1 of 25 Best Attractions in Wailea

Quiet beach, not too crowded, sandy bottoms, great for walks and swimming. Bring chairs and an umbrella, the sun is HOT!

Parking is usually available, there is a port-a-potty in the parking lot and a set of stairs that lead down to the beach. And it is a very attractive beach! But for us, we turn left and begin our long walk to Wailea and points beyond, walking through the water and inspecting each tide pool. This is what the beach is all about.
The beach is fairly rock free and easy to walk out in the water a bit. Beach goers are already camped out with umbrellas and all the trappings needed for a day at the beach.
Parking is also available along the sides of the road, if the parking lot is full.

Love this beach! So great to go to the little store and get a strawberry frozen drink and enjoy it looking out at the water! You can truly relax here, so peaceful!

Generally a nice beach, but the day we went it was very crowded, very noisy, not so easy to park. The water was nice, the waves were not too strong, and the sunset was very nice.

We stayed across the street from this beach and loved it. Not crowded at all if you move off of the north side by the resort. Water is relatively calm for families or playing beach games. There is a great little deli/store at the resort nearby where you can grab lunch, drinks, toys, etc. The water is quite nice for SUP as long as the trades aren't too strong.

Next door to the Mana Kai and Five Palms Restaurant this lovely beach is also close to a beach activity rental company and convenience store. Lots of parking, centrally located, portable toilets and showers in a convenient location.

If you like walking on the beach, this beach is hard to beat. There is public parking between the Mana Kai and Days Inn hotels, on the northern end of the beach. There are several sections of this beach. The second section heading south is rimmed by expensive homes and is perhaps the best. It’s somewhat less crowded. Swimming is good. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards at the Mana Kai. Prices are better than at the higher end hotels further south.

If you are staying in kihei or wailea this beach is a must see. Not very crowded, a nice quiet cove to relax and enjoy the sun on the golden sand or the shade on the grass under the palms. Nice beach services, public parking next to it. Smooth entrance into the water.

This beach is nice for being busy (for people watching!) but not too crowded. there are a number of people there on the grassy areas who are from the condos / hotel attached but the beach being public has plenty of room to come in and spread out. the best thing about beaches in Hawaii is that they are all public. Join in to the beach and enjoy. This beach has particularly great snorkeling around the reefs and has lots of fish to enjoy and turtles too! it's fun but not crazy surf too. good for paddleboarding as well and long beach walks are possible both directions from here. Also Five Palms restaurant has super appetizer/happy hour stuff for a late afternoon break from the beach!

I think this is the best beach I’ve been to. Stunning views. It gives a feeling I think I’ve only felt at maybe the gran canyon with its sheer vastness. The sand is so fine. The is coral on the right. You can see dolphins swimming by. Neat fish near the coral. And you get like 40 minutes of ever-changing beauty by way of the sun, clouds, water, and sky.
We stayed at the Days Inn as well as the Hyatt Regency. The Hyatt was a great resort but we decided to come back to the days inn 90% because of the beach. It’s that amazing

This is our go to beach when in Kihei. It's perfect for the morning walks, as it's about a 3 - 4km walk if you go all the way to the rocks by the Andaz and back. There was always enough parking in the lot, both in the mornings and again late or early afternoon. There is a shower to get cleaned off and a big porta potty. There is some shade available on the grassy area. This beach doesn't get too busy and it's also a good snorkel spot if you go in the morning before the water gets too rough. Lots of turtles here swimming by. The Five Palms has a good happy hour too!

Although it is difficult to compare one Maui beach to another, this particular beach was one of our favorites.

Love this beach...soft sand, energetic vibe, warm waters, fun people-watching, and a few places to eat or stop if you're spending the day

This is a great beach for walking, swimming, and enjoying the sea life. We viewed large sea turtles almost everyday near the shore. Spectacular experience! The beach is long and perfect for walking. Watch out for the occasional bee on the beach if you are barefoot walking.

The water is warm, the beach is Sandy and it just doesn't get better than this. There is some parking available, but not
Handicapped . It is a short, level walk to the beach. There is
Not a public restroom so that is the downside. Otherwise, this is a gorgeous place to enjoy Maui. People enter from the parking lot and bring their own chairs and even tables for a picnic or party.

This beach is never crowded and is a great beach for kids since it's shallow for many feet. Also some good snorkeling at times.

Loved it!!!! One of the best beaches on the island because if its central location in Wailea, NOT CROWDED, good snorkeling, calm water, and easy access to coastal trail and Wailea resorts. Beautiful spot to see the sunset. Really outside if Kapalua Bay it's the nicest beach (perhaps Big Beach with glistening blue waters is just as idylic) in Maui (they're all great, but this one stands out).

We were recommended by other travellers and feel like we owe them a big thanks. Located between Wailea and Kihei. Free public parking across street from beach access full covered with trees for shade (and wild chickens).
Beach access is a path between 2 mansions adjacent to cross walk.
Showers available but no bathroom or lifeguard.
Beach is 0.7 miles long, flat, easy surf, gentle waves and a few rocks for snorkeling. On calm days its like a pool, so clear. At north end of beach a few restaurants (5 Palms) you can stop for happy hour at end of day.
Bring your cooler and enjoy snacks and stay for the day. Great beach to walk, a few tide pools, great for families.

I discovered the beach in 1984. Every time I visit now he no matter where I'm staying I always make a point to go and spend at least an afternoon and evening swimming and boogie boarding on the beach. Sunsets are always spectacular,

Not overly crowded, clean and crystal clear water...Parking is free, but the lot is small (parking is also possible on the street).Showers, portapotty but no lifeguard.

It's a smaller beach, which is nice because it doesn't get too crowded. There's a small reef here, which makes it a good snorkeling spot. The waves in the morning aren't too bad, so that would be the ideal snorkeling time. We saw turtles, eels, and a bunch of cool fish. I'll definitely come back here.

Beautiful long beach that goes for miles, great for a long walk. Very quiet and not busy. Good for boogie boarding and swimming.

Fun in the sun, showers near by and a restaurant down the beach (a little pricey, but you pay for the view)

One of the most beautiful beaches on Maui with views of Kahoolawe. The beach has a gentle slope and the waves are very user friendly.

We live very near here, so we visit this beach often. It has a long shoreline with gentle surf overall. Some rocky areas to watch out for, but also they provide for snorkeling opportunities. I take my kayak out here - the ocean is shallow overall quite a ways out. The turtles sometimes hang out around my kayak. The north portion has most of the Condos, so is the most crowded area.

This is my favorite beach on Maui. It offers a great place to swim and snorkel and has an abundance of tide pools to explore.
It has a nice long stretch for walks and a perfect spot for the beautiful nightly sunset.

Love this charming beach! Be sure to get there early if you want a parking spot in the little lot. Like any beach in Maui, this one is worth packing up and spending the entire day!

If you like boogie boarding, snorkeling, scuba, swimming or just plain beaching then this beach has it all. Easily accessed and not really crowded like many others. We swam with the turtles and fish. Lovely water which can be a bit surfy at times but mostly very nice for peoples big and small.

I walk from the Royal Mauian very morning to Wailea and this is one of my favourite beaches along the way. It is very calm and not too crowded....perhaps becuse I am an early morning person. There is no life guard, but it is still a very good beach for families. It gets a little crowded near the Mona Kari, but it is a long beach, so plenty of space to separate yourselves from the crowds!

Enjoyed this wide, long beach. The turtles visited multiple times. Great spot to watch the sunset. Walk to the right for more privacy.

I love how low-key it is and how friendly everyone is. It is a great beach fine sand and an amazing view of volcanoes and Molokini.

This is a lovely stretch of beach but do mind the signs! The water can change at a moment's notice. One minute we were enjoying the mild waves and the next we were hit by 3 very large waves (at least 10 ft.) and it was pretty scary for a moment. Very pretty, but very unpredictable!

Good beach next to Days Inn in Kihei, good amount of fish for snorkeling with shower stand and public parking area. Rocks area is the place with lot of fishes, I found the water calmer in the morning than afternoon but go with your gut feeling about waves and currents if you are not a strong swimmer then don't go out far and think about safety first. No lifeguard stand so watch your kids yourselves.

Nods to Jack Kerouac and the clarity of Kihea’s sea to break your heart, alone amongst the coral glades in Maui, the bright tropical cornucopia of fish flickering before me, and me on the empty beach strolling for what seems miles on golden sands. One of Maui’s lovely tourist beaches is even lovelier during the times of quarantine. A great place to swim, too, with a soft sand bottom. Good snorkeling at the point on the north end.

This is a great beach for walking, snorkeling, or just sun bathing!! lots of beach with not so many people. You can even walk it all the way south to the Wailea Hotels very easily. Excellent family beach!!

Not too crowded, good waves, easy access, and lots and lots of wildlife sightings. While we were there, we saw many whales, dolphins, and lots of sea turtles who came very close to us!

What beach in Maui isn't paradise, and yet Keawakapu Beach, for us, truly was. Situated in front of private homes and hotels alike, the beach was clean and its water pristine. Snorkelers and scuba divers are rewarded with abundant undersea beauty. What was best was the lack of crowds.

Beautiful to walk or snorkel next to the Mana Kai Hotel. A locals' favorite. Go into the waves to boogie board or get over to the reef to snorkel on a calm morning for success. Otherwise the waves have a pretty sudden forceful break to land you on the beach.
We had a few great days, then when the Trade winds came up the rest of the week was hopeless for snorkeling.

There are less crowds here which made this an amazing beach to visit if you want a quiet relaxing time.

It seems TA is raving about this beach, so finally we had the opportunity to check it out for the day. Parking can be tricky when busy, but there are facilities like showers and such. There are stairs down to the beach so I don't think it's wheelchair accessible from that entry. The sand is soft and a nice golden color, lots of room to find a spot away from others and some the houses in the background are amazing. The palm trees back the beach for a nice tropical setting and the ocean floor is sandy so no worries about reef or rocks. It seems like a fairly calm bay, at least when we were there, so great for kids but not so much for boogie boarding, although that could depend on the weather and surf. This beach is fairly high in my top 10 now.

When I visited friends in Kihei Maui from Chicago in 2019 and again this year 2025, they said Keawakapu is their favorite beach and it is mine now too!
The sand is clean and soft. There is always ample parking and an abundance of spots to sit at on the beach. The water is warm, beautiful and the waves are gentle.
People are so nice and there is true Maui magic energy at the beach. I met locals playing frisbie
who offered to share a spot in the shade with me and we talked for an hour and listened to music together and I even had a hot guy beach stroll back to the parking lot.
Highly recommend visiting if you are looking for a less touristy beach spot but all the same sandy, ocean, beauty and magic of other Maui beaches

We were on Maui for 27 days and stayed east of Paia; however, for our planned beach days we came here most of the time. The beach is clean, the water calm (few waves) and only moderate crowding. We did stay away from this beach on weekends. I did hear that many locals who live up country chose this beach. It's good for kids because the water is calm. Parking can be at a premium, but wait a moment and a spot will open up. The parking lot is right before the Days Inn. Beach tends to clear out about 2 pm

This is called the most romantic beach in Maui. It is a beautiful golden sand beach. Lots of people snorkeling with a couple seeing sea turtles. I did not enjoy the dogs running on the beach and taking poops on the sand where people walked. Personally I think Sugar Beach is more romantic and private.

This is a beautiful beach that's great for swimming, snorkelling and bumping into sea turtles! There are a few spots that are in the shade, but overall, it's quite an exposed beach. So, bring your beach brollies!

Silky sand, safe swimming, moderate waves...great for the whole family. An awesome place to turtle watch while snorkeling and love the stand up paddle boarding rental on site. All round the best beach on the island!!

We have enjoyed this beach as it is two minutes out the locked gate from Ekahi Village condos. The sand is soft and the beach area is long and wide so everyone has plenty of safe to the beach. There are families, couples, joggers and dog walkers on the beach all having a good time. We saw a couple paddle boarding yesterday. The kids were riding their boogie boards. You access the beach even if are not staying at Ekahi. They have a parking lot across the street at the North end of the beach. I looked on Yelp finding 2960 S. Kihei road as the address. I do not if that is near the free parking. The parking going South is on the left just before the street changes Wailea Alanui Drive.

This beach is beautiful and has some of the easiest access off beach snorkeling anywhere. This side of the island is sunny and dry so you can expect excellent conditions on most days. The waves are good for body surfing. It does get a little windy in the afternoons, like most of the Maui beaches, but it is always beautiful!

By the time we reached here the sunset was almost gone. But, we have some fun here and easy parking helps. Hope to visit again.

I live close by this beach by choice. I believe that Keawakapu is one of the best beaches ever. Walking in the pure sand, snorkeling, paddling, swimming, hanging out with friends, sunsets... It doesn't get any better than this

Mornings and sunsets! Windy in the afternoon. Sandy , not rocky for swimming areas, a rocky outcrop is perfect for snorkeling on one end. There is public parking and entry here as well- this comes with a few local characters- homeless? But seemingly harmless. This beach fronted our condo complex and we found we didn’t need to go to other beaches, we loved it. Good for swimming and long walks.

Third time I have been at this beach. Great for swimming and body/boogie boarding but know for shore breaks so you need to know what to do and how to. My 10 and 12 year olds were fine. This is not the easiest for little kids.

A lovely all-rounder beach which had calm waters when we went and picturesque views. Better snorkelling opportunities at the nearby Maluaka beach

This is a wonderful beach with fine sand, that you can walk along for a greater distance than many other beaches. You can get a solid 2km walk on this beach (return). You can also walk farther and easily connect to the Wailea Coastal Walk. It isn't crowded, parking is easy and plentiful between the lot and the street. Great beach to relax at

We walked this beach every morning from the Mana Kai to the Andaz resort . Next we slipped into our fins and snorkels and jumped in the water for a daily hello to the fish and honu.
This is a magical spot. It's a huge, long strip of beach that is clean, with sparkling small surf waters and plenty of marine life to see under the water. We daily saw about 6-8 regular honu - green sea turtles, including one really old crusty looking grandpa turtle who must have been about 70 years old, evil looking eels, schools of colourful fish: blennies, angelfishes, goatfishes, butterflies, wrasses, lots of trigger fish, flounder, damselfishes, pufferfish. The coral is a bit squashed looking, I imagine because of the more inexperienced snorkelers have been putting their feet down on the coral around the easily accessed rocks, but once you go around the points where less people snorkel the coral improves dramatically.
The beach is so long that you can find yourself a secluded spot without problems. You can park in the gravel parking lot between the Mana Kai and the Maui Oceanfront Inn, or go farther down S. Kihei Road (just before the veer left to Wailea) where there is another smaller parking lot with beach access.
You can enjoy the beach views at breakfast and dinner from the lanai at the 5 Palms restaurant at the Mana Kai or the more upmarket Sarento's on the beach.

Stopped by this breach for a brief pause with the family while awaiting a dinner reservation nearby. The kids scampered and cavorted about, while the wife and I just sat and relaxed. Gorgeous, with soft, smooth sand. This would probably be a good place for a block of several hours of family beach time.

This was close by our condo so we came here nightly to watch the sunset. Great place for viewing the beautiful sunsets!

This was our 2nd visit in two years. Keawakapu beach is great for relaxation, snorkeling, and watching the most fantastic sunsets!

Keawakapu beach goes on for over a mile in Wailea/Kihei region of Maui and is one of our long time favourite beaches. The only thing missing was a fawcet to wash the sand off your feet near Five Palms restaurant and Sarento's on the beach.

This is a great beach, you can snorkel here and we did see turtles. There is a grassy area under the trees as well, all beaches in Maui are public. There is great parking.

This is our favorite Beach on Maui to walk. We start at the parking area near the Mana Kai (shaded parking off of South Kihei Road and Kilohana) and walk all the past the Andaz to Ulua Beach, then turn around and go all the way back. The beach is different every day. And you can go any time of day! Mornings, Midday and late Afternoons are all great!

Looking at these reviews after visiting, I’m surprised it’s ranked so high. I went with friends and we all did not like this beach. The vibe of the people was very off, it was right next to Days Inn. There was homeless people walking around. One even commented on my friends choice of hat and her towel. Another had binoculars and was looking at my friend in the water with them. Creep. A group of elderly were playing some music in a category I don’t even think exists. And the people next us were smoking pot if that bothers you at all. Will forever be perplexed and astounded by the amount of good reviews this beach has. Instead go to Ulua beach which is close by and much better.

Great waves for body surfing or boogied boarding in the late afternoon. Not much to see snorkeling wise. Pretty crowded but it’s the weekend.

This beach stretches for miles and it is a great beach to walk. It is also good for boogie boarding, swimming, and paddle boarding. It is also fun to people watch. Love to see people doing yoga on their paddle board and watching dogs skim board and on the from of paddle boards. Excellent fun for all!

Spend a lot of time on this beach very clean annd close to some eateries. Easy access to the beach spacious parling on the opposite side of the road

When driving south on Kihei road turn right before the days Inn sign and find a spot in the parking lot, preferably before 9:15 or 9:30am. there are shaded areas, soft sand, some rocks and even nice short grass to stake a spot and great snorkeling a little to the right, around the rocks. Fish seem to love the attention! Enjoy! This was recommended to us by a friend who is a local and lived here about 7 years. Great choice!

This beach is not to be missed. Like almost all beaches in south Maui, the sand is perfect and waves are gentle, but this beach is lined mostly by expensive ($10M+) homes and the beach can’t be seen from the street, so it is often missed. It is LONG and fairly empty. Eat at 5 Palms on the north side - their Brussels sprouts are amazing!

Keawakapu Beach is perfect for families. The beach is nice and long so lots of room to prevent crowding. The sand is flour soft and great for small kids looking to build the perfect sand castle.
The day we were there the waves were the perfect size for body seeding with shops right near by that rent boards and snorkel equipment for the day.

The beach starts right behind Mauni Kai Condos. In October, it was relatively uncrowded. The gentle slope makes it great for families with younger children. It is away from commercial areas, so feels quiet and remote. At the northern end, you can go snorkeling around the rocks where sea turtles make their home.

Loved this beach. Beautiful, great tide pools and snorkeling, not crowded. Beach walks north and south were fantastic!

If you like to get in the water but don't like stepping on lava this is the BEACH! there's a parking lot across the street and the beach is soft sand with gentle waves. Located close to two of my favorite restaurants, Sarento's & 5 Palms. You cant go wrong!

Extremely beautiful beach with gorgeous views of nature .My 3 old daughter liked it a lot.You can see small fishes in tide pools. And sunset was worth watching.Loved the place !

Read about this beach as a hot spot to watch the sunset on Maui. It was a little tricky to find -- but there is a decent parking lot across from the access sidewalk (and a shower). The sunset was spectacular -- and the beach was quiet and not very crowded - it was lovely.

We liked this beach experience while staying at Ekahi Village Wailea. Great for our 1 year-old son because the waves were small, bottom is sandy, water is clear, and we met some awesome families. Can be crowded in the area we frequented but looked much quieter just a short walk down the beach. Saw several sea turtles while snorkeling the reef from Ekahi Village area to neighboring Mokapu beach.

We are lucky enough to to vacation on this beach regularly. This is a great beach for sunsets and family.

We stayed nearby and visited this beach daily. We explored a lot of other beaches on Maui, and have concluded that this one is the best for young kids. Our son is 5, and loved playing in the water here. The waves pick up in the afternoon, like everywhere in south/west Maui, but it was always manageable. The slope of the beach is very gentle, with no steep drop off and no rocks except for the far south rocky point. That rocky point was great for tidepools and we spotted lots of cool little fishes in there.
There's a nice big parking lot, and outhouses (didn't use them), and showers to rinse off.
If you're staying at Wailea Ekahi village condos, there is a private gate access (locked with code) directly from the main pool to the beach. It's perfect.
Enjoy!

Keawakapu has been our favorite beach since first visiting Maui a decade ago. Never crowded, the surf is usually pretty calm and the views are amazing. You see turtles on almost every visit and you get whale sightings during season. Now that we live here we still make the drive to this beach!

This is a great neighborhood beach which means that when there are people sitting on the sand, they probably live in the 'hood. Easy and close parking. Never crowded. Safe swimming in the morning. Not really good for snorkeling.

This beach is divided into three sections with rocky peaks. The sand in between the peaks is very good and you don't need water shoes to swim here. Our first swim we saw two sea turtles who swam within 5 feet of us. Later on we did some snorkeling right of the Mana Kai hotel were we saw a good amount of fish including a striped eel. Very enjoyable beach but shade is in scarce supply. Bring an umbrella if you want to spend the day here.

soft sand and mostly soft waves. Great family friendly beach. Best time is the morning before 11am after which it gets hot. Bring an umbrella for sun protection.

We've spent many a day on this beach. Gentle surf, sandy bottom, great little rocky point to snorkel around. One of most beautiful beaches on Maui. If you're staying at Ekahi, easy, private access. Small public parking lot with access. Fills early.

A great beach for walking and swimming. Nice and long so people can spread out. The day we visited was very windy (trade winds in the afternoon) and we could see that people that liked to boogie board were having a great time. We walked the length of the beach to the hotels where the wind seemed to be the strongest. In the mornings, or a less windy day, this would be a great beach to set up an umbrella and hang out.

Super easy to drive by and miss it, just between Kihei and Wailea! Always quiet with small crowds, great for families of all ages and some snorkeling if you head down a bit! Showers are available when you leave to rinse off and plenty of free parking

This beach is just minutes away from food and gift shops and plenty of Maui rental condos. Beach is always clean and if your lucky you will see a turtle or two while on the beach.

Easy to get to, but enough out of the way that it never gets too busy. Great for families, often frequented by locals. Great sand, and a small reef for snorkeling right next to shore.
For snorkeling, go in the morning, as the afternoon breakers are not big but they kick up the sand.

This was our favorite beach while in Maui. Plenty of sand, warm water for swimming, just a great time.
If not staying in Wailea, well worth the drive. Park behind Mana Kai hotel, there is a free public parking. Tends to get busy on the weekend.

Very nice beach, rarely crowded, easy parking! It's the best in the area we tried many others (Whalei beach Big beach etc.)

Very beautiful and uncrowded beach where you get wet and happen to swim among turtles and various fish; often battered by wind and waves, however, it remains enchanting even in the dark under the starry sky.

amazing saw three turtles neer the rocks close to the hotel. good for skim boarding and body boarding and children and swimming the surf is not to big just big enough my favorite beach of all time stay at the resort on the beach not that amazing for snorkelling

Had an awesome day at the beach! Some parking was available. Enjoyed swimming and walking along the shore. Don't miss this beach.

I have been coming to Keawakapu beach for over 30 years and it still does not disappoint. The sand, water, and view are all amazing. It continues to get busier each time I visit, but understandable as it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you are in Maui you must make the effort to go there even if just for a walk up and down the beach. In the morning is ideal because it is when the weather tends to be best as in the afternoon the wind usually picks up, but the benefit of that is it drives away the crowds and you and a handful of people will have it to yourself. It is truly paradise.

How many beautiful beaches can 1 island have? It good to know they can have 1 more.
This beach area is close to hotels and good and has a nice sandy beach front along with good access to the water. There are some lava areas up and down this area you want to stay away from. But still lots of sand area.
This is a hot spot since it's so close to hotels and condos and supports everyone very well.
You can rent paddle boards and Kyak's as well as snorkels.
Have fun and let me hear about your fun day.

It is one of the reasons we stay in Kihei. We snorkel right out our condo. Today we made it all the way down to Polo Beach which made for an 8.7 km walk! We enjoy stopping along the walking path to refresh with a mango passion pineapple smoothie! Delicious.

Great beach! Not crowded, good waves for body surfing or boogie boarding in the afternoon. Decent snorkeling on the north end. Can get windy in the afternoons.

This beach is awesome and not that crowded. Great for families and those with young children and lots of opportunities/rental equipment and such. easy walk to eat/shop..

This beach is beautiful! Not that the others aren't (EVERY beach on Maui is beautiful), but this beach has quite a bit of parking, a nice outdoor shower, a place to rental paddle boards, snorkel gear, etc. and 2 places to eat (both expensive, but convenient). The snorkeling here is really clear with tons of different fish lots and lots of honu (turtles) and whatever else you may run across while enjoying the underwater world!

Keawakapu Beach starts (North End) at the Mana Kai high-rise, on the Wailea-Kihei border. There's a parking lot and porta-potties there. You can walk for several miles to the south, though it's technically no longer Keawakapu Beach once you reach Ulua Beach Park (parking and restroom there) and then the beachside walkway though all of the Wailea resorts (beachside restaurants, smoothies, etc). The walkway ends at the Fairmont Kea Lani (restrooms there too).
Great snorkeling at Ulua Beach Park, but it's also good at other spots, including the rock outcropping at the Mana Kai. Turtles, coral, and every kind of fish. And if you prefer sand rather than coral, there's plenty of that.
Great relaxing swimming on calm days. Generally calmer in the morning, and windier in the afternoon.
Watch out for "sneaker waves" if you are close to the sand, and be careful on rough days, the breakers can get very big. I had to help a man out of the surf near the Fairmont once, he hit his head in a big breaker and was taken away in an ambulance. There have also been a couple shark attacks at the far South end, but those are VERY rare and almost always occur at dusk or in murky water (after a rain) when it's hard for sharks to recognize you are not their food. I never worry about it on a clear day.
Don't forget your sunscreen and hat, this beach is so wonderful you will spend the whole day if you're not careful.
Lots of locals with their dogs. Great for the kids making sand castles and playing in shallow water. Great whale watching January to April, they come very close to the shore.
Have fun!

This is a nicde sandy beach which slightly slopes towards the ocean with easy access from a paved parking lot, but not wheel chair accessable - there are stairs leading from the parking lot to the beach.

We love Keawakapu Beach. It has special value and meaning to our family. Soft sand, great snorkeling with plenty of turtles and other fish right off shore. Beware of urchins near reef. Nice local and tourist blend. Right near 5 Palms and Sorentos restaurant. Deli and mini mart at the Mana Kai also near.

Have been here a couple of times. Parking lot is not huge but never have had a problem. There are bathrooms and showers here. Absolutely stunning beach. Long and Sandy. Swimming is good here and we seen whales breaching off shore.

This beach has a parking lot across the street and is accessed by a path between houses. It is a nice swimming beach with a good amount of sand to set up on. It is a good walking beach as well with a long stretch that is walkable. Bring an umbrella as there is little shade. It is about a block from our condo. Wonderful beach day close by or for a quick dip to cool off.

The far end of Wailea this beach has lots of access and is very nice. Basically starting at the 5 palms, this beach has a lot to offer. Washrooms available. Good people watching and snorkelling.

I have spent thousands of hours on this beach, sunning, walking & froliking in the waves! More upscale than the Kam beaches, but easier access than Wailea Beach - and the 5 Palms right there, ensures easy access to hh liabations!

Did snorkeling, body boarding and playing in the waves. Not too crowded. Enjoyed our time there. Would return.

One of Maui's best. Frequented by locals and condo-dwellers, many from Mana Kai Maui.Never too crowded.

Love this Beach. Perfect for a nice stroll and no drop offs or strong currents. My only complaint is there isn't a public restroom. Still, I love it here and it is by far, the best beach in Kihei with amazing snorkelling in crystal clear waters. I even questioned writing a review as it is Kihei best kept secret. Just go.

This was a very quiet beach with great waves and it was not as crowded as the other beaches that we visited. We were able to enjoy the serenity of the location. The family and I will definitely visit again.

Basically the perfect archetypical beach. It's got free parking, easy access, beautiful views, plenty of space and not remotely crowded, i can't imagine what else you could want in a beach. Keep an eye for sea turtles frequently swimming by!

This beach is great. The sand is fine, and it's a long, wide beach. The mornings and evenings are calm. It was never crowded when we were there. You can snorkel (turtles), swim, or boogie board when the trade winds pick up. You can walk forever. This beach was in front of Ekahi Village, where we stayed. Wonderful

We really enjoyed our day on this beach. Less crowded than some of the other beaches near bigger resorts and enough room to take long walks, splash around, snorkel, swim, etc. There was canoe/paddle rentals right there if you wanted. We played in the water, the sand was soft, and there are a couple of restaurants just off the sand. It was a really nice, friendly, approachable beach.

Early morning walk is my favorite. Gorgeous views of Molokini, Kaho'olwe, and the West Maui Mountains. We stayed at Mana Kai right on this beach. Parking is at a premium here, as many locales love this beach.

A locals beach in Kihei. There is no beach front parking but it has a parking lot across the street near a path that will take you to the beach. Great sand but does occasionally have a big shore break.

Great beach for all ages. The waves were a good size and could comfortable for all ages and skill levels.

If you walk towards Kihei and get past the big hotels, then you hit this beach which is expansive and has very few people. It is so enjoyable to walk there and fantasize about living in one of the houses on the beach.

This was the first beach we visited while we were in Maui and it was beautiful. Small and relaxing we loved it.

I have been to Maui 7 times and this is the first time I visited this beach because of the reviews on Trip Advisor. It is a wonderful beach, no big waves and great for swimming and lounging in the water. Then if you go over closer to rocky areas you can see all sorts of fish, big and small. The beach is really long and I parked at the dead end parking lot, not crowded at all. I would recommend to anyone going to Maui!

A long, white sand, laid back beach near Kihei. Our first stop in Maui. Then go to the Five Palms at Happy Hour for a mai tai while the sun sets. Heaven.

Amazingly gorgeous beach, three different entrances with parking, very long, great for walking! It is wide, not very crowded, gradual walk in to the water. Good for swimming. No life guards but is good for families and couples. Not a singles beach! Close to sorrento's on the beach and 5 Palms restaurants. They were even cleaning the outhouse when we were there... Good Snorkeling on both ends!

Keawakapu beach is really long stretched, so it has 3 entrances, each with parking and showers. The further into Wailea you get, either by the farthest entrance or by walking the beach, the less busy it is. You can also make it a long beach walk by continuing along past the resorts in Wailea. Highly recommended

Our condo is on this beach (Ekahi Village) and we LOVE this stretch of sand....love walking it in the morning, playing on it all day, and watching the sun set from various spots. An all around good, calm beach.

We have returned to this beach four different times. This is my favorite beach in Maui. Swim, snorkel, sit on he beach. We even saw humpback whales in the distance using our binoculars.

It was a pleasant beach with good sand and warm ater and pretty typical of the beaches along the Wailei coast.

We stayed at the Wailea Ekahi Village and simply put this was our favorite beach...never really got too crowded and the long stretch of sand was great to walk along and the sunsets from this strip of beach were amazing! Even saw a turtle swim by while swimming and the snorkeling near the small reef is good as well. Don't know if there are better beaches on the island but this was our favorite over Makena and other stretches on Maui!

Keawakapu is great local beach for walking, sunset, easy swimming and beautiful views. Dogs are also allowed and parking nearby!

Spemt some time walking in the sand and sitting and watching swimmers in the water. Will go back swimming today. Very nice spot.

Absolutely beautiful is all I can say to describe this awesome beach. We stayed not far from the beach but not matter it is easy to get to.

This beach was beautiful! Also, it is great for families and a great swimming beach!the waves were good and not too rough! There was some rocks that were cool to explore and held some crabs but the crabs mainly stayed near the water by the rocks so they were not a bother.

Clean, beutifule and enjoyable. Always a place to sit and enjoy the water and waives. Not a lot of rocks.

Keawakapu Beach is a Maui favorite of mine for 30 years. It provides a beautiful beach, nice swimming, a good beach for a walk. It does not have much natural shade, so bring your own shade if needed. Also, only a porta potty off the parking lot, but does have a shower.

Locals call Kawakapu Beach "Sidewalks." Your GPS may not lead you directly to the parking lot or beach access but will take you near by. Going toward Wailea, make a right immediately after the Kihei Boat Dock parking lot. You will find a small parking lot where some convenient restrooms are located. The beach is deemed "Sidewalks" because you walk a short sidewalk to the beach. There is a Days Inn located right on the beach with beautiful grounds, lawn that meets the sand, etc. We set up for the day on a super cool lawn couch of sorts. Kind of a grassy knoll with a small berm that created a natural couch like setting right on the sand. On the other side of the parking lot is an Italian restaurant.
The beach itself is fabulous. Soft white sand, gentle water especially in the morning before the tradewinds arrive in mid-afternoon. There is some good snorkeling here in the early mornings. Lots of fish and turtles. Not too crowded. One of the best beaches we visited while on Maui!

It's easy access beach in the heart of wailea. Don't get busy and nice parking. Locals are around and big hotels nearby.

This is another great beach on this side of Maui. In general it is a lot safer than the beaches around Lahaina which can have reasonable size swells. From here you can walk about a mile in each direction, I assume onto other named beaches but all the sand in this part is soft and easy to walk. Good water sport activities apart from surfing.

This hidden away little beach was just down the road from our condo -- nice and quiet and we got beautiful sunset photos. Nice beach for sun-bathing, too!

This beach has close parking in the shade and was easily accessible. The beach was clean and not overly crowded during a busy time of year. It was also not too far from the beach rental companies so we were able to get everything we needed.

Beautiful beach and great bay for swimming, the water is beautiful! Only able to visit for a few minutes but will plan to stay for the day the next trip to Maui!

Our condo was oceanfront to this beautiful beach. Took many
walks, swam and watched the green sea turtles here. The sunsets were always gorgeous and varied. Be careful as
there are no lifeguards if you get far out form the shore.

This is a fairly long beach with very nice sand and usually lots of room to set up your beach chairs away from the hotel at the north end, which gets a little busy with hotel guests.
The rocky areas are good for snorkeling, with easy access from the beach. There is usually good waves for boogie boarding that aren't too huge for smaller kids.
There are a number of entrances and parking areas close by. There are also shower facilities at at least 2 of the entrances to wash the sand out of your bathing suit or from your beach toys.
I highly recommend making a stop at this beach.

We always return to this beach to recharge our batteries and catch some rays. If you arrive before 9:30, you should have no trouble getting parking. There is one port a potty and a wash station for removing sand. The beach is long and wide, seemingly untouched by the February storms. The sand is lovely and you can get a good long walk in. The water is clean and clear and the waves are not as dangerous as Big Beach. More accessible for families and small children. My first choice every time.

I loved this beach! The sand was great and the surf was gentle. I enjoyed swimming in the water here and even got to see a few sea turtles without snorkeling gear. We didn't even go to Makena beach because we enjoyed this beach so much.

We recently stayed in Maui for a week and made sure to check out a different beach on the island every day. We went with a 9 and 6 year old. This beach ranked #1 or #2 for everyone. There were high surf warnings all across the island during our stay, but this one had "just the right amount" of surf for the kids. Not scary big waves, but still fun enough to play and jump in safely. The sand didn't drop off but went out very gradually, so the kids could actually go quite a way out and it was still only past their waists or so. There are 3 different parking lots to use for beach access. We used the 3rd, and I believe the smallest, and had no problem finding a spot... however, we did get there before 9:00 am. When we left at about 11:00, there were many vehicles lurking around looking for a space. I advise you go early! (And why not- the most beautiful weather we had was first thing in the mornings!) There was also a fair bit of shade from trees just behind the beach, if you are looking to get a spot out of the sun. We felt we had plenty of room on this beach, despite all the parking lots filling up. There was a shower on the way out to our parking lot.

Nice Walkable Beach area that goes for 2 miles and connects other wailea beaches Calmer waters than the west side

Beautiful long beach which is great for walking. Not at all crowded, even on the weekend with magnificent views of Molokini, Lanai and the Mountain of West Maui.

This beach was a lovely walk down from our accommodation. It had lovely sand, clear water, and not much of a rip tide. A perfect day at the beach for our family.

beautiful pristine beach. Few parking spots, but a beautiful place to spend the day. No bathroom except a porta potty but the sand and sea are heaven on earth. Extra special.

Easy access if you can find it. You can park in general public...only about 30 spots but you can park at Ulua and walk to the right about 10 easy minutes Showers, level beach, friendly.

This is a gorgeous, sandy beach, a bit surfy but if you like diving in the waves, this is the place.

Actually any day I'm at the beach I feel like I've won the lottery. Keawakapu has it all - great walking beach, excellent swimming, snorkeling at the ends, showers, and sunshine all day :-)

This was the beach we liked best during our recent visit. There is a nice parking lot right across the street. The beach is busy in the morning, and by early afternoon you'll have it mostly to yourself. The waves definitely pick up later in the day. Washroom facilities are a bit of a hike, and not as nice as at the more public beaches.

Since we were spending Easter on Maui, friends who live there invited us to a pot luck picnic dinner on Keawakapu Beach. What a way to spend Easter! Good food, meeting new people, time with friends, and what a beautiful setting! Easter in paradise on earth!

This beach had some of the calmest waters I encountered on my recent trip to Maui. I'm not sure if the docile seas are the norm, but on the days I visited Keawakapu the waters were very easy going. Further added bonus for easy access and multiple locations to park.

Great location excellent for any person to enjoy. Waves were just perfect. We went to this beach everyday. Not crowded and great access.

Our condo was across from Kam 3 where we spent most of our time, but was also walking distance to Keawakapu, so we spent a day here. It is a long beach, and narrow at the northern end. So finding a spot, even at 9 am, was challenging. Snorkeling was great, once you got past the throngs of people. Healthy corals and fish life. Lots of eels. Turtles swim by regularly.

This is such a walkable beach, we go every time we are on Maui. The surf is good for swimming, found this beach to be a lot calmer than many we visited. Parking is limited, and be careful to lock your car. We saw a little criminal activity here one morning.

We visited Keawakapu Beach for a day. It was one of our best beach days in Hawaii. It was an excellent beach for walking, swimming, snorkeling, and sitting. There are chairs and umbrellas to rent as well as snorkel gear. Also excellent ocean/turtle views plus dining options at the resorts on the beach.

One of the best beaches on Maui. Swim, windsurf, relax, boogieboard. Perfect for long walks. Su.nsets

Definitely agreeing with the masses here, to say that this is one of the best beaches that I've visited in Maui. It is a fairly large beach and not crowded at all! We felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves!!! The sand very nice and fine; and the water was very calm compared to other beaches on the island. Strongly recommended!!!

A nice long stretch of beautiful sandy beach, and close to Keihei also. In addition, it has two parking lots (one at either end of the beach), so it's usually fairly easy to get a spot to park. Also liked the fact that the Five Palms Hotel was at one end … nice and close if you want to pop into their beachside lounge for a snack or beer!

Besides Makena/Big Beach, this was our favorite South Maui beach. It is not a wide beach but it is long and, thus, never crowded (even during busy Easter week). The sand was powdery fine and the waves seemed to break off shore so it was easy to swim without getting crushed. It was so neat to be in the water and have sea turtles swim right by you--close enough to touch--as they went back and forth all day....a local said they travel between the rock formations along the coastline. This was also the beach where people brought their dogs for exercise {and since I missed my fur baby....} We utilized the hidden little parking lot where South Kihei dead ends in the residential zone and walked to the right to get to the more private area of the beach. As stated, lava rocks and tidal pools to explore on either end. It is not life guarded...if that matters to you.

My fourth time to Maui - and wanted to do long walks to get ready for a ski trip. Funny thing, I was at this beach once before and wanted to come again but wasn't sure what it was called. We booked a place right on Keawakapu beach and
was pretty amazed and happy it turned out to be this beach:)

This beach was walking distance to the Wailea Beach resort. It was a lively beach where you can boogie board, snorkel or play in the soft sand.

this beach is wonderful. Not overly crowded. Long stretch of golden sand with rocky shoreline which makes for great snorkelling. Many kinds of acquatic life including sea turtles. The Mana Kai condos are right on this beach along with the days inn hotel.

We found this beach to be uncrowded early in the day. Nice beach to walk along or go for an evening stroll.
Easy private access from Ekahi condos. Public parking also.

My husband and I used to live on Maui and this is one of our favorite beaches. It is beautiful, a very quiet beach. It has a shower to rinse off after a swim. We always feel as if we are on a private beach when we are at this beach.

Always on my must see list for Maui. Just a real cute little beach that’s easy to walk and unlike so many other beaches, the waves seem manageable for average swimmers like me. Parking is limited but we always seem to luck out. Just don’t leave valuables in your car, there are always suspicious types lurking around.

There's a public lot in front of the Mana Kai Resort where you can start your visit to Keawakapu. Park it and lock it with no valuables inside or in the trunk. That's the rule at all beach parks in Hawaii.
Then, skirt the resort and walk to the left. A mile long beach lays before you. It's flat and has reasonably firm sand so it's easy walking. See the point far in the distance? That's where you're headed. One round trip and you'll be properly tanned. Then hang in the shade back by the Mana Kai and have some refreshments.

Our condo is right on this amazing stretch of sand so we can stick our toes in the sand anytime of the day. It's perfect for swimming, snorkling, people watching, paddle boarding.......and safe for the wee ones to frolic in the gentle waves.

Our favorite beach in Maui. If you're already staying in Kihei or Wailea, why go anywhere else? Save the air quality and leave your car parked where you're staying!

We had driven by this area during sunset one day so decided to stop by the beach. There are a couple larger stretches of sandy shoreline to relax on, but we had found a little area near some rocks to enjoy the sunset views.

I stayed at the Days inn at the North end of the beach. I walked most of beach during my 10day stay. I found the lava rocks just in front of the hotel to be fascinating for shell collecting, fish watching, and just exploring.
There were relatively few intact shells but I did find a few but try Baldwin Park Beach if you like shelling.
There were lots of small creatures in and among the rocks- crabs, sea urchins, juvenile fish and such.

We were on the hunt for another awesome beach and found this one.
It is great, it has a couple points that have lava rock croppings which we find really cool,
Unfortunately the wind was really bad on our short walk visit...great for the kite surfer guy, he was having a blast.

And you have keawakapu. The sand is a deep orange, some of the softest you will ever set foot on. There is a decent surf spot towards the southern portion. With views of Molokini, Kahoolawe, and Lanai, the sunsets here are unforgettable.

Great beach for snorkeling, sunbathing, walking and people watching. Showers available for after you swim...always a bonus.

Beautiful dog friendly beach that stretches almost one mile from Ekahi Village (South) to Mana Kai hotel (north). Locals often walk there pooches here. Can be decent snorkeling at either end early in the morning.

It can get crowded due to the number of locals, especially on weekends. It offers very fine sand and good ocean access. Some surfing. Good snorkeling around the North end rocks with turtles.

Always waves lapping at the shore and a private beach in that a lot of people don't know about this sort of hidden gem. Much less wind and waves here than on other locations on the island. . . not too near to hotel row which is a good thing. . .

So this turned out to be our favorite beach in Maui. There are three entrances, a north, south, and central. Our favorite spot was a little south of the central entrance. There's also nice parking here. There's a lot across the street. Plan to turn left at Kilohana drive, if you are traveling south on south Kihei road. The parking lot is immediately on your right, nice and shady. There is a sign, but it is partially covered by tropical vegetation. Cross S Kihei Road towards the beach, and go slightly to the right of the crosswalk and you will find the entrance to the beach. This is largely in an area of large residential homes. We found during the week that this parking lot didn't always fill. We could go at 10 or 10:30 the week before Easter and still find a spot. On weekends, that wasn't so. A little after 1:00, folks with families tended to take off and you could often find a spot freed up. We liked this beach because it is somewhat protected but there are also spots where the boogie boarding and body surfing were great. South of the central entrance just before some rocks near the beach, you'll find the surf is a little bigger. Just a hair further north, and it's much softer. Not sure why the big change over a short distance, something about the shape of the coastline. Restroom facilities are somewhat lacking. At the south entrance there was one porta-potty, but that was it. Central entrance and south entrance both have showers to rinse off sand. By mid-afternoon you could have a nice chunk of the beach totally to yourself. When the surf was higher there were people of all ages, and I mean all ages, enjoying body surfing and boogie boarding. It was fun to watch them all enjoying it together. We brought lunch along, and would enjoy half a day at a stretch. We usually stopped at Maui Gelato on the way back to Kihei.

A long stretched and wide beach. Nice and calm, not much people though a lot of hotels and condos a lokg the beach. Perfect beach to soak some sun!

As a diver and snorkeler, I hit several beaches when I travel. Incidentally, this is the only sandy beach I visited in Maui (there are many). I was traveling with my brother, his wife and teenagers and we all decided to spend our last evening watching the sunset.
I was actually attempting to locate a different beach for some late snorkeling, but forgot some gear (this is about 2 minutes from the Aston Hill (Maui Hill) in Wailea), but I am glad I stumbled on this location after all.
This is the most scenic beach I visited, due the contrast of black lava rock against white sand as the sun fell into the ocean. Children were building sand castles, locals walked dogs, swimmers were swimming and photographers were..well, you get it. This beach had it all and was perfect for play in the day and a peaceful walk at dusk. Keawakapu beach was the prefect end to an amazing trip!

Although the pictures look dark and dreary, it was a peaceful stroll along the beach and waterline while Tropical Storm Darby was approaching Maui. Please understand that once the storm passed, the coastline was sunshiny, warm and inviting, full of people enjoying the beach. We think we enjoyed it even more when it appeared we were the only persons strolling the beach. We would definitely return to enjoy it's snorkling opportunities.

I loved this spot. The waves are moderate to calm, the water is crystal clear, the sand is wonderfully soft, and the whale watching is great!!

This is not just my favorite beach, it's my favorite place on the earth. The beach is clean and safe. Snorkeling is easy by just wading into the water and looking toward the rocks. Snorkeling equipment can be rented onsite.

My husband and I are on Keawakapu Beach Right now! Parking was a breeze in the well shade parking lot across the street. Soft sand. Reading and watching kite surfers. Awesome and relaxing!

This is a very beautiful beach with views of Molokini, Kahoolawe, and Lanai, plus there's all the wildlife around to make it extra magically Hawaiian!

This beach has a beautiful panorama, hills / islands on the far horizont, high palms, golden sand, sunnnn🌞. The only problem are the high waves. If u cant swimm, u r done. A visit worth definitely!

Great beach for walking. Also love this area as there's great restaurants, shopping, etc. Prices here are better than prices up north in the Kaanapali beach area where we stayed.

This beach was about 15 minutes from where we stayed but it had good reviews. There is a large parking lot next to Days Inn with plenty of beach access parking. Clear waters, pretty sand, some rock outcrops where ther was good snorkeling. Lots of people watching. There were showers but bathroom was pita potty

I live near this beach and walk it almost every morning. It is beautiful and relaxing. Keawakapu is jus far enough from resorts for privacy but close enough that if you want to run and get some food or drink you can.

There is a small parking lot as well as street parking for this beach. We went to scout it out because some friends were married here 10+ years ago and we wanted to take a picture for them. It was very pretty. There is a place to rent all kinds of beach gear, snorkels, paddle boards, boogie boards, etc. We didn't do that so I'm not sure of the cost but it's available. There is a small restaurant on the beach as well. There are port-a-potties right at the entrance from the parking lot and showers for feet.

Huge strange of white sand beach and amazing beautiful blue water!! On a good day we where able to spot lost of turtles and Dolphins. Had a great picnic and dried up before we got in the car. Must go again!!

Golden sky, gentle waves, and a horizon that melted from orange to lavender — the kind of sunset that makes you forget your phone… until you remember you have to capture it.
My favorite on the island where I live!

wonderful condos and resorts in area. a nice beach path as well that goes for 3 miles. no smoking on beach.

We love exercising on this beach and do so each time we visit Maui.great sand and wonderful surf, you will enjoy it.

This beach is broken into 2 sections separated by a coral reef in the middle. Two places to park and enter the beach. The beach is great for mostly enjoying the waves or boogie boarding. It’s normally a calmer beach, great for kids, not great for snorkelling at either reef but if it’s really calm, it’ll probably be good. An easy beach to enjoy

This might end up being my favorite beach on Maui. It's so hard to pick favorites with so many gorgeous options... but I'm biased because I stayed on this beach and loved the ease of walking outside and being here! The water was incredible- so warm, clear, and excellent for snorkeling! If you want a beach where you can snorkel without having to swim too far out, this is a great choice! There's a rock formation right next to shore that provides for great snorkeling. I would say that it's safe for older adults and children alike, as the water is generally really calm and peaceful (my mom worries a lot about currents, and she felt safe here). We found mornings/early afternoons to be the calmest time of day, and we visited in late May. We attempted to swim around 6 pm one day and it was quite rough (we got out after 5 minutes of being knocked around). The area around the Mana Kai building can get a little bit crowded on weekends and holidays, but it makes sense as it's a really nice beach and there's a public access walkway and parking lot adjacent to the facility. Watch out for a couple spots where there are rocks/iron pieces sticking out of the sand... it's only in a couple places in front of Mana Kai that I noticed them, but it's something to be aware of if you are with small kids who may trip over them. Generally, the water is really clear and you can see anything in front of you. This is also a wonderful spot for "long walks on the beach"... it can make for some really beautiful photos. I saw a family doing a photo shoot around sunset and I bet it made a spectacular backdrop. If you walk down the beach a ways, there will be places with very few people and you can feel like you have your own private beach! I can't wait to be back!

We stayed close by and it's picture postcard beautiful - clean sand, palm trees, clearest blue ocean and very safe swimming and snorkelling. Best time to be there is as the sun rises above Haleakala around 7.30am and the ocean is flat calm - just magical!

Best beach on Maui. The water is perfect for swimming, snorkeling or just wading. And best of all you can watch the sunset right there under the palms.

We stayed at the Marriott. It has no beach front property so we found ourselves walking north and taking advantage of the beach everyday. While it had many others taking advantage of its sands and water, it was never crowded and was great for walking. Loved it. Good reason to come back to this area.

Always feels like a special treasure... great location to stay and just be on the beach, walk south on the beach and continue on the Wailea Beach Trail, or to the north at sunset to watch the tiki torches being lit as the conch shell blows, or to the little harbor to catch a boat to Molokini to snorkel or whale watch. Or whale watch direct from the shore as well as snorkel off the rocks nearby.

We ended up finding Keawakapu beach while we were driving around checking out the area. What a great find! There’s limited parking so the beach wasn’t too busy which was really nice. It was very clean and sort of secluded and the waves were great. The perfect beach for a relaxing day in Maui.

This is my go-to beach. Some times are crowded more then others. Mornings and evenings can be pretty amazing for a romantic stroll and the day time is great to bring the whole family.

It is a beautiful beach! I loved the paddle sports (outrigger, kayak, sup) and just riding the waves.

Great place to chill and swimming. Pretty good snorkeling on the north side of the beach but you have to go out a waysfrom the beach

We love it. Beach sand with plenty of space. Sea is very calm. Remember to bring food and water if the day.

For 9 days with my family that included 5 kids 13 and under. The resort is on Keawakapu Beach which is my favorite beach on Maui. Long and wide with plenty of room for lounging sunning and walking. The swimming is safe but of course it’s ocean so you want to be ready to handle what the ocean can offer—waves currents and some marine life. Very good snorkeling. The beach offers good dining at 5 Palms and Sarento’s at the Mana Kai end. It’s south Kihei and Wailea at its best

Fantastic view all along this very BIG beach, as its called. Very nice place, lots of beachgoers but lots of space for us all.

This is one of our favorite beaches to take long walks on in the mornings. The sand is clean and lovely, with very few rocky areas. The beach-goers are spread out, so not overly crowded. Also a great place for the kids to go body-surfing. Good people watching and lots of gorgeous homes to look at as well. We start out from Kamaole Beach III and walk the length of Keawakapu - love it!

There are no hotels fronting this beach, only private homes and condo developments. But the beach is excellent - no rocks, except at either end of the half mile sweep of sand (where there is passable snorkeling). The depth of the beach is excellent, with lots of room for beach chairs to be set back from the surf.
Sorry, if you read my review of Ulua beach, what I wrote there was a mistake - I was really intending to review this beach.

The beach keawakapu is stunning! Our first day here and I Know I will be exploring for the next three weeks! The sand is clean, the people friendly and I saw people picking up after their dogs!

Beautifully, stunning wide-view beach with amazing coastline
This beach is pet-friendly too. With two great restaurants- FivePalms and Sarentos
Snorkeling, surging and body-boarding is popular too
Don't miss this gem- uncrowned too

We stayed at the north end of this beach at Mana Kai Hotel. It is a beautiful stretch of sand. The surf was very rough, though, good for board sports but dangerous for kids to swim in. We are not used to such big waves in NJ!

Each night we would do a sunrise swim using the public parking area at the south of the beach. No issues finding parking. The sand was soft with very little debris and the waves were mild and perfect for swimming. Views of north Maui and several other islands were amazing.

I go there on work related checks for people keeping their dogs on leashes. MOST times it's in compliance with codes/dogs. It's a great place to take a long walk on the beach with warm ocean water to swim in and plenty of sand to make sand castles!

Quiet, open, expansive and beautiful at any time of day. Swimming here is good (can see turtles), just sitting here is good and walking the full length of the coast is also good. Sunset with some takeout and drinks is wonderful. Like this place

Best water to paddleboard you can see the fish swim by as you go around Black Rock. In the mornings the water is really awesome to enjoy. With Whalers Village right there you can refresh after the beach really easy.

Always a beautiful beach to visit - highly recommend going to as many beaches as possible when in Hawaii.

Gently sloping, pretty long beach which is great for swimming, walking, and watching the sun set. Perfect sand. Easily accessible. Except for the hotel at the north end of the beach, there are no facilities. Somewhat less crowded than the nearby Kamaole Beaches.

This was a great beach for families. The beach was wide and long. The beach had small waves which made it great for the kids to play in. The is a coral reef about 30 yards off shore with plenty of snorkeling if you want. The beach had a shower near Kihei rd. The color of the water was a gorgeous turquoise. This should be a must visit for any family visiting Maui.

Great place to stretch, swim, read and walk and enjoy the sunset. Walk back and enjoy drink on the deck at the marriot. See turtles by the rocks. Lovely beach.

I'm afraid to say this the best beach we saw because it was so quiet and tranquil and just sheer perfection in every way because I would love for it to stay so quiet for when we return. So, in that vain, cross off the above review and just keep reading...we all know there is no such thing as a perfect beach...and this certainly isn't it. Move along, nothing to see here. :-)

Beautiful beach with flat waves, crystal clear water and soft sand. This beach has a small parking lot that had a couple open spots, in a very nice neighborhood. Worth the drive from Lahaina for the day!

Parking was easy and available. A toilet is located by the parking lot. A few steps down to the beach is an outdoor shower. Not many people were here so it was very calm and relaxing. The sand was soft and the water was warm with minimal waves. Returned to this beach a few times during our stay.

We have traveled up and down every beach on Maui and hands down Keawakapu Beach is my favorite beach. It has soft sand, tide pools to explore, rocks to look at and clear ocean playing areas to play and snorkel. My favorite thing to do is sunrise and sunset walks down the beach. This beach has a perfect view of the sunset each night and a great flat nice walking stretch to walk.

Our family had a blast at this very relaxing beach heaven.
Beautiful waves and terrific sand, it was never crowded. And, the views are splendid in every direction. And yes, you may very well locate Hawaiian Turtles swimming by just as we did.
One point worth noting is that the wash-off shower stand is located at the public access from the Kilohana drive.
Enjoy!

What a lovely beach-glad our local friend recommended this one to us. Ocean was on the calmer side at this beach, although we did get a few good sized waves. Really not crowded at all. No bathrooms here, but showers at the top, and a little shop close by to buy drinks. We had a lovely afternoon swimming and relaxing. I think this beach gets overshadowed by the nearby Kamaole beaches-which was fine by us! Kept it a little more private for us.

We have stayed in many different areas in Maui and experience many different beaches Keawakapu seems to have it all great swimming rentals right nearby not too busy especially during the week

Amazing Sandy Beach never crowded no high-rise hotels lots of locals. There's a surf shop located in the Mana Kai as well as a restaurant 5 Palms so you can get anything you want here

Hidden away and mostly uncrowded.
Although this is a public beach, it fronts a effluent neighborhood. The water is usually calm and can be enjoyed for swimming and weather fun. There is a shower for rinsing off and a portable potty. There is a small parking lot right above the beach and a much larger one down the street a bit.
Go early or later in the day for best parking availability.

In Kihei. walk for miles. Great swimming along Kihei beaches. Also love Kamaole Beaches 1,2,3. Lots of turtles swimming by, good morning snorkeling by the rocks and great sandy bottom

Parking is across the street and although it can get somewhat crowded, there's plenty of beach to find a quiet spot.
This is my favorite place to watch the sunset and a lot of people come for that. If you're there at the right time of year you'll see whales out on the horizon as a bonus

We have tried them all and keep coming back to keawakapu. It is entertaining to watch the paddle boarders and kayaker attempt to enter the date when it is wavy on calm days it has some of the best snorkelling on the island and you can always spot turtles it is a protected bay can be calm in the morning and ther is zacks deli right behind and the 4 pals so you don't have to go far. The water is warm and beautifull

This is a great beach. Perfect sand and the right size waves, not too scary but still great for boogie boarding. The beach is quite large so you can always find a spot even if it’s crowded. Shaded parking lot. No shade on beach. Water is crystal clear. Have always managed to get a parking spot. We were at Ulua and Polo but found them very Rocky from a recent storm.

Just spent an amazing week visiting this beach daily from sun up to sun down with family from 90yrs to 7 yrs.
Best waves, best water temperature, uncrowded beach, multiple turtle and whale sightings. Magnificent sun sets, calm early morning dawn swims....
People watching, sand castle and fort building included. Easy access, with showers, washrooms and parking.

Very nice beach and not too crowded on week days. Great views and can snorkel not too far out. Nice waves, not to rough good for kids.

We usually walk from Kamaole Beach II but this beach actually starts at the Mana Kai Maui. There is free parking in the area on an unpaved lot, with a few visitor spots on the paved surface near the water front. Heading south you literally can walk for hours. This is a very popular, well used walking walking beach. It is a large beach so people are spread out enough it does not seem busy. The other parking area at the end of the beach is a little busier. A good swimming beach anywhere, and snorkelling at either end around the rocks. There is not a lifeguard at any of the southern beaches except Big Beach.(Makena) You can walk about 45 minutes to Wailea beach.

Beautiful Beach. Not too crowded. Saw whales from the shore line- far out! All the beaches are beautiful in Maui

I think we may have had the best beach on the island about 100 feet outside our condo door. The beach was calm and beautiful, and there was a great little cove to the north end with excellent snorkeling. You can walk south on the beach to the high-end Wailea resorts and their beaches, or walk north along lava outcrops for as far you feel safe walking.

Great Beach.. free and ample parking! The water was clear and beautiful! A must Beach on your Maui vacation!

Was recommended by friends and it was worth it! Got busy around lunch - but that was expected. It was March break!

Great beach. Small Parking lot. Get there early. Was not crowded when we were there. Not much shade, bring a umbrella. Beautiful scenery. Will be back here next trip for sure.

Our family loved this beach and had lots of fun boogie boarding. Recommend for family fun. No lifeguard. Small FREE parking lot.

My wife and I have stayed at a place on Keawakapu Beach 3 times. For our 50th wedding anniversary we decided to take our adult kids and grandkids to Hawaii. We stayed at a place on Keawakapu Beach. We think it is the best beach on Maui - a beautiful beach! Our kids and grandkids agree with us. We had grandkids between the ages of 6 to 19 with us and they all loved Keawakapu Beach. It is a great ocean area for kids and adults. My wife and I love to walk this beach. Our adult kids liked walking this beach and said it is the best beach they have been on. When we return to Maul, we will be staying at a place on this Keawakapu Beach.

Beautiful beach, calm blue water, and great snorkeling at the north end! We saw lots of turtles and tons of fish while snorkeling and the calm clear water was great for swimming and just floating around. Not too crowded. We went there once earlier in our stay and the family voted to return for our last beach day on Maui. I give it my highest rating.

1/2 way through our vacation on Keawekapu Beach. So much fun! A diverse, non-pretentious beach with great waves, snorkeling and just chilling. Second year here and loving it.

You can walk to this beach from Wailea. It is beautiful, lovely golden sand. It is fairly shallow, so good for younger children. There are less rocks here, it is also not too rough.

We loved our daily walks on this beach and our picnic dinners watching the sunset. Nice for swimming too.

Beach tour of Maui was fun to say we experienced. Beach was sandy- easy to walk on. Not many shells. Easy tide to play in. Calmer in the morning.

You'll almost miss it. Beautiful, clean, wide sandy area beach- Lots of rock formations in the shallow shore end that you can climb on for some awesome photo shoots.
This is a residential area of some amazing homes, very private. There's also shaded public parking across the street.

Great weather, large crowds, high surf and poor beach snorkeling. Great sunsets. Stayed in Kihei but travelled to Lahaina and Piia. The Tres Amis restaurant in Piia is lovely.

Located off S Kihei Road south of the Kihei Boat Harbour, they have a beach parking lot and a narrow walkway from the road down to the beach. The other option is to park at Ulua Beach and walk back.
This is a long, fairly narrow beach with fine golden sand and an easy entry into the water. Unless swells are coming from the south we find this beach safe for kids getting into/out of the water and swimming.
Lots of shade at the back of the beach.

This beach was rigtht near our hotel. it is very quiet compared with other beaches and offers great snorkeling opportunities. It has it's own "turtle town". You'll want to stay forever!

Not too crowded, not too noisy. Sand wide enough for some privacy. Parking reasonably close, and few rocks underfoot for when the surf tosses you a bit. Our go to beach in Wailea.

We saw two turtles. One small one and one that was MASSSIVE! I've seen several turtles in my life, but this one was by far the biggest. It looked old. We followed it from deeper all the way into 2 ft of water, where it appeared to be nibbling on a rock.

This is our go-to beach in South Maui as it is not only beautiful but it is close to Kihei and Wailea (where we normally stay). The winds can pick up mid-day so going early is best. Enjoy.

I was astonished to find such a pleasant public beach in over-developed Wailea. I walked from the north along the coast, so did not have to deal with the cars and parking associated with South Maui. It's a wide and long beach with great waves and a laid-back vibe. Hope it stays sweet.

Great beach, usually not too crowded. There is a parking lot across the street with free parking. This beach is only about five minutes from Maui Kamaole where we always stay.

This is a beach sandwitched between Wailea and Kihei/Kamoale beaches.
It is about 1/2 mile long sandy beach with public access from south side - about 20 parking spots
Most of the beach is lined by private homes with a single hotel on the North side - that is why it is never too crowded.
It is one of the best beaches in Maui - good for morning walks, swimming, snorkeling (there are some coral reefs near by with crystal clear waters) and watching the sunset.

No lack of beach options Maui. We were at South end of Kihei and this beach was a couple minute drive to get to, but worth it. Wide, not to busy. Calmer sections and wavier sections (good for boogie boarding, surfing, SUP). Porta potty in parking lot.

Nice beach with good swimming in the morning. Not to crowded, limited parking. Port A Potty washroom and shower. Go in the morning as it gets windy by noon as is the case for most beaches in the area.

Great beach for everything and anything. Great for first time visitors a must see. Nice for long walks on the beach.

Every other morning we would walk along the beach from the Kihei boat launch facility down to the end of the Keawakapu Beach and then down to the south end of Mokapu, Ulua and on occasion to Wailea Beach. That coupled with 2 or 3 swims during the walk was a great way to start the day.

One of the longest beaches, less crowded, lots of beach walker iin the mornings. Linked to 3 other beaches which have boardwalk between Wailea resorts.

Great beach for families with young kids….nice shallow beach with no sudden drop offs… come in the am before the trade winds come in… soft sand great waves

We come every year to hawaii for Christmas New Years. This is my beach of choice. I love that you have shade if you want with some grass you have a great beach area with snorkeling and you see the whales. This year a turtle beached itself right on the beach. You have a little store Zach's you can rent paddle boards or Kayaks right there. They have Five Palms restaurant right there as well. You can walk down the beach and hit all the high end resorts Four Seasons, Andaz, Grand, Marriott great walk. Lots of small pools with little fish for the little people to see. Washrooms and showers also right there. Get to this beach

This is a beautiful beach and so long that it doesn’t feel crowded. It’s busier near the car park entrances but if you walk a little you’ll find a quiet spot. Lots of families enjoying the sea - the wind picked up later on so you need to be careful with the rocks.

There were people snorkeling, swimming and sun bathing at this beach. A dead end road opens unto the parking lot and this location provides a Sani-Can for a restroom.

This beach is a little quieter than some of the other options in Kihei. It is hidden from the road, but very accessible. There is parking along Kihei road and then a walkway to the beach. There is a shower available on the walkway. There is lots of room to set up your chairs and sun umbrellas if you get there early enough. The only negative thing is the lack of toilet facilities. It is a bit of a walk for that. The waves can be large, but less so that Kameole Beach.

Such a nice stretch of sandy beach in front of the five palms restaurant. Park in the lot just off S Kihei Rd and walk down the path between all the high end ocean homes to this nice piece of paradise. One of the best kihei beaches.

My go-to beach when I had a condo across the street. You could walk the beach down to the heart of Wailea past the Four Seasons with great views along the way (I've walked by Stallone and Rod Stewart and his family). The beach itself is private enough for even Cher to pull up a chair and spend the afternoon.

I am fortunate to be a regular visitor to Maui. I have been to many beaches around the island and have found Keawakapu to be my favorite for several reasons. Like so many of Maui's beaches, it is a long, slightly curved sweep of sand. At one end is a grassy area with palm trees providing a bit of shade in front of the Mana Kai Resort. It is okay to use this space as well as the freshwater shower, but not the lounge chairs which are for resort guests of course. Keawakapu is great for swimming, beginner body surfing, and a nearby cluster of rocks also makes it a great snorkeling spot when the conditions are right. The water is usually clear and the bottom is sandy so no worries about stepping on something sharp, ie. sea urchin. During whale season, you can often see the whales right from shore or get a closer look on a paddle board. There's ample parking in a gravel parking lot near the resort, as well as at the intersection of Kilohana and S. Kihei Rd. If you park at the latter spot, a small trail leads between properties to the beach. The only thing lacking at this beach is a decent bathroom facility. There is only a porta-potty in the parking lot. Take note that it is usually best to go in the morning before Makena cloud covers the sky and/or the wind sets in.

This is one of my favorite beaches to take long walks along the shoreline. The sand is white and soft, the water is warm and very few rocky areas. Great people watching and all around one of the most nice beaches on Maui.

An amazingly beautiful beach! When we were there the locals had gone home already and the beach was ousr. I could stay there and not go back home...seriously!

we didn't know what the name of this beach was till we were leaveing ..it flows into another beach and makes for a nice long enjoyable walks..well worth,to find it Kihei area....

Pretty public beach, nice and quiet. No facilities so take plenty to drink with you
It’s a clean sandy beach and gentle slope into the sea so nice for families too

Full disclosure - the love for this beach is not only because we got married at it. (By the rocks in front on Wailea Ekahi). Despite how special this place is to me, it's really a great open space with lots of great swimming. A few years back, I also got to witness how different it looks with the ocean steals the sand and exposes so much more of the rocks. Nature is awesome. Enjoy!

Keawakapu Beach is a nice beach, at the far end of Kihei on the border of Wailea. Good snorkeling and reef southside in front of 5 Palms restaurant. Next door is Sarento's which are two of the three water front restaurants in Kihei. You can find you open space on the beach without being overly crowded and a great beach to hang out, float on the water or just get wet, not to mention a good walking beach at Sunset or sunrise.

Great boogie boarding. Our 6 and 9 year old grandsons loved it. I tried snorkelling, but didn't see much. However, my adult children snorkelled and saw quite a bit. Nice beach for walking on. Only issue is no public toilets.

Long and broad, this is a great beach for everyone. Like all beaches on Maui, there is a high risk of swells/wave actionwhen you are at the shoreline. It will literally sweep you off your feet. There are no lifeguards and small children can be in a life threatening situation in the blink of an eye. They can be enormous fun, if you keep your eyes open and NEVER turn your back on the waves.

I truth I have not visited every beach in the world, but in my many years I have seen quite a few. This beach is my favorite beach - in the world - to walk in the morning and to watch the sunset at night.

This is my go to beach in Maui. The water is great and it has a good shower. Parking is also adequate and close. You cannot go wrong!

You can't beat this beach for a great walk, swim, and or people watching. The weekend mornings do get a little busy with the local's enjoying the beach with their dogs, but there is plenty of space for everyone to do their thing while visiting.

Keawakapu Beach located in at the south end of Kihei is a long pretty sandy beach. There are 3 parking lots that never get full. The beach best for long walks or swimming ( and other water activities) but doesn't have much shade so bring an umbrella. I prefer other close beaches because snorkeling is great here but it is the perfect place to spend the late afternoon enjoying the sunset.

Keawakapu is a lovely beach in South Maui. Easy in and out of water with good snorkeling by reef on either end. Some turtles and colorful fish. One caution is there are no life guards at this beach.

I came to the beach several times on my trip, you can be a little windy in the afternoon and it can also be very very windy. It is definitely worth coming to they have a grassy area that can be used next to the resort you have to use your own chairs or just lay on the grass and of course you can use the beach. They have a great bar at days inn that is close and has happy hour starting at three.

Turtles frequent this beach, both in the rocky edges and sometimes near shore as they swim from one outcropping to the next. When calm, snorkelling can be good near rocks. Great for swimming, gets rougher as the day goes on. Marvellous place to watch the sunset. Lots of beach, even at high tide

Thankfully the January storms that ravaged some Maui beaches has had no adverse effects on beautiful Keawakapu beach! It us in perhaps the best shape we have ever seen. Full of sand and life and more beautiful than ever!

This was easy to get to and not to crowded. Parking was close and it was an easy walk to the beach. Loved the views.

This is a wonderful beach in southern Kihei, only accessible to the public at its far north or south ends. We easily found parking in the beach lot at the southern end of the beach on the weekend afternoon of our visit. There are shower facilities here, but that's all. Bring your own sun cover and beach gear, as well as snacks and drinks. This beach is popular with both locals and visitors, so you will have to share the sand. The beach is a golden powder sand and the ocean bottom is sandy as well. The water is calm, warm and inviting. This is a great swimming beach. The sunset views draw many here.

This is cute beach accessible via a public parking lot and a pathway between two private hotels. It is good for sunset watchers.

It's a wonderful walk from Kamaole 1 to the end of Keawakapu Beach and back. We always stop for a mid-walk swim at Keawakapu which has glorious sand, excellent swimming and way fewer people. We've often seen turtles swimming by as well.

Beautiful area! Loved the warm clear water! We usually went in the morning to avoid the hot weather. We were able to see the bottom clearly.

By far, the best beach on Maui in my opinion. Golden sand, nice spots for snorkeling, and plenty of space make it a particular standout on an island with many of the best beaches.

Driving down to this beach there were gorgeous house on the right especially the house with glass garage doors. This beach is at the end of S. Kihei rd. in residential area. This beach looks like its shared with private homes with private entrances to the beach. Not a lot of parking but we watched the sunset from this beach.

Superb sunsets and whale watching right from the beach, and if you get thirsty, there are two restaurants in easy walking distance.

We stayed at the nearby Ekahi condo, which is a short walk away.
This is a lovely, sandy beach, good for swimming or beach walks. Nice homes and hotels line the beach, with some nice plantings.
Not much shade -- bring a beach umbrella. There is limited parking in the area.

walked the beach while going to town. Around the bend from the large hotel is very quiet and peaceful. Another Beautiful Spot in Maui

this can feel like your own little piece of paradise even when the beach is busy. very enjoyable here

We travel to the island often and find this beach mellow and a good walking beach. Easy to connect with the locals who walk their dogs. Surf not too rough, clean, and the long happy hour at the Mana Kai (on the end of the beach) is not to be missed.

This beach is one of the best walkable beaches in the area. You can walk all the way to Wailea from here.

Beautiful secret beach with several miles of great walking and photo ops. Small parking lot so get there early.

Nice little beach for sunning, swimming and beginner snorkeling. Not a lot of parking, but it is only a few steps from the parkiing lot to the sand.
Wonderful beach assuming a storm hasn't taken it away(this happens sometimes), usually easy waters, great for swimming and snorkeling. But as with any water, be careful, waves can come up and some rocks can be exposed. The water is great for snorkeling - turtles, whales when in season, tons of fish. Just go and enjoy.
