My family visits this wonderful treasure about once a month. It essentially recreates the rural Appalachian experience from over a century ago. A petting zoo, an old schoolhouse, an old country store, terrific exhibits, excellent crafts, good food. If you want your children to have an appreciation of their pioneer heritage, this is a superb experience. There is nice lodging if you want to more completely immerse yourself and your family in experiencing what it was like living in rural American in the 1800s and early 1900s. It frequently has special events, including old-time music and craft demonstrations, and an annual pass is terrific value. But whether you live in the area or travel there to step back into time, you won't regret your visit.

I would say this museum is off the beaten track to many tourists but very worthy a visit. It is an outdoors museum and they have little trucks to transport the ones who are not big fan of walking “big distances” between one settlement to another. In each settlement they have a house built in the style of that persons country, a little veggie garden to show what they used to eat and how they lived back in those days, chicken breed from their country etc( they are adorable and free roaming, specially the german chickens )it teaches us how the many immigrants settle in the US back in the colonial times and their national influence in our culture. Totally recommend it.

This is a treasure for all ages! The Perry's have worked tirelessly to put together this wonderful place. It has grown so much since it's humble beginnings and the history you can learn and experience on Pioneer Days is fabulous!! The doll museum is really a rare treat and the work that went into that place boggles the mind. I love the church, it is truly as if you step back in time. A great place for family gatherings of all kinds!

I was here on business for a series of workshops. I was unable to really explore the farm but it looks very interesting and I'm looking forward to coming back for pleasure.
We did pause for lunch and I was able to eat at their little diner in the gift shop (which is what I'm reviewing). The food was good, the menu selection is what one would expect given that this isn't a restaurant per se, the staff was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. The menu basically consists of soup, salad, sandwich, and dessert.
In a nut shell: if you come here to visit the farm do not bring your lunch or leave for lunch. I recommend eating here.
That being said, if you like soda, you're out of luck. I think that's a great thing but I assume some people might want to plan accordingly.
PS- the picture I included is merely the view from our workshops...as scenic as this view is, the rest of the property is much better.

I read reviews before I went. I do not understand why it was rated so high. The tour guide was a former special education teacher and I am a current special education teacher. It was more interesting talking "shop" than discussing the exhibits. Touring three buildings was not worth $8.00.

We visited the new Mountain Rim Bike Farm at Heritage Farm and boy did we enjoy ourselves. We will return again & again. Thank you for this fun “gas tank get-away”!

Great place to visit. Incredible collection of small museums each dedicated to a different facet of the past - daily life, transportation, local industry. Very friendly and informative staff. Way Back Weekends on the first Saturday of every month are a treat for the whole family. Live craft demonstrations, petting zoo and good food. Check website for regular hours and tours. Also have cabins for rent and hiking trails.

I decided to go there today, I arrive just as they were opening. I got a tour by a man named Dan. He is awesome. Very knowledgeable. He was very nice and took the time to explain everything. The buildings are in excellent shape to be so old. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't pay enough to see inside all of them. I was more disappointed that they didn't mention this when I was paying. It should be an option or at least included in the $12 tour price. I did get to see the doll museum. Not really a museum but one of the best displays of dolls I have seen. The work that went into that alone is amazing. I'm not a real doll fan either. If you like history or like seeing old things. This place is great. The movie they offer to show you at the beginning should be watched. It's actually done very well. I found it interesting. Thank you Dan for a great tour.

We were not expecting to spend over 4 hours at Heritage Farm today. It was well worth the ticket price. We did almost everything and it was so much fun. Wagon ride, animals, tree house trek, the museums, the list goes on and on. Highly recommend.

We go mostly to see the animals but they usually have a new exhibit which is entertaining and educational. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgable

Want to know what it was like to live before electricity, on a farm? Take a ride on the tractor train, see how simple machines work to make farm life easier, have lunch and enjoy the petting zoo, the playground and a doll museum, Hands-on experience - pump water from a well, milk a cow, gather eggs, churn butter, use a pulley system to get hay in the loft and so many other fun things. Plan to stay all day!

Literally neat. Mown, tidied, clean, in good repair. Fun place to spend an afternoon. Easy access from 74.

Our most recent visit to Heritage Farm was for the annual benefit concert for Faith in Action of the River Cities. This concert has become a tradition for us. The setting is so lovely: the log church decked with holly and greens and candles in the widows. The music performed by Marshall University's Music faculty is rich and diverse, and the sing-along at the end (accompanied by the antique pump organ) is great fun. The Perrys (owners of Heritage Farm) donate the use of the church for this event.
We enjoy visiting on the Farm for many different occassions and always find something new and interesting. It is a great place for children. This spring, be sure and check out the new pollination garden that they are putting in and watch the honey bees at work in their glassed in hive.

An amazing place to take a family of all ages, my children aged 3,5 and 10 all find things they love to do. The museums and the displays on grounds are top notch.

I recently took two of my three children here for the day, and they loved it! There was so much for them to do and see. During the summer, Heritage Farm offers a kids day on Wednesday, and it's a perfect way to spend the day. It was also convenient for us that they close at 3. We packed a lunch, spent the day there, and at 3, I was able to say, "Time to go, they're closing!" And be home with napping kiddos in time to make dinner.

Great Christmas lights and tour of old fashioned buildings and makings of craftsmen. The food was great which was made on the grounds

We had a 9, 10, and 13 year old and 4 adults. We were surprised by the amount of things there was to see and do. Great petting zoo. The kids had fun with the tomahawk throwing. Zoo staff was very knowledgeable about their animals.

"One man's junk/garbage is another man's treasure," is a popular saying here in Appalachia. We are the original recyclers, before it was a cultural movement, and Mr. Perry, the founder of the Heritage Farm Museum and Village, put this notion into one of the Gems of our region...As you drive out this winding road, the houses become cabins, and all of a sudden you see what looks like a movie set from an old western, or maybe you've gone back in to a simpler time; with your windows down, and the sounds of kids playing in the fields, the water trickling in the creek, and the smell of smoke filtering through the vehicle, you wonder what might be cooking in those big ole heavy iron skillets. This is when you know you've reached your destination even before the GPS announces it, with an unrelenting recalculating warning when the turn off is just hidden enough you go past it...never fear, you can turn around at the big barn with the quilt painted on it's side, or just park there and walk down to the main entrance. The people are all friendly and welcoming here, always wanting to tell you a story or point to one of the buildings and ask "Did you see?" The hollow is full of all sorts of treasures from a simpler life gathered lovingly, and set to a new purpose - to the wonderment of ingenuity and necessity in a by gone time. Plan to spend the day, weekends are the best time to go, all the buildings are open and the café. If you want to spend the night cabins are available and you can even get hitched in the beautiful chapel. During the fall the Way Back Weekends are a favorite, the first weekend of every month and they do have an iron skillet cook off, artisans, singers, and lots of hands on activities. Check their website for themes. I was born and raised just outside of town and I take all my family there to have a good time and relax and feel welcome, and I never tire of it ...so, when you got some time to kill and you're up on the Interstate 64, come by and see what treasure you can find and stories you tell of things remembered and then go home and fine something to repurpose...it's all good.

Definitely the highlight of our trip to West Virginia! Kids had a blast and we all learned a lot! Highly recommended

Great park, grandkids loved the petting zoo. The wood shop display and demo was outstanding. The professional carpenter was excellent and very knowledgeable.

What a great place. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. It w amazing all the things they have there. Highly recommend s topping here

This place is great. Lots for the kids to see and do - it has a petting zoo, a "please touch" kids museum area, an outdoor playground, several museum buildings, a train, a cafe ... everything you can think of! Free parking! The people were super friendly and helpful as well. And on Wednesdays through the summer(at least) discounted admission and added kids activities. My daughter and I really enjoyed a Wednesday spent here and I highly recommend it for families!

This is such a unique and fun place to visit. There is something to see/do for the whole family. The Perry family is very hands on and makes everyone feel welcomed. Events are held regularly that showcase different types of artisans. You truly won't be disappointed and definitely will enjoy your visit.

The Crocodile Hunter encouraged not only to look at animals but to get in there and explore. You can touch many of the items at the museum. Turn the crank of an old washing machine, open a box on a nail bin, move a plug on the operators phone line. Rates to rent a house on property were amazing! $350 for a four bedroom for two nights right in the heart of the property! There are many things to do here check often for actives going on. www.heritagefarmmuseum.com

Me and my little brother went on the big ropes course, and it was amazing! The facilitators were so nice and funny! It was a great time, highly recommend!

What a wonderful place. So interesting and informative. The staff was eager to engage us and explain the exhibits. The petting zoo was the best I've ever seen. The animals were obviously well cared for, the spaces were clean, and the guide made sure our grandchildren understood the uniqueness of each animal.
We spent 4 hours there and did not see it all. We will go back soon.

If you are into history, I would highly recommend stopping by the Heritage Farm Museum and Village and checking out the museums in the village. There is plenty to see and do for the whole family. Kids would have a blast at the Village with the arts and crafts they offer. The blacksmith was nice to see in action. Make sure you have comfortable walking shoes on.

Thank you so much for a wonderful tour of the museums . I think Cody was the name of our tour guide and he is so very knowledgeable and helpful. He gave us an amazing amount of history and had answers for everyone. also the blacksmith who I think was Kevin was very helpful in his explanations. We really enjoyed watching him work. I don't remember the name of the tinsmith, but he too is a genius. We really enjoyed our time here.

This was a fun day that took you back in time. All of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. The museums were Smithsonian-quality. It took a couple of hours see everything and the price was only 12 bucks each.

I had always wanted to visit this attraction and after several years did so in September 2013. It is a history tour of how people lived in the area from the very first settler. It has a great selection of artifacts. It has a transportation museum with lots of old cars and how they were built and a county store. They show a 10 minute film on the history of the farm. Well worth it. The owners are on site and very nice. The tour guides and staff are very helpful and friendly.
It met my expectations and I would recommend it. But you need to know it is not the Smithsonian museum. Although it has a few things the Smithsonian does not.
The road there is very windy and narrow, so if you have a big RV it will be a challenge for you.
When you pull out of the lot to leave turn left. Big mistake if you go the other way.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this amazing PRIVATE COLLECTION of period antiques and all manner of pioneer-through-1900's. The tour guide was interesting and informative and welcomed us to take as many photos as we liked. The narrative was never boring as we were walked from building to building, either. After the tour, we were invited to explore the other areas that weren't part of the guided tour. We spent at least another hour walking around and poking in all the buildings. This is a definite stop for anyone traveling through southern West Virginia!

Our Corvette car club visited the museum on June 15, 2012. We were greated upon arrival and given a run down of what we would be seeing and asked if there were any special needs or concerns. The way that our guide wove history and the need for survival of the early settlers, brought to live just how difficult a task it was. But yet he showed how they built a strong sense of community. I would recommend this for any age or occasion. Yes, they do have meeting, conference, and social gathering facillities. Perfect for a reunion, wedding, or family retreat.

This place is big enough to be interesting, yet not so big you can't see it all in one visit. The replica Appalachian village along with the museums and petting zoo provide entertainment for folks of all ages and backgrounds. Once you pay your admission and get your sticker, you are free to visit any attraction on the premises that is open.
There was a blacksmith on duty the day I visited; just watching him do his craft was worth the price of admission. He said the fire which he used to heat the iron could reach as high as 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Yikes.
Besides that, there are various museums. If you want to see every one, plan your trip either on a Wednesday or Saturday. I was there on a Friday and I was able to visit the Progress, Country Store, and Transportation Museums. The latter two are self-explanatory; the first shows how innovations and technology have changed our lives from 1850 to this day. If you see the country store, note the pharmacy and compare how they did things then to today. I beg to say it may have been better then, without being cynical. If you're into old time cars and such, those on are display at the Transportation museum, as well as other places in the venue. All the museums offer informal guided tours if you want them for no extra charge.
The petting zoo is cool for kids and adults alike. Among other things there are llamas, pigs, sheep, even a dog and a cat.
The gift shop/visitor center has a menagerie of souvenirs, and there is a quaint cafe as well with reasonably priced (but limited) concessions.
It is conveniently located off Exit 8 of I-64 at the west end of Huntington. Signs are plentiful and easy to follow.

We enjoyed our visit to the Heritage Farm Museum very much. So much history to see and in a beautiful setting. This is a great place for all ages. Today we saw glass blowing which was very interesting.

This museum village has a unique collection of historical articles and is something most people would enjoy.

If you visit during one of their special Saturdays, they will be pleasantly crowded, there will be a hay ride, and you can visit all the buildings and the petting zoo, which has some cute babies to pet and some interesting (albino peacocks!) animals to look at. The kids will be able to do the hands-on activities, and they may have extras like face painting.
However, is a little aggravating to navigate with a stroller or a wheelchair, because the main walkway is covered with fine gravel, and the "accessible" areas require some lifting and muscle to get over the stoop. The early closing time of 3:00 pm is also problematic for anyone who works or goes to school.
If you manage to visit on a day other than a special Saturday, they act like you are trespassing on the property, and are very reluctant to give the advertised guided tour. Don't bother to ask about group rates at ANY time, because they pretend they don't exist, despite online writeups and advertisements.
I also inquired about having a party there, as encouraged on several pages of their website, including the Groups > General page: "Heritage Farm is the perfect setting for group tours, corporate retreats, family reunions, educational outings, church picnics, birthday parties, marriage seminars, school groups, etc. ... use your imagination and come spend some time in yesteryear with your friends."
http://www.heritagefarmmuseum.com/pages/aa-generalgroup.html
When I asked one of the owners about this in person, she told me that I was mistaken, that they haven't done parties on site in years, and that I shouldn't trust "word of mouth." Laura Perry further informed me that even if they were inclined to make an exception, she had a family commitment on the day I was interested in booking. Apparently she is the only employee that can be trusted with such an undertaking.
In summary, it's a great place to visit on a special event Saturday, but don't go for anything else.

Great, easy fun time with grandkids. Enjoyed the animals, kids museum & especially the ropes course. Perfect close to home day trip. Finished the adventure with a trip to the park and splash pad at St.Couds park. Perfect day.

I have heard about the Heritage Farm Museum for years and during a recent visit with family from California, thought it would be a nice way to enjoy the perfect spring day. We drove the short distance over from Charleston and could not have been more delighted. It was way more than we expected. We arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday (not one of their "Special Event" Saturdays) and the folks who greeted us could not have been nicer. It was a minimal fee for the guided tours (I think $8/adults and $7/seniors). The church was reserved for a 3:00 wedding that day, so we didn't get to go inside. However, the guided tours we took of three different museums were delightful. Each building was devoted to a different aspect of our American culture and history. One was basically American living and culture from the frontier to approximately the 1950s, one building was devoted to transportation through the ages, and another was an old-time General Store. Our guide, Dan, was a walking encyclopedia who knew what everything was and how everything worked. He was charming and a real story teller who made the tour a lot of fun. He really made history come alive and was a natural with the children who were just as engaged in the tour as the five adults in our party were. It was like walking through a living archive of history. We had just returned the weekend before from Washington, D.C. and this was just as fun and impressive as any museum there for the subject matter. We were amazed at the collection of pieces on display. In addition, the gentlemen who was running one of the antique printing presses was an interesting and engaging source of information who patiently explained how the printing press evolved through the centuries and how it worked. We were also lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the beautiful bride and her wedding party and guests following the wedding which just added to the charm of this quaint village. After the guided tours, we were free to explore on our own so we visited with some of the animals. In total, we spent about 3 hours there, although we could've spent more. We will definitely go back, hopefully on one of their special event Saturdays. We had no idea how nice our visit would be.

Quaint piece of Appalachian history suitable for all ages. Great early day trip- spend time walking around the back side and enjoy a nature hike while you're there. Great place for a wedding or small gathering.

We had a great time while spending our weekend at the Woodbury Inn. The kids would have liked a TV but all the adults were ok with not having one. It was clean and we had everything we needed. We plan on returning next year.

lovely lunch , followed by a very well done tour. Guide was well informed and kept us focused on the progress made in so many areas between 1850 and 1950.watched weaving , printing , fabric styles . I have been to several other "village reproductions" of earlier times.....this one is the best.

Thei collection of antiques in their museums is outstanding and organized. The animals and educational opportunities for children is excellent. Their buildings (general store, one room school house, church, inns, and others are really nice. Beautiful property. Great experience.

This is a great place to visit -- even without kids! From the maker space at the top of the hill past the barn and sawmill, past an exhibition of old vehicles to the slightly strange but amazing doll museum and the general store, this is a great place to visit while in the Huntington area. I tried to have lunch at the Artisan Cafe, but the wait was too long for my needs so I left. They have a camp for rising 4th through 6th graders next week and many special events. Highly recommended. Oh, they offer discount admission on Wednesdays.

The transportation time museum was excellent and the History museum of the evolving household was wonderful Mike Perry has put together a great place to visit his family was super nice

We had an amazing time. Much more to see than expected. Lots and lots of things to look at and do!! The doll and carriage house was really nice. A great display of talent. The Progress exhibit was great. All exhibits were great but I thought the progress display was neat to see. The various time periods and the progression was very interesting. The wagon ride was fun.

We were very impressed with the educational aspect and value of Heritage Farm!! How interesting it was to see how things originated and how they have progressed! The staff was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable and the displays were simply amazing! The murals room and transportation museum were our favorites!! How fascinating both were! Henriella, the co owner is the sweetest lady you will ever love and truly has a passion for keeping history alive. We will definitely return for a visit very soon, as we were delighted to find this place is open year round!!!!!

There is so much to see here. This museum gives you a glimpse of how life was in the early days in the Appalachian mountains. There are antique cars and trucks, radios, lots of old washing machines, antique tractors. Too much to see in one visit and there also is a cabin on the property where guests can stay the night.

Great experience. Worth the time. Came with my 82 year old mother and partially handicapped husband. Tour guide was wonderful and used a golf cart to make the tour more handicap accessible. I will recommend this to my daughter in law and their home school group. I grew up on Harvey Road in the early 70's and love WV history. This is a wonderful preservation of history and educational opportunity. It is obvious Much work went into the building of the exhibits. So much talent in WV.

We had a great visit and a wonderful guide at the Heritage Farm. Lots to see and learn about WV history.

A cool place to visit with small children as they have farm animals to pet and it is a cool place to learn about farm life during the early 1900s.

A real taste of Appalachian history -- the themed "Way Back Weekends" a fun look at the past. Nice cottages with bed 'n breakfast packages available.

I stopped here on a whim doing a cross country RoadTrip and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of things to do here. The staff in each exhibit was extremely knowledgeable about their topic and made the history much more tangible. I would definitely recommend this as a stop for the morning.

A wonderful place to take our grandchildren on Wednesday (Kids day) The employees are first class. The collection of museum items are Wonderful and priceless. Our grandchildren loved the activities and the petting zoo. The food was great. We will be back for another visit soon. A true GEM.

The students in my class really enjoyed their field trip to Heritage Farm. It kept the students engaged and it was very well organized.

My 2 y/o son and I had such a great first experience at Heritage during the Barnyard Basics tour with Cassidy. RL met us and picked us up in the golf cart which my son totally loved. We met all of the girls cleaning stalls and caring for animals. Each of them came to us and introduced themselves which was so nice. Although it is hard to keep a toddlers attention span for long, Cassidy was great at redirecting. We literally got to feed, water and scoop poop, exactly what I had hoped for. It really makes you have a greater appreciation for farms and he got to experience it. Cassidy, the girls, and RL were great and very sweet. They were all informative. My son got to pet the animals as well and Izzy, such a sweet barn dog. Again, this was our first experience to HFM&V. We bought annual passes because I know we will be visiting a lot. Next visit to see the village when it’s open to all.

The grounds are kept very nice. Hiking, swimming, tons of space and a stream for the kids to play and dig in. Lots of wildlife including rogs, turtles, fish, deer and tons of birds. Very memorable vacation. I recommend Heritage Farms!

Had a very nice time at the Museum and Village. Got there just in time as 2 groups of school kids were finishing their tour. My wife & i were the only 2 on our tour so we had time for talking to the guide on the side also. Got to see lots of interesting items, old cars TV's washing machines, just great. I mentioned the town we lived in and told him it was where the Courthouse scene and work shop scene for Shawshank Redemption movie was shot and he mentioned that he loved the movie and watched it 2 times and suggested his sister use it on a report she did in school.

We were not expecting to have such a wonderful tile this Dec when we were invited to a tour of their Christmas Village. The biildings and grounds were beautifully decorated, there was a live Nativity show, coral entertainment, a wagon ride, and of course Santa just to mention a few things. We were totally impressed. A great way to start the Holiday!

The staff were amazing! Everyone was super friendly, patient, and informative. They encouraged the kids on the obstacle course and made sure we had everything we needed while visiting. There are truly talented artisans hand making crafts, air conditioned museum buildings, UTV rides, wagon rides, 2 climbing courses, zip lines, animals, and more. A great place for the whole family.

Loved all the nostalgia and interesting exhibits. Our kids loved the hands on activities like grinding corn meal. Loved the wagon ride and play area. Cute restaurant, handmade items in the gift shop...Just a great day with the family. Very much recommend a visit!

This was a wonderful trip. I took a class of 20 preschoolers and some parent helpers and we had the best time ever. The information they provided was age-appropriate and interesting. The children had many lasting memories and have talked about it for days. We loved the wagon ride and the petting zoo the best!

Just returned from the Christmas holiday evening event . Very nice and informative . Loved the decorations and museums have so much to see ! Will have to return again to take it all in .

A step back in time to the Appalachian frontier. Beautiful log buildings coomprise the community, which includes 5 bed and breakfasts (immaculate and furnished with lovely antiques), many museums, church (available for ceremonies), a one room school house, meeting facilities and more.
There are two cabooses outfitted for overnight stays as well as a rustic cabin for the more adventurous. Miles of hiking trails, too.
Musuem collections have to be seen to be believed. Special celebration days happen throughout the year and tours are by appointment. Great family vacation stop or family reunion site, too.

We loved this place. The staff is very friendly and well educated in local history. There were hands-on experiences for all to enjoy. I would highly recommend this experience. My two year old granddaughter loved it!! I can’t rave enough how much we loved it! Looking forward to returning for another visit.

I went for my Birthday this year. We had alot of fun, only complaint is alot of stuff was closed that had said online was open. also the blacksmith called in sick. The people are fantastic that work here and the petting zoo is really neat. Its worth the trip out to see it.

After driving 30 mins out of our way, we arrived at 2:10. We were told that we were too late to enter even though closing time was posted as 3:00. It is not enjoyable having to explain to a 5 yr old that he can't enjoy the museum and grounds. Very poor business practice. Obviously, we will avoid making the mistake of attempting to visit this place in the future!!

My husband and I brought our 3 kids (ages 11,10 and 8 down here to try some mountain bike trails. We did not anticipate all this park had to offer and will definitely be back. My kids asked for season passes and for this to be our annual vacation spot. The trails are well marked and rated appropriately. The staff is very friendly and helpful and informative. The museums, play areas and shops are very well thought out and put together. I can’t recommend this place enough.

We visited this local gem in July. I was surprised it had amassed so many examples of American history. Some were local to area, but most showed samples of the 19 and 20th century. Our guide was well versed in what the museum offered and made our stay very pleasant.

I have been here twice now and there is so much to see and do that each visit is a new experience. On your first trip don't miss the video which tells of the family history of the farm. Take a guided tour through the museums, pet the animals (don't forget a kiss from Boo the kissing llama) and take a wagon ride. The cafe also serves up a good home cooked meal for an affordable price! Looking forward to coming back again in the future and stay the weekend on the property in one of the cabin rentals.

I love EVERYTHING about Heritage Farm Museum and Village! Just being there is like taking a trip back in time, yet you have all the modern amenities and you are just minutes from I-64 and downtown Huntington! There is something there for everyone and it is a fabulous place to take the entire family! Book a night or two at one of the log cabins or stop by for a tour. You will come away with a greater appreciation for the way our ancestors lived and for the modern conveniences we enjoy today.

I went ther with a friend and we toured the museum and it was very well done. A lot of money was spent preserving all of the antiques and the guides were very informative, the also have a gift shp

This is a neat farm museum with lots of history. On Wednesdays everyone is considered a "kid" and gets in for $5 - a super deal. There is a ton for families with children - lots of hands on activities.

Very quiet place to see an old historical town. A little boring for my taste. And not enough lights for around Christmas. Great live nativity play! The new rope course is great! They had a small snow tubing feature this year for Christmas. A lot of walking. The staff is always extremely helpful and kind. This place is owned by a wonderful Christian family and is good family entertainment!

We took a tour today and were so impressed with this place! Amazing collection of household items, vehicles, toys, musical
Instruments, and much more. Everything is well
maintained. Excellent tour guide! Would definitely recommend this place to all ages but especially to young people to get a sense of the past.

The Heritage Farm Christmas Village is a great holiday experience. Perfect for all ages. Beautiful lights and great history.

Took the 2 grandchildren today to visit the Farm. Mask on and WOW what a great time enjoyed by all. The beautiful huge stair steps into the the trees was amazing and enjoyed by our Grandchildren. Once we climbed up the flights of steps there are walk ways of netting and netting with walking planks. Great addition to this wonderful place. The employees are friendly and eager to answer any questions you may have. New this year was the Nature room filled with aquatic creatures and even an aquarium. The farm has plenty of clean restrooms and have Purell sanitizer dispensers thru out the farm. The farm is truly a Blessing for all of us to enjoy! A BIG Thank you to the Perry family for there dedication to this wonderful place

Very quiet place to see an old historical town. A little boring for my taste. And not enough lights for around Christmas. Great live nativity play! The new rope course is great! Spent a very nice afternoon here during their apple days festival. Had good conversations with several of the docents about West Virginia. Very well maintained artifacts that were very nicely displayed. Baskets and broom area was very interesting.

What a cool place to visit. So many interesting museums with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Easy to find and free parking. Grounds are clean and very well maintained. If you have a few hours, definitely would recommend a visit.

I'm a real museum buff and have visited museums all over the world. My absolute favorite museum is the Smithsonian complex in Washington, DC. Well, little Huntington, WV has the only museum associated with the Smithsonian in the state of West Virginia - and it's Heritage Farm. The museum offers a very unique and comprehensive collection covering the history of the Appalachian region. The guided tours are first rate. It's got a nice little gift shop and cafe. Finally, during the summer and fall months it offers an exciting variety of Way Back Weekends, each with its own distinct theme. Finally, you can even stay in one of the restored homes on the grounds, which include all the modern conveniences, for a very reasonable fee. This museum offers a truly unique experience for the visitor and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves museums, history, or American culture.

If you like old-time town museums, this is a pip. Appalachian buildings and artifacts moved to this location. Intriguing, and has a pet farm for the kids. Friendliest gray cat we've ever met, and even llamas. But remember -- like camels, llamas will spit at you if you're mean. These didn't, by the way.

We didn't get to see the entirety of the venue due to the nature fo the event, but were able to see much of the features and many of the animals. Seems like it would have been a pleasant way to spend a cool afternoon.

Family & I took the grandchildren to Heritage Farm on a Wednesday, Kids Day. Petting zoo in addition to all the exhibits & museums were open. We did not plan to have lunch there but many other school groups did. Also families brought picnic lunches. Once we paid $5 per person, everything was included except snacks. Besides the petting zoo, my granddaughter loved the Doll Museum which she visited 3 times and milking the cow. Even the wagon ride around the farm was free. We visited the church on the farm where one of the children's parents were married. Wonderful day!

A fun, interactive place to step back in time. This place is fun for young kids through adults. Go on good weather days as most of it is outside.

I highly recommend visiting this museum if you are in the area. My boyfriend and I had a tour of this museum and it just so happened to be just the two of us and a guide. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. I was blown away with the amount of antiques they had in their collection that I had never seen before. The guide nicely answered our questions and explained a lot of things for 2 hours.

We found this log cabin village to be a peaceful retreat for the whole family. A great place to unplug and enjoy nature and some much needed quiet time.

We were fortunate to visit the Farm this fall with a group and enjoy a catered dinner as well. The staff and owners were wonderfully accommodating and my group were completely transfixed by the history and stories. For anyone visiting this area, if you miss the Heritage Farm, you miss a true slice of West Virginia life. My group stated out of a 12 day trip, this had been the highlight and wished they had had more time. High praise indeed!

I am a family pass holder and have been for 5+ years. I have been taking my family numerous times each year, and now with added attractions we have been 6 times this past year with the highlight being the Christmas Village. Every time I go into the museums I notice something new and exciting. The staff/volunteers are the best!

The museum is great for children and adults. The displays are very interesting and there are many things that are kid friendly. I especially like the doll display at the museum.

I am a local here in Huntington and I adore Heritage Farm - it is family owned by the Perrys. Mike and Henriella are the founders of the farm and are wonderfully nice and welcoming people. A visit to Heritage Farm is like stepping back in time - everything is very authentic and the antiques and relics displayed are fascinating. I recommend taking a hay ride around the property and just enjoying a leisurely walk around the grounds. Visiting on a beautiful spring day or a crisp, brilliant autumn day is the icing on the cake! My favorite animal on the farm is the beautiful short horned Jersey cow, Moolan - she is so cute and has the best personality!! I recommend arriving around 11 am/noon in order to be able to relax and enjoy everything Heritage offers at a slow pace - their closing time is 3 pm sharp (which is posted) and you will need to arrive with a nice cushion of time in order to take tours/hayrides (obviously they cannot accommodate those showing up 30 - 45 minutes prior to closing time as it would keep employees there well past close.) I work professionally as a wedding photographer and owner of a photo booth company - I can wholeheartedly recommend Heritage Farm to clients seeking a rustic, just all around happy wedding experience! Guests love attending weddings there and the spots for photography are superb!

Just returned from a wonderful field trip with my 4th grade class to the Heritage Farm Museum and Village. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the exhibits. My students were amazed by the one-room school house and how difficult the farming chores were. We will definitely return for future visits! --Mrs. Prince

Hertiage Farm is so much fun and very interesting. My family and I really enjoyed our day at the farm. Our group consisted of my grandparents, mom, teenage brother and my husband.. my dad and sister did not get to come with us but I know they would love it. The cast iron cook off was really cool and we got to sample yummy foods. The staff was helpful and friendly. There is a lot to see and we spent a few hours there. Most of all the artisans were there today and we got to see the tin maker, blacksmith, breadmaker and many others. This was our first time to the farm and we can't wait to come visit again.

We were here preparing for an evening wedding and I enjoyed wandering around the well maintained grounds. The free video in the visitor center was informative! Need to come back for a tour, but the facilities for a small wedding and reception were amazing. One tip - be aware that the café coffee is a K-cup.

This is a place where you can meet animals face-to-face, take a tractor ride through a covered bridge, watch a grist mill in action, and see a blacksmith at work. We so enjoyed all of those things and the wide-ranging collections of antiques and memorabilia collected by the Perry family. We stayed at the Applebutter Inn on site and were so impressed with the cabin-like decor and environment, but modern conveniences. Coffee on the back porch was a special delight!

Nice, relaxing place to see. Guided tour of three buildings packed with things from years gone by. Lots of antiques to look at. Tours of other buildings cost extra. There is a little restaurant here that was very good.

Wonderful recreation of local living near downtown and in a very snug and lovely hilly part of the city.

We loved all the new attractions and expanded activities for all ages! The volunteers and staff were informative, friendly, welcoming and educated us at each stop!

everything was great. stuff was a little expensive but the attractions are one of a kind. my kids loved it. I have never seen an albino peakock and I had no idea that they sounded like that. it was definately a great experience, if you like animals and farm stuff.

My sons Kindergarten class went here and it was absolutely amazing. The staff is very friendly and the attractions are very well kept up. The children all loved seeing how things were done back in the old days and compare it to now a days way of living. My children loved getting the milk the fake cow and pumping the water well, the train ride to the animals and feeding the animals were there favorite. I would love to take them back sometime this summer to see what all takes place as they said there would be all kinds of different activities.

This is a really cool place hidden on the edge of Huntington, toward Wayne County. It's like walking through a portal to the past.

My family and I really liked Heritage Farm Museum and Village. I wasn't a fan about having just cash to spend and feel like this should have been made known before getting there. We had to pay with cash to get in which depleted most of what we had in our wallets. Also there are men that come up to your car window, while you're on the road, to collect the admission. Didn't realize until after we got in I was overcharged b/c my oldest is tall they charged her as an adult. Other than that it was a great day. There was a lot to walk around and see. Enjoyed sampling some homechurned butter and corn meal mash made over a cook stove. The transportation building was my favorite. I can't even remember what the other buildings had but they definitely has a lot to see. My children LOVED the petting farm and the children's activity building. Also we watched a sheep get sheered which was interesting. I don't know if there would be as much to do if you went on a weekend that wasn't having anything themed going on but you'd probably get more talk time to the artisans. We went during the Spring Festival and it was crowded but not overwhelmingly so.

This place is great!! I highly recommend to stop by and visit ! Not only is it beautiful to look at, the education I received was great, too. The people who work there (or volunteer) are so kind. I can't wait to take my 6 year old back.

What a wonderful family friendly place we have in the tri-state area. We took our 12 year old grandson for a fun filled day of activities that we all enjoyed.

Such a quaint, cute farm. They do weddings and school feild trips. They have some historical buildings and artifacts to tour. It's kinda far out from town though but it is neat to visit.

This place was the dream of a local businessman and his wife to show the progress and hardships of early settlers in the area. There are several buildings of antiques and historic memorabilia that they have collected over their lifetime. Check schedule for couple weekends a year when craftsmen are demonstrating their skills in blacksmithing, basketmaking, glass blowing and other lost arts. There are a few furnished cabins available for lodging but reservations are needed. Very nice place to spend a day or two!

This is a wonderful place to spend a few hours or a whole day. There are things for the kids, young adults, and the older ones. Don't miss your opportunity to experience a zip line through the trees, a ropes course up the trail (don't worry, they'll take you up in a fully enclosed UTV) or even pet a pig. The museums have something of interest for everyone and the staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. If you can attend during a crafts weekend, you will be amazed by the artisans and their work. Reservations are needed for some of the activities, check them out on the web and don't miss out on a great way to spend a day.

We had the pleasure of visiting Heritage Farm in mid-August. Josh led us on a one hour guided tour through the Progress and Transportation Museums as well as the General Store. He was very knowledgeable about local history and thoughtfully answered all our questions. He was patient with our kids (ages 4&6) and knew exactly what would peak their interest – model trains!
The kids loved the petting zoo and the children’s play area. The staff was engaging and helpful. It’s a great place to spend a few hours and learn some new things.

Our recent experience at the zip line facility with my daughters was highly enjoyable. The staff we interacted with were exceptionally courteous. We would certainly recommend this activity.

For many years, my coworkers and I have taken our students on a yearly trip to destinations a considerable distance away. This year, we decided to go to Heritage Farm which is very close to school. We were astonished to find that this gold mine was by far the best trip we had ever taken. The students enjoyed all the activities. The staff was extremely organized and knew how to keep students focused. The staff was very informative and interesting. Heritage Farm would also be a great place to visit with your family.

We tried to volunteer but the weather got the better of us. The proprietors are most friendly and welcoming and I know that the stuff is un ique and real antiques! Thanks, guys! Great place!

I was thinking that this was your typical spot. It is not. The people here are very amazing, and there is much to see. It is out of the way but worth the journey.

We took a guided tour and Josh was our guide. The Appalachan culture was so interesting and the artifacts were authentic, not recreations. They had an old time general store filled with staples from a bygone era. They had a transportation building with everything from one horse open sleighs to model Ts. They had a building sequenced by date of what a household would have looked like from the 1800s up to early 1900s. Josh was so well spoken and knowledgable about the artifacts. This was a great place!

At first I thought the tickets were a little pricey but how can you put a price on time when you get the chance to step back into time and see how your grandparents and great grandparents had to live. History has no price. This place is a HAVE TO VISIT. You won't be displeased! The staff is very knowledgeable.

We got married at the church here. No need to decorate anything as the building's woodwork and interior created a very nice visual. Owners were great to work with. They have cabins available for rental, including one with a pool. One of the best kept secrets of Huntington.

The Perry family has done a remarkable job putting together a fun-filled and educational village. It has a petting zoo, wagon rides, general store, play area, picnic tables, and museums. Each museum has its own theme and there is also a children's craft area. Property is very walkable, lots of bathrooms and seating areas.

We love history and read about the Heritage Farm Museum and thought it would make a delightful afternoon. Little did we know HOW WONDERFUL it is and how welcoming the staff is!! Everyone shared their knowledge with us and were interested in little bits of info about our home area in New England. The time flew by and of course we didn't get to see everything!! It is a phenomenal collection of collections, displayed in enticing settings! I'm quite certain that you could visit once a month for several years and maybe just barely get to see and savor everything! Don't hesitate, go visit!!!

There is a lot of fun and information packed into this seemingly small village! Friendly, knowledgeable interpreters were happy to shed light onto what we were seeing. One particularly nice aspect of this attraction is its coverage not only of the area's history and industry, but also the nature of the area--what plants and animals are native to the region. My husband and I went and learned so much as adults, but we also noticed how very kid-friendly the whole set up was. It seems like a wonderful place for families to come.
The two downsides were simply the limited number of hours they are open and the cost. When we went, the park was only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and on those days, from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Considering the amount of things to see and do, it would be helpful if there were more hours to do it! Also, the price of admission felt a bit high ($15 per adult, $10 per child), not for the number of things the park has to offer, but for the limited amount of time visitors have to do it all. There are also plenty of opportunities to spend even more throughout the park--concession stand, activities for an extra fee, and a lovely gift shop / soda fountain.
However, that being said, the Heritage Farm Museum and Village does a wonderful job of telling the well-rounded story of this area of Appalachia, its people, nature, and history. There's something to interest everyone, adults and children alike.

My wife and I took our 5 year old grandson and had a great time everything wasn't open because of season. Go in summer or go on weekend so you can see it all

My family and I had a great time at the Heritage Farm and Museum! The staff was so welcoming, informative, and kind. Lots of different things for all ages to enjoy and we didn’t have to drive far as it’s very close to home. Thank you for such a great experience!

This place is a true gem. They really showcase the life style of Appalachian Americans. They are constantly adding things and attractions and host some really neat events throughout the year. We visit at least a few times a year. They also have lovely cabin rentals and a great chapel and room to rent for weddings

Not very impressed. There for a wedding. Chapel, of course, is a little country church, seats about 50-75 or so. It's just a farm with animals in the barns and the animals were few. The only thing which I thought was nice was the reception room.

We made apple butter as a group! Visited all of the old buildings and found it very rewarding to see what life use to be like.

If you are looking forward to a quiet few days away or want to get together with family for a few days, this is the place. The 14 of us stayed in the Woodbury Inn and had a wondrful time. The home was out of the way, had plenty of room, housed us all easily and was close to the village and museum for an easy visit.
The collection of American antiques and full collections of Americana over the years is one of the most complete I have ever seen and we have traveled world wide.
The children helped feed the farm animals and the petting zoo critters with the son of the two owners and had a wonderful time!! It was a superior three and a half day visit!!
Dave & Karen

This place is an amazing way to spend an afternoon! I came here with my girlfriend and despite being a little more geared towards kids, we had a blast. Between the petting zoo, the museums, and the awesome staff, we had a great time. Entry tickets are not expensive and they're good for an entire day, which is usually open for 5 hours a day. Along with some of the activities, you can purchase tickets for a zip liner, mountain biking, and taking a 4 wheeler through the mountains. Everyone in the family can find something to do here!

The Appalachian Region has lots to offer in terms of culture and history. Heritage Farm captures it all from traditional crafts, antique autos, and agricultural demonstrations. Excellent place for kids to learn and play. Cabins offer quaint overnight accommodation only 5 miles from downtown Huntington.

We went to Heritage Farm and Museum on July 25,2015. It was not busy. Most of the buildings were closed. Very Disappointing

I greatly enjoyed this visit and was very impressed with the way the guide interacted with my 5-year old nephews. The hands-on section and the animals were the best. They also were facinated with the other displays including the trains. I would recommend this for all ages, but especially for children!

I have visited to simple tour the museum and all the many items of my past. But I have been there for a yoga retreat. This is the perfect venue for that. Peaceful quiet atmosphere to walk and reflect. Lovely grounds for contemplation.

The field trip to Heritage Farm was one of the best experiences I have had in my 37 years of education. The docents were very knowledgable, friendly, and accommodating. The 8th graders, who are hard to impress, really enjoyed the trip also. They especially liked the exhibition coal mine and now have a greater appreciation of what it means to go underground. In fact, the entire trip corresponds with WV CSO's and will reinforce what I teach in the classroom. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in or teaches West Virginia history.

My family and I absolutely loved this place. Every guide or worker was extremely friendly and knew so much about the history.

my daughter and i got to the farm at 2pm which is stated as the last tour time on their website. we were told that the last tour was at 1:30 and we missed it but we could watch a video about their mission if we'd like to. we declined and expressed our disappointment because we expected to be able to take the last tour at 2pm. they were fairly unconcerned but did offer us a 1/2 tour. they would have to see if any of the tour guides would be willing to stay to give us the time. it felt like they really did not want to be bothered. the place looked very interesting though. i will never go back there again. the gift shop was the only part of the place we saw and it was very sparse.

The Village has a lot to see and do and the rustic farm setting is perfect.

A group of friends and I did the TalithaKoum adventure. The staff at Heritage Farm were very friendly and went above and beyond to ensure we had a good time. The ropes excursion was challenging and fun. I didn’t think we’d use our full allotted time (2.5 hours) but it flew by. We all agreed we’d like to go back and do it again.

I did not do any of the tours, I only stayed in the cabin. The cabin was great. A little expensive for 2 people, but we had access to the pool. No TVs or internet in the cabins but we were fine with that. Really beautiful cabins.

Our family loves the Heritage Farm Museum and Village in Huntington, West Virginia. We stay there every year while attending our annual family reunion in the area. It is like a step back in time with all of the beautiful surroundings and historic elements. It makes us feel all the more connected to our family roots that started so many generations ago in log cabins such as the ones on their grounds. The rentals are amazing to stay at and each has its own charming characteristics, but with all of the modern conveniences (they think of everything right down to the smallest details!). There is something for everyone... a pool for the kids,,, screened in porch for senior members to visit with each other... quiet nooks for reading and solitude... beautiful surroundings for meandering and exploring... and educational opportunities and demonstrations to learn how this nation was built by our forebearers. We will be back again next year... and the year after that too!!!

Took the family to the Christmas Village display and again WOW! Great lighting and Christmas events in an awesome atmosphere. We are Blessed to have such a wholesome place to take our families all year long. The vision that the Perry family had many years ago has blossomed into a Premier, most see venue. The many adventurer activities added over the past couple of years is a must see! Thank you again Heritage Farm! First class all the way

We showed up in the early afternoon around 1pm. We walked into the gift shop and I let them know we wanted a tour. The lady behind the counter acted as though we were intruders and then said " well i guess i'll see if anyone wants to bother to give you one". This was our day out for the week, and we really wanted to see the place we had read about in the brochure. A few minutes later she came back and said to some other worker...."sign them up, we found someone." This cost us $28.00 and we were on our way. Outside we were brought to the country store, allowed to look at it for about 7 minutes total. Then we were moved to another building for witch most of it was set up with model train stuff none of us had any interest in for about another 10 minutes. And last we were shuffled over to another building for about 12 minutes. Yea, i timed it because at this point i was so angry i could have spit on them. This was all we got to see. there were several other buildings of old-time look, but we were not aloud to look at them. There were no folks dressed in old times clothing, no-one about showing how things were made in olden days. it was a complete disaster of a day. An absolute waste of gas, and the kids were like, nice move mom, we could of had more fun at the mall. Complete and utter dissapointment for the entire family.

The staff members taking care of us on the zip line and driving us to the different locations were friendly, knowledgeable, and functioned as a great team. We had so much fun!

Wow, so many lovingly restored buildings, such well appointed inns, such friendly animals, such great vibes!
Loved my stay. Learned so much I didn't mind missing trip to another farm museum, couldn't possibly learn so much and see so many interesting things (evolution of washing machines, glass blowing, llamas, early electric truck, etc).
Setting is lovely, quiet and serene. Williamsburg without crowds and in country.

We used Heritage Hall at Heritage Farm for our ceremony & reception. Everyone we dealt with along the way was friendly & helpful. They made sure everything was ready for our day!

Fantastic! It's a museum, it's a farm. Plan to spend at a minimum of 3 hours there. It far exceeded my expectations, and we didn't see everything there was to see.

So much fun!!! Awesome zip lines and rope courses!!! The animals are so cute and the staff is sooo nice!!!! Great for families and people with children of all ages!!

All of it was enjoyable. Mountain bike trails, blacksmith, cloth weaver, broom maker, progress building, travel museum and more. All of it reasonably priced and a charitable organization as well. Mountain bike trails are the real deal and require skill. You can rent bikes and ride all day, the rental includes the entry fee. My wife and I had a great time.

Very educational and relaxing little farm. Too bad there are trashy homes on the way out .

Enrolled my two children in a summer camp here. They loved it and couldn't wait to tell me about going in the mine, feeding the animals and doing crafts. They also have a great little restaurant that is open for lunch and is affordable and delicious (the bread pudding is awesome). A little gem hidden right outside the city of Huntington. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The cabins would be a nice place to stay for a little get away.

Visiting West Virginia recently, we checked trip advisor and decided this place was worth checking out. On the way from Nashville, we started looking for hotels in the area and came upon the cabins on the farm.
$250 for one night for just 2 of us is more than we'd typically spend, but we decided to splurge. We're so glad that we did.
Melanie took our reservation...such a sweet and helpful lady. We would arrive after the farm closed, so she took our payment over the phone. The had lights on and instructions for getting in.
The Strawberry Inn is adorable, and has 2 double beds and 1 twin in each of its 2 bedrooms (one bed is child size in one room), and there's a pullout couch in the living room. There are even 3 bathrooms!
The kitchen has all the dishes and pans you'd need..even muffin tin.
There's a beautiful fireplace, cut firewood on the porch, and instructions for using the fireplace in a frame, along with a bag containing gloves and matches.
There were fun old books, and some games, and homey decorations.
The next morning we toured the museum with our guide Cody, a history major who's pride in the area's history is apparent and very helpful. Museum fare is included for each guest...in our case that saved u sc $50.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Neat place to check out if you are in the area! Neat old cars, old buildings, little petting zoo, fabulous guide, everyone is friendly... Great history lesson for kids and adults!

Had my Daughters wedding Reception here.It was great! Tons of photo ops! An unbelievable collection of yesteryear. A must see!

Great people, great activities. Something for all ages! So great to see Appalachian crafts and heritage kept alive for future generations.

We have been to many similar museums in several states. The was excellent. All who talked to us were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they were talking about. The displays were well organized. We were pleasantly surprised to be introduced to items we had never seen before, a lawn mower and a mechanical bug repeller. The printing press was in operation. It worth the 14 hour (2 day) drive to get there.
Stuart

We have taken our granddaughter here twice ( she is 18 mths). She LOVES the petting zoo! The staff and volunteers are very friendly and eager to help any way they can. Honestly, we will go back but I feel the price is a bit expensive for young families with 2 or more children.

Loved every minute I was there. I can't wait to go back for Christmas Village. There is so much to see and I loved seeing things I had never seen before and things that took me down memory lane.

I just loved this place and took hundreds of pictures! Be sure to see the Transportation and Innovation museums and General Store. We had our own private guide who was an encyclopedia full of knowledge. Hardly anyone else was there, but they host school groups frequently and there are several lodges you can rent for overnight stays. There's a petting zoo, local cat greeter, playground, meeting/school rooms, and hundreds of antiques on display. See trains from large model sets to retired engines. Enjoy your day!

If you love history and the feel of down home then you must visit here. Represents the true Appalachia’s heart as well as a taste of GODs country. GREAT people the Perry’s are. Be blessed with safe travels.

Went to a Murder Mystery Dinner at night under the Pavilion outside. It was a peaceful setting. The food was delicious and hot! Desserts were good and cold. The actors were funny and engaging. The heritage Farm staff were kind and helpful!

So many fun things to do for a variety of ages. Everything is contained so kids can’t easily run away

You are taken back in time with all the exhibits they have. It's very clean and peaceful. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There wasn't anything special going on when we went and it still took about one and half hours to see everything. They have beautiful homes to stay in and a swimming pool. They are working on hiking trails. The only thing they don't have is food other than snacks. It is an awesome experience! The fee is very reasonable also.

Must see Christmas Village! What a wonderful holiday experience! The lights, artisans, exhibits, and music is fantastic. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We will return every year!

We just visit the farm and I was impressed by the amazing collection. Multiple museums , interactive activities for kids, great and hospitable personal. We had a great time and will love to go back.

Visited here and was very glad I did. The Perry's have done a lot of collecting of antiques, log cabins and memorabilia over the years and displayed and kept up very nicely. Take a walk in the past. Very interesting.

We stopped to check this place out and i am not sure what is so special here, from what we saw from the road it looked like a farm that needed some work done to it.

Visited this gem but we disappointed not many visitors. The out buildings were period perfect but there weren't many people working the buildings such as the blacksmith or woodworker. Might have been the time of year. Overall, would recommend a visit to this attraction but go earlier than afternoon. Closed at 3 pm.

A visit that turns into a history lesson for the whole family. It is a great place to see what life was like in times gone by. It is also a quaint place to get married and even stay over in the B&B for your honeymoon. Everyone needs to experience this lovely farm for all of the fun activities that take place at even given time.

Wonderful museum!! Well worth seeing.
It is difficult to describe the extent that these people have gone to create such an all encompassing historical display. There were many items that we had never seen even in other museums. We had an exceptional male tour guide.

Each building is full of history and facts.
I love seeing items from the past and this whole place is full of nostalgic items.
There is even a broom maker!
The cafe at the main building has an interesting selection of food, which tastes great and is presented prettily.

I took a visit to Heritage Farm this past week. I am a councelor at the Tyler Mountain YMCA. The children absolutly LOVED it. Lots of musems have the "boring" factor. Heritage Farm was not like that at all. There was always something fun and interesting for the children to do. I am 19 years old, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I told my friends and family about it. Most importantly, the service was AMAZING. The staff was such a blessing :) To all those looking for a great family experience, you should consider Heritage Farm.

Our 13 year old grands did both the zip line and the ropes course. Both were much enjoyed. There was even a 75 year old energetic lady zipping with them. The staff were all very friendly, yet totally professional. Safety was paramount on both of the adventures. Observers were welcomed and a shaded sitting area with tables, chairs, and umbrellas was provided. The ropes course seems fun for both the young folks AND their parents - plenty of challenge! We didn’t sample the other offerings Heritage Farms has, as the temps were high. However, I think the animals and tradespeople engaged in their work, would be fun for the elementary school population.

Great place for a field trip. Kids enjoyed it. It is unique, pretty, and very clean. It was obvious the people working there really enjoy what they are doing. They did a great job explaining to the kids our heritage.

The Mike Perry family have made this an outstanding place to see many things from the last 100+ years - there is so much variety. The cottages are lovely if available and the main hall is a great place to hold activities. The Perry family has made this come alive.

Heritage Farm is a local wonder for Huntington. It's a versatile experience that is suitable for ALL ages. The full experience wouldn't be complete without some of their bike trails, and ziplining, but the entire place is so immersive and wonderful.
Every building takes you through the world from a new perspective! You could spend days wandering around, learning everything there is to learn in the museums. There is so much worth learning within this community about the history of West Virginia.
During our self-guided tour, we had the pleasure of experiencing some fantastic musical talent in the church, informative conversation with guides, and up-close and personal experiences with live animals.
With a playground and entire building dedicated to young minds, it's a great place to bring your kids or plan a field trip!
As for food within the farm, they have a versatile list of options. You truly can't go wrong with any of it!
For me, the parking situation is always a concern. Parking at Heritage Farm is so easy! There's plenty of space, even on a busy summer day.

We went to the Christmas lights at Heritage Farm. The lights were fantastic but navigating my electric wheelchair was difficult over the stones and the mud. Most but not all exhibits were accessible. All that I saw were tastefully done and educational. The staff was super friendly and helpful. This is a must see in Huntington but be patient as navigating the grounds is challenging. .

Put together by a local family..the Musem captures essence of Appalachia...working weekend are the ultimate visit!

I’m a local and went to do the bike trails. I was greeted right away and told where to check in which was easy to do. The bike staff is super friendly. The turnaround time to get back on top of hill was quick. Trails are beginner and intermediate friendly. Don’t be afraid to go slow and use your brakes. I had a blast, best $20 I’ve spent in awhile.

I had wanted to go ever since I first heard the farm existed and finally made it for the storytelling by Bil Lepp. It is a recreation of an old town complete with working shopkeepers. We visited and got to watch a pattern being designed for a wall pocket by the tinsmith and a potter at his wheel. Awesome West Virginia handcrafts to purchase from the shopkeepers and the gift shop. There are a couple of places to eat where you can enjoy an authentic West Virginia meal. But the storytelling was the highlight of the day. I've definitely become a Bil Lepp fan. Thanks to Heritage Farm for the introduction!

This is a fantastic place to take your family. It is truly a trip back in time. Very educational. You can even get a kiss from a llama.

I really hate to knock a place because I know how much it takes to keep something going, however, this place fell short of the reviews that I read. The day we went the blacksmith was there and a person weaving baskets. I would say the baskets are of very good quality. However, the place was self guided and I really did not learn much. My wife and I talked about how several of the items we ourselves used as kids...so I guess we are becoming antiques. I see that this place would be great for kids and on days when all sites are open I could see it may be more interesting, however, this fell short of our expectations especially after seeing the You Tube video about the place and they no longer offer guided tours.

I have visited Heritage Farm Museum and Village before, but each time new things are added that just make the visit more enjoyable. Prior to our tour, my friend and I ate lunch at the new café. Each day there is something different offered. We opted for the sandwich although there was a hot chicken breast on the menu. The $6 price includes the main offering, a couple sides, dessert ( I had the carrot cake--delicious!!) and a drink. Sitting on the porch while we ate lunch was a very relaxing and serene place to view the village. After lunch we did the tour of several buildings with our very informative guide. A couple artisans were working and we spent time talking with them about their crafts and watched a weaver work on her loom. I hope that if you happen to be in Huntington, WV for any reason, make an effort to visit this wonderful venue that has been lovingly put together by a family who is preserving the American Heritage not only for the present generation, but for generations to come. Thank you, Perry family and all the wonderful volunteers that help make the tours possible.

You have to visit just once. It takes you back in time to a place in history. The owners are personal friends and take great pride in the place they call home. Each building is a different place in time and there are people there to guide you through. There are places to eat, sleep, and have weddings and anniversaries. You have to go just once and you will go again.

There are around 20 buildings, all dealing with different aspects of Appalachian history.
It is a remarkable collection of memorabilia. But it also offers interactive activities for people of all ages. Kids will enjoy the petting zoo and the activities building. There are many local foods, rides and sights to delight everyone.

We were staying here and as part of that we got a tour. We learned quite a lot about the way of life as was and they have many antiques ad unusual items to look at in fact a very good collection indeed.
Note that not all things are always open, it didn't matter to us but the doll museum for example was closed and it would be naff if that is what you wanted to see.
There is a petting zoo if you have children but if not the museums and the guide are very good.

Heritage Farm is an amazing way to spend an afternoon and a must see attraction if you’re heading through the area.

I’m a bus driver who transported children here for a few hours of fun. There were many folks of all ages and everyone looks to be having a swell time. Myself? I’m enjoying their comfortable rocking chairs and soon will check out their cafe. I’ve heard great things about their down-home food!

The location was perfect, lots of room to park and the reception hall was well maintained. Loved being able to walk around and sit in the rocking chairs.

We LOVE this place. You could easily spend all day here, with or without young children. Young children might revisit the petting zoo and play area. Adults will enjoy reading everything in the museums. All the staff here are so incredibly friendly, right from when you enter to when you exit. My one and only complaint is that when you sit in the front ‘carriage’ of the tractor ‘train’, you breath in and smell all the fumes from the exhaust...not great with a toddler on your lap.
Will definitely be returning to the Heritage Farm and look forward to bringing our family too.

We were there for a wedding so we had time to wander around. Very nice and knowledgeable people and very interesting
Well worth the visit

Our family had such a great time. Between all of the different "museums" and activities for kids to learn and have fun, we actually ran out of time and couldn't even do everything. My two boys loved the ropes courts, and even loved the transportation museum and being able to get on a train caboose. They loved the animals and the treehouse trek. If we lived closer, we 100% would visit again. Even the food was reasonably priced. I would totally recommend this place to anyone - young and old. I think any person that were to visit would have a great day. Definitely plan to be there the entire time they are open, especially if you are doing one of the adventures.

Wonderful place to visit! We always have a great time at Heritage Farm. The different museums and activities are excellent! The workers are extremely nice and knowledgeable about the farm. Going to the farm is like stepping back in time to a simpler and more fulfilling way of life. We are Blessed to have such a wonderful place we can take our families. Thanks to everyone that makes Heritage farms such a Jewel for our families!

I cannot say enough great things about this place! You must check it out! Not only is it a blast to the past, but Heritage is also chalked full of adventure. Great for all ages! Paul and his adventure team are the best - they are fun, professional and really know how to show everyone the greatest time! My son and I went zip lining and it was our first time. They went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable, very knowledgeable and the entire zip line adventure was so awesome! We will be back for sure!

WARNING: Do not follow your GPS. We did and the GPS showed us to a point that was not Heritage Farm Museum and Village. I called and was instructed to keep going forward and eventually we got to the right place. We learned there is another way that is easier instead of following the GPS and going on a windy road up the mountain and then down the mountain..
Once we got to Heritage I sighed with relief. Unfortunately we arrived later than we should have. Give yourself lots of time to look around. We ended up rushing to see things like the Artisan Center and never got to the store.
There were only three buildings open for the tour ... Transportation Museum, Museum of Progress and the Dolls & Carriages Museum. The people conducting the tours were excellent. They spoke with knowledge and enthusiasm on the subjects.
We never got to see the movie that explained how this attraction came to be. I got the gist that the museum and village were constructed to house the antique collection of Mike Perry and his wife Henrietta. The way these antiques are layed out in the buildings are so wonderful. The building that houses the dolls and the doll carriages are so fantastic. The dolls have their rooms and scenarios all coordinated attractively. The antiques these people collected are awesome. The museums are so well done.
Visit the artisan building. Interesting stuff there too. I wish I asked the name of the artisan who does the wire work. My gosh, he told us the story of how he used to sit in his doctor's waiting room and would pass the time away by shaping wire into forms. Then when he got called into the doctor's office, he would present his wire work to the doctor. The doctor kept it all ... it's on display in a glass case. More awesome is the wire bible scenes he made. This man is inspired, inspirational and he has a God-given talent. I did buy jewelry from him ... not that I wear a lot of jewelry but because I wanted to show my friends the pictures I took of this man's work and then show them that he does jewelry too.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Heritage Farm and Museum is one of my favorite places to chill! I love everything about this place, the history, the animals, the family who runs it. If you want a step back in time treat, this is the place for you. If you go on one of their way back weekends it will be a history lesson that will be fun for the whole family. FUN FUN FUN, oh and did I mention FUN!! Family reunions, no better place in my opinion, school reunions, weddings you name it you can have plenty to do and make memories too! CHECK IT OUT!!!

Very impressed with the Christmas village. Highly recommend for all ages! All the staff was very courteous.

We were passing through Huntington and decided to stop in and visit the village. I wish we could have had more time to see everything. The demonstrations were interesting and the people presenting them were so nice. From the broom makers to the blacksmith to the basket weaver, there was a lot to see. Unfortunately we were limited on the time we could spend here.

Heritage farms is an amazing family experience. So much too do, can't do it all in one day. Some reasonable food choices but you can bring your own lunch. Lots to do and see. Petting zoo, history, hands on activities for young ones. Great Day!!

Cody was my tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable. He was able to answer every question thrown at him. This is a great place to go with kids and adults. They have a cute restaurant as well.

Heritage Farm Museum and Village is a great place to bring the kids or to stay the night. We were just there for their spring festival. We have a 2 and 1/2 year old and she had a blast! Among all of the artifacts which are housed in numerous buildings, they also had many vendors who were demonstrating many different talents. I believe that Heritage Farm has many different festivals year-round. Just check them out on Facebook or their website!

This is such a beautiful place and so much to do. It’s a great combination of helping the kids get a view of Appalachia the past while being able to still enjoy some adventurous time with the whole family.

Went on kids day it was great! Very well organized and clean . Petting zoo very nice and had extremely knowledgeable staff. Excellent activities for little ones, tractor ride awesome & fun, wished we lived here would go all the time

We had a wonderful time! We stayed two nights with another couple. The first day we spent our time touring many of the museums. We had wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable people guiding and educating us. We saw and learned about various species of animals. We also got to experience a little bit of history! Staying on the grounds was fun, too, as we could go for walks and check in on our animal friends. We enjoyed other things that Huntington had to offer, such as the Art Museum and Conservatory, the Ritter Park Rose Garden, the memorial fountain at Marshall University, and shops and restaurants in Pullman Square.

Christmas is Always a fun time with family. We’ve been attending for several years now. Loved this years addition of the tubing hill.

My young son enjoyed this museum! It's hands on for young kids, mostly preschoolers but younger can certainly play in the general store with fake fruit, and ride on tractors. There's stuffed farm animals and a library section. One half is the hands on for kids, and the other is for educational look only displays. $5 per adult, kids free under 2.

The employees are so patient with explaining everything and never tire of answering questions!

We take back roads whenever we travel and visit unusual places when we find them. We found a brosure for this at a rest stop and gave it a try since we love history.
JACKPOT!!!!! Log buildings , Craft shops Blacksmith, Potter, wonderful exhibits, great staff that will lead you through the exhibits and won't break the bank.
You will not be disappointed !!!!
We would definitely recommend !!!

The Perry's have done an extraordinary job of collecting and displaying items and buildings of what life was like in the past. They have several museums and buildings that can be toured. They offer several days a month of demonstrations for the public and also cater to schools and other groups for field trips. If you are looking for a place to get married, they also have a wonderful wedding chapel that is available.
This place is a must see for anyone traveling into the area as it not just captures Appalachian life, but American life through the years as well. This is also the place that American Pickers has been to!

I've been to Heritage Farm before, but this trip was as a teacher of fifth graders. My students loved every part of the trip from the blacksmith to the old one room school house. We stayed busy all day and were never disappointed. To keep the attention of fifth graders is an awesome task which Heritage Farm did with flying colors.

A history buff could spend an entire day here. Our tour guide, Mr. Sims was excellent with lots of stories about the exhibits. He was one of the best guides we have ever had. Te village of museums is off the beaten path but you will find it. The logs in the buildings large preserved from cabins torn down in WV and ltwoother states. There are also local artisans there each day. It was fun to watch the blacksmith as he worked and explained his process.

Took our 6, 4, and 1 year old girls to the farm on Wednesday and we enjoyed every minute! Love learning about Appalachia people of the past! Plenty to do for kids. Wagon rides, playgrounds, general store, crafts, face painting and more! At $5 admission, we will return for sure!

We had an amazing time here!! I knew this was going to be right up my alley but doubted my kids (15, 15, 11 & 10) would enjoy it. They ended up having a great time and we all learned a lot! The staff were so friendly and informative. I hope to return again someday. I definitely recommend visiting to anyone who is interested in American history!

I love both history and animals so this was a great spot for me. We had a great tour with a knowledgeable guide. There are lots of buildings to see and a variety of topics from a general store to transportation. They have a farm area and also a petting zoo which I loved. There were lots of well loved animals including a goose you can pet and a huge tortoise. The staff were helpful and did warn us about the problem with the gps coordinates. The road into the museum is narrow with no shoulders so drive carefully.

This museum is a collection of original, rebuilt cabins, barns, chapels and other structures filled with vintage technology well-organized technology and art that gives a great overview of the progression of local history. Spend a day!

I have been a family pass holder for several years and I try to visit several times each year. There is no way to see everything in the museum and I always make a new discovery! I also love the craftsman like the blacksmith and the wonderful lady at the spinning wheel. This trip I went zip lining with my 63yr old sister (I am 66 ) and her 2 teenage grandkids! Awesome!

This was my first visit to Heritage Farms and I will definitely take my Grandkids again. It was fun to show my Granddaughter things that my Grandmother used and share memories with her.

My husband and I looked for a side trip on our way home from Virginia to Kentucky and saw this attraction on TripAdvisor. We spent three hours there, enjoying a guided tour by Cody as well as time to ourselves to experience examples of life in years past. The collections are well organized and there is so much to see without being overwhelmed. We enjoyed talking to the blacksmith and his wife, who obviously love sharing their time and talent with guests. What a hidden gem!

This family-run property clearly takes pride in their business. They made our family feel very welcomed. The weather was a bit too chilly to enjoy the entire premises but our teen guide kept even our 2nd grader interested. The petting zoo was the most hands-on we'd ever been with farm animals, esp their trained duck ! I think if you just were to do self-guided you'd breeze by the exhibits. But our guide spent time pointing out interesting tidbits we would have otherwise overlooked. What a gem!

We visited Heritage Farms on their special student days. Even with 6 groups everything was very organized and well run. We moved smoothly from one location to another with time for an informative presentation at each one. Having the blacksmith and pioneer men there was an added bonus.
We have visited several times and there is such a wealth of real life examples of times past that it is hard to take it all in. This trip definitely adds to the understanding of our state's early history for my students. I always leave wanting to come back on my own and spend a day.

This place is great for both adults and kids. There are several small but very good museums on site. Our favorite was the Museum of Industry which had a wonderful docent that was great at explaining so many different things in the museum (she said she is s former history teacher). She was not only a fountain of information, but was so lively and enthusiastic in her explanations. There are craftsman on site displaying and explaining the crafts they are doing (we spent time with the weaver and the basket maker). There are buildings set up to look like they would have in the 1800 and 1900’s and they are filled with many items from the time period. We spent time talking with the people in the blacksmith shop (they were demonstrating their skills), the general store and the church. All of the people who work at the Heritage Farm Museum are very friendly, knowledgeable and excited to share what they know with visitors. This is a great place to spend several hours.

Visited with a 5th grade class. The Characters were authentic with excellent and informative content. I highly recommend!

I really enjoyed our visit here. There are so many interesting buildings filled with fantastic things collected over the last 35 years and showcasing life as it was throughout past ages. Friendly guides will show you around and tell you about what you are seeing. You can also wander around on your own and enjoy the picturesque setting and beautiful buildings. It is well worth seeing whether you have kids or grandkids or even just to come by yourself.

I am so thankful for Heritage Farm…to be able to see days gone by and all the work and the years that went in to preserving our heritage!!
Good job
We were looking for a place to go with two small children, and came across this unique fun place in the mountains. The people that are working here are very knowledgeable and demonstrate the old ways of living. Great place to go and disconnect with the family for a few hours.
