High country magic. Hiking, biking, motorcycle, horse back riding....what is the outdoors calling to you about? Kebler pass is a close to services but far enough you can get away. Falls colors this is the place to go.

This was a beautiful drive...give yourself time to pull over and get a glimpse at what is around you! If you have time, take a drive into Lost Lake...this is along the Pass and in about an hour, you can drive up to the lake...with more time, you could hike around. The Pass is covered with furr, spruce, and aspen...it was beautiful in the summer and I can only imagine the color in the fall! Most of the Pass is gravel, but it was in great shape and comfortable to drive...any vehicle can traverse. If you plan to go there in the winter, check to make sure it is open...they close it!

Even though it was snowing hard on September 24th this pass is very beautiful well worth the mud splattered drive.

A drive in late September was well worth it for the fall colors. The road was in very good condition and paved part of the way.

We always try to take Kebler pass on the way from near Carbondale to Crested Butte. The road is not heavily used and a bit rough in spots but easily driven with a two-wheel drive. Nice views and a great alternative to the highways.

Hiked Copley Lake which was a great workout with excellent view at the top of peaks behind the lake. Take your bug spray as in early spring at the lake there were swarms of mosquitos.

Beautiful drive through the fall aspens and spectacular mountain ranges. Don't miss it if you are in Crested Butte.

We rode up on mountain bike from Crested Butte. Beautiful views and great ride. Awesome to ride up on our own.

It tends to get crowded with tourists when the colors change. It's a beautiful drive if you're not wanting to hike.

This was a recommended spot to visit. There was a fork in the road taking us back to Gunnison or to Paiona which was further away, we chose the longer route and it was so worth it. The pass ended in Paiona which led us to the North Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison what a view of mountains, rivers and wild flowers. A fall drive is next to see all the Aspen changing.

Decided to take this road from Grand Meda to Crested Butte. Was a little concerned with the gravel road aspect, but our Subaru made it just fine. I think the high volume of traffic tends to grind down the gravel. Fantastic views along the way and totally worth it.

On a trip with the youth of our church, we were coming through this pass to visit Crested Butte.
It is gorgeous w streams, lakes, overviews, mountains with trees, rocks, snow, and more.
If you can get here, do!
And enjoy the scenery and beauty.

There are many Aspen stands along the pass. During late September they are all changing color. Glorious. The pass is dirt but easily traversed by a standard car. Drive Kebler pass as part of the West Elk Loop and you won't be disappointed.

We picked a perfect time to drive from Crested Butte to Marble and Redcliff over Kebler Pass. We stopped numerous times to take in the scenery of the lovely fall colors. The well tended hard packed dirt road was in great shape but could be muddy in snow or rainy weather. Highly recommend.

We drove up to Kebler Pass in order to skin up to Mt Eammon and then ski down. The pass is closed to thru traffic in winter. At the pass are heaps of snowmobilers zooming around in the wilderness making a big noise. The bc trip was nice but I would give the pass a miss in winter unless a) you are a skier or b) a snowmobiler.

Don't miss Kebler pass anytime of year but particularly in the fall. The aspen groves make up the largest aspen grove in the year. I've heard that they are the largest single organism in the world due to the interconnected root system - I'm an engineer not a botanist so don't hold me to that. In the winter don't miss the snow sport adventures to be had. Ride the Dyke trail for some spectacular views and wildlife. Last time I visited Dyke trail my wife and I rode within 50 feet of a young bull moose. Enjoy!

We drove up Kebler pass late afternoon to go fishing at Lake Irwin. The view is spectacular! We headed down early evening and saw lots of wildlife, including a deer and her fawn. Even our 4 year old loved looking at the scenery and searching for wildlife.

It's not too far to Kebler Pass. Some of the road is paved, some gravel/dirt, but out Camry did just fine. It got pretty muddy because of rain, but there happens to be a good "wand" car wash down in town. Beautiful aspen forest and lots of wildflowers. We saw a pine martin (relative of the weasel) and a ptarmigan with baby in summer plumage.

Took the 30 mile Kebler Pass. Took 2+ hours but worth the time for the views! Don’t miss if you have the time.

There's something magical about this huge aspen grove. The wildflowers blooming in the understory were exquisite. And there is a special kind of quiet amidst this many huge aspens.

We were here in Late September to see some leaf color and were not disappointed. The road was in excellent shape. When we were about halfway up we were stopped to allow several hundred sheep by that were coming down the road. It was a neat experience. I would highly recommend this route.

Took a day trip up to Kebler pass to visit and hike at Lost Lake. Very scenic drive on mostly a well maintained gravel
Road suitable for all vehicles. Had a very nice picnic lunch at the Lost Lake Campground and hike around 3 lakes.
Not really crowded the week before July 4th. One of our side trips from Crested Butte. Highly recommended.

Kebler Pass opened the wknd we did the drive. We've been to CB many times but this was our first time on Kebler Pass. It's not as terrifying as some of the mountain roads but offers a lot of great views. Aspens everywhere! Definitly worth the trip.

As part of the West Elk Loop, Kebler Pass is a stunning look at Colorado's back country. This pass is easy from vehicle stand point as long as you have a decent car and are traveling mid to late summer. The road has several transitions from paved to unpaved portions. If it has been raining heavily I imagine the unpaved portions could become slick and messy. If you've got a solid front wheel drive car, you'll be set. We even saw a Prius traverse the pass without difficulty.
The pass goes from just outside Somerset and drops into Crested Butte. Their are tons of photo opportunities for anyone. If you have the time, do the entire West Elk Loop. You won't regret it!

We have driven over Kebler Pass many times in the summer and early fall. In summer an amazing place for wildflowers, in fall the colored Aspen are breathtaking. We have hiked many of the short and longer hikes along the pass. Most clearly marked and leading to incredible vistas

The flowers were spectacular, and it is an easy drive!! We were there post Wildflower Festival, and they were still blooming beautifully

The colors were beautiful both directions. It is not very bumpy. Nice short cut to crested Butte. Lots of places to pull over for pictures.

We visited the pass as well as Lake Irwin. We found the best route to be to the campground. The lake is very serene and appears to accept non powered craft.

Rain was threatening in Crested Butte, but weather is so variable we optimistically forged ahead with plan to drive West Elk Loop and visit the Irwin Cemetery near the top of the pass (across from now almost disappeared mining of Irwin, abandoned near end of 19th century). It was drizzly but not cold and a fine atmosphere to walk this strangely beautiful place ... rumbling thunder helped. One of the oldest grave markers was for Mary Bambrough, a teenager who died in 1881 of scarlet fever. A touching inscription is at the bottom of her stone: “'My good people as you pass by/As you are now so once was I/As I am now you soon must be/Prepare yourselves to follow me.” Rich ecodiversity, textures and colors intensified by the drizzle. We spot beautiful places where can imagine participating by having a few of our own ashes spread, like others before us. Long, slow, beautiful drive through aspens & cloud-shrouded mountains. (I can see now why some ancients thought such mountains were the bridge between heaven and earth.) Wonderful photography

Took a day drive on this past to some beautiful scenery, hiking and an old cemetary. Great for photographers and nature lovers!

Drove up and over Kebler. Nice aspen groves and lots of camping opportunity. Road was good for all types of vehicles.

It is a rough ride with some scary spots but well worth the ride for the beauty of nature before you. Take a good camera along you can't take a bad picture especially in the fall when the leaves are in full color. Keep on going to Paonia to the high wine country and visit the wineries along the road with spectacular views of the valley below.

Breathtaking views and a beautiful drive. Mountainous dirt road that left our car wonderfully filthy. We even saw shepherds moving their flock of sheep down the mountain before winter.

Best fall colors in colorado. Last week of September is the best time to visit. 30-mile dirt road from Paonia to Crested Butte

Driving Kebler Pass in late spring / early summer is beautiful. Many of the high peaks are still covered in snow. It can be so peaceful that all you hear is nature. And when you turn your head around you see snowy peaks in all directions, when you get to the top of the pass. We saw deer, a hawk, marmots & lots of birds. We stopped about a dozen times to take pictures. We both loved the experience. Too bad the Lost Lake road was gated off.

We went pretty far in the car. We stopped regularly to walk and view. Road was in ok condition. We had a four wheel. We turned around when we didn't know how far and where were going. Lots of bikers and hikers. Horseback and rock climbing.

The road is in good condition, any car can drive on it. Amazing fall color and forest, Worth the drive!

Went over at peak for the aspens. Not to be missed. Partial dirt, partial paved road. Goes through one of the largest aspen groves in the United States.

My wife and I were on a road trip in Colorado in mid-September 2015, and I made a point of driving this route on our way to Crested Butte from Durango, in in hopes of seeing lots of fall foliage color. We would have seen lots of gold, if we had been a week or so later. The Aspen leaves were in the early stages of changing. My guess is the color probably peaked around September 28. However, it was still a beautiful drive. Most of the route is gravel, so count on a dusty car afterwards, but you can drive 30 MPH or so in a 2WD car without any problems. We encountered very little traffic, even on a Saturday afternoon.
The route from SR 133 to Crested Butte is about 30 miles long. The prettiest part of the drive is the 15 miles or so between Kebler Pass and Crested Butte. The aspen groves are thick along that portion, and the view from the top of the pass is spectacular.
I believe the road is closed in winter.

The majority of the road is packed gravel/dirt and when dry would be OK for motorcycle travel. However, please be sure to check the weather conditions before going on the pass. If they have any rain and the road is wet, it becomes very slippery and i would highly NOT recommend riding the pass on a motorcycle. We travel on a trike and turned around within a mile. I was told by a local that Colorado adds something to their unpaved roads to control dust that when wet add's to the slipperiness, which i did notice a difference as compared to a wet road. Again offers a nice 30 mile scenic ride but is needs to be in dry conditions.

I was avoiding this trip from Crested Butte to Carbondale. The F150 is a large truck but handled the mostly dirt road beautifully. I loved this solo trip with my dog and stopped several times for photos. If you are considering driving to the Aspen Snowmass or Carbondale area from Crested Butte.....take this route ending on 133.

We found this on a whim, and had the best views of foliage I've ever seen! The road was a bit bumpy sometimes, but manageable and the views were spectacular.

Living in Crested Butte is a dream come true. With all the splendor of the area, one of which is the drive over Kebler Pass. This seasonal road connects Crested Butte with Hwy 133, but that is only scratching the surface. This road, though not plowed in the winter offers a spectacular drive all summer. Just the other day I drove over to Snowmass vial Kebler, and saw one of the largest buck deer I've seen. You pass through the largest living organism on the planet, which is a many thousand acre grove of interconnected Aspen trees. And in a couple more weeks this drive will be exploding with fall colors. So if you are a fall color photographer, you need to put this trip on your bucket list. It is unbelievably beautiful. And it's not chopped liver the rest of the driving season either.

Home to one of the largest aspen grove in the world with fantastic colors in autumn. Road is well maintained with terrific mountain views.

beautiful skin, and even more spectacular descent. not for inexperienced! go as high as you wish, for descent plan on 2000ft+ climb.

This has to be the mother of all aspen groves - I have never seen such a healthy stand with such substantial aspens! They were all so healthy and looked even more amazing with the ferns surrounding them...

Kebler Pass is a great place to take a day trip out of Crested Butte or a shortcut to Glenwood Springs or Aspen in the summer. In the Fall, there is no better place to view the brilliant gold of the Aspens - supposedly the largest stand of Aspens anywhere...

Drove up Kebler Pass while camping at Lake Irwin Campground. Fall color was evident and it was a beautiful drive.

It is not exactly a taxing drive, you still got to be careful, there are some patches of unsealed road but that is in good condition.
For some Schofield Pass takes the cake as I found it a bit bland comparatively - great views nonetheless.

We drove this the second week of June starting at Crested Butte. It was a pleasant drive to about one half mile past the summit when it became a spectacular drive. It wasnt scary and the flowers were fabulous. Several stands of aspen and a couple of conifer copses. We took a hike on one of the trails on the west side of the summit. Lovely.

Drove to Lake Irwin to do some paddle boarding and decided to take in a little of the mountain views. It was breathtaking!! Wild flowers galore, beautiful skies and fluffy white clouds were a picture of heaven. Definitely go!!

Ideally a hike to this place would have be the best way to experience fall ,but we didn't have. We drove from Snowmass to Crested Butte, passing Kebler pass, and there are no words to describe the amazing fall colors that we saw on the way. Plan ahead and try to reach Crested Butte before 5pm so that you have time to click picks and explore the area before sunset.
Also the last 30 mile drive to Crested Butte is on gravel road, so the car speed will have to kept around 20mph, do account for this in the drive time.

We drove up and almost turned around after we reached the summit of the pass, but don't be fooled, there is much much more to see! We went down the valley on the backside of the pass and it was endless Aspens and in the fall it is stunning! We will be coming back here every fall now to see the colors and go for hikes. There are dirt roads, but they aren't bad and you could easily take a small car down it. Ohio pass, which is a turn off of the Kebler Pass road is also spectacular.

Kebler Pass is but the conduit to one of the most beautiful drives we have ever experienced. Pamela came upon the drive in "Travel Leisure" magazine. One rides along the rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It became a national park just a few years ago, and the "black" in its name refers to the many shadows that loom on its surface. The drive is probably wonderful any time of the year, but it is truly spectacular in the fall. "Travel Leisure" magazine cited it as one the the 15 best fall drives in America.

this is one of our favorite drives in Western Colorado. We were surprised that there was almost no fall color on this trip - it's late this year, but the scenery and mountain vistas never disappoint!

On a recent trip to Colorado we spent an enjoyable afternoon of taking in the scenic beauty of Kebler Pass and the surrounding area, This splendid journey takes motorists on a climb to over 10,000 feet between Crested Butte and Highway 133. An old railway grade, the two-lane gravel road that goes up and over Kebler Pass is a popular route for anyone travelling between Crested Butte and Carbondale, Paonia, Delta or Montrose. The magnificent aspen trees of the surrounding area, especially during peak color time in the fall months are stunning. Driving over Kebler Pass gives great views of the surrounding West Elk Mountains and the Ruby Range. Kebler Pass was named for Julian Kebler who was a chief lieutenant for the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company.
Driving Directions to Kebler Pass from Crested Butte
To get to Kebler Pass from Crested Butte, take CO-12 (Whiterock Avenue) west out of town. This road climbs up and over Kebler Pass where it then intersects with Highway 133. Turn right to go south towards Somerset, Paonia and Hotchkiss or north towards Carbondale.
The 30-mile-long drive (one way) takes just under two hours under normal driving conditions.

Do not miss Kebler Pass in late September. Perhaps the best views ever of
golden kissed Aspen trees ! So so colorful ! Leave the hallucinogenic drugs at home.
You do not need them here !
Not crowded full of typical tourists.. A great, great getaway ! Stupendous !

If your looking to experience stunning views of the Colorado Rockies, look no further, this drive is for you! The road changes from paved to dirt and something in-between but we had no problems navigating the terrain even in our rental sedan. The aspens were magnificent and we even encountered a shepherd herding his sheep from one meadow to another. You just can't get more picturesque than that!

You haven't seen one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado if you miss this. It's 30 beautiful miles from Crested Butte across to Somerset. The mostly dirt and gravel pass is a well maintained road. We saw many regular sedans doing just fine. The thick Aspen forests have the biggest Aspens we have ever seen. Lake Irwin is along the road and worth a stop. At the end of trip across Kebler, we took Route 133 north to Marble. Don't miss the old mill in Marble. It is a National Historic Preservation site. It is to protect these fascinating, very old marble towers that once were the mill. These ruins are quite unique and great photo ops. There is an excellent BBQ restaurant in Marble too. It is an easy drive onto Carbondale then Aspen. Round trip was 102 miles from CB. It was a most wonderful day trip. This will be a most memorable trip for you.

Just by the timing of our trip, we found the wild flowers along Kebler Pass in July 2019 to be spectacular.

A must go spot in fall, late Sept is peak time, stay in Crested Butte for a couple nights and enjoy the most beautiful place in Autumn in USA....go go go, dont wait...

This was a very pretty ride over not too bad of a road. Some of it was paved, most of it was not, but still easy to travail. Some of the road went thru tree shrouded woodland; almost magical. It was about 30-35 miles, which probably took us about an hour to do. Highly recommend.

Kebler Pass is spectacular in the Fall when the Aspen’s show their colors. The road is decent (but quite muddy in the rain).

This road takes you from highway 133 to Crested Butte over Kebler Pass during warmer months. Although it can get a bit rough in poor weather, it is a most spectacular ride for views and back country camping opportunities. Lots of trails and viewpoints to enjoy. Fall is especially breathtaking!

Came in late September and the Aspen were gorgeous. Road construction in the area was disrupting, but the views were great.

If you are in Crested Butte in the summer you should definitely make the drive over Kebler Pass. You can go all the way to Paonia or turn around. While the road is not paved it is very good and would be fine to drive in a normal 2 wheel drive car. Beautiful vistas and mountain lakes. Highly recommended.

Don't miss going over this pass. Have your camera, phone, or tablet ready for some incredible photos. Some of the Aspen trees were even starting to change. A true feast for the senses!!!!!

Kebler can be just a bit rough, not true 4WD, but caution and attention required to reach a true pinnacle of Colorado. Take it either Gunnison to CB to Kebler to Ohio Creek Rd to Gunni, or over to Paonia.

I was there a few weeks ago and, without question, one of my favorite drives in CO. An overnight stay at the Historic Forest Queen Hotel is always eventful, and a meal or two sitting near the sometimes raucous Coal Creek at the Coal Creek Grill. I enjoy all times of day and of the year, when open, to head up Highway 12 towards Paonia, especially early morning. The Aspen Clone, one of 2 in the US that vie for the largest single organism is magnetic. I can not stay in my car long once in its presence. Trails that wander, campsites to picnic or overnight, views that are ever changing offering the most novice photographer an opportunity for a masterpiece.

Despite two GPS directives to take the longer eastern route from Aspen to Crested Butte, we chose this route (based on suggestions from locals) and were rewarded with gorgeous yellow mountaintops. Good decision, especially since it is shorter.

We drove from Crested Butte to Aspen and went over the pass around mid-day. So happy we took this route. Beautiful woods and mountains - lots of people out camping, hiking, fishing, etc. It's a dirt road for a lot of the time but the road is in decent shape. I had to keep my speed around 25 to 30 mph but didn't mind because I was looking at the beautiful scenery!

Breathtaking views (much like everything in the area)! There was enough snow still in June 17, and the CG was still closed, but we hope to be back this summer and spend more time to explore the trails. Definitely worth the drive!

We drove up to Lost Lake (16 miles) from Crested Butte. Very worthwhile trip. Nice aspen groves, incredible views and great hiking at the lakes.

unspoiled, virgin aspen forest is magnificent the road is unpaved but perfectly okay for carefull driving

Keller Pass is always worth the drive. Winter on Snowmobiles or Summer Drive, you will always have breathtaking views. Great photo spots!

As passes go Kebler Pass is right up there with the best of them. It does everything you would expect a pass to do...get you from one side of the mountains to the other. But Kebler Pass also provides some pretty great scenery too. One thing to remember though, it's Kebler Pass not Keebler Pass. There are no elves or cookies!

We drove the scenic route road (partially paved in places, mostly dirt, but very passable) up to Kebler Pass. What a beautiful, amazing area! The aspen trees are gorgeous and will be even more so when the Fall season comes and the leaves turn to gold!

One of the best ways to see Kebler pass in the Winter is with Action Adventurers snowmobile tours. Taking a guided tour into the backcountry with a expert guide is an amazing experience.

This was a "business drive" for us to get to Gunnison. I think driving the black from Paonia to Gunnison is more stunning, but they are both wonderful drives.

This bit of off-the-beaten-path Colorado is a spectacular drive in the Fall. We were a little late for the peak of the aspen color, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Much of this is well-maintained dirt road, and can be slow going. There are no services, but plenty of spots to pull off for a picnic, or for some dispersed primitive camping. There are several trailheads for hiking, and a "horse camp" part way along the way. While the road is generally good in Summer, it can get nasty after bad weather - and it is not maintained in the Winter months.

Beautiful drive on easy to drive dirt road. Scenery is amazing and access to some good hikes and lakes from Kebler Pass. Would love to see it in the fall!

We were fortunate to travel this route leaving Crested Butte and on our way to Glenwood Springs. This pass is unbelievably beautiful. Most of the road is dirt but we had a car and made it through just fine. Plenty of stops to take pictures and it wasnt crowded at all. The flowers and Aspen trees were endless. The scenary was so picturesque. Make sure you get gas and go to the bathroom before you head through the pass. It is a long time before you will see either one. This drive is well worth the miles and everything about it. A MUST SEE!!! Even the drive to Glenwood Springs is amaing after you get out of the pass.

Kebler pass was really nice! Easily driveable by any vehicle. I’m super thankful that there are lots of areas that you can pull off and camp without having to be in a designated spot. Crested Butte has turned to all designated spots and it’s basically impossible to camp there. we searched for a campsite for eight hours before going back on Kebler Pass and drove about 16 miles out of town to find a place. If youre on Kebler pass definitely make the left and go check out Lake Irwin! The pass has good views and you drive through an aspen grove which is beautiful. Expect no service of course until you get into town.

We came to Crested Butte from Glenwood Springs via the pass. We came too late to see the fall colors, but it didn't really matter bc it was still the most beautiful drive we've ever experienced. Our kids did very well during the drive as well - though one did get a little car sick. So if your kids get sick easily give them lots of water and not a big meal beforehand. We took lots of stops along the way which helped them out.

After two unsuccessful attempts to find lots of wildflowers on Gothic Road or Washington Gulch Road out of Crested Butte, we finally decide to get on Rt #12, which leads us through the Kebler Pass. And what a reward we get! Fabulous, fabulous wildflowers surround us, the road is a joy to drive (unlike the other two) and the views are splendid! Lovely trip.
**

We just went for a short drive up Keebler pass, went on a short back road used for camping (it was rocky!) and headed back. It was the perfect thing to do to kill time before we could check in at the hotel in Crested Butte. We saw deer, lush trees and gorgeous views.

Dirt road though the mountains fantastic views and some of the best aspens during the color changes. Road can be muddy when wet. Closed in winter.

Pretty Scenery, Aspen Trees are Awesomely Beautiful and Magnificently Dense, Road is bumpy but passible. Be ready for a long ride. It shortened our distance from Crested Butte to Montrose considerably. Driving at night might be dicy.

Our group of eight women hiked the Kebler Pass between Aspen and Created Butte. Eleven miles of gorgeous wild flowers and trails across and along streams. The gradual ascent is a gain of several thousand feet and the summit is (I think) 12,400 feet. The eleven mile hike is but one of many which can be hiked in the area. If you want a wildflower hike, this is one of the best anywhere.

If you want aspen trees, hikes to lakes, SUP boarding places, moose encounters or just a nice drive, this is the pass to go on. Love it.

A truly gorgeous drive, a wonderful hiking place, and there are even places to stop and fish. The wild flowers are wonderful. Mountains, valleys, vistas, that are awe inspiring, varied, stunning, and an incredible trip through an Aspen forest. I always thought that the trip down Hiway #1 through Big Sur was the best drive, but now maybe not. If visiting Crested Butte take the time to drive over Kebler Pass. It leads you to many other adventures on the west side of the pass.

The views are beautiful and stopping at Lake Irwin was worth the detour. However, the road was SO bumpy and full of potholes that we feared for our vehicle. Definitely not one to take if you have an motion sick people with you!

Agree with previous reviewers, do not let the dirt roads scare you. Partially paved, partially dirt. the road is narrow but plenty of places to pull off and take pictures of the breathtaking scenery and gorgeous Aspens. We drove the entire pass from Crested Butte to the highway on our way to Aspen. Definitely worth it. We saw some deer as well. Be sure to use the restroom and get gas beforehand because there is nothing but nature along the way!!!

Beautiful scenery, decent road when dry, Average car will have no issues. Worlds largest organism when you pass through the aspen trees.

This drive is wonderful with gorgeous aspens, an almost hidden cemetery, and beautiful Lake Irwin a few miles away. The summer flowers and fall colors are amazing!

Traveling thru and came across the Kebler pass and said why not, it will take us where we are going anyway! So glad we did! That had to be the biggest Aspen Grove I have ever seen. I can just imagine the beauty when the leaves change in the fall. Would love to go back and see when they do change! A must for all to travel.

We hiked to lost lake and played in the snow on the way! We even got to play snow baseball in the parking lot just like we did in 2015! Beautiful and breath taking.... it never disappoints. The three year old even hiked all the way! Great memories here!

If you're not the hiking type this drive is for you. Even if you are a hiker, this is a great way to see some gorgeous acreage without having to work! You will see open meadows, great views of some mountains, and tons of aspen trees. The road is partly paved, not too narrow. The unpaved portion was fairly smooth and not too gravelly. I would love to be here in the fall to see the gold-leaved aspen trees.

We usually take this drive at least once a year. This year we went to see fall colors. The road is dirt/gravel but is a good road and the scenery is beautiful! Be sure and watch for sheep in the road. If you are going to be in the area take this drive.

Don't let the dirt road scare you. We did not have 4 wheel drive, and had no problems driving over the pass. It is beautiful! New views around each corner. So worth it!

Breathtaking ❤️
Take a trip to the Kebler Pass and you can count on endless beautiful scenery. I visited 9/19 - 9/29 and these 10 photos are not even some of the best!

The aspen forests are amazing. Part dirt road part paved. Beautiful pass to either enter or leave Crested Butte

My husband, youngest son and I drove over Kebler pass on our way to Crested Butte and wanted to take some Senior pics for my son. The colors were beautiful!! The road most of the way is dirt and I was surprised there was a lot of traffic. Everyone seemed to have the same idea.. Lots of cars pulled over in different places taking pictures and enjoying the colors as much as the next. Beautiful drive, but plan to go slow during peak color season.

Easy drive west of Crested Butte. Mostly dirt with some paved sections. Make sure to take side trips to Lake Irwin, Lost Lake, and other stops among the aspens. They say the aspens on the west side of the pass are the largest living organism in the world. They certainly are the most impressive aspen stand I’ve ever seen.

Open only limited months of the year, this is an incredible pass to drive. The views are truly stunning. This like many passes in Colorado is a dirt roads, so driving is a little slow, but that makes taking in the views easy! I would add to beware of what appear to be some locals who drive the road a little too fast! Watch for the Aspen Grove once considered the largest grove in the world. If you happen to get to see this during the Fall Colors, it will take your breathe away.

Drove this road in early August, Aspens were everywhere! This will be a great color-fest when the leaves change. This road can be driven in any 2WD vehicle when dry. Figure 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. for stopping and taking pictures.

This route had the most amazing colourful display of the Fall colours, mid October, the day before snowfall, the road is best enjoyed at a slow pace, as you are constantly wanting to stop at the most scenic turn outs regularly for photos, so do not rush, you will not be disappointed.

We traveled over Kebler Pass on our journey home to the Vail Valley. The road is in good condition, and the views are spectacular!!

Kebler Pass regularly gets touted as the best Fall color drive in all of Colorado, but until this year I've never had a chance to make the drive. We certainly got lucky this year. Sandwiched between two work trips, our only option was to go to Kebler Pass a week earlier than we normally drive to see the gorgeous Colorado Fall colors. It did not disappoint - the aspen trees were hitting their peak as we drove the pass.
Kebler Pass is mostly gravel, but it's not your typical dirt road. Hard packed, and well maintained, this road is easily doable in a regular passenger vehicle.
If you are a hiker make sure to give yourself plenty of time to explore. There were at least a half dozen trailheads to park at, and each one looks like it would reward you with even more breathtaking views than the ones you get from the side of the road. If I could do it all over again I would spend at least a couple of days here. There is no shortage of sights to see. If you're lucky, you may even spot a moose like we did!

Drove over Kebler Pass during wildflower time in Crested Butte. Lots of flowers along the roadside. Great vista.meven encountered sheep along the way. Overall, a marvelous experience.

I was traveling solo and was intimidated by the thought of 31 miles of unpaved road!? But I’m here to tell you it’s an easy drive with spectacular views during Fall. It’s not crowded but there was always cars around me. It takes longer than the 2 hours because I guarantee you’ll pull over and take pictures or just take in the views. My rental car was a Jeep Cherokee which did great on the road but there was every type making this trek with no problem (even a corvette). I think unpaved gives the idea of 4-bying but it’s not like that :)

Over crowded woth "Me first People"
I found better hiking in Utah!
If more hype than hope!
My time was ruined by masses of bimber people in a tiny foot print area. The whole bout 1/8 the size of the town of Aspen but is being trampled!!

The road was completely safe and the drive was lovely. We were there in mid June, so we enjoyed the beautiful wildflowers. I can only imagine what it must look like in the fall. I hope to come back to see it!

Beautiful but long drive. Very peaceful. Air smelled wonderful. Lots of aspens for fall color. No gas, no cell service.

What a beautiful drive, even on a rainy day! The view is absolutely humbling. The aspen grove is a sight to see, and we were able to see some wildlife, as well!

This drive is probably better in the fall when the aspens are golden. It's an easy drive--we were in a jeep, but saw many larger vehicles. The road is very busy, but there are some amazing views. However, there are many other fantastic easy drives in Colorado.

Kebler Pass between Crested Butte and Paonia is a treasure of beauty, vistas and perhaps the largest network of a single aspen in the world. The dirt road is very navigable and typically ( except when it rains a lot) 4 wheel drive is not required. There are so many beautiful vistas and if you are there in the fall it is the best color in the state. Enjoy your drive and take your time to see this gorgeous piece of Colorado.

We finished up on the Gunnison and stopped into Crested Butte for early dinner and drove the entire pass. It is BEAUTIFUL in the summer and will go back this fall to Lost Lake. It is paved and gravel in a lot of parts but an amazing ride. Be sure to stop at the old cemetery where a family placed a nice headstone in honor of their young daughter, a reminder how tough life must have been there with the mining.
This is a must if in Crested Butte and the Aspen trees are huge here too~

We were a little apprehensive about taking this unpaved drive. The road actually was pretty well maintained, with some washboardy areas. There were some very pretty views from the road, the Aspens were pretty well past their prime leaf color when we drove it the end of September. The coolest thing though, was the large herd of sheep that passed us on the road. There were hundreds of them, the cars pulled over and watched the men and dogs herd the sheep past.

Drove from Aspen to Crested Butte via the Kebler Pass. The Aspens were a color riot of gold and red.

Absolutely gorgeous. You won't be disappointed. One of the largest Aspen groves. Plan to spend at least 2 hours on this pass.

Beautiful side trip, fairly easy drive from downtown CB. The aspens were golden and singing a fall chorus...

This was by far one of the most beautiful drives I have ever been on. We were fortunate enough to view the Aspens at their peak! The road was dirt/gravel but in good condition and could be accessed by a two wheel drive. If you choose to take some of the side roads 4WD would be ideal. Lots of places to take photos!

Beautiful and colorful in June area.
I've visited this Pass early morning, when most of people were sleeping and wild animals were walking around. It was fun to see them. The flowers are so special. Picks of some mountains covered by the remains of snow. What else do you need? Just grab the camera, a bottle of water, hat, sunscreen and move forward.
I strongly recommend this place. Driving from Crested Butte shouldn't take more than 25 minutes. It's worth!

Kebler is such a beautiful drive. Absolutely not to be missed if you find yourself in the Crested Butte area.

The scenery couldn't have been any more spectacular with the magnificent mountains, tree covered slopes and the beautiful wild flowers. There were many accesses to hiking trails and streams with pull offs for parking. The road, although dirt was very well kept. This is one of Colorado's most scenic drives.

My daughter and I left town at 7:30 am in search of beautiful photos and drove up the pass and back, stopping for a quick hike at Lost Lake Campground. So beautiful and relaxing.

Kebler Pass can't be beat for Fall colors from deep reds to light yellows. and then there are the incredible mountain views from every angle. The hiking on Kebler is outstanding with Oh Be Joyful Pass to Dark Canyon

We've driven Kebler Pass several times, but our favorite time is in the fall, when the aspen trees are in full color. It is an easy drive with a lot of great views & photo ops. You will be driving mostly on dirt, but it is easily passable in any car (except during winter driving conditions). It is easy to link this drive with a visit to Crested Butte or Gunnison, or to go on over McClure Pass to Marble, CO (which is a very interesting place).

As you might have guessed, this is near Crested butte so it's obviously beautiful. Peaks, flowers and Aspens everywhere. Gorgeous right now but wait until the fall and then be sure to return. This a must for scenic drives if you're in the area!

A beautiful drive. You must stop at the Lost Lake campground and hike the the Three Lakes Trail. It will be one of the best two hour hikes you will ever experience. Just quite, clear, clean and beautiful. The way more of the world should be.

Wow - gorgeous fall colors and views with the beautiful aspens. Took the pass to Paonia for wine tastings and lunch. Be sure to book Dolly’s Mountain Shuttle to do the driving. Our new friend/tour guide/driver, Kate, was excellent.

Gorgeous views on this pass, so many aspens, so many pictures-to take , can’t be in a hurry on the pass - part of it is dirt

On our way to Crested Butte to see the wildflowers up toward Gothic. Still some wildflowers to see along this drive, but most done. We always enjoy this drive in late September to admire the fall foliage as there are a lot of aspens (yellow) and Gamble oaks (red) to admire. Even now the drive is beautiful.

Nice to drive and can stop at many Trail heads for a day hike. We were in July, but can tell it would be a great drive in the fall.

Kebler Pass is one of my favorite fall drives! Take in the amazing Fall foliage of the beautiful aspen trees.

It was a magnificent drive from Crested Butte to Aspen; the largest aspen forest was an incredible sight as the leaves were either bright yellow, orange or denuded.

Great ride and many places to stop and take pictures. Good camping choices. It's about a 2 hour drive from Crested Butte to Paonia and much of the road is dirt.

We did this pass on the way from Aspen. We saw tons of wildflowers and not very many cars. Biggest vistas anywhere. Breathtaking scenery.

I recently got mixed up on my directions in Colorado. I was driving on Hwy 133 and saw a sign showing Crested Butte and Gunnison and pointing to a road. I turned down it and discovered it was not paved. I pulled over to think about it and several cars went by. I decided to drive the road without knowing anything about it. It was a great decision. The Fall foliage was gorgeous. Driving through a huge Aspen Grove, so thick overhead that the road was completely shaded, was amazing. There were plenty of places to pull over for photos. There were a lot of visitors, but was not crowded. The Kebler Pass Road goes between Crested Butte and Hwy 133 and is 30 miles long.

We visited here in the last week of September, the fall colors are about pre-peak - peak - past peak, all mixed up.... great gravel road, good for flying drones and taking photos from above. But it's not out of the world scenic, - just a good drive that you shouldn't miss if you in the vicinity of Aspen or Crested Butte

Make sure you have a 4 wheel drive....Some tricky driving needed. BUT BEAUTIFUL VIEWS are worth it...

We knew we wanted to travel across Kebler Pass (out of Crested Butte) to Carbondale as soon as I found this mostly dirt road which is totally accessible by car. Stopping by Lake Irwin and driving around the campground area we came upon fields and fields of wildflowers. Stunning. The drive wasn't on a narrow, scary road, but allowed you to enjoy slower driving and just enjoy Mother Nature's bounty.

It's closed in the winter months so I felt lucky to make it in October. It's an amazing drive through the mountains, fantastic foliage.

This is the best place in Colorado for Aspen / Fall Color. Nearly 10 miles of tree tunnel aspen! Plus fantastic vistas of aspen (largest aspen stand in the country I believe). Dont forget to check out Ohio Pass too (very close) for possibly the best aspen vista ever (with all due respect to Maroon Bells).

Our 3 day "glamping" trip was just outstanding. The people in town were all so friendly, helpful and kind. God's glory was on full display in the surrounding areas totally in full bloom. Highly recommend to make this area a must add to your" bucket list". Simply breathtakingly beautiful.

Love driving over Kebler Pass in September when aspen is golden. Can't beat the views. Gravel road, but well maintained.

Wonderful drive not far from town. Beautiful scenery abound. We had a 4x4, but much of the drive suitable for normal vehicle.

If the aspens are ripe, this is a great place to shoot. Don't forget to go for reflections when shooting the quiet waters in the meadows.

Beautiful aspen trees all along the road. This road should be absolutely breathtaking in the fall. Cannot wait to come back then.

Drove from the Crested Butte side with my aging parents. We stopped at lake Irwin and Lost Lake before turning around. They both loved the drive. Just another 1-2 more weeks and the wildflower will be amazing.

Nice views and great bike ride (coasting all the way) back to Crested Butte. Nearby Lake Irwin is a good spot for hiking, fishing, and paddle boarding. All in all a nice diversion for a couple of hours to a full day.

We drove the scenic route from Crested Butte. I think this was the most beautiful drive we have ever taken. The wildflowers were peaking. The mountain tops still had a bit of snow. The stands of aspens are incredible. Be advised that long portions of the road are unpaved (but in very good condition) and a few places are quite narrow. We were "adopted" by a fawn who must have thought our Subaru was its Mom but luckily after a while it went off into the woods. Highly recommended so long as the weather is good.

Beautiful drive from Gunnison or Crested Butte not 2 b missed. Aspens abound all around! Driving thru this pass you get swallowed up in a 360° tree forest. loved seeing all the wildlife; birds, snakes, cattle even fallen trees due 2 beaver behavior. Would NOT suggest taking an RV as the road is ruddy and narrow in most places. Can only imagine what this would look like during the fall. UNBELIEVEABLE.

was their once I took the bus from aspen down valley to Carbondale and hitch a few times to crested butte it was the best way of getting their from aspen without a car

We were up primarily to shoot wildflowers in the high country in Colorado. Kebler Pass didn't disappoint with hundreds of gorgeous wildflowers.
One of the more entertaining experience along the road was a flock of sheet wandering freely in the middle of the road. I sure wouldn't have wanted to meet them at night along that road!

Read great reviews of this drive and they were so right...breathtaking and any car can handle roads. Aspens just starting to turn. Don't miss!

We were seeking scenery and photo opportunities and were not disappointed. Aspen stands are amazing and peaks breathtaking.

We have been to Colorado many times during the summer, but this was our first autumn trip. I have never been over Kebler Pass before and it was absolutely spectacular for experiencing the brilliant yellow aspen and beautiful mountain vistas. The pass takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours to traverse (depending how many photo stops) from Crested Butte to highway 133 and is combination of blacktop, gravel, and packed dirt. The driving was easy though I was advised that the packed dirt can become slippery when wet. If you want to see the Fall aspen colors at their best, this is a must drive!

Take a drive through Kebler Pass to observe the great stand of Aspen. They were ablaze in yellows amid the various greens and reds and oranges of evergreens. A photographers dreamscape.

Drove this road from Crested Butte to Paonia. Incredibly beautiful foliage and mountains. Dirt road but quite hard packed. We got an extra treat when we stopped to take a view photo and there was a moose 40 yards away in a pond. Beautiful! Many amazing vistas and excellent colors.

Took a drive up to Kebler pass just to see the fall foilage. It didn't disappoint. Beautiful views! The road is two lanes and bit sketchy at times, but it's well worth the drive.

I wouldn't advise the road if it looks like rain, particularly during hail season. It requires patience when passing an on-coming car

My eyes were filled with wonder and anticipation the entire ride. Very magestic and beautiful. Words cannot describe how beautiful this road and area are. We've traveled all over, but this was just outstanding. Gorgeous views and aspen grove. Amazing!

We missed the main weekend for the fall foliage, but were able to experience few trees left with the fall leaves. Some part of the drive is like off roading with no proper roads laid. May be visiting the week before would be a 5 star rated experience for us.

Great Drive that starts in Crested Butte and goes over the pass. When the trees are changing it is hard not to stop and take photographs. A 2 wheel drive vehicle can be driven on the road. Most is asphalt and then some dirt. The road is closed during the winter. Many hiking trails start at the road.

Took Kebler Pass on a recommendation from Chris at Purple Mountain Bed & Breakfast. We were in a 4 wheel drive truck, but it was not necessary. About half paved, half well packed dirt road. Beautiful camping spots noted on the drive. Absolutely gorgeous fall color, the quintessential Colorado experience

Great drive. Rough road if you are in regular car but worth it for the views. Don’t forget to turn around half way in, or you will face a 2.5 hour return either back tracking or on the highway, which a amazing, just prepare for the time.

The road from CB across Kebler Pass is fun with beautiful views. The river runs alongside the road and offers great scenery and when we pulled over to look, we saw a buck across the valley. A great way to spend an afternoon.

We visited Kebler pass yesterday. It was the most beautiful fall colors drive I had ever taken. It was feeling like at peace seeing golden aspen forest which seemed never ending. We started from Crested Butt side at 11 am on kebler pass. First couple of miles aspen leaves were already fallen and it made us little skeptical about timing of visit. Then things started turning right for us. Aspen trees with Fresh Falls colors is now lined up on one side of road. We took turn on Ohio pass and luck was with us. We hit gold mine. Large golden aspen forest valley was waiting to welcome us. It was picture perfect. I have seen this scenery till now on picture.. today I was seeing live.we took so many pictures. We drive further down to ohio pass and every inch was worth. we took turn and back to kebler pass. It was colors every where. then we reached Horse Ranch park and it was again wow moment. Red Aspen leaves surrounded by yellow colors.. Amazing view.. I loved it, We drove whole pass and joined McClure pass which was another scenic drive till Carbondale. Road was in good condition though not paved. We didnt feel any problem at all in our Toyta camry. Dont miss Kebler pass if you are coming to Colorado for Falls color. I am very happy finally I have seen Kebler Pass fall colors

Go anytime summer or fall to catch all the Aspen in full color!
Travel towards a Ohio pass and catch a glimpse of the castle mountains as well as Gorgeous ranches on the way to Gunnison

The aspen were peaking in color. The road was much better than I expected. Access to hiking trails and wonderful sightseeing.

We camped at Lost Lake campground and drove through the pass in early October to see the aspen trees. We got lucky and we there on the perfect weekend when they were in full color. A must see in Colorado!

This pass provides many opportunities to pull over your vehicle and bust out that camera, easel, or just take it all in with your own eyes. Driving through dense forest of never ending aspens that open up onto views of Gunnison Mountain and others. We thoroughly enjoyed the morning cruise.

Beautiful views in the fall. Long drive but worth every bit of it. Intermittent dirt and paved road.

Very picturesque drive over a mountain pass just outside of Crested Butte. Aspen trees at the summit were outstanding and should provide wonderful viewing in early to mid September.

Be sure to check out Lost Lake and the hike to Dollar Lake...can be crowded and campsite around the lake are likely full. Disbursed camping along FR 703, that fills up quickly too. Try to plan to get there early. Good fishing at Dollar Lake...we saw a bald eagle fishing at Lost Lake.

If you want to see the glory of fall colors this is the drive for you! Its apparently the world's biggest aspen forest. The road is mostly dirt road - passenger cars could make it but there are some places where they would need to drive slowly and carefully. The views are magnificent and the aspen forests are stunning. We camped near three lakes trail in a happily forested area. The three lakes trail is a beautiful alpine lake with a stunning mountain view. The 3 lakes trail is 2.2 miles with a view of well, 3 beautiful lakes. The only thing to be aware of, is it's high up and gets chilly at night if you are camping.

My husband suggested we go over Kebler pass as part of our leaf peeping adventure to Crested Butte. Boy I’m glad he did. The pass is home to one of the largest aspen groves in the entire US & it shows. The diameter of some of the aspen trunks was much larger than many I’d ever seen. The pass is 33 miles long. We travelled both directions. We saw many people camping. There are places to hike. I can not recommend this pass enough during leaf peeping season. You will not be disappointed.

Took the Kebler Pass road all the way across to Rte 133 and on to Carbondale. It is rough in places but the highway crew was 'planing' the road when I drove thru. It is very narrow in places and not built for speed. Slow down and enjoy the views. There were plenty of hunters camping along the route.

It was cloudy and rained most of the time I took this drive. I had wanted to catch the aspens when they were yellow or golden, but I was too early this year (mid-September).
It's a pretty drive, but I wish it hadn't rained 95% of the time, that I saw more of the sunshine, and that the leaves had turned color earlier

A beautiful drive over the pass in the fall when the aspens are changing colors! Lots of photo ops along the way. As there was road construction just 6 miles before reaching Crested Butte, we opted for a detour down Ohio Pass along Ohio Creek Road and found it to be a rougher/narrower road, but still a very beautiful drive!

Out of Crested Butte the road turns to dirt. It is a good road and you can take a car on it. The scenery on the drive is amazing. The fall colors are incredible. Lots of areas to stop along the way, Pack some water and some snacks...it's a bit of a drive, but well worth it.

We went to what we thought was the summit. It is not marked with a sign. At the top, there was an old cemetery. Worth the stop to walk around the cemetery.

We drove from Gunnison to Crested Butte and drove over Kebler Pass and down the other side toward Paonia. We also stopped at Lake Irwin near the Pass - very scenic. We have an AWD Subaru Forester and this drive was very good (both dirt/gravel and paved road). If we were to take some of the side roads off the Pass Road, we would need a higher clearance SUV or truck.
We love aspen forests in the fall. These were not quite at peak colors, but they were gorgeous! On the way down the western side, we saw gorgeous aspen groves, ultimately opening up to some spectacular mountain views down at 8,000 feet and lower. For nature lovers, hikers, or photographers, well worth the trip. Families and fishermen/women will especially like Lake Irwin.

A beautiful scenic drive through Kebler pass between Crested Butte and south of Marble. The windflowers were so beautiful and colorful. Anybody can take this drive

From the time you wander out of Crested Butte, it only takes a mile or two before Kebler Pass really grabs your attention and keeps it focused for the ongoing trip. Typically closed in the winter, Kebler is a fantastic mix of vistas, heart-stopping drops and views, with something different around every corner. A couple recommendations - definitely stop at Lake Irwin (it's a few miles off the main road), and it's a dynamic hike all the way around the lake, which can be busy on nice days, and also take time to jump off the rock; the Horse Ranch Park trail is nothing short of incredible, boasting views of the largest single Aspen grove in the United States.
One of the best parts of Kebler, depending upon where you're staying, is completely immersing yourself in its uniqueness, and then being back in Crested Butte a short time later for a meal or drink to end the day.
Only problem is that if you're the one driving as you traverse Kebler Pass, someone is going to constantly be telling you to "look over here!" and that can be a hard thing to do when several hundred feet straight down is staring you in the face.

Such a gorgeous place! Probably the largest living organism on the planet! Acres and acres of Aspen trees. Simply breathtaking. Many so large it takes two people with outstretched arms to reach around a single tree. Wish we had seen the Aspens at the height of their color but it was not meant to be. Next year!

'Short cut' from Crested Butte to Aspen after the Maroon Bells hike, takes about 2 hours off the highway route. Road is in good condition, very easy in a 4WD but also suitable for cars. Mixture of tarmac and gravel with remarkably few potholes. Great views, wildlife and birdlife. Take your time and take pictures.

This is a gravel road that is passable with a passenger vehicle. The views are gorgeous and there was not a ton of people

County Route 12 is unpaved but very well suited for RV and travel trailers. Camping at Lake Irwin and Lost Lake is fantastic although no facilities, electric, water or sewage are available Absolutely beautiful and quiet camping

Do yourself a favor if you come here during fall colors and also drive down Ohio Pass. It's a similar dirt road (any car can do it) and it only takes 5-10 minutes to reach the massive aspen forest that is equally stunning. You can continue driving down a bit for a tranquil pastoral setting with gold cottonwood trees, then turn around to go back to Kebler or continue to Gunnison.
Kebler Pass is one of the best fall color drives I've ever been on. The scenery in general is spectacular; the jagged mountain peaks, especially on the "Dyke", are gorgeous and framed by gold and red aspens in the fall.
The best time to visit is Sept 25-30. I can't imagine the color peaking later than that but I suppose it's possible.
It doesn't matter if you drive from west to east or east to west, since the scenery is mostly to the left and right of the road, not in front or behind.
Give yourself minimum 3 hours here so that you can stop and walk around and enjoy the scenery.

I spent 16 days from the end of September into October traveling in Colorado ,I was hoping to see the aspens in fall color and got my wish ,one of my favorite spots to see them, lodging can be tricky if you wait to book and it does get crowded but well worth seeing .

Glad I checked ahead of time as I learned the pass is closed off and on all day m-f with 2 hour intervals closed and half hour open. Hoping less crowds than weekend make the delays worthwhile.

A beautiful, scenic and peaceful location to catch the wonderful leaves changing colors. There were many spots to pull off and capture pictures of the scenery.

The Kebler Pass Road between Somerset and Crested Butte, is a photographers paradise when the aspens are turning. Mountains of gold and color superb. Not to be missed!

Went at the end of Sept and the leaves were beautiful! This drive would be nice any time of the year though. Lots of gorgeous mountain views and trees.

I was in the Apsen/Maroon Bells, CO area and got a lot of suggestions from locals that 'Kebler Pass' was the drive to see fall colors - it did not disappoint!! It's a fairly well maintained, mostly gravel, road that offers some amazing views. I'm already planning another visit.

Beautify pass straight up to Crested Butte.
Biggest. Problem is drivers don't pull over for ones going faster, they take it as an insult. Just look for a safe area and let the fast vehicles pass ,NO BIG DEAL!!! I've been 4 wheeling for years and since cats can use Kebler they don't understand being polite. Someone gave me the finger, they were going 15 mph and I lightly tapped on my horn, they than took up whole trail. I realized I was dealing with a fool do backed away. A mike down they pulled over to let two cats go buy and they gave us the finger...trail manners people!

This is a beautiful drive. It is mostly dirt road but we saw several cars and I do not thin they were having any issues. It is closed in the winter. We also saw several camping along the way.

One of the best places to see fall foliage in CO. Can get crowded on fall weekends. Too far from Denver for a day trip, so it's a great excuse to spend a night in Crested Butte.

The views are spectacular and the flowers were just starting to bloom. The drive was a hint challenging for my A6 sedan but manageable. The boys loved the drive and the aspen groves. We saw a few horse groups out for a ride and would like to do this as what better way to see the area than on horseback. Definitely worth the time.....

Drove over and enjoyed the colors being so vibrant . Beautiful anytime of year . Traffic was heavy though because everyone was wanting a glimpse of our calico Colorado Rocky Mountains ... blessed to be a native

I drove solo after dropping friend’s off to hike thru from Crested Butte to Aspen. I was driving my 2017 Sprinter. It was peaceful & lovely. I wish this trip was maybe 4-7 days later. Because there was a tiny pop of color in places. But very soon the Aspen will be flaming yellow & red. It was a lovely Sat morning drive.

Loved this road. The colour of the trees was still beautiful; the drivers were very forgiving to me as I kept stopping and taking photos; the pass leads to a wine region from Crested Butte.
What more cxan you want...

Kebler Pass Rd (CR 12) is a great road for any vehicle. The pass is just a few miles est of Crested Butte. Great mountain road drive, and loaded with aspen. .Perhaps the best drive for color in Colorado the first week of October.

Lake Irwin is a hidden gem off Kebler Pass on the Crested Butte side. Lots of paddle boarders, swimmers and kayakers enjoying the beautiful July weather. We continued on the road all the way to the top and are so glad we did. Stunning vistas.

We were a little hesitant at first as we didn't know what type of road this was. We found a utube video where it showed the entire road via go pro (speeded up). So we headed out. Boy did we get a treat! The fall colors were outstanding!! We had no problems with the road, it was dry and other than a few skinny places it traveled fine.

We took this road heading out of Crested Butte and were thrilled with the drive! The Aspens are beautiful and it much better then taking a main highway!

This is by far my favorite thing we did while in Colorado! The drive is beautiful. Give yourself plenty of time-3-4 hours. Make time to detour over to Lake Irwin. This drive has all of the flowers, trees, mountains, and wildlife you could handle! There is no cell service so plan your route ahead of time. You follow hwy 12 the whole time. It dumps you out at 133. Again, be aware there is no cell service and no town it dumps you out at so no gas station. There is Kebler's corner campground/store you can get you a beverage and take a restroom break. The whole ride is beautiful though! Totally worth your trip!

We visited Colorado at end of September. Our first drive Kebler Pass was in the late afternoon. We were amazed about the view. We changed our schedule immediately for the next day in order to visit the place again! Love views here and Aspen color. We enjoyed this pass the most!

Beautiful! Took a jeep tour and saw flowers, waterfalls, beautiful mountains, I have been in Colorado all my life and have never seen beauty like what is in this part of the State. It was a fun tour that carried 11 other people and the driver took us up 9000 ft.

Sightseeing while in town for Western's graduation. Drove up to where snowmobiles began their trek. Beautiful sites as you can see.

This is a must see! Such beautiful scenery . Beware of critters crossing the pass. Bring your camera!

Wonderful views, rounded a curve only to see a small black bear cross the road and head down the hillside below. Colors to die for ...

We drove from McClure Pass over Kebler Pass into Created Butte. Many of the trees on the Paonia side of Kebler Pass are still green. More color if not near peak from the top of Kebler to CB. Camped at Lost Lake and the colors were beautiful. Worth a drive if you’re in the area for at least the next 10 - 14 days.

Drove this pass with my family in July in our low profie car. We found this mostly dirt road to be in great shape with just a very few places to be cautious about ....AKA/pot holes. Found the number and the age of the aspen trees along this drive to be astounding. I've heard from a local that these aspen are considered one of the largest continuous "organisms" in the world as the aspen are all interconnected by a shared root system. This would be an amazing fall drive. It took approximately 2 hrs. to drive from Crested Butte to Carbondale.

Make the turn to see Irwin lake! The lake is a beautiful hidden gem in the mountains. Great picnic or camping spot or kayaking on the smooth water.

We have gone over Kebler Pass several times and the fall when the Aspen's turn gold is the best. We even encountered a herd of sheep being moved down the road by herd dogs and sheep herders on horseback. I great fall dive.

We drove over this relatively easy pass in a regular car. This area has one of this highest concentrations of Aspen trees anywhere in the US, and the were in full fall color

Went there snowmobiling, was cloudy day so couldn't see all the scenery but was very nice. Can be nerve-racking for a first timer

Words cannot totally describe nor pictures capture the beauty of the aspen trees changing color. We were surprised to see that the road was maintained, since most of it is a dirt road. It was a nice leisurely drive through the mountains surrounded by scenic beauty.

I love my views and have walked many miles to find them. The Scarpa Ridge hike (uphill and strenuous, about 4.5 miles total, starts at Lake Irwin) was the best I've ever had. If you are in the area, this is a must.

My family and I have traveled from Carbondale to Crested Butte via Kebler Pass several times. During the fall, the colors of the Aspens are unmatched. Other times of the year (not winter, snow makes it impassable) it still is a wonderful drive.

We drove this Highway 12 from Crested Butte to Highway 133 and are so glad we did. Some reviews had said not to drive it if you have a rent car but we had no problems with our rental SUV. We traveled at the end of the first week of October and saw so many beautiful changing aspen leaves. Even on a Monday there were plenty of people out doing the same thing as us. The pass rises to 10,007 ft. elevation and has great views all around. Other than a few bumps and potholes the drive isn't that bad.

Nice drive through large Aspen groves. Stop to hike along the way if you want to see more. There are many opportunities for stops as you drive along the pass.

Wow for scenery. Its worth a drive to see the beauty. If you are looking for a place to camp, its out of this world beautiful. I saw many camper trailers and tents at camp sites. Definitely worth the drive. You must check out the Lost Lake area. So amazing and peaceful. Nice lake for fishing and campsites to set for day or overnight visits.

Beautiful leisurely drive. Wildflower a everywhere. Will return. Would love to bring my horse and camp and hike. We had a traffic jam along the way.

After visiting Crested Butte we decided to take Kebler Pass to Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. Boy, were we happy we made that choice. The Pass rises to 10,000 feet and is partly paved, partly dirt, but we had no problem driving the dirt road parts in our all-wheel drive Subaru. The aspen forest extends most of the way with phenomenal large trees. We were there in early September, so the trees were bare. We can't wait to go back in spring and fall. I would suggest checking the weather and not making the trip if it is very rainy or after a snowfall. It is not really "adventurous," just off-the-beaten track. You won't be disappointed.

Not easy to find on our Garmin (Garmin’s fault) but easy driving except for the traffic on a busy weekend, so come during the week for best experience. People with big lenses taking pics everywhere, because it’s some of the best in CO.

Well worth the trip over Kebler pass. Beautiful fall foliage and mountain scenery. The road is mostly dirt/gravel. Take your time if driving in a car. Any vehicle good for this trip.

I was going from Aspin down to Ouray. I am not familiar with Colorado and just expected to drive there with no glitches. Wrong. My GPS had me turn left onto a gravel road. I was a little concerned because I was alone and like to know where I am going. I kept driving up, up and more "up". I am a photographer and this drive is a photographer's dream. It took me about six hours to get through the pass but it was due to stopping every so many miles to photograph something. I oohed and ahhhed the whole way. It was worth the trip to Colorado just to see this drive. I cannot recommend it enough! Just amazing. The road is mostly gravel but was a good road. Some of it was paved. Just remember to use the bathroom and have a full tank of gas before you get on the road. I just loved it and it is my favorite part of my trip.

Easy drive even if unpaved- and it does cut off a lot, of you are headed to glenwood springs from crested butte.

Love seeing wildflowers and layered mountains with gorgeous white puffy clouds and rich blue sky peaking through!

We were a few weeks early for top aspen viewing but we had great fun. Highly recommended and no 4-wheel drive needed.

This drive added several hours to our trip but was well worth it. The Aspens are amazing. You'll never see another stand of trees like you will driving through this pass. We absolutely loved it.

Kebler Pass Aspen put on the premier color show in Colorado when they go from green to shades of yellow, gold and orange in the fall. The unpaved road is relatively smooth and is easily done in the family car.

Kebler Pass is my new go to for viewing fall colors! I could have asked for a more perfect day! This is a must even in the summer!

The road was scary in a few places.. dirt road and people driving too fast. No real scenic view points. Just ok. I wouldn’t drive this unless I was going somewhere.

Driving from Aspen to Crested Butte via Kebler Pass on a cloudless fall day, provided stunning views of blue sky above golden aspen valleys and woods! It was my first Fall visit to Colorado and the naturall beauty in this season of yellow/gold took my breath away and left me with vivid memories. Maybe we were just lucky with the picture perfect blue skies and aspen just at peak but, it was gorgeous and unforgettable. Our photos tell the story and bring broad smiles each time we view them.

In "normal" years this would be a fantastic drive. It goes through deep forests of large mature aspens, with frequent breaks to look across large open spaces between mountains. Those spaces are also loaded with aspens.
But this year's crazy weather, combined with last fall's very early very hard freeze, has caused many aspens to lose their leaves early (and crunched up, not golden before they fell) so the vistas are not nearly as beautiful as normal. Still a bit early because there is still some green, but again, probably won't be an outstanding color year, at least as of 9/18/15.

It's unpaved, but in good condition, and just stunning! Goes from Paonia reservoir to Crested Butte.

Scenic drive to or from Crested Butte. Road was in great shape. No stress driving. Lots of places to pull off and take pictures. Trails to hike and wildlife to see. We were there in late August so aspens were not turning color yet. Can't imagine the beauty when they do. Some wildflowers still in bloom, but best in July according to locals. Bring your camera and picnic supplies for an enjoyable country road trip.

Absolutely beautiful time of year to visit Colorado. The lakes are beautiful with lush greenery everywhere. Great place for landscape photography.

Went for the colors and were not disappointed. Beautiful! Going over the pass is not dramatic. There are no markers or plaques.
There were places that were a sea of gold

Spent a few days in Crested Butte just at the right time to experience this beautiful scenic drive. Make sure you have plenty of time because you will want to stop at every pullover to take pictures. There were many tourist like us, photographers, and even a few artists painting. This is one drive I will never forget!

Beautiful drive and don't forget to visit the winery's on the other side. Was too early for the wildflowers but I will be back.

Lake Irwin is off Kebler Pass road. It was gorgeous and the flowers were out of this world this year.

For a little adventure and a short half-day excursion my wife and I drive up to the Kebler Pass. I stopped and did some hiking and enjoyed the wilderness, fresh air and quiet. It was an awesome August morning.

This is such a beautiful drive. The road is well maintained despite being a gravel road. Lots of places to stop along the drive and walk or just enjoy the scenery from your vehicle.

Traffic has increased substantially over the last few years, but this is still a beautiful drive. The road is suitable for all vehicles. The Aspen and mountain views are gorgeous. Unfortunately when we were there, a bicycle race was underway and the camera crews and bicyclists were everywhere. Still this is not to be missed!

Nice short cut to the Roaring Fork Valley on the other side of the mountains dirt road but very passable until it snows

You can take typical car on this area without too much worry. Nice pull-offs and panoramas. Like most mountain roads, you want to keep driving to see what is around the corner.

We drove Kebler Pass a couple of times to see the fall color. There are some beautiful views and also lots of people, including us! We really enjoyed Ohio Pass more since there were some great views, fewer people, and the trail to the beaver pond.

Loved this way into CB although it is a gravel road. Some washboard sections so go slow and take your time. Absolutely a beautiful drive and well worth it.

While there is little traffic, because the road is so narrow many cars seem to think the road is one way; their way. There are picturesque spots at every turn yet limited places to pull off the road so some drivers just stop in the middle of the road. Slow down, take your time, enjoy the view.
NO services on route 12.

Glad we took this route from
Paonia. Road was in pretty good shape and helps when people take their time and not eat up the road by wash boarding and speeding. They keep the road in great shape. Beautiful scenery especially with the setting sun.

We missed the foliage last year and we planned our trip more carefully this year. Maroon Bells is famous but Kebler Pass is a feast for the eyes!!! for miles. The road is partly unpaved but very smooth. If you are in the area do not miss it, or plan to drive thru next time you are in Colorado.

We picked the weekend of September 17th to spend in Crested Butte, hoping to find the aspens peaking in the fall finery. We had heard about Kebler Pass from John Fielders book about the best places in Colorado. When you leave Crested Butte on the Kebler Pass road, you soon encounter vistas of mountains with groves of aspens at their feet and on their flanks. The mountains are always glorious anyway, but even more so when donning their garments of gold and orange.
The road is mostly gravel, but in good condition. It is just wide enough most places for cars to pass each other, but there are occasional pull outs and places where one can stop to gawk and take pictures. You have to be careful, because lots of people exceed the speed limit, and there are many blind turns. So you have to watch out for them, for folks who might stop in the middle of the road, and for bicycles. All the while you are probably on the lookout for that great photo opp, and there are many as you pass through the immense aspen grove.
On our trip, we were blessed with clear skies, dry roads, and many places where the aspens were glowing with color. You will find that they don't all turn at once. A hillside will have patches of gold, orange, green, and shades in between. As the season progresses, some trees may shed leaves while others are just changing color. It all makes a glorious tapestry. You should drive the road during both morning and afternoon hours. East-facing slopes look best with morning sun, and west-facing ones later in the afternoon. Drive the road in both directions, as you will see different things each way. If you are a hiker, there are trails and dispersed camping spots in the forest. However, be prepared for mountain weather. The temps at night, for example, dipped below freezing during our stay. Dress in layers for crisp mornings and warmer (usually) afternoons.

I thought I had seen the best of Colorado in my many, many day trips from Denver. However, if you want to see THE BEST of Colorado in the span of about 2-3 hours, then drive Kebler Pass, summer or fall. We drove it the 2nd week of June during the wildflower festival in Crested Butte. However, the wildflowers on display on Kebler pass during this time are the most spectacular show I have seen in the whole state.
You will also get incredible mountain views of three mountain ranges, and you will drive through miles and miles of thick aspen forest. We also saw a herd of sheep and a sheepdog while taking this drive. Plenty of opportunities to get that perfect "Colorado" photo of our famous trees.
Once you get to the bottom of Kebler pass, make sure to drive about 15 more minutes to the Marble BBQ restaurant. It's the best BBQ in Colorado (and possibly the world).

This was one of the most scenic drives we have made around the country. The views are great and the aspens were awesome. We were there the first week in October and caught the aspens just right. The road is wide and well maintained with lots of places to pull off and take pics. Be sure that you have plenty of gas before you leave Crested Butte or Paonia. There aren't any places to get fuel in between them. We will be back.

We have been going to Crested Butte for 28 years and the trip over Kebler Pass from Somerset always marks the beginning of a wonderful, awe inspiring time. The scenery, the wildlife and the closeness of nature announce we are entering a serenity zone. Clean air, aspen forests and majestic mountains come into view at every turn.
This is a maintained dirt/gravel road that has some "washboard" spots but is suitable for all dependable cars. There is no service/gas on the road but someone will soon come by if you experience difficulty.
Go experience nature at it's finest.

This is the best road for fall colors in Colorado. It is not paved but not a problem for most vehicles. There are some great hiking trails off this road such as Lost Lakes.

It is 30-35 miles long. It begins on the eastern side near a small town Crested Butte. Initially it is paved for a few miles. Then it changes into a well maintained gravel road. It is passable for all kinds of motor vehicles when it is dry. I drove it at the end of September when the Aspens had turned golden yellow. The weather had been dry so there was no problem driving on the road.
The scene was pretty all around. In some places you have views of mountains and in some stretches you are surrounded by tall Aspens. I just drove the road from Crested Butte to Paonia and took one side trip to a lake that was a bit bumpy. I was driving a regular car so I did not wander off other than this one side trip.

My husband and I took a day trip on Kebler Pass while staying in Crested Butte for a long weekend. We went to Lost Lake along the way and hiked, then made our way back to CB. What a beautiful drive this was, the mountain views were just gorgeous. There were also quite a few pull-offs so you can snap some pictures. Warning- be careful on the tight turns, we had a couple drivers coming the other way that were speeding around curves.

Always a favorite for viewing Fall leaf color. Lots of great sights year round. Can be lots of traffic at high intrest times. Worth the drive.

Took this route on our way to CO Springs since we have never been here but highly recommended to take to see wild flowers. Pass was basically a 2 lane dirt road the entire way so easy to drive without a four wheel drive vechile if you don't have one. The pass was super busy the close we got to crested butte, for a Friday afternoon. Can't imagine how busy it is on the weekends! If you're looking for a pull off to camp, god luck! Not many places and got tired of seeing sites with just chairs there reserving the spot. Wild flowers were okay, was told we needed to find a different trail to be blown away with them. Tons of Aspen trees so would be really pretty in the fall.

About 2 hours to/from highway 133 to/from Crested Butte, with the best views on the west side of Kebler Pass (about the west 3/4 of the route). We drove it in early July and the views were exceptional, but we can't imagine how great it would be in the Fall when the aspen are turning (maybe the best in Colorado, from what we've seen after living in Colorado for many years). The road is mostly well-graded dirt with some paved areas at the west and east ends, drivable with any passenger car.

We drove from Somerset to Crested Butte twice. We saw deer, elk, beautiful flowers, trees were gorgeous! Its about a 45 minute drive one way

Hiked the 2-3 mile Old Wagon Trail hike on the Keebler Pass. Wonderful! Park up past the trailhead and walk downhill. It's a great idea to shuttle if you can; if not, hike back uphill for a terrific workout.

The 2 most impressive items here are the old Irwin Cemetery at the pass summit and the geologic dike a mile or so west of the pass. The cemetery includes graves from the late 1800's, yet also includes recent burials. The dyke is a jagged, rocky structure protruding vertically on the north side, and is a great example of this geological feature.

The drive takes you from one breathtaking view to the next with plenty of turn-outs so you can stop and take pictures. The wildflowers were plentiful and the road is safe with plenty of room for drivers and bikers.

Besides driving over and enjoying the beauty or even mountain biking over, there is wonderful hiking around. Sometimes that is the best way to do the pass. You can actually hike and look around and not feel you have to be somewhere by a certain time. Beautiful pass - beautiful fall colors - but also beautiful year around! - Snowshoeing, XC skiing! fabulous

What an amazing drive! Highly impressed with the condition of this mostly gravel road! Was expecting lots of rough, washboards and had very little roughness on the entire route!
Beautiful views! We stopped at the Irwin cemetery for a nice break! We love old cemeteries and ghost town lore!
Glad we did this drive!!

Came from Aspen to Crested Butte and was quickest route but it is 90% dirt road so I wouldn’t go if rainy or snowy. BUT, what beautiful scenery. Loved it just be careful in narrow places but it’s worth the drive!

Fall time is the best and go end of September to mid October .during winter skiing is fantastic .spring is full of flowers 🌺

We drove over Kebler Pass on our way from Crested Butte to Basalt. The view of the West Elk Mountains and Ruby Range was very good plus, as a bonus, we saw lots of wildflowers. The road alternates between gravel and pavement, but the gravel must have been treated because there minimal loose stones.

Plan on taking your time and enjoying the views. The road over the pass features both paved and unpaved sections but a normal passenger vehicle can easily navigate it.
We brought some snacks and pulled off at one of the convenient places to nosh and soak in the natural beauty. Arrived in Crested Butte in time for lunch!
The leaves were spectacular this year.

Probably one of the most beautiful drives ever for fall. The road is partially dirt so be prepared. We ran into rock mitigation and the road was closed until 4 pm. Just check road conditions before you drive. The view will never disappoint!

Beautiful drive with a plethora of views with snow capped mountain peaks, the hugest aspens in the world, high desert vistas, rushing mountain streams. Agree with the review from a couple of days ago....if you are here to sightsee just pull over and let faster guys move on through. Either they are locals going to work/home & they deserve our respect, or they are fellow sightseers in a mad dash who aren't worthy of this place. Going back through next week to spend a night or two amongst those glorious aspens!

We took this highway to Marble, Co. Don't expect it to be a fast drive, but enjoy the scenery as you go. There are several spots to stop and enjoy the scenery. You travel through open areas and wooded spots. A lot of places along the edges with little ponds or lakes of water too. I would recommend everyone that visits Crested Butte take this route once.

The fall colors were spectacular the first week of Oct. ! Several good places to hike. The dirt road is well maintained.

The Aspen this year were the most colorful in many years. The trip over Ohio pass into Kebler was spectacular as well.

What can I say, Kebler Pass is amazing in September! It's mostly dirt but you won't regret it as the Aspen are amazing through the pass. I took my wife this year to show her the amazing color and she was astounded she hadn't been there as long as she'd lived in Colorado. It's hidden a little so you need to look for it. It's a perfect dual sport ride as well! I took my BMW r1200gs over it and it's one of the best rides I've been on! Find it and enjoy it now!

We traveled over Kebler Pass August of 2019. During that month the wildflowers were in full and spectacular bloom, and set against the green of the 20+ mile long aspen grove. Cool, right? Except that aspens are a single community! We'd love to return in the fall, I'm sure it's amazing; but I also have a feeling that we'd be sitting in 20 miles of cars going 6 mph. But, one can dream.

We 4wheeled up here this weekend because the snow was less then stellar on Mt Crested Butte. The road is not maintained in winter and was icy in spots but given our Jeep Rubicon we had an easy time in 4 wheel drive. Once we got to Lake Irwin we went out on the frozen lake and could easily brush away the snow to skate around in our boots. Definitely sad we had not brought ice skates with us to CB.
There were plenty of snow mobile’s congregating at the south end of the lake with their dogs. They drove up & down so fast that it thrilled our children 12 & 13.
Children were sledding on a hill close to the lake. A little more snow & I would definitely have signed the family up for a snowmobile tour but Mother Nature is not cooperating quit yet.
Great exploring in any season. Bring snacks or a picnic. In summer you can camp here for 14 Days max. We love exploring CO high country.

We made this drive on a fall Sunday afternoon while staying in Crested Butte. The foliage and vistas were amazing. We also stopped by Lost Lake on the recommendation of a local which was absolutely beautiful. This is definitely worth a visit while staying in Crested Butte.

You will see the largest stand of Aspen in N America. Stop and hike at Lost lakes CG or at Lake Irwin. There is a very nice hike up behind Lake Irwin steep and long (Scarp ridge). If you have 4 wd you can drive to old Lake Irwin Lodge, and start from there.

Beautiful scenery but a lot of dirt road which quickly becomes very muddy. Closed in the winter. Best in late September and early October to see the leaves change color. A photographer’s dream.

Kebler pass is 90% non paved road from Paonia to Crested Butte .
From Aspen , to Carbondale , to Kebler Pass, to Crested Butte. It is the quickest way by many hours form Aspen to Crested Butte. The scenery is beautiful and it is well worth the drive.

In late September there's no more beautiful place to see aspens changing colors. Those were the largest aspens we've ever seen, and the trees are close to the road. Excellent photo opportunities.

It had been several years since we came this way, so we motored up to see it again. Oh my goodness- the flowers were awesome! There were entire hillsides of color. The lupine growing under the aspens were especially beautiful. Bonus- we stumbled across the turn onto Ohio Pass and took it back to Gunnison. It’s a beautiful ride. We will be back to see it all in the fall when the aspen turn!

The pass was beautiful with all of the flowers in full bloom! Lake Irwin was absolutely pristine and worth the short drive!

This is the "easy" route from CB to highway 133 and destinations north or south. Very scenic & pleasant dirt county road. Beware of county crews dousing the road with magnesium chloride. It will create a caustic mud you'll spend hours trying to get off your vehicle. Many good camping areas along the way, Lake Irwin especially

Awesome view of the mountains valleys and the partly unpaved road is a manageable drive , the end point from aspen to Crested butte town is also a pleasant small town with lots of nice eateries ! A must see when you are nearby.

Wow is right I hitch hiked in from aspen was it a good thing I did really excellent place to go in the summer I need to spend more time back their.

Gorgeous fall colors and mountains abound! Travel does not require 4-wheel drive and there are numerous pull-offs for some amazing photo-ops!! Views constantly change with early morning and late afternoon light, but you can't go wrong with any of them!

Kebler Pass is located on Gunnison County Road 12, between Paonia SP and Crested Butte. This is a 'must see' drive in the fall (late Sep / early Oct), when the aspen tree leaves are turning their gorgeous gold color. Bring your camera!

It is the peak time for Aspen golden yellow color this week! Although it is narrow unpaved road, it is not difficult to drive through at all. There are lots of stop points for scenic overlooking. Strong recommend to drive for Aspen fall color.
The wildflowers on the road up to the pass are beautiful this time of year (July). The lake near the top of the pass is great for hiking, picnicking and even swimming.
