Wonderful tasting

By TribTraveler |

We had a wonderful tasting at GunBun. The property is absolutely beautiful. The people are very nice.

Our tasting was fantastic thanks to Nancy. She gave us great information on the wine and the history of the winery and family. Thank you Nancy!

Another great stop on our bike tour

By montonij |

Beautiful!

By JNLLZ |

My wife and I are not big wine people and we do not pretend to know a lot but we did enjoy the wine tasting at Gundlach Bundschu! It’s a beautiful tasting room with an even more beautiful patio with views! We had a great time and really enjoyed the atmosphere!

Interesting winery

By IlyaNJ |

Gundlach Bundschu is the second oldest winery in California, an interesting winery with its own artistic take on labeling wines. There is a park that can be hiked for elevated views over the vineyards and a small lake. The winery tour in an off-road vehicle is offered once a day, which did not fit into our itinerary.

A fun, slightly whimsical winery tour

By Kenneth K |

We had been recommended to Gundlach Bundschu by friends who had grown up in Sonoma and we were happy we took their advice. The overall center of the winery is very pleasant, with well-landscaped areas around the tasting center and cellar. But the tour was the star attraction - a ride on a "Pinzgauer" - sort of a Swiss army truck - up into the vineyards for tasting and education. The tour guide was Rob, one of the family that runs the vineyard and his knowledge of the winery's varied history (both the personalities and the viticultural aspects) was delivered in a clear, occasionally quirky and humorous way. And we found the 5 different wines we tasted to be excellent (enhanced by being up and among the actual vineyards). A great addition to our Sonoma weekend.

Disappointing Visit

By nebguest |

We were a bit disappointed by our visit to the winery. When we arrived, we were greeted in a rather unwelcome fashion because they were full for tastings for the day. I get that they were full but how it was handled was poor. We did take the opportunity to grab a glass of wine at the Donkey Bar and spend some time on the patio and that was lovely. Seemed like it would be a great place to have a picnic lunch.

Went on a Whim/Left Happy

By Phyllis L |

Stopped in on a whim for the basic tasting. Wish we would have had time for their various tours and tastings. The grounds are very nice and it was easy to get to. Our tasting guru, SS, was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving us re-tastes to help in the decision-making and informing us of artwork on the labels. We were impressed with many of the releases, especially the Gewurztraminer and the Vintage Reserve. The tasting price was reasonable and was waived when we made a purchase and joined the club. Can't wait for our wine to arrive in September.

Favorite winery in CA

By Dotty |

Being Sonoma’s oldest family owned winery, this place is charged with delicious wines and hospitality

Great tour and wines

By Dan P |

We took the 90 minute tour that was led by Mac who was extremely knowledgeable about the winery, wines and life in general. She was very entertaining and engaging.

I felt we really learned about wine making and grape growing, it was one of the best tours we experienced in the Napa/Sonoma area.

They have a nice variety of reds and a few good whites. We enjoyed many of the reds which we prefer and each grape tasted what I expected from the grape.

The wines are more reasonably priced than most of the vineyards we visited and we liked all the wines we tasted.

If you do the 90 minute tour, ask for Mac who was a great tour guide.

Gorgeous with great wine!

By lauralcook12 |

Loved Gun Bun winery - one of the first places we stopped. Lovely views! Karen took great care of us.

Great experience

By Deborah F |

Spent the day in and around Sonoma and went here based on a recommendation in the San Francisco chronicle. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The wine tasting was reasonably priced and we were fortunate to have Carol, who was pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. Great experience and the 2014 Cabernet was so good, I bought one to bring home as I didn’t want to take the chance of not being able to find it in my local wine store.

Excellent Afternoon

By NorthStar569360 |

Our table was ready for us when we arrived. It was an excellent experience. The afternoon breeze, the wine, the snacks, and the service all top-notch.

Second Oldest Winery In Sonoma

By 1000islandsdude |

Beautiful vistas and property. Old stone buildings and friendly knowledgeable staff that stems back 6 generations. Our whole crew was welcomed here for great tastings of estate wines. Definitely worth the drive if only for the views and countryside. The wine is a total plus!!!!

We loved everything about this winery!!

By Sonia C |

We loved everything about this winery!! It's wonderful the same family has been producing wine here for 6 generations. Great experience!

Friendly, fun-loving, family-run winery

By _jad_44la |

The Bundschu family have been running this winery since 1858. Not a typo, that's over 150 years. If you are fortunate enough to meet the family they are a great bunch. On our last trip (walking out with a case of wine) we saw Towle Bundshu and one of the winemakers (Keith Emerson) on the patio. Great to reconnect with them! We always enjoy visiting with the Bundschu family and winemakers Keith and Anne Dempsey, they are a super fun loving family, starting with the patriarch Jim. And if you get a chance to go on a tour, do it! Their property is fantastic.

Take a Pinz Spinz!

By Toby G |

We are not very knowledgeable about wines. Doing a regular wine tasting seemed like a waste of time for us. We saw that Gundlach Bundschu offered something called a Pinz Spinz. This is a winery tour in something called a pinzgauer, an Austrian army vehicle. A guide drove us out into the vineyard where we were served wine and cheese in a little covered pavilion of sorts. We were told the history of the vineyard, given information about winemaking in general and the opportunity to ask all kinds of wine related questions. We also walked through the wine cave where the wine is fermented. Great way to learn about wine.

fantastic

By d h |

The folks giving the wine tasting with their knowledge is fantastic. I'm glad you are doing winetasting in the members venue.

Just an overall great place with great wines!

By Lenz |

In the 30 years we have been going to Sonoma Valley, this is our favorite winery, and our favorite wines.
We are huge red wine fans, and their reds do not disappoint.
This last visit we took the Pinzgauer (say that 3 times fast!) tour, with a gracious and informative host. We travelled around the property, learned the history, had delicious foods and fabulous wines. We red drinkers were blown away by the Chardonnay!

Great experience and scenery

By Kathleen B |

A very relaxing setting. Small plates to go along the tasting. A very pleasant experience. Children are welcome.

Winery Trifecta!

By Pam M |

This winery offers the trifecta of wine-tasting experiences: a beautiful spot, great wines, and a friendly cool vibe. I love the variety of wines and enjoying the hospitality of a family-owned historic winery. Make this stop in Sonoma!

Must Visit in Sonoma!

By Aimmee Xenakis |

Our favorite winery in Sonoma and the only wine club we’ve maintained over the years. Love the vibe and the people!

Great Winery with History

By A2JetSet |

Got in before the tour groups arrived. The tasting room was empty so the staff only had us to focus on. Great staff! Full of knowledge of the winery and all the wines. The grounds are beautiful as well. Worth a stop.

Very dissapionted

By Chris H |

The wines were not of the quality as I have purchased in the past and our tasting hostess was not pleasant at all. A quirky atmosphere that is fun helped make the trip there OK but I will not return.

Fun

By Stephen F |

This was a fun tasting. Energetic vibe and fun wines. We purchased several bottles and have encouraged friends to visit.

One of the finest!

By Tony S |

One of my absolute FAVE wineries! Beautiful estate, great wines, beautiful history, and lovely staff. The winery offers the range from Gewürztraminer to Cabernet Sauvignon, and everything in between. There’s a concert series, events, and the best merch anywhere.

Plus where else can you see Metallica?!

Visit this establishment now!

Second time there

By Mevette |

Its was my second time there and It was a let down.. We decided to sit on the patio even tho it was a little windy but we just couldnt pass up the view. The View was gorgeous. The kid they had serving water and clearly tables walked around like he was sleepwalking.. we sat there waiting for someone to start our tasting and that took more than 20 mins (there were maybe 9 other ppl outside so not busy) and the wines weren't that great. The young lady who did help us was friendly.. We were told we could see the cave so after our tasting we walked on in only to be told we could just walk in without a staff member.. BUT since we were already half way in he showed us around a little and let us walk out on our own.. I wont be back unless we are just taking pictures.

Rhinefarm tasting as a solo visitor

By Ann B |

I did the Rhinefarm tasting alone on a rainy afternoon. It was so cozy and welcoming! The tasting room is a pretty space, the individual tables were spaced for privacy but close enough to enjoy the company. The staff was competent and the timing perfect. They gave basic information and when I showed interest, were delighted to share more details.

Cozy setting for wine tasting

By Joyful_couple2013 |

Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Setting was relaxed with a nice cool breeze. Good wines and rich family history of winemaking. Worth a stop.

Fantastic experience

By Spitzventure |

We had a tour package that we took a jeep ride out into different sections of the winery and would stop at certain locations to have a glass of wine. It was pretty neat, so we would drive out to a crop hear the story behind those grapes then have a glass of wine right out in the field. The wine cave was really cool and our tour guide was a lot of fun.

Awesome tour!

By ChanimalKingdom |

We took the vineyard excursion tour and it was great. Rob, our tour guide, drove us through the vineyard in their 1970s Pinzgauer and taught about the vineyard and how they grow their grapes. The tour was fun, informative, and the tour guide was great. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and there was never any real pressure to purchase that you find in some of the other vineyards. Great place to visit in Sonoma. Oh yea, the wine is awesome!

Perfect Saturday

By Cocosmom10018 |

Wow... I was in awe of the view and the events that were happening especially the Traveling Spectator Troupe. The wines were delectable at a great price point. We did the tour including the cave and we couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide, Cat! Cat was fu&3$;ing AMAZING! I loved her banter, quick wit and extreme knowledge of the wines and history of the property. Highly recommend!

Service could be better

By Orange11674 |

Average! We stopped in here on our bike tour. Very nice setting. The service was poor. Not unhelpful, but not helpful either. Lots of time between tasting. The wine was not comparable to other stops along the way. Lovely setting.

Last stop for the day

By Chris |

Nice surroundings and the wine was ok nothing fantastic!! Found them too soft for my palate. It was pleasant sitting outside on a beautiful day sipping wine and snacking

Great visit!

By Arkies10 |

This is a beautiful property, especially from their terrace! They happened to be very busy inside the day we were there as it had been raining and they had to move their tastings from the terrace inside, but we were promptly greeted and they made a spot for us. Very nice staff made us feel welcome and we enjoyed the wines....especially the pinot noir. It's always been one of my favorites!

Great winery

By Melchior O |

Nice seating area by a little pond. Great tasting with outside seating or inside too.
Friendly and nice staff

classy

By WTH9 |

very classic tasting. chose 5 different reds and sampled them at the bar with a sommelier. nice atmosphere

Highly recommend Pinz Excursion!

By mitzi d |

We chose the Pinz Excursion at the Gundlach Bundschu Winery and it was well-worth it! We tasted 5 delectable wines, had an amazing charcuterie plate and learned so much about the history of the winery. The tour of the vineyards was wonderful and our guide, John was excellent. We had an amazing time and learned so much about how this winery came to fruition and about the process. I highly recommend this intimate tour and this winery. One of the family-wend wineries still operating! The wines were all delicious!

Very cool location

By Robert N |

Very nice terrace shaded by olive trees and overlooking the pond.
Great service and a really nice selection of wines, including a delicious tempranillo. Nice snacks for sale to complement the wines.
One of the few places we went that had a good selection of merchandise and the quality looked really good.
Would love to come back here and chill out with a bottle of G&B and a picnic.

Relaxed Setting with Amazing Wine

By Suman T |

We loved our visit to Gundlach Bundschu Winery so much that we joined the wine club. The wine delicious (especially the unique La Cuadrilla Red Blend), the staff are friendly, and the grounds are gorgeous. It's the perfect place to spend time over good wine and food with friends and family. It's also pet friendly which was perfect for us!

A great big "WOW!"

By Rick E |

This was our second time at gb. We returned after remembering 6 years ago how much we enjoyed this place. This time, We did the Pintgauer tour with Rob Gundlach (great, great, great grandson of the man who started this winery). He was great. Very knowledgeable, personable and kind. We loved the wines so much, we joined their wine club (the only one we joined and we went to 10+ wineries/tasting rooms). Do yourself a favor and visit this place. You'll be glad you did.

Great picnic spot

By jaykE7478KI |

Packed our lunch & purchased a bottle of rosé. Waiter at the outdoor Donkey bar was very helpful; have us four glasses & free water. Numerous picnic tables to choose from. Beautiful views of the pond and vineyard. Great experience. No pressure to purchase or subscribe.

Best of the cycling tour

By fairycake73 |

A less formulaic education than the other venues we visited and some unusual varietals with our host pouring a dry Gewürztraminer and Tempranillo. Best of the day being the straight Merlot. We enjoyed an impromptu picnic picking up bread, meat and cheese from the tasting room.

A must do winery in Sonoma!

By Mjam4 |

Gun Bun is a must do when in Sonoma! The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, with picnic tables scattered throughout, a scenic lake, and of course, the vineyard. They sell a few charcuterie (assorted meats, cheeses, and crackers) items as well, and will provide you with a cutting board and knife if you ask! The wines are delicious and the tasting offers multiple varietals. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel so welcome. They are also dog friendly!

Scenic small winery

By Travelgurl1956 |

This was the most comfortable of all the wineries we visited, but probably the least connected one to our tastes in wine. The grounds were beautiful and the tour options were enticing, just not fitting with our day's schedule. Our server seemed to be drinking about as much wine as we were, with his need to open new bottles and sample each one for quality control! A good overall visit!

Fun Vineyard Jeep Tour

By welovebandbs |

We had the best experience of our visit to Sonoma County when we signed up for the Vineyard Excursion tour at Gunlach Bunschu Winery. Their jeep/bus tour, led by Rob, one of the family members, was fascinating, informative, fun, and included six tastings along the way. As we explored the hills and back roads of this historic winery, we learned about the family, their wines, and their growing techniques. Highly recommended!

Basically ignored in the tasting room

By Scott L |

I really like GunBun's cab, which is really their only wine that I can find locally, so we decided to make this our final stop in Sonoma. Located near downtown Sonoma, it's easy to reach and the tasting room is very attractive both inside and out.

Upon entering, there are two tasting bars. We approached the one to the left only to be me with "This bar is only for club members". No "would you like to join" or "are you interested in the club?" - just directed to the other bar.

At this point, my sister and brother-in-law walked out, but my wife and I found a spot at the main bar. We were greeted within a couple of minutes, asked what we were interested in and started with the 2014 Gewurz. More than 5 minutes later, we were still waiting to be asked if we'd liked it or if we were ready for our next glass, but our hostess, who had been serving another group when we arrived, finished ringing up their purchase and then greeted another group and started serving them. After waiting a few more minutes, we chose to leave. Our hostess looked up when we were about halfway to the door, and then returned to the other group without so much as a gesture.
All-in-all, a very disappointing experience.

Pretty grounds but skimpy pours

By EmptyNesters6257 |

Out of all of our tastings, from $10. on up this one was our least favorite. It’s a beautiful setting but the young man we had pouring gave little or no information on the winery or wines. The pours were little more than a mouthful and $20 pp for 5 tastings that they choose. With tax and a gratuity charge on the bill it was $47.25 per couple. Other wineries gave amazing walking tours, embarking info on the history of the family’s and vineyards and charged $10/$15. No gratuity added on. Check out Jacuzzi for a $10. Tasting with olive oils and even a chocolate wine shot! Or Cline or Ledson for a historical visit and much more generous pours with friendly staff!

Awesome history

By r23ock |

The wine was great but we were regaled with the stories associated with the founding of the vineyard and the ups and downs of the roughly 160 year history. Fascinating. Beautiful spot. Delicious wines. Joined their Bacchus club to keep receiving future vintages. Highly recommend a visit but make a reservation first.

Awesome

By Faye J |

Lovely Sunday morning sitting outside looking at the lake drinking wine that was really good love the Pinot

Disappointing

By Hockeylover59 |

We are wine club members at many of the beautiful wineries in Napa and Sonoma and I had looked forward to this visit. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed.. It was extremely crowded and there was nothing intimate about this tasting. And the wines unfortunately we're actually less than mediocre. And there was no opportunity to try anything other than the current vintages . This will likely not be a repeat performance for us unfortunately I am sad to say

Love this place.

By Steve R |

This is one of those places you've never heard of, that pleasantly surprises you.

I went there just because I liked the name but what I found was an assortment of very good wines.

It's one of those wineries that the whites are really good, the reds are really good and a couple of them are....wow....that was tasty.

Nice tasting room with funky old stuff and the setting is pretty with a pond. I wouldn't chose it to picnic but first or last in the morning is perfect as it's only about 5 minutes from Sonoma Square.

Kind of a tricky place to find but way worth it.

Very Nice Tour

By skm19612015 |

We had a very nice tour of the wine caves. Our guide, Cat, was very knowledgeable and friendly, albeit a bit opinionated....in a good way! I learned quite a bit and the wines were excellent. Definitely recommend.

Great Atmosphere, Average Wine

By rechapotamus |

This vineyard sits on very pretty grounds and has a great patio overlooking a pond for tastings. However, the wine itself is very average. These were also the tiniest pours that we have had at a tasting in Sonoma/Napa. Staff was friendly. This place felt much more touristy than every other vineyard that we visited.

Taste of Germany in Sonoma,California.

By JChandrasekera |

One hour plus guided tour by a true professional Rob J.Bundschu.
It was a detailed informative tour thru the long wine cellar build inside a tunnel,
onto the plantation area. With man made lakes with Geese.
The winery was a creation by a German immigrant way back in the 18th centuary..
Immaculate, well maintained wine cellar dispayed German efficiency.
Lush green plantaion in the back drop of dusty mountains was indeed a picturesque.
Tour participants were served with fine wine from the winery.
It was indeed a pleasant afternoon in a beautiful location.

Stunning grounds

By Jpetrag2 |

This was our first stop on our self guided wine tours. Beautiful grounds. The staff was awesome. Explained the wines and made recommendations. We took our wine and walked all over the property. Very nice day here!

One of my favorites

By Wendy S |

I have watched this winery grow over the last 15 years and this visit was the best! They have decided to go for quality rather than quantity and it certainly shows in their wines and the total experience of the visit. We did the Pinz tour this time..a Swiss army truck ... you get to drive around the vineyard looking at the vines and the terrain, stopping to drink wines along the way..well worth the money.

Cave Tour & Tasting.

By 1Traveler44 |

On 09/20/23, we went to Gundlach Bunschu on a lark. We had visited another winery earlier and heard about the cave tour. We decided to go. John, our tour guide and wine steward was excellent. He was informative, knowledgeable, funny and friendly. He knew the history of the winery and all the players in it's history by heart and as if he had known the information his whole life. It was impressive. The cave tour was filled with stories of how the winery came to be, wine to taste and grapes to be eaten off the vine. An experience in itself. At the end of the tour, you sample several wines produced at the winery and there is a very low key invitation to join their wine club. This experience was highly enjoyable and I'd highly recommend it.

A Taste of History

By napasyrah |

Just a 5 minute drive from Sonoma, Gundlach-Bundschu Winery will whisk you back in time to a pre-prohibition era. The tasting room is adorned with black and white photos of family and founders, while a display shows labels as they evolved over time. The staff is laid back, attentive, and super friendly. Our host was the best, very knowledgeable and eager to tell stories. And, of course, the wines are delicious! The grounds are beautiful, buy some charcuterie and local cheeses and soak it all in. Such a beautiful spot and great experience.

Best wine tour we've ever done!

By Jason C |

My girlfriend and I did the Pinzgauer tour and we could not have asked for a better experience. Rob was a warm and welcoming host, who was knowledgeable and made our whole group feel right at home. The vineyard is beautiful, the wine was superb and the Pinzgauer is a really unique way to get around the vineyard. We would recommend GunBun to anyone and hope to come back soon!

Fun times!

By aaron k |

Always a fantastic time at Gun Bun Winery. Tasty wines, lovely bites, and super friendly folks who run the place. Can't wait til next time!

Botique Vineyard, Friendly, GREAT wines

By stodd39 |

This is one of my favorites in Napa/Sonoma. The staff at Gundlach Bundschu are very friendly, knowledgeable and this winery is typically not overcrowded, even on weekends. Great spot to bring a picnic basket and enjoy lunch out on the patio. There are many more scenic locations like Gloria Ferrer, but for overall friendliness, knowledge and the reason I go to a winery, GREAT WINES, then this is in my top 5 of Napa/Sonoma.

Pinz tour

By Jeffrey A H |

The Pinz tour through the vineyard was a great experience and the tasting was a real treat.GunBun is always a great visit and this tour was great

My favorite

By Shawn E |

Gundlach Bunschu is my favorite winery for the past 15 years. Their tours are the most fun and you will learn a lot about wine and wine making. I live in Texas and have participated in their wine club since leaving California. I visited last weekend and fell in love all over again! Don't miss this winery or tour!

Every time is a little different but always fun

By AlwaysOnTheGo53 |

I've actually been to this winery a couple of times wth friends. This last time was for a friends birthday and we had a private tasting in their "bungalow," which was actually a small house. It was a great set up (cheese plates, 4 tastings, and a record player all for our group). The wine is also delicious!

Unique Tour and Great Wine

By KathiOH1 |

Our group of 4 couples booked several special tours throughout Napa for our 25th wedding anniversary. The Gundlach Bundschu Jeep tour with Maggie was one of our favorites because the jeep is awesome AND we drank wine next to the actual grapes. We ended with a cave tasting and bought tons of wine with no regrets.

Most special about the tour was Maggie's stories of the family. She made us feel the appreciation for the family roots and hard work that wrap around every vineyard.

Tips:
Wear a hat to block the sun (you're out of the jeep a lot).
No need to bring water because it's provided.
Use the nice restrooms up the hill, not the port-o-potty close to the shop.

Beautiful property, great wine cave tour, delicious wines

By AldebaranFlorida |

We visited the Gundlach Bundschu Winery before the horrible fires in Sonoma and Napa Valleys this fall and we were relieved to find out they survived with little damage. What a beautiful property! We took the cave tour and found it extremely informative and interesting. Our tour guide (her name was Cat or Kat) was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Of course, we had wine tastings as well and their wines are excellent; we bought several bottles. Overall, a great experience. Don't miss this one when visiting Sonoma Valley.

GunBun Rhinefarm experience makes for a GREAT day!

By cvrem |

The Rhinefarm wine experience... it's always such a lovely way to spend an afternoon; outdoors, slight breeze, tasting delicious wines. I love the unstuffy, laid-back vibe here and the great service.

Great day out

By jovant379 |

This was our first time there; visiting from out of town. The grounds were beautiful and was a great backdrop for wine tasting. The wine was delicious. What made the experience really enjoyable was our host Tucker. He was super engaging and shared great knowledge of the vineyard and the wines we were tasting. Our favorite part of wine tasting is learning about the process and he shared so much information.

Worth a stop!

By Julie F |

Delicious wine. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Picnic areas. Bike racks. And, they waived our tasting fees, because we purchased wine to be shipped home.

Book a reservation ahead of time

By Kelly B |

I came in with my friends on our day off yesterday, no reservations just on a whim. They were fully booked for tastings which was a bit of a disappointment, but Shannon inside the shop let us do a mini tasting outside with her. She made our experience wonderful and really made us feel welcome and at home. The wine was so delicious that I ended up joining their wine club.

We will definitely be back…with a reservation next time.

Spring celebration at Gun-Bun

By Rod Z |

The wine tasting was excellent. We were even offered a sample of a couple of wines not on the tasting list. Several accoutrements were offered. We chose the charcuterie board which went very well with our wines.

A throwback, in a good way

By Sheila E |

First trip to Sonoma was around 1987, have seen lots of changes, napa wineries have gone glitzy and sonoma wineries are now what napa was like 20 years ago. But GB keeps it's rustic roots, love the contrast. Also love the wed price points on their wines, there is something for everyone,

Great Start to our Wine Country Visit

By Packlady2015 |

My husband and I went for a quick couple of (week)days to Sonoma County. Gunbun was our first stop. We called ahead for reservations only to learn they only have one venue open and no reservations required early in the week. Not sure what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised. The tastings were ample and much more reasonable in cost than Napa, and the wines were wonderful. It was a hot morning but the tasting room was cool and surrounded by a shaded outdoor patio. The server was quite the personality which enhanced our overall experience. Would highly recommend Gundlach Bundschu if you're looking for reasonably-priced wines in a relaxed, unpretentious setting.

Oldest family owned winery in Sonoma

By Crystal H |

Great welcome into the 1922 home. Charming inside and out. Over three hundred acres with three AVAs for a variety wines. Olive, peach, and pomegranate also on the property. We joined the wine club; they also sell everything online. You can order their Chardonnay on American Airlines. Affordable.

Tour and Tasting was a Trip Highlight

By Renee B |

We did the 2-hour tour with tasting - can't give high enough praise! We loved all the wines (generous pours), and the guide was really down-to-earth but SO knowledgeable. Loved being in the cave, hearing the history of this historic vineyard, and seeing the stunning views. Bought 2 bottles and our friends also bought 2 bottles. We would have joined their club if we weren't from the East Coast but this would be a regular spot for us otherwise! Did 6 vineyard tastings and this was a highlight! Worth the extra money!

Great wines and a beautiful sitting!

By xnycop |

One of the most idyllic settings of any winery. Rolling hills, vineyards and antique structures. The wine is great, too!

We were not looking for typical Sonoma valley

By Monica S |

Where do we get what we were looking for, although the grapes are grown right there there was just something very special about his winery. The wine was remarkable we enjoyed everyone we tried. The grounds were spectacular including the outdoor seating and even the outdoor movie theater. We got a quick tour of the wine storage facility, which was quite fascinating. We didn't get to see the donkeys they were off that day so that was a bummer but everything else did not disappoint. Our only regret was that we did not sign up for the subscription wine club, but we will have to remedy that soon

The Pinzgauer Tour is the best!

By charm_of_finches |

Booked a Pinzagauer Tour and had the best time. Our guide was awesome and made it so much fun. We drove around the vineyards stopping occasionally to sample various wines and learn about the history of the land and family. The picnic spot near the end is gorgeous. I was so impressed with all the wines we tasted, the knowledge of the tour guide, and how thoughtfully orchestrated the tour itself was. I highly recommend visiting and doing this tour!

Very nice cave tour

By DSBenson |

Cave tour was informative and fun. Cool cave, lovely grounds.

The wine was okay, except the final premiere bottle, which was excellent.

Very enjoyable stop. Relaxing to walk around after.

Sonoma Saturday

By Brett F |

Every time I visit GunBun I leave happy. They have the perfect outdoor vibe and the mountain cuvee alone is worth becoming a member for (the cheese board is pretty spectacular too). I also love how after the tasting experience ends you can still explore the beautiful property.

Love Gun Bun!

By Tina |

We love Gunlach Bundschu, it's the perfect place to relax, enjoy wine, nature, and great company. We always bring friends and family here to enjoy tastings and take in the beautiful surroundings. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. We especially love it when our pup join us!

The tasting room is comfy, quiet and just the perfect touch of decadent indulgence!!

By Beth Anne R |

The tasting room is comfy, quiet with a delightful touch of old world decadence meets modern whimsy!! I love a tasting experience where I learn something but they don’t take themselves so seriously that you can’t just enjoy yourself and the delicious wines. I came on a brisk rainy day and left with a sunny smile! This is a wonderful way to spend a few hours that isn’t like every other wine country experience. Thank you!

Perfection

By Shelley S |

With all the happenings in our world, it was a wonderful delight to visit this amazing winery. All safety measures were in place and as we arrived for our reservation and led in, our greeter waved us in with a balloon wand. There were several
Outdoor locations to choose from on their website. Block 19 where we sat overlooked one of the vineyards and I loved our selection. There was a food truck serving tacos that were wonderful with great portions but there was also snacks (cheese etc) that could be purchased from the winery. Service was wonderful. The view incredible and the experience brought joy to our tired spirits. There was even a tall swing in one of the trees. This was perfection.

Avoid

By nursemurphy13 |

This place was highly recommended by other wineries. A big disappointment. We didn't like any wines, the place appears run down. We read mixed reviews before making the trip but decided to be adventurous. You kiss a lot of frogs and this was a BIG frog!

Great wine but very pricey

By Cruzer20 |

My wife and I visited Gundlach Bundschu Winery yesterday. Overall, we had a very nice visit.

Positives of G.B.:
1. Very nice setting with beautiful views
2. Extremely friendly and attentive staff
3. Fabulous wines.

I particularly liked their Merlot (and I'm not a Merlot lover) and their Tempranillo. Outstanding wines at a fair price for the quality.

Negatives:

1. Overall price. We bought one bottle of Tempranillo ($40) and had two tastings. Total bill...$100. No credit for a tasting even though we purchased a bottle. We brought our own picnic lunch so we didn't need to order food and it was still $100. Pretty steep price for two tastings.

Best winery to go to.

By Jeffrey S |

First time in wine country for my wife and I. A good friend had introduced me to Gundlach Bundschu some 15 years ago when he and his wife first visited. Such a great experience and learned so much of the history and the wine. Great wine and vibe. Now a member of the wine club. Can’t wait to go back.

Great wine and views

By Gluck543 |

Wine and views were incredible and the atmosphere was great. Still a locally owned place which is nice. Service was ok. The place was jammed and the servers were a bit inattentive

Excellent wine tasting experience

By Ales |

Visited this second oldest CA winery and tried two flights: the Reserve and the Vista Courtyard. Highly recommend trying both as there are some differences you will highly appreciate.

A Sonoma must!

By Kim |

The Cave tasting tour was one of the best during our Sonoma trip. Nora was fun, knowledgeable and interesting. You get a mix of tasting, wine making knowledge and organic farming practices. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Sonoma!

Service was nice but a tad slow (understaffed). Great experience on tour and tasting.

By MrrMatthew |

Was here just over a year ago. Couldn't make it with time allotted on my recent trip but wish could have. Service was nice but a tad slow (understaffed). Great experience on tour and tasting. A number of delicious wines at reasonable prices for the area.

Great space, not so great wine

By FellowTraveler689225 |

We had a very disappointing experience at Gundlach Bundschu. The property itself is gorgeous with many outdoor areas that make it a great place to spend a few hours. However, it was the wine that fell short. We ordered two glasses both of which were poured from bottles opened two days prior. This left the wine tasting old and like it had been left open for too long. After hearing so many good things we were disappointed that this seemed to be their standard when it came to quality and freshness. It wasn’t the high note we were hoping to end our trip on and left a bad taste in our mouth but literally and figuratively

Pinzgauer Tour was absolutely fantastic

By Ryan H |

My fiance and I purchased the Pinzgauer Tour, which was an incredible way to spend the afternoon. Our guide (Zebbi) was very knowledgeable, passionate and fun. He served us wines all over the grounds and discussed the history of the winery, family tradition and the wines. It was a great way to learn about the Sonoma Valley, Gundlach Bundschu and the wines we were drinking. Highly Recommended!

Out of the way winery, out of this world wines

By Kelly C |

Every time we visit Sonoma (up to 3 times some years, some years not at all), we visit wineries. Some of them are gone, or have changed hands, or changed quality. Gun Bun is consistent year on year. When we visit other wineries and taste their wines 6 each or so, we like some, love a few, and don't like others.
At Gun Bun, we love ALL of them. Seriously. We tested it again this last trip (which was 6 months ago, and it took me this long to write).
The atmosphere is funky. They put a lot into the community. They are one of teh oldest wine clubs in the valley. Totally worth joining. One of my friends asked us to help them join the club because "you have the best wine cellar of anyone I know - that gunblaah bunblah is great!"

Beyond my expectations

By martin s |

Admittedly my wife and I are not wine experts nor do we typically drink much wine. We went to a tasting here (grounds are beautiful as is the drive to get there) and it far exceeded our expectations. Renee was our hostess (not sure what the correct title would be) and she was fantastic. Told us about the history of the winery and a little something about each wine we tasted so not only fun, this was educational too. We actually ended up purchasing a case of wine to be shipped home. Definitely would recommend this winery to any novice wine folks looking for very good wine, good scenery and great service

Incredible service, delicious wine

By snowbunny1812 |

Really cool tasting room with excellent staff. Obviously very knowledgeable and the gift shop was also fantastic here. A bit younger and cooler than many vineyards in Napa

Great wines, story, and service

By ags35 |

We stopped here on our recent Segway tour and were delighted that this was on our tour for the day. Katherine in the tasting room was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and was more than happy to talk about the six generations of family who run the winery as well as the recent fires. The wines are delicious and the setting is beautiful. Will definitely return on my next trip to Sonoma!

Amazing family owned venue

By william l |

My son surprised me with an early Christmas gift - a personal tour of the winery with the great-great grandson of the founder

Fun Winery and Atmosphere, Great Wines

By worldmeetsgirl19 |

This was by far my favorite winery stop of our weekend. Really great chill atmosphere on the tasting patio where you can enjoy a great flight of reserve wines while enjoying a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains in the background. Every single wine we tasted was so delicious all three of us joined their wine club! The prices on most of the wines were very reasonable and I can't wait to get my first shipment! We would not have come to this winery, but one of the tasting experts at another winery recommended it and said it was one of the most fun wineries in Sonoma, and she was right! We could have sat outside drinking wine all day. If I lived in Sonoma, this is where I would spend all of my weekend days! You will not regret a day at Gun Bun!

This Is More Than Just a Winery-It is a Wonderful Experience

By Carl V |

Arrive on a beautiful day and tour the beautiful grounds. Walk around the picnic area, see the vineyards, the valley and pond and then...enter the sampling room.

This is a package deal-enjoy the experience, not just the wine. Bring a picnic lunch, if desire.

Talk to staff. Our staff guide was Ronnie-ask Ronnie about the pictures of the family posted on the wall-the history is quite colorful!

Then, look at the vineyard and understand why daily changes to the climate impact the vines as you move up the hill from the valley.

Oh, the wine?

Our favorite was the Merlot. But there are others that are also equally striking. Please note-I am not a wine expert but I know. What I like.

Enjoy your trip.

Good wines and great views

This place has good wines and great views. It is rustic but has character and very friendly people that serve you.

11/10 Hospitality by Maegan

By Amber A |

My partner and I went for an impromptu visit yesterday because we’ve sold the wine in the past at restaurants and are familiar with Gund bund’s history and wanted to check it out after a couple years of living in the area— though we only stayed for a short amount of time (we elected to forgo the tasting and go with a bottle) we had an amazing time, mostly because we were greeted in such a welcoming way at the concierge desk! Maegan (sp?) was seriously such a delight walking right in the door—she made the experience feel like old friends catching up. Excellent recommendations, offered some extra splashes to determine what we like, and skillfully led us to investing in a bottle instead of a couple of glasses so we could take some home. That dry gewurtz is incredible! I will solely recommend people to come to GB based off our experience with the hospitality, she’s definitely a gem and outshines people who have been in that same role for decades longer. Keep her around! PS: the tasting room is a beautiful combination of super trendy and classic, the apparel is great, too. Wine quality goes without saying, but you can get great wine just about anywhere around in norcal wine country— genuine hospitality is a different story 😌

Take the Pinz Tour at GunBun

By Christi W |

This vineyard tour was amazing! As part of a girls weekend, we took the Pinz Excursion through the vineyard - our guide provided humor, history and horticulture :) We learned how the family started the vineyard, sustained it through prohibition, and currently uses sustainable growing practices. Even better, we tasted the wines + food under a covered pavilion in the middle of the vines. Highly recommend this winery, and specifically the Pinz tour, for your next adventure.

Love the picnic area

By Michelle J |

The picnic area is scenic, overlooking a lake. We did the tasting and I only liked the Chardonnay. The tasting room is super cute inside.

Trip & Tour led to a Wine Club Member

By Natalie B |

We had a great time on the walking tour with Win. He was a great host who seemed to read the room very well in terms of having wine club members, people new to wine, and everything in-between. I primarily selected Gun Bun because of the history behind it, and that did not disappoint. The estate is stunning! Very hard to find places that have that much property now. My husband and I have different palates and we both loved everything we tried, and felt the wines are very reasonably priced, causing us to join the wine club. After the tour, we bought a bottle and sat on a hillside picnic table enjoying a glass or two. Tons of space for a quiet moment!

Great service

By Jennifer K |

Stopped here for our first tasting of the morning. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. A very laid back atmosphere with outdoor seating and great wine!

Stunning grounds

By GoDucks99 |

Just a 10-minute ride from downtown Sonoma. Beautiful grounds. We reserved a table with the view of the lake (holding pond). Awfully pretty. Staff attentive and friendly. Zin was delicious.

Amazing, underrated wines with friendly, expert staff who take joy in serving you

By Uvinie H |

This is an incredible, hidden gem in Sonoma. The wines are on par, if not better, than most of the Napa wines you taste and the atmosphere is relaxed with none of the snobbery you might expect with high quality winemaking. Look for Gabe Brezic, who led us on a tour of the wine cave and explained the rich history of the family (this is the oldest family owned winery in the state) and their continued tradition and dedication to winemaking. Gabe was extremely knowledgable about the winemaking process, the wines themselves with recommendations on food to pair them with, as well as the family history. It was a really special treat to have someone lead us through the tour with a clear love and passion for the wines and for winemaking. In terms of wines to try, their Gewürztraminer is aromatic, beautiful and a rare find in these parts. The red wines are all flavorful, interesting, and great for pairing with food or to drink on their own. Highly recommend the Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cab Sauvignon. Enjoy!

Paradise in the valleys

By Jenny C |

Such an amazing experience. This place it's totally beautiful. The wine it's delicious, the festivals and music concerts are incredible .

Wines were good, but we were rushed

By WG98 |

We stopped in without a reservation and got a tasting. We were happy about that. The wines were good as well. However, we were rushed. The second someone was done, the server came over and expected everyone else to finish as she was pouring. Not happy about that. There was no rudeness, but it did not have that warmth about it. Again, just really felt rushed.

Lovely views, meh wine

By GoTravel0033 |

The whole property is gorgeous and we wanted to do cave tour, but that only happens on the weekend. The staff seemed distracted, and would wander away to talk to each other and someone else would wander by to continue your tasting, but had no idea where you were in the flight. I didn't taste a single wine I liked here. Would not return.

Fun time at GunBun cave tour

By Chuck A |

Cave tour w friends - what a great time! Our guide was knowledgeable and everyone enjoyed it. The merch shop afterward was an added treat! One of our faves and must stop in Sonoma!

Fun, informative tour!

By Chris L |

I’m not a big wine drinker (ended up giving most of my samples to my wife), but we really enjoyed our tour with Cat. She was funny and informative—great history lesson on this historic winery!

Awesome experience

By Kendall O |

This was so much fun for my bachelorette getaway. My friends and I had the best time! Delicious wines, great service and a beautiful atmosphere. We loved the tour! Can’t wait to come again.

Lovely hidden gem!

By Mary V |

We were so happy at this beautiful winery that we joined their wine club with full intentions of returning and great anticipation for their delicious wine shipments. The staff was lovely, the grounds well kept and welcoming - and the wine was fantastic. We were delighted to find this place!

Worst Winery I have ever visited

By gamerbabe55 |

We visited Gundlach Bundschu Winery with a group of eight. at a picnic table on their I have visited more wineries than I can count in the Napa, Sonoma, Livermore valleys as well as in France. This was the worst experience by far. The tastings are $25 each. Everyone at the table is "required" to taste- you are allowed one "designated driver" at the table who is charged $10. Everyone else whether they drink or not is charged $25. We ordered a few snack plates which are incredibly overpriced for a very small portion.
The mushrooms arrived with mold on them and were quickly taken away without even an
apology! Several in our group received the wrong wine flights- and for those who did not drink and ordered fruit juices, when they came they were incorrect. The hostess that poured the wine was neither friendly nor knowledgeable. Needless to say we will not be going back.

Awesome experience!

By CSS |

Wondeful atmosphere. Very knowledgeable and attentive staff. The wine is very high quality and comes from one of the oldest wineries in California. The grounds and surrounding town of Sonoma are awesome. Great places to eat in town around the square afterwards.

Nice place for wine tasting

By editasmolarova |

We were there for wine tasting. Very nace place with really good service and delicious wine. We can just recommend this wineyard

Cave Tour

By Lulu |

We've been members of GunBun for over five years and have taken the Pinz Excursion, which was a great experience, but had never done the Cave Tour until recently.

Our guide was John and he was not only very knowledgeable about the history of the winery and the wines but was also a lot of fun!

We love the winery and always enjoy going to pick up our wine club order and relaxing in their casual and friendly setting.

Excellent Wines, Excellent Tour

By Pat M |

We took the cave tour on a Sunday afternoon. Jamie, our guide, was personable and informative. We learned the history of the family that has worked the land for six generations, as well as a great deal of information on the terroir and the varietals. Each of the six wines we sampled as we walked and learned was at least very good, and most were sensational. If you can only make it to one winery in the area, make it this one.

Gundlach Bundschu Winery was amazing!

By KeithCPiggy |

We attended the Vineyard and Cave Experience and had a wonderful time. Kent, our guide, had keen sense of humor and provided the group with a full and interesting history of GB. The wines we tasted were varied (white and red) with amazing flavors. I highly recommend a tour.

Everything is amazing

By ArtsnSciences |

Growing up in Marin, I've visited a ton of wineries in Napa & Sonoma, but for some reason never got to this one, which is a terrible shame because this is probably the BEST winery I've ever been to. In my experience, winery tastings yield a few good choices and a few "meh." Sometimes, I find a winery with a few really great choices, but still one or two just "meh." But Gundlach Bundschu's wines....every single one was amazing. There was not one I wasn't enthusiastic about. They have a wine club, and I've never considered belonging to a wine club for fear of getting a less-than-enjoyable selection. But I can tell you, if I still lived in California, I would absolutely belong to this wine club. I've never had such a positive tasting experience.

Cave tour, great wine!

By M1492NVmarinak |

We are long-time Gundlach wine club members and it has been a while since we had taken advantage of one great benefit in being club members - a winery tour. This was, by far, the best tour we have had in a winery in many years! The lady who was giving us the tour was very knowledgeable and we learned new different facts about the family, the land, the growing of the vineyard all while walking through the cave and into the vineyards! The beautiful tasting around the table in the cave was just the icing on the cake. If you haven’t tried gone yet, I would highly recommend it.

Sublime.

By KookyRedHead |

I felt compelled to write a review of this magical place from the point of view of a crew member for a band who played here recently. Not just your standard customer review. The level of friendliness, generosity and professionalism shown towards me from the owner, staff and security team of this winery, was a complete breath of fresh air. They made me feel very welcome in all areas of the site in which we were based, despite me being just a small member of the team they were hosting for. The wines were great and the atmosphere of the gig was second to none. I wondered how a gig in an open barn in the middle of nowhere would pan out - yet the crowds came and what a jolly drunken bunch they were! A fantastic venue for music, in a fantastic setting. The sunset over the autumn red grapevines, was incredible. Thanks for the great memories!

Pinz Spinz!

By Drussell15 |

We signed up for the Pinz Spinz - a tour of the vineyards riding on the back of a Pinzgauer Austrian military vehicle (it was comfortable!) Our host was a member of the Bundschu family - we sampled six wines at different stops along the way, and he spoke about the history of the family business, a little bit about how wines are made now, and events happening at the winery. We really enjoyed it - nice relaxing afternoon. Grounds are beautiful.

Awesome experience

Oldest family owned winery in the US! Great wine host 😊 awesome experience 🙏🏻🍷🍷🍷need more wine ... A Must stop on the Sonoma wine trail

A fun wine tasting experience

By djptravels |

We found Gun-Bun a casual and fun place to have a wine tasting. Great helpful staff with reasonable pricing and a beautiful setting.

We would go back again.

Gorgeous and delicious!

By Caroline S |

Such a beautiful setting - we did a wine tasting on our bike tour and this was the second stop. The “wine guide” was friendly and knowledgeable - really down-to earth,

Beautiful area, okay wine

By Tink0707 |

There were 6 of us on a girls trip. We sat at the donkey table. Charlie was good, informative, until he went on a lunch break & said someone else would finish helping us & it took 45 minutes for someone to finally come over & quickly give us the last 2 wines but not much info. The area is nice, the gift shop was one of the better ones but our reservation was 90 minutes & we were there nearly 2.5 hours w people waiting for tables that were frustrated (and we were frustrated that it took so long). I’m not a big wine drinker, but thought it was alright. Several in our group are big wine drinkers & they bought 2 bottles (bought more elsewhere) so take that for what it’s worth. We also got both the meat & the cheese board & they were good.

Lovely experience at Gundlach Bundschu

By Daydream312441 |

My wife and I visited Gundlach Bundschu for a tasting on a Tuesday afternoon. Misty was our host/educator, and she did an excellent job teaching us about the vineyard and the various wines that we got to try. The venue was lovely. We were seated outside, overlooking a pond that was populated with geese and then ducks. It was a beautiful day, and a lovely experience; it’s been a long time since I’ve been that relaxed. It is very likely that we will visit again on our next visit to Sonoma. Thank you, Misty, for being such a great host, and thank GunBun, for the lovely wines!

It’s the right flight!

By TravelAgentWendy |

Great afternoon fun for a wine flight. Choose a good weather day, and enjoy the weather be and scenery!

A Nice Surprise on our Wine Tour

By Byngette |

We organized our own wine tour and drove from one to another with our rental while here visiting Sonoma. Gundlach Bundschu is a family run winery who's values shine through their staff during their wine tastings. We did an indoor tasting with an older gentleman who described the history of the family run vineyard right down to the exact dates that the land was purchased by the original family and all of the struggles they went through to get to where they are today. It was incredible to learn. The wine was very good as well, especially the reds. Such deep, bold flavors!
They have a gift shop attached to the tasting room too with these adorable shirts that have little pictures on them spelling out the name of the winery. There is a picture on them of a gun, next to it a lock, then a bun, and lastly a shoe. It's so cute! And witty! They have many other items for sale as well, and some very nice views outside of the lake from their outdoor patio where you can also do tastings. We really enjoyed ourselves here and it will be a winery we remember for a long time.

Great wine and great views

By Linda S |

Very beautiful place. We arrived early for our reservation and while we were waiting a deer walked behind us up the hill.
Our wine tasting took place in the gift shop area while we were standing at the bar. I prefer to be seated but this was fine. Our wine guide was knowledgeable about the history of the winery and how the climate affected the grapes. We did the tasting and the extra add on. Wines were very good and we purchased some. The caves were closed but they looked like it would be an amazing place to see.
The winery is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The restrooms are in a building outside and were very clean. The tasting area sits on top of a hill and the views are beautiful. There are tables outside for seating to enjoy a glass or bottle.
I would recommend.

Beautiful Vineyard and Winery

By mark s |

We did the The Pinzgauer Tour with Rob Bundschu as our guide and it was a priceless experience. Rob is a great guide and host and made our experience one we will never forget. The views from the top of the vineyard are breathtaking and that along with Rob's sense of humor and accommodating personality, made our visit to Gundlach Bundschu the best visit we had in Sonoma or Napa, Thanks Rob!

Gorgeous cave visit

By Donna B |

So, we went on the cave visit, Katie was our guide, and boy does she know her business! The views from the upper lawns, across the vineyard, were gorgeous. Afterward, we enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio and needed to be peeled off of the chairs to go to dinner.

I can see why it is so popular for weddings and special events. Great wine, great employees, and the gift shop was fabulous, too.

I hope you're greeted more warmly than I was!

By William B |

My wife phoned a week ahead of my arrival, and let the folks know I was looking specifically for Petit Verdot. On the phone it was like "sure, come right in".

It was really rainy the day I arrived, so just getting there was a bit of a chore. When I walked in, I was NOT greeted warmly. The girl behind the desk was reading a book and seemed bothered that I arrived. She then explained that Petit Verdot was only available to their wine club members. Gosh I wish we would have heard that before I made the trek in the rain!

I left shortly after. When I turned around, the girl resumed reading her book.

By the way, my wife and I were there with a few friends years before and it was a much better experience. This is what I expected on this trip. So it was a real disappointment...

As the owner of a company myself, I know that sometimes it takes a while to bring new people up to speed. The folks at Gundlach Bundshu seem like good family-oriented people. And there are many positive reviews here. I guess this was just not my lucky day at this location...

Saturday wine tasting

A nice vineyard in Sonoma with some fine red blends. Try out the Sonoma vineyards rather than Napa and leave the crowd and high prices behind! Friendly service and knowledgeable folks behind the counter.

Relaxing Wine Tasting in Napa Valley

By Tomby1 |

A great wine tasting in the outside courtyard, by the lake.

Completely relaxed - we didn't feel hurried at all. We were able to share a glass between 2, half the expected cost and meant I didn't have to worry about driving, so was very impressed they offered that option.

We ended up buying a bottle of their excellent 2014 Heritage Pinot Noir to enjoy at home!

Gundlach Bundschu gives seamlessly

By Lawrence B |

The scenery and outdoor ambience tries but doesn’t succeed in excelling or surpassing the finely textured notes of sublimity in the wine that their knowledgeable tasting crew graciously pours. Their flexible finance levels allow visitors to choose the elevation of commitment to satisfy their ambitions in enjoyment. Modest wine club memberships allow for extravagance or economy in setting wine aside for special occasions that guests will assuredly appreciate, or for more frequent indulgence whether deserved or demanded. Ya gotta love ❤️ those reds, but you’d be a fool not to try and buy their rose’, their reisling, their gewurtraminer or their Chardonnay. One of the very few wineries where we’re already planning our next return trip before we have left them.

Enjoyable

By Nancy A |

We made a reservation for inside the tasting room. It was inviting and nice. Our server was very informative, and we enjoyed the wines. Outside seating has a lovely view which we were still able to see

Great place to spend an afternoon.

By 911Karen1960 |

Our host was excellent and we had a lot of fun. He explained the history of the winery and shared some great tips about the different wines. We had a very enjoyable time.

One of the best in California

Awesome wines from awesome people. If you miss this one, you will miss one of the best. Unpretentious, welcoming, not pushy and some of the best wine from all of California.
Love these people and their work.

Great winery

We had a late afternoon reservation for a group of 8. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our tasting was done in the tasting room and the wine was delicious, pours were generous and our educator was very interesting. Highly recommend!

Pleasant and relaxing wine tasting on a pleasant patio

By maryofnavarre |

Not as fancy as some, but as the oldest continually operating family owned vineyard in Sonoma, Gun Bun is worth a visit. The Courtyard tasting lets you experience a wide range of their wines from chardonnays to merlot to their signature wine selling for $100 a bottle. It's a bargain at $30. The hostess was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly.
Reservations are recommended but we were at an early tasting (11 a.m.) in July and there was plenty of room for more customers. The whole area is an amazing with miles and miles of vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see. Don't miss downtown Sonoma, just 5 minutes away from Gun Bun. It's a charming town with lots of restaurants and shopping and a beautiful town square.

Excellent wines/views!! Must do!

By Jamie K |

Gun Bun is a must! And splurging for a tasting outside is a must! The inside tasting is very crowded and loud. There's nothing like enjoying the oldest family vineyard in the region out in the sun with fantastic wines (my faves of Sonoma) and relaxation. They even had a dj, but note the music was not very loud at all - just a nice soft backdrop. The Donkey Bar has first-come, first-served tables as well, but those were clearly taken first thing and not worth relying on. Worst case, there's picnic tables you can snag further up the property, still with great views!

Huichica 2016 music festival at Gundlach

By QQBob |

Go here almost every year for the Huichica music festival and wine. This will be the last year, for $60 each plus $10 to park they do not allow any food in and no outside alcohol which I totally understand, buy their wine and support their food vendors. But.........., before you buy a $27-$45 bottle of wine they won't even give you a 1.5 ounce taste, this is a winery right ? If people abuse it say there's a two taste limit ? Their response was buy a glass for $12, what a deal huh ? The last straw is now there are 'black-band only' areas, more money motivated decisions, so you are limited where you can go. I think Gundlach has gotten too greedy and full of themselves, the attendance showed it this year, too bad, there are many other choices to drop $250+ at each year.

An absolutely beautiful winery!

By Mary V |

We had visited this wonderful place a couple of years ago and didn't have time to do a tasting with this visit, but we did want to purchase a couple more aerators. They have an amazing assortment of wine nozzles in the form of a dragon, elephant, octopus, T-rex... so many animals! We had each purchased one during our first visit and wanted more for our own use and for gifts. And the wine is good too! Next time we stop by we'll be sure to do another tasting -- great staff and beautiful location --

Sonoma's Best - A Must See!

By thefarwest |

Just a few minutes from the Sonoma Square, this beautiful & historic winery boasts the best views, amazing wines, and unparalleled customer service. Perfect place to spend your afternoon, or the entire day. Call ahead to book a Pinzgauer tour, or private tasting in the Bungalow. Making reservations in advance will provide you with a larger amount of options & activities.

We've hosted tastings, events, and cave dinners at this location as well as attended their concerts in the barn, summer music festival, private concerts No matter what you're doing at GunBun, you're sure to have an amazing time doing it. The staff makes you feel like you're part of the family - and odds are, you'll run into several Bundschu family members during your visit.

Customer service is key to their team and is apparent the minute you walk in the door. Their wines are at the top of their game and their vineyards provide some of the best vintages you'll find in the region. It's easy to get lost in the history of the winery while looking at the old pictures and walking around the property - just a few things we recommend you do during your visit.

As a "local" in Sonoma - this is where we tell all of our friends and clients to go. GunBun is an amazing venue with outstanding options that create memorable experiences for groups of any size. Their event staff & winery team are "masters of their craft" and you don't want to miss visiting them while you're in Wine Country.

Our favorite afternoon hang-out - wines by the glass from the "Donkey Bar" and a view that will take your breath away at Sunset.

Amazing view and terrace

By Ping |

We spent 3 hours sitting on the patio and sipping wine. The view is breathtaking! The people are super nice and knowledgeable about wine and the history of the winery. We had a pairing of cheese and tapas which really accompanied the wines well. Just a lovely lazy afternoon in beautiful surroundings. A must see for every wine lover!

Pinzgauer Excursion

By Desiraprewitt |

A group of 4 of us decided to do this tasting tour. It was a 10-12-person, Pinzgauer Austrian Army Vehicle, which drives you thru their winery. We started with the white wine, then had 4 others through out various stops along the way. We were able to get out of the truck, stop along the way for wine and pictures. At the end of the tour allows you to see inside their caves and then set outside on the wonderful patio.

OMG the Cave Tour/Tasting!

By Lisa R |

We had a wonderful time here! Came for my bachelorette party to do the cave tour/tasting - it was really interesting and the tasting room down there is really cool. We enjoyed the wines a lot, and the outdoor spaces at GunBun are so beautiful!

We love Gun Bun

By G G |

We are enthusiastic Gun Bun fans (is “Gun Bunners” a thing?) and have been members of their wine club for over 18 years. If you are want pretentious , snubby workers being elistist as they poor wines regaling you with $100+ prices then definitely DO NOT come here.

If you are looking for a place filled with friendly, down to earth people who love their very long family wine history and work hard to share this with visitors in a welcoming environment then DO NOT MISS GUN BUN.

The wines are fantastic, the prices are reasonable, the grounds are beautiful and there are lots of different experiences to choose from. Gun Bun hosts lots of events too on their ground so which are great if you are local to California (sadly we are not) so check out there calendar as they live their music festivals held right in the winery.

Don’t be surprised if you meet a Bundschu. You probably won’t know it unless you look at the pictures in their tasting room or probe them with questions. They are a very humble family that have a lot to be proud of.

We took our tour and were delighted to meet Rob Budnschu who walked us through the cave and grounds pouring as we went. He had the same humility as the other family members we have met.

Pinz Tour 🤩 Not your average tasting

By machugas |

We had so much fun on the Pinz tour. Rib was a great guide with a wealth if knowledge about the family (he is a Bunschu) and the vineyard. We loved going into the vineyard and seeing it up close - even the resident bees and gopher holes. It’s all part of the vineyard. The pours (6 of them) were generous, the wine was very good and the charcuterie board and rest stop was appreciated. We had a warm day on our visit and the Pinz truck provides ample shade. Very much recommend Gun-Bun and the Pinz tour.

Great tour

By richard c |

A really nice place.
Very informative tour with just the right amount if wine so you could appreciate it as we went round.

We learned a lot about the history and about wine making.

We are not wine buffs ( we usually buy it from lidl ) but it tasted great even though it was pricey.

The guide was non pushy and we really enjoyed it

Good Reds

By Policy53 |

This was our 2nd visit to the Winery. First was 5 years ago. The tasting room space has expanded and the outdoor tent restaurant provides are larger seating area. We enjoyed the tasting but did not get the cozy - intimate vibe we enjoyed during our previous visit. Would I visit again? yes but maybe just go buy wine not sit there for lunch.

Nice private tasting / beautiful grounds

By mikeys2 |

I love hearing about the history of the wineries. Gundlach was no exception. They do have a general public tasting room, but we had arranged for a private tour. The tasting was in the house that the grandparents had built. Gundlach has been a family business for 160 years. Kind of neat to hear about how the winery has evolved through generations. The tasting room overlooks the a significant portion of the vineyard, which offered some great views. The wine was very good (Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs).

Great wines, great experience.

By Pam3K |

This is a great place to relax and taste excellent wines. They have several outdoor areas for tasting where you can sit and take in the beautiful surroundings while sipping their great wines. They also have a very nice indoor room as well as the stand up bar in the tasting room. Their wines are consistent good, the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, a great experience!

Cave tour!

By MJCOHR |

We booked the cave tour and Win was our tour guide--so much fun! He was entertaining, interesting, and extremely knowledgeable. Most importantly he made us laugh. I've tasted wine many places and this was one of the best experiences because of Win.

Good place for an afternoon picnic!

By Sloped_Bench |

After loading up on deli supplies, we drove out to "GunBun" for an afternoon lunch. They have an area south of the tasting area where you can buy a bottle of wine and either picnic on the grass area or grab a table under a large awning.

The staff in this area was very friendly, casual and professional. We tasted a couple whites, chose the estate Gewurztraminer and enjoyed our sandwiches and sides.

We were there on Saturday and it was relatively quiet compared to the tasting area which was buzzing.

Beautiful setting on the patio

By wmccfp |

We're not big wine people but we enjoy seeing new places and experiences. Gundlach has a very pretty setting. We found the cheese board to be unsatisfactory and the service average. Visit for the views.

Fun, educational experience

By carol r |

We went to 10 wineries on our trip and this was by far the most educational. We got to try a wine being aged in different types of barrels, and toured the grounds for information about soils, elevation, etc.

Small family owned winery with delicious wines

By JKoger |

We were visiting Napa and someone recommended Gundlach so we decided to make the trip over to Sonoma. Small winery with a rich tradition and the family is still involved. One of the family members guided our tour. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed touring the grounds and the cellars. Highly recommend the visit.

Beautiful location, great wine

By lhdtraveler |

My husband and I stopped at Gundlach Bundschu at the recommendation of a local friend. We were not disappointed. The grounds are beautiful, the tasting was fun, and the wine was top rate. We had a case shipped home!

Lovely venue, great wine, friendly staff

By Carol B |

We went to "Gun Bun" on our Segway tour. We had a picnic lunch on their patio overlooking a large pond. It is a lovely setting. (Note: food must be brought in, but that is refreshing after several days of salads and cheese plates offered at several of the wineries.) Even though it was high season in wine country, mid-week there were plenty of picnic tables. We did the flight tasting, and felt the wine was excellent. The tasting room was crowded, but someone helped us immediately. Very personable and attentive staff. The atmosphere is laid back and unassuming, which is also refreshing. The winery has a better gift shop than most. History is one of the main draws and is interesting, even for those who are not history buffs. We didn't take a winery tour, but we were able to go into the aging caves because we were on the Segway tour. They are beautiful, and a great place for photos. The vineyards coming into Gunlach Bundschu are picture perfect, so plenty of photo ops. This winery is well worth a visit!

The Best Winery in Sonoma !

By marilu93030 |

The delicious wine, especially the Tempernilo wine! The staff is the friendliest and most knowledgeable about the family, the property and the wines! A definite must see in Sonoma. The best kept secret.

Last Minute Tour

By ZsaZsa |

What a fun and informative tour! Cave tours are apparently offered at 11am and 2pm and we arrived right at 11am and got in! There were about 6 of us. We spent about 2 hours with our host, Charlie (?) and had the best time. He was fun, he was informative and we learned so much that day. Bonus, the wines were really good too. We started out in the main building/gift shop with a general introduction, moved in to the (cool) caves, wandered out to the vineyard where we learned about the different grapes and even got to taste some off of the vine. Bottled water and parasails were offered due to the sun and heat. Back to the cave to learn some more and finish off the wine tastings. Great property and such a great tour. So glad we stopped, totally wasn't on our plan that day.

Excellent Service and Stunning Venue

By rodvilencia |

I was in Napa for an industry conference and our organization booked a tasting and sit down dinner for about 125 people at this winery. The history of this winery is amazing and the dinner, wine, and ambience were spot on. My meal was delicious and they Service was excellent. The facility was stunning and the sunset views were just amazing. One of the family members gave a talk about the history of this amazing winery and it added even more charm to our experience there. Everyone in our group raved about our dinner party there and I loved the Farm to Table style that they served us. I would highly recommend this winery for events and for group tastings. I would go there again without question.

A lovely Tasting with Gorgeous Views!

By Rainbow D |

My best friend of over 40 years and I decided to take a trip to California Wine Country to celebrate life! We visited several wineries and vineyards while in the area. Gundlach Bundschu was a favorite! Not only for the taste of the wine but also for the amazing atmosphere and gorgeous setting! We had an outdoor tasting on the banks of a stunning pond at the foot of the Sonoma Hills. My friend joined their club and we hope to return for a tour of the wine cave someday. It was a beautiful experience!

Great history, ok tasting experience

By LauraG050 |

This is really a lovely property on the side of a hill. Our group had a private tasting in the library. In addition to the wines there was a very nice selection of cheeses, fruit, nuts, breadsticks, etc. The family history of the place was really interesting, and our host told their stories very well. The wines themselves were just ok - I thought many of them were overpriced. Our group is a pretty serious group of wine buyers, but our host was somewhat reluctant to deviate from the defined wine list. When she was convinced to offer us a couple of additional wines she was rewarded by additional sales.

Great wine and location!

By Amanda E |

Always enjoy visiting GunBun! It's a great place to sip wine, visit with friends and family and escape the crazy day-to-day. Don't get there often enough, but always enjoy my time when I am on their beautiful grounds!

Cute place, okay wine

By Julie Ann |

Underwhelming if you are visiting wine country from out of town. Wine is just okay. Cute place for sure so could complete understand people who live around the area visiting but, for the prices, it's not somewhere I would put on the itinerary again. Lot's of other wineries in this same range for tastings with better views and better wines for tourists.

Gun-Lock Bun-Shoe!

By Jeff K |

A must see in wine country. The service is great, the wines are fantastic and the views are truly amazing. The location is easy to get to and close to other wineries. Sonoma is a better overall experience than Napa.

Great tasting at a reasonable price

By DreamaG |

We had a wonderful tasting experience during our visit. The wines are very good and staff is knowledgeable but not overbearing. The tasting is priced well at $25 per tasting ($5 extra for the reserve). The grounds of the winery are beautiful. I’d suggest sitting outside or walking around the property to take in the views. The winery is dog friendly as well.

Jordan was fantastic

By tf1234562020 |

Hi…had a wonderful time at your winery.
Great wines and an exceptional experience with Jordan!
She made the visit and our total experience to Sonoma the best. I would highly recommend Jordan if ever visiting the wine country.
Thank you Jordan!!!
Maybe she can be highlighted on GunBun Instagram in the future. Your passion, expertise and friendliness are contagious. Best. 😀🍷

Love this place so much!

By Alexandra S |

As usual, I had a lovely tasting and time at GunBun. I went with some friends from out of town for a simple tasting in the courtyard and experienced warm greetings, delicious wine, deeply informed hosts, and beautiful views. I love how low-key and unpretentious this winery is without feeling lowbrow. And whatever music is playing is always fantastic! This is my favorite Sonoma Valley winery, and GunBun has a fan for life!

Visit to Sonoma made spectacular !

By Sheriff1362 |

Wanted to visit “wine country” and Gundlach Bundschu Winery was suggested to us. We walked in loved the outdoor scenery and the wine was refreshing. Brent served us our tasting and was extremely knowledgeable and Rosy was very accommodating. Definitely a must stop in Sonoma!

Great place

By Justin B |

Very friendly people. Very well versed in the wine and the history of the place. The best merchandise selection in all of Sonoma. Wine was great as well. Really cool place.

Worth a Visit

By sdavis0041 |

Tasting room is warm and inviting.
As are the staff, whom are also very knowledgeable. Great history of this family owned vineyard.
Joined the club as we really liked the Pinot and the Cab.

Member tasting experience

By Jennifer H |

We love the ambiance, GB staff, and delicious wine! Also, the Donkey Bar is quaint. It would be better if the staff assigned to each reservation had fewer tables to tend to. It felt like the time between wine pours was a bit longer than it should be. The ratio of reservations per staff was too high, thus making the experience a bit diluted for each table. Weather was perfect and the property is beautiful. One of a kind.

Private tour with a difference

By pogrady |

We were made feel very special upon arrival with a nice complimentary taste of wines to come, our private tour guide was just so knowledgable and the wines were just great especially as we got the history of the whole place - can definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good wine tour

Beautiful Picnic Spot

By kpocampo |

We were a party of 8 and the historic room ($20 pp)was full so they advised us of the picnic table tasting ($30 pp) or the shack with bottles of wine for sale to take to the top with picnic tables and a fantastic view.
We had a Gewürztraminer and a cuvée that everyone enjoyed. We bought cheese there and enjoyed the view under the shade of the tree.

Missing a great view

By Natashapegnim |

We rode our bikes here and the road up is so beautiful! The hill is tough though with a beach cruiser.

I gave this 4 stars because there are no views and it's not really a tasting? It's a flight and that's it. They just put it down and move on. Was hoping for more of a tasting experience. The wine was great though and the server was sweet.

The chairs were also super uncomfortable. We were sat at one of the high tops and it's a bar stool with no where for your legs so it's just plain uncomfortable.

Gotta ride the Swiss army truck (Pinz tour)!

By Worlds_of_Wonder |

This was my 2nd favorite winery. Some really good wines, but what I most enjoyed was the Pinz tour run by Rob, one of the family, and learning more about the winery's efforts to become organic/sustainable. Pinz tour would not be that good if a lot of people, but is wonderful if the group is small--stopping in the vineyard to enjoy the scenery and have a charcuterie/cheese platter is a treat. tour also includes some small souvenirs. Did not hear any, but there are often opportunities to hear music.

Wow! Fantastic wines and great tasting

By antiquesfreak |

This medium sized old winery serves the most fantastic wines. A must stop in your visit to Sonoma. Can add crackers and cheese to enhance the tasting.

$30 tasting WTH???

By yourcompadre |

Not sure when these places became this expensive for a tasting but $30 for 5 small tastes is a joke. The hostess also was very uninterested and barely said a word while we tasted.

Will not be back. Plenty of others at the $10 tasting range with better wines.

For the record we stayed because of the seating and environment. Hence the 2 stars.

Great cave tour- even in the rain!

By wineloverNV |

I was very reluctant to keep our cave tour reservation because it was pouring all day. We went ahead and met our tour and were very glad that we did. Rob was great and had so much family history that it really gave you a behind the scenes view of the many years the winery has been owned by the same family. Wine tasting was great they introduced us to a new wine that we now really love and bought a bottle to bring home- the TEMPRANILLO. We had a great education on the wood used in the barrels and Rob made it fun to learn. Thanks great time.

Fun Winery

By LifeAtlasTravel |

Great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff. It was a great stop on our bike tour. Lots of people there, plus they sold snacks!

Take the Pinzgaeur tour!

By adthomas529 |

GunBun as it's known to the locals is an awesome property! Once you arrive, it's easy to see how people come out and spend an afternoon there. We took the Pinzgaeur tour with Nora as our guide and she was great! Very knowledgeable and just a lot of fun. Great tasting wine and priced right too! Definitely recommend stopping in if you're in the area. We'll be back!!

Relaxed tasting in old stone room/gift store

By mpaine2018 |

This winery was recommended by several other wineries we enjoyed visiting. It's right next to Scribe - and although we didn't visit Scribe, the two sound as if they're very disparate experiences (we heard awful things about Scribe). Gundlach Bundschu reminds me of wine tasting 15 years ago (although it's not free!). Wine was poured inside an old stone room that doubles as a gift shop (not my favorite kind of tasting room), but the rest of the grounds were very attractive and there's a lot of seating outside, where you're welcome to take your tastings. The men and women pouring were informative, relaxed and lots of fun. The crowd was similar. We enjoyed the wines, but not as much as some other wineries in Sonoma (Three Sticks, for example). But overall it was a very good experience and I would recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to drink only pinots or only cabs (they pour a lot of different varietals).

Favorite setting for enjoying Sonoma vineuards

By Patti G |

We reserved our tasting for the courtyard. It is such a beautiful place to sit and enjoy our wine. We sat at a table under an umbrella over looking the water. Our server, Nora, was very knowledgeable about the history of Gundlach Bundschu and the wine. They also have music venues on the property. We are now wine club members and are looking forward to our next visit along with listening to some music.

Lovely winery

By Janet C |

This was my first winery in my first visit to Sonoma. It was the perfect way to start the trip. Very relaxing in a beautiful outdoor area. Carol did an excellent job with educating us on the history of the winery as well as the wines.

Beautiful Winery and Wines

By Serenity |

I love this winery. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is very welcoming and friendly. I love the wines. La Cudrilla, Rose Pinot, Gewurtzraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Alicante Bouschet are all beautiful. The wines are very fragrant and very delicious. Can't wait to check out Abbott's Passage Winery. There's fun activities at the winery and at Abbott's. It's an original Sonoma winery since 1858. Definitely check it out.

Great experience & wines!

By Vivian R |

We came to Gundlach Bundschu based on my parents recommendation from when they visited previously. We made a reservation in advance, but I do not think you need one necessarily. We were seated outside on their patio. The scenery was breathtaking and the weather was perfect! Our tasting included 5 wines and we ended up walking out with 4 bottles! We highly enjoyed their merlot and GEWURZTRAMINER. The GEWURZTRAMINER, was very unique and sweet and nothing like I've had before. Our host, Lucy, was very nice and made our tasting very enjoyable!

Three Climates on One Property

By Linda M |

Gundlach Bundschu is one of the oldest wineries in Sonoma. The all stone walls of the tasting room create the atmosphere of sampling in a cave. Low lighting, stone and wood - cool, masculine, historic. The friendly staff happily shared history and the characteristics of the wines. The tasting was well paced.

Aside from the tasting room, the property offers several other points of interest. Gundlach Bundschu stores their wines in a cave. We did not do a tour of the cave but a peek showed rows of large barrels. The winery owns an old military vehicle to take visitors around the property. In addition to these, there are wonderful views toward the Pacific, walking paths, a large patio with tables and umbrellas, plenty of washrooms. One thing that is different from most winery properties is the Gundlach Bundschu natural amphitheater.

I highly recommend a visit to this property.

Excellent tour and wines

By Melissa P |

Nora gave us the best tour we had in Sonoma. Having the wine tasting while we were touring the vineyard was a great idea, and gave us more time to enjoy each wine than the typical wine tasting session. The grounds were gorgeous, and the tour was very interesting.

Good but not the best

By elsie C. |

Gundlach Bundschu Winery is beautiful. We signed up for a regular tasting, not the whole tour. The lady at the counter was a very sweet lady. She knows about the wine for sure but not much engagement was made there. It was just pouring wine, introducing the wine and a little history about the property. Very routine. Our tasting lasted less than 20 minutes. The view of the winery, however, is amazing. There are some outdoor seatings you can just sit and relax.

Beautiful property, charming winery, excellent tour

By alinoel |

We visited in July on a Friday and went on the first Pinzgauer Vineyard Excursion tour at 11:30 AM. We had an amazing and memorable time! This winery is beyond beautiful, on the side of a mountain, incredible views, and it's just a huge property with such interesting history. You will learn all about it on the tour as you go up the mountain in the vehicle. It's a bumpy ride, but it's beautiful. We sampled 4 wines, I think, maybe 5. We purchased 3 of the wines we tried, a white and two reds. Our guide took extra time so we could take photos and ask questions. We got to sip wine in the vineyards and learn all about the grapes and the family. The last stop was walking through their cave that was so neat! So much wine in barrels in this cool cave. It was outstanding! After the tour, we visited the shop and relaxed on the patio. We purchased wine by the glass there and just enjoyed the view. You can bring food and there are picnic tables, a pond, geese, it's just all so welcoming and friendly. We visited 5 other wineries and this was BY FAR the most lovely and wonderful tour and atmosphere. We have ordered Gundlach Bundschu wine from our local wine shop and will enjoy it for years to come. I can't recommend this place enough.

Great spot

By martycornell |

About 15 minutes from Sonoma Square. Wonderful outdoor patio. Cheese, sausage, and wine to buy. Beautiful pond. Music festivals some summer weekends ($45).

Great experience with a lot of information about winemaking

By 809lukash |

We booked this tour because it was possible to do it over the Internet and we wanted to visit a winery in either Napa or Sonoma valley.
We got a very positive surprise by the tour, it was hosted by a member of the owner family and he was really into it. It was really fun driving around the vineyards and get so much information about the graphs, how they are grown and what is important. Most tours we did visit so far show the cellar which is interesting but you don't see too much.
If you are interested in the process from the beginning this is definitely a great tour.
The wines we enjoyed were also interesting and quite special. We got most of them during the tour which was also fun and enjoyable.
We tasted the final vintage in their cave together with the wine barrels.
Unfortunately they don't ship to Europe so we could not really buy any.
We can really highly recommend the tour as it is the best wine tour we did have so far.
Just the final wine tasting could have been a bit longer and it would have been nice to compare the wines at the end next to each other.

Wine tasting experience was meh. Might as well buy your own wine and sit in your backyard.

By N C |

We opted for only the wine tasting 'experience'. For $50 they gave a brief history of founder then gave wine samples and described their flavor to us? They simply read the bouquet flavors printed on their pamphlet on the table. You won't learn anything from this wine tasting. No insight into wine making or glimpse of any of their facilities such as their wine cellar 100 feet away or even glimpse of their vineyards. Instead just an insulting view of shrubs and a grassy field in the distance during your $50 wine sampling! It was clear that this company is too big and were going out of their way to give you the bare minimum experience since you were paying the bare minimum of $50. We couldn't get out of there quick enough. Not sure how they get such high reviews from people? It must be because they did not choose the tasting only and instead paid the extra $25 for the tour too. Do not waste your time and money on the tasting only.

We went to another winery in Napa and it was about the same price as the tasting only at the Sonoma winery but they included a full tour. We were welcomed with open arms learned and stories and all kinds of things including a wonderful tour of their family vineyard and of their large underground wine cellar. Felt like we were Italy and we didn't want to leave.

The Cave tour is totally worth it. We love it.

By carincher |

We loved it! We were checking reviews from different wineries since we only had time to go to one. We selected this one because the pictures taken from tourists were beautiful, it is located on a hill, so you get a very nice view of all the fields. The place is gorgeous, very well maintained, different areas to sit so you don't feel crowded with other people.
This is one of the very few that have a cave underground so we were super interested on that tour as well. The tour itself was very nice, lot of history and information on how they do the whole process and the sustainable methods they use. Charlie was our guide and he was super friendly and fun. The tasting during the tour was super nice, the different wines we tried were awesome and it was a generous pour. He had a bottle of each wine for our group, we were like 12, and he kept refilling until each bottle was over. In total there were 5 wines tasted. After the tour we stayed more for another round of wine with the cheese table to enjoy the view and the place. It is really worth it.

Disappointing Experience

By fscott22 |

As a wine enthusiast and frequent visitor to Sonoma's renowned wineries, I was excited to embark on a tour at Gun-Bun. However, my experience left much to be desired.

Let me start by acknowledging the positives: the tour itself was interesting, and I appreciated the opportunity to explore the man-made cave on the premises. The length of the tour was adequate, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the winemaking process and their own family history.

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm waned when it came to the pricing and overall ambiance of the winery. While I understand that quality comes at a cost, I couldn't help but feel that the prices were disproportionately high compared to the value offered. This sentiment was echoed by others in my tour group, suggesting that this may be a common concern among visitors.

Moreover, I found the demeanor of our tour guide to be somewhat off-putting. Instead of fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, it seemed as though the guide was solely focused on impressing a specific demographic, particularly the middle-aged crowd. This approach may have inadvertently alienated other guests, detracting from the overall experience. Additionally I was with a pregnant friend, who was required to pay full price for the tour even though she never drank. They were not accommodating to say the least.

We won't be back.

A Must-Visit Gem in Sonoma!

By Liz S |

Gundlach Bundschu was hands down our favorite winery during our Sonoma trip! With its beautiful view, festive outdoor tables and dog-friendly environment, it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy all their delicious wines. Our server, Shannon, was very knowledgeable and made our experience one to remember! We can’t wait to return!

Fabulous wine

By Sandy B |

Been drinking GB wines for over 30 years. Wish I had more time to spend here. No time for a tour but did a tasting. Their wines are fantastic. Friendly bartender.

Lovely patio and good wine!

By LoveToTravel524 |

We really like this winery. This was our 3rd visit (previously 2010 and 2015). We felt Covid safe on their lovely patio and the hostesses were very friendly. The tasting fee was $30 per person. We are on a quick 3 night Sonoma getaway (staying at the Best Western in downtown Sonoma) and also enjoyed visits to Buena Vista and Benzinger.

Great atmosphere

By Samantha H |

I googled “Sonoma glasses of wine” and this came up in the top 10. My husband and I just wanted a glass of wine, not a tasting. This place was so charming. We got a bottle of Chardonnay and it was really good. We sat under an olive tree in the shade. This place fit the bill.

Great as always

Fantastic family owned winery

After a long drive into Napa, this was like an oasis. The wine was terrific and the staff was friendly and solicitous. I could have spent the whole day out on their beautiful patio.

Do the wine cave tour

By jjrugs88 |

We did the wine cave tour. It was great! Rob, our tour guide, is part of the Bundschu family that started the winery. He was so incredibly informative, giving us great history and insight. He answered everyone’s questions. It was a great experience!

Reasonable Wine Tasting in Pleasant Setting

Nice Murals, Nice Picnic Grounds and Wine Tasting - Gundlach Bundschau Winery

By mini |

We went to Gundlach Bundschau Winery. It was started in 1870 and is the 64th winery started in California. The grounds of this winery are very nice. There is picnic areas, murals, and hiking trails. There is also a nice water view. They also do events.

We enjoyed wine tasting at this historic winery. There is also a gift store.

Staff is very nice.

Great wine and cave tour.

By S F |

Outstanding cave and wine tasting tour. The cave tour was so fun and extremely informative. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and entertaining. We learned a great deal of vineyard history and agriculture. The property is beautiful. The wine is so delicious. A large number of grape varieties. We highly recommend this stop.

A must visit in Sonoma

By Brad T |

We visited a few wineries on a bike tour. We liked these wines best and had a hard time deciding which ones to take home as we didn't want to ship for add another piece of luggage. Staff was was knowledgeable and helpful. The property if very nice.

This was an overall great wine tasting experience!

By JJJ2007 |

We visited Gundlach Bundschu last week after hitting a couple of other wineries first. This was by far our favorite for a couple of reasons. First it was lively and entertaining and festive. Secondly, the wines were really great. Next, we had GREAT service; very attentive and friendly AND knowlegeable. This was our favorite stop of the day. Bought some fun items in the gift area and joined the Wine Club!

Wine Cave Tour!

By Emma M |

This is one of the few places offering tours currently due to COVID. We provided proof of vaccination for our wine cave tour. It was amazing! Our guide was a part of the Bundschu family and gave us great information on the history of the winery as well as the wine making process. Highly recommend!

One of Sonoma's Best! - Great Wines & Picnic Spot, Don't Miss It!

By hollisJ_dr |

One of the oldest and most unique wineries in Sonoma Valley. Beautiful grounds, great Valley views, cozy tasting room in the "cave" with many gift & picnic items, and friendly staff. Luscious wines -- we're partial to their Reisling and the Merlot, but all are excellent. Tastings, public tours, & cave tours available. Great place to picnic, chill out, savor good wine, take panaromic pictures of the Valley, & hear live music if an event is going. Get on the mailing list to attend one of their many music events throughout the year. Five minutes from the historic Sonoma Plaza. We take all our out-of-state visitors here! Check it out.

Gun Bun Fun

By Megan L |

I can’t say enough about how much I love Gundlach Bundschu! We live on the east coast, but became members of the wine club a few years ago for the: amazing wine (we’ve loved every bottle), the wonderful and knowledgeable staff, and the amazing property (when we get to visit).

"Staff that care and are glad that you're there!"

By Cindy G |

I recently joined the wine club after visiting many times - largely because the staff team genuinely cares about your experience. I took a friend with me whose dad was a member of the Bacchus Club in the 50's and 60's. Our server took her over to a framed wall hanging that shows all of the wine bottle labels they've made. My friend recognized the label that was on a bottle her dad purchased for her for her 21st birthday. She opened it for her 30th birthday. She had forgotten all about it and it was a touching moment for her.

The wines are spectacular. The tasting is generous, and the small bites and picnic snacks are yummy. The grounds are amazing with so many group or intimate spaces to sit and taste, walk around, or bicycle. I've yet to take the cave tour and look forward to doing that soon. I love taking my friends there - it's a really great time every time I go!

Attended a wedding here- lovely setting

By ellen b. |

What a pretty place to have a wedding- we walked through their caves to get to the wedding site- beautiful vineyard views- cocktails by a small lake then back to the barn for the reception- lovely setting and nice tasting room and gift shop- more interesting mdse. than most wineries- very friendly staff there too. OH & great wines- really like their rose.

This winery and vineyard is quite attractive, aesthetically. The hosts were attentive and knowledgeable about the wine made on the estate and the wine we sampled, both white and red, was superb

A must go to winery when you are in Sonoma!

By Lisa I |

LOVE this place. The service was amazing, very friendly staff, great view and the rose was delicious. We can't wait to come back!

My favorite winery in Sonoma!

By TheLevitz |

We visited 4 wineries today, and this was by far my favorite. The view from the patio was very relaxing, and our server was awesome. The wines were great, the prices were reasonable, we signed up for the wine club too. I definitely plan on coming back next time I’m in the area.

Reserve the private area (Block 19) for your group!

By Brian G |

I worked with Katherine on Gundlach Bundschu's hospitality team to reserve a space last month (July 2021) for my group (of 10 people) in the private area of the vineyard, on Block 19. It was a really special, wonderful experience-- I cannot recommend it more highly. At first, my group was going to be up in the public area (in the Arbor Bar), but then the space at Block 19 opened up.

My group was originally scheduled to sit outdoors, in front of the Block 19 vineyard (which would've been just fine), but the house/bungalow in back was available (and it was a warm day out), so without even asking, Katherine set up my group to relax inside the house.

Our wine educator, Murray, went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make the experience for my group so memorable. Even though I had reserved bottle service for the group, Murray went ahead and setup a formal tasting for our first glass pour. He thoroughly explained the wines to us, and stood by and talked with my group for the remainder of the afternoon, until we closed up. My group lucked out because the rear house/bungalow was available (which is very lovely, I do recommend booking, if available) but even the area in front, facing the Block 19 vineyard, is also very picturesque as well.

Our wine educator, Murray, only entered the wine business ~4 years prior, so he doesn't come from an extensive wine background, but, for this reason, he goes to great lengths to patiently explain the wines in ways that are so approachable and understandable to normal laypeople, who aren't wine experts. My group really, really appreciated this, as it really added a special, intimate touch to the entire experience. Murray does all this, with such professionalism and tact.

In general, it can be tough to find spaces in wine country that can accommodate group sizes that are larger than 4-6 people. If you are looking to host a larger-sized group, I very highly recommend looking into booking at the private area at Gundlach Bundschu (Block 19), either facing the vineyard or reserving for the entire house/bungalow. It's a real treat to work with Katherine in finalizing the reservation. All around a very, very pleasant experience.

Family owned after all this time

By Emily P |

We came across this winery by mistake. It was one of the best mistakes we ever made. This is the second oldest winery in the area. The oldest one beat them by six months! After six generations they are still family owned. The grounds here are absolutely beautiful and well kept. Our wine host, Win, was very knowledgeable on the wines he served us. He had a story about each one and gave us the history on the vineyard. Usually I only like a few wines on the tasting flight, although here I liked all of them. It made a difficult discussion on which ones to ship home.

Nice people, not our favorite wines

By Muppet_Boyz |

Cool history and nice shop, but just didn't hit our pallet preferences. The 6-wheel Swiss-all terrain vehicle tour looked great, but wasn't open yet.

9to5explorer: 4* beautiful property, good wine, little too impersonal

By 9to5explorer |

Firstly, really enjoyed calling in here. Made it a destination because I've recently discovered Gewurztraminer, and its on the Gun Bun wine list. And had a tasting of just this (which thankfully they didn't charge the tasting fee for.) Bought a couple of bottles too. But it was hard work. Intimate this place isn't. Found myself bustling at the crowded bar and waiting for a while to get my order. Still glad we called in at it is a beautiful setting and nice gardens! But we fiund smaller better value and friendlier tastings across Sonoma.

Excellent winery

By emily w |

Excellent wine, fabulous location, and wonderful staff! My first visit I immediately signed up for the wine club and have not been disappointed!

My favorite winery

By Bob |

The servers are all very well versed about their wines. The charcuterie plate is excellent. Beautiful settings for tasting.

Best tasting experience with kiddos in tow

By Allison C |

We love going to GunBun for tastings. The picnic basket offerings were generous, the wine was delicious, and the hosts were charming and friendly. Our kids found a tree swing, a couple donkeys, and didn’t complain once— I couldn’t have asked for more.

Wine tasting in Sonoma

By Aapostolik |

Gundlach is always a go-to every time we come to Sonoma. It is the oldest family-owned winery in California. They have an excellent selection of wines; the setting at the vineyard is beautiful; don’t miss a tour of the cave!

Wow - we had fun!

By drmarkbg |

Wonderful tasting of wines, beautiful setting. Becky took great care of us. This is a must stop. Loved the Pinot and the Cab was quite good too. Looking forward to next visit.

Great destination by bike

By woodlandridge |

Friendly staff, great wine, nice outdoor seating and wine tasting area. It was just a fun, unpretentious winery and beautiful vineyard. A favorite for us.

Highly recommend a visit and cave tour.

By ashley1508 |

A must visit while in wine country. We did a cave and winery tour. Our guide Kent was the best. He was so knowledgeable and personable. The winery is a 6th generation winery. The history is crazy and the wine even better. First time that I have been to a winery where they had reds and whites that were both top notch. I joined the wine club I loved it so much. The caves are the coolest, literally.

Not friendly

By janicecjohnson |

Of the wineries we visited, this was the most rigid and unfriendly. We arrived early, right at opening at 11. The tasting room doors were propped open, so we walked in. Big mistake, I guess. The lady at the bar told us rather rudely that they were not open yet. I thought she was going to vault over the bar and shove me and my elderly mother out of the door. Geez! Get over yourselves. The place was not that special. We did get a tasting, and thankfully we were served by another pourer. The wine was not that special either. Not going back!

Awesome tasting room

By June K |

We picked out and got a spirited, fun tasting here. This is the oldest family fun winery and they take pride in giving you a sense of family in their tasting room. The wine, both whites and reds, is premium. Add the fun of learning how to remember the winery name, its a winner.

Lovely spot

By reenamm |

We had a beautiful time here! I'd recommend making a reservation for tastings, though you can still get a bottle and relax.
Beautiful setting and chill atmosphere. The wines were also really nice. We prefer sweeter whites so of course we ordered their gewurztraminer and actually were surprised..it wasn't super sweet and had a crisp freshness! We also purchased a bottle of delicious cab that we enjoyed over Thanksgiving.

Nice winery and extremely knowledgeable staff

By Robert W |

We had a very nice histortical and cultural exchange with our host Gary - he has done an OUTSTANDING job..... discussing Asian (Taiwan), European ((Austria) and US wine culture.

Gundlach Bundschu has a very interesting history and worth to explore.

Vino was superb.

Not sure if I will every ride a Pinzgauer here as this reminds my at the time of my mandatory army service in Austrian where we used to drive (and could not ruin) these cars.

Just a pity that there is only limited food at the 'Donkey' bar..... and not even a coffee (but we came for the vino.... hence still satisfied).

Beautiful visit to a unique, family-run winery

By Queldel |

At this winery, you can not only have a delicious and varied wine-tasting, but also have a beautiful tour of a very special winery and vineyards, at the oldest family-run winery in California. Highly recommend!!

Do NOT miss this winery!

By J K |

Full disclosure: I'm a long-time club member, but don't often get up to the winery to spend quality time there...until recently. I had two friends in town who had never been to Gundlach Bundschu, and I hadn't been in the newly designated Bacchus Hideaway. We thoroughly enjoyed the bottle service and snacks in a shady spot staring out at the vineyards and had a fabulous day. Tucker, our server, was fantastic--very engaging, personable, and attentive. I always appreciate the laid-back vibe at Gun Bun and all of the staff members are knowledgeable and friendly. The winery is well-suited for a variety of experiences, whether you want to learn about wine, tour the property, or just relax and chill. AND there's great wine at appropriate price points. I think it being family-run for its entire history really shows through in everything they do.

Oh Yes!

By John P |

Superb wines delivered by knowledgeable, friendly staff with chilled decor.

Stroll around and enjoy. This is a relaxing and welcoming place to lose an afternoon.

What's a Pinzgauer? Ride One!

By DebbieK |

The Pinzgauer Tour was phenomenal. Our guide was Cat and she was extremely knowledgeable and a delightful guide. We learned so much about the vineyard: the grapes, the wine-making process and we tasted delicious wines along the route. Truly, this was a tour worth taking. BTW, a pinzgauer is a Swiss Army transport vehicle. It's perfect for riding through the vineyard. You'll have a great time.

Amazing venue, great wine, don't miss

By betIhavebeenthere |

This place is terrific, tastings available inside or on patio. You can do cave tours (scheduled) or just taste. Great selection of branded clothing in addition to amazing wine at various price points. Try the vintage reserve and age a few years.

I have been here a few times over the years and believe Gary C. may be one best tasting room employees they have. He made our experience by keeping it casual and fun and by incorporating interesting stories about the wine, winery and California into the experience. He is amazing at his job.

Recommend you make an appointment, but not required. They also allow you to just purchase a bottle and relax on the grounds. Definitely a must try!

A winery with great views and a nice picnic area

By Kevin T |

The wines here did not knock our socks off, but they had a nice tasting room with a nice retail area. There were also a couple different area to have a picnic overlooking the Sonoma valley.

Gun Bun Fun and Amazing Wine

By Melinda B |

It was a long anticipated 50th birthday trip for a few friends and family and we had the most amazing time. I was already a Gun Bun fan but had never been to the winery and assured my travel mates they would love it too. Now most of us are members, and thanks to Norah, we’re chanting for the purple velvet, cocoa dusted herbal magic that is your Merlot. Who knew!?

Seriously, the place is amazing, the vibes are always good and the wine is tasty without pretension. Thanks!

Wine Cave Tour & Tasting in Sonoma

By Phantastic4u |

Enjoyed the 90 minute Cave Tour & Tasting at Gundlach Bundschu Winery. The tour was enjoyable and neat way to hear about wines and do a wine tasting in the caves.

This was my second visit here throughout the years, the wines that we tasted during this particular visit were more acidic -- than the smoother wines that we enjoyed in the past.

Overall, it was a good experience.

kudos

By Lynnbrownstone |

What a welcoming, energetic yet relaxing winery...Their white and red wines don't disappoint, so kudos...Customer service is friendly from the moment we arrived to John, who hosted our tasting.

Pinzgauer thrill ride into the vineyards

By AlexiVenice |

Rob Bundschu drove a party of six of us through the vineyards in his family's Pinzgauer. an open air jeep style utility vehicle with a covered roof. He was an excellent tour guide, regaling us with his family history and fun stories about his childhood in the family-owned vineyard. I was researching some details for my third book, "Victus," and Rob was especially courteous about pointing out a few key factoids for me. He is a truly gracious host and there was much to learn about grape growing and wine making on his family's estate. The outdoor tour was capped off by a tasting in their newly designed cave space. One of the best tastings we've been on in 25 years of tasting. Thanks, Rob!

My favorite Sonoma winery!

By Michelle C |

The bike ride here from downtown Sonoma is fabulous. Nice views, pretty grounds. They technically open at 11am but we got there ten mins early and they served us. We were taken care of immediately and staff was very kind and knowledgeable. $20 tasting EACH but they had the better tasting wines IMO.

Deliciously Fun!

By 7839 |

Fun! Informative! Beautiful! Delicious!
My husband and I had a wonderful experience exploring the vineyards and cave. The tastings were excellent! So good that we joined the Wine Club.

Friendly, cool, creative, delicious

By JenBraun |

This place is a must if you like wine, music, art, history, friendly service, and a lack of pretension. Elaine took care of us today at Gundlach Bundschu, and she was excellent: knowledgeable, bubbly, easy to talk to, and helpful. We will make a special point to come back here on out next trip to the Bay Area. You should too!

Beautiful View and Fun Winery!

By MadeleineCharlotteNC |

This is a beautiful winery and the staff is very knowledgeable about the wine selections.
The atmosphere was very inviting and the people were super friendly!

Such a cool winery with history

By Peter Ossmann |

In this part of California you have almost 100 different wineries you can visit but my wife chose this one because of the history and stories - it is the longest running, family owned winery! And the wine is amazing. John, our tour guide, did a great job leading us through the caves and sampling the different wine types along the way. They are a certified organic winery too (if that matters to you). Plan for almost 2 hours and quite a bit of great wine sipping throughout.

Superb Experience

By Lindsay W |

Visited this winery on a low-key bachelorette weekend in June. The 6 of us enjoyed a 5-course tasting at a picnic table on the breezy patio with a view of the lake. Our server was very knowledgable without making us feel at all out-of-place for not being wine experts ourselves. After the tasting, we enjoyed walking around the scenic gardens and grounds.

Worth the time

By Rachel V |

Interesting family history for this generational vineyard. Our host, Nora, was knowledgeable and humorous and answered all our questions.

Good wine, fun times

By Alice T |

I have been coming here for many years now and they never disappoint. The wines are tasty, reasonably priced and the staff are always welcoming.
I like the wines so much I signed up for membership again. I’m looking forward to going back for another tasting soon.

Beautiful Grounds, Enjoyable Experience

By DwillsyDeb |

Our group of 10 had a reservation for a tasting and after some confusion about where we needed to be, we were escorted to the Library and met our wine host. She shared lots of history about the winery. Our $50 tasting included a selection of cheeses, olives, nuts and bread sticks and 5 Estate wines. Our host was very enthusiastic and informative. A very nice experience, just not over the top enough for 5 stars.

Mom's Day Out

By Allison F |

We had a wonderful Rhinefarm tasting last Sunday with myself and two other moms who were able to escape for a few hours and enjoy some delicious wine! The staff are all wonderful and the setting is so peaceful. We will definitely be back!

Friendly staff

By ggdeluz |

Started our Sonoma Valley wine tour here. Every member of the staff was friendly and welcoming. We were encouraged to walk around the grounds and see the beautiful views from the hills. The tasting room staff was very knowledgeable both about the wines and the history of the family. Old trucks and farm equipment are painted and displayed. Wines were nice. I don't comment on them specifically because wine tastes are so individual.

Exceptional hospitality creates memorable experience

By Nadine M |

We hosted a cave tour the day following our daughter's wedding in Sonoma. The staff's hospitality, and especially Brooke's attention to detail, made it memorable for our guests. We had a relaxed and informative tour with tastings, and guests enjoyed visiting over lunch on the patio. We presented our daughter and son-in-law with a wine club membership for their wedding gift, and they have made several return visits where they report being treated like VIPs.
The wine, vineyards, tasting room and everything about Gun Bun are first rate.

Always delightful!

By SugarlandD |

My husband and I go to Napa every other year and we always love visiting this winery in Sonoma. Great View, wonderful wine and knowledgeable staff.

Wine tasting by a lake

By Shelby L |

One of the most beautiful wine tasting experiences I have had. We sat outside next to the lake and drank some amazing wine. We decided to share a tasting since we had gone to many different places earlier in the day. Our waitress was extremely nice. She got a little sidetracked and to make up for it, she allowed us to try a few other wines that were not on the list. My favorite is Tempranillo. It is made from Spanish grapes and was amazing. We bought a bottle to save for later. Highly recommend visiting here if you find yourself in Sonoma. I would definitely go back. You can bring some food to snack on and have a picnic or get some cheese and crackers. We just ate lunch or else would have definitely done so.
Make sure to make a reservation!

Perhaps the higher cost options would have been better?

By RogerBerlind |

This was the first winery my wife and I visited in Sonoma. Not having anything to compare it to, we thought the experience was fine. The tasting room is kind of like a mix between a bar and a general store since they are selling t-shirts and other promotional merchandise. We had signed up for the entry-level Historic Winery Tasting which only costs $20. We received 5 flights of drinkable but bland wine. Our server was nice enough, but we realized after visiting other wineries that many of them give you much more personalized attention and time; that being said, they also charge $40 or more and are obviously giving more attention because they hope you'll signup for their wine clubs. Re-reading some reviews of the Grundlach Bundschu website, I suspect we would have been better off doing one of the higher-level tastings or tours. A friend did say that he visited recently with his family and enjoyed his visit.

Beautiful spring day at the vineyard

By Marty O |

We love this place! The views are so peaceful and gorgeous; it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon sampling delicious wines. We love their Pinot noir, gevurtzraminer, and rose most of all. The staff are super knowledgeable and just fun to hang out with too!

Interesting history

By mssky29 |

Enjoyed this Vineyard it was really interesting history of the family , having been to other vineyards before this one I just rated this one as good as I didn't love how the tour was done. The wine however was very good.

Very approachable. Nice merchandise. Solid wines.

By mrapaport |

Beautiful grounds. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was really cool. A cavelike environment. The wines were really nice and the internal shop had some unique and interesting items that made for a really relaxing visit. Outside grounds were really beautiful.

Great visit!

By Kathy H |

Arrived around 11 for a pingszauer tour and found the staff very friendly and welcoming. We had an excellent tour by one of the owners, Rob. It was fascinating to hear the family history, the views were amazing and the weather glorious. We were pleasantly surprised at how smooth and flavorful the wines were. I especially enjoyed the 2013 Zinfandel. I would highly recommend this winery. Also, the property was beautiful with plenty of picnic tables and chairs overlooking the lake. Was told by one of the staff that plenty of people bring their lunch and picnic on their grounds

Favourite Winery

By fancy_ams |

This was my favorite winery from my Sonoma/Napa day trip. Great views, great service, great wine. They have $20 wine flights (can't beat that). Will come back for a tour.

Perfect Sonoma winery tour

By Irene S |

I had the pleasure of visiting here recently, the tour was selected and arranged by my son who lives in Silicon Valley. He has excellent taste which was proven once again. The grounds, though no huge, were lovely. Two outdoor restroom facilities are always a good thing. The tour inside the caves was informative with plenty (but not too much) wine sampled. Our guide was lovely, charming and knowledgeable and the wine making process and how G-B does things. She also covered the affect of the awful fires that devastated the are October 2017. Fortunately they only had minimal damage. The gift shop and patio area are great as well.

Highly recommended for a lovely way to spend a hour or two in Sonoma.

Great history, lots of possible experiences, wines are good but not the best

By Katherine F |

We visited GB today for the first time in many years. They have a great variety of experiences available and a nice picnic area with view (beware though during harvest the bees are out in force and you cannot really do a picnic). This is an old winery and the history is cool. Wines are just solid, not outstanding, but they do offer some unusual varietals for this area, including a dry Gewurtztraminer and a Tempranillo.

Lovely

By Ts_Travel_Adventures |

Had a lovely tasting today. Great staff. Friendly. Knowledgeable. Clearly they all enjoy what they do. Nice gift shop. Pretty grounds to wander or picnic.

Historically impressive, courtyard tasting yielded pleasant experience

By Lisa T |

The wines aren't extraordinary but there is something to be said for the setting and the historical importance of the 6th generation establishment. Ask questions and you might find yourself impressed by the forward thinking technology that installed solar technology for irrigation. Lovely setting. We weren't hungry, so we opted for the almonds which turned out to be a lovely pairing. What surprised us: two Chardonnay/Pinot noir enthusiasts preferred the rose!

They should rename it “Fun Bun!”

By Banksgirl4 |

This winery is by far our favorite in the area. It’s not stuffy or formal, and you can tell the Bundschus have a love of rock n roll. Skip the bar tasting and go directly to the cave or pinzgauer tour. Stay for some live music. The wine is delicious, an excellent value, and it’s just a lot of fun.

Charming Winery in Sonoma

By Megan T |

Loved our experience at Gundlach Bundschu! The wines were excellent and the tasting experience was a treat. Our server, Gary, did an amazing job of using the wines to tell the story of the winery and the family that owns it. The grounds of the winery are beautiful and the outdoor seating area is lovely. Don't miss this winery if you are in Sonoma.

Family birthday at Gun-Bun Rhine farm!

By Diane C |

Family birthday gathering was amazing! Thanks to the staff and, of course, the delicious wines and gorgeous venue, everyone had a wonderful time!

Fine wines with fun friends

By Natalie H |

We really enjoyed tasting a flight of fine wines out on the patio on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Kevin did a great job explaining each wine and answering our questions. We also appreciate that he gave us time to enjoy each wine and we didn’t feel rushed.

Best tasting ever!

By Michael B |

I have been to Napa several times plus other wine vacation destinations. I have taken part in many tastings and tours. This was one of the most fun, relaxing and enjoyable tastings i have ever participated in. Kathleen was our host and she was welcoming and friendly right from the start. She took us through the history of GUN BUN and we sat down for the food pairing and tasting, WHAT FUN! Our fellow tasters were a blast and we bonded from the first glass! Thank you to Kathleen and the team for making us feel special and for the amazing VINO!

Felt welcome, even though it was busy

By Rebecca C |

Kate made us feel welcome on our tour. The joint was jumping, but we still felt we got a friendly, relaxed experience and learned a lot about the winery and some history of the area as well. I was afraid that it would be too crazy, but it was actually a really fun tour and I would do it again!

Gorgeous!

By momdzall |

Absolutely gorgeous views! Many outdoor areas to walk around and explore. Big gift shop. Had the wine flight, which was a nice sampling. Snacks majorly overpriced! Nice picnic tables to sit & enjoy the wine.

Beautiful and historic tasting room, wines just ok

By tanddGaithersburg_MD |

We didn't have reservations but they accommodated us. Sylvia gave us extra pours for my husbands birthday and told us the history of the winery. However the wines were disappointing. We were surprised as so many rated the wines as excellent.

Great outdoor patio and wonderful wine!

By Anish S |

My family and I made this our first stop from SF to Napa. The parking is just a dirt area, which lowered our expectations of the vineyard. We opted for just wine tasting so skipped on tours. We got there around 3:30ish and were lucky enough to get a table outside on the patio. However, the property was closing early due to an event. While the event is understandable, I wish someone had told us that when we made the reservation - or at least on their site. It looked like there were multiple locations for wine tasting but we didn't venture past the patio.
All of us opted for wine tasting and they were very generous with their pours. Additionally, they were willing to re-pour certain wines if you liked them more than later ones coming up.
The cab was good as well - I liked it as good table wine and reasonable. I did not sign up for wine club but will be looking to buy the wine for casual drinking.

The patio area is also wonderfully set up - it faces their pond and their fields, which makes for wonderful scenery.

Best Total Vineyard Experience of our Trip

By VinnieG628 |

I was hesitant to go to "Gun Bun" having never heard of their wines. I know of a few gewurztraminers and Reislings that we like but assumed a German family vineyard was not going to impress when it came to the Reds, especially Cab...but decided to give it a try based on TA reviews and the desire to have some diversity on our Napa Valley lineup.

It proved to be a great decision as this really was a very different experience. We took the vineyard tour in their Pinzauer Austrian Military Vehicle and were surprised to find we would be doing so with founder's great-grandson Rob. Rob was a great tour guide and it was very cool hearing his account of the family history and all the different phases that they went through during the last 140-ish years. He was very knowledgable and took us all around the vineyard showing us the different varieties of grapes and providing an education on wine production.

We experienced several outstanding wines including a great Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet at various stops throughout the vineyard and concluded with a great reserve Cab (brought some home) in their tasting room after passing through their wine cave.

With over 300 wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms in the valley, choosing where to go can be daunting. During a short three days I tried to visit a variety of places that each offered something different and this was a great choice for us in Sonoma. If you don't feel you can handle the bumps, dust and adventure of the full Vineyard tour (highly recommended) the tasting room is worth a visit. It's casual, less expensive than many others and features some surprisingly good wines from one of the oldest, family run vineyards in California.

Historic winery, book a private tasting instead of tasting room

By Sarah S |

I live in Sonoma and hadn't been to GunBun in a while, so I jumped on the chance to participate in their new GunBun Underground tasting. The experience, which is a mere $40, started with a splash of their famous Gewürztraminer in the tasting room, which is chock full of memorabilia, winery history, and a gift shop that has some of the best winery swag I've see (very hip, think hipster Tahoe).

Zebi was our host. He's a knowledgeable guy who chose to work at the winery because of his love for their red wines. He guided us into the caves, sharing the history of the winery (it is the 2nd oldest in the state!). We stepped into a beautiful tasting space, in the heart of the caves. The space has the capacity for 16 people, making it an intimate experience even in a group setting. You really feel special in this space - the setting is just lovely.

Zebi guided us through a tasting of five red wines - a Merlot, Cab Franc and three Cab Sauvs. The highlights were the final two wines - their famed reserve wines, with curated artwork created by a notable artist for the labels. They retail for over $100.

The tasting was paired with a selection of local charcuterie and cheese.

When we left, we checked out the new Donkey Bar, a cool lounge area outside (with heaters) where they serve wine by the glass and bottle, and cold brew coffee.

If you're visiting, I suggest booking a tour or special tasting, like the GunBun Underground - the price point is great for what you get and you can avoid the chaos of the tasting room, which is extremely popular and very busy. The $40 is worth it!!

Worth a visit

By Rich H |

Very nice small family owned winery. The person pouring our tasting was very nice & knowledgable of wine making & the history of this winery.

The cave tour!

By ams855 |

We did the cave tour, highly recommend! We learned so much information and history and got to sample 7 wines. Such a fun time, we would definitely do it again!

Great winery

By DerelN |

Enjoyed the tasting experience at Gundlach Bundschu. Great tasting wines that will stand the test of time. Informative staff tells the stories of the wines.

Love the history!

By Patti A |

This vineyard is one of the earliest in the valley and the only one that has continued to be in the same family for I think it is 6 generations. Nice shop where wine tastings were held. Offers a cave tasting though we didn't try that one. Wines were lovely.

Saved the best for last - Pinz Tour and Wine Tasting

By TooMuch2Do |

Our final adventure in Sonoma was a tour at Gundlach Bundschu winery in a Pinz, a Swiss Army transport vehicle with upholstered seats. We checked in at the entrance waiting for our guide and a couple who joined us. Our guide, Nora, was funny and well-versed in the family history of the winery and provide details on how they grow grapes and make wine sustainably. We loved that they grow grapes and make wine on site. At each stop, we got a different pour, including charcuterie in a shaded structure. Our last pour was at the gift shop where others on the tour picked up their wine club delivery. We enjoyed the wine so much that we joined the club as well. During the next year, with each sip, we can relive memories of a memorable Sonoma winery.

Good setting, felt commercial

By Kustakusta |

This place came highly recommended to us. While perhaps to someone who is only interested in trying the wine and getting information about the wine might have really enjoyed this place, my group wanted a little bit more of an intimate, personal experience which we did not feel there. It kind of felt like come in, get your tasting, receive some info, pay, and get out. If that's your style and you don't want too much extra then this is your place, but I personally was not a tremendous fan.

Cave & Vineyard Tour

By Nitin K |

Great time learning about the history of the winery from a member of the GunBunn family! Walking through the cave and then vineyard while hearing about the winemaking process and family -owned business was fascinating (and the wines are delicious). Everyone told us we had to visit and we were not disappointed!

We absolutely love GunBun!

By Kristen E |

The vistas are gorgeous, the wine delicious, and the staff incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.

And the best part? They have awesome concerts and events on their property. Indie bands and movie nights make them unique for wineries in the area and keeps us going back time and time again.

Their winery tour is also a must! They take you out to see the beautiful, sprawling vineyard on an old Swiss Army transport vehicle and the views, history (and wine, of course!) are divine.

Delicious wine, friendly staff

By TerraLupin |

Eight of us (4 adults, 4 kids ages 6-12) came here in the middle of the week. The staff (especially Sylvia) were helpful, friendly and kind. We loved hearing about the history of the winery while sampling their wine. Super glad we stopped by.

Very entertaining cave tour with wine tasting

By PJMS_11 |

Our family of four recently joined another family of four for a cave tour and wine tasting. For $40 for wine drinkers and $20 for those under 21 (the regular tasting fee in the more crowded tasting room is $10), we received a guided tour of their caves and vineyard, learned all about the history of California's oldest continuously- family- owned winery, and tasted 6 wines in a tour group that numbered around 16. Our tour guide, Cat, was knowledgeable and funny, and willing to answer any and all questions. The wines were all very good. We would definitely recommend this experience.

Very nice winery.

By Joanna V |

This is a very pretty location, in close proximity to the cute town of Sonoma. We biked there, and enjoyed the little ride, it's not too far. There's a lot of history to this vineyard, which is interesting. Their wines weren't our favorite, but that's just a matter of taste. We still really enjoyed our visit. There's a beautiful courtyard where seated tastings are available (reservations needed), and you can buy bread, olives and olive oil (local!) that you could eat with your wine.

Relaxing visit

We scheduled an appointment for opening. We got there early and they told us we were welcome to roam around the grounds. It is really beautiful and we enjoyed the walk. Our tasting was scheduled for 11. Our server told us the history of the winery and was very informative. The tasting room filled up quickly with walk ins. I don't know that our experience was any different than the folks who did not have an appointment. We liked the wines. We enjoyed the tasting. This was the only place we visited that was crowded. After our tasting we had a picnic lunch on the grounds. Recommend visiting but since it does get crowded (and gift shop in tasting room) you would probably want to make an appointment.

Wine Caves a must to see!

We toured the wine caves with Cat as our guide. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining. This is the oldest family owned winery in the United States. The history behind it was so interesting- and the wine is outstanding. We joined the wine club as well as bought a couple bottles to enjoy while in California.

Amazing history

What an interesting place! Awesome history and amazing wine. Our tour guide was a little....cold. But that didn't take away much from how much we loved the vineyard and the experience. The caves are a must see, and we learned they can host weddings on site.

An Adventuresome Winery Tour

Maggie provided a history laddened tour of the Gun Bun property. What sets this winery apart is the traditions- 7 generations and they have managed to maintian their family values and instead of breaking up in warring tribes like so many wine families. Their Gveritzdeminer is excellent and recommended for Thanksgiving dinners. Excellent Roses, try the Tempernallio Rose.

GORGEOUS winery ... even on a rainy day!

We were there during a rare heavy rain period ... so instead of taking the Pinzgauer out for a tour of the grounds, we ended up on a walking tour (due to the possibility for erosion). It was still wonderful, even if the plan got detoured. We got an awesome walking tour through the caves, and then we were treated to an incredible view of the vineyards. The tasting was great - delicious wines, superb staff, wonderful history. Was a great tour!
