The store is lovely upon entering the area with prepared foods, bakery items, etc. The produce area is lovely too. We enjoyed browsing and exploring the store. Fun place to go if you have time.

It has been a challenge as a traveler to find a good market downtown but this doesn’t really merit such high ratings. I was expecting some fantastic architectural market and found it is really just a round food court. Beer selection is very limited (didn’t check out the wine) and market has some nice fruit at a high price. If you are passing by great but don’t bother to drive there special and park like I did … so not worth it.

By BILLIE F |

Heinen's has been around for 90 years! Congratulations! This is my spot for groceries and prepared foods!

By Laurel H |

Came to check out the architecture of the grocery store, very unique setting.
The area in the rotunda is an amazing salad bar, prepared foods, butcher etc. Upper level is a wine bar and they also sell micro brewery beer.
There is also a regular grocery store area.
We picked up dinner and took it back to our hotel that night.
Worth stopping to take a look at.

By J Meiring B |

Love taking a walk down to the store and getting my lunch during the week. Great selection and very friendly staff.

By Nicholas M |

Outside you would never know this place has so much flavor and so many great smells. Stopped in to check out the craft beer selection upstairs, the wines and beers they have to try there are excellent and range from thrifty to 80 bucks a 5 oz pour so you'll find something here. The food below looks and tastes equally amazing, the grocery store that is in back is almost hidden and secondary to the things in the main hall. Very cool place and would have never stumbled on that just looking at the outside.

By Paul A |

Yes, it is simply a grocery store, but placed inside an old bank building with a gigantic dome to shock you when entering. Worth the 5 minute stop.

By kathy y |

History was made when they turned this into Heinens! You get to sample Tasty Wines & then shop or eat in there food court. Anything you want right at your fingers! Simply Elegant & Beautiful all in 1 place! Thanks! PS Still wearing the yummy deserts too!

By wiley7967 |

interesting. Unique grocery story. Be sure to read the plaques on building history and visit the balcony wine section

By Katherine M |

I was staying at the Metropolitan on the 9 and this place is actually part of the property. It was a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. Super variety of foods, fresh and reasonable priced. Bonus on the second level is a wine and beer tasting venue And a huge inventory of wines to buy

By Henry I |

Gotta stop into this place just to take a whiff of the food! It’s got a ton of good things there -- fresh foods, meats and fish -- but there is also a surprisingly plethora of other staple items as well as exotic ones.

By Emily H |

I have been to the Heinen's Downtown many times - sometimes to grab a few grocery items, others to get lunch that is fresh, healthy and fast. But my favorite visits have been to their beer and wine tastings held on the 2nd level in the rotunda. The beer and wine staff does an excellent job of putting together tastings that are diverse, but fit within themes that allow people to explore their specific interests. Tastings are reasonably priced, and the crowds there are always friendly. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Come for the architecture, but stay for the food and drink!

just groceries. nothing to write about except difficult to get to with limited parking. nice for the locals. stay away.

By Barbara S |

The people at Heinen's have done a wonderful job restoring this historic gem. I enjoy going in to look up at the paintings in the dome - it makes me feel like I am shopping in some European shop. Best is to have a drink and sit upstairs close to the paintings and admire them while watching people below shopping. Prepared food selection to eat on premise (or take for a picnic by the lake) is nice and diverse, prices are not jacked up because of the location. Our company takes people to see this store when they are in town and we are located in the suburbs. Worth the time if you are in the area!

By Likestolive |

We were told to be sure and drop in and look at the store. OH MY, if you're in Cleveland and miss this place...I am sorry. It is housed in a fascinating old bank building. You MUST try the pastries. To die for, I kid you not.

By Ana L |

As a piece of historical arquitectural, amazing! As a convenient location for breakfast, lunch or dinner, fantastic choices!

By Margaret |

Glorious fresh and prepared foods for urban residents, with a fun wine and beer tasting area on the circular mezzanine overlooking the market.

By chefbaby2013 |

The building is beautiful and it has a great grocery selection. The deli was average, but had a nice selection to just grab and go and eat in your hotel. It’s nice to have a full grocery nearby in a downtown district.

By Darthbarron |

Downstairs grocery and upstairs wine tasting. Great concept. Had the opportunity to taste wines that were $200 bottle buy use of a debit card. Bought food downstairs and ate upstairs. More relaxing than any bar. Easy walking distance of many downtown hotels

By Naphtali H |

Heinen's is o be congratulated for perserving this great old building Probably the most beautiful full service supermarket in the US. Nice wine and beer shop on the second floor, with tastings, a happy hour and regular events. Good take out and catering menu.

We had heard of this place last year after our annual convention and couldn’t wait to visit it this year. And we were more than pleased. If you are looking for your typical sit-down get-waited-on “restaurant”, this isn’t for you. However, it’s EXACTLY what we were looking for.

Super quiet, cozy place to eat whatever you purchased at the deli. Sushi, small soup station and plenty of prepared cold foods you can heat up in the microwave if you wish.

This was where we purchased our lunch for the next days convention. Super convenient!

Upstairs (elevator in this place) is a help-yourself wine bar as well as a few beers on draft and hundreds of labels of wine by the bottle. (Beers too). There was a cork fee at the time of our visit of $10 unless the bottle price was over $20 then that fee is waved. However, the bottle can’t be taken out the door so plan on having friends with you to finish it.

We are already planning to eat here next year two of the three days during our convention stay. The other day is at the Saigon just down the street. (I wrote a review on that as well)

Located at the corner of (th & Euclid. Walking distance to many hotels and appartments in the area. Fresh vegetables and meats. Unique store once the Main headquartes for Cleveland Tust Bank. Don't want to shop just visit and look at the archictecture beauty Walk to Progressive field and the "Q"

By George A |

the rotunda at the entrance to this one of a kind grocery store is breathtaking in its beauty. It contains a balcony where you can sit and eat and drink your lunch while surrounded by this iconic beauty. the ceiling mural is worth a visit just for itself. this was once the Cleveland Trust Bank and some of its features are still visable-the vault in the wine section is beautiful. Oh. by the way, this is a full service grocery and state liquor store besides.

By rougetraveler |

I love the salad bars, soups, and $5 sushi Wednesdays. And good place to do a quick & easy grocery for tonight's dinner. Don';t miss the architecture for the food tho. Make sure to look up!

By CreativeK |

Visited while in Cleveland on business and they have everything! Great salad and lunch options but also full grocery store.. needed organic dairy free yogurt and they actually had it 👍🏼

By Baxter97 |

This is a great place to go for lunch or dinner. So many different foods to choose from and there is wine and beer available as well. It is a grocery store as well in downtown Cleveland.

By 1GiantsMSo |

A great store with to-go food options. Very convenient walk from our hotel for snacks, a light meal, and ICE CREAM. The staff was all friendly and willing to help find items. Lots of seating for food and a wonderful wine selection on the second floor. Highly recommend if in the area.

By eben8868 |

I dare you to find a more beautiful shopping store in any downtown city anywhere in the country. Having lunch there is what downtown is all about.

By JTokar |

Heinen's is located inside the former Cleveland Trust Building...the rotunda is remarkable. And the selection of groceries is really good too!

By Brenda B |

While staying downtown Cleveland, we came upon Heinens. What a fabulous time spent exploring and relaxing at this upscale grocery store! Beautiful old bank converted into a store. The deli, bakery, salads and prepared foods were delectable. So many choices! After making a selection and paying for it, you can go to the second level to eat, enjoy some wine or beer and just relax the afternoon. The associates were fantastic: Cathy, Dom, Lisa, Robert; just to name a few.
Allow plenty of time if visiting.

By Mike D |

A definitely stop for lunch downtown in Cleveland. Whatever your tastes or dietary restrictions, they have something for you.

By EGAD3469 |

If you are in downtown at lunchtime this is a must stop. An amazing variety of food in a very interesting setting.

By Angus C |

Was recently in Cleveland for a short visit and was taken to Heinen's mostly to see the wonderful revitalization and repurposing of the 1908 Cleveland Trust Company building. The architecture is stunning and the imagination to use this as a multilevel high end grocery store is superlative. The range of foods was amazing and what was really great was the second floor gallery where you can sit and have a glass or bottle of wine while munching on snacks from downstairs and enjoy the rapture of the Tiffany dome. If I lived nearby it would be my regular spot to shop and enjoy the rehabilitation of downtown Cleveland - WOW

By Kelli G |

Really cool market with beautiful architecture. We went to the second floor and bought some beer suggested to us by a very helpful employee.

By IndyKenn |

On the way back from a sales meeting in Niagara Falls, my wife and I swung by Cleveland and checked Trip Advisor for “something
different” downtown. We found it in Heinen’s!

Located in what was originally the 4-story Cleveland Trust Company (completed in 1908 for a cost in today’s value of over $26
million!), Heinen’s Downtown has a magnificent
architecture, both inside and out. With a combination Beaux Arts-NeoClassical-Renaissance Revival exterior and a stunning rotunda with murals interior, it was not surprising that the array of deli foods was jaw-dropping.

We got a wide array of seafood selections, fish taco, salad mix, mango drink, and cream horn dessert which were exquisite to eat as we sat at a table on the 2nd floor overlooking the main floor with a beautiful rotunda above.

Indeed, it is one high-class deli!

By Angelo S |

Solid small grocery in the middle of downtown. If you are staying at one of the downtown hotels, it is very walkable and have enough small stapes for either a light meal or snacks if you don't want to pay bar prices. Very good wine and beer selection as well as some varied cheeses.

The nice thing is that they preserved the old architecture of the bank including the large stained glass that is the roof of the rotunda and the paintings along the walls. Even if you don't really buy anything, it is worth a visit to check out.

By KenLis |

This "grocery store" is in an historic converted bank building so right there it has charm. The options of prepared food that is available makes deciding on just one very difficult. And it all looks so delicious! I ended up getting two items; one to have for lunch and the other to bring back to my hotel which had a microwave in the room. There are tables in the rotunda area where one can sit and eat. There are also wine tastings in the upper rotunda as well. I was also able to pick up a couple of grocery items in the connecting store. The prices were reasonable as well!

By Jason C |

Located in an old bank building, Heinen's adds a touch of beauty and old-style charm to its grocery with its decorated rotunda over the food court. The soup and appetizers that we had were excellent, as was the beer and wine that we had along with it. Tastings are also available, and a good selection of food is offered as well.

By Heidi_loves_travel |

This is a very nice little grocery store with delicious grab and go options. But the entrance is like no other grocery store. There is a GORGEOUS rotunda with a dome. So fun to see and get some food to take back to our hotel room for a cozy night in.

By grace216 |

I work downtown and visit Heinen's about 3 times a week . I like that the store try to have a restaurant feel . But need to move the tables for more privacy.. Hard to eat when people is walk by ( over your food ) when you are tiring to eat. Good food but over price..

By malowe701 |

A pricey grocery store in and old bank building right downtown. Huge wine selection! We went to check out the dome and bought a sandwich.!

By pascalcaen2019 |

I visited this place to discover the nice painting and the coupole of this place. I found out there was a food shop and restaurant at the first floor. If you do not come to eat, please stop at this place to discover interior decoration.

By CasinoVacationer |

The building was orinlly the home / main office of Cleveland Trust Bank one of the earliest banks in Cleveland. I has a great rotunda and a magnificent dome. Heinen's has the building now an it has a restaurant and food shopping area. One of the very few in walking distance.

By chuckiek |

Whole Foods style store, with their own distinctive twist. Downstairs, delicious food offerings, supermarket style and specialty as well. Upstairs, wine and beer....hundreds of options.

By mecmom11 |

This is a grocery store that is sort of like Whole Foods. It has lots of prepared foods and regular foods as well. All the food is great. But what makes it unique is the location. It is in a beautiful historic building. The domed ceiling is remarkable. The second floor is devoted to wine tasting. It is an experience as well as a market.

By Raybeam76 |

We stayed at the Kimpton which is across the street. We visited Heinen's each day during our stay. First night was for room munchies. Second day there was an Oyster Bar. Heinen's offered 4 types of Oysters at a cost of $18 per dozen!!!!! Cathy was a lovely hostess. Oysters are offered every Friday and Saturday. Next day we purchased incredible wraps for the road. This was once a bank. The place was in moth balls for 25 years. The ceiling is a stained glass that was made by a survivor of the Titanic we were told. Amazing history in pictures.

By Gail |

Most exciting grocery store I've ever been in. The old Rotunda's
architecture is amazing. Heinens commitment to a wide variety of foods and customer service is the same as always. Stop in to shop, have lunch, or a drink with friends.

By clevekat |

Stopped into see the new grocery store that once served as part of the Cleveland Trust Bank. The Tiffany ceiling is something to see. I once worked in this building, so it was special to see how it has been preserved. Very good selection of foods for an urban grocery store,

By taxdestroyer |

This is a great place to have a glass of wine, a loaf of fresh baked bread, some fruit, olives, imported cheese, etc. You get the idea. Restored to its former glory, this fabulous urban picnic venue is great to just walk through.

By 1GiantsMSo |

Went for a quick meal with some friends and was able to get a wide variety of salads, sandwiches, and sushi. It was very convenient to our hotel and had lots of tables and seating. All of the food was very tasty. Lots of beverages were available; including wine. Finished the meal with some delicious ice cream. Bravo.

By KSE1953 |

This market is marvelous. The ceiling in the main room is truly beautiful. What a great idea to repurpose an old bank into something so wonderful. You should check this place out when you’re in Cleveland.

By EdF |

Cleveland has successfully re-purposed many of its older, downtown buildings. Heinen's, a former bank, is a perfect example. Variety of foods, eat-in or take out and a nice bar scene on the second floor.

By Victoria W |

Heinen's downtown is a must to visit. It is a grocery store and more. Wine tasting on second floor. Plus, this use to be a bank so lovely to view.

By LoBommer |

The only supermarket that i have ever been to that was in such a beautiful building!
The former Cleveland Trust building, when it was completed in 1907 it was the third largest bank in the USA.
The grocery store had everything and more, a great deli, sandwich counter and soup, great staff and lovely clean store, fresh produce was beautifully laid out.
Shopped here nearly every day.
However the piece de resistance is the first floor where there is an amazing wine store where you can taste all the wines and the best range of craft beers in town.
Well worth a visit!

By Marta Z |

As visitors flock to Cleveland, please take time to visit our downtown area. The Downtown Heinen's is set in a beautiful old bank building. The wine shop, prepared foods are perfect to pick up for a picnic, whether you are visiting Edgewater park, or a park bench in the city. Visit. Browse and leave happy!

By Kathy T |

This was originally home to Cleveland Trust bank and sat vacant for several years before Heinen's purchased and renovated it. Heinen's opened the first local grocery store downtown for the growing number of people moving into apartments and condos in the area, It has a wine bar, precooked foods and groceries in a unique and beautiful setting topped off by the incredible dome.

By Rockiroads |

Besides the history of the building, and the remarkable arstsyness of the place, the food we purchased was also amazing. You dont have to purchase anything to come in. Take a look for sure if your walking around. If you need a snack or dessert, buy something. If your making a dinner for later, buy something also. A foodie paradise. We bought prosecco, meatloaf/meatball things, desserts and cheese for later. Just go there before you do anything else in town.

By FirstTravel25 |

Passed by this place and decided to take a look at it. For my visit to Heinen’s I looked around this supermarket and bought a drink. Worth a visit if you are passing by or around the area.

REASONS TO VISIT INCLUDE: +This supermarket’s design and way it is built dramatically stands out compared to a normal supermarket.

By soloutre |

We visited this grocery store to get snacks. We had heard that it was very beautiful and it was. There’s a giant dome. It’s an old bank. We went up to the second floor balcony where we overlooks the ground floor. We have an area where you can choose your own wine-2, 3 or 5oz. lots of great choices. You pre-load a card and then insert your card into the machine and serve yourself the wine. There’s also an area to sample eight different beers. That is served by a bartender. There was lots of nice seating with windows, overlooking the street scape, and also a balcony overlooking the rest of the store. It was really fun. My daughter ordered vanilla bean ice cream which was delicious. She bought apple cider and they brought her a glass to drink it out of. It was my favourite stop on our trip as it was so unexpected and also fun. Definitely a cooler place to go than a bar. There were several couples and groups who had stopped in there before the Blue Jays game – all Blue Jays fans. This grocery store is a great place to visit.

By Nicki C |

I love this store. Living downtown, this location is a lifesaver. Not to mention the building is incredible and just a joy to be in. My only complaint is how high the prices are because of it's location. I try not to do my bulk shopping here because of that, but for odds and ends or a quick meal/snack/drink this is a great place to be!

By MattIowa |

First, this place is just cool, a grocery story in an old historic bank building. It's worth your time right there just to see the concept. Second, the food is really good, and fairly priced for the high quality that it is. Great downtown spot for a quick meal for both of these reasons.

By Richard G |

If one is in Cleveland and in Cleveland in the Winter, then stop by this downtown wonderful grocery with fine products, and a classic building which provides the environment. Upstairs you can taste many fine wines via their special card system;. Really worth the visit.

By WorldTravelers34 |

We stopped here for a beverage and some desert after touring downtown Cleveland. This place is big. This place is beautiful. This place has everything. This location sits in the historic Cleveland Trust Company building that dates back to 1908. It has stunning architectural details featuring a rotunda with a stained glass dome. The street level has a deli, small restaurant, large sitting area in the middle, cheese area, and a regular grocery store in the south wing of the building. Second floor is dedicated to wine and beer. Heinen's is a local chain of family owned grocery stores stretching from Ohio to Illinois but this location place is super unique.

By Rich Calabrese |

Such a cool space! Old bank, elegant, great wine library upstairs. Guy a glass of wine and relax. A must visit!

By BigFootMidlands |

Enjoyed that we could walk around, choose a meal/snack from downstairs and enjoy a glass of wine upstairs. It’s a beautiful building. Would visit more often if I lived downtown.

By mark h |

A full service grocery store in a beautifully renovated building in the heart of the city. You could eat a meal here, sample beer or wine or do all of your grocery shopping. You should at least stop and look around!

By jcdeligirl |

Heinins did a beautiful job restoring the bank building in downtown Cleveland. Not only can you grocery shop they offer prepared foods, wine tastings, and short order foods.

By Abby S |

This Heinen's is beautiful and convenient for people living downtown. Their shelves are nicely stocked, especially for the amount of space that is available. Some prices are high, but it's not too bad. Recommend visiting.

By SKoll |

Very unique spot and well worth visiting.
There are many enticing choices for lunch including freshly prepared sandwiches, but I was delighted with my selection of salads from their salad bar - and it was a bargain at 7.99/lb. Great cold draft beer on tap too!

By ThreeFromVancouver |

This is an old bank building. It’s well worth popping in to check out the dome ceiling and murals. Some interesting food items too.

By SouthernCooks5153 |

This place was just down the street from our hotel. We went in, hoping to pick up some wine and cheese for snacks, but came out with dinner! There is an extensive range of pre-made food, but there is also a decent selection of grocery items as well. The star of the show, though, is the building - a former bank building, restored to its glory and absolutely gorgeous. It is worth a visit just for the architecture, but they have a really good wine selection on the second floor.

By Ginhenna |

It is a nice place to buy basic groceries, beer, wine, and have lunch with coworkers, it is very good for people that works or lives in Downtown Cleveland. I visited, Like it. Although I prefer the full Heinen's store.

By HDS1 |

We went in Heinen's to look, not to shop, but it is really visually stunning. Looking around, though there was a huge assortment of food, both to take home and to eat on the spot.

By Stacy C |

We came by on a recommendation and glad we did. Beautiful building that houses a grocery store. We came for lunch and ate where they have prepared food. So much to pick from and delicious. Plus to get to eat in a beautiful rotunda!

By The-Lap-of-Luxury |

Stopped at Heinens for happy hour. We purchased a prepaid wine card and then leisurely walked around the 40 wine by the glass options, sampling as we went. Wonderful choices and variety... prices ranged from less than $2.00 for a taste to well over $20 for a glass. Lots of seating spread out around the second floor as well. What a great find in the middle of the city!

By nmouncey |

I don't get here very often but it's a fun experience when I can. The building itself is worth a visit, really beautiful and cleverly laid out. A great reuse of an older space. Lots of quality items and a great beer and wine selection. Especially worth coming for the regular wine tastings they run. If you're in the vicinity, I'd recommend a stop in.

By SharonB231 |

This is a grocery store in a beautiful historic building. There are nice murals on the upper floor. Enter the lobby and be sure to look up. One of the prettiest grocery stores, I have been to.

By Mike L |

I honestly don't know if I could actually shop for all of my groceries here or not, but who cares? Great coffee, desserts, craft beer, fine wine, and a view to die for. Bring a book and just hang out for a while. Awesome service and decent prices.

By Lee Ann |

Want a quick meal or snack or need to pick up some things for your meals downtown? This old bank building is a great place to visit. The food choices are varied and fruit and vegetables fresh. Worth the trip, but it was a quick walk from where I was staying.

By LauriB1 |

Heinen's Downtown is not an easy place to get to, but it is worth the effort. It is located in the historic Cleveland Trust Rotunda Building, three full stories of gorgeous architecture that also provides a great selection of food! My friend and I decided to go see it and, when we walked inside, we were truly dazzled by the stonework, stained glass, original flooring and high, decorative ceiling of this place. The upstairs is devoted to wines and wine-tasting events. The main floor has a bakery, deli, fish market, etc., all with the excellent service one always associates with the Heinen's brand. The lower level contains shelves of food with a surprisingly excellent selection considering how much smaller this store is compared to all of the other Heinen's markets. We enjoyed being there so much that we ended up shopping, even when we hadn't planned to do so. This is a place you definitely want to see when you have some time on your hands and feel like getting some quality sight-seeing in along with your quality grocery shopping. This is a new gem in our ever-improving downtown.

By skm4444 |

Stopped in for a couple of items though we’ve been before. Terrific grocery. Nice prepared foods. Great looking meat. Good produce, cheeses. Nice wine bar and retail wine upstairs. Wish I lived closer.

By Lisa G |

From salad, bar to sushi to hot food on the run, oh and a grocery store! The spicy mac and cheese and a fresh avocado for me please.

By Travelrncdn |

Worth the visit just to see this beautiful store. Upstairs you can have a great craft beer or glass of wine and shop. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The building is beautiful.

By Ray F |

Lots and lots of variety of foods and wines. There is even an automated tasting facility on the balcony second floor.

By 522travel593 |

It is a beautiful building. Heinen's always has great deli food and service. I'm happy for those people who live downtown they can shop at a top shelf grocery store. It's just to bad the building could not be utilized at something other than a grocery store.

By Wlad K |

Inside a former bank, with its beautiful domed interior, is the whimsical deli/grocery/restaurant/and...wine bar on two levels surrounding the central open space. Worth stopping in to look at the dome, you may stay for a informal lunch, or have a book and a glass of wine from the multidispensers on the second floor.

By PtownCraig |

A nice renovation. It’s good to see older buildings like this saved from the wrecking ball. Bathroom on the second floor above the front entrance. Having a fully functioning grocery downtown is a real plus. Be sure to visit the Old Arcade building a few short blocks away.

By ckmojo003 |

This a great grocery store to pick up wines and beers you might not be able to get at your local IGA or Kroger. They have a huge variety of actual groceries as well - but I went for the beer... If you are visiting Cleveland, call ahead or check the website for Wine and Beer Tastings - I even happened in when they had an oyster bar on a Saturday in February!

By Kit Whipple |

this beautiful structure was created by the same architect as the NY Stock exchange building (George Post) and has been remade from a bank building to a fashionable restaurant and grocery store. have a glass of wine and admire the beautiful overly large tiffany inspired stained glass window inside the dome. some of Cleveland's more interesting people shop and eat there. well worth a stop

By Karthikeyan Sankaran |

We weren't aware of this store until we saw "Use the other door for grocery shop" on the door and we had to go in to see how a historic building could be a grocery store. Wow was the first impression. The dome is ornate, the layout is a rotunda and gorgeous. The pastries are absolutely delicious and we were particularly blown away by the Wine/Beer Bar Station on the 2nd Floor. You could buy a Heinen's Wine card and use it to either Taste or drink a glass of wine and the selections runs to about 20-25 of their top wines. Brilliant set up. Always feels good to taste a wine for 7$ rather than pay 110$ for a bottle. Sweet deal!!

By Jonna L |

Oh, what fun.

I am a country mouse who loves to visit the big city.

We were staying at the Metropolitan 9 next door and decided to visit the grocery.

Sushi, beautiful cheeses, gift trays, wines and gorgeous produce.

The routunda is also stunning....the whole thing is just a visual paradise. You gotta' swing by and check out this place.

It's bigger than you think!

By TBHOBBS |

Wow! The architectural type and history of this building should not be missed, but neither should the experience of shopping in this upscale grocery store. It may seem small at a glance, but nice selection of everything is inside. I visited twice while in the area over the period of a weekend.

By Ttaylo3 |

What a. beautiful grocery store. Similiar to whole foods. The special treat was the tasting room on the second floor. $5 beers and a great view. Incredibly friendly staff.

By MrsPsPicks |

Wish we had known about this before we got into town… could have stocked our hotel room with healthy produce and foods from this spectacular old bank building!

By fnqfamily |

What a awesome building. Stopped in for some lunch, plenty of options plus a decent supermarket. Service was outstanding, everyone was very helpful and friendly.

By Brandon |

The store is nice but the architecture is the real reason to visit. Having the grocery store in an old bank is amazing! Take a seat and look up in there dinning area, the ceiling is gorgeous.

By JimE782 |

It may seem odd that when you ask what to do in downtown Cleveland, people recommend a grocery store. Heinens to be specific but a visit there turned out to be a welcome surprise. Located in what looks to be an old bank building, the interior architecture is breathtaking. With a soaring ceiling and stained glass skylight, this Art Deco masterpiece is worth seeing...yes, bear with me, even if it is, a lowly grocery store.

There is no parking in Cleveland and they have the longest traffic lights. We found a lot in back and were saddled in a pricey parking lot that would refund our parking price if we produced a receipt from a merchant of equivalent value. That would prove not to be a problem in Heinens. It is a very high end market and if you are a wine lover, you're in luck. Not only do they have a huge inventory of bottled wine, they have at least 30 on a self-service tap...sweet. You can buy these credit cards that allow you wine tastings amongst a very big wine bar and a huge wine cellar. We sampled lots of wine. Fun way to escape a dreary day...and it was a gray and dreary day so Heinens was super awesome. As I said parking behind is free if you purchase $20 or more...parking otherwise is difficult. Go ahead and go for it...take a bottle with you.

By panster |

You can get foods downstairs and wines upstairs. Most food seemed to be for home preparations but they had some items you can eat there(like oyster bar). The wine shop upstairs had many wines you purchase after getting a pre paid card to put in a machine that would dispense a taste, or 3 or 5 oz pour. Great idea and wines were protected from oxidation. Some expensive selections as well. Seemed like a lot of fun and many tables to sit and eat/drink. Beautiful old bank building is worth a visit

By malesick |

Touring in Cleveland and stopped for lunch after visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What a delightful surprise.....beautiful dome ceiling and paintings surrounded by magnificent architecture. Wonderful selection of deli foods, outstanding salad bar,
oyster bar, and so much more.

By cjefrun |

They took the old Cleveland Trust Building and put a grocery store in the lobby! Brilliant. The first floor has prepared foods you can eat there or take home plus standard grocery fare. The second floor has a wine bar. Make it a stop while in Cleveland.

By pauliepalmz |

Just go to take a look at this beautifully restored bank building- really awesome. We attended one of the champagne events on a Friday night- $15 for 6" tastes" - lots of fun.

By PEIGOLFER |

Excellent prepared food section & a very nice bakery. The fresh fruit & produce look very nice !!!...Great place to shop !!!

what fun two shop in a former Bank. the food is great but the atmosphere is fabulous. it is a supermarket, but visually it is MORE.

By NanaFradette |

This place is a feast for the eyes. Beautiful fruits, vegetables, bakery, beer selection and wine area. You can buy cheese plates and the wine is poured from a special wine vending machine.

By JazzinInJersey |

I this is another visual experience. The architecture is gorgeous. The building was the former Cleveland Trust Company. Upon entering I wasn’t impressed then ventured further to the center food court area …Look up & see the gorgeous Rotunda and 2nd & 3rd levels ! There are self-serve wine tasting dispensers to have a tasting or a 3oz or glass of wine. Must prepay for a tasting card then insert it & make your choice. A vast selection of wines along the 3rd level . 1st level Had the groceries and center court had I ice cream and other edible choices .

By Lori K |

This a very interesting building that is actually an over priced grocery store in the middle of downtown. If you enjoy old buildings...this is a mist. The murals are beautiful.

By Patriklise |

Never saw a grocery store like this
Salad bar, olive bar, fresh cut meats and produce
Bottled mariniara loved the Veras brand
Not cheap but worth every penny

By fiamma11 |

We went here to visit a grocery, and what a unique grocery we found. The building is beyond beautiful and of historical significance. What a treat.

By Debra W |

I love the Heinen's being downtown. It is pricier on many items, however it is convenient. I love the food choices. I am there quite often. If you want hot soups, it's always there, if you want a nice salad, its there. If you want a sweet treat, it's there. If you want to do grocery shopping knock yourself out. Make sure you have a way to lug it home if you 're not living downtown and have to carry yourself. I love it!!!

By Todd L |

How mant grocery stores have a beautiful, stained, glass rotunda??? None that I know of, except this one. It's a fun and upscale place to shop and they have a great wine and beer tasting area. A really cool, different kind of a way to spend some time as part of a date or before going to the theater!

By Melissa L |

Took grandkids downtown & one of our stops was Heinen’s at E.9th & Euclid Ave. The rotunda is breathtaking. We sat at a high lunch table near the center. Counters on the outside have a nice selection of prepared foods that you can take out or eat there.

Kids liked the high round ceiling & the balcony. In the center of the historic Rotunda is a gold plaque with “Cleveland Trust.” It is a beautiful historic building. Walked no further into the building is the usual grocery store shelves.

I’m happy Heinens kept the historic part as is, and downtown Cleveland needed a store the nearby residents can go to for groceries.

Nicely done.

Wow, a store in an old bank! What a great selection of wine and lovely produce in a super environment!

By sealover12 |

We walked by this beautiful old building which caught my attention. I was shocked to discover it was a grocery store. The building previously had been a bank and is now a home to a grocery store. The building has a magnificent rotunda where the bakery and eatery is located. The upper floors host wine tasting. A perfect place to shop. We bought a few sweets from the bakery and enjoyed the ambiance. Definitely worth a visit and you can pick up a bite to eat while admiring the architecture.

By Jwan87 |

This grocery store cum deli cum wine bar cum craft brewery is well worth a stop on a tour of Cleveland. A beautiful rotunda, the ground floor is where you pick up your salad, taco, sushi or whatever. You can eat downstairs but my advice would be to take your food upstairs and order a glass of wine or craft beer and enjoy a rest. I am coeliac and the bartender said she would open a bottle for me (from the beer store) as she didn’t have any gluten free beer on tap. A great place for an easy relaxing lunch. The salad bar was good and well labelled for allergens. Coeliacs beware though that they only list ‘wheat’. One salad with barley had no warning in it but I suppose coeliacs know to avoid it. It would have been more helpful for me if it said ‘gluten’ instead.

Really enjoyed the quality and selection at Heinen's downtown. I went here to have a look after going to the old arcade and 4th Street and found some really great stuff. Very nice place, so check it out.

By GeorgeJ_12 |

We did a quick little vacation to Cleveland, Ohio. Our main goal was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Out hotel was across the street from Heinen's. After we checked into the hotel, we walked across the street for some lunch. WOW! This place is absolutely beautiful. It is a converted bank that is now a grocery store. The FOOD! Wow the food was amazing. This is a must see if you are in Cleveland.

By PamelaK O |

Loved walking around in here...wonderful selection of everything from standard grocery items to specialty foods! It's a great space and well-located...wish I lived closer so I could shop here more often.

By RGW321 |

This place has high-end grocery selections, as well as carry-out food to take back to work!!! Bright, clean, fresh.

By Patty B |

We found this delightful store and were happy we did. This building is stunning.

We went upstairs which is really cool. The architecture, paintings, dome glass ceiling,
All of it was worth seeing. They have wine tasting and readymade offerings to have while enjoying this great place.

This is the most unique grocery store.

By djbls |

This place is unbelievable! This grocery store is right downtown in a beautiful old bank building. Such a great idea to convert this into a grocery store. There is a coffee shop and wine bar as well. They have happy hour almost everyday.
The bakery and the prepared foods look amazing (I can testify the cookies are delicious!). Beautiful selection of produce and just about everything!
This place is not cheap, but it's convenient for downtown and being able to get a prepared meal.
Would definitely come back here again!

By reymoore21 |

The architecture and food offerings will make your visit extraordinary. Whether you need groceries for a few days, or just a quick meal, you will find the offerings here to be tasteful and delightful.

By sarkell |

The building is beautiful and the fresh fruits and produce are great, but I would recommend avoiding busy hours such as lunch during the work week. It becomes very crowded and noisy due to the dome. It's a bit hectic to find an open seat and table as well. A bit pricier than normal Cleveland grocery stores, but the quality is good.

By LittleSis54 |

We stayed at the nearby Drury Hotel and walked over to see the architecture/dome that now houses Heinen's, an upscale grocery store. I bought a baked good, walked around and enjoyed the beautiful dome and surroundings. If you wanted to get some wine they had a place on the second floor balcony, or you could pick up a sandwich or food if you wanted to eat there at some tables or go back to your room.

By Jim-Cleveland |

Converted commercial building to a grocery store. Very nice interior. Plenty of selections to choose from.

By TorontoMusicman |

This store is located inside and old bank, It is beautifully restored. you can still see the marble columns between the teller tills. The tellers's marble counters have been re-purposed into table tops on the second floor.
On the second floor there is a beer and wine bar. Some wines and beers are sold for half price 4-7 PM Monday to Thursday.

By Monica B |

It is so convenient to have a full service grocery store downtown. The building is beautiful and the food is top quality.

By Irishterry |

An amazing downtown grocery store with great food court and wine vending machines. The ceiling of the rotunda has a Tiffany glass ceiling that was part of the architecture of this building which was originally a bank. They have salad bar, many many hot foods you can pack and go, bakery and on the second floor there is wine tasting vending machines, very cool concept.

By Charles S |

This is a downtown Cleveland institution, featuring gourmet sandwiches and a host of other prepared food for those who wish an informal lunch or dinner, and a wide range of upscale groceries for local residents. As our hotel was across the street, we took advantage of the former but were not shopping for groceries to prepare at home. Choices were wide-ranging and all looked very good. Stop by if only to see the interior of a great building that was once a bank and is now put to very good use with excellent tasty choices.

By Kevin M |

Loved the architecture and style of this landmark building. The grocery store itself is great with a very wide selection of food items that can be eaten at the store or taken home. The wine and beer section on the second level is unique, and the self-serve wine machines are awesome!

By Queen_Marg0t |

We just happen to be staying across from Heinen's flagship store and popped in out of curiosity. We could not imagine how stunning it is! A great place to grab a bite, taste some beer or wine and fill up on great grocery items in a stunning surrounding.

By dreamsalvage |

Ok, first, this is a full fledged grocery store with some limitation. I have never left without a food item I was looking for. Produce section is outstanding. Now, that being said, there will be items you will not find, but you won't find them at Giant Eagle either. Wheat germ...yes, I am a firm believer is the B vitamins. You also won't find an entire aisle of dog and cat food. But for the general food items, you will be fine. Now, the extraordinary parts of the experience. A selection of wines and beers that will please the discerning. (Yes, beer can be something a little more than your regular chug fare.) Events are regularly held to introduce and educate you about the wines. Fresh meats, poultry and fish. Already prepared foods ready to heat up. Now, for me, you will never squeeze tomatoes in a more beautiful surrounding. You can hardly call me a good snob because I am a huge fan of SavALot canned goods. You will find them superior to the best brands. So when I say thus Heinens is worth at least a visit, you can trust me.

By DavidMoore2328 |

Incredible. Who knew there was a market for d'Artagnan foie gras and duck breasts in the midwest. Back here in NJ we have Wegman's (which is, frankly, just OK - and Whole Foods), but THIS place is spectacular. Further, this is the friendliest food market I've ever been in.

The prepared foods are as good as it gets. The wine selection could use help - lots of old vintages that haven't been well cared-for, but that's largely out of the hands of management (a crazy business, wine), but all-in-all a wonderful place for food shopping.

By K J |

It's a gourmet grocery store in an old (historic) bank building. The rotunda is beautiful. The lay-out is unusual for a supermarket, since it was a bank, after all. Prices are higher than at a typical supermarket in Cleveland. There are no other full-service grocery stores downtown, so it's a blessing to downtown residents. Clean, well-stocked, and friendly.

By Shneur K |

I'm glad that Heinens, a locally owned and operated grocery store, decided to invest in downtown by putting the cities first supermarket in the architectural landmark, "The Rotunda" but, I am disappointed in the price points that they offer, I understand they are a higher end grocery store, but I was hoping for a cheaper place to snack when downtown when I first heard that they were opening.

By Anonymous2_10 |

Normally, visiting a grocery store is not on my sightseeing list, but the architecture of this Heinen’s is just beautiful. We were there close to closing time on a weekend, and it was a wonderful time to be there, very few customers to get in the way of as we gawked overhead or down upon from the railing on the second floor. I think I would avoid it on weekdays at lunchtime. Based on the number prepared foods they featured in the main rotunda, they must be catering to nearby workers. None to be found at 7:00 in the evening on a Thursday! We chose two different desserts— a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter and a brookie, and both were delicious.

That said, we enjoyed it because it was a pleasant, quiet walk from our hotel, the Drury Plaza, giving us a quick evening outing; but it’s not an attraction worthy of much more time and effort than that.

Cleveland's Downtown Heinen's offers anyone the chance to enjoy both fine art and fine spirits on the weekly grocery run. Honestly, this store is so beautiful and so much fun, you have to go. But, here are a few tips to make your visit extra special:

Talk to the employees, especially those who work in the prepared foods and bakery sections on the ground floor. A few of them are extra knowledgeable about the building and are happy to share their expertise. They will tell you how to take the famous Heinen's Downtown selfie (see photo), they will tell you where to find the historical plaques, they will direct you to the second floor for a closer view of the murals, they will get you to the wine tasting areas, and they will tell you where the old vaults are!

Linger in the rotunda. Was there ever such a domed ceiling in a grocery store (of all places)? It evokes the magic and mystery of other worlds and makes your weekly grocery run a fine arts experience.

Have a bite to eat. Yes, you can shop at Heinens and depart quickly. But, why would you want to do that? Every time I go I stop to get something from the bakery, salad bar, or prepared foods section. The selections are delicious and it gives you a chance to sit down, enjoy a bit, and soak in the architectural beauty for that much longer.

Head upstairs to explore the "Sip, Swirl, Savor" wine tasting area, read the brochure about the 13 murals depicting the settlement of the midwest, spend a few minutes appreciating the murals, then take note of the calendar of events. If you can stay in town, join in on one of Heinen's culinary extravaganzas!

Oh, and if you need groceries or a few snacks, don't forget to shop. With so much to see and do in the renovated and restored building, it is easy to forget about the fine selection and groceries on offer. Heinen's works very, very hard to be an upscale grocer, so pick-up a few things while you're there.

Heinen's downtown is a world-class cultural experience which also happens to be a grocery store and restaurant. Quite simply, it is amazing. The Trip Advisor rankings are well deserved - it is a "Must See" while in Cleveland. You can visit quickly or you can take your time and wander the aisles, but either approach will leave you feeling satisfied and utterly awed by the experience. Enjoy!

By alynn m |

Many choices offered in a cafeteria type setting. Yummy food in a dizzying choice of soup, salad, deli section, rows and rows of wine selections, bakery, desserts--if you can imagine it, Heinin's downtown likely has it.

By robertOU812 |

Stopped by after being at the Art museum and was impressed. I thought from all of the hype there would be more inside but what was there was well done.

By Stephen D |

Heinen's is a local grocer of longstanding--although it has expanded to Chicago--and in the last few years opened a downtown grocery store and wine-tasting center in an historic rotunda. It's a magnificent venue and is the hit of the century. Therfe is no one who doesn't love it. And it has brought classy grocery shopping to downtown Cleveland, which is only 98% rental occupied! It is centrally located for those who live and work downtown and was a brilliant stroke of genius on the part of the Heinen family (I don't know them and am not related to them).

By WHMeg |

Yes, my friend, it is... and is probably the most beautiful one you're ever visited! But don't be fooled by the amazing murals, or the wonderful food court, or the automated wine bar on the mezzanine... this is a full grocery store where you can pick up your cat's food, bologna, and some shrimp for dinner! Well worth a visit (and a coffee or a glass of wine) if you're in Cleveland for a visit. Also great for a take-out meal if you're not in the mood to explore Cleveland restaurants.

By Barb W |

Staying at Metropolitan on the 9, we walked down to the Rock HOF but didn’t want to eat there so we ate lunch at Heinens and we very impressed by the variety of offerings. The food was delicious.

Lots of beer and wine to choose from. Everything here seemed so fresh. The staff was friendly. I wish we had this store near where we live.

By ZenHealer7 |

It is a bit scattered and unorganized due to the restrictions of being in an ex bank building. It is a noteworthy place to visit more for its location than the contents which are no patch on Whole Foods. I was surprised to find this store in a rundown, depressing downtown of Cleveland riddled with 100 year old buildings with not many souls around.

By 1WisconsinFan |

We were in Cleveland for an event at Cleveland State. Other parents on pur team told us about Heinen's, so we just had to go in. We ended up buying some snacks and sports drinls for our athlete and returned for lunch the next day. So happy that they saved this unique, old trust company building.

By James Weaver |

Set in a beautiful old building, I walked into the largest salad bar area I had ever seen. All was fresh and presented in a manner that was difficult to resist. I could have filled a container and eaten right there and then, even if it was a little after 8:00 AM. I was here in Cleveland on vacation and staying nearby. I had been given instructions on what to buy and bring back to the room quickly, so I passed by and headed to a section called Aisles. Here were canned goods of all kinds, detergent, everything so need and can purchase at a grocery store. I found my items, found the checkout line and was helped by a friendly cashier. My task completed I returned to the room.

By Alex J |

Beautiful former bank building . We loved the cart selling oysters on the half shell to eat under the dome. Also the wine tasting area where machines let you sample a glass, small glass or taste of a wide variety of wines. We were able to preview a couple of interesting bottles and also sample a few well outside our price range. Very enjoyable.

By kckbxrssm |

Very cool "store"! Beautiful way to use an old building. Nice self-serve wine bar. Great ice cream!!

By Jolene N |

Heinens offers a wonderful array of fresh food bars, hot bar, soup bar, sushi, and poke. A picky eater is sure to find something delicious. It is all fairly priced too! I really enjoy the atmosphere of the older building. Definitely take a seat by the big windows upstairs (in the wine/beer tasting area), enjoy the view and comfortable atmosphere. The employees were also very friendly - a nice change of pace when visiting a big city. Also delightfully surprised that prices were very reasonable for being a downtown market.

By 808roadtraveller |

Very convenient to our downtown Cleveland hotel & the Quicken Loans Arena - only a few blocks away - found this via google search. We stopped in to grab some sandwiches/salad (love their salad bar - lots of variety)/ready made soups (which are high quality & yummy) since the restaurants in the area were so packed. Glad we stopped here instead - went there 2 days in a row. There's some tables/chairs in the center part. It's an upscale grocery store w/reasonable prices!

By soulefultraveler |

Worthwhile to just check out this beautiful architecture. So nicely preserved. But it's a super grocery store as well.

By Christopher C |

OK, a grocery store review. A first for me for sure. Typically, it is all tomatoes, flour, and chicken breasts. But this place is different and caters to a downtown crowd. Lots of prepared dishes for consuming in the beautiful central lobby, special tastings (wine/beer some paired with food), happy hours, etc. Sure you can get all of the usual things one would find at a grocery store, but the real pleasure is the surroundings. Enjoy!

By MWK51 |

What makes this really special is the setting. This grocery store is in the former Cleveland Trust downtown bank, complete with rotunda, circular balcony and beautiful ceiling. It serves mainly the 20-30 crowd that lives downtown, hence many prepared foods, a big assortment of wine and beers. There are frequent social events at this Heinen's and there are regular opportunities for wine and beer tastings. Heinen's is known for quality, fresh food at all of their stores and this is no exception.Grab a snack, eat at one of the many tables in the middle and enjoy your surroundings.

By Cher |

The historic location of this Heinen's makes the mundane trip to a grocery store well worth it. The take out food is fabulous and we are hoping it is opened soon as we enjoyed eating in the rotunda! Wine bar upstairs is a PLUS!

By D S |

While staying at a hotel nearby, we went here for fruit and breakfast. Friendly staff, fresh food.Coffee was not as strong as I like it. I wanted to try a local beer and you can purchase cold, individual local beer upstairs as well as wine tasting. The murals and history are amazing.

By MullinAround |

Clean and so efficient during lunch. A wonderful alternative to restaurants on a busy workday.Glad to have a local high quality in the heart of downtown

By Mike L |

I have learned a long time ago to find a convenience store or drugstore near to the hotel where I am staying for the beverages and snacks instead of taking out a second mortgage on my home to buy a drink from the vending machine at 2AM. Heinen's Downtown is a super place for all sorts of snacks as well as an excellent salad and pastry bar plus several meal choices.
It is a great resource in downtown Cleveland for tourists, and I would imagine residents in nearby apartments and condos are truly enjoying the great selection of food available.

By TCairl |

The architecture and the paintings/murals are amazing. The first floor is grocery, produce and prepared foods, second floor is more regular grocery, third floor is wine & beer.

By 522travelers |

We stopped in primarily to see the building, which is truly gorgeous. The food, both fresh and prepared, was displayed so beautifully, it was like being in a food art museum. I would encourage you to stop in if you can. We all need more beauty in our lives and fresh mango never hurts, either!

By Scott M |

What do you do with aging buildings in a metropolitan downtown? THIS! Great place to stop for lunch when downtown. Parking is free if you spend $50 or more.

By Lori H |

Gorgeous building featuring a fantastic grocery store and even better wine experience! Have someone point out some of the key features and history of the building...and then move upstairs, get a wine card and sample some wines. We were in Cleveland on a rainy evening and this was a great way to enjoy a few hours between raindrops!

By NJ Reviewer |

The building is like a big city bank. With the rotunda and everythine. Inside is that upscale food store you find everywhere now. The hook is the wine card. That lets you get sloshed without ever talking to a bartender. You drink out of glass stemware by inserting a pre-paid card and pushing a pour button. Nice.

By Dana M |

Beautiful architecture! Timeless! Well organized and appealing presentation of prepared foods! We will definitely return for wine tasting!

By RDCononver |

Heinen’s is a supermarket, beer/wine shop, and food court all in one. My hotel recommended it for lunch, I was able to purchase some grilled chicken, salad, and vegetables along with bottled water for approximately $10 which is a great deal anywhere. I joined in the center of the rotunda of the old bank which is a beautiful piece of architecture and enjoyable experience. Highly recommended

By Donnag |

Heinen's did a great job with the downtown store. It's obvious that they did lots of research to create a store that is perfect for downtown workers and residents. The building is a stately historic bank, and they kept a lot of the details instead of just modernizing it which I appreciate.

By Sam L |

Absolutely beautiful building. Great to see this adaptive reuse of an old bank building. The selection and quality seem to be very good for a smaller footprint store. Prices, however, tend to be higher than suburban type stores. Great addition to downtown Cleveland. We did not have a chance to do all the wine tastings on the upper level of the rotunda, but it seems like it would be a great activity.

By alli_sun_t |

I was staying downtown and wanted to find a grocery store to get snacks and breakfast stuff. This grocery store is absolutely stunning on the inside. They renovated the Cleveland Trust Bank building. Upstairs they do beer and while tasting as well. Don't miss it if you're downtown

By yayajlg |

Going to the grocery store can be a monotonous task for some, but not in this venue! Being the old CLE Trust building, the architecture will wow you, and grabbing a drink while shopping not only makes it a social, you might be more creative with your purchases! Enjoy!

By woaishanghai |

This is a historic building and Heinen's has done a wonderful job of respecting the space. You, of course, get your things but go upstairs to hang out with some beer/ wine and soak in the building.

By 12_JNG_42 |

Just a nice place to visit. Dramatic architecture in the round and a wine bar upstairs. Lunch, snack or just take it in.

By Heather J |

The old bank building is stunning- the ceiling is stained glass and awesome. We ate the food items we purchased there- they were fine. The desserts were very good- the selection was very good. What was head and shoulders the strongest pro was a truly lovely staff. Over five different people helped us -each very sweet, but the red haired young women who talked about desserts to the visitors from Minnesota should get a raise! So friendly. Great for out of town people to get a few things for their room, in-town people can pick up a fun meal. Happy hour M-F 4-6, wish I could have done that! Strongly recommend this excellent customer service place!

By MRSHENN |

We loved this place. Lots to see. Very interesting and beautiful inside. The foods were tasty, service was a little slow.

By scullysi0ux |

We checked this place out while on vacation in Cleveland and were totally surprised by how much fun you could have in a grocery store. First of all, the building it is in is beautiful, which a stained glass dome ceiling. Downstairs is the grocery area, most meats, cheeses and prepared foods and upstairs is the wine and beer area. You can taste several different wines by buying a card and you serve yourself. The staff was helpful and you can buy snacks to go with your wine. We got the flatbread, which was delicious. Highly recommended!

By richard L l |

nice surprise for downtown super market in historic rotonda of former Ameritrust bank. Iconic . Can pick up lunch or dinner there. Parking in the area (downtown parking decks)

By bbmuller |

We dropped by for a snack mid-afternoon on a Saturday and were delighted to find the upstairs wine bar. We ordered snacks and the red wine tasting that was featured that day. The chilled shrimp appetizer with the pineapple salsa was hit with our group. Loved the chocolate samples offered with the wine as well as the ability to try some amazing wines with the automated wine card.

By bbnyla |

This restored building in downtown Cleveland near Playhouse Square is a must-see stop! Great for grabbing a quick lunch too! Take out or dine in, in this stunning rotunda! Very special! Great wine shopping / tasting as well. Well informed staff. Grocery store attached next door as well. We experienced ALL that Heinen's had to offer! Go!

By MidwestKathM |

While doing research on historic architecture in Cleveland, I came across a reference to Heinen's Downtown and its recently restored historic rotunda from its origin as the Cleveland Trust Building more than 115 years ago. It's a beautiful Beaux Arts style in a building designed by New York architect George B. Post. The glass dome is reminiscent of Tiffany, but it has not been authenticated as such. Corinthian columns abound, and up on the 3rd floor balcony are 13 beautiful murals depicting the settlement of the Great Lakes region, done by renowned artist Francis Millet (who perished a few years later when Titanic sank). Heinen's is to be applauded for the restoration of this historic architectural treasure. It is not easy to find nearby on-street parking so I was dropped off for a quick visit. Hope to return some day to enjoy each mural one-by-one and soak up the beauty of it all while enjoying a coffee and lunch or a sweet treat.

By Harry J |

A grocery store which has a whole floor devoted to wine and beer including tastings located in a beautiful old bank. What's not to love!. Great place to have a bite to eat as well.

By Sue D |

Heinen’s has been my grocery for 60 years. This downtown location is a real boon to the revitalization of the area. It is in a charming old, bank with magnificent ceilings. In fact the second floor is all wines and wine tastings. We did that one evening and then continued on to a downtown restaurant! The food displays are lovely.

By Moops |

We were staying at the Kimpton overlooking Heinen's, so had to check it out. Beautiful building with a stunning rotunda. Didn't buy any food, so can't comment on that, but they seemed to have a nice selection of pantry goods, snacks, and prepared goods. Second floor had several wine bars and places to grab a drink, though sadly empty on a Friday night.

By Lyubov M |

Great example of early XX cent. architecture including beautiful tiffany ceiling, "wooden" decorations and murals. Truly pleasure for eyes and spirit of history all for free.
As for the grocery store - it is really good in terms of choice and quality. I visit it regularly for European cheeses (including my fav burrata), fresh seaproducts, good quality fruits and vegetables and other stuff.

By SharonB231 |

When you enter this store there is a beautiful rotunda in this historic building. In a circle are counters for meat, salads, deli, bakery etc. Bakery items are great and fresh. Behind this beautiful area is a typical grocery store area. On the second floor are wines and beer. Worth a stop if in the area to see this historic and architecturally beautiful place.

By Mark |

This downtown grocery has everything. It used to be a bank & once housed the vaults that contained a lot of the wealth of the Carnegies & Rockefellers. The architecture & murals are stunning in the rotunda. A tourist attraction in itself & you can buy lots of local things there like maple blueberry sausage from Ohio.

By Philip |

It’s ok. Their bakery section sucks. The deli is fine. There are just a few cashiers available. The security guard kept following me, which made me feel very uncomfortable, so I just grabbed a few things I needed and left. It's worth going to look at the glass duomo, only.

By RDW |

Native Texan with a lifelong love of and loyalty to my regional grocery store (HEB). HEB dominates the Texas grocery business. I am that person who likes to visit grocery stores in other states and other countries to see what I’m missing. I have never seen a bank repurposed as a grocery store. Wine and beer bars, hot food bar, ice cream counter, superior meat counter, deli counter, florist quality florals…Welcome to Heinen’s Downtown. Visited both Lakewood Heinen’s and Downtown Heinen’s on a recent trip to Cleveland. Impressive doesn’t begin to describe a Heinen’s.

By travelgs |

We heard that this was a place to see when in Cleveland so we went to check it out. It is sort of like Whole Foods grocery stores but is located in a beautiful old building. It is round inside with 3 or 4 floors. Every kind of food imaginable from cheese to meat to fruit and veggies. They carry a large variety of wine, some of which can be purchased by the glass to drink on the premises. Kind of pricey but the food looked good. We didn't purchase anything but if I lived in Cleveland I'm sure I would shop here. You should definitely check it out if you're in town.

By The-Lap-of-Luxury |

Visited Heinens downtown for the first time this past Spring. The wine and beer section upstairs is amazing! Along with a huge and thoughtful selection of bottles of wine, guests can taste from a nice assortment of wines available to purchase by the glass. The space is beautiful! The bakery has many wonderful selections. We loved the multigrain croissant. Many prepared food options. A wonderful addition to the Heinens fleet!

By Sandy W |

Not quite as big as other Heinen’s but really enjoy the ambiance of this beautiful historic building! The quality of the food is stellar it’s just a bit less diverse. There are wine and beer tasting events that are so fun! Staff is also quite friendly which is the case at all Heinen’s!

By Tony J |

From an architectual and store setting, arguably one of the most beautiful and unique grocery store in the country. Originally a bank from 1908 designed by George Browne Post, architect of the New York Stock Exchange, this 27,000 square foot grocery stores is a must visit. It's a great place to start your day as you can pick up a fresh cup of gourmet coffee and a days provisions to carry you throughout your day seeing the sites.

By Fern74 |

A beautiful neoclassical bank has been reinvented as a high-end grocery story and a wonderful community meeting place/wine bar/salad bar etc. I've never seen anything like it anywhere else.

By Beth V |

Yes, it a grocery store, but it's so much more. The rotunda is filled with ready to eat food, soups, salads and bakery. Grab table and enjoy lunch. Or visit in the evening for a wine tasting upstairs. Definitely worth a stop. One of a kind building. Even attracts wedding parties for photos.

I remember this building as a bank and then an empty building. It is now a really great place to go for a meal, or a glass of wine or even just for groceries. Heinen's did a wonderful job restoring this historic building and saving it from the wrecking ball.

By Barbara M |

We walked by here on our way back from the R&R Hall of Fame, while deciding where to eat for supper. Boy was I glad we stopped in. A beautiful building, impressive array of ready-to-eat foods, salads, rolls, pastry, cheeses, seafood, etc. We ended up buying WAY more than we needed, and took our purchase back to our hotel for a lovely meal, and there was enough fruit, cheese, and bread left for our breakfast the next morning!
Even if you aren't interested in eating there (there are tables and chairs if you'd like), you need to see it to believe it. Glad I don't live nearby, as I would spend my fortune and be as big as a house.

When I learned our Road Scholar group was to have lunch at a family run grocery store, I wasn't expecting much. What a surprise to walk into a 1908 former bank building with a stained glass rotunda! It's worth a visit even if you aren't hungry. But with myriad of delicious offerings, it would be hard not to indulge in something delicious.

Wonderful upscale grocery store we popped into befor the baseball game. They sell beer on the premises, if you want to partake at reasonable prices before the game.

By Codiak! |

This is a well stocked grocery store set in a beautiful historic building. The wine shop within is excellent too. Many people who work downtown enjoy the sumptuous food court which serves a delectable selection of food and beverages from 11:00 - 2:00 a.m. weekdays. Heinen’s is a gem in the downtown core and is not to be missed!

By CorallyH |

We stopped by for coffee and were awestruck when we opened the doors. This is the most beautiful building. I wish all grocery stores were like this one. We had coffee and bought pastries. I got an assortment of baked goods to take to my brother and his wife in Cranberry PA. They were so impressed with the assortment I brought commenting that even in their area they were hard to match. Go visit Heinen's when you are in town. It is a destination all on it's own.

By ohiorose58 |

Whenever I get a chance I stop in to enjoy beer, wine, and the full hot/cold food bar.
I think that they have one of the best Happy Hours in town. All of the employees I have encountered are helpful.

By Eilyk M |

It's hard to believe something this beautiful would be a grocery store. The building is conveniently located at a busy intersection and the inside is stunning!

The food selection is massive - with prepared foods and normal groceries all available.

What a gem in the city!

By northshoregirl1 |

We went here as it was rated as one of the top things to see/do in Cleveland, which I honestly am not sure why that is as its just a grocery store with a large beer/wine selection one one level and the main floor is a deli, salad bar and grocery . The one thing that makes it unique is the building, which is very pretty and inside the layout doesn't look like your typical store.

By Peniel414 |

I dare you to find a more impressive looking grocery store! What a beautiful just to walk around. In fact, during Cleveland Restaurant week, we agreed to meet another couple there since they had never been inside. We like Heinen's anyway, but this is it's crown jewel - with I could shop there more often.

By Ossenfogva |

What once was a premier banking place for Clevelanders is not a focal point for downtown shopping. From the wide variety of foods to the wine dispensing section (upstairs and relax) it's what downtowners have needed for decades. Ninth & Euclid has been a familiar intersection since...well, forever. Next to the '9' and right down from the theater district its location couldn't be better. Good enough to be a destination

By Frank D |

Upscale grocery in downtown Cleveland. High quality produce and meats, and you pay for it. Nice selection of wines and beer in bottles or by the glass on the second floor.

By Roadrunner717 |

So glad to see the building used for more than just dining like other former financial building are converted to today. This grocery is open for all to visit to see the grandeur of it form life.

By Thomas P |

Great place relay good meat good wine selection prices very fair for a downtown place. Real good produce. For downtown shopping its great.

By JazzingJersey |

Entered and it looked like a typical grocery store... thinking to myself What's the big deal. This is located in an old Trust Company Building... we went to the Food court and that is where it is Spectacular. Look up at the ceiling - just gorgeous - the 3 levels of this store have interesting architecture. 2nd Level has wine tasting dispensers where you can have a mere tasting, small portion or a regular glassful. Prices are according to the quality of the wine. The grocery store is organized very well

By PeacefullyPerfect |

Great place to get a healthy meal in Cleveland in a historic bank. The dessert and wine selections are amazing. The lasagna soup is hearty and filling. Great place to grocery shop.

By Michele K |

My niece and I stopped for lunch yesterday before heading to Playhouse Square to watch Love Never Dies. I am a loyal Heinen's customer and the Heinen's Downtown is by far the best I have ever seen. It is two stories with beer and wine and wine tasting events on the second floor. The first floor has a large cafeteria area on one side with tons of lunch options to choose from. On the other side is a grocery area. The architecture is incredibly beautiful and there are tons of photo opportunities for the camera lover. The employees are very friendly and helpful and the energy is uplifting.

By Naphtali H |

Arguably the most beautiful supermarket in the world. We went just to see it and stayed to enjoy a beer tasting. Is there another full service grocery in the US with such great facilities? Extensive selection of prepared foods as well as usual grocery items

By ChaseyK |

We have shopped at this location maybe 4 times over the past couple of years. Living on the far east side in the 'burbs', we actually take the time to show out of town guests downtown Cleveland and include this on our 'tours'. Heinen's is already a store with higher standards, but you add the history of the building, the architecture and then the prepared foods available and all are impressed. I am guessing the downtown residents take advantage of this location, but well worth the visit by anyone and highly recommended.

By mbc019 |

Great prepared food for takeout and other high end groceries. Beautiful historic building. Former bank includes rotunda with Tiffany glass. This store is a must see.

By jpmfll |

such a part of history.... a beautiful store like no other. great location a friendly staff. great food / wine selection

By Jennifer B |

I had never been there before, couldn't find anyone to help me, so I tried out one of the wines, whoops, spilled some, guess what...then someone shows up, I wish I could remember his name, some elderly guy, basically berated me about not doing it right, so wrong!

By ColoradoCheesehead |

On a recent trip to the city, I needed a grocery store and was directed here. As a history nerd, I loved it! I think I spent too much time here but the staff was wonderful and very helpful plus the building is stunning!! I love seeing buildings repurposed and saved!!!

By JessieMom |

Along with being a beautiful grocery store with interesting foods, there are wine and beer tastings and a lot of take out food so you can stop here and pick up lunch or dinner and go to a park to enjoy! Worth just walking inside to look, but I guarantee you will have to eat something!

By Lia H |

Think of this place as a pretty grocery store where you just want to sit and hang out. So pretty inside, with tables so you can get food and eat in or take out. They had quite an extensive buffet, and everyrhing looked really fresh. Upstairs wine and beer for sale and tasting. Loved it.

By Thomas V |

One of the staff welcomed us and showed us around the re-positioned classic bank building. This has long been a Cleveland landmark, but now it's a grocery store. Very beautiful.

By janice z |

This downtown grocer has hit it head on. They cater to business and professionals and make it so easy to eat healthy.

By wyotraveler6616 |

Great to see a beautiful old building kept up and used. Loved the architecture on the outside and inside.

By Ken C |

If you're in the area, stop in here to take a look at the architecture. It really is beautiful. You don't need to purchase anything and you can also go up to the 2nd floor and take a look around.

By ChiroDoc |

If you appreciate the architecture of the building, you'll enjoy a visit here.

We were passing through with young children and did not have a chance to enjoy the wine bar upstairs.

Always nicer to come during the day to see the dome lit up. If you're passing by it's worth a visit but do not go out of your way to come here.

By Anniebelle38 |

I am not a fan of downtown Cleveland, but after visiting this Heinen's location, this would be one benefit of working in the city.

By Palomo55 |

This is totally worth the visit, and can take as little as 5 minutes. To enter and see the rotunda with the stained glass, supposedly by Tiffany, and the details on the railings is a great experience. If you can stay, there is wine tasting on the second floor, and everything a grocery store has, such as baked goods, etc... Great value!

By Monique H |

Top notch market in a historic and gorgeous building!! Prepared foods were fresh and had a great selection of produce!

By sandon55 |

We visited the judicial court buildings for college mock trials for law schools. Downtown Cleveland was a ghost town. Very clean but extremely windy. More than even Chicago. Very few restaurants where we were and traveled out of town for dinners. Good to see but not worth going back.

By Lynn M |

If we lived in downtown Cleveland, I would want to live near Heinen’s. To be able to walk to and from your loft apartment to get your groceries would be a dream come true.

We enjoyed the architecture of this building and love that Cleveland repurposes these beautiful old bank and trust buildings.

We spent most of our time on the second floor in the wine tasting area. It took us a while to figure out the system, but once we did, we were on a roll.

You have to go and load up a card with money. (It looks like the machines would take credit cards, but they don’t.) You can sample the offered wines by paying for a sip or by the ounces. The fun part of the “sip” is you can have a “sip” of a $125 bottle of wine and not have to buy the whole bottle.

By Chico C |

Make sure you get something to eat here. The food is wonderful. Also a grocery store attached. Go upstairs and get a drink and soak in the atmosphere.

By WillIGoBack |

Beautiful building lots of history. Check out the atrium. Wine and beer upstairs. They have a great happy hour. Lots of great selections even wine from Ohio.
Will I Go Back? Yes. Wish we lived here so we could shop there

By Sue |

Awesome shopping experience, everything you would hope for in a grocery store. Spectacular ceiling in the area you can order fresh seafood, cheeses, ice cream, with sitting under the ceiling. Second floor all the beer and wine to choose from. With its own wine tasty space.

By keyeslaw |

You step into the building and look up at the rotunda and you say wow. Its a grocery store with lots of prepared foods. Good selection of other goods a little pricey but what the hey.

By eastcoaster101 |

Downtown Cleveland seems to be lacking from shopping experiences, but this grocery store is worth a visit. Close to many hotels, the building is beautiful and worth visiting for a meal or to pick up a few groceries.

By MrFrump |

With all the options for groceries, plus all sorts of food and drinks to enjoy in the store, you can't go wrong here. I especially was impressed with the beer selection. Beautiful architecture, as well.

By 96skb |

We decided to grab a few things and have a picnic dinner in our hotel room after a long, rainy day. The building was gorgeous and we managed to find some great things to eat. Unfortunately, we were there close to closing, so they were low on some items. The upstairs tasting area looked wonderful, and we'd love to return to try it out sometime!

By Thomas V |

Out with the family to see what has happened with downtown. Very impressed with this conversion of an old beautiful bank building. I think it used to be the Cleveland Trust. Now it's an upscale market with lots of prepared foods. A pleasure to be in and I am so happy they preserved the architecture.

By parkervj |

A one-of-a-kind grocery store with unique and organic fruits/veggies, an olive bar, fresh meats, and wines on the second floor. A huge buffet of prepared foods (and a microwave!), salad bar, deli/grill, and an awesome selection of side salads with all ingredients listed! And if that doesn't fill you up, there's a bakery with irresistible treats. Checkout is very fast, even during the lunch rush. If you can stay to eat, be sure to look up at the beautiful restored architecture of the building. No other place like it in the states.

By Paula K |

Heinen's has the best stores around and downtown is no exception, Plus it's in an old bank and the food they serve is exceptional! Not to mention the wine!

By PatCincinnati |

Great location for a grocery and it is full service. Stopped by just 'cause we don't have this in Cinti and we found lots of things: Sushi, fresh bread, lots of prepared foods in addition to typical grocery. Would be good to get food to eat as well as take out/home.

By Nancy B |

Great spot for wine tastings. Love the views. Not situated the best when checking out. Only 1 person, so you wait in line for everything you want. No water bottles available upstairs for sale. I wanted to try samples, but it was $3.50 to buy a card, then you have to figure out how much you're going to drink from the samples. I might not ever go there again, so I'm not going to spend $20 and be stuck with unused $ on the card. They don't give refunds on unused $.

By savytraverlor43323 |

We took a happy hour cruise and a couple of locals told us about this grocery store. It was close to our hotel so it was a no-brainer to check it out. The place is simply beautiful. It is a old bank that is now a grocery store. It only takes a few minutes to see but they have food options if you want to enjoy a lunch and just soak in the ambiance.

By Hygienist83 |

It's hard to believe a grocery store is one of my favorite downtown places for a quick bite to eat.
The store it absolutely beautiful and historical.
Upstairs wine and beer are for sale. They host wine and beer tasting events as well.
I love the wine dispensers that you can get 3 different size tastings according to what you want. Wine card must be purchased to use in dispensers. If you're downtown its worth a trip to see this fantastic store.

By EDDIE APPLEFELD |

This is a market in the heart of the city...it's a popular spot for locals but if you're a visitor don't miss it, especially the ceiling...all kinds of food and the aroma inside will stimulate your appetite

By Bloomerl |

I was curious what Heinen's grocery store could do with the iconic Cleveland Trust Bank building. It was worth a look-see. They maintained the architecture of this lovely old building while integrating the commodities necessary for the retail business. They've included a large prepared food area with indoor and outdoor tables at which to eat, as well as a large selection of wines on the second floor balcony.

By rickcF7265QV |

Even if you don't want to purchase any groceries, this is a fascinating store.- worth visiting just to see what they have done to what was previously a bank. (And excellent grocery items if you do want some.)

By daxmurphy |

Next to the Metropolitan At 9 Autograph Hotel here is a historic building take to upscale grocer delights.

The rotunda and architecture alone are worth enjoying. There are fresh fish, meat, deli, bakery, salad and other stations surrounding first floor seating. Off to the side are aisles of regular grocery aisles.

On the upper level buy craft beers or dyi wine tasting and snacks.

My sister in law did a wine tasting . Then we grabbed goodies to make a night of noshing in our hotel room.

By Donna E |

A full, working grocery store, with a hot food bar. Many choices for lunch - and plenty of seating in the center under the gorgeous, huge glass dome. Lovely venue for lunch downtown.

By ddallas1969 |

I was staying only 1 block away and was able to get my organic, vegan, gluten free food here. Not only do they have something for everything (a lot of hot, prepared food), but the building is breathtaking inside! Go even if you don't need to buy anything.

By Charlene C |

Stopped in for lunch. The salad bar has great selections. Items was fresh. You could eat inside or take out. Price was reasonable.

By sc0ttd0uglass |

Great market downtown where you would not expect it to be in a gorgeous building from the turn of the century (1900, not 2000). Good food in nice surroundings.

What's not to like?

By 864dearraed |

I was pleased to discover this on one of my visits downtown. The set up in thoughtful, the facility is gorgeous, and the corned beef sandwich is to die for.

By Dunc1971 |

This grocery store is located on Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland. It's housed in an old bank. There is a market-style section with deli counters and if you look up, you'll be amazed! A stunning domed ceiling. Great selection of high end, quality food and gorgeous fruit and vegetables. Recommended if you're visiting Cleveland...and you should!

By lunahalogirl |

We were passing through Cleveland for the day and heard about Heinen’s Downtown and put it on our list. We went specifically to have lunch and refuel the car-trip snack bag. It was amazing. First of all the building is impressive. Old architecture complete with murals depicting the city’s history display a unique beauty in which to eat lunch. So many delicious options made choosing difficult. My daughter and I chose wraps, mine with grilled eggplant and peppers, hers with chicken and avocado, both with a yummy sauce. We paired with soup from the soup bar...both choosing the tomato bisque which was outstanding. My husband chose fried fish from the hot bar with macaroni and cheese. Everyone was super happy. We then toured the second level to view the rotunda and murals above. Finally we ventured into the grocery aisles and picked up snack items and beverages and were back on the road.

We parked in a garage by CVS very close. It cost $10, but as tourists we thought it was worth it for the experience.

Absolutely every employee we encountered was a stellar individual, from the deli staff, luncheon cashiers, and grocery cashiers and bagger. Super friendly and helpful.

By KateTay329 |

Stopped in here with my family when staying at the Hampton Inn. We wanted just a quick bite to hold us over until dinner later that night. This place was so pretty! The upper level had an amazing wine and beer selection to enjoy there or take out. The lower level had a grocery section and was similar to an upscale food court. Would definitely stop in again when in Cleveland.

By SUSAN L |

This is a food store in an old bank. Ceiling and murals are interesting to look at. There is a food court and we were sorry we found this on our last day in Cleveland, otherwise we would have had dinner or lunch. Upstairs they have wine tastings. They have a great variety of food at reasonable prices.

By Matt S |

Even if you don't buy anything here....stopping in is definitely well worth it! This reuse of an old bank building is incredible. The architecture and layout is well worth wandering around the multi-floor grocery. Of course, then there's the baked goods, the candy goods, the incredible-looking meat counter, and a fantastic selection of groceries overall!

By mjudd448 |

The first floor has ready made food and regular groceries, but upstairs is unique. You can taste any wines through some sampler machines on the walls and then order bar food and have a happy hour! It was so interesting. I have never seen anything quite like it, truly original.

By _jradtke117 |

You can get all your good shopping done here they are so helpful not like other stores there different

By spajnky |

One of our friends recommended we stop in for a visit. We didn't have much time between our Rock' n Roll visit and dinner, but we managed to take a quick tour and squeeze in a bit of wine tasting.

The 1st floor is a grocery store with all kinds of fresh foods. If I lived anywhere near, I'd be in each day for my meals. The 2nd floor offered wine tasting where one pays a minimum of $20 to sample different wines in either 3, 6, or 9oz tastings. Of course you can spend more that the minimum.

This has to be on everyone's list while visiting Cleveland. We all agreed that next time we would spend more time.

By shellstravel66 |

So very glad Heinens opened!!!!! Such a beautiful building to have been closed for so long. Great idea on the second floor with the small servings of wine. Not to mention the great groceries. You should definitely stop in for a surprise shopping trip!

By Debbie F |

Heinen's downtown Cleveland is an unexpected treasure. Heinen's is an upscale grocery providing all varieties of meats, cheeses, produce and anything and everything else one might need in a grocery. However, Heinen's is in a fantastic old bldg with great architectural details. The second floor has a variety of taps for wine & beer tasting and sampling in various sizes. The atrium ceiling is stained glass with hand painted murals below done by artist Millet. There are tables where patrons may sit and enjoy their wine, beer or ready to eat trays of cheeses, charcuterie and many other selections. The staff was both friendly and knowledgeable. Who knew going to a grocery store could be so fun. A treasure.

By Katherine R |

I visit every time I bring someone new downtown. I live in a nearby suburb but enjoy taking a quick “staycation” downtown. Whether I’m with friends, family, teens, co-workers, I always stop at Heinens downtown. It’s an old bank converted into a grocery store. It’s impressive how they maintained the beauty of the original building. Beautiful ceiling. And the food is good too - a lot of prepared food. I get sushi and sit at the tables outside and watch the work go by. Upstairs there is a beer and wine tasting area.

By Attkica |

We went upstairs and had a beer and sat around awhile. Very beautiful building. We did not buy anything but the deli choices was fantastic.

By MAUREJ |

We stopped in Heinen's after visiting the Tock and Roll Hall of Fame. We were looking for a restaurant for lunch and someone recommended Heinen's. At first I was disappointed that it wasn't a sit down restaurant. I'm a picky eater and didn't see any restaurant in the area that I wanted to eat at. We ordered sandwiches which were freshly made delicious. We also got pastries at the bakery in the store which were wonderful. It's not a sit down restaurant but it is a great place to eat lunch.

By Kathryn H |

The second level wine and beer store/tasting area is a must see. Happy hours occur during the week, the architecture is beautiful, and the meat/product is excellent and fairly priced.

By Susan N |

This local grocery store is in the historic Cleveland Trust Rotunda Building, which was built in the early 20th century. The building is one of the most recognizable and iconic buildings in Cleveland. While strolling in Downtown Cleveland, I enjoy going inside for a bite to eat. I sit at a table in the rotunda and gaze at the domed stain-glass ceiling. When I shop, the produce and prepared foods are fresh.

By SIlentThunder1642 |

This ended up being my wife's favorite place in Cleveland. We stopped here multiple times during our weekend stay. Fresh salad bar, soups, sandwiches, etc... Everything was great. They also have a grocery store on the other side. We didn't venture up to the other levels, but this was another amazing old Cleveland building downtown.

By we_out |

A must stop when in Cleveland. We decided to grab a quick breakfast (bagels and coffee). Plenty of tables to eat in. Make sure you go upstairs to see the wine and beer bar. The building is beautiful.

By Elysium_Dream |

Who knew a grocery store could be so cool? It's got several rooms, so if you're going with a group, be sure to have a rendezvous point. Check it out for a great selection of all the things organic, natural, and gourmet.

By The HC’s Gone Travelling |

Our group originally went in to try out the wine bar but when we arrived we got talking to a member of staff who gave us a fully on history lesson on the building and even took us out the back to show us the old vault doors! (If you didn't know, it used to be the Cleveland Trust building).
For any movie fans, the building was used in the first Avengers movie when Captain America is saving some people :)

By Maureen R |

I stayed nearby for a conference and decided to save my organization a bit of money by getting breakfast fixings here and also got take away a couple times (amazing salad bar and discounted sushi on Wednesdays!). Spent quite a bit of time in both grocery store and the other areas just browsing and enjoying. Terrific variety of food, well worth a trip!

By Aud E |

We stopped here for dinner. Only to find that all of the deli/hot bar was pulled out and empty at 6pm! The place was beautiful and looked like it would have had a good selection. Definitely head to the rotunda area and check out the artwork.

By Geri Z |

Congratulations to Heinen's for having the foresight and taking this once vibrant, beautiful building and turning it into a "must see" grocery store in downtown Cleveland. One can be overwhelmed on their first visit. Just looking up and the painting on the rotunda and witness the history in this building. The store offers so much more then groceries. It offers a wonderful selections of entree selection for downtown workers and visitors to an evening of wine or beer tasting. Good for you Heinen's to give a new purpose to this historic building.

By barbarasI5836KJ |

This store is gorgeous...it's a rotunda, and you feel like you're shopping somewhere special from the moment you walk in. It's attached to the swank 9 hotel, and you can access it from a back door in the 9 that has it's own awesome staircase, but that's another tale.

By ARTJPL |

Opinion is based solely on architectural angle as we didn’t shop or dine here. This used to be Cleveland Trust and there is a beautiful rotunda under which there is now tables/chairs for customers dining in the store. As the historic building has been repurposed into a Whole Foods like grocery store, you could stop to look at the rotunda and shop/dine if short of time.

By Susan F |

This is one of the most beautiful old buildings in America. The murals and stained glass dome are amazing. The wine tasting room and food kept us there for hours!

By critic119 |

The stained-glass dome is beautiful and worth the trip by itself. The main room has deli cases all around the perimeter and tables in the middle to grab a bite. The 2nd floor has a wine dispenser so you can try a sample or a glass. Park at the Prospect lot for a discount. The card they gave us says park free at Euclid but edits are after 4 pm & the spend $50 part was crossed out so I am not clear if it's free or $7. Either way get a validated ticket at customer service and DONT pay before leaving the garage to go to the store, Tell them you are going to Heinen's and pay upon return.

By L3589DWgaryh |

Look am at this place 7 days a week every one knows me and show a lot of love and respect so my money well spend. I get hot food cold cuts fresh fruit steaks and a host of other things it works for me.

By shafr27 |

Grocery store with a local vibe. Went there for beer and snacks, and the selection was very basic, not that great for a grocery store (no Michelob Ultra, don't judge, it was for my wife). Seemed clean and kind of a throwback to the local grocer days. But when we checked out, the girl was downright rude and uninterested. I don't consider myself to have difficult standards - basic politeness is good enough for me. The girl was short with us, noticeably unfriendly, and yawned dramatically in the middle of our transaction. She did not exchange any pleasantries whatsoever, and offered no bag, so we ended up carrying an unbagged 12 pack of beer several blocks downtown to the hotel. I have fairly low standards for acceptable service and they were leagues from being met.

By sharimathisen |

There was all kinds of salads, soups, decadent desserts, main dishes to shop for in the roomy room with lots of counters. Desserts were especailly great

By Sandy K |

I was bowled over by the amazing display of baked goods, salads, sandwiches available for immediate consumption. I wish I lived closer and could eat here every day! We enjoyed a pecan cinnamon role and coffees from the free-trade coffee shop, which was a bit tricky to find, hidden behind the pastries. I was most impressed by the conversation I had with the barista, who told me that Heinen's is one of the most queer-friendly employers in the Cleveland area, providing protections well beyond what is required. So, good food in an interesting atmosphere, with LGBTQ-friendly policies. Doesn't get much better than that!

By nowpacking |

Originally a bank from 1908 designed by George Browne Post, architect of the New York Stock Exchange, this is a must stop - to not only see the amazing architecture but also to buy some delicious snacks, breakfast or lunch. Yummy everything - great selections of prepared foods, baked goods , deli and fresh meats and seafood.

By TR26 |

I'm writing this review and thinking it's a bit unfair. We went up to Heinen's for lunch, and their food court is still largely closed. None of the highly-regarded soups. No deli options. You get garb-and-go wrapsm prepackaged sushi, salad-in-plastic--tho' the salad bar is now open again, so that's a plus.

Their 2nd floor balcony wine and beer sdction offers wine by the glass, but getting some is daunting for the occasional visitor. You must buy a special wine card for $3 at the register, load cash onto it, and then operated the self-serve wine dispensers. As I browsed the wines, I found that at least one of them was mislabeled--the little digital screen said it was a 2015 vintage estate Pinot Noir for $15 a pour, while the bottle had a brand name label and a 2019 vintage. Meanwhile, one register was closed, and when I found the second it was unoccupied--the clerk was sistting at the customer counter on his smartphone--he seemed entirely unconcerned hat the wines were misrepresented and mispriced.

You should enjoy the architecture of this lovely domed building, but until downtown Cleveland bounces further back from Covid, don't count on their former high standarfds.

By NorthStar779040 |

While Heinens is a great local grocery chain, the real reason to visit the downtown location is the building. Walk in and look up at the amazing painted dome. Head to the 2nd floor to sample the many bears and wines available. Lots of prepared hot meals. Of course, a decent grocery store as well. Worth a visit.

By DocMary1 |

Fun food in a beautiful atmosphere! I spent as much time wandering as I did grocery shopping. Don’t miss the murals!

Don’t miss all of the different food bars- everything from poke to fried chicken. Salad bar, sushi, hot bar, cold salads. There are regular groceries here too... A wide variety of coffee and desserts. Probably not the best for dieters but it sure was lovely fun!

By Ann N |

I just popped in for some snacks to take back to the hotel. I am old enough to remember the rotunda when it was a bank, and what Heinen's has done is remarkable. The rotunda holds a deli, while basic groceries are in a shelving area which is a bit tight but I believe it was an old vault. Employees are friendly. Would be a boon if the condos in downtown take off.

By KatMIA |

Just had a nice nice here. We just opt for sushi because it was after 2 and the grill had just closed. Sushi was good. Atmosphere was fabulous. Market is very reasonable to shop and eat. Happy hour starts at 4.

By globetrottingYankee |

A small upmarket grocery in downtown Cleveland. It was notably compliant to COVID safety. It’s a good place to grab fresh fruit, salads and deli. Interestingly, I found here lovely vintages of Portuguese Alentejano reds and Gran vin Bordeaux clarets at very low prices.

By Sheryl M |

Love Heinen's store for groceries. Produce always fresh. This store in downtown Cleveland is in a renovated building. The ceiling is beautiful with architecture. Worth the visit to see the building's architecture. Even if u don't need groceries, stop in on the second floor for wine or beer sampling.

By MSO70 |

If you are traveling downtown Cleveland stop into Heinen's. The store is jam packed with so many varieties, I purchased nibble food to have in my hotel room. The produce looked like an ad in a food magazine. The market was very friendly and they do take a credit card.

By tweetyhollo |

Second floor wine tasting stations are excellent. A reasonable amount of grocery items in a smaller than usual grocery store. Worth a visit.

It's a gorgeous venue for a grocery store. Look up when you first walk in and the view is breathtaking. Good selection of prepared foods and the wine tasting area on the second floor would make for a great date night.

Who would have thought that a grocery store could be a tourist attraction? But they preserved the gorgeous old Cleveland Trust bank building and re-purposed it as an upscale grocery. There are historic photos on display. Enthusiastic employees.

They gloat over having a fresh bakery, fresh meat and seafood counter, prepared foods, delicatessen counter, but it’s all shut down since COVID 2 years ago and never reopened!! It is just a supper sized convenient store now.

Heinen's is a Cleveland based grocery chain. Their downtown location is in a historic bank building featuring a large rotunda with stained glass. The store is located on multiple levels and features a large selection of beer, wine, and prepared foods. It it exceptionally popular and can be very busy during the lunch hour and after work for wine tasting events.

I was working and living downtown for a month without a car and thanks to Heinen's I had better quality of life. Good assortment of food, many organic and local products.....in an inspiring place with an upstairs area with wines and beers and even a lounge and bar. Amazing!

Would love to shop here everyday. The place is beautiful, the food offerings are great and the upstairs wine and beer selection is fun to wander through and do tastings. Great use of a classic building.

This store is so much fun to visit. Not only is it in a historical building that has been preserved but it is a hub of activity. You can taste wine, eat lunch or just shop. Well worth the time to visit.

I came here on a Sunday morning. I thought that they opened at 8am, but I was wrong. They actually open at 9am. The store is located inside a historic bank building and is essentially a fancy, artisanal grocery store, like Whole Foods (but without the juice bar, hot bar and free samples). They have a cold bar and a salad bar and a lot of prepared food, which looked delicious! But since I was planning on buying something at West Side Market soon, I opted to just browse. After going to West Side Market and seeing that the crepe stand and the gyro stand were closed, I opted to come back here for an early lunch. I bought food from the salad bar and the cold bar, which is priced by weight (mine came to about $7, which is pretty good). The food was also quite good! It was healthy and flavorful! After finishing the container and realizing that I was still hungry, I opted to get some more food, this time from the prepared foods counter. I got a Zucchini & Feta Cake (kind bland to be honest), Lemon Risotto Cake (good but a bit dry), Teriyaki Sho Mai (sweet), Parmesan Scalloped Potatoes (creamy), and Vegan Mandarin Chicken Nuggets (crunchy and tangy). Out of the prepared foods, my favorite would have to be the Parmesan scalloped
Potatoes. I prefer their salad and cold bar to their prepared foods to be honest. Either way, I loved my experience here! I love Whole Foods, and since this is similar to Whole Foods, it’s not surprise that I love this grocery store! If I was living here, I would definitely frequent here often. And it’s in the heart of downtown too!

Excellent reuse of an old bank. The architecture is amazing. The grocery store works really well in the space, with prepared foods located under the rotunda. Great wine bar up stairs, has wine dispensers for tasting, as well as large wine selection. Must stop in just to see building if for nothing else.

I've been here for lunch and dinner - good prepared food, a wine bar upstairs, one of our locally owned grocery stores and the most beautiful! Stop in before an Indians game - bring your camera!

What an unexpected great find. If you're downtown, right next to the Metropolis Hotel, you open a door that brings you into a terrific eatery connected to a full formal grocery store. There's a huge assortment of items to tempt you which you can take to-go or eat at one of the many tables there. Upstairs offers a large wine tasting atmosphere and superb assortment of items to purchase. There's discount hours offered for half price glasses as well. Heinen's is worth a look as it's hard to walk out without buying something!

Just a perfect grocery store to have downtown - really cool building, very friendly people, delicious soup/salad bar, great bowls/wraps made fresh. The deli and prepared foods section is outstanding - second level for drinks, and of course all the regular aisles of a grocery store. Heinens does a great job!
