What a lovely experience we had. The tasting room is bright and spacious and all the outside seating options are a plus. We selected a spot with comfortable cushioned chairs and all the views. The wines were good and the food options were creative and delicious.

I just visited Halter Ranch while on a weekend getaway to Paso Robles... and loved it there! A few people had recommended it, and while it was a bit out of the way to drive to, it's an awesome winery to visit. The views are awesome, the wine is delicious, and there's lot of room to lounge outside and soak it all in. I absolutely want to go back the next time I'm in Paso - I'll just make sure to bring some food to have a picnic outside next time!

Really pleased with the decision to go here. Service was top notch. Really good wine tasting. And really enjoyed the burger I had for lunch.

what a gorgeous site. we have many times been to paseo wine tasting but never here. read somethings about their style and decided to try.
the nicest people in the world work there. fun to be there. the wines so good joined the club and bought some to take with.
Highly recommended.

If you can, go on the Weekday tour of their production facilities -- fascinating and architecturally mind-blowing. Grounds were some of the most beautiful to be seen in Paso. Wine tasting room is super luxe. I liked the wines in general. Limited and expensive munchies.

We have been to Halter Ranch twice in the last six months. We think they have the best blends at a decent value in Paso. It is the wine that we measure all of the other area wines we taste while visiting the area. For both quality and price point.

We were lucky enough to have arranged for a tour and tasting in advance at Halter Ranch Vineyard and I'm so glad we did. Brice was our guide and we learned so much that I sincerely and whole heartedly recommend you do the same. The ranch is just beautiful, the buildings are stunning in that they are covered with the stone taken right from the ground and we learned that the valley had actually been underwater eons ago and Brice was able to show us several stones that contained fossils of those long ago inhabitance. We had a very interesting tour of the winery, learned about the differences in how they make red and white wines and got to walk through their 'caves' where the magic happens. The tasting we did afterwards had two confirmed red wine drinkers buy a half case of white to be shipped back east - and trust me when I tell you that we are thoroughly enjoying our purchase. And thank you again Brice - it pairs perfectly with meat and cheese charcuterie.

The guys that work there really know their stuff. Even if you don't know anything about wine they make you feel very comfortable. They had red wines only and the cab was pretty good but my preference was the Malbec. Prices are a little on the higher side but worth getting for a special night out which we did for dinner that night. The drive is so nice also when the weather is good.

We booked lunch with wine tasting and couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon. The staff was friendly and attentive. Lunch (salmon salads and cheeseburgers) was delicious. And the wines in the Ranch flight were very good to one of the best we’ve ever tasted (2017 Ancestor).
The tasting room and lunch patios give guests a stunning view of vineyards, rolling hills and the Ancestor tree, an 800-year-old oak tree and namesake to the winery’s flagship wine.
The road up to the tasting room is short but includes a drive-by of an 1800s Victorian home, a photogenic wooden bridge, and train tracks that will soon be open for vineyard tours. Can’t wait to go back!

This was our second visit to the winery but first time at their new tasting room and it is spectacular! Floor to ceiling windows that overlook the vines and hillsides - just beautiful. The 5 wines we sampled were all excellent and we would have purchased any of them if we had room to take them with us on our travels. This winery is a must visit!

We stopped here for the live music and wood fired pizza paired with lunch. The pizza was great. I was the designated driver so I did not taste the wines, but my foul said they were ok to good. The views and setting are gorgeous. It is a large tasting room, but even so it was crowded. And there were lots of children which is not something we enjoy while wine tasting.

The winery was fun to visit and we spent some time there although I personally believe that the tastings are too pricey (but you might think differently about that).
What I do not like, however, is that I keep receiving emails from this winery although I never signed up for anything, I had only connected to the wifi during our stay. Despite me unsubscribing every time I receive an email I apparently am not removed from the newsletter distribution list. I emailed them separately and still receive emails about events or promotions.
I love and appreciate good wine, but not when it’s sold to me this way.

Definitely a beautiful winery. The tasting room was very nice, and the staff was fun and friendly, Sarah, T, and "Snarky" were great!!!!!! They have quite a variety of varietals, from sparkling through Bordeaux-style blends. They even make an amazing Port-styled wine!! And if you arrive early enough, you can even get a tour of their caves, where they age the wine!!

A wonderful winery at the end of a beautiful drive on Vineyard Road. We stayed at a B&B in West Templeton, and a drive down Vineyard Road with a destination of Halter Ranch was recommended to us by our hosts. We're so glad we took the trip. We bought several bottles of Halter Ranch wine and enjoyed a glass outside on their patio -- so peaceful and relaxing.

We did not have a reservation and arrived at about 11 AM. Staff was gracious and we were offered a talking on a beautiful patio overlooking the private air strip. We even got to see a few planes land. We ordered a beautiful charcuterie platter and enjoyed the Ranch Flight tasking. The wine, food, view and service were all perfect. Highly recommend a visit.

Friends and I did tastings here on the third day after opening the new tasting room, which hes wonderful views. The person doing the tastings was very knowledgeable and helped us understand the wines and winery, which none of us had been to before. The wines were very good, and we bought a rose and a cabernet to drink in the evening. We bought cheese and crackers there and enjoyed them with our wines and views. Overall it was an excellent way to spend a couple of hours in the beautiful west Paso wine area.

This place is visually spectacular- gorgeous grounds & tasting room. Lovely beyond comparison. (Most of the reviews are raves about the views and scenery). They are a little bit "in your face" about the exclusivity to club members when the first thing you see heading in from the parking lot is the "members only" lounge.with prominent signage denoting it as such. (We haven't seen this type of thing in the bazillion other wineries we've been to, Maybe they exist but are a little more subtle .. We belong to many clubs and know that they do have their perks, but...) and upon asking about the Malbec that we saw on display in the "general admission" room, were told that it is "available only to club members". We caught them on a busy day, very noisy & crowded with lots of tour groups & people just hanging out to party on the patio, enjoy the views, and take pictures.. (We usually shy away from the touristy, party types of wineries, as long experience has proven that this atmosphere is pretty much never conducive to serious wine tasting... but that's just us- don't want to seem like a party pooper!). This could be why our service was perfunctory at best. Our server was not unpleasant, but rather disinterested. Just poured, said very little, and didn't really seem to care about engaging us, or whether we made a purchase or not. We found the wines good, not superlative. We did buy 4 bottles, (2 of the Cotes du Paso and 2 Cabernet, both of which were yummy), however we bought entire cases at all 4 or 5 of the other area places we visited where we given a little more incentive and encouragement. It really doesn't take much, especially when the wines are good... I'd give this a 5+ star rating if one is looking for an extraordinarily beautiful setting at which to sit and have a picnic, but my husband and I are not overly impressed by imposing ambience. Just give us great wine & tell us about it and what makes it special! We like to take away with us not only bottles of wine but also a little story or something that we may have learned about the place and their wines which we remember when we open and enjoy the bottles later. This is what makes for a unique and memorable experience and is what we did not get here. In fairness, perhaps a second visit would be in order sometime NOT on a sunny Saturday afternoon in July, or any other time during tourist season, for a more relaxed tasting and perhaps tour. .

I visited Paso Robles overnight with view to touring the vineyards on bike. Had arranged a rental with a local shop which worked well, but it was very hot (80-90F) and I was cooked cycling the 20 miles to the nearest vineyards of interest (there was a lot of uphill out of town). Got the Halter Ranch tasting rooms in a state of collapse and extreme heat-damage. People were great, in getting me water etc; tasted some wines which were interesting in a very impressive designer-type tasting room and staff plotted my easiest return (least climbing) using google maps. Really very helpful people. Would recommend a visit.

The buildings on this property are a huge WOW. There is even a covered bridge on the property!
Morgan did a great job of pouring wines for us. She was fun, knowledgeable and energetic.
The patio is very large for outdoor tastings and in hot weather we still kept cool.
We ended up buying a couple of bottles that we had never tried before. Their reds are very good, the blends on point.

A group of 7 ladies enjoyed Paso Wine country this week (1 non-taster/driver). I can not say enough good things about our experience at Halter Ranch. Cassie was our server and she was fun and funny, knowledgeable and informative but not a hovering kind of host. She came and told us all about the wine we were tasting, in a fun way and left us alone after so we could catch up and converse with each other! The food was fantastic, the wine was incredible and of course the friendship and conversation were second to none! Do yourself a favor and experience Halter Ranch for yourself…ask for Cassie!

Ryan our wine ambassador was very knowledgeable not only about the vines but the wine also. We sat outside in order to enjoy the sights of the vineyard. We ordered wine to send home Syrah 2017, the Carignon was beautiful with a light body !! And the GSTM (cuvée Alice ) was also very nice .
The food we shared was nice and sourced here on property . A nice place to visit !!

Wife and I made a stop here during a guided wine tour of Paso Robles and were NOT disappointed! Due to fortuitous happenstance, we were allowed into the members only club house which has been recently finished and is spectacular! Had some of the BEST wine we have had in Paso and met some great people! We highly recommend a stop at this winery when in Paso!

We had an excellent trip here. Took the 3 hour excursion with Noah and had a excellent time. The wines here are tremendous. The reds are really exceptional. We really enjoyed this trip.

We have been here many times. This saved our day from our previous tasting. The wine was exceptional and the food great! The service professional. What more can I say?

Stunning property and views and truly outstanding wines. Not overcrowded and tasting hosts are very knowledgeable and pleasant. Best if you are with a wine club member and can use the exclusive upstairs tasting room. Make a tasting reservation with a large cheese plate in advance.

We visited the new tasting room...the view is breathtaking, but we miss the funky old tasting room tucked behind the Victorian farm house.
Most important, the wines. Their signature blend, Ancestor, is a Bordeaux style wine, which is very drinkable when bottled but will mature in the cellar.
The surprise to us was the Cab, which was wonderfully complex, with a full flavor and nice but not too tannic finish.
And the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the wines. Hooray for that!
Join the club, like we did...

We were so impressed with the wines here. Stumbled upon it because of a recommendation made by our driver for the day. Lovely tasting room, very friendly staff and really nice wines- one of our very favorite wineries in Paso!

This is a fine winery that if you only went for the tasting, you'd be happy with. But take the tour (pre-book!). The history of the area, the beauty of the property is well worth seeing. This will be a 2+hr adventure, but you will be happy to participate! They often will allow you to taste the "wine club member only" wines at the end of the tour...so why not! We will be back soon to enjoy this enchanted property!

A fantastic spot for amazing wines and views! Love it here. Make sure to do the horseback riding tours and book in advance!

This place has a free tour of the wine cave and a ends in the spectacular tasting room. A great stop along the wine trail. The deer out in front were a perfect sight out by the original home at the entrance!

The tasting room is absolutely beautiful and the wines are wonderful. We took the twice a day tour and highly recommend it. The tour takes an hour and goes through all parts of the winery. It was very informative as well as supremly impressive. It is a state of the art facility the likes of which we have never seen. It is obvious no expense was spared. Our guide and pourer was "T" and he was extremely good at his trade. Not to be missed by anyone interested in wine or architecture.

Our server was nice not very enthusiastic or entertaining... the wines were great.. we did join the reds only Club.. the tasting room is warm cozy and enjoyable... the views of the vineyards are breathtaking.

Over the years we have visited many of the wineries in the Paso area. This trip we had time only for one so I decided to stop at one we had not been to before.
Halter Ranch is a beautiful facility- large property that you enter off Adelaida Road pass large house and gardens, go thru a covered wooden bridge, up a hill to the wine tasting room. The tasting room is large, has huge floor to ceiling windows so that you can view the surrounding vineyards and hills while tasting; they also have a patio. MInor issue is they could use more nearby parking spaces.
Knowledgeable and friendly tasting room staff. Wines are good though no whites were available for tasting to my wife's dismay. Five or so wines to taste.
One consideration is cost- $20 per tasting (you can share) for five tastes. Good news is they refund one tasting fee for every two bottles purchased. Wines range from $28 to $60 unless you are a club member and certain wines are only available to club members.

My wife and I invited our oldest son to join us for our annual Paso wine tasting tour and we picked 6 highly rated wineries on this weekend's trip. Halter Ranch was my wife and my favorite of the weekend. Out of the 7 wines we tasted, we bought 3 of them and would have bought more but Halter was only the second stop on our tour. The tasting room is spectacular with the huge windows looking out at the vineyard and the overall grounds were beautiful. The only downside was that it was very busy and a "singles" bus tour showed up and invaded the tasting room. They were obnoxious and obviously were more interested in taking selfies and group pictures than enjoying the experience. Still, I will come back.

This is in a great location and I loved the floor to ceiling windows that allowed you to fully enjoy the view. The wine itself was good, I preferred their reds over their whites and especially liked the 2013 Cab and their Ancestor wine. This is a good stop if you like views and they have a nice patio in the back with a fire pit as well.

We went here on the advice of a waiter and he was spot on! Beautiful grounds, the drive was amazing and we would like to explore more of Paso's west side.
The rose was really good and our waiter gave us the secret word for Halter Ranch's secret, their dessert wine Vin de Paille.
Go find out for yourselves!

Halter Ranch is a great winery and the new tasting room is spectacular, with its views. The floor to ceiling windows give you a great view of the vineyard and the surrounding area. The wine is very good from whites to reds, you can't go wrong at Halter. It is worth the drive and the drive out is very pretty.

We were on a road trip and only in Paso Robles for 1 day and we picked Halter Ranch Vineyard to visit. We made the right choice! We were running a bit late and were probably the last to leave the ranch, but they didn't rush us through our tasting and let us tour the ranch while they packed up for the night. The wine was amazing (we took home 4 bottles and joined the wine club!). I would recommend to anyone visiting Paso Robles.

The tasting room has been moved and upgraded within the last two years. This is a modern room, with lovely views and a beautiful grounds. The wines are good, as well!

Beautiful property. Some of the best views in Paso and a great place to sit and sip. Wines were good but not the best value in Paso. Food was tasty but a little overpriced for the quantity.

Halter Ranch is an incredible place - state of the art winery, spectacular new tasting room, incredible views and a deep commitment to the environment. Excellent wines at reasonable prices. Definitely worth a trip there.

We had ordered a bottle of Halter Ranch wine with our dinner the night before, and were very impressed, so we decided to visit the winery. It is beautiful! The server was the most knowledgeable one we had met on this trip, and he was not pretentious. He encouraged us to come back another time and bring a picnic.

Had a great time listening to some live music and enjoyed a glass of their CDP blend. They had some cool food trucks also.

Our very first stop in Paso! Avid wine lovers we are newbs to vineyards, etc... Jess was great and answered all of our dumb questions and gave us honest and informative answers as well as giving us tips on local places to eat and visit. After ordering some bottles to be shipped we headed out for others.

Wow is this place great! The tour was so informative, the owners care a great deal about the environment and their workers! The wine was excellent. A worthwhile visit!

What a great way to taste their very good wine. Lounge in comfy seating, order small plates of food, and enjoy the relaxed wine tasting environment. The one downside, but the restriction keeps it "special", is that non-club members who are your guests are not allowed to visit the members-only lounge. However, the regular tasting room is very nice too.

This winery is about 10 miles out of town. To get there you travel on a two lane winding road. Once on the winery grounds, following the signs to the tasting room, there are two large buildings on either side of the road leading to the tasting room, one on the left and one on the right. The tasting room is on the right. There is indoor as well as outdoor seating. We choose to sit outside as it was a beautiful day. The view of the vineyards and surrounding countryside was spectacular. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We each ordered a Caesar Salad ($19) which was very good. The young lady helping us was very informative. We weren't familiar with Tannat and were able to learn about the grape as well as sample the wine. It was amazing and we took a couple of bottles to go!

Outstanding wine and staff and don't rush you like so many tasting rooms do. If you join their club and pick up wine they are happy to let you change your shipment choices

The new tasting room has fabulous views, plenty of room and helpful, friendly servers. It's nice that they provide tables and chairs to relax in while you drink your wine and eat any snacks you might bring. There is also an outdoor seating area.

Wendy Evans in the tasting room suggested us tour the facilities at Halter Ranch if we had time the next day, and encouraged by her enthusiasm we signed up immediately. What.A.Treat. I have probably been on 40 wine tours of factories and caves over the last 25 years, but Wendy had such great insights and stories that I learned new things and was impressed by all the newer equipment Halter is using for the best wines combined with sustainability. Of course we signed up as wine clubs members, bought wine, stayed for lunch on the lawn, and will return next year :)

We frequent Halter Ranch for both weddings as well as wine tours quite often and in either situation everyone involved is nothing but ecstatic! The breath-taking views from the tasting room itself are only eclipsed by the beauty of the weddings that take place on the grounds. With barrel tasting tours, winery and cave tours and excursion tours, this place truly has something for everyone. If you are looking for an incredible venue for your big day, or just want to get away from it all for the afternoon with a outstanding glass of wine look no further than Halter Ranch

We visited Halter Ranch based on a recommendation from our hotel concierge.
We were delighted to see the large, open and beautiful property, with a new and vibrant tasting room. Not all wines were stand-out but they do have a few signature wines which were just delicious. They allow you to bring your own food and enjoy it in the outdoor area with ample seating, so feel free to pack a picnic during your next visit :-)

We were recommended to Halter Ranch by Kenvin at Zenaida Cellers and were more than pleased. Wines were excellent and their new tasting room was the best we encountered both for quality and view.

Sarah at Halter Ranch gave us an amazing cave tour of the facilities there. The setting is gorgeous. The history is interesting. The wine is fantastic. I highly recommend stopping by. Call ahead for the cave tour.... it's worth a visit!

We called ahead to sign up for a tour and it was well worth it. Our tour guide was Sarah. She was excellent--friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. We began the tour learning about the restored Victorian home, barns and grounds and then walked across the covered bridge to tour the beautiful new winery buildings and wine club area. We also toured the caves which are extensive (20,000+ sq. ft). We walked by some of the vineyards, tasted some wine grapes, and got all of our questions answered. At the end of the tour, we tasted the wines which we thoroughly enjoyed. They sell cheese, crackers and other snacks, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. There is a lovely shaded garden area and patio with fireplace where you can relax, have your picnic and/or savor some wine.

We are wine club members and this is the 4th time we have been to the winery. During our recent visit we were seated in the newly designated members-only outdoor area at the old house that you pass when you enter the property. There is a new wood burning pizza oven so they now offer pizza, flat bread and some other small bites. There are a couple of corn-hole games available. We love the wines and find the price point to be quite reasonable. The tasting room is very large with absolutely gorgeous views of the vineyard. Last year we did a seated tasting in the caves which was awesome! Most definitely, a not-to-be-missed winery while in Paso.

We had a great time tasting wine at Halter Ranch Winery. Our wine expert, Tee was really fun with a great personality and he was very knowledgeable about the wines. The tasting room is amazing, incorporating the gorgeous views. There were tables and umbrellas to enjoy wine and food.

Halter Ranch is located to the West of Paso Robles. You take a small winding road to get to a beautiful valley where the property is located. You will pass other wineries as you make your way there. Once there you will be amazed at the modern, but very tasteful buildings. The people at Halter Ranch are very friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend that you sign up in advance for the tour by calling them and making a reservation. Our tour guide was Noah and he told us in great detail about the winemaking process. The highlight of the tour is when you get to enter the wine caves where thousands of oak barrels are stored at constant temperature. At the end of the tour you will do your tasting of some very good wines. We got a coupon for two free tastings at the Chamber of Commerce in Paso Robles so everything was free for us.

Of the half dozen or so wineries we visited on a weekend in Paso Robles, this was definitely my favorite. The grounds were lovely, with a couple separate shaded areas for picnicking. Our pourer was friendly, attentive and informative (but not hovering), and the wines themselves were good. The tasting room was a little busy (it was a holiday weekend), but the tasting counter is very long, and they seemed to have it under control. I’m sorry we didn’t have a chance to take the tour because the property looks like it has some history to it, with a covered bridge off the parking area and a charming clapboard house in the center of the main area.
Because there are almost 200 wineries around Paso Robles, I imagine you can visit over and over again without repeating one. This is probably the one I’d want to visit again.

Recommended to Halter Ranch for their wines, tasting room and vineyard views. We really enjoyed the wine/cave tour, very informative. Loved the interior, furniture, views and atmosphere of the tasting room.Purchased HR Syrah had it with dinner at "The Range", Yum!.

We visited ten wineries in Paso Robles during April and Halter Ranch was one of our favorites. Fairly new tasting room, great views and our server, Ashley was great. Their tasting was $10 for five very nice wines.

We stopped here during our recent visit to Paso Robles. I asked in the tasting room if we could do our tasting outside because we had our dog with us (i.e., bad experience elsewhere). They invited us to bring the dog in and then they provided for the dog treats and water to keep her occupied. The place was very busy and has a huge picnic area along with tasting bars inside and out. The place is gorgeous and deserves a return trip if only for its friendliness.

Beautiful windy road leads to this charming winery. Great selection of reds with a knowledgable staff.

This winery was recommended by a foodie friend who knows her wines. I'm so glad I made the time to visit. With over 400 wineries in Paso Robles it's hard to know where to begin. I would put Halter Ranch at the top of the list.
Noah poured our wine tasting. Try to get him if you can. He was so passionate and enthusiastic about the wine he made us fall in love with it. We joined the wine club on the spot. The wine is fantastic. We can't wait to go back in the Fall and pick up our next wine club selection.
The physical grounds are stunning. The views look like Tuscany. There is a charming covered bridge at the entry to the winery and a nice place to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine after your tasting. We were there late on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't very crowded.

We were visiting with 2 other couples and stopped at Halter Ranch. The tasting room overlooks the vinegar and the patio is just lovely . Great place to bring a picnic and enjoy the ambiance . Sorry we already had lunch. It was nice they let us enjoy the patio during our tasting (we did have to go into the tasting room to refill, which was fine). Will return.

We’re Wine Club members.
First the good:
Delicious appetizers, lunch & table service by the staff. We always enjoy the views and the grounds can’t be beat.
The not so good:
Odd, less than friendly greeting when we arrived (Early, with a Rez.). Slow Wine tasting Experience & then our pourer was hurried once she finally made it to our table. Never asked if we’d like to revisit any of the Wines, how we liked them or if we would like an additional glass. Our table location was poor.
No mention of my Birthday (despite noting it on the Rez.).
Disappointed overall after many excellent experiences in the past.

We were on our way to another winery when someone told us to visit Halter Ranch. We were amazed by the huge window wall looking out at the vineyards. The tasting room is enormous and crisp and clean modern decor. There is an indoor seating area as well as an outdoor seating area but they technically don't serve food during the day. We were told that they have dinner tours there. The CDP red was very good. They charge $10 for tasting but apply the fee towards your purchase. It's way off the beaten path. We actually got lost going there so the drive back to where we were staying was much quicker than getting there. I would recommend this winery. So worth the extra mile.

Nice wines with a wonderful selection of cheeses and crackers..great atmosphere. ..nice place to stop!

Halter Ranch Vineyard is a great spot to visit. This is a not a "glass palace" show piece, but, instead, a historic ranch from the mid-1800s, well away from the main vineyard cluster, and very rural and peaceful. The Victorian farm house is of interest, as is the covered bridge they have added. And, the wine was good and the staff friendly. They are building a new tasting room and bed and breakfast facility, so a longer visit will be possible in the future. Well worth the trip.

First of all, please know that I have visited several wineries in Europe, Washington State, and in California. This had to be one of my worst experiences. I hope people that read this will consider all the other wonderful option rather than this place. Yesterday, my wife and our friends went to Calcareous Vineyard in Paso Robles and it was a great experience. Today, this was just the opposite. The wine is average at best. The selection for tasting is poor. But the worst part is the price. They charge you $20 per person for tasting. BUT, if you buy TWO bottles, they will waive the tasting charge for ONE person. Three of us were doing the tasting ($60). To avoid the tasting fee, we were expected to buy 6 bottles of wine. Their cheapest wine, which wasn't very good, cost $28. There other "tasting wines" went up to $60 a bottle. So each person was expected to pay a minimum of $56 to avoid the $20 tasting fee. In all my years of doing wine tastings (I'm 65 years old), I've never ran in to such a situation. When I asked about it, they of course said that this was normal. But I can tell you at the Calcareous vineyard, there was no tasting fee and the wine was good. The three of us had a good time tasting some of their wine and spent $35 on a bottle to share on their patio. Not the case with Halter Ranch. But they got you. It's a long drive out to their place so you can't easily say to heck with it and leave. Also, their snack prices were outrageous and the items in their shop are over priced (double). So, just save yourself some frustration and money and go to a different vineyard. There are so many wonderful ones, you don't need to put up with mediocre wine at outrageous prices, with snooty servers. We did buy a couple of bottles just to help minimize our out of pocket expenses. They were white wines. We took one out on their patio to enjoy. They didn't even have the decency to offer us an ice bucket to keep our white wine chilled....and it was over 70 degrees on the patio! So, like I said, avoid this place. It's just not worth it.

We didn't just want to go wine tasting in Paso Robles, we wanted a full tour of the wine-making process. Halter Ranch provides free tours at 11 am and 1 pm, and our guide Paul was full of knowledge and very friendly.
Paul started by talking about the history of the land, and bringing us to it's current owner and use. The is a state-of-the-art winery and very environmentally friendly. So much so, in fact, that they are certified as a Sustainability in Practice (SIP) facility. We learned so much about how much it takes to make a great wine, and also about how to do it in the best way for the environment and the wine itself.
We're not alcohol drinkers, but we still purchased a bottle of wine at the end of our tour during the wine tasting. The wine tasting is $20 per person, but is waved if you purchase a bottle. Our's was $50, so we basically got a bottle of wine for $10!
We highly recommend the winery tour, and in supporting this winery and it's sustainable practices.

This is a beautiful vineyard, and they are serving wonderful wines at the tasting... friendly staff, and really pretty area... wish they have a place to sit during the wine tasting (Like Justin), but because the wine are so good, standing it not a big deal.

Gorgeous vineyard with classy atmosphere. Wine tasting was stylish and food delicious! I would recommend this to anyone interested in an awesome Paso Robles experience!!!

We've enjoyed quite a few wine tastings at quite a few Central Coast wineries. This has a nice variety of wines, perhaps a bit pricier than some, but surely delicious. What made it absolutely outstanding was the fascinating tour of their state-of-the-art production facility which depends in large part on gravity, and the extensive aging cellars. The local environment was full of bluebirds, acorn woodpeckers, lesser Goldfinch, and yellow billed magpies! A lovely afternoon. But you need to book the wine tour in advance to be sure of getting a place. No charge for the tour. Brice was an outstanding host, with an amazing knowledge not just of wines and wine making, but also of the local flora and fauna.

We have enjoyed Halter Ranch wines here on the east coast when available in our favorite liquor store, but had never made the pilgrimage to Halter Ranch. We had been to other nearby wineries, so on this winter's tour, it was a must stop. Glad we did, as we caught the old tasting room in its last week of operation. By the time you read this, the new tasting room should be up and operating. I'm sure it will be fine, but frankly, we were glad we caught the original before they transition. The staff member who poured was very new, but knew her stuff. The wines, of course, were all delicious.

Whereas tasting of their wines was once conducted in a neat farm house, now they have a huge complex with different tasting areas for different levels of visitors (uber chichi) and expansive areas to taste, take in the scenery and hang out. The olive oil is nice and the wines pleasant, but by expanding into a destination theme, the heart seems to be gone from the old Halter. If you're into the whole wine destination scene, go for it. Otherwise there are many other places that are much more intimate and haven't gone over to the Napa feel. Enjoy

The view is gorgeous!! I can’t think of a reason not to soak it up. Tasting room has large windows where you can take it all in. They charge $20 for tasting. They have a gift shop with some nice things to select but it’s small. I was not a fan of the wines at all. But enjoyed the ride over the covered bridge to get to the tasting room.

Second time visiting from San Francisco and we became wine members. Reasonably priced and delicious wine and good. Even though Napa and Sonoma are closer, I like the spacious environment and relaxing vibe at Halter Ranch. Wonderful reason for a quick overnight excursion.

Would come back here for picnic lunch. So pretty. I'm a red wine drinker and I enjoyed their cab, lighter and unique. You can get cheese and crackers on site for a light lunch. Off the beaten path and I like that.

Charming Property. You enter by a covered bridge into a beautiful vineyard. We were not only impressed by the facility, but also by the wonderful staff and delightful wines. We know we'll enjoy what we brought home with us.

We were here for a classy bachelorette weekend and did an amazing tour of the property. The wine was delicious and the entire staff was amazing. This was certainly the highlight of our weekend.
Thank you Tajin for an absolutely fantastic day!

We were told to visit Halter Ranch because the former winemaker at Justin is now here. Good advice. The property is big and spacious with a covered bridge and new tasting room. Nice seating areas inside and out. Huge windows for fine views of the vineyards, including the largest oak tree in the region (around 600 years old). Their signature wine is called "Ancestor" in honor of the old oak tree. It's a big blend, which seems to be what Paso is most noted for.

We had a very pleasant visit with a personable and informative server. We enjoyed all of the wines, but they are in the $35 or more range, which is steeper than we usually drink

Great setting, delicious wines, knowledgeable staff, good lunch choices. Relaxing place to visit and learn about Paso wines.

Dog friendly visit on a hot Monday in July. Enjoyed my conversations with the tasting room staff and of course tasting their delicious wines. Relaxing and pleasant way to spend an hour or two!

We decided to visit Halter Ranch on our way to Sensario. We didn’t make a reservation but I would suggest you make a reservation to ensure a spot. We were very lucky, our timing was impeccable we barely beat the rush. We were happily greeted by Ray. He was very knowledgeable and helpful with our tastings and purchases. I would recommend reserving a tasting with wine cellar tour. They do have lunch options available and live music. They also have a cute gift shop.

You get excited about this place as you are driving into the property and cross the covered bridge to the tasting roo, Welcoming staff. There are options to purchase food with a wine pairing and sit out on the patio. There is a Cave tour that you can take;suggest reservations for that.

We took the three hour Excursion tour with Noelle in a Land Rover. As wonderful a wine experience as we've ever had. The winery is set in rolling hills with hundreds of acres of vines - you are taken to the highest point to sip some wine and enjoy the view. Noelle was a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Between tastings and tripping in the Land Rover you get to see the ultra modern winery operation - at this time in early October still harvesting. Of course, the tour ends in the tasting room with some delicious and unique offerings from Halter Ranch.
Truly a must-do in Paso Robles if you like wine and the outdoors.

Went with wine club members, which gave access to the members' tasting facility. But all of Halter is 100% classy and top-notch in every regard. The facility is stunning, the team knowledgeable and helpful, and the wines delicious, though expensive.

I have visited Hatler Ranch a couple times in the past and it was ok, but now with the new tasting room this is going to be a must stop each trip to Paso Robles. Located in the heart of the Adelaida District basically where Vineyard Drive meets Adelaida Road it is easy to find. The old tasting room was at the bottom of the hill nestled among the trees, but the new tasting room is located up the hill with huge windows that allows you to take in the beauty of the surrounding hills. It is as fine of a tasting room as you will probably find and definitely makes the experience special. The wines are good too. Halter Ranch specializes in Bordeaux and Rhone style wines. Parking was less than ideal as we had to park down by the offices and walk over to the tasting room (no big deal). There was a nice lounge area for wine club members and a nice porch as well. My wife and I really enjoyed the tasting. The staff was friendly, water was plentiful as well, all the facilities were really nice. There is a $10 tasting fee, but we picked up a coupon at the Marriott and got the tasting for fee so definitely check for those around town. They also over tours and barrel tastings. I definitely recommend stopping in for a tasting at the very least if you are out this way.

A great part of the wine tasting experience is dealing with a host who is personable , knowledgeable and engaging. Our host today was none of the above. She poured each glass and never even bothered to identify what we were about to taste, let alone attempt to describe the wine. She was no saleswoman and she definitely did not make a sale with us.

Paso Robles is home to some of our favorite vineyards, so when we discovered Halter Ranch's fine wines we were beyond thrilled. The ranch boasts a beautiful little setting along Adelaide road in the hills beyond Paso. A covered bridge welcomes you to the modern tasting room and members lounge surrounded by the working winery. The staff was beyond welcoming and highly informative when educating about the history of the vineyard.
We were fortunate enough to book an excursion tour that introduced you to the workings of the land. Not only do they house a vineyard, but conservation to wildlife as well. Grape and wine tasting was a delight and we enjoyed a stop and photo op at the vineyards ancient coastal oak tree known as the Ancestor, estimated to be around 600 years old. There we enjoyed the wine by the same name under the oaks massive outstretched branches. The whole experience was mesmerizing and allowed for glimpses of nostalgia into the art of wine making and history of the region. We are now silver label members and look forward to enjoying all Halter Ranch has to offer for years to come.

This vineyard was a great location to other wineries. Loved the historical narration tour of all the winemaking processes. We were here during busy harvest season, but the staff was very professional and courteous! Great wines!

Check out this winery now, before it ascends to one of the elite in the region. Their wine maker made Justin what it is today, but now he moved just down the road to this up-and-coming winery. They are building a state-of-the-art new tasting room and are fast becoming one of the must-sees in the area.
Dan's Travel Tip #1: Make sure you try the 2009 Ancestor before it is gone!
Dan's Travel Tip #2: Ask for "T" (Tajin) in the tasting room, he is very courteous, professional, and very knowledgeable.
Enjoy....Aloha!

This is a special winery with especially attentive servers. I would recommend a wine tour through the winery and the wine cave. We enjoyed learning about its rich history and wine making principles. Their 2013 Syrah is wonderful and ready to drink.

Halter Ranch is just that, a vintage Victorian home, tasting room, covered bridge under beautiful trees on Paso Robles' west side. The wine club boasts a members lounge and some really nice events, in addition to the traditional wine shipments. The option of a 'custom' shipment is a great plus!

Halter Ranch is easy to find on Adelaide Road near the Vineyard Drive turn off. Outside is a vintage farmhouse, a fireplace and a nice picnic area. The tasting room is modest sized and staffed with friendly, knowledgeable staff. They have a cave tour, but you need to book it in advance. Loved the wine, the service and the location.

Halter Ranch is a beautiful ranch . The rolling hills and the massive vineyards are beautiful. Being a pilot, the pilot cabins are perfect for overnight or longer stays. The cabins are well appointed. Everything needed. Just like an airbnb only better. This is a quiet place at night. We will return.

My wife and I recently shared a tasting at Halter Ranch and very much enjoyed the experience. The tasting is $20, which is waived if you buy two bottles. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and the winery is in a wonderful setting. I would definitely return for another visit.

My wife and I visited here yesterday. Noah was our Tour guide and he poured tastings afterwards. Having been in numerous wineries and attended at least five or six wine tours, Noah was by far the most knowledgeable and personable person that I have ever dealt with in a winery. We were there on a Thursday which helped because the winery itself was not crowded. The tasting room has sweeping views of the winery and Hillside views in the western Adelaide region. Certainly one of the best views I have seen in a winery. They have a beautiful members only tasting room, and although the service is supposed to be spectacular, it does not offer the magnificent views of their tasting. My wife and I were so impressed and delighted with the winds, that we joined their wine club. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful time at Halter Ranch riding the wine train and eating the BBQ dinner afterwards. Even for non-members both the train ride and the dinner were very reasonably priced. My parents are members and for members it was even better. 40$ for the train ride and $35 for dinner. The train ride included one healthy glass of rose and encompassed the entire rail line at Halter. It was a beautiful day, and it was nice to just ride the train without any commentary regarding the property (not a tour, just a ride). A unique experience that no other winery has even attempted to duplicate. The food was very good and consisted of 3 courses with two different main coarse choices. Dinner included one glass of their new cab release.
We love Halter and will be back again next time we are visiting family in Paso. Thank you to Hansjörg Wyss for preserving this land and creating such a wonderful winery.

This was vineyard was on our list to vist based on research and having had their Syrah before. The setting is very pleasant as they have kept the old ranch buildings intact.
The head winemaker came over from Justin a few years ago. One thing he did was rip out all of the Zinfindel vines because he doesn't want that grape. Being a Zin fan, that seems wrong in an area that grows that grape well.
The wines we tasted were good. While the tasting room staff was pleasant and had knowledge of the wines, something seemed missing. We did not take the tour.
We looked at the wine club and determined the pricing was not much different than what we paid at home in Georgia.
Overall, we expected to be "wowed" and that just didn't happen. We enjoyed visits to other vineyards more.

We visited Halter Ranch for the first time in 2017. We loved it so much we convinced a local family member to become a wine club member. During our 2017 and 2018 visits we took a tour of the winery and had a wonderful wine tasting and charcuterie in the members lounge by the fireplace. During our 2018 visit we also took the now famous Excursion tour. This tour is so popular its now offered 7 days a week (weather permitting). I highly recommend this tour. The ancestor oak was the highlight for us.
My favorite wines from Halter are the CDP, the Syrah, and the Rose. Its obvious that the staff love working here and this was the cleanest, most modern, and most sustainable winery I have ever visited. You could eat of the production room floors. Besides their pick up parties they also have dinners on the covered bridge and inside the winery production area.
We are visiting again in two weeks and have reserved their once a month vineyard hike (3 miles). This is not to be confused with the daily walking tour. Looking forward to visiting Halter again and getting our hands in the dirt!

This was the best wine tour that I have experienced. Our tour guide told us about how they get to train and work all the different aspects of the process. It was a personal tour with only my boyfriend and I. Our tour guide was full interesting facts and gave us a lovely tasting afterwards. I was impressed with how well thought out the processing part of the winery was built. It is very modern. You should check it out!

Don't know what the old tasting room was like, but the new one is spectacular. Spacious and gracious with a lot of seating inside and out. So you can take the wine you purchase and just sit and sip and relax. Our traveling companions were intrigued enough to purchase two bottles, while we just soaked up the setting having reached our wine limit for the day.

We took friends from NYC for a late morning tour at Halter Ranch. What a spectacular day! They were fascinated by the tour featuring Halter!s innovative and environmentally integrated processes. We had lunch out on the beautiful patio and shared some delicious wine. They were so impressed!

We liked the ranch setting of Halter Ranch Vineyard. it has that certain upscale feel of a Central Coast winery. We liked the wines and tasting. Although we did not join, this winery goes out of their way to take care of their wine club members with special tasting areas, etc. We had a good time visiting.

Take the tour. It is one of the most state of the art facilities in the world. It will give you a new appreciation for the art of wine making. Amazing.

With the many, many vineyards around it is sometimes hard to pick where to go. Halter Ranch has great wines...our FIRST priority. They are building a new tasting room on the hill next to their wine club tasting area. The views are amazing! Also, a beautiful covered bridge adds to the grounds. This is a not to miss place to stop for wine tasting!

On our way to another winery to pick up our shipment. We enjoyed Halter Ranch at the departed California Wine and Cheese shop in Monrovia. Rhone Blends-every one on the $10 tasting menu is wonderful.
Bought 2013 Rose: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre (GSM) with a spash of Picpoul Blanc. GSMers will think they died and went to GSM heaven.
Bonus pour of 2011 Ancestor Estate Reserve $50 retail. Wine, cheese, crackers and their own olive oil for sale. Yes we bought crackers and oil too....

Loved it. Beautifully done building, cozy yet modern, with great wine. One of our top 3 vineyards in Paso.

My husband and I were there on 1/5/2019 for the first time based on the recommendation of our driver. We prefer red wines which Halter Ranch produces. Their Ancestor, named after the oldest tree on the vineyard, is their premium red. It offers a mix of currants and subtle hints of fruit. Our hostess, Julie, was knowledgeable, friendly and demonstrated a genuine interest in ensuring customers had a pleasant wine-tasting experience. She made us feel welcome with her warm personality and attentiveness. The tasting room is sizeable with ample seating indoors and outdoors. While we have a penchant for red wines, Halter Ranch offers a palatable grenache that is smooth and not sweet -- a plus for our taste buds. Visit this winery if interested in experiencing wine from a large winery. The wines and staff won't disappoint.

Their new tasting room is spectacular just like their wines! The staff is extremely friendly and it's one of our favorite stops when we go to Paso.

Fabulous wines especially theLibelle and ancestor and delicious food in the Alice restaurant. With beautiful vistas and lots of incredible art.

Paid a visit here to do some wine tasting. Really fun. Wine was really nice and had time to ask a lot of questions. Staff was just great to me. Go there!

Went to Halter Ranch to see the new tasting room. First class venue for tasting first class wine. Thumbs up!

Cute winery. Good wines. We bought salami, cheese, olives and bread and had a nice picnic on the grounds. The staff was friendly and very knowledgable about wine. We enjoyed a bottle with dinner that night. We will certainly be back!

Came here on a friends recommendation and were not disappointed. We had great service from Willie, got a great history lesson about Halter Ranch and did a flight tasting .
The grounds felt relaxing and comfortable.
A place to definitely check out.
Buy their Ancestor red wine.

We love Halter Ranch. Wonderful wines, great service and good food. Vineyard views.
We have been several times and never disappointed. Do the cave tour if you can ...

I had heard great things about Halter Ranch and their wines. Paso Robles spoils everyone because it seems all the wineries are only 10 minutes away. Halter Ranch is one of the ones that is a bit of a drive and is not 10 minutes away. However, it is worth every minute of the drive.
This winery is beautiful, and the wines themselves were even more beautiful. I stayed longer than I expected I would and I wish I'd stayed even longer. Seemingly at the top of the valley, the views are expansive and beautiful. You are among vineyards so you don't have to go far to be "in the vines". The backdrop for the tasting room stations is a wall of glass, so you look at all this beautiful scenery the entire time in the tasting room.
Now for the wines - they absolutely "fight above their weight class". These are heavyweight wines that are priced well below their value. The Rose was just delightful - light, crisp, refreshing. The CDP and the Cab were very good as well. The hits of my visit were the special bottling "Carbonic Grenache" as well as the phenomenal "Ancestor" Cab blend. These last two were amazing. Loved 'em all !!
Ashley was extremely knowledgable and was very attentive. Those of us in her area were well taken care of. I can't wait to come back to Halter Ranch on my next trip to the Paso Robles area. I will not, however, have to wait until I return to enjoy Halter Ranch wines as I took a couple of bottles with me, had some shipped for home delivery, and joined their wine club !!!

We are members here and returned for our complimentary tasting and lunch, which was excellent. We are likely to keep this wine club membership to enjoy the facility into the future with friends.

This was a great tour. Very interesting and the wine was fantastic. It was remarkable how different the wine tasted simply due to the barrel. The tour ended with a tasting. Jake, our tour guide was great. The wine and facility are both amazing.

Just a chance call-by, en route from Adelaida to Tablas Creek; we had a free tasting voucher from the place we were staying, and these guys' wines are excellent; you think Paso Robles = Big Reds, and they tick the box here, but the stand-out was their sauvignon blanc - heavenly; unbelievably good; (Cloudy Bay you have met your match) gosh I wish I could have taken some back to the UK with me. Go here. Do not bother with Tablas Creek or Justin.

It's not just the gorgeous views through huge picture windows or drive across the wooden bridge - the staff is awesome and wine fantastic. We bought a case of 'Ancestor', named for the oldest tree in the valley. Delicious and a great tasting.

You owe it to yourself to tae the tour here. This is an amazing facility and a gorgeous property and the wines are a reflection of that. The tour gives you bot the amazing history and the vision of the future that they hold at Halter Ranch. The winery facility is state of the art and beyond belief with caves a second floor catwalk in the enormous tank room and stunning views to come for their wine club members. I say ask for Sarah if you are a wine geek as she is a wealth of information. We had an amazing day here.

We very much enjoyed our Tuesday afternoon visit on this warm Nov 25th afternoon. A beautiful location. So impressed, we joined their wine club. Highly recommend this winery. We enjoyed a picnic at the tables adjacent the tasting room, underneath magnificent oak trees!

This winery shows you how someone that has money just does it right
Big property, great people, nice wines, beautiful tasting room, you can go on and on here
Just stop in and see for yourself

Halter Ranch doesn't have the stunning views of Denner or Daou (WOW!) or others in Paso, but the wine is simply fantastic. It's the only wine club I joined on my visit there. Ancestor (big, bold red), to me, is about as good as it gets outside of Napa. Let Katie Hamblin at Uncorked Wine Tours be your guide. What a fantastic way to spend a day.

Our visit to this winery was a great experience. We were given a private tour of the property because the group scheduled to come along were a half hour late. Our tour guide, Sarah was friendly, and told us many interesting facts about the architecture and wines. This is a beautiful location, and has outside seating to taste wine. Their wines were OK, not our favorite, but we did take home a bottle of their Syrah.

Halter Ranch Vineyard offers a beautiful modern tasting room overlooking the vineyard. The wines were good and the server very knowledgeable. We tasted two wines that we subsequently bought.
This would be an excellent location for a picnic lunch. They have a nice outdoor area with tables.

Recently renovated with huge floor to ceiling windows to the Vineyard. Outdoor cafe, small selection of items to purchase. I enjoy tastings with a minimal amount of education and friendly pourers. Felt exhausted from so much information that I couldn't enjoy the wine. I prefer a low-key environment.

I had read in Sunset magazine a month or so ago about Halter Ranch and their excursion tours. We booked our tour and are very glad we did. It was a very fun way to learn about how vines are grown, and what types of wine do well in Paso Robles. We were given a wonderful tour by Lauren, who was very informed and did her best to answer all of our questions and teach us about Halter Ranch Vineyards. We loved stopping to have a taste of wine on the property. Rose' to overlook the entire property at the highest elevation, and Syrah at the oldest Coastal Oak Tree. It was special. My husband even admitted that he was glad he gave up a day of golf to take the tour. We finished with a private tasting at the members lodge. It was a wonderful tour and day!

We paid extra for a train tour of the property. That was a beautiful way to enjoy this winery! I just wish there was someone explaining what we were seeing or even a prerecorded tape playing. They did give us a little booklet to read but trying to hold on to a wine glass, view the property, and take a picture or two kind of kept my hands occupied. I still give 4/5 because this was a lovely and unique experience.

Hmmmmm....not sure why all the great reviews. Maybe the commercial ambiance? The mediocre wine or 'restaurant feel' of the entire winery? If you're looking for a unique and pleasurable wine experience, I would recommend that you skip HR and save your $.

Since enough of us have commented on the beautiful vineyard views, you should visit Halter Ranch for that alone. However, the delicious wines and great Cave Tour are excellent accompaniments.
I really appreciate this vineyard's approach to sustainability and green initiatives. If you make a reservation for the Cave Tour, you will learn more about this. If you don't have time for the tour, I suppose you can ask when you are having your tasting.
They have a dessert wine that is not typically on the tasting menu. If you like dessert wines, you should definitely ask if they have a bottle available for tasting.

The wine was excellent-all of the types that we tasted were extremely smooth. We bought 6 bottles and joined the wine club as evidence on how good we thought of the wine. The wine tasting room is beautiful with large windows overlooking the countryside.

Halter Ranch has a new tasting room that is not to be missed. The architecture, the views, the wines and the staff are all top notch.

Its a nice enough place with decent wine, but nothing remarkable. I was told that the owners are billionaires, but you would not know it by looking at the tasting room. A modest little stand alone building with a long tasting room bar of simple wood. I guess I would describe the atmosphere as country house, or country store? There is no comparison to Daou's tasting room, the other billionaire on the block. There are some cheeses and cured meats for sale, but the selection is very limited. Still would make for a decent snack or maybe even a light lunch. Was easy to find and parking was ample. I will be back, but if I was short on time I might consider skipping.

Wow! We did the wine and cave tour experience at Halter Ranch and had an incredible time! We got to taste several of their wines along the way and they were all spectacular. The tour was very educational about the history of the property and how Halter Ranch makes their wines! We had 4 couples in our group and everyone had a wonderful time. I highly recommend coming here if you are visiting Paso Robles.
You can enjoy Halter Ranch in so many ways! They have a few different tour options to choose from. Or you can stop in for lunch or a traditional wine tasting. So many fun options!

FYI. I'm a wine club member at Halter Ranch, and have been there several times over the years. I guess I preferred the place when they were smaller and not quite so big for their britches.
To be clear, the winery and tasting room facilities are magnificent, and are among the finest I have ever visited (and I have been to many wineries). The setting and the views are excellent, and if you do the production facility tour, the facilities are state of the art. Even though I'm giving Halter a mediocre rating, they are well worth a visit, and if you can take the production tour (free and therefore a great value), by all means do it. My issues with Halter are very specific.
First, it seems like their focus now is more on being an 'events' destination, versus a winery that makes a good product and focuses on their most loyal customers. The past two times I've visited I have not been able to set up a tour (I understand they do fill up), nor have I had access to the club member tasting room. Why? Because of special events. Why is this important to me? Because if you go on a relatively busy day, the place will be overrun with mobs of people. Halter Ranch seems to be a favorite stop for the latest scourge in wine country, the drunken brides maid party. I will go out of my way to avoid a crowd, and on more than one occasion I've exited a busy winery, simply because I don't wish to deal with the hassle. If it's not fun to visit, then why bother? If the only perk I get from Halter is a free tasting, then big deal. I can give anybody my money for that perk.
The other issue I have is common to many tasting rooms, it's just that Halter takes it to a new level of silliness. How can I take you seriously as a winery if you do not offer any crackers or water to break my palate as I taste your product? How can I taste four or five big tannic reds without at least something? As far as I'm concerned any winery that does not offer crackers or water or both deserves an automatic one point deduction. If you don't provide these basic amenities then you are either, cheap, lazy, or just plain dumb. If you have the nerve to charge $10 or $20 for a tasting, I have the nerve to expect crackers or bread.
The lack of crackers, bread etc has become so commonplace at wineries that my wife and I have adopted the practice of carrying a small bag of pretzels with us, just to break our palate during a tasting. The person pouring for us told us we could not do that and we needed to step away from the tasting bar. Really? Frankly, I found that offensive.
So, bottom line is it's a nice place to see. The people who run it seem more focused on crowds and events, versus customer service or taking care of their best customers. For these reasons I will be cancelling my membership. See ya' later.

We enjoyed a cave tasting at Halter Ranch, which went through 5 wines, and then revisited those wines with cheese & meat, and finished with a Barrel Tasting. Our wine educator was great, and the whole group I was with (including the designated drivers) found this to be an excellent tasting.

As lovers of Halter Ranch Syrah, we drove up to Morro Bay on Saturday and took the short cut inland on Old Creek Rd to Hwy 46 east and headed toward west Templeton's Vineyard Drive while the hills were still an emerald green. The number of wineries heading north on Vineyard Dr seemed to have doubled since my last trip.
We only planned two stops: Opolo for their famous Zinfandels (another review) and Halter Ranch for their Syrahs. We turned east on Adalaida Rd, then a quick left into their driveway past Halter's beautifully restore two story Victorian. But their tasting room in the old barn was closed. Signs directed us across a new covered bridge and up the hill to two new buildings. On the left was the new winery. On the right a very new tasting room with picture windows looking east across Halter Ranch's vineyard toward Paso Robles. Beyond the modern tasting room island is a large half covered patio with outdoor fireplace. "So, How long has this been open?", I asked. "Since Tuesday" was the reply.
After tasting their 2013 Syrah, and Cabernet, we immediately signed up for their wine club, taking our first quarterly shipment, and doubling down on both reds. Then we were told that the next door winery has an upstairs private tasting room for wine club members. There is no cost to join a wine club. You just agree to accept quarterly shipments of either reds, their mixed selection, or your choice of wines, all at a discount. The latter option is unusual at central coast wineries.

Beautiful location, lots of tasting areas, loved chatting with Ashley - she was extremely friendly and helpful. To me, the wines were not to my taste, but that is part of the fun of going different places. Expensive fees though compared to others very close by.

We visited this winery and were pleasantly surprised to be given a wonderful free tour of their facility. Very interesting history of the grounds and incredible tour of the wine making process from beginning to end. Their Pinot, our favorite, among others were outstanding. Getting to the winery was a pretty drive but you do think you are lost... don't give up! You will not be disappointed.

Nice drive along Vineyard Drive. All of there wines are good, but the reasonably priced 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon was very good. I also liked the 2012 Ancestor (73% cabernet sauvignon), but the price was a little bit over my limit. The 1990 movie Arachnophobia was filmed on the grounds. For those who have seen the spider thriller, you will recognize the house and barn.

My husband, sister, mom and I came to Halter Ranch Vineyard for a pre-booked tour and tasting, and we had a great time. We had visited back in 2013, when it was just a small tasting room, and we were blown away by their wines. We've always picked it up at wine stores when we saw it after that. We returned in 2017 and how things have changed! The very wealthy owner has built a beautiful tasting room and state of the art production facility. My husband and I travel all over the world visiting wines, and we were truly impressed. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Our tasting that followed was great. The bottle prices have gone up, but they are still great wines.

Halter Ranch Vineyards is located on a stunning property and includes a perfectly restored 1885 farmhouse. The winery and tasting room are beautiful contemporary architecture. I especially liked the Ancestor wine, named for the Ancestor tree near the winery, which is the largest Coast Live Oak on record. Over 80% of the Halter property is conserved in its natural state. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend visiting.

On a whim, stop in and they accommodated us! Tried their Grenache Blanc and Viognier and they did not disappointed. Excellent experience from the start!

Beautiful winery - definitely include it in your wine tasting itinerary. Huge tasting room with tons of space so even on a busy day you should be able to find a spot. Lots of picnic tables, great views, tasty wines, what's not to like?

We have been Halter Ranch wine club members for years, long before construction of their new facility. It is a bit out of the way, which is one reason we like to visit. From the covered bridge to the majestic views, it is an excellent experience. As wine club members we were treated exceptionally well, but all visitors seem to be treated well at Halter Ranch. And, their wines are excellent. Certainly worth a drive through the beautiful back country for a visit.

We love red wine and Halter makes some of the best in Paso Robles wine region. The winery is beautiful and the wines are fantastic I do need to disclose that we are wine club members and so can taste for free and get discount on their wine. We can also bring guests so this works well for us. This is a great place to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful surroundings .

Beautiful property, stunning views, great wines and outstanding service. From the moment we walked in we were greeted warmly. It was my birthday and we were late getting to the winery. They had finished pouring full flights about 20 minutes before we arrived, but offered their limited pouring instead and seated us. Kristie was our served and made the visit extra special by going above and beyond to give us a few extra pours. Hearing it was my birthday she started us off with a wonderful sparkling. She was engaging, knowledgable, funny, and just great fun. Thank you Kristie for helping to make my day even better!

Visited Halter Ranch this past weekend. First time in the area. Beautiful facility; amazing views of the countryside and a first class tasting room. Staff was extremely knowledgeable...they really knew their wine. The wines themselves were very good. Also, not insanely priced. Overall, Halter Ranch is a must go if you're looking for a great wine tasting experience in Paso.

My wife and I revisited Halter Ranch in Paso Robles since it is one of our favorites. The cabs are excellent, the syrah very good as well as the Grenache and Rose. Located on Adelaida Road near some other fine wineries, this should be on your list of places to visit while in Paso. The wine pourings are sufficient and the cost of a tasting very reasonable.
The tasting room offers beautiful views and there is also outside patio seating, weather permitting.

Excellant winery with good whites and very good reds. 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent. The educator is Ray who is very good talming about the wines. Really a good place.

Beautiful views and great selection of wines across the board. Very friendly, helpful staff. Try both the desert wines, you won't be disappointed.

We have been members for a couple years now of the wine club. Sometimes we come for the pick up party which is really fun, with h'orderves and lots of tasting. They have a really cool tasting room that is special for the members, it is quiet and relaxing for tasting and you can bring a couple friends with you too. We like the wines especially the Cotes de Paso, which now they call CDP although I think Cotes de Paso is a better name, sorry. We are fans of red wine so I can't speak for the whites as I have not tried them. So many wineries in this town but this is definitely one of our favorites. Everyone there is very friendly too.

By far the most beautiful tasting room we visited on our trip to Paso Robles. We had an excellent server for our wine tasting...very informative and willing to answer any and all questions. Did not do the winery tour but that will be on our next trip. Wide variety of excellent wines so make sure you stop here.

Beautiful tasting room and wonderful wines. Club members can customize their club shipments. This is the exception to the norm and that's why I belong. That and the fact the wine is great.

We didn't spend nearly enough time here. Every wine we tasted was fantastic! Very much into eco-practices becoming more so all the time. Everyone we talked to was knowledgeable about the wine and were very friendly. They have several tour options that we are looking forward to returning for. Go Here!!!

Halter Ranch was a recommendation from the Sea Chest restaurant hostess. We hadn't planned to do any more wine tasting but decided at the last minute to make the drive. It was worth it! We visited Dec. 30. Cathy was our server. The tasting fee is waived on purchase. The 2012 Sauvignon Blanc is $19, the 2011 Cab Sauvignon is $32 and the 2010 Syrah is $32. Wines this good at this price confirmed to me that Daou is over priced. Halter Ranch is a ranch and we heard the chickens as we drove up. I recommend this winery for it's great wines and comfortable tasting room.

Great environment to bring your packed picnic and enjoy your friends and GSM or CDP. The member lounge is more private and more personable vice the winery space. So if you do want a more social experience, visit the building on the right.

My husband and I took a winter getaway to the Paso Robles wine region. We'd been tasting at Halter Ranch Vineyards before, and love their wines, so decided on this trip to do the 3 hour excursion tour. OMG...fabulous!! Our guide was Ray--SO amazing in his extensive knowledge and fun delivery of the area facts, history, birds, wildlife and of course Halter Ranch philosophy and wine specifics. It is the best U.S. winery experience we've had--and we've done many! Besides that the place is GORGEOUS and the rest of the staff great. Halter Ranch in spite of being probably one of the larger wineries in the area, both in acreage and production, has not lost sight of their stewardship to the planet, while producing really wonderful wines. Your trip to the Paso Robles wine country isn't complete without a visit to this very special place.

There was a wedding happening the day we visited Halter Ranch so we did not get to experience the covered bridge entrance. The grounds were beautiful and the tasting room affords great viewing of the property. We enjoyed our tasting and even left with some wine. Will try again on next visit to Paso area!

This was one of my favorites loved their cabaret Sauvignon. Beautiful vineyards I just loved the views!!

We visited on a Saturday and had the best service from our wine steward. His knowledge of not only the wines, how they are made and the history of the area were impressive.
We never felt rushed either.
At the restaurant, the food was very good.

Their wines were the highlight of our first day of wine tasting in Paso. Ancestor wine was superb, the Block 22 Syrah was delish and my wife LOVED the Cuvee Alice. Beautiful grounds and wonderful service. Definitely worth a visit.

These folks know how to do it right! This was our first visit since completion of their new facility. We took the tour, and it was quite enjoyable. Very modern, a far cry from the days of the "little ol' winemaker." Our guide and tasting room host was superb, and the wines quite good. Great facility. We joined their wine club.

We are wine club members because we enjoy the relaxing facility so very much. We plan our wine club shipment pick up with a late morning tasting and then lunch.

Servers are really friendly and the tasting room is spacious. Large windows so you can look out onto the vineyard. There was live music when we were there and we had a good time. Outside seating for small or big groups are great overlooking the vineyards.

We were here for Harvest weekend. They had tastings in the cool barn along with yummy bbq sliders and salad so we took advantage of that for our lunch. The property is rustic and relaxing with a covered bridge and nice grounds. We enjoyed the wine, too!

If you are out in this part of town it's a must visit. Huge property. Country feel and country home when you first drive in then you follow the signs to the tasting room. Across a very cool covered wooden bridge and through an automatic gate. Ahead are 2 huge modern buildings. The one on the right is the tasting room. Plenty of space and plenty of tasting tables. The guy helping us actually moved us to the other side of the room so we could taste with the nice view and it not to our backs. Very good touch. Floor to ceiling windows. Greats views of the vineyard. Wines were great. They offer free cave and winery tours which I'll be back for. Sounds like fun.

This was our first visit to halter ranch. We enjoyed all the wines available for tasting that day, and the grounds and tasting room were beautiful! This winery offers several types of tours for those that are interested in those sorts of things: cave tours, grounds excursion, etc. We will definitely back and plan to do the grounds excursion.

I wanted to check out this place because of its long history and wine cave tour that was available. The property was beautiful and newly remodeled SIP certified buildings were amazing! It definitely did not disappoint. I went with my 3 cousins and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the entire cave/barrel taking tour learning about the history or Halter Ranch and tasting great wine. Ray was our guide and he was very knowledgable. My cousin ended up joining the wine club so we definitely be back for the jeep tour.

The drive into this winery is lovely, through a covered bridge, up a hill, and the tasting room is lovely. We shared a tasting, as this was a long day of winery tastings, and are happy to say the wines were very good. The winery has a very interesting story, and the staff were all lovely.

I was born and raised in Paso Robles and I am very proud of my hometown. I am proud that Paso Robles has become a destination that people are talking about for its beauty and charm. Although Halter Ranch showcases the beauty of Paso Robles, it lacks to display the true charm of Paso Robles. The service that we received was possibly the worst service I have ever experienced. Usually, I can over look bad service at restaurants and tasting rooms but this cannot be overlooked. Our tasting room attendant did not smile once and when our group of 7 tried to have small conversations with her, she was very rude and had a cold chip on her shoulder. This being said... If you are visiting Paso Robles and really want to experience the true charm of Paso Robles, you might consider driving by Halter Ranch and visiting a few other wineries like Opolo, Sculpterra Winery, and Whalebone Winery.

Lovely setting and damn good wine for the price - in my mind the best value in Paso wines (and I've had a lot of them). I'm a member of their wine club & wouldn't think of giving it up!

This winery is in a lovely setting. There is a covered bridge, a completely restored old Victorian home and just completed new tasting room. This is all in a setting of lovely views of the surrounding Paso Robles hills and vineyards. The wines are excellent, especially the blends, and are fairly priced. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There are tours available if you have time.

My husband and I visited over the Labor Day weekend. The winery is beautiful, but we both felt rushed through the whole wine tasting experience. Our server was not knowledgeable about the wines and was eager to pour and get us out of there as soon as possible. I enjoy hearing about the wines and vintages, but did not get that experience here.

I am surprised at some of the mediocre reviews, we went with another couple and all four of us loved this place for many reasons. Take the tour, it is an interesting place especially if you have an engineer, architect or construction person in your party. There are both new and older aspects of the land and quite a bit of history as well.
All of us really enjoy their wines. A new tasting room was almost complete when we visited so we will be back soon.

Halter Ranch has matured like fine wine. Their new "vista" tasting room is wonderful and their wines have matured in taste and stature to become some of the best in the region. A fun social spot

After discovering an amazing Halter Ranch wine (Ancestor) the evening before while dining at Artisan in Paso Robles, we decided to visit this winery. We were greeted by Joseph, who spent the next 45 minutes carefully taking us through the flight of delicious Halter Ranch wines. Joseph was extremely well informed about the wines and the wine making process, and made our visit thoroughly enjoyable. We also discovered some amazing wines. Make sure to put this gem on your list of wineries to visit. The setting is breathtaking and the staff and wines are wonderful!

We decided to try some new winery's this trip and Halter Ranch was suggested by someone we met. We were impressed. The wine was excellent. We ended up joining their wine club. The winery was beautiful and they offer some very interesting tours. The employees were interesting, informed, and very friendly. They made our experience just that much nicer! Try it! I think you will also be impressed

Halter Ranch makes great wines and the tasting room experience showcased them. Had an excellent server (Dianna?). Magnificent views of the vineyards.

The drive out to Harkin Ranch lulls you into the peacefulness of this part of the West side of Paso. You enter next to the old farmhouse, but continue up to the covered bridge. Drive slowly and the gates open for the drive up the hill to the tasting room (stay left, then right for parking). The wines are worthy of any fine cellar, the CDP especially! Bring along a picnic to enjoy at the lovely patio at the back of the tasting room. Please tell me they fire up the Santa Maria style BBQ or pizza oven on the weekends---I will be back!

We stop here every time we're in Paso Robles and are never disappointed. Some of the best wines we've tasted in the area, consistently good. Our sommelier today, Joseph, was very knowledgable and engaging. The have a lovely venue here with a nice sitting area and patio beyond the tasting room. Tours are available. They're very sustainable in their approach and environmentally friendly as well. Definitely highly recommend.

Wine trail travelers who have seen Napa and Sonoma may be surprised at finding there are over 300 wineries in and around Paso Robles located in California's Central Coast region. Many of these are small family owned operations. More often than not they feature blends of varietals other than "the usual suspects:" cabs, merlots, chards and zins. Unusual Rhone or Italian grapes find themselves at home in the Paso AVA's on both the east and west sides of Highway 101..
Roads to the west are mostly two lane and wind through beautiful hill country. Some wineries are perched on top of hills and others are lower down often near creeks. Halter Ranch is one of these. Coming onto it from Adelaida Road or Vineyard Drive is a surprise. A large Victorian ranch house is set on spacious grounds with lots of parking and a tasting room that gives the visitor room to spread out. Lindsay, our hostess led us through a course of tastings from light chilled whites to heavier bodies reds. She was most knowledgeable and anticipated our needs before we were aware of them. We're wine geeks and she was up on her technical answers as well. All in all I would call Halter Ranch a destination spot to visit. It's comfortable and low key. It just fits the Paso Robles wine region.

We have been to quite a few wineries in the area but never took the time to go to Halter before and found out what we have been missing. They serve some very good reds and have a beautiful tasting room and area around them. They look first class and have very congenial people to present their wines, a place well worth the visit.

We stopped here late in the afternoon, a bit tired from the day (and 90 degree heat). But once inside, the wines were the star of the tasting. The size and breadth of the operation is quite impressive. We only regret that we hadn't signed up for one of their tours, check them out online in advance. Definitely a good winery to have on your tasting list.

We went to the winery mostly because we were interested in their sustainable practices and modern tasting room and production hall. All the tours for that day were reserved, but they still managed to put us on the following tour. We did the tasting first. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. From the wines we really liked the Cabernet. The rest not so much. After the tasting we did the tour. Their cutting edge facility is impressive and the Cave is spectacular.

We stopped at Halter Ranch Vineyard on a recent visit the Paso Robles. The wine selection at the tasting was good. My particular favorite was the CDP. Halter Ranch has added a small kitchen. We shared a cheese plate while tasting the wines. There is a garden area in the back where you can take your wines or food.

The staff at Halter Ranch Vineyard set the stage for a phenomenal experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The entire team creates a great environment for wine tasting and tours.
The wines are amazing. My favorites are the Syrah and the Tempranillo.
The Halter Ranch tour is amazing. I love the green environment and the history of the ranch.
If you have only one vineyard choice to visit, go to Halter Ranch Vineyard.

Halter Ranch is a beautiful place. It is a long drive from a major freeway. The vineyard website states that you must book ahead for large parties, so we did. Upon arrival we let the server know that only six of us would be tasting because the other two would be our designated drivers. The 6 of us tasted wine. We bought wine. We asked if we could be refunded for the two that didn't drink and the answer was no.
I just felt like is was a way to grab a little extra cash. In the end, it was not busy and we didn't need to make a reservation.

We visited the winery / ranch during fall harvest fest weekend and took the ranch tour. AMAZING ! We rode in 4x4 SUV's and toured the entire ranch, the guides stopped at key places and poured wines for us while providing some history about the ranch and the wines. The tour ended up at their tasting room where our guide poured several wines and we enjoyed the whites and reds so much that we joined their wine club !
This is a must for wine lovers !

This is our first time at Halter Ranch-we found it through trip advisor and yelp and decided to try it. We're glad we did. We signed up for a tour with Nick - there were 7 in our party and Nick was a great host. The Victorian, the bridge, the barn, the new winery - all well done! It's a great thing that the wines were also good as we really wanted to visit the member lounge next time. We ended up with two new members before we left, and lounged at their patio seating for lunch. I highly recommend this winery and a tour with Nick.

My wife and I stopped here for a tasting and like the wines however there was nothing that was that outstanding. The tasting room itself was also nice but nothing made it stand out.

We have been visiting Paso Robles since 2003, and belong to several wine clubs. Halter Ranch is one of our most recent, and one of our favorites. First, their wine is excellent, well, well worth the price point. Second, their Members Tasting Room, Wine Camp, Vineyard Tours, Bridge Dinners, etc. are amazing. The owner has resources and wants to use them in a sustainable, employee-friendly, spectacular product way. We have seen vineyards in Paso Robles rise (and sadly fall). This is a vineyard on the rise!

My husband and I recently visited Halter Ranch and were impressed with the tasting room and grounds. Halter Ranch has an expansive tasting room and although they do make a point to publicly announce the members only space, their non-member space is pretty welcoming, too. Others that have commented on the differentiation was not apparent when we visited mid-week. I don't agree with the feeling others have expressed. Our visit one similar. The pourer we had was nice but did not know his product line.
The wines at least for our taste ranked as good but nothing that stood out. We rated them three stars, one for tasting room, one for good wine and one for grounds. A four or five star is for exceptional customer service, knowledge of the product and better that good wine.

The staff was great the wine was average- not wow. Beautiful locale though. Small tasting room. Very clean bathrooms which was nice!

Halter Ranch is one of the larger producers in PR and it's very popular. The tasting room is large, and they do a set, five-wine flight. The pourer who served me was quite knowledgeable about wines, and knew a good bit about HR's holdings, varietals, history, etc. I found the wines themselves to be OK, but not great. Ended up buying a bottle of the 100% syrah, which -- as in most local wineries -- made the tasting complimentary. Nice view from the tasting room, and I heard good things about the tours, which are offered only on a limited basis.

If you're wine tasting on the Westside of Paso Robles, do not miss a stop at Halter Ranch. The scenery is gorgeous, the wines glorious, and we were treated impeccably. Bob served our group, was informative, gave us history of the winery, as well as specific tidbits about each wine we tasted. Adored the whites, but the reds were extraordinary -- particularly the 2018 CDP (Cotes de Paso) which is a GSM with a small percentage of Tannat. Also loved the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is not 100% Cabernet, but Cabernet dominant with Malbec and Petit Verdot. Enjoy this stop!

I brought my daughter and friend here. We had a very informative tour of the winery and caves. The new tasting room is beautiful! The staff was friendly. We enjoyed our trip so much that we are planning a second visit!

I wish we had had more time here! It's a beautiful and peaceful place, full of history. We enjoyed our wine tasting very much. I am usually not a Cabernet Sauvignon fan, but loved theirs. We just missed their cave tour, but next time we won't. They also have a tour of the property where you can taste wine along the way. I have done many different wine tastings in different wine regions and would rank as one if my favorites! I'll be back. Cheers!!

We made advance reservations and when we arrived, they did not have a record of it. Kelly went out of her way to accommodate us. We were served by Dawn who was very knowledgeable about the history of Halter Ranch and the wines. She was also very personable and friendly. The wines, especially the reds were very good. My favorite was the CDP which had a great nose and flavor. I highly recommend a visit to Halter Ranch.

Sampled their wines. While my preference was their Cabernet Savignon and the Ancestor blend, all their wines are very good. Their new tasting facility is very impressive, and their level of service is exceptional. I recommend giving this winery and their wines a try.

We had not been to Halter since 2014. They hugely upgraded the facility and it's now a terrific destination with dynamite wines...we will NOT repeat the mistake and let the years pass again without enjoying this site again...a food and wine pairing delight!

We had a winery and cave tour with Sara; she was exceptional. Very interesting and informative. The extensive cave system is amazing. Halter Ranch is meticulously maintained and the wines are superb. Highly recommend a visit!

This is just a little bit of Paradise. Nice size tasting room, and the there are great areas to sit out, even have a picnic.

The wine room was beautiful and roomy! Tall glass walls with amazing view from every angle! The wines were diverse and all five in our party found something we enjoyed.

Really amazing tasting room, fantastic views out over the vineyards. Very friendly and informative host, relaxed and fun atmosphere. Not stuffy or any pressure to buy......which meant we did buy.

First time there and the reserve wines are ok. Lovely picnic area. Rest the wines so so...but as they say wines are subjective.

Used to be pet-friendly, now isn't. Too bad as we really like their wine and the food is rather good as well. Used to enjoy the original house and tasting room but now only members get access to that. Still the new, larger facility is very nice. But no pets? Forget about it!

The wine was great and Brice was excellent! We learned the history of the area and the Vinyard. He shared his love of the area and the efforts to conserve the natural beauty of the indigenous oak trees. He told us some of the aspects of dry farming and it’s influence on the wine. We even asked about the beautiful covered bridge we passed coming up to the property to which he shared its origins. Great trip, great friends & great times.

We had hoped to take the longer excursion tour but recent rains forced the winery to cancel that. We ended up taking the tour of the winery-you'd never know from viewing the winery along the road that a very new, state of the art facility awaited us. The tour was wonderful - we were able to do a barrel tasting that compared the same wine aged in four different oaks which was truly educational and fun. The tasting room is beautiful with good views and we enjoyed several of their wines. I appreciated hearing that the owner has set aside so much acreage for preservation -I'll look forward to a drier month when we can tour the property. I also appreciated that the winery participated in the art event "cow parade". Well definitely be back.

This winery is off the typical146 route. It is a little ways out on Adelaida Rd but it is well worth it. They have a new tasting room. The tasting area has a breath taking view of the vines and the hills outside of the room. It has lots of atmosphere and it is very welcoming. There is a quaint covered bridge house leading into the winery. Take the time to work your way out here.

A truly unique, while large, winery. Owned by a very wealthy German no expense is spared. The public tasting room is spectacular. The members area is like a private club. The wines excellent. Highly recommended.

During our trip to Paso Robles, we booked the Excursion tour and tasting for our first time visit at Halter Ranch...and it was one of the best tour/tasting we ever had. We had Ready and Jess and they were phenomenal and made everything so enjoyable. The wine tastings were paired with great views of the enormous estate! I highly recommend their Cabarnet Sauvignon! It was so good, we bought 2 bottles!
Thank you Halter Ranch for a great time, the great views, and the great guides!

Our last stop for wineries, we had come from a lackluster experience at Justin’s after being swarmed by wasps while having lunch. We were hot and irritated. Halter Ranch proved to end our day on a high point. Although there was miscommunication about which entrance we were supposed to use. They sad us under the oaks they had a nice seared area out of the heat. We all enjoyed a ice glass of wine and even had their ice cream sandwiches which were delicious. We tried their strawberry basil and lime and the mint chip chocolate ice cream sandwhiches. Their grounds are gorgeous we did not get to stay in the restaurant which sits on the center of their property, all wood modern style. They have a bridge on their property which is gorgeous for photos but was not in use for that day they had a wedding. There is a chefs garden, and train track and a small airstrip for the owner I guess who knows. Not a pretentious vibe among anyone there it was comfortable and relaxing. The singer they have playing though he needed some help in the vocals but luckily we tuned that out. They do require reservations for tastings and have different location you can do tastings at on their property.

"Taste leader" was very well versed in the Halter wines. We tried a variety of reds and whites and ended with a superb dessert wine. It was the first wine that I finished to the last drop rather than dumping in the bucket.

We took the walking tour of the vineyard and then a tour of the winery and caves. The walking tour of the vines was fun, and informative; we highly recommend it. Its great to be a billionaire so you can put in a scale railroad on your property! The valley is beautiful and they are taking good care of the land. The winery is state of art and a lot of time went into planning it. The staff was friendly and knowledgable. The best part is that the all of the wine was delicious!

Nice vineyard with two tasting options (small servings) with a very knowledgeable waiter handling our table. We also had the cheese platter and it didn't disappoint. The tastying area could've been better designed with all of it facing the vineyard (it is located in towards the back with most tables not having a view to the vineyard). An enjoyable visit.

This is an enchanted place. An old Victorian home, a covered bridge, a spectacular tasting roo with long cool caves. Not to mention the best of Paso Robles wines with a friendly knowledgeable staff. Tour through the vineyards too

The winery is located west of Paso Robles. We got a reservation and was able to wine taste and eat lunch on their patio with our dog. The patio and grounds were beautiful. The lunch menu varied from a great salad to hamburgers and other entrees. All the food was delicious. The lady that did the wine tasting was excellent. She was very knowledgeable, made it all very interesting, answered questions so well. This is one of the best places for lunch and wine tasting in the area.

Halter Ranch was not on our list of wineries for the day but we were hungry and heard they had a lovely pizza and salad patio which sounded great! The grounds are lovely, the pizza oven was turning out several varieties of yummy cooked to order pies to try to keep up with demand, and their wines are also delicious and of very good quality. It was a worthwhile stop and one of the top wineries we visited that weekend. They offer tours and understand they have a private area for wine club members...

This place has a spectacular view and is very nice to sit and drink wine. They have great spaces indoors and out to enjoy the wine and the views.

Awesome piloting get away. Food and wine are good. Pilot cottages are secluded, well furnished and surround by some fun things to pass the time (swimming, horseshoes, a unique swing).
Margaret was an excellent host. Welcoming and helped shuttle bags back and forth.
A fun place to fly in and relax.

After going all the way out to Justin winery, the salesman told us to go to Halter Ranch. It was a beautiful venue. Huge wine tasting area, with many inside inside and outside choices to sit as well as a fireplace outside. The wine was nice and we enjoyed just sipping it and soaking in some sunshine.

Excellent winery with very nice picnic grounds. Tasting presentation done very well and wines are decent. Would visit again.

OH MY GOD YOU HAVE TO TRY THE ROSÉ! (and then buy a case). Brandon (bless his heart), somehow, was able to entertain us and educate us on all of Halter Ranch's fabulous wines. I mean, they were all absolutely delightful, but that ROSÉ, I'll be dreaming about that bottle when mine is gone. They have a new wine tasting room and outdoor patio that has views to die for. If it's too hot outside, just taste inside and you will feel like you are outside with these wonderfully huge, clear windows of theirs, imported from Canada. Why do I know they are from Canada? Well, because Brandon told us of course! Great educator of wine and architecture that one is. Don't miss out on this awesome winery!

Really enjoyed the wines here. Nice property to stroll around on. And very informative staff. They have a tour of the property you can do, we didn't have time for it this time around, but will surely do it next time!

I would give Halter Ranch a 4.5 rating. I am not giving a 5-star rating because I feel that Paul did not disclose and discuss their wine membership info and then he teased us about the wines that they cannot pour specifically the Picpoul Sparkling wine. I feel that this is moot information since I cannot taste or buy it. How about if I wanted to join the membership? I feel that Paul should have initiated this. Mind you: I am in the wine industry as well. Yet..I am still (of course) contemplating about joining HRV since I really do love their wine...we will see.
BUT Paul was simply amazing and knowledgeable who served me and my co-worker. What I appreciated about Paul is not only that he discussed about their extensive wine list, in a very succinct (not pedantic and high-fallutin) way, he also expressed the stories of the vineyard, the sustainable practice, the 700+ year old Ancestor Oak,the flora and fauna of the vineyard, and the proprietor Wyss's environmental conscious practice and venture. The tasting room is simply gorgeous. The view of the vineyard is breathtaking. I love the fact that their tasting menu is not cumbersome and bulky to handle and not too dizzying to look at. I appreciated the fact that they have this tiny map of their grapes and location. All wineries should have physical tiny maps so I personally know where the grapes are coming from. I highly recommend this winery and their wines. Paul is simply knowledgeable, friendly, and a great story-teller. He was professionally yet casually and comfortably dressed (one of the female wine associates was not properly dressed in my opinion).

Beautiful setting and GREAT wines! We also enjoyed a private catered meal with a large group and the Ranch staff pulled off an outstanding job serving so many guests. I highly recommend this venue for any groups or weddings. They have a beautifully new bride and groom private dressing room. The location is superb.

Our tour was with Ashley and she was very knowledgeable about the history of the property, the current owner, and the wine making process. The tour lasted about an hour and then we were allowed to taste six (normally five!) of their wines. We ended up buying two bottles of the wines we preferred. The tour was only $10 per person but we were refunded that fee if we bought wine. Well worth the time and money. Just finished off the cabernet tonight!

They have this incredible window, one of the larges in the world, with great views as you taste some good wines. The tasting room staff was young and enthusiastic, but not that knowledgeable about the wines or the varietals. Overall still a great experience, bought some wine, and will go back.

We were able to experience this beautiful vineyard with its exquisite architecture, landscape, and, of course, their wines. Ray and Noah gave our group an informative tour of the production facilities and the underground caves dug into the hill. Impressive! The winery is mostly self-sufficient with state of the art equipment such as roof top water collection and evaporation sensors. The owner is a Swiss octogenarian who is also a land conservationist. How wonderful, especially given the current government's agenda.
The wines were exquisite and I signed up for the Club. There is even a special lounge for members where one can pair the wines with charcuterie. This is definitely one of the more exclusive venues.

Visited by local recommendation. Despite its size and notoriety it is absolutely worth visiting. Did not feel like a larger vinyard. Would have bought a few bottles but will order due to limited space traveling/ shipping.
We had exceptional service and the blended reds were very good.
Also nice picnic grounds and sold some snacks like cheese, crackers, ect.
Worth the trip

Karla, our wine expert, toured us in the cave and treated us to a fabulous private wine tasting of reserve and library wines, also tasted with a charcuterie tray. Learned so much and found it was one of the highlights or our trip to CA. Tasted a 2016 Rose, 2007 Cab Sav, 2012 Syrah, 2016 Ancestor and a 2015 Tannat. Karla truly knew her wine info and also was a great conversationalist about all things Halter Wine and wines in general. We finished with a barrel tasting of their 2017 Syrah, which blew our socks off!! Cant wait till that one is bottled and available! An excellent and memorable experience. That's what its about- life experiences!!

If you're willing to take a little drive I would strongly recommend checking out Holter ranch. The red wines are fantastic in particular ancestor would be one that you must try. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable in the grounds are very comfortable for enjoying a glass or two of wine. They also have a very good wine club if you're interested in joining.

This review is for our March 2019 visit (yes a bit late). We visited during Zinfandel weekend. Hansjörg Wyss has built a legacy in the Paso Robles area and for me this is a must visit winery everytime I come to CA to visit family. My family are members here and we have completed every tour available except the horseback tour. We can't wait to ride the train!
At every turn Halter Ranch is finding ways to be more sustainable. When we visited in March 2019 they had just finished planting hundreds of Olive trees they saved from a farm that was going to bulldoze them to plant something else. The entire area is beautiful and on our vineyard tour when we stopped at the Ancestor Oak, they had a "pot of gold" there. Since it was close to St Patrick's day, they had a cooler full of Light and Dark beer waiting for us. The vineyard tour can get pretty strenuous so if you are considering it, this is your warning.
We enjoy their wine, and they have very beautiful facilities. I cant wait to see what the future holds for Halter Ranch.

I rarely post negative reviews but I also believe that honesty is how this community thrives right?
Halter ranch has perhaps one of the most beautiful tasting rooms I've ever seen. Floor to ceiling windows allow you to see outside into vast beautiful vineyards.
However, the wines were not all that and the service was sub-par. We felt as if they didn't really care for our purchase. They weren't rude, it was just like "whatever". So we wouldn't recommend this place but like I said, it's a beautiful place if that's what you dig.

Beautiful new tasting room just opened a month ago. We were amazed how big their production facility was. Had a great tour led by Noah. And Joel was friendly and knowledgeable as he did our tastings. They had a small area with some picnic items for sale. Great outdoor patio to sit and enjoy a glass or bottle of wine. Good wines too! We'll be back!

Did the Excursion tour with friends today. They had issue with their computer so was overbooked. Very accommodating- they got another vehicle so we had 10 visitors and 2 guides. Marguerite and Paul did a great job. Lots of history shared and tasted many good wines. Great value for the $55 pp price. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed a Saturday afternoon tasting. Tasted an array of reds and enjoyed the surroundings. Nice outside seating overlooking the vineyards. Nice relaxing place to spend an hour or two. My favorite was the Cab.

We were in the Paso Robles area, visiting several wineries that had been recommended. Halter Ranch had not been one of them, but we stopped in anyway and I'm so glad we did. The tasting room was not crowded and we had Ray as our host. He was very knowledgeable about all the wines and is a chef to boot so gave us some tips on what food to serve with each wine. We liked every single wine we tasted, both white and red, which is extremely unusual for us. We were so impressed that we even joined their wine club! We had come from Tablas Creek which I would skip next time in lieu of Halter Ranch. They are very eco-conscious to boot and store and use their own water and the winery is a built around a gravitational system. Just a great place all around!

Quite a morning, drinking wine a 10:30 AM. Have not been here in several years, a few changes hav been made to the property. The new Tasting Room on the hillside is the gorgeous. Large picture windows with views to the North, vines nearly touching the glass. The two boars were first spotted by Pammie, coming down from the top of the hill, down though the rows. Our host/ server got a nice pair of binoculars and allowed us to watch their progress. Several minutes with both of them heading somewhere at a good pace. The wines were good, purchased a couple of bottles, tasting fee was $20.00. Yes, they can afford to improve the property with these fees.

We took a winery & cave tour of the Halter Ranch Vineyard and it was a great experience. The production facilities here are state of the art, and quite different from some of the smaller boutique wineries we visited. That's not better or worse, just different, and that made it very informative to see the differences between the various styles in the process. The property itself is breathtaking; hidden in the midst of the soft rolling hills of oak savannah & grapevines with an old Victorian farmhouse and outbuildings on property. You will feel like you're in the old west waiting for the next Wells Fargo wagon to roll by. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and informative. The wines were top notch, which almost seems like a side note to the structures and grounds that are so beautiful. I truthfully couldn't mention anything negative about this place at all, and I enjoyed every one of the wines we tasted which is something I can rarely say about other wineries. Visit some of the small wineries (Calcareous & Law are two to be recommended), but take some extra time at Halter Ranch to take in the environment and enjoy their wines.

Wow, this place is unbelievable. Loved the wine tasting and bought 4 bottles to take home. As you stand and taste wines, there is a large window that lets you view the beautiful vineyards.
The outside of the building is just beautiful. The stone is cut perfectly to fin in place with minimal grout. This would be a wonderful place for a wedding ceremony. One of my favorite wineries in Paso Robles!

We are so glad we stopped at Halter Ranch! This was by far one of our favorite wineries in the Paso area. The winery itself is beautiful, and the wines were fantastic! We ended up joining the wine club and cannot wait to return to attend one of their famed dinners in their old, historic barn.

great place to stop, a little out of the way but the grounds are amazing, they wine was good and staff(Tony) was very friendly and educated us on the region, history of the property and wine making.
We have visited here several times (though we live close to Napa/Sonoma. LOVE the rural country setting with heritage oaks, Victorian farm house, and friendly tasting room staff. There are several places to take your tasting glass outside and enjoy the lovely setting. One patio is overflowing with hummingbirds buzzing about. Beautiful!
Their wines are also the BEST we had in two days of tasting at about 7 other places.
