Went there for hiking on the weekend, there was a line of cars in the morning to get in. It took us like 30 minutes to get in. We had the easiest trail and it took us 45 minutes round trip. It was really nice with small waterfalls and palm trees. We enjoyed our hiking at the Indian canyon.

We rented electric bikes to get up to the canyon. I hiked Andreas hike. Not really a hike. Beautiful views and shady areas. Worth it!

By annastrip |

Beautiful hike. Can keep it to a short but scenic 2 miles with some elevation or make it longer. Worth the $12 admission.
Gift Store on site to get snacks pre/post hike

We have visited Palm Springs every year for the past 8 years, but this was our first visit to Indian Canyon. We took the mile hike near the Palm Tree forest, and it was glorious. Make sure you visit this hidden gem on your visit to Palm Springs.

Wanted to hike but heavy rains washed out roads so unable to visit. We were told it was an excellent spot for hiking with little ones.

The place looks lovely, but be warned that this site has discretion over when they do and do not want to allow guests in. The location was busy and we waited 30 min to get to the front of the line to get a ticket to pay $24 to enter. When we got to the front of the line we were told that they were closing for 60-90 minutes. It’s frustrating, but it’s fine. Just sharing the information so folks can make an informed choice on whether you want to risk coming. If I were to do it again I would come earlier in the day to avoid a closure like this

Beautiful scenery, fairly easy trails. A great way to get a little exercise and enjoy nature at its finest.

I had never been to a desert oasis before and found it fascinating to see all the palm trees in the canyon surrounded by desert and cacti. Would love to see it in the spring when the water is running. Definitely worth visiting.

Excellent place for a hike, you have different options based on distance and difficulty. On some tracks you can switch to other routes.

In just two hours we got a feel for being in a canyon and the views from the ridge. We started walking down the palm canyon. Lots of palm trees, obviously. Very green foliage by the stream. Then after a mile we followed the trail up the mountain and saw beautiful views of Palm Springs, the canyon below and the distant mountains. It was a great hike. Go early. We were there at 10:00 and there were just a few cars ahead of us to pay the admission fee. When we left at 12:30, there were about 20 cars in line.

We pre-purchased our entrance fee online to make our arrival more efficient. We brought our steel gym bottles filled with water, a few water bottles, and some ice in the hotel ice bucket so we could refresh our steel gym bottles with ice and water when we ran out. We arrived in the morning to try to beat some of the afternoon sun/heat and crowds. There is ample parking if you go early enough, but lots do get full. We spent approximately 3.5 to 4 hours hiking and enjoying the huge palm trees, beautiful views, and creeks/streams along our hikes.

TIPS: Go early. Bring lots of cold water.

During our week in Southern California, we visited 3 National Parks, but the best hiking of the trip was here in the Indian Canyons. When you hear the name Palm Springs, this is the natural occurrence that gives the name. We saw one of these natural oases in JTNP, but the size and beauty of the oasis here is so much more impressive. However, the hiking here which links stretches in the oasis with stretches in the hills provides incredible contrast.

One of my friends I hiked with said it was like hiking in Hawaii (in the oasis), then Arizona (the desert hills) and to look up at Colorado (the snow-capped San Jacinto Peak). While the palm oasis is amazing, these hikes are more as the desert here was amazing in the spring, so many cacti in bloom. All this time you are hiking in the shadows of the high San Jacinto mountains, especially San Jacinto Peak which was snow-capped for our visit.

Yes, it cost to visit tribal land and yes, it can be crowded. However, there is a reason as this has some of the best hiking. You will not be disappointed by a visit here. Simply the desert or oasis trails would be impressive on their own, but you will get both. Another unique treat is the entrance to the canyons where the road in and out is a single car lane going between the canyon wall and bolder along the creek. Anyways all of it will add up to the best experience in the Palm Springs area. I cannot recommend the hiking here more.

Best hiking I've been on in years. Start at the Trading Post. Recommend that you start on one of the sunnier trails and return on the Palm trail. You will really need the shade by then.

A Palm Springs must-see! It's surprising all this water and these palm trees in the middle of the desert and the mountains... It's magnificent and beautiful walks. To do!

By Mark K |

Never would I have dreamed that a place like this existed in the Western Hemisphere. Palm Canyon is amazing. The tribe has done an excellent job in not ruining the experience by adding attractions, etc.

By 2YYS4ME |

Really enjoyed the quiet of this little hike. Not to difficult, but wouldn't do in sandals. Parking lot is tight, to get in and out of if it's busy.

By Karyn5657 |

We horse back rode through here but it's also a neat hike. Many people were hiking with kids and the springs are very pretty.

By J R |

Did a family hike here over the holidays. Good exercise, amazing palm canyons, well maintained trails, a little pricey.

By Rochelle F |

We went in the afternoon (as there was a sand storm in the morning so our planned activity to Joshua Tree was canceled). This was a great place to unexpectedly visit. We hiked the Andreas Canyon trail - go up the right side (shady side) for the hike up and follow it counterclockwise; Follow the water. We went with our 3-year old grand nephews who thought it was quite an adventure, if a bit long for them (1.5 miles +?). You do need to hike uphill but it is worth it. There is a waterfall at the top (my husband climbed down for a photo op). This was a fun walk; do also bring lots of water to drink.

The Indian Canyons area consists of two main areas that I know of, Andreas Canyon and Palm Canyon, both reachable from the same road after you pass through the entrance. Andreas Canyon is shorter and much easier to hike, but still has nice views. Palm Canyon is much more extensive. The trails I hiked, mainly the Victor trail, was between and easy and moderate, depending on your fitness level. A bit rocky in places so wear sturdy shoes. Hiked in January, weather was great, around 60 degrees. Will definitely go back and try other trails.

By Stewart H |

^ of us hiked for 4 hours in the Canyons. The trails were well marked and in good shape. There is a small fee to get in ($8-9 per person) but it is worth it. You can get maps there for directions.

By Susie G |

You pay for entry, but it's worth it for the hiking that allows multiple abilities to enjoy a beautiful hike.

By Esmeralda Rubi Alvarez |

This is my 3rd time visiting the beautiful Indian Canyons and to tell you the truth it never disappoints me. It's nature its so enjoyable to see and hear. The weather for me so far it has been very enjoyable when I come to hike. I don't reccomend visiting during the summer because it gets too hot out here in the desert to hike, but if the heat doesn't bother you then you should be okay just keep yourself hydrated. I definitely recommend bringing with you your own drinks and food to this place they have picnic tables. As well at the trading post they sell drinks, snacks and food other than post cards, souvenirs, jewelry ect. I highly recommend this place.

By Glen P |

The ranger directed us to the Andreas Canyon walk - easy for kids and lots of interesting scenery from the rushing brook, great palms trees, rock formations and wide open desert. With stops the hike took around 1.5 hours. It was very enjoyable for the 9 and 11 year old. We have done longer 5 hour hikes out of this area but without the grandkids. Easy to access from anywhere in the Palm area.

By Micky H |

We are not big hikers but we did thoroughly enjoy our hike. We chose the smaller hike out of the choices and it took us about 50 minutes to do the loop. I won’t spoil it for you but the walk is easy and you won’t be disappointed.

By Greg S |

I am a history buff and always in awe of the splendors of Mother Nature. The Indian Canyons have cold water running through them all year long. The air under the palm trees is cool and comfortable just a few miles away from the intense heat of the desert. You can imagine the aboriginal habitants of the Coachella Valley living here all year long and having this amazing natural resource nearby to escape the intense heat. It is truly spectacular to hike the canyons, admire the unusual rock formations, and feel the cool water flowing from the high mountains. I recommend this place for all who visit the beautiful desert to enhance their appreciation of the area.

By Penny W |

I am not one to pay to go on a hiking trail, but the Indian Canyons were worth the money. We did a short circuit around the California Palm Trees Oasis and it was breathtaking and picturesque. The trail was well established, though the loose sand made the trail a bit slippery at times, and I would rate it as an “easy” trail. There were also many other trails of longer duration and skill level that one could choose to go on.

By awaso |

We hiked through the Indian Canyons during the week between Christmas and New Years. This is one of the most amazing sights we had ever seen. The view of the palm trees against the barren hills was stunning. The walk through the palm trees felt like we were in Pandora. This is place not to be missed.

By Stuart C |

Easy to find from central Palm Springs you pay for entry at the main gate and then drive up to the canyons. There is plenty of parking and a basic restroom at Andreas canyon. The walk is in a loop and took about 45 minutes. It was very pretty walking through the palms by the stream and we got lots of great photos. After our walk we headed up to the main visitor centre were the snacks and drinks were reasonably priced. We just sat on the benches and watched the mountain goats make their way up the Canyon. All in all a lovely afternoon.

By movinon6 |

I can’t say enough about this attraction in the desert. My husband and I are new to the area and were excited about hiking in Joshua Tree but I saw a blurb about Indian Canyon so we decided to check it out. My only regret was that we got there late and ran out of time to more than a 3 mile hike. But that was enough to convince us to return. Beautiful, scenic and unique. Hikes of all levels. Plan to spend the day. Can’t wait to return.

By Polly K |

I have hiked several trails in the canyons and thought they were terrific. I especially liked the Andreas Trail for an easy family hike.

By Adam81980 |

There are three different trails here. We did a short 3 mile loop off the 15 mile Palm Canyon trail. The trail is easy to follow but expect it to get narrow and rocky in places with hills and steep drop offs: I’m not sure I’d bring a small child to hike here? A good pair of hiking boots is recommended. Watch out for rattlesnakes in warmer months, as well as bring plenty of water. Especially if you’re going to venture far down the trails.

Really enjoyed a serene three hours in complete pease and quiet. We only came across two people and, generally there was complete silence. Couldn’t even hear a car in the distance and it felt like we were 50 miles out in the desert.

The front gate closes at 5pm and they start towing from the trailhead lots. Recommend more than three hours to really see this place. More like a couple days.

By legsbell |

There are 3 distinct hiking areas comprising Indian crayons. We really liked Palm Canyon due to the indigenous California Fan Palm population and easy waterfall hike. The trading post store also has some great treasures and good prices.

By cfavr59 |

Unless you are a seasoned hiker, beware of the Maynard Mine trail---it is not a loop and I swear it is more than the 3 mile one way trip that is indicated on the sign! We never made it to the mine (not sure it's really there! LOL) Some rough terrain and uphill. Foolishly, we did not review the rating of the trail before we started---lesson learned. Great views though. We also did the Andreas Canyon Loop and highly recommend this one--easy to navigate and some great views. All-in-all a highly recommended activity while in Palm Springs.

By Alisa B |

By far the most beautiful place we visited in the Palm Springs area. I would highly recommend a visit.

By Dwight T |

An easy walk for as long as you have. Take plenty of water. Don’t feel that you need to do the higher trails unless you have good shoes and a couple of water bottle and. Sun tan lotion for the babies and kids or you may be sorry.

By RushCubFan |

It's well worth taking the short drive to Indian Canyons. There's several to choose from and we hike 3 - Indian, Palm and Andreas Canyons. Go in the morning when it's still cool and wear good hiking shoes. The interplay of creek, palms and rock is quite stunning!

By Roland J |

It was very cool to learn about the Native American history associated with the canyons and desert surrounding Palm Springs. We saw a few snakes and lizards, and a hike up a rocky slope and through some palm trees was very interesting. This visit was in November 2012 not 2019.

By Laura M. |

Gorgeous Low-80's day & we enjoyed every minute in Indian Canyons! We chose to do the Victor Trail/ Palm Canyon Loop - a nice hike up the hillsides, with lots of "Roller Coaster" ups & downs & the final descent into the Palm Oasis as our reward. Ranger Ralph was very helpful (tho he seemed doubtful as to whether or not we 4 midlifer women could DO it, & we were so sorry he was gone when we got back to the Trading Post!). We all wanted to tell him how much we LOVED our hike! He'd recommended we also go see the big waterfall past the restrooms, so we did, & that was totally worth it too. At this time if you look up, you can still see how HIGH the mud splashed up the palm trees & surrounding rock walls during the recent end-of-winter rainstorms Palm Springs got! Looks like the aftermath of a giant FLOOD!
The views from the Victor Trail are wonderful - some of The Town, some of the Windmills, some of the San Jacintos & surrounding hills. And when you reach the ridge, you get really cool views looking down on Palm Canyon where you can sometimes see waterfalls & other hikers.
We packed in Subway lunches (E. Palm Canyon Dr., not too far from S. Palm Canyon) & stopped to eat on a giant rock overlooking melodious waterfalls in the oasis. There's also a picnic area near the Trading Post trailhead, with several tables, views of the creek, & trash cans.
Recommend taking Victor Trail FIRST, then coming back through the canyon to cool off! Trailhead's at 2nd lot - veer Left on dirt road.

We did the andreas canyon with 2 young people of 17 and 19 years, the tour is quick and easy. The landscapes are beautiful this to all!!

By Amy d |

A perfect day trip from Palm Springs - preferably early morning before the heat sets in. We hiked down to Palm Canyon and Andreas Canyon with our 2 young children (ages 3 and 6). Totally doable as a family and enjoyable for all. Stunningly beautiful and peaceful. Palm canyon has stunning trees and Andreas canyon a delicious cool river to dip your feet in.

By SLOBoludo |

Located at the end of South Palm Canyon. Close to the city, but you feel as your are way out in the desert. While there is hiking trails all over, the oasis’ by the creeks are a must see; casual walk or long hike- your call

By Maryam R |

you need to pay fee to get in.
It was a long line outside of the area. It took us half an hour to pay( sinor and student discount is available and kids under 5 are free)

The place was recommended to us by a friend. We went to Andreas loop trial. It was short but beautiful.
We had a 11 months baby with and I saw a gentelman around 80 years old walking too.
The weather was perfect end of December. We had lots of fun and enjoyed the nature. Have water and proper clothing to walk. Take your camer lots of opportunities to take pictures.

By 995annah |

this place is just beautiful. I had never seen so many palms -actually groves of them with a lovely stream on one side, and very craggy boulders on the other of the easy dirt path -you can hike, tun or stroll to your hearts content. some of the palms looked as tall as redwoods. A few picnic tables by the entrance It is on a reservation and the native ranger was really friendly and informative. We were planning on going to Joshua Tree but ended up staying longer in this oasis instead of the long drive. Maybe its because we were on vacation or that the weather was a perfect 73 degrees-but if I lived nearby I would be spending a whole lotta time here. very paeaceful.

By Eric K |

The trip to the Indian Canyons is very special. Driving in you appreciate the the desert landscape and how hard a life it would be to live there but once you get to the visitors center and look down into the Valley you can feel the uniqueness of this place. As you walk down into the canyon with its stream and palm trees you are struck by its beauty.

I can’t recommend a trip to this place enough.

By David J |

We come here most years when we visit and enjoy the walk through Palm Canyon and then back along the Victor trail which is a loop of about 3 miles. Take plenty of water as the Victor Trail is exposed but gives great views of Palm Canyon.
We then had done to Andreas and Murray Canyon to hike around there which gives a different perspective with the stream running through.
It is worth doing either the ranger talk (Monday to Thursday at 10am) or the ranger walk (Friday to Sunday at 10.30am).
Cost to get in is $9/person. I have seen some people complain about this but given we spent 3 1/2 hours here it is good value and pays for the excellent upkeep.
I’ve also seen it compared to San Jacinto and Joshua Tree both of which we also love. Each gives a very different experience so try all three rather than trying to compare them

By JCJOHNCONNOR |

First time here and throughly enjoyed it. Started off with the Murray trail about 1.6 km. Then did the canyon trail 4.6 km Great afternoon

One of the must see places in Palm Springs, great hiking, visit the gift shop, waterfalls, beautiful palm trees along the river,

By carlotaTravel4fun |

We arrived before the 8 o’clock opening and waited until they opened the gates. There were several cars in line by the time it opened. The person at entrance booth takes your money ($12 adults, $7 seniors and students, $6 children 6-12, military free with identification). It was a very warm day so we only did one hike and that was Palm Canyon. You follow the road staying to the left all the way to the end. The canyon is a very easy flat trail for the most part. The only place you could have an issue if you have mobility issues is the path down into the canyon and coming back out. It is not long and you can see the end of the descent from the gift shop in the parking area. To start down the trail, you can go down at the trail just behind the gift shop, or at the end of the parking lot where you came in is another trail down that joins the one from the gift shop. Once in the canyon it is flat and shaded by the palm trees that are the original palms in the area. The trail is 1 mile into a junction where you can continue on the Victor Trail which is a rim trail rated moderate with no shade, or the West or East Fork Trails which are rated strenuous. We turned around at the junction and headed back to the gift shop. The trail followed along a small creek and there were large flat rocks to cross over so it was dry getting to the other side. It was a very pleasant stroll through the palms and creek.

By Barb C |

This is a great loop hike among beautiful palm trees and a flowing stream. Pretty easy hike even for the novice. A bit of elevation in the 1 mile loop, and it requires a little bit of scrambling around rocks. But the trail is very well maintained, and there was never a time when I felt even remotely challenged. It is just a really nice nature walk, very enjoyable. The only negative was the long line of cars to get past the ticket booth at the entrance of Indian Canyons. Go mid morning or mid afternoon to avoid those lines.

By Steve Lewis |

The canyon is nearly at exit of palm spring town.

After paying a fee, you can park your car. Few hikes are available. Already in the canyon you benefit from an amazing view

The hike gives more perspective

By E M |

Loved Indian Canyon. My friend had been there before years ago so we drove up on a Monday morning and I was just amazed at the site. Hard to describe. We hiked into the Canyon and it was filled with birds and many water features. I would love to return and do more hiking when there is more time.

By neverenoughtime |

This is a must experience place. Have been traveling to PS my entire life and never visited Indian Canyons. What a spectacularly breathtaking location. Offering hikes for all activity levels, it’s a memorable place that we will be going back to again and again

By exploration822408 |

indian canyons is 3 separate canyon hikes is you do all 3. after paying at the entrance gate, we drove to the end of the road and did the hike there. there is a small shop and visitor center (that had a ranger there) restrooms , and sold snacks on the side of the building. (no restaurants) so bring a lunch with you. on the right side of the building, there is a short trail to a waterfall inside a rock . we did this first.

The main trail is just a short hike down into a valley that has a hidden treasure trove of palm trees. you could hang around here or hike for miles on the trail. we opted to just go in less than a mile and came back.

the second trail we hiked all the way to the end to the waterfall. this one was a bit tricky as you are required to cross a small stream several times. most the crossings had rocks or trees you could step on without getting your feet wet. but can easily slip so be cautious . this trail is 2 miles in and back so 4 miles total.

the last trail we did not have much time for so we just stuck to the areas by the parking lot. we enjoyed our visit here. and some day hope to return . the weather was on the cooler side so no snakes, or lizards .

By kinepeli |

What a great day trip! On the outskirts of Palm Springs, this offers a completely different view of the desert. Several different hikes to choose from, but even the shortest has a lot of places where rocks and slippery sand can cause some missed footsteps. Be sure to take water - even the short hike has a lot of completely exposed to sun time. Beautiful!!

By Raina57 |

I have been to Palm Springs for many years but this was the 1st time we took a friend to see it for the 1st time, we decided to take this hike, wow what a beautiful experience, we arrived at 9:30am so there was plenty of parking and the temperature to hike was perfect, it pretty rocky so I recommend good shoes, my friend wore white tennis shoes not a good look afterwards “ just saying “. But the hike was awesome ,we will come back maybe on horseback

By tom236 |

It is the place to stroll, walk, hike, or get in touch with nature in Palm Springs. My wife and I visit the Indian Canyons every December. There are adventures for every ability level and introduce someone to the outdoors.

By Shayf |

I loved our walk/hike at Palm Canyon and Andreas Canyon -- both were easy. Andreas Canyon is a 1-mile loop that you should not miss. It's so beautiful and the landscape is breath-taking.

By Susan S |

You do pay an entrance fee but it is good all day. We went in the morning and came back in the afternoon to try a different trail. Everything is immaculate: no candy wrappers or discarded bottles. Trails range from verdant to more desert-like. We went back a second day because we liked it so much. Our favorite trail was Andreas: the more verdant one.

By pam g |

Such a beautiful place to hike, picnic and just relax. The history of the Agua Caliente Indians come to life in this special place. The souvenir shop has many wonderful items to purchase. Also snacks for the hike on the trails. Spend a few hours or all day. You won't be sorry.

By A Reasonable Critic |

The park itself is not marked. In the hike we took, we saw 3 signs in 5.5 miles of our hike. The paths also merge in different locations causing us to go on the wrong hike all together. In addition, the paths were severely under-kept.

By t100baker |

My wife and I talked about going to Indian Canyons for a few years. We finally did. It was a wonderful hike on a pleasant day. I would recommend this to anyone.

By drizzleart |

Great hike, picnic lunch in a magical environment. I highly recommend a trip to the Indian Canyons, I am never disappointed with the time here, winter after a rain is awesome.

By bverbos |

Indian Canyons are located about 5 miles south of downtown Palm Springs. There is a $9 charge to enter which gives you access to 3 nice hikes and a gift shop. The featured hike is Palm Canyon and it is beautiful. The total hike is about 9 miles but the first 2 miles are the what is done by most visitors and are mostly in the shade of hundreds of palm trees. The other two hikes are also nice. If you have never experienced hiking through a grove of palms this will be a great experience for you.

By Ben H |

we arrived around 10.30 and it was getting very busy but still plenty of room to park , Maybe it was due to the much warmer weather than normal , first we went to Palm Canyon and did the Victor trail which takes you down through the palms and then up over the hills with great views below , good 1.5-2 hrs hike, once finished there we went to Andreas canyon where there is a pleasant 45 minute loop around trees and a stream, lovely place to spend a day hiking round

By Heather W |

For active seniors who want to experience a beautiful desert oasis, visit Indian Canyons and walk the Adreas Loop (1 mile). The trail follows along a creek bed and through breath taking palm trees. Eat your lunch at a picnic table and just listen to the silence. A camera is a must. This adventure was a highlight of our visit to Palm Springs and we will definitely return . Although the trail is not very long, we took our time, took pictures and enjoyed this wilderness for about 3 hours.

By Marcsmom |

Mid morning Friday. Great timing. Amazing and varied hiking. Some places a little scrambling but fairly easy. Take your time and enjoy!

By janina |

You can have a pleasant walk or can do a bigger hike, I’ve done both and loved it ever so much. Love the stone pools!

By Marty from Brisbane! |

great short or longer hikes. Takes you back to those cowboy and indian scenes from past movies and here you will be safe from ambush!

By Lepha |

Our family of 8 (six kids) started going to the canyons since 1967. Now our parents are gone, and we're the grandparents taking our grandkids and nieces and nephews and their families.

There are lots of great places with picnic tables to have a picnic. The little kids will need close supervision; our 4 year old great nephew kept running off. (Glad his grandfather was there to chase him down.)😄

Sometimes my husband and I go alone, grab a picnic table near the stream, have a picnic, and play Scrabble.

The porta potties are very clean and have nearly no smell!

Can't wait to go again.

By James A |

We were there first week of September on a Wednesday and it was closed, so check before you go that it is open. One of the guys there pointed us in the direction of 1000 Palms and that was amazing so not a complete loss

By jolianne01 |

We had such a beautiful day exploring the Canyons. Hiking options are easily customized depending on how frisky everyone is feeling. So tranquil, serene, beautiful, and sacred. Pristine majesty. The time you spend here will be unforgettable.

By REDMONDRIDGESUE |

Indian Canyons is up the hill from Palm Springs, and a world away. Like a national park, you pay at the entrance, and have 3 parking lots to choose from. Each parking lot has an easy, beautiful oasis hike available, along with harder hikes. We chose easy and beautiful, hiking Andrea, Murray, and Palm canyons, each around 2 miles. March, with the temperatures in the seventies, was perfection, with spring flowers and grasses. There are lovely picnic spots and respectable Sani-cans at the parking areas. Plan to spend the whole day! You need to leave by 5 p.m. And plan to wade through creeks. My hiking sandals did great.

By J P |

This was by far one of the coolest hikes I'd ever done!

However, I was disappointed to learn that they didn't open until 8 am. It gets very hot in Palm Springs so I tried to get there at 7 am to beat the heat of the day, but was turned away.
Despite having to start a bit later in the day, it was a great experience! The photos on here just can't do the trails justice.

I started at the Victor Trail at Palm Canyon and then did Andreas Canyon where there is some water falls. Both of the parking lots are very close to some of the most scenic areas of the hikes so if you can't walk far you can still enjoy the scenery!

Pack lots of water! And fair warning- you will see a ton of lizards, but they leave you alone.

By Nan |

Hike was great. But 106 degrees was too much HEAT!!. Off season would be good, but might be crowded, I would recommend this , but not in the summer

By Rocks_road |

We hiked the Andreas Canyon. It's an easy, short hike, about a mile loop. The first half follows the canyon and creek uphill though dense palms. The return is more in the open above the creek. Wear good shoes. It's beautiful.

By juliehn |

We had a nice walk, but several hikes are also possible, some that would take a full day and proper equipment. Plan ahead by chekcing on line prior to going. Slow, slow, slow entry via single entry kiosk.

By Evergreen101 |

We visited Indian Canyons at the end of June. It was about 105 degrees at the about 1pm. Our teenage boys had no problem with the heat. The hike was beautiful but we probably should waited until 4pm or 5pm to hike.

By Deanne A |

So well worth going to!!! It’s $9 to get in and feels impossible to see it all in a day. I hiked the Palm Canyon trail to junction with the Victor Trail and hiked along the Victor trail back to my car. About 4 miles (less I think except I did a few off shoots at the water for a bit before returning to trail, and it took me about 1.75 hours. Amazingly beautiful!!

By Sue |

If you like to hike, you need to go to Indian Canyons. There are many trails. We went on Andreas and Palm Canyon trails. We loved the water oasis and the rock formations. Beautiful area!

By CJK38 |

We hiked both Andreas Canyon and Murray Canyon. The first one is an easy one, great for young kids. Murray Canyon is much longer and you have to navigate the groups on horses every once in a while, but well worth it. The waterfall was dry (we were warned this would be the case), but discovered an amazing cave with water streaming down, simply magical.

By The Pez Guy |

If you go, go when they first open. The parking lot and trails become impossibly crowded after 10 AM. These are magical places where for a while you can experience what the Coachella Valley was like before its overdevelopment. In winter the upper canyon can be chilly. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes.

By Jennifer H |

We loved the oasis. It was not something I had seen before and my son loved running around the rocks near the water. It was cool and shaded. We only had time for the Andreas canyon trail. Signage could have been better and I thought the entrance fee was pretty pricey for a park, but it was worth it.

By PJZimm |

We visited this site on our last day in the area and would have returned, if we had more time. It's a short descent to Palm Canyon from the visitors center and you are transported from the rocky mountainous desert to a lush. colorful oasis, shaded by numerous trees. We enjoyed a short walk to the other trail heads on flat terrain and could appreciate the rocks, surrounding desert and the ample vegetation along the trail.

The Andreas trail, as you enter, has another palm oasis and a flat loop trail that did not look too strenuous.

Many hiking paths in he area, but hard to try think of any as impressive .

By PhotoDudeIII |

It gets a little confusing with all the canyons in the Palm Springs area, but the Andreas Canyon is part of a group of canyons known collectively as the Indian Canyons. The Andreas Canyon Trail is the easiest and shortest of the trails. And the first half is in a lot of shade. The Andreas Canyon trail follows a creek that has allowed a lot of large palm trees to grow, hence the shade. And while the trail is “easy”, it is not recommended at all for those with mobility issues - this isn’t a paved walkway!
Go in the morning as Palm Springs gets hot hot hot! And bring water.

Great place. Beautiful & scenic. Trails maintained well. Very clean. Saw bighorn sheep. Weather was great. Palm trees provide shaded areas & many places to picnic. Plan on going back to hike other trails and the up to the waterfall. Restrooms available. 3 canyons total. Andreas, Murray & Palm. We hiked palm canyon. Plenty of parking. Trading post with native American items & nice little snack stand that sells cold drinks, and treats, etc. We did run into one rattlesnake on the trail, so just be aware. Highly recommend! Great place! Absolutely gorgeous & unique!

Palm, after palm, after palm, in all shapes and sizes line the Palm Canyon hiking trail. This is only one of numerous trails in the Indian Canyons preserve. I wish we had the time, and stamina, to try more but I am glad we chose this one. It is listed at 15 miles, but you can obviously turn around at any time, which we did, or take some other trails that intersect with it. The trail follows a creek and is easy to traverse. If I lived in Palm Springs, I could see myself checking out the numerous trails at the 3 canyon options that make up the Indian Canyons. Check them out!

We spent an afternoon at Indian Canyons and found just what we wanted: easy hikes, enormous palms along flowing streams, perfect picture- taking spots. We are in our 70's, and Indian Canyons was a great place for one of us to sit and enjoy the desert while the other took the hikes and the photos. We started at the Trading Post site and drove back (near the entrance) to Andreas Canyon. Clearly, however, there is more serious hiking available for those who wish. This is a spot for all ages (children were having lots of fun) and all fitness levels. My only complaint was that, for the first-timer, the brochure wasn't very helpful. Suggested hikes for different levels would be good. And, the driving signage was too small. Fortunately, the Trading Post staff and a ranger gave us the info we needed.

By Evelina62 |

These canyons were the actual home of Cahuilla Indians. Once you pay and park, there are three different hikes you can take. We opted for the shortest and easiest one, Murray Canyon. You MUST have lots of water on these hikes to survive. Partway through our hike, a long line of equestrians came through and we had to move over and let them pass. The hike does end at a river. Before you begin the hike, there is a shaded, treed area with benches where you can sit and eat - that's the only shade there is!

Incredible scenery; go back in time to Palm Canyon, Andreas and Murray Canyons; take a big or little hike; investigate the Trading Post; wonder whether you can make it under the arched rock; ride your bike; take in the Palm oasis; listen to the gurgling stream....just hang out awhile and enjoy this most unusual ambience.

Indian Canyons has various hiking trails to fit your level of difficulty! Beautiful scenery and wonderful hiking experiences. Our particular group had seniors and youth and all were able to complete the hike in great shape. The beautiful scenery makes the Indian Canyons a perfect place to hike and connect with nature!

By Thomas K |

Indian Canyons are a great way to experience nature around Palm Springs. The main canyon with its majestic palm trees, babbling stream, and beautiful flowers (this year) is a magical interlude to the glitz of Palm Springs.

You do not need any special gear to get into the canyon. Once there you can simply walk among the palms. For the more adventurous there are hikes you can take.

As a bonus, military including retirees are free.

By 902rayt |

Loved the whole area. Best when there is water flowing at the falls. You can hike down into the palms, then up along the ridge and back down again.

By lifeat5280 |

There are three canyons, but we had time to hike only one of them. We chose Palm Canyon, which was unlike any hike we've ever taken. A beautiful palm filled canyon in the desert. Wow! Not to be missed!

By Chicago999 |

We started out at Murray Canyon but the creek was running high and not all in my party were comfortable crossing. There are sixteen places to cross. Sticks, waterproof shoes, good balance and nimble feet would be a must.

We switched to Fern Canyon and it was fantastic. It’s a moderate hike with some elevation gains and narrow path in places. But the views are stunning. We saw small ferns along the way but after a couple of hours of walking we turned around before finding the supposed ledge. No matter.

The discourteous gate agent is unapologetic and there was a short line of cars that took about fifteen minutes to get through. My advice is to disregard that aspect as the hikes are worth it.

Trails are well trodden and well marked.

Andreas Canyon is a lovely one hour loop hike that's mostly shaded. It's home to the world’s second-largest California Fan Palm oasis. We all loved it so much. We went early in the morning (around 9:30am in April) which was perfect. Cost was $12 per adult which we paid at the ranger station. They accepted a credit card. Great for kids. Love seeing all this water in the desert.Just watch for rattle snakes. We didn't see any but other hikers told us they had seen one. I would go again. It really was so amazing

By Michael B |

What beautiful scenery - it really takes you by surprise. You take these roads out into the desert and next thing you know, you're in this palm grove. Well worth trekking out on a few of the hikes here.

By Ailton007 |

$9 to get in. Easy to spend all day here either starting from Trading Post parking lot or opposite direction where Andreas Canyon, Coffman trail are. Options from moderate 30 min to strenuous hour long hikes, great views all along and spotted big Horn sheep as well. Plenty of rest areas and ok to bring food. Drink lots of water.

After being closed for a month following the Valentine's Day floods, Indian Canyons is open again.

We hiked the Murray Canyon trail 3/15. Pretty easy trail for the first part, but be prepared to get your feet wet. Many river crossings, some with logs for crossing. Most of them, you just walk across the stream --- water was almost up to our knees in some parts. Keen Sandals worked fine, and water was refreshing.

The last 1/2 mile of the trail had a lot of debris from the floods and in some places it was hard to see where the trail continued (Rangers say they will be working on that, and may have to make some changes to the trail in that area).

We had to stop short just shy of the very end, because we were worried that we wouldn't be able to make it back to our car by closing time 5pm. (because of the flood damage it took us a bit longer than expected)

*When you get to the large waterfall with the slab over it, the trail continues on the LEFT side, up the hill over the waterfall top. Not easy to see that part of the trail, but a few people were coming down, and that's how we found it.

Suggest that you start in the morning - wear water shoes, sunscreen, hat, bring lots of water. Hiking sticks came in handy for the water crossings.

Great experience. Such a unique place. So peaceful, nice and cool down in the palm canyons (compared to heat up above).
Highly recommended

By Sally B |

Really beautiful area. We went early and Andreas Canyon, which is an easy loop. Really pretty and very easy to get to from downtown Palm Springs. Next time we are going to come back and go to Murray Canyon. I had no idea until the pandemic how many great hiking trails the Palm Springs area has.

By P44cka |

A must do when visiting Palm Desert, travel there as early as possible as it gets really hot after midday, take plenty of water and you will find the staff really helpful and informative.

By larsthorwald |

We've been going to Indian Canyons for years. Costs about $10/person to get in and they have a snack bar and souvenir shop, port-o-potty bathrooms. BUT young and old love it! It was especially nice with the abundant rains this winter in California.

By Mark O |

Totally worth it. We took the easy hike into the native palm oasis. A spring fed stream sustains these palms. The gift shop at the beginning of the hike is worth a visit, too. The park docent was super informative and friendly. There are many other long trails to hike, as well. I highly recommend this area, as way to "escape" the PS city.

By Joelena E |

So many wonderful things to see here! Desert with oasis of palm trees that tower far above! Don't miss this hike.

By BarbaraBetty |

We were looking for something to do our last afternoon in the area, and I saw a brochure about this place. We didn't have much time to spend here, but we absolutely loved it! Because of time constraints (they have a very strict policy about being out of the gate by 5 pm), we went on the shortest trail near the entrance. It was gorgeous. My daughter and I both enjoy photography and got some wonderful photos. We had extra time so we drove up to the Trading Post. Unfortunately, they close at 4:30 pm, which was just about when we got there, so we were not able to go in. I would highly recommend this place to anyone anywhere near Palm Springs.

By Indyblonde |

This is a very interesting tour - thousands of palm trees lining the small creek - which is probably a huge creek when it rains. You can see how the Native Americans found it to be a great place to live. It would be shady almost all day long even in the hottest weather.

By gr8ful4222 |

This is an impressive place with fun hiking trails, very close to Palm Springs. The two oases we saw here were much larger than the ones we saw on hikes at Joshua Tree National Park, plus at Indian Canyons you’re allowed to actually walk into the oases.

Our first hike was Andreas Canyon trail, which is a beautiful and easy 1 mile loop, suitable for kids. Half of the trail is along the Andreas creek under the shady palms, and the return is along a ridge looking down on the oasis. Lots of interesting plants and rock formations along this hike.

Next we hiked Murray Canyon trail, which is about 4 miles out and back with 500 ft. of elevation change. This is a pretty and fun hike, mostly because it follows Murray Canyon Creek most of the way. The trail is rocky rather than flat, and I counted 15 stream crossings, some by log and some that we handled by hopping across rocks. In the last ¼ mile there’s a very steep rocky section to climb (see picture), but it’s very short and not that difficult. Kids could hike this trail, but they might need help in some places. The trail supposedly ends at the 12-foot Seven Sisters waterfall, but there wasn’t much to see of it really- this hike is more about enjoying the creek.

We visited on a Wednesday in February, and didn’t see any issues with parking. There are picnic tables, but no running water, and the only bathrooms are porta potties. The one I used was quite a mess, otherwise I would rate this 5 stars.

My wife and I have discovered that within a few miles of the casinos, restaurants and shopping of the city of Palm Springs lies another world of beauty and tranquility.
We feel that anyone visiting the Coachella Valley, especially for the first time, should experience this world that is right at their doorstep. The miracle of the Coachella Valley is that it is surrounded by high mountain ranges capturing moisture in their snow capped peaks and creating a desert in it’s wake. Cracks in the San Andreas fault allows
underground water to well up in streams and ponds in certain locales creating a profusion of native palm oases and wildlife. The subduction of tectonic plates in this region cause the most rapid vertical lift of any mountain range in North America. All of this magnificence is apparent when you visit Indian Canyons and why it is one of our favourite places in the area.
There are many trails available for a reasonable entrance fee and several are easy and fun, not only for experienced hikers but also for beginners or those not accustomed to hiking at all.
We would suggest seeing Andreas Canyon first as an introduction to this region, especially if you don’t have a lot of time or are not in good shape. It is a short 1 mile loop easily completed in less than an hour. At first you hike along a dense palm forest through which a stream runs with lots of birds and other vegetation. You can see how the mountains were formed with some rapid vertical lifts of the canyon walls, some at weird angles from subduction of tectonic plates.
On the way back you go along a ridge in a more desert like terrain with nice views of the valley and wind mills in the distance. In the same area is a hike through Murray Canyon, a longer hike that takes us about 3-4 hours round trip with stops. First you hike through a wash but eventuallly you reach the canyon where you hike up a palm forest surrounding a stream that we had to cross 13 times until you arrive at a series of small waterfalls. Hiking poles were helpful in keeping us steady on the rocky crossings. There is a bit of a short rock scramble at one point that should be manageable for most people. At the end you find a series of small waterfalls. You come back the same way. A great hike on a hot day- all in the shade except for the short part in the beginning and end. Finally, we enjoy another trail further up the road by the Trading Post. After you park your car, if you are interested, there is a short walk behind the Trading Post to a nice waterfall. Then you can descend onto The Palm Canyon Trail that traverses another stream, After about an about an hour another trail (Victor Trail) goes off to the left and ascends into the desert along a high ridge and loops back to your starting point. Here you see desert terrain with cacti, scrub and magnifecent vistas. We even saw 2 mountain sheep during our last hike. This hike usually takes us a 2-3 hours with stops for a picnic.
There are also many longer trails for those who are more venturesome.
There usually are park rangers who can give you information about hiking in the region and you will be given trail maps when you enter the reserve and pay the entrance fee.
Bring plenty of water, especially on a hot day. Enjoy!

While it can get busy, go early and enjoy the Andreas Canyon walk. We loved the trails throughout the park.

By Samcat79 |

I enjoyed my time at the Indian Canyons. I saw two rattlesnakes on my hike which was a little freaky but they're afraid of people so just wait for them to move! I definitely recommend doing the trails and checking it all out.

By Lovena F |

Great place to hike with gift shop for snacks. Beautiful oasis to hike down to. If bathrooms were better I would have given it 5 stars.

By Naptime17 |

We enjoyed a hike of about 3/4 of a mile from the visitors center through most of the palm oasis with my parents (in their seventies) and our two teens.

The path winds through stands of tall palms, most with flat sandy paths underneath. A small stream meanders along the path. There were portions with more challenging, rocky footings towards the end of our hike.

The views along the path feel alien at times as the dry, rocky hills above the canyon are contrasted with the lush green of the oasis. There are some portions which feel like a dinosaur could walk through the palms for a drink of water at any moment.

The final portion of the drive to the visitor center parking lot is very narrow. We drove a Ford Expedition and the portion which passes between two rocks was pretty tight. Arrive early as parking is limited.

By Robert D |

We had no idea that Palm Springs had this beautiful hiking area that’s tucked away with a canyon. You don’t hike up the mountains, instead you hike down to this little oasis. There is enough area that you could be hiking for at least an hour one way depending on how fit and fast you are. It feels like your somewhere else. Very cool getaway.

By PaulaCochrane |

Very interesting and scenic. Easy to get to. Wear good walking shoes and take water. Not recommended for a very hot day.

By BuckMachete |

This was perfect for a family half day adventure. We chose an easy 1 mile hike that is half in the shade and half in a more desert climate. The trail follows the river so you cool off if it’s too hot. We had an 8 year old with us and he wanted to keep going for more! If you go to the top, they have a gift shop and bathrooms. The road has this one spot that requires you to drive through a rock in the road.

This is perfect for a half day hike if you only have limited amount of time or just want something quick before it gets too hot!

By Sweeton C |

Pricy for the privilege to just walk one trail, others were closed. Walk is nicely in the shade of the palm trees along the canyon, cool even in the heat of the day.

By gr8fish2017 |

I stopped here on the way from LA to PHX and it was short hike in a cool(er) oasis in the dessert. Plenty of parking, go in the cooler months of the year.

By fun2travel68 |

We almost liked the trails at Indian Canyons more than Joshua Tree National Park because they're much less crowded. Lots of boulders and rocky terrain plus babbling brooks and desert wildflowers all contribute to a feeling of paradise. Remember to bring water and wear a hat. Hiking shoes and poles are super helpful. We truly enjoyed the quintessential desert experience here!

By kistlerb |

There's a fee to get in (per person) but not very expensive. We hike in all 3 canyons. Lots of wild, tall palm trees and a creek in every canyon. Hikes were pretty easy.

By Dixit K |

Went there with trip advisor recommendations but was still leery about the hike and experience. Kid (11-12 yrs old) loved it. Easily spent an afternoon. Definitely do the Andreas Trail and then drive to the Trading post.

By JamesMacLean |

I generally avoid guided tours, but was very happy to have gone on a short ranger-guided walk in Indian Canyons. Until that walk, I hadn't realized that palm trees actually belong to the grass family. After the tour, we went on a very pleasant hike through the palm groves in the canyon.

By Claudia10229 |

Wonderful hiking area with a variety of paths to take. Some were fairly easy with great views of palms and others were longer but still enjoyable with canyon and palm trees. Lots of picnic tables available, some in the sun and some in the shade of the palm trees. Even tables near running streams in October. We went twice during our week stay in Palm Springs. October was still over 90 degrees, but cool temperatures in many locations due to rock canyons and palm tree shade.

Park doesn't open until 8am. Read their website on available ranger led hikes and ranger led discussions, times depend on summer/winter.

Andreas Canyon: lots of parking, keep driving to find all of the place since there are 4 different areas. The actual Andreas loop can start on either end: one is up a mountain and the other starting point is through the palm trees and stream area.

Murray Canyon: park in the last large parking area where Andreas hiking area is, otherwise you will walk extra to get to the tail head. Hike starts in the hot desert area but then goes into canyons which are cooler due to rocks and palm trees. Fairly good signage except one area where you scramble up rocks close to the end of the hike.

Palm Canyon: Lots of parking and the Trading Post is also here. Trading Post sells snack items and water at reasonable price. The hike down into the Palm Canyon is steep and rocky, down is easy but you will need to come up too!! The walk in the palms is incredible and you can go as long as you wish. or connect to Victor trail or other trails.

I would return again to hike in this area. We took lots of water, hiked once in morning, came back to car and enjoyed picnic lunch. then another hike in afternoon.

By Gastropod |

We have just spent a day enjoying exploring the hidden canyons and desert pathways at Indian Canyons. No words can be adequate to describe the breath taking beauty of the waterside areas amongst the tall palms. I wonder if this area is how Palm Springs came to be named?

We did two "easy" trails. First the Victor trail in Palm Canyon and then the easier two mile Andreas trail in Andreas Canyon. As we walked, around every bend was another "Wow!" vista. It is certainly one of our most memorable days walking ever.

The whole area is on Indian owned land. I am told that the term "Indian" is preferred to Native American in these parts. It is the ancestral home to the Agua Caliente people who are part of the Cahuilla tribe.

The trails were well signposted but were not always easy to negotiate. Some were steep, narrow and rocky. It was worth it for the views though.

One minor gripe was the amount of time that we had to queue up at the entrance to the whole area. A modest entrance fee is charged but many visitors were paying by credit card. The card machine was very slow so the throughput at the entrance gate was at a snail pace. It would have been far better to have two entrances, one for those paying cash (quick) and another for those who wish to delay everybody by paying by card.

All in all, it is a definite place to visit again, next time we are at Palm Springs.

By Kristiesue |

Loved seeing the old, natural palm trees and hiking along the little creek. Lots of options for all levels.

By Christine R |

I'm glad I made the drive from 29 Palms. My phone's camera did not take a break. The scenery is just beautiful.

By org17 |

Had a couple of beautiful short hikes here. The Andreas trail is short, easy and beautiful with the water and the vegetation right in the middle of the desert. And the Palm trail is a 5-minute walk to a gorgeous waterfall. Well worth the visit.

By Joseph |

My Wife and I hiked up the Indian Canyon. The View from a top was BREATHTAKING. There's plenty of shaded parts surrounded by big leafy Palms to rest. there's a stream of clear water flowing for a big part of the trail which adds a relaxing touch to the hike and of course adds tons to your pictures...!
We washed our faces and dipped our feet in the water.
Gosh. What an experience!

A great, yet busy, spot for hiking and exploring the desrt and oasis areas in Palm Springs. The main oasis area os very busy, yet if one continues to hike onward peace and tranquility quick abide. Just keep walking and no disappointment will occur.

By carney33 |

The drive to the canyons gate from Palm Springs was only about 20 minutes. Once you pay the entrance fee, there’s another 10-15 minute ride thru the reservation to get to the first hike. We took the mile loop at Andreas Canyon which was fairly easy (some steps and tricky parts on rocks), and it was beautiful. A great way to spend half a day.

By Robby G C |

We starting hiking at 6 P.M.

This hike was way easy and we enjoyed the views we saw.

There were lots of palm trees and Oasis.

We saw several waterfalls.

We saw a palm tree as high as the mountain.

We saw also cacti and I certainly liked that!

I liked the mountains as well.

A must see! I certainly enjoyed that hike!

By caifan86 |

The visit to Indian Canyons was one of the highlights of our Palm Springs trip. It includes three different canyons - Palm, Andreas and Murray, and each canyon has multiple trails to choose from. If you want to join ranger-led hikes (included in the admission), come on Friday through Sunday. We joined a ranger for the Palm Canyon trail and learned mainly about plants that were useful to the Cahuilla Indians. This trail, or at least the short loop that we took, is fairly well shaded. I wish we'd brought a towel to dry our feet after crossing the creek; we did find a spot to cross over rocks on our way back but it was not for everyone.

By Jamie Darling |

Great hike! We started around 11 and took us around the 2 hours the maps predicted (4 miles). My sister and I are both used to walking long distances but not crazy avid hikers or anything and we thought it was a perfect level. Most of the path is clearly laid out and a good portion of it was in the shade. There are trail signs every half or quarter mile in case you second guess if you are going the correct way. The trail is mostly dirt with a few logs to use to cross the river and some rocks to climb over other times. I suggest shoes that can get dirty (not nice running shoes) because the trail is also used for horses so the dirt is lose and dusty. The only problem we had was probably our own fault. We went the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend and the line to get into Indian Canyons was crazy long. We sat almost and hour in our car just to get in. We will do this hike again some other time not on a holiday weekend and hopefully will be much faster!

By krobbins11 |

Have you ever seen so many palm tress? We walked through Palm Canyon and San Andreas, both easy walks, and soaked in the beauty of the streams and palms. A great place to relax or meditate.

By 91302Travel |

Bring more water than you think you need. Hiking poles were helpful when crossing the water. Mid-week was not busy.

By Michellereneelove |

We were reluctant to go because of the cost, there are many places to hike in the area at no cost. But the terrain was easy and the views were spectacular!

Tips: If you have students in your group, they must have their IDs to get the substantial discount. Pack a lunch, but then get an inexpensive snack at the gift shop. Also, the gift shop has very reasonably price souvenirs.

Indian Canyons is a place of interest, beautiful scenery, and hiking. There are picnic tables so you can bring your lunch. A break from the shops and restaurants in Palm Springs !

By Jane L |

Indian Canyons is just a few minutes south of downtown Palm Springs and includes several hikes of different difficulty. The Andreas Canyon hike along the Andreas Creek oasis is beautiful. Highly recommended!

By ykw818 |

Absolutely gorgeous view of an oasis in the middle of a desert. We hiked the Andreas Canyon and Murray Canyon trails, while briefly seeing the Palm Canyon trail. All of the waterfalls were dry since we went in November. The Murray Canyon trails were full of horse poop since the trail was shared by horses and humans. While some parts separate foot traffic from horse traffic, that's not the case in most of the trail. That's why I took off a star. The park rangers were extremely friendly and helpful. They know the park well.
Pro tip: The ticket booth for Indian Canyons is 38520 S. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs. If you want to hike Tahquitz Canyon, the ticket sales is at the Agua Caliente visitor center and that's a separate entrance fee.

By RudySzymon |

I walked Palm Canyon and Andreas canyon, unfortunately rain intensified and I did not walk Murray canyon. Views are great the jungle like effect of palms growing in the canyons are so surprising compare to desert around them. It is certainly worth the $9 admission.

I visited on a Monday in June, the day after I ran a marathon, while there was an excessive heat warning and 103 degree temps after lunch. It's the day I was in Palm Springs, so I carried on with plenty of water. Entry fee was $12, and the woman at the gate actually asked me if I had water. Sure do! I drove about 2 slow miles to Palm Canyon first, which includes driving between 2 large boulders. My compact rental fit through fine. I arrived at Palm Canyon.... SO. MANY. PALMSSSSSSSSSS! It was amazing. I had the entire place to myself, which was only a bummer when there was literally no one to take a picture of me with the curvy palm tree. A tripod might be a wise little investment for me. Anyway, then I drove over to Andreas Canyon Trailhead for that 1 mile loop. Parking was easy at both locations, because it was incredibly hot and everyone was probably in AC somewhere. The loop on the right side of the stream has a ton of palm trees and shade, but the other side coming back is farther from the stream, no shade, no palm trees, lots of sun. It's also not super obvious to follow the trail, but it's mostly straight out, over the stream, and straight back, so keep that in mind and you'll be fine.

By AJM0514 |

We took the path with the Palm Trees behind the visitor center and it was amazing - one of the most unique and interesting hikes that we have done.

By ADolores |

Indian Canyons is a great place to walk, hike, or just enjoy the scenery. We ventured out there on a recent day when the temperature was in the 90s. We did not stay very long but we will return.

By lingette |

We went for a 2 hour hike in Palm Canyon today and it was great amongst the palm trees! Everything was excellent except for the attendant at the gate when we arrived. She was very condescending and not welcoming at all! Not sure why they hire people like her to face the public. Highly recommend this place though! Great spot to spend an afternoon.

By Denise M |

We hiked the Victor trail/Palm Canyon loop. the Victor trail is an uphill walk with nice views of the canyon. Sunny and rocky but moderate hike. When we came down to the Palm Canyon it was a refreshing walk in the shade among palm trees and a water source. Lovely way to end the hike.

By Alecia H |

This was amazing hiked there for 2 days. Andrea's trail is the easiest. And a great place to kediated

By TravelProNY |

Just 10 minuted derive from town takes you to a different world. It fits the name of Palm Springs. Spent about 2 hours for easy hiking on Palm Trail. It was very nice to hike along palm trees in the desert mountains. You could spend all day for various trails.

By sritz90 |

Have to pay a few bucks to go in but we felt it was worth it. We have only been on two hikes so far and plain to do more. Our favorite is the Andreas canyon. It's a short hike that loops back around. For half the hike you have cool rock formations and on the other side of you a stream. That side of the hike is mostly shaded. The other half of the hike is all open land but just as nice with nice views. At the end/beginning we had a nice picnic next to the stream. Would definitely recommend this hike. The other hike was really cool as well. I forget the name but it is right next to the trading post. It has lots and I mean lots of palm trees you walk underneath and a stream on the side of you for aways. On the way to and from the trading post you pass through a split rock in your car. We loved the whole experience and will definitely be back.

By jspphoenix |

We drove in, paid the senior fee and not sure what to expect. First we went to Palm Canyon, real curvy entrance road, it was neat going through the boulder. The trading post has a short menu but the food was perfect for a snack. A hiker was coming out of the Palm Trail, said it took 4 hours. We then went to the Andreas Canyon, the rocks are fabulous as they pierced through the hound, on a 45-ish degree angle. So glad it’s tribal land and we can all enjoy the beauty!

By Kat O |

Our hike in Palm Canyon/Victor Loop was perfect for our time and difficulty requirements. First, we stopped at the gate and paid the entrance fee. We arrived (around 9 AM on a Monday) at the trailhead next to the Trading Post Gift Shop and found easy parking. (Note: When we returned to our car at the end of our hike, the parking lot was full, though there was a dirt overflow parking area nearby.) The first half of the hike follows the canyon stream under a canopy of large palms. Though a bit cool this time of year, it was lovely. At one point, we spotted several Bighorn sheep resting high up on the hillside! At the Victor Loop intersection, we headed up the hill and hiked through a dry, rocky, shadeless desert environment. At the top of the ridge, we had a magnificent view of the mountains in all directions and the valley floor off in the distance. As we continued to hike, we again spotted the sheep walking to the top of the ridge. We enjoyed watching them up close but at a safe distance so as not to disturb them. Fun to see them in their natural environment. They blend in with their surroundings so look carefully for them. Our hike ended back at the parking lot. Our group of four all agreed that this was a perfect trail for us older hikers.

By Adrimatthews |

For me this is my type of terrain, very dry, sunny with lots of rocks and palm trees. We worked up a sweat but felt great knowing we had a pool and cocktails to go back to. Well worth the visit.

By sc00tert00ter |

The area is managed and owned by the Aqua Caliente tribe. The trails are well marked, and the scenery is beautiful. The snack bar had packaged and hot food.

We came here on a Sunday morning in March. It was a beautiful day and the hiking was fantastic. We did the Murray canyon hike to the waterfall and part of the Palm hike. All in all, we did over 6 miles of hiking. The Murray trail had a lot of crossing back and forth over a stream so if you don’t feel comfortable doing that, it is not the trail for you. The palms are beautiful and the trail was fun. The Palm trail was a sharp decline to get down to it but it was a short decline and then mostly flat at least where we were. I wish we could have spent more time there and gone further on the trails but we sadly had other things to get to. When we left around 1pm, there was a line of 30 cars to get in so come early. Entry is $12 per person unfortunately but well worth it.

Lots of hiking choices! Palm trees, running water and beautiful views. We loved this area to hike and enjoy the scenery. The 'Andreas' was our favorite trail, but we will go back to do more. Much prefer over Tahquitz Canyon. Highly recommend!

A must see when visiting Palm Springs. Short drive from wherever you're staying. The entrance fees are very reasonable and there are several trails you may take. The best time to visit is in the cooler months like Winter. That said dress in layers and take plenty of water. There are picnic areas so pack a lunch and spend the day... Absolutely beautiful surroundings.

This place is pretty amazing! We drove in and paid the $12 per person to get in to the park. Once on the trails the environment was amazing! It seemed like an oasis in the middle of nowhere. It was cool to drive in and be able to see the stream running and palm trees lining the creek’s shoreline. We learned there are a multitude of different trails, varying in levels of difficulty. We did a shorter loop and only did about 3 miles with different difficulty levels. Just a breathtaking amazing change to the typical landscape of the area.

We come here on every Palm Springs trip. It’s the perfect reminder of why we love the area and just incredible natural beauty. A true hidden gem, especially next to places like Joshua tree, with hikes for all abilities.

Indian Canyons is a stunning natural park located just outside of Palm Springs, California. It features beautiful canyons, unique rock formations, and lush vegetation, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and hikers.

One of the highlights of Indian Canyons is the Palm Canyon Trail, a 15-mile loop that takes visitors through the heart of the park. Along the way, you'll see towering palm trees, sparkling streams, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to follow even for novice hikers.

Another must-see attraction in Indian Canyons is the Andreas Canyon Trail. This trail is shorter than the Palm Canyon Trail, but it still offers stunning scenery and beautiful views of the canyon. The trail follows a stream that runs through the canyon, and there are several small waterfalls and pools along the way. The lush vegetation and towering palm trees create a serene and peaceful atmosphere, making it a great place to relax and take in the natural beauty of the park.

The park also offers guided tours, including jeep tours and hiking tours, which are a great way to learn more about the park's history and ecology. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate about the park, and they provide a wealth of information about the plants, animals, and geology of the area.

We went to Indian canyon on New Year’s Day for a hike . It was the perfect temp to walk in January. The guides at the park were very helpful in giving Information about the trails . They have a little gift shop with water and snacks and picnic tables. The trails were all levels and very pretty with palm trees and rock formations and streams . Very nice to do on a visit to Palm Springs ! Bring lots of water, and a hat !

We arrived a bit late in the afternoon so could only drive around to late to hike. But it was truly beautiful walked down to the Palm covered springs wow is that why it's call Palm Springs. Never new that. We did go to all the look out amazing and a quick walk to a waterfall the rock formations took my breath away.

No place gives you more of a feeling of being in Palm Springs than the Indian Canyons. Running springs, year round, and canyons that once housed the local Agua Caliente Native American families. Besides beautiful views, cool shade in summer and bright sun in winter. We bring every single visitor to the canyons to show off its magic. Heck, we were even married here next to our favorite cactus alter.

Best Desert Oasis in the Valley! Tribal park on Historic lands of Caluilla. Cool waters run the course of the hike to keep you cool. Palms line the stream. Beautiful!

There is a fee to get into Indian Canyons but don't let that stop you. The place is beautiful and offers hikes for all fitness levels. My wife, grown daughter and I hiked the Murray Canyon and Andeas Canyon trails. Parking for those two is in a lovely cool oasis by a stream. The area is very clean, including the port-o-johns, and the workers are very friendly and happy to answer any questions. Murray is an in-and-out moderately rated hike of about 6 miles. It begins through a stark open area (dress appropriately and bring plenty of water) but as you clear a bend you are greeted by an oasis partially submerged in the desert (be aware of the weather as you're entering a flash flood zone). The rest of the hike follows in, on and around the canyon. It is quite beautiful; you half expect the roar of a dinosaur. Parts of the hike were tricky for a middle aged decrepid man like me (yet doable) but if you're short on time or ability, the initial part of the hike to the oasis is pretty easy. Later we followed the 2 mile Andreas Canyon Loop. It is a fairly easy loop that follows the stream by the parking lot. It goes up one side, crosses a foot bridge then goes down the other. There is some shade by the "low" side; the "high" side is much more open. There are alot places on both trails to explore and enjoy.
Later we drove to the trading post. Split Rock makes a narrow passage for a car, make sure yours fits! Palm Canyon trail leads from the trading post down a steep path into a huge oasis. It was later in the day by then so intead of hiking, we contented ourselves with the fantastic view. Indian Canyons is beautiful and otherworldly and not to be missed.

Very fun hiking very close to town. Three different canyons offer similar yet different scenery. Saw bighorn sheep and lots of birds.

By drillerboy |

We have done a lot of free hiking in the Palm Springs area but we have returned to the Indian Canyons several times and feel like we got our money's worth.

By Jaroslaw S |

I have been going to Indian Canyons for over 10 years, and did probably every hiking trail that there is.
Gradually it has become worse and worse experience due to bad attitude and bad service, which adversely affects the experience of this beautiful place

Expensive. For family of 4, including 2 teenagers you pay $36 for day use, unless you have Student ID for the kids, then you get $2 off. Who carries school ID for the kids on a weekend hike????
The line to get in can be over 30 minutes on the weekend, and the attendant is not in the hurry- "it is a high season "- I've heard - it is NOT a high season

If you are in Palm Springs for just a few days, visiting from far away , and the season is right- which means the streams are running and flowers are blooming-
AND you don't mind putting up with bad service - and steep prices-
by any means, please go and visit.
It is probably the best place to see and amazing palm oasis in the area in relatively short time, just outside of town.

If you have time to do your homework- save yourself the annoyance and money, places equally beautiful are plentiful in the area of greater Palm Springs , and free to see, uncrowded, all you have to do is find them!

Wonderful hiking trails in rough terrain. A must see when visiting Palm Springs. The Andreas loop is breathtaking with its palm trees and river.

By mareecass23 |

We spent 4-5 hours roaming around the Indian Canyons and just loved the environment - fabulous walking trails, scenery, and views. Well worth the visit and will certainly go again if we are in the area!

By TesaVan |

This was our third visit to the area, but first to Indian Canyons. I did a fair amount of reading beforehand to plan our visit. We decided to start with the Andreas Trail which had great reviews. It was beautiful! It’s so unexpected to see this palm oasis in the middle of a burden desert. Easy hike and worth it. Then we drove up the Palm Canyon by the trading post where we met “Beep” the roadrunner that eats out of the Ranger’s hand. We did a short hike down to the Palm Canyon which should not be missed. Take a picnic lunch or snack and enjoy the tranquility and birds. This is a must do for those who enjoy the outdoors - or want epic photos. It’s up there with Joshua Tree.

Tip: the visitors center pit toilets were disgusting and full. I would recommmend if you hike Palm Canyon, use the pit toilets down in the oasis (just downhill from trading post) - probably less traffic and maybe better.

By Liz T |

What a gorgeous hike. I only had an hour so I was advised to do the Andreas Canyon hike which was a beautiful loop through the oasis and up to a stunning view of the mountains.

By work2travel10 |

An unexpected experience with this hike. When approaching the park it looks like dry desert hills, but one you get into the trails there are lush palm trees a lovely stream and lots of red rock formations. We also hiked the Murray Canyon Trail which was a great 2 hour moderate hike. Some parts get rocky and you need to be able to jump off of boulders and climb some steep areas towards the end. There was no waterfall at the time as it was October, but still a great hike. We went on a Wednesday morning around 8am and and only saw 3 other groups during our hike.

I hiked back to the Seven Sisters water fall. Easy, beautiful hike that crossed the canyon creek several times. Palm tree oasis was pretty spectacular.

By Jane and Bob F |

Such a good trail along the stream and than overlooking the fields. Because of the rains this year, so many flowers were blooming. If I went again, would sign up for a tour as there wasn't any signage.

By Suzanne S |

This was such a surprise. We had never been here and it is beautiful. We were lucky to have perfect weather, not too hot. There are many hikes available and guided hikes as well. I really didn't know there was so much water, interesting geology, trees and beauty so close to the center of activity. If you like to hike and enjoy nature, I absolutely recommend going here.

By 2windsurfandski |

We really enjoyed hiking here. Hiking beneath (and sometimes above) the tall palm trees is a really unique experience. There are places where a stream is adjacent to the trail with small waterfalls. We had a picnic lunch here on the rocks lining the stream. Overall great place to visit.

94 degrees in February and the perfect time to go hike the Palm Trail. We paid the entrance fee and headed to the Trading Post to start the trail. A ranger told us we should go park in the bottom parking area and walk down a dirt road into the canyon. This was great advice as it saved us from walking back up the steep hill to the Trading Post. The hike is through a palm oasis and is a mile out and a mile back — even in 94 degree heat.

By 8585rachel |

So beautiful! We did the short hike on the Andreas Trail - a one mile loop. There was a bit of climbing over rocks; but if you are able to climb a flight of steps, you can pick your way through. It's cooler since you're beside running water and a breeze comes through the canyon, so you don't need to go early in the morning to have an enjoyable hike.

By AmandaMB78 |

Beautiful scenery. We took an easy hike. Warning that the visitor center as about 2 miles in from the entrance at the main road. When we tried to get an Uber home, we had to wait nearly an hour for them to get through the very long wait at the entrance.

Super interesting and great hiking. Hiked 10 miles in Palm Canyon. Ranger super nice and helpful at Trading Post. Good place to hike in Winter.

We came to Indian Canyon for some hiking on a Thursday in January. If you are a student or first responder you get a discount. Unfortunately we saw the sign too late, but have your ID if you are either of those! It was $12 per adult to get in. Our plan was to do the Victor Trail/Palm Canyon loop which was 2.7 miles. We parked in the overflow lot as we got there around 10:30 and the regular lot was full. This was good though because out trail started from the end of the overflow lot. We did the trail in a clockwise direction. As we started the trail you walk downhill and cross the stream. This was a little challenging as the water was really flowing and we had to find a spot to cross without getting our feet wet. I’m sure this was just because of the recent rain. Once across the hike was in the full sun and mostly uphill- definitely broke a sweat, but it was not overly challenging and the trail was well marked. We had some great views of the snow capped mountains. Once we got done with the Victor Trail portion we joined up with the Palm Canyon portion. This part of the hike was downhill and in the shade. It was absolutely stunning with palms, water flowing- breathtaking. At the end of the hike you go uphill to the Trading Post. We were lucky that while we were up there, there were 3 mountain goats on the mountain across from the parking lot- that was a very special sight. It was a very nice 1/2 day of hiking. I would definitely recommend this area hiking!

Palm and Andreas Canyons were particularly good hikes, amazing scenery and natural beauty. Such surprising oases in the desert! We set out on the Murray Canyon trail but "bailed" after quite a while. Our complaint is that the information about these trails was not particularly helpful for first time visitors. That is, each trail was not described very well (length, degree of difficulty, etc). We found that "easy to moderate" hike to Murray Canyon was not a difficult hike but was much longer than we had anticipated and was in the open desert sun for much of the time. We would have appreciated good info.

By andyrite |

Several different trails to pick from, various levels. The Trading Post has awesome views, and is a jumping off point for several hikes.

By Connector788337 |

We came on a very hot day, so only did the shorter (1 hour) canyon hike. The longer hikes were more in the sun and given it was just under 100 degrees, and we're from Canada, we figured we wouldn't risk the sunstroke! That said, it is absolutely beautiful, and so well taken care of. Will come again when its cooler and see if the rest of the hiking is just as pretty.

By CB |

Got here kind of late in the day so only did the Andreas Canyon trail. Not too strenuous and such a neat scenery.

By Avi S |

Beautiful palms oasis with running water and lush vegetation, a nice place to picnic and very picturesque nature.

By melimo1017 |

We found ourselves in Palm Springs with our two young kids unexpectedly, thanks to an airline, and we were pleasantly surprised at our fortune to find this beautiful spot for the kids to stretch their legs after a long flight day for a reasonable price before driving in the car again. We didn’t hike far, but we didn’t have to - the desert flowers were in bloom, and we sat under the palm trees and just enjoyed the scene. Our kids also loved encountering the horses on the trail. Kids and parents do have to watch their step as there are some steeper ledges, but this place is worth exploring.

By Shawn L |

This was our second visit to the Indian Canyons. There are several different hiking trails available. This is a state park so there is an entrance fee per person. ($9 per adult).

Once you enter you can go right to the ranger station or turn left to head towards other hiking trails. All are mapped out for you (online and in the paper map you get at the gate).

There are bathrooms located at the start of a couple trails. Watch this carefully to make sure if you need one you will in know where it is. There are no bathrooms at the end of the trails or along them.

If you are looking for a nice easy pace hike, try either Andreas or Murray Canyon. Both have great views and are very enjoyable for all.

It can get very hot! Make sure you pack plenty of water. When your water is half done it is time to turn around and head back.

Hiking sticks and trail shoes definitely help.

Lots of advanced trail options as well.

A great place for amazing hikes and breathtaking views!

We stopped in Palm Springs on a leisurely journey from San Diego to Tucson. While strolling through town, one of the shop clerks recommended Indian Canyons. We decided to head over and were so glad we did! The pristine nature trails and scenery were like being in an enchanted forest. The trails varied from easy to challenging, so something for every level of hiking. The bottom line is, if you are in the area you won’t be sorry if you spend a day or even just a few hours here. I am grateful that the area has been opened for public use and that we got to experience it.

My family met in Palm Springs for a family vacation. My 5 children and their spouses, along with my 10 grandchildren, went to Indian Canyons for a hike. We got there for 8 o'clock so it wouldn't be too warm. My grandchildren range in age from 10 months to 11 years old. Everyone had a great time. We hiked the trail that was by the creek and then looped back to the gift shop. Our 10 month and 1 1/2 year old grandchildren were in back carriers. The rest of the children, ranging in age from 3 - 11 walked the trail, but the two 3 year old kids needed to be carried on our backs for part of the way. It was harder for them when we got out of the shade and they got warmed up from the sun. Even if you don't do the whole hike, it is an awesome experience to see the palm trees and part of the trails. Well worth the money!

By Tina G |

We went on the Murray Canyon trail. It's a beautiful trail with a flowing stream. You cross the stream many times as you hike up the canyon. Lovely oasis in the desert.

By aaronstew |

This place is a total hidden gem! The main hiking trail (-2mi) is perfect! The sights seem incredibly unique: desert, hills, mountains with rocks, and the tallest palms in canyons ever! Anyone looking to hike/walk desert or palm filled areas definitely must do it here.

By Patricia B |

Beautiful scenery. Unable to hike much due to my own stipulations but still so worth seeing. Saw things I will probably never see again.

By sco22512 |

A beautiful hike among towering ancient palm trees. The trail crisscrosses the stream/creek several times, so you might get your feet wet. Well worth the admission price!

By jackehill |

The day was full of hikers but a cool oasis in a scorching desert. Palm Trees that are the only native palm in California.
Easy hike with plenty of places to stop and rest.
Worth the visit and a glimpse into the world of the earliest inhabitants of the area. On a busy day the parking can be tight.
On of the must sees in the Palm Springs area.

By RoadRev |

Yes, you have to pay to get into this park, but oh is it worth it. Some folks take the beautiful hikes.. but we had neither the time nor mobility to do that. However, that did not deter seeing both canyons and their oases which are very different. The upper canyon is the most spectacular.. don't miss it! You climb up some altitude and then look down on this almost mythological true oasis. I did not have the right shoes on (closed toed that will grip the loose graveled path), and hiking sticks would have helped too. It's not particularly steep but decline + fine gravel = precaution. I could see though that this was beautiful below and could only imagine centuries past where this was truly a divine respite. The gift shop is pretty good.. lots of books and jewelry and curios. The food is basic fast food and drink. Then off to the 2nd canyon and oasis. This is all accessible and together. There is a mile-loop hike which we didn't take. But you park right at the edge of the oasis.. replete w/ palms and flowing water. This is definitely a must-see locale if you are visiting in the Palm Springs area.

Love Indian Canyons just a great spot relaxing hike in a beautiful setting. Its well work a morning walk before brunch.

By Southerner |

Great spot to spend a day. First we took a guided tour and he pointed out sheep, bees, and plants we would have missed. It was a beautiful day to be out, not too crowded, and the array of palms and other plants was interesting. Very scenic place and easy hiking.

By Robert N |

There are multiple trails in different areas of the canyon, each with a different level of difficulty and different surroundings. We chose the Andeas trail, the shortest of the trails for our morning hike. The rock formation in the area are stunning with multiple layers of rock jutting out high above. The trail is rated as easy but did have a few stretches that were moderate. This trail is a 1 mile loop and I would recommend taking the east entrance first as this side has the most sun exposure.

By Jd W |

Close in experience for your guests. There are some excellent short hikes up along streams that even the lightly challenged and older guests can handle

By richardjosephr |

We visited the Springs almost as a lark....go see the Palm Springs. LOL
It turned out to be an unexpected bonus.....just gorgeous and looking almost primeval.
The clusters of palms almost seem out of place in the middle of the desert and amazingly it is not cluttered with garbage or polluted with signs or trinket vendors.
Not sure how it would be in the Summer but in late January it was a cool sanctuary and a pleasant hike. Highly recommended .

By Sam C |

Wow just wow, this place is amazing 👏
They have the best food, and I made friends for life!! And the saff was very friendly.

By RoP |

Among the place I visited during my stay in Palm Springs, Andreas Canyon stands out. This oasis is like nowhere I have seen before. Unique, beautiful, and fascinatingly serene. There is a small river with clear water, and many waterfalls, beautiful and mysterious rocky mountains, ancient palms, and mountain goats climbing rocks as you are walking. I kept imagining Indians on their beautiful horses crossing the river or trotting by. The trail is very easy. Check in was fast. There was plenty of parking at around 9:30 in the morning. This place is perfect for picnicking, and families with kids. Worth many visits.

By bzzznitchsocal |

We love it here and the reason is because its a pay to play location, which alleviates littering and vandalism. There is something for every level of adventurer. the ladies at the check in are kind with alot of information to give.

The old course is rough but still enjoyable, the new course however is awesome. Twilight rates were good and easy to get a tee time

I didn't know about this until the morning we went. I am glad I found it on trip advisor as it was well worth it. So close to Palm Springs yet you feel like you are in the middle of no where. We did a few hikes here and some can be done by any one. Some easy trails and more difficult ones. There is a shop at Palm Canyon with cheap food and drinks. So if you forgot water you can get it here. We walked through two different palm oasis and they were both worth seeing.

This is a area of a Reservation located just outside of Palm Springs. Best times to visit is early spring to mid April. It has dramatic waterfalls, oasis and interesting wild life and fowl.

By Dwight T |

An easy walk for as long as you have. Take plenty of water. Don’t feel that you need to do the higher trails unless you have good shoes and a couple of water bottles. Masks required at the trading post. Sun tan lotion for the babies and kids or you may be sorry.

By Robyn B |

An attractive walking area with lots of cooling palms - Andreas Canyon had a gorgeous stream to sit by and loads of picnic tables. The park does not open until 8am - a fact which belies explanation! It’s already hot by then , the rangers are on-site and cars waiting to get in; yet the gates don’t open until dead on 8am. Why not open at 6 or even 7am ?????????????
The trail markings we found were very poor and we never did find the small loop trail — one that one of our party would have found able to do. All in all, it’s a cool
Respite from
Palm Springs but could be improved with better opening times and better signage.

I give 5 stars to national parks. This is very good, but of course it doesn't measure up to national parks. Hence only 4 stars.

By Lorraine A |

Fabulous. Wow! Just Wow! Easy Appalachian trail that loops around. A little rocky and a few steps up, but mostly flat. Gorgeous pathways and phot opportunities

By Kathrin S |

Was crowded today for parking and such but perhaps we should have expected on a Sunday afternoon. Either way, it was gorgeous. An oasis of palm trees in the middle of the desert canyon. We just hiked the one mile one but with our wide age range, it was a nice balance. I'd certainly go again and try another trail in the area!

By NatureLovers |

We drove out to Indian Canyons later in the afternoon so we were only able to take a couple of the shorter hikes but we were amazed at the oasis feeling you have when hiking through lush palm trees in the desert as well as having a stream running along the trail. The views of the Palms from the trails above were like a mirage, such an unexpected but delightful sight. We wished we had arrived much earlier to take a couple of the longer hikes. Although we wouldn't expect to see the waterfalls in the dryness of October it would have been worth the hike in anticipation of them being there. This place is worth visiting and we thank the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indian Tribe for opening it up for visitors.

By Carrie D. |

Our Red Jeep guide recommended the hiking at Indian Canyons and we were so glad we took him up on it. We only had time for one hike and he’d recommended the Andreas Canyon Trail, so that’s the one we took. It’s about a mile loop and takes you along the canyon ridge through the desert oasis and back down the other side. There’s some moderate climbing, but it is breathtakingly beautiful in the oasis. Some other hikers we passed did see some snakes along the trail and warned us, for which we were thankful, but we didn’t end us seeing any ourselves. We did see a lot of lizards, which was fun—they’re fast little things.

The lady at the entrance station was quite rude to us when we drove up, which was disappointing. And I will say that we thought the entrance price was high—way more than most of the national parks charge and they will not accept a national park pass to enter as many state parks will. We had understood, or misunderstood, rather, that it was $12/vehicle—it’s actually $12 per person, which made it almost $50 for our car passengers to enter.

By Cantwait2009 |

This was a great hike for us, 1.5 hours up and 1 hour down. The map was unclear so we just went up and down. We thought we were going to do a loop but couldn't find it. The trails were not marked well either. Other than that it was good exercise and beautiful views.

By Boreal-Gal75 |

With some balance issues it can be difficult to find hikes that we can do because many have steep inclines. The mile walk around Andreas Canyon was perfect, some easy climbing and no steep cliffs. We got to see natural palms growing as they have for countless years. And it wasn’t a long drive to get there :)

By MazzieW |

We did the Andreas Canyon hike in Indian Canyons and it was my favourite hike of the trip! Once parked up you follow a well marked and easy trail which leads through meadows, rocks, palm trees and along a beautiful river. We loved it! It didn't take too long to walk the trail and there are plenty of places along the river where you can stop if you wish to in the shade. We even took our hiking shoes off and had a paddle which was really refreshing! Along the hike we looked up and saw two bighorn sheep looking down at us from a rocky outcrop! It was just stunning. It was quite hot on the day we visited but there are lots of shaded areas so you're not in the sun the whole time. It's well worth doing if you have the time.

We also did the Palm Canyon trail but didn't enjoy that as much as Andreas Canyon. There are easy trails and also longer trails depending what you are looking for so there should be something to suit everyone. There is also a shop at the Palm Canyon trail car park where you can buy gifts, drinks and snacks. We stopped there for a much needed ice lolly!

By sacarajane |

We took several hikes in Indian Canyons. The trails are quite rocky and require crossing streams. We really liked the Iiked the 7 sister waterfall. It costs $9 per person to enter as it is an Indian reservation.

By Computer geek |

We walked much further than our previous trip. We went along the river but thenwalked about 3 miles along the east fork trail of the palm canyon trail. It was deserted and we just walked for a few hours enjoying the canyon. Great fun!

By Robby G C |

We were heady to enjoying Indian Canyons.

We hiked and hiked. When we went near a palm tree(s), we knew that there were water. If you fell, you would be wet.
We did that at least 10 times. but it was fun!

The mountains were gorgeous!

We were not be wet.

A beautiful, peaceful oasis for only a 10-15 min drive from the city. Absolutely worthwhile to visit even you you are not big on hiking.

Beautiful walk on Andreas trail. Very easy to do, especially if you have limited time!
Suitable for families. Lovely oasis by the river

By carriesnow |

We did the Andreas Canyon trail and it was really lovely. Amazing things to see for such a short (1 mile) trip. This is a perfect trail for people that have limited ability to hike. There are some rocks to step over but nothing too challenging. Great little oasis!

By Zoom_Gotti |

The entry way to this remarkably preserved ecosystem is just south of downtown Palm Springs. There is a paid admittance required; but it was well worth it. My first shot was at Andreas Canyon loop trail, a palm draped creek area on one side, a smooth ridge line on the other. Though it's a relatively short loop, you might want to take some extra time to explore the creek bed as well as the open areas on top. There's several parking lot options plus picnic space. If it's busy, a ranger will probably be directing traffic. Aside from this trail, there are other hiking options at this site. So check the various trailhead signs and decide if you want to allow for more exploring here. I'll tell you you can even walk to the Palm Canyon trail or connect to the West Fork for a rugged day experience. But to see more quickly, drive out and turn toward the Trading Post parking area. There is overflow parking both before and to the left of the site. Weekends, holidays would make these lots good options. You can access the Palm Canyon trail by heading down into the canyon from the Trading Post or the overflow lot. Trail junctions are signed. A roundtrip hike along the Palm Canyon trail would go about 7 miles, mostly in the shade of the fronds. But you could do variations off of this trail. The recommended variation is following Palm Canyon to the Victor Trail junction. Then ascend the ridgeline and follow the Victor back into the overflow lot. For a lengthier loop, drop off the Victor at the Vandeventer junction, ascend, and connect in just over 2 miles to the Fern Canyon leading back to the parking. the Trading Post offers basic souvenirs and some refreshments. I couldn't find any potable drinking water other than Perrier. There are several portable toilets. Just next to them is a short trail to West Fork Falls. Should you meander down, take note that you might have to step up on some boulders to see the actual falls. Otherwise, you'll just hear them.

This was our first visit to Indian Canyon. What a unique and wonderful place. There are 3 hiking trails. We are Seniors, not in long hiking shape. We took the Andreas Canyon hike of approx 1mile. It was a moderately easy hike, although many rocks and rock steps. Took us just over an hour with lots of picture stops.

By Rob S |

We hiked both Palm Canyon and Andreas Canyon in the morning. Both are amazing and each is unique in it's own way. Both have plenty of shade from the palm trees. Both are short enough that it was fun instead of exhausting. Be on the lookout for the holes in some of the rocks that they used as mortars back in the day.

Come EARLY - before the crowds and heat - and enjoy spectacular hiking and picnicking in this desert oasis. It’s landscape is truly unique in all the world.

Went to Indian Canyons for a day hike with friends while visiting Palm Springs
~3 hour hike via Palm Canyon trail, cut off at the Victor
Beautiful scenery - palm trees, mountains, creek.
Well worth the $9 adult admission fee!
Highly recommend!

Of all the outdoor things we did in Palm Springs this was one of my favorites. I preferred this location over Tahquitz Canyon. I would recommend taking the time to do a short hike. We did the main trail, but instead of backtracking we took Victor Loop. It was nice to see the palms and creek in the dessert and the return loop provided some amazing views of the city.

By Jason G |

We came here thinking we wanted to do Murray Canyon, but when we found out there wasn't any water (for the waterfall) we decided to do the shorter Andreas Canyon. Unbeknownst to us, even in the summer the Andreas Canyon trail has plenty of water in its oasis. There's a cute little waterfall at the end of the 1/2 mile stretch before it loops around and there's plenty of places where you can sit on some rocks and just cool off with your feet in the water. Great little hike for all ages if you want to get a taste of the canyons and not die of the heat in the summer.

We always visit when we're in Palm Desert. Great place to go with kids. There're always interesting things to see, insects and reptiles. When we went to visit the flowers were in full bloom! Just beautiful. Caution, it can get very windy.

We had so much to do but also wanted to get a hike in - this worked out really well for us. A very gentle hike.

The Indian Canyons are a delight when visiting Palm Springs, especially if you enjoy hiking. During our visit we chose to hike Andreas Canyon an easy one mile loop that also offers a picnic area. The canyon is fed by a spring that provides an oasis in this arid area. On a warm Palm Springs day this is clearly an oasis. Entrance fee is $9 per person, $7 for seniors.

Visited twice (Palm Canyon, then a few days later to Murray Canyon) right after Christmas, and loved both visits immensely. Lots of trails, and having the huge palm groves in the middle of desert hills and scrub really brings home the beauty. Would love to see it in spring, with more water running, though Murray Canyon did have water running steadily and noticeably (most of the Palm Canyon water was pretty static) Terrific place to visit, we loved it

By wrshannOn |

The ranger led tour of the Palm Canyon was excellent. We hiked the trail for one mile before returning back to the trading post.

By black325 |

I'm not much of a hiker but the Andreas Canyon Loop Trail was very easy. The scenery on the stream side (right from the parking lot) was beautiful. When you come around to the other side of the trail you get beautiful mountain views. Luckily it wasn't too hot when we went because that side is in full sun.

By AndMH |

Lots of different trails here. We chose the short and fairly easy Andreas Canyon as we can't do strenous anymore. It was beautiful and we even saw Big horn sheep

By David E J |

Worth doing. You'll find that you've done plenty of other hikes that were better or more interesting. Fairly easy loop - Andreas Canyon.

By Eigerhike |

This actually encompasses three different canyons inhabited by the Native Americans. Great hiking, also great for horseback riding. Waterfalls, rock pools and giant palm trees. Great way to spend a day.

By Scott |

This is a place to hike to experience desert hiking and pretty good views. Even in the summer it isn't too bad in the morning.

By Chrystie F.L |

Nice relaxing beautiful surroundings, best place to go relax, hike and zen. Definitely take the family and enjoy a day or have a couples day, beautiful either way .

By MKeren |

We did two hikes here... Palm Canyon/Victor loop and Andreas Canyon... great views and picnic spots. I am not a good hiker and found even the “easy” trails a bit challenging... but for the less balance challenged, these were both easy... I highly recommend them.

By tikaneve2016 |

Beautiful hike with water, wildflowers and amazing palm trees. Rushing creek, flowers and well maintained with not a speck of trash on the trail. Trail initially steep from the trading post but then easy. Note port-a-potties only.
Ask for the coupon if you are going to Tahquiz Canyon to save $2.50 a person

We chose a mild, sunny day to drive up to Indian Canyons, ancestral home of the Agua Caliente Indians. We lucked into a parking spot in the smallish lot at the Trading Post. There is also an overflow lot. We hiked down Palm Canyon, the world’s largest California Fan Palm oasis. It was a moderately easy foot path down the canyon, with a few tricky spots, about a 2 mile round trip. Signage was a bit sketchy. There was lots of shade under the palms, but it did get hot by the afternoon. Just a long enough hike to be fun, rather than tiring. The scenery was lovely, from the palms and streams, to rock formations and desert. We stopped in at the Trading Post after, and they have some takeout food, as well as souvenirs, Indian art, crafts, rocks, books, etc and restrooms.

We weren't sure what to expect. Indian Canyons was suggested by the owner of an ice cream store in Palm Springs. He said there were lots of palm trees. He was right! There was a nature trail that was about a mile loop. We walked through the canyon of palm trees. It was very peaceful and serene.

By ruthandvern |

We took a morning and early afternoon to drive up the Indian Canyon Road, stopping here and there. We stopped and took the Andreas Canyon Hike. Take the left side entrance. Make sure. Left of the palm sands in the parking lot. That is the longest portion and furthest from the trees and canyon (i.e. Full Sun). When you get to the bend into the canyon lushness you'll be glad. We took the right side trail... hot and tired.

My husband and I cane with our 12 and 14 year old boys on Christmas Eve. We waited in line at the gate for about 30 min but it was worth it. The Palm hike through the oasis of palm trees was spectacular. We did a loop back through the desert with some elevation change which was perfect. It was about 3 miles and an hour and 20 min. I have hiked a lot and have never seen the combination of desert, cactus, palm trees and a bubbling fresh water stream. It was amazing. Like something on another planet.

By Bob K |

We spent a day walking a couple of the loops and it was enjoyable. $7 a person to get it, for sure do the 1 mile Andreas loop, and then the 4-5 mile Murray Canyon to Seven Sisters waterfall. The scenery is great and you experience a different side of the desert.

By varvie |

The owner of the place we rented suggested we visit the Indian Canyons and we were glad we did. Quite beautiful, and peaceful and not that far out of town. We hiked around the perimeter of the canyon (pretty easy hike) and enjoyed the serenity of it all.

By Paul L |

We had no idea what this was all about until we got there. It is truly a magical place. We only hiked 3 miles but the views were spectacular. I even recommend this place if you are only able to hike down to the picnic area because it is a real treat.

By ilovegreecetoronto |

This was our first hike in Palm Springs and what a great introduction. The hikes are not difficult but it's amazing to see a palm oasis in the midst of the desert.
The trails are well marked and maintained but you need a map if you don't want to end up in a very long hike.

By cynlouhoo |

We really enjoyed our time here. Did a moderate 2.5 mile hike, which for me was plenty. Lots of overflow parking and a little store and outhouses onsite. Allow lots of time to explore here. So much to see.

By Jason H |

We did some brief research for a new hiking spot. We went to Indian Canyons through the Christmas break. It was quite busy as we waited approximately 20 minutes to even get into the park. We didn't realize we had to pay to get in but still went. We hiked a couple of different trails and enjoyed them all. It provides a good variety of trails.

By traveler1955_10 |

We took a tour of Indian Canyon which I would highly recommend. This place is so beautiful and unusual with the palm trees and creeks. Interesting history. Highly rommend

By Shirley M |

This was a lovely warm day in Palm Springs. My husband and daughter and son in law visited here. It has great trails for hiking. Unfortunately I have a bad knee so it is not for anyone seniors especially that do not have great strength in their legs. For anyone else it is worth seeing. Absolutely amazing Palm Trees down in the oasis. I manages the lower trail and am so glad I did.

By Sudheer Pakala |

close to palm springs main street and worth visiting. there are lot of visiting spots and hiking places near by

By laurafromcanada2014 |

We visited this are in between Christmas and New Years and spent a good 3 - 4 hours there. There was a bit of a line up to get in but it moved quickly ....only about 15 minutes. There are two main parking areas. Several trails branch off from both areas. We went to the one where the Andreas Canyon trail starts. We had heard that was the most scenic trail. It is more of a walk then a hike being only a little over a mile in length. But you are hiking in amongst the rocks and the views are great. It didn’t take us long about 40 minutes at a meandering pace and lots of stops for pictures. It is a packed sandy trail with rocks so I would recommend running shoes not flip flops.

After that we decided we were up for a bit more adventure so after studying the map and talking to a very helpful ranger we decided we would try the Victory Trail. If left from the Palm Canyon area and so we hoped back in the car and did the 10 minute drive to the other parking area. Again..the parking lot was busy but we were able to get a spot. The trails are not overly signed so you need to pay attention. There were 4 or 5 other groups on the same trail so we just followed them. The Victory trail takes you up the mountain ridge that you are facing from the Trading Post. As you would guess some inclines but we are all in good shape and found it not to overwhelming. The trail then takes you across the top of the ridge for a good distance. Spectacular views. The trail takes you back out at the top parking lot. The whole thing is a 3 mile loop and we did it in just under an hour although it felt longer. But I would certainly recommend this one. We enjoyed it immensely.

We are both seniors (66&76) but I am particularly used to trails, walking and running. (I am the 66 yr old) I’ve also just recovered from Achilles’ tendon surgery!!! My first test! It was amazing. We did the Palm Canyon 3-miler (I measured it as 2.75 miles on my gps) and immediately followed this by the 1 mile Andreas Canyon. Perfect! Classed as a moderate walk, the 3 miler was both scenic and very enjoyable. The 1 miler was just lovely...... easy, lush and pretty. Totally recommend for all levels!

One draw back to Indian Canyons is the entry fee. We prefer hiking areas that are free but understand the need to maintain the trails. We had a good experience with the Maynard Mine hike. This is a hike with unrelenting uphill hiking for about 2 miles to the top of a ridge where you encounter a sign that indicates the mine is an additional 0.5 mile down hill (about 500 ft drop). The mine isn't much to write home about but the hike had lots of wildflowers and was reasonably well maintained. It was not difficult to follow. It was very nice to have shade from the palm trees at the end of the hike where we ate our lunch in peace and tranquility along a fast flowing stream. We were very disappointed in the Palm Canyon trail. This could be a beautiful place but it is clear that floods have washed an immense amount of palm tree related debris into the canyon and all it remains along the banks of the creek. It is an impossible job to clean it all out but the debris really detracts from the inherent beauty of the canyon. The picnic area at the beginning of the hike was cleaned of debris for the most part and offered sandy areas for the kids to play in. The Trading Post was a nice place to visit with $1 sodas which is unheard of in this day and age. Overall a nice place to visit.

By Chris S |

Well worth it! Great trails! The 1 mile loop San Andreas Trail was maybe the most beautiful hike of my life! The hike to the seven sisters waterfall was amazing, definitely a bit strenuous. Bring good hiking shoes!

By FjordFan |

We hiked Andreas Canyon and really enjoyed it--- it was easy and only took an hour, and walking along the oasis of palm trees in the desert is a unique experience. It was a good change of pace from the Ladder Canyon / Painted Canyon loop hike we did earlier that day. Very convenient to downtown Palm Springs too.

By deborah1518 |

Going to Indian Canyons was the highlight of our visit to Palm Springs. The hiking is fabulous; and the palm-filled canyons are utterly beautiful. We cannot recommend exploring Palm Canyon and Murray Canyon and Andreas Canyon more.

By Terence B |

Obviously something you want to keep for a not so hot day. The canyons are cooler and it's quite a thing to witness an oasis in the desert.

By JALToronto |

We enjoyed our short visit and attempt to to the short Andreas Canyon Trail that starts near a beautiful oasis in the desert.
Our visit was cut short when at approximately 8:45am as our trail began, a large 6ft rattlesnake rattled and made us more scared than willing to continue. I got a thrill and a picture, but lost the will to continue our hike.

By Zachary R |

if you are a first timer not for you - if you are making your way up the ranks it is def more appropriate for you. not super difficult by any means but not easy either.

By NottinghamGeranium |

This is only ten minutes drive from the main road in Palm Springs and so worth it! The day we went there were lots of visitors but this did not detract from our hike. We had enough water for three miles - it was really lovely. Plenty of parking as well. Totally unspolit and an easy walk. Occasionally it was difficult to see where the track went but we managed!

By J15Ang |

Great place to hike. Beware of rattlesnakes and a mountain lion that lives there. We didn't see either while we were hiking. Breathtaking view and saw 5 Big Horn sheep.

By CatherineCDavis |

For folks from the East Coast, this Oasis was really, really interesting to see. As others have said, being aware of the heat of the day for hiking is absolutely crucial. Well worth the time!

By David H |

What a interesting place Indians canyon is we done two of the walks The tracks were very easy to follow and easy to do .To see The Palm trees in the Valley were amazing

By ManOnTheMove |

We love it here. If you are not much of a hiker, this is perfect. The views are wonderful. $9 per hiker, but well worth the maintained grounds/trails. We take all of our visitors here.

By CeeJayCee55711 |

Worth the trip for sure. Amazing views and beautiful trails for hiking and walking. Not crowded. Largely unspoiled and incredible views.

By Roamin10304 |

Been to Indian Canyons several times as it’s an ok place to hike and walk down into the canyons between the mountain, however it can get HOT (after all this is the desert) so be prepared and bring plenty of H2O for your hike. The trails go on for miles and some of the trails are in the open, no shade at all, and hot.

By Rick L |

Not far from either Palm Springs or Palm Desert. Really great views, nice walking trails, has shade amount the palm trees.

By SeeTheW0rld62 |

We wanted to take the tram and hike up there but it was closed for annual maintenance. So we decided to go to Indian Canyons. We hiked to Seven Sisters and it was a nice hike. I didn't realize there would be running water and palm trees. It was 91 degrees when we started and 91 degrees when we got back. Thankfully there was some shade on the trail and we had some water with us. Our hike took about 90 minutes. It was too hot to do another hike so we stopped by the gift shop and got some cold water and left. The entrance fee is $9 per person which seems high for a 90 minute hike.

By Todd E |

We hike here every weekend and we love it. Great place to bring your family members. Wish they allowed dogs though!

By Phil_the_Viking |

Have visited this beautiful canyon location several times. There is an admission fee but it’s reasonable and well worth the price. We’re a retired couple but still active and love to walk. There are a number of trails throughout the canyon that offer a number of choices for every level (easy, moderate or challenging). We’ve hiked the easy trails in both Murray Canyon and The Trading Post. Both areas have ample parking and offer trails with beautiful desert and canyon vistas. We especially liked Victor trail at Trading Post. It takes you along the upper lip of Palm Canyon providing some of the best views and photographs. Lots of choices for short (2 mile) hikes or longer.

By CAFamily |

Easy hike and a pretty place. We enjoyed our time here! We had to wait in line a long time to get into the area, but we enjoyed our time here.

By Thomas J |

Hard to believe driving to this location that there will be any water at all, let alone a flowing stream. Very unusual to see plam trees by a running stream. Very cooling and calming. Worth a visit.

By James M |

I was not sure what to expect and was surprised at what I found. Walking through large palm trees through a creek creating what appears to be an oasis. Fairly easy hike about 1.5 miles out through the palms following the creek going in and out the sun and shade. The trail head is located at the trading post. Really enjoyed the experience and worth the trip.

By boulderrunner |

This was our second visit to Indian Canyons. Walking through the canyon below the gift shop is a magical experience. There was more water flowing this time when compared with out last visit and that made it even better. Totally recommend!

By Chiefyn1 |

There are multiple trails to hike, from easy to moderate. We hiked up to Seven Sisters. It was a moderate climb and once through the first half mile there were plenty of shaded areas to rest in. Make sure to bring plenty of water if doing the hikes through desert and with some exertion. June to September is the hotter season so follow the park advice and be prepared with plenty of water and supplies.
Be aware that you have to be out by 5 pm or your car will be towed.
All in all a very beautiful park with something for everyone!

By Gloria B |

We took an afternoon stroll down to the Canyon where we saw the many palm trees and date trees there. Teepees showed how the Indians used to live, the sand, and sometimes there is a stream running through the area, coming up from the sand. However, this time there wasn't a steam, but found where the water comes out. Nice walk.

By ritamarco b |

Interesting, beautiful palm trees and spring...... In summer it is hot bike, bring water . Also feasible with children

By OurFueledLife |

We were so lucky to have had the oasis to ourselves during our visit. We hiked a few miles out and back through the oasis and over the mountain which offered a great above view of the oasis. Make sure you bring ample water and snacks. There wasn't any water running in the falls while there but still beautiful none the less. We recently returned from Morocco and Indian Canyon transported us back. Truly a beautiful hike.

By missinggreece |

I really enjoyed the Indian Canyons. Loved the nature and beautiful waterfall. Would definitely visit again.

By Linda B |

I am recovering from back surgery so wanted an easy but scenic hike. We chose the one mile loop trail at Andreas Canyon. It was lovely, not too hard, along a running stream. Easy parking, well marked trail and spectacular scenery.

By joaniemaria |

We hiked to the waterfall. Then we hiked down the hill to the picnic area. We went in the Trading Post. A friendly ranger told us about the area while there. It is a beautiful area. I suggest a visit. You will pay an entry fee at the entrance gate. It is worth the fee to see the huge palms trees and hike the area.

By Suellen2 |

Multiple trails to choose and beautiful vistas. Love the palm groves. Could spend two days to try all the trails. Truly unique hiking walking experience and worth the effort.

By Norm Baker |

Went to Andrea’s canyon trail , very easy to walk and stunning views . Was surprised how beautiful both rock formations and trees . All trails around here were the same , beautiful and stunning .

By CaliGirl510 |

Lovely easy hike (Andreas Canyon) with kiddos. Lovely rock formations and delightful stream. Entrance fee was high for a quick visit, but reasonable for an all-day adventure.

By ArizonaTwo |

Friendly staff, greens great, good deal for summer rates. Worth the time. Really enjoyed the course.

By AdventureBiker21 |

The hike requires a fee as it’s on tribal land. But it was worth it. Great views and a bit of a challenge. Wear good shoes! Not as strenuous as Tahquitz Canyon

By jodyewing |

I advise you to go to the many OTHER wonderful oasis/preserves in this area. I have taken family and friends here many times, and will never go back.
1. Fees are outrageous. and watch them closely, they have overcharged me twice. Once even charged me for a fourth person that wasn't even in the car. And they get all bent out of shape if you correct them.
2. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THE PRICE THAT YOU PAY TO GET IN, THAT YOU HAVE TO USE A PORTA-POTTY THAT IS OVERFLOWING WITH....... AND NO WATER TO WASH. IT SMELLED HORRIBLY...AND EVERYONE THERE THAT DAY WAS GAGGING AT THE THOUGHT OF EVEN HAVING TO USE THEM. IT IS UNSANITARY AND INEXCUSABLE.
3. Little to NO parking if you don't get there early. Again, NO EXCUSE with the money they charge to get in that they can't provide more parking and better service.

Is it a beautiful canyon? Yes it is. Is is worth going to? NO. Look up the many other ones available (for free) to walk into and find some hiking trails.

By Marcasso |

This is a great hiking area...we walked 3 miles in and 3 back....even on a warm day it's nice because of all the palm trees. You can just imagine the Indians in the old days living under the canopy provided by the tall palm trees
