Start at Copper Harbor, head west on M26. You'll roll around a corner & there is a deep blue Lake Superior. As you drive along there will be stands of birch, pine & hard woods, set in rustic and on trampled settings. On your right you'll see miles of sandy beaches & an occasional rocky outcropping. If you have children, they will beg to climb on them. There are several scenic turnouts to enjoy a large ship passing in the distance. As you travel further you'll drive through Eagle Harbor & Eagle River. Both with wonderful lighthouses & a few water falls on the way. Turning south towards Houghton & Hancock, You go through many small towns showing the remnants of Michigan's turn of the century copper industry. All and all it's a great drive , one of the best I've ever been on. I live 12 hours away & try to do it every other year.
We're fans of the Keweenaw. Attractions: Lake Superior views and beaches, clean air and water, northwoods hiking and biking, berry picking, fascinating history with mining ruins to explore, geology to learn about, fresh fish to eat, friendly residents and NO CROWDS. Good thing it's so far from big cities, that's what's saved it from being trashed by overdevelopment. So don't tell everybody, just people you know who agree, it's excellent just the way it is.
