Had a Gniess hike in the land of.......

By Rick B |

….1000 pictures. That's about how many I took in the absolutely stunningly gorgeous park. Gniess (pronounced much like the word nice) , is the main bedrock of this place. And it is pink!. The trails here are well maintained and laid out to hit all the best spots in the park in a single 5 mile loop. The camp grounds were nice. I drove through the regular campgrounds and although trailer space appeared tight in some sites plenty of room between sites and many lake front sites were available. There is also a walk in primitive area that I hiked through. Sites looked good and there is a creek behind them where you can get water if you bring your filter and purification tablets. There is a restroom in the primitive area. The park also has cabins for rent and a camp store. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Now why all the pictures? Besides the beauty around you there are dozens and dozens of unobstructed views along the hiking trail. Big Texas views! So If you are a lifelong Texan appreciate this one it's fabulous, if you are planning to visit Texas put this on your list and if you are a new Texan like myself then get out to Burnet and check out Inks Lake. There is a 6 dollar per person fee but it will be 6 bucks well spent.

Nice trails, but poorly marked.

By Dick P |

The hiking trails were nice, but poorly marked. The park needs a lot more trail signs. The trail map was pretty much useless. The lake is pretty.

Scenic and peaceful.

We had a wonderful time here. There are a lot of cool rock features to look at while you float on the water and some of them you can even jump off of! The water was a little murky but that's the only complaint. Friendly staff helped us find the Devil's watering hole.

Beautiful!

Perfect place for stargazing! We were lucky that the skies were so clear, we saw so many stars! Definitely worth taking the trip out there!

Water adventure- but campers beware

By L W |

Let me just start out saying- I'm on a mission to visit/camp at all of TX state parks and this is about the 6th one we've been to in the past year.

We went on a tues-thurs.....just to avoid weekend crowds. It is a large park- it was crowded but not to the point it was uncomfortable.

The devil's waterhole was the most unique thing about the park- jumping off of cliffs was something I left up to the kids. (I had to hold my breath each time they jumped the 30 ft fall- yikes!). And to all those park-goers out there- please pick up your trash- it's not park personnel's responsibility to clean up after you.

We rented a canoe and a double kayak and paddeled the lake for close to 2 hrs ($15 an hour for canoe/kayak/peddle boat)- we saw turtles, herons and fish. Kids loved it- and we took our small dog with us on the canoe.....the park rental store said that pets are welcome on the canoe- definitely a plus!

Camping: I'm a seasoned tent camper- camping here was not comfortable. The site we were at- and most all sites I saw were grass barren and strictly dirt. I hate dirt camping- it gets in your tent, all over the kids, you're breathing it in, it gets in your food, you have to shake everthing off before packing it back away......needless to say- give me a patch of grass and a tree for shade and I'm good. Ants-ants-and more ants......yes biting texas fire ants everywhere- you can't escape them anywhere at the campsite.

We attended the star party they have almost every night- cost $4 a person unless you have a parks pass which it is then $3 a person. Very interesting and informative- the kids liked looking through the telescope and listening to the presenter which made the experience even more fun.

They do have air-conditioned limited use cabins right on the lake- for $50 a night.....you need to call and make advance reservations. Summer months are brutally hot.

Overall- not the best texas state park to camp at.....but still has much to offer for day use.

Camping @ Inks lake state park

By Abby J |

A great place for campaign, hiking, fishing, boat riding. Our family loved spending time here. Make your reservations a head of time. Make sure you pack for your campaign trip well. Stores are a bit far.

Great spot for camping and kayaking!

By Jill G |

Well worth the $6 day use entry fee! Well kept and cared for park, campground and lake. We thoroughly enjoyed the two hours we spent kayaking on the cool and serene lake.
Lots of campers and tents but the lake was surprisingly uncrowded. Quiet Sunday morning in a beautiful location.
Will be back soon!

Lovely lake and nice camping

By Jay F |

In some respects I hate to make great comments about Inks Lake because it is already pretty busy and there isn't much room for more campers most weekends, but it is a lovely park with nice hiking trails and pretty good fishing. All in all a great place to spend a few days camping.

great drive

The lake was a fun drive and had a great time. The lake is beautiful and park rangers were the best. Lots of boats and things to rent at the store and the cabins were great,

Nice state park for hiking, fishing and other outdoor pursuits

By Brad 🇭🇰 |

This is the state park at Inks Lake, around 10 miles from Burnet in the Texas Hill Country. Park fees apply, day use can be paid for online prior to your visit. Daily use fee ($7 per adult) Otherwise, you can use the state park HQ. Office hours are 8am to 5pm daily. The park itself is open from 6am to 10pm every day.

Inks Lake is a flood control lake so the water level varies little. Visitors can enjoy boating, kayaking, swimming and fishing on the water as well as 9 miles of hiking trails and camping within the state park. There is a park store where you can rent paddle boats, kayaks and purchase supply for camping or fishing needs as well.

I recently spent a morning in the state park, enjoyed watching a couple anglers land bass and sunfish from the south pier. Also took in a couple of the hiking trails including the Lake Trail and the Pecan Flats Trail, a nice roughly 3 mile walk upon elevated hilly land to the south of the lake where there are some nice viewpoints. Quite a few does and a couple of fawns seen on the morning as well.

Love this lake! We have been going to Inks Lake for years. Our family says this is a must. Get a Texas State Park Pass because it is a great value for you and also helps the Texas State Parks. The staff is always friendly and super helpful. You can go for the day or stay 2 weeks and not want to go home.

Perfect Thanksgiving getaway

By Tlynn C |

We decided to have a nontraditional Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful fall week in Texas. Inks lake state park has great hiking trails. The interpretive trail is about 3 miles long but very informative if you take along the little information book. The Devils backbone Trail is a great hike too. All of the campsites are well-maintained. Each one has its own fire pit which was nice on the chilly nights. The park also has boat rentals...canoe, kayak, paddleboats. You can take a spin around the lake in a boat.

Nice Family Park

By Judy C |

We just returned from a weekend trip at Inks Lake. We got there after 4pm and the park was nearly full so we didn't have many sites to choose from. We ended up at site 250 which worked out ok because it was the rv site closest to the trail leading to Devil's sinkhole, which is where our kids ended up spending much of their time. The site, however, was extremely close to the campers next to us. Their kids were our kids ages and hit it off well so again that ended up working out. Otherwise, it would've just been way too close for comfort. There really is a lot to do at this park and it has some amazing views. We will definitely return, hopefully next time we can get one of the wider sites near the main part of the lake.

Weekend Getaway

Great view of the lake after hiking up granite rocks. We saw lots for camp sites. The map can be confusing since the sites all look alike.

GREAT TIME WITH WATER SPORTS

By Dawn D |

We camped at nearby Canyon of the Eagles resort (Inks Lake was sold out). We enjoyed renting kayaks and traveling to 'the Devil's Water Hole'. We went on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was much more crowded and made it hard to navigate the boats around the swimmers. Sunday, most of the campers had moved out, so it was more enjoyable. We found that even when crowded, people were friendly and we had a great time jumping off the rocks.

There was a nice lake store that had quite a few items (water shoes, drinks, etc) and we also enjoyed the food truck that was nearby.

Heaven on Earth

Been camping and using the cabins now for 23 years! My kids started here in diapers and now bring their college friends here. We have also had family get togethers and my parents who are close to 80 now never miss a chance to see the park! This is a must on your bucket list!!!

Our current favorite

By MrsAmanda87 |

Inks Lake State Park is a place we've been for day trips and camping several times. We started going in February of this year. My husband and I were scouting for an anniversary getaway. We took our then 3 year old. She loves it! There's hiking, fishing (you can borrow gear if needed), and different activities with the park rangers. During one stay, my husband and I joined others for a night sky stargazing. The park rangers provided a telescope and commentary and taught us many misconceptions and true info on astronomy. Better than expected! There's a nearby cavern, Longhorn Cavern, which we checked out during one trip as well. Plenty to do for all. They have tons of campsites, including RV spaces and 'cabins'. The one downfall is that you can't reserve specific spaces with a reservation. So get there bright and early if you want the best spots!

Amazing trails, rude staff.

By 547corat |

We camped in site 043. People cut across our campsite; between the picnic table and our camper. We have dogs and wanted at least some small aspect of privacy, so we parked our truck a little askew to deter people from walking through our site again. A park police officer came by shortly and explained to us that we couldn't do that (we didn't know). When we told him why we had moved the truck, he told us that people can walk anywhere they want to within our site. As a matter of fact, I was awoken the next morning to an unsupervised young girl playing right outside the steps of my trailer. As we were leaving the park, we noticed several vehicles parked askew, so apparently they pick and choose when to enforce that rule, as well as many others. There were loud teenagers at the Devil's Waterhole who were cussing loud enough to be heard on all the trails in that area and they had a large dog roaming off leash. The only reason I would ever return to this park is strictly for the amazing trails (and they were absolutely outstanding). My advice to anyone booking a site at this park, do not get water front unless you welcome people invading your space...because it's not your space according to the park's authorities. We were in site 043. Look for sites more in the trees if you value quiet time and your privacy.
Also want to mention that when we checked in, the gentleman working the entrance was not friendly or welcoming at all. He even told us that when we leave, we need to leave early because the dump station line always backs up 45 minutes to an hour. We went to the dump station at 8:30 AM Sunday and no one was anywhere near the dump station. So, it may have been good advice to heed, or maybe that's what they tell you to encourage you not to hang around.

Just beautiful!

By AliseUntamed |

Stunning views! Many trails to choose from, of different lengths and difficulty. Well marked, but make sure you look for markings on the ground not just eye level signs. Lots of trash cans which I find nice when traveling with a dog. Trails are well maintained. Lots of trees, grasses and lots of vistas and rock formations to see. 1 water crossing if you choose a particular trail. The bird blind was well done. Dogs are allowed in the park but not NEAR the bird blind.

Outstanding vistas and water falls. Stunning nature and scenery and Swimming!

By Lori G |

Must hike along the NEW Devils Backbone trail and swim at Devils' waterhole! The Park Road is stunning and hilly. The Friends of Inks Lake State Park help the Rangers weekly with educational programs and keeping the park clean.

Surprising waterfalls!

By lovesaustria |

We hiked the Devil's Waterhole and were so please to find the deep waters (and teens jumping in from high rocks) and the trail continued on to other sweet and peaceful water falls. Beautiful place!

Beautiful hill country lake!

By LLaff |

We planned a trip with friends over the New Year break to Inks Lake State Park. My husband and I rented a camper from RVShare.com (We absolutely love using this site!) and had it delivered there. Booking the site through the ReserveAmerica.com app was super easy and we also used it to book our day passes to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

The first 2 days of our trip was super wet and cold, even had snow flurries one night, so we spent it inside the camper hanging out in the warmth! Once the weather cleared on the 3rd day, it was still cold but sunny and beautiful! We ventured out around the lake taking pictures and scouting out the trails. We made it over to the Devil’s Waterhole which is a “can’t miss” feature at ILSP!!! What a gorgeous place! This is where some of our goofy family members decided to take the “polar bear plunge” into the frigid (54 degree) waters below. Clear water and beautiful scenery everywhere we went. The park was super clean and the staff and park rangers were very friendly and polite. We used the shower/restroom facilities on-site instead of our trailer for our longer showers and “longer” restroom breaks. They were really clean and spacious; nicely heated with abundant hot water.

The lake is gorgeous with clear water and wildlife everywhere. We were able to get firewood, ice, and odds and ends from the general store on-site. We even decided to purchase/pickup our Texas State Parks pass here!

We can’t wait to visit again in warmer weather!

Ink-credulous

By AirstreamR |

We're here for four nights, with three other RVers from Bandera. Our spaces are directly on the lake, awesome sunset views. Amazing that checking in on a Sunday that they are turning away guests because they are full. Looking forward to the next three days
of projected sunny and 70+ weather, hiking and canoeing. We WILL be back.

Great hiking trails

By Janell H |

Had wonderful hikes with husband and 11 yr old granddaughter, beautiful scenery and very nice trails - some are pretty challenging - rocks etc. My walking sticks saved me many times. we have not hiked in many years but found if we took our time we did ok.

GREAT camping trip for the family

By Katty W |

Ink's Lake is amazing!! They have it all, camping, fishing, hiking, boating and swimming!
We stayed in the electric/water sites even though we tent camp - it was a little noisy and crowded. We are going back in January and will stay in the water only sites. We hiked all trails (10miles with our dog). The hike was not too strenuous, but make sure you have enough water! The views are amazing and make sure you take the time to go to the Devil's Water Hole!

Bummer

By Gaby |

Be aware....We drove 3 hrs to visit Ink lakes state park and WITHOUT A RESERVATION ( with a camping site) THEY DONT LET PEOPLE IN. We begged them to let us in for a 1hr hike but they said NOT without a Camp site reservation ..☹...their first openings are on Jan 4.

One of my favorites

By Kimberly Z |

Probably one of my favorite state parks. We camped in a travel trailer and had a site right on the lake. The sites are fairly close together, though. There were mostly tent campers during our stay. It was spring break so fairly crowded. This is a popular park so it is usually crowded any time of the year. Great hiking trails that are just right for small children. We also rented a canoe and paddled around the lake.

Hiking

By Taylor K |

Visited while in Marble Falls on vacation. I recommend booking day passes ahead of time. We would of been turned away if we hadn't. We did not enjoy the water due to the toxic algae in the water. We were traveling with our dog and the algae levels were too high at this time. There were several people enjoying the water, kayaking, paddle boarding, and jumping from the rocks at devil's waterhole. We did hike to the overlook and really enjoyed our time in the park.

Nice getaway

By Josh T |

We took an afternoon to visit the lake while staying on Lake Buchanan for the weekend. Inks Lake is a much better option. Although Inks Lake is smaller, it stays the same water level all the time, so it has avoided the droughts. Also, there are several trails with different degrees of terrain, so there is more variety. Definitely worth a day trip for some hiking and kayaking on water. Don't forget to try Devil's Waterhole for some adventure!

GReat hiking trails

By Eric W |

We were limited to what we could, due to the nonstop rain. We still managed to hike around 3 miles and had a blast. Love the rock formations and multiple elevation changes. Definitely will go back

Activity For The Entire Family

By Robert S |

We spent the weekend at Inks Lake SP to spend time with family. The park was alive with hikers, bikers, swimmers, fishing, campers, paddle boaters kayakers, and most important chillaxers. The hiking trails offer a variety of challenges. The staffers and rangers were super helpful and we avoided the bad weather predictions. No wonder this is a favorite destination.

Great park!

By LjGarcia |

Inks Lake SP is a great park to visit for the day or camp overnight. The park is very clean and the views all around are very nice. They have a store inside the park that has drinks, food, fishing supplies, kayak/canoe rentals, etc. It's a great place for family and can be a good place to just camp out with some friends. Just make sure to be quiet after 10pm. You can also bike and hit some trails in the park .. just be ready for a rocky terrain. There are also plenty of places to fish which was the main reason for us visiting. With Inks being a constant level lake it is always good to fish there. Not like other parks like Choke Canyon which is currently on a low level. Taking Park Rd 4 is a fun ride on the hills and turns, especially that steep drop where you feel you are almost going to nose dive into the road. Longhorn cavern is a few miles on Park Rd 4 if you want to catch that before Inks.

A great state park for all ages

By wbird2281 |

This is a terrific state park located in the beautiful Texas hill country! It is well-maintained, has guest friendly staff and lots of natural resources to enjoy. The campground and bathroom facilities are clean and recently upgraded. I can’t recall any other state park where I’ve had a truly hot shower! Trails and bird viewing area are well maintained with plentiful signage. The natural resources are abundant with trails in open and forested areas along Inks Lake. The park store has just about anything you could want for supplies and touristy items. The park also rents canoes, peddle boats, kayaks and standup surf boards. I understand that weekends and summer is extremely crowded. The park’s website has online reservations with photos. Plenty of camp sites available on the lakefront.

great water sports area

The park is local recreational center for water sports and fishing. It's very popular place with thousands campers. Lake is beautiful and nice for stop by.

Hiking and Swimming and Cliff Jumping

By Jerry C |

This is a beautiful Texas Hill Country park with a flowing creek with waterfalls and some pretty hiking trails. The little cabins had cold air conditioners and double bunk beds with a BBQ pit just outside. Great weekend get-away.

Great Camping

By Mayra D |

1st time at Inks Lake and we liked it a lot, unfortunately we went when it was cold and didn't get to enjoy any water activities. We camped for 2 nights, our camping area was nice and clean, restrooms and showers were nice and clean as well. There is also a store where you can buy snacks, fire wood, and all the good stuff. The hiking is nice, trails are not too crowded and the hikes are not hard at all. I would definitely come back when it's warmer.

Wonderful State Park

If your looking for a wonderful place to enjoy with your family, this is the place. Beatiful views and very tranquil just to relax and have fun.

Fun, not rowdy

By Dallasmax |

Most visitors come with their family, and/or extended family, towing travel trailers. The lake is roomy enough for swimming, boating, kayaking, or just swimming. The brave venture to Devil's Hole and dive from 15' or 40' cliffs. Book early to get a lakeside spot. Scope it out first because our slot 255 was slanted toward the shore and it was difficult to stay in our chairs.

Relaxing

By Robert M |

This is an awesome “base camp” for seeing the area. We set up in site 288 on a finger just across from the main store and boat launch. It was a very calm area of water and close to the Devils Waterhole - a great spot for swimming and watching people jumping off the rocks. Although our site was convenient and had lots of shade, the sites closer to the swimming hole had better views and better lake access.

Over our three days in the park we visited Longhorn Cavern, less than 20min away, and Enchanted Rock, about an hour away. On the way down, we stopped at Dinosaur Valley SP for a visit. On the way back to Dallas, we stopped at the Woolly Mammoth National Monument.

A great trip.

I could spend a month here

By Sp435 |

This is one of those places where you will not use your cellphone and just sit outside to feel the breeze. Places like these are hard to find and a must visit destination!

By Connie W |

Our whole family loves this park. Not only is it visually stunning, the facilities are well-kept and clean. The hiking trails are also great.

On occasion my husband and I will get a cabin mid week and almost have the park to ourselves if school is in session.

Great swimming hole

By 6isenoughforme |

Visited this State Park with my husband and 5 kids (ages 10-15). We hiked a few trails and then visited the Devil's waterhole. Kids and husband had a great time jumping off the rocks into the water. There were plenty of picnic tables at the entrance to the Devil's waterhole trail and also there are restrooms near this same entrance. Entrance fees were $6 for adult (ages 13 and over). 12 and under were free. We visited on Labor Day and thought for sure it would be crowded, but it wasn't. Hoping to go back soon and take advantage of the camp grounds.

Nice camping getaway

By Carla R |

I went here during the week in September. I had a perfect site right on the water. Did a little kayaking and a lot of hiking around the lake. Very friendly staff at concession store. They have cabins as well. I tent camped. It was a wonderful way to get away from the city for a few days. I am sure it gets crowded on weekends. People started arriving early Friday. I would definitely recommend this place. I felt safe being here by myself. Will go again really soon.

Fantastic camping along lake and beautiful March/April wildflower hikes.

By K B |

There are MANY fantastic campsites that are along Inks Lake shoreline. These campsites face northwest so the sunsets are just beautiful. Many have their picnic tables and campfire sites right next to the lake. The restrooms that are open are very nice and clean but be warned that two restrooms are under construction and not open. So if your campsite is near them it is a long walk to take use them. The hikes we took were very nice also. We hiked them in late March and they were just beautiful, full of many wildflowers and vistas. I will say that the hikes are mostly open to the sun and would be very hot during the late spring/summer months so make sure you take lots of water. Even in late March when we took the 5 mile hike and it was in the high 60s/low 70s we were very happy we brought water. The only real complaint I had and this is with all the Texas state campgrounds is that you could not reserve a specific site. I overheard someone that this will change next year but I am unsure of that.

By Maria S |

Awesome park had lots of wild life ,from mice being chased by snakes to deer sniffing your tent. Good swimming friendly help..just all around good experience. Lots of boulders and stone so need padding for sleeping.

Good trip - loved our campsite

By dc20142014 |

We went tent camping at Inks Lake after much research. There were not lots of trails, but we camped on the lake and it was beautiful and relaxing. Put up the ENO and took a nap in the shade. Bathrooms weren't the best, but doable. Plus I will say, the employees were always nice and very helpful. Mid week was quiet and peaceful. Friday afternoon things changed. Radios started playing, dogs started barking, and kids started screaming. One family even blew their whistle over and over and over! So we were very glad to be leaving Saturday morning. Would go back mid week again.

Great for a weekend trip - PRIMITIVE CAMPING & TRAIL REVIEW.

By MoMan |

They actually pick up the phone. I called before driving there. Reserved a primitive camping site. Requires TSP membership or $6 pp fee. Lots of RV campsites There are tent campsites but these are always reserved so good luck finding one on a short notice. These are mostly on the side of the road, lots of people, bicycles, not the best spot to experience nature. I recommend one of the 9 primitive sites (named A through I). You can park your car in the lot inside the park, and then walk about a mile and a half on the trail with your bags/tents. OR, you can park temporarily where the trail crosses the road (see photo) and split the trip into half (recommended), then take the car back to the lot for overnight parking.

Primitive campsites are well separated. Wooded. Quiet. Compost toilets available but NO water. Campfires NOT allows (at our campsite C, the previous group had left remains of a small campfire - not cool). You can pitch more than one tent but only 4 people are allowed per site (though there is ample room for a bigger family at each site). They told us this area is not patrolled but we saw a park ranger truck drive though slowly during the night. You can hear some animals howl at night - but they are in a distance. Bring a sleeping pad to put under your sleeping bag as the ground got really cold at night).

In all, we had a great experience. Seclusion, peace and quiet. Highly recommended for novice campers. This was our first primitive experience and we loved it.

Perfect Camping Weather!

By VDAustin |

We absolutely loved this park...especially our campsite 279! It was nice getting there early to pick your camping spot, however the only downfall is that previous occupants have until 2pm to clear out. Luckily, the guy who was at our spot left at 11:30, so we only had to wait an hr and a half. We took the time to walk around, take pictures, etc.

Staff was friendly, except for the guy at the entrance who "greets" you and tells you where to go. Restrooms were fairly clean, but could use a leaf blower to blow away spiderwebs in the corners. Hot showers were a huge plus!

All in all, I have to say we had a great time and our camping location was perfect. We had enough room between other folks, so its not like we were right next to other people. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful park to relax, climb, and take pictures

By janels |

First, there is a lot of walking involved, so you need to be ready. My watch read 2.66 miles when we got back to the car, and we didn't even complete the entire loop to go behind the falls. A couple of other caveats: there are bees, and lots of them, especially around the Devil's Water Hole. Secondly, the paths can be somewhat random and it may not be entirely clear that you are even going in the right direction. Also, there is no shortcut to the falls...you just have to walk for a long, long, time. That all said, it is a lovely place!

I think it would be a mistake to swim there, as the water quality can be questionable. When you walk the trail beyond the Devil's Water Hole, the terrain can be a bit challenging, especially if you elect to climb the rocks to get a better overlook of the falls. This should be done on a cool day. We went on a day we thought was going to be cool enough, but it got to 82 and was very hot and uncomfortable.

The information center is very helpful. They drew the route on the map for us and even gave us the gate code to enter the bird blind when we were driving back. We did go in, and according to the map it should have been just about at the other side of the falls, but we didn't see any obvious trail other than the bird blind, so were too tired to take a chance on a long walk again.

What an awesome park!

By Nightstalker50 |

We camped here for a week and it was awesome. Our normal spot is Garner State Park but Inks lake will be our #2 from now on. Great place to swim and hang out, didn't see any leaches which has been reported before. Jumping at the Devils watering hole was an experience in it self and a must do and see. The park is close to several big town and grocery stores so you felt close to anything you might need. Already booked our memorial day trip to return to the park.

Nice but hot

By BobB |

Wish there were more tree covered lots but very enjoyable. Asphalt covered site pads with water and electricity. Dump site available. Easy to walk or bike around. Beautiful lake. Paddle boats and canoes for rent. Can now make reservations 5 months in advance. Will be better prepared next time.

Nice park. Little store is well stocked. Little hot and muggy lots of shade trees to help cool you. Lots of families camping. The mini cabins are nice.

One of the Best State Parks in Texas

By Robert Bailey |

Behind Garner State Park, this is the second best place to visit as far as state parks go. Clean, safe, convenient, and absolutely wonderful. Once you stay, you will see what I mean! You Must Make Reservations Ahead of time. I can't stress this enough! We love this place. The lake here sent my wife into labor with our last child. She was so relaxed and at peace while we where here.

Five day tent campin trip.

Always friendly staff, flexible campsight arrangements, great kayaking and hiking, but not a lot for mountian bike's.

Beautiful fun day on the water!

By Mansfielders |

We were in town for spring break. This turned out to be the favorite of all of our day trips that we took from a nearby cabin. We returned two more times during the afternoons. The kids really enjoyed jumping off the rocks into the water. Additionally, the waterfalls were beautiful, clear and great to swim in (water shoes are recommended). We didn't camp there but we saw some very small, basic cabins with a couple of sets of bunkbeds and an air-conditioner that were available for about 60 bucks. Very pretty park that seemed to have good hiking, camping and a nice lake. Longhorn Caverns is right up the road! Highly recommended, we will be back:)

Beautiful park

By TravelingGranny3 |

Large park with camping and picnic facilities. Lots of hiking trails for all levels. Fishing opportunities in the lake. Licenses are not required within State Parks. Beautiful views.

Big State Park

By Renee B |

I really like this lake for all the things to do. We camped in a tent and it seemed that we were on top of one another. Not much privacy. We were in site 219 which had water and electric y. We were in the shade, but not much of it. The bathrooms were clean, but not well lit. We went fishing and the park lets you borrow fishing poles and stuff, but we didn't catch anything, although we had fun. There are lots of picnic tables and family things to do...paddle boat, boating, fishing and a playground. We saw Roadrunners, deer and rabbits. This is a great family camp ground. We'll be back and hopefully we'll be near the water and with some privacy.

RVing at Inks Lake SP Texas

By Blogen G |

Many years ago we discovered this wonderful Texas state camping park and have returned often. Reservations are required to be assured of a choice site.. any site at times. We often drop in and sometimes a cancellation opens a site. The routine to stay without a reservation, even for another night, begins at the office 'before' 8am when the line forms. Take note of your place in line and be sure the others are aware..

Our personal favorites are near the reservoir lake, not far from the fishing pier (there are two), where we can fish without a license, sometimes from our RV doorway. Cabins are available. The Texas State Park Pass is worth the expense, as a few free nights enter the equation, along with the entrance fee waved. Tents are like a city of themselves toward the south end. Children love this camp ambiance, where they have freedom to interact with parents and family. Bring bikes, this place is big and has lots of trails.

Ducks, Coots, Geese, Squirrels, Lots of Deer and many interesting birds with their unique songs, including the beautiful Caracara (Mexican Eagle). We have been fortunate to be there as the 'Scissor Tails' migrate through. Their 'dance' in mid flight is memorable. Chris Landing on the commons, offers excellent burgers and chips (check schedules), along with 'Star Parties' on clear evenings.

Rental canoes, pedal boats and kayaks at the store, make visits to Devils Hole (lots of turtles) fascinating. The water is clear and held at fairly constant level by nearby Buchanon Dam. Burnett is not far and always has something of interest. We often tour the circle through Marble Falls on days of leisure. Whenever this park is full, they recommend Black Rock on Buchanon. Not nearly as marvelous, but still very nice in spite of drought low water levels. DaFlikkers. blogspot has story of recent trip.

Beautiful, plenty to do, friendly staff.

By LesMcQ |

Inks Lake State Park is a gem. It is a perfect blend of quiet hiking and family-oriented water fun (paddle boats, canoes, kayaks for rent, fishing from a pier). We camped in April and wildflowers were everywhere. The staff was friendly. The campsite were clean and had a little space around them. The camp store had everything we forgot except pillows. We enjoyed a Geocaching 101 class presented by the park. A terrific way to spend a weekend.

Nice, well-marked trails

By Jaime D |

My husband and I were actually staying at the Canyon of the Eagles Resort about 30 minutes away and we ran out of trails to hike, so we came to visit Inks Lake. WAY better trails here!

I really liked the signage that was throughout the park, and I thought the trails were well-marked. Every so often there is a painted dot on a rock or a tree that helps you know you're on the right path. I liked the variety of landscape (we were there when wildflowers were in full bloom), from rocks to lake to forest.

We also treated ourselves to a snow cone and root beer float after our hike (food trailer/vendor). They have a great covered patio at the "general store" and we enjoyed a nice breeze and shade.

This is a nice State Park in one of the more beautiful areas of Texas

By Jeff S |

Well maintained. But very popular!

My favorite area of the park is the Southwest corner of the lake (Campsite numbers in the 300's). It's a bit less crowded and slightly more secluded.

This lake always seems to have ample water - even when other lakes are low. Not sure why that is the case.

Last tie I was here I saw a beautiful Roadrunner run through the campsite I was near.

Inks Lake State Park

By TexasTravelingChick |

We enjoyed visiting Inks Lake State Park for a few hours. You can rent kayaks, canoes, or paddle boats there. We rented a 2-person kayak, but were able to put our 3 year old son in the middle because they had a seat that you could clip onto the kayak. It costs $20 for 1-2 hours. It's a pretty lake and the water is fairly clean (compared to what we get in Southeast Texas). There is lots of scenery to see. The only downside was that the rentals closed at 4:00pm. We had to pay to get into the park, but did it online in advance so we didn't have to worry about them running out of space.

simply amazing

By Adrienne S |

This is one of the best state parks I have ever been to. The park is clean and well kept. We camped and the camping spots are spaced nicely so you are not right on top of your neighbor, even with the park FULL it was quiet and peaceful. The hiking trails are well marked for he most part and show off all kids of bio-diversity. You can be in the forest or in the rocky plains. Kayaking in the lake was great. I will be returning many times to this little gem.

Great outdoors with water activities and good hiking

By Arvind A |

We spend one night here in a cabin. Did some hiking and explored the park. Very nice landscape with great scenery. Good diving water hole. The cabin is limited use with 2 sets of bunk beds. Includes a small table with 4 chairs, but nothing else. Need to bring linens and pillows. Has A/C and heat. We stayed in cabin #2 which has a good wi-fi coverage. We also watched DTV PBS station using an air anten. See the photo of the antenna hookup.

Beautiful park on a lake

By Aundreeuh |

Nice big rv spots on a pretty lake and access to the Devil's Waterhole. Gorgeous grounds, rocky and lush, wild flowers and lots of birds. Good walking trails and bike riding. Rentals for kyaks, boats, etc. No sewer hook up at sites but that's pretty normal at state parks. We really enjoyed camping here.

Gorgeous & Peaceful

By BonnieNimmo |

Serene RV spot, large spaces, easy access, lots of activities and plenty of bathrooms. TERRIFIC place to set up RV or camp site. Take the kids!!

Beautiful place

Its a wonderful place for a day trip as well as night trip... great campground and night star show is wonderful...

Inks Lake State Park - great for all ages!

By Elipor |

Swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking, etc. It is a beautiful park with lots to do but large enough that it didn't seem over crowded.

Always enjoy our stay

By Brittney F |

We have camped here before & loved it. This time we camped for a couple of nights & then moved over to a cabin. They have lots of great camping site, with a lot of the on the lake. The lake is great for swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing or whatever you like to do. Devil's waterhole is a must when you are at the park. There are some nice hiking trails. Staff is always very nice. The park is clean & so are the bathrooms. It's also a great location b/c it is pretty central to some other state parks & lots of other fun stuff!

Enjoyed a pre lunch stroll along the lake

By LaraLS |

We all had a good stretch midday. Nice to share some nature with our family.
Perfect weather and few other people. Good for the soul.

Great camp sites

By Roberta W |

This is a beautiful lake and we enjoyed the RV campsites in a previous visit. Well maintained, clean restrooms, and helpful "park hosts."

Little getaway

By Jessica G |

We decided to spend our Labor day in the Austin area and came to Inks Lake on our last day to see how it was. Our kids ages are 6,9, 13 and 14; they all had a great time for the 3 hours that we were there and all minus the 6 year old jumped off the cliff. My husband jumped off the biggest cliff as well. Scenery was great and we will definitely make a longer trip of it next time we go back.

Beautiful, but no wifi, or cable available,no alcohol allowed.

By univac123 |

My husband and I enjoyed 4 days here in our RV, but beware no sewer hookup on RV sites. You have to dump on the way out or intermittently depending on you party and RV tank size. This was probably the worst thing about the park! The park offers kayak and paddle boat rentals. We probably wont be back, mostly for the fact that a ranger can come and check your cooler or hand and if you have alcohol you will be ticketed.

Family friendly park perfect for all ages and all seasons.

By Linda F |

The constant level lake is a Hill Country oasis in Texas drought conditions. Water activities include swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boats and of course boating and fishing.

Devil's Waterhole attracts adventurers, who jump from Chicken Rock, which is balanced on a granite looking cliff, into the pool below.

Geologist frequent the area to study the formations, and get a close look at a variety of rocks. Longhorn Caverns is a short distance away and a nice day tour.

The Park Store rents Non-motorized boats and sell supplies and refreshments. You can also borrow a fishing pole and tackle box to use during your stay at no charge.

We found the park staff to be friendly and helpful. They conduct weekly activities, including evening paddling trips, kids kayak clinics, Geocaching workshops, Night Sky Parties, and Fishing with a Ranger events.

Hiking trails wind thru the park and campers can enjoy lakeside cabins or campsites with or without utilities.

Picnic tables in the Day Use Area are adjacent to a playground, swim area, and nearby restrooms with showers.

The updated address for your GPS is:

Inks Lake State Park
3630 Park Road 4 West
Burnet, Texas 78611

Summer water activities, Fall just right temperatures, and Spring wildflowers make the park the perfect all season destination.

Large sites, good hiking, scenic views

By Rebecca W |

We really enjoyed our recent trip and had a great campsite with "beach" access. Ducks visited us every day, there were deer, and other wildlife. We enjoyed all of the hiking. We have swum in the Devil's Sinkhole area before, but this trip was too cold for swimming.

Loved it

By GriswoldsNj |

So serene . Loved by the fishing pier passed gate house and hike through devild hole and up boulders to small falls. Very nice

beautiful State Park

wild flowers just gorgeous, rivers of color covering the hillsides. Many different kinds. General store a pleasant and refreshing break after hiking

One of the best Texas state parks

By Grace W |

I purchased a Texas state parks year pass and have been to about a dozen so far. This is one of my favorites. It was beautiful. Even the drive to get there, all the winding road with the blue bonnets. It was still too cold to go swimming, but definitely want to go back when it's warmer.

Good basecamp to visit the Hill Country and Wine Tasting

By Billy K |

In a lot of ways it's just another State Park. Some of the pluses are that most of the sites are fairly level. Some come with good view of the lake, but most of the sites with a view have a slope to them. In addition, some sites are closer to each other than what you may like.

An additional plus is that this is a good basecamp to visit some Hill Country Vineyards.

Although we visited several, the only one I will call out here is Torr Na Lochs (just. few minutes away). They have some good wines and the view is awesome (especially at sundown). You can see the lake/campground from there.

The only real negative is that State Park Road 4 is more like a thoroughfare and the road noise was annoying at times. However, the later it got, the quieter it got.

Overall though, you're likely to enjoy your stay

Loved it and can’t wait to come back

By Runrgurl |

Decided to come for a day during our spring break. We planned our day about 10 days in advance and got our pass. We hoped for better weather but it didn’t happen. It was windy and cold for me to get out on the lake to kayak. We did fish and hike and had a blast! It’s a pretty park and very clean. We will definitely come back again and stay for more than just a day visit.

Beautiful park with great campsites.

By Bob S |

We tent camped here. It is a beautiful park with deer, ducks, and geese. The park staff was very courteous, friendly and helpful. The campsites were clean and nice. We hiked to the bird blind and saw cardinals, mockingbirds, and some others we did not know. The waterfalls were flowing and gorgeous. Definitely recommend this park for camping, hiking, boating.

BEWARE - no say in the space you are assigned

By cyparker |

Apparently with the new reservation system you are assigned a random space and have NO say in the space you are assigned. this is so frustrating because we made these reservations last year and I even check with the local office about certain spaces. Ugh!

Pretty park, great hiking with well marked trails. Dog loved it!

By Diedre C |

This is a nice get away from the city. The trails are shaded, it's a good hike and not overly difficult. Lots of wildlife. Didn't camp but the facilities looked nice.

Family fun in the sun

By Tarhinson |

We LOVE going here! During your stay you have to jump off the rocks at Devils Waterhole. When the water is up, just past Devils is a waterfall. There is also some great hiking trails at Inks. I suggest forking over the money and getting a park pass. It allows you to enter the park for free and you also get a discount at the park store. There's also a great boat launch right next to the store if you have a boat or jet skis. Our family enjoys this park every year!

One of the Best State Parks in Texas

By Bryan B |

Inks Lake State Park offers something for every member of the family. The kids can go "Fishing With a Ranger", escorted hikes are available with times posted and night programs that identify the stars.
Since the Park is a very short drive from the house, we enjoy driving out there just to go to the Park Store and get an ice cream bar then sit at one of the stores tables and watch the campers.
The boat launching area is spacious and at a slight grade making launching easy. Since the lake is a constant level lake, it is easy to simply park your boat close to your camp site leaving it in the water.
Down below this review is a block to check "When did you visit?". I go out there all year long and enjoy each and every visit. So, I'll leave the block as visiting in July 2016.

Inks Lake SP

By Terry |

Great hiking trails & wonderful waterfalls.
Beautiful campgrounds.
Wonderful area to kayak.
Friendly park staff.

Beautiful setting -- no pull through or sewer hookup

By Walter E |

Beautiful location Almost every site has trees and is convenient to a shower/bathroom installation. No pull through sites. Lack of sewer hook up requires a trip to the dump station every few days. Arrive in daylight if at all possible. It's very easy to get lost in the campground and may of the back-in sites have odd angles and trees that seem to reach out for your vehicle even in daylight.

Very nice

By Richard W |

His park is great with the exception that most bathrooms are under construction and there ports potty instead! But I assume most will be open befor summer time 2019

Beautiful Park

By Anil M |

Beautiful Park. Fun for entire family. Just did not appreciate the park rangers acting like hall monitors, coming up and checking everything like you are gangsters. We were a small family sitting, talking, etc.

Wonderful state park...camping

By kreed3552 |

Camped two nights on the banks of Ink Lake. Outstanding camp site for my small RV. Nice hiking trails, bike friendly roads, and lake access for all activities: swimming, fishing, kayaking...
Only negative was that restrooms, although rather modern, we're not cleaned regularly.

Great weekend getaway from Austin

By Swati P |

We booked a cabin at Inks Lake State Park. The cabins are very basic and limited use. Our cabin was lake facing and the view was awesome. We really enjoyed our stay.

Day trip

Has to be one of the best state parks in Texas... Beautiful area. Will need to return with the camper and spend a couple days here.

By TXmammoo111418 |

We've been coming to Inks every summer for years since the kids were little. These are some of their greatest memories as adults now. We're still coming but only us two in this season of 34+ blessed married years. Summers are wonderful in the beautiful lake and Fall is equally beautiful sitting by the campfire. Campsites and cabins, we've enjoyed them both. Excellent Park Store! This is a must see Texas State Park...over and over again!

One of the Best!

By mrsjvankirk |

Inks Lake State Park has something for everyone! You can hike, swim, fish, kayak, paddle board, or just sit at your camp site and relax.

Definitely one of the best State Parks in Texas

By John F |

Inks State Park is definitely one of if not the best State Park in Texas. It is located adjacent to constant level Inks Lake on igneous and metamorphic rocks (granite, gneiss, and schist) that comprise the heart of the Llano uplift. The location is beautiful. This park has almost everything anyone could want including numerous reasonably priced good quality RV, tent and primitive camping sites; air conditioned sleeping cabins; several bathrooms with cold and hot running water, flush toilets, and showers; a good swimming area; kayak, canoe, and paddleboat rentals; decent hiking; a great bird blind, a wonderful day use area that has numerous grills and shade structures; a nicely stocked camp store; an area where you can jump off cliffs into the lake; and lots of other stuff. The staff here are know their stuff and are helpful and friendly. This park is very popular and is routinely full or very nearly full during the summer; however; the park is very well laid out and I have never felt over-crowded here. A very nice park that I recommend highly.

Nice park ,an only an hour from AUstin

By DKinaustin |

I love the state parks here in Texas, and this one is only 1 hour from Austin and there is plenty to do there.Hiking, fishing ,swimming, tanning, etc. Lots of camp sights for tents and allot for RV's(RV's on one side of park). This park is loaded with Granite outcrops, much like Enchanted rock state park, great place if your a rock hound.,lots of trees and cacti .Butterflies?,there were close to 10,000+ butterflies out there when we went(October)there.Swimming?,YES,the whole lake is just to the west of the park, some camp sights are riht next to the water, great for a late night swim, but there's a great swimmimg whole, called the Devil's Hole.Deep and dark and cold, with high cliffs for jumping into.Park is very busy in the summer, but after Labor day it thins out.

Scenic, quiet, well-kept.

By texastraver2019 |

This was our first visit to Ink's Lake State Park. We really enjoyed it. The facilities are modern and clean, and the sites are spacious. The new bath houses are almost complete, and they will be amazing. During the week (when we stayed), this park is very quiet and peaceful.

The new reservation system allows you to reserve a specific spot.

Beautiful, friendly, and clean

By BrianTX |

Loved this trip to Inks. We went during the week and found a beautiful tent spot right on the lake. Our second night the temp really dropped, so on our final night we switched to a cabin. The staff was super friendly and the experience was very restful. Our only caution would be around the restroom and shower facilities - make sure you check the showers by your camping area... we didn't much care for the older ones we could walk to from our tent, but a newer building down the road was much more private and in better repair.

A beautiful park

By Karen G |

There’s plenty to do here for 3-4 days. We’ve had a great time hiking, although it’s been cold. We just layered up and took off. At just $23 per night for our RV it’s a cheap vacation. It’s been very quiet. The spaces are a good distance apart; park staff have been very nice. We love it here! No sewer but there is water and electricity. Some spots do have sewer though.

Favorite Camp Grounds

By Sandi R |

We have camped at Inks Lake State Park for many years and are never disappointed. The camp sites are well situated being far enough apart where you have privacy. The bathroom and shower facilities are always clean. In recent years they have added some shower rooms that are perfect for families. We can take our grandson to the showers and both go in to help get him showered and dressed.

Easy,fun camping

By Klaws097 |

Beautiful views and friendly staff. My son and I had a blast camping! I highly recommend Inks Lake State Park

My Stay Campsite #61

By Misty S |

I gave the park 4/5. The only cons I have about this place is 1. Our campsite wasn’t mowed when we got there. Grass was a little high for my liking. 2. Our setup in spot #61 had a weird layout and I’ve never seen this at any state park. The door to our camper was on the opposite side of the picnic table and fire pit. It was just weird to us. 3. Camp sites are really close together and you hear everything from other campers. I prefer more seclusion.
Pros about this place. Bathrooms are exceptional and clean. Swimming areas are great. A little mossy but once you get past that it’s fine.

Diving

By SPIFtWorth |

We went to dive and swim in the park. There were a good amount of people. I'd bring a tube next time and water shoes. Many people jumped from the cliffs including my kids.

Day Trip

By LadyK104 |

Finally got to visit this park and it was beautiful! We went for the day so I can't comment on the accommodations, but the campgrounds look nice. Also saw that they have cabins which look to have window units. The park store has all kinds of stuff and that is also where you rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. We swam both at shallow end (North Fishing Pier) and at Devil's Waterhole (bring things to float in as swimming in the deep can get tiresome). And don't forget watershoes. Entry fee to park is $6/person and rentals are $15/hour.

Pecan Flats primitive camping!

By Michah C |

My friend and I went primitive camping for the weekend. We had never done it before and had never been to Inks Lake. When we arrived, there were people outside directing us where to go and made it very easy. Inside, the woman that helped us drew a map and explained every little detail! It requires a lot of hiking but if you are wanting a rugged, camping experience - Pecan Flats is a good option! There is still a clear road leading to the camp sites, which are far apart. We were at site 7 which had a cool creek behind it and was right next to the "restrooms". There is toilet paper in there but no lights and it is kind of a seated hole in the ground. The only thing that was kind of annoying was we could not have a campfire but we utilized several flashlights and didn't have a problem. We did have raw meat but we kept it in the cooler and were able to cook it the next morning. We were able to hike back to our car and go to the main camping area where there were several picnic spots and grills available. We also kayaked and had a really great time. ALL of the staff were super nice, friendly and accommodating! Renting kayaks were super affordable. The little store there has a lot of cool stuff. Overall - amazing trip.

Amazing

By Jennifer L |

Love this place. We tent camp and the spots are beautiful. Lots to do on the lake like canoe, paddle boats, kayak, and a swimming area with cliff diving. Park store is great and very friendly. You can check out a fishing pole for the day for free. Many different classes offered. So far we have done the dutch oven cooking class and my son participated in some arts and crafts classes. Great family fun. Don't forget to bring your hammock. This park is VERY popular so book sites early. RV's are also welcome. The day use also fills up fast. Great family place. My 7 years old son never has a problem finding something to do here.

Beautiful and full of things to do

By Peter L |

Inks Lake State Park is one of my favorite state parks in Texas. It is so beautiful being right on the water and surrounded by Texas hills. It is a relatively large park with lots of acreage. I have camped there with my RV several times and there are numerous beautiful spots to camp and each spot has a picnic table, fire ring, water and electric hookup. Some spots have no one next to them and offer amazing privacy or you can opt for company if you prefer. The park store is nice with most of the common things you might need and also rents canoes and paddle boats. The only downside is that the park is very popular (I was told it's the second most popular state park in Texas). Of course, this means that on weekends it's booked like 7 months in advance so if you can take some time off during the week that's the time to go. We went on a Sunday thru Wednesday and the park was nearly empty. The hiking is great with lots of really cool sights and water holes and during spring the grounds are absolutely covered with breathtaking wildflowers. So plan early, but definitely go and enjoy the beautiful Texas hill country.

The flowers are AMAZING right now.

By Pennsylvania |

Oh my gosh, there are wildflowers of EVERY hue on these trails. Just beautiful - don’t miss it. They said that it is due to a fire and then rain. Because of the fires, a lot of the trails are open and in the sun, so bring sunscreen, wear a hat, and take water. Lady at the park store was super friendly when we went to get a drink and snack after hiking (nice shady breezy porch there, too!). Also, be sure - if you like birds- to visit the bird blind. Even if it’s not the best time of day for birding, it’s just great to see and experience.

Great fun!

By Ronda R |

Beautiful, clean and most relaxing time we've had in a long time. Park is very well maintained and staff was very friendly and knowledgeable

Great place to camp/hike. Campsite, showers, and restrooms were clean and well maintained. Would come back.

Private Primitive Camping

By Sara J |

We had some struggles with getting the reservation (I don't know that we were working with someone from the site or not). We were wanting a space that would be minimal for hammock camping, but originally were placed in an RV spot (and we weren't told. They let us transfer that day without penalty. Although the primitive camping sites were a bit of trek in the very hot sun that day. But it was fun to see the local scene. It was wonderful to get so much privacy. I just wish we had more time out there. We trekked back in that evening to use the grills for dinner (exhausted from the heat), but it was surprisingly calm, despite it being Cinco De Mayo. The staff at the front as well as the store were very friendly and helpful. I didn't sleep a whole lot, but the sky was beautiful and lit up brightly.

Beautiful Scenery

By hospitableme |

I enjoy hiking moderate trails. This park offers great trails and beautiful scenery. It was chilly when I was there, but I would definitely revisit to enjoy the water at a warmer time.

Note:
Covid restrictions in place, so I recommend making reservations in advance. Keep an eye on weather for an enjoyable experience. Check in advance when planning visits during hunting season as this can affect availability.

Great state park and well taken care of

By Laurie W |

We loved this park. Stayed in the cabins and they were super clean and lovely waterfront. State park police were well presented and kept order in park on a very busy weekend. Boat ramps were in amazing condition. The only downfall is that the rentals of canoes and kayaks were closed due to Covid. Personal opinion is that they should open it up and if the park visitors sign releases, then let them rent the stuff. If no one rents (which I doubt) then the American people decide if a business is open or not. I would have rented a kayak for a whole day and used my own life jacket. State park could start making some money back from being shut down for much of 2020. Please open it back up.

Wonderful Lakeside Camping!

By 2xtxmom |

Inks Lake State Park is our favorite state park! There are so many large lakefront camping sites! Don't miss Devil's Waterhole!!

Nice place to camp, pity about the park police

By warwickp |

There is a decent chance the bully from your high school ended up as one of the Park Police here at Inks Lake State Park. You can feel their deep enjoyment as they enforce the draconian rules in the park. You will likely encounter one of these park cops during your stay there, and I'm betting you will not enjoy your encounter one bit. They will, though, they live for this stuff. Good luck, park police, you've earned your right to harass people every damn day, and I know you love it.

Great camping spot!

By brennie g |

We rented one of the cabins for an overnight visit...very clean and well kept. Lots of good views and they offer everything from primitive to RV camping. The bathhouses and restrooms are very clean and even heated (we were there in Feb. so very welcome on a cold morning). Definitely going back!!!

Great family get a way

By Carla M |

We take are RV's there and the sites are nice. The lake can get a bit crowded but it is beautiful. It is a great place to take the family.

So much to do!

By Crm413 |

So much do to! We have two younger boys, age 5 and 8. They loved jumping from the cliff and Devil’s Waterhole (their fav activity!) and also renting peddle boats and boating around the lake. We are already looking to go back to again!

Good Camping, Good Swimming, Good Canoeing

By Pollard3 |

Texas State Parks are generally well maintained, and this one is no exception.

We like that the Park Rangers ensure that park rules are followed, it reduces the chance of a ruined vacation by rowdy neighbors.

Although the water-side campsites are hard to come by, there is still plenty of access to water. We enjoy swimming, hiking (be sure to get the hiking map), canoeing, and, of course, camping at Inks Lake.

Camping

By Andy K |

Get there early to save your spot to camp. Waterfront pads are limited and usually you will need to reserve months in advance for weekends.
Join the Texas State Parks pass and save money on your stay.

Relaxing campground!!

By 258judypa |

Our second visit to Inks after many years. Campground is clean & quiet (even when booked at capacity). Many hiking trails for all levels. Lake is beautiful for swimming, kayaking, or paddle boats. Only disappointment was that Catfish Barge restaurant on Inks is no longer open.

Beautiful!

By clongttu |

We found the perfect hike for our family - Pecan Flats. Challenging "enough", but easy "enough" for our 8 and 11 year old. Saw several deer along the way and followed the interpretive guide, as well.

Very nice park for camping, boating and fishing

By jayo0556 |

We were traveling through the area and stopped in to visit the park. It is one that we will be going back to when we are in the area. There are cabins available for rental along with lots of other camp sites. Many of the sites are on the lake. While it is not one of the biggest parks in the system, it is very attractive.

By Nick B |

My daughter and I spent some time swimming and cliff diving at the devils waterhole in inks lake state park - lots of fun and we felt perfectly safe jumping as long as you jump as far out from the cliffs as possible. What ended our day? A water snake of unknown type came calling and chased everyone out and that was it for us. On the trail back we saw a baby tarantula in the wild which was interesting and disturbing at the same time. Friendly folks there and good facilities overall highly recommended !

Great place for a family

By Joannbradfield84 |

We have a one year old daughter and this was the perfect park for us. Several of the hiking trails are short so I was able to do them with her. The views were spectacular. Our campsite was perfect, everything was clean and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely be going back for another visit.

Great hill country camping

By 5unshines |

Get there early in the day to get a campsite next to the lake. Be sure and take a kayak to Devil's waterhole for some cliff diving. They have low cliffs for the kids and really high ones for the dare devils. Or just go and watch everyone else jump which is fun too.

Beautiful State Park

By texastarmadillo |

My sister and I planned a four night stay in our tiny 14’ camper. Check in was easy and they were helpful helping us pick a spot. We ended up staying in #48 which is right on the cove of the lake. Really close to the park store and boat rental. We loved sitting outside watching the people in the canoes, kayaks and paddle boats. There are many ducks and geese that walk and swim nearby. Kids can just walk right in and play in the water in most sites on the lake. No lifeguards.
The shower nearby wasn’t what we wanted so we drove and found showers by the cabins. The shower section is on the backside of the bathrooms. Each shower has its own door. It was so nice to have all that room and the water pressure was good. They have two brand new restroom/shower buildings being built right now on each side of the park. You don’t see new buildings that much at state parks so that’s super exciting for them.
Park store has everyday things plus a huge selection of shirts and gifts. You also rent your boats here.
Only one hiking trail is open due to a recent fire.
We loved it here as it’s beautiful and it’s close to so many other state parks. Our goal is to hike them all.

Great hiking trails!

By stoogeg3 |

My family and I went to experience the hiking trails. We started with an easier trail that easily wound through beautiful scenic areas. Then we tried the trail that was higher up that led to a waterfall. It's a trail a more experienced walker should take because you have to navigate over many rocks with steep inclines. You pay a daily extraneous fee but for seeing the beauty of nature it's worth it!

A fun day in the heat

By dee562015 |

A comfortable drive from Temple Texas, this was a great park to visit. So much to do and see! Alot of areas for camping, swimming, fishing and equipment available for renal. Had fun watching people boating and floating on rafts and jumping off rocks into "devil's waterhole. Clean, easy hiking trails and facilities well placed throughout the park. Park store well stocked and staff very friendly.

Delighted with this state park!

By RMc179 |

In a recent trip to the Hill Country, we had Inks Lake as a "maybe" on our itinerary. Well, after stopping in for what was to be a quick afternoon, we decided to devote two whole days to this gem of a place! Swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking were all GREAT here. Each park ranger we spoke with was courteous and welcoming. We did not find the prices to be bad at all, especially when we rented equipment. I wish people would stop throwing their litter in this park, though. Found this park to be much better and more family-oriented than other parks in the Hill Country.

All around great outdoor place to be

By Katherine G |

Ink's Lake has, over many years, become the place for our family to plan several tent camp outs during the year. The staff and Hosts are always polite and helpful. Bathrooms and showers are plentiful and clean. Tent sites are roomy with fire pit and grill, easy water access at sites w/water. A number of sites are close to the lake so we are able to tie up our pontoon boat close by. The folks at the Park store are an exceptional bunch!

One of the top parks in Texas

Love to hike the pink granite hills at this park. We prefer the older quiet side to the more open side with all the concessions.

Natural Beauty

A bit of everything for everyone. A family treasure. Great for day use or for camping. The shelters are very nice for families.

Great State Park for Fishing

By strivingtorelax |

It is a very nice state park. This is the first time we had been there. There were lots of nice campsites and some small cabins available to rent. The cabins appeared to have a set of bunk beds and a table with two chairs in a small area. There are also some picnic areas for day visitors. There is a nice trail to walk along by the water. It is not very long. You can take a longer hike, however, but this one looked a bit challenging to me, since it had some rocks you had to hike up. I did not attempt it. It has restrooms with showers that looked very nice and clean. The views of the lake are beautiful and many people were fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. I would like to come back with an RV and stay. On the way to the park on the park road, you pass a rest stop that has a fabulous view. Be sure to stop there.

Almost perfect!

By greggtex |

Beautiful lake, great activities for all ages, great giews, wildlife.
If restrooms were a little better it would be 5 stars.
Deer, duck, geese, squirrel and more. 10 mins. From Longhorn Cavern.
Kayak, canoe, pedal boats.

Definitely coming back!

By thatgirl2 |

We only stayed 1 night but it was enough to make us want to come back again. We had a great site close to the water to launch our kayak. Couldn’t take the kayak in towards Devils (?) as we ran aground. Only about couple feet of water even in the middle. Will try again next time. Enjoyed a bike ride on the roads around the park. The hiking was incredible. Wanted to wander longer but it was getting late.

Beautiful park for hiking, camping, and canoeing

By Allison B |

We love to come here to canoe and hike. We bring our out-of-town guests to appreciate the beauty of the Hill Country. It is especially nice because it is a constant level lake and you are sure to be able to enjoy the lake. The friendliness of the volunteer staff in the store is great too!

Beautiful

By Waunderlust |

We honestly LOVE this park! Every trail we’ve hiked so far has been so pretty!!! We always stop by when in town.

Beautiful Lake

By TheRealJ0E |

We decided to check this lake out on a recommendation from a local restaurant owner.
Perfect choice for a relaxing time.
There were plenty of ducks and absolutely beautiful water. The opportunity to relax was welcomed. The scenery was magnificent.
The only reason for four stars was the amount of people there. Very cramped on spring break holiday. I'll bet it's perfect during school, though.

Outstanding State Park

By Charleytoo |

This is probably one of the nicest parks in the Texas State Park system, although I haven't visited all 90 of them. We camped here for a week and had a lovely site right on the lake with shade trees, picnic table, and water/elec hookups. We're self-contained so didn't use the facilities although everything appeared well-maintained. Staff at the office and store were pleasant. Ready to return!

So peaceful!

By Naomi |

Make sure you go online to get a reservation first. I think it's only $7 for a car. Well worth it. Went the third week of April and there was barely anyone there. We hiked up the trail that passes a stream. It was not exerting at all. Quite leisurely. There's some tall grass though so just watch your ankles or spray them. We were the only ones on the trail. The water was around 50 degrees so we didn't get a chance to go into the lake. I would love to rent an RV and stay here for a couple of days to a week. We ended up going here instead of Long Horn cave and i don't regret it. Cheaper too.

Beautiful Waterfall!

By travellove59 |

The water is nice, cool and refreshing. The waterfall is just beautiful. Make sure to put you feet in the water after hiking! The hiking trails are great as well. The park has lots of camp sites and cabins. The streets in the park are paved.

Deer Haven

By divindave2015 |

I always enjoy anywhere you can observe the deer up close. The road here meanders through the park, the different camping areas are separated and the lake has always been clear when we've been there. Toward Marble Falls, the caverns are great for the Grand-kids and friends to ramble through.

Inks Lake SP 2022

By AD Young |

We camped out here for the weekend for my youngest's birthday. It was an awesome trip even when it got super hot.

We took two moderate rated trails: Pecan Flats and Devil's Backbone. Pecan Flats wasn't as challenging as I thought it would be, but Devil's Backbone was much more challenging than a moderate feels should be. Both had good views.

The Devil's Watering Hole is a must, especially in the hotter months. Just be warned that it is very popular too. Aside from just swimming, a lot of people like to jump off the rocks. Do this at your own risk as it is highly dangerous. My group did NOT do any jumping.

Being a bird watcher, I made sure to check out the Bird Blind. It is one of the best blinds I've ever seen and wish our local parks had one as nice. Word of warning: watch out for wasp nests, especially if you are allergic.

Nice drive around

By Dennis |

Was out driving around and found this place. Very nice park. They have cabins to rent, rv sites and camp sites. Check this out. Its worth it

Family camping

By reneebekkelund |

We loved to tent camp as a family. We camped here and had a great time. Many activities for young families with young kids. It can get crowded so make sure to make reservations early as possible. Also, it seems like the park put as many camping sites into this place as possible, so you are close to neighbors, which some do and don't like. Overall, great place for family camping.

Awesome park

By playtimeforme |

Very shaded. Staff everywhere you went was very helpful. You can rent paddle boats, canoes, kayaks. They have a little store with some supplies. Sand vollyball.

A beautiful State Park

By Connie M |

We just spent 4 nights and 5 days tent camping and did not want to leave. We arrived on a Sunday and people were packing up and getting ready to leave and the restrooms were fairly dirty but that is to be expected. They didn't show up to clean them until Monday morning, I thought it would have been done on Sunday but oh well. Other than that the camp sites were clean. This was our first trip and the workers were all very friendly and very helpful. We had never hiked before and gave the Pecan Flats trail a try and it was certainly very beautiful, but make sure you take a lot of water to drink. Part of the Pecan trail is wheel chair accessible but not all of it. We had our own fishing equipment but they will loan you what ever you need, we caught some large mouth bass and some large perch while we were there. We also rented a canoe and paddles and had a great time on the lake they also have life jackets but we had our own with us and used those. We saw deer, roadrunners, raccoons, and a water moccasin. There is a play area for kids and a volley ball net set up. It is a very beautiful and peaceful place and we will be back with the grandkids in the spring. They also have family showers by the cabins to use instead of the open showers in the other restrooms so we drove to those from our camp site.

By Tammie L |

Awesome park we stayed on spots 228 & 229. Long drive from Dallas but worth it. We are going kayaking tomorrow. You will need to arrive very early to get by the water.

Beautiful scenery

By shafa66 |

Stopped for a quick swim, could've stayed for a week. Very nice campground, very pretty lake, wonderful trails for hiking, and friendly staff. It gets full quickly so book far out.

Beautiful environment

By Liz K |

In spring there are wonderful, colorful wildflowers. Varied terrain including vista views of the lake. Hiking maps available in the office. HOWEVER, trails are not well marked so it is easy to go off course. The areas for hiking are relatively delimited so you can't get very lost, but it is still frustrating not to be able to follow the mapped hiking trails.

There are numerous picnic areas with places to grill. Also places for camping. We didn't use these but they seem very accessible and comfortable.

Wonderful park

By ANW1988 |

My husband and I camped here for several days and just loved it. The lake is beautiful and we really enjoyed swimming at the Devil’s Waterhole. The cliffs lining the swimming area were really cool. There were several good hiking trails as well. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Beautiful waterfront sites. Well kept. Quiet shaded. Larger park. Nice general store for necessities. Will return in spring

Super fun and beautiful

By EinAustin |

This is a must see if you are visiting Texas. This is what we call "easy car camping." You can even rent an air conditioned building to camp in. Can I say "glamping?" :)

I went recently with my son for the day. We were going to rent a paddle boat, except it was too windy.

I noticed that they "loan" fishing rods, so we borrowed one and bought some hot dogs for $2 (cheaper than worms, and I wasn't anticipating catching anything.) We had fun. We went to the North Pier and fished for two hours. There were beautiful ducks and some of them were quite large creamy ones with long black necks. Gorgeous! I took some fantastic photos.

Good camping and boating

By Laura V |

We just drove through looking for views of the lake but couldn’t see much. It looked like a nice camping spot and very family oriented.

By Adrienne S |

I love this park, great place to disconnect and relax. hard to get reservations so book months in advance. I always see sites that are empty that say reserved so please cancel if you're not going to show!

Excellent camping, boating, and hiking, not far from Austin!

By Texmt |

We have stayed at Inks Lake in our Airstream several times, and take it for granted since it's only about an hour from Austin. While there, we enjoy kayaking, biking, exploring, and hiking. But when your camping, just being outside and enjoying a campfire in the evenings on a beautiful lake is enough for most....as I said, we take it for granted, since so close to Austin. There is good shopping for basics not far, and with the wine country close by, lots to do besides fishing, boating, hiking, etc...They also have rental cottage's if you don't have a tent or RV....reservations recommended, but you can usually call up there and get a "feel" for how booked they are and if you can squeeze in....we love the area; Inks Lake, Buchanan, and Horshoe Bay all within a short drive...did I mention Perissos winery is excellent and close to Inks?

BEAUTIFUL, BIG, AND CLEAN :)

By Gaylee G |

Truly great!!! They have canoe and kayak rentals for 15 dollars per hour. They have something called a moonlight paddle, that is just absolutely amazing!!!! I highly recommend you try it, you wont be sorry!! Great park and lake!!! Loved it!

Inks Lake

By Rather B Fishing |

Wonderful park! I went kayaking for the day. Tha park rangers were helpful and really nice. The boat ramp is not too steep and short. Easy to launch my Hobie with the Mirage drive and rudder. Really hot and get really crowded.

Great family camping. Staff was extra nice.

By T145GKkennyb |

We rented two single room cabins with air conditioning. The bunk beds were really uncomfortable, but the staff and all of the fun activities made up for it. It has a good family atmosphere, park was kept clean on a very busy weekend.

Peaceful, relaxing, clean and safe place to visit

Park staff is fabulous and helpful! Felt very safe at all times as park rangers kept very active patrol. Clean restrooms and shower facilities. Already re-booked!

Camping trip to Inks Lake

By Myriam M |

We reserved a cabin and got one down by the lake, book early they fill up fast. It was clean, rustic, had everything we were looking for. The community restrooms and showers were clean, nice warm water. Wonderful wkend we spent relaxing. The trails are wonderful to hike. This time of the year the wildflowers were at their best.

Great place to camp

By James F |

Inks lake is one of the best state parks to visit. Have to make reservations early as they full up fast. Have decent amenities for texas state park.

Beautiful and enjoyable

By Cristal D |

This is definitely a family friendly and bustling place. There were people everywhere (on a weekday). Nevertheless, it still offered the "state park" ambiance. We hiked to the bird house lodge and it was well worth it! It was so much nicer than we expected! We also enjoyed sitting in the creek as a refreshing break from the hiking. If we'd have brought floats, a dip in the lake would have been great!

An Oasis in Arid Country

By mebramson |

There is something fascinating and beautiful as the rugged, hot (summertime), rocky landscape is surveyed from a high point in this Texas Hill Country park. Tucked onto the shore of one of the smallest lakes on the Colorado River, Inks Lake sits between more massive Lake Buchanan and Lake LBJ. The park is easy to get to from two directions, and occupies quite a bit of shoreline which allows its many visitors opportunity to enjoy water activities including swimming, kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing and more. In total, there are over 300 campsites: with a tents only area, and for RV's of all types, plus a section with cabins to rent, also. There are at least 4 miles of road inside the park if you are a bicyclist and it is fairly easy with only a few tiny hills and fairly smooth pavement. There are also quite a few miles of hiking trails, and the trail to the swimming area designated Devil's Hole is wide and well maintained. The campsites are paved and wide enough, but not overly modernized. We did have good water and electric, but there are apparently only a very few that have sewer hookup. They have plenty of restroom showers, and while some construction is still underway, we could see that many of these have recently been updated and enlarged. The one dump station with only 2 ports was quite a madhouse on Sunday, and park Rangers were required to assist the flow of exiting RV's. You can tell in many places where rain has eroded the sites, but there are also quite a few that have immediate water access. Beside the lake there are plenty of other activities and parks, and we found a couple of very tasty wineries nearby, as well. It is a busy park and hard to get camping reservations. We found the staff to be friendly and professional, and had no problems during our 3 day stay.

A stress-free sanctuary.

By Frank T |

Wow! What a beautiful little place on earth. I camped here during hunting season, so the trails were closed. Having said that, I knew they were going to be closed because they clearly posted it on their website. I still stayed here because the lake and its activities were still accessible and there is so much else to see and do around the area. The Park personnel were all very nice and helpful and there was so much to do that I stayed an extra day.

Great experience!

By Nathan K |

Came here over Valentine's weekend and great experience camping and hiking in the park. Would recommend making a reservation online or by calling them ahead of time, though, since they get full. Also, tie up your trash bag, or put it in the car, or animals (I think a raccoon in our case) will get into it.

Great Camping

By EricPBliss |

Simply stated, a beautiful park with lots of niches for camping with a scenic view...bathrooms and firewood available...reserve weekends in advance, but weekdays are easy.

Visited Devils Watering Hole

By Mitch W |

We went specifically to visit the Devils Watering Hole.

The walk from the parking area is short.

At Devils Watering Hole - no picnic tables. Bring water shoes. Good spot to jump off rocks.

Quiet, beautiful, awesome

By Elizabeth S |

We come here every week and its so nice to come to a place that is quiet and we'll maintained.
Everyone here parks ppl or the patrons are nice. The scenery is breathe taking and relaxing.
Early morning you can watch the wildlife walk around to various campsites to sneak a peek at what's left over from the night before.
A must come to place
If you frequent the state parks get the year pass it will save you lots of money.

2nd Best State Park in Texas

By Korrina R |

I love this place - The park is beautiful! They have kayak and canoe rentals, fishing, hiking and it is close to Longhorn Cavern.

Family Friendly State Park

By Wookie |

If you are traveling with small kids and/or pets through the Texas Hill Country, Inks Lake State Park is a great place to spend a day. Lots of rocks to climb on and ankle deep water to splash in within a short hike of the trailhead. Also plenty of swimming opportunities, but when we were there it was a bit cool outside still. There were some teenagers braving the cool water to swim and jump off rocks into the deep poos of water.

We were in the area for just 2 days, so we packed our lunch and spent most of the day hiking the various trials and playing in the water. Went back the 2nd day for a few hours to fish and do some more bouldering after visiting the Longhorn Cavern. It was a bit windy, otherwise, we would have rented canoes as well.

Amazing wild flowers

By Andrew W |

Devil's Waterhole trail is awesome. Wild flowers are everywhere there. You can take a short hike to enjoy the view or spend a few hours to complete the trail. I attached some photos taken last weekend. Check it out. Highly recommend.

Lots of activities

By Linda M |

We visited Inks Lake State Park in October 2016. It was a beautiful weekend weather-wise. This was not my favorite park as far as campsites were concerned. Our sites were ok, but we noticed many that were not scenic at all. They didn't have trees and didn't have a view of the lake. We had a number of family members there and had 4 different sites. We were in a section with water and electric. We ended up using one site for our general meeting site where we cooked and sat around the campfire in the evening. That particular site did not have a good site for a tent and we were all tent camping.
(Site # 232) One of our other sites was nice--right next to the lake and room for a couple of tents on a grassy area. (Site # 235) We also had Sites 230 and 231. Both of these sites had a couple of spots for tents. They were shaded, but they were also right next to one of the park roads and the road noise was pretty loud. It wasn't bad through the night, but was definitely loud even up until 9-10 pm and then started fairly early in the morning. We had a large fan going in our tent, but that didn't cover up the road noise!

The park has some nice amenities. It is a very large park and was quite busy. They have some good hiking trails, a great little swimming hole, and a nice little store where you can get ice, drinks, etc., and also rent kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. The price seemed quite reasonable for the hourly rentals. The price for their firewood bundles was not reasonable though, so try to find firewood in town, if possible!

We had the worst experience at any park we have visited with noise. We had a large group camping in several spots to one side of us that were extremely loud in the evenings. We could hear everything they said. Lots of kids in the group, but the adults made no attempt to quite them. Everyone else in the area was very respectful and quite, but this group didn't seem to notice that anyone else was in the campground. We were quite frustrated, and even more so on Sunday when we realized that one of the park hosts spots was very close to those campers and we would have thought would have certainly heard how loud they were. It would have been nice for the host to ask them to quiet down some to show some consideration for the other campers. A second problem was that the rangers here go around at about 7 am on a very loud four-wheeler checking for parking violations! I have no problem with them checking for park violations, but seemed a little odd to be doing it so early and on a vehicle that woke people up if they happened to be sleeping in even slightly late.

Restrooms were just so-so near our site. They were ok as far as cleanliness, but not great. Could use some sweeping of spider webs and eggs--especially outside. I hate when there are no doors on the shower stalls. This one had a main door closing off the two stalls from the sink and toilet stalls, but the door wouldn't close completely. In the first shower, you would be totally exposed if someone came in to the bathroom. In the second, you were slightly shielded by the wall between the two showers. Just because I'm camping doesn't mean i have no modesty! I really don't understand why there aren't doors on the shower stalls, but this isn't the first park I've been to set up like this. The last park we camped at a couple weeks ago was the opposite. Cleburne State Park had an awesome bathroom. Perfectly clean overall with wonderful showers with little private stalls. The bathrooms at Inks Lake weren't near as new or nice as Cleburne, but they could have at least been maintained a little better. And I'm going to take a tension rod with a shower curtain if we ever go back here!

Inks Lake was not on my list of favorites, but my husband, son and brother really liked it because of the available amenities. I would certainly go back again, but I would want to get there really early to get a decent campsite. There are definitely some campsites here that I would not have wanted to end up on. I guess that's true of any park, but seemed like more than usual would fit into this category at this park!

Great camping with the family (Tent)

By Devin A |

Though we only stayed one night, we really enjoyed all aspects of Inks Lake state park. Check in was easy and quick, we found our spot immediately in great shape. Only took a small amount of time before we were setup and having fun with the children. Restrooms and amenities were in great shape and mostly brand new.

We didn't encounter any loud music or rude people and enjoyed our neighbors and their three kids. The shore area was clean and hardly saw any trash at all in the entire park.

Beware* Lock all food at night. Racoon's got into our sealed food bags and they looked like Pro's who do it all the time :)

This is a great park for camping even with very little ones.

Scenic

We were fortunate to get a lakefront site for our motorhome. It was great, and the sunsets were beautiful. Lots of water activities and hiking available.

This is a very busy park, so go on weekdays if you can.

Great place to camp, fish, and hike

By Temose |

My wife and I tent camped for 5 days at site 349 which has a water spigot, a picnic table, lots of shade, and a fire ring. Getting a site with water or water & electricity both, is the only way to be near the lake. The primitive camp sites are the farthest from the lake & you have to pack all your gear in. We were able to park next to our site and unload from there. We were only 30 feet or so from the lake bank, but some sites are farther from the water. The south fishing pier was close to our site and there is also a north pier. There were restrooms nearby with running water, flushing toilets, and semi-private showers. Near there is stacked firewood you can purchase on an honor system by inserting $5 into a box on a post. Also, there's a $1 soft drink machine. The fees for entrance & camping really make getting a Texas State Parks Pass a smart idea. There are also small cabins to rent with beds and heat and a/c. The showers at the restrooms near the cabins are private & we preferred to use them. There is a small convenience store in the park, run by park staff & a restaurant, which we didn't visit. The store has supplies such as firewood, ice, drinks, bacon, eggs, milk, fishing gear, hats, souvenirs, OTC meds, insect repellant, sun block, many other food items & various other sundries. They have live worms for fishing behind the checkout station, I missed them the first time in the store. You can rent a kayak or canoe for $15 an hour, complete with paddles & life vests, which you are required to wear. The entire park staff were all very friendly & very helpful. There is a quiet time between 10pm & 6am, no loud music or noise to disturb your fellow campers. There is also a rule against the public display of alcohol. Both of these rules are strictly enforced. There are several hiking trails to walk, some are more challenging than others, none are a breeze. Do yourself a favor and wear good hiking or tennis shoes, invest in a walking pole, take plenty of water, and be aware of your surroundings. There was not a burn ban when we went but be aware that there is always a possibility of a ban being in place. Fishing is good, I caught a couple of very good sized bass from the bank right by our campsite at night using plastic worm lures. My wife also caught a few perch the size of my hand on live worms. Please remember to always clean up after you & yours, try to follow the leave no trace rule. As Texas citizens, this is our park and we should respect and care for it. We are already looking forward to our next trip to this park.

Wonderful place!

By JerryLobo |

We stayed in campsite 345 for 2 cold nights it was a very nice experience. There are a lot of campsites and cabins. The cabins don’t really look like cabins tho, they look more like jail blocks lol. The park has various amazing clean restrooms and showers. The park also has a store where you can get any essentials like wood, ice, and basic amenities. Be aware that if you want to rent kayaks or canoes the cutoff time is 3pm which is too early in my opinion. Pets are allowed in leashes. You can get in the lake from any area. Overall it’s a beautiful place to camp and connect with nature.

So many wildflowers! They have a guided wildflower hike every Fri & Sat in April at 6:00 p.m.

By capitollover |

I love this park, and was surprised to see that they have so many wildflowers. They offer a guided wildflower hike every Friday and Saturday in April.

As for the hiking trails, they are more strenuous than the "easy" classification would suggest. We hiked the Valley Spring Creek Trail which is quite hilly and rocky in places. I had to use my hiking poles on over 1/2 of the trail.

I suggest hiking shoes for stability and hiking poles for assistance over the rocky and steep portions. Part of the trail is shaded, but more than 1/2 is not. Therefore, wear a hat, sunscreen, and/or protective (UV blocking) clothing if you tend to sunburn.

Also, bring water for the hike.

Please do not throw your litter on the trail. We saw litter, including a banana peel. It is not good for the wildlife to eat "people" food. Take a bag if you plan to eat on the trail, and bring the trash out with you.

Plan to spend 2-3 hours if you are hiking, longer if you are fishing. The have camp sites and cabins for rent for overnight stays.

Lake level is constant.

By roadtriptakers |

Not our first trip here, but things had changed since we had camped here. This is a great place. There are kayaks, peddle boats and canoes for rent. Life jackets are available free for swimming in the lake. The water is cool even in 105 degree weather. Don’t depend on the Kona Ice truck. It is rarely open. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because there are no full hookups for your rv. Restrooms are VERY nice.

A nice place to spent a day

By Ray A |

Very friendly staffed this small lake offers everything you want for a quiet day at the water. It's clean and it's quiet, on week days, with a lot of birds, squiirells and fish. And good swimming and cannoeing.

Great hiking

The hiking trail here are well marked and enjoyable. Choose from elevations to get views or lake walks to enjoy the water. The interpretive trail is a must.

Pretty Park

By tammy92371 |

Inks Lake State Park is a great place to go with lots to do, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, picnicking, camping, etc... we didn't stay long we drove around the pretty large park and walked around a little bit as well. It cost $12 to get in for the day if you're not staying overnight, which is reasonable. It was a little confusing as to where to go to do what even though the signs were helpful, we did see a few park rangers driving around, but parking is limited so get information before you go.

crowded

By cami8999 |

It was fun at Devils Cove for the kids to jump and swim - however - you get all kinds - rude, smokers, drinkers (even though it is posted not to) people standing forever too scared to jump holding other people up, lots of obnoxious drunk people. They do have kayaks and other fun stuff.

Fun family campground

By Birmingham_ALKaren |

Inks Lake is a beautiful oasis in the hill country of Texas. The arrangements of campsites follows the natural lay of the land under shade trees and around the natural shore of the lake. The variety of sites insures that it is not just a flat bland RV parking lot, but a place reminiscent of old-fashioned family campgrounds dotted with tents and kids playing in the outdoors. Sounds of song birds and smells of outdoor camp cooking peacefully prevail.

Nice Trails

By Richard H |

We had a good time walking the Devil's Waterhole and Devil's Backbone trails. We weren't able to do the whole of the latter: our disabled adult daughter was worn out and found the trail too difficult. Otherwise, the trails were not difficult and we enjoyed out time in nature.

Huge state park

Spent two days at the day use area and we enjoyed it immensely. We walked back to Devils Hole. We swam, rented a paddle boat, and kayaks. This area of the lake is so peaceful!
We were sure to get there early to get a spot with shade. Facilities were clean. Ready to go back with our rv!

We just stopped by for a day visit with a little hiking. Some nice scenic areas. There are a lot of camping spaces and restroom facilities. I think this park could get very busy at times. The devils swimming hole looked fun.

Great Stay in Cabin 21

By colesays |

Great state park. Beautiful drive from Fort Worth along the 67 and 281.

We stayed in Cabin 21, which has a great view of the lake and is in very close proximity to the bathrooms. In our opinion, the three best cabins in order are cabin 8, cabin 9, and cabin 21. Cabins 1-4 are also lakeside and near a bathroom, but they seem closer together. The cabins were basic but clean and the AC worked great. We even got a little cold at night! The cabin bathrooms are well maintained and cleaned daily.

I can't comment on specific campsites outside of the cabin, but I would note that in driving through the park, the RV area looked pretty crowded and packed in. The cabins definitely offered more space to spread out and not be right on top of your neighbors.

The swimming right outside our cabin was convenient, but you do have to be willing to wade through a significant amount of reeds and algae to get to cleaner water. Bring a tube, start paddling, and don't look down at the water until you're 100 feet out ;)

We spent a good amount of time at the Devil's Waterhole, swimming, climbing rocks, and jumping the cliffs. Very fun! The shore is extremely rocky and sharp though. We wished we had remembered water shoes. On the weekends, the waterhole gets quite crowded and this can be unpleasant, but the first day we arrived, a Friday in September, it was only us and one other family swimming there. If you're arriving on a weekday and staying through the weekend, I would make visiting this spot a priority and beat the weekend crowd.

We did the Valley Spring Creek trail, but due to the drought, the waterfall was not flowing and this was not a good place to swim. We also did the Pecan trail up to the 1000 foot overlook and it was a beautiful hike.

All in all, a great camp spot and a bargain vacation. Do go!

Family fun place for all ages

By TravelMom412 |

Been camping here about once a year for decades.. park is always well maintained and clean. Still can't stand the new style bathrooms, taking a shower in them is like taking a shower in a sauna, but at least it is there. Hot water available if you need or want it.
We attended a kids event put on for free for kids that was a lot of fun for my younger kids. Showed them how to seine and the naturalist leading the talk showed them what they caught and talked about the different species of fish.
All the kids love the water hole. Sometimes we walked in, other times we kayak in. Waterfalls were running so it was fun to both jump off rocks and to play in waterfall. I enjoyed just sitting under the water for a nice hydromassage.
And if course, couldn't miss getting ice creams and sitting on back porch if the park store!

Beautiful scenery. Wonderful hike to swimming hole where you can cool off. The fish hatchery is fun too. We were there when they were feeding which was very fun

Great Park

By dona989 |

I have been to lots of Texas Parks and this one is one of my favorites. Beautiful lake, super nice camping spots and lots to do. Canoe rentals, on site store, fishing docks, clean showers. Nice walking trails through scenic woods with wildlife. Not that far from the city of Kingsland on Lake LBJ for anything you may need. Beautiful and peaceful park.

Beautiful, large state park with lots of amenities!

By fbglove |

A really beautiful and large park with many RV sites. Centered on lake activities. General Store, boat rentals, fishing, wildlife. Reserve a campsite to ensure a spot.

Week RV stay

By Youarekiddingme |

Very nice and well maintained. Lots of new bathroom/shower construction going on but does not hinder getting around. Nice RV sites for any taste, standard no sewage hook up for state park. Water and electricity provided. Dump station set up for two vehicles to use at same time. Water activities and easy access to water, paddle boats and such for rent. Lots of hiking to be found. Overall nice.

Well maintained

By Laelana |

It was a very busy day when we got there, but it was never an inconvenience. Fairly well marked signs, ample parking, and decent facilities. Went swimming in the devil's waterhole, the short trail in was clear and reasonably maintained. Astonishingly to me, I don't believe I saw any trash in all the typical places you might [in bushes or rock crevices]. Absolutely wonderful.

One of the prettiest hikes in Texas

Devil’s Water Hole hike is beautiful. We love to take friends and family that come to visit. It’s a short and moderate hike.

Inks Lake

family favorite for almost 20 years now; started when my children were young and now my grandchildren love it!!!

Great kayaking and camping

By Alex Z |

We camped for a weekend and loved every minute! The lake is right there to cool you off on a hot summer day, and there's plenty to explore by foot and by kayak. Check out the devil's waterhole for swimming all year round and cliff diving.

Just Beautiful!

By sharonlarou |

We drove through the park and absolutely enjoyed the beautiful lake and campgrounds. They had some perfect camping spots along the lake with well maintained grounds. There were boat ramps, a general store, and bath houses as well.

You can live on lake front property for a weekend.

By Gina S |

This was my second visit to Inks Lake State Park. The lake views are fabulous. I don't have small children but there are play areas for children. They rent small cinder block cabins that are right on the lake, tent sites, or pads for rv's. So, much to do here. Take a hike across granite mounds with great overlooks, rent a canoe, kayak or paddle boat, fish off the pier, swim, or enjoy a campfire. And for the modern convenience, they have a convenience store (which we visited several times) and a "restaurant." We didn't visit the restaurant. And get this....on my most recent visit, I didn't have any trouble getting a signal on my cell phone.

Weekday Get-away to nature

By Laura M |

Reserved a charming treed tent campsite on the lake beachfront for the night and enjoyed the solitude, the trails, the birds and deer, the amazing sunset over the water, the stars at night, taking photographs and just relaxing. We even found some early wildflowers. We would have rented a boat, but they were lowering the lake level. (All done now...go rent a boat) We drove over to nearby Longhorn Caverns State Park for their cavern tour, too. ($20 per person) Enjoyed that, and their little trails. Great breather of a Get-away!

Wild flowers in bloom

Went with family. Beautiful with lots of blue bonnets, Indian paints and black eyed Susan flowers. Park well kept up. Staff knowledgeable and friendly.

Bathrooms were clean

Excellent state Park.

By John S |

This one of Texas State Parks that everyone should visit. Beautiful views of the hill country, lake levels are always good with swimming and fishing in the top 10 of all lakes. Clean well maintained and always friendly staff. Big camp sites and easy to back a RV of travel trailer into.

Amazing lake and park

By Mark Cloherty |

One of the best state parks i have visited in Texas. Beautiful lake, great swimming areas, great options for parking and camping. Amazingly the store allows you to hire fishing poles for free which was great because we forgot to bring our fishing equipment. Lots of hiking and trails as well, inexpensive to hire kayaks and paddle boats. And the entry fees are very low, kids 12 and under go free and only $6 for everybody else.

Excellent trails

By janetc20 |

We hit the wildflowers just right and the park is beautiful. The HQ staff were very helpful. The green and blue trails were very picturesque.

Clean Toilets

By uppertexside |

When out in nature sometimes you get the "call"! The ever attentive staff has passion for doing everything first class right down to clean toilets. From the second you drive through the gate, it is nothing but Texas best scenery and people.

Impressive state park!

By LittlePaint |

I'm camped along the lake near the Devil's Wateringhole trailhead. So quiet and peaceful. Love sitting outside along the water's edge reading and watching the waterfowl. Great sunsets, too. Nearby campers are friendly and considerate.

The campground is peaceful and relaxing. The trails are outstanding and not what I expected for a state park. The rock formations along Devil's Wateringhole, Spring Valley loop, and Devil's Backbone are outstanding.... Not to be missed!

I also hiked Lake, Woodland, Connecting, and a portion of Pecan Flats trails. Very well marked, not heavily traveled. Very peaceful.

Great Granite Backdrop

By Brian K |

Lake is full again and drawing the crowds. Often hard to secure a campsite, so call early. I mean way ahead. Great place to camp and swim, along with boating. Always have enjoyed it here with a cracking fire and grilled food. Really busy now days, I have been coming here for about 49 years.

Beautiful views on the trails!

By aelainen |

Beautiful park with amazing views and lots to do!

My husband and I hiked a couple of the shorter trails but I already want to go back for more! The trails provided beautiful views of the lake and some challenge, with ups and downs. A good mix between shade and sun.

I saw there was kayak and paddle board rentals. Although we didn’t go this time, I’d like to try that when we come back. I also heard the Devil’s Waterhole is a very popular swimming hole. They have camping, both RV and tent. I’d also like to try that.

Overall, great experience! Beautiful views on the Fisherman’s and Lake Loop trails. Looking forward to going back!

A fun day with the kids

By gclark8 |

First time visiting and had a great time with the kids. Fishing was a dud (we arrived too late to have much luck) but it was ore than made up for by the swimming and other activities in the park. Kids can't wait to go back.

Waterfront Camping and Well-Marked Trails

By CLinAustin |

We love camping at Inks Lake. Try to reserve a site and get there as soon as you're able to check in so you can ask for a spot by the water. We like to ask for spots on the west side, as this side feels much more secluded and you can hop right into the water and there are only a few other families/groups near you. All of the bathrooms are just a quick bike ride/walk away and aren't too shabby - the showers are clean enough and the toilets are real toilets that flush. The park rangers will routinely circle the campsites to make sure everything looks all right. This may be the reason we've never really had a problem with noise, even on a busy night.

There are some benefits to camping on the more crowded east side though - that side offers more direct access to the swimming-only section called Devil's Waterhole. We bike down to the office, rent kayaks (prices are comparable to the rowing docks in Austin), and make our way down to Devil's Waterhole. The whole park can get packed since they offer so many amenities for families so aim for weekdays.

The trails have really good signage and you can make your hike last a few hours or take the next fork and head back to the camp sites. Beautiful rocks and plants on the hiking trails.

Great Camping Park in Hill Country

By LK R |

Inks Lake is a great state park, with swimming areas, "cabins" (cinder block rooms, but with all important a/c for summer); playgrounds for the kids, and good camping spots... many very close to water. My only complaint is that the water in a small inlet near the camp spots (and near cabins), was too yucky to swim in.... wish it could be cleaned somehow. But the state park itself is great. A store in the park is well stocked.

How did I never know about this stunning park??

By Staci T |

Camped here Thanksgiving Weekend and, wow! What a beautiful park! Fall colors, water views almost everywhere. Nice hiking too! Weather was not great, but we still enjoyed being here. Absolutely must go back in summer.

No full hookups and we forgot out grey water tote, so we had to use the public showers. They were fine, with one complaint: they have fans venting them, but in the 40 degree weather, they were ridiculously cold and drafty if you weren't directly under the shower spray. Perhaps park staff could turn the fans off in the winter?

Convenient camp store on site, in case you forgot anything.

Great little hike and picnic spot

By Spoonermomma1 |

We happily hiked in, watched some kids jump off the big rocks into the swimming hole and then walked to the water area. We took some great pictures and it was a pretty easy walk for my mother-in-law with back problems. We enjoyed our packed lunch at one of the many picnic tables. You have to drive through all of the campsites to get to the hike. We noticed there were little cabins to rent there if you do not camp. You just need a 1-2 hours to see this site.

Camping weekend

By Hossein T |

We camped here for 2 nights. The park is gorgeous with lakes for water activity and hills for hiking. The bathroom and shower was very clean and well maintained. One can rent canoes, paddle boats and fishing rods, there is also swimming and cliff jumping for the adventurous ones, albeit the water was cold. The only disappointment was understandably the fire ban so we used charcoal and gas for cooking.

Great walking opportunity in the hill country of texas

By jeff77664 |

Some great trails at the park that allow for plenty of exercise. Some great scenery with the lake. The day in October we were there, kids were in the water.

Worth a visit if in the area to spend a couple of hours at if you are into hiking.

Hidden Gem

By Stephanie O |

We stopped by this park as an afterthought, expecting a few short hikes. Four adults of moderate hiking skill were able to navigate the trails without problems. We finished it up by the Devils Pool. The sunset was worth waiting for. Would love to come back and camp, since there are great campgrounds and cabins scattered around. Would highly recommend.

A place for the brave of heart

By ChuckB67 |

This is a beautiful park and fully loaded with hearty souls ready to venture off the cliffs. More power to them I say. The lake is large and there are many nice campsites. The kids really enjoyed their time flying off the cliffs but the old (relative) man decided it was in his best interest to be a spectator and cheer leader. It was an important role! If you are a water lover with teenagers and good medical, don't hesitate to come out.

Striped Bass Right Before Sunset

By rhopelain |

This review is just about fishing.

We spent four hours out on the lake with an ultra-annoying guide. He had good equipment and plenty of bait, and did a fair amount of work. But, we only caught fish for the one hour right before sunset. And then it was ridiculous. Drop the bait in and pull a fish out. Problem was that we probably caught 75 fish in that hour, but only one reached the 18-inch limit. For the other three hours we tried for catfish and got nothing. All in all, a bit of a snore.

Busy park

By JMcG |

This park gets very busy on the weekends and if you have a camping neighbor, they are a little too close. Your view can be impeded and neighbor noise can be a problem if they decide to watch TV outside all day. Hikers are plentiful and noisy on weekends, too.if you have a dog, the place is covered in grass burrs. The water level was way down so most sites were overlooking mud, not water. There are nice hikes and a superb birding blind with many food stations for many species of birds. Great for photos. Wish that the hikers could be a little quieter so others could enjoy listening to nature.

Watch out when reserving sites. Half are water only sites and many others are for only small trailers. There is a nice park store there and the restrooms are very nice.

In summary, it’s a good park with pretty views but can be noisy, crowded and the water is very, very low making any water sport difficult.

A beautiful park

By Michelle W |

We had a great Boy Scout campout at Inks Lake State Park. Unfortunately we were only there for 2 nights, so I would like to go back with the family sometime. It is a beautiful place and close to Longhorn Caverns. Bathrooms were pretty standard for a state park.

Boating, swimming, hiking, cliff jumping...so much fun!

By Michelle M |

We rented a 32' travel trailer and had no problem driving through the park or backing into our camping spot. We stayed at campsite 251 and that was the perfect place for us. We had 4 adults, 4 kids and 5 dogs. We were close to the restrooms/showers and close to the trail that leads to Devil's Waterhole. We were camped on part of the lake that had a no wake zone so we were able to walk down the trails to the lake and swim. The cliffs at the Devil's Waterhole is so much fun. Bring a tube or something to float on so you can hang out and watch people jump off the cliffs. We had so much fun jumping off those cliffs. Our grandchildren, 4, 7 & 9, had no problem jumping off the smaller part. A couple of us jumped off the 30' cliff, scary but fun! There were people going off the highest cliff, but it would take them some time to work up the courage. There is enough places to get in the lake and swim that we were able to let our dogs swim without being close to anybody else. Lots of trees so our campsite was well shaded. We did some hiking, but it was just too hot to do a lot of hiking. The store is convenient and has some basic necessities like ice and drinks, but no food. The lake was not over crowded with boats so we had a lot of fun skiing and tubing. The bathrooms and park is pretty well maintained and there were a lot of families out there. We did not see any empty campsites, so there was trash throughout because people are simply inconsiderate. We did see a lot of deer and they were close to the campsites. We would camp there again if we get the chance.

On the search

By 116tbrown |

We circled the entire park looking for a group we were suppose to meet. We parked and got out and walked around a little bit. It's a very scenic and beautiful park, canoeing, kayaking, a swimming hole, places to camp both RV and tents, something for the whole family. Cost us $12 for the day, not sure what the overnight price is though. Well kept and clean park to visit.

Fun, Sun, and a Texas Lake!

By TheWanderingHarts |

One HOT June day we piled into the car and picked out some road trip jams for drive through the Hill Country and a destination of fun and sun. The drive is easy as always and a quick 2 hours later we arrived.

There are several hiking trails through out the park and they are different lengths and terrain so you are bound to fine one at your skill level.

After you pay at the main gate you can make your way down to the park store where you can rent paddle boats, kayaks and rent fishing gear. Kids wanted to do a paddle boat before we went swimming, which was fun but you had to stay in the general area so they got bored quickly plus, being on the lake under that hot Texas sky it was too tempting to jump in and cool off....we were ready to swim!

Finally, it was on to the Devil's Water Hole for some swimming! Once you park there is a bit of a trek to get there and with a cooler, chairs and other paraphernalia it wasn't exactly easy BUT worth it. We found a great little shady spot under some trees and right on the water. We lathered on the sunscreen and jumped in....well gingerly walked in; there are a lot of big and not visible boulders. We found some water falls to play in and even some river onions! There was a giant rock that other people were jumping off of which I would not allow my kiddos to do. After a few hours we got out and had some lunch and then we went right back in!

That evening we went back to the store to do some fishing. I receive the Texas State Parks e-newsletter (highly recommend) and knew that there was going to be FREE fishing lessons that evening. The rangers did a great job on fishing safety, casting and reeling in. They had the kids practice on land and then let them fish off the pier. We eventually moved to an area with less people and we saw baby turtles, a water snake and crawdads.

We are planning to go again and rent a cabin. They looked really nice and could make for a great mid-week getaway!

Grandkids loved it!!

By Scott C |

We went on a day pass to swim and jump from cliffs! It did NOT disappoint... the boys swam and like there was no tomorrow.. We had to drag them out. The water was cool but not cold. Was right

Beautiful!

By tooiewaco |

So many beautiful views just to drive through the park. Lots of people camping, boating, fishing. You can rent paddle boats to see the sights from the lake. We want to go camping there next visit!

Camping at Inks Lake State Park

By frankjaviergarcia |

One of the best state parks in Texas. Went tent camping there andd stayed at campsite 83 whch was about 50 yards to the lake. For tents I think the campsites in the 90s are the best spots. Make reservations early on-line because the park fills up quickly. We go mid week to avoid the crowds. The bathrooms across from our site were always very clean and it seemed they were cleaned a couple of times a day at least. There was also a small store vely close to our site and it has lost of fishing and camping items in case you forgot something. They also sell ice. Park rangers patrol the grounds regularly so you always feel safe. All the people working there were super helpful and friendly. Great place to take the kids.

Simply the best!!

By LathasLover |

Way way better than what I expected. Very clean and very well maintained. Plenty of activities and camp sites. Nice lake with green trees all around. You need to book very early (like 6 months ahead) since this is simply the best in Texas.

Pretty Park, Horrible Experience

By WanderingBodhisattva |

A group of friends and I arrived at Inks lake around 8 PM. We noticed that the park was somewhat small, extremely quiet, and the camp sites were too close together. After an hour of being there, we were visited by a police officer. When he arrived, we figured he was coming to tell us to keep the noise down. This was not the case at all. Apparently, alcohol was not allowed in the park. We were not aware of this as we were not warned before entering the park. I suppose we should have known better because it is a state park. For the next hour and a half, the police officer interrogated us, searched our cars, and threatened to give us all tickets. Luckily, he left us with a warning. After he left, we were all so upset that we went to bed. The next morning, we receive a warning on our windshield that we are unable to park in the grass. My car was only park partially in the grass and there was no room for both cars to fit on the pavement. I do not recommend this place if you are a young adult trying to enjoy nature with your friends and a few beers.

By Robbie H |

Great park not much for hiking but the water is wonderful. I am in my 20s as were the friends with me we were fine drinking at our site but we also didn't get loud or crazy to cause problems. If you are my age or want a more peaceful setting DO NOT get the eletric sites do the water only sites they are more private and spread out. The electric sites were terrible packed on top of one another and children running ALL OVER the place god so glad we didn't stay in those sites just waking thru to go swim made me want to cut my own balls off. Anyways haha great other than avoid family ally electric sites haha

beautiful little gem in burnett.

By luvmy32000 |

stopped here for a couple of hours after work the other day just to get familiar with the park and fish for a couple of hours. got a couple of bites but no luck. tried each fishing pier for about 1.5 hours each.

Great low-traffic hiking

By Austin P |

Great scenery and trail diversity. Low traffic. Lots of deer. We did about a 5 mile hike and it was great. Highly recommend.

This park has something for everyone!

By Selah-in-Texas |

We have been going to Inks Lake for years. Here is a summary of my thoughts on it:
- very family oriented with lots of playground areas for the younger kids
- young and old alike can enjoy the water by renting either a kayak, paddle boat, or a canoe
- we found that the older folks in our group enjoyed the paddle boats the best as you do not get wet and you can let someone else do the foot pedals if you don't want to do it
- free fishing clinics with use of the fishing poles and equipment on weekends
- you could easily drive here for a day trip from the Austin area
- the bathrooms are kept fairly clean and the showers are nice
- my kids enjoyed fishing at the pier but many other campers fished from the shore
- if you love animals then the Canadian Geese are there right now with their babies - they are SO CUTE!
- we also saw red headed woodpeckers, herons, scissor tails, finches, ducks, turtles, deer, skunks (including a rare white skunk), lizards, and we heard a great horned owl hooting at 4 am
- we were there during the heavy storms that hit Central Texas but this park did not get affected by any flooding and the water level rose only slightly
- make your reservations for this park early. We made ours 6 months in advance.
- the hiking trails are easy enough for the kids to do so that was nice
- check out Devil's Waterhole by either kayak or canoe as it is a beautiful trip and you can make it there and back in one hour or less.

I hope you find this review helpful!

Beautiful Lake

By lakelady35 |

Upon arrival the Staff was very helpful. We got directions to the park store, rented a canoe, and did a bit of shopping. We also ordered some lunch at a catfish and snow cone stand near the store. It was delicious! While eating lunch there were tons of birds to watch. The car windows were open, and a Cardinal was flying in and out looking at himself in the rear view and side mirrors!! It was so neat!!! Can't wait to go back and explore more of the park. I would Definitely recommend a trip to Inks Lake State Park!!

Amazing views of the stars!

By Lorinda P |

Went camping for a few days here. It has breathtaking views at sunset and of the stars at night. The water at Devil's Waterhole smelled and limited on visibility so we got back out. It's a place you would want to fish or kayak but I would not swim. Check out the hidden waterfall and on lake trail be careful it turns almost into a rockclimbing hike. Overall loved and would go back again to stargaze.

Easter weekend-1st time visitors

By M C |

Unfortunately campsites were all booked for this weekend. We stayed in a hotel in Burnet to enjoy the weekend here. They had several family oriented activities for the weekend. We did a guided hike with a ranger, Jasmine. She was friendly and knowledgeable as were staff we saw throughout the park. Lots of Amenities. There's a convenient-like store where you can buy souvenirs, snacks, toiletries, etc. You can also rent canoes, paddle boats, kayaks starting at $15/hr. You can take the canoe out towards the cliffs. Lots of people jumping into water there. Lots of turtles hanging out too! Another visitor showed us a snake he caught, reported he saw at least 8 big ones. They have a loaner fishing pole program, which we did not use as we had our own stuff. We fished for a few hours in several spots without much luck, just caught one bluegill. There's a truck that sells nachos, hot dogs, ice cream, drinks, etc. that was overpriced ($5 for two hot dogs) and not so tasty, but convenient if you need a snack. The park itself was clean and beautiful. We Will be going back to hike the trails!

Nice park

By Ashley W |

We made an afternoon stop here and spent about 3 or 4 hours in the park. Since this was our 1st time here and we love camping, we decided to drive through the camp area to get an idea of the set up. It looks like Inks Lake has a nice set up for camping; better than a lot of state parks we've stayed at. It also looked very busy the 2nd weekend of October 2016 when we visited. Despite the fact that it was so crowded, it actually wasn't that noisy. We still had a great hike and everyone we encountered was either friendly or at least respectful. Overall, we liked it enough to plan to make an official camping trip at this park sometime in the future.

Amazing fall scenery and hiking at Inks Lake SP!

By Cynthia H |

Hiking was the primary purpose of the trip - I hiked most of Lake Trail, Pecan Flats Trail, part of Woodland Trail, and the Connecting Trail between Pecan Flats and Woodland. I also hikes the Valley Spring Creek Trail and part of Devil's Backbone Nature Trail. Some of the sights: gneiss outcrops sheltering moss, quillworts and lichens. Gorgeous sunsets! Stayed two nights in mini-cabin #8. While #8 was cool, I think #7 might even be better. Both cabins look out over Inks Lake. Mini-cabins have an A/C unit and a space heater unit on the wall. It was cold so having the space heater was great. These mini-cabins have two bunk beds (twin-size mattress) so a comfortable night's sleep for folks who don't want to tent camp. Mini-cabins don't have restrooms, but the restrooms are very near. Many of the park restroom buildings have been recently remodeled, and have private shower rooms that are separated from the restroom area. Hot water was abundant and restrooms were clean. I did not have cell service at the park, but visitors on different carriers may have a different experience. I have tent camped here before, and had a good time, but this is my first visit during the fall. If it had been warmer, paddling on the lake would have been fun. I did see a few paddlers the first day - boats can be rented from the park store. On the way to the park, ate at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls - it never disappoints!

Love This Park

By Aggie5678 |

This is one of my favorite parks.

Great wide open places for the kids to play. The park was very clean and the sites are well maintained.

There are fabulous hiking paths and water activities. This is a family friendly camping experience that should be experienced by all families.

Nice park

By TMacAustin_TX |

Enjoyed our visit to Inks Lake. We rented a canoe and cruised across the lake to the Devil's Backbone. Seems to be the way to get there with young children. We jumped in the water for a quick swim. The rocks are slippery there so be careful. After canoeing we went over to the swimming area to cool off some more. Water was warm and murky but it was a nice relief after canoeing. The park had a free "Fishing with a Ranger" event at 6p that Friday, so we hooked the family up with some fishing gear and pointers from the rangers. It was great. One of the rangers seemed jaded and brusque but the other ranger was friendly and laid back so it was fine. The ranger ladies in the store were EXCELLENT and so friendly. Had lots of great advice and very patient. Did not camp, this time. :)

Beautiful!

By Mel H |

My husband and I were here last week and were amazed at the beauty of this area. The rock formations are stunning. If you are a rock hound you will love this place. Great for photographers too. We were disappointed in the access areas to the lake for fishing. When we arrived they said they gave us a lake access spot but it wasn't big enough to cast out of.... It has several rest rooms with showers throughout, which is nice but no soap so bring your own! There is even a store which had reasonable prices and a good variety for the area. The people were very friendly. There is a long winding road to get there from the main highway full of hills, so if you get car sick go slow! Great place for families and couples alike.

I remembered camping here 40 years ago.

By mcr0 |

My wife and I were traveling through the area in a motorhome. One day we took our bikes to ride around the park and hike the trails. It was during the week and the park roads were not busy at all. The hiking trails were plentiful with wildflowers and the creeks were flowing. The trails were marked okay and were not difficult. There were several birding areas for those interested. Next time we are through the area we will stay in the park in our motorhome.

Favorite State Park

By Jay C |

We have been coming to the Inks Lake state park for 20+ years and it has become our personal favorites. Inks Lake is a constant-level lake so it never varies and has some of the best photo ops in the hill country. Nice sites throughout the park, many with a gorgeous view right on the lake. As most state parks, the sites offer water and 30 amp electric. The Devil's Waterhole is another strikingly beautiful areas, making this a good destination.

Granite hills and beautiful lake

By Txluv |

Visited friends that were camped for the weekend. The rains have the area looking it's very best. The many trails are clean and walkable. Water is cool and easy access for swimming, fishing, and boating. Nice, small cabins are available at the waters edge.

Good almost great

By Kelly A |

I planned a trip to inks lake state park about a week in advance and was surprised that it was already almost filled up. We camped from Monday - Thursday. I did get space 229 and it was amazing, kind of close to the road but across the street from a little cove of the lake. And it has the most AMAZING tree! Wednesday night we had some light rain and this tree kept almost everything dry. It backs up to a field and if nobody is in 228 ( which was the case for us ) it is pretty private. There ate several restrooms / bathhouses around. Go to the one closest to Devils Watering hole, its brand new and very nice!! The one close to 229 had a broken shower and only 4 and they were unisex. Make the hike to Devils Watering hole it is Well worth the hike!! All In all it was a great trip. 2 things that I didn’t like 1. They were jackhammering some fresh concrete that was poured wrong and it started at 8am - 5pm every day. Not real relaxing, and 2. There is an older couple that work for the park checking camping registration, emptying the recycle cans etc cruising around in a John Deer all morning. They are the grumpiest people I have ever met, I wave, they scowl. He kept telling me I was in the wrong space even after I showed him my online reservations when he checked our papers. So steer clear of them if you can.

Beautiful State Park

By Dena M |

This state park is so beautiful. The scenic drive is wonderful and the palate is do well maintained. The camp areas are very well set up and so clean. The play areas for the kids are great. The restrooms are clean and plentiful throughout the park. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. And the lake is beautiful and the water is so clear. Highly recommended for a family getaway or vacation spot.

Lovely Hill Country Lake

October is a great time to visit this park, especially during the week. It was very quiet and there were not many other RV's in the park. We brought our kayak and had a great time on the lake and enjoyed our lakeside spot back in the cove. Spot 43 is really nice with a large Post Oak for shade.

Great first visit

By Isabel F |

Our first time at this park did not disappoint. We arrived around 3pm on a Saturday and hiked close to Devil's Hole. It was sweltering, but the views on the hike were incredible. After the hike we took a dip in Devil's Hole to cool off and sat around eating some watermelon while the sun went down. The restrooms available close to the water hole were clean with showers and a changing area. The staff upon entry was helpful and friendly. Definitely thinking of camping out there next time. Great first visit.

Great Park

By Rick F |

This is a fantastic State Park. We did not swim or use the water but it appeared that those using the water were having a blast. We did some hiking and the trails were very good. However, do not expect to get any information from the park rangers at the welcome center because they did not know anything.

Great State Park

By steve u |

This is a great state park. The park has tent sites RV sites or you can rent a cabin.
Cabins have air conditioners but no heat. Restrooms / showers are a short walk away.
Lots of outdoor activities for the whole family.

Great Location for a Getaway!

By Adam C |

This is a spacious park to camp, swim, kayak/canoe, fish and hike. The showers and restrooms are clean. There are a lot of things to do in and around the park. There are two nearby wineries, Perissos and Torr Na Lochs. Longhorn Cavern State park is down the road. It makes for a very good weekend getaway!

Inks Lake State Park Worth the Trip

By darcydog2 |

This park holds many memories for me. I came here in 1991 and finally made it back 12/18. Way too long to be away from here. Ok, I visited in December, but it is Texas and we know Texas in December can also be in the 60's -70's. I picked a 60 degree day. There are 2 fishing piers but you can also fish off the rocks at the waters edge. I didn't camp here this time, but did in 1991. They now have little cabins you can rent. They also are in the middle of opening newly enlarged and renovated shower and bathroom buildings. They were roped off but we could tell they would be opening soon. We went on the trail to Devils waterhole. They advise to not dive off the rocks. I love my life and I will not do this. The trail to the waterfalls is a must. It is considered an easy hike. I also went to the overlook. DO not miss this!! It is at the devils backbone trail. We didn't go on the moderate trails. I was told that these had some of the best rock formations and the highest elevation, but there was a really bad fire here back in the Fall and we didn't want to go into that area. Take plenty of water and don't miss the falls and the flats area, pink granite and other rock formations, do not miss. were Toilets are available along the trail .(portapotty)

Beautiful SP

Popular and busy. Book very early. Staff is friendly but on constant watch (I don't blame them.) Cross your T's and dot your I's. Cabins are small yet efficient. Most camping and RV spots are well shaded. Bathrooms were very clean for being so busy. Beautiful full lake and trails. Rentals available. Neat park store. Great place for families. Enjoy!

Great park for hiking

By Ana P |

We stopped by for a short hike and found the park to be easy to navigate and well maintained. The trails are well marked and the local geology is beautiful. The park is also a popular place for swimming. Looking forward to coming back and doing some more exploring.

So much to see

By Carol H |

What a nice park! We’d love to camp there but we only spent the day. Walking the trails swimming in the pools and jumping into the water. Who knew that Texas had so many turtles?

Gorgeous lakefront camping

By Ryan H |

We went Thursday through Saturday prior to Labor Day.

We stayed in campsite 44 which was directly on the water in the no wake area. The bathhouse was super close. The playground and park store were close too.

It was not crowded Thursday but Friday night the park was full and Saturday was a zoo. It was Labor Day so I get it. It was also incredibly hot for tent camping.

We did Devil's Waterhole. It was gorgeous. We hiked up the rock formations next to it. There is a long trail. Way too hot in September with kids though.

The park itself was awesome. The campsites are incredible. We could sit on our site and watch the kids swim. However, I would never visit at Labor Day. It's too crowded and too hot.

We also rented a paddleboat. We used two bungee cords and attached a giant blowup turtle and "towed" the kids around the no wake area. They had the best time.

Beautiful

This place is just gorgeous. We had such a great time hiking here. The trails are a little hard to follow at times, but the beauty makes up for it!!!

The Gem of the Hill Country

By DKinaustin |

My wife and our dog went out for a 3 day camping vacation out to Inks Lake state park, and stayed at camp sight #333, the best sight out there( my opinion).
Park was extremely clean, and quite, no loud campers or kids.
Trails were nice and not over grown, easy to follow, bathrooms and showers were nice too

Good location with a gorgeous view

By jayares2015 |

We have passed by in previous years but decided to stop and check out Inks Lake State Park on this year's Hill Country wildflowers trip. Lots of recreation - fishing, hiking and enjoying nature. The camping areas were packed, even on this Sunday morning when a lot of folks start packing up to leave. They have small cabins which are an attractive option if you don't have camping gear or just want to travel lighter. The park grounds had beautiful wildflowers, like much of the surrounding countryside. It's off Park Road 4 which was busting at the seams with wildflowers and is a great ride even at other times of the year. With all the rain over the past year, there is a waterfall this Spring (not enough water in previous years with the drought) that you can see from an overlook on Park Road 4, and can hike to from the park. We'll be back, hopefully to camp and explore some more!

Nice hiking!

By Terri S |

****Check the FACEBOOK PAGE for the park before heading out to see if it is closed or open do to high volume***** We were out here on spring break.

Recommend getting the $70 yearly pass, if you are planning on doing more than one State Park on your trip. It saved us a ton of money. Each park will charge you $6 per person. We have 6 people in our family.

We did the Pecan Flats Trail. The dot on the map and the color dots on the path didn't match up. It was a bit confusing, but we did it. There were a few spots that you had to be careful, but for the most part it was a moderate trail. We have 4 teenagers and a dog with a lot of energy, if that helps.

It was an overcast day, so I can only imagine it would be VERY hot, if the sun was out. Remember to bring enough water in while you hike since there is no where to fill up along the trail.

Only downside, is a part of the trail runs parallel to the road, which was busy at times. It was more of a noise factor than a safety issue.

This park is perfect. Tons of camping spots, cabins, boat rentals, hiking and so much more. The place is so clean and well maintained. There is a camp store in the park so you can pick up any essentials you may have forgotten. I would highly recommend a stop at this park, the views are wonderful.

Nice State Park

By Sandra J H |

A beautiful scenic state park and very popular destination so it is difficult to obtain day passes and reservations on a "spur of the moment" Go State Park.
Our stay was situated in an RV site near Devils Waterhole. I would have preferred to lodge in another RV site in the park..... but none available. Overall ..... a fabulous state park.

First camping trip with Grandchildren (2 yrs.)

By Suszanne M |

Getting to old to sleep on the ground. So we rented an RV and spent 4 days out on beautiful Inks Lake. Had a wonderful time making memories with the family. Took lots of pictures. Jumped off cliffs. Hiked on the trails. And saw lots of ducks and geese with little babies.

Tent Camping

By nel47 |

Loved it. It was peaceful and quiet since we went on week days. The only complaint would be the knats, mosquitos and flies. Make sure you bring plenty of bug spray.

Scenic and peaceful (during the week)

By Nancy R |

We had a great time and fab weather. Kayaked (rentals) and hiked. Explored the area and enjoyed watching the water foul.
Great sunsets too!

Beautiful Lake, Beautiful Sunsets

By kloveLaporte |

We stayed in site 239. It was close to the swimming hole and had water access right across the road. Next time I go I want to get site 238. One thing we didn't like about the lake was the many big non venomous water snakes. We were sitting in a chair in the water when one swam by. After that we only got in the water at the swimming hole where everyone was splashing. The campsite were very spacious and had enough room for a tent. The fishing was good but found out if you leave your fish on a stringer a snake will swim up and try to get it.

Lovely Texas State Park

By Chrisinkingwood2 |

Another lovely Texas State Park, we just drove in for a few hours. I wanted to check it out for a future trip. It was really nice, the water was beautiful. There is a beach area and a lot of trails.

Nice park for any event

By Anita C |

Such a beautiful and clean park. Lots of tent sites and RV hook ups. There's lot's of room between other sites. The lake is so pretty and the huge granite rocks are gorgeous. Great hiking trails and fishing dock.

Lots of fun

By 3longhorns |

Rented kayaks. Cost six dollars per person to get the park. Then 15 each for kayaks. Boys jumped off some cliffs in Devil's Waterfall. Water very mossy! Like Lake LBJ better. Fun day!

Devil's Backbone--Stunning views of the lake

By Colette C |

This was the highlight of our weekend getaway. The Devil's Backbone provided a moderate challenge with rocky terrain. Stunning views of the lake and rocky formations. It's now one of my favorite trails in Texas.

Well maintained , family oriented park

By Irena S |

Inks Lake state park is very clean and family oriented . Variety of hiking trails , but main attraction is Inks Lake . Water is clear and easy to get into . My favorite part was Devils Hole . It's a short hike to get into and provides and opportunity for dare souls to jump off the rocks . The rest swim risk free in Devils Hole . Park is pet friendly , definitely will come back .

We went for two nights to camp in May and the park was beautiful filled with wild flowers. Our camping site was surrounded with yellow wild flowers, we had a picnic table and water faucet. The bathrooms were very clean too and they also had firewood for $5.

I think this park is geared more for families who want to take their kids to very manageable hiking trails and a beautiful lake. There are three trails to hike with visible streams, boulders, woods, and flowers. The hiking guide lists part of the trails as "advanced" but if you are experienced and have done other hiking at places like Big Bend then these trails are more like a leisurely walk. Very easy and nice to walk on. If you have young kids I think it would be a good introduction to hiking; the trails are good for families.

The park has areas where you can swim in the lake, there were also many people with canoes and boats. It was awesome to visit during a rainy May month because we could have a fire and like I said above, very pretty green scenery. This is also a good place to visit for couples, it was very romantic to walk the pretty trails and to listen to the rain at night.

One thing to watch out for is to wear long pants if there has been a lot of rain because the grasses and other plants were super tall and abundant on the trails and we came across some poison ivy and other irritant plants that stung our legs.

If you pass by Burnet on your way to or from the park and you like croissants visit Gude's Bakery!

Beautiful!

By orange947 |

We were only there for a couple hours but loved it. Hope to return one day for a camping trip. It is a beautiful park with a gorgeous scenic drive leading to it.

SO MUCH FUN!

By SarahSt |

This was a beautiful place! Devil's hole was super fun and the hike to get there was easy. The people were nice and there were plenty of restroom spots along the drive. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful lake

By Christy B |

The park was clean, everyone was friendly. Our tent site was perfect...we were secluded, and on the water....the ducks with their babies were so cute. The hiking trails were fun and the views were awesome, it was easy enough for our 6 year old with a little help. Will definitely stay here again.

Good for a Day Trip

By Dave N |

Lots of places for longer term RVs/5th wheels, but also good for just a day trip. You can rent canoes, launch your own boat or even just fish from the bank or one of two fishing docks. Also a good park for a picnic lunch, but it is a state park so no alcohol is allowed.

FUN!!!!

By Juli C |

Devils Waterhole was AWESOME. My kids had such a great time we went back 3 times in a six day period. My son who is terrified of heights jumped from the cliffs and our Danes swam and ran all over the rocks. So much fun

Great place

Great State Park!! Lots of camping places. Also great hiking!! Totally worth a day!! There play grounds, bathrooms, showers, fishing docks.

Beautiful

We came back since it was very hot in August. We hiked the Pecan Flats trail. Well marked and quite beautiful. On our way back we saw 2 deer on our path. We took our dog and she loved it. Great for families.

Relaxing Hikes

Nice park, with lakeside camping spots (trailers), fishing pier, boat ramp. New, clean, well-lit large restrooms (with Dyson Airblades). Good hiking trails with nice views.

Great

was a great get away, especially enjoyed the ducklings that visited us every day, was very peaceful and quite.

Best State Park in Texas!

By Sandy M |

We couldn't get over how unbelievably friendly all of the park staff was... I wanted to hug our check-in ranger she was so kind and helpful. We've had some pretty lame and unprofessional experiences in the past. Other campers were quiet and considerate. There were an abundance of waterfront spots... Many folks were able to canoe or motorboat right from their campsites. Camp store was well- stocked with friendly staff. Clean restrooms and showers. Took advantage of the free loaner poles but no luck. Rented a pontoon from Splash and they delivered right to the park store dock. The lake was tiny but beautiful, and since it was an off week, we pretty much had the whole thing to ourselves. We will definitely be back.

Hiked nature trails

By Mary H |

I hiked to the bird blind past the Devils Waterhole path with my dog. All dogs we saw were on leash. It was very hot so the recommended bottle of water was needed. Dogs were not allowed in the bird blind area. The trails are very well marked and easy to follow. Parts were rocky with up and down hill sections especially the north side of Devils Backbone trail. I did have phone service for most of the hike.

Not just another Lake

By jesfire415 |

Inks Lake the perfect get away to escape the dog days of August's Summer heat. If one goes in the morning while the hiking trails and rocks are cool from night's shadow you can literally hike or bike without overheating, then by noon when your done with your hiking or biking you can take a dip in the lake or rent a kayak and go up and down in the calm waters and visit Devils Watering Hole. There are plenty of picnic tables and camping sites with with electrical and water outlets. Cabins can also be rented for $55.00 a night with Air condition but no bathroom in these cabins, but plenty of bathroom and showers are accessible. For only $6.00 per adult entry fee one can have a memorable fun filled day or weekend. Only a 2 hours drive north of San Antonio.

Nice park

By Lee L |

Nice clean park , with a great view of the lake. All the park workers were polite ,courteous with good sense of humor. The camp store has a great back porch to sit and people watch while the retired park volunteers share stories.

Lovely day at the lake

By AjnosI |

Easy hiking trails and beautiful picnic sites. Lovely areas to swim.
Facilities are very well kept and clean.

Amazing views

By Wendy H |

We were only here about an hour. It was late and we had a long drive home. We will becoming back to this park! We walked the trail to Devils Waterhole and then continued on the trail a bit from there. Some climbing so wear good shoes. The view is worth the climb! There is a fee, but it's minimal. I recommend getting a State Park pass if you plan to visit more than one park in a year. It has several great benefits!

Huge!

By Weaton13 |

We drove through to get to Devil's hole and this is a big park!!! Everyone was friendly and it was easy enough to get a day pass

Devil’s waterhole was great!

By Steph |

Devil’s waterhole was our reason for going to Inks Lake State Park. Short hike from the parking lot to the spot. Kids had so much fun jumping off the cliff. Various heights to jump from. Most people jumped off around 15-20ft. The highest point (on top of the boulder) is probably about 40ft. Pretty decent crowd in the hot July heat. Many were on floaties and younger kids splashing around, some on paddleboards and kayaks. We had no problems with parking. Clean restrooms (and showers) near the parking lot and many RVs. If we ever come back to this area, we will definitely be back.

Inks Lake the best especially for a first time camper!

By Tamara R |

Went camping/fishing for the first time as a family of 3 just for the night. I was not sure what to expect, but I definitely enjoyed myself. We arrived pretty late to the park around 6:30 on Friday and was lucky enough to snag one of last lake view campsites available as it is first come first serve. Before we went to our site, we stopped by the park store which had everything you could possibly need from cookware, eggs, milk, extension cords, firewood, ice, fishing gear/bait, swim shoes. if you forgot something, they got you covered!! We also attended a fishing event where the park ranger taught us how to fish. We had site #280 that had a great view of the lake and walking distance to the fishing pier and the shower/restroom area. There was an outlet and water pipe on the site as well which is always a great feature to have! We did some more fishing the next morning right up until we left as bad weather was approaching, so we were not able to go hiking, canoeing. But I will be sure to come back and do a full weekend here as it was an easy drive from Austin (less than 1hr and half)

Spring Break Camping

By LanceCook616 |

Seven families camped in Inks Lake SP for Spring Break! We stayed in the limited use cabins. The park was very clean and offered several things to do. We rented the canoes and paddle boats. We hiked the trails. The park is kid and pet friendly. The park rangers patrolled often which created a sense of safety and security. The park was quiet at night. A great place for family and friends!

Beautiful park

By Mollymom210 |

Very clean, lots of happy friendly people out on Columbus Day weekend. Dog friendly, good prices for fish bait. Yummy root beer floats at concession trailer next to store.

Great camping and fishing!

By Robin K |

Inks Lake State Park has so many amenities. Camping on the water, a boat ramp, dock, and a store to rent kayaks and paddle boats. It even has a little snack bar in it. The only thing I dont like is how strict they are with dogs. No dogs in the water.

Hill Country State Park

By Delbe M |

Inks Lake was one of the places recommended to see the Blue Bonnets. This year they weren't the best in the Hill Country and the Ranger advised us of that before we paid the entrance fee. We were impressed with his integrity and honesty.

Absolutely beautiful.

By Rooster C |

Beautiful scenery and lots to do. As a family, couple, or just a day alone. Boats weren't able to be rented on the day we went due to the opening of the dam from recent rains. But we were able to hike and see Devils Watering Hole, and take amazing pictures of much wildlife and wild flowers.

Family Reunion

By Misty S |

Absolutely love this place. Gorgeous and so much to do. We went with all our family, 13 adults and 14 grandkids. Swimming area is awesome as well as the fishing. Campsites were gorgeous. Shaded and some isolated but we were able to book our sites all together .
