We took a 2 day trip up rt 100. We did so on weekdays to avoid weekend traffic. The color was extraordinary. We stayed at The Colonial House in Weston VT which made for a delightful excursion.

We took Route 100 from Westin, where we visited the Vermont Country Store up to Stowe. The ride was great, midweek so the traffic was light and the sky was overcast so it was too bright. Lots of picturesque Vermont scenery, small towns and shops as well a nice waterfall in Glanville. Spent a few nights in Stowe and then returned the same way. We plan on doing it again at foliage time

This was our second season to drive Highway 100. And once again it was a very beautiful to see all the colors and the animals. Everyone should drive this route at least once in their lifetime during The Fall season and hopefully you're lucky enough that it's during the peak of the colors so you can enjoy it as much as we did.

I didn’t see any reviews on this on TA before we left but it is listed in the National Geographic book, The Guide to Scenic Highways and Byways: The 275 Best Drives in the U.S. Well, that is all I had to tell my husband and it was ‘the chosen route’ for our one week trip to Vermont in August. We began at the south end of 200-mile-long VT 100 in Wilmington, VT. Our first stop was in Weston where the Vermont Country Store is located (see review on same) where nearly everyone stops at least once. The road was in great condition and we had minimal traffic. There are numerous side roads leading to various ski resorts. Part of the ride goes through the Green Mountain National Forest; a 350,000 acres preserve. Our first night took us to Mendon, a little town near Killington, VT. We spent a couple days here, backtracking to Manchester, off 100. We continued on toward our next stop, Stowe, VT. On the way are more ski areas, beautiful mountains, and (drum roll, please) Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory. (There is a fee for the factory tour.) Shortly after Ben and Jerry’s is the Cold Hollow Cider Mill (see review on same) which we thought was much tastier and original than B & J’s. Stowe was delightful, but tiny! We spent a couple days here motoring the side roads, enjoying the many restaurants and shops, and the 60th annual Antique Car show! Continuing north, our next stop was the Jay Peak area, just south of the Canadian border.
Having lived in Florida for the last 45 years, both my husband and I have missed the mountains, the green forests, the country roads. This was a great ride…slower than Interstates, more interesting scenery, and quaint villages and towns. We would do it all over again!

Wonderful scenery and some great little villages.. Be sure to stop in Waitsfield super shops, lovely water area and covered bridge. Don't miss Weston incredible general stores packed with amazing and different merchandise. Good road and minimal traffic so easy to stop and view scenery.

We drove the entire VT-100 from the Smugglers Notch area (do not miss this area!) down to Wilmington, VT on October 6th. The fall foliage was perfect!
We downloaded the Gypsy Guide Vermont App for around $5.00 and it made the drive so enjoyable. it was a GPS audio tour of the entire route & it would tell you points of interest, facts about VT and even some side trips. I would highly recommend it for your drive.

We drove Rt 100 from Warren VT to White River Junction. Beautiful scenery if you are not in a hurry. The view of the mountains are absolutely breathtaking at sunset.

As part of our road trip through Vermont we took the Highway 100 from just out of Burlington. The scenery and small towns along the way were fantastic. A few short deviations off the route to visit the covered Bridges was worth the effort.
We were about 2 weeks to early for the leaf turn stage but got a few good areas of colour change in the trees (Mid Sept).
Well worth the drive.

We took this route driving from Stowe in Vermont to Springfield (south Enfield) Connecticut, as part of a tour of New England in the "fall". It is a beautiful and tranquil drive with pretty towns and numerous rivers which run alongside the road. Towns chock full of history like Weston litter the route and afford opportunities to break up the drive and provide photo opportunities. The scenery is really amazing and we stopped for lunch in Ludlow. We had chosen this town specifically because earlier this year we had visited Ludlow, Shropshire, in the UK. Not surprisingly, there is no comparison but next time we visit Ludlow in Shropshire with its beautiful medieval castle, we will think of its North American namesake.

Did this for fall foliage tour. Leaves were a little past peak, but I still enjoy being able to stop in the little towns to snack & shop. Favorite spots north to south were Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Calvin Coolidge Historic Site & Green Mountain Sugar House. Definitely worth doing regardless of the season.

We took this route from Killington to Waterbury, and I must say that it may be wonderful in the fall for two weeks. But, any other time it is just a boring country road.

While in Vermont we took several drives on Route 100. Beautiful, scenic drive. We were there close to peak color season. Little traffic, giving us more time to enjoy the drive and scenery. We were in Vermont for a week. We could definitely tell the change in color from the beginning to the end of the week. Hilly, curvy scenic road. I can now see why it is rated so high for a scenic drive. Enjoyed Texas Falls and Warren Falls both not directly on Route 100 and enjoyed Moss Glen Falls/Granville directly on 100. Waterfalls were so soothing.

Download GyPSy Guide to your cell phone for Vermont RT 100 Tour. A fantastic audio guided tour as you travel.

Traveled from Stowe to Woodstock VT on the 100 instead of the interstate. We went to miss the traffic and enjoy leaf peeping. A perfect drive with the top down!

We rode from Wilmington to Hancock on this very quiet, twisty, hilly road that is in great condition. Most roads in this area are very motorcycle friendly, and definitely worth checking out.

We just got back from a day trip on route 100 in Vermont. We visited Waterbury and Stowe and then we proceeded to the Mad River Valley, visiting Waitsfield. We stopped at Cold Hollow farm for apple cider donuts, apples and apple cider. Everything was delicious. The foliage was at peak color and the day was sunny and beautiful. Traveling up from Route 89, two adorable black bear cubs crossed the road in front of us. It was a magical day!

Based on several scenic byways web sites, wife and I selected the Vermont 100 highway as a drive in a South to North direction. This was before the tree leaf changing time frame. This highway needs to be completely torn up and completely repaved! It is one of the WORST maintained highways I have ever driven in the USA. None of the web sites I viewed gave any indication of just how terrible the driving conditions were on this highway. I imagine that the views of the changing leaf season would be spectacular, but I would not like to be driving on this highway with lots of other vehicles. Others may think that this is a highway worth driving, but not me.

We drove from Londonderry to Stowe on Rt. 100 in August based on numerous articles describing it as a must-do scenic drive. I have to disagree. It is probably spectacular in fall, but as a scenic drive at any other time of year, it's nothing special. It might be more impressive for folks who live in urban areas or very flat areas, but if you're used to rural roads and mountains, then don't go out of your way to drive it. I would, however, rather take Rt. 100 (or any country road) than an interstate any time, so you might want to use it as a pleasant way to get from point a to point b.

We flew in to New York, drove to Boston for a couple days then up the coast to Maine, all the whole fearing that we were a bit too early for Autumn colors ... but at some point in our drive from Kennebunkport Maine to Woodstock Vermont, things changed drastically, and Fall came alive!! It was breathtaking!! We stayed in Woodstock and the next day we drove up to Stowe/Waterbury to start our Route 100 adventure. It was one of the most beautiful road trips I've ever been on, and I live near some famous Fall drives myself! I love the slower pace (and the scarcity of modern sights like WalMart in every town!) - I could be happy to live in Vermont!! Loved our time there, wish it could have been much much longer!!

We just completed the scenic Route 100 in Vermont using the Gypsy tour application from iTunes and it was FANTASTIC! What a great idea… for $8 you get a narrated tour of your drive down the scenic byway. There are plenty of tips on where to stop, and the interesting “back stories” on the small towns along the journey. It was great trip! Look for our additional TripAdvisor reviews for all of our stops along Route 100!

Beautiful scenery and plenty of places to park and take pictures. Allow plenty of time to stop and enjoy nature at its best.
Beautiful Drive
Beautiful drive with wonderful scenery along the way. Overlook areas to stop along the way with breathtaking views.
