We visited for a weekend getaway from the snow of Pa. We were looking at a boat to buy and were pleasantly surprised how nice and helpful people were here. Really everyone we ran into was friendly, it makes a difference and you quickly pick up a vibe of a place. We enjoyed the pretty scenery and even saw a bald eagle flying not far from our hotel .
A cool shop down the road to check out is Wye River designs and herbery. Neat dried teas, herbs , aromatherapy and crafts if you like that kind of stuff.
We enjoyed our stay even being winter , thank- you nice people of Kent Island !

We have tried most of the restaurants in Kent Island, from high end to low, and have found surprisingly few good ones, especially and peculiarly when it comes to seafood. The all around best, and not the cheapest by any stretch, mind you, is "The Narrows", right on an inlet of The Bay. You do get a pleasant view, either from within the dining room or out on the"Porch" of fishing boats or diving ducks. The food is the what makes "The Narrows" better than all the others, the best seafood, especially crab dishes, and a nice mix of steaks, soups and sandwiches, as well as new specials and appetizers. Service is always friendly and professional. There is full meal service at the nice bar in the dining room, too.

Again, this place is not inexpensive, but it is worth it, and you walk out feeling you've had a civilizing experience.

A small caveat is that the Porch is directly exposed to the sun throughout the year. It is well air-conditioned seasonally, but if you don't like to be sitting with that direct glare on your face, ask to seated inside.

Kent Island has something for everyone. Easy to reach from a number of metropolitan areas, but mentally a million miles away. Recommend you stay in one of the very convenient hotels (we like the Hilton Garden Inn) and park the car for the duration. More on that later.
Restaurants/bars cover the spectrum from "boater/biker" (e.g., Jetty or Red Eyes) to more upscale and excellent (e.g., Bridges or the Narrows). All are "on the water," feature great service and are within walking distance of the hotels. Happy hours are worth catching. Given the crowd at the boater bars, the Maryland State and local police have a pretty high, but low key, presence. Hence my comment about the hotels/parking the car. If you're driving, be careful. Enjoy. Kent Island is a blast, especially if you spend the night.

Expectacular Island and the best host ever at this home. Large capacity of 12. Pool towels, all you need in the house to feel at home

In most cases, an island for vacation is not ideal for living and commuting to work. But Kent Island has everything, residents can enjoy a vacation in the weekends all year round while working rest of the week. Dining while enjoying sunsets, beach sports and other attractions are within easy reach.

We stayed near the Cloverfields Marina and went to the beach there. The bike/walking trail that goes the length of the island is lovely, as is the park at the end of the island near the Narrows Bridge. Lots of places to relax and enjoy the flora and fauna, plus fine dining (Bridges, Hemingway's) and more casual dining options.

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, it was superb! the restaurant choice was not the best, very high end or a big party, not my thing. It was a nice place to enjoy walking around the boats and to see the water but at the same time it was very messy with trash everywhere from the partying. Local Visitors Center should look at setting rules for cleanliness. The bridge was very cool. I would return but hope the trash issue would be fixed.

Kent Island is the biggest Island in the Chesapeake Bay and is considered the gate way to Maryland and Delaware beaches. The majority of beach goers have to go through Kent Island via the Bay Bridge and the Kent Narrow bridge. Many beach goers may overlook what Kent Island has to offer because the focus is far at the beach or get home from the beach. Rt. 8 is the major North and South Rd. It will take you to very interesting attractions such as small bay beaches and small park. Kent Island also offers two major bike and hike trails; Kent Island South Trail and Cross Island Trail to the North. the Terrapin Beach Park is one of a few much less develop land and swamp area on the bay. Stevensville is ah historic town with much charms on the Island. The main highway is Rt. 50 with plenty of different kinds of accommodations and places to eat. Schedule your visit to take advantages of this small charming Island with variety of things to offer.

We often travel to this area for a quick overnight stay that is on the water without having to drive 5 hours to the beach. We normally stay at one of the local hotels that are within walking distance to great food and great entertainment. One of our date night favs.

I have lived near Kent Island most of my life and never knew there was so much to see. Yesterday we went to the James E Kirwan Museum in Chester Md on Dominion Rd. It was like stepping back into my grandparents farm. The tour itself took only about 20 minutes which was great for kids. There was a ton of information given inthat time though. Then you are free to roam the house and grounds. I had me 7yr old son with me. He had a great time. Great way to see what life was like before the technology age. It is one of many small museums on the Eastern Shore with little or no admission fee. It's a great value.

From Stevensville to Grasonville; From Romancoke to Love Point; Kent Island has public piers for fishing and crabbing, kayak rentals, nearby wildlife preserves, plenty of restaurants (where TripAdvisor can be VERY helpful), cross-island biking and jogging trail and lots more.

If you live near by I highly suggest making a weekend trip to this place. Toll is $4 but other than that, the view while driving on the bridge is simply amazing. Go on a nice sunny day. If possible visit the Trepan Nature Park, there is a secret beach not many people visit and the view from that spot is great. If an over night stay isn't possible, just give yourself at least 4 hours to enjoy the place and you can go back home. It has all sorts of stuff going on and is laid back. I made this trip for the heck of it, had a few free hours and figured why not make a quick detour to check out this place. I was happy I found this island. Being in Maryland all these years it was a real surprise that I had never visited this place. Definitely coming back another time.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kent Island, primarily for the water views and the excellent crab cakes at the Narrows Restaurant. We would definitely return.

We were in Kent Island for a wedding. We rented a beach house which made the experience even better. It's about an hr away from DCA airport. Definitely account for morning traffic if you are catching an early flight. Got the opportunity to cross the 5 mile Chesapeake Bay bridge. The island has long trails for walking and biking. Many choices seaside restaurants with beautiful view of the bay. We really enjoyed the stay and recommend Kent Island for family vacation.

Kent Island, MD is a delightful destination! There are numerous restaurants, such as Annie's (world's best BLT), The Bridges (best view) and the best kept sushi secret in Maryland, Cafe Sado! Aside from the wonderful waterfront views, there is an amazing bike trail that winds over the entire island. Flat, paved and easily ridden. You can charter a fishing boat or rent a sailboat for a terrific day on the bay. There are numerous motels and inns if you want to spend more than a day. Within an easy drive is a huge outlet mall for the shop-a-holics. There is even a small airport if you will be visiting by private plane. I would recommend a visit to Kent Island to anyone looking for a true taste of the Chesapeake Bay.

We have made many trips to this beautiful island and my family and I enjoy it every time. We spent the Memorial day holiday at the HGI and had dinner at the Bridges restaurant. We stopped off at Metapeake beach and cooled off at hotels pool. Can't wait to come back!
