, level path will take you 1/4 mile to the canyon. If you choose to walk the dry river bed, expect loose sand similar to beach walking. Once you arrive at the canyon, there are some fallen rocks (that do not have petroglphs) that provide a seat for those that want to take a rest and contemplate the meanings of these ancient symbols. Exploring the canyon, you will find the wild grapevines that have existed for centuries. ai sense that this was and is a very important place to the Native Americans tribes. In the Spring, there were wild grapes and water. During my visit, I viewed lizards, birds and butterflies. If you plan to hike the canyon, wear study shoes, carry water and enjoy! From Las Vegas, I recommend taking US93 to NV163 and approaching Christmas Tree Pass road from the South, (not the West from US93), unless you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Day trip to grapevine canyon

By Ute P |

Tired of gambling all day, I was looking up things to do around Laughlin,NV when I stumbled upon a section about the petroglyphs at grapevine canyon. Took my husband and friends and boy did we have a great time exploring. Wear good shoes and bring fresh water and a jacket. Well worth the drive. Drive the loop and look for mountain lions, mountain goats and giant jack rabbits

Beautiful hike and lots of petroglyphs

By Sue T |

I highly recommend this stop to hike and to see the many petroglyphs in this canyon. I have hiked many areas in Nevada and this area has the most petroglyphs that I have ever seen in one location. The parking lot to the trailhead is about 15 minutes out of Laughlin, along a dirt/gravel road. We brought our picnic lunch and ate in the parking lot as it was a beautiful sunny warm day. We met people from California and Alaska. We continued on the dirt road through Christmas Pass, where there are some beautiful rock peaks. Nice area to spend an afternoon!!!! Be careful, there are some potholes and ruts in the road.

Very Interesting

By Cheryl S |

After leaving Laughlin on our way back to Vegas, we took Christmas Tree Pass and stopped to look at the petroglyphs. We were there on a week day and there we only one other couple at the site when we were there. Lots of small lizards, but it was early in the year so no other interesting area creatures. We got a very solemn vibe when were were there and it is cool when people respect the fact that this is sacred ground to the Indians who inhabited the area. The whole ride through the canyon provides spectacular views. We had a Ford Explorer and there were only a few spots where I would say it was preferable over a car. We also saw a lot of wild jackrabbits crossing the pass at one point as well. We highly recommend the visit.

Holy Ground

By Nancy K |

If you appreciate nature and Indian artifacts you will be greatly blessed by this short excursion
I will start by saying that the early inhabitants were definitely trying to communicate through the marade of Petroglyphs still legible. The entrance to the Canyon is covered with their artwork.
As you meander up the trail, you are lead to the back of the canyon where you are greeted by a fresh water spring. Half way up the trail introduces you to the wild grape vines that our ancestors were in search of.

A nice outing!

By happymiles |

This is a nice place to visit. A short drive from Laughlin. Easy to get to and a comfortable walk for most anyone. A lot of petroglyphs to see to see without much effort. If you feel like a bit more exercise you can climb some of the rocks to get a closer view. It can be just a short visit but if you want to spend more time just investigate more!

Get up with the sun and see this!

By Coy B |

Best time to walk out is just after sunrise. This has so many petroglyphs that you will be amazed! I recommend you wear long pants and watch out for snakes but if you make noise you will have no problems. It is quiet and beautiful, and not to be missed!

good little out of the way adventure

By Keith B |

It is a great adventure especially for those who like to travel and see unique things and History. Makes you wonder what the plateau was like over 1000 years ago.

Just a short hop off the main highway

By Jesse M |

It was a hot day but the walk was not unbearable. We drove into the canyon area and parked, then walked for about fifteen minutes. The rock writing is everywhere. While it was not a major attraction, when going to Laughlin, you should check them out. It's history.

Wonderful for everyone

By altima2000 |

Getting there on a sand or gravel road is safe but somewhat slow going. Well worth the trip, plenty of petroglyphs to see. Wonderful scenery. Met up with a forest ranger who was very friendly, restrooms on site were a bonus. Must see.

By 2Mountain_Frogs |

We love making the small walk (not really a hike) from the parking area up to Grapevine Canyon and exploring all the petroglyphs and wethered sand stone structures. The amazing desert wildlife is always stunning, no matter the time of year you visit! If you visit in the late Spring/ Summer months, bring lots of water! Always bring your camera! Sometimes you may be lucky enough to meet up with a Lake Mead Ranger on the trail, they are excellent for history nd answers about the area!

Definately, a MUST SEE/ DO while in Laughlin, NV or Bullhead City, AZ!!! You won't be disappointed!

Don't miss this !

By NellyBellyDuluth |

I would recommend leaving the casinos for a while, because this is just awesome ! It is a nice hike in the desert, so I would say go earlier in the day before it gets too hot. The petroglyphs are are plentiful and easy to see. I felt like I was in a piece of history !

Nice place

By Quadyak |

A nice place not too hard to get too and only a small hike or a bigger one if you desire. A little warm in the summer so go early if going in the spring or summer.

Very cool!

By momdzall |

All the brochures I saw stated there "was an unmarked road 7 miles west of Laughlin on Rt. 163", we counted the miles, and saw a nice green sign saying "Christmas Tree Pass"!! 2 miles in on packed, sandy road is a parking area and restrooms! Nice easy walk about 1/4 mile to canyon. there are petroglyphs at canyon entrance. Wouldn't recommend walking into canyon if you are unsteady on your feet at all....have to walk on rocks, loose sand.....I wore sturdy tennis shoes & had no problem. Plan on returning and driving the 18 mile Christmas Tree pass. Beautiful area!

Really great experience

By Donald S |

On our trip from Vegas to Laughlin, we could not find the road. Found it on the way back to Vegas. It’s a two mile drive on a washboard road, but our rental van handled it fine. Just drive slow! After hitting the parking area, you have a 1/4 mile walk to the site. It’s crunchy stones (like walking on beach sand). It’s well worth the trip. Both of us being 74, we could only view the close stuff(I understand there is much more if you’re young enough to do the hiking).

About a 1/4 mile hike before you see anything.

By Larry R |

Reasonable level walk to petrographs. Couldn't really tell which were authentic Native American and those that were more recent imitations. It's free so what the heck! About 2 miles down dirt road off main hwy. If you're driving from the north it's about 6 miles before you get to Laughlin. We had to double back.

Lots of Petroglyphs

By Leslie C |

Great little trail with lots to see.
Thousands of Petroglyphs, very little water.
We hiked during November because it is extremely hot during the summer.
We will be going back during the spring to see the grapevines all greened up.

Excellent Hike

By maddie59 |

We took this hike and really enjoyed it. To get to the Indian drawings is pretty fast as they are about 1/4 mile from the parking area. The real treat is to go up into the hills. It involves a bit of climbing so you have to be able to crawl over rocks and scramble up hills. That said its nothing to strenous. I am over 50 and not in great shape and I managed. Some of the views are just fantastic. Do take plenty of water. If you leave from Vegas to get there, it will be much warmer at the hike than in Vegas. We left Vegas and its was in the low 80s but at Laughlin its was right at 100. Its easy to find although you have to take a 2 mile dirt road. Its well manicured and we did it in a Ford Taurus. If you like geting outside and doing something mildy strenous then go here if you have time.

Some of the most accesible in the southwest

By rexhans |

We have hiked to a lot of places looking at petroglyphs. These are some of the most easy to reach. It is a simple hike from the parking area to the site. the perfect respite after a day inside. don't miss it.

Worth a visit

By 904TravellingChef |

An accessible canyon with a great many petroglyphs. Not too far to walk from the parking lot and an interesting alternative to the casino-based entertainment in the town.

Outstanding images

By Randa H |

True amazing. Over 700 images, you can walk right up to them. Wear comfortable shoes take water. Not a far hike from parking lot. So much to see, relax and take binoculars.

An easy way to view petroglyphs with the family.

By ESS_lover |

Grapevine Canyon was easy to find off of the highway. There was parking spaces with a sign marking the entrance to the trail that leads you to a dried creek bed. You walk a short ways and you enter a canyon and see petroglyphs on the rocks on either side of you. Very cool. It's an easy hike and not that far. I recommend a few things:
Wear good walking shoes that are closed toe since you'll be climbing over rocks.
Bring water. You will get thirsty.
Start early. We wished we had started earlier in the day. We didn't get out there until mid afternoon and it was hot.
There's also lots of little black flies. Insect repellant would have been a good idea too.

hot but worth the walk

By Juan V |

This is a place to go and hike and relax. Take in mother nature and look at the petroglyphs left on the rocks by various indian tribes that past thru the area. It's only a 10 minute drive north of Laughlin. I highly recommend to anyone that can appreciate history and what the indians went thru to survive. We will definitly come back everytime we come to Laughlin. Besides you can't lose any money there.

What a great Site

By RoOSully |

Great Indians Writings!! Nice short walk. Best done in cooler temps. Maybe Spring late Fall and Winter.

Pleasant suprise

By NCtravellingdoc |

This is very close to Laughlin..take the Christmas tree Pass exit. The road is gravel but it is grated well and well maintained. You do not need 4 wheel drive. I just got back from Kenya and this would be considered a highway with truck and car traffic. Take the right turn at the fork. The trail to the first petroglyphs is only 1/4 mile. You can go on the trail or if you have some mobility problems walk in the wash if it's not rainy season..wonderful petroglyphs

Easily accessible, neat to see, and a great hike if you decide to continue

By AdventuringAF |

This was such a great find. The petroglyphs are really neat to see and very easy to get to. We continued on with the hike for another mile and a half but it wasn't an easy one. Not sure where I read the review that said "stay left, stay left stay left on the hike!" but whatever dude... can you elaborate a little more at which point(s) you stay left?! We stayed left for the entire hike and I think it may have been the hardest route at some points!
It is an absolutely gorgeous hike though, as long or as short as you make it, and definitely worth the stop. Remember to bring lots of water with you!

Quick little field trip!

By soyChiquis |

This was a nice way to start our return trip home. It took about 20 minutes from the casino area in Laughlin to get to the trailhead for the petroglyphs. Easy drive on a dirt road, just a little bumpy, not too dusty. The trail to the petroglyphs was easy but sandy, about a 15 minute walk. Definitely better to visit in the late fall or winter. Cool boulder rocks to climb to see the petroglyphs.

Rattlesnakes !

By chris h |

Seems like almost all of the petroglyph are at the very beginning of the canyon. About quarter Mike from the parking lot. Saw a big rattle snake about 5 feet away in our path on the rocks. Watch your step !

Simply Beautiful

By StraightLineElect |

Wife and i found a cooler day and decided to go on a short hike, wow are we glad we decided to pick this canyon to go into. The Indian (native American) drawings were incredible the the hike is pretty low key, just make sure you have decent shoes on and watch where you step. The views were quite breathtaking.

Good Hiking area

By FayW467 |

This is a well kept 'secret'; but worth a little drive and a hike. There are petroglyphs along the sides of Grapevine Canyon; you just have to look up! it is a fairly easy hike and worth a little rock climbing to find small springs and water sources. Grapevine Canyon is west of Laughlin off the highway going toward Las Vegas; you can get directions by asking Chamber of Commerce or tourist information centers. Be sure to lock your car... don't leave anything within sight... you are hiking away from the vehicle even though it is in a parking area you need to be careful.

WOW, just WOW!

By Vecchio7 |

This is like the easiest hike with amazing desert scenery. Plus you get to see ancient petroglyphs. We go every year because the kids love to see it and it is so much fun. I highly recommend this great little nature walk.

Great to get off the Strip

By Debbie J |

This was a nice hike and the petroglyphs were amazing!

Grapevine Canyon is exciting!

By donaldmE858TE |

As we walked in I was excited to see what looks like a giant skull. This is to the left, up high and large. It really stands out. I turned this in to the Park Dept. and no one knew about it The Petroglyphs are great too. It's a fun adventure. So I discovered an ancient piece of history. This was 2017.

Must see!

By Alaughnp |

I've been to Laughlin several times and never knew this was here until I looked at Trip Advisor! So glad we had the opportunity to get there. We only had a couple of hours and would have liked to spend more time. Very peaceful and serene place, easy hike to get to the petroglyphs.

Very nice easy hike

By Gina503 |

Easy hike to see the Indian drawings and maybe some wildlife and if the right time of year a small waterfall!

Beautiful canyon

By Shirley H |

Wow, anybody would want to go there...You must love dessert and canyons..I want to go there again. It would be a fun place to hike and just sit and watch sunsets..

INTERESTING PETROGLYPHS

By DarylJ552 |

Grapevine Canyon is a few miles northwest of Laughlin. You have to turn right on a gravel road and drive 2 miles to the parking area. Then you have to walk several hundred yards in a dry riverbed to get to the petroglyphs which are all over the rocks in the canyon. The drawings are over a thousand years old and it's a nice side trip when the weather is good.

For the archeologist in all of us

By kellermaryrose |

It’s like driving on a washboard to get to the trailhead but you can do it. It is a short walk straight ahead to get to the site. There are no signs except one that tells you to go at your own risk. Even if you don’t think you need it, take water. The wind totally dehydrates you. The views are from another time and place and you will wonder why this place was chosen to leave the symbols. You won’t regret the effort to visit.

Hidden gem

By Stan9898 |

Beautiful site in the desert. Lots of petroglyphs and native
plants. Grapevines in the desert??!! Yes, wild grapes!
Some strenuous climbing of the rocks to get to the top of the canyon. Beautiful views.

Way cool

No regrets here just a short walk into some really old history, as always leave only foot prints please, my grandchildren need to see this! Just a short drive from Laughlin and 4wd isn't required great road, camera and water is all you need!

Close by and beautiful.

By TSExpert |

Views and rock climbing are worth the short drive. Wear long pants and good shoes

hike to petroglyps

By PPB2016 |

it is a mile long rough road going to the parking station of the park and a 500 meters walk to the place where you can see the petroglyphs on the rocks. you can even climb higher to the mountain to see more of these. It was amazing and worth travel and walk.

By donmart |

If you don't mind driving on a dusty dirt road and taking a short hike, a must see. Just the rock formations are worth the short walk, and the petroglyphs are very impressive. Make sure to bring water with you. Watch your step climbing the rocks, there is a lot of loose bebris, very easy to slip and fall. Don't forget to bring a camera!

Grapevine Canyon a Glympse into the Distant Past

By Ken E |

This is a great side trip and should be done only from November to March due to heat in the other months. It is 20 minutes from Laughlin and the dirt road is usually in graded condish so any car can make it. Google it for location. The only facilities there are clean restrooms with no running water. The Glyphs are about 1/2 mile from the dirt park lot and easy to see and get close to but do not touch as the same oils that leave fingerprints will slowly destroy these ancient artifacts. Remember Take only pictures, leave only foot prints....always.

Hiking beyond the Glyphs will require some dexterity and coordination (a friends 72 y/o mom did it though) and it goes and goes way back into what appears to be a box canyon (we turned around after about an hour and a half hike). Good Exploring and would be really cool after a rain shower with flowing water. All the Glyphs are right at the beginning though. Enjoy!!!

Treasure in the desert

By roberta y |

Grapevine canyon is a wonderful canyon full of petroglyphs just outside of Laughlin. Very interesting and educational side trip. It is very hot so take lots of water. The are port-a-potties on site.

A quiet stroll through Indian graffiti.

By luban |

The Canyon is a little off the beaten path down a gravel road. It is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of casino row. The walk is enjoyable listening to the birds and reaching the hieroglyphics Indians have etched in the stone many years ago.Beautiful views of Spirit Mountain from here. A walking stick or such is recommended to get up higher to look at the etchings above.Just sitting there on the rocks is a great place to meditate and listen to nature go by.

In touch with American Native Culture

By Matusla |

Great place to hike and see wildflowers in spring time and see the native art. At times you can see the water appear out of the local spring and then suddenly disappear.

Nice Hike

By stevec1222018 |

Little rough drive down a gravel and dirt road. Nice hike and great to see the petroglyphs on the rocks. Plan to do it when it is not scorching hot. Wore my hiking shoes and took my walking stick and a hat. Make things a little easier.

Breathtaking

By THINGS2LIVE4 |

The trailhead is apx. two miles off of Nevada Route 163, about five minutes from Laughlin, you turn down Christmas Tree Pass. You go down a dirt road, my small car able to handle it. You only have to walk about a quarter mile from the trail head (easy walk) to see the petroglyphs. It is amazing when you think that these were put there thousands of years ago. Please beware if you want to actually hike into the canyon it is a difficult hike. Just doing the quarter mile hike to see the petroglyphs would have been a five star experience in itself. If you do hike into the canyon please beware of the temperature.

A great site to see what it was like to cross the desert by wagon.

By Cartunman |

A great experience.
An excellent collection of some of the finest petroglyphs I have ever seen.
You expect a wagon train or the Cartwrights to be riding down the gulch. Go two times. Once after a dry time and once after a wet winter. The difference is the desert flowers on the wet years.

Wonderful

By ylmonte |

We went to see the Indians petroglyphs, it was nice to see part of the tribus culture. As well as to see the magnificent mountains and there beautiful colors.

By Julie M |

We always take a hike through this amazing area. It's one of the main reasons we come to Laughlin, and it's a great diversion from the bustle of the river walk.

Like to Hike

By casinolover1 |

Easily accessible.
Even though it is a dirt road to get to the location, it has been very well cleared and maintained.
Good signage to get you there.
Area seems to be respected by most visitors.

Historical

By Lillian B |

Prepare for some desert walking. You will see rock writing of people that were here long before we were.

Awesome petroglyphs & they're RIGHT THERE.

By liylu |

Short essay walk from trailhead to Canyon abt. 1/2 mile and THERE THEY ARE covering the rocks on either side of the canyon, like guards @ the gates.
Some appear recent/modern...lots of geometric shapes, unsure of their age.
But the rock showing a goat or sheep hunt was the BEST. You have to scramble up a steep hill to get a close up look (but don't touch) and watch out for snakes but it was so worth it.

Beautifull

By ja499 |

First time we visited was a little bit foggy but this time soooo beautiful. You can not leave there without being in awe.

Worth the short side trip.

By Tom H |

Worth discovering if you're into pictographs/petroglyphs. Fascinating area. Close enough to Laughlin. Not recommended for handicapped mobility.

Amazing!!!

By Cayla E |

Absolutely incredible! Be prepared it climb & hike around if you want to see them all. You can view from the ground, but if you want to get up close & personal you’ll have to climb up. I could have stayed here for days just embracing the art & peacefulness.

If you like petroglyphs, this is it!

By NoDak F |

This is one of the few places left to go for free. It is a very short drive outside Laughlin, easy to get to. It is so peaceful there. Kids would also love it. Wear good walking shoes. The petroglyphs are easily visible from the trail, but you can also do some climbing. I was glad I brought my camera with a zoom lens.

excellent petroglyphs

By d f |

Grapevine Canyon is an excellent destination for anyone interested in Native American petroglyphs or for anyone wanting a scenic walk through this part of the Nevada landscape. The terrain is easily negotiated with a moderate amount of care, and one may carefully scale the many boulders and rock formations to find the petroglyphs, though many may be seen from the ground level. Do not touch the rock art while exploring, and be cautious of your foot placement as many petroglyphs are carved on the horizontal surface of the rocks. The patterns and designs offered here are very interesting - mostly geometric forms and symbols, many layered on top of each other creating a rich web of imagery. A great place to spend a day with a camera.

Wow.

By Frederick B |

After a difficult 2 mile drive over a gravel road you come to the trailhead for Grapevine Canyon. A very easy 1/4 mile hike will bring you to dozens of petroglyphs that are thousands of years old. It was astonishing to look at writings done by the ancients. Well worth the ride and walk.

Grapevine Canyon A+

By Bernice |

Just a few minutes north of Laughlin. This is a must see for the hiker and someone who likes the outdoors.

So many interesting things to see! I know I’ll be sure to go again and take my teenage children along.

Be sure to stay on the paths and do not disturb sensitive areas being reclaimed.

I was here late December, and no sign of snakes or anything else creepy crawly at this time.

Petroglyphs

By Riastone |

This is a place where you need hiking boots and long pants and plenty of water. Wish we had researched it better. It's a nice place to visit if your prepared right. We went last minute. You have to walk around to see the rocks. We were to scared since we were alone. Very "These hills have eyes-ish" LOL. I would go back tho!!

A surprise

By Michael M |

This place is well worth the short hike it takes to get there but once you arrive you will be amazed by the miriad of indian petroglyphs on all sides of you. Take time to look around because there are alot that are hidden somewhat from just a look around.

Wear sensible footwear

By Marion R |

Located on Christmas Tree Pass, this is a great activity that is free. The walk to the rocks with the Petroglyphs is along dirt and loose rocks. Sensible footwear is a must. This is not a place for flip flops.

Grapevine to Christmas Tree Pass.

By Y4057TGroberts |

After visiting and hiking Grapevine continue driving into the mountains. You'll come upon Christmas Tree Pass which is almost surreal when first seen. People have decorated the trees with their old Christmas decorations. What a site in the desert and mountains. It's a pretty rough road but just take it slow. The road goes all the way through and you can't get lost staying on the road.

Another great thing to do passing through or staying in Laughlin! Only about 15 minutes from town, a short walk, not suitable for wheelchairs, climbing over boulders. But the petroglyphs are visible only 1/4 mile from parking. So maybe some with limited mobility can see some.

Hiking & Petroglyphs

By 1010Reggie |

Beautiful canyon hike and viewing petroglyphs. Well-maintained, clean facilities. Hiking shoes to climb a must!

Very cool

By VegasCat15 |

Make sure to bring water. We had water but could of used more. We were there about noon to 1sh, with the high sun it was hard to see some of them, but had fun searching. Don't wear flip flops out here, tennis shoes are fine. You can do some climbing on the rocks, you can also see lots of them by not climbing. We spend about 2 hours there but can be more if you want to explore. We ran into a guy who told us of the spring that has cool water running and a spot where they still do ceremonies, but we were on our way back and didn't want to explore more. Highly recommended.

Our favorite attraction

By rlmptl |

I am glad we went here while it was warm too ...the walk was not very long and really a good selection of petroglyphs to view...make sure when you first enter the canyon to look up to the left to see the deer looking ones ...and further up is a nice little cave we climbed up to. On a hot day you would want plenty of water....we spent at least two hours here and my hubby hiked up past the little stream but you would need to have very good shoes and be very agile to go past this point. there were swarms of bees near the little bit of water there. a nice lizard sunning itself and interesting rock formations, colors and vegetation....loved it !!!!

Surprisingly accessible!

By cw318is |

Grapevine canyon had been on the list for a while, so it was great to finally visit. The start of the canyon walls are pretty close to the trailhead but we would recommend staying on the higher ground as the ground is a lot firmer. The first 1/2 mile is very easy going but after that you will need to start a bit of gentle climbing to get over some rock features. It is very peaceful and you will see a bit of wildlife, thankfully we didn't come across any rattlesnakes but they are definitely there. There is a restroom at the trailhead parking lot but it is quite primitive! Definatly worth a couple of hours out though, its a beautiful, natural area and the petroglyphs are very interesting. You don't need to go down into the canyon to see most of them as the biggest concentration seemed to be at the entrance.

You can get to the canyon from either US95 or US163. US163 is a lot easier and quicker being about 2 miles down a well graded smoothish track- we did it in a Mustang. We did go back via Christmas Tree Pass onto US95 but I really wouldn't recommend it without an SUV or 4x4 as the road isn't metalled and there are quite a few ruts and quite a loose surface.

Nice Little Hike

By John B |

Makes for a nice little hike. Well worth the time and effort I have done this hike a few times fall and winter are by far the better times of the year to do this I’m 75 and it’s not that big of a challenge. Hope you enjoy as much as I do

Worth the walk

Worth the short drive and walk to see a lot of petroglyphs. In June it was already to hot to go past the first set of rocks and deep in the canyon.

Petroglyphs (images on rocks)

By Mou2 |

View what the real people of the area left behind. Many Petroglyphs (images on rocks) that were drawn by native people of this land. Easy to get to and close to the main road. This is a must see if you are interested in the Native American culture.

An incredible canyon with petroglyphs and bathrooms

By Brythonic |

As you can see from all of the posted pictures, the canyon has loads of petroglyphs (most are real, some are obviously not). It is an easy hike, regardless of what the sign at the front may say. Parking is close by, safe, and there are actually bathrooms. The hills of the canyon offer a wonderful collection of climbing opportunities, although people should stay clear of any petroglyphs, as climbing on them could easily damage them.

Big Surprise

By Robert S |

My wife and brother and sister-in-law went on this short hike when visiting Laughlin, NV. It was a short drive and a easy hike. Be careful on the steep rock slab. At the top, there is a very nice view.

Wonderful--stunning--petroglyph panels

By landart |

For archeology enthusiasts, hikers, nature lovers...this is a spectacular rocky setting with hundreds of fascinating petroglyphs on some of the largest panels in the Southwest. Serene setting.

Interesting to see

By Patricia B |

Average outing to see Indian markings on rocks. Watch your step for critters as you walk through the brush. Interesting to see but not much outside of seeing the markings.

Excellent piece of ancient history

By Ewestpfahl |

This is an amazing piece of cultural native american history. This is an ancestral area for them so be respectful.

The area is maintained by the National Park Service and while the road says 4x4 recommended, ANY car can drive the gravel road from the highway (163).

The restrooms are in the parking lot maintained constantly but they are single "pit vaults".

The walk from the parking lot to the petroglyphs is about 1/3 of a mile through the desert. While there is no "official" trail it is well worn. Most people will walk the left trail above the wash to get there and take the wash back to the parking lot. Be aware that if you walk off the "beaten" path, you are VERY likely to step on a Teddy Bear Cholla cactus skeleton. These will go right though many shoe types and the spines HURT!

Since the walk is through the desert, wheelchairs are NOT advised and NOT practice. Regardless of which way you take to get to the glyphs, you will have to walk down a hill about 30 feet tall. You don't have to be in great shape as the walk is level (save the 30 foot part) but you need to be able to walk on gravel and walk down-up that little hill.

There are hundreds of Native American Petroglyphs in the immediate area. If you choose to continue hiking into the mountains from the main area be aware that there is NO trails. It is all at your own risk and you will have to do a fair amount of bouldering.

SUMMER Travel NOT advised. It gets HOT here. 125 degrees in the summer is NOT out of the ordinary. Your flip flops and 1 20oz bottle of water is not going to cut it. You need to plan ahead. While its only a short walk, if you have medical conditions you may want to put this off until the winter when you can spend some time sitting down on the rocks wondering what the glyphs mean.

Don't walk on the petroglyphs and certainly don't try to chip any of them off as a souvenir. Remember, you are on Federally protected land and the Park Service will prosecute if you attempt to vandalize or steal the artifacts.

A classic hike for the locals

By torribug |

Just a nice little hike to get away from the town. This isn't an "attraction" per se, but it is a nice little hike.

Hidden Gem

By Heidi Z |

We actually live in Laughin. Yes, we live here all year long. Grapevine Canyon is one of our favorite places to go and it's a place we always bring our guests who come to visit us. It is unexpected amidst all the touristy things in Laughlin. The petroglyphs are worth seeing and it's a beautiful setting with a beautiful view. It's a short drive on a dirt road and then a 1/4 mile easy walk to get there. Oh, and it is free. Just be respectful because it is considered sacred land by the local tribes. Also don't go if it is raining. The last thing you want to do is get stuck in a canyon when a flash flood hits. It doesn't rain often.

I'd go there again....

By Bonnie A |

don't go when its really hot outside. It is a walk in the dessert, but we did enjoy the Petglagriphys very much.

Weekend getaway

By mitzymay |

We were at the casinos but wanted to get out and explore. This is a small walk in hiking area. It is free so it is worth it. It is close to Casino Drive. It was nice just to walk around. Not recommend for strollers, wheelchairs or people that are un-steady walking.

Petroglyph Extravaganza

By Valarie A |

We were in Laughlin for a few days and did not want to spend all our time in the casinos. We had read years ago about the petroglyphs which are located close by and decided that this was the time to visit. It is a short drive northwest of Laughlin. The dirt road off the highway is rough but you are only on it for 2 miles. Once in the parking area it is a short 1/4 to 1/2 mile walk (level) to the mouth of the canyon where you can view the petroglyphs. There are many to see. Well worth the time.

The highlight of our visit to Laughlin

By Gordon13798465 |

Grapevine Canyon lies a couple of miles down a dirt road to Christmas Tree Pass. The sign says 4x4 recommended, but we and the other people there that day did fine in regular 2-wheel-drive passenger cars. The road gets a bit rough and washboard-y at times, so you may have to take it slow or endure a bumpy ride.

There is parking for 20 or so cars; we did not see the sand-stranded Jeep mentioned in another review, so someone has retrieved it. There are also handicap-accessible restrooms available there.

The path is not well marked, and you can take multiple routes to reach the canyon; I advise wandering a bit to see the area. We saw several lizards, a hare or two, and many hawks or other birds-of-prey circling in search of a meal. There are also a fair number of flies and gnats, which encourage you not to loiter in one spot too long.

The petroglyphs densely populate the entrance to the canyon, and cover many rocks. The path winds up, into the canyon, and becomes narrow and difficult at times. We followed it for about 1/4 of a mile before we were forced to choose between climbing up over some rocks (with no equipment), forcing our way through a densely-grown area with a swarm of wasps or flies (we couldn't tell which) or turning back. (We turned back.)

It was a great outing, we got some exercise and saw some cool stuff, and I would recommend it highly.

This is cool!

By CRtravelerDenver_CO |

Its just a short hike .25 miles to the petroglyphs. A very nice find. It's about 6 miles outside of Laughlin. If you want to do a longer hike it gets steep quickly. The grapevines are awesome and the blooms of the spring in the valley were beautiful!

ANCIENT HISTORY AT YOUR LEISURE

By whopper65 |

The nicest thing aboug Grapevine Canyon is you can choose how much you want to see, and the difficulty you are willing to endure to see it. Much can be seen without having to hike very far, and that scenery is a little amazing. Now that they've graded and improved the entrance to the site, you can now get their by an ordinary car. You don't need a truck or SUV anymore. Next heavy rain, however, may change that temporarily. Nature at its finest, and well worth going a little out of your way on an unpaved road. Quite a few photo ops.

ancient drawings/awesome vibe

By rodeolowdeedo |

A real jewel in the Mojave desert. Follow the wash less than 1/4 mile to find this well-preserved yet unrestricted area. With little effort, you can get quite close to these petroglyphs (of course, use care not to disturb them). Alonfside the trail, there are some cacti variations that I had never seen before, such as the pencil cactus. If you hike far enough, past the petroglphs, you'll find a small stream and a desert oasis. Definitely wear treaded shoes because the slick rock is okay to climb but difficult to descend.

A must see

By Catherine E |

Did some hiking and a little climbing. Cool petroglyphs although we never saw the one in the picture. Nice quiet place

Interesting Hike to Native American Rock Art

By joeinsocal2017 |

This was an interesting approximately mile hike to many Native American pictographs that area dwellers chipped into rock faces hundreds of years ago. A very impressive variety of images and designs, and some are so high, you have to wonder how they reached those points to create the designs. The drive is two miles up a dirt road to a dirt parking area at the trailhead, and there are chemical toilet restrooms located there. A sign at the start of the main dirt road from the highway says "4x4s recommended," but the road to the rock art trailhead was no problem for our sedan, and several other similar cars also traveled there with no problem. The 4x4 notice likely refers to the main dirt road that continues for several more miles past the turn-off for the rock art. We visited in November, so the weather was pleasant, but do take some water regardless of time of year.

fun hike

By Nan G |

not to bad but I was nervous on the dirt road to the actual canyon. Interesting art on the rocks. I also met a rattlesnake.

Trip to the past

By Karli036 |

We first visited the Canyon when we were staying in Bullhead City two years ago. It is awe inspiring, easily accessible and free admission. We returned as a refresher in local history and to enjoy the beauty of the terrain. It's an easy walk from the parking area, which has facilities, to the petroglyphs. It's well worth the trip.

Really enjoyed

By Rick M |

We really enjoyed the short drive and once we got there the short hike to see the petroglyphs of years past.

Worth the trip

By Edward B |

10 minutes away from town. The petroglyphs are amazing and it is cool to see the grapevines in the Canyon in the middle of the desert! It is about 1/2 mile from the parking lot to the canyon through the wash or you could walk around the wash if it is easier for you.

Phenomenal petroglyphs

By Linda R |

Within a short driving distance and 1/4 mile easy hike, are dozens of petroglyphs. Although vandals have chipped away at these priceless artifacts, there are still quite a few left to appreciate. If you need a break from the casinos, this is definitely a must-visit!

Petroglyphs Galore!

By ilt35 |

Very easy drive from Laughlin, NV/Bullhead City, AZ area. Not a difficult walk. Amazing the number of petroglyphs to be seen. (I've been to Capitol Reef National Park in UT and Valley of Fire, NV State Park. The Grapevine Canyon petroglyphs were more interesting and numerous compared to the other parks.

The area has interesting rock formations and other desert flora for those who have no desert experience. Only going to this area to gamble??? Take a little side trip and see the beauty of our nation with a little history thrown in. This area is a little gem!

Nice place for a walk

By Gorgonzola_DK |

The place is only a short ride away from all the hotels. The access road is a dirt road, but is an easy ride by a car with average ground clearance.

The trail is easy in general, and towards the end it get a bit more difficult and involves some light climbing/stepping on rocks if you are up to this.

We would recommend that you set aside around 1 1/2 hour for this walk, and bring some comfortable walking shoes.

Love!

By romazzino |

Grapevine Canyon is gorgeous! From the rock formations to the amazing petroglyphs which are hundreds of years old, this is a must see when in the Laughlin area. Not a far drive from Las Vegas and easy access. The road that leads to the petroglyphs is not paved but in good condition for a 2-wheel drive vehicle. There are restrooms available in the parking area.

Worth the drive out!

By shakuroo |

We were looking for a nature trek to do while in the Laughlin area which is full of buildings and casino. The drive out to the canyon was about 15 minutes. Easy 2 mile drive on the dirt road with our RAV. Easy walk thru the river bed to the entrance of the canyons where the petroglyphs are located. We did not hike further as it was stepper with rock climbing and we were not prepared with hiking shoes. The carvings are well preserved. I just wish I knew what the meanings are.

A Hidden Gem in the Desert

By Bratschmom |

I love the desert and history. This has the best of both worlds. I visited in the spring, near Easter Sunday and I was completely blessed by the beauty of the canyon. The rocks were painted by the light misting of rain and the vegetation was in full bloom. The pictographs are always interesting and rich in history. Bring a chair and take in the views with a picnic dinner. You will not be disappointed!

So Cool to See

By SHWTraveler |

Really worth going out of the way to see. Only a few miles out of town and about a quarter mile hike.

Off the Beaten Path Fun Visit

By as400avp |

My Wife and I visit Grapevine Canyon at least once a year on the way to Harrah’s Laughlin. It is a short distance from Laughlin on Christmas Tree Pass road. Christmas Tree Pass is about 16 miles long from the north, however it is an non paved road. The easiest way to Grapevine Canyon is from the south in which it’s less than a half mile from the entrance. There are hundreds of rock art Petroglyphs which are among the oldest and best preserved in this general area. There is no fee to enter the area. As always, be sure to look up high on the rocks and off the beaten path. Have fun exploring!

A petroglyph lovers delight

By Melody_L938 |

The sign says 4 wheel drive recommended but the road was easy to navigate. We have a Honda Pilot but there were several other small sedans. The petroglyphs were fascinating and are right there, although binoculars are helpful for some of the more distant ones. We also just enjoyed the geology of the canyon. The hike is short and the whole trip does not take much time. Of note, although the pictographs are close they have suffered little vandalism.

Unexpected...

By Lita K |

My family has been traveling to Laughlin for over 20 years and we never knew about this site. Heck, even most locals didn't realize this site existed. It truly is a gem of a spot in the middle of the desert. We even enjoyed the short drive along Christmas Tree Pass to get to the parking area - mind you this was all unpaved. Note--GPS on smartphone cuts in and out of cell service so it's a good idea to know your route before you jump in the car. My two teenage boys and pre-teen liked the mild hike and were fascinated by the petroglyphs. I'd recommend this site to anyone!

Petroglyphs galore

By treehead2 |

Grapevine Canyon is a favorite of tourists and locals alike. The dirt road just north of Needles Highway on 163 is worth the drive. The road was in fairly good condition the day we went up. Road can be bumpy due to use but short drive to Grapevine. Can make the hike as long as you like.

Worth going too

By Albertagirl_8 |

We visited today, nice quick drive from the casinos, easy walk to the petroglyphs down the wash. You can spend an hour or several hours exploring. Wear good shoes/boots, water & hat. No services.

Beautiful and mysterious

By The Elusive Armadillo |

We went to Grapevine Canyon the day after it had rained and we took a truck as the roads were pretty rough. There was room to park in the lot and washroom facilities there. The walk up to the actual petroglyphs is only a few minutes and once you get there it’s so amazing. The petroglyphs are everywhere. We followed some trails through the rocks and brush which I would not advise if you have mobility issues. But if you’re up for it, you can clamber along deeper into the trails to see all sorts of fascinating drawings. If you’re not up for that, there is still plenty to see. Due to the time of year, we were not worried about snakes and even saw a few small lizards.

The most beautiful and serene setting for petroglyphs. About 1/4 mile walk from parking lot and need to drive 2 miles on a passable dirt road. I loved loved it

Great place!

By Judy2366 |

This is a very interesting place to explore. It is a short drive from Laughlin. The road is dirt but well maintained. If you travel through to 95 it gets a little harder to travel if you are in a small car. It is a short walk from the petroglyphs from the parking area. Take plenty of water as there is not any place to get any.

Great Petroglyph Hike!

By omegaprix |

I'm no expert but I've seen my fair share of petroglyphs hiking in the Southwest and Grapevine Canyon is by far the most bang for the buck. First, its super easy to get to - less than 5 miles outside of Laughlin - paved until the last couple miles, well marked. Second, the trail is pretty much flat straight to the petroglyph site -either straight up the wash or on the edge and short (less than 1/2 mile). Third, the abundance of petroglyphs at the mouth of the canyon can't be missed. A perfect little jaunt for those interested in native peoples. For the more adventurous, continue up the canyon which is a little more challenging but again, not overly long (another 1/2 mile or so depending on brave you are). So much interesting geology going on in one place. Like I said - a lot of bang for your buck.

Short distance from Laughlin and well worth it

By sdgalMesa |

My husband and I drove up to Grapevine in the late afternoon. It was an easy hike to the petroglyphs and well worth the time. I was amazed how quiet the desert is in the early evening. The sun began setting and turned the desert gold and pink. There are more petroglyphs there than I had ever seen. It was amazing to think how old they must be. This is a very easy quarter mile hike into the desert to see the amazing art.

Grapevine Canyon is an absolute gem!

By Robert T |

Visitors to the Laughlin/Bullhead City area who enjoy nature and who might want to take a break from the craziness on the river or the chaos in the casinos might do well to put Grapevine Canyon on the must-do list. It’s easy to get to by taking Nevada Route 163 about seven miles up the big hill. (163 begins at the bridge!) On the right “Christmas Tree Pass” is clearly marked by a smallish sign. Take this dirt road a couple of miles to the cutoff and parking lot for Grapevine Canyon (on the left). It’s a short walk to the beginning of the canyon. (About 300 yards) You can walk along the lip of the wash but I always walk in the sandy wash because it is much more wide open and I can more easily watch out for snakes! I’ve been there over 20 times and I’ve never seen a snake but it doesn’t hurt to play it safe!
As soon as you get to the clearly defined entry to the canyon, stop and look around. The walls are covered with Indian drawings etched into the dark brown “shellacked” rocks. These are the petroglyphs! You’ll see drawings of big horn sheep about halfway up the west wall. It’s a fairly easy climb and not overly strenuous for the average healthy person. If you are disabled, weak, uncoordinated, or afraid of heights this climb May not be for you. There are many, many more petroglyphs around the entry to the canyon. A little climb up the right side will provide many awesome picture opportunities for you and your family. PLEASE do not try to duplicate the drawings on the walls! These have survived for hundreds of years and we want them to last for the enjoyment of future generations in their pristine state.
Adventurous explorers can follow the paths way up into the canyon. It is an awesome experience! You could spend hours exploring.
At any point just turn around and view the Colorado River Valley and the Black Mountains beyond the river in Arizona. From one or two vantage points you can even catch a glimpse of the casinos that started the whole Laughlin experience! You can see for almost 50 miles in several directions depending on where you stand.
Grapevine Canyon is an awesome sight to behold with a history of Indian culture, an amazing look at raw nature, and vistas beyond description.

ancient history worth the walk

By Colin R |

Out of Laughlin back towards Vegas signed Christmas tree pass follow dirt road(smooth enough for a mustang convertible) about a mile up the trail turn left head to the carpark the it is about 3/4 mile to see how the ancient natives decorated the canyon if you like this sort of thing well worth the trip my wife I enjoyed it

Petroglyphs

By Trek661403 |

Such a unique place. So many Petroglyphs to find and examine. Some climbs are easy to get an upclose and personal look. Very cool park and only 20 min from the casinos.

We enjoyed this

By AZboyinWI |

After spending numerous times in Laughlin, NV. and reading and hearing of this place we took the plunge and headed here. Loaded up the 3 small dogs, hiked Davis Dam and then headed here. We found the local interesting, although surprisingly busy!his at the end of March. As previously stated BRING WATER during the warmer months. Yes, you will hike about 1/4 mile or so in before you petroglyphs. Hieroglyphs are for Egyptian writing as I learned from a US Park Ranger @ Fire Valley. Please take only pictures, leave only footprints as this is a sacred area to others. Plus also, why mess up a good thing? Cool area to sit and speak to the spirits or imagine "what were they thinking?" or seeing? Nice area to get away for a few minutes!

So peaceful, so beautiful!

By Treesah |

If you happen to be in the area, please do yourself a favor and visit Grapevine Canyon, especially if you are interested in Native American history. This is a hidden gem. It's an easy hike but make sure to bring water and wear proper shoes. Weather can be brutal in the summer. I was told that spring is the best time to visit because the waterfalls are up and running and wildflowers are blooming.

Beautiful

By Azlzrd |

We were there in the spring and the weather was perfect. A short drive down a dirt road after you leave the highway is doable in a sedan if you take it slow. A bit of hike, but wow!, there are hundreds of pectographs! The rocks are awesome, the air is clean, and the sky a beautiful, blue expanse. If you love the outdoors, nature, and hiking, check it out.

Start Out Early

There are so many wonderful sights to see driving this canyon. Bring your lunch and plenty of water because there are more easy off road trips to take on this drive.

Fascinating

Nice walk to the petroglyphs - fascinating example and honestly I can’t believe they aren’t better protected.

Love the Petroglyhs

By Terry F |

Experience the land of historic native Americans. The petroglyphs are abundant. Gravel road is easy. Our luxury sedan handled it with ease. Bring water

Unbelievable!!

By pepe574 |

This is an amazing piece of history. I have been in this area once a year for the past twenty years and just realized this existed!!! Right off of NV state rd 163 and Christmas tree road. It is a gravel road but well maintained. A couple of miles down the road and there is parking with an outdoor restroom. Wear hiking shoes and bring water. From where you park it's about a quarter to a third of a mile to the canyon area. You will view numerous petroglyphs. Bring the phone for pictures!!!!!

A great place to decompress

By jamie a |

I enjoyed the hieroglyphs. to walk in the footsteps where our Native Americans once did truly interests me.

Blew me away with its stark beauty

By ARKSugarLand |

I can't express how awesome it is to have access to a such a magical place. I highly reccomend this spot on everyone's list. Just don't be stupid, as in dress correctly and carry water, keep on eye on small children, which frankly, I wouldn't bring out here.

A little different

By Lorraine N |

You start down a dirt road n about half mile down make left hand turn. Park n you go for a hike. No set trail. Loose rocks n dirt. Don’t wear good clothes. You walk in and to the right you walk up a hill n come to a dead end but I heard you come in the late afternoon you can hear the winds. You walk to the left n you can climb the rocks but the dirt is loose so be careful.

Loved It!!

By Carrie N |

Don't miss this! Very easy hike! Beautiful scenery!! Our 11 year old son was being a slacker at first. As soon as he heard the word "hike" he started complaining. When I was ready to turn back...he asked if we could keep going! We all loved it!

Serene, Peaceful and Breathtaking

By davidmP7608YO |

Grapevine Canyon is fairly easily accessed via Christmas Tree Pass. A short walk brings you to the entrance to the canyon and the beginning of many Native petroglyphs. If someone wants to see these ancient markings up close - this is the place to go. The serenity and the peacefulness of this place can't be beat. Highly recommended

Great Hike!!

By Cherie_418 |

This is the ONLY worthwhile stop in Laughlin- bring your own food and don't plan on sleeping in Laughlin- it's disgusting. But if you are driving through- and have to stop hiking this canyon is RAD! See the petroglyphs but go further into the canyon- you won't be sorry! It is beautiful. The only awesome thing about Laughlin!

Very cool!

By Meghan S |

An easy drive from Bullhead and easy walk, free parking and lots of petroglyphs! Take a bottle of water and sunscreen!

Oodles of petroglyphs

By VespagirL55 |

A sign on Route 163 north of Laughlin for Christmas Tree Pass is your window to a really stellar array of rock art. Short walk (not wheelchair friendly) from a parking area (with a bathroom) leads to a tumble of boulders and cliffs; every corner you turn reveals more art. Most of the petroglyphs are geometric, but there are some representations of people and bighorn sheep. A truly amazing quantity of rock art. Note: I got there on a dual sport motorcycle, but there were plenty of 2-wheel drive cars in the parking lot. The road is NOT paved; ask in Laughlin about road conditions before venturing out -- there is a sign advising that the road is suitable for 4x4s, so it may get dodgy at times.

Beautiful Rocky Space with Rock Art

By CarrollZahn |

Very near Laughlin Nevada with car parking and short easy hike to canyon entry. Some very high up petroglyphs with no graffiti. I walked up to the three rocks sentinel at the top of the canyon and had to use my hands in a few places. This is a very special place even if you are not into rock art. Up canyon there are narrow passages between boulders and grapevines.

This is an easy hike..

By Archie L |

We hiked grapevine canyon and were lucky enough to evesdrop on a(Ranger) tourguide's informative presentation.
Lots of petroglyphs here! This is indeed a sacred place.
10 minutes from Laughlin makes this an easy 1/2 day outing.

A very easy Hike to the Petroglyphs - a unique place to visit

By Gord H |

It is about a 5-10 minute drive from Laughlin NV to Christmas Tree Pass Road (watch for the sign on the Right side of the Highway), then 2 miles of graded sand/gravel road - an easy drive in a 2015 Camaro. The trailhead is on the left, you will see concrete block washroom building.

We researched the petroglyphs before we went, and it is noted that volunteers have done an amazing job keeping the area and the petroglyphs in pristine condition

We read a news story that back in 2011 one person was convicted of shooting about 30 petroglyphs with a paintball gun and was sentenced to 15 months federal prison and ordered to pay $10,000 restitution!!!

We did not hike further up the canyon to Moss spring. (That is approximately a 1 1/2-2 hour hike)

When we looked around at the petroglyph area, it is easy to see why this area is being preserved so well - it is a one of a kind site!

It is totally worth the hour or 2 it takes to view. Take only pictures and memories, leave only footprints.

Awesome experience

By Z5095OTcarolh |

Easy to get to but a little harder to find. Grapevine Canyon, NV, wasn't on my GPS, but Hwy163 was. Once on 163 we looked for a sign directing us to Grapevine Canyon, well, not so fast. The correct name is Christmas Tree Pass and that is on a small sign, which we missed so we had to turn around and go back. Once on the unpaved road, it's easy drive to the first parking lot. There are more sites to explore but we parked, found a riverbed, headed west 1/2 a mile to the Petroglyphs. They are located up from the riverbed and at eye level. I felt like I was in a outdoor museum viewing ancient paintings, one on one, up close and personal. There is no sign for do's and don'ts but common sense says do not climb or touch given the ancient age of these Petroglyphs.

Accessible petro-glyphs

By lyeager |

This short hike is a gem. Lovely desert and rock formations, with petroglyphs you can see either in front of you or by looking up a bit. There are signs asking you to protect them, but there is some evidence of vandalism.

Will visit again!

By JB’s |

What a fun treat! I'm so glad we found this. Some of the most beautiful petroglyphs I've ever seen! Only a 1/4 mile hike in, not ideal during hot temperatures but fun nonetheless!

Petroglyphs and more...

By TamiMomOf5 |

It was incredible to see the drawings, the ravine and animal life in the desert. I would recommend a trip to Grapevine Canyon. About 7 miles out of Laughlin. Be prepared for the unpaved road, bumpy and sandy, but worth it!

Go early, wear proper footgear

By mikethebunny |

This was an easy drive from the hotel, and a nice little hike... temperatures in April were hitting 104... take water... wear HIGH TOP BOOTS this is rattlesnake country.

Amazing

By hudsont1018 |

It was beautiful scenery and loved the burrows! We got there too late so we missed most of the stores but went in one.

Grapevine Canyon

By TMac_10 |

Great little walk into some very nice desert scenery. Fairly easy to negotiate your way through except for a few of the stiffer plants that can scratch your legs up if your wearing shorts. The last 50 yards is a tough climb up a few large rock outcrops but has a nice reward at the top with the views east of the river. There are some old petroglyphs throughout the canyon rocks. I put this hike about a 5 out of 10 up to the last 50 yards then a 7 out of 10 for challenge.

Amazing petroglyphs

By Gfearnow |

Hiking in was easy, but be careful climbing the rocks. Restrooms at parking area. Cell phone service was available for my carrier.

Fun hike.

By Erinleann S |

Easy hike for the family. Make sure to bring water, it can be hot. The trail isn’t marked but you won’t get lost if you follow the river bed. The road out to the trail head is dirt, we made it fine in our car. The petroglyphs are amazing!

Easy access to see a lot of petroglyphs

By saleenadam |

This is a short walk to view a very large amount of petroglyphs. Once you reach the petroglyphs you can continue up the canyon as far as you like and do some boulder scrambling and exploring. I paired this up with a hike of Spirit Mountain to spend half a day. Recently graded washboard like road if you come in from NV 163 can do it in any vehicle just slow. If coming in off US 95 the road requires high clearance in a few places but was not washboarded so you can go a higher speed. Restrooms at the parking area.

Beautiful & Easy Walk WORTH the visit!

By Antsy33 |

Beautiful, nice and easy walk! I've got a handicapped placard and a bad back and was able to move around comfortably. There is a bathroom on site, but it isn't the best and best used only in a pinch. Lots of different petroglyphs to look at and walk around - able to get very close to them and take lots of photos! It is ABSOLUTELY worth the 15 - 20 minute drive from downtown Laughlin as an added bonus you also drive along Christmas Tree Pass - the dirt road itself is better than a lot of other private roads we've been on so it was a nice ride out to the site as well. We went during March 2023 so we didn't encounter snakes, other animals as it had been raining the days before and was cold outside. Doing off the path kind of weird little hikes has been our couples adventure and I was really happy we did this one!

Interesting 5000 year old petroglyphs!

By U6581QPkathyc |

This short, easy hike leads to some 5000 year old petroglyphs, that are easy to access, see and admire. A bit further into the canyon adds some dramatic scenery to the trip. Well worth the short drive from Laughlin.

Ancient communication and easy access

By avidhiker2 |

Petroglyphs of Native Americans are just steps away from the parking lot. The vanish over the years have left them like a billboard, telling the modern day traveler of their life.

Wonderful hike. We walked in for 1.5 hours with many stops to enjoy the pertroglyphs and canyon rock formations

By Hedoff |

Suggest wearing long pants and gloves as there is some bushwacking and rock crawling involved if you want to keep going around "that next bend"

Nice Hike Lots of Drawings

By robert w |

The hike was 1/3 mile in. The drawings were out of this world. This is a must for kids to experience. Well worth the trip.

petroglyphs are worth the walk

By Ken L |

The petroglyphs are worth the short .25 mile walk. You can walk right up to them and see them.
The directions are wrong on many sites. Here is the correct ones.
Head west on Highway 163 from Laughlin. Keep an eye out for Christmas Tree Pass Road and make a right. Drive straight about 1.5 miles on this dirt road, then make a left when you see the sign for the canyon. There is a small dirt parking lot. The trail starts at the end of the parking lot.
The trail is level dirt ground up to the end. You can see many petroglyphs from there on go down in the wash to see the rest. Make sure you go up the hill on the other side of the wash as there are many petroglyphs there.

Worth the trip

By gambler g |

Based on other reviews we checked this out on our last trip. There is a short hike to numerous petroglyphs. There are many to see, looks like some are probably graffiti. There is not a marked trail and the wash area was a smoother walk than the upper area. It was interesting and I'm glad we stopped.

See Indian Petroglyphs for Free

It's a dirt road but any car drive there no problem. Once you park you then walk a short trail to the petroglyphs. If you want you can hike alot farther back thru the canyon. It

Piece of history

By Dreamer569965 |

Dirt road but only a couple of miles off the highway. We graded road for any type of vehicle, except a very low clearance. Parking area is about 1/4 mile from the petroglyphs, but the walk is pretty easy. Stay up on the bank of the wash for easier going.

Loved the interesting hieroglyphics and rock formations.

By Denise B |

A great place to visit and learn a lot about ancient times. Nice walking pathways through the canyon let you see different wildlife and plants.

Quick Easy Trip

By mnpossum |

Spend as little or as much time as you want. Make it as easy or as hard of a hike as you want. Do not need to be experienced hikers. As long as you are able to walk 1/2 mile in pea gravel type surface, you can handle this walk to see the petroglyphs. Forget your flip flops but wear shoes that keep sand and rocks out and you will be fine.

Easy hike to petroglyphs

By Mark L |

Finally decided to do this hike since it's too hot in summer. Easy dirt road to trailhead. Hike to petroglyphs is flat. Hike continues into canyon, but gets more difficult with boulder hopping. Great scenery. Excellent petroglyphs.

Great Indian Petroglyphs

By T S |

Very interesting place. Many Petroglyphs (some of which have partially collapsed over the past few decades). Dirt road that is generally well maintained to parking area then a 1/4 walk from parking area to main Grapevine area. (Primative outhouses are available at the parking area). At the start of the canyon, there are many petroglyphs. Further up the canyon (which gets challenging the you go up it), there is often a spring flowing (and the wild grape vines that gives the canyon its name). At certain times of the year the water even flows out into the flat desert sand area and disappears into the sand. NOTE: Instead of turning off the dirt road at the Grapevine parking area, you can go further down the dirt road for a couple of miles. The road then makes a 90 degree left turn up into Christmas tree pass. BUT at the turn, there is a small parking area off to the left side of the road. If you follow that trail, you come to a stream that has water flowing more often during the year than at Grapevine Canyon (but no petroglyphs at the smaller, wider canyon).

SHORT WALK

Nice walk to see this and hike up as far as you like lots to see nice road ,,, 4x4 not needed,,,take water..if it is hot

What a great place for a short and challenge hike. It is only 75 miles from Las Vegas and 12 miles from Laughlin. Be sure to bring a plenty of water and food. Dogs are welcome.

A beautiful morning drive/hike

By Chuck B |

My wife and I visited here on 10/17/16 with our dog. Enter via road to Christmas Tree Pass, go NW about 2 miles and turn into Grapevine Canyon parking area. Short hike into a small canyon with lots of petroglyphs on both sides of the dry wash. We've been traveling 9 yrs now and have never seen this many petroglyphs in one place - don't miss this experience. I'm handicapped with Parkinsons but with aid of walking sticks was able to participate. Restroom on site. You do not need a 4WD vehicle. Early morning is better due to heat.

We found it!!

By Marsha K |

We ventured out looking for this canyon a week ago but our maps app could not get us to the right location. After talking to a number of people we were able to get to the right place. Heading to Laughlin get off on Christmas tree pass & then follow on the dirt path to the canyon area. Good parking & restrooms before venturing out. Hike is about one quarter of A mile one way. Sandy path & some rock climbing. Petroglyphs are very easy to see & in many directions. We had a little waterfall with cold running water that just stopped after a bit & soaked into the ground. The grandkids loved the hike & would have adventured farther if we had let them. A hidden treasure for anyone who isn't afraid of a little walking & rock climbing!!

This hike was excellent. Easy in and out. The scenery was spectacular and allowed me so many photo opportunities. I’ve hiked this many times and it never gets old or boring.

Gorgeous Desert Views and Look Back in Time

By catomd |

After a short drive down a dirt road it is about a 10 minute walk down a sandy path to see the petroglyphs. Be prepared to walk in the sand. Avoid the cactus! If you stray from the path you are likely to step on some very sharp cactus that pierce through your shoes. The views of the desert are breath taking. The petroglyphs are very easy to see and are quite stunning.

A desert oasis

By Tony B |

Truly a desert oasis in the middle of the desert. Travel carefully to get there. The washboard effect will make you have an accident if you go too fast. Someone is a Pathfinder got too cocky on the washboards and flipped over when we ere there once. Easy! Drive slowly. Unless you are from the area you DO NOT know how to drive on this terrain!

Peace and Petroglyphs

By Adrienne H |

A short 7 mile drive from Laughlin, there is a lovely spot called Grapevine Canyon. You can pick up a map at the Visitor's Center. From the highway, a 2 mile drive down a dirt road, is easily handled in a regular car, and definitely worth the trip. Once you park in the convenient lot, a short and easy quarter mile walk leads you to some really stounding petroglyphs, very well preserved and interesting and is easily accessible. Stand still, and listen, and after all the bells and whistles of Laughlin's Casinos, the complete and enveloping silence is a treat. Easy walk for children and seniors, as well as perfectly acceptable facilities on site make this a nice family side trip.

Great petroglyphs and Good Walking

By SusieRussell |

It may be getting a little hot to go to this area now near Laughlin, AZ, as it gets VERY hot there. We 4 wheel drove in the area in a truck. Got out and walked and hiked around, in and over rocks, etc. It was really neat. Very interesting. The petroglyphs are amazing. Bring your camera, water and a hat. A little picnic would be nice too.
It's well worth the trip.

Lizzards and Petroglyphs

By shaytravels |

This is a neat little trail. It can be found by going down Casino Dr and turning left on NV 163. It is about 6 miles and will be on the left. It is a little dirt road that can be easy to miss called Christmas Tree Pass. It is an ok road I had no trouble getting my Corolla in there. The petroglyphs are about a mile down on easy trail. Bathrooms are located at the trail head. Look for lizzards and other animals while you hike, but go early as it gets hot!

Best petroglyphs I've seen

By blehnert |

I am not a petroglyph expert, but they were amazing. I'm told that if you walk far enough back in the canyon there are pools of water. I'll do that the next tie around.

Interesting

By BBQJIM |

The Petroglyphs are up close enough to touch, but, don't touch them. It is a nice pretty level walk of about 1/3 mile from the parking area. Nice restrooms also. Best to go in the Morning before it gets too hot.

Short walk to see the petroglyphs

By 3anja3 |

You do need to travel a dirt road right off the highway in order to get there but it's not too bad, a little bit bumpy but not bad! The petroglyphs are not far after the descriptions sign but you will have to walk on a gravel path. The petroglyphs on the right you can get pretty close to without climbing up the rocks and there is a path. The petroglyphs on the left you will have to climb to get a close look at. We wanted to get as close to the top of the area as possible and it was difficult I thought for 2 reasons, one the gravel path on the rocks is hard to grip and two there wasn't a clear path to follow. But we did make it to the top of a rock formation and we were rewarded with a great view of the area!

cool petroglyphs

By liz l |

this is an amazing spot. just tons of petroglyphs. follow up the canyon until you get to the springs and you will see why they call it grapvine canyon. the road is a little rough, just go slow.

Great petroglyphs!

By Bellanca |

Possibly the greatest collection of petroglyphs in one place ever! Easy walk to the glyphs and plenty of hiking if you get the urge. Good graded sandy road in to the area. Who knew? My wife loved the place even more than I did! Mountains here are crazy wild.
