Austin TX is a fun city with lots of dining and entertainment options. The most rewarding (for me at least) is Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis. I visited in June of 2018 and the experience was terrific all around. Where else can you combine tanning, rock climbing, hiking and swimming - all while nude? The weather was gorgeous and the people were friendly and chill. More than once the unmistakable smell of burning weed wafted through the air.
Hippie Hollow is not a beach. There is no sand. It is more like a quarry with rocky formations that need to be navigated to get to the water. But the rocks are often flat and level so the sunning areas are more than adequate. I do recommend bringing water shoes and a thick yoga mat, in addition to towels. Pack a cooler with your lunch and your favorite beverage (alcohol is allowed) and you're all set. Don't forget the sunscreen!
I have heard stories of creepers there to see the sights. I did not observe this personally. I was comfortably nude for two separate visits and I enjoyed every second. The firm ground is suitable for yoga too, something I did on both visits. It's the bast way to get an all-around tan without flipping like a hamburger on a grill.

First and foremost; this is not a Nude Resort - it is a county park where nudity is allowed. There are rules for acceptable behavior but unfortunately enforcement rests upon complaints (after the fact) and not deterrence. There are no Life Guards - sometimes the only park employees you will encounter are at the entry where they collect $8 per person for entry, cash only. If you are a Nudist who is accustomed to the structure of a Nude Resort, you will definitely notice the difference.
Unlike a Nude Resort, expect fully clothed Men to be in the park, lurking and observing. Personal space is at times not respected by nude Men who cruise the shoreline - often walking in close proximity or even stepping over people - the lake is very low exposing a large, very rocky shoreline - plenty of room to respect others, no excuse for such behavior.
The park is nice for nude sunbathing and swimming - the lake cools and warms with the seasons. Be prepared to hike down through rocks to reach the lake. The park facilities are acceptable - a nice paved path through the park with various trails down to the lake.
We live in close proximity - on occasions we've chosen to go to Barton Springs or Deep Eddy instead of HH - although not nude, topless sunbathing is allowed at Barton and Deep Eddy. Additionally, Life Guards and others in position of authority do not tolerate unacceptable behavior - the rules are enforced to protect the pools.

this is the nude beach in Austin, which is awesome if you don't mind the pervs who are lurking behinds trees whacking off. It's wonderful to swim there, very clean. There are kinda sections, couples, older groups, and the gays all the way down to the end. When lake is low, be very careful of the rocks getting down to the water.

You won't understand if you aren't a naturist, but this venue is quiet and lovely. It's the type of place that just makes you want to be nude.

I guess if your a nudist it might be fun. I'm not so can't see what the deal is
with people wanting to sit on the exposed rocks and climb over the rock
naked. It was probably more 75% with the bathing suits on and most
saw there without should have keep them on. No not all the hotties running
around clothesless LOL. And this was a splash weekend too. Buts its
a walk through at least once deal.

If you like seeing naked guys hanging out on cliffs together, then go here in the summer and you'll get your fill. If you go in the winter, you might get to enjoy the park without some guy having too much fun with himself while he walks past you on the trail. I'm just sayin'.

We went on a Monday morning. It was very peaceful and quiet. Unfortunately, we got rained out but we enjoyed the hour or so we had. The water was clear and warm enough for swimming. The only trouble was finding a spot without some single old guy watching us. Wish there was something that could be done about that.

I was really surprised by the diversity on this "beach". Every race and age group were present (over 18), as were some really attractive people of both genders. The rocks truly are treacherous and difficult to walk on, and I would describe the descent to the water line as a climb down. There are several places where you have to set down your cooler, hop down, and then pull your cooler down after you.
After about a half hour, you kind of forget that everyone is naked. We saw one couple getting arrested, but we couldn't figure out what they had done. No one nearby had noticed, either. The park is officially sanctioned by the state, so no worries about getting in trouble for basic nudity. Just keep your hands to yourself, don't start kissing on anybody, and don't bring bottles.

While staying in Austin area for 3 day, we drove here on a Sunday Afternoon. A little cool (69 degrees) and cloudy, but we did lay out for an hour. Not very busy; a few people here and there. Glad we brough our towels and some drinks and snacks. Only thing making our visit better would be to visit a month or two earlier when it's warmer.

The only public legal nudism/naturism area (shame on Austin for not opening up more areas to responsible naturism -- Zilker Park would make a nice Englischer Garten like in Munich). Lake Travis itself is very, very low, but this park has clean bathrooms (only needs showers) and nice park rangers.

Beautiful nude “beach”. It was a great experience and I was comfortable being in the buff after I realized there wasn’t any creepers out. I think that would honestly vary by the day. It’s different compared to the other parks along lake Travis.
When we went there was 50/50 women (mainly topless) and men naked
Tips:
Bring water shoes or hiking sandals as it’s deep to get down to near the water.
Bring chairs or yoga mat to sit on as it’s rocky
Bring snacks and flotation devices
Enjoy the nudity

It is a great place to go to at least once, because you will come back again and again.
Friendly people and relaxed environment.
ALWAYS WEAR WATER SHOES.
BE VERY CAREFUL GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE WATER, IT IS SLIPPERY.
WATCH FOR THE ZEBRA MUSSELS.

I try and go every time I visit Austin. Great place to swim & sunbath. Park is very clean and a few of the locals I've met are great. Water access is tricky steep paths with rocks. There are the typical guys that come to stair at the ladies, who are few and far between. In joy and if you do visit i'de go nude. If not you'll stick out like a sore thumb

If you're a nudist, like to go topless or haven't tried either but would like to this is your place. Hippie Hollow is a park run and managed by Travis County who does a wonderful job. The rangers are friendly (not nude) and the park is well kept. The park is gay friendly but certainly not gay exclusive. Obviously, it's nude friendly but again not nude exclusive but is limited to visitors over 18. You can make it down to the rocky shore and eventually to the water. This is one of the deepest parts of Lake Travis and there is no sandy beach but grab yourself a rock ledge and tan baby tan. Most weekends bring scores of boaters that tie up near the shoreline to also enjoy the nude and sometimes raucous aspects of this area. It's rumored to be a swinger hangout but generally fun is to had by all.

I was a little nervous about heading to Hippie Hollow. It turned out to be a fun day. What I liked best about the day was that it wasn't very busy so you could really just hang out with who you came with. We were mostly alone other than a couple people who walked by. I didn't find it creepy or weird. You really can get yourself secluded from everyone else. We got there, disrobed, and simply hung out in the sun. It was a bit cold that day so we didn't swim. It is very rocky and not very comfortable. We did manage to find a good spot to lay out though. It was a good day.

Nice warm water. Water is clear enough to view the fish and turtles. People are friendly, you can go off on your own or join a conversation. Suit or no suit it is up to you. All ages from 18 and up. Sadly, there is no real flat place to lay out and relax also the lake bottom is very rocky. It is also a little rocky getting to the water, but if this is your thing it is worth it

The hike down is rocky, be sure to wear good walking shoes or water shoes. Glass containers are not allowed but it is obvious some people do what they want so watch out for the broken glass. Otherwise it is mostly clean. It is nice that you don't have to get dressed to use the restrooms. Clothing is only required in the parking lot.
It was our first time here so we thought there might be a sandy area to lay out....wrong, be sure to bring a thick picnic blanket or chair with you. It is VERY ROCKY. We had just a thin sheet and beach towels, wished we had something a little thicker to lay on. Water was pretty cool but is was a very warm day and it felt great. Cost is now $12 per vehicle for those without season pass.
We didn't see anyone acting inappropriately. There were boaters that like to ride by for a look and some of them had inappropriate remarks, but otherwise a good day.

This is a nude "beach" on Lake Travis. Only adults, 18+ are allowed. You pay for parking at the top of the ridge, and you walk down a path to the near the lakefront. The shoreline is all rocks. Getting down to the shoreline does require some agility. If you are not active or mobile, you will have difficulties moving down the "beach" as the cliff has large rocks which you will need to be able to both descend and climb. The waterfront is all broken rocks, not weather worn smooth.
We went on a weekday, and few people were there, and mostly spread out. You can have your privacy. This is not the place to get your kicks people watching. People come for the relaxation of nude sunbathing or skinny dipping.

Mostly males oogling and staring trying to get a peek. I've been to nude beaches and parks and never felt this uncomfortable.

Yes, it is a nude beach in Texas. Keep in mind, all of those comments here about it being a "sausage fest", were from dude's who came to the park without women and promptly complained that there were not enough women. I get the feeling they were hoping for a free, brightly lit version of a strip club-- and wanted to bring back more than rocks from the beach. This is not that place. For the record, I am a dude and I brought my own eye candy (she is hot-- even when not in the Texas summer sun).
I went for my first time this past weekend (on Saturday and then came back on Sunday because I had such a good time.) I am not a swinger and am not interested in being with anyone other than my beautiful GF. I checked out the scenery and there were plenty of couples in the "main" section of the park-- just down from the entry. The one creepy dude (probably one of the ones complaining about the park being a sausage fest) was greatly outnumbered by "normal" nudist-- you know, the ones that can carry on a normal conversation sans clothes.
Yes, there were people of all sizes (and lengths). If you want to gawk at models, surf the web or hit the strip club. If you want to hang out and relax, it is a nice place to go. just bring something soft to sit on. It you don't want it to be a sausage fest, bring your own women.

I was amazed at how many people were there & how good the scenery was. I can not wait to go back for a holiday weekend!

i only go about once a year. early spring while the water is still cool. it is a nude beach. mostly men but there are still a few women. if you like to skinny dip. this is the place to do it. it is really very relaxing to swim in the nude. not a lot of stares so nothing to really worry about. i think it costs about $5 dollars per car to get in. i first went to hippie hollow during 1974 spring break before it was an official park. lots of hippies and nude bodies as far as the eye could see. my first trip to austin and a lifetime of enjoying the outdoors. i also highly recommend barton springs inside austin. not nude but the water is cold and clear. also great in the early spring when the college women and their bikinis are in full view.

Overall we 3 women had a fun time. Bring towels because there is no sand, only rock! There were way more men than women, and it seemed that the foot traffic near us specifically was high, but luckily we aren't shy so it didn't really bother us.

No summer trip to Austin is complete without going to Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis. The only clothing optional park in the state, it also has crystal clear waters and stunning sunsets which are best viewed from the Oasis Cantina, high atop the ridge overlooking Hippie Hollow.

This spot could be so much more attractive and inviting; chairs, umbrellas, cleanup. It has lots of potential but it falls flat. You can be naked or not. Just mind your own business. Friendly people, kind of rough getting down to the water, wear water shoes! Some photo opps. of turtles and fish. Water temperature was nice. Relaxing but again, it could be so much better!

Hippie Hollow has been talked about for more than fifty years, yet a great many people have failed to investigate its delights. This may be because it is essentially the ONLY NUDIST Beach in Texas. Yes, here beneath the glare of the Texas sun, you may safely divest yourself of pants or bikinis and begin to experience the amazing freedom that comes from swimming in your natural birth day suit.
The term 'beach' is somewhat tenuous as the area is far more covered with boulders and rocks but the clamber down to the water's edge is rewarded as you dip your toes into Lake Travis' clean blue waters. Swimming is safe here as boats and jet skis are forced to go around the buoys that protect the large swimming area.
Whether you choose to go to Hippie Hollow on your own or with friends, do take all drinking water you'll need, through NOT in a glass bottle, plus sun screen and any shade you would like to enjoy such as umbrellas or other shades.
Also be aware that unfortunately, there are a few, most unwelcome perverts who get their kicks from ogling visitors. If you see such creatures please point them out to the Park wardens who patrol the area. And they will ensure these pests are removed from the park.
Hippie Hollow is a marvelous place to enjoy. Scenic, peaceful, friendly. There are even two flush Rest Rooms. But do visit Hippie Hollow for yourself - you'll almost certainly return, yeaR after year. I did!

Nude sun bathing is the main attraction for this park. From the parking lot, you walk down a steep incline to the lake shore. Best to wear tennis shoes because flip flops won't cut it. Bring your own food and drink; there are no restaurants or snack bars. However, there are several rest rooms. Crowd was very easy going, mostly young adults or the later half of baby boomers. The lake water was a bit cold. Alcohol is allowed, but you need to drink from a covered container (i.e.: no drinking from a beer can, but OK to drink from a plastic cup). The parking lot is controlled by the county and they charge $15 dollars for the the day.

What a beauty! Definitely my favorite spots in Texas. Very rocky and can get cut so bring some shoes. Bring some tubes to float with. Clean water and nice people.

This park is a great "couples" retreat, to just get away from the real world, relax, suntan, swim, read a book or reconnect with each other. This is a clothing optional park, so if nudity offends you, or if you don't enjoy social nudity, you should go elsewhere. Its not a requirement to disrobe, but most people do. Swim suits are obviously not necessary, but the water is deep and the rocks are hard. Bring some kind of float device, sturdy shoes to protect your feet on land and while getting in in the water, and towels for a place to sit or sun. There are no amenities for sale in the park -- bring food, drink, and sunscreen with you. No glass is allowed, and no lewd behavior, act like an adult or risk getting kicked out. The park can become quite crowded on weekends, so pick a weekday if you prefer less of a crowd. No one under 18 is allowed. The park is about 20-30 minutes from Austin, depending on the traffic.

If you are a nudist then I'm sure you would love this place. My sense was that there were several nudists but a lot more people there to gawk at the nudists. It's at a great location but it wasn't the vibe we were looking for.

The beachline is non-existent unless water is low (which is has been due to drought). IF the water is low and you want to get sun then you will be climbing and it's a little treacherous.
There are a ton of creeps here. This is not a family nudists area, or even just a place to be comfortable being nude while being around others. It's primarily used for voyeurism and discrete hook ups. There was a guy who was taking photos through a telescopic lens. He left before anything could be done about it. But seriously, worst nudist experience ever.
If you're looking for actual nudists events look at Hill Country Nudists http://hillcountrynudists.com/

First of all, there is no where to lie out in the sun. Sharp rocks everywhere. It's terribly steep too. As soon as my husband and I walked into the park we were approached and "greeted" by nude older men, wanting to talk etc.. We sat on the rocks for awhile....there were just naked older guys everywhere. It really was creepy. We thought we'd try this, as we'd been to these type of places in Europe.i was so uncomfortable...the sharp rocks...no where to sit...creepy guys, that we left. We didn't even disrobe...it was just creepy. Plus there's a nearby bar that overlooks the area, so you just know there are drunks watching you even if you can't see them. I don't recommend it...unless this appeals to,you. In Europe it's better...no one approaches you...it's more discreet.

This was a great place to cool down plenty of place to swim. there was a good mix of people of all ages and sex. many nudist couples and groups of peoples from both sexes enjoying the day.

Haven't been nude in public since Hedo, but great 2 days here...great locals, cool relaxed atmosphere. ...sun n fun

A Texas tradition. I first went here in the early 1980s. It was free to get in then, but the place is still pretty wild. Bring water shoes or sandals because the rocks are fairly jagged. Overall a place that should be preserved and enjoyed for generations.

Large rocky lake beach. This is not your typical nude beach in the US. It is all rocks and you need a chair or a Matt. We had towels and it hurt sitting on the rocks. Wear water shoes to get in the water but very pretty.

We visited this local attraction on a Sunday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised. It is Texas' only clothes optional park, which drew us here for the promise of no tan lines.
The cost of visiting is $15 per car, one parks and walks less than 250 meters to a slope of rocks that leads down to Lake Travis. The portion of the lake that allows nude swimming is portioned off by buoys.
The area near the water is the more social part, but one can really sit anywhere and be left alone. It is really about how open a person is to taking his or her clothes off. In fact, one can keep a swimsuit on.

I used to frequent this place when I lived there in the ha ha not so distant past. loved going there and seeing the people go past in their boats with their binoculars as we were on the rocks sunbathing as well as the bikers in the parking lot. Don't know what it's like now hopefully time has left it alone. Look forward to relocating to Austin in the imminent future and revisiting Hippie Hollow. Sad to find out that Armadillo World Headquarters is now gone. Saw a lot of good music there.

Beautiful area, and stays in context of keeping Austin weird. Relaxed atmosphere and nice memory of a perfect day shared with someone I loved. ;)

To me, Hippie Hollow represents Austin as a whole: a very friendly, liberal place where you can enjoy nature.
Hippie Hollow is a beautiful, well maintained nude beach. Now, it's not really a beach in the sense that there is sand, but there are nice rocks that you can sunbathe on instead. It also differs from a beach in that there are many shade trees, which makes is a nice reprieve from the heat and sun.
They've made recent improvements with a nice paved long path so it makes it easy to get around. There are two relatively clean restrooms.
In general, before the first two bathrooms is straight and after that is gay, for a general reference point. The area where the ramp goes down is generally the locals area and is usually most crowded.
The swim area is nice and wide and the water is very deep. Some people scuba dive or snorkel around the water. The water can be clear or murky, depending on whether it rained recently.
There are two major events at the park, Splash Day on Memorial Day and on Labor Day. On those days, the park is absolutely jam-packed.
The lake water temperature is really only comfortable starting in May and continuing to October. Before that it is quite chilly, although the weather can be warm from March to November.
Even if you're not planning to go nude, the park is so much better than the other parks like Mansfield Dam Park or Windy Point - those both tend to have plenty of trash. However, Hippie Hollow is very clean and well kept up.
It's the only nude beach in Texas and is well worth it.
Admission is $12 per car or $2 with a season pass.

The best place in Texas to spend time with like-minded adults free from clothes and judgment. Everyone is courteous and most participate nude. Even the rangers who patrol the lake are friendly. Plenty of space to sit on the rocks but finding one to lay down in the shade is hard. Some bring their tents for shade. Parking is usually full on holiday weekends so come early or late. Bring sturdy shoes to walk down to the lake as rocks are uneven and something under your towel for cushion. The area where the party boats gather near stairs #1 tend to be the most crowded and fun :)

Lived in Austin for many years but this was our first time to Hippie Hollow. We kayaked over to the "beach" from Mansfield Dam Rec Area. Another review stated that the park is kind of divided up into sections of different people and it is very true. Gay men couples were at one end of the park and the couples section was at the other end. A few boats were anchored right at the edge of the swimming area, but that wasn't a problem at all. All of the couples on the boats were nude as well! My wife and I didn't experience any problems whatsoever. Just a beautiful, sunny day experiencing the best of Austin. I will mention that you definitely need to bring something soft to lay on for the rocks. They are sharp and treacherous. Bring a raft and float is the best advice I can give. Great day!

Great for fun and relaxation. Bring your guitar and smokes and settle in for a great night with friends.

It is your typical nude beach area. There were no one just standing around to look. It was a very comfortable area. It is very rocky is you want to get to the water. We tried and got as far as the water and it was so slippery we were afraid we would hurt ourselves. We wish we would have thought to bring folding chairs. We sat on some rocks and then realize there was a ant hill and got bit in areas you don't want to.

We made a short visit to the park. The waterfront area is rocky--no sand anywhere. The swim area is well marked. There are several areas to hike. This is a sanctioned naturist park (clothing optional). You must be at least 18 years old to enter. Entry fee is $12 per car. Day use only.

Hippie Hollow is Texas' only legal clothing-optional lake beach. it's a blast! A few tip to make it easier:
1. BRING SUNBLOCK. Texas sun is strong and you don't want to sunburn your......
2. Bring a 2nd set of shoes you don't mind getting wet. I would recommend old sneakers-so they won't come off. It's rocky and you will be walking up and down hills then diving into the water!
3. BRING WATER. There are no amenities here. In fact, bring *anything* you want to drink, but stay hydrated.
4. Straight area is as you walk in. Gay area is to the south, to your left.
5. NOT A BATHHOUSE. No sex is allowed and all areas are patrolled.
But if you want some nice sun on your fanny with a GREAT view--this is a AWESOME place to commune with the beauty of the Austin area in the buff!

an austin spectacle. enjoy the lake and other great views. some hotties and some notties choose to take their clothes off. can head to oasis after and watch the sunselt and bathers.

I had heard about Hippie Hollow many years ago and finally made the splash. WE had company. The water was great, almost dark but the storm drove us from the water before we were ready.

Nice location....well kept.....nice folks....felt safe in the area from the park rangers patrolling the area often.

Loved going to the Hollow all around. The ranger who took our $15 entrance fee was very informative and courteous about the clothing optional rules and included other helpful ideas to utilize the park. Beautiful hot day, the lake was low but still clear and cool. Lots of flat limestone ridges to hang out on, take your pick. Paved steps/ paths and proper flushing toilet facilities were awesome. All the other swimmers were considerate of each other’s personal space. It was a wonderful afternoon!
Note: the buoy line for the swimming area has broken in the center. But when a boat utilized this break to anchor close to shore, a park ranger came down to politely ask him to move. It was nice for us swimmers to be looked after like that!

I went on a weekday and met two very nice regulars who gave me the run-down on the park. You don't have to walk far, you don't have to look hard for a place to tan. If you don't want to be bothered, you won't be. While I was there I saw a woman get all over a guy who was doing something inappropriate. She read him the riot act and a few of us stared at him...he left and all was back to normal.
For the TRUE nudist, this is a great place. The people are friendly, the faciliates are clean and close to the area and you can bring coolers, just no glass.
Do youself a favor and go nude. If you don't you'll stick out like a sroe thumb.

Clothing optional. Rocky beach and rustic. Bring towels, chairs, floats, drinks, etc. Great for couples to spend the day. We go on week days, but have been on a Sunday and it has not been crowded, but I have heard Saturdays are busy. Unique experience you can't do (legally!) anywhere else.

Straight away, you should know you're going to see nude bathers there...so what, live and let live. When I first moved to Austin, my boyfriend at the time suggested we go for a hike and we stumbled upon this place. I fell in love with the scenic views (no, not the naked folks), its just really serene there. I'm European so nude bathing is not a shocker to me, but it rattled him that he only saw naked men, but the women were on the opposite side. I said, "hey look, there's women (he was expecting swimsuit models, but nope) lol. Seriously, its a lovely, shady place to have a picnic and of course, go for a swim...probably not suited for the youngsters unless they are used to this sort of thing. Keep an open mind and check it out, there's not many places you can find freedom like this in our country.

In the '60s Hippie Hollow was fun, quiet, secluded and a great place to hang out on the rocks in the buff and take in the sun and water. Since then it has gradually been taken over by ruffians and gay activists who seem to resent straight couples. There have always been redneck rubberneckers in boats, but now there is a steady stream of them scoping the shores with binoculars. Ick. Find another place to go; this one has been ruined.

Awesome! Been going since 2004 and I ALWAYS have an enjoyable and relaxing time out there. Never a dull moment. Every mature man and or woman should experience this jewel of Texas at least once. Plus my uncle said he remembers when there were NO paved trails, WOW!

Great for adults as most of not all will be without clothing. Leave the kiddos somewhere else. Plan on spending lots of time in the water here, as it can get really hot during the summer.

McGregor Park (more commonly known as Hippie Hollow) is on the rocky shore of Lake Travis, near Austin, Texas. This is part of the Travis County park system and does allow full nudity within its bounds. Unlike a number of years ago, the park is now restricted to 18 year olds and older. The park is along the edge of the lake and is characterized by large limestone rocks ringing the steep shoreline. Hippie Hollow attracts couples who like to enjoy the water and sun in the altogether as well as a large gay contingent who generally congregate at the far end of the park. Unfortunately, the drought in recent years has dropped the level of the lake so that getting to the water's edge requires a perilous climb. Nudity is not universally practiced by all who visit the park. At my recent visit, the clothed and unclothed were about equal in number. While in the past lewd behavior among the trees was commonplace, such behavior will now get one a ticket to the Travis County jail as the area is heavily monitored by the park police. Hippie Hollow can be a enlightening and interesting experience. For those broad minded souls who like things a bit different, a visit to Hippie Hollow should be on their travel agenda.

The views are amazing, the people are friendly; and nice that you can be nude in Texas legally without having to worry about getting caught.

The rocks are steep, and the water is very low, but the view is fabulous and therer is plenty of room to relax. We have been twice, once in early July when it was very hot, and now in Sept right after a cool front and nice weather. Both time, one Friday and one Saturday, there were maybe a dozen cars in the lot and about half the people in the park were single men. We felt safe and comfortable. If the lake were closer to full, swimming might be fun, but as it is, it is very hard to get down to the water. We did not go into the wilderness trails part of the park, just along the paved path just above the rocks.
If you go, take either a chair to sit on or a thick pad to lay on as the rocks are HARD, and just towels don't do the trick. There is some shade high up in the rocks, but the areas down close to the water are full sun all the time.
There were no concessions in the park and this last trip, the bathrooms were being repaired and porta johns were it.
So for a fairly rustic place to go naked, with a good view, this is the place. And for $12/car (or $2 for seniors), the price is right. If we didn't live so far away, we would probably go at least once a month during the warm weather.

Although there are buoys that keep you away from shore, it is aggravating when the nudesters float out to the buoys and my young children get an eyeful.

Hippo Hollow was an amazing, awesome getaway for open minded adults (couples). Myself & my girlfriend met a couple who was also into the lifestyle. We enjoyed laying on the lakes shore and swimming in the water. Beautiful relaxing area.

This place is so popular there is a $2 surcharge even with a seasonal pass. :( What a great place to enjoy the water and hot sun sans swimsuit and all totally legal. It has it's share of gawkers but all nude beaches do The clientele are very friendly and Parking is close and bathrooms are provided. However the $2 surcharge for the locals is a rip-off and if I was close enough to visit all summer long I would try to get the surcharge repealed. Still worth it (That's how they get by with it) but That and the fact that they no longer allow minors (They must feel minors cannot adjust to naked people) are the only drawbacks to this park. I still would recommend this place to anyone especially those who have never tried a nude beach before.

In a random decision, a small group of friends and I decided to cool off. Because it was spontaneous, we didn't have everything too thought out so Hippie Hollow worked out pretty good.
The water was perfect, people were clothed and nude... Good balance of men and women. Younger crowd in the 30's-40's than we anticipated.
Not much of a beach or easy lounge spots so will definitely prep next time with pool shoes, towels, chairs, WATER, etc.
Was nice to cool off and try something new and unexpected without it being a scary and disgusting experience. :-)

I went there years ago and mostly dudes so now you were warned! Pretty lake scenery but the Sausage Fest ruined my experience. This was mt first and only nude bathing and because of all the old hairy disgusting fat dudes I am scared for life and can't ever sun bath nude again.

We first visited in the late 70's. Just a gravel parking lot and dirt trails cut through the trees to the shoreline. Hippies supposedly lived in cars there at one time.
Back way then, a guy was arrested for sunning naked on the rocky shoreline. He fought the charge and won. Merely being nude was not illegal at Hippy Hollow, making it the only, legal public nude beach in Texas.
Nowadays, the parking lot is paved, there are paved trails and stairs, handicap access, and bathrooms with running water.
Mostly everybody is nude. Fairly obvious police presence to discourage disorderly (drunk) or lewd conduct.
Totally laid back, awesome place to visit. Lake Travis is one of the clearest lakes in Texas, and it is a joy to swim there.
Lake Travis is a variable level, flood control lake. Over the years we've seen the level at a low of 650s asl and 710 or so. The photo shown is the lake mostly full, or full.
We lived 150 yards down from the park for 8 years. Been there many, many times.
No camping or food. Toilets yes.

This has definitely been the hang out for "dirty old men" over the years and still is. People will park their boats or hike in. This is typically a nudist paradise. Just be ready for constant "drive bys" from boats wanting to catch the "view". There are always more men than women and the men are almost always completely nude. This is not a family destination spot for sure. But, if you want the been there, done that T-shirt - Go for it.

The lake views are beautiful, not the visitors. The area is known for nude sunbathing and wouldn't be so bad if it was a mix. Unfortunately, its 99% males.

My girlfriend and I made a stop at Hippie Hollow for our first clothing optional beach going experience. As soon as you pass the gate, you're winding around and down, stepping over logs and rocks through the rough trails approaching the shore. Once you clear the trees, the landscape opens wide to a white rock beach. As of Aug 2012 the lake levels are much lower than normal, which actually gives you more area to roam. Make note there is little to no "sand" on this beach. It is most rock, so here's a few pointers. Take at least a few towels for cushion on your bare bottom. We got a few short legged foldable chairs and they worked perfectly. Wear something other than flip flops. The rocks become a little treacherous in flip flops. Lastly, pack light...the chairs, towels and a small cooler would be sufficient, but remember that you have to scale down the rocks with what you bring. As long as you're prepared you'll love the place! It had a nice mix of age groups, shapes and sizes. We're in our mid 20s and we had a great time!

I find it offensive that groups of guys get off their lawn-mowing jobs early, get a six-pack, and come down here to oggle women. My friend and I are throwing rocks at these jerks next time. You have been warned.

Went with my GF and had a blast. Took a picnic and some beers and worked on some tan! Shoes or sandals reccomended as there is no beach, only rocks. The drop off in the water is several feet with ledges to stand on.

As a local resident I have been there a number times over the years mostly by boat. If you plan to walk in you need to be a GOAT. Planned to be DISGUSTED, the people that you want to see nude keep their clothes ON and the DIRTY OLD MEN in black socks sans clothes will damage your eyes. In addition there is alot of pervert trolling and guys lurking above in the woods trying to catch a glimpse of the naked folks. The restrooms are atrocious. If you want to be GROSSED OUT, this is your place.

As of this writing (August 10, 2014) the lake is about 50 feet lower than normal due to the drought, so you would need to climb down a hill to arrive at the water level. It's not too difficult, but you need some strength and balance since there's no clear path.
The entrance fee is $15 per car. I didn't mind it since I thought it was a good way to prevent creepers from entering the area.
The "beach" itself isn't sandy. The land is very rocky and you may have a difficult time finding a comfortable place to sit. Also, there is almost no shade on the beach.
As for the nudity, I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. There were all sorts of ages and body types and everyone was respectful of everyone else. Also, you don't have to be nude if you don't want to. I think it was split 50/50 in terms of nude vs. clothed.
I went with two friends on a Saturday afternoon and had an enjoyable time. The water was moderately warm for swimming in early August (I estimate about 78 degrees Fahrenheit) and unusually blue. Just put on some sunblock since you're almost guaranteed to receive long-term sun exposure.

If nude beaches is of interest to you then this is the place. There rocks around the edge of the water. Please be prepared to be part mountain goat. But, the water is cool and deep clothing is optional.

would be a 5 if there was actually a BEACH. have almost always enjoyed ourselves there .... only negative are the work crews that take their lunch their to ogle.

Awesome location! I recommend everyone try it out at least once. It's really a beautiful spot, beautiful lake, and sooo nice for a swim on a hot day. We went on a Saturday and it was a little crowded but we were still able to find a nice quiet spot where there weren't too many people. We got there around 11 AM and when we left around 3 or so it was definitely more crowded, so it gets more crowded as the day goes on. As some other reviewers have said, just a reminder, this is not a sandy beach, it is all rocks. We brought towels to lay on, but when we go again I would bring chairs or mats or something more cushiony because, you know, rocks are hard. The water is beautiful and blue, and everyone was respectful. It's just adults having a good time. Definitely a unique experience, perfect for a hot day! Highly recommend. Get rid of your inhibitions.

Hippy Hollow is honestly such a wonderful place for the free spirited to enjoy! I’ve never felt odd or out of place there. Lots of college aged kids there!

It seems most parks along the lake are fee per use, $10-15. I didn't see that mentioned in reviews. The road along the lake doesn't have much view. The only place where you can lake view is vacation rental, B&B, or Oasis restaurant. Kind of disappointing that the state charges you to visit a lake.

I feel like we are in Europe when we drive by and see all of the nude sunbathers. I really like the diversity on lake travis.

Lake view is good, you can get some good pictures, trek around, sit down on the rocks and gaze at the lake. Don be surprised to find people being conveniently naked, because, yes this Texas's only clothing optional park. Though any kind of unethical activities, lewd behavior is not encouraged. People are quite self contained :-) and not disturbing, so better to maintain it that way. Rest, nothing interesting, but a nice place to get away on a nice sunny day.

My wife and I visited in May 2019. We didn't know what to expect so we did not prepare for a long visit and made plans to stay only an hour or two. After going through the pay station, we parked, walked down and as soon it was allowed to go NAKED, we did. Not to many people that day, but all there were nude. It is rocky but if you take a blanket, you can find a comfortable spot. The water was nice, however be careful because it's easy to get in but a bit difficult to get out because of the slippery rocks. We had always wanted to fish Naked and we did. My wife caught two good sized bass and a pretty big bluegill. I caught nothing. You can consume

Very few people there. Difficult to get down to the water. A few cabins and/or camping spots would be great. Very few nice places to lay down and relax.

Not our first trip to Hippie Hollow and won’t be our last. Such a relaxing and quiet place. Sunbathe nude, swim, read, listen to music, or just close your eyes and chill.

I never miss a chance to visit the hippie hollow. The place is beautiful and no worries if you forgot your bathing suit, you don't need one here. Yes it's clothing optional! Nothing like a nice swim naked!

Accidentally stumbled on this clothing optional beach on Lake Travis.
It’s 18 yrs and older. They ID.
We didn’t go nude, but still felt welcome. Most people are cool, but there are some creepy guys there.
Beware of the hike to the beach. You need tennis shoes or water shoes. Very steep rocks.

Beach that clothing is optional.....so know you will see people swimming in the nude. Beach is very rocky and to get there you will need to hike down some very rocky uneven terrain. Limited shady areas. Cost to get in the park is 15.00... and that is all I have to say about that.

Had a good time here at Hippie Hollow this past weekend. Our only regret is that we used spray on sunscreen, and apparently didn't cover ourselves well enough as we got sunburned, but hey, we'll know better the next time.
Getting down to the water is a rock-climbing experience, so make sure you're ready for that. That's why I made my faint of heart comment. The water is a little low right now, so that's more climbing than other parts of the year.
As with most clothing optional beaches / swimming places, there are unofficial sections, and the LGBT section is as far as you can go on the roadway before you take one of the last sets of stone stairs. In our case, we took stairway # 14.
It's a pleasant crowd there. Swam out to talk with some folks who had come over on their boat, and anchored just off the rock wall. Wound up in conversation on the boat for quite a while just enjoying the day.
We took a couple of chairs that were compact enough to carry on our backs, and we're glad we had those to sit on. Plus, we positioned ourselves under a tree so we at least had some shade.

I have dived from a boat off the shore of Hippie Hollow enough times to make an observation. Since the Lake has come back up, it seems it's only a short walk from the parking lot to the shore. Seems to be quiet during the week, but crowded during the weekend afternoons. We find a lot of lost sunglasses in the swimming areas. Lots of large catfish and Bass.

Yes, if you heard that you can go nude bathing, it is true. And this is in Texas! For an older guy like me, this was heaven. Thank goodness my wife is in excellent shape and joined in the fun. Despite all of the stories about creeps hanging around, I didn't see any, The water level is way down, I was told, so that's a bit of a bummer, but this is a fun place to experience at least once in your life.

This place is not for kids!! It is a fun place to people watch. You will see nude people!! This place is not for you if you do not like nudity! You can swim or sit and have a picnic. There are boats in the water but you can take a tube and float in the water. Go when there has been a lot of rain. The water is higher!

You don't have to take your clothes off to enjoy the park. If the water level would come back up one could actually swim in Lake Travis.

First time visiting Hippie Hollow. It’s clothing optional, and there’s enough non naked people that you wouldn’t feel weird if you stayed dressed. I got there about 1 and got undressed as soon as I was out of the parking lot. Felt perfectly comfortable walking around the park completely nude.
Terrain leading down to the water was rough. My flip flops were sadly inadequate. Next time I am bringing water shoes.
The only thing that made me a little uncomfortable was the restrooms. There were no doors at all on the stalls. Walking around all day nude didn’t bother me, but I would have preferred a stall door for taking a #2 and wiping off afterward. Nobody in the restroom said or did anything inappropriate, but just not having a door was strange.
Other than that, I had a great experience.

Visited mid-week and enjoyed the visit. $15 admission/car admission a bit steep but guess that helps keep away some of the just curious or gawkers. Nice weather and although the sun darted in and out of the clouds looked to be about 30 - 40 people there including about 6 couples. Some were up in the tree line for some shade, others laying out on the rocks and others down by the water which is still about 50' below full level so have good walking shoes (not flip flops as you can easily slip on the loose rocks). Spoke with the ranger that was walking the trail and he was very pleasant. Said they are there to ensure folks have a safe visit and it is rare for them to issue any citations for lewd behavior; although they will not hesitate to do so if someone is not acting appropriately.

For starters I am not a nudist but was interested in the idea of being completely free in nature. My husband and I visited even after the reviews about "creeps". We were not once in an uncomfortable situation. Though we weren't prepared for the terrain and didn't bring towels to lay on it was a very neat experience. I did feel the need to respect others space and I felt like we were treated the same way. I have nothing bad to say and if there were any "creeps", I was not aware, nor did it matter.
Even though the lake level is low, the beauty of this lake is unparalleled. Note that Hippie Hollow is clothing optional.
