Beautiful campus for a stroll

By Mike46077 |

Love coming here to walk around and look at nice architecture and beautiful grounds. Easy to see why people enjoy being students here.

Beautiful campus located right next to downtown

By Donna C |

We were visiting the campus with my graduating senior. The campus is lovely with all the stone building and walkways. Was a very easy campus to navigate and you could walk pass the gates and you are in the heart of Bloomington.

Beautiful, picturesque campus

By femaletrumpet02 |

Was here for a family wedding on campus in early October 2016, a week before homecoming festivities. The campus is very laid out and spacious, with transit easily accessible. The hall where the wedding reception was at was located in the middle of Greek row, with many fraternity and sorority houses. The athletic complex was conveniently located from the many off-campus hotels. It is a great place to see.

Beautiful campus in All-America city

By Coz C |

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better looking campus anywhere. The undergraduate population is large, the campus is very active and diverse, and the dining choices are numerous. Indiana basketball, at Assembly Hall, is the pinnacle of the Big Ten basketball experience. If you're considering a campus visit in the midwest, place this one at the top of your list. IU includes one of the top-ranked business schools in the US (Kelley School of Business) and Bloomington, IN, has consistently been ranked as one of the best U.S cities in which to retire. GO HOOSIERS!

By Sally D |

We saw the musical RENT. Amazing!! One of the most beautiful campus environments in the world. A mini NYC right in the mid-west!

It is a BEAUTIFUL campus

By Reem |

We took a self guided tour and got to round on only 30% of the campus because it was so big. The classes are good size. The staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Great Experience

By trl169 |

The campus is easily accessible, and it is nice to visit the tree lined campus and athletic venues.
Many ethnic eateries reside close to the university as well as traditional college hang outs.

Great campus tour

By WillowOak09 |

Participated in the official campus tour for high school juniors and seniors. We were very impressed with everything from the reservation process to the fabulous students who led the tours. We have attended more than 10 campus tours with our two children and this was one of the most impressive.

Top ranked beautiful campus - compact for such a big school

By rwfishermn |

Tour of "limestone" building was excellent - geological and architectural insights. First impression was excellent.

Beautiful campus

By CRMays |

I can't believe how beautiful the IU campus is. The trees and flowers are abundant. The landscaping is fabulous and there are neat surprises throughout like statutes. The campus is easy to navigate though it is big. It is also close to alot of things to do.

A quick tour around the main campus; also the athletic fields north of that.

By Jerry H |

Begun as a very small seminary, has grown and includes virtually all branches and disciplines of scholastic endeavor. The Law School and the Music School are just two examples among these.

Beautiful stone buildings with lovely green spaces

By mhershey |

I’ve seen quite a few college campuses, but this might be the prettiest ever. There are trees and wooded pathways throughout, and the limestone buildings are magnificent. The campus is huge but well-contained, with an impressive array of academic and cultural offerings. Exceeded expectations!

College Visit/ Mini Get-away....

By Brad Hoggatt |

I had only been to IU Bloomington as a student a few times, and I had forgotten just how beautiful this campus was. Lots of construction during our visit, but that's a good thing- shows growth and plans for continued improvement. Never once did it hinder our traveling around the campus or seeing the sites. I felt like I was walking on an Ivy League campus at times! It IS big, but there is truly a sense of connectedness to it all. Having said that, it DOES seem like a huge jaunt to get to the north part of campus (I feel sorry for those kiddos living in the dorms in that direction!). All in all, it was a great experience, with ALL students willing to unplug and help this, at times, lost family find their way back to campus! :)

Beautiful campus, terrible parking

By Miller1647 |

We just visited for the day. The buildings are beautiful and the campus is spread out over a very large area. It was hard to find parking and this was at a time school was not in session.

Gloriana, frangipana

By ericvangucht |

Granted, I'm a little bit biased, because it's not only my hometown but my alma mater for college. It's a shame that Indiana isn't given as much credit as it should, because in this little pocket in the southern part of the state, Indiana University (IU) remains one of my favorite places. Dunn Meadow is gorgeous, and there's a strong focus on the arts, culture, restaurants, and all the other things that you would imagine a college town would have. For those that have never visited, a college visit is highly recommended. Do be aware, though, that many of the public parking places have meters, and parking on campus may be problematic. But Bloomington is a walking town anyway; don't just walk it, enjoy that walk.

Beautiful School

By MKJourneys |

IU is one of the most beautiful campuses we visited on our college tour. The fall colors were just amazing. The school has wide range of course and major options. There is very nice mix of old and new facilities on campus. They are continually updating and adding new facilities . The fraternity and sorority row on Jordan Ave is something to see.

Awesome campus

By Charles W |

There are many beautiful buildings and the scenery is awesome. The campus has many walkways and an old chapel. The union building includes many shops and restaurants. The architecture is fantastic. It is also in walking distance to downtown Bloomington. They also have quality events at the auditiorium (ballets, theater, comedians, singers, etc.)

Very nice visit

By tdw41 |

We always love going to IU to see our grandson and visit the campus. It's really beautiful in the Summer.

Never disappoints!

By Iubsu |

There is nothing better than a visit to stroll the campus of Indiana University! It's a beautiful, peaceful campus. Check out Assembly Hall and Cook Pavillion for some awesome basketball memorabilia and a glimpse of IU history. Enjoy!

Great visit to a great midwestern campus

By EjwEsq |

Toured IU with my daughter. One of the most beautiful campuses I have ever toured. Loved the facilities, the people and the entire experience. Would love for my daughter to go here...

Indiana U Campus Visit

By Dean A |

Fantastic college campus and being a Michigan State grad it is difficult to find one more beautiful than the "banks on the red cedar" but IU is definitely one of the more majestic. Truly enjoyed walking the grounds on a prefect fall day in October.

Family trip

By Jamie C |

Beautiful area and grounds. Took two boys to see the art museum and it was a mixed review. They enjoyed walking around the campus.

best college in the world

By csisken |

Cute town, amazing school, always a good time. Has campus seperate from downtown (kirkwood). Can get free tours of the university through the office of admissions

Beautiful campus

By Shouldacouldawoulda |

We attended Freshman Orientation with our daughter over the last couple of days. It is a very busy place, but a place you should never be bored at. Beautiful landscaping as well!

Beautiful grounds and architecture

By Frances V |

We attended a wedding on the university grounds. I thought it was an unusual place for a wedding but it was perfect. The architecture is beautiful and added to the finest of weddings. The gardens were beautiful, and just inside was a large reception room in their hotel. We also thought a hotel on the campus grounds was unusual but the rooms were well appointed, well kept, well maintained, clean and spacious. The staircase is a good place for photos. There is a restaurant and cafeteria in the hotel and the food was good. We were surprised how good the cafeteria food was. Fresh salads and food to go. It surprised us how low the room rates were. We recommend it.

Beautiful

By smpfen |

Beautiful campus. Majestic buildings and wooded areas. Incredible stadiums. Friendly staff & students. Many restaurant and shops just steps away.

Indiana football Stadium

By STLRoadGlide |

We came for a Nebraska v Indiana football game. We pulled our campers and were able to set up from Fri to Sun in the rv overflow lot behind the baseball field. You have to be self sustainable, no nearby restrooms. It was a great weekend and a great visit to another Big 10 campus

A walk through

By Lschrader26 |

I went to school here many years ago and like to come back and visit. This time we brought our children. They loved walking around campus and seeing all the buildings. It is something we plan on doing for many years to come.

Beautiful campus

By wamzie |

The campus of IU is truly a beautiful place. If you’re in town try to find time to walk around the campus. The grounds and architecture are beautiful. The people who take care of the grounds obviously take pride in their work.

Visiting Greatness!

By Diane S |

IU is a great place to visit. It is a beautiful campus with many mature trees. There are many local places to eat or have a cool brew, that would not be here if not for IU. The lake is within 15 minutes along with a national forest. This is simply a delightful place and a great school.

The most beautiful campus I've ever seen

By AllisonL65 |

I love visiting college campuses so I was thrilled to be in Bloomington for business and I can honestly say the IU campus is the loveliest I've ever seen from the architecture to the landscaping. My visit was during the summer and I can only imagine how much more gorgeous IU is during the autumn months.

Very interesting campus

By Annaline |

It is a very interesting university campus...it seams like it was located in the forest. A lot of trees. Make sure you watch a classic movie based in Bloomingdale IN: “Breaking away”... before you come to visit

Great to visit in summer

By Joshua H |

With less foot traffic and crowds, visiting campus is very pleasant in the summer months. The wooded areas by sample gates make for very good walks and the scenery is beautiful.

Beautiful attraction

By DickandRobin |

This is a beautiful campus with quite a history. Worth walking around to see buildings. Journalism School unfortunately revised after generations of Ernie Pyle reputation, and solid business school. Take time to check out downtown around campus—Nick’s in particular!

Very good university

By Suresh |

I recently visited this university for graduation ceremony. This is one of the reputed universities with beautiful campus

Beautiful Campus

By seagreentales |

Just visited IU for the first time and was stunned by its beauty. Gorgeous trees, winding walkways, streams, meadows, and impressive buildings. One of my favorite college campuses that I've seen. And if you're visiting in the spring, it's particularly beautiful with everything blooming. Would highly recommend a visit. You could easily spend the whole day just wandering around and then eating in some of the great restaurants nearby.

Beautiful campus

By Susan R |

Great place for a walk. The campus is spacious and beautifully well laid out. The best way I can describe it for people who have ever been to Alton Towers, it's like that. Substitute the many limestone academic buildings for rides, and you'll get the idea. There is a lot of green space in between concentrations of buildings with well laid paths which are wheelchair friendly. All really well kept and really clean.

The only thing I would say is that if you don't know your way round, unlike British Universities where things are signposted, there is no signage on campus. It's very easy as woodland looks like other woodland, to walk around in circles and still not end up where you want to be. Visit the information centre just outside the main gates. The staff there are really friendly and could not be more helpful and will provide you with a free map of campus and the town.

There are a number of buildings that you can purchase refreshments in, and unlike British Unis, you can wander into any building and use the loos. Most of the science blocks also have exhibits to look round.

Indiana University trip

By Warren C |

An absolutely outstanding campus, spread all over Bloomington. The streets in and through the campus are well marked. Campus police are super friendly folks. The architecture is stunning, with so many older buildings to admire.

Beautiful campus

By Jahonbin |

Amazing campus for an afternoon walk. Each building is unique architecturally and there are nice wooded paths along the Jordan river.

Excellent university

By James P |

What else would I say? I'm an alum (& former class president) from the early '60s. IU has a number of excellent programs, including the Media School whose alumni include CBS, NBC & CNN reporters, journalists on the Washington Post & LA Times, at least three Pulitzer Prize winners I know and can name off the top of my head. As one of those journalism students, and also a former president of Investigative Reporters & Editors (which now has members in 26 countries), I think IU's Media School ranks in the top three journalism programs in the country, along with Northwestern and Missouri. The university has had a least two Nobel Prize-winning professors of which I am aware--just another testament to its excellence across all disciplines.

Corporate Pilot

By steven hansen |

This place is a great after church place on Sunday mornings. Lots of hippies and old professors to keep you entertained and the staff is a fantastic group. Food while understandably pricy is very good and worth it!!!! Love this place!!!

Proud Hoosier parents ... best place to study

By Jayasiva |

Since my daughter is studying here, we are pleased and have a good feeling.. she found right place for her graduate... we were there for four days, walked around almost all the places..

Gorgeous Campus, Great school!

By Davanrn |

This is a wonderful Midwestern Big 10 school. A large enrollment but it rarely feels that big. Beautiful rolling hills and trees dot the campus. Stunning in spring and fall. Very cosmopolitan campus with great food and entertainment options.

The incredible Lilly Library: Researcher's Oasis

By Nelson C |

Lilly Library holdings include 400,000 books, more than 100,000 pieces of sheet music, and more than 7.5 million manuscripts. I'm proud to say that I have four books selected by the collection. It is a paradise for researchers; the only restriction is that the books are rare and out of print and they can only be consulted in the special rooms provided for that matter. The rare books and manuscripts can surprise you any minute, from the oldest bible to incredible material about authors. It's a library where your topic can cover 7, 8 centuries of documents. I'll be coming back to this paradise!

Clean, really nice and expansive campus

By fijiitalia |

We were here during graduation week and herds of people everywhere in or around the campus. I have been to many big name university graduations, visited other beautiful and nice universities, was not disappointed with IU. Well organized graduation activities, faculty were all friendly and nice,

I have a student at IU. They enjoy this school very much. I love it here. The campus is beautiful. Lots of excersize from walking. Cool places to chill and study.

Beautiful campus for a fine university

By John H |

We came to Bloomington to tour the University. The campus is beautiful with a fine mixture of classically styled buildings, lots of green space and colorful plantings. What a great place to go to school.

One of the most beautiful universities

By Andi |

They continue to provide upgrades to the university to help make it easier for students and add even more beauty to this location!

Beautiful campus

By SaltLife03 |

After graduation, we try to make an annual trip back to visit. Whether it's to see a game, go golfing, or just hang out we always have a good time. The campus is beautiful and we always enjoy walking around. Brown County State Park, and Monroe lake are both close by as well.

Wear comfortable walking shoes

By AnitaLatte |

My family toured the campus on a guided tour following the information session as part of a week long Spring Break during which we toured 5 different universities in the Midwest.

The campus is 2000 acres. There's great distances between the buildings; I'd venture to say there is as much open space on the campus a building footprint. The tour will cover a great deal of campus so be prepared for a lot of walking and for inclement weather.

Free parking is at the stadium on the northern most side of campus. A shuttle will take you to and from the parking lot and the admissions office. The shuttle only runs 8-5 so if you have other business on campus, you will likely use the garage which is $3 an hour.

I didn't feel that the info session provided any more information than what I could easily find on the website, but attending did help set the comparison gauge to the other universities we visited during the week. The tour was as helpful as tours are for getting a feel for the campus, which is to say that we found it very helpful. We also toured the Jacobs School of Music and attended that info session. I did feel that I gleaned some info that I would not have known had I not gone to that info session.

A friend of our son's studio recital happened to be on the evening of our visit. That was a lovely interlude to include in our campus visit, made more special because we knew our friend. It was nice to see a recital hall "in action" as this is a typical place of interest when touring music departments/school at the various colleges.

We visited during the first week of March. The weather was cloudy, cold and windy. Warm coat, hat, and gloves were all necessary. Snow had hit other parts of the area during the weekend before. Winter was in full effect on the campus. With it's wide open spaces and sprawling nature, the campus felt stark. Brown grass, leafless trees and empty water features; it was not lovely, but held the bones of being lovely in other seasons, but that was an exercise for the imagination in the winter time. Given a choice, I would not visit this campus again in the winter.

Great location for conferences

By PNKLDY |

I've been going to IU for the past 3 summers for my company's annual conference. It has enough space to house everyone and a great variety of conference spaces. The surrounding architecture and scenery is a bonus.

A university campus like no other....an architecture lover's dream!

By MidwestKathM |

We came to Bloomington on business and arrived early so that we could explore the IU campus. We had heard from friends that the campus is one of the most beautiful and worth a visit to see the limestone buildings. Doing some research beforehand, we had a list of buildings to see...from the 1890s and early 1900s buildings in the Romanesque style and 1930s Art Deco buildings to the 1980s I.M. Pei-designed art museum and the new Mies van der Rohe-designed (in 1952) building. We walked through the woods and the gardens and enjoyed the carillon. And we even came back just after dark to see the buildings lit up!

The best!!!

By O9472VRjohns |

IU is a great destination. They union is a wonderful place to stay and there's so much to do, many for no cost. The best!!

Most Beautiful and Picturesque College Campus in the US

By DaveS_FL_OH |

Make sure you walk through the old campus (enter at the Sample Gates at Kirkwood Ave. and Indiana Ave.; park nearby) and kiss in the Rose Well House (campus tradition). Be sure to walk through the central wooded part of campus and see the Jordan River (more like a trickling creek). Just beautiful. Enjoy Showalter Fountain, the Lilly Library and the Art Museum, all in the same cul-de-sac.

A lovely campus close to village and town square

By TravelArtGolf |

By watching carefully for parking, the campus, the village area (Kirkwood) and the town square of Bloomington, are all available by walking.

We began our visit by driving the perimeter of the old campus: 10th street to Jordan Avenue, 3rd Street to Indiana. Then we found parking in a lot for a dollar an hour. We walked on campus and had a lovely time exploring the limestone buildings, walkways, arbor areas and the old trees. We did not get in the car to go to see stadiums and athletics facilities. A statewide track meet was underway there.

Another consideration is that during the summer, there is construction around the campus. I imagine this is true in many cities that have campuses nearby.

Spectacularly beautiful campus

By manfrommaine |

Surprisingly for a university with 48,000 students, the campus does not have an urban feel. The buildings, almost all of local limestone, blend into the hills and valleys in a very pleasing way. We visited in spring when the dogwoods were blooming, and the many spacious green areas were so lovely.

A Beautiful Midwestern Campus

By Marc W |

An incredible example of University Gothic Architecture clad in Indiana Limestone. The highest quality limestone in America. (The Empire State Building is built out of Indiana Limestone. IU is a major Research University offering hundreds of degrees in the Arts, the Sciences, the nationally-recognized Kelley School of Business. The Jacobs School of Music is second only to Julliard. Basketball is the game of Choice in Indiana. IU's basketball team has a world class history and a program undergoing renewal in the very competitive Big Ten Conference. My son attends IU. He is studying in the Media School.

The worst

By Jeanne N |

We had an express meal from vendors at the Wright Food Court during student orientation. It was so bad we almost reconsidered enrolling our student.

Beautiful Area

By jared1428 |

It was just a nice place to visit
We were looking to move here so we drove around. Lots of green, lots of character. Just a nice place

Great people

By charlie s |

You want a home town life style this is your place. Great sports teams, friend employees and you should just fine for the visits and walk the campus

Alumni weekend

By Amy B |

I was here for my 25-year reunion with classmates from the Optometry School. I know what a great school IU is, but had forgotten just how beautiful the campus is. Fall colors were just starting, & we lucked into finding an architectural tour of the gorgeous limestone buildings, with many details pointed out that I would have otherwise missed. Stayed at the Biddle Hotel at the Memorial Union, which was a perfect spot for being within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The beauty & history here have got to inspire students to do their best & be part of something bigger than themselves. Proud of my connections here!

Football Stadium and Basketball Arena

By Marinerone |

Went to a football game on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Great views. Good crowd. Refreshments were good also.

Highly Impressed

By John M |

About the visit: We visited the IU campus with my 6 year old son when coming here to see my brother who was a sophomore.

The Campus: Indiana University is huge, but not overwhelming at all. Grounds were very well kept, and every student that we talked to was very professional. This is an easy campus to get around.

The Students: as with any college, the student body was extremely diverse but everyone was extremely nice. It was very obvious what students attended the prestigious IU Kelley School of Business as they were dressed up and socialized with a very professional/ business like personality.

The Food: While we did not eat on campus during our visit, there are countless places off campus to eat, all of which are reasonably priced and of good quality.

If you happen to be here during an away game, I strongly reccomend eating at Buffa Louie's. It's definitely the spot to watch the games.

Son is a Senior at IU, took a pre-graduation stroll

By Photogirl2292 |

We spent an afternoon strolling through IU's campus with my son who is a Senior and graduating in a few weeks. We've visited the campus many, many times but knowing this might be the last while having a student there increased the sentimentality! It was a weekday so the campus was full of students going back and forth to classes, studying or to eat. We visited the new Informatics building and it is so innovative and beautifully designed. I am hopeful our last child will go to IU so our time here doesn't end! It's a beautiful campus to walk and explore all the nooks and crannies.

Beautiful Campus. Great Facilities. Great Atmosphere.

By ANDRE TS1966 |

Big 10 University with great academic program. Indiana University is well integrated to the town of Bloomington, Indiana. The facilities are excellent and they have an amazing stadium for 55,000 people. The town is very busy, with a variety of restaurants, bars and nightlife. Highly recommnended.

beautiful campus

By Valerie E |

This public university is welcoming and beautiful. We visited the chapel, greenhouse and walked the lovely campus.

Modern buildings, beautiful campus

By ManningAvenger |

The campus at IU is pretty big and scattered throughout several city blocks. Classic athletic facilities have been around for years with lots of history. One of the biggest universities in the country.

Mini IU

By Chocoholic2660 |

Attended IU Mini IU in June and had a wonderful time. The campus is lovely. People great. Food in the Union varies widely from sit down restaurant to machines. I used the cafeteria quite successfully.

Walked around the campus.

By Cheryl M |

Though classes have not started for the fall term, and we did not go into the buildings, we took a walk around the campus with a family member who had attended the university and enjoyed the beautiful campus. It is right in Bloomington, but feels like it is out in the country, with beautiful limestone buildings and a lovely stone chapel on the campus. I almost wished I was heading for college, so I could choose to live on this campus and have the choice of choosing one of several subjects to study. It is worth coming to see this campus to see what the university offers if you are heading to college.

Pretty campus

By MIZDGS |

I enjoyed wandering around campus a bit. Very pretty. Would have walked around it more had it not been so hot. Would like to return sometime.

So proud to show off my Alma Mater

By Kenny S |

I graduated from IU a little over 15 years ago, and it was so good to be back. I loved showing off the campus’ majestic beauty (the memorial union, the arboretum, Dunn Meadow). We also saw points of interest like the Lilly Library and their rare book collection. We had a blast, and it was a wonderful visit! Go IU!!!!

Beautiful campus!

By galeannor |

Quiet right now since most of the students are gone for the summer. IU's landscaping is top notch and they maintain an amazing amount of flora. Always see plenty of birds, giant squirrels and deer.

Our last choice became our first choice!

By billmoll |

With each visit we're more grateful we chose IU. Our son applied to 8, mostly smallish liberal arts schools...and was invited to apply to the Kelley School of Business and the Hutton Honors College. He got into both. Just back from Freshman Parent's Weekend...and he's fully settled in, learning and loving the place.

Beautiful Campus

By Kristopher C |

This is a beautiful campus to walk around. There is some construction right now, but it is fun to just walk around.

Beautiful Campus

By DGMun |

Such a beautiful campus. Took a long walking tour around the university. Everyone especially the students were friendly and helpful. They helped us take group photos, made an effort to get out of the way when we were taking photos and helped explain some of the IU stories and legends.

Indiana/Wisconsin Basketball game

IU basketball games at Assembly Hall are by far the BEST! The atmosphere is second to none! If you can get tickets, I highly recommend you attend a game. This is one of the prettiest college campuses around!

Best of the Big 10! Beautiful grounds. In town, typical college atmosphere - fun. Surrounding area is very rural and nice to drive through.

The IU campus is full of architecture and old buildings. Definitely a lot of picture opportunities on this campus.

What a great place to visit for a weekend. Great bars, great restaurants, beautiful campus, fun shops and IU beat Michigan State in a buzzer beater basketball game.

By AllenFamily8 |

What a beautiful campus. We attended Graduation ceremonies in the basketball arena. Really nice place. Very well kept. Fun to be a part of history at IU. Had a great time. Ceremony was a little too long.

Beautiful campus

By Scuffy13 |

Be sure to drive to the center of it all at the IU auditorium. Beautiful paths go south from there, then take a stroll through the largest student union building in America.

Hoosiers

By Eva J |

This campus is beautiful, I visit every time I'm in Bloomington. There are plenty of green areas, and most of the buildings are made of limestone.

This is an amazing University!

By Misonix |

I have a freshman there and one who graduated in four years in 2015. The campus is beautiful. The facilities are world class. Even if you are not planning on going there or are in town for business, walk through the sample gates at the end of Kirkwood and take a stroll. My kids love it. My graduate did the travel abroad to Florence and had a lifetime experience that she cherishes. Was there this week to pick my daughter up and I kept thinking this is a perfect university setting for kids who are looking for the big ten experience. It has it all.

Most beautiful campus ever!

Beautiful, clean most beautiful campus. Great deal for IN residents. A large price tag for out of state residents tho

An incredible campus!

Did a visit for daughters audition for music department

By mray5149684 |

The visit to UI was very nice and pleasant, very clean and beautiful location. Busy campus, everyone we spoke to was friendly and help us to find our way. Parking is some what limited, but ok.

More beautiful than ever!!!

By APBMWN |

We returned to Indiana University for Homecoming Weekend 35 years after graduation. We spent 2 days walking all over the campus, and it is even more beautiful now than it was back then! A tremendous effort has been put into cleaning up the 19th and early 20th century brick and limestone buildings, landscaping the campus with beautiful flowers, bricking the walking trails in Dunn Woods, and adding new limestone buildings that blend in seamlessly with the traditional architecture. It is no wonder I.U. consistently ranks among the top most beautiful colleges campuses in the country! You can spend hours walking around the Indiana Memorial Union building, inside and out, marveling at the architectural details from all angles. If you appreciate old-world style and comfort, stay in the Biddle Hotel there. And do have the buffet lunch in the Tudor Room - best value on campus! Memorial Stadium and the newly renovated Assembly Hall are spectacular sporting venues. And last but not least, the university continues to provide a top-notch education.
She's the pride of Indiana! Hail to old I.U.!

Beautiful Campus

By suep1853 |

So delighted to look around this beautiful campus. It looked so pretty in the Spring but I imagine in Autumn/Fall would look equally beautiful. We had a delicious lunch there too.

Beautiful Campus !!

By Tony V |

My wife graduated in 1999 from IU and we decided to stay. Great campus and great sporting events. We will never leave !!

Best campus and university

By Robert L |

Suggested times are spring to fall. When plants are blooming or leaves turning IU is the most beautiful campus. Also Little 5 is an amazing time, one of the greatest weekends.

blue collar area. boring.

By Janet L |

Went there for a masters music audition. big campus, some of the architectures are okay, but really flat town in general and not interesting architecture. The music faculty has a really huge auditorium that provides wonderful performances. Other than that, there is not much to see.

Campus Stroll

By janicehibbard |

The campus may be one of the most beautiful college grounds I've ever been to. The husband and I just wandered around, admiring the architecture and all of the history you can find here. We visited after school had let out, so it wasn't crawling with people. They even have some buildings, like their art gallery, open to the public.

Most beautiful campus in the country

Walking through campus or the student union, this is one of the most beautiful campus's with it's limestone buildings and stellar landscaping

Rankings of America’s “Most Beautiful College Campuses” are proliferous. They are found in every year in every college guide and business periodical. Most such polls are bogus. Sure, they include some campuses of undeniable beauty in their list, but it seems that other less attractive campuses can buy their way onto the list.

Indiana University - Bloomington campus is, by any measure, one of the genuine beauties. IU ranks high in nearly all such polls, and at the very top of the list in several. Ever since a book was published 30-40 years ago that published the results of credible research to determine the top five most architecturally-beautiful campuses in America, Indiana University has been widely-recognized as the singular most beautiful state university in the nation.

I tend to view campuses in two categories: (a) private colleges versus (b) state universities. The sheer size of the “footprint” of the larger state universities with 25,000 plus students puts them at a serious disadvantage to the smallish private college with only 1,800 students. In the first category, the clear winner is Princeton University. It is exceptionally beautiful. By comparison, Harvard is a dump. William and Mary is arguably #2 in this group. In the second category I place Indiana University at the very top of the list, followed closely by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Virginia. I have visited hundreds of campuses, and nearly all the major state institutions. So, my opinion, though subjective, is well-informed.

OK. Maybe It's Nicer in the Springtime?

We visited to audition for the Jacobs School of Music. There was a big snowstorm the weekend we visited, and the campus seemed to struggle to deal with it. It didn't have a vibe that felt welcoming to us.

Excellent Place for Walking

By MaxieandLucy |

Walked the school grounds alot while waiting for my son to visit, tour, interview, etc. The grounds are gorgeous and as a solo, 50+ woman I always felt safe. There are spots to sit and relax.

Impressive

Love the way they run this University, how well organized, beautiful campus. Proud to have my granddaughter attending Kelley School of Business. She is a freshman and by the time she graduates in 2020 the University eill have its 200th Anniversary.

My Alma Mater is the greatest

By cmeyer634 |

I last took classes in 1981 but still live nearby and love walking through campus and enjoying the trees, flowers, stone walls, and other amenities. The light totem next opt he art museum is a wonderful attraction at night! Amazing cultural offerings open to all, rare books at the Lilly Library, paintings by T. C. Steele, Showalter Fountain, the Sample Gates, Memorial Union, enormous library, limestone carvings, and much more complement the rock-solid educational programs.

Most beautiful campus

IU offers one of the most beautiful campuses in the US! There’s plenty to do and see. Best times to visit are autumn and spring!

Oh, the memories of strolling through campus at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN

By James T. Evansville, IN |

I was graduated from IU Blmgtn in December, 1977. You remember, the year after the last undefeated college basketball team? I remember being a little under stress that year, tiring to wrap things up. But the campus is so beautifully landscaped these days. It's a special treat walking through the Sample Gates from Kirkwood, through the Union, past Showalter Fountain, to the Auditorium, where my niece was married last month. Everything was well groomed, flowering, and beautiful.

Beautiful campus and athletic facilities

By Maltipoo16 |

We stayed in Bloomington for the Indy 500 and had to go check out this campus and stadium. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the campus is huge. There is a lot of open areas and parks though out the campus as well. I absolutely loved the architecture of the buildings and enjoyed looking at all of the athletic facilities. They have a super nice baseball/softball stadium! I wish I lived closer, because I’d totally love to catch a game!

Beautiful campus, friendly people

By KhunSami |

It is no wonder that so many weddings decide to take pictures around here: the campus is gorgeous and people are friendly. Make sure to walk around the Memorial Union (IMU), arboretum, and the rest of campus.

AMAZING CAMPUS!!!

By weddingmoons |

The University of Indiana has a beautiful, large campus. There is a wonderful walking path, biking path and of course bus transportation around campus. The buildings are huge and stately. There is plenty of green grass areas to just chill.

Excellent Job running State Science Olympiad Again

By KevandVal_1 |

School has over 225 volunteers helping to organize this event, with almost 80 schools, a thousand participants, Parents, teachers, etc. We Love the attention to detail that the book guides give (I should have looked sooner, I would have bought a t-shirt!). I would be lost without the maps, but the signs in the buildings, and the guides are Great. While our team doesn't usually do too well, you make it easy to attend! Appreciate all your hard work.

Very pretty campus

By mrsirin |

Flowers, gardens, brooks, and bridges decorate the campus. Lots of nice old buildings, despite the ugly modern concrete structures here and there.

This is a great place to visit. Very old buildings and lots of things to look at if you like architecture and history.

A nice place for a conference

By M.W. Morris |

We visited Indiana University for a Boy Scout Order of the Arrow national conference. We stayed in a dorm on campus and ate at the local food service. The university is a nice, sprawling campus with a good share of pleasant landscaping and interesting architecture. I believe I was told most of the buildings were constructed from limestone quarried in the area. This emits somewhat of a gray-gothic atmosphere. The food service was remarkable for the variety of foods, but mainly for their approach to sustainability. All of the plates, cups, and silverware were all comprised of compostable materials airming for a zero carbon footprint impact. Assemblies were held in the basketball arena which is large, but with little or no legroom for those of us with new parts. Other buildings used were a theater, museum, bookstore, and concert hall. All were convenient and clean. Just remember that this campus requires a lot of walking to get from place to place. Overall, a wonderful facility for a conference with teenagers.

If you go to Bloomington, Indiana, you go for a sports event or just to walk this beautiful campus

By Eaglespro |

Indiana University is always a great place to visit. It has one of the most beautiful campuses of the Big 10 schools, especially in the fall when the leaves are turning. A quick trip to Brown County is also worthwhile.

Still most beautiful campus in the mid west!

By Misonix |

Our daughter is returning for her junior year and we always walk the campus. Go through the sample gates at the end of Kirkwood travel the lovely shaded paths and walkways, stop and sit on plentiful benches. Great place!!! Go to the bookstore and get some official gear!

Campus tour

By Tony M |

Granted, two grads that met on campus and got married on campus may be biased, but loved walking from the sample gates to the auditorium with the kids. Most beautiful campus in the midwest, probably farther, but only going with what I know. :)

Great walk

By twhite90 |

My wife and I came to just walk campus and enjoy being outside, and this campus does a great job mixing beautiful buildings with nature. There are many walking paths and things to see, and that is with school not even in session!

Beautiful college

Wonderful four year experience for our entire family. Will miss this beautiful campus and town of Bloomington.

Wish I Came Here for Undergrad

By Moybien93 |

Very beautiful campus with a nice city surrounding it. I underestimated the size of this campus, it's huge! Love the limestone buildings. I'm from the east coast and have visited a number of college campuses, but this is absolutely one of my favorite campuses. The people and students there were very amiable.

Thankfully, my little brother is now attending this university so it gives me an excuse to come back time and time again.

Trip to Indiana University

By rdeassa |

This is an excellent school and excellent experience for incoming Freshman. There is help whenever you need it. On move in day, they have upper class folks waiting outside each dorm to carry everything to your dorm room. It is complementary and they were all very pleasant. The campus has endless resources to assist parents wanting to know about anything going on at the University. One suggestion, carry an umbrella wherever you go! Sunny pretty days can be deceiving. It can rain very hard for 5 minutes, then stop. all the locals know this and they all carry small umbrella to be prepared.

Gorgeous campus

By Dixon Doll, Jr. |

Rather surprised how pretty this campus was, limestone buildings and wide open spaces made you feel you were visiting the quintessential college town in the United States.

Great music

By Gary O |

Stop by the University to watch their jazz and music ensemble play. They were great. Had the opportunity to watch my son conduct a great moment for us. We will be back soon for additional performances.

Great

By IanBM365 |

I went with my Mom while on vacation on a day trip and it was awesome. The campus is very quiet and peaceful. There are lots of trees and ponds. The facilities are a bit outdated but still in working condition. This is one of my favorite places in Indiana. I would go there for more than just going to basketball or football games.

Student Memorial Union

By tlcrockett2323 |

Take a walk through the Student Union because of the workmanship of the facility. Go to the Tudor Room for a meal and go to the bookstore.

OUR INDIANA UNIVERSITY

By BillWaconia |

My wife and I attended IU from 79-83. Our 23 year old son graduates from IU in 5 weeks. First, it's a top notch school with nice, clean kids and a beautiful campus. We have visited our son frequently the past few years. If you want to visit IU here are some of our favorite ideas...

1 Park at the square in downtown Bloomington, walk down Kirkwood to feel the youthful energy, enter the campus, stop in the Union to check out the art and the book store, and continue along the Jordan River to the far side of campus. Take an uber back to your car.

2 Time your trip to coincide with an Opera. Best opera school anywhere and great performances of popular and not popular operas.

3 Eat breakfast at The Runcible Spoon one day even if there is a line, the next day eat breakfast at The Uptown Cafe order two cornmeal pancakes.

4 avoid he campus on busy game days.

We attended graduation. They did a great job. The campus is beautiful! The Kelley Business School is outstanding.

By Joy J |

If you have a reason to go to the college to get your student settled etc try the Fourwinds Lakeside Marina to stay. Twenty minutes outside of Bloomington but a beautiful setting.

A Quick Tour of Beautiful Campus to Show Out of Town Guests

By Paul K |

After having lived in Bloomington for nearly 40 years, when guests come, here's the campus driving tour I give. Head East on Kirkwood to Indiana. Point out Sample Gates and big woods behind the gates. Turn left and go up to 7th. Right on 7th to point out the Union. If off hours, go past guard house (or tell attendant you're just doing tour and will be right back out). Turn right and circle around to the back of the Union to point out main part of campus. Show Beck Chapel on right and continue around back of Union. East end of Union is hotel. Take street to end and turn around and come back out. Ballentine Hall is one of larger classroom building. Show Jordan river and President's house. Then take a right at 7th and drive around fountain. Point out Auditorium. Head back to guard house and just past it turn right on Woodburn to head up towards 10th street.

Right on 10th. Point out Arboretum on the right. That's where old football stadium was. Left on Fee lane, point out Business School. Head up to 17th. Turn left go about 1/4 mile and turn into football stadium. Drive around it a bit and past Assembly Hall and the new Cook Hall. Then exit back onto 17th and head left (East) up the Hill. At the top of the Hill turn right onto Jordan and point out the Greek Houses. At 10th street point out library and continue south on Jordan. Mention Jordan at this point is kind of dividing line. Housing to left, class rooms to right. Just past Library point out new International Studies building (one of newest on campus) and continue past MAC and the new fountains by music school. Show dorms to the left. Turn right on 3rd street and point out that this is the southern border of campus. Continue to Indiana where you take a right and you'll then end up back at the Sample Gates. This is a good basic tour. If time allows, walk the whole first part starting at the Sample Gates.

Memorial Day weekend

Just a quick visit around the Lilly Library and fountain. Campus was quiet due to COVID-19. The begonias were in full bloom which made for great photo opportunities. Parking wasn't an issue either.

One of the best Midwestern Universities

By Jeremiahjj |

Indiana University abounds with limestone buildings quarried nearby over the last 170 years or so. Visitors to many of the buildings will be walking hallways where giants in academia have trod. Those of us who’ve been to IU a few times hear their voices – listen carefully and perhaps you will as well.

IU has some of the finest instructors in the field of science, engineering, and especially music. The IU School of Music is renowned and is perhaps second only to Julliard in New York City.

Stroll around the university’s wooded campus. Get out of the buildings before or after lectures – you’ll be glad you did. Visit the library where one of the few Gutenberg Bibles is located.

The downtown area, only eight blocks away, and Kirkwood and 4th Street, feature fine ethnic restaurants. There is an indoor gym and 3-lane running track across the street from the Indiana Memorial Union. A complete gym, pool and Olympic diving well is located across campus at the SRSC. Small charges apply at each. Otherwise, the IMU is self-contained with breakfast and lunch offered at The Market down the hall from the Frangipani lecture room, and a more upscale lunch located in the Tudor Room one floor up.

The Ernie Pyle School of Journalism, named after the famous newsman killed by a sniper during World War II, is worth a visit.

Parking permits at the IMU are issued to guests with cars. Don't stay elsewhere if you can avoid it - it's a hassle and more expensive. And don’t park anywhere except the IMU lots unless you have lots of $$$ to spend on tickets.

Great Campus....

By captinleo |

Lived in Bloomington In. for several years and spent many days touring and attending ball games on the Indiana University Campus. If you are trying to decide on attending this great school I would give it a thumbs up for sure.

Most beautiful campus in USA! Most instagrammed campus in USA!

By Mary M |

I love the beauty of Indiana University! Not only because it is my ala mater, and was the best four years of my life, but because the grounds are clean and well kept and the staff who work throughout the university are pleasant and friendly. It is the best vacation spot in all fifty states, in my opinion. (Yes, I have been to Hawaii and, yes, it is beautiful too.) If you are a lifetime learner, google Indiana University Alumni Association and click on Mini University and prepare to be amazed!

Beautiful Campus

One of the most beautiful universities I have visited. Limestone everywhere. The buildings are magnificent. Walk around, go inside some of the buildings they are wonderful. Definitely visit the Union Hall, the Biddle Hotel is inside, such a treat.

Nothing special here. People are nice and friendly and easy to get along with. Lots of walking and hot during the summer.

Stroll Through Paradise

By sbsfl |

The campus was beautiful when I attended years ago - if possible, it's even more spectacular now. You could easily spend hours strolling the grounds, down paved pathways, along the Jordan river under the trees and have a wonderful experience. The architecture of the buildings is often subtle, but beautifully in keeping with the surroundings. If you've never been to Indiana's campus, you should definitely make the effort. You won't be disappointed.

Hoosier

By Danny C |

been to a few band concerts there and a play or two. I had to drive by there on a weekly basis. Well kept grounds and building are Old but in Great Shape..Nice place to just stroll around..

II-Bloomington campus between Third St and Tenth Street from Indiana to Jordan is absolutey gorgeous. And the university is a palce to get a great education.

All great: Arts and Sciences, Shool of Music, Business School, and more. I was graduated with both a bachelors and masters and it led me to an excellent career.

The peaceful scenes with so many trees, the calm river/creek flow, and the stunning architecture with Indiana limestone!!

Wow!!!

Dropped our daughter off to start her sophomore year as a psychology major. Campus is beautiful this time of year (any time of year actually) gorgeous flowers, walking paths, limestone buildings and friendly faces wherever you turn. Downtown offers many restaurants and shopping for a fun afternoon. We love Indiana University and couldn’t be happier our daughter is part of the Hoosier family!

The school is huge and the town here is so beautiful i'm jealous that my son gets to live here for 4 years. This momma may have to move to Bloomington.

Great visit

By Clevlander |

This is one of the most beautiful university campuses in the United States. It is perfectly well kept and if you go to the admissions office they will give you a tour of the area and the University. The buildings are intertwined with the forest and the walk between the buildings is majestic. It is as beautiful as any of the Ivy League schools on the East Coast. Definitely worth a visit while in Bloomington Indiana

Love it

By CDarrett |

I love this campus! My niece is a junior and I have been a couple of times in the past 3 years and it feels just like when I was in college and would come visit friends and family on campus. It has a great welcoming feel and even though I am not a student you can walk around campus and feel comfortable. I love to visit my niece go to restaurants on and around campus and attend events.

In love with IU

By BaseballFan5 |

Attended IU's New Student Orientation for 2 days this week. This is our 3rd trip with our soon-to-be IU freshman, but our 1st in the summer. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. I have been impressed with the campus on each visit, but I loved the flowers and trees in full bloom this time. The buildings complete the picturesque setting. I am really looking forward to the next 4 years!

Beautiful Campus

By Deborah K |

Spent the night in Bloomington, while there we toured the campus of Indiana University. Beautiful area. We live in NW Indiana, Bloomington is much different, hilly and less populated. I can see why so many people talk about IU Bloomington. I would recommend if in the area take a drive around the University, well worth the time. Huge football field also.

The current administration has not been good for the school

By Zachary R |

Th campus used to be remarkably beautiful. With The McRobbie administration's emphasis on building structures and facade, and image over quality, the campus is less beautiful and the quality of the school overall has lessened. "Heart", that intangible quality, is all but gone, except among some of the older staff and many students. The McRobbie have staff who treat them like celebrities, and expect others to buy into the image, but the emperor and his wife "have no clothes".
Examples are: vice president Tom Morrison's "great" plan to put a parking garage in place of a building which house large kiln which can't be moved, and massive, specialized printing presses -- hopefully, the funding for the short-sighted, tone deaf plan have dried up. Also the plan to move the bell tower from the northeast end of campus 9where it was put for a reason), into central campus, right in the peaceful, beautiful Arboretum so there can be "carillon concerts" (so idiotic it would be laughable if it weren't so destructive). The carillon can already be heard from a distance -- if the plan to put it mid-campus goes through, we'll be dealing with annoying volume issues all the time. Also, the plan is to make it even taller -- wow, a tall tower centrally located in an age of snipers and school gun violence. Typical McRobbie-Morrison idiocy.
...While hourly workers are limited to 39 hrs/week so that McRobbie can cheap them out of insurance, and many support staff have add part-time jobs aleasewhere to make ends meet, McRobbie's follies include $350,000 cement entrance sign where a huge, beautiful maple tree used to stand (a storm took down the tree, but another should've been planted there). McRobbie-Morrison and the IU trustees are doing their best to pave what had been a remarkable, "green" campus. Big contracts with Coca-Cola so that we only have Coke products now -- right after Coke contracted to use/abuse one of the largest aquifers in the world for Dasani -- are typically corporate and environmentally irresponsible.
The quality of education has not increased at IU but the tuition keeps going up.

We brought out-of-town relatives to the IU campus entering through the Sample Gates. Highlights of our walk around the campus included a stroll through Dunn Woods, a visit to the Indiana Memorial Union, the Lilly Library, and the Thomas Hart Benton murals in the IU Auditorium and Woodburn Hall.

America's Most Beautiful Campus

By Tina W |

The serene, beautiful campus is exceptional. Spend time in the Union, where you can eat, relax, shop, stay overnight, or bowl. I happened to see a beautiful wedding reception while I was there. Excellent spot to tie the knot. Great school. Exceptional people! Park at the union to avoid parking tickets. Campus is easily walkable from there.

Beautiful Campus to Explore

By Karen K |

I attended IU way back when but decided to take a drive to view the campus this past summer. Living some 3 hours away it made for a perfect day trip. The school year had already started but seeing the college kids going to and fro reminded me of the years gone by. The campus is well maintained. The stately music building, football arena, botanist building with plants to view from the street was still there. The restaurants and several bars near the campus haven't changed much. Hearing the music from some of the cars passing by had some faint reminiscing tunes and new ones.
The only difference I did see were the types of cars these kids were driving. I never had a BMW to tool around in.
Great campus vibes

Unbelievable Beauty

Indiana University must be one of the most beautiful campuses in the world! It is lush with greenery and gorgeous limestone buildings. So pretty at every turn!

BEAUTIFUL Campus, Friendly People!!!

By MaryBethJ_65 |

I love IU for so many reasons. First, I am a graduate but that was quite a while ago. Every time I come back now, the campus looks even more beautiful and it is evident they have spent a lot of money on upkeep, expansion, and keeping things modern without ruining the charm. You can walk for miles and enjoy all the buildings, the flowers, the trees, and the many paths. I am hoping one of our family members attends IU so I can have more reason to visit!

one of the most beautiful university campuses on earth.

By BaliHaiH15 |

Returned to my university after a 38 year absence. I can't tell you how beautiful the people and the campus are. Smiles everywhere on student faces, and a welcoming greeting from the clerk in the IMU bookstore! The campus is astoundingly beautiful. A walk through the Indiana Memorial Union building MUST include a peek at Alumni Hall, the Tudor Room--ok, stop for a meal in such a magnificent setting. roam the bookstore for all kinds of stuff, the Sugar and Spice bakery, and cozy up in a big leather chair in the South Lounge and read a good book. Every visit should include a stop at the Memorial Room, where the great book enshrines Indiana University's Service members. A trip to Nick's English Hut and Bear's Place is also a must.

A very very cool area to tailgate. Hilly with lots of trees and plenty of room to set up and have a great time. Good amount of porta potties. Could use more garbage cans. We were about middle of lot and it still was a nice manageable walk to the game.

a weekend winery trip in the Bloomington area

By Tom R |

OK...I am prejudiced. A business degree and a law degree from IU. Beautiful campus. Best years of my life...well maybe a few since them have been better. And yes..there are a few good wineries in the Bloomington area and close to the university if you want to visit there. Oliver Winery is a very surprising location with very large stones amid landscaping. A large selection of very decent wines and a super location to sit and enjoy.

Pretty campus - limestone buildings, lots of trees and grass, etc.

By interceptpubs |

We come here several times a year for meetings with staff and faculty that we do collaborative research with. Today had to some time to spare so just wandered around the campus. It is actually quite nice, of course even nicer when the trees leaf out, but still lots of paths through natural settings - Dunn's Woods, Dunn Meadow, the Arboretum, etc. The buildings, all consistently clad in Indiana limestone, are very nice too.

Of course, no visit to the campus is complete without stopping by the Union to get some gingerbread men at Sugar 'n Spice and look through the books and IU clothing in the bookstore. If you have the time, there are also several art and other museums on campus as well, although sadly our favorite, the Eskenazi Museum of Art, is closed for renovation.

The only down side is you don't want to be driving around here when classes let out every hour or so, but in between, it's pretty smooth sailing.

IU Bloomington

Still the most beautiful campus in the midwest

By Rich L |

Wife and I graduated in '76 and '77. Went back for a little reunion. IU, like most campuses, now pays attention to landscaping. It's more beautiful than it was. Still a wonderful, special place. My kids went to Ohio State down the street from where they grew up. Missed a lot.

I wish I went to school here

Beautiful campus. Rich in aesthetics. Walked around campus with friend that graduated from here. Without knowing a lot about IU, there appeared to be a lot of recreation/programming to contribute to a feeling of community for students. Very impressive.

Indiana University Campus in the Fall -- unparalleled

By Naterzz |

IU is famous for its gorgeous campus. I highly recommend a visit in the fall when the air is a tiny bit crisp and the leaves are turning but the flowers are still bright red in their beds. It is such a wonderful, walkable, beautiful place to be. Go! The Big Ten is blessed with great campuses, and IU is a true gem. The rest of the world over can come here to be inspired.

Indiana University for Dummies

By psinned |

For dummies first of all is if you know nothing about UI, you will learn it all on a walking tour. It was Thanksgiving and tired of Aunt Myrna's boil stories, Some of us needed a better distraction. We went to downtown Bloomington and went for a stroll.

Freshman orientation at IU

Our daughter was completely wowed by the campus and university, as such she applied and was accepted. It's one of the nicest college campuses we have seen and the educational options are enormous. Looking forward to 4 wonderful years at IU. Go Hoosiers! This is a huge recommendation coming from a family of Wolverines.

Awesome Campus

Without Indiana University, there would not be much in Bloomington. It is great to have this university in the town, and to see all the college aged kids having fun. In the summer or fall, the campus is most beautiful. It is still nice in winter, just too cold to enjoy fully.

Beautiful campus

By kidsnp |

My son and daughter-in-law are doing research here and gave us a great tour. This is one of the most beautiful campus' that I have seen. It reminds me of Princeton in terms of old buildings. The student union is really wonderful!! IT has a fireplace and several leather sofas to relax. If my children were undergrads again, I would definitely recommend!

Wonderful campus

By Pascal C |

Indiana is really fortunate to have such a famous university and a wonderful campus. It has its own museum (worth the visit), its church and its old cemetery, its auditorium (where we saw a Broadway show, "Bullets over Broadway") and exquisite gardens with multi-decade trees.
As our friends used to work on the premises we could access the splendid cafeteria and ate there. Nice visit!

A Stroll Through Past, Present, and Future!

By Patti L |

Indiana University was born in an era when appearances mattered: colossal gates and buildings, extensive and intricate gardens, trees that represent the diverse flora of the state.

There's loads of ethnic restaurants nearby, an amazing student union building, with labyrinths and secret rooms and oddities that could not be described if I tried. There's trails for walking, loads of people to observe, and plenty of free and high-quality programs in whatever academic fields interest you.

Don't leave a tour through Indiana University off your list when you visit Bloomington. You can spend a week here or an afternoon.

Gorgeous campus!

By maserk |

I brought my youngest son from out of state to see his older brother's college campus. We've been to quite a few college campuses and IU is one of the prettiest. It's large but walkable if you take your time and stop for a drink or a souvenir stop at the Student Union. We loved walking through the tree-lined areas of campus, enjoying the views and the different types of architecture. If you're with your student, the free bus is really helpful for getting around campus as well.

If you come by the university, be sure to spend some time in the "old crescent" area, where the oldest buildings are. There are so many beautiful buildings and well landscaped areas right by the Sample Gates.

Beautiful Campus

Enjoyed a walking tour of the campus with its many beautiful limestone buildings and even a statue memorial to the great composer, Hoagy Carmichael

Always something new to see.

IU is always changing and adding new scenery. Never a dull moment. Always something to do for couples, families, or being by yourself. I love Bloomington.

Most beautiful college campus in the US

By Dan D |

Indiana University is home to over 40,000 undergraduates and several thousand graduate students on the Bloomington campus. Many of the Big Ten campuses are pretty, but none as beautiful as IUB. Like most of the Big Ten schools, IU is a top academic institution with several top ranked schools in the country (music and business to name two). My wife and I went there in the 1960s. She was from Pennsylvania and had never seen the campus before. She fell in love with it immediately. Two of our children have three degrees from IUB. It is worth a visit for a weekend or for four years.

Beauty Year Round at Indiana University

By April S |

It doesn’t matter what season it is in Indiana, the campus of Indiana University is gorgeous! The spacious campus showcases stunning buildings built with Indiana limestone. Walkways are paved in red brick and lined with lush trees, babbling brooks and flowered landscaping. The campus is incredibly clean and always inviting to students and visitors. The campus has a quaint chapel, along with an art museum, auditorium, gorgeous student union and two libraries. IU continues to expand it’s campus while keeping it’s architecture in line with the limestone construction. While all seasons unveil something special at IU, the summertime is the best time to visit!

Oh- the school is really great too. LOL

Excellent University!

By VacationPro99 |

Great university with terrific opportunities for students young and older. The campus is beautiful also. It is rather spread out because it is such a big place. Go IU!

Great School

My nephew will be freshman this fall in this University and I'm really impressed! The location is beautiful and I'm pretty sure he'll love his education here the next four years.

Beautiful campus and architecture.

By ANDRE TS1966 |

Indiana University offers a beautiful campus to its students. It's very integrated with the city of Bloomington and they have great facilities. They have several quality shows during the year and sports activities in their awesome stadium and basketball arena.

A beautiful, sprawling limestone campus that takes up a good portion of the town. Well worth a look and a great place to send a student.

Great college ambience!
Impressive gorgeous school!
Well maintains.

Where can I park?

By Alison V |

Spent an overnight in Bloomington to see an IU men's basketball game at the grand Assembly Hall. Loved the experience, seeing the renovated Hall, our favorite team (Even though we were beaten by Wisconsin!). We also stopped in the bookstore at the student union, but we almost didn't. Student were not on campus, because of Christmas break, so there were several parking spaces open, but all required permits, or risk towing. Where the heck does someone park who is just there for a short visit? We finally parked in one of the 8 or so spots in front of the student union marked as 10 minute unloading zones. So we hurried to the bookstore and basked in the IU souvenir apparel, etc overload. Got a few goodies and made it back to our vehicle before it was ticketed or towed.

campus

By Eva J |

The most beautiful campus in the country, in my rather biased opinion. Every time I come to town it's a great place to walk. It's also a great place to watch people.

Gorgeous campus!!

By Laurie B |

You have to walk through campus to appreciate how truly beautiful it is. With the limestone buildings and woods and stream running through it, it is just lovely. The student union has to be one of the largest of its kind with an hotel, bowling alley, theatre and bookstore inside.

College Audition

By Roseann C |

What an amazing & impressive University & campus. I hope my child is selected from her audition because we were both blown away by the facilities, programs, faculty, accessibility & amenities. It was her first choice school before we visited and now after touring, it cemented it. It looks like Hogwarts for muggles, lol. Highly recommend!

Beautiful welcoming Diverse experience

By Tiffanymus95 |

Beautiful campus!!! Tons of nice shops and a multitude of culturally diverse food options. Very welcoming atmosphere!!!

Another wonderful walk through campus

By Wanderlust87 |

If you haven't taken a stroll through the IU campus, you're missing out. My husband, sister, and I all took a lovely walk on a January day while the students were on break. We're all alumni and my husband and I make it a point to take a walk whenever we're back in town. It's been a while since I took a winter walk on a gloomy day, but it was a lovely as ever. Take the paths through the woods in the oldest part of campus, cross the bridge near Ballantine, visit Beck Chapel and the cemetery, take quick trip through the Union, and walk along the Jordan River as you return to the Sample Gates.

Magical Ivory Tower

By Marcia W |

This campus is gorgeous and inviting. I highly recommend a walk though Dunn woods and along the Jordan. Also, stop in the gorgeous limestone union. Visit the Tudor room, and venture up a winding staircase to the study areas tucked in the alcoves. You will feel like you're in a castle.

One end of campus leads to the downtown area filled with great shops and restaurants.

Amazing Campus, Tremendous People!

By hruter |

One of the most beautiful college campuses anywhere. It is large, yet very conveniently laid-out. Excellent transportation options with campus buses. Kelley School of Business is world-class. Teachers, staff and students are all typical Indiana-friendly.

Best Big Ten campus

By kristen41 |

Limestone buildings are beautiful...campus is spread out in a lovely wooded area. Feels like a small town within a bigger city.

Indiana Football is second rate.

By Joyce O |

we have been to several Big Ten stadiums and this experience was the worst. We parked at a remote lot and took a shuttle to the stadium. Went smoothly until the game ended and there is a huge crowd waiting to go back to the lot AND NO QUEUE! Dangerous situation with a lot of tired fans. No security personnel or any IU staff around at all! If there had been we would have asked directions and walked to the lot, (couldn't get the lot to show up on Google Maps) Waited for over an hour and saw much pushing and shoving. Announcer during the game said numbers instead of our players names. Sound system was poor. Score board was slow to update yardage and was difficult to read. Felt like a bad high school sports production.

Beautiful campus,, landscape & architecture

By Michael D |

Voted one of the most beautiful campuses in the US. The architecture is cool and the landscape is well kept and colorful; lots of things to do there

World class University with a picture perfect campus!

By Mande M |

Indiana University is not only a fantastic place to attend college but the campus is breathtaking. Whether you are a local or just passing thru, the campus is worth visiting. Follow the meandering paths through the woods, take notice of the gorgeous detail on the limestone buildings and be sure to visit Beck Chapel by the Union. Give yourself at least a half a day to explore, you'll need it!

Nice campus

By abmilw |

very pretty. Kind of spread out. Many students use bus to get around. Greek row, for example - is quite far from main campus. Night life = restaurants, bars, movie theater - is a far walk from dorms. For town this size - they have great ethnic restaurants. Felt safe walking around.

The Glory of Old IU

By Gaylewinds |

As an Alum I am very partial, but this campus is one of the most beautiful campus's in the United States. The grounds are just magnificent.

IU campus

By Aly G |

My husband and I went to school here and decided to stay in bloomington to raise our kids. We even got married at the chapel and had our reception at the Tudor room. We absolutely loved going to school here and always find reasons to explore the campus still. Between the nutcracker yearly, our daughter taking ballet classes at the Mac, our son visiting the observatory frequently, we love checking out a soccer game, basketball and football on occasion & my husband working with a lot of the Greek housing! We will always be cream & crimson all the way!!

Amazing Campus--Best I've Ever Been On

By Jack H |

In my life have visited many campus, east, west, north & south. IU is by far the prettiest one I have ever walked through.

PLEASE walk this campus...

By Tim M |

I don’t recommend even bringing a car to Bloomington if you are able-bodied. There are lots of beautiful interiors in B’town, but the late Spring or early Fall are all about walking the beautiful campus of Indiana University. I was fortunate to have been able to attend the university as a student. If you weren’t you’ll wish you had after walking this amazing campus!

I took my daughters here to look at the school. It is really a nice campus with the old stone building and the creek running through it. We all liked it a lot and would consider when it is time for them to go to school.

Where my life started

By Kirk W |

I spent a year here, my freshman year in 1977-1978. It is where I learned that the world was much bigger than Posey County Indiana. I learned how to meet people; how to learn to interact with people; how people will hurt you; how people will help you. It was your typical freshman learning year but on a beautiful campus.

BEST CAMPUS! Most beautiful people.

By Fadyayad |

Indiana University was my dream and I've been their in 2016. I wish I could go back, It's campus is just wonderful and amazing. The IU gates are pieces of art. I've learned there great things and took place in GBI opportunity 2016. Looking forward to going back.

Execellent campus

By roseursetti |

I visited this campus and it is excellent! There are awesome restaurants in the area especially on E. 4th Street. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Grounds are clean and very nicely maintained.

Beautiful

By CRMays |

IU is a beautiful campus. The trees, flowers and manicured grounds are gorgeous. The art throughout is nice as well. It is a very large campus, but the bus system seems to work well. They are continuing to remodel buildings and dorms, which is making it even more appealing.

Beautiful campus....if you are nearby, go take a visit

By rgstrip |

One of the prettiest colleges campuses you could ever visit. If you find yourself within a 30 minute ride, worth the visit. Or, go to a football game and see some fun tailgating.

Pretty but did not meet the hype

By Ian H |

I had heard just great things about how beautiful it was. It's not as nice as UVA or UNC in my opinion. The building are all gray limestone. Looks gothic and kind of dreary. The people and program all seem first rate. I'm sure it's a great school.

College drop off

By Andi H |

IU had well marked signs for drop off zones across campus with security helping with parking. Campus was pretty busy and traffic on 37 is rough. Be prepared

Well maintained and gorgeous campus

By psudino |

We were in town an decided to explore the campus. I really enjoy seeing the usually unique architectural styles of these large institutions and IU has one of the prettiest styles I've ever seen. The buildings have an imposing and strong stature that reminds me of a typical movie set college setting. The campus is very clean and the layout is certainly student focused. The town/gown relations are clearly an important part of campus life too.

Very pleasant Big 10 University

We toured campus during the covid pandemic and printed out a self guided walking tour. IU Bloomington is a beautiful campus, well kept and easy to walk around. Friends who have gone to IU all agree it’s an amazing school!

Go Hoosiers

By AllenTravelers |

Beautiful campus and building architecture. The buildings that we went into were as grand on the inside as they look on the outside. Many small areas for the students to sit and study, meet their friends or have conversations throughout the campus both inside and out. Kelley School f Business has an excellent ranking.
Football stadium not as large as some we have been to, but they do not lack school spirit......it was filled and loud with the many Indiana cheers.

Really nice school

Morning walk

By Cello12345 |

Staying at the Graduate Hotel, we decided to take a walk on campus first thing in the morning, before checking out. It's a great place for a walk! Just past the gate, there's a "forest" with many nice pathways to explore. We found a historic church, with a stone walled graveyard - some of the stones had dates in the 1700's. The campus is huge - we clearly didn't see all of it that morning. Maybe next time!

Beautiful

By TheHungryHikers |

Amazing architecture, park like setting and an awesome place to walk or ride a bike! If you've never been it is worth taking a couple hours to explore. Take even more time if you want to explore the buildings, art galleries, etc.

Beautiful Campus. OMG

By MoChen89 |

The most beautiful campus ever, happy to be attending. Bloomington is such a charming city with just enough to do.

Indiana University in Bloonington

By bfindysz |

Classic town and gown campus in a rural Midwestern setting. Beautiful woods in the heart of a quad full of old buildings of red brick and Indiana limestone used to construct the Washington Monument in Washington DC. The student union was inviting on a cold winter day with place to relax and sip a cuppa. Great for a slow stroll with lots of public sculptures along the way.

Most Beautiful Campus you'll ever see!!

By seattlescoop |

Come on! It's IU! I mean nature-like campus with lots of great architecture and history! Beautifully wooded walks through campus filled with art and the hustle and bustle of student life walking through campus. It's a large campus but easily navigated through different trails through campus and can walk straight to downtown area with great restaurants and shops! You cannot miss seeing this beautiful campus, you'll fall in love!

Beautiful campus to walk around

By TCTraveler |

Beautiful campus to walk around. Several "hidden gems" and plenty of great restaurants immediately across the street from campus on the downtown side.

Great place to visit. Many interesting places to visit. Many interesting people to meet, very friendly.

Orientation

By Gfmclemore1974 |

For the most part this was very organized and flowed smoothly. Some of the discussion was a little dry or not so on the hook. I would like to have seen more of the full time staff speak and answer questions, especially when it comes to health care and financial aid. I know there will be one on one time, maybe, however the problem exists when the same question is asked or when not everyone is around to hear it because it’s one on one counseling.

There needs to be better organize activities after dinner. We were lost and really didn’t know where to go so we ended up going back to the hotel.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!

By janicetyler |

My daughter came for a visit and instantly fell in love. I had to come back with her and check it out myself. Its such a huge campus integrated within the city, WOW

Stunning Campus

By Ignotus |

IU Bloomington has some superb academic programs, but I'd rather comment from the "non-student" perspective. The campus is one of the most beautiful in the world. The variety of architecture is fascinating. The "landscaping" is magnificent and superbly maintained. The university hosts an amazing variety of performances. The opera theater's stage is the size of the Metropolitan in NYC (and with better stage equipment). The IU "auditorium" is a spectacular Art Deco masterpiece, reminiscent of Radio City Music Hall. Opera, ballet, symphony, chamber music, organ recitals, plays, touring shows - a cultural and aesthetic triumph. For food, there's a bewildering variety of restaurants nearby, and the IU Student Union features elegant brunches in the Tudor Room. And yes, one can get a fine education here too.

Good Student Familiarization Tour

By Paul M |

Because our son is interested in attending IU this Fall, we spent the day in Bloomington having traveled from Maryland. Although quite cold, we had a great tour of IU from the university staff and students. The student familiarization briefing/video was good, although it didn't allow time for questions for the IU staff. We were able to ask questions to the students who hosted the tours, however.

Interesting and beautiful Campus to visit

By Jeremy C |

The campus had a variety of architecture for viewing and photographing, but most of all the iconic clocks located along the paths. Unique series of bulletin boards spread across the campus at varying intersections made for an interesting culture / bulletin of current events.

Nice campus with lots of green space

By imoxymoronic |

We strolled through the campus after having lunch downtown. Although the school tends to sprawl out over a very large area, there are many beautiful green spaces to enjoy.
The Thomas H Benton murals in the auditorium are well worth seeing.

Highly recommended

By youssef aitha |

One of my favorite place in United States, calm campus, beautiful city and nice people. I cannot wait to buy a visit again, ho ho ho Hoosier.

Snowy Weather

Beautiful campus, hilly terrain, lots of trees, presumably lush green in Spring and summer, with explosion of colors in the Fall. We just missed the arctic storm which had engulfed the midwest, which I encountered few days earlier passing through Chicago.

Auditorium for Daniel Tosh

Audotorium is nice, the place was packed but was still comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bathroom was clean.

Grab your favorite hot beverage and take a stroll

By Sara D |

This really is one of the most beautiful campuses I've even seen. It's perfect for a fall stroll through the old quad near Kirkwood, or to see an amazing performance on Jordan from the Jacob's School of Music or our theater and drama department. I always love a stroll through campus and feel relatively safe doing it as a young woman. In the spring time visit the Union to grab a picnic and head out to Dunn Meadow and watch the students and campus life pass by. Another favorite of mine. And when you're looking for a bite to eat, head back toward Kirkwood and try 4th St, full of all sorts of world cuisine.

Beautiful campus, many amenities

By JSWeyek |

Beautiful buildings, convenient walking paths, many green spaces including a creek winding through the property and some small, quiet wooded areas. Opera, concerts, movies as well as a nice art museum.

Had a great time. Way more people than expected. Everyone working the event was wonderful. All the new features to Assembly hall since the last time i was here were very nice.

Great place to visit

By midwesterner5 |

We live in town, so we get to enjoy each day what visitors can also experience. One of the nation's nicest campuses, park-like in some ways. The old end of campus has Dunn's Woods set against buildings from the late 1800s. You can follow Jordan Creek from west to east, a park-like walk. And of course there's an art museum and one of the world's largest music schools, which has about 900 free recitals per year. I would try to stay in the hotel at Indiana Memorial Union, near Dunn's Woods and center city. The union is one of the country's classic campus buildings.

Extraordinary Campus

By Jersey Girl |

Must be one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world. Students are gone because of winter break making the town and campus eerily subdued but the winter frost dusting the trees, lawn and Indiana limestone campus buildings make for a inspirational walk thru campus.

beautiful campus

This is the most beautiful college campus I have ever visited. It is easy to walk around the campus. There is even small forests 🌳 on campus. All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful.

great people watching, great strolling, take the kids to the river!!

By gazooby |

I work at IU so I'm biased. But this is truly a lovely campus, one of the most beautiful I've been on, and a great place for a stroll with friends and family. For families with little kids, I recommend the Jordan River, the creek that runs through campus. Just east of the student union (IMU) are some lovely grassy banks for a picnic, with shallow places for chasing minnows and creek stomping. For seniors I recommend the Lilly rare books library, with small circulating exhibits that feature the library's star collection. For anyone in between there is too much to mention, and you'll have to discover it on your own. As you explore this great campus you'll find a welcoming attitude and a lot of smiling people. Final shameless plug: Send your kids here to college!!!

The Gorgeous, World-Class Centerpiece to Bloomington

By The Autistic Traveler |

Well. I’ve lived in Bloomington for my entire life, so I’ve had the chance to set foot on the Indiana University (IU) campus thousands of times in the last 18 years. I feel confident I know its ins and outs, secret entrances to its historic buildings, best places to study, best photo op locations, etc etc etc. So yes, I may be biased as with anything you grow up with for decades. But IU has won the awards. IU has shown such impressive contribution to quality of life and betterment in terms of facilities and small fixes like bumps in a sidewalk. IU attracts a diverse, invaluable resident population. I doubt anyone would criticize the positive influence the campus has on the feel and outcome of Bloomington as a city. So grateful I live so close to an amazing urban amenity!

Since this is a review of a “broad” attraction (not a zoo or museum if you know what I mean), I’m going to leave it at that and also mention a few pointers for visitors in the future. I’m actually going to just list them numerically, because why not:

1) IU, again, is very historic and prides itself on maintaining first-rate facilities for hundreds of years. Thus, it can be difficult to access wheelchair-accessible entrances, but NOT impossible. Impossible would mean violating ADA requirements; not the case here! Just ask if unsure, and anyone employed at the university or anyone familiar with the area will guide you to a ramp. Ramps have to be attached to every building, but they may be behind the main doors. With technology nowadays, there will be easy tools to locate accessible entries.

2) Very related to accessible buildings: sidewalks and roads maintained by IU are generally in great shape. Which is admirable and shows their commitment to accommodating everyone! I cannot think of any tough spots for wheelchairs except for what I call “hidden steps.” In some portions of a sidewalk, especially near streams or away from roads, a few steps will lead up or down to adjust for elevation or a bridge or something. Don’t worry, as obviously there’s a way around! I advise wheelchair-bound travelers to use caution, but there is no need to constantly fear tumbling down stairs of course.

3) Perhaps, just perhaps, travelers who are used to restaurant-rich campuses in San Francisco or Chicago will encounter a lack of food options physically on the IU campus. The nearest places without leaving IU property are dining choices at the Indiana Memorial Union (check out the Union by the way!), which include a coffee/pastry shop and establishments like Baja Fresh, the Crimson Grill, the Chocolate Moose (famous Bloomington ice cream), and pizza/salads/drinks in a food court (all these are accessed on floor M). Also, I should note that gift shops are on the M floor too, which are your go-to for IU gear. But other eating spots are either in various libraries or school buildings, and Lennie’s, Mother Bear’s, and a bar called Bear’s Place are not too far on the perimeter of campus. IU IS HUGE! Do take that into account, so walking to different addresses is possible but demanding.

4) An add-on to #3: Kirkwood Ave and the heart of Bloomington’s commerce are moments away from IU. Travelers must must view the iconic pillars defining Sample Gates, and visiting Sample Gates fits perfectly with branching out into Kirkwood and the city. Starbucks, Noodles & Company, Kilroys (bar), Which Witch, Chipotle, Village Deli, Pourhouse Cafe, Nick’s English Hut (bar-type place), Osteria Rago, Cafe Pizzaria, Farm, Blu Boy (decadent chocolate shop), Uptown Cafe, and a few ethnic restaurants are ALL on Kirkwood. No shortage of food, folks!

5) The last point I’ll mention is the true luxury you can take advantage of at the IU Auditorium, IU Cinema, MAC, and other venues. World-famous musicians, Broadway-esque musical performances, and international symphony orchestras spend time at IU regularly. The MAC, affiliated with the prestigious Jacobs School of Music, brings in Joshua Bell-level soloists and orchestras playing pieces just as you’d hear them at Carnegie Hall. People from Germany and South Korea and Brazil and in between flock to IU to become visiting ambassadors for not only music but film and theater and and opera and...endless talents! I need to remind myself of that much more since I live in such a global community.

In conclusion, Indiana University is the centerpiece of Bloomington. You can stay at Lake Monroe, Oliver Winery, near I69—but you’d be missing the defining piece of this town. I recommend staying long and involving yourself as much as you can on the breathtaking campus grounds.

Only IU fans enjoy Bloomington

By WanderLust |

Rode through here many times on bike. People there drive like maniacs and have almost hit us multiple times. Don't go to the restuarant in town unless you plan on walking because there is little to no parking. Walking down the streets and was almost shoulder checked. I hate when IU alum leave reviews because they are biased. Bloomington is a drive thru only city for us.

Indiana University

By Sura T |

A beautiful historic campus. The landscaping alone is enough reason to walk the grounds. The buildings are wonderful to look at. The new Global Studies building is particular interesting.

Beautiful Campus - Great location

By PhillyFamilyofFour |

Did a quick college tour of IU. A family member is deciding between this school and another. The limestone facade on the majority of the building is quite striking as is the architecture which is stately and mansion-esque. The student center reminds me of a large estate house that was converted for common use. Kelley school of business located in Hodge House was a spectacular design. School has amazing theater and arts facilities. Large campus so wear your sneakers ! Cute town. Go Hoosiers!

Beautiful Campus...Great Architecture

By Joy G |

This is one of the prettiest attractions in Bloomington. The buildings , the gardens and landscaping make this campus on of the most beautiful in the Midwest. There are so many different attractions with theaters, live music from the Jacobs School of Music. There is a fantastic restaurant called the Tudor Room in the Student Center. The food and the ambience is excellent. Sunday buffets are a real treat. One could spend more than a day on this campus with all the wonderful things to see and do. Make sure that you visit this campus, which is really the heart of Bloomington. Have been here many times and never a disappointment.

Beautiful campus

By Kathryn N |

We came to Bloomington for a Straight No Chaser concert and we're excited to visit the famed campus. We arrived after the first snow of the season, which made the campus even more beautiful. I was impressed with the campus and all the open space and ease of getting around. As with most college campuses, parking can be tricky. They have several parking garages if you can find them. They have great bike paths in B town. Great campus, great city!

Beautiful Campus

Wow - Indiana University has one of the most beautiful campus' that I have ever visited. It is like walking through a botanical garden. If you have time - visit the museum, it is great with lots of ethnic material from the Minoans through modern art. If you visit Bloomington, the campus is a must to visit, not withstanding a great place for study.

As a proud graduate of Indiana University, any trip to Bloomington is a time to reflect and remember the great times at I.U. as a student. The campus is beautiful at any time of the year. Athletic events are full of Hoosier Spirit. Take time to walk along Kirkwood Ave. to see what has changed, and what has remained for countless graduating classes at Indiana University!!!

Beautiful and a Place for a Great Education

By vjcg5 |

Although the school is surrounded by miles of farmland the town of Bloomington is at your feet just outside the perimeters of the campus.

IU is a large campus of about 47,000 students but because it is on about 2000 acres it does not feel this populated. Consider that once you pick a major---you will only need to be in a select area of the campus as the buildings are major focused. And there are so many majors to choose from and the fact that IU can boast being in the top ten in the nation for many of their schools is quite impressive.

I was surprised not to see a lot of students hanging around. Everyone was very friendly and I was surprised just how quiet the campus was. I'm sure the dorms are louder. The campus is surprisingly walkable. I doubt the common gaining of the "freshman fifteen," will happen here as there is a good amount of waking to be done. There are buses around the campus as well when you need to go a further distance. In addition, there is a bus from the Indianapolis Airport so your student can get back and forth for the hour ride to the airport.

The Student Union houses a large eatery, Starbucks and a bakery. There's are several rooms for comfortable sitting and there is a special living room space with a fireplace where I saw many students relaxing and studying. Again, it was very quiet and everyone was very focused on what they were doing. For entertainment here there is a theater, and a room with several pool tables and a bowling alley. There is also a movie theater on campus as well as the MAC center for live performances. I loved seeing the space where a student can go for a quick massage or just go to sit in the zen inspired room to relax. There is also free wifi throughout the campus.

The town of Bloomington has another theater and lots of shops and restaurants. Of course we saw at least one loud bar within the first block of the school and I was disturbed by the congregation of vagrants/homeless(?) right across the street from this location. It was a bit unsettling as some did approach to ask for money. I did at one point see one of them inside the campus as well. We did also see police officers walking this street so that was comforting.

Overall a very positive and inspiring place.

a view in itself

While we didn't have a chance to do this; I do recommend checking out the performing arts calendar. Walking around the campus is a great stroll including the various trails.

Still the prettiest campus on the planet

By rjwolfe |

Even if I am a biased alum. When the leaves turn brilliant, it's breathtaking. And there's always good music available, most of it for free. Go Hoosiers!

Breathtaking beauty

By Cindy Y |

There is a good reason this is considered one of the 10 most beautiful college campuses in the nation. The landscaping details on every corner with the backdrop of Indiana limestone is like no other. After walking the campus you really feel like you have been somewhere. The Eskenazi Museum of Art, Lily Library and Memorial Union (largest on the country) are all close together for a nice couple of hours of entertainment. Summer and fall and the best times to see the campus at it's best. Icing on the cake is the football stadium and the iconic Assembly Hall.

One of My Favorite Universities to Visit

By rimjhim1 |

This is truly a first class university in every way. They have an amazing digital strategy driven by an excellent Chief Information Officer and a President who is a former Chief Information Officer. The campus grounds are beautiful and the town of Bloomington caters to the university in a big way. The university is surrounded by restaurants, mall, and shopping. The Blue Springs caverns with an underground boat ride are about 35 minutes away. Most of the faculty are world class scholars in their fields.

Excellent school and beautiful campus

Indiana University is a star example of a school in a rural setting and town. Particularly the Chemistry department is outstanding. The campus is beautiful. Fun to walk around campus.

Hoosier Hospitality -- at its best

The students and the professors. Hoosiers are the best at making you feel welcome of any place I have ever been.

Nice campus

By LostInTime |

I’m taking my kids to see a bunch of campuses as they decide their plans. Personally I thought this one looked the nicest out of what we have seen. It’s old and looks just great.

Beautiful Campus!

Beautiful historic campus with a terrific art museum on site, as well as a wonderful library of ancient and historic documents. Great public spaces. Very lovely setting and buildings. Near numerous restaurants of many ethnic varieties. Excellent theater/music programs. Wonderful educational opportunities in many different subjects.

Beautiful sprawling campus with streams and walkways

The Indiana University campus is a lovely place to visit and stroll through. There are plenty of sidewalks, streams, flowered trees, and street lamps to enjoy. My daughter attends college here and loves it as well. The campus is open to the public and easily accessible.

Memory lane

Spent the morning walking around campus to see the buildings. We did research at the Geology building many years ago. It was fun to take photos and remember the good old days. The Tudor Room is as beautiful as ever!

Beautiful campus!

I attended IU from 1995-2002. Couldn't ask for a better post-secondary experience! The campus is beautiful, the professors are top-notch, and the culture and community is unbeatable. I visit the campus on return trips to visit with family at least twice a year.

Beautiful!

Wow-walking around this campus was such a treat. It is absolutely beautiful with the older buildings and it's nicely laid out. I asked my parents why they didn't bring me here when I was looking at Colleges.

Brought a first timer to IU

By Thomas T |

I graduated from IU and come back to Bloomington several times a year for various reasons. I am constantly telling people what a beautiful place the IU campus is and the usual response is "that's because you went there..." or something like that. I brought a friend with me recently and she was one of the naysayers until she saw IU and walked through the Sample Gates and toward the Union. It was fun saying, "see I told you it was awesome!" With so many things to do at IU and in Bloomington, it's well worth the trip!! Enjoy IU.

Beautiful Scenic Walk

By Mary K |

Beautiful campus. Lots of really nice walkways, landscaping, and beautiful older buildings. There were a few little bridges over the waterways with a ton, and I mean A TON of fish!

Beautiful campus

By Alan D |

Took my daughter to music camp at IU. Over the past few years we have been to several universities. Most are really nice but so far this has a very nice campus with really nice people . There are many good hotels but if you want nice and reasonable go to a choice hotel property there is a comfort inn and a Quality inn near by. Also many good restaurants to choose from. If you have a teen l would check out the campus.

Graduation 2019

IU is festive and fun at graduation! Plan hotel and dinner reservations as early as possible! Bring rain gear if rain in forecast! Graduation is in the football stadium!

Beautiful Big 10 campus

Beautiful Grounds

What a gorgeous place to stroll through on a sunny day! The woods in the middle of the plaza make one feel they are miles away from civilization! the pathways are easy to navigate and the campus is a great backdrop for a phot shoot.

Beautiful campus but parking here is ridiculous

By DaniG454 |

We came for a college visit and loved the campus but the parking here is ridiculous. would come again if there was free parking offered anywhere

Gorgeous campus, dedicated faculty

By carlene q |

The midwestern jewel of a beautiful campus will keep you coming back for it's friendly, enthusiastic, energetic feel while opportunities to study quietly in one of over a dozen libraries, the student union, or meet a professor on a bench or over a cup of coffee. Best college experience.

Beautiful Campus

Visited in September and campus was beautiful. Bookstore was very nice and had lots of great deals. I didn't go on a tour but just walked around on my own.

Awesome Campus but visit could have been better

By Charlie M |

Two things hit me funny about our visit was one we had to park blocks away when the starting and ending point of our visit had an empty parking lot adjacent to the building. And this was during the remnants of a Hurricane dumped rain on Bloomington. The second thing was the main presenter spoke so fast and hardly took a breathe with the huge amount of information she gave over an hour long presentation. I was like Huh? Slow down!

Went to a soccer match.

By Gary E |

The university was very nice. There are a lot of interesting things to do in Bloomington. A lot of nice parks

Lovely university

By Bowmanator22 |

While in town for business, a friend and I decided to check out the campus of this well-known institution. The architecture of the buildings is nice, and there are plenty of walking paths that traverse the streams that flow through campus. Had I been from Indiana, there’s a good chance I would have seriously considered this place for school after seeing the campus.

IU for Sarah

By AquaBarb |

Very enjoyable visit w/freshman granddaughter - hopefully the 1st of many. Nice campus; dorms brought back memories of my college dorm room long ago - not much changes over the years in the size, decor or excitement of the new adventure being 1st time away from family home.
